AND I appreciate that he disliked Noctis for solid reasons. If my sister was bent on some dinky little emo kid who has the gall to respond to her notebook messages the way you're allowed to in-game, I would simply. kill him. I love Noctis. Genuinely. But from Ravus's vantage point, that dreary walking mop is a menace. ᴬᴺᴰ ʸᴱᵀ, TO HIS OWN DETRIMENT, Ravus tries to honor Lunafreya's feelings and the prophecy she believed in by acquiescing to Noctis in the end. It's so sweet. He is ALL in. And then he's dead. Caelums are not trustworthy. I extend that criticism to every last Caelum ever, not just Ardyn — can't trust ♚Noctis♚ because if you are in danger he will find a chocobo and ride it. not toward you, just, in a big circle, meandering.

Ravus had an admirable little arc that's undoubtedly 80% happenstance and 20% purposeful character building, given the unequal force with which plot rewrites smacked Ravus specifically off a cliff, so he gets extra points for being such an underdog in this story. And then there was this book Squinex let happen because their company exists in some bizarro pocket dimension where All the Bravest was a good idea that deserved to stay on the app store for t͟e͟n͟ ͟y͟e͟a͟r͟s͟, and in this book Ravus is mentioned 13 times. These mentions are, in order:

Recalling that Ravus slept soundly when he was a kid

Recalling that Ravus didn't much care for the gods

Musing that Ravus might still live with his family if not for Ardyn

Just his name followed by a full stop.

Noting that Noctis is between Ignis and Ravus on the ground

The line from Episode Ignis where Ravus asks Luna not to leave

Noting that the above line was spoken in anguish

Recalling something Ravus said to Noctis at Aracheole

Remarking that Ravus watched Luna waste her energy on Noct

Remarking for emphasis that Ravus did not like Noctis

#4: fav fic w them in it: is it crazy for me to say that i've never been fully satisfied with any fic in the mary mcdonald part of the world? i don't really ship her with anyone and i haven't seen any fics that represented her in a way that i can like or obsess about.

#20: free yap post: you know mars, you know me well enough to know that i love to yap and talk, just like mary. i'l admit that i can make huge generalizations about characters that can be different to others, but i'm mary. she is me. i am the source. alot the fics that i have read about her have depicted her as a the girl who might sleep around, be a little mean, great for talking to, and I totally get that. I wanna say she's the type to be completely brutal with her words, but delivers it manipulatively. especially in the 70s, i think people around her just understood that she was going to be opinionated and gave her the space to do that. Blending left field jazz elements with club tropes to forge something truly new, Emma-Jean Thackray's work is never less than riveting. Philadelphia punk rockers Mannequin Pussy have released the title track to Perfect, their upcoming EP due out May 21. The new song comes with a flashy music video that’s inspired by the kitschy glamor of Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, too. Musically, 'Perfect' is a distorted blaze of rock guitars that sees vocalist-guitarist Missy eviscerating the idea that people must manicure their own social media presence. “Last year, I found myself spending more time on my phone than I ever had in my life… I realized that through years of social media training, many of us have grown this deep desire to manicure our lives to look as perfect, as aspirational as possible,” explained Missy in a statement. “We want to put ourselves out there, share our lives, our stories, our day to day — and these images and videos all shout the same thing: ‘Please look at me, please tell me I’m so perfect.’ It’s simultaneously a declaration of our confidence but edged with the desperation that seeks validation from others.” In the accompanying music video, directed by Missy, viewers get to watch as a 10-year reunion at Sugarbush High slowly unravels. It opens on three former classmates, all three of whom are pregnant, dishing some hushed gossip and talking about how they want to get plastic surgery that’s so good they mistake one another for strangers. Cue two students-turned-drag queens making a grand entrance and strutting their stuff on the dance floor (mirroring the 1997 comedy classic) while old classmates gasp, shield their eyes, and panic. Following the release of her debut EP I Can’t Cry For You in December, Manchester’s Phoebe Green is back with new bop ‘IDK’. “[It] explores a complete detachment from reality, observing things from a place of total apathy and feeling as though I’m witnessing my life as a bystander with little to no connection to it,” Phoebe explains. “It’s a horrible state to be in, I think it happens when I get overwhelmed.” [via DIY]

Fast-rising French-Korean artist spill tab is unveiling her latest mesmerising single ‘Anybody Else’. Accompanied by a new vid directed by friend and collaborator Jade Sadler, spill tab says, “This song is cheesy as fuck but I love it, it’s pretty straight forward, a little shameless - the lyrics are sort of a way of expressing my love without openly saying I love you. Jade Sadler (the video director) and I just wanted to have a shit ton of fun on this one. We thought about something with narrative or plot and it was just getting to be too corny. I wanted something lighthearted and playful, so we decided we would have all of our homies in this video paired with different colors and angles and set designs. Willow Kayne has shared her debut single 'Two Seater'. The Gen Z talent links together huge opposing forces, creating her own potent brand of rebel-pop. New single 'Two Seater' finds Willow blazing a trail, upending convention through melding together differing sounds. The lush, 90s inspired soundscape leans on nostalgic impulses, but her punk-like disregard for convention is sheer pop futurism. Produced by DANIO, it finds Willow Kayne coming into her own completely off the bat. [via Clash]

BENEE has shared a video for her single ‘Happen To Me’. It’s the latest cut from her debut album, Hey u x, which arrived last November featuring guest spots from the likes of Grimes, Lily Allen and Flo Milli. “This song is super important to me,” she says. “It’s the opening track [on the album]. It’s the first song where I’ve written about anxiety. The lyrics are pretty dark. Life is pretty crazy right now, and I think it’s important to talk about this kind of stuff.” Of the video, she adds: “Stoked to be sharing this music video with everyone! I filmed it with a bunch of mates, and it was the coolest set! Hope you love it as much as I do.” [via Dork]

Los Angeles-based art-pop artist Kit Major has shared the music video for 'When the Drugs Don't Work,' a more introspective stab at her signature dark, electropop sound. Blending driving dance beats and thumping hyperpop-influenced synths, Kit Major creates an intoxicating elixir of soundbites and grit. Taking inspiration from Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, and Charlotte Lawrence, 'When the Drugs Don't Work' dives into the overwhelming vulnerability and panic of failing to curb a depressive episode with medication. With this release, Kit Major furthers her efforts to be open and make light of her mental health struggles. On the video, Kit Major shares, "'When The Drugs Don't Work' was filmed in one weekend, directed by my best friend in my departed grandparents' now empty house. We filmed this in quarantine without a crew and worked to create a dark & twisted fairytale together. When I first started thinking about the video, I knew I wanted a more lighthearted take to balance the darker theme of my mental health in the song. I wrote the lyric, “little princess hurt locked away inside her palace,” because sometimes when I'm isolated in my room I visualize myself as a Disney princess running inside her castle, instead of being in my bed, surrounded by empty water bottles. This song was written from a mix of different perspectives including my own, my persona, and outside voices. I think we accomplished the storytelling behind WTDDW by portraying the importance of imagination and trusting yourself."  Alongside, director Noël Dombroski adds, "WDDW is a raw, introspective song from Kit that shines a light on parts of herself that at times may be hard to face. Simultaneously unnerving and stimulating in a Paranormal Activity-meets Alice in Wonderland aestheticism, the music video for 'When the Drugs Don't Work' dives into the floating images of a mental breakdown with a fever dream lucidity.

Number One Popstar continues to prove herself as a powerhouse, shaking up the music world with her fresh, unapologetic beats. This week, she shares another one, her new single 'Forever 21.' And no, it’s not about clothes. 'Forever 21' begins with a kicking beat, but subdued with reflective, twinkly keys. It’s a perfect mix of existential dread and dance. Carrying this vibe throughout, it breaks in between with a beaming guitar-driven bridge. Lyrically, the track makes us question why brands and media make it seem like our twenties are our prime, when we still have our whole lives ahead of us? Despite the effervescent pop sound, Hollowell got vulnerable about her past and its effect on the song, saying, "I initially started writing 'Forever 21' when I found myself looking back on my early 20’s, wanting to recapture the hopeful and dumb feelings of my youth. But the longer I spent on the song, the more it became a reflection of the loss I faced when my parents passed away in my early 20s. I started looking at my own fear of death, of dying like them. I really didn’t know where my life was headed back then. […] I eventually turned that painful experience into a motivation to go after everything I wanted in life. To be seriously less serious, recognizing everything is fleeting.” Like her other music videos, Hollowell likes to flip popular culture and societal expetations on their head. Following in the footsteps of Prince and Lizzo, Dizzy Fae is set to become the Twin Cities’ next pop sensation. She just dropped her brand new track, 'BODY MOVE', and much like the name suggests, it will make you want to move. Self-described as alternative R&B, Fae takes a few notes from contemporary hyperpop artists like Charli XCX and Doja Cat with an industrial iciness that plays off the technicolor pop melodies. It’s an influence you can hear on 'BODY MOVE', produced by New York’s Stelios (Young Thug, SZA). The track builds itself off a snappy, rubber band bass line indebted to pop’s recent disco revival. “It’d be so cruel if I didn’t let my body move,” Fea’s voice loops through a robotic filter. A buzzing drum machines barrels in at the chorus, transforming the lightly retro groove to a futuristic club track more akin to the production styles of 100 gecs. But for all the modern influences, the Ying Yang Twins reference shows she’s a student of all types of music. [via Consequence]

Technically, 'Your Power' is not the lead single from Billie Eilish’s newly announced album Happier Than Ever. The album includes two songs she released last year: the jazzy, well received ballad 'my future' and the contemptuous multi-format radio hit 'Therefore I Am.' However, 'Your Power' is the first song Eilish has released since announcing the new album, debuting her new look, and officially commencing her LP2 era, so there’s definitely a deep sense of anticipations around the song. Eilish teased 'Your Power' this week with a brief sound snippet featuring acoustic guitar and the words “Try not to use your power” sung to a Feist-y melody. Now the full song and its Eilish-directed music video have arrived. The completed record remains as soft, pretty, and devastatingly sad as the preview audio. In the clip, a slow pan across a mountainside in the Simi Valley reveals Eilish in the clutches of a gigantic snake. (A press release specifies that it’s an 80-pound anaconda.) [via Stereogum]

Relaxing on a chaise lounge beside the delightful pool that used to be the bath of an Emperor, Carmen adjusted her dark glasses against the glare of the sun on the letter.  She was wearing only a skimpy bikini of bright red and her trademark hat.

The floating island of VILE’s headquarters was presently in the tropics and that suited her perfectly.

She skimmed through the Chineighese characters with utter familiarity.  Her brother in law, Marehem, was having the time of his life, bedeviling the ROT expedition. She was chucking at the recent double disaster with the railroad cars and flipping ROT’s truck. (He insisted on using the character of poison toadstool for them).

Done with the letter, she handed it to Blendin, who was visiting.  He was chuckling himself as his mother hit the pool.  Her hat and glasses sat on the lounge.  She was a red and khaki torpedo swimming underwater to the other end of the pool.

She shot back, underwater again, the whole length of the pool and surfaced like a one horned porpoise. “What do you think, Blendin?”

“I think that Adora would be furious if she knew but she really has no grounds to be.  She did ask Eris to see what she could do to mess up ROT’s expedition.  It was Eris’ idea to send Uncle M!  

“After all, he has had so much fun with the Empire over the ages.  Simply amazing how much chaos VILE’S temporal transport device can cause in the right hooves and his are as wrong as they can get!”  They both shared a giggle.

Baron Von Nighthoof leaned down and took Carmen’s arm, lifting her effortlessly from the pool.  He was smiling warmly at her.  He hugged her closely and stepped back a single pace.

He offered her a flat case of the darkest wood, inlaid with his cutie mark.  Carmen took the case and opened it.  Her gasp of sheer pleasure was almost more reward than the Baron expected.

He nodded, “The copy of Pharow Underrock’s Golden necklace.  It is ready to grace the only neck on this whole world that can outshine its beauty.”  He reached forward and lifted the golden wonder out of its case and set it around Carmen’s neck, pulling her close as he fastened it.

She snuggled up to him and whispered, “You are not only evil, you are wicked!  And I love it!”

Jeremy was riding in the carry saddle of Sehang Shu while they discussed his knowledge of Ethnological Geography.  After several hours, she said thoughtfully, “You actually do know more than your prior testing revealed, Jeremy.  I do wonder why you did so poorly when it came to the tests.”

Glumly, Jeremy stared out at the bleak landscape about them and replied, “It sounds like an excuse. Blame my family.  They are old Equestrian Military Service and proud of it.  When I tried to study around them, they always interrupted it.  Celestia forbid that I complain about it, either.”

“Did they not finance your education at the Royal University?”

“No, Sehang, they did not.  I was entirely dependent on grants and scholarships.  I have earned my way through my schooling.”

“I see, Jeremy.  I have earned my way also.  It is sad that such a family could not see fit to support so worthy a goal as education.

“Surely, though, with you at the University and they in Service or on the Family Estates, they had little opportunity to disrupt your studies?”

Jeremy snorted bitterly.  “I wish it was true, Sehang.  They had a nice townhouse in Canterlot, too.  They made such a career of “visiting” the U to noisily interrupt my studies that, at the end, Princess Luna, as the Chancellor of the U had to forbid them entry to the property of the University at all.

“My uncle, Colonel Broadhoof, spoke out against her interference in a family matter.  The Princess pointed out that it went beyond family, when they upset the other students’ studies.  

“He called her a pustulent creature of nightmare, to her face.”

Sehang Shu commented, “That sounds as unwise as telling the Emperor to shove one up his ass!”

Jeremy smiled a little at the humor and went on, “The suddenly Sargent Broadhoof found that out!  He was broken, forbidden any Canterlot Mustering and given a month of nightmares as punishment.”

“Bad dreams for a month is a severe punishment?”

Jeremy sucked his lips as he thought of a way to explain.  “Let me put it this way.  Somewhat over two thousand years ago, the Nightmare Wars got named that BECAUSE of Princess Luna’s use of nightmares as a weapon.  Almost 20% of the unicorns attacking the Fortress of Nightmare committed suicide within five days of coming to the battle front.”

Very softly, Sehang Shu  said, “I see.  And she has had over two thousand years since to perfect that craft.  Did he survive?”

Soberly, Jeremy replied, “Yes.  Sort of.  They released him from the Asylum about six months ago.  He is still under treatment.  The family blames me.  They say that it would not have happened, if I had not chosen the University over a military career.”

Sehang Shu nodded sadly.  “Some other herds view us in a similar manner.  I am sorry, Jeremy.

“I have a question though. With a military background, how did you miss Qushi Han Le’s sharpshooters at the dock in Singapone?”

Grimly, Jeremy replied, “That was my fault.  I was thinking of everything wrongly, and so did not even look for them.  I have only realized today from talking to you, that I had any problem. ��Equestrian Superiority was an unquestioned value in my family.  I did not even realize that it had soaked into me since my foalhood.  I may still lapse but ask your forgiveness now.  I will do my best to sort this mess out.”

Sehang Shu nodded thoughtfully. “The most important part of education, Jeremy, is not the learning of facts, as important as that is.  It is the admission of ignorance and error accompanied by the effort to remedy them.

“That is what Ethnological Geography is all about.  Our ignorance and erroneous knowledge of past civilization and the effort to remedy it is the whole foundation of the discipline.”

They revised their discussion of the subjects to be tackled in the colloquium.  Jeremy found the conversation fascinating.

He actually regretted it when it was time to dismount for making dinner.  After stretching out the kinks in his legs from the saddle, Jeremy wandered over to the cook stove.

He was mildly surprised when Soree made room for him.  “How can I help, Soree?

“Measure the water into that pot to the third line, please.”

Measuring in the water, Jeremy commented, “It seems unfair for us to eat and none of the herd to have any.”

Sang He’s voice replied, “In the desert, we need only drink once in seven days.  That will be a large drink, but it will do.  We need only eat once in ten days, though we can eat or drink any time that the opportunity presents itself.

“Our ancestors were made for mountain and desert lands.”

“It still seems unfair!  I presume that you do know what you are doing, after all, this is your home!”

He was surprised by the chuckle from the herd.

Dinner preparations were interrupted by the bellow of a musket and a cry from Sehang Shu!

Tyranny was fuming.  “They had no business seizing our truck!  Wasn’t it bad enough that their recklessness had already cost us one truck and most of the load?”

Overthrow, speaking from behind the wheel of the truck that they were in snapped, “That was your fault, Tyranny!  So was getting into that train wreck!  You disobeyed clearly posted signs about staying off the slope while the crossing was in use.”

Robber, sitting in the back of the cab put in, “How come, in the name of Discord, did you not read the traffic law pamphlets that I gave you?  It was the Lock Keeper finding that out that you got your permit without taking their knowledge test that cost us the truck!  Their rules are very clear and blunt.  They seize vehicles that are used in deliberate violation of their driving rules.”

Tyranny glared out the window of the truck at the passing rice paddies and neatly laid out farms.  His teeth ground.  The worst of it was that they were both right.

All that he could do was growl under his breath about injustice, so he did.  He sourly commented, “At least we have now got past the last two canals and what?  Four railroad crossings without any further problems.”

Robber consulted their map. “See those bluffs up ahead?  We will be going through an area of mountains.  When we clear them, it will only be about twenty kilometers to Cantrot.  We will have two rail crossings and one canal between us and the city.”

Ignoring Robber’s comments, Tyranny snarled, “That so-called Antiquarian, Daring Do, set us up! I have found out that she did not even take a single truck on her expedition!  The expedition proposal that she gave us, before she quit on us, is why we came this way!”

Overthrow said dryly, “So, you finally figured that out?  It took you long enough.  I knew that she took us to the cleaners on the proposal as soon as I saw them go on upriver, without even transshipping.”

He suddenly applied the brakes hard, jolting them all.  They were stopped only a few meters from a water buffalo on the road.

The two trucks behind them, driven by experienced Chineighese drivers, stopped without incident. Tyranny was reaching for the horn button when Overthrow knocked his hoof away.

“Stop trying to interfere! Tyranny, sounding the horn at domestic livestock is illegal.  All that we can do is wait for it to move or try to ease around it.  The law pamphlet suggests waiting in the case of water buffalo.”

He snarled, “Why should we wait?  We can drive around it!”

Outside, over a tonne and a half of highly irritated domestic water buffalo was pawing the roadway and lowering its head to charging position.  A peasant in plain cotton robes and flat conical hat was toiling up the road embankment toward the beast that was easily three times taller than he was.  He had a long wooden switch to herd the loose animal away.

He barked some command at the buffalo.  It turned its head and regarded its master briefly. Tyranny chose that moment to lean out the side window and make shooing gestures at it.  The distraction caused the enormous brute to snap its head about and focus entirely on the truck!  It charged.  

The impact shoved the truck back and sideways almost a meter!  It was accompanied by the shattering of glass night driving lamps and the crunch of metal.  The buffalo backed off, shaking its head.

The peasant’s switch got its attention and it started to walk sedately away, guided by taps of the long wand.  Tyranny, seeing it waking away, yelled, “Shoo!  Get out of our way!”

The transition from walking away to charging was almost instantaneous!  The huge heavy horns and thick skull of the enormous animal slammed into the right hand door of the truck.  It was almost perfectly centered, smashing and folding the door inward hard enough to bounce the dazed Tyranny almost entirely off his seat!

The very upset peasant used his switch and fanning motions of his hat to steer the water buffalo away, successfully, this time!  Robber shuddered as he saw the peasant’s orange mane and blue fur for the first time.

The steering still worked properly.  Overthrow got the truck back on course and they were cautiously back underway.

rules: list ten songs you’ve been listening to a lot lately and tag ten people

Me? Actually doing a tag game for once? Listen I always plan on doing them I just get distracted but right now I’m procrastinating on my final projects and also this gives me a chance to scream about my current hyperfixations so here we go tagged by @supergeekytoon lov u also I’ve included links in case you wanna listen but don’t wanna exert effort (aka me)

1. Pokémon Sword and Shield - vs Gym Leader

I’d love to tell you who composed this but unfortunately Bulbapedia is still lacking in specifics outside of “The game's music was primarily composed by Gō Ichinose and Minako Adachi. Additional music was composed by Keita Okamoto and Toby Fox, the latter of which only composed one track.” I don’t know how trustworthy the credits in the description of this video are either. ANYWAY this gym leader theme is a fucking BOP and I live for the cheering crowd it just makes it feel so real!

2. Pokémon Sword and Shield - vs Hop

I haven’t gushed about Hop on this blog yet but trust me I’m getting ready to. He’s now the second rival I’ve adopted and ugh I just love him. He doesn’t deserve all the shit this game is putting him through and he CERTAINLY doesn’t deserve all y’all’s hate just because he’s the Tutorial Boy like have you looked at his smile just leave him alone already! Also his themes have them Latinx vibes and it’s to die for. And yes, I did say themes, which leads us to...

3. Pokémon Sword and Shield - vs Hop (v2)

HAVE YOU NOTICED A PATTERN YET listen I just really love Hop ok. In unrelated new I’m gonna kill Bede with my own two hands and I hope Opal makes him cry himself to sleep every night because that little fucker deserves it. This theme has them dance vibes, but I’m not well versed enough in dance to tell if it’s salsa or tango or flamenco or what. Also it makes me wish I’d done Latin dance one semester instead of swing. It also has the return of the cheering crowd! I know they’re saying “woah” but it’s fun to pretend they’re saying “Hop”.

4. Pokémon Masters - Battle! Barry

Again, I tragically can’t seem to figure out composer information, but Bulbapedia gives music credits to Haruki Yamada and Shota Kageyama. Anyway Barry was my first rival son, and this is the first official remake of his theme from D/P/Pt we’ve ever gotten, and LORD does it do him credit. It’s unbearably hype and full of so much energy, and it’s still recognizable as his theme even though it also adds loads of new motifs, and it just works so well. 10/10 would get fined and then bubble beamed into another dimension again.

5. Together — あきよしふみえ (Fumie Akiyoshi)

What, you thought I was done with Pokémon? SURPRISE, I’M NOT! This is the first opening for the original Japanese version of the Diamond and Pearl anime, which I’ve been watching religiously because my aforementioned son Barry appears in it. Tragically he doesn’t show up until the 101st episode, which is why I’ve been trying to tear my way through the first part of the series. (If you’ve seen my Discord status, it’s literally just a countdown to Barry’s debut. I’ve still got a long way to go.) As a result of this I’ve now got this theme ingrained into my brain matter. At least it’s v good and you bet I catch feels over “Fog Clear the sad feelings” every time.

6.  ルマ (Ruma) — かいりきベア (Kairiki Bear)

Away from the Pokémon now, we have the NEWEST track from my favorite Vocaloid producer, Kairiki Bear! He’s normally not great at tuning Miku, but this one is actually really good. Definitely his finest Miku work yet. It’s also got that crazy guitar Kairiki is known for, and the subtle animations in the video are as good as ever. It’s also got super catchy repetition and just. Well. Every Kairiki song is a gift and as usual I’m hooked on this one even though I can’t explain it really well. ROAR!

7. ゴキブリの味 (The Taste of Cockroach) — MARETU

THE TRIUMPHANT RETURN OF MARETU TO VOCALOID AFTER OVER A YEAR OF NOTHING BUT ONE OUT OF THE BLUE INSTRUMENTAL ALBUM! Basically MARETU ended up in a bit of a scandal where he was caught cheating on his girlfriend with a minor with an undisclosed mental disability. (It’s important to note that the minor was over the age of consent, but below 20, thus still considered a minor in Japan...at least as far as I have been led to believe.) He did the whole public apology thing and then disappeared. Now it seems like he’s back! While I definitely have mixed feelings on him as a person now, I can’t deny that he’s a hecking great producer and one of the absolute masters of Miku tuning. You’ll notice in this song alone he’s tuning her in three different styles. The mastery. Anyway, all of MARETU’s songs are edgy as fuck, and this one is no different, this time tackling bullying in Japanese schools. The questions throughout the video fucked me up, man.

8. エイリアンエイリアン (Alien Alien) — ナユタン星人 (Nayutalien)

My favorite song of this quirky little alien series, Alien Alien has the cutest little dance and I’m super excited to see it in the next Project Diva game, even though it’s getting a dance pv instead of a story one. At least it fits with the original pv for once (stares at Sea Lily Deep Sea Tale). Anyway the story of a little telepathic alien who doesn’t quite understand human emotion falling in love with a human and realizing that not even impending oblivion can negate this feeling is just so sweet. I hope they’re happy.

9. ハウトゥー世界征服 (World Domination How-To)  — Neru

I was obsessed with this song a while ago, got out of it, and now I’m back into it again. Just when I think I’m used to what Neru has to offer, he goes and sucker punches me with a song like this. I don’t even know how to explain it. The hopelessness of the pre-chorus compared to the sheer power of the chorus. The concept of looking at your past, present, and future selves and trying to decide where you stand and where you want to stand. The “let’s promise no matter what from now on that we’ll tear off the price tags on our backs”  — a motif from the earlier Abstract Nonsense of being priced and labeled. It’s just so good. Definitely worthy of being the title track of its album.

10. シティー・ボーイ (City Boy)  — Mitchie M

This last song was really hard to pick, because I’ve really only been listening to the first eight songs on this list over and over, occasionally throwing in World Dominaiton How-To, and outside of that everything else is mostly just listen-once-when-I’m randomly-in-the-mood-then-back-to-repeating-the-others. But of the rest of the songs in my giant music library, this one has been randomly played more often than anything else. It’s extra strange because it’s actually a cover that was done for a New Wave Vocaloid album, but Mitchie stuck it on one of his albums and then I was hooked. Mitchie is another master of Miku tuning, though you’ll notice that his specialty is making Miku sound ungodly realistic, whereas MARETU specializes in using her voice in unique ways. I would have liked to talk about Seraphim on the Ring or Assassin Princess here instead, since they’re way newer and also Mitchie’s original work, but that just wouldn’t have been truthful to my current music tastes. Sorry, Mitchie.

3DS: Time for Playtime

It's been fun getting a Wii U lately, but I wanted to look back on all the use I've gotten out of my 3DS in the last year by running down my most played games.

Super Smash Bros. - 154 Hours

This is still my most played game after recently getting back into the 3DS, despite playing zero Smash in that time. I played a lot of this game when it came out and then leading up to the release of Ultimate. This game was a godsend for someone like me who didn't own a Wii U but wanted to stay involved with the series.

Pokemon X - 56 Hours

Again, this is from when I first got my 3DS. I played this one over a whole summer vacation off and on! I still can't decide how I feel about XP Share.

Pokemon Ultra Moon - 51 Hours

Okay, this one is this high because after beating the game, my girlfriend tried to catch all the Pokemon and collect all the totem stickers. I really enjoyed this one, but the Ultra Necrozma fight kicked my butt.

Link Between Worlds - 49 Hours

I actually own the special edition Triforce 3DS which came bundled with this game! As my first game on the system, it is no surprise to see it so high, even though I got stuck on the final boss. I consider this to be one of the best Zelda games.

Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask - 41 Hours

This one makes a lot of sense. When I played all that Smash Bros before the release of Ultimate, this was the one other game I played during that time, to the point of actually beating it and a good chunk of the daily puzzles! I even missed a college lecture because I was so wrapped up in the climax.

Pokemon Alpha Sapphire - 27 Hours

Finally, a game I played recently with no shenanigans or excuses. This was an interesting "book ends" with Omega Ruby, as OR was the first Pokemon game I played in my recent endeavor to play them all, while AS was towards the end. Backwards of their names, huh?

Pokemon Omega Ruby - 26 Hours

Fitting that this game should be so close to Alpha Sapphire. I would think that one of these two games would've been left running overnight or somehow had the playtimes differ more, but it somehow makes me hapy to see them side by side. I appreciated Wally's Theme much more the second time through.

Pokemon Y - 23 Hours

Considerably less than the time I spent in X all those years ago. This was one of the last Pokemon games I played in my recent playing of all the games, since I had already technically beaten X. It was a lot of fun to revisit though, and I love Sylveon!

Ocarina of Time 3D - 21 Hours

This one also makes sense, since I owned it during my original teenage years of owning the 3DS. I can't believe I paid 40 bucks for this just to get stuck on the Forest Temple for years! OoT doesn't resonate with me the same way as everyone else seemingly.

Pokemon Red - 19 Hours

Again, this makes sense. I think this was the third game of my recent Pokemon marathon, right after Alpha Sapphire and Ultra Moon. It was a short run thanks to an overlevelled Venasaur and the three legendary birds. I enjoyed crushing this game.

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy - 16 Hours

This is the game I just finished. I love the series and it was nice to finish it out. I think the ending was silly but the presentation value was nice to see.

Pushmo - 14 Hours

This was my go-to breakfast game for weeks, but phone-scrolling has replaced it as my morning activity while eating.

Shovel Knight - 14 Hours

This used to be the premiere downloadable title on 3DS. I think this game still holds up, but it has lost the sheer novelty of being a Kickstarter retro success over time.

Shin Megami Tensei IV - 13 Hours

I liked Persona 4 so I thought I would like this. It was too difficult for me back then, but now I don't have the patience. This was one of the games I actually paid 15 bucks to download back in highschool.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate - 13 Hours

The first of my several attempts to get into Monster Hunter. I bought, played, quit, and sold this game all back in high school. I would later go on to buy, try, and sell Monster Hunter World as well. It just isn't for me.

Metroid: Samus Returns - 12 Hours

I tried and hated this game on PC emulator, but it has a lot more charm on the actual system. I still generally dislike the melee mechanic but I generally enjoyed this game. It helps that I even beat the original first! Hopefully Dread fixes the few things wrong with this game.

Kid Icarus: Uprising - 12 Hours

I don't know if I ever fell in love with the "unique" control scheme of this game, but I definitely fell in love with all of the characters! This was a great one to play with my girlfriend watching. It's also great to have more of a context for Pit, Palutena, and Dark Pit in Smash now!

Pokemon Sun - 11 Hours

I haven't beaten it yet, whoops.

Rhyhm Heaven Megamix - 11 Hours

One of the last purchases I made before the Switch came out and killed my 3DS playing nearly permanently. I paid 30 bucks! As much as I love this game, I don't know if it was worth that.

Super Mario 3D Land - 10 Hours

A rare game that I played before AND after the rift of me playing 3DS. It's...fine. Definitely Mario.

Picross 3D: Round 2 - 9 Hours

I have always loved Picross and this is no exception. I really should dive back in sometime!

Animal Crossing: New Leaf - 8 Hours

I just can't get into it, I've tried but I can't.

Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright - 8 Hours

This was actually a birthday gift! I was very excited for the concept but hugely turned off by the time travel and setting. I need to give it another shake, perhaps after replaying some of the Ace Attorney games.

Resident Evil The Mercenaries 3D - 7 Hours

One of my few highschool digital purchases. I played a lot of Mercenaries in 6 and 5 (which this is based on, seemingly). It's...fine. But I should have just replayed Revelations on 3DS instead.

Theatrhythm Final Fantasy - 6 Hours

It was 7 bucks at GameStop used, so I guess I almost got a 1:1 ratio of hours to dollars. I would've enjoyed this game more now, after playing FF7 Remake.

Pokemon Picross - 6 Hours

Free AND Picross? Yes, but also grindy and scummy. I wish you could just buy a physical copy of this game with everything unlocked.

Paper Mario Sticker Star - 5 Hours

Ten dollars on clearance was too much for this game. Maybe I will try it again sometime knowing ahead of time that it is a joke of a video game. I spit on this game's grave.

Mario Tennis Open - 5 Hours

A lot of the games I acquired within the last year have much lower playtimes, so I was not expecting to see this game this high. I guess I played a few tournaments. I feel like I quit because Waluigi cheated, then played just the tutorial of Mario Golf before quitting that too.

Elite Beat Agents - 4.5 Hours

This game rules.

Tetris Axis - 4.5 Hours

This game drools.

Kirby Planet Robobot - 4.5 Hours

Cute game, but I only play it with my girlfriend.

New Super Mario Brothers 2 - 4.5 Hours

I am surprised it is this low considering I got stuck on the final boss in single player and beat around 2 worlds in coop.

Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward - 4 Hours

I need to play more!

Super Smash Brothers Demo - 4 Hours

Hell yeah this was such an exciting time to be a Nintendo fan! Trying to get ahold of this demo was like getting a Willy Wonk golden ticket. I was so excited to play as Mega Man, Villager, Mario, Link, and Pikachu even if just on Battlefield.

Kingdom Hearts 3D - 3.5 Hours

A surprisingly competent action RPG. This game kind of reeks as part of the PS4 collection, but it really shines on the original version.

Layton's Mystery Journey - 3 Hours

I like the idea of playing as Layton's daughter, but I don't like having a talking dog and an insufferable simp as sidekicks. I hope the next game just returns to the original crew.

Mario Kart 7 - 3 Hours

It's...Mario Kart. Not a ton more to say.

Mario Party Island Tour - 3 Hours

I have trouble keeping the different 3DS Mario Party games separate in my mind, but anything that's not Top 100 is fun with friends. Top 100 only has one, miserable board! Why???

Ultimate NES Remix - 3 Hours

A great game for pick up and play, but not for long sessions.

Art of Balance Touch - 3 Hours

Recently got into this. Tons of fun until the difficulty gets a little too high!

Warioware Gold - 2.5 Hours

I completely beat this game and it is still this low. Fun, but hard to recommend at any price but free.

Luigi's Mansion 2 - 2.5 Hours

Cute game....but feels hard to play for more than 20 minutes at a time.

Dead or Alive Dimensions - 2.5 Hours

Again, all I did was beat the game and then quit. Surprsingly competent for a 3DS fighting game, but too barebones with content compared to Smash.

Boxboy - 2.5 Hours

I feel like I played this game way more. It's cute and fun, but now I have a hard time picking up the puzzles where I left them.

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate Demo - 2.5 Hours

This tricked me into buying the game! Dangit

Mario Party Star Rush - 2.5 Hours

Oh god, I can't keep this one and Island Tour straight.

Pokemon Shuffle - 2 Hours

I feel like I played this one way more, but that is probably because the phone version also exists.

VVVVVV - 2 Hours

Beat the whole game! Not a bad way to spend time, but this makes it worth only 2 dollars according to my 1:1 ratio of dollars to hours.

Final Fantasy Explorers - 2 Hours

I like some things about this game but I just cannot play anything related to Monster Hunter.

Tri Force Heroes - 2 Hours

This suffers from "Overcooked syndrome" where you have to rely on your teammates so much that it becomes a total chore.

Theatrythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call - 1.5 Hours

I played that much just to unlocked multiplayer.

Super Street Fighter IV - 1.5 Hours

I think I paid for this game full price back in high school and then barely played it. I've always tried to delude myself into thinking that I can play real fighting games that are not Smash.

Hatsune Miku Project Mirai DX - 1.5 Hours

Again, I feel like I played this game for days and days. I suppose rhythm games feel like time slows down when you play them. Thumbs up for including Puyo Puyo! I am surprised this game released in the West at all.

Rune Factory 4 - 1.5 Hours

I got this far as a favor to a friend. I just can't play any game where there is an optimal way to act that sounds exhausting but possible to me. I know I could easily talk to all the NPC's every day... but I do not want to.

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate - 1.5 Hours

This was exclusively played with friends. Not a fan.

Pokemon Rumble World - 1.5 Hours

Free games. Novelty as a kid. No time for them as an adult. Nothing about this game is appealing beyond the price point.

Attack of the Friday Monster - 1.5 Hours

My biggest memory of this game is playing it on the schoolbus when a little kid asked if he could play/watch and I told him I was playing a boring game that he wouldn't like. As cute as this game is, yes, it is boring and not very fun.

Sonic Generations - 1.5 Hours

I somewhat enjoyed this game until the Shadow boss fight. Can't figure it out. Not fun.

Kirby's Extra Epic Yarn - 1.5 Hours

Cute, played it with girlfriend.

Mario and Sonic Rio 2016 - 1 Hour

Cute game to play with friends but some of the minigames suck. Thumbs up for less common Sonic characters.

Azure Striker Gunvolt - 1 Hour

Not bad, just helped me realize that I don't really like Mega Man style games all that much. The genre of "Mega Man" just feels like a Metroid with no exploration or meaningful progression.

Pokemon Mystery Dungeon - 1 Hour

I tried to get into this franchise but it is so booooorring and slow and unappealing to me.

I've been rounding to the half hour, so the next game is Zelda Oracle of Season at 44 minutes, which would round down to half an hour. I will take that as my cue to finish here.

In conclusion: games I owned longer tended to be played longer. Shocker. This was all just an excuse to ramble about Nintendo games anyways.

Now for the many obsessions.

1) Devil in Dorian - Don't Waste My Time

This song definitely caught me by surprise. I don't normally like songs like this, but I kept finding myself listening to it, jamming and having it stuck in my head. It's like a blend of punk and classic style heavy metal. Great song to jam out to.

2) Beneath My Sins - My Rules

This is a symphonic metal band I've known about for a minute now. They were originally called Evolvent, but now go by Beneath My Sins. This song is so good. The choirs and synths are so good and truly what make this song as epic as it is.

3) Voluspaa - Av Sin Klokskap

I came across this band while on the Metal Archives one day trying to see if Catherine of Mortal Love had been featured in anything in recent years. She's only in backing vocals on this track, but nonetheless, this song is epic. I'm so picky about folk metal bands since so many sound so similar to one another, but this one is looking to be one that I'll love.

4) Lovelorn Dolls - Mother of the Universe feat. Helen Vogt (ex-Flowing Tears, Lighthouse in Darkness)

I came across this song while seeing if Helen was featured in anything since the end of Flowing Tears (which is how I learned about Lighthouse in Darkness) and found out she was featured on one of Lovelorn Dolls' releases. I've known of this band for a minute, but haven't really dabbled that much into them, yet every song I've heard from them are absolutely amazing. This song is no exception. Definitely check it out.

5) Adagio - Darkness Machine

I discovered this band through ProgPower USA's Facebook page and I am in love with this track. Progressive power metal with a tinge of djent. This track is so epic. I'm surprised at how much I enjoy the singer (I'm not usually a fan of singers like him). I'm definitely going to look more into this band, because this song is the tits.

6) Psyborg Corp. - Interdimensional Hyperdrive

I finally got around to listening to Psyborg Corp.'s debut album after knowing about it since its release many years ago. If you are a fan of industrial/harsh EBM, definitely give these guys a listen. This song is amazing to listen to when wanting to chill, but is also very danceable.

7) Aperion - U

I discovered this band a few years ago, but just decided to look more into them. I came across this music video and fell in love. It's so good, dramatic and theatrical. If you're into symphonic metal bands that have more of theatrical sound, definitely give these guys a listen.

8) Hallatar - Mirrors

This is a doom metal project created to honor the life of Aleah Stanbridge (Trees of Eternity) and the songs are composed of poems and other writings of hers. The vibe and sound this song has took me by surprise, because Aleah was known for doing ambient music; this is pure gothic doom metal. It's so haunting and broody. Definitely give it a listen.

9) Qveen Herby - Gucci

Karmin got a face lift and are now Qveen Herby, which has more of a hip-hop/R&B vibe to it than the original stuff from the Karmin era. 10) Alina Lesnki - How Soon is Now feat. Agordas (The Smiths cover)

I've talked about Alina and her covers many times before, but this one has to be my favorite one she's done in a while. Such a great tune and still captures the essence of the original, while still having Alina's own symphonic metal flare to it. And don't get me started on the harmonies. The harmonies are EVERYTHING.

11) Karkaos - Kolossos feat. Morgan Lander (Kittie)

I discovered this band one day when scrolling through my main tumblr and decided to give them a listen. I immediately became hooked on this song. I don't know how to describe it. It's a bit metalcore, symphonic, deathish, but it's all around some extreme proggy goodness and I need to hear more from them.

12) Little Mix - Power feat. Stormzy

I would've never thought to listen to this group on my own, but when I found out that Willam, Alaska and Courtney were featured in the video, I had to check it out. I actually fell in love with the song. It's just so fun and empowering. A great summer jam.

13) Dear Apollo - Closure

For fans of Look Right Penny, you will be happy to know that the singer is in a new project that has a similar vibe to LRP, it's just a bit more proggy. This song is so simple, but it leaves such a huge impact and is so catchy. Can't wait to hear more from them.

14) Silentium - Hangman's Lullaby

This was one of those random YouTube finds that turn out to be absolutely wonderful. This gothic metal band has definitely gotten my attention with how absolutely gorgeous this song is. Reminds me of the stuff you would hear from Norwegian gothic/gothic doom metal bands from the 90's (which is my favorite style of gothic metal). Definitely am gonna listen to more from them.

15) Selene - This Life

I recently discovered this band not too long ago. They're your standard symphonic metal band, but this song stands out so much compared to the few other songs I've heard from them. It's a ballad track and is so soft and pretty. A beautiful song to chill to.

16) Nox - Signed in Blood feat. Helena Michaelsen (Imperia)

I got bored one day and decided to see if Helena was ever featured in another band and came across this band. They're not really my cup of tea, but this track is so good. I think part of it has to do with Helena's bits in it. She just demands your attention in this song and hits some pretty impressive high notes. If you're into blackened death metal, this is a pretty good band to check out.

17) Mortad - Hollow Tomorrow

I discovered this band one day when checking out a playlist centered around women in extreme metal bands and/or bands with female screamers/growlers. This song is a beautiful ballbuster. I never thought I would ever describe a track like that. So much energy and the chorus is so lovely. Definitely will check out more from them.

18) Ionnalee - Not Human

This is the second single from this project and I am in love with it. It's so lovely, catchy and fun to jam out to. Between this and Samaritan, this has to be my favorite. Partly because of the instrumentals, but also because of how beautiful the chorus is. Definitely check this track out if you're into ambient/experimental pop music.

19) Clouds - In the Ocean of My Tears feat. Natalie Koskinen

This is a doom metal band that I discovered one day while checking out Luna Obscura's Facebook page. Their front woman, Gogo, is going to be featured on their upcoming release, so I thought I'd check out a few of their songs. This is the second song by them I've heard and I absolutely love it. So haunting, broody and melancholy.

20) Biffy Clyro - Many of Horror (When We Collide)

I discovered this song through Melanie Murphy's Insta Story one day. It's so lovely and pleasant. Such a beautiful song to just chill out to. It's so simple, but leaves such a huge impact because of how it was executed.

21) Circus of Fools - Another World Within

Here's another random YouTube discovery that turned out to be absolutely amazing. This is a melodic gothic metal band that has a symphonic element to them. The video is so cool and slightly creepy (the outfits and filters give it a slightly unsettling atmosphere) and suits the song really well. Definitely will check out more from them.

22) Xandria - A Theater of Dimensions feat. Henning Basse (MaYaN)

HO. LY. TITS. Never in my wildest dreams would I ever imagine that Xandria would produce such a chaotic and proggy song like this. Theater of Dimensions is an excellent album, but this song is the best one off it and probably their best song to date. So much raw emotion and power. They definitely explored Dianne's vocal talents completely with this album and entirely with this song. So theatrical, campy and emotive. DEFINITELY give this song a listen!

Yo! I was thinking of something similar to your idea about knocking a song off each album. If you could make one song the title track that's not the title track on each album, which songs would you choose? And if you wouldn't change the title track defend why

okay lets go !! this is fun !!!! also get ready for a monstrously long essay. im going to do them out of order probably sdkjfsdf so this wont be organized But. well first off, on 1of1 i would pick u need me and Maybe this is bc im biased towards it bc its my favorite song but listen… i feel like they could have continued the 90s aesthetic w the song as well. it would have been a Different 90s aesthetic rather than the cheerful bright one they were going for But that song to me feels like playing a cyberpunk-y arcade game  and that is Very 90s so. i would have loved to see them 90s video game aesthetics in music video form i think it would have been interesting. 

i would definitely leave dream girl as the title track for misconceptions of you. not necessarily bc its my favorite song off the album in this case, bc its not, but bc i think thematically it works best. especially bc my Ideal title track from misconceptions of you would have been nightmare. so going from dream girl -> nightmare works Perfectly in a thematic sense and it definitely ties those two albums together even wore. especially bc moy’s sound was more upbeat/had a Brighter aesthetic, while misconceptions of me was darker Both in the aesthetic/packaging of the album and in the songs themselves. which makes sense bc its going from a happy dream to a nightmare. this is really my favorite concept and im going to be on my deathbed wishing nightmare was the title track bc i love this idea so much its so Perfect.

for odd i find it really difficult to say. the other day i was talking about shinee albums w someone (and we were comparing 1of1 to odd) and they said that 1of1 was definitely a more cohesive album w better flow, however it could have been intentional that odd didnt rly have a cohesive Vibe bc it was called well… odd. like an odd jumble of songs together. i think thats rly brilliant btw and true so!! see initially i would say ‘well keep view’ bc i got this whole dreamy summer roadtrip vibe from the teasers/pictures and all that But if you were to pick a different song then the teasers/pictures would reflect that. its harder to tackle bc theres not a Theme like there is 1of1 or the misconceptions albums. and i like the whole dreamy roadtrip aesthetic where everything seems floaty and is if youre seeing it through a filter. i really enjoy that. but i think odd eye would have made for a very interesting mv and an entirely different concept all together Which is cool,, i also think it does work in that it references something not matching and being Odd™ just like the songs on the album itself which is a good summary of the “theme” of that album, if there would be any. i think view is probably a better title track in terms of marketability and all that But thats besides the point. so yeah after reflection,,  i do think i would pick odd eye

for mttm theres zero question i would keep mttm as the title track its literally their best mv and its So unique and stand out. its an amazing concept that is just on an entirely different level. also i loved the rocky horror teasers stuff that was great !! and again the mv itself is the most unique one that shinee has done Ever so changing the title track is not a good idea here

now that we get 2 sherlock i start to find this difficult bc i just cant imagine any other song being the title track. this is the same for lucifer. both those songs are so Iconique and one of the most well known songs shinee has ever put out. they are legitimately iconic. i mean lucifer is straight up shinees most well known and universally adored song tbh. they are such mainstays in shinees overall Image that a timeline where theyre not the title tracks seem so different. this goes for ring ding dong as well there is No way i would ever change the title track to be anything but rdd ring ding dong has birthed us so many memes for like 8 fuckign years straight. and Also for replay (although thats a debut not a title track so),,, its their debut song i cannot change that Dude its such a defining moment for them and they perform it to this day. these are less “objective” answers probably but nonetheless my answers.

for everybody,, while my favorite song is destination as everyone should Know at this point i would pick queen of new york. like in fact No i would not chose symptoms to be title track although thats the most well liked from that album. i dont have a super strong for reason except for the fact that i think queen of new york would make for an interesting mv. for some reason i always imagine some of kind of retro futuristic vibe from that song. actually the very specific aesthetic i imagine is the one in this picture or this one. i dont rly know Why but i think of something really colorful and maybe slightly surreal looking but not in a dramatic way,, i think this aesthetic is interesting for a mv. and ok who am i fooling of course id also say destination. destination could have Amazing choreo and itd be so fun  i imagine a very fast paced mv where they go around zooming through like 20 dimensions and fight ppl or something. it could work in their military uniforms which queen of new york couldnt rly skjfskfd. 

now,,, the hello repackage. while hello is also one of their Iconic songs tbh ive got to say that id change the title track to a-yo. initially i felt that Urge to say obsession but i wont bc i think a-yo fits the aesthetic that the repackage was going for Aka something light and bubbly after lucifer. a-yo has the same general light and bubbly vibe as hello does, and i happen to like it better, so i think hello’s aesthetic could be preserved while using an (imo) better song so !!
