On Death's Doorstep (pt 22/?)
[<<First],,,,[<Prev],[Next>] [ODD Masterlist]
Word count: 1442
Rating: Teen
Pairings: None in this part
This is a preliminary warning: the warnings of this chapter contain major spoilers for not just this chapter, but for future chapters. I feel that these spoilers are necessary to include in order for you, the audience, to decide whether or not you'd like to continue with this story. If you don't need warnings, you're free to scroll past the warnings and avoid the spoilers altogether.
The warnings are directly below the cut, followed by a random screenshot of Logan (for spacing purposes). After this screenshot, the chapter begins
Warnings (contains spoilers): Major character death (it's a temporary death, but it will not be reverted in this chapter, or in the next chapter. This character will likely be dead for several chapters, but they are guaranteed to come back), blood mention, explosions
~~~START~~~
Over the past few months, Logan found himself straying from his usual patterns more and more frequently. It was irrational and illogical, but he couldn’t bring himself to stop; like an addict, he was hooked, and he would do anything for his fix.
He would do anything to spend a little quality time with his daughter, even if she didn’t know.
Janus, at the very least, had taken notice of his change in behavior, and he was well aware that they were taking advantage of his distracted state in order to further their relationship with Virgil — six months ago, this would not be something that Logan let slide, but now… he had to admit that Virgil was not playing some sort of long con in order to bring them to justice; Virgil and Janus were both adults, and if they both wanted to pursue an untenable relationship, it was none of Logan’s business.
Besides, while Janus was using his distraction for their own benefit, Logan was using their distraction to his. It was a win-win situation as far as he was concerned.
It had been a shock when his database had matched the name of his long-estranged daughter to the face of Sandman, but in a way, it had also felt like a blessing. He was finally getting contact, even if she didn’t know it — even if she didn’t know him.
The fact that Julieta had removed any trace of Logan being the father of her daughter was painful, but not entirely unexpected. Not with the way things had ended between them…
Remy’s crime fighting skills were improving in leaps and bounds, and she’d even managed to catch a few non-meta criminals. Luckily, she hadn’t yet managed to subdue a meta criminal long enough for the police to pick them up — he’d seen the files that Janus had stolen a few months back and he would hate for his daughter to be unwittingly contributing to unethical human experimentation.
After about three months on the scene, Remy had added a few homemade gadgets to her repertoire; gadgets that, Logan had noted with pride, were clearly reverse engineered from his own that she’d nabbed from the twins.
Remy was a thorn in his side and he absolutely adored her. He was growing soft.
Normally, Logan would not do two jobs in one week unless they were time-sensitive, and he certainly wouldn’t have pulled two jobs on consecutive days unless absolutely necessary. But here he was, pulling a frivolous job one day and an important one the next.
Yesterday he had pulled a bank job (an actual bank job! Never in Logan’s carrier had he knocked off a bank, as though he were some common thief) in order to see his daughter; today he was hitting a genetics lab in order to steal some of their research. The media had taken notice of his increased activity, but they were incorrectly assuming that this either meant that Dr. Frankenstein was entering his end game for world-domination, or that he was struggling to maintain himself, and might soon disappear for good.
Both theories were patently false, though they did amuse Logan greatly — as if he would want to tackle the logistical nightmare that was world-domination. No, Logan was a smart and level-headed man, he made reasonable and achievable goals. But they were correct about one thing, he was so close.
“Not this time, Frank!” Logan suddenly found himself knocked away from the lab’s mainframe and into a filing cabinet.
One of the things Remy had learned was to attack first and announce herself second. It was truly stunning how much pride and irritation Logan was able to feel at the same time.
“Sandman,” he spat, brushing himself off and glowering at the hero.
Sandman, for her part, seemed pleased with herself as she stood between him and the mainframe. She was twirling the USB drive Logan had been using between her fingers.
“Gurl, what don’t you take up needle-point or something,” Sandman shook her head. “It’s gotta be easier than all this. At the very least you’ll be less likely to break a hip.”
“I assure you,” Logan replied, observing his daughter closely under the guise of assessing his opponent. “My stitches are impeccable, but they will not help me achieve my goal as quickly as this data will.”
“Sorry,” she smirked as she noticed his gaze lock on the USB. “Was this important?”
Now it was Logan’s turn to smirk. “Not particularly.”
He barely had a moment to relish her look of surprise as he activated the drive’s failsafe before he was off and running. The drive made a pop sound as the small amount of explosives in it detonated, destroying the circuits, and causing smoke to spill out of the casing — it would not be enough to hurt a person holding it, but it would be rather surprising.
The USB drive would be no great loss, the data it was mining was transferred to a receiver tucked safely in Logan’s coat, and the drive itself would be easy enough to replace.
Sandman’s yelp of shock was abruptly cut off as the door to the lab swung shut behind Logan of its own accord, adding a little to his head start. Not as much as he would like though, as Sandman quickly broke it down with the help of her energy shield.
Logan was a quick runner, and in a foot race he hardly ever worried about his opponent catching up to him. This was not a foot race however, and Logan had learned months ago that Remy could fly faster than he could run. Outmaneuvering her was really his only choice. Most of his gadgets for slowing down a pursuer were intended to be used in a foot race, and the halls of the lab were incredibly sparse of furnishing he could animate to get in her way, but he did have one thing.
A couple weeks ago, he’d been inspired while watching a Spider-Man cartoon with Patton and Remus, and now seemed like the perfect time to try out his new toy.
Logan placed small discs on either side of a doorway as he passed through it, and seconds later, a sticky, but quite durable, web of synthetic spider-silk filled the passage. Sandman didn’t have time to stop herself before she was shooting through the doorway, the webs tangling around her as she passed, causing her to fall, unceremoniously, to the floor.
“You bitch!” She screeched after him.
Logan smirked to himself; she would untangle herself soon, but it seemed as though children’s cartoons did indeed have their merits. He was finally starting to see why Emile–
Nope. Now was not the time for that.
He needed to get some height before he exited the building. The mainframe had been in the basement, but even exiting through the first floor was out of the question as law enforcement would no doubt be converging on the building by now. No, he needed to exit from the third story at the lowest, and since there was no way he was going to risk getting trapped in an elevator, stairs it was.
Stairwells didn’t exactly provide enough space for him to use his rocket boots, but luckily Logan was very good at stairs. He laid a few traps as he climbed in case Sandman freed herself before he could escape the building, but he never heard another door open before he was bursting out of the stairwell on the fifth floor.
The building to the east was four stories, which would provide excellent cover for losing law enforcement on the ground, so Logan oriented himself towards an east-facing window. He threw a sonic bomb in front of him to take out the window pane and prepared to activate his rocket boots.
The glass shattered out, and he had just barely launched himself out the window when he was hit with a shockwave that knocked him off balance and sent him careening into the neighboring rooftop.
His ears were ringing, and he could feel blood beginning to drip down his face from where his head had collided with an old crate, but all of that was secondary to the shock. That explosion hadn’t been his.
Logan managed to push himself up to his knees just in time for a second explosion to go off.
The second blast was stronger. Windows shattered in surrounding buildings. Car alarms went off. People were screaming. And all Logan could do was watch in shock and horror as the building he had just escaped — the building that his daughter was still in — collapsed.
~~~END~~~
:)
Shoutout to @kiapet2 for commenting “calling it now, Remy is Logan’s daughter” back on chapter 11 for making me rewrite both Logan and Remy’s backstories because that was so much better than what I’d had planned
I hope I’ll finish the next chapter by next week, but if I don’t, Happy One Year (next week) of On Death’s Doorstep! I literally don’t know how I got here, it’s like 35k wtf

[MY THOUGHTS ON TWITTER BEING DOWN + MY CURRENT PLANS FOR OTHER PLATFORMS 🐦]
Hi everyone! As many of you might have experienced, Twitter has not been loading tweets for many hours for a lot of users (me included) due to the so-called "rate-limited" mechanic that doesn't make any sense. At the time of this writing, I could no longer see tweets majority of the time from my main account, so the situation at hand makes me even more pessimistic on the future of Twitter.
A good chunk of you probably knows by now that I've been active in Twitter as celestiabyss for over two years now. It is the platform where I started sharing my theories and thoughts about Genshin lore, and it is where I got to see many fellow lore enthusiasts that inspire me to this day.
Twitter isn't perfect, but ever since a certain someone bought the platform, things started to get really messy. Unnecessary features got added in while necessary features were removed. Twitter Moments, for example, was the only feature that was close enough to being an organized archive. You might have seen me use this before to compile my lore tweets and theories. Around November last year, the Twitter Moments feature could no longer be updated with new tweets, and this was the reason why I barely wrote long lore threads ever since then.
A lot of problems continued to emerge and threaten the stability of the platform 'til this day. Despite the social chaos of Twitter, it couldn't be denied that Twitter has -- or used to have -- certain functionalities and accessibilities that helped a lot of people connect to online communities such as fandoms much easier whether as lurkers or active users. Twitter is in no way "better" than Tumblr, Reddit, Discord, and the like, but it does offer something that other platforms do not have. This is why it's such a shame that the platform has been dying a slow death ever since Spiral Abyss man had the audacity to buy it and ruin it.
I will not deny that branching out to as many other platforms and other social media as possible is one of the strategies that many content creators use to reach many people. While it is inevitable for me to adopt this strategy too, it still pains me to see my primary platform in shambles and potentially losing connection to the communities I've come to love. The incompetence of the Spiral Abyss man is killing many communities that rely on this platform.
1. Twitch (https://www.twitch.tv/celestiabyss)
There is such a high learning curve for me when learning extra platforms such as Tumblr and Discord, which is why these two have been collecting dust for so long. I do have Twitch and Youtube as my other more active platforms though, and as someone who just started streaming months ago, it will be a challenge for me to rely mostly on these two alone to reach you. I will see what I can do to better inform everyone of when I'm streaming. But for now, pls keep an eye out on my other platforms. All of them use the "celestiabyss" username:
- I will still be streaming there starting this week once I finish my uni stuff and recover from my sickness this week. Target return date will be on JULY 5 AT 10 PM GMT+8. Please check the Profile tab and Schedule tab of my page for sched announcements.
2. Youtube (youtube.com/@celestiabyss) - All Twitch VODs and future content will still be uploaded here. Twitch stream schedules and other announcements will also be announced through my Youtube channel's Community posts. I currently do not have plans to stream on Youtube, but if I ever feel like learning how to do so, I will let you know.
3. Tumblr (https://celestiabyss.tumblr.com) - This is the backup socmed account I made ever since Twitter started crumbling around November 2022. It's mostly on hiatus right now, so I'll still see what I can do to resume long-form lore posting here.
Anyways that would be it for now. I need to get back to finishing my papers and recovering. All this platform planning will come again later. I'll see you when I see you and stay tuned on my Twitch streams 🌠
4. Discord (celestiabyss) - I am very inactive in this fandom-focused Discord account since I use my personal one more. But yes, I'm in the following lore servers: (1) Khaenri'ah Lore Project and (2) Coffee and Culture. I'm also in GenshinSupportClub's server. I haven't checked them in a long time though and I have yet to learn how to fully navigate these servers. To all my Twitter mutuals who I have gotten to interact with through Genshin and HSR lore tweets: pls let me know if you have a server too (LET ME INNNN 😆).

Don’t Let Water Put a Damper on Your Epsom Home: A Homeowner’s Guide to Tackling Water Damage
Living in Epsom certainly means that the odd rainy day is par for the course, but occasionally, some of this moisture finds a way in.
Water may cause chaos when getting into your walls, but how do you overcome water damage to your drywall and plaster?
Fear not, fellow homeowners! This guide equips you with the knowledge and steps on how to tackle water damage effectively and get your Epsom home back to its sprightly self.
Step 1: Be a leak detective!
First things first, stop the culprit! Identify the source of the water intrusion. Common suspects in Epsom include:
Leaky Roofs: After any storm, look for loose shingles or ripped flashings.
Burst Pipes: Be listening for any unusual hissing sounds or signs of dampness near pipes.
Condensation build up: The damp climate of Epsom can contribute to condensation. Proper ventilation is key!
Step 2: Assess the damage
Once you’ve stopped the leak, it’s time to assess the battlefield. Look for the signs of damage which are caused due to water.
Discoloration: This can be around water stains or as brown patches on your walls.
Soft Spots: Drywall or plaster would suggest that moisture has entered the area if it is spongy to pressure.
Crumbling Plaster: Many homes, a number of decades old, have plaster walls, and in this case, damage from the water can cause them to crumble or flake.
Mould: This loves dampness, so be extra vigilant for any musty smells or visible mould spores. Keep in mind that Epsom’s damp climate can speed up damage, so strong scrutiny of the potential mould growth in your home will be critically needed.
Step 3: Dry it out completely.
Before any repairs can begin, we need to completely eliminate the moisture. This may entail combining:
Fans: Circulate air to promote drying, particularly when working in enclosed spaces.
Dehumidifiers: devices that remove excessive moisture from the air, thereby ceasing further damage and the growth of mould.
Specialised Drying Equipment: In cases of extensive water damage, specialised drying equipment from a professional could be required.
Step 4: Clean up Time!
Now that everything is dried, it’s clean-up time! A light detergent solution should clean up a lot of the dirt and debris left behind from the water damage.
Mould Growth: If you see mould, DON’T PANIC. Here’s how to safely do it:
Mix a solution of one cup bleach with one gallon of water.
Protect yourself when scrubbing over mould with bleach.
Sanitise: Apply the bleach solution to the affected area; let it stay on for some moments before washing well and scrubbing.
Step 5: Patch up the walls
Now, let us get our walls looking new!
Minor Damage:
Patch kits are your best friend for small holes and cracks. Follow the instructions, and your walls will be back in no time!
Larger Damage:
If the holes are recurrently large, most of the time it is necessary to cut out the bad section and replace it with a new piece of drywall. Attach it with screws and cover with joint compound; paint over it for smooth finishing.
For extensive water damage or repairs beyond your DIY comfort zone, consider calling a professional plaster and drywall contractor in Epsom.
Step 6: Avoid Future Fiascos
following are some things you can do to save your Epsom home from future water damage catastrophes:
Regular Checks: Allow for regular checks on your roofing, pipes, and other weak points in the structure following a storm or seasonal change.
Ventilation is key! : Enhance the ventilation of your home. This will prevent moisture build up and stop condensation from forming.
Waterproofing Efforts: Consider waterproofing your basement or exterior walls for added protection from Epsom’s wet weather.
When to enlist the experts
Extensive water damage: When the water damage is widespread or affects a significant portion of your wall, attempting DIY repairs might be overwhelming and lead to further complications.
For extensive water damage, consider calling a qualified plaster and drywall contractor in Epsom. They have the experience and equipment to handle large-scale repairs efficiently and ensure a proper restoration of your walls.
Electrical hazards: If the water has spread to electrical devices or sockets, please do not attempt to repair them yourself! This would lead to electrical danger that will most certainly be fatal.
Immediately shut off the power supply to the concerned area and seek electrical assistance before any water damage repairs are taken up.
Mould remediation (especially if the affected area is large): Mould growth can be a health hazard, especially if it covers a large area. While you can attempt cleaning small mould patches yourself, extensive mould remediation requires professional intervention.
Qualified plaster and drywall contractors in Epsom can help ensure the safe and complete removal of mould spores to prevent future outbreaks.
Conclusion
Remember, with a little know-how and the right approach, you can conquer water damage and keep your Epsom home healthy and beautiful. If you’re ever unsure about the extent of the damage or the best course of action, don’t hesitate to consult a professional. Local plaster and drywall contractors in Epsom are readily available to assess the situation, recommend solutions, and restore your home to its pre-water damage glory.
Important FAQs About Water Damage in Epsom Homes
Q1: What if I cannot find where it is leaking from?
In such a case, when you are literally stumped on where the leak is originating from, it is best to call in a qualified plumber or water damage restoration specialist. They will have the needed expertise and equipment to search out hidden leaks efficiently.
Q2: Can I clean mould myself?
For small mould patches (less than 3 square feet), you can try cleaning them yourself by using a bleach solution. Be aware that extensive mould growth or infestation is a health hazard, so professional remediation is needed to fully eradicate it and to take necessary measures against potential outbreaks of further mould occurrences.
Q3. How long does it take to dry the water damage?
Drying time will depend upon the extent of damage and air circulation. Small drips may dry in a matter of a few days if ventilation is proper and good fan work is provided. Larger areas could require dehumidifiers or special drying machinery for a week or even longer.
Q4: Will my insurance cover water damage?
In general, most homeowners’ policies can cover water damage, although there is some variation in that depending on the cause. For less general advice, you are best looking at your policy document or contacting your insurance provider.
With the above tips and quick fixes for water damage, you will keep your Epsom home safe from water’s wrath and comfortable and healthy for years to come. By following these steps and seeking professional help from qualified plaster and drywall contractors in Epsom when necessary, you can ensure your Epsom home stays beautiful and water damage-free.

Dental Emergency: What to Do When You Need Immediate Dental Care
Dental emergencies are really upsetting painful conditions where your day to day life is affected all of a sudden. Knowing how to handle these does make a big difference in avoiding discomfort and pain. Be it a sudden tooth ache, a broken tooth, or worse, proper action taken can save your tooth and reduce discomfort. Following is a guide by a dentist himself on how to act when one needs emergency dental care. But just remember, after following all this, the most necessary step in all of these cases would be to visit the dentist as early as possible so that your pain could be comforted and the right procedure could be started.
Identify the Emergency: First of all, the clue to dealing correctly with your dental emergency is understanding what the cause and problem is.
Severe Toothache: This may be due to infection and may mean a serious condition like an abscess. Remove if any food has been caught between the teeth. This is the least you can do before visiting the dentist. You can also have pain killers.
Fractured Tooth: If the tooth is fractured due to some force, save that part of the tooth for the dentist to see. Avoid using the broken tooth when chewing. Knocked-out tooth: here, time is of the essence. The tooth should be handled only from the crown. Cleaning with water is advised if necessary. Immediately soak the tooth in a container containing cold milk or water with salt after adding a pinch until you see your dentist, who must be visited at the earliest so that the tooth can be placed back in its place. Loose Tooth: If the tooth is mobile and still attached, try to position it to its place if possible. And again, visit us as early as possible so that we can help you with the same. Visit us as soon as possible: Your family Dentist: If you happen to have a family dentist in vicinity, then calling them and explaining the situation as soon as possible is the thing to do. Most dental clinics have emergency services or at least instructions to help in urgent situations. Like we at 32 pearls have an emergency contact number, where patients can call for help in such cases of emergencies. Emergency Dental Care: If your dentist isn’t available because of late hour, then find the dental department of any government hospital. As these places are open 24*7 so you can always seek help there. Pain and Swelling Control
Relieving Pain: Analgesics like Ibuprofen and Acetaminophen be taken to temporary get a relief from the pain and avoid discomfort.
Cold Compress: These are very helpful in managing swelling and can also numb the pain. Apply for 15-20 minutes to the affected area. Modify Your Diet and Activities
Diet: Avoid all hard or extreme-temperature foods; instead, consume soft foods which are easy to chew without further aggravating the problem.
Activities: Avoid chewing on the same side where the problem is located. Any activity needs to be performed with extreme caution so that there isn't an increase in injury or pain of your mouth. Follow up Care
Visit the Dentist: Though the pain might have gone, it is always suggested that one should visit the dentist to cure the main cause of the problem to avoid further complications. Your dentist will sure your pain and also advice you with tips on how to prevent such conditions in future.
Conclusion Though scary, dental emergencies can be a lot different in the knowledge of how to act. The steps involve identification of the problem, informing the dentist as soon as possible, managing discomfort and swelling, and lastly adjusting food and activities to handle it easily. Timely professional treatment can save your teeth from permanent damage. Never panic; just act right on time to take necessary care for your healthy and intact smile. Remove DynamicMore Virus from Mac OS X - Free Guide
Ever felt like your Mac isn’t quite itself? Maybe it's slower than usual, or you're seeing ads that feel a bit too personal? If so, you might have encountered the DynamicMore virus. No need to worry though, because if you've found this malware guide, you're about to turn things around. Let's walk through how to clean your Mac of this pesky intruder, ensuring it runs smoothly again.
What is the DynamicMore Virus?
Imagine you downloaded what you thought was a helpful app, but it turned out to be a wolf in sheep's clothing, wreaking havoc behind the scenes. That's what the DynamicMore virus does—it masquerades as legitimate software while it disrupts your system, displays ads, and may even monitor your activities.
How Did DynamicMore Infect Your Mac?
DynamicMore typically finds its way onto your Mac through bundled software installations or by downloading apps from unreliable sources. It's like picking up a hitchhiker who turns out to be a bit of a nightmare guest.
Signs Your Mac is Infected
Here’s what to look out for:
Your Mac is slower than its usual self.
Ads pop up unexpectedly.
Your web browser’s homepage has changed without your input.
Applications you don’t remember installing appear.
Step 1: Quit Suspicious Applications
First things first, open your Activity Monitor (found in Applications > Utilities) and quit any process that looks unusual or that you don’t recognize.
Step 2: Remove Applications Related to DynamicMore
Navigate to your Applications folder. Drag any suspicious applications to the Trash, especially those you installed recently and coincide with the appearance of issues.
Step 3: Clean Up Your Login Items
Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups, click your username, and then click Login Items. Remove anything linked to DynamicMore or that you don’t recognize.
Step 4: Remove Malicious Extensions
Open your browser and remove any extensions that you didn’t install yourself or that seem to generate ads. Each browser has a slightly different process to manage extensions, but you can generally find this option in the preferences menu.
Step 5: Clear Cache and Cookies

The Risks of Pressure Washing Solar Panels: 8 Consequences You Should Know
Solar system repairs Sydney services have pointers and advice for their clients before they go, and it always includes how to take care of your solar panels. And though it can be tempting, using pressure washers to clean the panels can cause issues in the future. Solar panels are a vital part of utilising solar energy, so proper care and maintenance are necessary. If you are tempted to use a pressure washer to clean your panels, here are some of the many reasons why you should not do it:
Damage to the Solar Panel Surface
The first risk of pressure washing your solar panels is the damage it can do to the solar panel surface. The pressure of the water can create scratches and cracks that could be difficult to remove or fix. In this kind of situation, repairs might not be enough to ensure that the solar panels will be fine and will continue to work perfectly. Its efficiency will be compromised, creating negative changes in your solar usage.
Loss of Warranty
Warranty is a vital part of every product and service you will get. With this guarantee, you can ensure that you have a backup if something goes wrong. However, there are reservations when it comes to warranties, like not covering customer-fault issues. Pressure washing the solar panels is one of them, so avoid using them to prevent voiding the warranty.
Electrical Hazards
When kids start to study, one of the things they learn early is that water and electricity do not mix. And if they do get mixed, some consequences could risk the safety of the people and the property. It is not any different when it comes to pressure washing your solar panels, considering that it has wirings and cables that need to be taken care of. Cleaning the panels using a pressure washer can cause electric shock if it enters the electrical components.
Microcracks Amplification
Microcracks might look like nothing to some, but this thin damage can cause more issues than you can think. Tiny microcracks can widen and worsen the current problem of the solar panel, especially if it involves previous cracks and scratches. The force of the pressure washer can directly hit the microcrack, damaging the panel more. Yes, it is not easily visible to the naked eye, but using the pressure washer is already a mistake in so many different ways.
Potential Mould Growth
Just by thinking about moulds, you can already feel the disgust it will bring to your home. So, imagine having it on your solar panels. If you clean the panels with too much water pressure, the water can get trapped under, causing moisture and triggering mould and mildew. A buildup of this problem will hinder the overall performance of the panels and might even cause health problems for those with allergies and asthma.
Increased Maintenance Costs
The damage that the pressure washer will cause to your solar panels just means that you need to anticipate an increase in maintenance costs. Repairing the damage is not easy and can be costly, depending on the severity of the problem. If you keep using the pressure washer for your solar panels, be ready for extensive repairs. In the worst cases, replacements.
Risk of Falling
Though pressure washers look light, carrying them on the roof to clean the solar panels is already wrong. There is a risk of falling and getting injuries from doing so. Do not let this happen to you by knowing how to clean your solar panels properly. Better yet, hire a professional to do the job. They have the correct tools for cleaning the panels without getting into trouble and guaranteeing safety.
Decreased Lifespan
Once the solar panels start to show problems, you might want to anticipate the decrease in their lifespan to lessen the disappointment. It might require premature replacement, adding costs to your budget.
Cleaning solar panels must be done correctly to ensure that they will last for years. May this list of consequences help you learn more about solar panel maintenance and preservation. Make your investment worth it by learning everything about it.

Nephilim End-Times Strategy: Artificial Intelligence’s Role in the Last Days
What will life be like in 20 years? What forms of energy will be available to us?
Breakthroughs in science will transform our lives. Many of the innovations will use atomic energy. There will be quantum computers billions of times more powerful than today’s PCs. Some inventions are already interfacing with contact lenses that will beam data into our eyes.
Technology is advancing from every direction and is moving faster with each passing day. There will be an increase of knowledge in the last days:
“... close up and seal the words of the scroll until the time of the end. Many will go here and there to increase knowledge” (Daniel 12:4, NIV).
The Hebrew word, “to increase,” means to multiply. In other words, there shall be an explosion of knowledge.
3-D Printing
Imagine printing a solid object, into a 3-D format. 3-D printing is a device that manufactures a three-dimensional object, layer by layer. Instead of ink, it uses plastic, metal, nylon or other substances. On a standard printer, a nozzle passes over the paper that builds a picture line-by-line. The nozzle on a 3-D printer lays down layers of material that builds a solid object.
Most manufacturing processes produce things by cutting and drilling, removing material until what remains is the desired size or shape. 3-D printers do the opposite, adding to the item in stages until it’s complete. This makes it very efficient, as there is almost no waste.
The potential for 3-D printing is huge. Some have described it as the third industrial revolution. Today, companies use 3-D printing to make prototypes of items they intend to manufacture. For example, 3-D mockups of new shoe designs are printed in order for designers to see what works and what does not work. This allows them to make the necessary revisions before they create the actual shoe, which greatly speeds up the preproduction process and saves a lot of money.
But there is a dark side to this amazing invention. How do you stop people such as criminals or terrorists from using 3-D printers to produce illegal items? Guns, which were built from over 30 stainless steel and nickel parts, have already been printed and tested in Austin, Texas. They are lethal weapons and can be used by good or evil people.
Self-Driving Cars
There are technologies that exist on vehicles today such as cruise control, lane guidance, assisted brakes and automated parking. Self-driving cars are being tested on U.S. roads, and there is already an automated car system in place at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal Five in England. Even with all of the questions we might ask, self-driving cars around the world are proving to be more capable than human-driven vehicles.
Power Without Wires
Technological advancements mean there will be no need for cables to plug into your mobile devices to charge batteries. The future of wireless power is on the horizon. Presently, one is able to place their phone on a charging mat and the battery replenishes itself. This is an important invention for charging electric car batteries. Electric cars will refresh their batteries while they drive past a recharging station without stopping. A wireless future could be more imminent than we think.

Robot vacuum cleaners roam the house without human supervision. Today, robots can run like a cheetah and even make their own decisions. Amazingly, they can even look like real human beings. One robot, if it’s knocked over or stumbles, can regain its balance, as well as walk on slippery ice without falling.
Hollywood movies about robotic creatures are a dime a dozen. The progressive growth of robots and drones pose a serious threat to society, which could limit one’s personal privacy and civil liberties, as well as basic human rights. The benefits of such innovations will be eroded by the development of new robot technologies for monitoring, checking and following humans. How do you think the antichrist will use such technology?
Soon, we are told, fully autonomous machines could be fighting our wars and selecting kill targets with no human intervention. How robots affect our future remains to be seen, but the fact is they provide us with the possibility to go beyond the limits of human progress. It may not be very long before colleagues are made of steel, rather than flesh. The U.S. military is pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into bionics research, partly because of military victims who have lost their limbs.
Artificial Limbs
Technological innovation is advancing the limits of what modern prostheses can do. For salamanders, losing a limb isn’t so bad because they just simply grow another one. Scientists are busy studying salamanders in order to pin down the biological process behind the regeneration capacity, in the hope that one day it will be replicated in humans. Recently, a man who lost his nose to cancer had it replaced with one that grew from stem cells. In a north London hospital, scientists are growing noses, ears and blood vessels in the laboratory in a bold attempt to make body parts by using stem cells.
Man-Made Limbs
The human brain makes 100 trillion calculations per second. By 2050, we are told a desktop computer will have the equivalent processing power of 9 billion brains. We are in the midst of a powerful acceleration in computer technology, and when computers gain artificial intelligence, with the ability to reason and communicate ideas like a human can, it will change everything. The question is, will computers dominate humans or will humans still control the Earth? Within 30 years, science will produce the hardware and the software to create super human intelligence. These machines will be vastly superior to human intelligence.
Quantum Computing
Quantum models could one day replace today’s supercomputers. We are heading toward smaller, faster processors with more hard drive capacity. The number of transistors on integrated circuits is doubling every two years. Quantum computing harnesses the power of atoms and molecules to perform memory and processing tasks. The potential of quantum computing is light years faster than the conventional computer used today.
Nanotechnology
Just what is a nano? A nano is one billionth of a meter. A nano is to a meter as a marble is to the Earth. Scientists are working on tiny computer chips called smart dust, which will cover the infrastructure of a city or town and monitor everyone’s moves to know when and where each and every person is at any given moment. When one enters their office building, the smart dust will boot up their computer and open doors automatically for their every move, including opening the elevator door and ringing their floor. The iPhone is an early sample of what is to come. Technology not only involves non-living microchips. It also involves biological “chips.” Nanotechnology includes duplicating microscopic molecules like the one cell bacteria flagellum for the purpose of attacking deadly diseases in the human body such as cancer cells. Nanotechnology is inevitable and is going to be a huge part of our lives soon.
The Human Genome Project
The human genome project was one of man’s greatest scientific achievements in the 20th century. The aim of the project was to map all of the genes that make up the human being, which carry the detailed instruction manual of our bodies that is within every cell. This hereditary information is coded in the DNA. It is in the DNA where the human genes are found that provide instructions essential for life. The DNA molecule contains around 24,000 genes. The project mapped the function of each gene. The benefits of this project will help in preventing disease.
This mapping will be common knowledge, just as one’s blood type can be known. As a result, medical breakthroughs offer hope to those who are suffering from inherited diseases. A defective gene can be replaced, eliminated or made inactive and a gene can be introduced into the body to help fight a disease. The genome project was an international venture with scientists from 20 countries working on it. The job was completed in 2003, 50 years after the discovery of the DNA molecule.
The dark side of this amazing endeavor is when mankind begins to tinker with human genetics, where are the boundaries? Can an embryo with a defective gene be treated before birth? That would be wonderful! But the potential side effects producing lasting complications are unknown. In humanistic hands, mankind will be able to manipulate the human body to be altered from God’s original plan.
Becoming Biological Machines?
Are we already becoming machines? We wear digital earpieces. We seem lost without our wireless devices. Contacts are now being created to fit over one’s eye to connect to the Web. Robotic exoskeletons are now being made to perform everything man does manually with great ease.
Technology empowers the disabled to live a normal life. Robotic legs can allow an individual to walk who has no physical legs. Sightless individuals now have the ability to see. Contact lenses are now being created that will provide a stream of data to guide one through life—data that is literally projected in front of their eyes. They are called electronic contact lenses. The display will not be confused with one’s perception of the world. Voiceless people now have the ability to speak, and now, we can implant chips in the brain of a stroke victim, which allows them to control a robotic arm. The computer decodes the victims’ neural signals in the brain that connects with the implanted chip. Technology is reshaping human history.
Tattooed Tech
Scientists are also working on creating an electronic tattoo that would be implanted on the throat of an individual enabling him or her to communicate with smart phones via Bluetooth connections. The tattoo would include a microscopic microphone and power source. The invention would allow individuals to communicate via voice commands without having to wear an earpiece or headset. The device would allow one to communicate in a crowded noisy room, as well as listen to music without earphones. In addition, Google’s glass technology is producing a wearable computer with a smartphone display that lets the user text, browse the Web, take photos and run other apps, all hands-free.
Artificial Intelligence
In a few decades, living beings as we know them might not be the only intelligent life on our planet. But what does that mean to us? Will these intelligent machines be able to think? Thinking is what separates men from the machines. In the latter, what goes in goes out. Whatever the machine is programmed to do, it will do, which allows it to make calculations that can even outsmart mankind. For example, artificial intelligence really captured the public’s imagination in 1997, when the supercomputer Deep Blue beat world champion Gary Kasparov at chess. The society we live in already has plenty of functional intelligent-design systems. Have you ever used the Siri app on the iPhone? It’s just a matter of time before artificial intelligence runs our lives, even though it doesn’t respond emotionally with feelings of gloom and despondency.
Artificial intelligence is inevitable. Digital creatures have been created in the computer. These computerized images make decisions on their own— when to turn, eat, rest, etc. They are able to pass on this info in their digital brains to their offspring. Each generation gets smarter, so they can survive longer. Experts claim by the year 2035, human level intelligence will exist in these robotic creatures.
Robots will look and act more and more like humans. In Japan, humanoids are being produced today in the laboratories. They respond exactly like their human twin. They speak identically to their creator, even mirroring every twitch of the eye. Robots will be commonplace in the future society with realistic humanoids, whose intelligence will rival our own. We will not know which is human when we pass one on the street or in the office.
Teleporting A Human
Most everyone has heard of Star Trek’s science fiction technology of a person being transported to a distant location through what is called a teleportation machine, commonly known as being “beamed up.” Is such an idea possible from a scientific standpoint? We all know how easy it is to copy and cut-and-paste a phrase using a computer and then send it through cyberspace on the Web. Is it possible that quantum mechanics can “cut and paste” and then transport living matter?
In 1997, a team of scientists at the University at Innsbruck in Austria demonstrated quantum teleportation, transmitting and reconstructing the state of a photon over a distance. It seems that science is attempting to accomplish what we read about in Scripture. The Bible provides examples of what mankind is attempting to accomplish in the natural—the prophet Elijah being translated in a fiery chariot (2 Kings 2), Philip being translated from place to place (Acts 8:39), and Christ Jesus’ ascension into the heavens (Acts 1:9).
Nanotechnology, Robotics and Genetics
Mankind is developing three technologies that will eventually converge and function together. First, there are nanotechnologies, which involve molecule-sized machines. These are tiny, tiny biological and mechanical microscopic machines. Second, there is the technology of robotics, which is self-modifying (altering, changing) sentient (conscious) machines. These machines are computer-driven devices that can reprogram themselves. Third is genetics, and this involves self-replicating (copying) entities (humans) that can manipulate and maneuver other mechanisms and devices.
These three technologies are destined to converge and interconnect with one another. The goal to converge these technologies is to create self-copying, conscious machines that can be directed to target diseases or specific groups or individuals. For example, a virus will be engineered that will attack only certain combinations of DNA. The evil side of this is the misuse of such technology in the hands of fallen man.

How To Save Money When Hiring A Pest Control Company
It can be a huge problem when you have a pest problem. It might cost a lot and take some time to get rid of your pests, but it is necessary. Use the following advice to prevent pests from ruining your home.
Ask any professional you hire for references. Just because they have an ad in your yellow pages does not mean that they do good business. They only way to be sure that you are going to get your money's worth is to verify that their other customers are satisfied with their work.
Make sure that when you install your windows, they come equipped with screens for protection. Screens can serve as a very strong line of defense for bugs, as most will not get into your home if you have a good screen up. This small investment can save a lot of trouble in the future.
Eliminate pests naturally. Sometimes you don't need to resort to chemicals to control pests. Removing sources of water, food and shelter is one way to get rid of them. This is particularly effective in the case of rodents. If you have pets, don't leave food or water bowls outside, and ensure that you don't have any holes or cracks in the exterior of your home.
If you are living in a multi-unit building, any form of individual pest control measures that you take will be ineffective. This is because those pests can travel from one apartment unit to another. To get rid of the bugs completely, your whole building needs to be treated at one time.
Be careful of using poison if you own a dog, cat or other pet. A dog or cat can easily ingest poisons that are on these rodents if they should happen to catch one. Not only is bad for your pets, it is extremely bad if there are children present. Kids might think the pellets are candy.
You shouldn't have to put up with creepy-crawly things in your home or see a scattering of bugs when you turn a light on after dark; take action to solve this problem now. Use the tips in this article to start evicting those awful things from your home. The longer you wait, the more they procreate!

coffee cart girl (pt5)
words: 3,418 ship: austin x female reader summary: you’re the coffee runner on the set of Elvis. Coffee deliveries run pretty easy, until Austin accidently spills coffee on you. notes: thank you so much for all the support! previous parts are under this tag, this part was inspired by this gifset warnings: none tag list: under the cut! sorry if your username does not link up on the post if you requested to be put on the tag list (it’s getting hefty! :)), unsure how I could fix that. please let me know if you’d like to be added or removed.
Despite everything changing, things stay the same—which is actually pretty comforting. You keep showing up on set, day-in-day-out, serve coffee, come back home and then wake up to do it all over again. You have to admit that you feel slightly lighter working your coffee deliveries and know it has everything to do with this relationship you’re building with Austin. Keeping things under wrap for right now feels like the best idea, just between the two of you, which is exactly what you both need right now. With Austin constantly working on Elvis, you have no interest in being in any sort of spotlight—at least not yet. Your script work is getting better but you’re still figuring out the steps that you’ll need to move forward, to get yourself out there—be noticed.
The last thing you want is for someone to assume you haven’t gotten somewhere by talent alone but because of who you know, or in this case, who you’re seeing.
Austin has always seemed like a very private guy anyways, he’s not very active on social media—he likes to keep his personal life exactly that, personal. It leaves you with this intimate bubble forms over you both, time to get to know one another and develop on shared feelings. It may not look like normal dating, and it might seem like sneaking around sometimes, but that doesn’t bother you.
In the end—what you have with Austin is no one’s business.
Except, you do want to tell Jillian.
Getting on set Thursday, you make a direct route to one of the makeup trailers that she works in. Climbing inside and closing the door, you make sure you’re alone with her before spilling the beans. You tell her everything, from start to finish, all the details you feel like are necessary to get you both on the same page.
It doesn’t take much—Jillian already thought that Austin liked you, so the conclusion jumping is a short distance once she has all the information.
Jillian’s face somehow looks like an emoji, a permanent heightened emotion that is hearteyes and shocked all at the same time. Her jaw may also be taking up a residence on the floor, she hasn’t closed her mouth since you began talking.
“I fucking knew it.” She laughs, “I’m so good at sensing chemistry—like, I should probably quit my job here and become a relationship guru,” You roll your eyes even though you’re smiling, “Or a tarot card reader.”
“You can’t tell anyone Jillian, I mean it.” You say after a moment, taking a step closer to your friend. “Austin and I don’t want our business out there.”
“Austin and I,” She repeats with a dreamy laugh, “Our,” She shakes her head, curls tied up in clip today, which is probably a good thing seeing as how she seems to be vibrating at a high frequency. “Does that feel weird to say—like, you’re dating a celebrity.”
You let out a slow breath, your stomach fluttering in a slightly nervous way that it does sometimes. It’d be obtuse not to acknowledge the elephant in the room that Austin is, in fact, a celebrity, that he is different than someone you met at a coffee shop or a bar. You two are very unique in that sense and are on distinct paths for your futures. But at the same time you find it important to remind yourself that Austin is human, he’s a regular guy that has normal emotions, needs and desires. You’re on the same page, you’re working together on this.
But that doesn’t mean that sometimes this whole thing doesn’t blow your mind because it does. It’s as if you’re worried you might wake up from a dream or something, harsh reality ready to grab you by the throat.
“Jillian,” You repeat, holding her gaze so you know she’s actually listening.
Jillian sighs, head tossed back towards the ceiling, “I hear you, promise. I won’t say a word to anyone.” And you do believe her otherwise you wouldn’t have said anything in the first place. Jillian might be a little eccentric but she’s trustworthy. “Are you going to go out on dates…or?”
You pause a moment, considering that…you actually hadn’t thought about it. So much of your interactions kinda stem on being on set together, you spend time between shoots, when you bring coffee or Austin lets you know when he’s taking food breaks but…
Eventually Elvis will come to an end and then what? There’s award shows and interviews and a very public eye. You’re pretty sure that even now if you two were to go out, someone would notice and put it out into the world—a fan, a pap, a gossip tabloid, too many different outcomes. One of the great things about set is that you can have privacy here.
“We’re figuring it out.” And it sounds like such a lame excuse right now but to be honest you don’t want to admit that it hasn’t crossed your mind.
Jillian just smiles before nodding, the door to the trailer opening up before any more questions can be asked. You’re secretly kind of thanking whoever’s listening for that—if your friend thinks you need to be a bit more planned about your future with Austin, she doesn’t comment.
Right now you think a day-to-day approach is best…but maybe a little bit more of a strategy wouldn’t hurt either.
--
The day is as busy as it always is, filled with running around on last minute rotations and add-ons mixed with your regular orders. Sal actually seems like she’s in a decent mood for once, which is always a nice surprise. You take your afternoon lull at the typical picnic bench, getting some serious editing done on your script as you slowly sip on a coffee. Second readthrough is done, now all that’s left is reading it outloud to catch any last mistakes before…letting a second pair of eyes actually look at it.
Speaking of—
You frown, picking up the clipboard nearby that had your morning and afternoon orders on it. Just as you thought, you don’t see Austin’s name anywhere. Time had been runnin’ so smoothly, you barely noticed that he hadn’t placed any coffee orders. Normally, you might not think that was odd but…after ending up on the same page, it’s usually a nice stolen few moments to see one another through a busy day.
You chew on your lower lip—it’s probably just a hectic day for him but there’s also a small pit in your stomach that is slowly beginning to feel like a black hole for whatever reason. You put the script in your bag and decide to stretch your legs, dropping your things off where you usually keep them and take a long stroll around set.
In a not surprising turn of events, you end up outside Austin’s trailer. Glancing around for a moment, you take a sip of coffee and make your way up the steps—at the very least you can pretend you have a last-minute caffeine fix for him, should anyone ask. You knock on the door and wait, taking a step back to make room for the door to open.
It takes a few moments but when it finally does, you pause, unsure of what to say.
Despite still getting to know him, it’s very plain to see that he’s upset. He must be in-between scenes because he’s in his own clothes, jeans, a black shirt, his hair scrubbed free of gel from what looks like his hands going through it. His face is slightly pink, eyes red-rimmed and wet and it somehow makes the color seem even more blue. He works his jaw a moment, swallowing, seemingly trying to get ahold of himself.
You’re kinda dumbfounded because…you’ve obviously never seen him like this before.
Blinking, you realize that you should say something. “Hi,” You pause, taking a breath, “Do you—you want me to leave you alone?”
“No,” He says quickly, clearing his throat. His voice is twinged with emotion, slightly deeper than usual as he opens the door so you can walk over the threshold, “You can come in.”
You hesitate for a moment before wandering inside, the door closing behind you. Austin moves to lean against the kitchenette counter and you stand in front of him, putting your cup of coffee down near the sink. You give him a few moments to collect himself, watching as he runs a hand over his forehead, swallowing, the muscles in his jaw flexing again. Your gaze flutters over the rings he has on today, both gold, one on his middle finger while the other rests on his pinky.
Did something happen? You’re trying not to bombard him with questions…so you do the only thing you think you can in that moment, remembering how his hand had smoothed its way down your back during that migraine. One hand moves to settle along his arm, squeezing, while the other gently rests along his neck. Your fingers graze the bottom of his jawline, his pulse quick and skin warm where you’re touching. You feel, rather than see him, take a short breath in.
Whatever’s got him worked up, it’s at least good to know that he’s letting himself feel it rather than keep it buried underneath his ribcage. Some people are so concerned about strong emotions, never allowing themselves to give into them, feeling like they have to keep them hidden or tucked away. Austin’s not only allowing himself to feel, but he’s also letting you see him like this.
Neither of you say anything for a while, just stand there together, soaking one another in. You rub along his arm, sometimes your other hand moving to cup his cheek, stroking along his cheekbone. He sniffles, running one of his own hands underneath his eyes before letting out a slow breath,
“Sometimes it’s uh, it’s hard for me to take a step back from what I’m doin’.”
You nod and honestly, a lot of details aren’t necessary. You're sure the emotional toll is sometimes brutal, how hard it must be to separate his feelings out between what's reality and what's the film. You know that Austin gives absolutely everything to his work—it's obvious in the way he carries himself, how he speaks about his roles, in interviews you've seen and even in conversations you've shared with him.
He doesn’t need to explain himself.
It’s a bit crushing to see him like this—you wish you knew what to say. “Can I do anything?”
Austin shakes his head, giving you a small smile. Removing the hand that you have along his cheek, he presses a kiss to the inside of your wrist, “You’re doin’ it.”
You smile back, your stomach doing that ridiculous fluttering thing it sometimes does because of him. “I was wonderin’ why your coffee orders were missing from my clipboard.”
“Just been kinda nauseous all day,” Austin admits, running a hand through his hair, “Stomach’s in a knot.”
You’ve heard rumors that way before filming started Baz had organized for studio producers, crew, and the like to heckle Austin while he played some of his first Elvis songs. This wasn’t done without a purpose—much of Elvis’s first performances as an artist were similar. Regardless, you can’t imagine what it’d be like to experience something like that, especially if you’re already nervous about embodying such a role.
You wonder if today was something similar in the studio…or maybe it’s just a bad day. Not all of them can be perfect, even if Austin shows up ready to work as hard as he possibly can.
Taking a small breath in, you step back from him—you don’t have much time left on your own break before you’ll have to start taking late-night coffee orders. You’re sure he wants to spend a bit more on his own before he’s called to hair and makeup or wardrobe.
“I’ll see you later?” You offer, leaving it open just in case he wants to take the rest of the day to himself. You wouldn’t blame him, sometimes time alone is the best way to bounce back.
But Austin reaches for your wrist as you move to leave, squeezing gently, “I’ll find you.”
Giving him one last smile, you grab your cup of coffee and head out of his trailer.
--
Shooting stretches until two AM, which is not at all surprising. You end up leaving set around midnight, making a convenience run to grab a few things before making your way back to your favorite picnic bench outside the food tent. It’s a skeleton crew and luckily no one seems to bother to ask you why you’re still hanging out, walking past you with either a goodnight or no words at all.
Looking up as you hear footsteps approach, you smile when you see Austin, sliding off the table you’re sitting on to meet him halfway. He’s in his own set of clothes again but his hair is still styled to look like Elvis—the most important part, he looks a lot better than when you saw him this afternoon. Shoulders not as heavy looking, his eyes brighter,
“Hi,” Austin smiles down at you, “Fancy meetin’ you here.”
“I know,” You laugh lightly, “What a coincidence.” Throwing your bag over your shoulder, you walk with him towards his trailer. You don’t pass many people, which is comforting, before you finally make it to the destination. Austin heads up the steps first, opening the door for you to walk in.
Switching on the lights, the door closes behind you and you pause as you see that way back in the trailer…is in fact a bed. So it is true that some stars have legit places to sleep on set if they wish for late nights, naps between scenes. Though you’re not sure how that’d go—you always feel like such a zombie waking up from a nap. Can’t imagine that’s a good thing going from scene to scene.
So much for that being refreshing.
“Is that comfortable?” You ask, motioning to the bed as you put your bag down on the coffee table.
Austin looks up and in the direction of what you’re referring to, “Kinda, it has its moments when you’re really tired.”
“You gonna sleep there tonight?”
He purses his lips in thought, toeing his boots off near the couch. “Probably.”
And that…is totally not something to be thinking about right now. You shake your head as if to get rid of the imagery before clearing your throat, “I got you somethin’.”
He raises his eyebrows as you pass over the bag from the convenience store,
“Just my go-to’s when I’m feeling poorly.”
You smile, chewing on your lower lip as he pulls out a few essentials: a plastic container of Oreo’s, Ginger Ale, and mint tea.
“They didn’t have peanut butter.” Then quickly to clarify, “For the Oreo’s, I mean.”
Austin laughs softly, nodding, running his hand over the pack before smiling up at you. He reaches out to tug you close, placing a kiss on the bridge of your nose. “Thank you.”
You feel warmed from the inside out, blooming in your chest and sprouting outward. It’s not much and you’re not sure if his stomach is still upset but…you just wanted to be able to offer something to help. Sometimes a well-placed gesture is all you need.
Opening the pack of Oreo’s, he sets the bag on the coffee table to take a cookie out. Biting into it, he says, “I’ve never had Oreo’s with peanut butter before.”
You raise your eyebrows in mock outrage, “This is just unacceptable—don’t tell me you’re a cookies and milk kinda guy.”
He smiles a little guiltily—it’s cute. “You gonna take the cookies back if I say yes?”
You crinkle your nose, grabbing an Oreo for yourself. “Just please tell me you’re not a dunker.”
Austin shakes his head and well, good, at least you can work with that. Snagging a seat on the couch, you take your shoes off, crossing your legs up on the cushions. As you both eat through another sleeve of cookies, your mind wanders to this morning when you were talking with Jillian about…everything. The future, or at least what might happen when the filming of Elvis ends. You glance up at Austin, on the couch with you, one long leg folded up under himself, the other resting on the ground. His fingers hold one cookie while the other runs them along his lower lip, as if he’s in thought.
He touches his face a lot, you realize, especially when he seems to be considering something. After the emotive day he’s had, you’re not sure it’s the right time to really talk through what’s on your mind. There will be time for that.
Austin looks over at you as he takes an Oreo apart, which makes you scrunch your face a bit because you know he’s going straight for the icing. “How’s your script comin’?”
You take a soft breath into your chest, debating the words behind your teeth for a long few moments before, “Maybe end of the week you can look at it? If you’re not too busy.” No pressure, you can have Jillian read it over if he can’t.
“I’m not too busy for you.” Austin replies and he says it in such a way that has you believing it. Though, it’s a double-edged sword, you’re not quite sure how you’re going to handle him reading your script and…what if he thinks it’s absolutely awful? It’s just one opinion, sure, but you have to admit that it means a bit to you.
You shake out the nerves best you can and nod, determined, he’ll get that script by the end of the week.
Then you’ll go from there.
You stay on the couch for a while eating Oreos, easy conversation passing between the two of you. It kind of amazes you how simple it is that you can just…talk about anything. There’s topics that range from the serious (where do you see yourself in five years, who’s your biggest influence, book you could read over and over again) to the dramatic (zombie apocalypse—how fucked are you, favorite bird that you think has the biggest personality, drunk food go-to).
Another hour of time passes and it was already late to begin with, another yawn slipping past your lips,
“I think you should crash here,” Austin says, “That’s like your fifth one.”
You blink at the offer because no…while you know it’s late and he’s not wrong about you yawning a lot, the day catching up with you, you couldn’t possibly sleep here, right? On a few counts.
No…people would notice, wouldn’t they? While you like to think you blend into the background pretty easily, tomorrow would be the day for people to notice you coming out of Austin’s trailer, or in the same clothes you wore today. Way too risky, right?
And yet, for whatever reason that’s not what comes out of your mouth, “I think I got an extra pair of jeans in my car but—”
“I can grab you somethin’ from wardrobe.”
You raise your eyebrows, a scoff sneaking out. Oh really? “This couch is—”
“Let me worry about the couch, you’re takin’ the bed.”
Now you do laugh, “What you got an answer for everythin’?”
He grins, “Maybe.”
This is such a bad idea—the couch was comfortable enough to nap on when you had a migraine but getting a full night’s rest? Not even to mention, “Your legs are far too long for this thing.”
Now he’s amused, his eyes dancing warmly as he leans into your personal space. Your stomach flutters, gaze flickering down to his lips when he speaks, “You checkin’ me out Y/N?”
“You’re incorrigible.” You shake your head, gently poking at his chest.
Austin hums, “I’ve been told that’s my best quality.”
You don’t kiss him even though you really want to, a smile tugging the corners of your mouth—you realize within those few moments how much you like him, how your feelings for him are becoming more and more defined the longer you two figure this thing out together. At the same time, it’s a dangerous thing—you’re really falling for him.
You just hope it’s not too fast.

As someone who has been writing fanfic and using AO3 religiously for a long period of time, I want people to be aware of the answers given by Tiffany G, a final candidate for the OTW Board.
I know a lot of people haven't read the entire chat transcript or even know about the interview, but there are reasons for concern when it comes to her following answers.
Censorship has killed other fanwork based sites, so the things she's talking about are very concerning. She does not say that removal is where she wants to go, but her overall statements are worrisome for people who did experience the destructiveness of censorship in the past. She does not have a clear image and does not give clear answers as to how she would like to proceed or how it would affect AO3 users. There are discrepancies in the information she discusses, specifically the banning of AO3 in a certain country. I'm not saying that all of her ideas are bad and diversifying the board would be amazing, but not when it could come at a cost like this just so that AO3 can have a different perceived public image.
If any of the following is as concerning to you as it is me, make sure to vote as the election ends August 15, 2022, 23:59 UTC. If you can't vote, but are interested, follow these directions to become a voter for future elections!
Finally, here are her answers. Note that I have added transcripts of this all under the cut for people who need that as well. Again, the full interview and the answers from the other candidate can be found here.
Transcript:
Answer one -
Tiffany G Well, I think a lot of external people are very concerned about the fact that some works contain child pornography, pedophilic content, and other illegal content. If possible (this is not entirely possible after I chatted with people from PAC though), I am interested in providing extra help to the PAC team and Legal team to update the ToS and policies on those.
Answer two -
Tiffany G OK this is a follow-up to the last question – people think we host child porn content and such things. This issue is actually closely related to the incident when our service is banned in my home country. It might also be helpful to clarify that to the public. I am not an expert but look forward to discussing it more with respective committees.
Answer three -
Tiffany G Well, this is really hard to explain in a few sentences. I think it is going to be different for every work. So more clarification will be helpful and enough, given the fact that most people will not have time to read through everything in ToS.
Answer four -
Tiffany G 1. a) I support 100% “maximum inclusiveness of content”, yet there is always a boundary to everything. Since OTW is already an influential org, we need to protect our image and hold a better image to the public. I want the public to think of us as an inclusive and socially responsible community. So in general, we have to do something to change. Things like making the rating system more specific and obvious to users will be what I want to do. 2. b) Not really restricting the content being posted. I hope it is like more warnings and ratings for posting work so people know what to expect. And all of these are not surprising to people who do not wish to see this.
Question and answer five -
Sveritas Thank you for your answers! We do have two more related follow ups for Tiffany G. on the topic of content on AO3: 1. a) please does your definition of content that should be disallowed include all written content depicting sexual content of minors? 2. b) please clarify how you propose we treat the content we currently have in the archive that should be banned with those proposed TOS changes
Tiffany G 1. a) That is not what I proposed actually. I would want to be more specific in the rating system and clarifications so people know what to expect. 2. b) If there are changes, it is going to be some slower work I suspect. Will work with PAC to figure out if changes are necessary.
Question and answer six -
Audience Member I’m very curious what Tiffany considers a “better image” that the OTW should present to the public. As in, what part of our image is unsuitable.
Tiffany G As I have mentioned before, AO3 is no longer accessible in my home country due to some incident related to a piece of pedophilic work that is posted at AO3. This makes users very difficult to read and write with AO3. When I was reading the comments about the incident, a lot of people seemed to have a negative opinion about us. So, I think there is at least something we can do to help build a better image for us in my home country.
#ao3#i wasn't going to post but it seems that there's been a lot of misunderstanding mainly due to people not reading the interview#archive of our own#otw elections

We've read SamBucky meets Young Bucky and SamBucky meets Young Sam, now imagine Young Sam meets Young Bucky, that'll be legendary lmao
((Hey, anon! I hope this finds its way to you. I basically wrote this as crack. Hope you like it!))
***
“Buck?” Sam asked as he answered the phone. “You must be a mind reader because I was just about to call you. I have a big problem!”
“I have a big problem!”
Their same declaration surprised Sam, but Bucky’s problem couldn’t be as big as his, so he said as much, “I’m sure my problem is bigger than yours.”
“Yeah, don’t be so sure. Because I have an enormous problem.” Bucky huffed.
“Wait… Are we still talking about our problems?” Sam asked when he realized their conversation may have deviated to a very different route.
“Look, Sam, I don’t have time for this. You need to get to New York. Stat.” Bucky practically ordered, making Sam frown.
“I can’t,” Sam replied.
“What do you mean you can’t?” Bucky asked with an edge in his voice.
“I have a… house guest,” Sam replied as he turned around and looked at said guest, who was currently tied to the dining room chair. No, that’s not how Sam normally treated his guests, but this was an exception.
“A house guest? You are such a liar,” Bucky scoffed.
“You don’t have to believe me but it’s the truth.”
“Who is it?” Bucky asked.
“I can’t tell you that. You wouldn’t believe me if I did,” Sam replied and his own voice sounded nervous to him.
“Trust me, after what I’ve seen today, I’d believe in unicorns if you told me they existed,” said Bucky.
The line went quiet for a few seconds, and Sam wondered if Bucky had hung up. He had to admit; he was getting a little worried about his friend. “Bucky?”
“Fine, I’ll come to D.C. Give me a couple hours.” With that, Bucky hung up before Sam could say anything.
“Hello? Bucky?” Sam called out. “Dammit,” he mumbled under his breath.
Sam turned to his tied-up “house guest” and frowned at him. Said house guest was currently struggling in the chair. Sam walked over to the chair and slowly removed the duct tape from his mouth and the man glared at him.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?!” He yelled. “Free me right now!”
“Not until I figure out who--- what you are,” Sam replied.
“I am YOU!” the man replied. Well, he was more like a kid. “Isn’t that obvious?”
“How is that possible?” Sam asked, “You are clearly some kind of--- shapeshifter!”
“Shapeshifter? They don’t exist!” The kid scoffed. He then released a deep breath and said, “Look, I know this is crazy--”
“That’s an understatement”
The kid pointedly ignored him, “--BUT I think I somehow ended up in the future. I mean, look at you, you’re old.”
“Excuse you!” Sam balked.
“I mean, you’re older than me…”
“How are you so chill about this?”
“You’re freaking out enough for the both of us,” the kid replied.
***
It took Bucky a little more than a few hours to get there.
“Well, about damn ti--” Sam said, opening the door, but stopped mid-sentence when he saw Bucky wasn’t alone.
Sam’s jaw dropped open, and his eyes widened when he saw the person beside Bucky. “What the fuck?” Just like Sam, there was a younger version of Bucky standing right in front of him.
Young Bucky pushed Buck aside and got in front of him. “Hey there, doll. I’m James Buchanan Barnes, but you can me Bucky,” young Bucky introduced himself and held out his hand in front of him.
Dumbfounded, Sam took his hand and shook it, but young Bucky held his hand for a little longer than necessary, and then, much to Sam’s surprise, he kissed the top of his hand.
Behind him, Bucky let out a groan.
“Seriously? Do you flirt with everything on two legs?” Bucky asked, sounding exasperated.
“I don’t discriminate, Metal Man,” young Bucky replied
“Metal Man?” Sam raised an eyebrow
“He’s part Metal, part Man, so Metal Man,” young Bucky told him excitedly
“Wow, you really gave that a lot of thought,” Sam said sarcastically.
“Ha! I like y--” young Bucky stopped mid-sentence and his eyes widened almost comically like a cartoon character. “Whoa,” he blinked at something behind Sam, and then, much to Sam’s surprise, he hip-checked him out of the way and invited himself into his apartment.
Sam turned around to find young Bucky carefully approaching young Sam.
“I think I’m in love,” he announced.
“What is happening?” Bucky asked. “Is that--”
“Yep, that’s the younger version of me,” Sam replied, looking at the kid in his military uniform.
“Shit… what is happening here?” Bucky asked again. “Where did they come from?”
“Hell if I know,” Sam replied.
Young Bucky was now on one knee in front of young Sam and staring up at him.
Sam could only see his younger self, who was staring back at young Bucky like he had hung the moon for him. And he suddenly seemed to have forgotten that he was tied to a chair.
“Hi,” young Sam whispered.
“Hi,” young Bucky replied. “I’m James Buchanan Barnes, but you can call me Bucky." He introduced himself but this time there wasn’t any flirtatiousness in his voice.
“I’m Samuel Thomas Wilson, but you can call me Sam.”
“Sam,” young Bucky repeated the name like he was testing it out. “You’re beautiful, Sam.”
Young Sam shyly looked down and bit down on his lips. “You’re not too bad-looking yourself,” he said.
“Sweetheart, do you have a dame or a fella in your life?” He asked.
“Dame or fella?” Sam whispered to Bucky, who just stood there stoic, not saying a word.
“No, I’m single,” young Sam replied. “I mean, this one guy just asked me out, but I was plucked from my timeline and thrown here before I could go on said date.”
“Well, I thank whatever god is out there for that,” said young Bucky. “I would have been really heartbroken if you were taken.”
“Why?” young Sam asked and bit down on his bottom lip.
“Because I think I may be in love with you.”
“What?!” Sam screeched
“Excuse me?!” Bucky asked at the same time.
Both Sam and Bucky looked at each other and rolled their eyes before turning back to the two young versions of themselves.
“I think I might reciprocate those feelings,” young Sam replied, much to Sam’s surprise. He doesn’t remember being this naïve and a complete dumbass.
“Great, they’re in love,” Buck grumbled beside him.
“They’re not in love… they’re just dumb kids,” Sam huffed.
“Which asshole tied you up like this?” Young Bucky asked as he untied Sam
“Him,” young Sam nodded towards Sam.
Young Bucky turned around and glared at him. “How dare you tie up the love of my life?”
“The love of your life?” Sam almost choked.
“Yes, Sam here is the one I have been looking for my whole life.” Bucky took young Sam’s hands as he stood up from the chair and the two of them stared at each other with love and awe. And then they were kissing...
Sam wasn’t sure which one of them initiated the kiss, but soon they were all over each other, kissing like they were two drowning men, holding onto each other for dear life.
“And now they’re kissing,” Bucky commented beside him.
“Wow, thanks for the commentary, Buck. I, of course, can’t see for myself that they’re kissing,” Sam scoffed.
“What do we do about them?” Bucky asked, clearing his throat.
The longer they kissed, the more awkward Sam felt, standing next to his best friend, who he most definitely didn’t want to kiss.
The two kids pulled apart from the kiss, but stayed close to each other and giggled like a couple of schoolgirls. They were whispering something to each other that Sam couldn’t hear.
“Have you ever thought about--” Sam didn’t finish his thought.
“About kissing you?” Bucky finished it for him. “Yes, I have.”
“Then why didn’t you?” Sam asked.
“Didn’t want you to kick my ass,” Bucky replied.
That made Sam chuckle. “I wouldn’t have kicked your ass. Not for that, anyway.”
Soon Bucky’s metal hand found its way to Sam’s, and he took it and intertwined their fingers.
Young Bucky and young Sam were kissing again and Sam suddenly had the urge to kiss his own Bucky. Their young versions soon pulled away and took each other’s hands before coming over to Sam and Bucky.
“We have decided that Sam is coming with me back to my timeline,” young Bucky informed them.
“Uh no, he’s not,” Sam replied. “You don’t exactly come from a tolerant time.”
“I have to agree with Sam,” Bucky chimed in.
“Fine! Then Bucky is coming with me,” young Sam huffed.
“He can’t,” Bucky told him. “He’s not from this universe.”
“What?!” Sam asked.
“He comes from a universe where Peggy Carter became the Captain, not Steve.”
“What the hell?” Sam blinked at young Bucky. A person from a whole other universe. That was crazier than his younger self coming here from the past.
“Wait, you’re friends with Captain America? You’re that Bucky Barnes?!” Young Sam asked, surprised.
“No, that’s him,” Sam said, pointing at his Bucky.
Young Sam completely ignored him and grinned at Bucky. “That’s the coolest thing ever. My boyfriend is a famous historical figure.”
“Your boyfriend?” Bucky, Sam’s Bucky, choked.
And then young Sam and young Bucky were kissing again.
“Wait till he finds out that you’re Captain America,” Bucky chuckled.
Sam glared at him in return. “We’re not telling them anything. We don’t know what the repercussions will be!”
Young Sam and young Bucky were so lost in each other that they didn’t even hear Sam and Bucky talking about them. The young ones finally pulled apart to catch a breath.
“I’m not going anywhere without him,” young Sam adamantly told him and took young Bucky’s hand again.
“I’m not going anywhere without him either,” added young Bucky. “I believe I was sent here to meet the love of my life.”
“He is not the love of your life,” Sam sighed. “You’re kids. How old are you again?”
“I’m 20!” Young Bucky replied.
“I’m 18,” said young Sam. “We’re not kids.”
“Metal Man and Not Sam--”
“Hey! I am Sam.” Sam glared at him.
Young Bucky smirked “Metal Man and Not Sam, you are going to figure out how to keep us together.”
“What?” Bucky and Sam asked at the same time.
“You’re gonna figure out a way to keep us together because if you don’t then we’ll just stay here and mess up your timeline,” young Sam added.
“This is a nightmare. This cannot be real,” Sam said, horrified.

For this tutorial you will need:
Some basic gif-making knowledge (see my last tutorial!)
I’ll be using CC 2017 to do this, but as long as you have the timeline option, this will work for you! 🥰
So, in a sort of part two to my other gif tutorial, (https://luke-patterson.tumblr.com/post/636980573506813952/) this is a slightly more advanced part of gif-making. But I promise it’s easy when you know how!
Assuming you followed the last one, you’ll already know how to make your gifs into a smart object, so we’ll start there!
PART ONE: BLENDING
Drag both of your gifs into the same file. For this to work, your gifs have to be the same number of frames, or at least cropped to the same length in the timeline window, otherwise one will loop before the other, and it will mess up the loop of the gif. (For when we get to the multiple gif part, I recommend having between 60-80 frames, so it stays under tumblr’s 10 MB limit.) As this tutorial uses smart layers, they can both be sharpened as well.
(I made this gif 540 px by 268 px, because I’m going to add more to it later. But we’ll cover that further down in part two!)
Honestly, I find it so much easier to put my colouring on top of both/all the gifs, and then clip individual layers down onto a specific gif, if that one needs more of its own colouring. That way, the extra layers don’t interfere with the other gif(s). It’s so much less confusing visually for me than having lots of groups with their own colourings, and it makes moving the gifs around simpler.
Position them side by side, one on top of the other. Obviously, you can play around with the positioning: this may be easier to do once they are blended, especially as some gifs may be smaller and you need to try them in different places. For example, this is a screenshot of a Lyra/Will set I made in the past, with three blended gifs of different sizes:
Add a layer mask to both of your gifs. You might not need to edit both, but I usually do, as I like to balance how much one gif blends into another! Using the brush tool (set to black, when you’ve clicked on the layer mask), we want the brush to be very big, and very soft.
The bigger the brush, the more seamless the blending will be! By painting parts of the top gif away, the other gif will start to appear underneath. It’s not always necessary, but I usually like to set my top gif to ‘screen’ as well. This helps the gifs merge into one another even more, especially if you have one gif which is darker than the other!
As you can see, by setting it to screen, the top gif has already started to look blended. Then, you can start to paint. As the brush is so big, you might end up painting away too much of the gifs, like so:
I usually go back and forth, switching between black to remove parts of the gif, and white to add it back (always painting on the layer masks). Sometimes, you might need to make the brush slightly smaller, just to fill in tiny gaps.
Another thing you can do is to add a solid black colour underneath all your gifs, just to fill in any spaces. (Sometimes, I do this on top of gifs too, to create spaces where I want blended gifs to go, like in my current header!):
Anyway, back to the original gif. My blended gif is now pretty much how I want it to be, except Lyra is quite far to the left, and Will is taking up a lot of the screen:
So I’m going to see how they look at the start of the gif, to determine how far right I need to move them both to get them mostly in the middle:
And that’s it! Now you can export them [file > export > save for web (legacy)] and you’ll have to change the timing back to 0.05, or use the action I introduced to do this in my last tutorial.
PART TWO: MULTIPLE GIFS
To put more gifs underneath this one I’ve made, I expanded my canvas. Go to image > canvas size. Make sure you click the little ball to the top in the anchor section, so the canvas expands underneath your gif. If you leave it in the centre, it will simply expand from the middle, or the left, right, etc.
Next, we need to remove the black line at the bottom of the gif.
You want to select the space for cropping using the rectangular marquee tool, so in this case, 540 px by 268 px. The tumblr spacing is 4px between each gif in a set, so however many gifs you want, you have to account for 4px less pixels inside your one gif, to give the illusion there are multiple (unless you want them to touch).
For example, (there’s a little maths here: forgive me!) two gifs of equal size, placed side by side, must be 268px in width or length, because (268 x 2) + 4 = 540. (There is one 4px gap in between). For four gifs, it would be (132 x 4) + 12 = 540. (For the three, 4px gaps). For three gifs of equal size, it’s a bit different. These must be 177px, 178px, and 177px, to ensure there is 8px of space left over (two gaps).
Then, make sure the colour white is the primary colour selected on the paint pad (this is vital) and (in this case), the layer mask from before when we blended, is selected. Press ctrl (command on mac), shift, and i to invert your highlighted area (or select > inverse) and then simply delete the excess line, (either using the delete button on windows, or fn + delete on mac, I think!) Then, do this again for the other gif.
And voilà! It’s gone. You can also paint it out (using the black colour as the primary colour to erase), but I would still recommend highlighting the outline of the area you want to erase, using the marquee tool, so that you can paint it out in a straight line, and don’t paint into your gif and erase parts of that by accident.
Now to add in the other gifs! To do this, I use guides, but you can also use lines at a size of 4px, to map out the spaces in between gifs. If you go with lines, just make sure you delete the shapes after. With guides, they are not actually ‘in’ your gif, so you don’t have to remove them before you save. However, guides only work for straight lines, so gifs with other shapes will need to be made using lines, (but I will touch on that at the end!)
I actually have a few psds saved with guides already on, so that I don’t have to draw them out every time. If I was making a set with three gifs in a row, this would be different, but I usually stick to two or four (or three with one big square/rectangle, and two little squares), so this is my most used psd. The guides are set at: 132 px & 136 px, 268 px & 272 px, and 404 px & 408 px, both horizontally and vertically!
I have a red colour underneath just because I find it easier to see the lines between gifs this way - if you do the same, just remember to turn it off before you save your gif, otherwise it will have the colour red instead of mimicking the transparency between gifs.
Now, make a second gif! I decided to have a square in the middle as you can see in the title, and then two rectangles either side.
Then you want to resize it, in this case to 268 px by 268 px, and drag it across into your main file, or go to layer > duplicate layer, and move it that way. Don’t worry, when you move it, it will show the whole gif as if you haven’t cropped it. The reason I crop and resize it beforehand, is so that I can ensure it will be the correct size when I remove the excess parts of the gifs I don’t want, (rather than making it 268px including the black line for example, which would be wrong.)
Then, as before, position the gif where you want it to go, and highlight the area you want to be in the gif. Whilst this is selected, (again ensure white is the primary colour on your paint pad), click the layer mask:
Then the excess around the gif should be gone! (Making a gif of a gif tutorial... meta, lmao.) This way, if you decide you want to change the shape of the gif, or move it slightly, you can just paint parts in and out, or delete the layer mask, move the gif, and reapply it!
You can then sharpen and adjust your colouring to the gif as needed! Next, go ahead and repeat this process for your other gifs. Selecting the area, adding a mask, and sharpening. By the end, you should have something that looks like this:
PART THREE: OTHER SHAPES
If you want to use other shapes (which I haven’t tried myself until now, but I can talk you through some thoughts!) You can use the line tool. So, for example you could make a layer with the lines at 4px, merge it, and then at the end delete it from your gif to leave the gaps transparent:
To make a gif any shape you want, choose a shape (either use the shape tool, or get a png of it), and using a clipping mask. Make sure your gif is above the shape layer, then right-click the gif layer, and select create clipping mask to clip it down:
OR you could use a circle, and then delete the circle to make it look transparent:
The best way to select items which are not rectangular, (so you can’t use the marquee tool), is to use the pen tool. Click around your gif so that it’s got a border of what you want selected. Once you have outlined your gif, right-click and choose make selection:
Then set the feather radius to 0, and then the area you want should be highlighted in the same way as with the marquee tool above, so you can add a layer mask, etc. However, as the pen tool is not always that accurate, there is a little white gap here where it’s not a perfect circle.
A way to overcome this could be to make all the gifs you want, and then simply add one on top with a white 4px border, so it gives the illusion of being transparent! (As I have done above, but save it as white rather than red!)
If I find a better way to do this in the future, I will update this tutorial. I hope this is helpful, and thank you for reading 🥰💖

Caught in My Chest 2/2
Marinette looked around her classroom taking her seat in the back and no one even gave her a second glance except Adrien.
"Marinette, since you missed so much class I can help you after school today if you feel up for it," Lila said sweetly before fake wincing. "Or maybe not my port has been acting up lately," Lila said crocodile tears coming to her eyes.
"Port?" Marinette asked and Alya glared at her from the front of the classroom. "Wouldn't that mean you have..." Marinette started holding her right arm where her piccline was.
"Go on Marinette ask her!" Alya yelled holding Lila close.
"But that's, I just..." Marinette started. "I was just discharged from the hospital with Hodgkin's Lymphoma," Marinette finally said and all faces turned toward her.
Never before had Marinette seen the class so mad at her all because of a lie. How Lila had gotten a hold of this information was unexplainable but the fact that she would turn it around was unspeakable. "I can't believe you would say you have cancer just to try and show up Lila Marinette! You know she was recently diagnosed!" Marinette's breath was caught in her chest and she felt like she could never breathe again. Adrien stood up red faced and shaking.
"You're all idiots! Lila has been playing you since day one and the only reason why I haven't said anything is because I didn't have any proof," Adrien said and Marinette looked at her former crush in shock. "If any of you even bothered to do some research you'd know what a monster she is." Lila looked at Adrien angrily.
"What do you mean proof?" Lila asked trying to keep up her hurt persona.
"Medical records," Adrien said slapping them down on the table. "Also the fact that Marinette here has been in a healthy relationship with Damian Wayne for almost a year now and the fact that he is paying for her treatment and housing her after you turned her parents against her is another factor." Lila's face started to turn red.
"You have no right to go through my documents," Lila said picking up the files.
"I mean if there were any there, your bill of health has been clean for years Lila, Marinette's on the other hand not so much," Adrien said. "That's all I needed to say, we can wait and do more have later when Damian gets here but I can't say he'll be as nice about it. Marinette is the only family I have left and I'm not going to let you drag her through the grass anymore," Adrien added going to sit in the back of the classroom next to his friend.
"You didn't have to do that," Marinette said leaning on his shoulder. "But I appreciate it kitten," Marinette said winking and Adrien knew he was busted.
"I'll always be here for you M'lady," Adrien said and class started without delay.
Lunch rolled around and everyone was conflicted, Lila had lied to them about a deadly illness about so much, and Marinette, who they treated like garbage, was the one who was really sick. A large sigh could be heard from the door and two boys with black hair stood in the doorway one pushed sunglasses to the top of his head smiling and the other's face was stone cold.
"Alright, students of Francois Dupont, my name is Dick Grayson and today we're going to be talking about some certain behaviors of slander toward our name," Dick started and the whole lunchroom froze. "Recently we have heard from a patient of our program to help cancer patients around the world that there has been some issues, we are here to clear that up." Students suddenly noticed that he was reading from a screen on his wrist. "I sound like a robot," Dick whispered to Damian who rolled his eyes.
"Furthermore, patient 13078, Marinette Dupain-Cheng of the Wayne Foundation clinic was taken under our care at time 4:37 on March 30, 2021, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and moved to urgent care on April 2, 2021, after a biopsy on the first of April, 180 days of treatment are being provided and paid for in full. Lila Rossi who is not a patient of the Wayne foundation clinic has been seen harassing the patient which can cause stress levels to increase and therefore panic attacks which lead to trouble breathing and a shutting down of her lungs or windpipe in general if Miss. Rossi does not comply with our orders or removal from the school and distance from Miss. Dupain-Cheng, then we will be forced to take more forceful action..." Dick continued.
"Is this really necessary? Just stop messing with my girlfriend and apologize you assholes," Damian said and Dick sighed putting his arm down.
"Marinette, we know that things will never be the same but we're here to fight this with you," Alya said and Marinette felt tears well up in her eyes. Even if these people had been nothing but cruel to her she still wanted their support.
"We'll help you in any way we can dudette," Nino said wrapping an arm around her shoulder.
"That really means a lot guys but I need time to get over this with people who are truly going to be at my side, I'll appreciate everything you do though," Marinette said getting up and walking over to Damian with Adrien following close behind.
"You did what you thought was right beloved," Damian said and Marinette just smiled sadly. Damian looked over her head at Adrien who stared right back. "I think I know someone who might be able to make us all feel a little happier during this time, I'll see what I can do," Damian said leaving the superhero duo together to call a friend who could certainly bring the sunshine into Marinette's life again.
"A lot is about to change kitty," Marinette said holding the blond's hand watching Damian talk on the phone.
"180 days of fun M'lady," Adrien responded and suddenly a boy landed next to Damian and ran over to Marinette.
"Ready to kick some ass future Mrs. Wayne?" the boy asked and Marinette just chuckled blushing. She could already feel the weight being lifted off her shoulders.
The first few weeks were hard, she had to work to stay awake and study, keeping up with others was becoming a challenge.
The second month was painful but then again there was poison in her body constantly being flushed in and out.
The third month, radiation started, she was scared but she knew it had to be done.
Month four, she was almost done they said maybe even healed soon.
Once they had the caner isolated, she just had to have that laser there and then, hopefully, it would all be over.
Marinette had 180 days of meeting Damian's self-proclaimed best friend Jon by her side being whatever he needed her to be, she had the best partner she could ask for who was there to talk to her whenever she was scared, and she had Damian, her rock in the ocean.
When Marinette went into the doctors office and read off her paperwork, tears flooded her eyes as she bit her lip trying to contain her smile.
She was cured. Sixteen years old and she fought cancer and won.
She walked into school looking at the anxious faces of her peers.
"I've wanted to tell you something that I've known since the beginning of treatment, I'm moving to America after this was over, there's something about being here that makes me feel tied down. I did it, I fought and won a war far bigger than myself but somehow there's still something that I feel like I need to do or say, like there's something caught in my chest," Marinette said smiling sadly. "Lila never said anything, and that's what stings the most but I know I leave you guys as better people and you'll never make the same mistakes again, I want you to know I forgive you, every one of you." Marinette looked over her classmates one last time eyeing their expressions of tear-filled faces. "I have a flight to catch, bug out," Marinette said taking Damian's hand and walking past Jon and Adrien at the door and out of the school.
For the first time in a long time, Marinette felt her heart flutter as she took a deep breath and got on the plane.
a/n: This was such a hard story to write for me and I'm so happy to anyone who is reading and hope you enjoyed this experience. It has actual factual information in it and maybe you might have even learned something which would be cool huh? I hope to end up like Marinette in the next 163 days. thank you for reading
