Will is such an insane character. I mean, he really was testing out his potential new mate. By sending him to kill Hannibal, he couldn't know if he'd manage (the only reason he didn't succeed was due to gloating), but he was certainly curious if this dude who shows up offering devotion was truly all that. Guess he wasn't. I wonder if Matthew did succeed, what would Will do next? I mean, he would've tied himself to the guy in a way that would be difficult to sever himself from. I think it's a very intriguing concept to explore, specially in fics (canon divergence where Matthew actually kills Hannibal or sends him into a coma.
