Acab obviously but I’m literally such a cop when it comes to certain traffic violations like I’m always coming on here afterwards to complain like
#anyway driving with your brights on switching lanes without signaling driving drunk or texting and tailgating (having a gap of less than 3 s#*3 seconds between you and the car infront if you 4 if you’re going fast) are all death sentence crimes to me#anyway so coming back to work at night and I’m going down the highway at like 85 which like yeah. 30 miles above the speed limit but on the#occasions thay I go thay fast I only do it when there’s very little traffic and I know I can maintain 10seconda between me and the cat in fr#front#and I can see several hundred yards infront of me#so anyway 85 mph so like what business do you have tailgating me so close that I CANT EVEN SEE YOUR LIGHTS IN MY REARVIEW MIRROR??#ARE YOU STUPID???#so anyway I drop to the speed limit because 1) safety and 2) I love watching them get visibly pissed off#like you have no right to be pissed off#so cry and scream and wail all you want I’m not gonna go any faster#so I go down to the speed limit and this guy has the AUDACITY to blast his brights at me#as if I’m the one in the wrong here. please#also jokes on you if you were trying to blind me because yours soo close I can’t even see leds you’re trying to fry me with#die mad about it#.txt

Porcelain Steve - Part 2
Part One🦇Part Two🦇Part Three🦇Part Four🦇Part Five🦇Part Six🦇Part Seven🦇Part Eight🦇Part Nine
There's commotion from the house, loud enough for Eddie and Robin to hear it outside. Both turn towards the house, Robin halfway to standing up already, and the door is pushed open, El falling through it to get outside.
Someone calls El's name from inside, but she doesn't even turn around. She marches across the lawn to Eddie and Robin. "They are too loud and angry in there. Take me somewhere else."
Joyce makes it out the door next and with a raise of her hand behind her, one finger up, she stops everyone in the doorway. She descends the steps of the porch and Eddie is in awe about how much power she wields because no one follows after. Not even Dustin, who is the absolute worst at following orders.
"Whatever you need," Eddie answers El. He doesn't think she's blinked since exiting the house.
"We can go to Steve's," Robin offers. She's standing now and roots in a pocket of her jeans before pulling out a keychain with three keys on it. "Maybe it'll help being around all his stuff?"
"We can take my van," Eddie offers.
"That would be great," Joyce says, reaching out and grabbing one of El's hands in her own, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "Come on, let's get some shoes on."
"Thank you," El says, shooting Eddie a smile before her eyes drop down to look at Steve. A frown returns to her face before she turns and heads back into the house with Joyce.
Robin turns to Eddie, offering a hand to him. She's probably offering to pull him up, but he holds Steve out to her instead. He doesn't understand why she looks surprised at that, but she takes Steve, cradles him close to herself like he had done earlier.
Eddie climbs into his van, starting it and reaching over to turn the dial on the radio down so it's not blasting at the loud volume he keeps it on. Robin hovers with the passenger door open. "You getting in, Buckley?"
"Yeah, eventually. Just thinking if I should crawl in the back. Let Joyce and El have the seats?"
"Oh. Yeah. Probably."
She's absently petting Steve's hair, eyes slightly misty. He watches as she blinks away the tears before letting out a big sigh. "I just want to pass Steve off to whoever will be wearing a seatbelt. I've seen how you drive, Munson."
Eddie catches the teasing tone in her voice and laughs. "Fair. I'll take corners about 3 miles per hour slower than I normally do."
Robin laughs. "That's probably still ten above the speed limit."
"You should not speed," El's voice makes both Robin and Eddie jump. She's standing just behind Robin, and a quick look around shows Joyce on the porch, a worried look on her face but she makes no move to step off the porch.
"Is your mom coming?" Eddie asks. A complicated set of expressions crosses El's face and he's worried he might have asked the wrong thing somehow but then El answers.
"No. Just me. I will sit in the center," She slides past Robin and crawls up onto the bench seat of Eddie's van, scoots across the seat until she butts up against Eddie, and searches for the seatbelt before securing it.
"Here," Robin holds Steve out to El, who takes him, before Robin pulls herself into the van, shutting the door and buckling herself in.
Eddie doesn't go immediately because he's a bit busy watching El look at Steve. She's holding him like she's not sure how. She wraps one hand around an arm and his waist and uses the other to poke a porcelain cheek, right over the two moles just below his cheek bone. He can see the creases of a frown on her face.
"Are you okay, El?" Robin asks, which is good because he was about to, and he thinks his voice will come out more watery.
"I...," El looks up to Robin, then back down to Steve, "I do not know."
It hits Eddie like a freight truck just how young El is. He has to put the van in gear and drive to give his mind something to focus on or he's going to do something stupid, like bear hug El and ugly cry into her grown out buzzcut.
"Hey, that's okay," Robin says, "it's okay to not know how you're doing. This is a complicated situation."
"I barely know Steve," El says, which surprises Eddie. They all seem close, so much so that Eddie still feels like an intruder at times. Still, there is a tone to her voice that seems off to Eddie. "We do not have a reason to hang out. Not like everyone else. Lucas plays basketball with him. Dustin and Max claim him as their brother. Even Erica-"
El stops talking abruptly. Eddie glances towards her but she's staring down at Steve, so Eddie flicks his eyes to Robin, who is already looking at him and making an 'I don't' know' gesture with her hands before Eddie returns his eyes to the road.
"Mike does not care for Steve much," El continues suddenly, the tone still there and Eddie feels like he knows it, "I spent so much time with Mike that I think I did not care for Steve, either. Not on purpose. But- but in a way that you do not care about a thing because it is not important in your life?"
No one says anything else, because what can they say? Shortly after, Eddie pulls into the driveway of the Harrington residence behind Steve's Bimmer. "Alright ladies. Once more unto the breach!"
They crawl from the van and Robin unlocks the door. El and Eddie step through first. El moves into the house, clutching at Steve like he's her favorite stuffed toy. Robin freezes in the doorway, looks like she's not even breathing.
"Buckley?" Eddie is whispering and he doesn't know why.
"Sorry, sorry," Robin exhales a shaking breath. "It's just- Nancy and I- sorry. Uh, El, do you need us to do anything?"
She glides past Eddie to catch up to El and he is left to close the door. He wonders if, maybe, Robin should have also stayed at the Byers-Hopper home. It had been her and Nancy that had come to check in on Steve just this morning. It wasn't unusual to not hear from Steve sometimes (everyone needed their time to just be alone) but today must have marked Too Many Days for Robin because she'd called Nancy for a ride, and they'd found this. A locked house, Steve's car still here, and resting against the pillows of Steve's bed had been the porcelain replica. Nothing out of place, no ransom notes, nothing to make it seem like nefarious going ons had been taking place. Just the Harrington house, devoid of a flesh and blood Steve Harrington.
Coming back must be surreal.
"Eddie, you okay?"
"Oh, uh, yeah," Eddie startles a little. He'd been lost in his own head for a moment there.
"Can El have your bandana? She needs something to use as a blindfold."
"Yeah," Eddie moves through the house, to the living room where El has sat herself on the floor in front of the TV. Steve is lain in her lap, a mirror of the image Eddie must have made on the front lawn. He pulls the bandana from his pocket, folding it diagonally before offering it out to El.
She takes it, eyes flicking up to Eddie's. She looks sad. "Can you make the TV staticky?"
"On it."
Robin closes all the blinds and curtains, making the house a bit darker and Eddie gets the TV on, white noise filling the room.
They sit in that white noise for what feels like an eternity but when Eddie checks his watch, is actually about 22 minutes, before El suddenly yanks the makeshift blind fold off with a frustrated huff.
"It is not working!" She shouts.
Eddie looks to Robin, but she looks just as lost about all this as Eddie feels. Well. Eddie's always been good with kids. He'll make the attempt. "El, you said earlier you didn't know if you were okay. Maybe figuring that out will help? It can't be easy to get into the right headspace with other thoughts floating around. "
She looks down at Steve, then back to Eddie. Her eyes are wet. "I am scared."
Eddie nods, "me too. This is scary."
"I am scared I will not find him," she says, then drops her voice to a whisper to continue, "but I am more scared that I will."
He really wishes Joyce would have come with. Or Hopper, Jonathan, Will, anyone who actually knows El. He thinks she need a kind of comfort he and Robin cannot provide. "Well, El, what's the part that's really scary?"
She's quiet for a long time. "Steve has never needed saving before. Not by me. What if I can't?"
"Oh El, it's not on you to save him," Robin says, sliding off the couch to be on the floor with them. She must have more information than Eddie about why El would say that, which makes since, because Robin was part of the conversation when they'd decided to have El try and reach out to Steve. "It's not fair that it's only you that can do this, but we didn't ask expecting you to fix it. That's not the pressure we meant to put on you. All we want is a confirmation. And if you can't, that's okay, too. That'll be okay."
El frowns, bottom lip quivering before she reaches down and picks up Steve, shoving him into Eddie's arms before she launches herself at Robin, arms around her neck and burying her face into Robin's neck. Robin looks startled, eyes wide going to Eddie. He pulls Steve to his neck, in an imitation of the position El is in, then hugs him with one arm and uses his other hand to pet at Steve's hair, trying to make meaningful eyes contact with Robin. She gets with the program, hugging El and petting the back of her head.
"Hey, hey, it's okay. You want us to call Joyce or Hopper over?" Robin soothes, her body now gently rocking with El in her lap.
There's a muffled, quiet 'no' from El but that's it. She doesn't say anything else, or move, for a couple minutes.
El pulls back finally, away from Robin to sit up straight. "Okay. I am ready again. Please hand me Steve."
He does, belatedly realizing he was still cuddling and petting Steve. Oh. He really hopes that if Steve is the doll, that he doesn't have any sort of touch receptors going on. That'll be embarrassing.
Steve settled in her lap again, blindfold back on, El tries again.
It takes about two minutes before Eddie watches a bit of blood trickle out of her nose. He shoots a worried look to Robin before lifting a hand, intent on reaching out to El, but before he fully extends his arm, Robin stops him with a shake of her head.
Another eternity passes before El gasps and pulls the blindfold off.
"What happened? Did you find him?" Robin asks.
El looks from Robin to Eddie, then down to Steve, then back up to Eddie, a small smile on her face. "Yeah. He wants me to tell you 'thank you, for taking the time to explain because Dustin never does.' He said you would know what he was talking about?"
"Holy shit." He and Robin say it at the same time. Robin scrabbles over the couch, rather than around it, and dashes out of sight. Eddie doesn't think he could make his legs work if he wanted to. Steve can hear them. (Ha Dustin!)
El deposits Steve into Eddie's arms. "It is him. He does not know what happened, either. He can hear and see. He appreciates that you did not let the sun blind him."
"El, you are the most amazing person I've ever met," Eddie says and watches the grin grow on El's face. "Alright. Well, the first step to a solution is knowing and now we know."
Robin pops back into view behind the couch, "everyone is on their way here now. I tried to tell Will we'd go back to them, 'cause y'know, less people and cars to worry about but I guess they want the base of operations to be here. How mad do you think Steve would be if I got copies of my key made for everyone?"
"I can ask him," El offers.
"Nah," Eddie grins, "it's always better to ask forgiveness than permission. And you'll forgive us, won't you, Stevie?"
Steve, of course, does not answer, but it does settle something inside Eddie knowing that he hears the question.
Steve's a doll. They know that for sure. Now, they can find a solution.
#steddie#my fic#why am i like this guys??? ill get back to my other fics eventually#unfortunately this porcelain doll AU has consumed my little gremlin brain#anyway i LOVE the El&Steve sibling dynamic but i think El should get to have complicated feelings about steve first#porcelain steve#platonic soulmates

Would Cosmere Characters Drive the Speed Limit?
You know, if cars and speed limits existed for them. (Potentially necessary context: I am a USAmerican)
For a different but hilarious take on Stormlight Characters driving, please check out this @saffronique post, which I spent forever looking for because I vaguely remembered someone else doing a driving post and wanted to make sure I hadn't copied them! Anyway it's funny; go read it: https://www.tumblr.com/saffronique/719947907049127936/was-just-struck-by-the-overwhelming-urge-to-rate?source=share
But now for a much more limited question: just, do they go the speed limit?
1. Nale: Yes but also no
As Mr. Beholden-to-All-Laws-of-the-Realm, Nale would of course drive exactly the speed limit! Except that he would also go immediately to the local jurisdiction, get deputized or whatever, and then obtain permission to speed all the time so as to Apprehend Criminals. So he'd actually be almost exclusively speeding but, like, legally.
2. Vivenna: Only at first
Vivenna does drive the speed limit when she first gets her license, because she wants to Follow the Law and be a Good Example for Siri. But, like, everyone is always so mad, and eventually she starts going just like 5 miles over the speed limit, which isn't even breaking the law, really. It's going with traffic! And then maybe 10 miles over, just occasionally 15 but only on a highway when it's safe!
3. Siri: No
Like, going a bit faster is not a big deal, especially if all the other cars are doing the same thing. It's actually safer to go with the flow of traffic!
4. Elend: Depends on who's in the car
Elend drives moderately above the speed limit like most people except if his dad is in the car and then he drives under the speed limit just to piss him off.
5. Vin: No
Vroom, vroom to be honest. Vin doesn't do things slow.
6. Dalinar: Yes
As a young man, Dalinar's speed demon ways led to the deaths of many people. So now he does drive the speed limit and insists that his sons do as well, whether they're in company cars or not.
7. Kelsier: No
Kelsier? Follow a law? I don't think so. He taught Vin to drive, you know.
8. Adolin: Not anymore
When his dad was really into Car Laws, Adolin did drive the speed limit per his dad's instructions. But he's since loosened up a bit. He figures he needs to find his own way to drive!
9. Shallan: No
Shallan drives the speed she needs to drive. Veil definitely drives the fastest, and Radiant is most likely to follow the speed limit. But on average...not so much.
10. Navani: No
Adolin can still remember being in the car with his aunt for the first time and being SHOCKED that she speeds. (In my head this is related to Adolin being shocked when he sees Navani wearing a glove rather than a full sleeve. This may not make sense to anyone else but it feels right to me).
11. Moash: No
Moash always wants to get to his destination as fast as possible. Also I just can't imagine him trying to follow the speed limit.
12. Wax: Depends on the geographic location
Wax drives the speed limit in the Roughs but not in Polite Society (except in dense urban areas where he wishes to avoid, like, killing children).
13. Wayne: Does not have his driver's license
I feel this in my soul.
14. Lirin: Yes
I think Lirin would argue that "getting to your destination thirty seconds faster is no reason to speed and put everyone else on the road in danger! Drive safe - arrive safe! That's what matters!" And then he would go exactly one mile under the speed limit at all times while everyone behind him honks.
15. Kaladin: No
Kaladin spends three months driving very slowly after his dad shows him videos of horrific car crashes but eventually he just can't do it. He NEEDS to get there faster! People are DEPENDING on him! And he likes to feel the WIND in his HAIR as he cruises down the open highway!
(Kaladin and his dad cannot drive together.)

what does "bust a bravo" mean
smile
ok gang! lets learn about The National Airspace System! (referenced with AIM chapter 3 and PHAK chapter 17)
We'll start off easy with Uncontrolled Airspace! Class G or Golf airspace is Completely uncontrolled. Theres nobody there watching to maintain spacing or really anything, however you still have to maintain the minimum weather requirements for Visual Flight Rules.
Those rules are as follows, For Daytime flying less than 1200 feet Above Ground Level (hereby condensed to AGL), you must maintain 1 statute mile of visibility (think fog obscuring how far you can see) and remain clear of clouds. For Daytime Flying above 1200 AGL its 3 Statute miles of visibility, 1000 feet above clouds, 500 ft below, and 2000 feet horizontal. if its Night time flying below 1200ft AGL, its 3 statute miles, 1000ft above, 500ft below, and 2000ft horizontal around clouds. These numbers are very Very common, and will be condensed into the "3-152" Rule. Night time above 1200ft AGL is also the 4-152 rule.
NOW! Where IS class Golf airspace? Well, it starts from the surface all the way up to 1200 feet AGL. Sometimes its to 700ft AGL but we'll explain why that is when we get into Controlled Airspace.
so basically it looks like Such:
Next up: controlled Airspaces!
first one is class E or Echo, which stands for EVERYWHERE. Where is Echo? EVERYWHERE but uncontrolled, or other Defined airpspaces. Class Echo starts at 1201ft AGL, and goes alll the way up to 17,999ft MEAN SEA LEVEL. Mean sea level (or MSL) is the height above where the ocean Approximately is. So if you're 0ft MSL, you're basically swimming. All (most.) aircraft Altimeters (the instruments that tell you how high you are) are calibrated to what the air pressure outside is at mean sea level and indicate how high they are compared to where MSL is.
Back to Class E airspace. E goes up to 17,999ft MSL, because at 18,000ft it changes to a different airspace, which we will get to in a moment. So, Class E is Controlled airspace, but that doesnt mean you have to be talking to people to fly in it. in fact, most people flying in class E arent actually talking to air traffic control! most of the time they're flying around Visually, under Visual Flight Rules, which means "i can see outside and where im going, and i can navigate this way."
so how do you fly in E under Visual flight rules? well, by flying in it. but they do have to have weather minima above the 3-152 Rule. Except over 10,000 ft, which is when it changes to 5-111. 5 Statute Miles visibility, 1000 feet above, 1000 feet below, 1 mile horizontal.
Class E also has Speed regulations! anywhere under 10,000ft is limited to 250 Knots (nautical mile per hour) and above 10,000 its just. mach 1. you cant break the speed of sound. FUN!
in some specific areas, (most of the time over airports) the Class E airspace is Lowered, to allow the controlled airspace to be closer to an uncontrolled airport. This is visualized on a VFR sectional chart as a shaded magenta area, kinda looking like a circle. This lowering is done for Instrument Flight Rules purposes, but im not an Instrument flight instructor so i cant teach on that yet. sorry.
so basically, E looks like This:
Next up is the Fun ones!
Class Delta airspace is usually surrounding a 5 statute mile radius around a Towered airport, from the Surface to 2500ft AGL. Some airports don't have towers, which places them in Uncontrolled airpspace, aka Class Golf! you can just take off and land however you want! on towered fields however, you have to maintain two way radio communication with the controlling agency of the field. you're flying around, 10 miles out you go "Gateway Tower, Skyhawk N123AV, 10 miles to the south, full stop" and they reply "Skyhawk 3AV, enter left base runway 9." once you hear your callsign "skyhawk 3AV" you know you're allowed into the airspace, unless given specific instruction otherwise.
Class Delta has the same 3-152 rule for VFR. and is depicted on a sectional chart as a dotted blue circle around an airport.
it looks as Such:
Next up, is class Charlie, or C.
Charlie is a lot bigger, think your local international airport. Nashville, Tucson, Oklahoma city, Little Rock. These are Big airports, but not like. HUGE. not like atlanta or JFK or LA. those are their own catagory which we will get to.
Class C is defined as a 5 mile radius from surface up to 4000 ft AGL! a lot taller! But, theres a catch~ theres an outer circle, with a 10 mile radius, from 1200ft agl to 4000ft agl. think an upside down wedding cake with tiers. they can change around to have more than just 2 different sections but most class C's look like this.
VFR is 3-152, and you must have 2 way communication to enter their airspace. however, because this airspace is so much bigger, they usually have an Approach controller, who you contact before getting close to the tower. they have different controllers to contact for different directions you're coming from. Fun! you also need to have a Mode C transponder. this is a device that sends information to ATC's Radar, giving Altitude information and a dot of where you are on their little map.
They're Depicted on a sectional chart as solid magenta lines, as opposed to shaded magenta lines
Class Charlies:
Finally. we get to answer Anon's BURNING QUESTION: what is "busting a bravo?"
well, we must talk about Bravo airspace. B, stands for BIG. not really, but like, these airspaces are extremely complex, absolutely massive, and are routed specifically for the airport and its arrivals, departures, and approaches. they're highly customizable and very fun to deal with! (lie)
these are your Pheonix sky harbors, your JFK's, your LA's, your San Diegos, your Atlantas. Massive Airports with EXTREMELY high traffic, and airports very close by.
For class bravos, you only have to be 1 statute mile of visibility, and clear of clouds, day or night, to operate VFR. but what are the chances you're operating vfr in a bravo anyways? not very high. still need to know that for a checkride, though. theres also a 30nm ring surrounding them, which requires a Mode C transponder inside of that "mode C veil"
Class bravos are signifigantly more strict on whos allowed to fly into them. before, in D or C, you just needed to hear your callsign and be able to enter, otherwise you'd be busting through their airspace. However, with class Bravo? you have to be Cleared into the bravo. they have to say "Skyhawk N123AV, you are Cleared into the class bravo airspace" before you're allowed in. otherwise, they WILL call your ass over the radio and go "skyhawk N123AV, were you cleared into my airspace?" "skyhawk n123av, no." "alright, skyhawk N123AV, i have a number for you to call when youre on the ground, advice ready to copy" which indicates you are FUCKED. you have to call and explain why you were in that airspace when you were not supposed to be. this is a very very bad thing and Not something you want on your record.
But!!!! if you're busting that airspace as a student, your CFI is at fault, because they're the one supposed to be seeing and avoiding, and preventing you from breaking airspace you shouldn't be.
anyways, Bravos are depicted as solid blue lines on a sectional chart, and "look like this":
woof! thats a lot! and every airspace we gotta think about!
hm? whats that? i forgot one?
oh right! above 17,999ft! thats right! well, thats Class Alpha airspace! its the most controlled and restricted airspace, because you CANNOT operate under visual flight rules in there. at all! you must be under Instrument Flight Rules to fly in class Alpha airspace. once you pass 17,999, you enter the "Flight Levels" which are indicated as FL180, and go all the way up to FL600, or 60,000 ft. thats, really high up. Nobody goes up there, except the SR-71 blackbird. You really dont ahve to think about class A until you get to your Instrument rating, which im not qualified to teach, so. scram.
if you have ANY questions or think i missed something, feel free to correct me, i dont know everything. once again i referenced AIM chapter 3 and PHAK chapter 17 for all of this information.

Some St. Jude photos - racing and others.
The Riverwalk was just stunning.
The stained glass window is in the Gunter… unfortunately I couldn’t visit that hotel because it’s undergoing a MASSIVE renovation after a pipe busted in April.
The Majestic and wreaths are part of the race course itself along with the 10K sign. I have a few more architectural designs as well.
Of course - the Alamo. We didn’t visit due to time constraints and a military ceremony (maybe change of command), but it was nice to see.
The state is doing a large scale project to bring it closer to the days of the seige there. It won’t be 100% accurate however - the territory of the entire fort would take part of the Riverwalk (it is manmade).
Would’ve loved to tour the fire station museum on the walk. Top right corner you see a “Fire Captain” waving.
The last is the Henry B. Gonzalez convention center. Above it is the Tower of The Americas.
The tower was built for the Hemisfair event back in 1968.
Mom went to it back then - it was a big thing apparently, and one can go up the tower in the elevator even today. There’s a restaurant at the top. It was lit up too for Christmas but I didn’t get a good photo day one and the last two had rain fog.
••••••
Now, for the post race thoughts.
I’m definitely looking forward to Memphis next year.
Already signed up for the 10K (the next day in fact as they did early registration)
I’d love to return to the half (13.1 miles over 6.4 in the 10K), but my current pacing is not fast enough to stay under the 4 hour, 20 min. limit.
This is regardless of me speeding up 5 minutes the second half of the 10K this year… my average 3/4 rate in the half is 19 mins/mile walking, even my best time (3:21.19 if interested).
I enjoyed the trip to SA more than the race (though I did have fun seeing a new course), and the Riverwalk at Christmas is something mom has been dreaming of doing for years.
But truthfully - racing for St. Jude is more impactful if you’re actually there in Memphis racing. It’s very hard to describe unless you’re there the crowds cheering you on - Hero or not.
I’m just saying it was also night and day on RnR how you were treated between the Saturday race we did and Sunday racers. RnR felt elitist based on your event… all I’m saying.
The St. Jude staff there at RnR however were wonderful, and were happy to see the handful of us there. The VIP meal we ate as a hero Sunday was also very good.
Still - I missed some traditions like getting dessert at The Peabody (and seeing the ducks and gingerbread village), going to Dyer’s in Colliersville and Corky’s barbecue.
Missed volunteering too, though I’ll likely still do that one day next year (probably pasta party if not shirt handout… they’ve modified bronze level to be eligible for a pasta party ticket again).
Says enough as I’m picturing Memphis last year more in my head than this year… so I’ll just say mom and I are happy to be back, and I’m hoping I brought Memphis a new runner.
Hope you enjoy photos of my one and will be only as they’ve cancelled their event in the future - RnR San Antonio 10K event.

‘The SR-71 limiting speed as configured would be about Mach 3.55 so long as you don’t exceed 427C.’ Former Blackbird pilot gives some interesting details about SR-71 top speed.
By Linda Sheffield Miller

Today there are many rumors about just how fast the SR-71 could go. The speed limit for the Blackbird ironically had nothing to do with the airframe; it had to do with the engines.
The SR-71, unofficially known as the “Blackbird,” is a long-range, advanced, strategic reconnaissance aircraft developed from the Lockheed A-12 and YF-12A aircraft. The first flight of an SR-71 took place on Dec. 22, 1964, and the first SR-71 to enter service was delivered to the 4200th (later 9th) Strategic Reconnaissance Wing at Beale Air Force Base (AFB), Calif., in January 1966.
The US Air Force (USAF) retired its fleet of SR-71s on Jan. 26, 1990, because of a decreasing defense budget and high costs of operation.
Throughout its nearly 24-year career, the SR-71 remained the world’s highest-flying and fastest operational aircraft. From 80,000 feet, it could survey 100,000 square miles of Earth’s surface per hour.
Today there are many rumors about just how fast the SR-71 could go. The J58 engine temperature limited the top speed. The speed limit for the airplane ironically had nothing to do with the airframe; it had to do with the engines. Right in front of the engine compressor was a temperature probe that reported the temperature to the pilot; when the temperature was around 427C, 800 degrees Fahrenheit, that’s as fast as they were allowed to go.
David Peters, former SR-71 Blackbird pilot, explained to me;
‘A little clarification on the speed thing. You are absolutely correct on the 427C. The issue is that I have been limited to less than Mach 3 on a few occasions because the outside air temperature was quite above standard and 427C came up at about 2.95. On other occasions like the Murmansk deal I got above 3.4 (3.49 on the one occasion) and wasn’t close to 427C. The actual limiting airspeed is around 3.55 that is where the spike being at full retraction loses the intercept on the shock wave and can no longer position it correctly in the inlet. Also the overflow of the shock starts to go over the wing and interfere with the flight controls. So the limiting speed as configured would be about 3.55 so long as you don’t exceed 427C.’

Mike Relja, who worked on in with the SR-71‘s for over 30 years, added;
‘I don’t know of any warranty that P&W had or any other parts manufacturer for that matter. On the March 6th [Mar. 6, 1990] speed run Ed Yeilding stated that Don Emmons gave them permission to fly the max limit of 3.3 M, they asked Lockheed if they could exceed that number and Lockheed said no if the aircraft had an unstart above 3.3 it may go out of control and come apart hard to keep the pointy end forward. Also no fuel flow limits established above 3.3 M were ever tested.
‘P&W did give them clearance to exceed 427 CIT for 30 minutes to a limit of 450 CIT but that wasn’t needed they stayed at the book limit of 427 CIT.’
The engines maker Pratt & Whitney would not warrant or guarantee anything beyond 427; after that, all bets are off the engine could come unglued or you could shed turbine blades. The SR-71 crewmembers were too responsible to risk and exceeded the temperature limit. They wanted to keep the warranty on the engines, the J58’s.

My dad got up at 4am because his job was in the nearest large city and it took 2 hours to get there, not including the 15-30min+ drive to the train station, if he was lucky and it wasn't blizzarding. He frequently didn't get home until 8pm or later. Yes, it was his choice, but it was because his job basically didn't exist any closer to where we lived. It was one of those things that relies on the economy of a city. So why didn't we just live in the city or the suburbs? Because he and my mum were trying to get out of city life, but it paid way more than any job he was likely to get where we lived, so that was the compromise they made.
My local school was at the other end of town, and I did walk. But high school? That was 7 miles away. Once I reached the village limits (yes, it was literally a village), it was rural roads surrounded by farmland. No sidewalks, no streetlights. The speed limit was 55, but one of the roads was infamous for speeding anywhere from 10-30 mph above that. It was also a place that had frequent, significant winter storms and not enough traffic on the roads for plows to make them fully safe to drive, much less walk. When it was dark, it was near pitch-black and impossible to see anyone on the side of the road, sometimes even with reflective gear.
There was exactly one schoolbus that came to pick us up. If you missed that bus, you either 1) walked to school, which no one was going to do for the above reasons; 2) hope like hell someone could drive you, or 3) just not go to school that day. Guess how many times Option 3 was my only option?
Way more of America is like this than people think. No one's running busses or trains. In fact, my village had local train transit, but it moved out in the '50s when the rail companies decided it was too expensive for not enough people, and it became freight-only. So the village actually had the capability for passenger rail growing up, but we weren't considered a viable option anymore. Not everyone wants to or should have to live in suburbs or cities.
The "large" town in my area had fewer than 10,000 residents. There was one elementary, middle, and high school each. If you lived on the other side of town, you weren't walking because it was just too far. You're going to force a nine-year-old to walk three miles (one way) on a county highway with no sidewalks or streetlights in the dead of winter when it gets dark at 4:30 in the afternoon with temps often below 0°F, all so no one calls your kid a "lazy American?" It's a ten-minute car-ride, absolutely no one is going to make their kid do that.
What are disabled kids and adults supposed to do, or seniors?
Your experiences are not universal, and may not even be the majority.
“America IS walkable, you’re all just lazy” my childhood home was an hour from the nearest hospital (by car)

Find the word tag
Today's words come from the lovely @i-can-even-burn-salad a long time ago -- thanks! Looking for bold, bare, bright, better in Invisible Girl <3
Bold:
Velia decided not to ask. She on the cot she’d been occupying and took the napkin Antonio handed her. He’d changed while she was out, into a clean white shirt and black vest. He’d even combed his hair. The picnic basket, it was revealed, was full to the brim with sandwiches, each wrapped in opaque white deli paper. “I asked for a mixed lot,” Antonio announced. “And I can’t tell what’s what now. You’re going to have to be bold.”
Bare:
“It’s Antonio West,” she called. “He’s probably gotten himself into eight scrapes since we last saw him.” The words had barely left her mouth when two gunshots pierced through the rumble of the tracks. Velia leaned out as far as she could and still could only make out the upper sides of several silhouettes above her.
Bright:
The dining car was bright and crowded at the early hour, the clink of cutlery a gentle murmur underneath soft conversation. Waiters in black and white whisked past with trays, expertly navigating the small rolls and bumps of the California Limited as she rumbled along.
Better:
“A modern engine,” Antonio proclaimed, but only for Lewis’s benefit. “Less pollution, less work, longer miles, better speed. Can you imagine?” “I can imagine,” Lewis said dully. “How many men are going to be out of work because of it. How many jobs will grow obsolete. And that’s before you factor in safety. Machines that work faster don’t always work better.”
I'll toss tags gently to @leahnardo-da-veggie @rhikasa @chauceryfairytales @sleepyowlwrites @mary-is-writing and anyone else that sees this💗
Your new words: proof, skull, scare, and ankle!

Cars like the one Mike Pike had can we made into a kit car and not too much money most of them have like 70,000 miles on them and they treat them nice drive around and people think it's nice it's a Corvette and they're fast they go about 250 to 280 and they can handle it sorta well the hardtop and it's not really that fast and most of them are 250 or 2:30 but her son and daughter are correct if you got a kit car like the Nova Sterling but modernized and it looks really radical it's awesome it's a different car than the Pantera it looks very different but it looks massively cool as a supercar with just a few things changed and we would change more it would be almost number one I mean that thing would be fast it's about the same length and with and of course you wide body it without a kit you would build it that way. The statistics are nice the prices are nice.
Original Corvette 1995 to 2007 used price range 12,000 to 24,000 in good condition with 60,000 or less miles. Or you could use an original Corvette 1992 to 2007 with 60,000 to 100,000 MI and that would be about 8,000 to 15,000 for the donor car and you could rebuild some things that it would work better cost money and all this does but it will be recommended you'd have to rebuild the engine and the transmission and the differential for probably $8,000 so it's not worth it if you can find another Corvette. As it goes this is not that much money by comparison but it's not necessary as we have proven however the chassis is very strong and you do need that if you're going above 300 mph.
**the standard 350 Corvette motor in a modernized sterling Nova 0 to 60 2.5 seconds, quarter mile and roughly 4.9 seconds, top speed 780 miles per hour plus. If you put in the exhaust and top end and super cooling top speed is 950 mph
*a kit for the modernized Nova Sterling would be approximately $20,000 if you include the tires and rims and some upgrades to the suspension without the high performance engine and exhaust that's about $3,000 that's a pricey kit and our son is talking about a cheap one and we can look at that again
FORD FIESTA/BRADLEY GT1 which is really grullon x8 and he's got the name of someone right but that's what it is if we made it and made it with our inside and outside fiberglass technique with a bowl together roll cage and we think that we could make it in the outside and inside in two pieces each so you have four pieces and they would fit inside each other and create the whole thing in a very small crate. Once again this is ingenuity.
1997 TO 2018 FORD FIESTA/ Bradley GT1
The Ford fiesta donor car with 70,000 miles or less in good condition would range from $3,000 to $5,000 if the body had damage it would be 2,000 to $5,000 yes and that's with the 220 horsepower motor
With the kit that we would design these stats would be 0 to 60 and 3.9 seconds quarter mile in 6.5 seconds top speed 380 mph and we would provide everything you need suspension upgrades tires and rims interior including a steering wheel the firewall would remain the gauges and everything would be replaced seats everything would be placed on the interior would be replaced the engine and drivetrain remain where they are the exhaust would be new and the reburner system and so forth would be kept but you would have a new type of Cadillac converter these are things that would make it work there's a couple other items it would be fuel efficient the current fiesta gets about 27 miles to the gallon on the highway and 20 in the city the Bradley GT1 of ours and we'd have to redesign it would get approximately 40 miles to the gallon on the highway and 29 in the city with 2-150 lb people. The storage in a Ford fiesta is very limited you have back seats and they don't go down you can store there about 4 cubic feet and in the back it's a hatchback it is very small and upsetting to a lot of people it's it's like one foot wide I mean one foot deep and 3 ft wide and 2 ft high so it's six cubic feet plus about 5 so 11 cubic feet it's horrible so you have to take the passengers into account or just regular things you toss back there of minor significance and it's not really worth talking about it so damn small it's really only a couple it's teeny so we got that out there now think about it that this is probably going to be driving around as a supercar it is front wheel drive from front wheel drive you have we have this arrangement with the car where it can handle very well it's the design and the design is to save lives and it works it hails in the snow it handles in muck and floods and who would have shocks in it later that increase its clearance and it's for speed bumps and things with super cars it's a wonderful idea. This car would look like the GTX 8 that we've been posting that uses the Corvette chassis and with 220 horsepower stock the new exhaust gives it about 15 horsepower boost it has 235 horsepower it goes very fast as we have said above you cannot beat it this car would be unstoppable and you at all shut your mouth about a son because he did it with the Bradley gt-1 before and we might pick a new name it's kind of obnoxious name and you guys would bark and all that stuff but really the name is important he says we should bring it back and that's what the retarded people want to do but it doesn't sound like there future plan and people would think it's now and they are seeing that it's true and it is pretty smart and it would be motivational. And the design would be similar to the ghrelin but really and it would be necessary to change if we did mention a few things the front end is far too low and with front-wheel drive you can't have that scoop it's terrible and we would be able to do it the way we want and it would be lower the front end is not long enough or any type of vehicle and we wouldn't make it too much longer just a little bit probably 4 in and make it less looking like an Indy car because they're not supposed to be on the street we like the doors that's a great idea and the windows are okay just look like normal windows and BG keeps doing that and how the doors open and stuff he says scissor doors they can't do it without it's not true and they do open like scissor doors.
All in all this kit would be inexpensive glass carbon and plastic and it's really kind of high-tech but people would say the components are simple and it's got plastic like a Saturn and they push on it and it wouldn't give and then it hit it with something like a sledgehammer and it would bounce a little and they think it's not really suitable for high speed but you're hitting it with a sledgehammer okay you hit the concrete and it's going to dimple if you hit carbon fiber on a supercar with the sledgehammer it will shatter get to 100 pieces and crack it and you have a spider crap and it would break the panel maybe so you don't know what you're talking about at all and although at speed you can't have it Ripley of course it's an illusion but most of you don't think so and you do your rude mouth to say that dumb line and we don't like you for it now my son is trying to use his smarts to make his dinner and it looks nice it smells nice and it will be nice and people make fun of him for using things that work and you're obnoxiously stupid I can't wait until you start falling that you should and that's coming up pretty quick to make a long story short we know that you don't deserve this car that you're lousy rebels and we don't know okay now they're trying to take over they suck at it very badly by the way I haven't heard of them gaining anything almost ever from the empire at all so he can rejoice at that and say you're the greatest and junk like that but it doesn't get you anywhere and it doesn't do anything his other things happening and you have to be aware that hey you know you're on probation and we don't like you our son is going to get cable but he wants to talk about this car and he has excellent tenacity and one of the reasons why he wants it made if so he can drive it around and his brother did it too to have his poor brother that's our son who probably will have nothing to have a little fun and not go nuts with it but really he wanted him to have some money too and the guy was trying to help him and he said to him I'm helping regardless and I see them blocking and I get it she's checking and he says I really actually that way and they just want to keep me here for now I guess and he said that's actually what I need to know this car
BRADLEY GT1 / FORD FIESTA 220
Starting price for the kit which includes everything is $4,500
Add to the price $2,200 for our rims and tires
Add to the price high performance exhaust $1,300
Add to the price high performance top end $2,300
Then that's about it the total kit we did our son would buy would be $6,700 around there and the donor car probably $5,000 so he has a supercar for $12,000 and he would go around and tell people give people rides that he knows Justin can maybe even Preston can you say let's go to the grocery store then.
The cubic foot storage space in the trunk which people are trying to have us not tell it would be about 10 cubic feet and yeah you can fit a lot in there our son's refrigerator is inside is about 9 cubic feet the whole thing the refrigerator and freezer combined and it's pretty big you can fit a family of four groceries for a week in it for our son for 3 weeks honest to goodness he eats a lot but 3 weeks is pretty good and it's kind of going to work out to that we want this car to work and we want to build it we want to help design it we want someone to come forwards there's no real reason to make a car at a one piece even in fiberglass and it performs better as separate pieces because it won't crack and stuff that weird places and all the super cars are made with panels so he wanted us to do that and we know how and we want you to buy it in pieces and the interior would be three pieces plus a tub for the trunk made out of metal we would have reinforcing and some panels of metal for the interior and the new dashboard new controls and new gauges everything but boy the panel idea is even better and it can fit in a much smaller box the front and rear together would be around 10 ft long and 8 ft wide or 7 ft wide roughly 7 ft 5 in or so it's very tight but when you put it in panels it's probably going to be 5 x 7 ft 6 in and that's a lot smaller by the way and you can fit a whole bunch of those into a truck probably 20 and you bring them to the distributor and what our sun was saying is we can bring parts to the distributors and just keep up filling up their bins and the shell too it's kind of a headache but he says it'll be big distributors that's really the way to do it because we can get parts locally from local suppliers they're all aftermarket all over the place and just keep filling it up and it would sell like madness for the Ford fiesta and similar but he wants to do the Ford fiesta and he's saying it because nobody wants to do the Ken car except for Hera and us it's a wonderful idea it would save a lot of people but the morlock or pleasantly suicidal almost completely lots of them some of them are and they're disgusted and in fear and they have they have hatred and they should and it's upsetting for them to hear them in such a state of mind that they cannot communicate with them about much we do feel bad for them a little not a ton but really there helping our son and we're doing what we can and he says why can't the woman get together and make a factory no they don't they don't really have to what they would like what they could do is try and make a prototype and try and sell it the concept the idea the donor car and more because you can't fit four people in there the car just won't move and if you fill the trunk up it still will move because the frame is lighter the roll cage and slider and interior is lighter and you have a big tub and you can fill it up with stuff hagen-dazs and things like that but seriously folks this is a wonderful idea we're going to ask some ladies if they want help designing it and the men will take the design and possibly use it because they're lazy and won't and don't want to sit down and design it and I don't think you did it for the trunk and they'll say we have better junk for our trunk and stuff like that they've already been talking about so I'm glad we sat down and talked about this the idea of a woman doing it is great and he says it's probably from Hera but I don't know wouldn't know but she's smiling so yeah it might be her we're going ahead right now
Thor Freya
Yeah we're going ahead and printing
Hera
I'm all for doing this we have to get this going it's a great idea it might work on a lot of other stuff

I just read part 3 of We own the sky, these were some of my favorite parts!
“Shit, it’s close,” he breathed, voice barely above a whisper. For a split second, he wondered if this was the most foolish decision he’d ever made. He wasn’t thinking about himself. He was thinking about you. If anything happened to you, he’d never forgive himself. 😭😭😭😭
You were so engrossed in the moment you didn’t even stop to let it register that you had finally faced your biggest fear.
But Rhett saw it. He spared you a glance as he drove, and he saw not fear, but wonder in your eyes. For a moment, he was transported back to all those times you chased together. The excitement and adrenaline you shared. Nothing could top that.
Despite the danger that was quite literally hurtling toward you both as he drove, he couldn’t help the smile that spread across his face. Oh, how he’d missed this.
He wouldn’t admit it to anyone else, but during that drive home, he did travel quite a few miles under the speed limit, just to lengthen the tender moment. He was committing it to memory, every last second, because that was one thing he hadn’t done when you were together before.
He hadn’t lived in the moment as much as he should have. And when you left, that was one of his biggest regrets. Now that he’d been given an opportunity to make up for lost time, he wasn’t going to squander a single moment of it.
I love this cowboy so much!! He deserves the world!!!!
He was so beautiful like this. Comfortable. At ease in his home, with his family. A life you had once dreamed of living with him. And now, you supposed it had become a dream of yours once more.
You could see yourself in the future. A quaint little home, just the two of you. A simple, happy life.
There’s something about simple and domestic things that makes me tear up 🥹🥹
Here and now, curled up on the couch with you snuggled against his side, he was overcome with a surge of protectiveness. There was no doubt in his mind that he would do whatever he had to, just to keep you safe.
PROTECTIVE RHETT MAKES MY BRAIN GO BRRRRRRR 😵💫😵💫😵💫
I passed out at these parts 🫠🫠🫠
“Wan’ see this sweet li’l pussy. Will you let me see her, darlin’?”
“You gon’ let me make love to you, baby?”
Them both getting emotional when making love and rhett cumming when the reader says I love you 🤧🤧
As the afterglow settled in, Rhett lifted his head and offered a sheepish smile. “Was that alright, honeybee?” The tips of his ears went pink.
rhett being sheepish after he gave the reader so much pleasure they cried is just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Did’ya ever think we’d end up like this?” Rhett spoke into the comfortable silence of the room.
You hummed. “Before I came back, I didn’t.”
His fingers stilled against your back. “When did it change for you?”
“The night of the rodeo,” came your reply.
“For me, it was the first time I saw you after you came back. Brought all these feelin’s back that I tried to ignore. But then I held ya when you jumped outta the truck durin’ that twister. And then I, uh, saw you when you ran out the bathroom to grab a towel.” Mirth was in his tone as he said the last part.
You couldn’t help but smile. “God, I was so embarrassed about that,” you admitted.
“S’alright. Nothin’ to be embarrassed about.” He resumed the gentle patterns against your back with his fingers. “I sure am glad I got to see ya naked again, though.”
You lifted your head and slapped his chest lightly. “Hey now,” you scolded, humorously so.
Picturing rhett trying to ignore his feelings for so many years made my heart ache 😪 the teasing about when he saw reader trying to grab a towel was very cute! I love how they are playful with each other, it was such a sweet moment
Thank you for tagging me!!! 🩷🩷🩷

Solo Traveler's Paradise: Biking Through Manali's Scenic Landscapes
Howdy solo travellers. Planning some long-distance adventures in Manali but not sure where to start? Take it from me, a seasoned solo explorer - with the right preparation, Manali is a paradise for epic road trips and a mix of bike on rent in Manali. Let me walk you through my tips for safe, smooth, and unforgettable long-distance travel around Manali on two wheels. This blog can be a life changer for you if you take the given advice seriously.
1. Choose the place and two-wheeler
First up - choose your noble steed! There’s no shortage of bike on rent in Manali for every type of traveller. For long days in the saddle, a powerful Royal Enfield is tough to beat. That thumping engine can devour miles while holding your gear. Just be ready for the weight at low speeds.
If you prefer more agile handling, a smaller bike rental in Manali like a Bullet is great for winding mountain roads. Or try a Jupiter scooter - effortless cruising with automatic transmission. Test drive a few options to see what feels best. And don't overlook safety features like tubeless tires and disc brakes. Absolutely essential in the hills.
2. Plan the route
Got your ride sorted? Time to plan your route. Manali offers endless long-distance possibilities, but here are my top solo picks. For an epic multi-day journey, head north crossing Rohtang Pass to the raw Lahaul and Spiti Valley. Camp under the stars, see majestic monasteries, and soak in hidden hot springs. Just be prepared for serious altitude!
If you prefer gentler landscapes, ride south through the lush Kullu Valley. Follow the Beas River past forested hills and fruit orchards to the town of Mandi. Then continue towards the Great Himalayan National Park for wildlife spotting. You can cover a lot of ground in a few days.
No matter which direction, build in plenty of stops. Part of the magic of long-distance travel is slowing down to appreciate your surroundings. Make time for hiking detours, chatting with locals, and exploring offbeat villages. Let the road unfold rather than rushing to destinations.
Packing the right gear is also key for solo trips. Tools, spare tubes, first aid, and rain protection are absolute musts. I always bring camping equipment too so I can sleep anywhere. A sturdy phone charger and offline maps help avoid getting stranded. And snacks are life savers when your stomach starts growling.
3. Keep all the essential
Make sure your Manali bike rental comes with essentials like saddlebags, mirrors, and phone mounts. Having your gear secured and navigation setup ahead of time is one less thing to stress over. And never skip the safety essentials - helmets, protective clothing, and lights to keep you visible. Safety first, always.
Speaking of safety, it pays to prepare for the unexpected on the road. Learn basic bike repairs before heading out. Memorize important Hindi phrases. Pin local emergency contacts. And keep your travel insurance card handy, just in case. Being a responsible solo biker means planning for problems.
Above all, listen to your gut during long rides. If conditions seem risky, pull over. If you're tired or uneasy about a stretch, find a place to stop and recover. Don't push past your limits just to cover more ground. You want to arrive safely so you can enjoy more adventures ahead!
Finally, don't forget to capture your journey along the way. Photos at mountain passes and village tea stops will be priceless memories later. And share your experiences with loved ones when possible so they can track your epic progress.
Conclusion
Alright, my friend, those are my best tips for smooth long-distance biking around Manali. You can get a bike rental in Manali from Rentnhop and then you can start your journey. Just take it slow and steady, savor the beauty, and you'll have a trip of a lifetime. Let me know if any other questions come up. Happy trails - go make your solo rider dreams a reality in this mountain paradise.

Oh my! You have activated my trap card special interest! prepare for information!
So the main portion of this question comes down to just how much monotony the games cut out so the players stay engaged. Most video games cut out things that might bog down the player's experience, like travel time, the need to eat, drink, and sleep, recovery time from injuries, and other such things. In reality that's going to be what takes up a majority of Link's adventures. idk if i'm going to go through every game, but I'll give my general overview on the Links.
Ocarina of Time: We all know the time for this game is approximately 7 years due to Link's heroic power nap, but I'd hazard a guess that it'd take a lot longer for one reason: Hyrule Field is HUGE. Because it's a game, Link is always running/rolling to get places faster so the player doesn't lose their mind, but in universe constantly running like that would be EXHAUSTING. Especially since he has so much equipment on him! He would NOT be running constantly from place to place unless he wanted to be utterly exhausted. The map for Ocarina of Time feels huge if you just try to walk it (trust me I've tried), and trekking across that dang field is a NIGHTMARE. According to my research, Hyrule is about 168 miles by 198 miles. Saying that a kid with as much equipment as Link could realistically walk about 20 miles a day max, it'd take him 13 days of travel to get from one corner of the map to another (and that's if you assume there's no monsters to fight and no landforms he needs to walk around). Getting from Kokiri Forest to Hyrule Castle could take upwards of 3 days! That's not even accounting for Link's need to stop, gather food/water, set up camp, fighting monsters, nursing injuries, etc. With how much Link has to travel and backtrack in this game, it's safe to assume that it would take several months a least, on top of the 7 year power nap that Link gets.
The Legend of Zelda/Zelda II: The Adventure of Link: Putting these two together because they have the same issue, as do most of the older games: What is the scale of this game? They travel around a lot in game, but it's difficult to tell just HOW far they travel due to the game system limitations. I love you original LoZ, but you can't tell me that Link and the monsters in game are the same size of FULL GROWN HECKING TREES! I know it's a sprite limitation, but it makes measuring things so much harder. All in all, using the same things I talked about in the OoT part, I'd assume that these games take a couple months at least due to traveling on foot being relatively slow.
Wind Waker: Now THIS is an interesting question! We all know that this Link sails with the wind at his back for this game, which you would think would make all that travel time a lot easier. Unfortunately, winds are fickle. Even if Link has full control of the wind, I'm sure that he's not an absolute expert at sailing at the start of the game. For beginner sailors it's recommended that you don't sail with wind above 10 knots (or 11 mph), otherwise you risk capsizing. That's a relatively low speed, especially for crossing AN ENTIRE OCEAN. Not to mention small boats can't really handle winds going above 25 knots (28 mph) from what I understand. Otherwise, the waves will start splashing over the side of the ship and start filling your boat. Plus, the King of Red Lions is small. Even if they did go far, they'd have to turn around fairly often and go to populated islands to go resupply due to limited carrying capacity. Plus Link would need to rest, and to rest you need to anchor yourself. You can't anchor yourself in open water, you need to be able to reach the sea floor. It's much easier to do that near islands, so Link would have to track down an island to stop at every night, otherwise he'd be taken off course by the tides. Unfortunately, we don' have an actual size for Wind Waker from what I've seen. It's larger than Ocarina of Time, but smaller than Breath of the Wild, which could mean just about anything really. Still, with the limits of Link's boating skills at the start of the game, the limitations of the King of Red Lions' size, the distances travels, and the limit of their supplies, I'd guess that this Link's adventure takes well over a year if not more. Phantom Hourglass would be a bit better since Link now has training and a motorized boat, but sea travel still takes time. It'd take less time than Wind Waker, but I'd still estimate it at several months or travel there.
Spirit Tracks: FINALLY AN EASIER ONE! Trains are easy! They can only go on their tracks and no where else! Coal trains can go about 50 mph, and we can SEE exactly where that dang train can go! All and all, the travel time in this game won't be too bad, and the actual story would probably take up more time than traveling would. Most locations you can stop at are close enough to towns so resupplying shouldn't be an issue either. I'm guessing this adventure would take less time than the others, so I'm marking this one at a couple months max.
Breath of the Wild: *sigh* from one of the easiest to one of the hardest. BotW is a victim of "when does anything happen in this game?" There's a hundred things to do in this game, but what is the order of events? Do you go to the Zora first? The Gorons? Gerudo? How much backtracking do you do? How about side quests? In what order? What order would LINK do these things in? Unfortunately we have no answers. I love this game, but it's impossible to pin down a timeline for events in this game. Plus, our good old friend realistic walking speed is back! Unlike OoT child Link/atrophied adult Link (I don't care how much magic you put into that magic coma, not using your muscles for 7 years straight will atrophy your muscles to some degree), BoTW Link could possibly travel up to 30 miles per day on foot in ideal conditions. Unfortunately for BotW, most of the world is not in ideal conditions. Overgrown paths, monsters galore, blood moons bringing those monsters back, rain that never seems to stop falling when your just trying to climb, Breath of the Wild isn't the most ideal place to travel right now. And the map in this game is bigger than in other games, with more places to travel to. Breath of the Wild is another adventure i'd consider being well over a year or two.
Hyrule Warriors: This is going to be the last one I do for sanity reasons, but HOO BOY. THIS ONE. This one is the longest of the games by far! Since this is a Warriors game, it totally glosses over the insane logistics of what happens in between levels. MOVING ARMIES IS HARD!!! ESPECIALLY ON FOOT!!! In 1414 King Henry marched his army roughly 260 miles as fast as possible to try an out pace the French. It took them from September 24th to October 24th. That's about 9 miles a day, a far cry from OoT child Link's 20 miles a day. Unfortunately, that's just how armies are. They're difficult to move, hard to feed, and hard to heal when people inevitably get injured. In ideal situations, armies could technically move 15-20 miles a day on good road, but that's not where Link is taking his men. Some locations are in their Hyrule, but a lot of them aren't. They're in unknown locations in both time and space. Traveling unknown lands is slow, and it's difficult to get resources there. Not to mention the amount of monsters around would mean that their supply lines are bound to be attacked. With how many limitations they have, I'd guess this adventure would take YEARS to complete.
Tl;dr All Link Adventures fall into three categories for me. Short Adventures, which would only take up to 6 months to complete. Medium Adventures, which would take anywhere from 6 to 12 months to complete. and Long Adventures, which would take over a year to complete. I hope this answers your questions :3c
Another general question for the fandom! In universe, how long do you think Link's adventure lasts? Pick any game you want as an example, I'm just curious how people approach this.
To me most of them are under a year, but I hear some people headcanon things significantly longer.
#hopefully you don't mind the info dump#i think about this sort of stuff in video games a lot#legend of zelda
