Disclaimer: this is all my @awkwardlysarah head canons not my sister’s @queertwilight. I decided to combine my love for K-pop with my sister’s love for twilight. My qualifications are that I’ve been listening to K-pop for 6 years, so I kinda know a lot. Also no hate to any of the artists mentioned, you can have your own opinions and I’ll have mine. Silly little post enjoy!

Edward:

-exclusively listens to K-drama OST’s

-mainly for the instrumental and piano

-listens to the Best KDRAMA OST: of all time playlist and ranks them by instrumental

-secretly does watch K-dramas but claims its to help “appreciate” the music, has cried to almost every drama he’s seen

-Does not understand the appeal of K-Pop groups, prefers what he believes to be the classics

-Though, Alice once showed him RM’s album Mono and is now his biggest fan

-“No, you don’t understand guys if I met Namjoon we would get along perfectly. We could go on a museum date together and talk about life.”

-Loves RM’s newest release Indigo and locked himself in his room to reflect on the lyrics in the album.

-He too, mourns the loss (of what would have been) his 20’s

Rosalie:

-she is such a baddie with her K-pop taste

-mainly a 2nd gen girl group stan, but dips her toes in 4th gen (mainly AESPA) because Emmett showed her a couple groups

-also loves soloists-mainly IU and BIBI and DPR

-BIGGEST 2NE1 and 4minute stan there is (prays on YG and Cube’s downfall)

-if the songs are about being bad bitches then Rosalie is listening to them

-she can low key body any rap by CL

-has her more mellow moments when listening to Girl’s Generation and IU

-overall supports her girlies

-will fight trolls online that try to discredit any of the girls’ careers (

-has made multiple accounts deactivate because she proved them so wrong they could not show their faces online again

Emmett:

-OH BOY

-when Emmett discovered K-pop it was like opening up a portal that could no longer be closed

-he had casually stanned 3rd gen groups (since Alice listened to them)

-but then he found LOONA and other girl groups

-Rosalie low key curses this day btw

-became the biggest Orbit and Chuu stan

-“Emmett we have to go save Bella, she’s in danger.”

“Idk, maybe if she stanned LOONA this wouldn’t have happened.”

-is a photo card collector (Rosalie put a stop to this after he spent 3K on a Chuu broadcast photo card and getting scammed trying to buy other pcs)

-when I tell you he was so devastated that Chuu was kicked out of LOONA

-he didn’t have the strength to go hunting for DAYS

-helped boycott BlockBerry Creative #freeLOONA

-he does also dabble in boy groups; mainly Enhypen because he thinks they are actual vampires. (No one tell him it is just a concept it would break his heart, he streamed Bite Me for days because he felt SO seen).

Alice:

-MY MULTISTAN QUEEN!!!

-she knows everything about every group (obvi) and knows which groups are unproblematic

-runs an undercover KPOPpredictions twitter account where all her visions go

-Loves groups mainly for lore/storyline purposes

-like TXT, BTS, ENHYPEN, ATEEZ, EXO, etc. she LOVES a good storyline

-does theories on her main stan blogs about what she believes the MVs mean for the overall story

-always has people commenting on her theories about how right she is.

-is also a K-pop dance/lifestlye influencer

-give her 10 minutes and she WILL know the entire dance-will upload and edit it almost instantly

-has been featured in KCON dream stages and has been able to dance alongside some of her fav groups

-love planning her outfits for concerts and giving people inspiration on her social media platforms

“You need help coming up with vampire themed outfits for Enhypen’s upcoming concert, say no more I’ve got just the looks for you!”

Jasper:

-some of y’all may be a bit mad about this one…

-he’s the problematic K-pop stan

-like his playlist is CONTROVERSIAL

-liked sticker when it first released (believed the flute is what tied it together)

-low key a Jay Park stan on main

-…and a super junior apologist

(what did you expect he literally was a confederate solider)

-If a group has a cowboy concept he will be all over it tho, “takes me back to my roots.”

-will start shit online because he knows in the end he can control their emotions

-loves those unpopular k-pop opinion videos

-Alice does try to get him away from the problematic side of K-pop and it does kinda work, but like quitting human blood it takes him some time

-not a big stan, he’s kinda in it for the drama and to be an instigator

My kpop trash bin life journey

I am not lying to anyone, there was a big period of my life where I was deep into kpop. I would even call it unhealthy, but I want to share it. Though, in all honesty I hope no one was like me.

My journey started all the way back to 2011, my very first kpop group was big bang. My mother was actually the one who introduced it to me saying that I should listen to kpop. I think she just wanted to talk about it with someone though… Anyway, the first kpop song for me was Haru Haru by Big Bang. That pineapple lives in my memory very vividly to this day.

Since my first song was from Big Bang you would think they would be my first group, right? Wrong, I was so over my head for Girl’s Day, Apink, Girl’s Generation, and Cnblue. It became around this time that I started to get more interested in Korean variety shows as well as the culture in general. I started watching shows like Running Man, Infinity Challenge, We Got Married, and so on. I would say I was pretty healthy during this time too; I didn’t obsess over any of these idols either. I’m pretty sure I followed other groups I can’t remember right now too.

Another 2 years go by and now it’s 2013, my mom discovers BTS, she falls in love, but so do I. I find them to be pretty interesting. Still, I prefer the groups I had previously mentioned a little bit more. I started to become interested in Exo and I rekindled that Big Bang flame too. Then flash forward to 2015, the start of my madness.

In 2015, I would fall in love with Seventeen, Twice, and the SM Rookies (NCT before they became NCT). This was when I learned more about fan culture among the kpop community. Before this year, I never thought I would want to order any albums because it just wasn’t a thing back then for people living overseas. What I mean by that, was how it wasn’t as easily accessible as it is now. Despite wanting albums, I was doing alright, or so I thought.

2016 came rolling in and I felt the need to support every group I followed, and I will list them all out for you below:

I’m not lying I felt like I needed to support everyone, and I did very successfully just that. I wrote down when each of their comebacks would come out, I followed their socials and so on. If there was anything any of these idols had been you bet, I was going to be watching them. Now, if you’re wondering about my life, don’t worry. At this point I was in school, and I never slacked when it came to grades. So, no one in my family said anything.

I lived this life all the way up till 2018, which is not healthy. I love kpop, but by the middle of 2017 I felt like I needed to support them. BTW I had added more groups to this list as well. Going back to the feeling of needing to support them, it was unhealthy. I was obsessed, I was a dumpster of kpop and nothing more. I didn't think that way though. I was like, I’m so happy I know so much about kpop. I know everything that’s going on at the moment in the kpop world.

Of course, my health wasn’t that way. I spent several hours watching kpop, even if there weren’t any subtitles. I even bought products they endorsed. I even went to kcon which wasn’t all that exciting as I expected it to be. The only thing I don’t regret was the concerts. I felt that if I didn’t support them in this way, I didn’t have the worthiness to call myself a fan. Which is not true in any way. Now what was so wrong with this life? Well, I didn’t pay attention to myself. I realized my whole personality and life was centered around kpop and not who I was as a person. Let that sink in for a moment.

I had to take one good look in the mirror and see who I was. I was someone who knew more about kpop than their own self. Now, I’m not blaming kpop, I have only myself to blame. I should have paid more attention to myself. I know that now and I don’t get carried away like I used to. Now, I dress up, go out and I know who I am. It took me two years of limiting my kpop intake. Man, I sound like I had an addiction.

So where am I now?

I watch kpop, but I’m nowhere near as invested as I was back then. I still have my groups like Astro, Twice, and SF9, but I’m satisfied. I don’t feel the need to watch everything they do, nor do I feel the need to do anything I was like before. I think those three groups are the only ones I constantly check up on.

What I’m trying to say is don’t make the same mistake I did. Don’t feel like you need to watch everything your fave is in. Also, I used to be one of those people who wouldn’t listen to mainstream pop because I was like “ew gross” which is totally not true. I see some people like that these days and I think you need to understand everyone has their own music tastes.

In the end, you don’t breathe and live for your idol. Don’t spend hours upon hours watching content on kpop. Take a look at yourself and see who you know more about, a kpop idol or yourself. If kpop is the one thing that makes you happy, please find something else. I trust you that it’s going to make your life a lot better. Well, that’s all I have to say and I hope those of you who made it this far found this interesting to gaze upon.

ahh you flatter me, doubt I have the talent to become a video editor. But there’s a youtuber (shaky raindrop, not me btw) who already analyzed three of the members dancing (really interesting I recommend watching) but I always analyze other members dancing technique just for fun (I’m not a specialist, like I mentioned). Knees will always be problematic, it’s one of the biggest reason why dancers retire. I don’t blame Mark. Knees have a limit of things they can handle. 1/4

Oh god, the cherry bomb fall was sooo painful to watch. I still don’t understand how the choreographers/sm let the members do that, they could’ve had long time damages (TY complained a lot), if you compare the technique of Hae to ty, hae did it so much safer, lowering his feet behind his back so he doesn’t plop where else ty just goes straight down and slams his back. 2/4

Honestly all the other members do it so much more safer/gentle compared to TY, maybe bc he’s in the center he wants to go all out. But he really doesn’t have too. Another painful thing to watch was during (kcon la I think) where ty jumped (he was so high in the air) and he jumped straight on his knees. The amount of pain I got in my knees watching him do that, ugh whoever let him do that, should’ve gotten fired and sued. 3/4

Tae could have damaged his knees permanently and he wasn’t even wearing knee protectors. Watching the members in the rain is the best way to see their technique and how they store their balance/strength. Because of the hard circumstances but also dance practices are good too watch. You got a good eye on that one! Taeil tends to half-ass choreos when it’s during high speed/roller coaster ver, secret genius right there. 4/4

If video-editing is too hard, another variant is making a twitter acc with gifs of the discussed moments. You would attract other people who are interested in difference in dance style and be able to exchange opinions with them.

I know Shaky raindrop, I’ve seen the videos.

Doyoung practically flops on the floor too in Cherry Bomb routine. Tae rarely takes care of himself. He dances through pain and comes up with dangerous tricks himself (like Mark stepping on his knee in Kick It is Tae’s idea). And I don’t think he will change anytime soon. He finds his worth in performing.

What can you tell about Do’s place of balance? He moves strangely with a kind of spring in his step. Reminds me a balroom dancer, who glides above the floor.

What’s really nice to look at is how smoothly 127 changes positions, Do actually is very good with it, he often has to go between two members to get to the back after his solo part, always precize in the length of his steps.

Bts paved the way for kpop idc what anyone says no one cared about kpop until BTS

I beg to differ, maybe for the late 2010′s and performing at award shows but not for kpop as a whole. However, this is always going to be a topic that always going to be two sided. And I full on respect your opinion, because I can see where its coming from. 

I’ve always felt like kpop was just a sub genre like a lot of other music, while its not mainstream and US artist will always have the upperhand in their home country kpop has a large enough following in the US, its just like that time were J-rock and J-pop was huge… btw does anyone remember Puffy AmiYumi?

I think the reason as to why it really looks like they were the ones who paved the way for kpop is because of the social media and fandom culture we have now, from 2005-2014 social media culture wasn’t like what it is today, I’m not even talking about fan interaction either, because I feel like there was way more fan interaction on twitter from the B.A.P members. 

Lets see the timeline of kpop/korean artist making headlines in America 

2005

Rain made headlines for being the first ever Korean artist to perform outside of Asia. He was also the first Korean artist to perform in the US, and let alone do a 2 hour concert. It’s one of the biggest Korean concert that was held in NYC. It even featured Pi Diddy, Omarion, and JoJo Levesque. This was the initial foot print that the hallyu wave had outside of Asia 

2006

Rain made headlines for because Time magazine listed him as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, to that Stephen Colbert invited him on his show and they did a parody of Way to Avoid the sun. 

The year that MTV made a special channel on American TV soley for kpop called MTVk

2007

Rain also again gained more american attention for being listed in People’s most beautiful people in the world

Bi Rain and Joon Park both were in Speed Racer, that was a big achievement for Korean Singers… just simply being able to graze the big screen. Rain more so than Joon got a good amount of attention, he even got some American interviews 

2009

Rain and Lee Joon were in Ninja Assassin. Rain made major headlines for again not only being in an American movie but this time actually staring in the movie and about how much training he did just for the movie. 

This was also the same year Korean actor Lee Byun hyun had his US debut 

GD at the time also got some attention after the alleged plagiarism between Heartbreaker and Right Round when Flo Rida performed with him

Wonder Girls made their American debut 

Wonder Girls were the opening act for the Jonas Brothers making the Jonas brothers one of the first American artist to work with a kpop group

BoA’s eat you up was released and played everywhere 

2010

Rain again made American attention by not only being nominated for an American award show but also winning MTV’s Movie Awards Biggest Badass Star beating Angelina Jolie, Chris Pine, Channing Tatum, and Sam Worthington 

Will.I.Am started to work with 2ne1 

2011

Bigbang gain global attention and celebrity clout after being the first kpop group nominated, attending and winning Best Global act at the MTV EMA’s beating Britney Spears in the process 

2012

Fantastic Baby went viral, reaction videos were popping up left and right. Fantastic Baby even played in some stores and I believe some radio stations 

Fantastic Baby was featured Glee 

SNSD had their American debut 

Wonder Girls made a American movie and JYP was featured in it (i know.. its cheesy)

This is the year of B.A.P’s debut where their debut album made it into the the World Album Chart at number 10 which was extremely rare at the time considering they didn’t even have a kpop section yet. 

Bigbang was on the Grammy’s front page twice 

Bigbang’s Alive world tour was the only full on sold out Kpop concert at the time, selling out not only in NA but SA and Europe, and were forced to add extra dates because the demand was extremely high, not to mention celebrities were showing up left and right to their tour stops 

This year was also Psy’s year which did bring attention to kpop and YG ent… regardless if Gangnam Style is a joke or not

I would go more into detail by just tweeting about kpop but thats too much work to look for, kpop is a fad and it comes and goes. I kind of like what Hyukoh said about the whole Hallyu Wave/BTS thing they said “I think it’s really interesting and it’s fun to watch. Because of it, I think in some aspects were are benefitting from it, that’s really great. But nothing is forever, there will be some point when K-pop won’t be as popular. But because we’re not K-pop, I hope we stay popular even when K-pop is not.“

BTS did not start the hallyu wave, nor did they pave they way. They were just the first to walk on that new path which then inspired more to do the same and they were the first to win fandom based awards.

No matter what this will always be a topic is where some OG and new kpop fans clash, so yes, BTS is helping the Hallyu wave but they didn’t create the fad. I think the real Hallyu wave starter is Rain

KCON LA 2019 was wild! I meet so many new people, got very little sleep from camping out for 2 shows, and was constantly in pain from standing all day waiting in lines. But, I got to see and support some of my favorite people in the world! My favorite interactions this trip is when my ult (most fave member) San from ATEEZ smiled at me for supporting him, really loudly I might add, my 2nd favorite member Yeosang waving and giving me a thumbs up after the first concert was over, Cha Hun from the band N.Flying thanking me and giving me a heart when I told him I love his YouTube channel 2IDIOTS (everyone subscribe to that btw it’s hilarious nxnxn), and Mingyu from Seventeen doing a cute head tilt into my camera! 😇💕 This trip was crazy long, but it was so much fun! Universe Challenge Day 10: Pentaversary

Dear Pentagon,

I probably should have made a graphic or something but instead I'm doing a sappy letter a day late. Most of my followers kind of know my pentagon story but if I ever meet you guys (again) I want you to know how much you've made an impact on my life. I first found out about PTG because of 365 So Fresh. Everyone was saying the MV was "so controversial". 365 So Fresh was amazing and I found out about Hui and Edawn whom I fell in love with instantly. When I googled Triple H (which as you can imagine is weird for a WWE fan like myself) I found that Hui and Dawnie were part of PTG. Not long after I found Shine and I can't remember how exactly but I think it might have been randomly recommended in YouTube. When I watched it I thought the song was absolutely amazing and it instantly became one of my fave songs. I was watching it over and over and showing my friends, and just screaming my head off because I loved it so much. 2018 was the year I got to go to my first KCON in New York and you guys were preforming there. That year had one of the best line ups but I swear at least once or twice an hour they were playing Shine, which made me happy. The people I went with weren't the greatest but hearing Shine all the time made me have fun. I even went to a dance workshop to try and learn the chorus dance. Then the concert came and I had never been so excited to hear a song be played live so much in my life. It was the first song you guys did and I have so many videos of me screaming while singing. After KCON I spent the next few days learning who everyone was, watching Pentagon Maker, and binge watching all of the MV's. I quickly grew to love all ten of you so much and you guys were becoming one of my fave groups quickly.

I didn't get to enjoy tentagon that much though as that August after, Edawn was kicked out. Edawn was my bias and I loved him a lot. Like so so so much (I still do btw). He was always so weird and screechy but also was affectionate and cute towards the other members. Everyone compared him to GD but I felt like Dawnie was just...Dawnie. He wasn't anyone else but himself. And hes great at what he does, be it rapping, producing, or dancing. I remember when the rumors were floating around, I just had hope that nothing would go wrong. When it was finalized and I found out that Dawnie had been kicked out I cried. I remember the day exactly. I had to get up early for a dentist appointment. My friend had sent me the article on Facebook and the tears were instant. I cried for so long and my entire heart hurt. I even called my mom to tell her how upset I was and though she didn't understand completely, she knows how important kpop is to me so she tried to comfort me as best as she could. Tentagon will always remind me of the happy times I had at KCON, about the new friends I made on Tumblr, and about helping me reignite my passion for writing and improving myself.

Thumbs up was a hard comeback for me. I didn't like anything about it at all; the styling, the theme, Paul jack, nothing. Though I'm still proud of you guys for barreling through such difficult times to put out a comeback it just made me sad. I know Dawnie wanted you guys to continue being successful but it hurt to see tentagon disbanded (but not forgotten). I always thought about Dawnie and Hui because they were so close. I would always picture Hui crying over Dawnie having to leave, move out, and maybe feeling guilty because I'm certain he knew they were dating. But Hui is a great friend and I know that he's happy for them and Dawnie is happy for all his brothers as well.

It used to hurt hearing 'Tentastic' but now it's a sweet reminder that tentagon will be forever.

Fast forward a bit and you guys announced your first world tour! I knew instantly that I wanted to go and see you perform again! I got VIP and hi touch because I couldn't live without seeing you guys up close (ok, Im being dramatic but you get the picture). I was so excited that I literally almost threw up 4 times. I didn't even know that you could throw up from excitement. I also got my very first lightstick. I don't normally like lightsticks but I felt like I definitely needed a pentagon one. The concert was so amazing and I cried so many times; seeing yuto smile, dying because the havana performance was so sexy, uptown funk being so fun, shinwon and hui's English getting better, Yeo one waving at me, and of course seeing my bias Hognseok being perfectly beautiful. It was easily in one of my top 5 favorite concerts. I was nervous to do hi touch, especially because it went by so fast. I will forever remember looking at Kino and telling him how beautiful he was (is). And him telling me thank you was like...I don't know. I fangirled a lot ok? Lol. And hongseoks smile was....😭😭😭

After that I think I finally admitted that PTG is my ult group. Through everything that we've gone through as universes and you guys as a group, we've come out stronger than ever.

I love Hui for always crying and trying your best and being such a sweet leader

I love yuto for how shy you are but so very affectionate around your brothers and how you tried very hard to be an idol so far from home. (And also that voice♥️)

I love wooseok for always screeching and being that one weird brother I never had

I love kino for your creativity and dance (and being ridiculously good looking) and giving me the best memory from the Pentagon cocnert.

I love jinho for being so sassy and as angry and short as I am. I thank you for all the hard work you put into Magazine Ho's and how beautiful they always sound.

I love yanan for trying your best and having such a sweet voice. Youre still confused on how to navigate through Korea but you have great friends to help you. Also king of shade.

I love shinwon for literally NEVER failing to make me laugh. I love you like I love mcnuggets (which is a lot).

I love Yeo one for always being so sweet and bubbly and having the cutest laugh. Your birthday celebration vlive will always be my favorite because everyone was having so much fun and being so goofy and it was all for you.

I love hongseok because you always brighten up my day. youre so gorgeous in more ways than one. Your a giant marvel nerd and it's so cute how much you love Ironman, I love that you like reading and have lots of passion. You're also a giant dork with a heart of gold.

And I love dawnie and will always love dawnie. I love how weird you are, that :] face you always make, how you were never afraid of skinship, how you always held hands, kissed, and hugged everyone, how positive you always seemed to be and how freaking talented you are at everything. (Please propose to hyuna already my god we've been waiting for like a year now).

Happy three years Pentagon! I can't wait for many more to come. And happy (over) 1 year of being a universe to me!

U- 3 biggest wishes?

I’ve never really thought about this before? I’m not gonna go with like classic ones though like world peace or what not because I feel like everyone, internally at least, should wish for that. 

1: I’d wish for humans to not have to be labored by work, in a specific way if you get what I mean. Work is hard and important yes, but we as people who live short lives should be able to still live. To their full potential. If I could I would travel my entire life, so what I’m trying to get at is I would wish work and school and other time consuming obligations, would be more lenient more so than disappear completely so people could explore life more freely without constraint.

2: I’d wish to be able to teleport LOL i’d get into so many things and visit so many of friends so much easier. I want to get into Kcon? poof i’m there. I wanna go visit my friends out in Australia and Israel? POOF there. Plus i hate driving and flying so this would cut that out of my life and make so many more things quicker. 

3: I literally have no idea. Maybe I’d wish for eternal happiness? but i dont want to rely on a wish for that, same thing with money or with finding a job. Idk really, i’ll just say my last wish will be I want to give all of my kpop boys and girls a big hug and tell them they are doing fantastic.

Omg! I was at kcon ny too! I went to that booth and my picks were Jinhyuk, Eunsang, and Wooshin. I couldn’t find Seungwoo fast enough either 😂😂 my boyfriend is actually a huge pdx101 stan too. I got him into it and he’s just as excited as I am for the debut if I’m being honest. His pick was Minkyu so he was hella upset when he wasn’t in the line up.
