Gathers up the courage to send an ask
Since you are the creator for the blueprint of Yandere PM! Dazai, I gotta ask (because this is my all-time favorite concept with Yandere Dazai and I need to get out of my writing funk)...
How would he react to his darling falling in love or forming a close relationship with someone else? BUT that someone else isn’t a nobody Ex. Chuuya, Akutagawa, Oda, or Kouyou.
Like every second you are away from him, you are with the other person. Maybe going out of your way to avoid him and go to this other person. Dazai can clearly see that you aren’t being just friendly and it looks like the other person reciprocates your feelings.
However Dazai realizes that it wouldn’t be so simple as to just force you back with him or punish you since you’ve got yourself a new white knight.
Ex:
Chuuya, being someone not afraid to deck Dazai in the face, would be rightfully disgusted regarding Dazai’s behavior and would probably try to get you permanently away from the bandaged freak. And kiss you just to stick it to Dazai.
Akutagawa… ok y’all would be screwed if Dazai found out about you both but the relationship would be super sweet. LET AKUTAGAWA BE HAPPY!!
Oda needs no further explanation. Dazai actually likes and respects Oda so if he is telling Dazai to stop then maybe the suicidal dickhead would consider that he is going too far.
Kouyou is a debatable choice considering that she is a bit scared of Dazai and she is a tad like a yandere herself, but if you are important enough to her she might get you a job under her command so she can protect you during Port Mafia work hours. (she operates the Port Mafia brothels so do with that what you will)
Jesus this was a lot...
One of biggest differences between PM!Dazai and ADA!Dazai is the treatment of their darling.
PM!Dazai is way more clingy than ADA!Dazai. Dazai has you bounded to him 24/7, you're rarely alone. If you were to get close and fall in love with someone that wasn't Dazai, it'd have to be someone who's around him often.
It doesn't necessarily need to be someone like Chuuya, who's always working with Dazai, but instead it just needs to be someone who's in his presence often.
It started off with glances from across the room, but now it's become flirting with just your eyes alone. Dazai picked up on what was going on pretty fast, and this is where he thinks you've forgotten just how ruthless he is.
He'd bring you down to a room where your lover is tied to a chair, their mouth gagged as a cloth was placed over their eyes.
One of Dazai's favorite forms of torture is having someone hurt their loved ones. Luckily for him, and unfortunately for you, he just got his suit cleaned, so you'll have to be doing it.
All he'd do is hand you a crowbar and say one word, "Hit."
After a swift hit to the gut, you end up bursting into tears, saying that you couldn't hurt them.
This is when Dazai's true nature comes out.
Any amusement Dazai had is now placed with annoyance and disappointment, Dazai pulls at your hair, lifting you off the floor.
"If you don't fucking bash his brains in, it won't just him going out in a body bag."
Throwing you back down onto the floor, you reluctantly give the few more blows, the final blow causing you to collapse onto the floor before bursting out into tears.
"Good job," Dazai said in a sickeningly soft tone, patting your head before forcing you look up him. The coldness in his eyes sent a chill down your spine. "If you ever cheat on me again, I'll make you someone else's bitch."

River Side Confessions.
Summary: When you ask the shadow singer to help train your muscles, one thing leads to another, and you both end up together.
Request: N/A
Pairing: Azriel x Reader
Warnings: Pranks, Azriel threatening the sanctity and secrecy of cookie stashes.
~*~*~*~*~
“When I said ‘train me to become stronger’, I really didn’t mean ‘drag me to the mountains and force me into a river’.” You were annoyed to say the least. Annoyed and sick of Azriel who was currently chuckling at you from a rock near by, standing tall as he looked down at you with those hazel eyes.
Earlier this week you had asked him if he was free to do some extra training with you because you felt like you were becoming rusty, especially since all the big wars and battles were over and all you dealt with were the occasional illyrian brute in the difficult camps.
In retrospect, you should have asked someone else. However, Azriel was significantly better than Cassian and if Cassian had gotten a hint that you wanted even a little extra training, cauldron forbid whatever he would have planned.
So maybe standing in a river trying to maintain your balance against the strong current was a decent situation, but that did not mean that you would not complain about it.
“This is training,” Azriel retorted, “With all the moping around since the war and utter lack of missions on a whole, your core muscles has probably weakened, and in hand-to-hand combat, that isn’t good, princess,” You glared at him harder.
“In simple words,” He continued, “You would be screwed if you were on a battle field right now.” Rolling you eyes, you hated that what he said was true. You had noticed that your muscles had weakened, though your technique was flawless, posture can be everything in close combat, and relying on your magic was not an option especially since Hybern had brought concoctions like Faebane into play.
Cursing at yourself, you despised how your heart seemed to leap and swoon at the nickname, and you hated how your stomach seemed to be in knots at the tired and sultry look Azriel was giving you.
Nesta would probably be screaming in your ear right now that this was some romance scene and the two of you would realise that you were both meant for each other.
Bullshit.
And maybe you should have known better than to fixate on your very real and long-term crush on the shadowsinger because just as you wanted to roll your eyes again at the thought of Nesta and her hopeless romantic novels, your foot slipped and you squealed as you fell into the water and was thrown against the rock that Azriel was standing on.
You heard Azriel curse as he grabbed you by your shoulder and hauled you out of the water.
“Shit shit shit,” Gritting his teeth he flew you to land and lay you down gently, you were bleeding from your head and you could feel the warm liquid trickle down the side of your head. However, instead of opening your eyes, you kept them closed, it was payback time.
You could feel Azriel’s hands travel up and down your body as he scanned you for injuries. “Open your damn eyes,” He bit out, it seemed like a command but you could hear his desperation. He probably knew that you wouldn’t die from such injuries and that waiting around for a bit would allow you to wake up. But you wanted to know what he would say…if there was anything to say.
“Dammit, Y/N please, you can’t be freaking unconscious from hitting a rock and if I actually hurt you I couldn’t live with myself, so open your bloody eyes,” He begged, but Azriel noticed the slight curve in your lips that you were trying to desperately hold back, and as he connected the dots he grinned.
“Well if you are unconscious I guess you don’t mind me eating your secret stash of cookies and also telling Cassian where you like to hide your stash,” Azriel drawled and you shot up so fast as you glared at him, hard. “You tell Cassian, that thief, about MY cookies, and I will break your kneecaps and pry them off with a crowbar,” You hissed. Chuckling, Azriel stroked a hand through your
“Calm down, Little Psycho, besides, you deserve it after scaring me like that,” He teased. Your heart skipped a beat at the nickname, but you rolled your eyes as you huffed. “If anyone is the psycho, it’s you. Everyone else knows that cookies are sacred,” Looking away, that was when you realised that you were pressed up against Azriel when you had sat up from your lying down ‘knocked out’ position you had curled up subconsciously to his warmth because the water on you skin made you feel unbearably cold.
As if he had also realised it at the same time, you could have sworn Azriel’s cheeks heated as you scooted away from me, bring your knees to your chest.
You both sat in silence for a while after that, and to your surprise, Azriel was the one who broke it first.
“I have a confession to make,” You could not believe your ears, did Azriel sound….awkward? Staring at him, you made a gesture with your hand, prompting him to continue. “I…I think your my mate,” Wait. Pause. WHAT!?
And that was the exact words you yelled out as you processed what Azriel had said casually like he was telling you he had beat up someone the other day over ice cream. Sure, you would have been surprised over that, but that is not how you tell someone that you are QUITE LITERALLY THEY’RE SOULMATE.
Little did you know, you had been babbling all this out and Azriel was holding back a wild grin.
Safe to say, that afternoon ended with you chasing Azriel with a random stick you had found on the river side, before you both return to Azriel’s home, and I think you can figure out what you both did next 🙂

Alix Kubdel?
Here you go!!!
If you want more about this au, feel free to just send in the name of a character and I’ll give you a ficlet/oneshot about or in the pov of that character.
Warning:the story is told in Achronological order. The order of THIS chapter would be around early to mid season three.
Alix didn’t expect to spend her Sunday fighting her brother.
But alas, Hawkmoth seemed to have the power of picking the worst time for everything, so of course her brother got pissy at some guy calling out his piss poor knowledge of Egyptian culture.
“Thoth, give me time!”her brother yelled.
“He’s a scribe you idiot not Chronos!”she screamed”and he’s not a baboon either!…or at least not most of the time.”
Jalil turned to her, taking his attencion off the poor guy who just corrected him about Nefertiti“You all know nothing of the gods!”
“Well clearly “nothing” is more than you, dimwit!”Alix started to run at this point. it’d be better that Jalil target her over anyone else. Hell, she was fast. maybe she could buy Nath or Marc some time to get over here so they could deal with him.
She scrambled for her phone, hastily dialing Marc.
“Hey! Anciel! Get over here!” She yelled into the speaker.
“What is it K-oh shit”they hung up, leaving alix to outrun her brother.
At least she knew her way around.
For about ten minutes, she ran laps around the museum, up until she reached one of the statue exhibits. Which was a dead end. Dammit.
Hey at least Nath or Marc could probably bust her out of those time bubbles, didn’t ladybug do that-…wait, was that statue hollow?
“I have you here…now you will have no choice but be a sacrifice for my Nefertiti!” Oh shit.
“…isn’t sacrifice an Aztec thing-?”
She was interrupted by the sound of running and a scream.
“Alix, Run!” a particular void eyed rooster yelled as they smashed a vase on the Akuma’s head.
“Look at that!”she remarked.
“Book it!”Rooster bold said as they turned around, lifting an old statue and grabbing it as if to use like some kind of bat.
“Be careful with that!”Alix hid behind a few other statues, making sure she wouldn’t waste too much time running from and to the fight scene“Fluff, Clockwise”
She was engulfed in a blue light as she switched quickly changed to her superhero outfit. As soon as the transformation was finished she started running back.
“Bunnix is on the scene!”she yelled out as soon as she was in view”and ready to kick ass!”
“Good, now please help me!”Roo yelled out, nearly dodging a time bubble.
“On it, Roo!”she said, hitting her brother right in the head.
“Ooh!nice shot!”they remarked as they once again hit him with the statue.
The pharaoh didn’t seem to find this too amusing, however, As he broke out of the two’s reach and started booking it to the exit.
“Damn you!I’m gonna go search for Ladybug!”he yelled.
“Yeah go get your ass kicked somewhere else!”Alix yelled back.
He flipped her off, that ba-oh look a bus dropped on him. She saw that from the wreckage arose a certain last member of their team.
“Hi there!”Nath -or Caprikid- said.
“Cap!”Marc smiled.
“Roo!”Caprikid grinned.
“And me!”Bunnix added.
“Horus, give me flight!”the dipshit said, completely disregarding that Horus is a kingship god.
“Genesis!”
…Oh look. another bus. That ought to shut him up for a few more seconds.
“Hey Roo, Genesis!”Caprikid yelled, handing Rooster bold a Crobar before Alix’s brother emerged once again from the bus, immediately getting his face trampled as Caprikid made his way towards the other two heroes.
“You…”Jalil said”you little…ANUBIS, WAKE MY MUMMIES!”
“ITS OSIRIS YOU DUMBASS!”
A giant beam came out as the Akuma sent the two busses flying, nearly hitting Alix.
“Rude”
He turned around, turning random civilians into mummies.
“Double rude, Jackass!”
“Looks like we’ll need to get up on his level.”Caprikid remarked.
“Hey!”Roo screeched, making the pharaoh turn around before promptly getting hit by a flying crowbar, causing the pendant to shatter on impact, releasing the Akuma.
“…or just some plot armor, I guess”
She walked over to him, poking the now normal Jalil in the chest”I think you broke one of his ribs”
“Cool. Didn’t think I could do that”
She glanced over to the Akuma, which was escaping the scene of the crime.
“Oh, no you don’t!”Nath yelled, making his way to the butterfly before snatching it mid air”we’re waiting here till Chat Noir comes in.”
He jumped down, glancing at the unconscious Jalil.
“Should we get the paramedics?”
“Yeah…”
“Probably”

Will sees Billy kind of like a father/ another parental figure (bcoz fuck lonnie). He has Jonathan of course (and Hopper and Steve), but Billy is the one who teaches him how to play basketball, change a tire, throw a punch, etc. a lot of stuff fathers in the 80’s would generally teach their kids
will has a hard time adjusting to changes in his life.
when his father first left, even though he was a piece of shit, it was weird to lose him. he got so used to the occasional affection that he grew to miss that fatherly figure.
jonathan was still a kid, too. he was dealing with their dad leaving as well, and he didn’t need the responsibility of acting like a dad to will.
joyce was amazing, but she’s a helicopter mom. she’s tactical and confident, but in a mom way, and there’s just some things a woman can’t teach her son as well as a man can (the puberty talk was scarring, to say the least)
bob was kind, bob gave will a chance and didn’t look at him any differently, and will thought that maybe, just maybe he could get a father figure out of him, but we all know what happened with that.
then steve came into their small group, but when and dustin had a very close relationship and steve didn’t care to interact with the other kids.
hopper was kind and amazing, but he didn’t have a super close connection with will. he just wasn’t openly warm and fuzzy and they just didn’t connect.
it shouldn’t have been anyone but lonnie’s responsibility to be will’s dad, but he still wanted someone to fill that hole in his heart, left shattered after the first time lonnie called him gay for crying.
and will wasn’t expecting jack shit out of billy. he was loud and obnoxious and crude and selfish and will wanted nothing to do with the californian.
until the day their av club ran late and, as all the boys were picked up, max and will were the only ones left standing on the steps.
billy’s car was sitting in the high school parking lot, among others, who were staying after for basketball practice or other extra curriuculars.
but jonathan’s car wasn’t there and his mom had the late shift and will wasn’t allowed to ride his bike to school anymore, a stern rule from his mom.
max was waiting on the steps of the middle school since billys practice went until 5:00 and there was still a good ten minutes, plus she didn’t want to leave will alone
when billy eventually came strutting out of the school to his car, 10 minutes later than usual, will was still waiting with max.
“do you need a ride? i can force billy to take you home,” max gave a sheepish smile
“do you think he’ll get mad?”
max shrugged her shoulders in a careless manner before starting to walk down the sidewalk to billy
will followed a step behind and overthought this whole situation. he wasn’t all to sure he wanted to be in a car with the guy who almost ran the party over.
but he had to get home somehow.
“billy, will needs a ride home,” max said, as if there was no room for questioning.
“doesn’t your group ride bikes?”
“i got driven to school today,” wills said, almost inaudibly
billy sighed and took a drag of his cigarette before giving max a glare, then getting into his car, meaning max won the argument.
billy was mean but he’s been left at school because of a careless parent one too many times before getting his liscence.
billy asked only twice which way to go, because he’d only ever driven there from the wheelers, not the school (which was in the opposite direction from the wheelers, but just a mile or two farther than the hargrove-mayfield home)
billy flinched at each rock hit the side of his car as he drove down the bumpy dirt road that led to the byers, cursing at the work he would have to do to clean his car later.
will, who was patiently sat in the back, unbuckled before the car fully stopped an max was getting out, leaning the seat foreward, and letting will go into his house.
billy rolled down the window before will walked in, “hey kid!”
will turned to look at billy cautiously, raising his eyebrows in question
“if you ever need another ride home, i’m expecting you to wash my car after!”
will looked at the car, seeing how muddy the wheels and bottom few inches of the car had gotten compared to the pristine condition of the rest of his car
he nodded and billy rolled up his window, waiting until will got inside before driving away.
max snickered from the passenger seat, “you’re such a softie,”
“am not,”
“i doubt will’s ever washed a car in his life,”
“seriously?” billy raised an eyebrow, glancing over to max
she shrugged, “don’t know,”
two or so months later, billy has developed a routine of driving will home every other tuesday, when joyce and jon are too busy to pick him up.
this one particular tuesday, however, max is home sick, so it’s just going to be the two of them
billy doesn’t see it as being so bad. the av club ends about half an hour before basketball practice does, so will and max usually wait by the car, and when billy walks out, will is looking down at one of his tires
as he gets closer, billy sees that his tire was slashed and completely flat by now, he puffed out a breath angrily as he got closer, and will flinched as he heard billy
“i didn’t do it, i swear, billy—“
“yeah, i know you didn’t do it, kid,”
billy takes a moment to push his anger to that little dark spot in his mind before unlocking his trunk, where he kept a spare tire and car jack
“what’s that?” will asked, referring to the car jack
“what? you’ve never changed a tire before?”
will shook his head no.
billy instructed him to put his bag in the car, then showed will how to position the car jack, then get the car up, then remove and replace the tire.
will’s eyes lit up as he helped billy out the new tire on, never having had a person show him classic-guy things like this. jon just would have called a service or something.
it didn’t end there, though. will started to really enjoy billys company.
he was rough and tough around the edges but very patient with will and understood that he didn’t have much experience in normal life things.
billy even offered to teach will how to shoot a basketball one day when practice was running behind.
it’s not until winter falls into spring that billy teaches will another fantastic life skill.
will comes trudging to the car with max one day in march, head bowed and hoodie covering his face.
billy and max have a silent conversation of ‘what’s up with will’ and ‘don’t ask’
billy doesn’t see it until he’s driving down the road to will’s house and looks in his rear view mirror. there’s a big, blue/red/purple mark on his cheek.
it takes every ounce of power in billy’s body to not track down and kill an 8th grader. but he’s better than that.
as wills getting out of the car to go to his house, billy gets out too, tells max to stay in the car.
“what happened?”
will sighed in defeat, he knew he couldn’t hide it forever, “troy, he’s a dick in my grade and just, hit me today, its not a big deal,”
will looked so dejected at the recap of his day that billy almost hugged him. almost. he had a reputation to upkeep, you know.
“so did you hit him back?”
“i probably would have hurt my hand more than his face if i tried,”
“you don’t know how to punch?”
“do you really think my mom would have taught me how?”
“good point,” billy nodded, taking a moment of silence to think, “are you doing anything this sunday?”
will’s face scrunched up, but he shook his head no. billy had a wicked grin growing on his face.
“perfect. i’m going to teach you how to hit that piece of shit back. i’ll pick you up sunday at one, sound good?”
before will could get a word in, billy was turned around and walking back to the car.
the saturday meet-up wasn’t as bad as wills thought it was gonna be.
billy had picked him up, one on the dot, and driven them out to the old junkyard, bringing a pillow and his toolbox out with him.
he held a pillow to his chest and looked at will. “hit me,”
“what?”
“you wont hurt me, but i brought the pillow so now you especially can’t hurt me, so do it. hit me!”
will gave a weak punch and billy corrected him from there. moved his thumb so he wouldn’t hurt himself, changed the approach, and showed him how to get more power into his hits.
will was a pro by the end of the hour.
“so what’s the toolbox for?” will asked as they were sitting on the hood of a rusty, old car, taking a break
“ahh, the fun part of the afternoon, you mean,”
will raised an eyebrow and watched as billy pulled out a crowbar from the box, handing it to will
“what am i doing with this?”
“hit the car,” billy looked way too excited for this.
when will didn’t move, billy’s shoulders sagged.
“look, it’s therapeutic and these are all dump cars anyway, just start hittin’ it!”
will did, he hit a junky, old, red car as hard as he could and was elated by the huge dent that was pushed in as a result.
“there you go! do it again!” billy encouraged
will did. he hit the car over and over and over.
billy was right, it was therapeutic. every time he had an angry thought, be it about his dad or his bullies, he hit the car and a string that kept him all tied up snapped.
will didn’t even realize he was slowing down until his muscles stopped moving and he had his arms hanging to his sides, crowbar still grasped tightly in his hand.
“feel good?” billy asked, walking closer and taking the crowbar, putting it in the toolbox and locking it, then picking up it and the pillow.
“feels good,” will nodded
billy motioned for will to start walking to where he’d parked the car, only a bit away, so they could go home.
“thank you,” will said as they were driving down the road, music quieter than billy usually played it and a peaceful silence between the two
“what for?”
“doing this... like, manly stuff, i guess. i never knew how to punch or change a tire or play sports before, and it’s been cool hanging out with you,”
will has his whole body turned towards billy (who was peaking glances at him while keeping his eyes on the road).
“i’m glad i can help you out kid. i used to get pushed around a lot, believe it or not, and i wish someone had helped me out and i didn’t have to go it alone, ya know?”
will nodded, glancing out the window and seeing that they were pulling onto his street.
“i’m glad i get to help you out, kid.” billy reached the end of the driveway and parked the car, “let me know if you ever... need a ride to the arcade or something, ok? never be afraid to ask.”
will thanked him again and pushed the door open, going into his house, listening to the camaro’s engine rev after he’d shut the door.
he hadn’t ever had a stable father figure, and he knew billy was too young to be his dad in any sense, but doing things like this made the gap in his heart grow smaller and smaller every day.
because who needs a dad when you’ve got billy hargrove?

Tangled Up - Chapter One
for I am a tardigrade, and I'll stay at home
Benrey's spent 26 years living in a tower - 27, tomorrow. When a thief breaks into his tower, he finds his chance to escape and takes it.
Alternatively: Tangled, but the AI is self aware.
(featuring art by @kenas-artstuff )
Notes: check ao3 for warnings and tags! “kane radio” is just gordon using a fake name. fic title from “tangled up” by caro emerald, chapter title from “tardigrade song” by cosmo sheldrake.
Happy valentines day!!! hope you enjoy <3
AO3 Link
This is not the first time Kane’s come to tied up. It’s not even the first time this week. However, it is the first time he’s come to tied up with ropes made of human hair, and the first time he’s come to with a fucking raccoon shoving its nose in his ear.
So maybe he screams a little. Anyone would! It’s a reasonable reaction.
The hair around his wrists is a shiny blue-black, tough when he pulls at it. Is all hair like that? Is it one of those things that’s fragile individually but super tough all together? Seems like it, because it’s not even budging.
He’s so caught up that he doesn’t notice the person in the shadows until they’re holding out a crowbar, tilting up his chin.
“Yo,” they say, quiet and monotone. “You’re not supposed to be here.”
Kane screams again.
They’re weird looking. Pale, really pale, to the point that Kane wonders if something is wrong with them, and with a dark shadow around their eyes like a bruise that makes him sure. They’ve got on a long dress, all dark blues and lace and fancy embroidery, the kind of thing you’d either have to be rich to buy or have a lot of spare time to make. Their eyes are a bright, bright yellow, almost glowing, sclera a pale blue, and their hair is the same blue-black as the hair around Kane’s wrists - oh, it’s the same hair, isn’t it? Fuck, it’s long.
“You’re not supposed to be here,” the guy says again. “You got, uh. ID? Passport?”
“Passport?” This is - this is insane. This cannot be happening. “What the fuck,” he mumbles, repeating it to himself a few times, “what the fuck, who - who are you?”
The man tilts his head up with his crowbar. "No, no. I asked you first. You're in my house, I ask the questions." His eyes narrow, almost translucent in the light. "What're you doing here? How'd you find me? You gonna steal shit?" His hand goes to his hair, tugging on the blue-black strands. "Gonna steal my hair?"
"Steal your - why would I steal your hair?" The crowbar is cold against his throat, pressing harder every time he speaks. "And aside from that, I'm not here to steal anything. I thought this place was empty so I could use it for - as a shelter! Happy now?" His tone stays steady, confident even, but his hands clutch at the armrests desperately.
“You - huh?” The crowbar pulls back, just enough that Kane’s head can drop, and he sucks in a deep breath while he still can. The crowbar moves away entirely for a moment, as the stranger steps aside to have a whispered conversation with his pet raccoon.
Yeah, this day is weird enough for that to seem normal. Between stealing the prince’s royal helmet, ditching his partner, getting chased by a guard dog, and now this - it’s certainly been a day.
While the guy’s busy, Kane glances around, taking in the sights of the tower. It’s small. Homey. There’s a bed, a kitchen, a couch, bookshelves full of video games and a handful of books. The walls are covered, floor to ceiling, in paintings. When he looks up he realizes it’s not just the walls, the ceiling is painted too. Even the furniture has tiny doodles and carvings in it.
The crowbar slides against his throat again, cutting off his train of thought. "Is it just you?” the stranger asks. “No, uh. Backup? Not gonna...." he trails off, looking at his raccoon again, then back to Kane. "Who are you?"
He gives the man the best smile he can manage, under the circumstances, and says, “I’m Kane. Kane Radio.”
“Kane,” the man repeats. There’s a long pause where the two of them just stare at each other, before he finally adds, “Benrey.” Suddenly he tugs on his hair, pulling Kane closer to him and pushing the crowbar aside. “I wanna make a deal with you.”
“Uhh, yeah, could you get me out of your...hair, first? If that is your hair.” He doesn’t have time to make deals, and he doesn’t like the way Benrey repeated his name. Could he….? No, there’s no way. Kane’s been careful to erase any trace of Gordon Freeman. Of all people to blow his secret it’s not gonna be some random hermit living in a tower. He swallows, appreciating the lack of metal at his throat. “To be honest, I’d rather -”
Aaaand there goes the crowbar again. Shouldn’t have gotten confident. "You're lucky I'm gonna let you leave," Benrey says, voice low. Suddenly he doesn't seem like just a weird guy in a tower. Suddenly he seems like a threat. A choked yelp claws out of Kane’s throat as Benrey tugs on his hair again, pulling Kane close enough that he can see his unnaturally sharp teeth. "Wanna try that again?"
He barely processes the words, focused on the man - man?? - in front of him, the sharp teeth and glowing eyes and the crowbar pressing his throat shut, or maybe that’s just anxiety. It occurs to him that maybe this guy isn’t human.
His smile is nowhere near its usual confidence, but he tries to grin anyway. “S-so, uh, what...what was that deal? Benrey?”
Benrey’s face splits into a grin, and suddenly he’s just...a guy again. A weird guy! A weird, unsettling guy, with eyes that are too bright and teeth that are too sharp and hair that is way too long, but a guy. The crowbar is lowered and Benrey steps back, clambering up his fireplace and pulling back a red curtain. Behind it is...a painting? Still semi-fresh, from the looks of it, in the same style that all the other paintings are. This one depicts the floating lanterns they do for the prince's birthday. There’s all sorts of colors, blue and silver and pink and green, and below the sky is a hill with a small figure on it with long black hair.
"You know what these are?" he asks, pointing a finger at a pink light.
Kane exhales slowly. Benrey’s gonna push that crowbar against him again any second now, so he might as well enjoy breathing while he can. Fuck, he’d almost rather go back outside and deal with the guard dog that chased him here. “Yeah,” he says, voice shaking, and he clears his throat before he continues. “The lanterns for the lost prince.” Is Benrey fucking with him? Everyone knows the lanterns. Kane’s never even been to a lantern ceremony himself but he still knows what they are. He’d need a serious head injury to forget that, and while his head hurts a bit it’s certainly not that bad.
Benrey does not seem to be fucking with him, because he does a little cheer and fist pump. “I knew they weren’t stars,” he mumbles to himself, before turning back to Kane. Louder, he says, "I want you to take me there. To see 'em." He pulls the curtain back over and jumps down from the mantle, landing on the floor with a heavy thud. "Think you can manage that? Just there and back and I don't, uh. Y'know." He glances at the window. Kane follows his gaze, picturing Benrey launching his body out of it, and shudders. "Pretty good deal, I think."
Kane’s breath comes out in a panicked hiss.”W-well, that's not really a good idea right now, since I shouldn’t show my face in the kingdom right now considering I -" oh shit. "Oh shit. My satchel! Where is my satchel?!"
Benrey raises an eyebrow, smirking at him. “Oh, the bag thingy? I hid it. Mine now.” His smug face is the most infuriating thing Kane has ever seen, and he’d be throwing a punch if he wasn’t fucking tied to a chair. Benrey continues, "If you want it, you gotta earn it. You take me to the lanterns, I give you your satchel. Deal?"
Hid it. He said he hid it, so it’s….somewhere in here, probably, and once Kane realizes that it’s easy to figure out. He nods his head at a flowerpot. “It’s in there, huh?”
Benrey raises the crowbar again.
Oh, shit. “W-wait, no no no, no need to hit me!” He shuts his eyes, wishing he could move his arms to protect himself. He does not need any more head trauma, thank you very much.
This guy really won’t hesitate to kill him, huh? This stupid deal is his only real option. Kane sighs, keeping his eyes shut. "L-look, I'll keep my eyes shut like this? And you can hide my satchel somewhere else. No peeking. I'll agree to the deal. Just - my head already feels like splitting."
A pause. Kane almost considers opening his eyes but keeps them shut. Finally he hears Benrey’s voice again. “No peeking,” he repeats. There’s a series of shuffling noises, bare feet and raccoon claws against the floor, and then a moment later: “Okay. You can open your eyes.”
The satchel is nowhere to be seen, without even a hint to where it might be hiding. He sighs, head dropping forward before he looks up at Benrey again. "If I'm gonna agree to this, let me ask at least one question. Why do you wanna see them so badly, and why would you need an escort for that?"
Benrey’s face goes blank. “Uhhhh,” is all he says, followed by a long pause, leaving Kane worried he broke him somehow, but finally Benrey continues. "That's, uh. None of your business. 's just - it's, uh, dangerous. Out there. For me. Need a....need a guide."
Huh. Sheltered, maybe? Benrey seems...well, a little off, to be blunt. He can’t be much younger than Kane is, but he doesn’t even know about the lanterns. Overprotective parent seems a likely answer, but whatever the reason, now’s not the time to pry. “Alright, yeah, none of my business. Okay. We go see the lanterns, come back, you give me the satchel, yeah? Deal?”
“Deal,” Benrey agrees.
“Okay. Does that mean you can untie me now?”
-----
The thing about spending 27 years in a tower, knowing that this is where you’re going to spend your entire life, is that when you get the option to leave it’s kind of the scariest thing imaginable.
Kane’s already climbed down, leaning against a tree while Benrey stands on the ledge. Physically, he’s ready. He’s got his hair wrapped around the lever, ready to swing down, ready to go, to get out of the stupid fucking tower and out into the real world, except -
Except -
“You are never leaving this tower.” Zeki’s hands are on his shoulder, nails digging in. “Do you understand?”
Benrey reaches back, trying to grab at the closet. “But -”
“The outside world isn’t safe for you. You aren’t safe for it. If you went outside, you know what would happen?”
“Huh?”
“Look at you.” She grabs his hand roughly, pulling him over to the mirror. “They’ll take one look at you, and they’ll know, and then what? You’ll fight back. You’ll hurt people. You’re dangerous.”
It’s nothing new, but. He thinks about the man he has stuffed into his closet. He didn’t hurt him. He’ll be fine! “But -”
“This isn’t up for discussion. You. Are not. Leaving. Ever. Do you understand me or not?”
He stares at the mirror, looking between himself and Zeki. She’s looked the same as long as he can remember, brown hair always pulled into a bun and dark green eyes, pale skin but not in the same way Benrey is pale. She’s human. He’s not. And she’s right, that anyone who looks at him is gonna know. That’s why he’s up here, where it’s safe. Where no one can hurt him. And, more importantly, where he can’t hurt anyone else.
“I understand,” Benrey mumbles.
“Good.”
“I, uh. I thought of - I came up with something better. For a, uh. Birthday thingy.”
Zeki turns away from the mirror, towards Benrey. “Oh?”
“You got me that - the paint. Last year. The white one?”
“That’s a long trip,” she says, pursing her lips.
“I won’t ask about the. The stars. Or going outside. Or anything of that. I’ll, uh -” He glances at the dresser, the one where she keeps her lab coat. “I’ll make up for it.”
There’s a glint in her eyes, sharp like her favourite knife. “Fine. I’ll get you the paint.” Her face softens as she places a hand on Benrey’s head. “I’m only doing this to protect you.”
“I know,” he mumbles, as she steps away to gather her things. “I know.”
“Benrey?” Kane yells. “Are you gonna move or what?”
He jumps.
The fall is intense. Wind in his hair, sun on his face, watching the ground get closer - oh that’s close. Oh that’s very close. He stops just a few inches off the ground, hesitating once again. There’s no going back from this. The grass is so much greener than he expected, bright and shiny in the sun, drops of dew still lingering, and before he can spiral further he puts his foot down. When nothing happens - no monster appears, no pit opens up and swallows him - he puts both feet on the ground, the blades of grass tickling him.
A quick tug, and he pulls his hair down from the lever, watching it fall to the ground, and then joins it. The grass is still damp underneath him, but the sun above is warm. He’s getting covered in dew and dirt and bits of grass and he can’t find it in him to care, busy savoring the feeling he’s dreamed of for so long.
It’s not until he stands up that he realizes the bulk on his hair landed directly on Kane. He starts shoving hair aside, Jefferem lending a set of tiny hands as extra help. “You good?” Benrey asks, as Kane’s head becomes visible.
Kane huffs, struggling to stand. “Apart from being attacked by your mane, yeah, I'm fine. Can you help me out?”
Benrey holds out an arm. Pulling Kane up proves easier than he thought, and he pulls a little too hard, almost slamming Kane into him, the two of them pressed together for a moment before Kane coughs and steps back. Benrey takes a moment to half-heartedly brush some dirt and grass out of his hair and off his clothes, looking at Kane. “Guide time?”
Kane blinks at him, not bothering to clean off his clothing. “Uh - yeah. Guide time. Let’s go!” His steps are loud as he walks away.
Benrey’s footsteps are almost inaudible as he follows, crowbar gripped tight in his hands. The initial adrenaline is starting to fade, doubt settling in. Maybe this was a bad idea. It’s not too late to turn around and go back.
He shakes his head. Lost in his own thoughts, he’s fallen behind, and he has to sprint to catch up. Hoping not to zone out again, he starts talking, letting the first thing he can think of fall out of his mouth. “The lights - the lanterns. You said they were for a...prince?”
They enter a small stone tunnel as Kane answers. His voice is soft. “Every year, on the prince’s birthday, the kings - and the whole kingdom - release a swarm of lanterns,” he explains, voice echoing. It turns theatrical as he continues. “See, their little boy was snatched away as a baby, by an evil wizard! Or...something like that, at least. They’re hoping the lanterns will bring him back.”
“On his birthday?” Benrey echoes. Weird coincidence. A moment passes while Benrey busies himself with touching the walls of the tunnel. “And they still haven’t found him? Why’re they still doing the lanterns if it doesn’t work?”
Kane’s voice is softer, more subdued when he responds. "The kings still have hope that their baby boy will return someday. It's a very human thing in my opinion."
Ah. Human thing. That explains why Benrey doesn’t understand.
Kane pokes his head through the ivy, waiting a moment before ducking back and lifting it to let Benrey through. “We’re clear.”
Raising an eyebrow, Benrey repeats, “Clear?” Is something following them, or is Kane just paranoid? Or maybe Benrey is reading too much into things. Maybe it’s normal to check for stuff like that. Not like he would know.
"Ah - well, I told you earlier, didn't I? The kingdom and I aren't... quite buddy buddy at the moment." As they walk, he keeps looking around, eyes darting back and forth. "But don't worry, it shouldn't be a big problem for our objective."
Oh. Maybe he should’ve paid more attention to what Kane was saying earlier. Too late for that now, though. “So I was right? You a little - thief boy, huh? Stealing shit?” It’s mostly a guess, but he can’t picture this guy doing any real crime. His satchel probably had some stolen shit in it and that’s why he wants it back so bad. Well, better to team up with a criminal than a guard or something, considering all the rules Benrey’s breaking.
“Why do you keep insisting I steal shit?” Kane asks, looking away from Benrey. He doesn’t even give him time to answer, immediately following it with, “Hey, you hungry?”
Immediately changing the subject, huh? Now that’s suspicious. Admittedly he is a little hungry, and curious about where they’d be getting food out here. “Only if you’re not gonna steal it.”
Kane’s mouth screws up, eyes narrowing with a scoff. “I know a good place to get food. On our way, too. My friend works there.”
Oh shit, other people. He hesitates a moment before nodding. “Sure. Sure, yeah.”
Kane squints at him again. “You're not really an outside person huh? Have you...Have you ever been outside before?”
Damn, okay, just gonna straight up ask. Benrey opens his mouth to answer and then stops. “You answer my question first.” He’s not looking at Kane as he talks, eyes on the road ahead.
A groan in response, and then, “Fine, neither of us get an answer, then.” Kane picks up his pace, quickly getting ahead of Benrey.
“Someone’s grumpy,” Benrey mutters, rushing to catch up again. Kane’s anger surprises him. “I don’t care if you are. I’m breaking like....every rule possible just being here.” He pauses, scuffing at the dirt. “‘s all cool. Y’know. Be gay, do crime.”
Kane bursts into laughter, stopping in the road for a second. “Real rebel, huh?” he asks, shooting Benrey a grin that he returns nervously. “Fitting, then, for you to break out with a thief.”
Benrey’s grin widens, delighted. “Hah! I was right.”
“Yeah, yeah, congratulations, Blueberry.” The smile twists at the corners, as Kane leans closer to Benrey. “But that means we’re in my business now. So what about yours? You said you're breaking every rule right now. So... you weren't allowed outside that tower for some reason?”
That same empty expression makes a return as Benrey freezes. Twirling a strand of hair around his fingers, he clears his throat, forcing himself to start moving again. Walked right into that one, huh? And he’s not a coward, he’s not gonna refuse to answer after he finally got Kane to admit something. “Yeah,” he mumbles. “I, uh. Yeah. Not allowed. Very not allowed.”
If Zeki knew what he was doing right now - she’d kill him. Worse than kill him. Beside him, Kane’s gaze is soft, head tilted and eyebrows furrowed.
“Well…” he starts, “sometimes, you just gotta do what feels right, even if it hurts or makes someone mad. Trust me on that, I know from experience.” To punctuate his last words, he nudges against Benrey’s arm, almost affectionate. Benrey jumps for a second, hand darting to touch the spot Kane had brushed against, almost expecting it to feel different somehow. But no, it’s just his arm.
“Experience,” he repeats quietly. “Uh, yeah. I mean - I’m here.”
“That you are, Mr. Independent.”

When I’m Watching You Watch Him
Jason X Reader
Mention of Dick X Reader
A/N: Got hit with an oldie but good song. Watching You Watch Him by Eric Hutchinson, just makes me feel all sorts of ways. Anywho, my friend was making me binge some of the animated DC films with her and this just kinda happened, my bad.
------------------------------------------------
I love you from the bottom of my heart
And that's not gonna change, but things look grim
Oh, Jason had it bad. Really, really bad. Just watching her do the simplest of things made him melt into a puddle.
He had a slight crush on (y/n) before he died. And not to be dramatic or anything, but after all the care and time she had put into helping him recover he’s pretty sure she could hit him with a crowbar and he’d still put a ring on it.
What did all those gen-z toddlers call it, simping? Yeah, he was kinda a simp for her at this point, and there was use trying to escape the reality of it. Everywhere his mind took him always brought him back to the same thought, (y/n). That’s fine though, he wouldn’t have it any other way.
He was a man damned to eternal hell in the presence of a blessed angel from the highs of heaven. Well shit, this ain't gonna go well.
When I'm watching you watch him
Christ, there she goes again looking at his goddamn brother. Dick fucking Grayson, golden boy himself, the first boy wonder. All eyes were only Dick as he told countless tails in remarkable detail at the large round table. She watched him from across the table, an unmistakable sparkle in those lively (e/c) eyes of hers.
“C’mon (y/n) bring those pretty eyes this way,” Jason whispered quietly enough as to not be heard.
Both elbows of his elbows were on the table which was something that would drive Alfred insane. One hand tapped idly on the oak surface, and the palm of the other held his heavy head. His gaze focused on her, taking every feature, loving each and every bit of the angel before him.
He knew he didn’t deserve her, but he couldn’t help but yearn for her anyways. Hell she deserved better than anyone in this damned family.
I give you the best a man can hope to give
He wants nothing more than to spoil her. And just when she thinks she’s seen it all he’ll surprise her with something new and filled with love.
Jason would do anything for her, if only she would only let him. He could repay all the love she put into him at least ten fold.
But I'm not feeling brave
Chances are slim
Jason was a man of action, words were never really his forte. But, of course it was something his brother excelled at. Capturing every spot light within miles of his being, there never seemed to be a moment when attention strayed from the eldest.
Of course there was so much Jason wanted to say to (y/n). However, everytime he got the chance, her attention was always pulled somewhere else. And when she came back to ask him what he wanted to say, he would always brush it off, completely missing his shot. So all the things he wanted to say went unsaid.
One would figure that literature would have maybe taught him something about wooing a lady, but alas, he is a hopeless romantic with no idea how to talk to his crush.
When I'm watching you watch him
Today was the day of another gala Jason was forced to attend. That meant that he had to dress to impress, tux and all, much to his dismay.
Jason of course arrives early to help Alfred prep with the rest of the boys. Which never ended well. When he opened the door he was greeted by the sadly normal sight of Damian attempting to choke Tim, and while most time he would have joined in the chaos, a dolled up damsel caught his gaze.
(Y/n) was trying to persuade Damian to let Tim go. She offered him cookies, however, Damian was not fazed.
God she was gorgeous, he thought. Lightly applied makeup on her already flawless complection, a dress complimenting her figure perfectly, hair topping it all off to complete the look. She was just, so her, and he loved it.
Just as he was about to lend a helping hand in her efforts, Dick stepped in to physically separate the two boys. Jason could only watch as she blushed when that dumbass winked towards her. Damian, of course, ran to her glaring at Tim as he asked for the promised cookie. Dick laughed as she raised a questioning brow at the boy hugging her waist. Jason let out a sign, walking past them to the kitchen, occasionally glancing at her, desperate for her to return his stares.
Oh, what is left to learn
When he will let you crash and burn
Dick was quite the flirt, it wasn’t hard for anyone to figure out upon meeting him. He flirted with every single person, heck he would probably flirt with a dog. Jason shuttered at the thought.
All Dick’s life he has been a player, toying around with others' feelings. A complete heartbreaker. It kills Jason to know that she could possibly become one of the many victims burned by his games.
He never gives attention
But you still yearn
It's obvious to Jason that she was enraptured by Dick, falling for all his empty flirting. Or at least that’s how he saw it. If only she could see it the way Jason did. Maybe then her heart wouldn’t ache for someone who never who would never see her in a romantic way.
Part of Jason is relieved that Dick isn’t into her. But still….
Where do I fit in
There she was sitting next to Damian who was fiddling with her fingers out of boredom. It was kinda sweet how motherly she was to him. And anyone could tell just how much that little demon spawn looked up to her. (Y/n) was someone Damian values above all others, even Dick. He was stuck to her side every moment he could be, only acting his real age around her. She just had that effect on him and Jason has no idea how she does it.
Every Wayne had a special place in her heart, just like she held a special place in theirs. The whole family was like her own, they were a family she never had growing up all alone in the streets of Gotham.
The same exact streets he spent most of his childhood wonder around. Having a similar past made it easy for the two to bond. Exchanging memories of hardships and prosperities while laying on the roof of Wayne Enterprise, tracing out shapes made from glowing stars in the moonlit sky.
When I’m watching you watch him
Jason sat alone sipping whiskey from the canteen tucked in the inside of his coat pocket. He could just tell by the way she was looking at his older brother who was dancing between a crowd of ladies that it was going to be a very very long night.
God only knows why I still wait around
Except I hate to see you cry
He doesn’t understand how Dick could just ignore her loving gazes. Does Dick not understand that the woman Jason practically worshipped was crying out for his attention? What a dumbass, Jason thought.
And I need you
But there are things I cannot do
If only Jason had the balls to go over there and ask her to dance. Steal her attention away from that play boy and focus it on the man who would die for her in a heartbeat. (Y/n) was his salvation, his savior from the twisted shadow that darkened all that good in his mind after being revived.
Though his mind was screaming at him to comfort her, he physically could not approach her. Not even Jason himself understood what was holding him back, it was not pride, not masculinity, god knows he would scrap all of that for her.
Maybe it was fear, the fear of not being good enough. The fear of being rejected by her angelic self.
Man, he sighed taking another swig of the bitter liquid, it was indeed going to be a long night.
And I want you
When he’s playing all his games
Jason watched her the whole night, even when she got her turn to dance with Dick. The sight really tore Jason to pieces. He would almost rather get beaten with a crowbar then watch that ever again.
It was hard to pick between swooning over the smiles and giggles passing those luscious lips of her and punching the absolute shit out of Dick as he led her on. But, he chose to just let her be happy for the moment.
However that moment was short lived as people who stood idly on the side were pulling into the center of the room to dance. Every time someone tried to coax him over he would snap at them. That was until she held out both of her hands out to him, at first he shook her off. But, unfortunately for him, (y/n) was just as stubborn as he was and she was going to get him out on that floor even if it was the last thing she ever did.
Puffing out her chest strut over to his isolated figure. Oh, how he wished she had not come over to him. Who the hell was he if he had denied the pouty expression on her face that was supposed to be a menacing glare.
And it gets hard to tell who's the victim
Both of them danced the longest together which kinda pissed off the baby bat who wanted her attention oh so badly. Jason could give less of a shit thought, he was going to make the most of this moment.
Two partner rotations had gone by as people swayed with the music, but he wasn’t quite ready to give her up. Life, like always, didn’t seem to want to comply with Jason’s wishes as she was swiped from him amongst the crowd as another person was thrown into him.
The two youngest were quick to catch onto Jason’s dilemma. Tim felt kinda bad, the longing stares of a broken man really did a number on the sleep deprived boy’s heart strings. Damian pretended to not give two shits, he values Dick as an important role model, but even Damian knew that Dick was no good for his beloved Ummi. If Damian had to choose between the two, he would rather her go with Jason.
When I’m watching you watch him
The cycle continued just as it had for months on end. Jason would look her way, but his gaze was never returned.
Oh, what is left to learn to learn
When he would let you crash and burn
She would give her romantic affection to the eldest, just like she alway had. And in return Dick strung her along like a lovesick puppy on a loose leash. Never committing to her, but flirting just enough to keep her hooked on in his delusional version of love.
He never gives attention
But you still yearn
One day, Jason prays, one day she will look his way. Giving her even more love then she could ever hope for.
But, that day is not today, or the next day, or the day after that. All he can do is wait hopelessly from his spot.
Where do I fit
Sometimes he wonders if she even sees him anymore. He feels as though he has become nothing but a forgotten memory filed in the back of that pretty head of hers.
Jason can only hope that one day she will see him the same way he sees her.
When I’m watching you watch him
As of lately something seemed to be off. Her eyes weren’t as bright as they were. She carried herself in an anxious manner, constantly fidgeting with the hem of her shirt.
It concerned Jason to no end. He had no idea why she was acting the way she was, and no matter how far he dug nothing came up. And it aggravated him that Dick ignored her strange behavior, it really wasn’t that hard for someone to tell something was off if they had been around her as long as the Wayne's have.
Hell, even Damian took notice of her distressed figure. Her state caused the brat to cling to her hip even more than normal. Occasionally, Damian would send a glare the golden boy’s way as he approached the two. Damian’s worried expression shifts to her face to Jason’s stares in a pleading manner. It was if he was asking Jason to do something. Fix her, help her, comfort her; do something dammit.
God only known why I still wait around
Except I hate to see you cry
Imagine his surprise when the angel of his dreams shows up at his door in the middle of the night, tears staining the soft skin of her cheeks. Her eyes were red and puffy, it's not hard to tell that she had been crying for a couple of hours.
One of Jason’s old oversized sweatshirts draped over her much smaller frame. She bunched up one of the giant sleeves, a heap of fabric gathered into the palm of her still covered hand. Using the sleeve she wiped her wet eyes making tiny splotches of the fabric darken from the salty liquid.
Oh God, he didn’t know what good he had done for her to show up at his doorstep, but he wasn’t going to question it.
And I need you
But there are things I cannot do
(Y/n) was a sight for sore eyes, even in her grief stricken state.
Gathering her into his arms, Jason pulled her into the apartment quietly shutting the door behind her as to not startle her any further.
Jason had an idea as of why she was upset. Dick stood her up for their weekly coffee get together for the second time this month, opting to hang out with some whore he met at the gala the other month.
It was pathetic really. Dick had no concern for (y/n)’s feelings and it made Jason’s blood boil dangerously close to the lip of the pot.
And while this probably would have flustered him in any other scenario, leading to him awkwardly patting her back or something. But, there was only one thing going through his mind at this point. Comforting her. Making all her problems become nothing but a long forgotten memory.
And I love you
Like a broken record plays
But I’m a window pane
A phantom limb
No matter how much it hurt him to hold her so close, knowing that she didn’t return his fatal feeling, killed him all over again. However, he would suck it up to if it meant bringing a smile back to that gorgeous face of hers.
He’s a sucker for her, but at least he knows it. Jason might not be able to admit it in words, but he did his best to relay it through actions.
When I’m watching you watch him
“That woman was right, I’m just not worth it,” She whispered through hiccups.
Jason’s eyes shot down to her in utter shock, his grip involuntary tightening on her frame, causing her to let out a small squeak.
What did that filthy pig say to his angel? That gold digger didn’t have a clue what the word meant. Oh, Dick was in for it the next time he came around.
“I don’t know what upsets me more,” Jason muttered gently, “the fact that she said that or the fact that you actually believe that bitch.”
Clearly his statement caught her attention. Glossy eyes pooling with salty tears threatening to spill over peered into his own.
Fuck it, he thought, its now or never.
Taking a deep breath, exhaling hot air through his nose, he threw everything worry and doubt out the window and took his chances.
No matter how many times she tried to wipe her tears, they just kept coming as he spilled out all his thoughts about her. Telling her just how priceless she was to him. Jason made sure not to skip out on even the slightest of detail. His walls shattered, heart lying bare and utterly vulnerable before her. He, himself, couldn’t help but let a couple tears cascade down.
Taking her other dry sleeve she brought it to his face, gently wiping the water droplets away as they fell. All this time she has been looking at the wrong man. Listening as Jason’s walls shattered rekindled those mushy feelings she had for him back before his Robin days. Back during the times when they could care less about the world as they fought the harsh world side by side.
Those feelings she pushed down when he came back guns blazing. When he disregarded everything he once had, putting all his pain into the bullets in the barrels of his guns. Though she never gave up on him, it was hard for her. All he did back then was push her away, giving her the cold shoulder time after time again. Though all her efforts were kicked to the side and stomped on at the time.
Dick was the only one to comfort her back then. Maybe it was the comfort and reassurance that drew her to him all those times, but what does it matter anymore.
When I’m watching you watch him
Little did they know the two nosey pairs of eyes watching them through the window from a roof a couple buildings over. Binoculars peered into the living room where Jason and (y/n) rocked back and forth on their feet in each other's embrace.
Smack!
Both Red Robin and Robin let of a high pitched yelp as the binoculars were swiped from their faces. They stared at each other with wide eyes of surprise, a heavy grunt brought them from their daze. Neither one of them wanted to look behind, acting like toddlers being caught doing something they knew they weren’t supposed to.
To giant gloved hands extended palms up in front of their faces, a wordless demand to hand over the devices. Of course they did as they were told, but not without complaining and throwing a couple jabs at one another. The boys headed in the opposite direction to patrol the remainder of the city.
Once they were out of sight, Batman put the binoculars to his eyes. A rare smile graced his rough feature at the sight of the two. Hooking the lenses to his belt he went after the bickering boys.
It was a start. It was their start. The start of something beautiful in the years to come.

The Moon - Yandere! Jungkook x reader
The Tarot Series

“We can’t ignore reality, (Y/N).” Yoongi sighed, rubbing her back as she sobbed into his chest. “He’s dangerous. Even if the claims haven’t gone to court, you need to stay away from him.”
“He isn’t like that.” The young woman sniffed loudly. “Kookie wouldn’t hurt a fly.”
“Shhh, it’s okay.” With his newly acquired police badge, Yoongi had felt a sudden protectiveness over (Y/N) and her fragile demanour. “Would you like to stay at my apartment tonight? It’s a lot safer.”
She nodded, curling her hand into his with a shy smile as he led her to his car. Yoongi was safe, he could be trusted. Even if her heart was calling out for Jungkook, and he could hear her loud and clear.
(Y/N) settled into the car seat, resting her head in the hopes that she could fall asleep and erase the past twelve hours, from Jungkook arriving home with a split lip and black eye, to Yoongi arriving that morning to show her the police report being filed against her boyfriend and offering her sanctuary.
However, her wishes of a peaceful nap were interrupted by her phone vibrating in her back pocket, and when she peeled her eyes open to see who was calling her she saw her beloved boyfriend’s name in bold print accompanied by the cute heart emoji he’d insisted she added to his contact.
She glanced to the right, seeing Yoongi was still focused on the road, and shakily pressed the accept call on her phone holding it up to her ear. She knew her friend would disapprove, but she wanted to hear from Jungkook, to be told that everything would be fine.
“(Y/N)? Where are you?” The volume on her phone was way too loud, and Jungkook’s voice was heard by Yoongi.
“(Y/N). Hang up the phone.” He said, eyes still on the road but his grip on the steering wheel getting tighter until his knuckles were white. “He’s only trying to get you back. He’s dangerous.”
(Y/N) couldn’t find it in herself to respond, not to her boyfriend on the phone who was continuing to try and converse with her nor to Yoongi.
Thus, Yoongi left his right hand on the steering wheel and used his left to snatch the phone out of her hand and throw it out of the window, hearing the satisfying crunch as it hit the tarmac.
“We can get you a replacement. But for now, not giving him contact with you is of the utmost importance.”
*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*
As Yoongi lay awake that night, all that she could think about was Jungkook. Maybe he had been wrong? Jungkook loved (Y/N), that fact could not be disputed. And surely he should trust his friend’s intuition about her own boyfriend?
His stomach growled loudly, having missed out on dinner due to the sick feeling in his stomach. Thus, he crawled out of bed and plodded to the kitchen to find a packet of instant ramen.
What he found, rather than the snack that was calling his name, was a shadowy figure prying open his window with a crowbar. Upon this sight Yoongi stumbled back in surprise, reaching out to find something he could protect himself with.
The intruder immediately looked up, alarmed. And even in the darkness of the night, his moon-lit features were unmistakable.
“Jungkook?”
He was frozen in place. But at that point, there was no doubting it was him breaking into the house.
“Min Yoongi.” He swung his body fully through the window, closing it behind him.
“Get out of my house!” He snapped. “If you’re not back out of that window in the next ten seconds, it is within my jurisdiction as a police officer to arrest you for breaking and entering.”
“We have some serious business. I’m not going anywhere.” Gone was the sweet boy that Yoongi had first been introduced to by (Y/N). This man was intimidating, cold and had a thirst for blood. No doubt, Jungkook was the man who’d assaulted her brother.
“You are not welcome in this home. If you’d like to have a discussion I can take you down to the station first thing tomorrow morning.” Yoongi hissed, keeping his voice low in fear of waking (Y/N) up.
Jungkook didn’t reply, simply twisting the crowbar around in his hands with a frustrated gaze.
“Where is (Y/N)? She’s not at home. And I’m almost certain that’s due to your intervention.” The young man finally spoke up. “You were with her when I called her, and I want to know where you’ve taken her.”
“You’re a threat to her safety. She’s in a safe place.” Yoongi, in the dark, had managed to find his belt lying haphazardly on the sofa and was drawing the pepper spray and handcuffs out as smoothly and silently as possible.
“Tell me.” Jungkook replied simply. “Tell me, or I will beat your damn brains in Min Yoongi. Don’t test me.”
“Threatening a police officer? Not a smart move, Jeon. Drop your weapon and leave, and we can forget all this.” Yonngi’s heart was pounding, with the fear of what could happen to him, or even (Y/N).
“I don’t think so.” Before Jungkook could attack, he found himself wrestled to the ground, with Yoongi handcuffing his wrists and whispering his rights into his ear.
Jungkook was practically seething, trying to buck Yoongi off of him but finding himself completely immobilised.
“I can’t wait to see you rot in jail for all you’ve done.” Yoongi said triumphantly, breathing heavily. “We’ll put you under a restraining order so you’ll never see (Y/N) again, you crazy bastard.”
His words were enough to spark a new rush of energy from Jungkook, adrenaline from the thought of being separated from his beloved (Y/N).
He managed to push Yoongi away and struggle to his feet, thankful that his hands had mistakenly been cuffed in front of him by the newbie cop.
Finding the glass jug on the counter he smashed it into Yoongi’s face, resulting in him letting out a cry of pain and falling back clutching his now bleeding features.
All Jungkook could see was red, the desire to hurt Yoongi for his gross intervention into (Y/N)’s life blinding him to everything else.
*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*
Unbeknownst to the intruder, (Y/N) had woken up when she heard Yoongi’s cry of pain and had immediately gotten out of bed and found her phone. God knows if Yoongi couldn;t handle them, (Y/N) had no chance, but first she had to assess the situation. She found her way through the dark hallway to the kitchen door, trying to qualm her fears as she heard more struggling. With no other option, she peeked around the doorway for a second.
Yoongi was on his knees, clutching at his neck. Someone was behind him, using the handcuffs on their wrists to apply more and more pressure. (Y/N) unknowingly let out a gasp, causing both men to notice their audience. With his attacker now in shock, Yoongi quickly removed the cuffs from around his neck and rolled out of the way.
“(Y/N)...?” She could never forget that voice. “(Y/N), baby, I missed you.”
“Jungkook? What are you doing here? And why… why were you just about to kill Yoongi?”
For a few moments there was silence, intermittent with Yoongi’s heavy breathing as he tried to get his breath back. Jungkook just stared at (Y/N) like a deer caught in headlights, as she tried to process the situation.
“Now do you believe me (Y/N)? Look at him, he’s off his rocker!” Yoongi spat, still breathing heavily.
“If anything he’s the crazy one!” Jungkook shot back, eyes wide to convince (Y/N). “Look, he’s trying to tear us apart! He just doesn’t understand us, he thinks he knows better when ultimately he wants you all to himself.”
The back and forth was making (Y/N)’s head spin. She wanted more than anything to believe in Jungkook with all her heart. He’d been her world for nearly a year. The soft face of the boy who’d taken her out to the lakes to watch the sunset or spent nights curled up with her in bed when the heater broke could not be that of a psychopath surely. Yet she trusted Yoongi, perhaps even more than her own heart.
“Jungkook… you want me to come with you, right?” He cocked his head, a happy grin on his face.
“Come here baby, I’ve missed you so much.” He gestured to her with his cuffed hands. “Let’s go home.”
“But all of my stuff is here! Will you help me pack?” (Y/N) whined, subtly making eye contact with Yoongi as she spoke. Jungkook blushed and nodded.
“Just let me do one last thing.” He delivered a swift kick to Yoongi’s side, the officer doubling over in pain. Jungkook found the keys to his handcuffs and dropped his former bondage besides the cop mockingly before taking her hand. “Lead the way baby. Let’s hurry.”
(Y/N) tried as hard as she could to not give off any signs of what she was planning to do. Jungkook luckily hadn’t caught on to her. He was still running on adrenaline, all of his hope renewed by (Y/N) taking his hand.
“If you start packing your clothes-” As soon as Jungkook’s back was turned, (Y/N) knew she had one chance. To make things right.
She stealthily sought out the thick hardcover book. Whilst the woes of a middle aged woman and her alcoholism hadn’t made for an easy read, the novel was going to prove itself very useful to her. Without hesitation she brought it down on the back on his neck.
Jungkook crashed to the floor, but (Y/N) didn’t hesitate for a second in straddling the obsessive freak and calling out for Yoongi.
It hurt. So much to see the tears dripping down Jungkook’s beautiful face as he was once again restrained, the officer now taking no chances and tightening the cuffs until they dug into his skin. Even with Jungkook’s crestfallen disposition threatening to guilt (Y/N), she wasn’t ready to give in to him. She knew who he truly was.

Not just a Monster
Warning: Blood, Violence, death
24: Secrets out
Read 3rd P.O.V
Soo-Nico laid on top of the other dead body's some of her group and others of the invaders. Flies were landing on them as blood seemed in more through their clothes creating large puddles of different types of blood.
The monster inside of Soo-Nico was beginning to fester. Taking over every inch of her body, telling the dying girl to wake up. That it wasn't her time or ever will be inevitable. She was going to evolve into something much more stronger and powerful.
In no time she'll be a ticking time bomb, as her wound was healing already. It would be like nothing had happened. The color was coming back to her ghostly green pale skin going back to its original color Gradually.
" come on!" Her inside monster would yell. " get up." Even though the monster wasn't supposed to care or worry about its host it somehow felt bad. I remembered when I said I'll be real soon the desire to resist us too tempting.
Maybe it was time for it. She couldn't stay full human forever. For humans to survive, they would have to change it was the only way as Soo-Nico had no choice but to Evolve.
Her body gave into the deep void of death that wanted to swallow her whole. Her fingers and toes started to twitch one by one her chest began to rise up and down again.
Then all in one moment her lids flashed open revealing nothing but fully black eyes. Tears dripped from down them As her head inhumanely twisted from side to side giving off sinister smile.
" They think they can kill me?" She laughed crazily, " oh, they can try but they can't kill the desires that are inside!" Soo-Nico sat up. Staring at the dead bodies she sat on top of.
" They can't kill my friends!" Those were the last words that slip out of her bloodied-up dried lips. Thinking about her friends. Those invaders were all going to die.
Soo-Nico P.O.V
When I woke up I didn't recognize myself. I didn't know why I was crying? However, I began to smile, for some reason looking from side to side I felt different.
It was like I had awoken in someone else's body. Soon a couple of memories came flooding back to the surface of my brain. Little fragments here and there. I had stayed with a group inside this apartment building.
But I can't remember anyone else or anything before I came here? I wondered why I was In a darkish closet that smelled weird. And files were everywhere.
I then realized what happened invaders had come in. Attacking my people killing some and trying to kill me in the process little did they know? My smile widened. " they think they can kill me?" I began to laugh and not the type where I find something funny.
" oh, they can try but they can't kill these desire inside!" I desired to get back at the ones who harmed me did me wrong they were foolish just to kill anyone. I sat up seeing the dead bodies my some of my people, and the invaders.
" They can't kill my friends!" those were the last words that left my lips that tasted strange and felt dry. I thought about my friends and how the others were going to die for what they did.
Standing up I walked towards the door grasping the nob opening it slowly. The light was bright that I had to Squint my eyes and look away for a moment. The air was filled with dust and smoke giving off a haze.
I stayed there for a few seconds until continuing. Soon a dead body came into view it was on fire. It was Sun-Young. Guess she turned too.
Passing the Elevators and the large column that was right around the corner a large man was standing in front of a group I knew who they were.
Their faces showed sorrow, " she's going to die isn't she?" The man with the glasses said. But the guy with the gun wasn't so thrilled and told him to shut up.
Threatening him with his gun, no one noticed me yet as I was standing in someone's blood. Soon others came in I recognized one, with the crazy hair and the sickening urges for girls.
I felt my fingers' nails sharp as I clenched my fist. I wanted to kill him. " Where the hell have you been?!" The man that was guarding asked. " Shut your trap your breath stinks—" he glanced over at me.
Eyes going wide, I grinned a little. " what the fuck is wrong with that chick?" He pointed and soon everyone was taken back in surprise. By Fear mixed in with relief and confusion. The girl in the red jumper stood up.
" Soo-Nico?!" The girl called, I remembered her name to be Eun-Yoo, she knew about me being infected. Tears were in her eyes. " sit down!!" the man screamed at her. Her brother Eun-Hyuk pulled her down.
" so the bitch is a monster all along," The crazy hair boy walked over to me. " I can't wait to kill you!" He spits raising his weapon but I didn't give him time to by grabbing the inside of his mouth gripping at his jaw.
My black eyes stare into his brown ones he made some gurgling sounds and in one swift move, I jerked his mouth right off of his dirty mouth he won't be able to use.
He fell to the floor with a thud as his blood-covered my hand. My eyes hardened as I saw one of the other men. They pointed their guns at me and began to shoot at me.
I felt the bullets go throw but it didn't hurt. I kept going like it didn't bother me which it didn't. The men began to shake back up, as my bloodied hand shot out into the man's chest.
He Screamed, yanking on to my arm trying to pull away. I felt around then grabbing what I wanted clutching it feeling wet as it beat. I ripped it out staring at the guy's heart I ripped out his eyes rolled in the back of his head as he tried to gasp for air.
I pushed him to the ground, he was already dead before hitting the concrete. Dropping the squishy heart, screams were let out. I turned to them, they wall-scooted away terrified at what they just witnessed. I began to walk towards them but I some began to feel tired my knees went weak. I felt my sticky Palms of my hands hit against the cool concrete. I breathed in and out slowly my eyes went back to normal.
Someone got up and run over to me. It was Eun-Yoo, " are you alright!" she crouched down beside pulling me into her embrace. " I– I'm fine." a huge lump formed into my throat I tried to swallow but it was nearly impossible.
Tears formed in my eyes it all came back to what I just did. " she's– she's one of them a Monster!!" Jae-Hwan called out. I knew it, I looked up they were all staring at him. " well you saw what she did she could do that to us if we don't—" he was interrupted.
" So what Jay-Hwan she saved us?!" Eun-Yoo barked back at him defending me. I stared in awe, she didn't have to do that. " I knew about her being infected for a while now but didn't say anything knowing how you'll react."
Her brother didn't look surprised when I stared at him. " you what she could of—" jay-Hwan tried to speak but Eun-Shook her head. " but she didn't!" The conversation was soon stopped by someone jumping down from the ceiling.
" Eun-Yoo right, she risked her life for us the least we can do is thank her I would have kept it a secret too." Hi-kyeong walked towards us. " thank her?!" Jay-Hwan stood up about to fuss again but expectedly, Eun-Hyuk got up to them and faced him.
" it doesn't matter now, her monster or not she with us." He walked over towards me. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, " I'm sorry Soo-Nico, for putting you through all that trouble." He stuck out his hand.
They didn't hate me, I smiled. With my other none bloodied one I took a hold of his and he and his sister helped me up. " I should have said something but I was nervous that you guys would kick me out."
I stared at the group but then noticed Hyun-Su wasn't there. " where's Hyun-Su?" They were quiet, " Jeung-Seob and a couple of others took him to the roof." Eun-Hyuk clarified. Was he okay? Were they going to kill or hurt him?
By the Expression on my face, he could tell what I was thinking. " he was wounded but he'll be okay for now we need to Focus on a plan on what we are going to do." Yi-Kyeong nodded.
" We need to go," she motioned for us to come along Eun-Hyuk helped me walk. But a man came out in front stopping us. " I knew this would happen!" he slapped Ms. Cha and grabbing her from behind pointing his weapon.
" Drop your gun!" Yi-Kyeong threatened to point hers. " we should make a bet on who can kill more people!" He then shot Duk-Silk in the shoulder my eyes widened. Hearing people scream backing up.
" you're going to lose, so drop your fucking gun!" He yelled but Yi-Kyeong held her ground. This pissed him off more than she already was. " I said drop your fucking gun, you bitch!"
He wasn't playing around, she knew it lowering the weapon. Dropping it on the floor, He soon pushed Ms. Cha harshly and ran to Yi-Kyeong slapping her. She fell to the floor, " This is just the beginning, you bitch!" He cursed kicking her.
I couldn't let this happen as he continued to kick and hit her with the end of his gun. I looked around and found a crowbar grabbing it I got out of Eun-Yoo's hold and ran over towards him bashing it against his head. I backed up as Eun-Hyuk and Byeong-II pushed him up against the tank but the guy's gun went up and began shooting the ceiling. We ducked for cover as Bullets it the glass chandelier shattering into tiny pieces flying everywhere.
The guy with the gun soon flew back hitting the column as his blood splattered all over it. He was dead Turing my head it was Yi-Kyeong the one that shot him. her chest huffed up and down like she was tired.
We all waited a couple more minutes before doing anything making sure there was no one else. I sat down on the ground staring at the mess and the Stench of blood and a burnt body.
Everyone was scared and shaken up as the guys dragged the men That were killed by Me and Yi-Kyeong. I hoped Hyun-Su was okay, if he were to come to do here and see me I wondered what he will think? It was hard to say watching the girl he liked died in his arm, then getting taken by the leader not on when he'll come back if he does then finding out the girl that was supposed to be dead is alive and he'll think the only reason is that she's infected.
What was I going to say? I lied to him all this time making him think I was human. I couldn't remember anything about my family still. Did I even have a mother a father or a brother, sister? Something tells me I didn't have much of one.
Even school I don't remember anything at all it's all a blur in my mind. Hanging my head low tears dripped from my eyes. I made a big mistake of coming here. Maybe I would have been better off I thought until there was the sound of an elevator door opening.
Thinking it was Hyun-Su I quickly got up running over towards it but it was him it was another guy. The others came pointing their weapons at him. Faces Contoured in anger.
He held up his hands in Surrender, " stop it! Stop this we don't have time for it!" The guy cried, " what do you mean?" Byeong-II questioned, " if they come down we're all dead!" I raised an eyebrow who?
Was he talking about Hyun-Su? " what are you talking about?" People pressed their weapons more towards him I was standing right beside Eun-Yoo. " All right I'll put my weapon down, okay!" He laid it on the ground.
Then pulled something out of his Pocket it was a red piece of paper. " here, read this!!" He handed it over to Yi-Kyeong she looked at him suspiciously then took it. Hye-In read it out loud to us.
" special infectee Report guide." She began, my heartbeat started to pick up. " We guarantee the safety of anyone Who reports a special infection. You will be transferred to a safe camp."
She finished my heart dropped in the pit of my stomach. They wouldn't report me, right? My fist clenched, " what does that mean?" I rolled my eyes did that person not listen? " they want to report people like me!" I said out loud looking down.
Of course, something like this would happen. I Sensed they were all staring at me, after hearing that I wasn't sure if I and Hyun-Su were safe here anymore. Anyone will do anything if that means they are assured safety.
It was quiet until a dig went off, slowly my head Rose to see the numbers on the elevator we're going down. " there coming, there coming!" Byeong-II said all Panicked everyone pointed their weapons. I didn't have one and if it was Hyun-Su I wouldn't use it.
Everyone was still as the numbers hot in the Single digits. I counted down from five if they were going to shoot him I would protect him.
THREE, TWO, ONE!
I said in my head as the elevator doors opened.

Can you fight?
I have binge watched the entire second season of Umbrella Academy now....I have to say I am in love with Allison. And her power. So I have decided to do a fic for you all, just a one shot.
Jason Todd/Red Hood, Dick Grayson/Nightwing and Bruce Wayne/Batman x reader
Reader is best friends with Dick, dating Jason and an alliance of Bruce. This is in a fight between Gotham villains. Reader has the 'rumor' power from TUA.
It was a typical Gotham night, wet and cold. With a hint of humidity. The batfam hadn't seen your power, as you preferred to use it only when you absolutely had to. And tonight, you would have to.
Penguin and Riddler had Nightwing, Joker and Harley had Red Hood. Two Face, Scarecrow and Mr Freeze had cornered Batman. Which left you with Poison Ivy.
Ivy wasn't much of a fighter, but you weren't much of a push over. Ivy tried to seduce you with her chemicals. As she altered it so it would now work on women too. You were under her spell.
'I hear you can control man to do anything with a simple phrase' Ivy rolled out, she always sounded so sexy. One thing you liked about her.
'I can' you answered, 'but I prefer not too' you finished.
'The boys are in trouble y/n, and I have you here. Under my spell. You can get them back, if you want to' Ivy said.
'How?' You asked intrigued, Ivy laughed a little.
'Use your power'
...
The three men were doing the best they could, but they weren't getting very far. Batman managed to knock out Two Face, but Scarecrow got him with fear toxin. A split second Batman wasn't looking, it was done.
You walked in, Scarecrow looked at you and laughed.
'You're too late, he's mine now' Scarecrow said as Mr Freeze started walking towards you. You looked at Mr Freeze.
'I heard a rumour' you said, Freeze stopped and looked at you.
'What was that?' He asked, you leaned as to whisper to him.
'I heard a rumour, you froze scarcrow upto his shoulders', just like that Mr Freezes eyes turned white and he turned to shoot his freeze gun at Scarecrow, freezing him upto his shoulders as you said.
'Freeze' Scarecrow shouted, stiffened in the ice.
'Now release Batman' you said to Freeze as he untied him. He wouldn't be under your control for long so you had to work quickly. Batman was untied and at your feet crouched and scared from the toxin. You then put one of his arms over your shoulder and walked him outside, laying him down on the backseat of the car.
'Just wait here B, gonna go get the others' you said as you shut the back door and rushed to get Jason and Dick.
...
Dick was closest, he was being held by Penguin and Riddler. Both of them would be easy to control. But only one could be controlled, unless you tried to control both of them. But Penguin is quick for a little guy, he also has a gun. Riddler is also very smart, he would clock on easy. However, neither of them have seen your power...nor do they probably even know about it.
'You guys are wasting your time, I can go all night' Dick said as Riddler zapped him with a taser.
'You shit' Penguin spat out at Dick, 'I have no idea why, but I just hate you the most. Pretty boy' Penguin continued.
'Riddle me this Nightwing, what's black and blue. And also has...' Riddler was interrupted by the warehouse door slamming open.
'Back up' you said to both the villains. They looked at you and laughed.
'A woman, trying to be the hero' Penguin chuckled,
'You're no Catwoman or Black Canary miss' Riddler said.
'True' you replied bluntly, smiling as you walked over to Penguin, 'I heard a rumour that you shot your friend in the foot'.
Penguin's eyes turned white as he stood straight and turned around to face Riddler,
'Oswald, what are you doing?' Riddler shouted out as Penguin shot him in the foot. You untied Dick and the two of you ran outside.
'Bloody hell' Penguin shouted as he fired shots at you and Dick.
'Why did you do that?' Riddler asked Penguin, Penguin just looked at him.
'She told me to'.
...
'Are you OK?' You asked Dick as you got to an alley.
'Yeah, are you?' Dick asked as he hugged you, you nodded.
'Bruce is in the car round the corner, here are the keys. Get him to Alfred, get the cure for Scarecrows toxins. I need to get Jason', Dick puts his hand on your shoulder.
'You can't do this alone' he says with concern,
'I can handle it. I'm not losing Jason again' you say as you run to where Jason is.
...
'Once upon a time, there was a little Robin. This Robin was unlike any other you've seen, he was pretty, careless and easy to take down. This Robin then came back from the dead' Joker chuckled as he hit Jason with a crowbar.
Harley Quinn sat in the corner laughing as she turned around to see you walking into the room. Anger in your eyes, rage on your face.
'Hi deary, miss me?' Harley called out as she picked up her bat.
'Not tonight Harley' you replied through gritted teeth.
'Have you no heart?' She replied as she ran towards you, putting you in a headlock.
'Robin has a little Sparrow' Joker said,
'Don't touch her' Jason shouted out to Joker, Joker just laughed. That maniac laugh that haunts Jason's nightmares.
'I'll leave that to Harley, do tell me girl. Can you fight?' Joker added. You huffed a little as Harley's grip got tighter.
Jason wiggled out of his binds and wrestled Joker to the floor, as you grabbed on Harley's arm and threw her over your shoulder. You jumped up and grabbed the beam above you, wrapping your legs around Harley's neck, choking her.
Joker laughed as Jason punched him repeatedly, however, Joker managed to over power Jason and start to choke him. Standing up behind Jason while Jason was on his knees.
You kicked Harley in the face and let go, dropping down and handing Harley an axe.
'I heard a rumour you killed the Joker' you said with darkness in your voice. Harley's eyes went white as she smiled and walked over to Joker. Hitting him in the back with the axe. His grip on Jason loosened and Jason crawled away. Standing up to watch.
'Harley, stop' Joker cried out as he bled, Harley stopped for a second.
'Sorry Mr J' she said with sadness in her tone, she swung the axe several times and killed the Joker.
'No' she cried after she finished, Jason then hit Harley over the head and knocked her out.
'I can't believe you did it, y/n' Jason looked at you, 'you used your power'.
'I had to on Freeze and Penguin too. Otherwise Bruce and Dick would be dead right now' you responded. Jason hugged you tight, giving you a deep kiss.
'They know about your power now. They'll be looking for you' Jason said.
'Let them' you replied, you took Jason's hand as the two of you walked out onto the street together.
It was true, they all knew about you now as you showed them your power. But one person was watching the whole thing. Watching you. Coming for you.

Chapter 6 – Hope of Surviving – Deadly Life part 1
Hamasaki Hana watch those that had been hit by the memory gun that she shot at them, she had no clue how it works nor use it on herself but she was told simple instruction by her friend, Okamoto Fuji before her death.
She was told to set it back to about four years which should be when they were Hope’s Peak students or… at least she assumes so, yet again she had no clue how this works but she didn’t question…
“Well… seeing as those six are out, I better be going then, likely if I didn’t shoot them – they likely try to prevent me from killing myself…”
She stated as she was about to take her leave, I mean she knew she was going to die regardless and honestly accepted that; if it’s meant to protect Inoue Sunako from Haku, then it’s best to do so and not have the others be upset over her death.
It would-.
“So… seems your leaving, hm?”
She went quiet as she turn to the one that stood up, it was the Ultimate Electrical Engineer or well… Ultimate Thief, Haiiro who was the first up which she was shock to see him up. “Huh, seems your up already…” She commented which he look to her which he shrugged. “Counting I shot myself with that gun quite a few times, it’s side effects are less often to happen if you use it a few times…” He stated as gesture to himself.
Clearly the gun was something only he could understand to Hana, as that she walks over as giving the memory gun to him. “Here, I think it be best if you hold onto until Future Foundation gets here.” She brought up which he gave a nod as taking it then he puts it in his bag then he looks to the surfer with a stern look as he notices she’s leaving the trial grounds.
“So… you’re planning to kill yourself I take it?” He asked which stop the girl in her tracks which cause her to turn her attention towards him. “Huh, how did you-?” “Counting that Fuji-chan did this whole murder plan, you’re likely going to follow suite.” He answers her question before she could even ask which she look to the ground.
She gave a sigh as it seems she couldn’t deny the claim as then she eyed him. “Your… going to stop me?” She asked which he shook his head. “I don’t think so, but… are you scared of dying?” I asked which she gave a slow nod.
“I won’t deny that I’m scared to died, like… my family would be upset but seeing how the world is outside, likely my parents are dead anyway so maybe I’ll see them.” She explained which then she turn away as her hand turn to fist, clearly shaking as she spoke. “But… you better be sure to take down Haku, I really don’t want another killing to happen.” She spoke which he gave a nod.
Seems he was ready to follow this order as he cross his arms with a smirk. “You are aware who you talking to? I’ve escaped death before and would do anything to live, so I’ll be sure to live on for you and Fuji-chan.” He told the surfer which she smiled a bit. “Heh, well… I could see why she felt strongly towards you. Probably your better then-.” “Yourself?” He asked as she eyed him a bit surprise.
“You… You knew?” She asked which he gave a nod. “I… do notice you seem to smile more when she smiles, I’m more surprise you didn’t try to fight over for her affection.” He stated as he had his hand in his pocket which she shook her head. “Nah, I… don’t really like fighting or causing pointless drama anyway and besides – I could tell she liked you quite a bit.” She stated as then she walks away.
However, she turns to look to the thief. “However, I do hope you open up to the group some more.” She commented as he sighed as look to the ground. “You… really think so? Counting I’m a petty thief that likely should go to jail for my crimes so I’m not sure they’ll view me the same after I reveal myself…” He spoke as Hana laughed as she turns to him once more.
“Nah, knowing this group; I’m sure they’ll accept you counting there are likely bigger evils then some thief – just trust in them more.” He spoke which he nodded. “I… guess I’ll right, I’ll try and tell them everything so thank you.” He thanked which she gave a goofy smile as giving a peace sign. “Well – time to die I guess, I better be off dude, see ya…” She spoke as she turn away.
It would be the last time Haiiro would see of Hana, and despite her going to her death she was still smiling… maybe she was feeling guilt or didn’t want to let her last moments be sad ones? He still wasn’t sure.
However he walk over to where Hana was standing at and look at those that were on the ground, he smiled to himself. “Just… trust in them more, huh?” Haiiro had ask himself, as if to recall Hana’s last few words.
He… really should, huh?
--
As I headed my way downstairs to the lodge’s living along with a crowbar, I look at those of us remaining… Esumi Masa, Kimura Tomoe, Mori Miwa, Katou Doi and… Haiiro, seems a few of us excluding Tomoe-chan who didn’t have a weapon at all.
I guess the girl wasn’t much of a fighter but she decided to come along for moral support however I was more curious of Rai-san or well… Haiiro-san to be exact, the fact this guy was the famous Ultimate thief.
Where he started stealing was unknown but many believe he was from a poor upbringing and had to steal to live, he had always found a way to escape capture from police, however what made him different from other thieves is that he mostly stole from bad people; corrupted banks, corporations, even the police once – he was even nicknamed ‘the modern robin hood’, he had various gadgets to take out cameras and even was seen on news with no face but a symbol and a name.
He was that mysterious…
Now we met the very guy that stood before us, our classmate was the Ultimate Thief which Miwa-san had her hands on her hips. “So, if I understand this right, you were our classmate this whole time and did not reveal this information?” She asked, clearly curious of him which he shrugged.
“Well I figure I would keep quiet regarding what I was and I would of reveal I was a thief around graduation but counting the parade that was going on, I figure I wait until things have settle…” He told us which then Tomoe-chan had a concern look on her face. “Wait, so did Hope’s Peak know you had this talent?” She asked which he shook his head.
As then he started to get in a thinking pose and look to the side. “Well, no – my true talent is the Ultimate Electrical Engineer – that part is true, however the stealing and my talent as a thief was something, I kept more private.” He told me which then I gave a nod.
“Well okay, then… what about you and Sunako-chan working together, how long have you known each other?” He asked which he thought it over. “I guess it would be before I went to Hope’s Peak, I was doing one of my daily stealing’s at the time and she came across me, I do recall she was from the Elementary School Division; I’ll be honest, I was expecting her to get police but instead she didn’t then start to ask me questions.” He commented.
We all look to each other then back at Haiiro-san as he continues. “I did explain my situation and why I stole which after that she gave a nod and told me to follow her and… gave me a home, which I was surprise she would; I mean she is helping a bad person but she didn’t care and… she offer me a home which after that I guess… she became family to me, in a way.” He stated with a small smile.
However, a frown soon appears. “However, Haku – he’s… likely got to try and make young lady Sunako into the mastermind when she did not intend to do so!” He spoke as his hand turn into fist as he looks at it which the Masa-san step forward. “I see, then that explains it; then what about Hamoponi? Why did she make that thing?” I asked which he shrugged.
“She… never exactly explained the reason but it was around the time Monokuma’s were reveal by Towa Corp, she asks me to steal the blueprints of Monokuma which I did.” He spoke which Doi-san look nervous. “So… even he doesn’t know, that means we have to find Sunako-chan to figure out the answer then.” He brought which then I look to the door.
With one order, I spoke it out. “Alright then, let’s go… we must find Sunako-chan and figure out why she created Hamoponi and even the plans she had with the resort.” I spoke as then the six of us made our way out of the lodge.
We made our way of the lodge, I look up at the skies and wonder how long have we’ve been asleep for which resulted in me taking out my pad and checking the time… it was night time, I look up at the sky and realize…
We were out of it a whole day, that gun is quite scary that could happen but I couldn’t think of time we must get to Sunako-chan now more then ever…
As we walk our way to the 3rd area, Tomoe-chan had look to Haiiro-san who was leading the way. “So… what about this resort? I recall that Miwa-san came up with the idea of using the resort as a safe haven but the things that were built… I don’t recall those being there when we visited…” She commented which he didn’t pay attention to her but spoke.
“That was all young lady Sunako, she originally had plans to bring more people in but she stop work for some reason.” He explained which then Miwa-san started to think. “Ah yes, she mentions she had intended to bring more people to the resort and ask me, I of course allow it due to the parade – did you have any idea who those people were?” “Kids.” He answered which all of us were surprise.
I had wonder why kids of all things, I mean I get trying to save us from the parade. “So it was kids, you mean the ones from the Elementary School Division – I did recall writing papers and getting information out to public regarding the school. I even wanted to shut that place down along with the Kamukura Project; I… had some collogues that wanted to help but… I cut contact with them due to The Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy.” Masa-san spoke as pulling her hat down which Doi-san had a concern look.
“Ye-Yeah, but wow… that school was pretty bad from the sounds of it; good we got our memories back but does Sunako-chan have her memories back too?” The Mascot asked the question I wanted to know which he look at them as we were about to cross over the cliff of the mountain.
He gave a nod as he looks to us. “I would assume so, see as Fuji-chan left her in that cottage and even told her to lock the door I’m sure she’s-.”
“RUUUUN!”
We turn to the voice shouting as suddenly, it was Sunako-chan who was… riding a horse? Wait, where did she get a horse.
“Su-Sunako-chan?!” Tomoe-chan spoke as suddenly surprise by her appearance which cause the girl to see us then stop in her tracks as she was on the horse. “Gu-Guys, seems you all are here! Great I was actually going to get you! Lo-Look, I know you have a lot of questions and you wish me to answer them but-.” Before she could speak suddenly Masa-san sees something then points her hacking gun and shoots a black and white bear launching after the child which instantly exploded thanks to Masa-san’s quick work.
This of course cause the girl to stumble back as the explosion caught her off guard. “Wh-What the hell?! Where did that come from!” I yelled surprise as then Sunako-chan pointed. “Look, I need to get to the monitor room right now! I’ll tell you everything but right now we’re under attack and need to defend this place.” She explained to us which Haiiro-san seem surprise as he was panic.
“Wait, someone is attacking us? Is it Haku?” He asked as Sunako-chan furrow her eyebrows and nodded. “Yep, that bastard pretty much order the Monokumas to go after me and kill me. I had Hamoponi transform so now I’m heading off to the Monitor room – now let’s go.” She orders us but as she was rushing by but then she stops to look at us.
“Hey, don’t you guys want to protect this place? I mean seriously, we need to because-.” “We know why you want us to but I think it would be better if we split up and cover more ground.” Miwa-san suggested as she look to all of us then spoke. “I think Tomoe-chan and Eito-kun will go with you to the 2nd area where the monitor room, I’ll take care of the first area where the greenhouse is, Doi-kun will cover the final area that’s incomplete and Masa-chan and Haiiro-kun will take care of this area.” She explained which…
I couldn’t deny what Miwa-san was saying, covering more ground like this would help protect this place but even then her and Doi-san would be alone. “Are you 2 sure about it, maybe you both can pair up together.” I suggested but then the mascot shook his head. “No, I think this could work – besides I may not look it but I am a very strong bear.” He spoke as I look to him.
Then everyone else, they all seem to have agree with the plan then I sighed. “Right then, that… might be a wise idea. Okay let’s go and hurry up then.” He spoke which myself, Miwa-san, Doi-san, Tomoe-chan and Sunako-chan left the area as Masa-san and Haiiro-san rush off further into the area – likely heading to the radio tower.
As the four of us were leaving the area Miwa-san and Doi-san turn to us which with a nod they rush off to their respective areas which left me with Tomoe-chan and Sunako-chan.
“Sadly we aren’t much for fighting so I think having you with us Eito-kun is a major help.” Tomoe-chan spoke which I gave her a concern smile. “Look, I’ll be sure you 2 don’t get hurt but we better hurry up…” He spoke as the 2 look to each other and nodded. “Right, let’s get going then – that bastard Haku made this whole thing into a killing game – I’ll do everything in my power to defend this place now come on!” She spoke.
It seems that the kid really did not like him… I guess she must have a good reason but regardless, we better do what we can to protect it!
INVESTIGATION START!
Eito’s POV:
Which then the three of us started running, as I saw Monokumas rushing after us I bash them on head which it exploded as we kept running.
No way in hell am I going to let those two die on me… I sure as hell won’t let it happen, I just… I just got to believe that this will turn out okay, or I hope that talent of mine doesn’t do anything to mess this up.
As we rush into the area Sunako-chan got off her steed as she click a button and Hamoponi return back to normal as she pick him up. “Okay we made it, now keep protecting the door Eito-kun.” She order which I turn to them. “Wait, your… asking me?! You sure about that?” I asked a bit panic as she smiled, clearly more confident in me then I was honestly.
“Well, if knowing how your talent works – I think you’ll be fine plus I don’t want those Monokuma’s rushing in to kill me and Tomoe-chan.” She spoke which then I turn to her which I sighed. “I still think it’s still dangerous to rely on that talent of mine, it could get bad and-.” I paused which as then Sunako-chan walk over which she smiled.
“Look, knowing how your talent is and how those that have your talent; I’m sure you’ll be fine and besides… I will allow you to speak of right now when the times comes, now please protect this area while we take care of the rest.” She spoke which she turns away as she began to type in code and did an eye scan.
Suddenly the door open which Tomoe-chan look at it then at me. “Eito-kun, just believe in yourself.” She spoke as the 2 rush in and the door closes.
She’s… allowing me to speak about my talent and even reveal it then… I know we can’t lose for sure this time!
‘Eito’s True Talent’ has been added to memory.
After that I saw Monokuma appearing, it seems the aim was for the monitor room which I prepare my crowbar. “You bastards are in no way going to get in here!” I yelled as I rush over as slamming my weapon at there door which they exploded.
It seems more and more were coming in, charging in as trying to make it pass me or what was inside but as then one of the Monokuma’s rush forward as knocking the crowbar out of my hand.
Oh shit, I-!
As then another attack me and I slammed onto the ground. ‘Shit, that isn’t good! I got to protect them I have to-!” As I was getting up suddenly the Monokuma that came out of the crowd rush over to me and push me on the ground.
I try to push that thing off but suddenly more and more kept coming and push me on the ground. “N-No no, don’t do that! Get the hell away from the door I-!”
I shouted but… it was useless, I was stuck and likely to die and the door was getting clawed at.
Is… is this really the end? I mean, I try to protect it but I-…
Suddenly a darken flash came by with a blade of sort which suddenly the monokuma’s heads were cut clean off as then a voice shouted.
“Move, now.”
He order which as then I rush off quickly which I fell face first into the snow but I heard the monokumas exploded I… didn’t know who it was but then that person walk over to me as helping me up.
“Seems I made it just in time, good… Sorry we took a while to get here.” The voice apologize which I got a better look at the person.
It was a young man bundle up in winter clothe with dark black hair with strange hair sticking out and striking dark blue eyes which he look familiar I… recognize him.
“Reiji-san?” I asked which he seem surprise by this. “Hm, you… know of me?” He asked a bit confused which I blinked.
I recognize that this was Kabuto Reiji, the Ultimate Fencer and from Class 77-A. He tends to be pretty stiff and serious most times but is a bit odd with social ques…
But right now, I had no time to speak as then Reiji-san look to see another Monokuma appear which the fencer look to have his attention towards the bear. “Look, will talk later after we protect you all.” He told me which I gave a nod.
Which then Reiji-san handed me a police rod that was glowing blue and had numbers. “I suggest use this to hit these things, they’ll be shutdown by code when you do.” He suggested which I grab it, giving a nod as then I saw Monokuma’s appearing around which it seems will be kept pretty busy…
After that we began our attack as defending the monitor room as, no matter the cost…
Miwa’s POV:
I ran over to the 2nd area, pretty much I had to protect this area and not let anything bad happen, which as it seems to be the case – those dastardly Monokumas were roaming around.
I ran as quickly as I could I gave a mighty kick in the head, smashing the eye which I rush back which it exploded. Goodness, Coach – your training really did pay off, huh?
As then more started to appear, I realize that there aim was for the exit which likely they are going to head to the monitor room which I stood in front of the exit.
“If you think that I, Mori Miwa – the owner of the resort will let you do as you please, then I sure won’t allow you to destroy it!”
I declared, I had to be sure to keep this resort safe – I must do that… I have to do that…
As it is my responsibly and duty to protect the resort and those inside, which Sunako-chan counts as this! I will protect it!
‘Shizen Resort Owner’ has been added to memory.
I started to fend off and defend the exit, I would not allow these robotic bears at all to leave or even destroy anything but I soon realize I was nearly running low on energy and getting tired…
There is far too many, I know that I should have had back-up but…
I can’t give up, I must not give up – I got to keep fighting, I-.
As if by a stroke of luck, I saw some glowing shoot pass me and straight into the red eye of the Monokuma which I shouted.
“Hey, you better move out of the way before it blows up!”
As if the order was given, I jump back as then more arrows appear which then the Monokumas stop moving which they exploded. I turn my attention to the person – it was a young woman dressed warmly with long dark green hair, light green eyes and seeming to hold a bow as she prepares for the next set of ammo.
Hold on, I… recognize that girl. “Mayumi-chan, is… is that you?” I asked as trying to regain my composure which she surprise by this as then her face went red as looking away. “O-oh wow, um… never knew a girl would know my name so instantly and we only just met…” She mumbled to herself.
Yep – even her odd nature towards girls is the same too; Tamon Mayumi, the Ultimate Archer of Class 76-A had arrived. She always was friendly and pretty social but she tends to act really strangely around girls.
As then I recall the Monokumas coming for the exit. “Hey, if you’re here to save me then I think it’s time for action!” I spoke which snapped Mayumi-chan out of it then she prepare her bow. “Ri-Right, we got you guys to save!” She spoke.
She then tosses me a bag as I grab it which reveal to be something to eat and drink. “Here, eat this to get back your strength, I’ll take care of these while you rest.” She spoke as then she began to shoot at her targets.
I began to drink as watching the girl launches the arrows as Monokuma’s exploded however as I was finishing up I notice a Monokuma approach Mayumi-chan.
“Look out!” I yelled as I rush over and slam my foot right into his head which I got in a defensive pose which she seems surprise. “Wh-Whoa, that was fast! You save me, thank you!” She thanked me with a huge smile as I smile back.
Seems that this is the same Mayumi-chan despite this chaos happening…
Doi’s POV:
Despite how heavy my costume is at the moment but right now I had a bigger priority at the moment and that was the protect the resort!
I knew for certain that this Haku guy is trying to do bad stuff so I better try to stop him if I can, I mean this guy was responsible for having a lot of people killed, ever since the first one which…
Tomo-kun…
He pretty much got kicked out because they didn’t have the medicine he needed, but now seeing the box of medicine that was in that rocket then Tomo-kun wouldn’t have killed Chikao-kun so meaning this guy was here at the start!
This guy is super unforgivable and a big meanie jerk pants!
‘Medicine on Ship’ has been added to memory.
Which when I came into the unfinished area, I see Monokumas come out, seems there aim is for the exit which then I prepare myself as standing in the way so none would get through.
They all came rushing towards, ready for the attack which then I rush towards them as slamming myself into them like a football player does so, which I slam the first one on the ground and stomp it then attack the next one and threw them away which the mean bear explodes.
I knew that I would be sure to fight them, besides I can handle these things no problem but even then I knew my limit so I hope I-.
As such one slip by as heading for the exit. “O-Oh no, don’t go I need to!” But I got distracted as they all overpower me which then others head for the exit I try to reach out.
‘N-No… I couldn’t defend it, I… I’m so sorry I-.’ As thinking this suddenly someone rushes straight as giving the first Monokuma a punch with something glowing which it exploded.
“No way in hell we ain’t gonna let you kill anyone!” A voice spoke, I recognize that voice… is it my hero? Must be!
I suddenly jump up as doing a twirl which remove the Monokumas on top of me; it was a guy with darken skin, light hair a beard and yellow eyes… He looks pretty familiar; he was quite handsome too.
When I got a closer look, I realize who that was. “Yoshi-kun? Wowie, what happen to you! You suddenly don’t have those dyes!” I spoke as the DJ look surprise at seeing me.
“Hu-Huh? You… know who I am? Well hey, will worry about that later but I came over here as quickly as I could. You doing okay?” He asked, which I gave a nod.
I surely do recognize Oku Yoshi, he was from Class 76-A, he was pretty loud and quite aggressive – he changes his appearance and even has background in the military but prefer the party life, he is pretty social and friendly despite all that.
As I was admiring my hero he rushes over and punch a Monokuma that was behind me which exploded which snap me out of my daze.
“Dude, will worry about this later – right now we got these bastards to fight!” He spoke.
Which with a nod I prepare myself as we rush in and started smashing up Monokumas that try to get to the exit.
I couldn’t be happier that these guys finally show up, what heroes!
Tomoe’s POV:
The door was close behind us, I did hear noises outside – likely from the Monokumas…
I really hope that Eito-kun is going to be okay, I know the guy can handle himself just fine and everything but still with those robotic bears roaming around and with him alone, can he handle it?
“Hey, if you’re going to keep staring at the door like a love-struck idiot – you can help me set things up?”
A voice spoke to me which I turn to the source, Sunako-chan… the girl which we just learn is not only Hamoponi’s creator just hours ago but is the one that set up this whole resort which did leave me a lot of questions.
I… had a lot of questions for the young girl that stood before me which I stood forward. “Well, I would but first… I want to ask you some questions.” I told her which she rolls her eyes.
Clearly not in a good mood and I did not like that attitude of hers but… I guess mom had dealt with that, huh?
As then she turn away. “Like I say, I’ll… answer your questions later, but right now we need to work on trying to put up domes on buildings and destroy those Monokumas…” She spoke as she walk into a room as I follow her.
I look around the room as it had monitors of the entire locations, technology and a lot of buttons which then the girl began typing as then she look to me. “Okay so I need you to type in those codes in and try to set the Hamoponi’s defense system.” She stated as giving me a paper which I took them.
I had look at the paper, clearly, I knew the codes and follow instruction but I stare at her which the girl stare back. “Well? Are you going to tie in code or what – look we don’t have time, just get to work and-!” “What… is Hamoponi made for?” I asked which cause Sunako-chan to look confused.
“Huh? Look, didn’t I tell you that I was going to answer later. We don’t have time to waste now.” She spoke, clearly getting annoyed which I nodded. “I know but I need to be sure he won’t kill anyone of those outside…” She spoke which I heard a groan as she turns to me.
The girl had her arms crossed, clearly growing more and more impatient which she sighed. “You… really want to know, huh?” She asked which I nodded. “Well yes, along with why you set this all up? Did you want us to kill each other and why didn’t you reveal yourself sooner?” I asked.
The girl eyed me which then she went over to a desk which she pulled out a picture which show, a bunch of children around her age, 2 other girls and 3 boys having fun, which she spoke which began her story...
“You know I’m from the Elementary School Division? Well, I’m in the troublemaking class – a class for problem children, originally; I wasn’t suppose to be in that class… It was after what happen to mommy, she… was in a car accident, it was when I was waiting at school for her then one of the maids found me and inform me that mommy had suffer an accident and was stuck in a coma or vegetable-like state.” She began as I listen to the story. “My mommy isn’t close to her family that much, daddy died before I was born so… all businesses were up to me, which over time the doctors told me that we were running out of money, some maids and butlers were ask to leave which I either had mommy be stuck as a vegetable and become homeless… or cut the cord.” She continues as she looks down.
I couldn’t help but feel guilty for asking. “Which… you cut the cord, right?” I asked which she nodded. “I… had to, mommy was suffering and honestly I think she would prefer to die like that so I allow it, after that most of the staff at my home left and I only had a few people around – so I wasn’t totally alone, and we had Towa Corp helping us in our trouble times which… I met her, Towa Monaca – she honestly knew our families had history and figure we be friends or… were friends.” She spoke which the last part seems pretty important…
I then look the ground then try to ask. “Then, what happen after that…?” I asked as then she began to tear up. “They… kick me out of there group; they saw me as a coward, told me I ran away when they needed me and… say I was a demon in a form of a child.” She spoke which she put the photo down as she looks away then back at the monitor which then she turns to me. “The thing was I had plan to make this place a Children’s Paradise after the tragedy had started, I ask Miwa-chan if I could which she allow – I had begun work and plan to have children here and if they grew too old, they could simply leave… that was the plan, however they didn’t see it that way and thus I had to shut down the plan.” She spoke as hands turn into fist; she was angry then I look to the ground. “Then, Hamoponi – is he-?” “A defense mechanism – he was made to protect those in this resort.” She answered as quickly as I asked.
“Then, why didn’t you reveal yourself sooner?” “I was going to, actually the night before then I had walk out without no one knowing and I try to contact my former friends again but… that bastard Haku, he didn’t want that – he wanted everyone to kill each other so… he shot me with the memory gun which I was going to remove all memory of Esumi Masa but… Haku had other plans so he shot me and return me to my room even destroying the memory gun, where I forgot all my years of Hope’s Peak.” She spoke which I stepped back.
I… It was a lot to take in, the fact that Hamoponi’s creation, why the resort was made and… even this so called ‘Killing Game’ was made all due to Haku Isamu – he… set this all up from the beginning which then with a nod I turn away as I started typing which Sunako-chan smile as she began typing too.
I wasn’t sure if I wanted to work with Sunako-chan but now… I was certain I was doing the right thing.
‘Hamoponi’s true purpose’ has been added to memory.
After some bit more typing the domes were set and Hamoponi’s were set all over which I look to the young girl which as she spoke in the mic.
“Everyone, go back to the lodge and stay there!” She orders as she push the button.
She turns away as she looks to me which I can tell there was guilt. “I’m… really sorry you lose your mommy, maybe if I didn’t like Haku overpower me then she would still be around.” She apologize, I could sense guilt and nodded. “Look – it’s okay, I’m not mad at you and honestly I could see why you would do that counting the tragedy was going on so… I think you were trying to do the right thing.” I spoke.
I… can’t blame Sunako-chan, I can never blame Sunako-chan… I just know for sure, Haku Isamu is the one to blame for all of this.
Haiiro’s POV:
I turn to hear the announcement, as did Masa-san which the 2 of us look to each other…
It seems the plan was set as I notice the Radio Tower started to form a dome along with the cabin, which while we were taking care of things here as Monokuma’s were destroy with our combine forces.
As then Masa-san look to me. “We better get out of here.” She gave the order which I nodded which as the 2 of us were rushing I notice… a figure who look to be making a run for it which as then I pulled my gun out as I pointed.
“Hey, stop right there!” I shot a grappling hook which wrap around the person. “HE-HEY!” The person shouted as he got pulled back which as I realize that the person was a guy with gray to nearly dark hair, blue eyes and seeming to be dressed in bundle up clothes was trying to get away which Masa-san recognize the person.
“I knew it, there he is!” Masa-san rush over and jump on top of him. “Hey, get the hell away from me you bitch!” he orders the women which then she punched him straight in the face.
So this must be the one that try to start a killing game… good thing we caught him.
“Not so fast Haku, I won’t let you get away with this and I sure as hell am not going to let you capture me again. First off you set up not one but TWO killing games and-!”
When Masa-san was trying to get answers from the mess up man, rumbling was heard which I turn to mechanical horses started appearing. “Look – we have no time for questions, will do that after we leave!” He spoke which Masa-san got up to see the Horses which she nodded. “Your right, we… better get back to the others and fast!” She spoke as she pick up the knock out Haku as the 2 of us made a mad dash for the exit.
We tumble out as quickly as we which then I notice young lady Sunako and Tomoe-san rushing out of the second area as well as Eito-san and a new person, same with Miwa-san and Doi-san there look to be 3 new people that appear.
“Da-Damn, I was not expecting that…” The guy with Doi-san spoke however the women with Miwa-san spoke up. “Look, we just better head inside and-!” She pauses as she turn her attention to Masa-san who got up as holding Haku.
“Ma-Masa-chan is that-.” “Look, we can talk later, let’s all get in the lodge right now!” She barked as she rush towards the lodge which it seems everyone rush on inside as everyone did I turn to the defenses activating which I close the door and lock it as everyone got inside…
At least we are all safe…
Eito’s POV:
I was the first to rush straight in, as did the others… I counted, it seems it was all of us and…
I stare at the person that Masa-san was carrying, he got punch in the face and look to be tied up, this… was Haku Isamu, the Ultimate Debater.
From my memory of Haku-san… he was often pretty calm and civil, pretty much worked with the student council if I remember right but here… he looks messed up and really off, what the hell happen to him?
After that Masa-san place the knock out Haku on the sofa which then she turns to everyone. “Seems, everyone is here and…” She paused as she turns to the three that were shock to see the journalist as well.
As if overwhelm by the meeting, Mayumi-san rush over and hugged Masa-san. “Ma-Masa-chan, yo-your alive! Your okay, we thought you were dead – we really thought that but you’re here!” She spoke, as crying which Yoshi-san walk over as placing a hand on her shoulder.
“Yo dude, it’s… really good to see you again.” He spoke which she smiled at the 2. “Mayumi-chan and Yoshi-kun, it’s… good to see you both, I’m going to guess that Momoko-chan, Hansuke-kun, Yokoyoko-chan and Kojikoji-kun are okay?” She asked which the green hair archer pulled away from the hug as placing her hand on her shoulder.
She gave a nod as she smiles, still having tears in her eyes. “Yep, they sure are! Actually, we all work at Future Foundation but… I think a certain someone really wants to speak with you.” She spoke as she step away which her attention turn towards the last member.
Reiji-san and Masa-san stood to look at each other, it seems… it was a reunion of sorts that was awkward which as then Masa-san step forward and rush over giving the man a hug. “Rei-Reiji, I’m… I’m so glad to see you again!” She spoke as she started to cry which he was startle by this but then sigh as he hugged her as rubbing her back.
“I… missed you as well, I’m just… glad to see your doing fine, and if anything – you seem well but those injuries… what happen?” He asked as he move her away which her attention was towards Haku who slowly got up which he stares at the reunion. “Hmph, seems you three are here – great…” He spoke, clearly not too please with them which it seems the same was return.
As then Mayumi-san stood besides Masa-san as defending the journalist. “Haku… your torture her, didn’t you?” She asked which he stare at them. “And what if I did, the only reason I did was to find out where you and Kabuto went to but hey, glad to see we had this old reunion, huh?” He asked as untied himself.
This however cause Yoshi-san and Reiji-san to stand in front of Masa-san which he step back. “Hm, I see you all are holding some nasty grudges, huh?” He asked as Yoshi-san pointed at him. “No shit we are – you pretty much force us to kill each other and we had to watch people die because of you!” “Plus you were intending to leave us behind so the Remnants of Despair could kill us, I wouldn’t be surprise if you set up this suppose killing game too.” Reiji-san spoke as clearly anger was aim towards the debater.
Which of course Haku-san then place his hands in his pocket. “Really? You assume I did, I mean I didn’t have much to do with this… in fact, we can put the blame on these 2.” He spoke as he turn his attention to Sunako-chan and Haiiro-san. “Hu-Huh?! Hold on a second, your blaming me for this!” The young girl shouted as she was about to go up to him but the thief pulled her back which he glares daggers at him.
However it seems Yoshi-san look at the girl then at Haku. “And why the hell should we believe you?” He asked which he look to him. “Then let me ask; why was Monokuma made? To start a killing game and kill people – if you saw Hamoponi I bet she made him with the same purpose – actually I could even argue that she wanted a killing game!” He declared as pointing to Sunako-chan.
Which this cause the young girl to be nervous but she stood her ground. “Hey don’t assume I made Hamoponi due to that! Look, I had a very good reason to and if that’s the case then… will hold a class trial!” She declared.
Which everyone looks to each other. “Hold on, Class Trials? You have them here as well?” Mayumi-san had asked as she turn to Masa-san which she cross her arms. “Yes, we do but it’s run differently here but if he is planning to argue this point then… I guess we must.” She spoke as it seems the three future foundation members look to each other then at Haku who smirked.
Miwa-san was in a thinking pose. “I… really can’t say I want to do this but we must, if it’s to get this bastard out of here then so be it.” She spoke as Doi-san glare at Haku. “If it’s to prove Sunako-chan’s innocent then will do just that, so yep – I’m in too.” He declared as Tomoe-chan walk forward. “I’m on Sunako-chan’s side as well, you can count me in.” Which then I step forward.
“If that’s what she wants then will do, so c’mon – let’s get a move on, will prove she’s innocent in this class trial.” I spoke, as then silence filled the air which with a nod Reiji-san nodded.
“Very well, will allow this – will see if you all are being honest or if that child here is the mastermind of this killing game.” He spoke which Yoshi-san shrugged. “Yeah, I don’t want to suspect a kid but counting those horses appear – we can’t be too careful.” He agree.
As such Mayumi-san look to the young girl. “Then lead the way to the class trial.” She spoke which with a nod she rushes over as she pulled the lever and reveal the path. “Just go in that way and no pushing.” She order as then everyone walk in one at a time which the last one was myself and Masa-san who look at me.
“Well, seems they all arrive… I’m surprise that is the case but regardless, I hope we can prove Sunako-chan’s innocent but still… when are you going to reveal that talent of yours?” She asked which I close my eyes and nodded. “In this trial, I guess you must of figure it out what it is, right?” I asked which she gave a shrug.
Clearly, she knew for quite some time. “I did but I figure I wait for you to reveal it but since you seem confident, I guess I’ll leave that to you then… good luck or well, I guess won’t need to worry about that knowing who you are.” She spoke as she walks in.
I guess… it’s time to face this trial, one more trial and then that’ll be all. Which with that I walk in and look at those of us remaining which I saw that instead of Hamoponi, it was Sunako-chan in her seat.
“Right, seeing as you all are here then we can start…” She spoke which with a nod from everyone we got to our podiums.
Clearly… we were all ready to reveal the truth and see if we can last for our survivals and… we have the hope to survive with everyone!
Trial Start!

"I'm Taking Ben With Me!"
Tuesday 17th November 2020
Hello again everyone! Hope you're all doing okay! Now this the episode that the majority of us have been anxiously waiting for! Is the robbery going to be a success? Or is something going to go horribly wrong and someone gets caught? I'm really looking forward to writing about this episode, something tells me it's going to be gripping and explosive!
The episode begins with Phil, Shirley, Ben, Kat and Kush all arriving at the Insurance building to make a start on their robbery. Phil instructs the group that he wants things to be over as quickly as possible, it makes sense that they shouldn't be there for as long as they specifically have to! He makes it perfectly clear they need to be in and out, end of! Kat informs them that the security guard won't be there until 8am, which really should leave them plenty of time! But then again is it 8am or 8pm? Who knows? I'm sure that will come to light as the episode goes on. They quickly go off in separate directions - Ben and Phil together, Shirley and Kat together and then Kush.
Ooooh, meanwhile back on the Square, Ian enters the Vic after calling the police about the robbery. The look on his face looks like guilt to me - maybe even dismay, jealousy, shock - maybe all of them rolled into one? Max once again calls out to him as he's sat in a booth, as to whether he's got the money to pay him back - Ian ignores him and turns around to see Sharon behind the bar approaching him, asking him where he had been, he ignores her also and makes his way upstairs of the Vic. Max and Linda giggle as they think he's giving everyone the silent treatment because of their actions earlier in the day, sneaking behind the bar and giving out free booze! As they giggle about Ian, Max is looking through Linda's portfolio of her idea of making superhero costumes for autistic children. Sharon watches them as they seem to get cosy. Max is complimenting Linda's work and pushing her to go for her new business plan, even though Linda admits she can't afford it, even if she did want to go ahead with it. Max then asks whether Mick knows, but Linda bows her head and admits that she hasn't told him yet, considering he's been going through a lot lately, she feels perhaps this isn't the right time to be informing him about her new idea. Max looks at her almost with sympathy, but it does look as if he's contemplating something - will he somehow give her the money to start her business? Will he end up helping her set it up? What do you guys think?!
Across the Square, Tina has packed her suitcase after overhearing Iqra and Ash talking about her moving out. She tries to reassure them that their decision is fine and that she completely understands, Iqra appears to be really sympathetic and Ash apologises for her finding out the way she did. When they ask where she's going to stay, Tina jokingly says "The park bench seems free!" - they look at her with shocked expressions but she reassures them that she'll be okay. But in all seriousness, where is she going to go? It's not like she can go back to the Vic, will Gray maybe take her in as he has with Shirley? Could she go and stay with Mick and Linda for a while until she finds her own place? I'd hate to see her be homeless!
At the police station, DI Thompson is playing the recording of Phil and Kat discussing their robbery, whilst Callum is also in the room hearing the discussion. Thompson pushes for Callum to inform him about what he knows, but Callum insists that that is the first time he's heard anything about it, he even insists that Ben wouldn't tell him anything like that! Thompson begins to get frustrated until a fellow officer rushes in telling them that they've had an anonymous tip-off about a robbery and the culprits disguised as cleaners. Thompson knows that that is where Phil and Ben are, he instructs Callum that no matter how he does it, he wants someone arrested! Callum begins to panic and we see him send a message to his boyfriend, warning him to get out of the building! But back at the Insurance company, Ben, Phil and Kush have found the parking lot with the expensive cars, Ben and Phil work separately on different cars whilst Kush stands and watches - he questions how he can help in any way, but they just inform him not to touch anything. Kush watches with a (quite a cute) smile - must be the adrenaline!
Returning to the Vic, Ian is starring into space, almost in a world of his own. Are the events of his actions running through his mind? Does he actually realise he's put his brother and his Dad in danger? Does he feel no shame or dismay?! As he sits alone, Lexi is stood in the doorway and calls him a "Snake!" - which takes Ian completely by surprise. I love little Lexi, she's such a superstar! She informs her Uncle that that is what her Dad calls him. As she continues to insult her Uncle further, Kathy appears and informs she'll be taking Lexi home shortly. As Lexi disappears, Kathy informs her son that she's come deliver his mail, Ian appears thankful to his Mother, she informs him that not everyone is against him, even though it must feel like it right now. She then shows him that one specific later that came was the first payment of the Cafe remortgage is due, suddenly Ian's face drops as his Mum asks him to take care of it, he then sheepishly asks her whether she can pay for it for the month and he'll start to pay from the following month. Kathy instantly looks really disappointed in her son, she questions whether that was his plan from the very beginning, put her into debt and then her be the one to pay it all back. Ian insists that that isn't the case and tries to explain that he needs a few weeks to sort things out - I think that Ian has got himself into something he can't control, he can't pay Max back, he can't pay his Mum back, he can't even pay for the remortgage payments. I think he's on a big downward spiral. Kathy refuses to pay for it and tells her son that it's on his shoulders, but just as she turns to walk away, Ian starts acting like a child and saying that she would do it for Ben - so he is! He's jealous of his brother! Is that it?! - He claims that Ben is the Golden Boy and can do no wrong, but when he drops the insult that she's an unpaid baby-sitter, Kathy hits back! She informs her son that she actually doesn't want paying to look after her granddaughter, because that's what families do!!! That's what Grandparents do! You'd think by now that Ian would understand the concept of "Family" instead of always focusing on money. Kathy states that she would've hoped that Ian would've had a conscience after everything he's done, but it looks like he well and truly hasn't got one!
Back at the parking lot in the Insurance building, Phil and Ben are attempting to jump-start the cars. Ben appears to get his car going pretty quickly as Phil is struggling with the wires of his car. Ben looks over and queries whether his Dad is having problems, but Phil is adamant he's almost got it working. Kush then asks whether he could help, but Phil insists that his only role is to get the gate open when they're ready to leave, but Kush checks they only have 40-odd minutes remaining. Kush makes the valid point that getting the gate open will only take him 5 minutes, Phil then passes Kush the crowbar, instructing him to get the last car working. As he does so, Kush once again gives Phil an excited smile, I do feel it must've been the adrenaline rush of the possibility of doing a successful robbery and the chance of getting a good amount of money at the end of it. Phil laughs and comments that the job they're doing now is much better than selling boob-tubes!
Returning to the Square and at the Prince Albert, Tina walks in with her suitcase to find Kathy drinking on her own. As she joins her, Kathy notices that she has her luggage with her, she informs the poor girl that she can't sleep in the bar again. Tina then comes to the realisation she'll have to bunk up with Shirley again. It's then that Kathy responds to her by telling her that she has family who care about her, Tina can see that Kathy is upset about something and asks what's wrong. Now whether it's the drink that causes her to spill the beans or whether she just needs someone to talk to, Tina pours her another glass of wine and promises not to say a word to anyone, Kathy confides in her colleague about Ian committing fraud by forging her signature and re-mortgaging the Café, much to Tina's shock.
Back at the Vic, as Ian quickly sneaks out into the back in the background, Sharon is at the front and appears to be on the phone to a solicitor, she's informing them that she's knows what is owed to her and what Phil's solicitor is offering can think again about their offer. Ahhh, it's all coming to light now! Max has approached Bobby and is trying to convince him to change the age on his leaflet, and the only reason that Max has done that is so Linda can apply for her business idea. Bobby seems doubtful at first as his thought process is that his sister would want the opportunity to go to someone who was her age, but Max tries to push him to change the age limit, as that way there would be more applications from older ladies. Bobby asks Sharon for her advice, seeing as she and Max are both trustees for Bobby's charity, and she voices her opinion - on what good it'll do for Max? But he insists he's just doing right with a business attitude. Suddenly Linda appears and asks them what she's missed and when she realises that Bobby has agreed to change the age limit on his applicants, Max smiles at her and Linda instantly knows that he's done that for her. She thanks him for helping her and she starts to wonder how she'll make a start on her new business plan, however she needs to send in the application first - what if she's not successful?! She's getting in a bit over her head isn't she? Well Max also?! Or is it written in the stars - she'll apply and she'll get the money to start her new business. Max encourages Linda to call her husband and tell him the good news, however she seems reluctant to do so. As Max approaches the bar to get them another drink, Sharon confronts him head on - she knows what he's up to and warns him to stay away from her, even though Max plays dumb, Sharon can see right through him and warns him that she is her best mate and doesn't want her ruining her marriage to Mick, she doesn't want their marriage ending in divorce - she states that Mick and Linda are meant for each other. Max tries to reassure the blonde vixen that he and Linda are just friends, so she has nothing to worry about. But Sharon gives him one last warning, she'll be watching him from a distance!
Back at the parking lot, Kush successfully manages to break into the car, he seems so proud of himself and so excited, once he knows that he has managed to get into the car, Phil sets things in motion, for them to get into their cars ready to driver off and he instructs Kush to get the gate open. However, when Kush goes over the gate and types in the code, nothing happens. He tries for a second time and once again, nothing happens - has Kat given them the wrong code?! Or is he simply putting in the wrong code?! I don't know whether you guys noticed but the final digit of the code looks like either the number 6 or the letter B (In lower case) - Kush only types in the number 6, something is telling me that he's simply typing it in wrong and it actually is the lower-case B. But I could be wrong, maybe Kat has got the code wrong. Kush looks over to Phil and Ben in a slight realisation of panic that they might not be able to get out. Meanwhile, Kat and Shirley are trying their best to clean the offices, well Kat is however, whereas Shirley is being typical Shirley and is casually sat whilst Kat does all the work. As Kat asks her to make more of an effort, Shirley declines and Kat is quick to announce that she's done good when it's come to the robbery plan. Suddenly, a member of staff comes into the office and finds her and Shirley there.
Ian has found his way into the restaurant and appears to be in such dismay he throws a stash of paperwork all over the floor. As he does so, Suki walks in and see the state he's left the restaurant in, as she approaches him, Ian makes it clear to her that he doesn't want her in the restaurant. However, Suki is quick to make a proposition for him, she informs him about her plans for the Slater household and with him being a member of the council, she thinks he can help get her application get the attention she's wanting. In return she will give him £10,000! Ian is left stunned by her offer and tells her that he's actually not to be bought, but in his desperate need for money, will he take her up on her offer? It may just be the only way to get the money he needs to pay people back with. But of course, that would mean even more trouble for Slater's, once they find out that Ian helped Suki with her plan, he'll only have a few more people out to get him! Something tells me this whole situation isn't going to end well for Ian! What do you guys think?!
Back at the Insurance building, Shirley and Kat are in a blind panic as they're trying to get rid of the gentleman that's walked in on them. Shirley pushes Kat to try and get rid of him. They very subtly and quickly leave the man in the room as he appears to get distracted by sirens approaching the building from outside. Downstairs in the parking lot, Phil is frantic for Kush to get the gate open, Ben quickly notifies Kush that the police are approaching and Kush finally realises that he's been putting the code in wrong, finally he manages to put the code in correctly and franticly, Kat and Shirley dash towards the cars as Phil is shouting for them to get going. Kat pleads to Kush to come with them and leave the one car on it's own, but he's adamant he can do it! As Ben and Shirley drive ahead, the police are gathering outside the building, Kush is frantically trying to get his car to start as Kat begs him to just leave it and go with them. Phil shouts at Kat that they need to move quickly before they get nicked, Kat takes one last look at Kush and simply just says "I'm sorry!" before getting in the car with Phil and leaving him behind.
Kush is absolutely stunned that she's just left him to face the police alone. Callum arrives outside and manages to see Ben leave the scene in his car, only when Phil follows in his car, DI Thompson sees him very clearly and instructs his fellow police officers to go after him. He then instructs Callum to go into the parking lot to see if there is anyone else about. Unfortunately Kush is still struggling to get his car to work, Callum comes face-to-face with Kush and tells him to simply exit the car peacefully as police forces are surrounded everywhere, there is no easy way for him to get out of this now. Kush realises he's backed into a corner, he does everything Callum instructs him to do, only he decides to quickly make a run for it! Callum quickly dashes after him and follows him into a room on the third floor of the building. Kush attempts to hide, Callum comes into the room and spots Kush's reflection, however what he does next is a very interesting thing, he informs his boss that Kush actually got away, much to Kush's relief. When Callum shuts the door, making Kush think he's left the room, Kush attempts to make his escape but is surprised to see Callum still standing there. For a moment, I truly did think Callum was going to let Kush go, but instead he insists on arresting him. Kush begs to let him, but when Callum states he can't simply do that, Kush makes one last threat - if Kush is going to be sent down for this burglary, then he's going to make sure that Ben does to!
Ooooooo what is Callum going to do?! Is he going to let Kush off the hook so he can protect Ben? Will the police catch up with Ben and Phil?! What does this mean for Kat and Kush's relationship?! This has been a brilliant episode to watch, really gripping! I don't think I've seen one as gripping as this for a while! I'm really looking forward to finding out what happens next! What are your thoughts on this episode? What do you think will happen next?! I'd love to hear your thoughts, please feel free to comment or message me, I'll always find the time to reply! Thank you so much for reading! I'll be back again very soon to see what the aftermath of this robbery will be! Love you all xXx

Chapter 4: Act 1, scene 1, part 3
Warnings for this chapter: mostly violence that happened in the series, some hint of trauma
Hope everyone’s enjoying this so far, updates might slow down due to wanting to plan better but interaction and stuff will really drive the motivation <3
A clang startled a small child in his cell, puffing up; he backs into the corner. Light sneaked into the room by the guard’s flashlight as they did their nightly rounds. Little glowing eyes peaked out of the darkness, at the fallen object. The little child crawled over to the object and curiously sniffed it. His tiny hands snatched the can and scurried back to the hide in the corner before the guard noticed.
The guard soon left the cell chambers, now to figure out what this thing is. The child bit at the cold metal, breaking through it with their little fangs as liquids started to leak out and was caught by his tongue. It was so fizzy, nothing like he’s ever felt before, and it tasted amazing. He held hole in the can to his lips and drank the fizzy containments inside, their body lit up and emitted little spots of light. The child felt happy..
The cafeteria room was trashed. Blood splattered all over the floors and the walls with the microwave wrecked, something was able to survive however, the vending machine. Tommy saw and smiled wide.
“Grab a soda! It’ll h-help you s-see faster.” Tommy said, only for Gordon to laugh.
“I don’t even know what that means, but sure thing.” He went over to the machine to try and press a button, but it refused to serve him a drink.
“Hmmm…” Gordon looked at his crowbar and got an idea, he raised the crowbar and took a big swing, smashing the vending machine and the content it was hiding away spilled out. Tommy’s eyes widened a bit at the sight, Gordon was… admittedly rather strong, maybe that’s why he was a larger human? To carry in the strength? He quickly tore his gaze away and looked at Benrey instead, who was practically having heart eyes at Gordon, jeeze.
“Grab the soda guys! Raid it!”
That caught Tommy’s attention.
“Yay free soda!” Bubby dashed across to the pile. Tommy and Benrey grabbed a few and immediately opened them, chugging the contents in quick gulps. Coomer was happy to just be on the floor slurping the soda up. The other guard, was too scared to even attempt approaching close enough to take a soda.
“No no don’t drink it now!! We got to save it up! Guys guys!!”
It was no use, the four looked at him with soda filling their bellies, Tommy gave one final slurp of the last can while Gordon was wheezing at the sight before him.
“We needed that!” Gordon was on the floor laughing and gasping.
“Guys come on, we needed to save that!”
Too late, all the soda wasl gone.
Gordon caught his breath and stood up, looking defeated.
Benrey noticed that the machine wasn’t opened like they thought he did, it was outright broken!! That can’t be right, Benrey would get in huge trouble for that, they hope Gordon doesn’t.
“Hey uh, why’d. Why’d you break those machines?” Benrey asked, Gordon spun around and was visibly annoyed. Benrey tensed up seeing that look, shit.
“You’re really going to lecture me on company property damage!?” Gordon snapped, Benrey gulped and their head went numb, was he going to shove them again? They didn’t like that. Benrey has to distract him.
“Look at the mess behind you! What happened in the microwave, blow up your… lasagne?”
“God, someone was making a lasagne when it blew up I guess.” Gordon sighed, Benrey was relieved they had avoided possible harm.
A headcrab decided to aid in the distraction as it pounced towards Gordon and Benrey, Gordon let out a surprised yell and bashed it to the ground with his crowbar. Benrey stepped back to Tommy as Gordon was talking to Dr Coomer on the way out, Bubby and the other guard following suit.
“Don’t, don’t wanna be hit…” Benrey muttered, Tommy’s heart broke at the sound of Benrey’s voice being so low. He wrapped the alien into his arms and tilted their head up.
“I won’t l-let that h-h-happen.” Tommy said, Benrey’s breath shook as they were safe in Tommy’s hold, they don’t want to feel this fear anymore.
“H-Hey, when t-this is all over w-w-we’ll, we’ll find a house, a-a-and we’ll get to… l-live like normal.” Tommy reassured, Benrey looked up at him with a hopeful gleam.
“With uh, with the uh… With the backyard and, and our own TV?”
“A-and the bed s-so we don’t have t-t-to be on the floor anymore.”
Benrey smiled up at Tommy and looked back to themselves, grabbing Tommy’s hand Benrey rushed out to follow the others.
Tommy and Benrey managed to catch up to the others in the locker room, a dead body was on the ground and neither of them were the cause of it, it could’ve been the explosion.
“Hey who killed him, who killed this?”
Gordon looked over to Benrey with a confused stare.
“You weren’t very concerned with the last one you saw.” Was all he replied with, thinking about how Bubby and Coomer were lecturing him for the guy stuck with a headcrab.
“Wha? You killed someone?”
“I-what? Yes! Yes, I did!” Gordon put his hand on Benrey’s shoulder with desperation in his eyes for the other to listen.
Oh? Gordon killed one of the workers? So he’s on their side?
“Niiiiice.” Benrey grinned, Gordon couldn’t help but let out a little wheeze.
The room apparently was either safe from the explosion, or its where everyone had decided to retreat to, scientists and guards were everywhere, way more then Tommy was comfortable with. Benrey felt rather good disguised as one of them but kept themselves to the small team they had acquired. Tommy’s eyes darted from worker to worker, his body was boiling up with anger the longer had had to look at them. He decided to distance himself and followed Gordon as Bubby announced he’d found Gordon’s passport.
“Is it in there?” Gordon checked inside and let out a happy sigh of relief.
“Oh my god its in there!” He reached towards it and grabbed it. Tommy looked at a photo in the said locker. Gordon noticed Tommy’s eyes looking and he… smiled, he looked so happy.
“That’s my baby.”
Baby? Gordon’s a parent? Tommy and Benrey just stare at the photo of the little infant.
“I have a son, that’s Joshua.”
Benrey raised their eyebrow at the photo; it was rather blurry.
“Looks a bit shit.”
Gordon gave them a look. He felt anger rise up but also didn’t want to receive another threat from Tommy.
“Benrey that’s- I really don’t appreciate you saying that.” Gordon tried to explain, and Benrey responded with their eyes widening.
“Oh no bro I mean the photo is, can’t see shit bro is all bbbbb.”
Gordon looked at the photo and can see what Benrey meant, it was rather blurry. Gordon took his phone out and gave it to Benrey.
“Um, here’s some better photos of him.”
Tommy tensed up seeing Gordon get closer to Benrey, but he also took a look at the photos.
The baby didn’t look the same in the photo, they looked older, like a toddler.
“This was his second birthday.” Gordon explained. “He still adores cowboys, he never leaves his horse alone.”
“Kiddo is uh, how old?” Benrey asked, their curiosity spiking and taking the chance to talk to Gordon in his more calmed state.
“Oh he’s six now… His birthday is in two weeks… I hope I get to see him before then.”
Gordon lets out a sad sigh as he puts his phone away, somehow the HEV suit provided a strange form of pockets on the inside. Tommy couldn’t help but feel a tang of sadness, Gordon wanting to get back to his child, not wanting to abandon them.
That’s one lucky kid.
He shook his head and walked off, not wanting to focus on that feeling any longer.
“What you do with the, lil kiddo?”
“Huh? Oh, well he’s at his, his dad’s right now, to keep him safe while I’m… stuck here.”
“… But we’re gonna get out, yeah bro?”
Gordon looked at Benrey and couldn’t help but give a hopeful smile.
“Yeah, yeah we’ll get out.”
Benrey went to leave but found themselves a bit wedged in the locker.
“Shit, shit shit!” Benrey’s body started tensing up, Gordon saw their eyes start glowing and flicking around the room frantically.
“Get me out of this BOX!”
“Hey, hey, you got to calm down, stop moving for a second!”
Gordon did his best to dodge the thrashes, Benrey shook but did their best, looking at Gordon now. Gordon slowly used his hands to move Benrey’s body to fit out of the locker, the other’s breathing fast from the scare.
“You got some claustrophobia there?” Gordon asked.
“… Wha?”
“… Never mind.” Gordon went to walk off, but he heard Benrey let out a ‘thank you’, he couldn’t help but smile at that. He headed towards the other scientists as he went to introduce himself to them all.
Tommy was somewhat listening, but soon distracted by the guard before and another scientist came towards him.
“Well, fancy seeing you out.”
Tommy glared at the scientist, not wanting to be near them but rather backed into a corner with the large group. He chose to just stare blankly at Gordon as he spoke, ignoring them.
His body felt tense as they got closer, his breathing got faster and his heart was racing.
“I should’ve known giving you any form of freedom was a mistake.” One of them muttered into Tommy’s ear, he kept his cool, he wasn’t going to cause a scene.
“We should have kept you locked up you monster” Another said, Tommy’s fists shook, nails digging into his skin. The guard looked over at Benrey then back at Tommy.
“When this is over, we’ll make sure you and that little freak gets dealt with.”
Tommy felt something snap in him, he dropped an object on the floor and grabbed Benrey’s hand, hurrying them out of the way. Gordon looked down and saw a red light on it and let out a yell, running back before it exploded. Blood and body parts decorating the room.
“Holy shit!” Bubby yelled out as he was knocked to the ground, Benrey quickly clung to Tommy from the sudden noise.
“Who the fuck did that?!”
Gordon looked around the room and saw only he, Benrey, Tommy, Dr Coomer and Bubby were still alive after that, he didn’t suspect Benrey as they were holding onto Tommy in fear earlier, clearly not knowing that was going to happen. He doubts Tommy would do something to scare Benrey like that. Bubby was also genuinely surprised. Dr Coomer is just, doing his thing.
“Who the fuck did that… Who’s throwing grenades in the fucking bathroom-we got to go, c’mon lets go!” Gordon made his way for the exit, Tommy let out a sigh as Benrey let go.
“Broooo that was siiiick.” Benrey looked at the carnage of guts and exploded flesh. Tommy was still fuming with rage and Benrey could feel it.
“Bro? You okay?”
Tommy nodded and took Benrey’s hand, moving them to follow Gordon.
-
Tommy wasn’t in the zone with the others, he was in his own head with his fingers intertwined with Benrey’s.
“When this is over, we’ll make sure you and that little freak gets dealt with.”
No, no he won’t let that happen. He won’t ever let that happen to Benrey again. Benrey felt Tommy’s hand tensing around theirs, they looked up at him and gave his hand a squeeze. The feeling of Benrey’s hand tightening broke his trance and he looked down, meeting Benrey’s smile. His heart leaped for a second and he leant down to place a kiss on their forehead. Benrey smiled up at him, that gleam in their eyes giving Tommy a sense of wanting hope.
His attention was taken by the sound of Gordon’s crowbar hitting a window.
“Can we break in there?” He gave the glass another few hits but after looking inside he backed off.
“Actually, I don’t think we should go in there.”
Oh fuck, looking closer at the room recognition dawns on Tommy, that's his workstation. That's the room where he conducted most of his research. It's one of the few places he's ever felt comfortable in, it even has a drawer filled with his favourite snack, tic tacs. It's all in there, every single piece of research he ever did in this god forsaken place. His work, the one thing, except his friendship with Benrey, that he actually felt proud over. And now it's all trapped in a room infested with fucking head crabs. It's not fair! He felt the anger and frustration rise in his throat, tears stinging in his eyes. For some reason his mind gets hung up on the fucking tic tacs, like if he could at least get those out he won't be left with nothing.
He ran to the glass, punching it.
“N-No! My drawer full of, t-tic tacs are in t-there.” Tommy was pulled back by Benrey as a headcrab pounced on the glass in an attempt to land on Tommy’s face.
“A-a-and my work… a-and…” Tommy shook as Benrey held him closer.
“Bro we, we can get more stuff! When we get out yeah?”
Gordon looked at Tommy and how distressed he was, it made him feel a tug in his chest.
“Hey, hey Tommy?”
Tommy looked over to Gordon, he frowned at the man. Gordon couldn’t help but gulp at his scowl.
“When we get out, I’ll buy you more, okay? I promise.”
"No! You don't- you don't g-get it! M-my life's work is in there. Everything- everything I ever did...it's all that I-I...."
Tommy bit down on his shirt, eyes tightening shut as he was overwhelmed with the emotions burning inside him.
“H-hey, Tommy it’ll be okay… "We... I’m a scientist as well, I understand how much this must be hurting you…” Gordon’s voice was slow and calm, he was trying to not add to Tommy’s stress.
“… Y-Yeah?”
“Yeah, we, I’ll help you get whatever we can, I’ll help you re-write them all.”
“Y-you will…?”
“Yeah bud, I promise.” Gordon smiled at him and the team continued, Tommy was still rather upset that his main physical food source was locked up but… The promise of getting out and there will be more tictacs in the outside world did cheer him up a bit. He then thought about his work, and that Gordon didn’t even know what he was doing but was so quick to offer his help, just to make him feel better despite he’d have to know how long those papers would’ve taken.
“Would you lot stop fucking stalling?” Bubby called out to Benrey, Gordon and Tommy. Tommy shook his head and became aware of his surroundings again.
“Bubby do be patient, it's probably a lot to take in-Hello Gordon!”
“Hello Dr… Yes we’re coming.” Gordon sighed and went on, Tommy and Benrey following behind. Tommy noticed the door to his office and walked over. He stared at it, the door broken and the walls caving in. No way could he open it without something breaking and making it worse.
Benrey noticed and tapped on Gordon’s shoulder, he stopped for a moment and looked at Benrey.
“What now?”
“Uh, wait please? Wait for Tommy?” Benrey looked back to Tommy who was standing by the door. Gordon and Benrey walked over to Tommy, not wanting to leave him to be alone.
“Um… Do you, need a bit of emotional support?” Gordon asked, he kept his distance as Tommy started walking around the room, not wanting to upset him to get in the taller man’s way.
“W-w-what I n-need is m-m-my work…”
“Hey, it’ll be okay… Look we… we should focus on staying alive first.”
“… Hmm...”
“We can’t get your work back if we don’t get out.”
“… Yeah…”
Tommy looked at Gordon and Benrey, he couldn’t understand Gordon’s intentions, but he could see the worry in Benrey’s eyes and the care in the human’s voice. He had to focus, he had to get him and Benrey out, that was what’s important and what he aimed to do.
Dr Coomer and Bubby shared a look at each other while the two silently muttered about the other.
“Fucking youngsters hurry up, always got to dawdle.”
Dr Coomer gave Bubby a small smile.
“Now, now, you were feisty the first time you got out the tube and you still don’t like a lot of workers here!”
“I’m not saying Tommy shouldn’t be upset I’m just saying we should focus on that later.”
Bubby did have a point, only Dr Coomer knew Tommy needed to be given time and patients, everyone would be rather overwhelmed by today’s occurrences. Dr Coomer walked over to the three and tapped Gordon’s shoulder.
“Apologise for interrupting but we must get a move on!”
“O-Oh, yeah right. Let’s go.”
-
Gordon continued to lead the team, his gun at the ready as he walked. Benrey’s ears perked from beneath their helmet, something was on the other side of the door.
This suspicion was confirmed when they heard Gordon cry out in surprise, two alien creatures pouncing out at him. Gordon crashed to the ground with the alien on his chest, snarling at him.
“Oh, shit oh fuck!” Gordon cried out, he had dropped his crowbar and could not reach for it. He shut his eyes, waiting for death. But it never came, instead his ears were met with the clashing of bodies and grunts with a screech. He opened his eyes to see Tommy had tackled the alien to the ground, fists pummelling into its ‘face’ and splattering blood all over his arms and the floor. The alien’s back legs thrashed around, a claw getting caught on Tommy’s leg and slicing the flesh along his thigh. Tommy let out a cry of a pain and the second alien aimed to pounce on Tommy in his distracted state.
“Tommy!”
Benrey leaped out and landed on top of the creature, claws out and scratched at it to distract it from Tommy. Whatever blood this creature has gushed out the wounds, Tommy trying to hold the other off while clutching his leg.
“Holy shit!” Bubby screamed out, Gordon managed to get up and saw Tommy.
“Hold on I have my pistol!”
He grabbed his gun and started firing, doing his best to not hit Tommy. The creature let out a few shrieks and Tommy managed to kick it off before it released a beam of purple rings, Gordon quickly firing more bullets into it.
Benrey was flung to the wall but they threw out another ball which sparked and bounced across the room, shocking whatever it touches. Bubby was quick to dash away from it screaming as he did last time, Gordon and Tommy remained out of the way as the creature was hit and dropped dead.
“Are you alright?” Coomer asked Benrey, they nodded and got up.
“Tommy!”
Benrey rushed over to Tommy, Gordon looked over at the wound and saw blood soaking the man’s pants.
“I-I’m fine…! Is just, l-like a little c-c-cut…”
“Dude that is not fine.”
Gordon looked around for a med station, he couldn’t see any nearby.
“Tommy that is a rather bloody injury! We should pressurise it to at least minimise the bleeding.” Dr Coomer suggested.
“On it bro!” Benrey got up and ran to search for something that could work. Tommy leaned against the wall and levelled his breathing, holding his leg as the blood seeped out.
“… Thank you…”
Tommy looked at Gordon and raised his eyebrow.
“W-w-what?”
“Thank you… For saving me…” Gordon looked away, feeling guilty that Tommy’s now hurt because he had to save his ass. Tommy stayed silent, unsure of how to respond to that. Luckily Benrey had returned with a ripped sleeve of a scientist’s coat.
Dr Coomer took the sleeve and wrapped it around Tommy’s leg, making sure it was tight around the wound. Tommy gave a hiss in discomfort and Benrey gently held his face. He looked into Benrey’s eyes as their thumbs stroked his cheeks.
“Calm down…”
Gordon watched as Benrey and Tommy pressed their heads together, Benrey softly singing to Tommy to calm him down. Tommy brought a hand up to Benrey’s, thumb tracing along the other’s knuckles as he listened to them sing.
Benrey started shaking a little, which caused Tommy to open his eyes in concern.
“Shouldn’t… shouldn’t of let this happen man… Got you… Got you hurt…”
Little tears prickled in Benrey’s eyes but were wiped away by Tommy.
“I-It’ll be okay… Like a, like a-a tree on a, o-on a massive meadow.”
Benrey smiled and slowly helped Tommy up, Dr Coomer assisted in such and Tommy managed to stand on his legs, though now with a bit of a limp.
“Hey uh, Benrey?”
Benrey stopped for a moment to look at Gordon.
“Yeah bro?”
“Just a thought, maybe be more careful with that, passport ball thing.”
The two looked at Bubby who was still running around screaming.
“Maybe uh, if you weren’t so clumsy and getting your… your ass kicked by aliens maybe I wouldn’t have to use it.”
Gordon couldn’t help but chuckle at that, Benrey grinned, Tommy leaned on Benrey as he got used to the limping.
“What would we even call those things?” Gordon asked as they walked past the alien bodies.
“I think we should call them Peeper Puppies!”
“Pepper puppies? Sure… sure thing Dr C-”
“Hello!”
“Pfft.” Gordon smiled and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Let’s go.”
Benrey and Tommy walked a bit ahead of the group, Tommy wasn’t letting his wounded leg stop him. Healing it would be faster but then Gordon would question how he recovered so fast.
“Tommy…?!”
Tommy froze at the sound of that voice, he turned his head to see a scientist, the man was surrounded by body parts from possibly other alien attacks and his clothes stained in blood.
“How the fuck, you shouldn’t be alive! Did you have something to do with this!?”
Benrey snarled at the worker, Tommy’s breathing became faster as his fists curled up into a clench.
“N-Now t-t-there is no B-Black Mesa r-r-rules to protect you though.” Was all he replied. The scientist’s eyes changed to one of pure fear as he backed up. A grin kept up onto Tommy’s face as he stepped closer, but Gordon had arrived and asked who they were talking to.
“Oh thank god, Gordon you’re here.”
Tommy backed up a little, glaring at the worker as Gordon walked closer.
“What happened here…?”
“… He did it, he must have.” Benrey said, they picked up their gun and started pointing it at the worker.
“Hey, hey, hey, let’s have a group vote first.”
Benrey didn’t care for this bullshit, they wanted this monster dead.
“All in favour, say I.”
Benrey didn’t wait for an answer and blew a bullet through the guy’s head, his body dropping to the ground instantly. Gordon stood there in shock as Bubby and Dr Coomer repeated ‘I.’. Tommy was surprisingly quiet.
“Okay so, morality is out the window.”
He watched Benrey return to Tommy, who looks a little shaken but not for reasons Gordon would suspect.
“Jeeze… You really just shot that guy in the face.”
“Yep.”
“I think it's good that he died!” Dr Coomer said with an innocent smile, Gordon staring at him.
“I, I don’t think it is? Let’s just put it on record that I did not say we should’ve killed him.”
-
Gordon rubbed his head as things just kept getting weirder, it only got worse as he saw Benrey with a headcrab jumping on their head, the helmet seemed to be preventing it from doing what it wanted.
“Um, hey maybe you should move. Want me to like, kill that thing that’s trying to get on your head?”
“… Wha? Oh. That?” Benrey said nothing as it suddenly became ablaze.
“Oh no.” They sarcastically continued with a smug smile, Gordon backed up.
“I’m a little afraid of you now, gonna admit that.”
Gordon turned to keep going but now Tommy was in his face.
“W-why?”
“JESUS!” Gordon jumped back and clutched at his chest.
“Dude don’t scare me like that!”
“W-w-why are you afraid of B-Benrey?” Tommy repeated, Gordon took a moment to let his heart slow down.
“Well for one, their head is on fire! Second, I have no fucking idea what they are.”
“T-t-they’re whatever they want t-t-to be Mr Freeman, and a scary m-monster isn’t one o-of them.” Tommy replied, his eyes glaring into Gordon’s. He has to admit he’s pretty afraid of Tommy as well.
“Um, I didn’t mean it like… yeah, um, sorry.”
-
Another damn scientist, and Gordon’s so quick to want to protect them. Its pitiful, Tommy watched as Benrey attempted to shoot another scientist but Gordon’s adamant on no more murder.
Well, no one’s looking at him.
Tommy waits for the worker to lock eyes with him, eyes glow yellow and through the eyelock link, he flicks his wrist, a mist of yellow appearing from it but quickly fading away like dust in the wind. The team stepped back as the man started gasping in pain, arms wrapping around his stomach as he dropped to his knees.
“What the fuck!?”
Gordon tried to reach out but Benrey quickly pulled him away before the body burst into flames as he screamed for mercy. Only no mercy would come. The flesh burns away as the flames die down, Gordon’s heart raced in horror.
“Oh my god…”
“You could’ve helped him Gordon.”
Gordon looked at Dr Coomer with his hands in mid air.
“What do you mean I could’ve helped him!? Benrey what are you doing to him?!”
Benrey stopped mid singing as the sweet voice started sticking to the corpse.
“Wha?”
“He’s encasing him in a cocoon!” Bubby guessed.
Tommy couldn’t help but chuckle a little at Gordon’s face, the poor man looked unbelievably dumbfounded.
“I’m, tripping. Balls…!”
“No bro that’s just me.”
“No Benrey… that’s not what I mean-“
“Hello Gordon!”
Gordon stopped talking and sighed. Tommy gave Benrey a pat on the back to ensure they knew they did nothing wrong.
...
Tommy kicked the rubble from the grenade blast, hearing more gunshots. Probably from that Freeman.
“Don’t shoot at me!”
WHAT!?
Tommy almost tripped from the pain in his leg as he limped to the gunshots and yelling, did Gordon hit Benrey!?
“I’m not shooting at yo-ACK!” Gordon fell to the ground as Tommy tackled him, hands on the other’s wrists and holding them down, teeth bared and eyes piercing.
“T-Tommy! I wasn’t shooting at him, look there’s a fucking headcrab on him!”
Gordon struggled under Tommy’s grip, how can someone so thin be so strong!?
“Ya don’t gotta point the gun at me bro.”
“I wasn’t shooting at you!” Gordon kept thrashing around, trying desperately to get out of Tommy’s hold. His eyes widened as the sight of Gordon’s distressed face below him made him feel sick, he let go of Gordon and quickly got up, watching the man sit up and hug himself. Almost shaking from the ordeal.
“Just, just leave me alone… I’ll stop bothering to help you.” Gordon stood up and walked off, arms still around himself. Tommy felt a knot in his gut, he wanted to reach inside and rip it out.
“Ya did a big scare on him bro.”
Tommy looked over at Benrey who indeed had a headcrab on them, but wasn’t bothered at all by that.
“His… t-the way h-he looked at me… I d-d-didn’t like it.” Tommy tried to explain, Benrey listened but didn’t have anything to say, they weren’t sure what was happening.
“You were, bein’ protective bro.”
“N-No Benny… It’s… Complicated.”
Benrey hopped down and held Tommy’s hand.
“I, I know what you mean bro, but ya not like them. You’re, you’re epic.” They kissed his cheek and walked back to the others. Tommy felt his cheek where Benrey had kissed him and felt his body warm up as it always did.
And then another gunshot.
“Why did you do that?!”
Tommy noticed the dead clone of Dr Coomer in the garbage bin with a bullet in its head.
“My clone!”
-
Some time alone… as often as he felt all alone, it was nice. He hadn’t felt water on its own for so long, it felt nice on his legs, though the way his socks were gripping on his feet was pretty uncomfortable. He moved his leg a little faster as he walked, listening to the ripple effect it had on the water. His eyes followed the waves in the stream. He closed his eyes for a moment, feeling the cool water move against his legs and hear every drop. It was… peaceful.
“YOU GUYS KEEP RUNNING INTO THE FUCKING LINE OF FIRE!”
Mostly, peaceful. Tommy rolled his eyes and turned his attention back to the water. He lifted his leg up and pushed it back down, it made a louder splash noise. Interest spiking, he jumped up and splashed, ignoring the pain in his leg as he’s overcome with a feeling of… joy. He smiled and kept splashing, jumping down the pipes and letting the water hit his uniform with a slight giggle.
“You like the water?”
Tommy froze at hearing Gordon’s voice.
“I don’t think this is the best water to play in, Tommy.”
Tommy’s face went bright red as he turned away, accidentally splashing more water in which Gordon chuckled.
“Just, splish and splashing?”
He’s talking to him like a child, children… ‘play’, he doesn’t, he’s an adult! Even if it was fun… but no, he’s not a child.
“I’m n-n-not playing!” Tommy snapped. This took Gordon by surprise as he watched Tommy.
“Then, what were you doing?”
He reached out to pat Tommy’s shoulder but he moved away.
“I’m t-testing t-the. The Viscosity.” Was all he could think of.
“Hmm.”
“It's quite thick.” Dr Comer added.
“I’m a scientist, r-remember?”
“Yeah, you’re a scientist, that’s realllly helping us tonight.” Gordon said, Tommy heard the sarcasm in his voice and it only made him go redder in the face. His steps became heavier as he followed.
-
Swimming was pretty fun as well, Tommy made sure to go up to pretend to breathe air with the others but other than that, it feels like a form of floating. His gaze fell on Benrey and Gordon blowing bubbles in the water together, Gordon trying to not laugh and inhale the water.
It was… a sight. Benrey was grinning from ear to ear as Gordon was trying to not laugh, bubbles escaping his mouth. Benrey’s hands shook a little in excitement as they blew more bubbles. Only Gordon eventually needed air and they had to hurry back up.
Gordon gasped for air as he reached a ledge to climb up onto, his body flopped onto the pavements as he panted heavily for air.
“Oh man…”
Benrey climbed out and sat on a ledge, shaking a little to get some water off, staring at the water below them and touching their shoes. Tommy grabbed Dr Coomer’s feet and helped push the old man out of the water, Bubby rudely standing on his shoulders and using him as a ladder to get up. Tommy’s head finally surfaced from the water only to be met with a headcrab pouncing on him, he landed back into the water, struggling to get it off.
“TOMMY!”
Gordon sat up when he heard Benrey scream, he saw Tommy struggling underwater and dived back in. Tommy’s hands gripped at the crab as his body thrashed around in the water, Gordon avoided his limbs as he shoved his crowbar into the side of the headcrab, pulling his arm to try and yank it. He heard splashes as more headcrabs jumped into the water. Luckily the team were aiming their guns and firing at those trying to get to Gordon. With Tommy and Gordon’s combined effort they were able to yank the headcrab off, Gordon quickly grabbed Tommy and pulled him above water, coughing hard.
Benrey rushed to them and hugged Tommy, curling up in his arms. The man was breathing heavily, needing time to process what had happened.
“Are you... are you okay man?” Gordon asked, Tommy coughed and nodded, unable to talk at that moment.
“That was quite terrifying!” Dr Coomer said.
“Those motherfuckers don’t stand a chance against us.”
Gordon chuckled a little but worriedly looked at Tommy, he started to sit up and rubbed his face, luckily with only minimal marks. He stood up and pulled Benrey away from the water and to the crates, leaning against them as he sat down. Gordon followed suit and collapsed onto the floor soon after.
“We… we need a break…”
Benrey flopped against Tommy, head on his chest.
“Hello Gordon! That’s a wonderful idea.”
Dr Coomer dropped face first onto the floor, Bubby taking a seat besides him. Gordon’s eyes were so heavy, he felt the need for sleep quickly overcome him at the sound of Benrey softly singing, he chuckled and horribly attempted to sing along but his voice gave out.
Tommy watched the group for a minute, getting over the shock of nearly losing his face. He looked down at Benrey who was nestled under his arm and nuzzling his chest, calming blue balls flying out under a soft tune. It lulled him to join in slumber.

Pt 1 | Pt 2 | Pt 3
Your childhood wasn’t the most ideal. Growing up in the Gang business, you and Kiyoko didn’t have time to play around or make friends with the other kids in the neighbourhood. In fact, you thought that the other kids were scared of you and your sister. It wasn’t a secret that the both of you were children of a gang boss and the people who spoke to you either wanted something from you or for small talk so that they wouldn’t be on your “hit list”.
All of your days were spent with your sister training to eventually take over the Karasuno gang business. However, there was an unspoken rule, only one of you would become the next leader and the other one would be their first kill.
It was supposed to be decided when both of you were above 18, but you found out when you were 16. One night you couldn’t sleep and went downstairs for a snack. You heard parents talking and apparently you were in the lead to take over. They tried to prevent it from happening, but it was a family tradition and when they argued against it, it was shot down quickly by your grandfather. Your father was lucky, he was an only child, and that was your parent’s plan too, but from what you heard, you were an accidental baby.
How could you kill your own sister? The person who you grew up with? Probably the only other person who understood what your life was like. You made a choice.
You failed every test and trial your trainers gave you. You skipped practice and let your sister win matches between the two of you. However, sometimes people are born with a natural talent for things, drawing, music, and you were born with the talent to be a leader and trained to be a killer. People would listen to you without much persuasion and despite you ruining your weekly tests, it didn’t erase the past ones you did.
Now it was different, back then, you did them without knowing the price you would have to pay if you won.
The week before your eighteenth birthday, before they would officially decide, you confronted your parents.
“I know that one of us is going to die at the end,” you said during dinner. Kiyoko was out doing something, probably getting in extra training with her training buddy Sawamura, using up the one free pass your parents gave you each month to do whatever you wanted.
Your mother dropped her fork. “(Y/N)...”
You looked up at them. Your mother’s eyes were already glistening. Sometimes you wondered how she became a part of the family. She was sweet and compassionate, everything you’d expect to not be associated with the gang business, a bleeding heart. Your father was a little more ruthless, but you knew that he was loyal, especially to his family.
“I heard you two talking a couple of years ago,” you continued. “And I tried to not do well with our trainers, but I overheard one of the security guards talking about it and…”
“You’re the choice my dad wants,” your father said, putting down his fork.
You nodded. For a while, nobody said anything and all of the food was left untouched.
“I don’t want my sister to die,” You said. “Pick her.”
“That….that means you'll die….” Your mother whispered.
You took her hand. “It’s okay.”
“It’s not,” your father said.
You sighed. “Is there any other way? Can’t one of us just not take it? Or leave?”
“It doesn’t work that way,” your father said, looking down. “If they choose you to be the leader, you kill the person you’re competing with. If you don’t, then they would have the next family in line kill them. Either way, one of you dies.”
“I don’t believe that,” you said.
The door opened.
“Is there still dinner?” Kiyoko said, poking her head around the wall towards the dinner table. “Yes! I’m not too late!”
You would have one more day, your birthday, before you left. You would let your mom bake you a cake, your father would force himself the day off and your sister would give you something nice.
You had it all planned out. After the cake and the meal, you would leave and never come back into Karasuno territory. You already let one of the guards know that you were using your free pass at around 3 am to train, so they wouldn’t suspect anything. Thankfully, it went as designed, except that your mother caught you at the front door.
“You weren’t going to say goodbye?”
You smiled at her. “It’s easier this way. I can’t let you know where I’m going. I don’t even know. At least we’ll all survive.”
Your mother took a step towards you and took you in her arms. “Stay safe? Okay? I mean it.”
You pulled her closer. “Of course. You too.”
Your mother pulled away and reached into her pocket, pulling out a wad of cash. “I saw the way you looked at dinner. It’s all I had in the house.”
You took the money, put it in your pocket, and leaned over to kiss your mom on the cheek. “I’ll be okay. I love you, mom.”
One month after, you got word of your parent’s death. You moved into Neokma territory and started from there. They didn’t have any deathly family traditions and were more open around the general public. All of the secrecy you learned from your training in Karasuno was useless. They were bonded together by trust instead of loyalty.
Kuroo told you. He caught wind of what happened and told you over lunch, not knowing that they were your parents. With the news of that, came the new head of the Karasuno clan, Kiyoko.
All you heard were rumours. Rumours about yourself, how the mystery second child of Karasuno had gone missing, thankfully no one disclosed anything else about you, but the worst ones were about your parents. The rumours of how they died mostly stayed the same: The former leader killed them.
You couldn’t go to Karasuno territory to see for yourself if it was true, so you asked Kuroo. He did it with hesitation, but did it nonetheless. He came back to you with confirmation that it was true.
He told you that it had something to do with the mystery daughter leaving and you stopped him before he could tell you the rest.
You kept your ear out for a little bit after that, making sure that the information that Kuroo gave was correct.
It was.
The week after you found out, he became your first unofficial kill.
Your grandfather.
“Hey!” Kiyoko shouted.
You turned your head from the one way glass.
“Good day isn’t it.”
Kiyoko went up to you and shoved you hard into the glass. “What’s wrong with you? You could have killed Koushi and for what? To look cool? I should kill you myself.”
“Woah,” Sugawara said, stepping in between you two. “I’m alive thanks to (Y/N).”
“What?”
“The person was coming up from behind him,” you said, straightening out your shirt. “He would’ve known something if I said anything. He was close by.”
“He?” Kiyoko asked.
You pointed behind you through the one way glass. A man sat in the middle of the room. His hands were tied behind the back and his legs were bound to the chairs. His shirt was stained with dry blood both from his face and the shot you took at his right shoulder. His head hung low, but you could see the bruising and wet blood spots on his face. Kuroo was standing in front of him with a crowbar, leaning it on his shoulder like a baseball player getting ready to bat.
“You’re torturing him?” Sugawara asked, his voice small.
“He probably has information,” Kiyoko said.
You raised your eyebrows. It’s no secret that every clan of gang has their own way of getting information, most of the time involving inhumane ways to do it too. You knew Karasuno’s way to a T, but you weren’t going to tell anyone that. No one really knew you were originally from Karasuno except for Kiyoko and probably Sawamura if he could put it together.
“Couldn’t you ask him?” Sugawara suggested.
“Sure,” you laughed. “And I’ll make him a nice lunch too.”
Kiyoko looked at her phone. “Koushi, could you go get Daichi? He’s at the garage door facing the back alleyway.”
“I don’t know where that is...” he said.
“I’ll go,” you told them, already moving from your spot.
Kiyoko grabbed your arm. “No,” she told him. “Go ask someone.”
Sugawara nodded and caught your eye before leaving to find Sawamura.
You glared at her. “Do you only enlist bleeding hearts into Karasuno?”
“You could’ve hired anyone you wanted if you stayed,” she said, crossing her arms. “But you ran away. Probably like how you handle most things. I wonder what would be the trigger for Neokma.”
You swallowed. This never came up between the two of you. The first time you saw each other after the night you left was at the monthly Karasuno and Neokma meeting, that time to introduce the new leader of Neokma, you. You saw the moment of shock on her face and then the business face a moment later.
Lesson #10 you learn in Karasuno, never give your enemies or people you don’t trust any reaction. They don’t deserve it.
Now, you were the surprised one. You always assumed that your parents or your grandfather, before you killed him, told her the tradition in the change of leadership. Another rule that Karasuno had, things had to go on as normal. Even if the leader died or someone important did, it would be business as usual and that’s exactly how it was when your grandfather died.
“Do you know how our parents died?” You asked.
Kiyoko took a hastily step back like she was being shot. She turned to face Kuroo and the man again, actively avoiding your eye contact. “Grandfather said it was a crossfire, but there were no meetings or anything that night. I checked. He wouldn’t let me see them.”
Kiyoko was in the dark about everything.
“Kiyoko, I have—”
“Where’s Koushi with Daichi?” She interrupted. “They should’ve been back by now?”
Kuroo opened the door and swung the crowbar like it was a golf club. “He wants to talk to you now.”
“Who?” Kiyoko asked.
“Both of you.” He opened the door further and gestured both of you into the room.
He was coughing up blood, his teeth covered in blood as he gave you a smile. “My favourite people are here!”
You looked at Kiyoko.
“You know us?” You asked.
“Of course I know you! You two don’t really look alike though which I think is a shame. If I had a sibling I would want them to look like me.”
“How vain,” Kiyoko said.
“You're siblings?” Kuroo asked, furrowing his brow.
The man coughed. “Right? I couldn’t really believe it at first too.”
“What do you want?” You sneered.
“Things were supposed to go quietly,” he rambled, shaking his head. “You should have just let me shoot you and that Sugawara person. It would’ve been one more dead body then asked, but I don't think they would mind.”
You froze.
“Who would mind?” Kiyoko demanded.
Kuroo took a step closer to you.
“I wonder what you had to do to make them hate you so much,” he laughed. “I didn’t expect you to see me, though. Then BAM! I’m shot and now I’m here.”
“What are you talking about?” Kuroo said, kicking the man in the leg. The man flinched in pain and started coughing up more blood.
“I thought we talked about not killing them until they told us something,” you said, glaring at Kruoo.
“And I listened. I didn’t do anything that would kill him.”
“I think it’s poison,” Kiyoko said, taking a step closer to him.
“And we have a winner!” He said laughing. He was shaking a little bit and blood rain down his chin like a river.
“Poison?” Kuroo asked. “I didn’t do it.”
“No,” you said, shaking your head. “Sometimes when you get sent to do something dangerous that shouldn't take long, people in a gang will give you a slow acting poison to make sure that if you’re captured you would die before you could say anything.”
“It’s kind of a pride thing though,” Kiyoko added. “Most leaders don’t implicate it because they believe they train their members well enough that they wouldn’t need the poison, that they would be able to resist it on their own. It’s also risky. Everyone reacts to different poisons so they might die before they even get a chance to do it.”
Your blood went cold and you took a step back.
“(Y/N)?” Kuroo asked.
“That person’s got it…” The man chuckled and then slumped into the chair.
You looked over to Kiyoko with wide eyes. “Aoba Johsai uses it.”
Kiyoko stopped and then rushed out. You followed quickly after her. You knew the one place that she was thinking of.
The door to the garage alleyway was wide opened by the time the three of you got there. The Karasuno car had the driver's seat door opened and droplets of blood on the floor.
On the hood of the car were words spray painted a light teal: Let the games begin.
So my one shot is late again….what's new? Sorry about that!!!
The next part of this is probably going to be long so wait for that please!!
One thing I kind of regret though is that it’s not really a romantic x reader? Like it’s not really heavy on Daichi x reader x Sugawara? Sorry about that :( I’ll try my best for the next one!!
I think the dynamic I was going for was that they remind the reader of their mom who was like that ( a bleeding heart in the gang business) and has grown attached to them in that way?
Anyways...I hope that you enjoyed it!! - Kiwi

Family
Pairing - Steve Harrington x platonic!reader
Word Count - 5,997
Warning - none
A/N - this is my first request and I couldn’t be more excited about writing it! if anyone would like to request something, I write for so many different fandoms that can all be found under my master list! some that I write for haven’t even been added yet so always feel free to ask! for this request I have decided to explore a Steve and Y/N brother/sister bond much like the one seen in my In-Between series (this is in no way connected to the series though and will showcase a little Dustin Henderson x reader) anyways, I really hope everyone likes this!
Request - I love the fact that Steve and Y/N have a brother sister relationship in the In-Between and I was wondering if you could do something on that like him being protective of the reader during the tunnels scene in ST2 @nerdy-collector-festival
Steve Harrington and Y/N L/N didn't have the best parents in the world. With neither one of their parents ever home and an empty house most of the time, the two were often left to fend for themselves and it had been like that from a young age.
The only source of comfort either of them had was each other. Y/N and Steve's parents had been best friends since college, so since the day Y/N was born Steve was always by her side. Neither of them even minded the five year age gap between them and still considered the other to be their best friend and the person they hung out the most with.
Or that was how it used to be before the events of 1983 where the two witnessed some horrific events that were sure to be in their nightmares for the rest of their lives. It was that night when Y/N was fighting to save one of her other best friends Will Byers and Steve was trying to protect Y/N from a demogorgon that the two realized just how much the other meant to them.
And that realization was almost too much for either of them to handle. After having practically no family for their whole lives and then realizing that their best friend, the person who they cared about most in the world, was their family was enough to make them both take a step back and away from each other.
They didn't know how to handle this new realization and neither wanted to harm their friendship, even if by the two pulling away it meant exactly that.
So the year after the events of 1983 was tough for the two. It's not that they never hung out with each other cause they did, but their normal hangouts just weren't as frequent, the two finding new people to hang around more often. For Steve that was Nancy Wheeler, his girlfriend who he put all of his time and love into. For Y/N that was the members of the Party or more specifically Dustin Henderson who she had grown to develop a small crush on over the past year.
But then Halloween in 1984 hit and the two were thrust back into each other's lives, both of them realizing how stupid and ignorant they had been over the past year but still knowing that nothing had changed. Steve was still the protective brother — or mom as Y/N liked to say — that he was and Y/N was still just as loving and protective as any other sister.
However, the year they spent semi-away from each other made Y/N realize just how much she had depended on Steve. She had expected him to keep her steady when she needed it most, to protect her from everything bad, and to cheer her up whenever she felt down. It annoyed her when she thought about it and she felt guilty and ashamed for having put such a big responsibility on Steve for all of these years, wondering if all he had ever seen her as was just that—a responsibility.
So when the Party had all decided to head to the tunnels that connected to the Mind Flayer, the latest antagonist who currently had control of Will and who Eleven was trying to defeat, Y/N knew that Steve was only tagging along to make sure that she was safe and to keep her out of trouble. This was enough to make her frustrated and even upset, especially when she saw Steve get beat up by Billy Hargrove just because of her.
"Guys," Steve's voice rang through her ears causing the young girl to snap out of her thoughts as she continued to get supplies out of the back of the car, the others all roaming around her as they too got ready to enter the tunnels down below. "Oh, no. Guys."
"Hey, where do you think you're going? What are you, deaf? Hello? We are not going down there right now," Steve yelled almost deliriously as he looked around at the kids. His eyes flickered over to Y/N and Dustin who were busy putting goggles on and bandanas over their faces. He gave them a pointed look and said, "I made myself clear."
Y/N rolled her eyes and continued to struggle putting her goggles on while Steve babbled on beside them, slowly coming more and more to his senses as he managed to pull himself up onto his feet.
"Hey, there's no chance we're going to that hole, all right? This ends right now!" Steve yelled in frustration, but everyone continued to ignore him.
Dustin told his eyes at the boy and turned to Y/N, gently grabbing her goggles and fixing them on her face as he looked back at Steve.
"Steve, you're upset, I get it. But the bottom line is, a party member requires assistance, and it is our duty to provide that assistance," Dustin said, not noticing the small blush on Y/N's face as he finished fixing her goggles and gave her a small smile.
Y/N quickly cleared her throat and looked to the older boy who furrowed his eyebrows slightly at the two before shaking his head and locking eyes with her. "Listen, Harrington, I know you promised Nance that you would keep us safe," Y/N said as she grabbed a backpack that had Steve's bat poking out of it. She shoved it into his hands a little roughly before saying, "So man the fuck up and do your job."
She then gave the boy a sickly sweet smile and pulled her bandana over half of her face and grabbed a crowbar and a container of fuel before walking away without another word. Dustin smiled after her before noticing Steve looking at him. "She's amazing," Dustin said almost dreamily before he hurried along after the girl leaving Steve frowning and mumbling to himself.
Y/N didn't hesitate to jump down into the tunnel, the others surrounding her as they looked down the dirt tunnel that had floating pieces of decay in the air. The young girl grimaced before someone landing beside her had her turning to see Steve standing there. His head moved towards her and they both stared at each other for a moment before she nodded her head at him, the boy returning it almost instantly.
Steve then looked away before letting his eyes flicker over the scenery around him. "Holy shit," he breathed out, the fact that the decaying place they were in was supposed to be the ground underneath a pumpkin farm seeming totally wrong.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's this way," Mike called out as he glanced up from the map he was looking at, an X marking the spot that they had determined to be the best place to set up their trap.
"You're pretty sure, or you're certain?" Dustin called out from where he was looking just a little ways away.
"I'm 100% sure!" Mike replied. "Just follow me and you'll know."
Y/N glanced at Dustin and the two shrugged before beginning to walk after Mike who had started down one of the paths. Steve looked at them as if they were crazy, which was hard for them to see because of the mask, and he quickly stopped Mike before saying, "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hey, hey, hey, hey. I don't think so."
"What?" Y/N asked annoyed as she turned to look at the boy.
"Any of you little shits die down here, I'm getting the blame," Steve explained. "Got it, dipshit? From here on out, I'm leading the way. L/N, you stick by my side, okay? Come on, let's go."
Steve began to walk forward, but didn't go far because Y/N wasn't by his side. He threw his head back in her direction as if to give her a pointed look and Y/N huffed before reluctantly leaving Dustin's side to go walk beside Steve.
It was only when she was by his side that the boy began to walk forward, knowing that if she was by his side he would be able to see if anything was going to happen to her. Steve glanced back at the others and gestured in front of him as if to tell them to hurry up.
"Come on. Hey, a little hustle."

The further the group got into the back of the tunnels, the grosser it became. Y/N felt as if she were going to puke by the time they reached these decaying flower looking things, the way they moved and the sound it made making her stomach churn.
"God," she muttered as she held a hand to her stomach.
Steve instantly glanced over at her. "You okay? Do you need us to head back?" he asked worriedly, the action making Y/N groan inwardly as she was once again reminded by how much of a burden and responsibility she was.
"I'm fine," she grumbled, but that seemed to be enough for Steve who looked back ahead as he led the group forward.
"What is this place?" Max questioned, her nose crinkling up underneath her bandana.
Steve ignored the girl seeing as he didn't know the answer to her question and just said, "Guys, come on. Keep moving."
The kids all shared a look before following after the older boy, none of them noticing Dustin who had paused to look up at one of the pulsing flower buds above him. "What the hell?" he muttered, but the words had barely left his mouth before the thing was suddenly shooting something through the air at him, the decay and dust hitting Dustin right in the face and causing the boy to scream.
Y/N was the first to hear Dustin scream and she instantly perked up before turning and realizing that the boy was no longer with them. "Dustin!" she cried out before running back in the direction they came.
"Y/N!" Steve yelled as he tried to grab her, but the girl was already gone.
"Shit! Help! Help! Help!" Dustin yelled as Y/N turned a corner to find the boy stumbling in her direction. His body collided with hers almost instantly and he gripped onto her arms while she tried to steady him.
"Dustin," she breathed out as her eyes scanned him for any injuries, but it was hard for her to tell when he was moving around frantically and still screaming slightly out of terror.
"Shit!" Dustin screamed.
"Dustin!" Lucas, Max, Mike, and Steve exclaimed as they came running back over to them.
"What happened?" Y/N asked worriedly as she gripped onto the boy.
Dustin whimpered slightly before saying, "It's in my mouth! Some got on my mouth! Shit!" The boy pulled away from Y/N to have a coughing attack all while the five of them stared at him worriedly. Y/N backed into Steve slightly in fright, the older boy placing a hand on her shoulder to tell her that he was there.
Dustin continued to cough for a bit longer and even pulled his bandana down before he suddenly went quiet, his body freezing before he turned his head to them and said in a totally normal voice, "I'm okay."
"You serious?" Max asked as the group all relaxed, Dustin just staring up at them through his goggles as he gave them a nervous smile.
"Very funny, man. Nice. Very nice," Steve muttered before he turned and began to walk away. "Jesus, what an idiot."
Everyone began to walk away except for Y/N who just stared at Dustin with her arms crossed in front of her body. Dustin stared at her in silence before whispering out a questioning, "I'm sorry?"
Y/N couldn't stop herself from chuckling softly as she went over and held a hand out for the boy. Dustin quickly took it and she helped him up onto his feet, the boy stumbling slightly into her so that they stood face to face.
"You idiot," she muttered as she stared at her, her eyes flickering over his face while he just gave her a small smile. "I thought you were about to die before my eyes or something."
"I would never," Dustin replied making Y/N chuckle before she pulled her bandana down and leaned forward to press a small kiss to his cheek.
Dustin's smile instantly fell, his whole face being covered by an expression of shock while Y/N put her bandana back over her face. "Good," she said all while Dustin looked to her and let a goofy grin appear on his face.
"Y/N L/N, why is there any empty spot by my side?" Steve's voice echoed through the tunnels making Y/N groan and lean her head against Dustin's shoulder for a moment.
"I'm coming! Don't get your panties in a twist," Y/N yelled back before she chuckled and held a hand out for Dustin, the boy smiling at her and taking her hand before the two ran to catch up with the others.
- - -
"Alright, Wheeler," Steve said as he looked at the room around them that had multiple tunnels attaching to it, "I think we found your hub."
"Let's drench it," Mike announced as he looked to the Party, the kids all nodding in response. Y/N picked up her container of fuel and was about to start dumping out its contents when Steve stopped her.
"Yeah, you and flammable liquid? Not a good idea," Steve muttered as he took the container from the girl's hand and shoved it towards Max who took it, but not without giving Y/N an apologetic look.
"Steve," Y/N sighed in frustration, her eyes flickering up to the boy who she knew was just trying to protect her. "I can help."
"I'm just trying to keep you safe. That's why I'm here, isn't it?" Steve questioned as he glanced at the girl. He noticed Y/N's shoulders slump and sighed before squeezing her shoulder. "I know you can help, squirt. But right now, it's my responsibility to make sure you're safe."
Then the boy walked away to make sure the other kids weren't being idiots, leaving Y/N staring after him practically shaking in anger.
A presence beside her had the girl turning to see Dustin standing there with his head tilted to the side. "You okay?" he asked, his voice soft and laced with concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just frustrated is all," Y/N replied as she glanced back over at Steve. "I'm not just some responsibility of his, you know?"
"Y/N, Steve doesn't think of you as just some responsibility. You're-" Dustin began, but the girl shook her head.
"Sorry, Dustin. I just. . .I need to be alone for a couple of minutes," she muttered before walking away, obviously still upset and frustrated much to Dustin's dismay.
Dustin sighed and went back to drenching the area around him, the others all working silently as they could practically feel the tension radiating off of Y/N towards the unsuspecting Steve.
They drenched every inch of that place while Y/N watched from the side, her scowl hidden by the bandana over her face. It was only when the place was covered that they joined the girl at the edge of the tunnel they had come down a couple of minutes before.
Y/N shook off her anger and reached into her pocket for the small lighter, a smile beginning to grow on her face as she realized maybe she wasn't going to be completely helpless.
"You ready?" Steve asked, his eyes staring at the place before him, still not having noticed Y/N holding the lighter.
"Yeah."
"Ready."
"Ready."
Dustin glanced at Y/N and gave her a small nod before saying, "Light her up."
Y/N smirked under her mask before opening her lighter, a flame instantly becoming visible and finally drawing Steve's attention. The boy's eyes widened and he was quick to reach out and try and stop the girl.
"Yeah, no. Someone else is doing this, not you," Steve demanded as he tried to grab for the lighter, but Y/N was quick and held her hand away, making the others back away from the flame in her hand.
"What? Why?" Y/N asked in a panicked voice.
"Cause I don't want you getting hurt, you got that?" Steve muttered angrily as he tried to reach for the lighter again. "Y/N."
"Can you stop worrying about me for one second and let me help out?" Y/N asked a tad bit aggressively. "Since we've gotten down here all you've done is baby me! I can take care of myself, thank you very much."
Steve's eyes widened and he raised his eyebrows even though no one could tell. They did see him cross his arms, however, and heard him say, "See, this is where you're wrong. All I'm trying to do is protect you."
Y/N scoffed and Steve tried to reach for the lighter again. "I'm trying to keep your ass from getting hurt, got that? I've been taking care of you since day one, L/N! You've gotten into so much shit that I can't even count it anymore!" Steve groaned in frustration.
Y/N froze slightly before turning to the boy in anger, her eyes blazing with a fire more intense than the one in her hand. "Well, quit taking care of me! If I'm such a burden then why don't you just leave me the hell alone, huh? You didn't even have to come here, asshole!" she yelled.
Steve sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "You know I did," he said.
"No, you didn't. I'm not your fucking responsibility! So quit acting like that's all I am," Y/N hissed, her eyes pricking with tears and making Steve freeze.
A silence fell among the group and Steve was frozen for a second longer before he glanced at the others who had all looked away. It was then that he realized that Y/N actually did believe she was nothing more than a responsibility to him. This made the boy frown and he went to place a hand on her shoulder as he whispered, "Y/N, you're not-"
Y/N was quick to shove the boy away, a determined look on her face as she turned back to the tunnel. "Not right now, Harrington. It's time to light this motherfucker up," she muttered before tossing the lighter into the pit.
The room instantly went up in flames and their eyes widened before Y/N began to whack Mike and Dustin who were closest to her. "Go, go, go!" she yelled as a loud shrieking sound filled the air, the ground popping up and flailing around them, finally exposing the parts of the Mind Flayer.
Y/N stumbled slightly as she tried to get up, but Steve didn't hesitate to grab ahold of her jacket and pull her onto her feet. Y/N glanced back at him, but he wouldn't meet her eyes as he shoved her forward and in front of him, the fire beginning to make its way towards them as he yelled, "Let's go, let's go!"
Y/N felt a feeling of guilt wash over her and she frowned slightly as she realized that she might have been a little harsh on Steve. However, the boy didn't give her time to do or say anything before he was shoving her again and yelling, "Move, Y/N!"
The girl nodded and began to rush forward along with the others, Steve right behind them. All Y/N could hear as they ran was the shrieking coming from the small cave and Dustin beside her yelling, "Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God! Oh, my God!"
It was only when they were a little over halfway of the way back to where they had come in that something grabbed ahold of Y/N's foot, instantly yanking the girl to the ground while the others all ran forward.
A scream escaped her lips, her arms outstretched as she yelled, "Help! Help!" Steve was the first to react and it was like his instincts kicked in making him run faster than he ever had before. Steve was back by the girl's side within seconds, his bat raised in the air before he began hitting the slimy tentacle that was wrapped around Y/N's leg.
"Steve!" Y/N cried out in a panic as the thing began to drag her, but then Mike and Lucas were behind her and pulling her back while Steve continued to whack the tentacle.
It took a few more hits before the tentacle thing broke in half, instantly letting go of the girl. Y/N was screaming at this point, the part still attached to her leg squeezing her ankle so hard it felt like it was cutting off the circulation. Steve had the thing off of her leg in a matter of seconds before he quickly grabbed her arm and pulled her up onto her feet.
Y/N gripped onto the boy's arm frantically while he stared at her with wide eyes. "Are you okay? Y/N, are you okay?" he asked as he tried to calm the shaking girl down. All Y/N could do was bury her face into the boy's side while Steve just held her tightly.
"Guys, we gotta go! We gotta go now!" Dustin exclaimed as he tried to shove the group forward, but a growl suddenly had the group freezing in place.
Standing behind them, in the direction that they needed to go was a demodog. However, this one seemed to be a little different than the others.
"Dart," Dustin breathed out as he took a step towards the creature, an action that had Y/N quickly reaching out for the boy and patching onto his arm before pulling him back to her.
"Dustin, get back!" Y/N exclaimed as she held the boy close to her, her body leaning against Steve for support while the group all looked at the boy like he was crazy.
The demodog made some sort of noise that sounded like chatter and Dustin stared at him for a minute before glancing at Y/N. "It's okay, Y/N. Trust me," he whispered. Y/N was wide eyed as she stared at Dustin, but she eventually let her hold on him drop as she put all of her trust into the boy.
Dustin nodded slightly at Y/N as if to say thanks and to assure her that he would be fine before he turned and took a step closer to the demodog. "Hey. It's me, it's me. It's just your friend, it's Dustin. It's Dustin, all right?" he said as he pulled the goggles up onto his forehead and the bandana down from his face. He smiled softly at the creature before kneeling down in front of it. "You remember me? Will you let us pass?"
Dart suddenly snarled in Dustin's face, its own face opening up like a flower to showcase its teeth making the group all jump back and Y/N gasp in fright. Dustin didn't seem fazed and just sighed, "Okay, okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry about the storm cellar. That was a pretty douchey thing to do. You hungry? Yeah?"
The group watched as Dustin began to take his backpack off with the intention of pulling food out of it for the demodog. Lucas raised his eyebrows and muttered, "He's insane."
"Shut up," Y/N and Steve hissed at the boy making Lucas hold his hands up in surrender.
"I've got our favorite," Dustin announced as he pulled a small candy bar out of his backpack. "See? Nougat." Dart grunted in reply and Dustin took that as a good sign before breaking off a piece and tossing it onto the ground. Dart leaned forward and sniffed the candy before slowly beginning to eat it which made Dustin smile.
"Look at that. Yummy. Here, all right? Eat up, buddy," Dustin said before tossing the rest of the candy onto the ground. He then stood up and glanced back at his friends before nodding at them to go ahead.
"Come on. Come on," Steve whispered as he began to walk forward, his hand intertwined with Y/N who wouldn't let go. "Let's go."
The group slowly snuck by Dart and watched as Dustin smiled at the creature, "There's plenty. I've got more." Dustin threw one more bar onto the ground before staring down at the demodog. He smiled sadly before whispering, "Goodbye, buddy."
He then turned and his eyes locked with Y/N who merely held a hand out for him. Dustin took it and the group began to move forward again, leaving Dart behind to eat his nougat while Steve's voice echoed in the air.
"Let's go, let's go!"
- - -
The group hadn't been walking for long before they soon realized that the demodogs were after them, the roaring behind them being enough evidence to prove the fact. Steve was pulling Y/N along at this point, the other kids all stumbling behind them as they ran through the tunnel.
"Run! Run! Let's go! Let's go!"
"There!" Y/N yelled as she pointed a little ways ahead of them where the rope they had used to get down into the tunnels could be seen hanging in the hole.
The group picked up their speed and made it to the rope where Max instantly began to climb up with the help of Steve. Lucas went next and then Mike before Dustin quickly followed.
That left Steve and Y/N, the later shoving the boy towards the rope and saying, "It's easier if you go up and then pull me up from there! Now move!" Steve didn't have time to yell back because the growling was only getting closer and the kids were all yelling at him to hurry up.
"Come on! Let's go. Go, go, go! Let's go! Come on! Come on!" Lucas and Mike yelled as they struggled to help the boy up. Y/N felt herself relax once she saw that Steve made it, but as soon as he had turned to help pull her up, the growling had reached them and Y/N could see the demodogs barreling towards her.
It was like everything moved in slow motion at that point, her head moving so that her eyes locked with Steve's, a panicked look on her face as she screamed out, "Steve!"
"No!" Steve yelled, but it was too late, the demodogs were there. Y/N gripped onto the rope and squeezed her eyes shut, wanting nothing more than a peaceful and quick death, but before she knew what was happening, there was a soft thud in front of her before two arms wrapped around her.
Y/N blinked her eyes open before gasping at the sight of Steve holding her protectively as he held his body like a shield for the girl. Y/N knew it wouldn't do much to keep the demodogs away, but she didn't think too much of it as she just gripped onto the boy and dug her face into his side.
The demodogs pounced at them, but to their surprise, they only seemed to move around them, their destination being something behind them. The two pulled away from each other to watch the demodogs rush by, both of them confused as to what was going on before they heard Mike whisper from above, "Eleven."
It was when the demodogs were gone that Y/N finally allowed herself to look to Steve, her eyes wide with surprise at the fact that he had just tossed himself in front of her to protect her. Steve was breathing heavy and he pulled the bandana off of his face before tossing the goggles off and letting his eyes lock with the girl.
A heavy silence fell among the two and all Steve could do was stare at the girl who was staring back at him with teary eyes filled with confusion.
"You're not just my responsibility," Steve finally said, his eyes flickering over the girl's face as he watched her inhale sharply. "I've known you since you were just a baby, L/N. I care about you more than I care about anyone else in this shitty town."
He paused for a moment before whispering, "You're my family, Y/N." The words were enough to make her breath catch in her throat, a few tears rolling down her cheeks as she just stared at the boy in surprise.
Steve gulped and ran a hand through his hair as he gave her a nervous smile, "And it's my responsibility to keep my family safe."
Y/N's mouth fell open slightly as if she were about to say something, but nothing came out. Luckily for her, she was saved by Max yelling out, "Guys, come on!"
Steve nodded and quickly picked Y/N up before pushing her up so that she could grab onto the hands of her friends. She was instantly pulled into Dustin's arms, the boy gripping onto her tightly as the others all joined in on hugging the girl who they thought had been a goner only moments before.
While this happened, Steve managed to climb his way out of the hole, letting out a small grunt as he pulled himself up onto his feet. He took in a deep breath before turning his head, his eyes instantly locking with Y/N who gave him a small smile.
Steve couldn't help but smile back before he nodded at the girl and began walking back towards the car. And all Y/N could do was stare after him with unspoken words on the tip of her tongue.
You're my family too.
- - -
"Holy shit, aren't you looking gorgeous tonight," Steve teased as he leaned against his car, his eyes on Y/N who was walking towards his car in a navy dress, her hair back in a messy braid while her navy converse squeaked against the ground.
Y/N blushed and tugged at her dress slightly, feeling a bit uncomfortable and wanting nothing more than to be in her favorite pair of sweatpants right at that moment. "Shut up," she muttered, her cheeks heating up even more when Steve let out a small laugh.
"Oh, come on. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I can't compliment you?" Steve questioned, his eyebrows raising as he stared at the girl with a small sparkle in his eyes, his smile so wide that his cheeks had begun to hurt.
He couldn't help but feel like a proud older brother in that moment as he stared at the girl before him. It felt like only yesterday she was still learning to tie her shoes and now here she was all dressed up and about to attend the big dance at school with a boy.
"No, I just. . .I don't know. I feel weird," Y/N muttered as she stared down at her feet.
"Don't be. You look beautiful and I'm sure Dustin is going to love it," Steve teased, the girl blushing even more at the mention of the boy who had asked her to the Snowball dance only a couple days prior. It had taken him two weeks to build up the courage to ask her and, with the help of Steve, the two were now going to be attending the dance together with Steve being their chauffeur.
"Speaking of Dustin, we need to go pick him up," Steve muttered as he glanced at the time on his watch. He pushed himself off of his car before opening up the door for the girl and smiling at her. "Come on, Princess. Let's go pick up your Prince Charming."
"Steve!" Y/N complained, but all the boy could do was chuckle in response as the girl hopped into the car.
The two sang along to their favorite songs all the way to Dustin's house, but by the time they reached the place and were waiting on said boy to come out, a silence had fallen among the two that made them both shift uncomfortably in their seats.
The two hadn't spoken about what Steve had said that day in the tunnels, neither of them knowing how to address it or what to even say. Their friendship was finally back on track, now with the exception of Y/N spending some more time with her other friends and allowing the two to have the necessary space away from each other that they needed in order for their relationship to grow.
But something was different and it mostly had to do with what had happened in the tunnels. Y/N knew she needed to address the situation, but she was still unsure on how to bring it up. Luckily for her, her nerves from having to see Dustin in a couple of minutes had her blurting out her feelings on the spot, making her predicament a whole lot easier.
"I think of you as family too, you know."
The words falling from her lips were enough to make both Steve and Y/N freeze almost instantly. Steve was the first to move and he let his eyes flicker over to the girl who blushed and looked down at her hands as she shrugged.
"You're all I've ever had since day one," she whispered as if it were obvious. "You're the only family I really know. I don't even care that we aren't blood related. You're more of a family to me than my own parents and sometimes I don't always show it. And I just. . ." Y/N paused before looking to the boy. "I really am thankful for you, you know?"
Steve was silent as he stared at her and Y/N couldn't help but feel like time was ticking by at an excruciatingly slow pace as she awaited some sort of response. But finally, a smile appeared on the boy's face and he softened slightly as he looked at her before he whispered, "I'm thankful for you too, squirt. I love you."
Y/N smiled almost instantly and whispered, "I love you too."
Steve chuckled and reached out to ruffle the girl's hair. "Hey!" Y/N cried in protest and she quickly tried to fix her hair, however, that was the moment that Dustin decided to walk out and she let out a small scream before smoothing out her hair the best she could. This only seemed to make Steve laugh louder and Y/N glared playfully at the boy before she quickly got out of the car to go and meet Dustin.
Steve sat there for a moment with a smile on his face before finally letting himself watch Y/N as she walked over to Dustin who had paused in his front yard, his eyes locked on the girl who was walking towards him as a look of shock crossed his face.
Steve couldn't help but smile as he watched the girl, his heart swelling with pride for the person who was his sister even if not by blood. And when she began to wall back to the car with her hand intertwined with Dustin, her eyes locked with his and she gave him a small smile.
It was in that moment that the two both realized just how blessed they were to have each other. They really were like family. They were the brother and sister that the other never had.
Steve and Y/N may not have the best parents in the world, but with each other as family, they couldn't have been luckier.

give me one last kiss while we’re far too young to die
tw // blood, guns, mafia dynamics, character injury
mafia au race & romeo for @heytheywascoronas ! happy birthday luce, i hope you have an amazing day ♡
read it here on ao3!
Suddenly, he’s awake.
There’s a burn in his lungs, the type you get from being deprived of oxygen just a little too long. Romeo gasps for air, one hand clutching at his chest and the other balled into a tight fist by his side. He can still taste gunpowder. Blunt fingernails dig into his bloodied palm. It’s almost grounding. Not enough to offset the pain, however.
His eyes take a few moments to refocus. Above him, a few clouds crawl lazily across a cornflower blue sky. It’s too bright. Romeo squints. Everything seemed a little hazy round the edges, not quite real. That makes his head hurt.
A tacky red liquid coats his hands, and it doesn’t take a genius to figure out what that is. The tip of his tongue swipes over his swollen bottom lip. Drying blood cakes the sensitive flesh, broken and sore. There’s a metallic taste that fills his mouth. Floods his senses for just a moment. His nose throbs.
At least he’s alive, Romeo thinks to himself. That’s definitely a positive.
“Romeo,” a feeble voice calls. It should’ve been a question, but the inflection to suggest that much is completely absent. It’s a voice brimming with the pain Romeo feels lancing through his own body.
“Tha’s me,” he manages, turning his head in the direction of the voice. Fuck, he sounds rough. He’s barely said a sentence, and already he can feel the way vocalising makes his throat burn. His cheek scratches against the concrete, but the pain barely registers. He’s got bigger issues right now. “You good, Tony?”
The boy in question, Tony, simply groans again. No, he’s not good. Romeo saw him go down. The horrible sound of a bullet pinging off the wall, and Tony dodges narrowly, and then there’s someone kicking him in the stomach. A wave of nausea hits Romeo. He’s powerless. Tony’s arm is yanked sharply backwards, and Romeo hears the sickening crack. That’s a sound he won’t forget.
Now he lays a few feet away from Romeo, curled in on himself. Just slightly out of reach. There’s an almost ghostly pallor to his skin. The sole source of his bleeding seems to be a deep gash high up on his cheekbone. The blood caking his hair and clothing isn’t his own. A dark bruise forming above his left eyebrow. Shoulder twisted at an unnatural angle.
It takes Romeo a several minutes to sit up properly. Well, maybe it’s minutes. His sense of time is a little warped right now. However long it takes to let the nausea die down enough to allow movement. Aching muscles scream in protest as he pushes himself up, elbows shoved beneath him to support his bodyweight. Spits out a mixture of blood and saliva, unable to get rid of that smoky taste that makes his teeth hurt, makes his gums burn. The ache in his chest returns promptly, earning a hiss of pain from Romeo.
“We fucked up, didn’t we?”
It’s not a question, but he asks it like one anyway. Maybe Tony will entertain him. Months of begging and pleading and bargaining can’t end like this. Romeo doesn’t make mistakes, not anymore. Neither does Tony. Neither does Jack.
“Shut your stupid mouth,” Tony snaps, although the usual venomous sting in his tone is missing. It’s actually a little weak. Probably too much effort right now.
They’re not friends, not by any stretch of the imagination. Partners, in a business sense exclusively. He likes to think they’re getting somewhere. Volatility is Tony’s middle name, however, and that makes it rather difficult to gauge where he stands. Romeo isn’t sure how Tony defines the word ‘friendship’, anyway.
Romeo rolls his eyes anyway, face screwing up when he’s reminded of the pain in his chest. Broken ribs, easily. When he pulls his shirt up to inspect the damage, there’s black and blue blooming across his flesh already. Ouch.
Vaguely, there’s the memory of taking a crowbar to the chest. Feels distant, almost like he watched it happen to somebody else. It’s a little jarring to consider this happened to him. Suddenly the bruises don’t feel all that strange. A few broken ribs is a small price to pay.
“You want some help?” he asked, letting the thin fabric drop back down.
Tony shakes his head defiantly, of course he does. He’ll die before he accepts Romeo’s assistance.
So Romeo doesn’t make it optional. He takes a few deep breaths and forces himself up, teeth gritting. The taste of blood is stronger now, and it’s almost dizzying. He stumbles, grasps for something to keep him upright, leans against the wall heavily. The pain is nauseating. Just that small movement has a thin sheen of sweat covering his forehead, mixing with the blood and sticking to his skin uncomfortably.
“Idiota,” he hisses, glaring sharply at Tony. The blond is motionless, hair matted with blood and sweat and dirt. “You shoulda kept your mouth shut.”
“Oh, this is my problem now?” Tony shoots back, eyes narrowing. There’s an edge of ice in his voice, a familiar one. Romeo knows that tone all too well.
Any other time, he wouldn’t push it. Arguing with Tony is pointless and stupid and gets neither of them anywhere, but there’s an anger flaring up in Romeo’s chest that’s more than a little difficult to force back down.
“If you let me do my job, we’d be outta here, and not bleeding to death in the fucking dirt.” Romeo seethes. “I was doing the talking, Tony. This shit is basic.”
“Badly,” the blond retorts. “You needed me to cover because you couldn’t get your fuckin’ words out properly.”
“I was doing just fine.”
Tony doesn’t bother responding, grunting unintelligibly instead.
Does he really blame Tony? No. The guilt is overwhelming, actually, because Romeo knows it’s on him. He shouldn’t push it further.
“This is why Jack doesn’t fucking trust you.”
Tony’s expression darkens immediately, eyes flashing dangerously. Romeo regrets it already.
“Jack trusts me a whole lot more than you. Because he knows you might just run off the second he lets you out.”
Romeo opens his mouth, ready to shoot off some spiteful retort, but he catches himself. He doesn’t hate Tony anymore. They’re not rivals, they’re not friends, but they’re somewhere between those two points.
He relents, kneeling down beside Tony. It’s such a simple movement, and yet every contraction of his muscles is fucking agony. He bites down on the inside of his cheek. Hard. The taste of blood is there again, but for a completely different reason now. Sharp pieces of gravel dig into his knees.
“Just let me help you,” he requests. Tony grunts, but he doesn’t bother trying to fight it this time.
“I don’t need your help,” he spits. At this point, that suggestion is almost laughable. If Romeo liked him any less, he’d maybe laugh.
“I think you’ll find you do,” Romeo defends easily, placing one hand on Tony’s shoulder. It’s a feather-light touch, barely there, but it’s a reminder. Tony can work out what that means for himself.
He scowls at Romeo, eyes dark. Juxtaposes their brightness. They’d be so pretty if he smiled more often, although Romeo never voices those thoughts. Tony would murder him the moment he opened his mouth. Such angelic features, constantly contorted with rage and irritation. Jarring.
Tony doesn’t verbally respond again, although he hisses in pain when he slowly tries to stretch out his aching limbs. Honestly, the silence is nice. Unusual.
There’s the silent acknowledgment between them that, had this happened months prior, Tony would be left for dead. Romeo would leave without a second glance. Tony holds this flawed ideology of needing help equalling weakness, and Romeo could never quite fathom why.
But now he feels responsibility. Guilt tugs at him, sour. It weighs heavy on his shoulders. The anger dies away, still smouldering somewhere deep within him, but now it’s easy to ignore. He watches the way blood trickle down the side of Tony’s face with an almost sick fascination. It’s mesmerising, the way it soaks into the fine creases and stains his skin crimson.
Romeo is slow to accept his own faults. Doesn’t like to be the one at fault. It’s a vice he's always known about, but his ego has a tendency to get in the way of any real self-improvement there. He has many virtues, anyway, and he’ll say it with that trademark bright smile. But no, it’s not really Tony’s fault. If he’s completely truthful, their failure is more indicative of their joint weaknesses. Romeo is too quick to react, pushes too hard for little gain. Tony is abrasive and snappy, immediately rubbing people up the wrong way. It’s really no wonder why Jack didn’t want them out in the field just yet.
“Jack’s gonna kill us,” Tony murmurs. Speak of the devil. He sounds agitated, maybe. Difficult to tell when he’s speaking through gritted teeth, biting down hard in an attempt to suppress his groans of pain. “He’s gonna fuckin’ murder me.”
Romeo shakes his head, and maybe there’s just a little hint of introspectiveness there. “It’s not just your fault, Tony, I’m sorry. I fucked up, y’know?”
Of course, Tony argues back. His voice reminds Romeo of glass crunching beneath his feet. Scratchy. “You’re the one who said it. I fucked up. Jack wanted me to prove myself. All this did was prove I couldn’t do it.”
“Yeah, well, can’t do much about that now,” Romeo concludes. He’s too tired to fight.
Acknowledging failure makes Romeo’s skin crawl, the sudden urge to scratch becoming almost overwhelming. Mistakes like this are for other people. Rookies. It’s been a long time since he was last considered a rookie.
He sets about his work in silence. The rush of blood in his ears serves as a nice way to tune out his thoughts. White noise. His stomach roils as he moves, nausea threatening to render him useless for a little while longer. Tony lays limp beneath his fingertips, letting Romeo do what he must. There’s still a scowl twisting his face up. The fight died from his eyes moments before.
Fortunately, nothing looks too bad. The shoulder is nasty. It’s not career-ending. Now Romeo’s good, but he’s not that good. Wouldn’t dare to try resetting that on his own. It’s a job for someone else, someone a lot more qualified. That gash on Tony’s cheek is slowly scabbing over. Romeo winces, secondhand pain. Someone is gonna rip that back open to clean it later. Everything else seems like superficial damage.
“Can you sit up?” he asks, taking one of Tony’s hands in his own. It’s calloused and sticky with blood. The warmth is oddly familiar. Again, Tony doesn’t dignify that with anything more than a grunt. Shoves his good arm back, wincing at the jolt in his bad one. Uses his elbows to gain a little leverage. It’s not quite sitting up, but it’s a start.
Romeo chews at his lip. By now the taste of copper in his mouth is practically second nature. He’s guilty. It gnaws at his stomach and he hates the way it burns. “Better than nothing,” he muses quietly, rocking back to rest his weight on his haunches. Tony pulls his hand away. The muscles in Romeo’s legs throb.
“You got any smart ideas to get us outta here?” Tony snarks, and Romeo doesn’t miss the bite in his voice. Clearly, he’s feeling a little better already. It’s not got that malicious ring to it, though. Not like usual. He could put money on Tony being more pissed at himself than Romeo.
“Pick-up point isn’t far away,” he muses, using his hand to shield his eyes from the bright sun overhead. “If you can walk that far, we—“
“I can.”
Tony doesn’t wait for Romeo to argue, and he doesn’t ask for help. Instead, he uses his good arm to push him up, just enough to sit. Even then, he’s panting, slightly breathless. Romeo doesn’t miss the way he winces.
“Let me carry you,” Romeo suggests.
The blond’s face twists into an ugly scowl. “No.”
He sighs, lips pressing into a tight line. “So you gonna walk? ‘Cause it’s not gonna be the shortest walk.”
Tony’s answer isn’t so immediate this time. He’s thinking about it, considering his options. Romeo can tell by the way his eyes cloud with an uncharacteristic thoughtfulness. Tony always tends to shoot first, ask questions later.
Finally, he answers. “Fine. But I swear to God, if you tell anyone about this,” Tony snarls, weakly jabbing a finger at Romeo’s chest. “I swear I’ll kill you myself.”
Romeo just shrugs. They both know the only person he talks to is Tony. He has nobody to tell, even if he wanted to. Telling people would only bring about questions, and Romeo feels far too guilty to answer those. Or think about them. Even something as simple as reporting to Jack would be a struggle.
Silently, he shifts, one arm scooping underneath Tony’s legs and the other supporting his back. Avoids his bad shoulder. They both know Romeo isn’t strong enough to manage this, but at least he can walk. He stumbles to his feet, sways a little, fingernails digging into Tony’s flesh. Not enough to hurt, but more than enough to feel.
“Careful,” Tony mutters. It’s the most concern Romeo’s ever heard in his voice. Almost unsettling.
He manages to straighten up, though, remaining still for just long enough to catch his balance. Tony is long and lanky, but he’s also light. The height difference makes it a little awkward, but Romeo’s too determined and too proud to forfeit now. Can’t. He’s made enough mistakes to get them both to this point.
“I’m good,” he assures, adjusting his grip on Tony’s lithe body. For just a second, their eyes meet, and Romeo swears he’ll never see a prettier shade of blue than the colour of Tony’s eyes. Blond curls frame his face, tangled and stained with blood. That trademark scowl has melted away, and it’s one of the rare occasions where Romeo sees his face completely relaxed. He looks up at Romeo with something akin to childlike innocence.
If he were somebody else, and they were in a different time, Romeo might call him beautiful.
He pushes that thought down. Locks it away for another time, preferably when he’s alone, not staring into Tony’s crystalline eyes. Starts walking, instead, because pain is a surefire way to distract him from his own internal monologue.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispers. If Tony wasn’t listening closely, he’d miss it. Romeo’s eyes are fixed firmly on the horizon. Barely audible above the incessant background noise of cars and people and city life. Even on the outskirts, it’s noisy.
“Shut up,” Tony mutters. “This ain’t your fault.”
For Tony to admit fault so easily is wrong. Leaves a strange taste in Romeo’s mouth, and it’s not the taste of blood.
“Maybe if I did my job properly, we wouldn’t be like this, y’know?” Romeo persists, although there’s a lightness to his tone. Jovial, maybe. Doesn’t want to get too serious, not when he’s holding Tony’s broken body in his arms and trying to ignore the way his knees threaten to buckle with every step.
“I said shut up,” Tony warns. There’s a brief flash of irritation in his eyes, but it’s gone before Romeo truly registers it. “I jumped down your fuckin’ throat. Didn’t give you enough chance.”
“And I could’ve reacted better,” is Romeo’s immediate response. “Seriously, Tony, this isn’t your damn fault. An’ when we report to Jack, I swear if you don’t keep your mouth shut—“
Tony scoffs. “Why? So Jack can refuse you fieldwork for the next three years? Because he will.”
“I don’t really care,” Romeo lies.
Being refused fieldwork is getting off lightly. Jack doesn’t make mistakes.
“Yeah, you do.” Tony informs. “‘Cause you’re the one who spent fuckin’ months trying to get us this job, an’ then I went and fucked it up.”
Romeo lets out a small sigh through his nose. “It’s not even that bad.”
“You gonna tell Jack that? ‘It’s not even that bad, Tony just fucked up everything you asked’?” he snarls. “That’ll go down well. I’m sure he’ll love that.”
“Why the fuck do you want me to blame you so bad?” Romeo asks. The irritation melts away, replaced with nothing but a genuine curiosity. “You’re his favourite. You could say anything, an’ he’d probably believe it.”
Tony huffs, turns his face away. He’s staring at nothing.
“Because it’s weird when you get hurt. When Jack screams at you, I don’t…” he trails off, shaking his head. “Forget it.”
“To—“
“I said forget it.”
And like that, Romeo drops it. Has to, because Tony has made it pretty damn clear he’s not talking about this anymore.
“Just let me take the fall for this one, okay?” Tony asks, and now his voice is softer. There’s a finely veiled edge of authority, and Romeo has to laugh. Tony barely outranks him, and he’s only ever seen them as equal in that regard.
“No,” Romeo murmurs. Soft, but not without the urgency of a demand. “This ain’t your battle, Tony...”
“I was here, wasn’t I?” he scowls. “I’ll do what I fuckin’ please.”
“What if we don’t blame anyone, and let Jack decide who’s guilty?”
Because they both know it’ll be Romeo. Jack thinks highly of Tony, always has. He’s the favourite. Romeo doesn’t have to take the fall to be blamed, and he came to terms with that a while ago.
“What if he kicks you out?” Tony asks, voice real quiet. Finally betrays the terror running through his head. It’s a much more realistic expectation.
“Then I pack my shit and go,” Romeo answers. There’s a rueful smile on his face. The only way he’ll be leaving is with a bullet through his brain. Ditched in an unmarked grave somewhere. No need to do any packing. “Wasn’t cut out for a place like this, clearly.”
“You can’t—“ he begins, but those words seem to catch in his throat. Can’t say what he wants to. Tony never loses his words like that.
“That’s up to Jack. His call.”
“You can’t just back down like that, asshole! What happened to not goin’ down without a fuckin’ fight?” Tony demands. He’s not covering the upset in his voice well.
“Jack would just have me killed, Tony.”
Those words are heavy. They hang in the air unpleasantly. Romeo isn’t wrong, and he’s pretty sure that’s what makes that sentence so disquieting.
“I wouldn’t let him,” Tony mutters defiantly. It’s a pathetic suggestion, because Tony doesn’t control Jack, nobody does, and even his status as favourite wouldn’t hold much weight there.
Romeo sighs, holds Tony a little tighter.
“No point getting worked up ‘bout what he might say,” Romeo points out. They’re close now, he can see the getaway vehicle across the street. The outskirts of town are quiet. The gun on Romeo’s hip has most people looking the opposite way anyway, golden metal glinting in the light.
Tony meets his eyes again, and there’s an undeniable anxiety there. There’s tension in his jaw. “Let me take the fall,” he demands.
“I can’t do that, Tony,” he sighs.
“Please.”
“No. Let’s not argue, Tony, yeah?”
Tony is quiet. There’s another voice now, and suddenly the weight of another person is lifted from Romeo’s arms. He blinks. A dark-haired woman is talking, commenting on their injuries, asking questions. He can’t focus for long enough to answer. An overwhelming exhaustion hits him, and he slides into the backseat without a fight. Tony is beside him a few moments later. There’s that familiar hum of an engine beneath him, and Romeo swears he could pass out here and now.
Tony doesn’t speak again until they’re in the back of the car, fingertips brushing against each others’. He’s still tense, particularly in the face, although he can’t hold much tension in his bad shoulder. Romeo is less so, because he’s already come to terms with what could happen. He’ll do what it takes to keep Tony out of harm’s way. That kid’s been through enough.
“Don’t go,” Tony whispers. Only Romeo could possibly have picked that up. Their driver doesn’t even flinch.
“I’m not goin’ anywhere,” Romeo assures. He’s lying, and they both know it, but it’s a bittersweet reassurance.
His eyes flicker to the outside, and suddenly Romeo isn’t Romeo anymore. He has a freedom he never had, snatched away from him as a child, crushed by the crippling need for money. It’s another time, another world, and it’s one his fingertips brush over occasionally. The way his brush against the rough skin of Tony’s hands. Just out of reach. Something he can never have.
Something he will never have.
