I've seen so many lesbians talk about shipping only m/m for XYZ reasons, most lesbians i am pals with via fandom are slashers as well... meanwhile I feel like a rare shiny pokemon: a lesbian who almost only ships het. I need a woman to focus on in any case, unless both guys give me the Zing and i find both of them interesting to look at, slash is extremely uninteresting to me. sadly most femslash pairings are conventionally fem4conventionally fem (never even hyperfem!!! that would be hot again!!!!!), what's popular never delivers on the toxic tropes i like, and as a femme whose rl taste is "the butcher, the better!" (exception previously mentioned nonwithstanding) that's just not my preferred flavor either. :(
so het it is - not even het with the guy genderswapped to be a gal, just garden variety gal x guy, finer nuances of their sexuality or gender rep aside. while irl men irritate me as soon as they show romantic interest in me and don't back off at my obvious disinterest, i can and will swoon over my fictional male crushes in the same way how gay men would swoon over Lady Gaga.
so yeah, This lady blorbo i obsess over and created a whole backstory for if canon neglected her should be with This guy blorbo love interest i find hot because she deserves nice things and an interesting story and I deserve to read about or write it and feel tingly and giddy! :D

IMO, after growing up in the early 2000s, the fake nonchalance doesn't feel new. People in general were performatively cruel and intolerant. There was a sense of pride in being a bit of a bully because you weren't "PC." I think the initial social media boom had a lot of people feeling more optimistic and earnest because we truly believed it would help us connect w/ each other and change things for the better. I know I did.
I look back on it now as a nice break from the usual. The internet has decayed to the point that it literally does the opposite for us. Plus it's inseparable from irl social behavior for now, so that's going to be dragged down with it. People are either checked out or forcing themselves to act that way to avoid becoming the lolcow of the week.
The way I see some early 20 somethings act honestly reminds me of the super disillusioned and reactionary gen-xers I grew up around. They were all involved in some kind of subculture that brought them hope, and when things died down they became just like this over time. Younger people just seem to be speedrunning it.
i really like hearing perspectives on this from ppl who were like fully coherent before social media really boomed lmfao - i do hear ya as well like i remember for yrs feeling very optimistic abt social media and the internet in general. when i was like 9 facebook really exploded and for yrs i thought it was just like. the coolest thing ever. even when insta, youtube twitter and tumblr took off i didn't forsee the downsides to be this extreme. prob bc i was a naive kid/teenager but i really didn't think it would morph into whatever we've got now. maybe it's not the performativity or the toxicity that's new, it's just that there's now various platforms that amplify and encourage it. i find ur comparison with gen exers / gen z and the movements / subcultures that at first empowered them and then fell off very interesting - never thought about it that way before but it definitely rings true and makes me sad!! i wish things had stayed somewhat simple and non commercialised online!! but again, maybe that just speaks to my naivete

You have helped me before to understand Sakura better thanks 🙏.
1_ can you tell me how Sakura get money to buy some stuff like the plushie for kiryu?

2_ The way he was impressed by the beach 😭😭😭.... this child's isolation is heartbreaking. Do you have theories about his past?
HAHA, well unfortunately for the first one the only thing I could guess is maybe it ties into how he can pay for the rundown apartment he's living in. Clearly Sakura has some sort of source on income, but so far we can only theorize about what that is. Either he has his bio family sending him enough cash to keep him at this town by himself so he doesn't cause trouble for them wherever it is they live, or he's getting funds from some child services organization would be my best guess.
Which is kind of the same towards what my theories are for his past.
I can only go off of what pieces we've seen so far. I personally think Sakura's biological parents are dead, as both theories I have involve him being an orphan, but it is technically possible that his bio-parents were amongst the people in his past that were just really shitty to him.
Having watched the first season of the anime first, I had believed that Sakura's past was probably that he was an orphan and has been kind of passed between foster families his whole life, and has always kind of had to deal with the same negative reactions and treatment from all these different people his whole life. But, going through the manga now I think the interesting thing to note about the few panels where we see actual flashbacks from Sakura's past so far is that it is the same three people shown.
Now of course, this could just mean that those people were his foster family (or technically it could also be his immediate biological family but given the trends and themes in Wind Breaker I think that's less likely), or the theory I personally feels like the best fit- I think those people are a part of Sakura's extended family. Though it could just be the words the author happened to choose or translation, Sakura says he's lived this was for a 'very long time' - but not since he was born. There was likely something that happened to him when he was young that then he was brought to be looked after by his aunt and uncle. Up until coming to Makochi he probably lived out in that shed, not even invited in to share meals with those three people. Whether they are extended family or his foster family, we've already seen how Sakura's had to live feeling completely isolated and denied any positive interaction or connection with people. It was abuse. And neglect/abuse (especially assuming this was *years* of Sakura's life) will have such a deep effect on a person, and it's extremely hard to move on or heal from.

white guilt is a poison for a lot of reasons but as a writer it's so frustrating to see how other white writers sabotage themselves. they'll be so terrified of ever writing a character of color go through something bad that they'll strip them of any compelling backstories or situations that would prompt interesting character development. obviously steer clear of straight up torture porn in stories about character of color, especially where no white character goes through an extreme tribulation. but for fuck's sake. most readers connect with characters through their vulnerability. denying characters of color vulnerability or circumstances that we're meant to feel a connection to and compassion for... that's shitty writing. and entirely taking away conflict also removes their ability to develop and grow as characters.
for fanfiction, working with legacy characters of color... you should nearly always try to honor their backstory and how it affects them. there are some exceptions. but if theyve been through 'too much', even if it's over the top or you suspect the writers may not have treated it respectfully, the better thing is for YOU get to do the work the writers didn't. you get to humanize someone who wasn't treated well by the narrative. if you absolutely MUST tweak a backstory, use common sense employ some racial literacy. do not strip a character of all the interesting or compelling details if it undercuts the emotional weight of this character. and before you remove a backstory or even fundamentally change it, think about whether or not you can humanize this instead.
...
that was a rant, but this was mainly triggered by tom taylor's change of starfire's backstory. i get that she had a lot of family baggage, and it would probably make things 'simpler' for readers to take out all of the family drama and tamaranean politics. but it was a bad move. for starfire fans, her family's betrayals and tamaranean politics are interesting and compelling! just taking them out and making her an 'orphan' instead -- not to mention the disrespect of just comparing her to dick, like her conception of her own history should even remotely be associated with her ex-boyfriend, jesus fucking christ. but tom taylor didn't even change the real, exorbitant over-the-top trauma, which is the citadel enslavement or sexual assault or the psions' experiments and torture. instead he just... took away the complexity of starfire's own family playing a role, and her being singled out.
i understand the impulse to change some of her backstory. but no matter what you do, unless you take away almost everything that made her complicated and compelling -- WHICH, PLEASE DO NOT! WE DO NOT WANT HER BLANDWASHED FURTHER -- her history is tangled up in the ways that she was hurt... because it's also tangled up in all the ways she OVERCAME. im sure there are ways to respectfully alter some of the more egregious pain and things that feel like they were written with ulterior torture-porn motives or are disrespectful. but her story is of her learning to stand up for herself and anyone enslaved by oppressors. her story is ALSO about learning how to love and trust again, and that the people who love her will protect her and stand up for her when her own strength lapses. her story is about learning to find joy again after she was made into a sacrificial lamb. to close readers, this can be a beautiful story. she is one of the most humanized portrayals of a woman who was trafficked as a child, and for those of us that read closely and care, we don't want those elements totally taken away, we just want them written respectfully, with her humanity never forgotten. so we didn't want the complicated role her family played taken away, either. her family's betrayal made her story more personal and more complicated. and later, when kory is still deferring to a family that hurt her, even when they are already hurting her again... it's tragic, but interesting, and compelling, and it allows her to be humanized and sympathetic. it should tug on your heart because you know she deserves better. which means having her friends all furious with kory's family for what they did, having there be back and forth about her right to defend her family but our understanding (and her friends' understanding) that she deserves better regardless of what she's willing to do for her people -- it can be good writing! if you just kill of her family though, and take away all the blame, all the betrayal, then you take away so much of the depth and intrigue from her backstory and the karras arc and even her amnesia arc and everything that followed with new tamaran and ph'yzzon and the sun-eaters.
this has turned into a starfire ramble as always but... it just really irks me, the way he casually disintegrated so much of kory's depth with a handful of panels. as though she didn't have one of the most thorough and interesting backstories of the new teen titans, with the most consistent arcs and conflicts about freedom, trauma, unexamined rightful resentment over betrayal, and learning to find joy again.
for fandom, i find it even more frustrating. i know that not everyone knows kory's backstory inside and out. even i find out new things that i missed when rereading ntt or other titans runs, or wading back into the dreaded new52 run (...which i still maintain can be re-examined and fixed without that much effort. kory's part, at least. jason's part of rhato was godawful slop and roy was almost as bad). but i think the most frustrating part of being a kory fan in the dc fandom is the way that she's just overlooked and made into a support.
she'll nebulously be there as a voice to advocate for freedom. or she's a perfect girlfriend and emotional comfort to her boyfriend and friends. but so few fics really humanize her or give her the appropriate depth. i would kill for more fics where it's even alluded to, that she's overcome so much. but when we ask fandom why they don't want to even indirectly reference these things, the answer from a lot of white fans is what i mentioned at the very start. they're afraid of doing it wrong; they're afraid of putting a woman, let alone a woman of color, into a bad situation. but playing pretend, like they're meant to be nothing but smiling exceptional beings who burst from the ground fully formed without any backstory or complicated past... removing anything icky makes for shallow characters. and kory is anything but shallow.
i guess what im saying is, when working with legacy characters, don't just take away traumatic elements you find distasteful. to me, it's better to find a way to humanize the character through it instead.
...
(to be clear this is about backstories and trauma and things done to them, NOT about character choices. i'm advocating to reasonably keep most elements but always humanize them and treat trauma respectfully. we need a separate conversation entirely for whether or not to entirely remove a characters's out-of-character randomly-evil actions. this is also a completely separate conversation to the discussion we should have on dc's habit of writing women of color as sexual temptresses and sexual assailants. for those, i don't care if this is unpopular but i'd advocate for erasing those moments and characterizations from the canon and fanon entirely. not because men are never sexually assaulted, but partially because 1) in fanon these get an unreasonable amount of attention, as well as endless vitriol to the assailants, compared to women who've been assaulted in the same continuities. this echoes the idea that it's worse when men get raped than when women get raped, which is misogyny. and 2), fanon has gotten very comfortable with weaponizing racist stereotypes and racialized violence when writing reaction-fic to talia, miriam, catalina, nyssa, tana, and others, when a white boy or white-passing boy is their canon victim. i would argue that removing these stories from the continuity is generally the better choice in this case. fanfiction will always exist and no one is saying no one is allowed write those stories if that's really what they want to focus on. but i think in general, most of them can be axed and i wouldn't lose sleep over them in the way i lose sleep over other traumas being removed. when women of color are being thrown to the wolves and endlessly the aggressors... let alone being made aggressors to situations they're usually the victims irl...? it's usually a sign that something has gone wrong in your writing.)
#ill delete this if this is actually a bad take#im sure there are better ways to explain this but i am coming up short#there's just so much lazy writing for kory both in fandom and canon

i haven’t been able to sleep all night and it’s almost 7 AM here, so pls pls forgive me if i word this poorly, BUT: how do you feel about ‘sir’ as a title, specifically in the context of that being the default title for knights? if u have different feelings on ‘sir’ by itself vs ‘sir knight’ im extremely interested to hear it, and if u don’t like either one, then what title(s) would my fav butch sharkgirl knight prefer instead? -Val
I feel the same way about "sir" as a title as I do with "handsome" as a compliment: It would have to come from someone I trust isn't saying it to stealth misgender me.
I'd let you call me that, but I'd be real cautious posting things where someone calls me sir, cuz I don't want just anyone thinking it's okay.

I am extremely excited to add onto this because I have spent SO MUCH TIME analyzing their abilities based on their games. I’m probably going to make my own at some point, but for now I’ll add onto this one.
Four absolutely has a fire rod. He also has mole mitts. If you’re counting a shovel, I think those should also count, since they are also claws. Does slingshot count on the same level as the boomerang? Because he has that, too. He also has a sword beam with full hearts. You mentioned the Great Spin Attack and I absolutely have to emphasize how overpowered his version is. Everyone else either gets dizzy, uses magic, or both to do this kind of “hurricane” attack where they spin around and around. In Minish Cap, there is no magic, no dizziness, and no cool down. He can spam this attack like crazy. So OP. I would also like to mention that the level 2 hammer in FSA has such a huge shockwave that the ground ripples. Another interesting thing to note is that the dark “Vio” in the Palace of the Four Swords can shoot fireballs from his sword. About the horse thing, I’m pretty sure the horse is like having invincibility in Sonic or Mario. You just run over stuff. I’d have to double check, but that’s how I remember it. I should also point out that his power enhancing items let him push huge bookshelves even when Minish-sized or pull trees out of the ground in FSA.
Hyrule: Idk if anyone but me cares about the numbers, but at the end of Zelda 2, he can have a maximum of 128 magic points. The spells cost as follows: Shield 16, Jump 8, Life 50, Fairy, 40, Fire 16, Reflect 16, Spell 16, Thunder 64. He can barely use thunder twice before needing a magic recharge. I am also pretty sure he’s using the fire spell in that scene from the comic. He absolutely is a scrappy fighter. He knows how to use the terrain to his advantage.
Legend is a BIG one, yeah. To say more about his spin attack: he can jump and do a spin attack at the same time. Let me say that again. He can jump and do a spin attack at the same time. He’s graceful and beautiful. He needs a roc’s feather or cape to do this, of course. He actually has less moves available to him than Four. He only has the spin attack, as previously discussed, the dash attack using the Pegasus boots, a sword beam, and the hurricane spin. His hurricane spin drains magic quickly AND makes him dizzy. He is quite mobile with it though. Very fast. He also has the Great Spin (not great spin attack) which gives his regular spin attack enormous range. Another cool thing about his fighting style is that, while other games (particularly the 3D ones) rely heavily on the shield to block attacks, Legend parries with his sword if he has a spin charged. If he has a spin charged, he hurts enemies just by walking into them, without actually spinning, though this does less damage. If he does this to an enemy holding a sword, they will clash swords and neither will be damaged.
He can also duel wield in potentially interesting ways. Since he doesn’t need a shield in most circumstances, he can replace it with a fire/ice rod, a boomerang, a hookshot, one of his magic canes, etc. Also, two of his rings let him punch. The Expert’s ring lets his punch do as much damage as the Noble Sword. That’s the second best sword in the game you can only get from a trading sequence. It’s a punch more powerful than a sword beam. Imagine you watch a burly guy pick a fight with this scrawny little dude and the little guy drops his sword and shield and punches the guy across the street. (He has to have his item slots empty to punch.) Imagine that. It’s totally going into my story at some point. I know you’re discounting boomerangs, which is a real shame because different boomerangs have different abilities. He has five of them, excluding Link’s Awakening. The Magical boomerang from ALttP can be controlled with his mind. (Not to be confused with the Magic Boomerang, which just a regular boomerang that flies farther.) The nice boomerang from ALBW can send out three boomerangs. If you start including Links Awakening items, (and looking at some of the items in his house in the comic, maybe you should,) you get into some of the most overpowered items in the series. That boomerang can one-shot the majority of enemies and stuns most everything else.
His super net from ALBW can technically beat the final boss. Let that sink in. And the super lantern, while difficult to use in this way, has some of the highest attack in the game. Again, this item can defeat the final boss. The long hook is an upgraded version of the switch hook (everyone keeps calling it the switch hook even after it’s the long hook). For those that don’t know, it swaps you with whatever you hit with it, both objects and enemies, which you can use to cross gaps. A good example of use in combat is if the enemy has a shielded face (I forgot what the enemy is called) you can switch with the shield and boom, you’re right in its unprotected face.
Oh! I think you forgot the magic cape! It makes him not just invisible, but invincible. He can walk right through spike traps and enemy attacks. Uses a lot of magic though. Besides the roc’s feather, he also has a roc’s cape. The mermaid suit might not seem combat useful, but while most Links struggle with fighting underwater, the mermaid suit lets him wield most of his items underwater. And he doesn’t need to come up for breath. He also has magnetic gloves. His hyper slingshot can shoot three mysterious seeds out of one (like three tornados, fire balls, etc.) As far as the red shield goes… Eh, he’s got a mirror shield, which is better.
He also has some fun things in Tri Force Heroes (Gust jar, water rod, and fire gloves) but Jojo says that game isn’t canon.
Wind. Gosh I love this kid’s adaptability. Previous heroes on this list have big limitations to how many items they can use in their item slots. Even capes and boots take up an item slot. This kid can handle three different items besides the sword and shield, which sometimes take up their own item slots in games instead of being always equipped. So he is very fast at using his items. Wind can also do a great spin attack/hurricane spin. It makes him dizzy and uses magic.
The Phantom Sword can’t currently slow time because it’s out of juice. I believe Jojo made this canon to her comic as well. I think there’s a page where he lets Time examine it and explains its ability.
This isn’t all of their items, but in line with OP’s intention, I left it at the ones that have combat potential. Although maybe I should add Wind’s iron boots, because they give him extra weight if he needs to pull something big towards him instead of being the one pulled by the hookshot.
I’ll probably add to the others here as well, but right now it’s after midnight, so that will have to wait. You’re doing a great job, OP!
Linked Universe Combat Guide (part 1)
Lmao I have been casually sitting on this for like two months now and since I'm procrastinating writing an essay, I've decided to post it.
Anyway, this came from my bajillion notes about the Chain's equipment so I could have fight scenes that involved more than "he swings his sword" x9. I also wanted to identify all the weird weapons the Links would have too bc I know they exist. And since adhd is the shark disorder and I need to do something bc I stop moving I die, I've made my notes coherent enough to inflict upon tumblr.
General Notes:
In terms of additional weapons/equipment, I’m not including the traditional bombs/bow + arrows/boomerangs bc basically everyone has a variant of these. All I'm doing is looking at the possible items collected on the quests and being like "yeah I could probably work out a way to kill monsters with that".
Also they all have one-handed sword and shield proficiency, so I'm not including that for each Link. However any other canonical or possible weapon proficiencies will be listed.
7 out of 9 Links are predominantly lefties. Generally, left-handed swordfighters are used to fighting right-handed swordfighters, but the same is not true vice versa, so they will have an advantage against most human enemies. -> any ambidextrous fighters in the group is largely a headcanon but go nuts w/ it.
Researched to the best of my ability (limited only by search terms and my own waning hyperfixation), but pls be aware I literally only played my first Zelda game ever in February 2024 so there’s a lot I don’t know and games I haven’t played. Both parts are open to peer review and active fact checking lmao
Half of this is canonical abilities and half is presumed abilities based off of said canon + other logical conclusions. I'm doing this from a lore-accurate sense, rather than a straight pull from the LU comics, simply bc that allows for a broader analysis of what they're technically all capable of. I've tried my best to keep my personal headcanons out of this either way.
This part covers Four, Hyrule, Legend and Wind, whose games I have not played, so my apologies if anything is missing or incorrect.
Updated 9 March 2025 with new info provided by @thejolteonmastertj who's a literal godsend for their info about Legend and Hyrule's combat skills🙏, and @respheal who added on and emphasised just how important Legend's spin attack is. I love you both <3
Four
I am actively making the argument that Four probably has knowledge about other fighting styles due to his trade as a black/weaponsmith. I do not have any specifics in mind bc I do not have the spoons for that deep-dive, but feel free to run with this however you want.
Sword techniques: -> spin attack + variants -> great spin attack (repeated spins) -> hurricane spin (same as above but temporarily induces dizziness) -> dash attack (requires pegasus boots) -> peril beam (only works when he's got 1 heart left) -> roll attack -> down thrust (requires Roc’s cape)
Obviously, Four's greatest strength is team combat w/ the Colours. By splitting, he's able to coordinate combat with easy tag-team attacks with a much lower risk of friendly fire compared to when fighting alongside members of the Chain. Group combat, quite obviously, is actually kinda hard bc it requires an increased amount of situational awareness that is often overridden by adrenaline. Thankfully, since Four and the Colours are literally the same person, this is mitigated by a LOT.
Seriously do not discount how Four's height is an advantage in combat. Being smaller/shorter means you have less body mass to speed up and slow down, so you have greater agility and speed. You're also harder to hit and better at close combat (short limbs take less time to block, attack, etc.)
Genuinely don't know if he's proficient in combat while on horseback. I've heard at least one of Four's games has an Epona, but I don't know if there's any mounted combat.
Additional Weapons/Equipment: -> power bracelets -> gust jar -> Cane of Pacci -> magnetic glove -> fire rod (I think? Fact check pls and thank) -> magic hammer -> pegasus boots -> Roc’s cape -> shovel (do not under any circumstances discount mundane weapons)
Hyrule
To start off, the most important thing to know about Hyrule is that he's a self-taught fighter.
No, seriously this is more important than you think but not for the reasons you may think. Self-taught fighters are scrappy as shit. Out of the entire Chain, Hyrule will be the first one to resort to fighting dirty. Have him clawing at people’s eyes, throwing dirt, and biting. When you grow up in a situation where survival is a thin line you don't want to cross, you’ll do anything to stay alive when you have to.
Spells: -> Shield: reduces damage by half -> Jump: self-explanatory -> Life: recovers health -> Fairy: shapeshifts into a fairy -> Fire: shoots fireballs from the end of his sword. (an aside, but this scene from the comic may be a variant of Fire? Fact check again lmao) -> Reflect: reflects magic attacks and strengthens his shield to temporarily block some physical attacks and most magical attacks -> Spell: can turn most enemies into Bots -> Thunder: summons lightning
Hyrule actually gained the ability to use magic in his second quest, so while he's probably well adapted to using it now and may default to using it when backed into a corner, he's still a capable swordsman without it. -> Update: while the spells I listed above came about in Hyrule's second quest, thejolteonmastertj points out that Hyrule is straight up slinging sword beams with the random sword he gets given at the start of his first adventure, and that it's an important technique for the game.
He can canonically use Jump to perform a down thrust (like Four's) and a jump thrust (think Mario hitting bricks lmao),but there are so many ways to utilise this spell. Someone should teach Hyrule the Helm Splitter.
Additional Weapons/Equipment: -> power bracelets -> hammer -> this will sound stupid but ladder (again, never underestimate weird and mundane weapons.) -> magic rod (w/ accompanying fire upgrade) -> magic recorder (used in-game for fast travel but thejolteonmastertj also says it summons a tornado and if you can't find a way to use that in combat, I'm going to eat my hat)
Legend
Legend gave me so much trouble, solely bc sir has too many games. Jesus Christ man.
I am once again happily arguing that due to Legend’s sheer experience, he probably has other weapon proficiencies outside of a one-handed sword + shield combo, but that’s entirely up to personal headcanons
A lot of the combat I could find is similar to Four's, in terms of sword techniques, so see above.
Once again for the class lmao, Legend has the most questing experience. While his section may seem small bc I don't want to rehash stuff I've already said, it's entirely on-brand for him to have tweaked a lot of this. Headcanons abound.
Updating the above two points: again provided by thejolteonmastertj, Legend's officially getting smacked with another label, and this is "Most OP Spin Attack". This has been pointed out to be a core aspect of combat for ALTTP (Legend's first adventure). directly quoting their reblog bc I can't summarise it any better than it's already been said: -> "Legend’s charged spin attack as reactive crowd control is foundational & central to his entire battle style. It’s extremely difficult to land a hit otherwise! You gotta either run, button mash to parry with ur back against a wall till something hits… … or you play it smart, watch everything in the room & plan your charged spins accordingly. Legend would be particularly adept at being outnumbered in an enclosed space. He can also throw pots, even shrubbery if he so desires, but well-timed spin-attacks are what truly carries him through his first few dungeons."
respheal also points out that some of Legend's enemies can only be damaged by the spin attack, making it a cruical technique that he's more than likely put time into developing more than the others may have.
Can't believe I didn't mention Legend's own tactical prowess smh
Additional Weapons/Equipment (Warning: brace yourself): -> literally the entire contents of his ring box. I'm not listing them. I don't even know what's in it, nor do I want to at this point. A link to the Everything in his ring box can be found here -> power bracelets/power glove/titan’s mitt -> hammer(s) -> pegasus boots -> Cane of Byrna -> Cane of Somaria -> hookshots -> long hook -> seed shooter (+ ember seeds, scent seeds, mystery seeds, gale seeds, & pegasus seeds) -> fire rod -> ice rod -> Rod of Seasons -> tornado rod -> sand rod -> Bombos medallion -> Ether Medallion -> Quake medallion -> magic powder -> shovel -> super net -> alternative tunics (attack or defensive enhancements) -> red shield (fire defence) -> Roc’s feather
Wind
Arguably has the best balance and proprioception of the group, which is extremely useful in many situations.
Once again, do not be afraid to use Wind’s height to his advantage. He has a slight detriment bc he’s still getting taller and going through puberty does screw up your proprioception, but I think if you’re using a sword that much, both against enemies and in sparring matches, he's probably still got a decent sense of his own balance and body.
I genuinely don’t know how the Phantom Sword works, sorry. I know it has some potential to slow time, but I’m not entirely sure about the mechanics behind that, nor if it’s still capable of such magic.
Wind’s Parry Attack: Hmm this thing. It’s interesting. Note: no actual parrying with a shield is needed, which means it's kinda like BOTW's perfect dodge mechanic. -> Wind’s parry attack is like the Helm Splitter and Back Slice combined into one. If the attack is vertical, he does a Back Slice-esque attack. If the attack is horizontal, it’s a Helm Splitter. -> Additionally he has an ending blow like Twilight and Sky, which has a specific trigger.
Additional Weapons/Equipment: -> power bracelets -> deku leaf -> skull hammer -> grappling hook (!!!!! any rope dart combat video would make this brutal) -> shovel -> hookshot -> Wind’s weird magic armour spell -> Hyoi pears if you feel like world-building
Part 2: Sky, Time, Twi, Wars and Wild

like. one thing that is Essential to any Obi-Wan dynamic To Me is that Obi-Wan is Not a kid person, nor does he particularly like or understand kids much(an exception is made for Anakin’s kids however, bc they’re anakins, and anakin probably had baby fever from the age of Baby), and i feel like u are particularly good at translating that vibe? like Obi-Wan with any partner he has: no i’d prefer to be childfree/any children will be an accident, something i do to fulfill expectations meanwhile Obi-Wan with anakin: how can I get more skywalkers? kidnapping?
ooo this is fun, I think my own ideas of obi-wan with children lean more towards ambivalence and bewilderment. he’s not a natural caregiver, but he has read all the parenting books within two days of getting settled with a child. He would not seek them out and doesn’t particularly want them or knows how to translate the care he feels towards them into something they’d understand, but he’s not so bad with children that they’re afraid or discomforted around him. He’s read the books. He’s studied for this 🫡
meanwhile anakin also does not strike me as a natural caregiver either but he’s stressed about it. He hasn’t read the books because he has a confidence thing going on about being good with children but that doesn’t make him actually good with children and the gulf between expectation and reality when he’s around kids stresses him out
when it comes to skywalker’s kids, has obi-wan ever had to once ask for a Skywalker to enter his life?? I imagine his thoughts are less along the lines of “how do I get more of these little guys? should I kidnap them?” and more along the lines of “I will just stand out in the universe with my arms open palms up and a Skywalker will be deposited within 2-5 business days”
#asks#obikin#real talk should either of them be trusted with kids#babies extremely different from young padawans#I get that anakin was good with Ahsoka in many ways but she was like 14 and a teenager#and not 7#bottom line neither are particularly good with babies/younglings#it just shows in different ways and is for different reasons in my opinion#but I agree 100% obiwan would#never really seek out kids of his own#unless it’s in an au where he’s darker and more interested in trapping anakin via having/raising a kid together#I love a fictional baby trapping scenario with these 2 insane guys lol

Frankly, I vaguely want a Sauron Accepts Redemption After The War Of Wrath AU just for the potential interactions with a reborn Finrod
#silmarillion#this like... aside. my general discomfort with sauron centric fics (though I will admit he's fun to write). but like.#actually I feel in normal circumstances finrod would be weirdly easily willing to accept the genuine regret of an enemy#which is a little boring and really charming of him but either way. saurons repentance is ¾ self-preservation instinct and I think it shows#which would make for some... interesting. interactions. and finrod is not one to just let a thorny matter be either.#on the other hand sauron/mairon's reaction to uncomfortable situations is to be as abrasive as possible I think#extremely suspicious behaviour from someone who is trying to make other people believe he's changed#all I'm saying is — there's potential here#sauron#mairon#finrod#au#silm

AHHHHHHHH HALF-TITAN LUZ IS A NEW DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE STORY!!!!!!
You said you won't spoil, so you don't have to acknowledge this take at all, but I'm going to take my shot at it anyway, because of my brainrot with your story. Luz gains her Titan characteristics from one of two things. Either:
the direct exposure to the sheer magical power of the Calamity gems from Sasha capturing and carrying/dragging her away reawakens some dormant part of her that was formed when she took in Papa Titan's spirit to briefly become a full Titan and kill Belos. (Could possibly play into your pet theory about how all dimensional travel can be sourced back to the Guardian, who created the Titans. So Luz and her dormant Titan side coming into contact with the energy that birthed the Titans in the first place reignites that aspect.)
Darcy has been reading their way through the history of the Boiling Isles after capturing the Archive House at the beginning of Frogvasion, along with any government buildings or libraries in the main cities. This is how they learn about a human folkhero in this world of witches in the first place and why they send Sasha to bring Luz to them. Now, this next part hinges on the books Darcy has been reading mentioning that Luz briefly became part- or full-Titan in the battle with Belos. If so, their interest in her is the same as their interest in the Shadowfish or Mossmen: Luz is a special, unique creature with abilities they want to study and exploit, because having the blood of the primordial beings who make up the continents of this world is a great boon that they want to have for themself. So...yeah...'scientific experimentation' time, aka torture (but not senseless torture), to try and bring back out her Titan side and which ends up working. Sort of. (You can be sure as hell that Luz would sooner die than let it slip King is also a Titan - assuming that information isn't in the history texts. Or maybe the Core is only interested in Luz because she's shown the ability for a human body to adapt to Titan blood/powers.)
Are Sashanne just hella toxic in an always-negative sense where it's like "how the hell are they even together in the first place?", or are they toxic in that they have such extreme ups and downs where they can be lovey-dovey at times (at least physically and affectionately) but then quickly slip back into Sasha emotionally ignoring Anne and Anne trying to manipulate Sasha, on top of all their other issues?
That Marcy sentence was FOUL, btw 💀
Yessssssssss prisoner Luz is the primary aspect of this AU! Let's go!!!!
As you said, beyond Luz being a naturally affable person, Sasha and Anne are desperate to have someone normal to talk to, since the only people in their lives right now are their hivemind boss (who they hate) and their bitch wife (who they hate, but also love). Enter Luz, and the Calamity girls are like, "holy shit??? A regular conversation? I forgot what this felt like!" And then they start getting attached to this kid a little.
The ambiguity and unease surrounding Anne and her powers is so freaking good. I love it so much.
It's unsettling and terrifying how she can make you doubt your own mind, because yeah, how do you know that what you're feeling and thinking are your own thoughts when you are helpless to even RECOGNIZE that you're being manipulated in the first place, let alone resist it?
I love your joke comic idea about Luz accusing the Core of having done something to Anne and Sasha (because why else would they be so terrible and toxic to each other?), only for Darcy to just snort and be like, "nah man, they were this way long before we got involved." (And I'm sure the Core feeds the flames of that toxicity, because keeping Anne and Sasha divided and at each other's throats is another layer of insurance to make sure they don't try and resist or rise up against Darcy.)
There could also be humor/jokes as Luz realizes these two god-like beings who have been terriyfing her world are:
her age or maybe even younger (3 years after Belos' death, she is 18, and Anne would be 17)
even worse, they're MARRIED??? Luz is out here living her best, yuriful life in her isekai world with her awesome girlfriend, meanwhile these two are the definition of "please get a divorce"
@finbowl
As funny as it would be for the multiverse's most divorced not-divorced couple to be younger than perpetual honeymoonphase lumity, they are a fair bit older.
In hindsight I think I should've written that the date in Luz's journal is 4 or 5 new era, but oh well path not taken. Suffice to say, the Calamity Girls are 29 (Marcy might be 30 at this point not that she gets to enjoy it), and Luz is 18 to 20. It's been about 12 or 13 years since the girls went to Amphibia, and they've been doing this multiverse conquest thing for a decade or so.
The Core being what it is and making them do what they do definitely isn't helping things, but let's be honest it doesn't have to do much to make Sasha and Anne's relationship more toxic, they are very good at doing that themselves.

We don’t know when the fed letter was written - it could have been while he was on the road for 5 days not eating or sleeping well. I think don’t think trying to dissect his written syntax is fair when he was clearly not in a good state when he was found.
have you considered that maybe it wasn't written by him at all and the NYPD officers so famous for falsifying evidences actually made that up so they could make a scape goat out of him?? also your assumption works only if you're violating his right to be presumed innocent and are hellbent on painting him as guilty before the trials even start
#look i was kinda thinking like you were from december#now i'm genuinely not sure#that letter came out in extremely fishy circumstances#and even the media that loves painting him as guilty wouldn't publish it fully#and we've never seen the actual thing#just typed versions#and KFA was saying she hadn't seen it by then either#and it genuinely doesn't sound like him#sure it could have been written by a very starved very sleep deprived absolutely not functioning optimally him#but it could also have been completely made up#in fact given how we do know that the shooter (if it's assumed to be him) evaded arrest for almost a week#they didn't want to be caught in any way and they were clever enough not to be#then why should the shooter have a letter addressed to the feds#and why on earth would Luigi write such trash grammar with weird diction and problematic syntax#none of it makes any sense#but above all i'd beg you to maintain his right to the presumption of innocence for the time being#and raising doubt like this in people's minds could possibly save his life#i'm not interested in getting him killed#i hope you aren't too#luigi mangione#free luigi#asks

"As for the government of the kingdom, [Edward V] had complete confidence in the peers of realm and the queen."
"According to the Crowland continuator, [Elizabeth Woodville] seems to have taken the king's place in listening to his council immediately after Edward IV's death. It does appear that she expected to have some role in her son's kingship, and the Crowland continuator’s report of the letters sent to her by [Richard of Gloucester] indicates that she had good reason to expect to be able to work with him and the other councillors: 'the duke of Gloucester wrote the most pleasant letters to console the queen; he promised to come and offer submission, fealty and all that was due from him to his lord and king, Edward V, the first-born son of his brother the dead king and the queen'."
"[However], in what was Gloucester's first coup, Edward V was separated from his household and Woodville advisors. When the young king questioned the move, Buckingham was reported to have told the boy 'It is not in the business of women but men to govern kingdoms'. The blunt remark referred to the authority of Elizabeth Woodville as queen and the power she must have anticipated within the new political climate left by Edward IV's sudden death. [...] While the veracity of this scene is questionable*, the words attributed to the duke no doubt seemed plausible to Dominic Mancini who believed they exemplified the popular sentiment held by men [...]."
— Dominic Mancini, The Usurpation of Richard the Third / J.L. Laynesmith, The Last Medieval Queens: English Queenship 1445-1503 / Alexander R. Brondarbit, Power Brokers and the Yorkist State, 1461-1485
*One of Mancini's key sources seems to have been Edward V's own doctor, John Argentine, who attended to him in the Tower. It's very likely that he was the one who recounted this scene to Mancini, which suggests that it should probably be considered more credible than not.
#historicwomendaily#elizabeth woodville#wars of the roses#15th century#english history#my post#Croyland wrote that 'The counsellors of the king - now deceased - were present with the queen' so yes#He clearly seemed to view Elizabeth as taking on Edward's role after his death#Which is striking since her son - the new King - hadn't even arrived in London yet let alone be crowned#It's also interesting that Richard wrote letters to *her* rather than the rest of the council and that she was the final deciding authority#when it came to her son (she was the one who wrote to him for his military escort) - it's a clear indication of who was seen as important#This is also reflected in 16th century chronicles like the claim that the Archbishop of York gave Elizabeth the Great Seal#We don't know if this is true - the Archbishop was definitely opposed to Richard but More may have embellished or invented the story#But either way it reflects the perception that Elizabeth would have a major role in the realm's governance during her son's minority#Which makes sense as Edward V would have been used to his mother governing for him as part of his council his whole life#It's also interesting to compare the impression we get of Elizabeth's role with that of former kings' mothers in late medieval England#Because that can help us understand her activities (and perception of them) within proper context rather than purely in isolation#From what I understand kings' mothers could be very influential (eg: Joan of Kent) but were almost never visibly/directly associated#with the governance of the realm. It's striking that the most extreme and arguably the only exception - Isabella of France - assumed#her unofficial regent-like role only after literally deposing the former King aka her husband in the most atypical situation imaginable#So it's striking that Elizabeth *was* visibly and directly associated with it despite her situation being entirely standard; despite the#lack of precedents; and despite the physical absence of her son. Especially since she was effectively the king's mother for only 20 days#I do think it's possible to argue that it says something about her power as queen#(Edward *did* give her unusual positions of authority either way) and may also suggest a more direct personality on her part#It may also explain why historians were/are so readily prepared to believe that she wanted to 'usurp the sovereignty' to quote George Buck#Ofc this is my interpretation based on my (limited) knowledge - feel free to correct me

blorbos from my brain
#beloved villainxcivilian wip. i need to draw you#post unrelated to previous few. mostly#if anyone's reading this post and curious: vague superhero/villain-containing setting; mc is a woman who gets out of a shit relationship#w a local hero by selling his work laptop to a local villain and using the money to flee the province/whatever with her cat & suitcase.#gets set up w a tiny apartment. barely leaves. severe anxiety that she's gonna be tracked down by either her ex or the villain to tie up lo#loose ends#eventually unwinds enough to leave; takes a 3rd shift at an ancient tiny library with old archives#local supervillain (not that she knows at first) becomes a repeat visitor looking over the old city blueprints and hwhatnot on file#eventually unwinds enough to start a mayyybe situationship#he's not blind she's clearly very distrusting n nervous even if she's got a crazy good customer service face so he's very slow abt it#lets her set the pace of whatever they're doing#which simultaneously reassures her and makes her nervous#because it could be a mask. it could be a trap. she literally has no way to really know#gets worse when the truth about his profession comes out#mental breakdown. lots of yelling. butter knife brandished like a weapon (<- taken very seriously)#once shit settles a lot of time is dedicated to figuring out how they want to continue this. if they want to#given that there is realistically a crazy power dynamic between them. she's an immigrant who had to uproot herself from literally everyone#and everything she knows and has; has no support system in a country she is technically not legally supposed to be in;#he is very influential; having both notable scores of money socked away and a potentially a mole in the local policing force#if he wanted to make her disappear in one way or another it would not be difficult for him#much how her ex was becoming. extremely overbearing so to speak#so Yah trying to navigate that. very serious discussions if they can make that work out or if they should split#bc i want a happy ending i think they make it work! not sure about the specifics but theyre good#i think he doesnt realize how badly shes fucked up until at some point after The Breakdown he puts together that she's the reason the hero#in a few provinces away got completely Fucked by the local villain scene#and putting that together with her severe anxiety and not-great living situation. why she would've possibly done that#anyways. the inspiration for this all was mostly out of distaste for most of the romantasy books i have to see in various fandom tags#male love interest who doesn't really respect boundaries VS. m.l.i. who is extremely respectful of boundaries while managing to remain a vi#villain by the laws of the genre/setting/otherwise plot#(and asking the question of what does villainy mean in this context)

-- Poorly Constructed Enchanted Tool --
A small tool carved from a fruit tree seed. Energy to power the enchantment has seemingly run-out long ago, and the method of recharging is unknown - but, based on the appearance, it's very likely that this was once used for detecting magic. Usually, looking through the glass center would highlight areas of higher magical energy concentration present in the viewer's environment, even if they were otherwise obscured to the naked eye. While this form of enchantment itself is highly advanced, the craftsmanship of the item is far less neat or complex than what might be typically seen in similar devices. It may have been made as part of training/practice, or as a hasty replacement for a previous tool that had broken.
#written from the perspective of some fantasy traveler who checks all of the local thrift-stores and lost & found places for every#town they visit - looking for interesting items and documenting them or something#In reality - just another one of my goofy little avocado pit carvings lol. Still working on inlaying little stones in them and stuff#I don't really have the tools to make super intricate stuff but doing little plain swirly patterns is still fine enough lol.#WORKING ON NEW POLL ADVENTURE also I know I know it's been months.. I have been Busy and struck by the evils of summer#But like I mentioned in the previous one I do want to at LEAST finish the quest with the egg lol#ANYWAY.#Things like this would plausibly exist in Nanyevimi (my fantasy world) but wouldn't be very common as - like mentioned- this would be an#extremely advanced enchantment. REALLY advanced mages could sense magic around them (to varying degrees of pinpoint accuracy of location#) without even having to use any external device. But for a majority of people there's really no way to know someone is using magic near#you unless you either see visual proof or if it's strong enough to feel effects from it (since magic is kind of like radiation in that the#higher energy/more of it youre exposed to the more it damages you/can make you sick/etc.) and even then most people would just be like#'hmm why do I feel so nauseous and bad out of nowhere?' likely wouldn't directly think to link it to magic. Thus the only really reliable w#way isto just hone your senses over like 500 years as you become an expert mage - OR use enchantments like these. But a 'sense magic' encha#ntment is not as common as a just 'magic is not allowed here' enchantment. If you wanted to prevent magic from being usedin a space#it's easier to just put up a broad barrier enchantment around that space than to have some sort of Magic Sensor to pick out if it's being#done and then handle each individual case of it . etc. etc. These sort of things can have their uses (especially for people investigating#things or trying to be secretive about detecting something etc.) but are less common - especially in this form (where visuals are used. itd#be more likely to jsut have like 'piece of metal that gets warm or cool depending on magic nearby'.) ANWAY so this is why it's a notable#object. Though a majority of the realm is not very magic literate - if you were a researcher or a mage and found this at a pawn shop you'd#definitely be like 'oohhh!! :0 inch resting... ' if not you might just be like 'oh cool necklace!' lol#also love the quick 2min ''costume'' for the image of it being used. literally just 'wrap yourself in scarves from the waist up' and slap o#a wig and ears lol#on this blog I guess since it's worldbuilding related and technically art.. maybe more like crafting? I should have a crafts tag lol.. hmm
