How to prep for Lammas ❂
I know witchy fellas, it’s boiling hot & sunny out there. But we gotta put it in the effort. All together. Till the end. Till Lammas.
Briefly explained, Lammas or ‎Lughnasadh opens the harvest season around August 1st and our ancestors would know the perfect timing of it by watching the rise of the star Sirius at the dawn after a long while not showing. This sabbat originated by the Celts whom used to propitiate Lugh to ensure sunny weather and a fruitful harvest. He was their god of Light, excellently proficient in all arts & protector of thieves, travelers and merchants.  Moving to the southern areas, this celebration was still existing in a more earthy practical variant: mother Earth, plants, fresh produce, seeds and grains were the actual focus. These other people couldn’t care less about Lugh. They only cared about showing gratitude to Nature as a whole, often by baking the first LOAF MASS of the season (Lammas, a bread loaf) after months of summer break - we should stop baking at home from Beltane day till Lammas day, unless we’re home-based bakers and do that for a living;)
So, as usual, in this post I’m going to give you tips & ideas to prep for august 1st. Which means these are not things you should do on the very day, but BEFORE. Don’t rush last minute darlings. We can do this.
Let’s get readayyyy. ✽
1. Local farmers’ markets should become a routine. Ok, hands down we all need the supermarket to survive on a daily basis but you can surely minimize your shopping list, so you can go buy fresh produce at some farmers’ market. Buy organic stuff there, not at the mall. This is a good easy way to re-establish a direct contact with Earth and welcome earthy energies into your life. Plus, it’s going to be a refreshing walk every time.
2. Improve the lighting in your house/room. Besides Samhain, this is by far the best time of the year to purchase new lamps, led lights, lanterns; fix bulbs that are out, remove useless/broken curtains, buy candles, add fairy lights everywhere etc... Being a metaphor of the sunny weather, daylight and artificial lighting in general must be of primary importance in your environment. Enhance natural lighting during the day, set up a nice and diffused lowlight illumination system at night. Don’t forget your backyard ‘cause...
3. You should take good care of your garden. I don’t care how busy you are, we all have at least 5 spare minutes to trim out dead leaves from our plants. If you own a piece of land or have a rather big veg garden, please don’t forget about it. Pay special attention to your plants/trees, do a little bit of cleaning every day, pick what’s ripe, cut out dead leaves, get creative with your lawn mower, water the vases, work the ground... The goal is to have a beautiful, curated garden by august 1st. But if you don’t have a garden or similar...
3.2. Buy your fav aromatic plant & look after it. Choose herbs that you prefer adding to your meals (if you’re a diy pro or make your own soaps etc.. feel free to use that fragrant plant in your products), so that you’ll be able to use it quite often without forcing yourself. I personally do it with basil. Basil is my daily go-to, I love its smell and taste. Again, the goal is to buy a plant in July and prove to Mother Nature that you can nurture it properly until at least august 1st. Get in touch with the “green world” and upgrade your basic skills. In other words...
4. Try to excel in every project/activity you start. Remember what you read earlier? Blame Lugh for this one. Lammas day is like a test: if you want Nature to be by your side during harvest time, you must earn its trust through proving that you’re able to achieve great results - because you’re a hard worker.  July is about learning, attending classes, practicing, studying. My advice would be to not start a bunch of random projects now: be picky and commit to only one or a few. Be honest with yourself, modest with timing and consistent in everyday practice so that in august you’ll be skilled enough to unleash your best potential. This is your time to shine!
5. Do your research on baking bread. Yes, exactly. Read recipes, articles, books etc... On Lammas day you want to have fun baking your first bread loaf of the season, so you’d better be prepared. It’s a fun experience even if you’re not a pro baker, at least you can try a new hobby to fill your free morning/evening. But baking a beautifully decorated, tasty, fragrant bread loaf would take Lammas to the next level though.
If you don’t own an oven, purchase a small electric one for less than 50$. It’ll be useful to cook other foods in the future without stressing the hell out of your microwave.
*for our celiac fellas*: grains and gluten are clearly off-limits for you. However, Lammas’ celebration involves CORN as well. Try to make your gluten-free dough with corn flour, rice flour or other ingredients that are suitable for you. Focaccia, polenta and pizza doughs are also suitable for the occasion.
6. Include apples, grapes and corn in you cosmetics or in your diet. Since these fruits are in season, why not take heed of their benefits? Simply buy things like apple shampoo, grape lip balm, apple snacks, grape masks... A BAG OF CRISPY POP CORN...These are valid examples. You have a wide range of choice, you’ve got the powahhh.
7. Grab a book and a glass of Albariño/Pinot Noir/Rosé. That’s how you pamper yourself before Lammas. A rocking chair in the garden, proper lighting for reading, a cushion, your fav book and a glass of fine wine.
Alternatively, you can elegantly snack on grapes or sip some super refreshing apple juice from a chic crystal goblet!
8. Develop a grounding routine. For those who are new to the grounding concept, I’ll break it down real quick. We’re always moving, on the go, running, rushing, driving, working out, traveling, walking, cleaning, fidgeting, passively entertained, distracted by screens or social media etc... The practice of grounding promotes the exact opposite to reach inner balance and fulfillment. Basically, it’s very good to be swift and active, but being incapable of sitting still while quietly dealing with ourselves is a huge, major problem. Imagine rooting yourself into the soil: you can lay down or sit comfortably on the ground without a mat and really feel the Earth underneath. Close your eyes, breathe deeply, choose a meditation method that you like, visualize yourself being as static and peaceful as a tree... Or simply be. You’ll find a way to contemplate these OFFLINE moments away from photos, screens, sounds, people... This routine should take 10-20 minutes of your day. Make sure it takes place in nature, or alternatively in places where there’s actual grass, ground or nearby your (aromatic) plants so you can touch them if you need to.
9. Get creative with corn magic and corn art. Lammas has a solid tradition of corn use for various purposes. As you’re prepping for the big day, start featuring corn kernel/cobs in your magic. If you don’t practice - which is totally fine - carry a small amulet bag with corn inside with you. If you’re an artist or crafter, paint the kornel or use cobs for artwork!
10. Be out in the sunlight, sun bathe or simply breathe fresh air, get outside, enjoy all things outdoors :)
Hope this was helpful and inspirational fo you all, good luck and happy Lammas darlings.

Fic: Haven (21/50)
Summary: They say Resembool is a haven, and they’re right. Lush pastures, quaint country town, farmers’ markets on Saturdays: a bucolic paradise.
But it’s more than that. Resembool is a haven for the runaways, the deserters, the people who don’t want to be found…
The Resembool community knows there’s something odd about Hohenheim, but they’re not going to let that stop them helping him out. This is Resembool after all, a place where no one has to hide and neighbours help neighbours, be they building a fence, chasing a sheep, or trying to save the country from an evil they inadvertently helped release centuries ago…
Or: A series of slices of life in an AU in which Hohenheim never leaves, and several broken state alchemists find hope and home in Resembool.

Characters: Alex Armstrong, Joe (OC: everyone’s favourite stationmaster-slash-psychotherapist)
Content Warning: Discussion of attempted suicide.

Alex is well aware that if it wasn’t for his family name and the fact his father is a retired general, he would have been court-martialed and shot in an instant instead of being sent home from the front with a reprimand and several black marks on his record making him completely ineligible for promotion.
He hates it.
He’s glad to be alive, that’s not the issue. He’s not glad that anyone else in his position, anyone else who sees the horrendous cruelty of what they’re doing and simply cannot bring themselves to act, cannot make themselves move, will not be as lucky as he is and will receive a bullet from an unscrupulous brigadier general for their moral crisis.
As he sits on the train back from the front to Central City, he tries to think about it in a different way. He’s been given an opportunity here, an opportunity that no one else would ordinarily have. People have deserted the military before, Alex is under no illusions about that. His own commanding officer deserted. (He can’t believe that Sherman was shot, he’s been believing that she got out under her own steam somehow for months because he can’t stomach the alternative.)
But Alex is in the unique position that a disappearance on his part would not be noticed for a while. He’s not supposed to be at the front, and everywhere in Central is so frantically understaffed since all able soldiers are being sent to the front that no one would pay any attention to whether he clocked into his new desk job on time. Or at all. He has a buffer, a window in which to disappear.
He doesn’t quite know what he’ll do when he disappears, but he’ll do something. He’ll find somewhere.
All he knows right now is that he will not allow himself to be used like this again. This career, this alchemy, it might have been handed down the Armstrong family for generations, but it is going to stop with him.
Alex says no more.
Alex isn’t entirely sure what he’s doing when he steps off the train in a small station in the middle of nowhere, a village called Resembool. He doesn’t know anything about the place, and from what he can see of it off the end of the platform, its population seems to consist mostly of sheep.
He sits down on a bench on the platform, trying to gather his thoughts. Inevitably, every single thread always comes back to Ishval and what happened there, and it freezes him in place just as it did on the battlefield. He stays there long after everyone else has left the station and the train has pulled away, leaving him at the metaphorical crossroads. He’s not surprised that no one pays him any mind - they must get a lot of soldiers coming to and from the front along this route. He’s hardly anything new, although the fact that he’s travelling alone might cause some raised eyebrows.
He can’t see any raised eyebrows. Mainly because he can’t bring himself to meet anyone’s eyes.
“Are you all right there?”
He looks up to see the stationmaster peering around the waiting room door at him with a concerned look.
“I…” Alex has no idea. He’s in a state of limbo, having no idea what to do with himself or where to go. “I don’t know.”
“Ok.” The stationmaster comes and sits beside him, stretching his legs out. “I’m just slightly concerned about what you’re going to do when the next train comes along the line.”
There’s a complete calmness in the stationmaster’s voice, and he remains sitting beside Alex for a long time with neither of them speaking. Alex gets the impression that this is not the first time he’s sat on this bench next to someone contemplating their life choices. He’s not quite sure what he would do if Alex did decide to throw himself under the next train - he must weigh about a third of what Alex does, but there’s something in his calm demeanour that gives Alex the reassurance that he’s in safe hands.
“Has that ever happened before?” he asks eventually.
“Not on my watch.”
They sit together in silence for a while longer, and Alex’s thoughts come full circle back to Ishval again, and to this strange opportunity for redemption that he’s now been given, and he wonders how to move on from here.
“Let’s just say that you’re definitely not the first person I’ve found in deep thought on this bench,” the stationmaster says eventually. “Some of them have come from the direction you’ve come from.”
Well, it makes sense, Alex supposes. The deserters who don’t wander into the desert have to go somewhere, and this does seem to be the first inhabited place once the border’s crossed and the contested areas are no longer contested.
“I’m lucky,” he says eventually. “They won’t notice I’m gone for a while.”
“I see.” There’s no judgement in the stationmaster’s voice, and Alex wonders just how many people he’s seen come away from Ishval, broken in body and even more so in mind. There’s only sympathy in his expression. “Well, if you want to make the most of your head start, then this is as good a place as any in which to do it.” He nods towards the pocket-watch chain that dangles out of Alex’s pocket. “We’ve got a couple of your colleagues already hiding out here.”
It’s good to know that at least some of them have made it to safety after going awol from the front lines.
The stationmaster gets up then and goes back into the waiting room, and at first Alex thinks that this must be it, he’s off suicide watch for a while - or maybe there just aren’t any trains coming any time soon, this isn’t exactly  a large station, after all - but then he returns with a slip of paper, handing it to Alex.
“If you feel like staying, then you might want to try knocking on that door. I think you’ll be welcome there. What’s your name?”
“Armstrong. Alex Louis Armstrong.”
“Welcome to Resembool, Mr Armstrong.”
Alex stares down at the address for a long time. It feels like hours before he moves, the stationmaster giving him a knowing nod as he moves off down the platform towards the exit, and he finds himself in the main street. It’s dusk, orange twilight slowly giving in to darkness, and there aren’t that many people around. Those that are give him looks that are half wary and half curious. He tries to ignore them as he makes his way through the town, occasionally stopping to ask directions before he finds himself in front of the front door on the piece of paper.
Alex knocks.
He’s extremely surprised when Tim Marcoh opens the door, but he can’t think of a face he’d rather see.

Some call him the Bill Gates of the crypto industry, but I personally think he is not just pushing forward our industry but transforming deeply rooted economic and social culture. He fills concert halls talking about the importance of decentralization and the freedom of money. He finds time to organize dinners for journalists, introducing them to the empire he built before briskly leaving for another meeting with his team. He is idolized by his colleagues, respected by his competitors, and radiates positive energy when you meet him.
In the 2019 bear market, he managed to keep Binance’s position as one of the leading crypto exchanges by launching its first initial exchange offering in January, developing its native blockchain Binance Chain, running a decentralized trading platform, launching a United States trading desk, and keeping it competitive with Binance’s futures trading platform — to cite just a few developments.
So, when the time came to make a choice for the winner of Cointelegraph’s first-ever Top 100 list, Changpeng Zhao’s selection was a unanimous decision among our editors.
I had the wonderful opportunity to spend an hour with CZ on the eve of Valentine’s Day — a holiday he would spend with his true love: his work — to talk a bit about himself and his plans (with the next major move being the launch of Binance Cloud, exclusive details on which will be revealed very soon).
[embedded content]
Keep everything simple and work hard
Upon learning that he was selected for the top spot on the list and being asked about his favorite accomplishments in 2019, he was characteristically humble: “Other than just putting together a really good team and then leading them forward, I personally didn’t really do that much. But the team did a lot of really hard work.”
2019 was certainly a year full of initiatives and product launches, all of which received CZ’s thorough participation. Within the next couple of years, though, he plans to build up a “more unneeded situation” for himself, so that nothing depends too much on him. After that, he shared, he can probably relax and spend more time traveling the world, breaking the limits of the mode “airport–hotel–back to airport–kind of gone.”
It is hard to believe he will one day do less than he does now, as he is such a maximalist when it comes to work. He is known, however, as being rather minimalistic in his personal life. No big houses, no yachts, not even a business suit. Neither did he celebrate the last new year, explaining that he stayed home because “it is just another day.”
“I’m not materialistic because it’s kind of hard to carry anything that’s physical. I like to keep mobile. I like to be able to live in a different city every month if I want to. And with a shared economy, it’s so much easier now. So we don’t need a car — you have Uber everywhere. You have Airbnb, so I don’t need to buy a house. I don’t feel the need to own a lot of stuff, to have a really complicated life. Just keep everything simple.”
When was the last time you did something for the first time?
“There’s got to be a few recently, actually [with enthusiasm] I can’t remember what they are, but there’s got to be a couple of first times [starts thinking deeply] recently. [long pause] I actually can’t remember that much, to be honest.”
I asked CZ whether he likes being famous and what the biggest challenge to being a person in the public eye is. If he had a choice, he promptly responded, he would prefer not to be famous. But Binance had to have a public face in order to raise money and continue to grow. It is also very important, according to CZ, to have a public face to establish trust with customers who entrust their funds to Binance’s custody. “I know we’re in an industry that technically we don’t need trust, but there’s still a lot of trust that’s needed in a lot of different places.”
CZ also revealed with a smile that he was forced to be a public face, as other members of the team did not want to go public.
“I was actually hoping there would be a better face, to be honest. I don’t think I’m a very good public speaker. There are also much better-looking people. But unfortunately, for Binance, it’s me. So Binance is kind of stuck with me for now.”
Keep calm and go all-in on Bitcoin
It was in 2013 that CZ began to learn about Bitcoin. He read the white paper and started going to thematic events. Later, at a small conference in Las Vegas, he met some of today’s giants of the industry: Charlie Lee, Matthew Roszak, Vitalik Buterin. There was also a representative of Ripple who taught CZ how to use it. In the process, he transferred some XRP to CZ. When they were done, CZ wanted to transfer the coins back, but heard in response, “You can keep it and you can use it to teach the next guy.” This sparked a wild crypto adventure.
CZ quickly became enthusiastic about the technology: “I thought that community was really nice. I had a really high confidence in Bitcoin succeeding, in cryptocurrency succeeding.”
In 2014, CZ sold his house to go all-in on Bitcoin. Within three months, BTC dropped from $600 to $200, losing him two-thirds of the value of his house for roughly two years before the price went up again. When asked whether he would advise someone to take such a risk, CZ responded more as a wiseman than a poker player: “For different people, that risk appetite and risk situation is different. I would not recommend people who are struggling to pay off mortgages on their house and who need a guaranteed income from their investments to pay off some loan, to sell their house and go all-in on crypto, because crypto is highly volatile.”
You seem such a calm person. Do you meditate, or were you born like this?
“I don’t meditate that much. I tried it. I find it a little bit boring, to be honest. I don’t need it. I’m already very calm. I have a low heart rate. My resting heart rate is like 50-something. In Binance, I’ve never shouted. I’ve never yelled at anybody. I’ve never sort of become really sort of agitated. I’m always a very calm person.”
Not only did he sell the house, he also quit his job. Within two weeks, he managed to find a new one at blockchain.info, where he stayed for five months before joining OKCoin as chief technical officer. There, he spent no more than a year. It was 2017, the year of Binance’s foundation.
Along the way, CZ contributed to a considerable number of startups, many of which failed. He has a tip that helps him stay optimistic, a parable he once heard from someone: “If you walk to the bottom of a valley, what do you do? And the answer is pretty simple: You just keep walking as long as you keep walking. Then you eventually get out of the valley.”
Keep coding and get an MBA
CZ majored in computer science at McGill University in Montreal, Canada. But the last time he was coding something, he said, was a couple of years ago. He has never coded for Binance — all its code is written by others — but he was writing scripts for himself. Now, he admits to not having any time to sit down and stare at a computer screen uninterrupted. It is simply not his current life situation. He called his time very segmented, as he gets interrupted very often.
“I tell other people that now I have a memory of a goldfish, like I can’t remember anything longer than seven seconds.”
When asked for advice to the next generation of founders on whether it is better to get a degree in computer science or a master’s degree in business administration, CZ rejects the premise of the question and says to go for both. His view is that, in this sector and at this capacity, you are forced to deal with everything: technology, business models, business development, deal negotiations, marketing, customer service, compliance, legal, accounting, finance, HR. And guess what? CZ doesn’t consider himself an expert in any of these areas. With my objection to CZ’s claims of being a poor public speaker quickly dismissed earlier, I decided that contesting him at this point would be futile.
Keep being number one and go forward
The first interview with CZ I took part in dates back to 2018. Back then, he told us that Binance tries very hard not to be number one, “because being number one creates other problems sometimes, especially with regulators.” In 2020, I asked whether CZ still agrees with that, or if he’d finally given up on trying not to stand out too much.
CZ admitted that two years ago, the market was riddled with regulatory uncertainty, while today’s situation is much better. “I think today it’s OK to push forward, get the market share, and you will not be the lonely one at the top who all the regulators come for.” He also added that there is more fierce competition on the market today, so it’s become harder for small players to build themselves up.
“But we are still at the early stages. We want to see more exchanges, because right now, all over the world, if you can see more exchanges, we can see more people coming into crypto.”
CZ seems very satisfied with his professional career: “I feel I’m really lucky to have the chance to be doing what we’re doing, which is to increase access to crypto, increase the freedom of money for people around the world. That is something I’m really energetic about doing. And I just feel lucky to be in a position to be able to do that.”
If you could clone yourself, what would you like that clone to do?
“I would love the clone to do other work [laughing]. I’d make a lot of clones to do a lot of work. We can do like ten different interviews at the same time.”
Keep cool, we are living in a simulation
Binance’s current focus on developing the freedom of money is intended to give people funding power to do more research on biotech, space exploration (this field, CZ leaves to Elon Musk) and AI — all of which, according to CZ, will help our species advance significantly. For example, CZ thinks, the Coronavirus issue could be solved once funding on research is sped up.
CZ definitely wants the existing world to get better, but at the same time, he is a big believer of simulation theory. It means that we are living in an artificial, digital simulation that is conceived or orchestrated by a more sophisticated intelligence. It also means, according to CZ, that in 100 or 500 years, the advancement of technology will make the simulation we are living in controllable.
“I believe it’s 99,99999 % we’re living in a simulation. So mathematically it is basically 100 percent.”
“If you look at that Nintendo Super Mario, we can simulate the guy moving forward, moving backwards. The tricky part is I don’t know what kind of simulation we are yet. We see it being simulated by a higher being, a different dimension — or are we just sitting, sleeping there, dreaming similarly about ourselves or our own kind.”
Even though we do not know in which simulation we are living, CZ explained, it does not mean we do not have to take it seriously. On the contrary, even if it’s a full simulation, everything in the simulation still matters. “There’s a Coronavirus that matters, there’s a flooding in places, climate change, all of those things are challenges that are thrown on our way. And we should try our best to help where we can.”
Another positive aspect of believing in simulation is that it helps dealing with difficult situations and stress, it kind of gives you a lighter view on things. “Sometimes you say, ‘Well, you know, it’s just a simulation, it’s just a game.’ My role here is just to do the best I can. So I just keep putting one foot in front of the other and keep marching forward. So it makes life a lot easier, actually.”
Rapid fire questions for CZ
Sea or mountains?
I’d probably choose mountains, but I do like ocean sports as well.
Beer or wine?
Beer.
McDonald’s or Burger King?
Burger King, because at least some of them accept Bitcoin and Binance coin.
Black or yellow?
Black.
Snowboarding or work?
I really enjoy snowboarding, but you can’t snowboard all the time. You can do a couple of days a year, it’s good enough.
Simulation or reality?
Definitely, simulation. There is no reality.

Norcal in September, Day 4: The Final Push
After 63 holes on Monday, I was back at it again on Tuesday with another 63 holes. The real grueling part was knowing I still had a 7-hour-or-so drive home that night! I was hoping to hit the road a bit earlier than I did, but a special circumstance came up that caused an unexpected  3-hour detour. More on that later.
Not counting the final round I squeezed in, Tuesday was focused around the city of Roseville, which is just northeast of Sacramento. With all the courses in Roseville, Lincoln, Rocklin and then Auburn a bit further east, this is an area that is certainly loaded with golf. I’ve been doing pretty good in recent years to make a big dent in this part of the greater Sacramento region.
First, came the early morning round...
Morgan Creek Golf Club • Roseville, CA • 9/19/17
My friend and I had an early tee time and were aiming to be the first off at the crack of dawn—or maybe even a few minutes before there was enough light to see much. An older couple beat us to the first tee in the dark. The pro shop guy assured us that they were regulars who were super-fast. “Nobody ever catches them,” he says.
Those words only served as a challenge to us, as we pride ourselves on playing quickly and we had another tee time to get to across town. We let them go ahead and even gave a slight head-start as I wanted at least a tiny bit of daylight to work with for pictures. Admittedly, they were very quick players and they jumped out to a good lead. By the time we got to the back nine, however, we caught up to them and started to push. They relented and finally let us play through with a handful of holes left to go.
The rack price for a weekday morning round was $50, which seemed rather steep and was definitely overpriced for this course at the moment. I’ll talk about conditions in a bit, but they were fairly disappointing. It’s too bad because the course layout turned out to be one of my favorites on this entire trip.
Morgan Creek used to be a private club and it’s only in recent years that it went fully public. You can tell the economy and the drought definitely took a toll on this place, which is unfortunate.
Morgan Creek was designed by Kyle Phillips, who is a modern course architect who recently came to my attention when I played the famed California Golf Club of San Francisco a couple months back. He led the most recent renovation of that great course. And as I did more research I found that almost all of his United States projects were renovations at high-end clubs such as Wilshire, Del Paso, Incline Village and Menlo CC. Otherwise, the majority of his courses are overseas.
However, Morgan Creek is currently the only course in the U.S. that Phillips designed from the ground up. With that knowledge, I was certainly interested in playing it despite it being a course that really doesn’t garner a lot of attention.
Well, I sure hope Mr. Phillips is able to develop more new courses in California and that his proposed Alameda Point project (which sounds like a brand new resort course in conjunction with a major renovation of the Chuck Corica complex in the East Bay) gets further off the ground. As a course layout, Morgan Creek is a gem.
With the fairway and rough conditions being less-than-desirable, we kind of had to use our imagination a bit to visualize what this course must have looked like in its heyday (and hopefully can look like again). Phillips apparently worked for Robert Trent Jones II Design and you can definitely sense some RTJ (Junior and Senior) influence along with maybe a little Dye thrown in.
Morgan Creek plays through a nice natural area along a creek. There are plenty of old oak trees in play, so the setting has a good feel and there aren’t many houses infringing on the course despite it being in the middle of a gated residential community. There really aren’t any significant changes in elevation here, but a lot of earth was moved to shape the course. Most fairways are lined with different mounds, steps and shelves to create a visually interesting contour. The greens are mostly elevated and also surrounded by a lot of similar undulation and some deep bunkers to add some intimidation. Beyond the creek that can come into play on many holes, there are other large man-made water hazards to contend with throughout the course.
Some could argue the course has a bit of a “manufactured” look in places, which is often the knock against RTJ Jr. and Dye. I felt like it added a lot of character at Morgan Creek and only enhanced the nice natural setting. I don’t know if my pictures will really show these contours due the spotty conditions and also the lack of light for much of the front nine as we played so early.
To me, the highlight holes were 10, 11 and 18, which all have a similar vibe. The 10th is a solid par-5 with a water hazard running the length of the hole on the left. Just off the fairway to the left is a steep slope down to the water, so you’re quite lucky if you hit over there and the ball stays up.
The 11th plays straight back along that same water hazard. It is a long and demanding par-4. The 18th is a very strong finisher that doglegs left around a water hazard. The par-3s that stick out are easily the 7th and 16th, which both play over water hazards and have well-protected greens.
As mentioned, the conditions left a lot to be desired and we also battled with maintenance on the greens throughout our round. The tee boxes were flat enough to get a tee in the ground, but the ground was firm and the grass was patchy at best on most blue tees. The fairways were patchy and inconsistent. There were some muddy wet spots, some really firm hardpan sections, some shaggy areas, and some thin spots. It looked decent from afar as you’ll see in pictures, but not so nice up close in most areas. The rough was more of the same, just any grass was longer. I will say the back nine was probably in slightly better shape than the front for whatever reason. They did have really nice soft bunker sand, so that was a highlight.
The greens were pretty good as well, other than the amount of grass clippings left on top from the mower. We played around the guys with blowers clearing them off, so we only got a few holes that weren't covered with clippings. Otherwise, the greens were receptive and rolling well at medium/fast speeds, and I am sure they were much nicer for later players once the wet grass clippings were cleared off.
I’m mixed on whether I should recommend Morgan Creek to my fellow traveling golfers. It is a design worth checking out. I don’t know if we just caught the course in a bad time of year or if it is on a consistent downward trajectory in terms of conditioning. I have to say almost everywhere else we played was in very nice shape, so that doesn’t bode well for Morgan Creek.

Next, we had a little unfinished business to take care off across town...
Diamond Oaks Golf Course • Roseville, CA • 9/19/17
We had initially tried to play here in July, but got screwed by a “phantom” early morning tee time that we had booked but didn’t really exist. We had a Costco voucher for 2 players that we wanted to utilize. They were unable to get us out that morning and the guy in the pro shop was not the most pleasant character.
They were much nicer this time around and we moved up to an 8:58 tee time after finishing so quickly at Morgan Creek. It was fairly busy at Diamond Oaks, though. We just played as a twosome behind some other groups and really didn’t have anywhere to jump ahead. However, we had nobody pushing behind us either. So we would just take 15-20 minute breaks every couple holes, watch TV on our phones and then play 1-2 holes at a time without having to wait in between shots. The overall pace really wasn’t that bad as we finished in about 4 hours, 20 minutes.
Diamond Oaks is one of this area’s older municipal courses with a pretty traditional design by Ted Robinson. The layout turned out to be more interesting than I expected though. It has some slight changes in elevation and it uses the natural terrain pretty well with plenty of trees in play.
My favorite holes were the 4th, 6th and 12th. The 4th is a nice short-ish par-4 set in the back corner of the property. It is a dogleg right with an uphill approach. The 6th is a fun par-5 that I wish I had more local knowledge of before playing as I royally screwed up my second shot over the ravine. Otherwise, it is a split fairway design that will make you think on each shot.
The 12th is kind of the signature par-3 over water, which you might expect on a Robinson course. No waterfalls or wood planking, though.
Diamond Oaks was in solid condition. Again, for a course of this caliber, nothing much to complain about. The tee boxes were fine. The fairways and rough were a mix of bermuda and kikuyu (more kikuyu, though), but fairly well maintained with mostly good coverage. You just had to pay attention to the lies before swinging. The bunkers were on the thin side. I found them just adequate enough while my playing partner found them to be way too firm. As was the theme for this trip, the greens here were excellent. They were receptive and rolling smooth at medium/fast speeds.
It’s easy to see why Diamond Oaks gets so much local play. It is a solid layout with above average conditioning for a muni, and good deals are very easy to find. It’s not a must-play for the traveling golfer visiting the Sacramento area, but it’s good enough to enjoy a regular round.

What was supposed to be my final round for the trip was kind of the main reason for this particular visit to the Sacramento area...
Sierra View Country Club • Roseville, CA • 9/19/17
My friend has an NCGA membership and signed me up as a guest for this outing, which was supposed to be on Monday and the reason why we had the travel dates for this trip all locked in. However, there was a scheduling conflict and they had to cancel the outing somewhat last minute. Instead, the club just opened it up to all attendees to schedule individual tee times on other days. It was cool they did that rather than cancel it altogether.
It worked out well because it gave us a lot more flexibility. We loosely set up a 2:09 tee time. The registration price for guests was only $60 and it also included a free lunch. We had time to relax and eat in the clubhouse before heading to the first tee.
It wasn’t super busy out, but there were enough people on the course to slow things down. And unfortunately, a lot of people jumped on the 10th tee ahead of us as we were making the turn. They were either people only playing the back nine or they had taken long breaks in between nines. After this, we had to get a little creative. We played 15-18 and then circled back to play 10-14. It was a good move and definitely saved us some time.
Sierra View is another somewhat older course that was originally designed by Jack Fleming, who is best known for his work on San Francisco’s municipal course collection. It definitely has a traditional vibe and a nice presentation.
The course is rather hilly, so the changes in elevation provide a lot of natural character in addition to the mature trees lining all the fairways. Many of the greens are elevated, but the complexes are fairly simply designed and the bunkering isn’t too intimidating. This layout is mostly about positioning yourself safely off the tee (don’t hit a tree or catch a side slope) and then you’ll have some decent scoring opportunities.
The back nine is easily more memorable than the front, especially the closing stretch of 14-18. Otherwise, Sierra View has a really strong collection of par-3s. The 5th and 12 feature elevated tees hitting downhill to the greens. The 8th and 17th both find you hitting over water hazards with elevated tees and greens. We had quite a bit of wind on Tuesday afternoon, which made 8 and 17 especially play very long. I found myself using a driver on the 168-yard 17th, only to come up about 10 yards short after a solid shot! Mind you, a good drive for me is only 200-210 yards max these days, but that’s still a very stiff wind.
Conditions were very nice overall, and again we had fantastic greens that were receptive and rolling super smooth at medium-fast speeds. The fairways and rough were all nicely conditioned kikuyu (with the occasional bermuda patch here and there). The bunkers were excellent, as well. There wasn’t anything to knock about the conditions here.
The facilities are nice and relaxed, and the staff was great. We felt really welcomed and comfortable as outside guests on a normal day of play. The food was also quite good.
Sierra View isn’t one of Northern California’s more prominent private clubs, but it is well worth playing if you ever have a chance. It offers an old school, friendly club vibe with a very enjoyable classic course design.

Now, Sierra View was supposed to be my last round for the day so I could hit the road back home and perhaps get home at a reasonable hour. However, something else came up that couldn’t be ignored, even though it was well out of the way...
Camino Heights Golf Course • Camino, CA • 9/19/17
I mentioned in my previous article that my friend and I split up on Monday afternoon because we had different local course collecting priorities. He went off to play Apple Mountain, which is my personal favorite in the Sacramento area and one that I hope to play again someday. However, there are still so many other courses I need to play, which is why I stayed in town and knocked out a few shorties instead.
Anyway, in planning for Apple Mountain, he wanted to knock out nearby Camino Heights if he was going to drive out that way. In calling around, he discovered that Camino Heights actually just closed. Northern California short courses have been dropping like flies in recent years, which is sad. Every time I plan a trip, I have to update my list and cross off a few more. It turns out that Camino Heights’ last official day in business was Sunday. What a bummer that we just barely missed it. Or did we?
Still, he stopped by there after finishing at Apple Mountain to see what it looked like. In talking with some residents of the community that he ran into, it turns out that the course did close. However, a couple other residents just bought it and have plans to reopen it in the future, perhaps as a private course just for the residents of Camino Heights.
What made things interesting is that the flags were still out on the course and it was accessible for play. The little parking lot and pro shop were completely deserted, but some scorecards were out. Basically, they said it’s just a play-it-as-is-if-you-want situation while the course is essentially in limbo.
He was able to play it that evening and I wasn’t going to be outdone. I had to make my way out there on Tuesday evening before heading home, even though it meant getting home after 3:00am instead of around midnight! The course was available to play, it was free and its future is very uncertain. It may or may not reopen and it may only be private when it does, so I had better play it while I for sure could.
Camino is about 45 minutes east of Sacramento on the way to South Lake Tahoe. I was able to take side streets down straight from Roseville, but it is brutal drive in rush hour traffic. It took me over an hour to get down there. I found the course and finished walking it just before dark.
Fortunately, Camino Heights is/was only a 9-hole course with a par of 31. It features four relatively short par-4s mixed with five par-3s of varying lengths. That made it playable with my time constraints. Unfortunately, this is a very hilly course with a sometimes confusing, tangled routing, so it was completely exhausting to walk, carry my full bag and play fast at the end of a grueling golf trip. I survived, though.
It’s actually a fun little course thanks to the changes in elevation and rural setting. I hope the new owners are able to recover and restore it as much as possible.
Otherwise, calling the conditions “as-is” is exactly that. The course just officially closed and you can tell they haven’t been putting in that much effort in its final weeks/months of business. The fairways are super shaggy, lumpy, patchy, etc. The greens are ugly. There was even one temporary green in play.
The conditions were not good, and I didn’t expect them to be. It was at least moderately playable, which is all I could hope for in this situation. It was enough to say I officially played the course. I have the scorecard and pictures to prove it!

Cash or no cash - where do you stand?

Image caption Mobile payments are growing in popularity – but may not work everywhere
Cash is at risk of disappearing without action from regulators and the government, according to a major report published earlier this week.
The system which underpins the use of notes and coins was at risk of falling apart, the Access to Cash Review concluded.
Millions of people would be lost without cash, it said, but there is a clear trend towards digital payments.
So, how would you react to the end of cash, and could you operate without it? Two of many people who contacted BBC News about the issue this week give their views.
Stolen cards – what next?
Convenience is said to be one of the biggest advantages of a digital wallet – where payments can be made without having to rifle around for the correct notes or coins.
But one Cambridge businesswoman said that the case of her stolen handbag showed how life would be more inconvenient without cash. Still concerned about security, she did not want to give her name.
Image copyright Getty Images
She told BBC News about how she had left her bag in the footwell of her car in a supermarket car park while she returned her trolley. In the minute she was away, a thief had smashed the window, grabbed the bag, and was running off with it. Inside the handbag was her purse, carrying her personal and company bank cards.
“In the time it took for me to block all the cards, three of them were used to make 12 purchases adding up to just under £360 using contactless transactions,” she said.
Debit card payments more popular than cash
New £50 bank note ‘must recognise ethnic minorities’
That was frustrating, but the inconvenience came as it took five days to receive all the replacement cards.
She said: “Without my cards, I had to borrow some cash to tide me over until the new cards arrived. If we don’t have cash what would I have done?
“Banks can’t act in an instant way to replace cards. There is no replacement for cash in all circumstances.”
‘I haven’t used cash for five months’
Travelling, lunch, and all the day-to-day payments in Matt’s life mean he is conducting his finances on his smartphone, rather than in cash.
The 50-year-old, who works in financial technology, admits that he is an early and enthusiastic adopter of digital payments and money management, but says he has had no need of cash at all in the past five months.
“Someone tried to give me a £10 note the other day and I hardly knew what it was,” he said.
Image copyright Getty Images
He commutes from Surrey to London and buys his rail and bus tickets digitally. The same is true of lunch and the occasional drink after work.
“Even the vending machine at work accepts contactless, so my wallet is at home,” he said.
“Every now and then someone only takes cash. The last time I used it was to pay my local barber.”
He accepted that cash still had a place for some people struggling with technology, and working in London made it easy to pay without cash.
However, he expected future generations to pay digitally. When his son was paid in cash, he put it straight into a bank so he could spend it via his card or phone, he said.
‘Tap dogs’ – how charities are adapting
Gone are the days when charity donations are just loose change thrown into a volunteer’s bucket.
Fundraisers have adapted by taking card payments, and in the case of animal support charity Blue Cross it is the dogs that carry the technology.

A PayPal contactless card reader sits in a pocket of the “Tap Dog’s” coat, accepting £2 donations via contactless technology from cards or a smartphone or watch.
“We are in an increasingly cashless society and need to be versatile in the ways people can donate to us,” said Julia McKechnie-Burke, from Blue Cross.
“We love that dogs are able to directly help us raise funds as pets are at the heart of everything we do.”

Here is the extra text
The next video will cover brand colours, how to select them and how to create a brand board.
For those that prefer to read rather than watch the video, here's the transcript...
Today I’m going to talk about vacation rental websites and brand building and I’m going to share some easy to follow takeaways that you can employ that will bring you more direct bookings.
But, first off let’s forget about vacation rentals for a minute and let’s imagine that we’re selling something else.
Let’s imagine that we are selling knives.
We all own knives. There are lots to choose from. Kitchen knives, bread knives, butter knives and cheese knives. Some of us have pen knives, sheath knives, cleavers or machetes.
Knives come in all shapes and sizes.
Marketing 101
If we are going to be selling knives in a competitive marketplace, how are we going to approach that?
I for one would start looking at which knives out sell other knives and why.
Ask yourself, what’s the best selling knife of all time (and why)?
You probably know the answer…
It’s the Swiss Army Knife made by Victorinox
So, what makes it so popular?
It’s well established (they were founded in 1884)
They are high quality
It’s more than “just a knife” it’s a multi tool and that’s what sets it apart from the crowd
They are branded
So if we are looking to run a successful knife company the Swiss Army Knife would be a good example to follow.
We can’t establish ourselves in 1884 but we can aim to produce a quality product, create a multi purpose tool and build a brand alongside the product.
That, in effect, is exactly what Leatherman and Gerber (the other main players in the space) did, and it worked for them too.
Back to vacation rental websites and branding…
Just like knives, rental properties come in all shapes and sizes. There are villas, condos, cottages, penthouses, cabins, treehouses, windmills, follies and apartments and more.
The market is competitive and if we want to succeed we need a quality, multi purpose product and we need to build a brand around it.
Quality
In order to survive in an oversaturated marketplace you need a quality offering. If you don’t offer quality you can only compete on price and that’s a race to the bottom. It’s a simple choice. Run with the crowd or strive to be the best. The choice is yours but the choice that matters is that of the potential guest and given a choice between high and low quality we all choose on the side of quality. We may not all be able to afford the quality options in life but we all prefer the quality option.
Multi Purpose
Every day I see owners asking about building websites for their properties. They want to know the best way of creating a site for their property. Should they use Wix, Weebly, WordPress, Lodgify or Promote My Place.
It makes little to no difference which platform you use to create your website. What matters is what your website provides for your site visitors. Here at the soup, we create lots of vacation rental websites but we don’t create websites for VR owners. We focus on what potential guests need.
It’s this very approach that made Victorinox’s Swiss Army Penknife so successful. It isn’t just a knife. People who use it have access to a tooth pick, a nail file, a pair of scissors and other useful tools depending on the model they bought.
If you create a Swiss Army Knife of a website your site visitors will find it more useful than than the standard one dimensional, ‘here’s some photos of my house’ offering of the masses.
People aren’t going on vacation because you have somewhere to stay. They are going on vacation to have a good time. They just happen to need somewhere to stay while having a good time.
If your website helps them have a better vacation, both at the planning stage and during the vacation itself that can only benefit you and the guests themselves.
Websites that only serve a sales purpose don’t attract traffic and they don’t serve a potential guests needs.
Building A Brand
Around 50% of short term rental owners have a website but less that 1% are actively building a brand.
That’s a pretty shocking fact considering that we live in a branded world. Everywhere we look we see Coca Cola, Nike, Apple, Amazon, Disney and the like.
The same goes for Airbnb, Booking(.com) and Homeaway in our business.
Once again, the Swiss Army Penknife is a great example of great branding. In effect they did little more than make their knives red and add a logo but their knives are recognisable from a distance. Yes, quality and the multi purpose aspects play A PART but the red knife cheeks set them APART.
Now of course we can’t compete with the big brands, we don’t have big branding departments or big marketing budgets but we can out brand the vast majority of competing rental property owners and that’s all that matters.
Let’s start with some basics…
A logo
To begin with, not many owner run businesses even have a logo but logos are easy to come by.
Just head over to fiver.com or fivesquid.com and search ‘logo’ and you will find a raft of designers that will create a logo for you from just five dollars.
My advice here is to spend more than five dollars though. As with all things, you get what you pay for and fifty dollars will get you something that you can be proud of. After all you are going to live with your logo for a long time.
Many people think that a logo is a brand but the logo is only the face of your brand.
Building your brand
If the logo is the face of your brand then the brand itself is the personality of your business. It’s how you look and behave, it’s how you answer the phone, it’s how you appear across social media and in emails.
In the simplest of terms, a brand is being consistent. It’s using the same colours and fonts. The same tone. The same level of service. Across all aspects of your business.
In conclusion
In a hugely competitive marketplace only products of quality will survive. Businesses that serve the customer outperform those that serve the owner. Becoming recognisable and being consistent is a key factor in becoming sucessful.
Knives need to be sharp in order to serve their purpose and you need to be sharp when it comes to outperforming your competition. Knives that aren’t sharp are dull and there are tens of thousands of dull, one dementional,  rental websites with no branding strategy out there. Don’t be dull. Be sharp.

So Boys and Girls, Today we’ll learn about cheap flights to Venice, how bad things can sometimes happen in more than threes, how beautiful this city really is and how to set off the security alarms in an airport.
The Pilgrim has been busy on T’internet and has a proposal.
“Fancy a run to Venice?”, she asks. “Do dickie birds fly and fish swim?”, was my reply.
It’s fifty quid apiece for the airfares and a little over that per-night for an AirBnB apartment in the heart of the town about five minutes from Rialto Bridge.
In the intervening time there has been a flurry of activity around the Passport Office in Durham which turned into an away-day holiday on the train and included a wonderful walk around the city followed by a gentle meander around the Cathedral. All very pleasant and I have to say the people at the Passport Office were charm and efficiency itself. My high tech passport had got a poorly chip and forgotten the colour of my eyes or shape of my retina or some such thing. You might say no big deal but it did result in me getting ‘special treatment’ on each trip away this year whilst the Pilgrim and the other travellers, presumably including terrorists, got to be fast tracked through the automatic barriers. I never got the thrill of the rubber gloves but the threat was always there!
Anyway, it’s three thirty in the morning and I’m having a coffee, the Pilgrim joins me at about quarter to four and by four o’clock we’re carefully removing the nearside mirror from the car by virtue of a stone gatepost; no matter, we’re going on holiday.
We’re not out of town yet and I realise I’ve left three hundred euros but decide not to return as I can use them when I’m in Nice in another month.
We’re on our way to Leeds/Bradford where it is chaotic. Staff are, as alway, cheerful and respectful but the airport itself seems to have outgrown its capacity. I know that in another two or three hours we’ll be in the sunshine but the morning hasn’t started well.
We eventually board the ‘plane and then begin counts and re-counts followed by threats to remove the luggage of some unpronounceable individual who, it would seem, has dematerialised during the short trip between check-in and the flight. After several more re-counts and a walk down the aisle with a clip board the threat is carried out. It’s really is stacking up to be ‘one of those days’!
So, we’re a little late but at least we’re off, short of the aeroplane falling out of the sky we’ll be there in two hours; it doesn’t and we are.
Carefree now, we board a bus that takes us about 50 metres to the door to the terminal whilst those that haven’t boarded the bus arrive just a little before us having walked – but it’s Italy and that’s OK.
We’re just about to go through passport control and I’m looking forward to testing my new chip but this is all manual so It’ll remain untested until our return. Then there’s an ‘oh shit’ moment as the Pilgrim realises she’s left her bag in the care of Ryanair on the ‘plane. “Well, pluck me with a feather”, says she (Well it was something like that) and makes a return to said ‘plane with considerable haste. I’m thinking that the morning started poor and has gone steadily gone down hill when the Pilgrim’s good intentions turn to bad as she sets off the airport security alarms whilst making her illegal exit to the tarmac. After a brief explanation and a thorough check of her passport by the officials who clearly believe her to be a threat to national security we’re reunited at the bag drop where both my hold baggage and her cabin back have made a miraculous appearance.
We exit the secure area into the arrivals hall and start the process of hunt the email that proves we have a ticket for the transfer from Treviso Airport to Venice itself and it seems to have done a runner. After several searches of the ‘phone and some sage advice from the help desk where the mere mention of Ryanair and a transfer into town brings a rye smile and a toss of the head in a John Mcenroe “You cannot be serious” kind of way. She points us to the ticket office at the other end of the hall where I’d already had some advice and thankfully they are well on the ball and hand a list of names to the Pilgrim to identify herself. That done and tickets exchanged we’re on the bus. All’s well that ends well; however, we still haven’t connected with Sandra who owns the apartment that we ‘might’ be staying in for the next four days. I’ve seen the trail of texts and emails on the Pilgrim’s ‘phone where she’s made every effort to respond both timely and in appropriate detail; however, Sandra’s replies have been inconsistent and efforts to ring her ‘phone have been unsuccessful. It’s quite important that we meet as she’ll be showing us where it is, letting us in and handing over the key, well that’s the plan.
Hopes are raised as the Pilgrim receives a call from Sandra, a lovely Welsh lady from Swansea and our contact for the apartment; no, this is a huge coincidence, the name is correct, we are wanting to talk to Sandra but not about solar panels, I think I’d have told her to piss off but the Pilgrim is made of sterner stuff and is rather more polite.
Back to the challenge in hand, we’d really, really like to be able to pick up those keys today. There’s some light hearted conversation about the scenery and a comment about what nice weather we’re having, then, about half an hour in and some WhatsApp activity there are smiles as contact is made. Sandra prefers the use of WhatsApp but had clearly forgotten to mention it.
So, we exit the coach at the bus stop, buy a hat, nice paper straw one made in China, buy a couple of three day tickets for all public transport a snip at 40 euros each, we activate them ready for our first canal excursion with the intention of meeting Sandra near the Travalex, she’ll be sporting a red rose and wearing a green scarf (OK the last part may include embellishment but the Travelex bit is true).
The journey along the canal is spectacular and the sky is unbroken sunshine, what’s not to like.
We disembark at Rialto and, whilst there’s no soft focus shot or slow motion approach we’re still quite glad that Sandra is really real and not a digital assistant living in a virtual world. We do the continental kissing bit, elaborate and on both cheeks and then she welcomes us to Venice.
The apartment is situated no more than 10 minutes from anything but only 5 minutes from Rialto Bridge so it’s central with a big ‘C’. It can be found, with a bit of patience, along a labyrinth of very narrow streets and if you have Google Maps on your ‘phone is dead easy to find, without it you need a Geographer!
Sandra is very patient and spends over an hour advising us of restaurants, cafes, sights to see and towers to climb to see magnificent views – and magnificent views there are aplenty!
After Sandra’s exhaustive and exhausting introduction we make our way back to Rialto Bridge and board the vaporetto to… well it could have been anywhere because you just can’t make a bad choice. We end up at Piazza San Marco where the Campanile di San Marco dominates the square and you can pay 8 euros for a coffee then be chased along the street for another 15 euros for the entertainment that just happens to be playing adjacent to where you’re sitting. We’d been warned (thanks Anne) so we make every effort to enjoy the square then make our way to a cafe with rather less eye watering intent but equally good coffee.
The return involves snaking our way along some of the narrowest and cleanest passageways that oozed safety. In fact I’ve never been to a city that’s felt this safe and hope that it’s not built on a false premise.
At ten to nine the sun goes down and at nine it’s dark and we pass a kind of courtyard that’s lit by coloured lights and there is one table ideally placed at the outer edge of the clutter that’s been recently vacated. It whispers an invitation that we accept with gratitude and the waiter immediately responds with a cloth to wipe it down and take our drinks order.
This is such a good place, there is no thoroughfare of people wandering past and knocking the chairs and tables. The lights are subdued but not dingy. The waiter is attentive and knowledgeable and the food is divine. An hour and half later we’re well fed, a little mellow and ready for bed and here’s the bonus, we’re only five minutes from our temporary Home.
How to describe Venice? Well. The Pilgrim summed it up where quoting someone else’s quote; ‘Venice cannot be compared with anywhere else but Venice. I couldn’t know that now but I will do when I leave.
We walked and floated on our second day around the City taking in vaporettos, bridges, churches and more canals. During the day there are crowds, and these are challenging on the vaporettos but it’s no real issue as we’re only on them for one or two stops and the staff are super efficient shouting commands first in Italian then in English. Everywhere we go we’re looked after by smiling locals who live either here on the main island or make a short commute from one of the islands.
There is evidence of the greatness of Venice everywhere. It was founded in the 5th century and became a dominant region for trade linking Europe, Africa and because of the sea links the far east and Asia. It’s had a number of titles but all of them include the word Venice. My favourite that is still appropriate today is Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta which means the Serene Republic Of Venice. There is little traffic noise because there are no roads. There is some minor engine noise from the various boats but not intrusive. The noise of people talking to each other is clear and occasionally there’ll be locals shouting to each other in Italian as they toss merchandise, sometimes in huge and unfeasibly heavy packs off working boats from canal to shore and always with a twinkle in the eye and a captivating smile often accompanied with a baritone laugh.
The streets, paths and passageways are narrow and always have a bridge as they criss cross the canals. The labyrinth is intimidating to start with then, as I begin to appreciate how small the city is, it becomes irrelevant. I’m also accompanied by own Geographer/Map Reader with an unerring sense of direction in the form of the Pilgrim who seems to have memorised areas of the city and the means of getting between them.
Going back to the Serenìsima Repùblica Vèneta, there was an unofficial referendum in 2014. It was claimed there were 2.34 million votes cast and the result was that the Serene Republic of Venice should be re-established and it would accede to the EU, adopt the Euro and join NATO. It was all non-binding of course but it is an indicator of the pride of the people in their region. Their sole purpose in life is to show us their city and make it an amazing experience into the bargain, well that’s my take on it anyway!
It did enjoy a period of about a thousand years as a sovereign state from the ninth century during which time the focus was almost exclusively trade although they did indulge in a bit of fighting along the coast with a navy that was not to be ‘messed with’.
There is evidence of great men in the form of statues to saints and sinner alike. Vivaldi is prominent together with Marco Polo and there are exhibitions and more statues in fabulous open piazzas usually dominated by a church. Sadly, there is very little in terms of great women and the only female statues that I saw were saints or references to Giocometti’s exhibition of his Women of Venice statuettes which, apparently, travelled the world including the Tate in Britain.
It is a city of contradictions with occasional signs that politely ask you not to picnic on the steps of a bridge; however, there are no public seats in any of the piazzas so they’re ignored anyway.
The bars and restaurant/cafes have seating areas which are not particularly jealously guarded and I do sit at one or two of them whilst checking the map with no intrusion by waiter or owner such is the welcome.
On the third day we go by vaporetto to Lido which is a long island to the south east of the main conurbation of Venice. The beach is busy but not crushed like some of the popular Spanish ones and the Adriatic is warm so we take the opportunity to swim and follow that with drying off under the warm sun.
It reminds me of childhood days in Redcar when we’d be taken there once per year usually as a church outing in a ‘luxury’ coach with seats that were rough on the skin of boys and girls in short trousers and equally short dresses. As I doze I can remember the first shout of “I can see the sea” as we reach the top of the bank at Yearby and the excitement of nearly being there as the coach pulled into a parking area. These ‘coach parks’ were really an area of waste ground and there were so many coaches that they were parked extremely close to each other so that it was necessary to agree a time for our return which was not negotiable.
There then followed a day of sandcastles carefully built with small, brightly painted, tin buckets and matching spades. Then we’d attempt to fill the moats with sea water that disappeared at the same rate as you poured it from the bucket. The bucket, of course, was now rendered useless as a receptacle for building more sandcastles because the wet inside would make the sand stick so you couldn’t get the smooth sides necessary for the turrets. We found a way around that though by wetting the sand first, not too wet though or they would collapse; the mix had to be just right.
There’d be ice-cream as a treat and a break in the middle of the day to consume the pre-prepared sandwiches wrapped in grease proof paper and usually with the added thrill of additional sand that grated in your teeth and this, sometimes, was supplemented by chip show chips and I still enjoy a sandwich of any sort with a few chips on the side of the plate as a treat.
All of this was interspersed with occasional dips in the icy North Sea followed by violent shivering as the water evaporated from our skin and ‘me Mam’ would vigorously rub us down with a towel that removed the water droplets and warmed us up but left a residue of sand so that whatever tan we’d acquired through the day would be sandblasted off by the afternoon rub.
Twenty minutes before the pre-determined time we’d all return to the ‘coach park’ along with half the mother & child population of Yorkshire to choke on the exhaust fumes of the now started coaches and be transported back home with tales to tell in the playground the following week. Oh, and, I don’t remember a day that wasn’t sunny but I do remember my sisters listening and singing Buddy Holly’s “Peggy Sue”.
I drift back to the sand here at the Venice Lido and enjoy the same sandy sandwiches only this time it’s a baguette and some very pleasant cherry tomatoes. The Pilgrim has prepared one with some olive oil, bay leaves and tomatoes so that it infuses into a bit of soft mass but the result is a very acceptable sandwich on the beach. I have separate components as I’m not keen on the thought of the soggy infusion but on the day, it does smell very nice.
We hire a four wheeled bike and I’m put in charge of the steering wheel but, in less than a mile, we’re returning to the owner with a request for a couple of two wheel bikes. There are no gears on the four wheeler and we both agree it is too slow.
Now equipped with a two rather more appropriate machines we tackle a circular route that more or less follows the coast. If you do come to Venice, I’d urge you to do this and just take your time. Whilst the Lido is not as picturesque as Venice proper, our afternoon is a delight and coupled with the spell on the beach, is a great way to soak up some sun.
We make a return to Fondemente Nove on the main Venice island passing the Hospital on route then make our way adjacent to the Ospedale Ss Giovani e Paolo (they don’t make it easy) and into the wonderful Basilica piazza of the same name. Time for coffee and a rest then off to gently walk the relatively short distance back to the apartment.
We’re lucky with evening meals. All are exceptional and by utilising the “Venezia Typicale” part of the menu we get beautiful local treats. Our first evening meal was in a small square, our next involved two, or it could have been three cicchetti (we did have a drink at each one – OK maybe it was four) which is the Venetian equivalent of tapas and they are wonderful.
The other two nights are spent with best bib and tucker on the banks of the Grande Canal. The prices are somewhat challenging but the ambience can not be bought and the Pilgrim is looking stunning so it has to be done. We eat as the sun goes down and the tide comes in. The canal laps on to the piazza as the vaparettos and other boats go by but the tiny waves only encroach by a couple of yards and we’re another twenty yards away. There are youngsters all dressed up and some of them wearing wreathes around their necks to celebrate graduation. They’ve had a few drinks but are not intrusive and they seem to want to do is sing. A police boat goes by with blue lights flashing but the picture is surreal as it doesn’t seem to be in any hurry.
Sobriety is abandoned in my case when I indulge in a bit of wine tasting that results in an empty bottle, I’m guessing the two or three Moretti as warm up may have contributed too. It did result in some significant snoring; however, why anyone would want to stay up and listen to me snore is a mystery to me.
Our final morning involves a 6am start and a bit of a walk which is pleasant in the sunshine. We do underestimate the time to reach the coach park where the airport shuttle bus operates and we arrive two minutes after seven. The bus is timetabled to leave at seven so things get a little tense as I wave my hat at the driver whilst the Pilgrim lies on the road in front of his wheels. Needless to say, we get on and although the rest of the occupants are not best pleased, we are – albeit, in my case, somewhat sweaty.
If you use the Treviso Venice airport there is a nice cafe just over the road that the Pilgrim points out. She’s used it before and it is far more ‘local’ and less frenetic than the ones in the departure lounge.
This is a glorious city every bit as wonderful as it’s been described, I’d go back in a heart beat and have already begun the planning.
Enjoy the snaps…G..x
With the Pilgrim Cecilia Kennedy
PS: if you can, view the snaps at full size and try not to get “Veniced out” as there are rather a lot of them.
As always please feel free to share.

If I Ruled The World
The world would be quite a bit different if I were its supreme dictator. Oh yes, I am in favor of a dictatorship, as long as that dictator is me! And here's how it would go.
A few disclaimers before we begin: 1) Keep your expectations low when you read this. You won’t like everything I list but you won’t hate it all either. This is due to me being neither a liberal or a conservative solely but rather bits and pieces of each. 2) I am making this rant for my own entertainment and the entertainment of the few people who enjoy it when I rant. I am not making this in hopes of starting a debate on what is right or wrong, stupid or smart. If I sound like an idiot to you, cool. Let me sound like an idiot in peace! With that said, keep your lame ass argumentative comments out of my inbox. Thanks. Ok on with the rant!
First of all, I'd have to setup a single worldwide government. The current rulers of all current nations would become representatives of their respective countries on my World Senate. Of course, being a dictator I don't really need a Senate, but it's nice to have. As long as they know that anything they decide can get shit-canned by me, then it's all good. Not Bush though. And definitely not T.rump. I would pass a law that no-one in the Bush/T.rump family is ever allowed to enter politics ever again. I'd make 0bama the President again so he could be the American Senator, cuz I liked him.  It goes without saying that I'd first pass all sorts of Youth Rights laws. Every age-based law would be abolished and replaced by laws that actually make sense. For example, the driving age would get axed and be replaced by a more rigorous driving test. In fact, we have way too many stupid drivers out there as it is, so the WHOLE driving test would have to be retaken by everyone. I would bring back beheading as the favorite execution style. Lethal Injections are for pussies. What the fuck is scary about getting a shot that puts you to sleep? Fuck no, if you did something bad enough that you deserve to die, you're gonna lose your head, bitch! Murderers get the death penalty, period. No life imprisonments for assholes who kill people. You kill someone, you die, that's all. (Note: DP would however only occur with a substantial amount of concrete evidence) Rapists get the death penalty. If she said no, then it's NO, motherfucker.  If you beat your kids, you get put in chains in the middle of Times Square and people can pay $1 for one punch or kick. The beatings stop when someone draws blood (cuz we don't wanna kill your ass). On the 3rd offense, an angry mob gets to beat your ass into a coma. If you come out of it, your kids can decide whether you should live or die. If you molest a kid, whatever part of your body touched them gets painted with acid. Then you go to the chopping block! If you steal from someone, you lose your rights and freedom for 1 year and become your victim's endentured servant. On the 3rd offense, you will work until you have paid for 10 times the value of the item stolen or for 5 years, whichever comes first. Marijuana is legal in Salt’s World. It will be tightly regulated and heavily taxed, because if you're gonna be a pothead, you're gonna fucking pay for it. Growing your own shit or selling it without a license will be considered stealing from the government and you get the punishment for theft (see above). Drunk drivers get no chances. First offense of drunk driving means you lose your license for life, in theory. I say "in theory" because it will work sort of like a life sentence in prison works. You can be brought up for "parole" and a committee will assess whether you deserve to get your license back. Such assessments will occur once every 10 years. If you beat your wife, I annul your marriage and place a restraining order against you. I don't care if she gives me that brainwashed crying bullshit "but he loves me, he didn't mean it, really he doesn't abuse me." You hit her, you lose her, and that's final. I will have my government scientists figure out an alternative to abortion that everyone can live with. Preferably, I'd like to see us be able to remove an embryo and continue to grow it in a lab. People who're trying to adopt always want babies and they always have to wait years for one. Not anymore. Furthermore, it seems that adoption is frowned upon due to it being so difficult to get approved and those who do get approved have a predisposition for choosing pretty, white INFANTS. Under my control, a new process will be drawn up to make it not only easier to adopt regardless of sexuality, marital status, etc but make it so that people don’t get to “select” which child they want. First come, first given, end of story. If you really want a child, you wouldn’t be that gdamn picky anyway. If you don’t want your child, that’s fine and well. We will literally take it out of your stomach (same concept as aborting) and grow it for you. Real abortions will only be allowed if a health risk to either mother or child comes up. This is how I would attempt to find middle ground, a compromise if you will. My government will fund cloning research. I want to be able to clone stem cells and body parts. If this can be done, maybe sick and dying patients won't have to wait year after year for suitable donors. In a world where everyone is part of the same government, there's not much need for massive armies. A global police force will be instituted as the next step above Federal officers. So, it would go, local cops, state cops, federal cops, global cops. Without an army to feed, clothe, etc. a shitload of money would be freed up to make people's lives better. There won't be anymore fucking hunger in my world. Every single farm worldwide will be required by law to give 5% of their yearly output to the government for distribution to the poor. They will, of course, receive a humongous tax break for doing this and any farm that voluntarily gives in excess of 15% will pay no taxes at all. Yes, I know this will make the cost of food rise globally. Too bad. You pay a dollar more for your T-bone and you can just cry about it, but at least some little Ethiopian can have some fucking potatoes that night. And in retrospect, under my administration, the percentage of poor people in the world should lower dramatically if not disappear altogether if you play your cards right. But until this global shitshow is corrected, that’s what would have to happen. Medicine will no longer be big business. All wealthy citizens under my rule will see a tax increase, which will pay for everyone's healthcare. No more private insurance companies, it's going government-issue, baby! And, by the way, under my rule the words "government issue" won't be a synonym for "piss poor." No one should be groaning about this because the minimum wage will also see an increase to an actual living wage proportional to the cost of living that will make workers and their families happy and also boost consumer sales, thus increasing the profits of businesses everywhere. The lack of insurance plans employers now have to provide for their employees will free up some of that extra cash. We're dismantling nuclear weapons and using their radioactive components as fuel. What the fuck do we need nukes for when all the world is united under one government? I will pass a law stating once and for all that all sentient life on this planet is entitled to equal treatment and protection under the law and that no law may be passed which contradicts this. Gay marriage: Legal. If you file a stupid lawsuit, we throw you in jail for 3 months. This includes suing the tobacco industry when you're the one who lit up 50 times a day for 30 years, moron. You also can't sue because you're fat. Watch what you eat and exercise if it bothers you so much! I will force Microsoft, Apple, and all those Google people to work together and create "The Uber OS." It'll run Windows programs and Mac programs (all versions) and Google programs (all flavors). All the drivers will work interchangeably. They will all be told that if the OS ever crashes, they each lose a family member! Mwahahahahaha. (kidding obvs). Every citizen will be allowed to carry a sidearm, as long as the sidearm is worn in plain view (like the old west). Every citizen carrying a gun had better remember the price they'll pay for murder. Unless it's self defense or defense of another's life, don't pull that gun! Significant resources will be diverted to build subway systems. City-wide, State-wide, Nation-wide, and World-wide systems will be built. Any system that is Interstate or beyond must be supersonic. The World-wide system must reach speeds of Mach 2 or greater (don't try standing up on the train, bitch!). The purpose of this subway network will not only be to facilitate free travel across the globe, but also to provide countless millions of new jobs that should adequately handle our planet's homelessness and unemployment problems. I should've mentioned taxes earlier, but here it is. The worldwide tax brackets will be as follows: everyone making 10k or less will owe 12% (you can omit the extra 2% with a financial hardship exemption form but it should be noted that no full-time adult worker should be making that much under my leadership so this should be doable without a person’s quality of life taking a hit), everyone making between 10,001-99,999 will owe 15%, everyone making $100k-$200k will owe 30%. Everyone over 200k will owe 50%. Surely you don't think the money for all these great improvements is just gonna fall from the sky? Recycling will become mandatory. We throw away far too much shit. Why chop down a rainforest when there's enough paper in a city dump to fill a library 10 times over?! We will also have to become far less dependent on fossil fuels. I'll work out a timetable for eventually outlawing fossil fuels in favor of electric, solar, and nuclear power. Go back to that city dump and imagine how many atoms are sitting their going to waste when we could be smashing them and reaping the benefits. Prison overcrowding? No problem! Legalizing weed and making drugs a medical issue instead of a criminal one should take care of this problem for the most part and as for the rest, well, Antarctica is just sitting there not doing a damn thing, it's time we put it to use. Remember the penal colony "Rura Penthe" from Star Trek VI? Yup, it'll be something like that. No guard towers, no fence, nothing. If you wanna escape, go ahead. You'll just freeze to death, idiot. Otherwise, you'll stay right there in prison and serve out your sentence. Imagine how many new jobs a prison that size will create? And the cost of feeding them will be negligible. They'll have giant heated greenhouses for growing everything they eat. They don't work to grow it, they don't eat. In other words, a prison sentence means you serve your time as a farmer in the middle of frozen fucking nowhere. Jon Stewart will be appointed as my press secretary. At least all my press releases will have the whole world laughing their asses off. Minimum Wage will be increased to $12.50/hr. I think Ronald McDonald can afford to buy used overhauls for a while so that his employees don't have to shop at the Salvation Army. Corruption in government would be gone. No one is allowed to spend more than $500 on their election campaigns. They can put up a fucking website and do grassroots shit. That way there's no big corporate donations and shit to deal with. Plus, politicians are gonna become like preachers: We give them a place to live and a minimal salary, that's it. No big bucks, no fancy cars, nothing. It's not gonna be about the money. All the money we cut from politicians can go to teachers, cops, firemen, etc. Y'know, the government employees who actually fucking DO something worthwhile and give back to society. Pro Athletes get capped at $90,000/yr. None of this being a rich bastard because you play a fucking game. Maybe then, only people who LOVE the sport and DON'T corrupt it will find their way in. Just like with the politicians, when it's not about the money only people who actually give a fuck will want the job. Ninety grand a year is still a damn good salary. It's not like they'll be poor. The RIAA and MPAA will be told once and for all to shut the fuck up about Peer-to-Peer. They should've jumped on the bandwagon when it got rolling, now they can just suck it up. By the way, musicians and actors are capped at $60,000/yr. They can still have the royalties on their music, movies, concerts, commercial deals, etc. Wouldn't be fair to take that away from them. However, the industry will still be encouraged to develop better copyright protection methods so that all the true geeks can still enjoy the immense thrill of breaking a copyright protection scheme only days after it's implemented. They've gotta have something to do on a dateless Saturday night. Wouldn't want to rob them of that. We'll be having a government-sponsored betting pool on how long it takes the industry to figure out that copyright protection is fucking useless (they spend years developing some new state-of-the-art system and once it's released, a 13yo breaks it in 2 days... get a clue). SPAM will be made illegal! The punishment for spamming is 5 years in the Antarctic Prison Colony! I think that just about covers the basics. Of course, I could probably go on all fucking night with this shit, but if I kept going I'd never get this rant posted. Just know that there's like a billion more cool things I'd do. I might just have to make a sequel to this rant. Until then....... Salt for president 2020.

Keep Calm and Work Hard: The Story of Binance’s CEO From A to CZ
Keep Calm and Work Hard: The Story of Binance’s CEO From A to CZ:
Changpeng Zhao is ranked #1 in the first-ever Cointelegraph Top 100 in crypto and blockchain.

Why Your Budget Doesn’t Have to Be as Detailed as You Think
Tumblr media
Many individuals don't think about"budget" as anything but a lousy word. After all, the notion of budgeting probably makes you consider breaking down, being rigorous on paying, and missing out on the interesting things that only happens to price money.
The matter is, being very restrictive can cover off. The more you lower your spending, the further you are going to have to save and spend. And that is the end goal, right?
Yes, but be cautious. Budgets are similar to diets: the more restrictive you're, the more likely you will rebel. An overly rigorous budget may be the very reason you inhale an whole box of donuts if you happen upon them at the workplace, or totally dismiss way too much cash on an online shopping spree.
Even though you know that it's not great for you, it is difficult to resist after you have been deprived. So can there be a better approach to budget which does not leave you feeling dizzy, while allowing you to save enough and invest sensibly?
The answer is yes, and it is about producing something balanced and sustainable. This is why you want to do it, and the way.
Why Your Strict, Detailed Budget Doesn't Work I think budgets are strong, but there is a much better approach to use a funding than as a means to seriously limit yourself and everything you could do with your own money.
Even in the event that you believe you can"tough it out" or think your fiscal goals will keep you motivated to prevent temptation, there is an whole mountain of study about this type of thing. Specifically, studies show:
We have as much willpower to utilize, and finally, we will run out. Decision exhaustion is real (meaningthe more choices we must make the worse we receive in creating them, which may explain some cash mistakes you may have made previously ). Humans are not very good at handling temptation. This tells us a few matters. Number 1, willpower is not enough. You are able to set strict budgets whatever you need, but it is most likely not going to do much good because finally you will crack (we do).
We operate from willpower, we create a lot of choices and begin making terrible ones -- and we believe tired the longer we attempt to resist temptation (and since we are tired we create even worse conclusions; it is a vicious cycle!) .
Life Doesn't Fit Neatly Into Tightly Defined Spending Categories Ever noticed a sample budget which stands out"$20 for toiletries,""$50 for alcohol,""$150 for groceries,""$100 for transportation," and on and on and on?
Budgets using a thousand line items are supposed to catch every potential cost so nothing slips through the cracks. The issue? Life does not organize itself to fit neatly inside these carefully arranged categories of spending.
Some weeks you may spend $300 on grocery store, and also the upcoming few months you could spend half . 1 month you could hit the street a bit more and see that the sum of money spent on gasoline move up, but a couple of months after you end up biking, walking, or riding public transport everywhere so that your transport expenses are alongside $0.
You may find you invest $50 a month on average on some thing, but that may appear different month-to-month -- and also you could drive yourself mad trying to match that particular cost within that ordinary price over and over again.
That may make rigorous budgeting unrealistic... and can leave you truly feel frustrated with the entire procedure and prepared to give up.
But before you throw your hands up, think about this: suppose that your budget could get the job done for you without being super strict?
How to Budget at a Way That Won't Make You Crazy Here's 1 method to budget in a means that is more balanced -- and much more realistic if you would like to stay with it .
First, be aware of how much money comes in each month. This can be out of your income resources (probably your pay check or earnings by a company ).
Then, ascertain how much you will pay yourself . Account for things such as:
Your retirement savings in tax-advantaged vehicles such as 401(k)s and IRAs Other investments, such as, for instance, a broker account Cash savings, such as a crisis fund.
Other special savings targets, such as, for instance, a fund for traveling, a marriage, or home payment.
Set up automatic donations to those accounts so that you do not have any explanations for paying that money rather than saving it. Then determine what is left once you account for your savings.
Got this amount? Great. That is just how much you can spend during the remainder of the month, on anything you desire.
That will comprise fixed and flexible expenses, including rent and markets. However, in addition, it can include anything that makes you happy every month, whether that is traveling, fine dishes out, or even a couple of new things on your wardrobe.
As long as you take good care of your savings and pay your invoices and mandatory expenses, you do not need to rigorously allocate each other dollar and penny. You're able to spend with the cash you've left (but after it is gone, naturally, it has gone!)
This permits you to invest on what is important without worrying if you moved"over" at a specific budget class (because you will probably spend less or nothing whatsoever in different classes which may be more significant to somebody else but you don't appreciate as much).
The most important thing? Budgeting does not have to be too complex or super stringent.
Use yours in order of what you want to save and spend and what bills you want to pay -- but beyond this, do not stress yourself out trying to select the exact amount you could spend on Amazon this month and hauling to it.
Your financial plan can help you determine where your money goes, and allow you to determine ways to cut back in 1 area to generate space for something else -- should you choose.
The fantastic thing about a detailed budget is the fact that it provides additional space for liberty to devote the way you truly want.

Bose, Sony, Beats, and JBL top our list
New Post has been published on https://idealz.cloud/2018/07/10/bose-sony-beats-and-jbl-top-our-list/
Bose, Sony, Beats, and JBL top our list
There is one frustrating truth about our modern, digital age: Wires are annoying.
As more of us are trying to end cable clutter, may we suggest you go the wireless route for your headphones too? It’s an approach being taken in every aspect of consumer tech, from computer setups to home theater systems. Headphones are proving to be no different.
More and more companies are releasing headphones that don’t require any auxiliary inputs to output audio. And since many smart devices are eliminating the number of input ports they include (we’re looking at your, iPhone), this makes sense.
But with all the wireless headphones available on the market, it can be hard figuring out which work best for you. Luckily, we’ve found some of the best earbuds and over-the-ear headphones on Amazon that deliver, regardless of your lifestyle.
Here are X of the best wireless headphones, according to what reviewers on Amazon had to say:
Best earbud-style wireless headphones
Earbuds are the headphones to look at if you’re more active. From sweat resistant design to recharging cases, earbuds have been able to pack high quality sound into a considerably smaller package. These are our picks for some of the best:
Of all the companies in the audio space, Bose has established itself as one of the best. From personal speakers to full audio systems, Bose has become synonymous with excellent sound. That quality is present in Bose headphones as well, and the Bose SoundSport Wireless earbuds are an example of the Bose quality in a small package.
The SoundSport Wireless headphones are the type of headset that can work for anyone because of their design. As standalone headphones, the SoundSports provide high quality audio that you’d expect out of a Bose product. But if you’re a runner or just like to hit the gym, the SoundSports are ideal for working out. The SoundSports are sweat-resistant and designed to stay in the ear during intense workouts.
Amazon customer Rae praised the SoundSport headphones in their review, saying:
“I have been using these headphones every day for almost 5 months now and they work just as well as the day I received them. Making the switch to the iPhone 7, I didn’t want to have to carry around the lightning to 3.5mm headphone dongle everywhere if I lost the Apple lightning headphones so I decided to make the jump and purchase some wireless headphones. I never liked the idea of the fully wireless ones (i.e. those that look like Bluetooth earpieces) so these were perfect for me.
I work a desk job that allows me to listen to music while I work so these are in my ears all day every day. They are very comfortable; I’ve used some headphones that have irritated my ears after a few hours but I’ll wear these at work and again when I’m working out. They stay in place even while running – I think is thanks to the design of the ear pieces. While at work I’ll use one side at a time and leave the other side draped over my shoulder. There are no issues with this as long as you use the provided clip that connect directly to cord. I recently broke this clip due to my own clumsiness and every once in awhile I need to adjust how it is draped so that it does not pull too tightly but it isn’t anything that isn’t manageable.
Battery life is exactly what I would expect for Bluetooth headphones. I get approximately 3-5 days use between charges. That is with me using these headphones for about 9 hours every day. I did not purchase the pair with the charging case so these charge via USB. I’ll plug them in when I get down to about 30% battery life (which the headphones conveniently tell you in-ear when you turn them on) and I’ll have a full charge in about an hour or so. They also come with a small case that is perfect to throw in your bag when you’re on the go.”
True wireless earbuds — as in the kind that don’t even have a wire connecting the ‘buds to each other — are becoming more popular within the space, and its not hard to see why. While having the link cable on the earbuds is definitely useful, it can still cause some annoyance, especially while working out. If that’s how you feel, Jabra has the set for you.
The Jabra Elite Active 65t are the ideal type of earbuds for the most active people out there. The earbuds provide quality sound and can take calls, despite the lack of any connective cord between the earbuds. The Jabra Sound+ app allows you to adjust noise filters and enable a voice assistant (like Alexa), plus the built-in accelerometer in the earbuds allows you to keep track of your workout as well.
Currently, 50% of users have given the Elite Active 65t five stars on Amazon, so the earbuds definitely deliver. Steven Bassett attests to the Jabra earbuds, saying:
“I have to give the Jabra 65t 5stars. I have no Quams doing it either. These wireless ear buds have superior sound quality and with the EQ customizing sound to your choice is a pleasure. Very easy to set up and bind via Bluetooth. Volume control and on off control are readily accessible. It takes a bit of practice to use the buttons but I found I was using the buttons in a few hours. It’s great to have everything from volume to battery level all accessible via two buttons!”
If you’re in the market for a pair of wireless earbuds but you don’t want to pay a whole lot, fear not. There are plenty of options that deliver quality at a lower price point.
The SoundPEATS 4.1 earbuds are excellent headphones for anyone shopping on a budget. They are able to deliver great sound and are able to last eight hours on a single charge, which is definitely better than most around this price. Choose from colors like the classic black or white straps, or get playful with the blue or red pair.
A volume control button allows you to quickly adjust the volume or answer phone calls, all while keeping your phone in your pocket. Included are four pairs of ultra soft ear tips and three pairs of ear fins, so you’ll have plenty of options when it comes to finding a comfortable fit. When they’re not in use, a magnet keeps the earbuds connected and will protect the strap from knotting.
Wesley Leong is among the 57% of Amazon users who gave the earbuds five stars. Read Leong’s review here:
“They are a great product and the headphones have a decent sound for the price. They are easy to pair to your device and work well. I love that they have an 8 hour battery life. The headphones have a nice volume control feature. I like being able to change the volume and pause or play on the headphones and not have to use my phone. The one thing that I wish they would add is a feature to have multiple devices paired to the headphones. It is really nice being able to use a pair of headphone with the stupid newer iPhones because they do not have a headphone jack. If you use your phone a lot like I do your battery runs out very quickly. The best option at least for me was to buy an external battery case. Unfortunately, I have gotten 3 to 4 Battery cases and I have been unsuccessful using my Apple headphones that were packaged with the phone. This means I need to bring around 2 pairs of headphones and this simplifies it so much. Thank you for these great headphones. I love that they have a magnet because I can leave it on my neck or in its pouch and I won’t lose it as easily. These headphones are very good and I would definitely recommend them.”
The Tranya earbuds are competitively priced at less than $50, but still have the deep bass and clear treble you’re looking for in a pair of wireless headphones.
The small earbuds pack in the features that you’d expect from these earplug style wireless headphones, like Bluetooth connectivity and a durable body design. These earbuds don’t try to do anything crazy or have a gimmick, and that’s definitely a good thing.
One a full charge, you’ll get 3-4 hours of playback, though the handy carrying case is also an external charger and can help you get another four additional charges out of it. (A battery indictor will show you where you’re at.) When the headphones are removed from the case, they automatically turn on and connect to your phone.
A sensitive antenna within the headphones mean you can use them up to 33 feet away from your smartphone, meaning you can leave your phone in your gym back without losing playback.
Some 74% of people have awarded the Tranya Sports Wireless Earbuds a five star review on Amazon. AngelaB is one such user, saying:
“Those are one of my favorite earbuds. The shape and the size is perfect, they don’t move at all while I’m running. They sit perfect and sometimes I even forget I got them on since they are so comfortable. The sound quality is very good, even when I change different locations in the building where I work. Sound is very clear and controls are intuitive and simple. The charging is very fast and the battery last for couple good hours.. I just love them !! It worth every penny!!”
Best over-the-ear wireless headphones
Maybe you want to put on some music and zone out while you travel or work. Or maybe you want to crank up the power and get lost in some heavy beats, or become completely immersed in an audiobook or podcast. Or perhaps you just want to send a clear message to the world that you’d rather be left alone, thank you very much. No matter what category you fall into, over-the-ear headphones might be perfect for you. Here are our favorites.
There are plenty of options from Bose for over-the-ear headphones that are sure to delight. If you’re looking for one of the absolute best, the QuietComforts are the ones to look at.
The QuietComfort 35 Series II headphones are one of the best headsets available from Bose currently on the market. These beauties can last up to 20 hours on a single charge, making them ideal for cross country air travel or blocking out noisy coworkers. Obviously, since its a Bose product, the sound quality is going to deliver. When paired with the Bose Connect app, the settings can be personalized, so you can decide just how much outside noise you want to let in. The app will also allow you to activate Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa so you can get notifications, news, and more sent right to your ears.
The headphones come with an included jack so you can use these on devices where Bluetooth connectivity isn’t offered or for when the charge is running low.
Some 66% of users on Amazon have given the QuietComfort five stars, so they definitely live up to the Bose brand name. Jordan T.’s review of the headphones make that clear:
“These headphones are amazing! I might have been perfectly satisfied with the first version of the QC35s, but I luckily stumbled on the second generation which includes the Google Assistant integration. I initially thought it would be a small bonus, but I totally underestimated how powerful and convenient this could be. It’s more than just a trigger for voice commands. It’s a surprisingly flawless implementation that allows Google Assistant to turn you into much more productive multi-tasker.”
Meanwhile, Mashable’s Jake Krol had this to say about the QuietComfort 35 Series II headphones by Bose:
“Overall sound is well balanced. Even with the volume at its highest (ouch!), I couldn’t detect any distortion. Music of all genres, like rock or pop, come across clear and just as the artists intended. High tones and low tones were both crisp, and the bass wasn’t too overbearing. EDM fans might not love the balance, as the bass doesn’t necessarily get a tremendous boost.”
Read the full review on Mashable here.
While Bose is definitely one of the best name brands, Beats by Dre is giving them some competition. Beats exploded in popularity when the brand first hit the market, which only grew when it was purchased by Apple. That hasn’t slowed the company down, as it still puts put some of the most popular headphones available.
The Beats Studio3 headphones have continued that trend with a quality wireless headset, thanks to some smart additions from Apple. The biggest is the W1 chip, which boosts the Studio3’s Bluetooth and battery performance. The Bluetooth improvements allow for a smoother connection, so there shouldn’t be any signal drops.
The battery will last you about 22 hours and can be recharged in about 10 minutes, which much quicker than most other headsets. Adaptive noice cancelling technology helps quiet the outside world, while audio calibration keeps things clear.
If that’s not enough, see any of the 64% of Amazon reviews that rated the Studio3 at five stars. Jennifer Segars said this about the Studio3 headphones:
I had the solo 3 wireless previously. They would fall off my head and hurt my ears after about an hour. Not these! Love the over the ear fit! They don’t slide at the gym and fit great! I’m at the gym each time for 1.5 hours and they last a little over a week on a full charge. Not bad at all.
Sony has always been a big player in the audio game, with lots of options on the market. Tt only makes sense that Sony would have a good selection of headphones. Among those on the market, the H900N headphones are definitely one of the best.
Available in black, grey, and red, the H900N headphones are on par with the Studio3 and QuietComfort. They includes features like noise cancellation, audio upscaling, and app controls, all of which seem to be standard for high-end headphones like these.
One major advantage that the H900N headphones have over the other headsets is the battery life. At full charge, the headphones can last up to 28 hours, which is a big jump from 20 or 22 hours.
Ryan is among the 67% of Amazon users that gave the Sony H900N five stars. Here’s what Ryan had to say in their review:
“Easily the best headphones to have ever adorned these ears. Such a nice even and detailed frequency spread. The touch controls on the right cup are excellent and responsive. The noise cancelling works as advertised. I use these to workout in a loud gym at least three times a week, and the difference between noise cancellation on and off is dramatic in the best possible way.”
Though we’d all love to have headphones that are almost $300, sometimes that high price tag just isn’t feasible. If you’re one of those people who just “cant have nice things, fear not. Sony has a set of headphones for all the penny pinchers out there.
If you’re trying to save a few dollars, the Sony MDRXB950BT headset is a great option. The headphones provide better than expected sound quality to some other headphones at that price point. They can last for some 20 hours of use on a single charge, which is on par with some headphones that cost $200 or more.
Available in red, blue, and black, the MDRXB950BT headphones have a five star rating from 62% of Amazon customers. Kristopher Clouden is one of the users, saying:
“Opened the box and actually had to read the instructions due to all the options. It sounds GLORIOUS! Set to to high sound priority (Power on while pressing vol up) and enjoy top quality BT streaming. The cups are super comfortable. The arch at the top of the head, not so much. It might just be my pointy head. Going back to the cups, lots of cushion that seal out the outside world even without active noise cancelling. I’ll update this after the initial break-in, but as far as sound quality it’s top notch without the bass boost. I save that for deep bass songs, where it really shines. Yes it sounds much better than beats Studio, Solo, and the rest of the lineup for a better price. They are HUGE, but if you haver a big ol head then you’ll be fine. The hardest decision for me was which color to get. I settled on black, since it’s universally neutral. The Red looks great in person btw. Definitely worth the pick up.”
As one of the oldest names in the audio space, JBL has some excellent options available.
The JBL E55BT headphones are on the affordable end of JBL’s options but still deliver the performance you want. One way it does is through “multi-tasking,” which allows for the E55BT to easily switch between two devices seamlessly, depending on what you’re doing.
This particular headset was also co-designed and endorsed by Quincy Jones, one of music’s greatest producers. (That’s why they’re the “Quincy Edition.”) This is the man who has produced albums and songs with the likes of Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, and Aretha Franklin, so we totally trust his judgement.
In case Quincy Jones’s name isn’t enough, there’s the 74% of reviewers on Amazon that gave the E55BT five stars. David Stewart said in his review:
“I took the risk and bought a pair. Came within a few days and they sound amazing. Charger chord is longer then most. Comes with a nice carrier bag. The headphones itself is a little smaller then usual (I have to have them fully extended for use) but in all in all- They are some durable headphones.”
We just love JBL so much, we had to include another pair on this list.
The Everest 710, much like the other high end headphones listed, deliver the high quality audio that one would expect from the price tag alone. But it’s the included features that really help these headphones stand out. The biggest is the ShareMe 2.0, which allows you to connect with friends over Bluetooth to share music with them. They also have one of the better charge times, only taking two hours to get a good charge.
If you need a little more convincing, check out the Amazon reviews. Currently, the Everest 710 has received five stars from 72% of users, so JBL definitely delivered with these headphones.
Here’s what Amazon reviewer Alison916 had to say:
“I own several JBL products & each of them are of the highest quality, built to last & are worthy of me spending my hard earned money on. All important to me when deciding on which brand I should choose. When it comes to the JBL Everest 710 wireless over-the-ear headphones they did not disappoint. They met all my basic headphone needs and more. The case provided to store them in was attractive and provided adequate protection.”

Why are there not provisions in the ACA that put caps on how much health insurance premiums can increase?
I just bought into a health insurance policy as I work 2 part time jobs and get no benefits in those jobs. Now my health insurance provider is saying my health insurance premiums will increase by 50% with higher deductibles and higher out of pocket maximums. This will put a strain on my finance as I can barely afford what I have now and having a $1500 increase really hurt. Why did this ACA not have something to cap these outrageous premium increases plus benefit decreases? It seems to be making it unaffordable rather than affordable.

If we cancel, the premium will be calculated in proportion to the period of cover provided and we will refund any excess premium which you have paid when the Certificate of Motor Insurance has been returned to us As I have had the policy for 4 months how much will I have to pay to cancel (even the the whole process was not my fault!).just want to buy a new car and insure with somebody else! How to get the best damage offer from insurance company ?
I am a university student in Toronto(Canada). I saved up $5,000 and bought myself a car in 2006 -- a 1991 white Acura Legend in excellent condition with only 140,000 km. No major repairs were required up to now. I T-boned a car which was making a left turn this Saturday; my car is now totalled. The other driver will be charged by the police with making an improper left turn. I only took out liability coverage (no collision coverage); my own insurance comp is offering me $1900 for my damaged car, but I would like $2500 as the loss of my car is totally not my fault. Do you need to be enrolled in school to stay covered under your parents health insurance? Affordable Care Act?
So here's the question in case you don't want to read my wall of text below (but it would be appreciated if you did to further understand my question). I was covered under my moms health insurance while in college and I was told I needed to be enrolled in school to stay covered, I dropped out a while ago and was wondering if I am still covered by law under the Affordable Care Act since I am only 19. I was covered under my mothers health insurance, she works for a private company and she said that I needed to be enrolled in school in order to stay covered by the insurance. But this was close to a year ago if I'm remembering correctly. The reason I'm worried is because I'm taking a break from college, and have had multiple doctor appointments/tests done after I left, but I never had a problem with the insurance going through. I've made myself paranoid into thinking that the company may just not know, and is assuming I'm still in school and will randomly hit me with the costs of the testings and doctor visits if they saw I was not in school, or god forbid somewhere down the road my mother or I are in a serious accident and are dropped because of this. I know this happens all the time, the insurance agencies have people hired to find abnormalities in your history in an attempt to drop you and not have to pay the bills. So would I still be covered under my mothers health insurance even though I'm not currently enrolled in school under the Affordable Care Act? Once again I am 19 also. Thank you""

Can car insurance companies discover speed camera tickets?
Long story short: Do I need to tell the car insurance companies about speed camera tickets I received? I read that lying to car insurance companies is a good way to get your insurance canceled, or claim denied. I know that they check what you say on the application. If these were regular speeding tickets, I would have no question that they need to be reported, because it's on my record. But these are from a speed camera. The citation says it cannot be used to increase my car insurance rates, and that it will not add points to my record. All my friends say they don't report it. Despite that, Travelers said these do count, and denied providing a quote because I have had three speed camera tickets in the past three years. Is this information even present on my driver's record? Is this something they can verify? More importantly, could they deny a claim I make for failing to tell them about these tickets?""
Auto Insurance?
Can a person have auto insurance in one state but live in another?
Rental car insurance -- what does it cover?
We are going to Vegas in a few days and are renting a car. Since this car is going to be in and out of parking garages, I think it's a good idea to buy the rental car insurance @ $ 10.99 a day. Say while the car is in the parking garage and someone scratches or dings the door, would this insurance cover it? That's all I'm really worried about.""

I realize this was the dumbest decision me and my buddy have made in our lives. Trust me I dont want to be near a vehicle for a while. I have lost my license for only 90 days, the cops were very respectable about, and did not criminally charge me, although they were good at scaring the **** out of me. It will also cost me 500$ to get my license back after the 90 days, and my car has been impounded for 30 :(. I live in British Columbia, Canada and the car I was in is my parents and I am registered under them. Again, I feel ******* terrible about it and glad I didnt injure anyone, especially someone not in my vehicle.""
What Texas insurance company covers composition over wood shake shingles?

I have a major carrier, but I've heard there are insurance companies that refuse to insure these roofs these days. I'd like to know for sure what insurance companies I can say cover these roofs. I am in Dallas, Texas, so it should be a company that is in Texas. Thanks so much for your help!""
What kind of car details will lower the cost of insurance?
I have to buy a car and the insurance will be costing more than the actual car. Some factors I can't change like the fact it will be my first year with a full GB licence, my gender, age, where I park it, etc. But when considering the car I will buy, what factors might lower my insurance costs? Keeping in mind my price range for the car is 450-900 pounds, - what makes/models are hardest/easiest to break into? - what security devices would make a difference to the cost of my insurance, and how much would they cost? - what year of car is considered to be built more securely than in the past? (harder to break into...I understand older cars are easier to break into, but what is the general cut-off line of old ?) - style or colour of car? - any other factors?""
How can I fight to get more money out of my car insurance company?
We bought a 2011 Lancer on Dec 8th 2010. On Dec 27th 2010, we slid off the road in a blizzard, but the car was not damaged AT ALL. The car was parked and only had our pets and christmas gifts from the holidays. An idiot speeding in a snow storm made a b-line into our car. Both ours and their insurance determined the car totaled and the other driver was found at fault by his insurance company. We did have GAP coverage (which will NEVER happen again). The car was 19 days owned and we believe we should get MSRP for our car. Does anyone know if this is reasonable? I think we pay so much every month and therefore are entitled to be in the same position financially as we were before the accident. (Also, we had stuff : a rifle, our pets, their crate that got damaged. We were wondering if that and the out-of-pocket rental car expenses should be covered... seeing that it was in direct relation to the car accident, that was his fault.)""

Need Advise On Car Insurance?
On Friday Fed. 12th I bought Me a good Used car. I had to park on the side of the street cause my neighbors from downstairs had company and were in my spot. when I woke up on Saturday morning my car was wrecked in the front and the other vehicle no where in site well except for the trail of car fluids that led to his car three blocks away. the police came got his info and mine, towed his vehicle, advised me what I needed to do and left. I found out on my own that the insurance that the police had was false info. I was pissed. Well low and behold the owner of the car came to my house that same evening and was like my car was stolen and all this other bs. He gave me his correct insurance papers and said he would report it to claims. He never did I had to on Tuesday. His insurance knew nothing of the matter. I filed my claim with them and they said it would be 24 to 48 hours and they would get in contact with me. Nothing yet.. Im still waiting for them to call me. What should I do now???????????""

Which insurance will pay the benefactor the most amount of money in the shortest span of time?
If you're a failure and you've decided to take out insurance naming your mother as the benefactor: 1. How long do you have to wait before you kill yourself for the insurance to be valid 2. Which insurance gives the most amount of money after you die. There's no other way. Parents should be able to retire rich and happy and not have to worry about their kid being a failure all the time.

Crowdsourced car insurance company? Would you join?
If I were to set-up a crowdsourced car insurance company would you be interested in joining? I appreciate how much money is required when starting a car insurance company but I seriously think that with a concentrated effort and a crowdsourced company then we could beat the large companies at there own game. The way I envisaged it working was that the idea attracts as many people as possible and each person pays a membership fee. In return for the fee the person gets a share in the company with certain voting rights. The share doesnt entitle you to free insurance, but seriously reduced in price. Insurance policies are only available to members, the main benefit being to keep insurance costs down people would hopefully be less likely to claim. When the company generates profits, those profits would go into a pot and at the end of the year the pot would be sent out to members in the form of dividends. Anyone interested?""

Is it Bad to Let Your Car Insurance Run Out Temporarily?

Will a written warning increase my insurance rates?
A couple of months ago I got pulled over doing a 37 in a 25. The cop was nie and let me go with a WRITTEN warning. Weeks later someone totaled my car while it was parked. I recently got a new car and the 1st payment was only $120 something and that was ear our estimated quote, but for the past 2 payments the price has been over $200 dollars and my mother is convinced that my insurance company saw the WRITTEN warning and thats why my rates went up. Is it true that this thing can happen? From my research and understanding insurance companies don't hardly ever do this and thats why is was a warning. The major reason I am concerned is I am interested in buying a Dodge SRT-4 sometime and insurance is very high especially for someone under 21 and 25, and I probably wouldn't be able to afford the insurance payment because they would be as high enough without the warning. We plan on calling EMC insurance after they open either today or tomorrow.""

All or five of the question prompts
You got it! (It’ll be under the read more so I won’t kill anybody else’s timeline.)
1. Who was the last person you held hands with? - My girlfriend from like… 2009-ish… I think? Yeah. That sounds about right. Although the girl I was last in a relationship with most more that likely would have, but she lived in Florida, and we broke up before we ever got to meet each other.
2. Are you outgoing or shy? - Shy. Very, very shy.
3. Who are you looking forward to seeing? - My brother when he gets back from college for his summer break. I wanna hang out with him as much as I can for his summer break.
4. Are you easy to get along with? - I feel like I can be depending on how I’m feeling. If I’m in an entirely different mood, like if I’m upset or if I’m just not feeling sociable I’m probably hard to get along with.
5. If you were drunk would the person you like take care of you? - There’s nobody I’m interested in atm, so I’d be all by my lonesome~
6. What kind of people are you attracted to? - Someone who’s nice, and caring, and supportive. Basically someone who’s nice, haha.
7. Do you think you’ll be in a relationship two months from now? - Probably not.
8. Who from the opposite gender is on your mind? - Nobody.
9. Does talking about sex make you uncomfortable? - Nope! I’m absolutely fine with talking about sex.
10. Who was the last person you had a deep conversation with? - I honestly can’t remember. Its been a long time since I’ve had a really good conversation with someone.
11. What does the most recent text that you sent say? - It’s a link from my mom that has to do with companies that will help pay off student loans, haha. If that isn’t indicative of my being in debt, I don’t know what is, haha
12. What are your 5 favorite songs right now? - ‘Death Cup’ by Mom Jeans five times over.
13. Do you like it when people play with your hair? - I’ve never had that happen before, but I imagine it must feel nice.
14. Do you believe in luck and miracles? - Nah.
15. What good thing happened this summer? - I saw Brand New, but that was like, after the summer… so, I guess nothing good really happened this summer, haha. I got really depressed around August, and it lasted ‘til the new year, so like… uhhhh, yeah, nothing really, haha. Except for maybe some S’awesome Bros. funtimes. That was fun.
16. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again? - Nope.
17. Do you think there is life on other planets? - I don’t think so, but we could probably colonize planets for there to be life on. It’d just… take a while, haha
18. Do you still talk to your first crush? - Nope.
19. Do you like bubble baths? - I haven’t had a bubble bath since I was a kid… buuuuuuut, who knows, it might be fun to try it again, haha
20. Do you like your neighbors? - I honestly don’t talk much to my neighbors. I’m a terrible person.
21. What are you bad habits? - I have terrible posture whenever I sit down in my chair. Absolutely TERRIBLE I TELLS YA
22. Where would you like to travel? - I’d love to travel! I’d be down to travel pretty much everywhere! I wanna see more of the US, and maybe take a trip up to Canada one of these days~
23. Do you have trust issues? - Kind of, yeah.
24. Favorite part of your daily routine? - Daily… routine…?
25. What part of your body are you most uncomfortable with? - Like… the whole thing.
26. What do you do when you wake up? - If its when I have to work, I’ll wake up, brush my teeth, check my hair to see if it looks acceptable, and then roll on out to work. If I don’t work, I’ll sleep in ‘til whenever, make myself some breakfast, and then see where the day leads me!
27. Do you wish your skin was lighter or darker? - I’m perfectly content with the color of my skin.
28. Who are you most comfortable around? - I don’t know! People who are easy going and are easy to talk to, I guess, but that’s probably just a vague description of just about anyone you could put a name to a face to, ya know? Haha.
29. Have any of your ex’s told you they regret breaking up? - Nope.
30. Do you ever want to get married? - I’d just like to be able to be comfortable around a woman for once in my life.

36. Have you ever liked someone and never told them? - Yes. #socialanxietyproblems
37. What do you say during awkward silences? - I’d probably just ask a question. Asking questions is always a good way to get to know somebody.
38. Describe your dream girl/guy? - I really just want someone I connect with. Someone who can be my friend. ‘Cause deep down that’s all I really want.
39. What are your favorite stores to shop in? - I looooooove Meijer. I go to Meijer all the time.
40. What do you want to do after high school? - I’ve been done with high school for like… nine years, haha. I’ve been trying to find a more secure job. It’s something I’ve been doing this year alongside bettering my mental health. Is taken up a lot of my focus, but I still have been trying to do creative things. I wanna get back into making videos sometime this year, and I wanna write a full length album. I don’t know when that all will happen, but hopefully it will soon!
41. Do you believe everyone deserves a second chance? - It depends on what they did.
42. If your being extremely quiet what does it mean? - That my social anxiety is kicking in something FIERCE
43. Do you smile at strangers? - I try to!
44. Trip to outer space or bottom of the ocean? - OUTER SPACE. THE OCEAN IS SO FUCKING SCARY. I MEAN, SPACE IS KIND OF SCARY, TOO, BUT LIKE, AS LONG AS I WAS ORBITING EARTH I’D BE OKAY.
45. What makes you get out of bed in the morning? - Knowing that I can make my life better.
46. What are you paranoid about? - Soooooooo many things, haha.
47. Have you ever been high? - Nope. I wouldn’t mind trying out marijuana, but it’s basically like, super illegal here in Indiana, so, uh, I probably won’t try it ‘til I move to someplace that at least has a medical marijuana status, haha.
48. Have you ever been drunk? - Yes. Being hungover before is awful. Thankfully I know my limits and try not to exceed them!
49. Have you done anything recently that you hope nobody finds out about? - Nope. I’m a pretty open book. If there’s something you wanna know about me I’ll tell you.
50. What was the colour of the last hoodie you wore? - It was grey! That’s probably like, the oldest hoodie I’ve ever held onto. The zipper on it is busted, but it can still zip up and down. Goddamn, that hoodie is old.
