for context i got a whole huge Lore about all this nonsense. just go wih it. the TLDR is that interplanetary travel real and each planet has its own culture defined by its limitations and strengths. these guys are on Mercury (which is, in short, shitty, with few resources and its only strenght is year-round agriculture, but overall its a neglected portion of the system. their neglected status allowed a large and well-known criminal-tending ring (mercury's underground) to develop in tandem with the rest of the population)

martin "marty" hellacious (formerly Tsuchiya) was born on Earth (very hippy, very clean, very prideful on its "original planet" status and dead set on keeping it the controlled Paradise it is - leading to a one-kid rule) to too-young parents. he had such profuse issues and problems as a kid that neither parent knew how to handle that his parents just. gave him up. his mom got pregnant again and used the opportunity to just push marty (~11) off to whatever foster system earth has.

The foster system got fed up too, though, both with marty's frequent escapes and that at least one of the faculty's car/ wallets were likely swiped in the process. they ultimately decided to informally remove him from earth's gene pool and shipped his ass off to mercury. he met strela there, changed his last name, and began his new shitty life on mercury.

theres a whole chunk i wont go into - but after minor and consistent success with strela in mercurys only entertainment industry (football) he started a tiny recon operation with strela focused on recovering resources and minimizing damage caused by Mercury's Underground. while also a public service, there weren't very many people willing or able to do it. its a dangerous, physically daunting, and draining job, but Marty feels closest to his earthly roots and loves the freedom of being outside of Mercury's city bubbles. doesn't hurt that all his very few brain cells were adapted to memorizing the underground's mazes of tunnels and spatial awareness.

he's a huge grumpass, crass, loud, extremely emotionally defensive and walled off - but has indefatigable drive, laser focus, (a big soft heart, when you got to it) and the experiences to know that no one should be left behind.

strela doe was born on Mercury to two down-on-their-luck Mercury Underground affiliates, who just decided to give him up as a 2-day old. he grew up in the large population of mercury abandoned kids. quiet, withdrawn, and never demanding he was a self-directed kid who knew that the only way to get attention (and, potentially, an adoptee, which never happened anyway) was to be a "good kid" and keep his nose clean. he loved collecting earth memorabilia and third-hand stuff, since mercury's entertainment was practically non-existent, and the entertainment that was available was always about 20-30 years behind earth's.

at ~15, he met marty as one of his roommates at the home and was immediately intrigued by his Earthling status. meeting marty made him realize that being a "good kid" was useless, and grew more externalized, less uptight and withdrawn, more willing to take chances and completely riveted by marty's determination. they became close buddies, played the same sport, lived together, etc. etc. for the lifetime afterward. strela followed marty to his recon organization (the Mercurial Superstars) as the more public and emotionally intelligent side of the business, as well as the intel guy guiding marty in on his missions.

as an adult, strela is, externally, an affable and friendly leader who doesn’t take himself or his life too seriously. While, yes, strela is intrinsically good-natured, soft-hearted, dorky, and naturally talented, he's not carefree nor relaxed - those are traits he works incredibly hard to portray, and he take extreme measures to ensure that image is intact. strela will ignore things in favor of seeming relaxed until theyre falling apart at the seams.

as for strela and Marty’s personal relationship? that’s for another time…….., -----------------------------

ohhhh octane....how i love you///

octane was the FIRST one i drew, probably back in 2017/2018, but it was only in recent months where he really started to have a personality.

Octane. no last name. Hes one of the Underground's Titans - a small and elite group of the Underground who are very good at executing destructive schemes. in short, a huge asshole who wants what he wants, focuses on instant gratification and luxury, and has no qualms about destroying anything else in the way. he does things for fun and for pleasure, business is just a side hustle. his entire moral standing is best summarized as "boys just wanna have fun".

he's got a home-made prosthetic arm (classic crow!). that i do love drawing, i promise, don't worry his arm design does NOT change every 2 months

straightforward and powerful, octane is not unstable. hes immeasurably dangerous and destructive, plain and simple, and he knows it, and he loves it. the way he gets involved in this story? that's for another post......

My Thoughts on RWBY’s new intro and chapter 1

This is going to be long so is there’s someone or something specific you want to read, I’d suggest using ctrl+f

WHITLEY

ngl i just want to start with my boy bc I’m so glad to see him back. Half of this is speculation and theorizing with no real merit ngl, but it’s something I’ve been thinking of for awhile

First of all this is a,,, very uncertain and conflicted look on his face here. He has his arm wrapped around his stomach and he looks very pensive. imo, Whitley’s going to be faced with a choice, one with no easy answer for him. And an answer that

might not bode well for the schnee family

Those clouds are, of course, Salem’s. Which makes me fear that Whitley may fuck up badly, and end up siding himself with the wrong people and it is likely going to be up to Weiss to bring him back.

Whitley isn’t a fighter. and if Whitley does cause the downfall of the Schnee family, he wont be at use for long. And once Whitley outlives his usefulness, there is no reason for her to keep him around.

But there’s a line that has been in my head for the last couple days. Namely Whitley’s line of ‘what could one huntsman do that an army cannot?’

Again, Whitley is no huntsman, but what it boils down to is ‘what can one person do?’ And I think Whitley is going to have to answer that question himself.

I do think that Whitley is going to have to act at some point. Do something that puts him out for the greater good. I don’t expect him to suddenly join the fight, but I do think he will have his Pacifica moment. Where there’s something that he is physically capable of doing, but emotionally and psychologically it’s a mountain to him. Something only he can do, and Whitley will have to be the one person who changes the outcome of something dreadful. And most likely, i do believe it will involve Weiss

NORA & REN & RENORA (but mostly Nora)

I love renora. it is one of my favourite ships. probably my third favourite i have to admit.

what I don’t like is how its been going lately. while i do have the initial shipper reaction of ‘YES’ to the kiss, nora forcing it on ren sits wrong with me. Even more so their song last volume. It’s a bop of a song, true, but so much of it is nora telling ren to tell the truth only for her to tell him to love her. and while i’m sure he does love her, nora’s forcing it out of him and assuming is not healthy for either of them. Ren needs to come to terms with his own feelings, and these two need a wedge between them for a moment to develop separate from one another.

and while i think ren will come to understand and accept how he feels

i think nora might give up on the pursuit and will put their mission above her feelings

But I do absolutely love the focus on Nora and I hope that’s a sign we are getting her backstory this volume. Nora is going to be a major piece in all of this and I personally cannot WAIT

I will say tho that I think her siding with Ruby’s plan is a little,,, strange to me. She was all gungho for protecting mantle last volume and i find it odd that she’s not on team ‘protect mantle first’. i get that she needs to be in that group because of what is shown in the trailer, but personally i would prefer her reluctantly forced into that group because of her usefulness. to keep the devive, that would mean ren would need to side with the ‘protect everyone’ but I don’t think it would have been that hard to spin his mindset that way

I’ve seen some talk about winter maiden nora and, while i personally would have preferred it, giving the power to penny only to give it to nora next volume is a little,,, cheap to me. ignoring the fact that it would likely mean penny would have to die and i am not about that life

i still think penny shooting lightning bolts at nora to power her up would be OP as FUCK tho

CLOVER

WARNING: Talk about dead bodies. Both fictional and real.

now i won’t lie, i am avoiding that shot like the fucking plague so I’m working mostly from memory here

I have seen bodies hours after someone has passed. Unless the body has something what effects the colour, here’s a greyness to the skin. Yes, this includes all skin colours. there’s also a distinct blue colour to the lips though clover doesn’t,,, exactly have distinctive lips.

But seeing his body gave me the same nauseous and horrified sensation as seeing a long dead body. Of course not nearly as strong as he’s fictional and it’s animated, but it was the same. that sick greyness I’d expect from a body. ngl that shit,,, i wont say it triggered me, but it got damn close. it brought back memories and left me feeling very sick. It’s obvious he is very dead.

but even with that feeling, that didn’t stop me from being very fucking confused when I realised where the body was.

Now there’s a number of reasons that clover’s body would be there

They could have tried to save him and failed. They’re in a state of emergency and all the doctors are brought to one collective spot to deal with the potential rise of people needing medical attention. Maybe Atlas just works this way who the fuck knows. Most likely, they just wanted the Ace Ops to witness James and having Clover there just makes it easier to do that. but jfc if you’re going to have bodies in the medical area can you not install curtains??

ngl if i was at the hospital and they had a dead body uncovered and in full view of my room i would be

I didn’t want to go back and see that image again, so i poked around the clover tag to see what people were saying in case i’m dumb and missed something. but i think if they were trying to bring clover back, they’d make it more obvious. and they sure as hell wouldn’t have coloured him that way. but I don’t blame people for being confused about if he’s dead or not when they literally put him in with people getting medical treatment and give him a patient number

but talking about Clover fuck i miss you so much brings me to

THE STAFF OF CREATION (with mentions of ‘that’ theory)

Ozpin: [mentions that using the staff will make Atlas fall]

Joanna: [talks about plans to move mantle citizens into atlas’ crater]

While it is debatable what the staff will be used on, I think we can all agree this bitch is coming down. Personally I think it’s how the volume will end. with the staff used, and atlas dropping. It’s a fantastic cliffhanger but fuck imma be so mad if that’s really where it ends.

let me,,, get to that theory first. we all know which one i mean.

I’m not going to lie, i haven’t read much into it. mainly because i’d rather not get my hopes up and be pleasantly surprised than get my hopes up and be disappointed. Do i think it’s plausible? Well... after steven universe i think anything is possible. If it has even the slightest merit behind it I wont rule it out.

Do i think it will happen? debatable. i don’t think it was their plan but i also wouldn’t be surprised if they added it after the reaction to clover last year. but i’m not holding my breath. i’m leaning far closer to ‘no’ but i’m open to being wrong Do i want it to happen? god yes i fucking miss him okay i’m sorry i’m selfish i love my dumb fisherman himbo

the problem though is, if it can be done, there needs to be some form of payment. I know there’s been talk about a life for a life, and these are the options that come to mind: James: Don’t like this. James is a character rooted deep in the story and I think trading his life for Clover’s is,,, questionable. idk something about this doesn’t sit right. Especially when he has far more history with qrow than clover did. Tyrian: this feels cheap. trading a villain for a hero? that’s not even a payment, that’s hitting two birds with one stone. I do believe Tyrian wont survive the series, but this way is,,,, very cheap Qrow: pppppppppffffffttttt honestly this would just be a dick move that’s some monkey paw shit right there

either way, reviving clover would drop atlas and put both the people on atlas and under in danger. so the question is, is reviving clover worth it.

ethically, no. it’s not. one life will never outweigh thousands. but would my selfish ass rather risk thousands of lives for one comfort character? you bet your sweet ass i would. it’s fiction, see if i care. storywise tho, we probably shouldn’t

But there’s nothing in the OP to suggest that Qrow is after the staff. and while it could be left for volume 9, i don’t see this volume lasting without dropping atlas after this volume started with the reminder that’s what would happen.

but ruby is shown reaching for it. (also is it just me or do those look like nuckelavee arms?) which makes me wonder just what she could want it for. Sure, she could be reaching to protect it, and that’s highly possible. but if we’re already talking about bringing characters back, i would not be too surprised if ruby considers the same idea. Namely with summer (though pyrrha is also an option). If she does consider that though, I don’t think she’ll succeed. and I doubt she’d really try if she knows atlas would fall.

though if she wants to use it to save the world, if there’s something she can make with it that will stop salem, then i might believe she’d risk it. but even then i have a hard time believing she’d risk peoples lives.

but who else could and can get her hands on the staff?

PENNY

our sweet and dear penny, who has already suggested giving herself over to salem. and who is shown divided and framed opposing the team

While her being hacked is an option, and one i think james would consider letting watts do, from a story point I believe it’s far more interesting if penny is the one to decide this for herself.

Penny is a protector. And she wants to protect everyone. And one way she could possibly do that is by cooperating with salem. And with that gd whale having docking stations and a whole damn room inside it, penny going to salem fits with the whole ‘being eaten by a whale’.

and if penny is the cause of atlas dropping, that girl is going to be dealing with even more guilt than she already has.

JAMES

me: okay, i know james shooting oscar was a big dick move, but james has done so many good things too. imo it’s questionable writing, but james’ stance is understandable. he’s still a good person-

listen. listen. listen. I... i don’t know what the fuck the writers are doing with this one. it would have been just as easy to arrest him but we just... gun happy i see. but james being gun happy makes me very nervous for qrow and that ‘if you were one of my men, i’d have you shot’. qrow’s out for james’ blood, but I don’t think qrow could ever actually kill him. and normally i don’t think james could try and kill qrow, but these are,,, not normal circumstances, and james has a semblance that will absolutely help him pull the trigger

i still love james. and i still understand both sides of the fight. and i still believe james is a good person. there’s so many good things james has done, but fuck if the writers aren’t trying their hardest to make the fandom hate him. and for the most part, it’s working. my gf already hates him lol

when all is said and done, there’s a lot that james is going to feel guilt for, but it’s guilt he’s willing to bare

while i understand the reason behind making james the bad guy, i will admit that i’m bitter about it. namely because in volumes 2 and 3 there were so many people expecting james to be bad, only for him to prove himself as a good person. and now the story is doing its best to take that back

THE ACE OPS

Again, one of the main reasons i think they put clover there and confused the fuck out of people. I think there’s going to be a divide in the ace ops, and i think we see which side people fall on here

harriet and vine are going to be harder to turn, but i think this moment just planted some uncertainty in elm and marrow. I dont think it’ll be an instant thing, but this isn’t something they’re going to forget. this is going to bother them for a good long while. yeah, the writers are trying to turn the fandom on james, but storywise it’s planting the seeds of betrayal and giving the ace ops a reason to switch sides. but i don’t think they’ll come into fruition until the end of the volume

And while we’re talking on betrayal, Winter is edging herself closer too. but while i think she’ll turn faster than the ops, i also think she’ll be the most understanding and caring of james of them all.

Yang vs Ruby

pitting them together is honestly a good thing for yang’s character. they still love each other. they’d still fight for each other.

they may see things differently, and they may go their own paths, but there’s no animosity. they can work together and have each others backs, even when they don’t agree.

and that’s something team rwby/ornj and friends and james/aceOPs need to work towards

Yang was never happy with Ruby keeping secrets, and personally i think it’s good for her to voice it and go a path she sees as right

Tyrian (and nuts and volts)

we’ve seen a lot of tyrian’s smiles. he is a very animated person who broadcasts his emotions. in fact, the only time he ever quiets down is in front of salem

this smile is the most ‘you bitch you’re lucky mum is here’ smile ive ever fucking seen on this man grhueiorfubgnjfroe

look, i don’t think tyrian and arthur are romantically involved. but i do think tyrian is fond of arthur. whether that’s romantic or platonic is up for debate, but tyrian has always spoken foldly of arthur. tyrian obviously does not like cinder or her crew, though he does love picking on them while i dont think he has that level of dislike for hazel, hazel is the sort of person to not like unnecessary killing, so i don’t see them getting close. Arthur crafted him his tail, and he organized a plan where tyrian got to murder often. out of the bunch, i think it’s rather obvious arthur is the person closest to him, and I also think he’s absolutely looking forward to seeing arthur again

Emerald/Mercury/Neo

first of all, FUCKING FINALLY! MY KIDS HAVE NEW OUTFITS! now there’s things i like and don’t like about mercury’s. personally, i like his old outfit better, but he NEEDED new clothes so i don’t miss it! Emerald is looking GOOD!! i don’t give a fuck what anyone says, she looking fine as hell

hazel tho, what the FUCK did they do to your hair?? who the fuck did this?? how DARE YOU

that’s all i have to say about hazel bc boy is quiet but WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE?? while we talking about new looks, winter is looking FIIIIINE too

Neo is, very obviously, finding this whole situation fucked up. i know a vast majority of us thought Neo would turn on Cinder, but at this point i believe she was content with finding a new reason to live. but the more cinder brushes her aside, and the more she gets to know salem, she’s looking more and more disturbed and annoyed with it all.

emerald is an obvious turn. with her whole Aladdin tale, i wont be surprised if she takes the lamp from salem and uses the last question. (i’ll admit though that i’m curious what salem’s question(s) is). now i still think neo will want to kill ruby, but i don’t see her staying sided with salem and cinder. i will say tho that I find it fucking HILARIOUS that salem has no fucking idea who she is. how much of cinder’s plan did salem even know? did she know about roman? did she know about mercury and emerald before they went to pick up her silver eye’d ass? Salem cut Cinder down for ‘acting without salem’s say so’ but how much of that has cinder already been doing before now pffffttt

but mercury’s the only one that isn’t showing that much hint to turning. and personally, that makes sense. Mercury’s been shown plenty of times being disturbed by it all. he’s always stood beside emerald, equally frightened or distrusting. but if salem is calm and mercury’s in no real immediate danger, mercury has always tried to play with the big boys. he has a better poker face than emerald and neo, but he doesn’t belong there nearly as much as he pretends to.

but mr pokerface isn’t perfect. the moment he notices cinder, his attention goes back to emerald, and he watches her. he’s told her before that cinder doesn’t care for them. he’s tried to break that to her, and when they come to face cinder he’s not happy. less so when emerald instantly runs back to her. he knows emerald’s goiing to get hurt, and while he’d like to think he’d be the type to say ‘i told you so’, he’s not going to take pleasure in seeing her hurt

but one think about emerald is that she reminds me a lot of nora. they were both starved and homeless, and were ‘saved’ by someone else. but cinder is no lie ren, and emerald’s gone a very different path. not to mention her ‘saviour’ came much later in her life, and nora is on equal footing with ren and has saved him right back. but nora has been shown to empathise with mantle and its condition. which makes me wonder if emerald will too. she described the attack on vale as ‘sad’. So emerald, how will you feel when you take in the situation in mantle?

CINDER

i’ll be honest, i don’t like cinder. I’m sorry ;n; she just never interested me. she has a nice design, but other than that i just,,, never clicked with her. but i am happy we’re getting a backstory for her. mostly because it’s damn well due, and for her fans. y’all enjoy your food

that is,,, where i’m going to leave it. it’s late and i need to sleep. there’s probably things i missed, and if there is i’ll add to it in the morning. but these are the immediate thoughts that come to mind.

Everytime I see hate comments about this relationship it shows how immature the malex fandom is! This relationship is not rushed you guys are just to obsessed with malex to realize it! It's the same as the books, Michael and Maria never got along, Michael never trusted humans cause of how he was raised and Maria always thought he was a asshole, but when she finds out about aliens they get closer, Michael starts letting her in and Maria realizes how wrong she was about him and they eventually become one of the most popular couples in the books even more popular than max and liz! Ya'll are forgetting this is based off a book just cause they changed some stuff and changed Michael and Alex's sexuality doesn't mean they cant still focus on Michael and Maria's relationship! You guys are reminding me of the faberry fandom from glee they never got together but were so blinded by the love for them you didn't want them with anyone else! How to enter a fandom - RPC

Hey guys, time for a friendly PSA from yours truely~

So I’ve been in and out of a lot of fandoms, made friends, enemies, frenemies, grave mistakes and happy accidents. I also see a lot of people come in other fandoms. Most of yall do great but I see some people carry in this weird sort of self deprecating attitude that can immediately turn rpers away from them, which results in; more of that self deprecation. So Im here to hopefully help out with the best ways to enter a fandom or an rpc, make your presence known and make lots of wonderful friends.

Now the first, and most important thing, and I notice a ton of people struggle with it is:

General attitude.

Let me give two examples of some first time posts.

“Hey! I’m new to the fandom. I know my bio and my theme sucks but would anyone like to rp? Maybe?”

VS.

“Hey! I’m new to the fandom. My bio and rules are located here, though they’re still under construction I’m really eager to develop them with interactions!”

Now I know the first one is tempting for a lot of reasons. You might not even feel like its all that bad, but up next to the second one it actually sounds a little...depressing, monotone, dry. Even though they start the same, one ends with me feeling like: this person really doesn’t put effort into things, they dont even really want to be here. All my threads with them are going to be lazily written or probably written with half baked enthusiasm.

The second person is happy to be here, eager to interact, admits that since they’re a new blog not everything is perfect. Yet, they don’t talk down on themselves or make it seem like anyone who talks to them will only be taking pity on them.

This is actually a big problem I see in the rpc. Making people take pity on you for interactions and the rule with that is simple:

don’t make people feel like they have to take pity on you.

It’s a knee jerk reaction, I know. We’re all awkward humans on the internet who want to play up our faults. Who wants to say “My stuff is SO awesome! It’s the best”???

Well. You do. You’re new to a fandom. People already have established relationships, character arks, possibly with another version of the muse youre playing. Backstories so detailed it’ll make your head spin. You are literally selling yourself to these other rpers. Don’t sell them “A vacuum cleaner that sucks. No, not sucks up the dirt, it just sucks. Like me, Im trash and dont even have a working vacuum” No one wants to buy a vacuum cleaner that sucks.

Hate to break it to you, but when you say you suck, or your stuff sucks; people are gunna believe you. Or they’re just gunna pity you. And thats not great either.

Heck you might think; why not? So long as they rp with me, whats wrong with that?

Well... lots of things but mostly; pity isn’t a good feeling. Nobody wants to feel guilted into rping with you. Imagine seeing someone on your dash constantly posting about how no one likes them, their character or interacting with them. How they wanna die because they never get asks, no one likes their starters. (Sound extreme? I’ve seen it.) It makes you feel bad right? It makes you wanna like them but like- where do you even start??? They don’t even like them?? What common ground do you have?? “Hey, I see you hate yourself... uh... I hate you too?” Not great. Actually bad. You don’t know how to approach this person without becoming an emotional crutch, and you know they’ll latch on to you and suck every positive emotion out of your body so how do you win?

So lesson one is; People don’t want to be forced to feel so bad that they rp with you, they want to feel inspired to. Inspire some dudes! (or non-dude identifying people)

I can’t stress enough how important attitude is because I’ve had both a shitty attitude and a great one in the RPC and let me tell you, nothing kills a blog faster than a shitty attitude. Wanna make a self deprecating posts about that meme that you got 0 asks for? NUH UH. Think again. PITY = BAD, SHORT LASTING FRIENDSHIPS. INSPIRED = SUPER AWESOME HAPPY FUN TIMES FOREVER.

Yo, present yourself in a way that makes people wanna approach you. Get them interested, say something wacky or edgy or if your character is self deprecating then self deprecate through them but DO IT IN A FUN WAY. The people who care about icons and fancy promos usually aren’t worth lasting friendships either. Sometimes they literally spend more time formatting than writings something worth while for you. (some of you really balance it and just love formatting but u know im not talking about u Im talking about those that literally wont talk to us that dont)

So present yourself well and be genuine.

The internet is a playground because you can trick people into believing whatever you want about yourself. YEP even good things!!! You don’t have to wear your flaws on your sleeve, and you certainly don’t have to wear them like a full body cast that prevents you from doing anything fun in your life.

Take the cast off, take a risk. You literally have nothing to lose. Especially if no one interacts with you as is anyways.

Be mindful

This is more of a trick I use to make myself feel better. I don’t follow a lot of people so my dash is pretty slow. It’s fairly easy to tell when people are and aren’t active/online so I literally have to trick myself sometimes but;

If you reblog a meme and get nothing, step back and ask yourself; am I sure anyone even saw it? and are the people who did maybe to shy to send anything? Or maybe nothing in that meme applies to their character.

As a mute character I am VERY restricted to what memes I reply to. As a character who speaks VERY LITTLE I am VERY restricted to what dialogues I can send at all. This means I’m required to edit memes a little (this is allowed by most meme creators btw) or I need a very good relationship with a character in order to say/sign that many words at them.

And worse case scenario, queue it and reblog it again/later. Its no biggie, some memes don’t make it.

Self reflect

Check out people on the dash. Do they have interactions? What are they like? Is their character more welcoming? Maybe you’re character is more intimidating. You might need to actually seek out interaction.

Tumblr has this huge enigma where everyone wants asks but no one wants to send them. Curious anons come from someone, magic anons come from your peers, followers, friends. Some of them are pretty obvious. Want asks? Send them. We really need to get the ball rolling with this because its honestly a problem. Show some initiative and reach out. It actually feels pretty good seeing someone react to your outrageous anon. And its a lot of stress relief if you play an otherwise very serious character to get to branch out and be silly.

So you send asks, you like starter calls- why isn’t it working?

Well, a stranger knocks on your door and tries to get to know you. Its a little awkward- it can work sure in some cases. But in most you’ll probably close the door and phone the police.

The RPC isn’t as strange as that but what’s easier? Talking to a muse you’ve never met from a blog you’ve never seen before? Or writing a thread with your best bud, throwing in inside jokes and references to your favourite shows- teasing each other about that one embarrassing thing that happened to your muse- yeah. Yeah you get it.

If you have history or at least an idea what someone is like, you will want to interact with them more. I don’t know if you’re some mean... meanie pants whos gunna smack my muse because he offered you a cookie. And maybe you are, but if I don’t know you, or know that your muse is deeply traumatized by cookies, I might take that as you saying “Ew no get away I never wanna rp with you”.

It sounds harsh, but I KNOW it happens. It STILL happens to me, even with people I’m friends with. Even if someone has multiple blogs and I get on fine with one muse, if the other hates me I might get uneasy about sending in asks cause I feel like I’m directly bothering the mun (who I love on this blog but WHAT IF THEY START HATING ME THERE TOO???)

Separation is tricky. We all get jealous or feel neglected when our partners focus on another thread/ship or send mean angsty replies which is why its important to check yourself remind yourself you have value, mun =/= muse and that it’s all in good fun.

Have Rules

UGH no!!! Not rules I hate rules, I dont want to restrict anyone!

Listen. I get it. I was a rule-less blog for a long time. But you know what? You need them. Not just for you, but for the people who wanna interact. I still feel the need to ask people who have rules what they are and aren’t comfortable with. You might not realize it but shit can go down in rps especially in certain fandoms. Even if its just the basics. Write them. They matter.

Unless you’re fine with someone literally controlling your character, or a blog you dont even follow who RPs David Letterman tags you in a smutty thread where your muse and him are married and he’s heavily pregnant with 4 narwal baby’s I- I think you can see where I’m going.

If its just the basics, thats fine, everyone loves seeing that. No god modding, not forced shipping, ect- great. Less for me to remember. Add to it if you need to. Everyone experiences rp different. Make your experience a comfortable one.

(And stay tf away from me Preggo-letterman)

Step away.

If you’re feeling negative, just step away. Do not make a big post about it alerting everyone who follows you because they might not all respond well. If you have close friends in then fandom you can go to, talk to them, vent a little, or just remove yourself and get those feelings out. But remember that no one here is equipped to be your therapist, and we cant all be expected to take the burden from you. It is up to you to regulate your emotions. Use coping skills but please don’t make the fandom or your blog a toxic place to be.

You don’t feel good, and no one reading your posts feels good, and building friendships on not feeling good is just... completely not good.

Im not saying you must be sunshine and rainbows all the time, but feeling bad feels bad and even though rping is just a hobby and a past time you are still reaching into other peoples lives. Leave a good impact, try to be someone you would want to meet in the rpc. Make it a better place.

Non-RP Blogs (Personals) do not Interact and/or Like and/or Reblog this post. I will block you if you do. I only tag these posts with findable tags as a courtesy to my followers who are not caught up with the campaign.

When Orym was falling, part of him accepted it. He was ready to fall because he had no way to stop it. The ship was going far too fast, and the height was to high. He also did not have enough hit points to survive that fall. This is not like the fall in Escape the Bloodkeep. This is entirely different.

Orym flipping in the air definitely did not help him keep his mind in the clear. Its not like if he was making just a straight fall where he could think and accept it. He would have eventually stopped spinning I like to think.

However as he fell he knew it was the end. Given the opportunity Liam would have RPed it that way. Orym seems very okay with eventually facing death, which is sad since we know next to nothing about him. But he would have been okay to meet the big moon again.

When Orym gets onto the deck of the ship, and yes he will want to know what Fearne would have done if she ever brings up she was going to try something. He is very shaken up. He had come to terms with his death and was alive, and was saved in a way that he could never do for the others. That is why he is so grateful to Imogen and Laudna. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him start protecting them more so they can do more in fights now, and I wouldn’t be surprised for him to start singing their praises in a way he hasn’t before. They did what he never could and he appreciates that.

He is very shaken up, and is taken to rest by Ashton. And I fully believe he is just resting rather than fully sleeping. He isn’t so much thinking its just resting. He needs to take that time to more or less process what happened in a way that will eventually lull him into a dreamless sleep. I definitely think this also opens up a conversation avenue with Ashton. As Orym played off what happened and the focus very quickly went away from him save for Ashton who kept the lookout for him.

If he is upset that the fall and his feelings around it wasn’t talked about it, or if people care he will not voice it. He knows others are more important and had very cool things happen. And he was avenue for that, so he is okay with not being the center of attention. He is good at compartmentalizing, so he wont bring it up, but he does likely need to talk about it but he wont unless someone else does first.

I do think this fall will cause sleep to be harder for him, as I do think this will cause nightmares. It will also cause him to perhaps think more of his background, and question if he is worth being an Air Ashari, and if he did what he could if that makes sense.

Mark was sitting on the couch. He had the TV going, but at a low volume. He didn’t want to wake the little borrower sleeping near him. Mark couldn’t stop thinking about what just happened. ’ The poor guy, he was so scared. I know he said people always hurt borrowers and stuff, but.. He just seemed too scared to only be thinking of the possibilities. Did something happen to him before? Am I over thinking this? ’

Mark looks over at Jack. He looked so peaceful, all curled up in a loose ball, his head resting on his arm. ’ Yeah, probably.. And if I’m not, I’m sure he’ll tell me about it once he trusts me.. If he ever trusts me. ’ He thinks. Mark looks over at the cookie, and smiles. ’ Man, the bite marks are so small.. He’s so small. It’s so cute, like the tiny bite marks of a kitten ’ ( No, this is not meant as a way to ship them )

He then turns his attention back to the TV, until he hears a small noise. He looks over, the corners of his mouth dipped down. Jack was tossing and turning, small little whimpers and whines escaping from the back of his throat. He was mumbling.. something. Mark couldn’t tell what.

He reaches his hand over, and gently scoops Jack up. He doesn’t want to wake him unless its absolutely necessary. He starts rubbing Jack’s back with his thumb again. That seemed to calm him down before, and if it doesn’t work, he’ll wake him up. ( I do this with my dog Harley. I’ll wake up to him whimpering and moving all around in his sleep. So I’ll pet his head or back, which calms him down. I also did this with my little sister. )

Mark happily realizes that it’s working. Jack slowly settles down, and once again peacefully sleeps. Mark smiles, and cups Jack against his chest. Jack seems to be reaching for something, or trying to find something. Mark quirks an eyebrow, and with his opposite hand, rests his pointer finger infront of Jack. Jack quickly finds his finger, and grabs on to it. He wraps his arms around Marks finger, and curls around it slightly.

“ Aww.. ” Mark coos quietly. Hey, look, it doesn’t matter how masculine you are, you’d coo to! Mark then looks back to the TV, happily holding the borrower as he reassuringly rubs his back.

-Time skip-

Its been about three hours since the little incident in the kitchen. He let go of his finger after about an hour ago, and Mark would on and off rub Jacks back.

Jack begins to wake up. He shuffles around a bit in Marks hand, and sits up. He rubs at his eyes, a yawn emitting from him. Jack looks around for a moment, his eyes still blurred. When they focus, Jack feels his nerves fire up. Why was he in someones hand? Who’s holding him? Why-

His memories choose then to surface, and once they do Jack feels himself relaxing. He let’s out a sigh of relief, and looks up at Mark.

Mark was looking down at Jack with a big smile. He completely stopped rubbing the borrowers back. Jack really wasn’t helping him get rid of the ’ He’s cute like a kitten ’ thought. Jack smiles back up at him nervously. ’ Hey Mark, um.. Why are ya holdin me? “ he asks, raising an eyebrow a bit.

” Well.. “ Mark says, as he brings up his opposite hand to scratch the back of his head, ” You seemed to have been having a nightmare. I remembered how my rubbing your back seemed to help you calm down earlier, so I scooped ya up and.. Yeah. Here we are

“

Mark doesn’t tell him how he had held on to his finger. He didn’t want to embarrass the poor guy. Jack gives a small nod. ” Oh. Alright. “ After a moment of silence, awkward for the borrower and comfortable for the human, Jack looks up at Mark. He tugs on his sleeve to get the humans attention. Mark looks down at him.

” Can you put me down..? “ Jack asks, a bit of hesitancy in his tone. Mark smiles, and with a nod, sets his hand on the couch. He tilts his hand, which lets Jack slide off his hand. ” Imma make some food, OK? “ Mark asks. Jack gives a nod. He feels hope that Mark will give him food as well, but he quickly squishes it out. He was lucky that Mark hasn’t killed him, even let him eat a bit of his cookie. He shouldn’t- ” Do you want any? I mean, all I’d have to do is take a bit of my own food, so. “

Jack’s eyes widen in surprise, and he looks up at Mark. He gives a small nod. ” Um, yeah, yes, please. “ Jack says, and smiles. Mark smiles back. ” Alright, I’ll be right back Jack. “ Mark says, and smiles bigger. ” That rymed! “ He says, as he fists pumps. Jack chuckles, and sits down criss-cross-apple-sauce. Mark does to the kitchen

-Marks pov-

Mark starts up the stove, and pulls out ingredients to make some home made pancakes. Cause who doesnt like pancakes? He goes to the fridge, planning on pulling out some bacon, when something catches his attention out of the corner of his eye. In confusion, Mark turns to the object. He picks it up, and inspects it. It was a tiny backpack.

’ This must be Jack’s. ’ Mark thinks. After a quick once over of the counter, he sees Jack’s makeshift graveling hook. He picks it up by the hook. Mark then sets all Jack’s stuff in his pocket, and goes back to the fridge, cause he didn’t forget about that bacon.

-Time skip-

Mark walks back to the living room. He’s carrying his plate, along with a bottle cap with bits of bacon and pancakes for Jack

” Hey Jack, I got us some-OH MY GOSH! “ Mark says, as he sees Jack dangling off the side table by the couch. Mark quickly drops the food on the table, and sprints over to Jack. He puts his hand under Jack, quickly picking him up. He gently pinches Jack’s hand between his fingers, inspecting the little burrower.

When he was content in knowing Jack was alright, he sighs in relief.

” Jack, what the heck were you doing? You could have fallen and gotten hurt! “ Mark says, sterness and frustration in his tone. He wasn’t mad at Jack, just concerned.. But Jack didn’t see it that way, because why would anyone be concerned for him? Atleast, that’s what Jack thought.

Jack hadn’t meant to make Mark mad, he just got curious when he saw something he couldn’t make out on the side table, but he lost his balance. But now Marks mad at Jack. Now he wont let Jack eat, he won’t be nice and he’ll be mean just like the last lady, because why would it be any different?

Jack flinches, and curls in on himself. His whole body shakes. Although, Mark doesnt notice just yet. ” You should have waited! What if you had fallen and I’d stepped on you?! “ Jack whimpers at at Marks words, tears slipping down his cheeks. Mark’s right. He’s so stupid, he should have waited, just like Mark said.

” You have to be more careful! Or next ti- “ Jack had stopped being able to hear him, and let out a heart wrenching wail. His mind was plagued with fears and scenarious he thought would happen. He didn’t want to be hurt again!

Mark pauses in his scolding, his eyes widening in shock. Jack was crying loudly, trembling and shaking his head back and forth quickly. ” Im sor- Im sorry! I didn’t mean to-to! I saw somthin and-and I wanted to know wha-what it was and lost my balance-ance and-and- “ Jack gets interrupted by another sob. ” I didn’t mean to make ya mad! It was stu-stupid and I’m sorry, just please don be mad- don hurt- “

Jack cries interrupt him once more, and he just stops trying. He won’t get out of this. Of course he’d still hurt him, he deserves it. It’ll be just like it was with that mean lady, always getting hurt and punished over him doing stupid things, and he deserves it because he’s an idiot.

While these thoughts kept flying threw Jacks head, drilled in from living at that horrible womans house and being her ’ pet ’, Marks heart felt like it was being crushed by a boulder. His chest had felt like it was sinking throughout Jacks whole speech, and gosh was his heart wrenched. He didn’t know what to do for the little borriwer in his hand, who was tugging at the hem of his own shirt, whimpering and tucking himself into himself.

Mark goes to rub his back, but hesitates. What if he scares him more than he already has? Although, when another tear jerking sob escapes the poor Irish borrower, Mark makes up his mind. He sits down, and sets a pillow in his lab. He sets the hand holding Jack down on the pillow, and reaches over to grab the cookie. That seemed to comfort Jack before.

Mark slowly, tentatively, stretches his thumb over to slowly, gently rub Jacks back. He feels Jack stiffen, flinch, then sob louder. Mark cringes at this, he doesn’t want Jack to be scared. But he had to prove he wasn’t going to hurt him..

Mark gently puts Jack on the pillow, good. That helped a bit. ” Jack, Jack, please listen. Im not mad, Im not mad, I was just concerned. Just scared. I don’t want you to get hurt. It scared me seeing you hanging there, but I didn’t mean to scare you. Im not going to hurt you, OK? Its OK, it’s OK I promise. “

Mark goes into mumbling quiet reassurances. It takes awhile, an hour actually, but it happens. Mark had kept up his rubbing, his reassurances. The cookie was near by, and their lunch ( of pancakes and bacon, yes yes, I know ) was cold, but Jack was calming down.

” I.. I really am sorry .. It wa- “ ” No, Jack, stop. I overreacted because I was scared, don’t apologize.. “ Mark says. He grabs the little bottle cap full of lunch ( brunch? ), and sets it by Jack. He knudges the cookie closer to Jack. ” Go on now, eat. The food is a bit.. Cold.. But it’s food right? “ Mark asks. Jack nods, and slowly reaches for his food.

What a great way to start lunch

Pros: POC character (I know there’s the likes of Vaggie fyi, but I mean someone who at least appears as though they’re human), beautiful animation, though there’s so much repetition on these neon lights aesthetics that NEEDS a change up otherwise each setting will feel the same it DOES genuinely look visually appealing, For the most part I do like this POC character and I fuckin PRAY that they dont fuck this up Cons: Hearts (I know it’s sorta Viv’s thing but after so long it feels incredibly bland and recycled - as for hearts in the lust ring you can use other symbols: lips, cherries, legs, breasts/pecs, back, bum, handcuffs, tongues, whips, flames - point is, the hearts are getting overbearing and bland now), plot (listen, after all the shit Ive seen PLUS that tag at the end, I dont have too much hopes of this being amazing. Decent but giving off a bad vibe. If that makes sense? OTHERWISE there’s nothing here that I can made any solid affirmations about), Feels like it appeals to younger audience, Stolas (by Blitzo’s crotch and the sadness at the dinner table - they’re going to play him off as some shitty endgame ship and that’ll just... Need I keep singing this song? Regardless of reason, an affair is disgusting. I love Lore Olympus but it too is not above critique and I dont approve of the way it handled affairs either, though it’s done a much better job than Viv sadly-), Blonde (Lemme make this clear, I have 0 against blond hair BUT most of Viv’s female case is blonde or light haired in some way, making this another repetition to hearts as well as recycling designs. The fact that her hair is dyed blond kinda feels like a kick too. Now I know in one stream Viv DOES confirm that she dyes her own hair blond as she prefers light hair. Whilst I dont wish to jump the gun I do feel this impacts her designs as they all just match her aesthetics. Idk I feel she could vary shit up way more), Over focus on sex as usual (again this feels like its for a younger or more immature audience- nothing wrong in it being involved but at this rate it’s borderline obsessive) Neutrals: Angels (heaven born only look alien YET these cherubs and collin dont. They look as stereotypical as most of Viv’s other stuff. However I like that the designs arent overkill but they do look lackluster enough to be overall forgettable. The designs just feel inconsistent to what we’ve been told), Visuals (gorgeous but with some repetition making it categorised as either ‘run down streets’ or ‘neon night club’. SPICE IT UP!), I want to but this in con but I dont want to overwhelm that section - Viv doesnt know her demonology (it doesnt have to be to the T but 1) people WORSHIP these deities - you need to be VERY careful how you represent them, Apollo being a rapist in LO still raises heat bc fans genuinely think the God is like that, 2) Demons are more easily summoned that protected from - dont fuck around with real sigils because there’s libraries that wont tell you everything. Trust me. 3) It’s all surface level at best and a weird fixation on goetia and christianity. If she wanted her own original idea of an afterlife she would have been better off mixing a few religions together with PROPER RESEARCH, handling it respectfully and making some original twists to deities and/or making her own BASED on said deities so as to not cause uproar. 4) She really doesnt know her demons well asides from image and name, great throw in their sigils and some of what they’re known for but that... Is flat. We dont see Stolas really embracing his role, he’s just a sex fiend which is quite different from the Goetia Stolas which wouldnt be an issue if she was respectful of traumas and beliefs, made more to Stolas than a woe is me love life and 1 dimensional, and just added MORE to the character. All people see him as is horny bird. Not a prince or great ruler or a fountain of knowledge of the shit people know Stolas for. Nope he’s just a horny bird and a ‘good dad’ - which he’s not even that. He cares for Octavia but not nearly enough to control his dick and make her feel scared she’ll leave him. If you put steak before a dog and tell it no, it will LISTEN. An animal has more self restraint by a simple command. At BEST he is portrayed - like MOST of Viv’s characters - as still stuck in a teen phase with faux understanding of adulthood, responsibilities and how one NEEDS to behave as an adult - and no that doesnt mean you cant have fun or have immature humour moments, but it’s not just ‘ADULTS HAVE SEX ALLLL THE TIME AND HAVE AFFAIRS AND HAVE ONE MOMENT OF MATURITY BEFORE LOSING SELF RESTRAINT’ - it’s insulting) Overall, it wasn’t really a trailer (which gives you some story and understanding of the plot), it was a teaser (glimpses of the future in an incohesive format to ‘tease’ the audience of what’s to come without relying on a narrative or story). Likewise, I wont be building high hopes either. It’s just... unfunny immaturity youd tell teens - like Family Guy (I still find it’s stupid shit funny like boomerang Peter BUT that never has a consistent narrative, NEVER works with serious topics, and just immaturely offends ‘because it can’ - it’s childish), Sausage Party or South Park. Viv posts a LOT (well used to) about BoJack and shows like it of quite good quality but it’s clear that what she thinks are masterpieces comparable are... Not. BUT she definitely has that skill and influence IF she opens up to criticism. Criticism allows you to acknowledge and accept failures and flaws as well as ways to rectify and address them. Success does not come without failure, and Viv URGENTLY needs to open herself up to this. That it’s ok. We all grow by things that teach us or where we fall. If we were instantly good, we’ve never learn or appreciate how we got there. TLDR; Visually it’s sex on legs (if you get this joke, you’re an old fuckin Brit most likely but god damn do you know a good man!), story wise eh, terminology weak, designs - SHAKE EM UP! Love some colour representation in human form (or what appears so) Hoping for positive changes Merry Christmas everyone

Structure Research

Simon Kennedy

Simon Kennedy’s architectural photography is amazing in showing us not only the function of the structure but the environment it exists in. His study of Heygate estate especially interests me, due to Kennedy’s use of the plain/gloomy light to bring out the character of the area the structure exists in. In fact, he took a risk in using this kind of diffused/overblown light, but due to this project having taken place over the course of many months, I suspect his final images may be multiple exposures together.

Nick Guttridge

I really enjoy Guttridges style, it’s very clean and modern. In fact, when I look at his work I get a very surreal feeling but not in an obvious or over-bearing way. He seems to have an intense focus when it comes to his leading lines, encouraging the viewer to explore the complex image. I like the fact that in some images Guttridge left in people, as the architecture would not exist without peoples influence and are often built for people.

Bas Prince

When looking at Bas Prince’s work, I always see landscapes. He truly focuses on the big picture, and really isolates structures within amazingly interesting landscapes and makes them even more interesting and very imposing buildings. I also love his simplistic approach when it comes to geometry, maybe it’s just the subject matter we see above but the simple block buildings are really dominating in the image and steal all the focus of me, the viewer.

Ralph Graf

Ralphs Graf’s work in the Bauhaus School of Art is fantastic. He has truly stayed true to the modernistic style of the building and its artistic history in Germany. The square windows, plain colours and hard lines are all captured in such a way that really shows the anti-traditionalist manner of the building.

Julius Shulman

Shulman’s work really shows the lifestyles that come along with some structures. I enjoy the fact that his subject matter in these images are really appealing, expensive structures that accommodate wealthy people, it’s rare in a world driven by sad scenes and dramatic imagery (which I also enjoy). I think the purpose of the building must have been import for him, as he usually shows a valuable asset to the home (pool, view, etc.) and the people enjoying them. I love the stylization of the images to, they almost feel like a movie set or something from a James Bond movie.

Distortion

Distortion in photography can be understood as being an optical illusion or effect is produced as a result of various techniques or processes, where the straight lines in an image appear curved or distorted. The overall effect is that the resulting images appear deformed or radically misshapen or twisted, though the range of effects, and indeed the strength varies depending on which lens is used or which position the camera is placed in, relative to the subject. Within photography, distortion falls into two distinct groups: perspective distortion, and optical distortion. Distinguishing between the various forms and processes of distortion is important, as each effect has a distinctive look, and also a distinctive process which is carried out to achieve it.

Optical Distortions

Optical distortion refers to any instance where the distortion results from a lens error, as no lens can completely prevent distortion, given the shape of the lens itself. There are three types of optical distortion; barrel, pincushion and moustache distortion.

hese images show Barrel Distortion. This type is commonly seen on wide-angle lenses where lines appear curved inwards, reminiscent of the convex shape of a barrel. It results from an image where the field of view of the lens is wider than the image sensor, essentially squeezing the image. Barrel distortion occurs with the majority of wide-angle lenses, as well as with zoom lenses with short focal lengths, though the degree of the distortion is mostly dependent on the distance between the camera and subject.

These images show Pincushion Distortion. This is the opposite of barrel distortion, as the lines appear to curve outwards. This results from the lens’ field of view being than the size of the image sensor, and so the image appears stretched. Pincushion distortion occurs primarily with telephoto lenses or zoom lenses, as image magnification in the photo becomes greater towards the edges of the frame. As with barrel distortion, pincushion distortion is also difficult to prevent through changing lens, and can be fixed simply in post-production.

These images show Moustache Distortion. This form is harder to spot, showing a bend towards the centre of the image, as the lines curve both inwards and outwards. Due to this, it is also referred to as ‘complex distortion’. This form is much more difficult to deal with, both in prevention and remedy, as it cannot be dealt with in the same way that the two other optical forms can. If this is attempted, the curves will become much more exaggerated towards the edges or centre respectively, thus specialised software must be used to fix this distortion.

This form of distortion is the most common, resulting even from the human eye. Perspective distortion occurs when an object is situated too close to the camera, as the proximity causes the image to distort when trying to represent the three dimensional proportion of the object in 2D. As such, this is not caused by a lens error, and can be prevented through test shots and varying the composition of your image’s subjects. Although many lenses claim to reduce this effect, they merely force you to change position, altering your image from that on the left, to the image on the right.

Although all distortions can be used deliberately to produce a creative effect, the use of curvilinear lenses is arguably the most recognisable. Whereas Rectilinear Lenses produce a natural effect with straight lines stretched towards the edges of the frame, curvilinear or fish-eye lenses result in a highly distorted image where the lines are unnaturally curved.

Fixing Distortion

There are many ways to fix distortion in your images. Given the wide variety of methods it is useful to categorise them based on the point in your shoot that you use them.

Pre Production

As mentioned, particular lens is advised to avoid particular forms of distortion. For example, To reduce barrel distortion, specific lenses can be used, such as the Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G, which aids distortion reduction, however it is important to note that this impacts negatively on the weight of this and other wide-angle lenses. Another example of useful lens for reducing distortion is a tilt-shift lens. This lenses optics can be tilted and shifted in relation to the image sensor. Tilt shift lenses also have the ability to swivel, changing the cameras perspective but keeping you unchanged, which reduces distortion. Research into the best lenses for your project should always be undertaken well in advance in order to save time and effort wasted on fixing distortion problems in post production.

Mid Production

The easiest way to reduce distortion during your shoot would simply be to change position. You may be too close to your subject, making features appear big and domineering in the frame, and vice versa. This is particularly important when doing architectural photography, because a change in the scale can result in your subject appearing unfamiliar, which can result in the purpose of your shoot being ruined.

Post Production

Distortion can also be corrected in post-production, using software such as Adobe Photoshop or Lightroom. One tool you can use on Photoshop to correct distortion is the adaptive wide angle tool. This can be found in the filter menu. Using the tool in auto mode you can manually draw lines down your image where you see the edges of a structure becoming distorted. As you click the tool corrects any curved lines, removing the distortion.

Idea

The V & A museum in Dundee is a very interesting building from many different angles, almost resembling a beached wale or some sort of ship. According to the construction company “bam”, the museum is effectively two separate three storey buildings, joined at roof level. Surrounding Scottish cliffs were the inspiration for the outer walls. The curves are formed from a series of concrete panels, each a different profile, inset with lighter coloured pre cast concrete slabs. I think this would be a great building to shoot as we have an amazing building in its entirety to photograph but also many opportunities to get close in detail shots. The contact number is 01382 411611. I plan on shooting this at time different times. The golden hour and the blue hour. I think sunlight could bounce of this building in a very interesting way but I also think the imposing shape and the fact that it is basically a docked building could make the blue hour work even more. A return train ticket to Dundee is around £24.

I have emailed asking about access building am waiting for a reply, if I don’t get that I will call and if access if restricted then I’m going to go with the college building itself. It’s easy to get access to, the structure has a lot of elements too it and is genuinely a nice building. Also I know I wont get knocked back from shooting there and I’m getting tired of emailing/phoning places for no result.

Structure Evaluation

In this brief we were tasked with capturing five images of architecture. 3 of these shots were exteriors, two included controlled perspectives and one included the complete building, followed by 2 interior shots.

The building that I chose to capture was the City of Glasgow Cathedral Street Campus building. I chose this setting for my shots because I knew I would benefit from a building which was not only architecturally interesting and significant, but which I could gain complete access to. A number of other buildings I had considered were very restricted in what you were able to capture, or didn’t permit photographs at all. I also knew this building pretty well and knew that there were a lot of photographic opportunities there.

Staring with the wide angle exterior shot, I found this to be the hardest of my set of images to complete as it was very difficult to find an angle that would fit the whole building in and look good at the same time. I was using a 18-55mm lens because it gave me the widest angle I could get. I tried to capture my image further down the street to get a better angle, but there were a lot of distractions like bins, lampposts and bus shelters. Cars would also zoom past a lot and obstructed the frame, making it look cluttered at times. I considered doing a longer exposure to get the trails of the car lights in but this to me was a bit unnecessary and I wanted to capture the building during it’s time of use - the early afternoon. I edited my image very simply, removing a few people who stepped in my frame and some bins but very little was done. The perspective control was simply done on Bridge, using the transform tool to auto adjust the perspective control, I used this for all my images but used different settings each time.

I then moved onto to focus on my exterior detail shots. The college building has very interesting shapes and lines, with a certain uniformity to it all so I focused on that. The first wider angle image shows this with a semitropical grid towering down and windows peaking out behind them, I chose to show this because the modernism is really striking and when I first saw the building it gave me a futuristic and very scary feeling but as I grew to know it, it became far more comfortable and I realised it was just a place for structured creativity. I think the building really screams that, and I hope it comes across through my images. The second exterior detail shot was again captured using the lines of the building but this time I wanted to show more of the curvature on the block architecture and how shadows get stuck in very interesting places due to the building’s nature. I really enjoy the light in this image, everything subtle and you can see a lot of individual tones in the layers of glass and metals, and it almost doesn’t look like the same building.

The interior shots were very tricky, the college has a lot of opportunities for great photos but when spoiled for choice I wanted to get the most original shots possible to stand out. One thing I certainly wanted to include in these images were the students, lecturers and/or staff members. This is to convey that this building is vibrant, and filled with individuals that all play a role in the function of the buildings purpose. I thought getting a low angle shot from the top of the main stair case would achieve this as it is the busiest place for people and the leading lines that you can see with the balconies going all the way up is very interesting. I wish I spent a bit more time with this shot and waited for a better moment, although I think some people in this image convey my point, others just make it look busy, they are really standing/walking in positions. For my final interior shot I definitely wanted to get the City of Glasgow sign in, as in my view this is the most iconic aspect of the building and I knew the celling windows would give me a good view of it. Those windows can form excellent shadows at the right time, with the right weather and I wish I had come back again to see if could get anything better with that, but I do enjoy this image. I think the window gives the image more depth and the lines and grids make this photo a perfect fit with the others.

I enjoyed this project more than I thought I would and learned that taking photographs of buildings and architecture is a lot harder than I originally thought. If I were to do this again I’d definitely spend more time with the building and look for a lot more angles. I also think investing in a extremely wider fixed lens would be a good idea.
