Trying to make it racist to ship to stucky so that sambucky will become more popular isn’t going to work. People connect with characters and ships through fanfiction and art not through other fans moralizing them. In fact that can have the exact opposite effect. There are a lot of people shipping sambucky. Focus on spreading fanfiction and art about them and watch more people fall for the pairing. Both ships make sense in canon so let people who ship stucky ship them. There is room for both.
I never said if you ship Stucky you are racist. Or if you shipped anything but SamBucky you are racist. I don't expect everyone to love an appreciate Sam Wilson like I do. People like what they like and I am not going to force them to like my ship because then they won't have the same appreciation. So you need to climb off your soap box and chill.
I swear, ya'll act like Marvel Cinematic Universe diversity was A1. It was not in the beginning. Ya'll remember the first Avengers movie, back when the only diversity was the cg green guy and a white woman? Even Avengers 2 was the same cast of white heroes. Lol, it took me until Infinity Wars to realize that every major white hero happened to have a token black sidekick/friend. Like Tony had Rhodey, who was in Avengers but didn't contribute to the final boss battle. Like Steve who had Sam, who does think for himself, but was there to help him hide, find Bucky, and didn't even get let in on Steve's man to live most his life with Peggy. Or like Thor who I learned Heimdall of all people was his best friend, but paid him no never mind while he was out having fun with his white friends.
In Doctor Strange they gave the role of the Ancient One who was supposed to be played by an Asian, to a white woman, which basically white-washed the role and cause an uproar in the Asian community. You had Simu Liu defending his solo Asian movie Shang-Chi and the Ten Rings to the Disney CEO who called his movie an 'interesting experiment'. Let's not forget the fans being all pissy about having Netflix's Luke Cage and Black Panther featuring a predominately black cast when there was tons of predominately white marvel/mcu tv/movies before and after that.
I mean the fact the fact that Joe Kirby and Stan Lee created the first black superhero that didn't have 'Black' in front of their name, with Sam Wilson, should be applauded. But too blatantly ignore that there is still racism in MCU movies, TV shows and in the Fandom itself is dumb. Marvel has gotten. A lot better at diversifying and they are more than likely going to get better with time. Especially if they diversify their directors, producers, and writers.
If you love stucky. Ship your ship. I honestly don't care. As long as you respect my ship. I will respect yours. My original post was asking why people didn't recognize sambucky more because of how beneficial their relationship was and how Steve x Peggy is now canon. If you check my comments section, many have also pointed to race. So I am not the only one.
Too make a long story short, I'm not just throwing race cards down just because. Marvel's MCU took a while before they diversified and gave solo hero movies to not just minorities but women. I'm not accusing anyone who doesn't ship my ship as being racist or hating on sam wilson. But I have noticed how people tend to use sam wilson as a fill in for Steve rogers when their ship tanks in fanfics. Or use him as a prop in fanfics to antagonize Bucky or being the token black friend whose only job it is to help his white friends find love or work through mental issues. He is not a love guru, bully or free therapist. Sam Wilson deserves love too.
Ship want you want, but put some respect on Sam Wilson's name. Don't shut up and dribble me Anonymous. Ya'll keep coming to my blog, like I ain't state my personal love for all things Stackie and SamBucky and showed my willingness to fight for my ship. If you don't like what I'm shipping then get the fuck off my blog.

What a long, terrible pirate stream.
Almost beat the shroudbreaker, fucked up puzzle, died, lost all progress. Decide to go to the far eastern side of the map, sink a skeleton ship, dont realize until it's too late that my ship is sinking, lose out on a ton of good loot. Go island hopping for treasure voyage, get lots of good stuff, MY SHIP SINKS BECAUSE OF A VOLCANIC ERUPTION. I find one chest to salvage under water that hadn't spawned, i put it on my row boat. Row boat has no oars. I respawn and go back, the servers merge, my rowboat isnt there anymore.

Young Lady and Gentleman
Tumblr media
I decided to watch this series because it has a really good cast. I've seen most of the actors in other series and I was looking forward to watching them, specially Ji Hyun Woo, who is one of my favorite actors. The first couple of episodes held my interest even though they were filled with clichĂŠ: the misunderstanding at the hiking site, Dan Dan winning Jae Ni over by fighting against her bullies, and Dan Dan's stepmother and her family's lack of sense when it came to money, to name a few things. There were a lot of characters that annoyed me to no end, but what really killed it for me was the amnesia plot (acting like a 22 years old man and then remembering he was 40 and forgetting what he did when thinking he was back in his 20s). I skipped half the episodes and then saw the rest of the episodes skipping scenes.
This series disappointed me. It could have explored the issues in believable ways, instead of brushing them with clichĂŠ plot twists and simplifying the issues and resolutions. They could have explored the stigma to age difference in relationships since Young Gook and Se Ryeon both fell in love with people that were younger than them. They could have explored the issue of abandonment and adoptive family with Sa Ra, Anna, Young Gook and Dan Dan's father and stepmother. The decisions men and women make and how the woman is the worse off - with Dae Ran, who was too ignorant to believe a married man's words and become his mistress and remain in a household where she wasn't respected or loved. Because, let's face it, Young Gook's father was no model to follow.
The characters didn't help either. Of the adult characters the only ones that were less annoying were Mi Rim and Joon Oh because they went after what they wanted, they worked around the hardship together and were equals in their relationship.
I had a lot of trouble stomaching the female characters (except for Mi Rim). Dan Dan was too immature, clingy and had no self-respect. The same could be said about Se Ryeon and her mother. Sa Ra and her mother were schemers, but I also think they got the worse end of the rope. Dae Ran was the one to propose Sa Ra pretend to have been in a relationship with Young Gook when he lost his memory and as soon as the plan went sour, she left Sa Ra with all the weight of the scheme. Sa Ra's desperation to be near her son made her do many unspeakable things but I believed she could have had a second chance with Cha Gun; but he also disappointed because he said he loved her and was willing to stay with her while she was pregnant with his child, but as soon as she lost it, he was willing to part ways. He walked away, leaving her all broken. . . A similar thing happened to Lee Ki Ja. Yes, she had to pay for her crime, but her supposed friends - who were no angels - brushed her every time she wasn't a convenience to them. In the end, even Sa Ra left her mother to find her own path.
Anna Kim was no saint either and she could have dealt with the situation in another way, but why use the "cancer" card? Why use the "let's pity her" route and then dispose of her through death? I just think this was too easy.
And Yeon Shil wasn't the best stepmother, or wife for that matter, but I think her husband used her and didn't respect her. He turned her into the evil stepmother for years and then had the face to tell her he wanted to stay with his ex-wife while she was sick. And here is where the male characters also annoyed me. Soo Cheol and Young Gook were good people but acted all mighty and didn't think about the people they were hurting with their actions or words. Cha Gun was a character I liked but the way he let Sa Ra go was really disappointing. Dae Beom was hard to stomach at the beginning but he grew as a character towards the end, just like Se Ryeon did.
I guess these are not black and white characters. They are all human - I'll give them that. They had their good things and those that were not good. And it would have been okay if the writer and director hadn't tried so hard to turn this into a comedy. It should have been a drama. I think it would have worked better that way, the female characters would not have been portrayed as ignorant, clingy and foolish simpletons and those over used plot clichĂŠ would have been out of the equation.

You’re all I want, all I need
Chapter 1 - I’m ready now
Chapter 2 - The 13th clan
Chapter 3 - Soulmates
Chapter 4 - Your enemy is our enemy
Chapter 5 - Costia
Chapter 6 - The calm before a storm
Chapter 7: Hurts like hell
The entire army is gathered in front of Lexa's tent, where a small dais has been erected for the Commander to give her pre-battle speech on. Clarke is standing in the crowd next to her people as they all patiently wait for Lexa to make her entrance. Clarke is wearing her Wanheda’s armor, and she has two stripes of war paint that go from her nose to her hairline on each side of her face. She's also armed like a true grounder, with a sword and her knife tucked respectively on her back and on her left thigh. The only Skaikru weapon she’s carrying with her is a small gun slipped into her belt on her right side.
Clarke tries to remain calm as she waits for Lexa to come out of the tent. The truth is, she’s impatient to see the other woman, with whom she hasn’t had a single alone moment ever since they left Polis. Of course, they saw each other the night before during the war council, but she really wishes she could have a moment with her girlfriend before moving to battle. Especially considering that the council has decided that it would be best for them to fight on different parts of the battlefield, as their role of commanders makes them two sensible targets. That way Azgeda won't be able to take down both of them at once, or so they hope.
When the Commander finally exits her tent, and makes her way on the dais, the crowd bursts out into loud cheers. But everyone falls silent as soon as Lexa raises her hand asking for attention.
"Gona kom Kongeda, oso laik hir deyon shil Skaikru op, oso brana lukot, kom Azgeda. Geda chon jomp moun op, jomp oso op. Oso throu daun ogeda en oso kik thru ogeda." She pauses for a moment as her warriors start cheering again.
In the meantime, Clarke uses the break to translate Lexa’s words for her people. "Warriors of the Coalition, we are here today to protect the Sky People, our new friends, from the Ice Nation. A clan who attacks another, attacks us all. We fight together, and we survive together."
When the crowd grows quiet again, Lexa moves her gaze over her people, and stops to look briefly at Clarke. The two women exchange a quick nod before Lexa turns her head away to address the whole army again.
"Jus drein jus daun!" She shouts followed in chorus by all the warriors.
Blood must have blood! Clarke doesn't need to translate that: her people have come to know the meaning of those words all too well by now. Just like they know that that is their cue. It's time. There's no going back now, either you fight or you die.
As soon as Lexa comes down from the dais, Clarke rushes towards her. She comes to a stop right in front of her, but she hesitates to close the distance. They both stand still, looking at each other, not sure whether or not they can display any kind of affection in front of their people. Clarke takes a look around them to see if anyone’s watching, and then she decides she simply doesn’t give a damn. There’s no way she’s going into battle without properly saying goodbye to the woman she loves. So, she takes one last step to close the distance between them, and she brings Lexa in for a tight hug. It takes Lexa a mere second of hesitation before she returns the hug just as fiercely. When at last the part from their embrace, they exchange a small smile, and then they lean in for a kiss. It takes them all the self-control they have not to fall into a full make out session in front of everyone. But thankfully, they manage to keep the kiss as sober and quick as possible. When they finally part from air, they stay close with their foreheads pressed together.
Clarke brings her hand up to caress Lexa's cheek softly as she starts speaking. "Hey, Heda, don't you dare die on me. Do you hear me? You need to promise me you're not gonna die out there. I can't live without you." As she looks straight into Lexa's eyes, she sees a flash of sadness appear in those beautiful green orbs.
"You know I can't promise that." She says as she runs her thumb on Clarke’s cheeks, mirroring her action. "Neither of us can. But what I can promise is that I'm going to do anything in my power to come back to you, ai hodness."
Those words manage to bring a smile to Clarke’s face. "I’ll do anything in my power to come back to you too.”
"Heda, taim don kom op." One of Lexa's generals says from behind them. It's time.
At the hearing of those words, Clarke and Lexa jump away from each other. A worried look crosses both of their faces. But if the man is upset in any way by the sight of the two of them holding each other like that, he doesn't let it show.
"Alright. Let's get this over with." Lexa nods before moving to follow her general.
"Wait!" Clarke quickly stops her in her tracks by grabbing her arm and turning her around so that they're facing each other again.
She doesn't exactly know what to say, because she refuses to believe this is goodbye and, at same time, she doesn't want to part from Lexa just yet. She looks down at their hands as she intertwines her fingers with her Lexa’s, because she can't afford to look weak in front of their people, not today. And she knows that, in the moment she’ll look into those big green eyes she loves so much, she won't be able to hold back her tears. When she feels Lexa giving her hand a small squeeze, she finally raises her head again, and what she sees there shocks her. Apparently, she isn't the only one trying not to cry, Lexa’s eyes are just as watery as she imagines her own to be. Clarke realizes this is the first time she's ever seen Lexa shed tears in public. They're surrounded by the fiercest warriors of the Coalition, yet here she is letting all her walls down, and letting herself be vulnerable for the woman she loves. Clarke knows how hard it is for Lexa to show weakness, and her heart melts at the thought of this woman loving her so much to let herself appear weak in public. Without other hesitation she throws herself at her girlfriend to hold her in a tight embrace again. Lexa returns the hug immediately this time.
"I love you." Clarke whispers brokenly in the girl's neck.
"I love you too." Lexa reciprocates before leaning back to place a soft kiss to her forehead. "I'll see you when this is all over. Be safe." And with that she turns to catch up with her group of warriors.
"You too." Clarke murmurs to Lexa's back before turning to go join her people waiting for her.
_______________________________________________________________
After hours of fighting, it is clear that the Ice Nation army is a much harder enemy to defeat than they have originally expected. The amount of corpses Clarke has to avoid as she moves around the battlefield, and the strong smell of blood make her feel sick to the stomach. But she keeps striking her sword back and forth, because she can't afford to get distracted, and be killed in the process. She's just run her blade through another Azgeda warrior when she hears a cold voice coming from behind her.
"Well, well, if it isn't the mighty Wanheda."
"Nia." Clarke recognizes immediately the woman standing in front of her, even if she's never met the Ice Queen before.
"Looks like Lexa went to all the trouble to save you for nothing. She can't protect you this time, Sky girl. Your power will be mine, and finally I'll become the only leader worth of the Commander's throne!" With that Nia launches herself forward, drawing her sword at Clarke. But to her surprise, the blonde is quick enough to stop her blow with ease.
The sound of their blades colliding is all Clarke can hear for a long time, until a loud pained scream rises from her side. Clarke immediately turns her head to see if it was one of her people to get wounded, but her distraction gives Nia the time to kick her sword out of her hand, and to send her back first on the ground. The sudden attack catches Clarke off guard, and she doesn't have time to slow her fall and avoid hitting her head. She lies there all dizzy for moment, and Nia uses that time to proceed to another attack. Clarke lies still as she looks at Nia’s sword rising up in the air, and then coming down hard for her chest. For a second, she thinks it’s over, this is how she dies. But all of a sudden, she remembers something. It’s a move she’s seen Lexa teach the Nightbloods in one of their sparring sessions. She raises her left leg slightly so she can reach the knife tucked on her thigh, and right before the blade can run through her chest, she rolls on her side. Surprised by her quick move, Nia stares at her sword stuck on the forest floor, giving Clarke just enough time to roll back with her legs raised to kick the woman straight in the ribs, sending her to the ground. They both get back on their feet quickly, and Nia immediately raises her hand to lay a punch on Clarke's face, expecting the Sky girl to be unarmed just like she is. But Clarke surprises her once more, and right as she’s about to hit her, she feels something sharp penetrating her flesh. Her mouth fills with that taste of metal which is typical of blood, and she moves her eyes down to see Clarke pushing a knife into her chest. When Nia brings her eyes back up to look at Clarke, the blonde turns the knife slightly in her chest sending another shot of pain through her body which is almost enough to take her breath away.
The blonde stares at her for another moment before uttering in her lowest, and most menacing voice: "I am Wanheda, Commander of Death! I don't need Lexa to fight for me: non na throu daun gon ai!" No one fights for me. And with that she pulls the knife out of the Nia’s flesh, letting her drop down dead.
"This is for Costia." She whispers as the victory horns fill the battlefield with their sound.

The moment Clarke enters the gates of Arkadia, she finds herself being pulled in a strong embrace by her mother.
"Clarke! Oh my God, are you okay?" Abby leans back so she can take a proper look at her daughter, searching for any visible injuries.
"Mom. I'm okay, I promise. I'm okay." Clarke doesn't need to ask her mom if she’s ok, because Abby was inside the walls of Arkadia with Jackson all the time. Their role was to tend to the injured warriors who were going to be brought in.
"Is Lexa here?" Clarke asks moving her gaze around, hoping to see her girlfriend walking among the crowd of warriors returning from battle.
"No, she still hasn’t come back.” Abby sees Clarke starting to panic, so she immediately adds: “The battle just ended... I'm sure she'll be here soon."
"Yeah..." Clarke doesn’t sound very convinced, but she does appreciate her mother's effort to calm her down.
"Clarke!" Someone shouts from behind them. Clarke turns quickly to see a familiar face.
"Octavia!" She exclaims as she runs to her friend, relieved to see her friend is safe and sound.
They have lost sight of each other at some point during the battle, and Clarke was honestly worried the girl might have been dead. "You're ok?" She asks, mirroring her mother's actions from before. "Wait, where's Lincoln? Is he..."
"No, he's fine. He'll be here soon." Octavia reassures her quickly, although something in her voice doesn't sound quite right. It's like there's something she's holding back. Something that’s definitely bad news.
Clarke doesn’t seem to notice it, though, as she replies with a sincere smile on her face. "Good. I'm glad you're both okay."
"Clarke, there's something I ne-" Octavia starts just to be interrupted by Clarke, who is suddenly reminded that she was looking for Lexa right before her friend showed up.
"Hey, you don't happen to have seen Lexa, do you? She has yet to come back from battle and..." Clarke trails off when she sees her friend turning her head away as if to avoid her gaze. She's definitely hiding something, and this time Clarke sees it.
"What is it? Have you seen her? Is she okay?!"
"Clarke..."
Maybe it's the sad tone in Octavia’s voice, or the way her friend’s eyes water as she looks back at her, or maybe it's just the fact that everyone is back from battle but her girlfriend. But suddenly, something clicks inside of Clarke, and she starts to panic again.
"What? You… you know where is she? Octavia?” When Octavia avoids her gaze once again, Clarke starts yelling. "Octavia, what happened?! Where the hell is she?! Where’s Lexa?!"
"I'm so sorry, Clarke..." Octavia says in a small voice before raising her eyes to look at Clarke slowly.
"What…?" Clarke whispers, terrified of what might come next.
"We did everything we could, Clarke. But... She'd lost too much blood. I'm so sorry." Octavia is now full-on crying as she looks at somewhere past Clarke's shoulder. The blonde follows her eyes until her gaze falls on Lincoln.
"No..." She shakes her head at the sight of him approaching them with a lifeless Lexa in his arms.
"Oh my God." She cries. This can't be happening. Please, let it be just her worst nightmare. There's no way Lexa's dead, she can't be dead. They were supposed to find each other once the battle was over and, and hug each other, and kiss and, and-
Clarke is hyperventilating by the time Lincoln reaches her. "I'm sorry, Clarke..." He interrupts her trail of thoughts as he comes to a stop in front of her.
"Lincoln. Put her down." Octavia says gently as she places a hand on her boyfriend's upper arm, encouraging him to do as she says.
She knows he has orders to bring the Commander's body to the medical center with the other dead warriors, as the ones who have survived prepare the pyre for a proper funeral ceremony. But she also knows that Clarke needs to say goodbye. And they have to let her hold Lexa one last time before they burn her body. Lincoln hesitates for a moment. As a warrior he’s supposed to follow his orders, but as Clarke’s friend he cannot deny her one last moment with the woman she loves. Finally, he gives up with a small nod of agreement, and he crouches down to place Lexa's body on the ground.
As soon as Lincoln gets back up, Clarke lets herself drop heavily on her knees, not even bothering the pain that shoots through her bones as she impacts with the ground. Nothing will ever come close to the pain she's feeling right now. It's like her heart has been shattered into a million pieces, and her lungs have been emptied of all of the air they used to hold inside. She's not even sure if her heart is still beating, it might as well have stopped in the moment she saw Lexa slumped lifelessly in Lincoln's arms. Now that she's kneeling beside her, she can make out two bullet holes on the Lexa’s abdomen. Her shirt is soaked in her own dark blood, and there's a trail of dried blood that goes from the side of Lexa's mouth to her chin. As Clarke takes it all in, tears start streaming down her cheeks. She holds a hand on her chest, trying vainly to alleviate the pain that fills heart, and that won’t let her breathe. Her other hand goes to her mouth when she lets out the first sob. She shakes her head fiercely as she cries over Lexa’s dead body. Her tears fall on Lexa’s chest as she leans forward to pull her lifeless figure onto her lap. Clarke embraces her girlfriend tightly as she sobs in her the crook of her neck, seeking for the warmth that she used to find there.
All Clarke can see is Lexa, and she can hear are her own broken sobs. She doesn't notice the small crowd of people that's gathered around them. She doesn't see Octavia and Lincoln crying in each other's arms at the sight of that heart-wrenching scene. She doesn't see Kane holding his arm securely around Abby's shoulders as her mother cries too, finally understanding the depth of Clarke's feelings for Lexa. She doesn't see her people’s shocked, surprised, and sad faces as they find out while she's sobbing desperately in her dead girlfriend's chest, that Clarke and Lexa were much more than just the Commander of the 13th clans and the Ambassador of the Sky People to one another. Clarke doesn't notice. But in that moment, everyone knows she and Lexa loved each other with all of their hearts, even if the cruel world they live in has tried to tear them apart time and time again.
Finally, they don’t have to hide their love anymore. But there is no more…

Do you have any recommendations for dramas where the woman lead is really cool and badass? Like the type that doesn’t get flustered with flirting and such? Someone like Su-Ji from “Because This is My First Life” but the lead instead of a secondary character.
I know exactly what you are asking for: a Strong Independent Lady who has ambitions and strong opinions. She challenges gender roles, is supportive of her friends, doesn’t mind romance but takes the lead, and doesn’t take anyone’s crap.
Sadly, I cannot recommend any k-dramas with lead characters as cool as Soo-ji and you guys, that’s nuts! I mean, she is my absolute favorite kdrama character but…Drama Writers: We NEED our strong ladies, C’mon!
Strong females are usually written as side characters (which is a shame IMO) or part of a group of leads instead of the main part of a duo. Any strong lead in a k-drama is worth noting though, so I’ll list some of those as well.
Strong Female Leads In K-Dramas:
Choi Ae Ra from ‘Fight My Way’ (it’s true that she’s flustered by the guy she likes, but she stands her ground, has unique ambitions and will always be my favorite female lead.)
Han Yeo Jin from ‘Secret Forest’
Kim Bo Mi from ‘Spring Turns To Spring - this show isn’t for everyone because it’s BONKERS, but she is definitely one of the strongest alpha ladies I’ve ever seen in a drama (and Lee Yoo Ri is SO good in this)
Tumblr media
Mostly Strong Female Leads:
Son Soo Jung from ‘My Strange Hero’ - a little soft in the romance area but pretty awesome and unique
Ban Ji Yeon from ‘Witch’s Romance’ - It’s been a while but I remember her being pretty strong and independent
Nak Won from ‘Come and Hug Me’ (she is not your typical alpha female at all, but she is VERY strong so even if the romance is super angsty, I want to list her.
Go Ae Rin from ‘Terius Behind Me’ (I know she seems soft at first but she’s actually super independent and I love her, plus it’s my list so… ;-)
Tae Gong Shil from ‘Master’s Sun’ - Again, it’s been a while since I’ve seen this but I remember her being very pushy, persistent and hilarious.
Tumblr media
Strong Female Sidekicks:
Soo-Ji from ‘Because This is My First Life’
Kang Yi-Na from ‘Hello, My Twenties! / Age of Youth’
Byun Hye Yeong from ‘Father Is Strange’
So many awesome ladies in ‘Terius Behind Me! - Watch it!
Kim Bok Joo’s BFFs from ‘Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo’
Ma Ji-Young from ‘Hwayugi’ (she’s not exactly independent since she’s a loyal servant BUT she’s very feisty.
If anyone can think of Strong Female Leads that I’ve missed, reply and help us out

Reviewing the Drama’s I Have Watched Pt 1
I have seen a few people do this and got the inspiration to do so myself. My rating system goes like this: 1- Did not like, 2- Enjoyed but probably wouldn't watch again, 3- Enjoyed and would watch some episodes again, 4- Enjoyed and would watch again, 5- Loved
Korean Dramas
Bad Family: 3/5
Bad Family is about a little girl who, after a bad accident, loses her entire family and her memory. In order to help her regain her memory, an ex-gangster is hired to create a family of actors to pretend to be her family. I thought the story of this show was interesting and it was really enjoyable to watch. The main couple choice was a little questionable for me, but I thoroughly enjoyed this show. The only reason it gets a 3 is because I see myself re-watching a few episodes but not watching the whole thing over again.
Tumblr media
Doctors: 4/5
Doctors is about a woman with a troubled past who grows up to become a doctor to find out the truth behind a medical tragedy in her past. It follows her story as she begins to fall in love with her mentor who helps her open up and become a more compassionate person and doctor. There are many doctors and interns dealing with their own problems as they try to make it in the medical world. It was really interesting and fun to watch, though it can be frustrating at times which is expected from a romance drama. I was telling my little sister about it and she said it reminded her of Grey’s Anatomy so if you enjoy that show you would probably enjoy this one as well.
Tumblr media
Flower Grandpa Investigation Unit: 5/5
This was my first Korean drama if my memory is correct. It is about a group of policemen who, while investigating a string of kidnappings, stumble upon an experimental drug which makes a person age years in an instant. It follows the policemen as they try to find who is behind this drug, the cure, and the reason one of their men didn't change. I love investigative shows as you can see from some of the dramas I've watched and this one had that bit of a goofy side that was really great. I have seen this drama quite a few times and still love it so much. It has a wacky storyline and dirtier humor but it was so enjoyable.

Goblin, the Lonely and Great God: 4/5
Goblin is about, well, a goblin who is trying to find his bride so he can finally pass away and move on. He finds himself living with an amnesiac grim reaper and his slightly ditzy nephew who has a few secrets of his own. It follows the Goblin as well as a high school student Ji Eun-Tak, who may just be the bride he was looking for. This show is like a roller coaster with emotional highs and lows, one second you are laughing and the next second you are crying. I really did enjoy this show, the acting was great, the humor was amazing. I guess the couple could be controversial as she is a high school student and he is an adult, but immortal relationships are always so strange to figure out, so I didn’t think much about it and just enjoyed the show. I would definitely watch this show again and still enjoy it.
Tumblr media
Golden Bride: 2/5
Golden Bride is about a half Korean, half Vietnamese woman who marries a Korean man and moves to Korea to find her biological father. Meanwhile, many other characters are dealing with their own problems and finding out how they are all connected in this very soapy drama. While I did enjoy this series, I really don't see myself watching it again. Usually, when I fall in love with one drama or an actor, I will look up that actor and check out their other performances. That was the case with this show and I am not a soapy drama type of person. It was good for what it was, and I really did enjoy a few episodes and storylines, but a little too dramatic for my tastes. I knew what I was getting into before I watched it so I wasn't shocked nor do I hate it, I just probably won't watch it again.
Tumblr media
Loving You A Thousand Times: 2/5
Loving You A Thousand Time is about a woman who becomes a surrogate mother for a healthy family, she then falls in love with the younger brother of the baby’s father. It's about the struggles of forbidden romance and how much one will fight for love. Like with Golden Bride, I enjoyed the series and watched it because the same actor in Golden Bride and Flower Grandpa Investigative Unit was in this one. I'm not sure which one comes first, but the character for the actor is pretty much the same in Golden Bride as it is in this one, just less interesting storyline wise. It was still pretty good for what it is but I don't feel like I would ever watch it again.
Tumblr media
Mad Dog: 4/5
Mad Dog follows a group of five misfits, Kang-woo an ex-cop who lost his family during a plane crash, Ha-ri a former gymnast who is skilled in disguising herself, Soon-jung an ex-thug with a soft side, Nu-ri a computer genius with an allergy to the sun, and Min-joon a former swindler who seems to be somehow connected to the death of the main characters family. The five of them work together to investigate insurance fraud schemes and find the truth behind the devastating plane crash. This show is really great, I found it through a recommended video on Youtube and I’m so glad I did. All the characters are memorable with their own specialties and quirks, a few episodes had me sobbing like a baby and others had me at the edge of my seat. Also, I feel like the ex-thugs nickname is a multilingual pun or a translation error, which would be amazing, but I may be wrong (his nickname is Cheetah and from my studies of Korean, though I’m still very new to the subject, ‘to hit’ is pronounced Chi-Da).
Tumblr media
Moorim School: 5/5  (Possible epilepsy trigger below)
Moorim School is about an idol with hearing loss and the son of a rich and powerful man who finds themselves going to a school full of secrets to uncover. They have to learn to get along not only with each other but with their new schools’ curriculum. It includes magic, mystery, and romance. I loved this show so much and the bromance between the two main characters is amazing, I am a sucker for really close friendships. It also has a love square, I am not a huge fan of this but if you enjoy love squares, there you go. I really liked the secrets, the magic, and all the plot twists through some I was able to guess. My main problem with this show is that the ending was super rushed, which is understandable as the series was shortened by four one-hour long episodes from its original length. Because of this, the show has a lot of plot holes, I really wish it had more episodes or maybe a second season but unfortunately that it highly unlikely. I’m actually going to re-watch this show with one of my friends soon and I am so excited.
Tumblr media
Shopping King Louie: 5/5
Shopping King Louie is about a rich heir named Louie to a company who, after an accident of mysterious origin, loses all of his memories. He meets a girl, Go Bok-Shil, who comes from a rural town to the city in search of her brother. Bok-Shil believes he knew where her brother is and takes him in, in the hopes that once Louie regains his memory, he would be able to find her brother. This show is definitely on the goofy side and keeps you smiling. I usually am not a fan of romance, but the main couple is so cute and raised my expectations in relationships way too high. Super cute show with a sad undertone. It will make you hungry though, very hungry, you have been warned. Loved this one so much and I’m also about to re-watch this one with one of my friends.
Tumblr media
Squad 38: 4/5
Squad 38 is about a tax collector who becomes angry at wealthy and powerful people evading their taxes without consequence, so he hires a young con artist to help him con the wealthy into paying their taxes. This show was really interesting with a lot of twists and turns to keep you drawn in. The dynamics between the character were interesting to watch and the main love triangle was probably one of the best handled main love triangles I have seen in dramas. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will watch again.

Hwarang [Ep 18]
UGH I HATE MY COMPUTER IT DELETED EVERYTHING I TYPED UP UNTIL THE 18-MINUTE MARK AND A LOT OF SHIT HAPPENED UGH!
Anyway, picking up...I guess. Quick recap; I hate that Ah Ro is made a Wonhwa. Moo Myung is definitely thinking of gaining power now but for the right reasons. He just wants to protect those he cares about and bring about justice to the people of Silla. Now we got Danse gonna be a bad guy, and Ban Ryu who still might do something we don't know. I hate it for these guys; they're not really bad guys they are just stuck in a power struggle and having to do their parents' shitty dirty work.
I like the little cute moments thrown in. Like with Han Sung and Seon Woo. He's so inspired by Seon Woo, it's adorable.
Soo Yeon and Ban Ryu are so cute together, but Soo Ho is right; it won't work out between the two of them. At least, not how the relationships between their families are right now. Plus with Yeong Shil being a total ass wipe and trying to gain all the power in Silla for himself. Pshh asshole wants to become King...okay we'll see. You got two powerful Hwarang biting at your heels sir give them the time they'll catch up.
Oh no, I feel bad for Danse. He sees how much Han Sung likes Seon Woo and how happy he is. However, he's also been threatened that Han Sung will die if he doesn't successfully kill Seon Woo. This is so sad and horrible. He just loves his brother and cares for him, he's willing to do all this just to protect him.
This is so sad, I knew Han Sung would protect Seon Woo but I didn't want him to die. Danse better not die, he better use this to fight alongside Seon Woo and Maek Jong and fight all this corrupt political stuff.
Wait hold up, so now Yeong Shil wants to use Seon Woo and make him the king to bring down Queen Jisoo? What...sir I don't believe you.
Oh, she just found out that Seon Woo is actually her brother's kid. Haha, I love how she falls to the ground. Like she realizes all her choices up till now have fucked her over.
I swear if Sook Myeong tries to kill Ah Ro while they're at this shrine omg. No, it's worse, the Queen's guard tried to take out Seon Woo and she took the arrow for him. WHY!!!? Surely she won't die though right?
Man, the next episode is gonna be REAL GOOD! of course it has to be because it's gonna build-up to everything and then the last episode will resolve it all.

Pakumachi for the shil questions!
ANON. You probably forgot you even sent this, and it’s been sitting in my drafts for some fucking time now. Anyway, it’s a solid, tested ship.
How did they they meet?
The eight year old daughter of an alcoholic seamstress looks down the barrel of a gun pointed at her, held by another girl who couldn’t be much older than herself, and, strangely enough, she feels nothing but empathy.
Who developed romantic feelings first?
Machi. Pakunoda was the first friend, the first love.
Who is their biggest “shipper?”
Chrollo.
When did they have their first kiss and under what circumstances?
They robbed a store when they were sixteen year olds in a small mission that could’ve ended in their deaths, and under the rush of adrenaline that was a mark of their survival, they kissed.
Who confessed their feelings first?
Pakunoda did.
What was their first official date?
They never really had one, but one time Paku miraculously, as she always does, fished out a bottle of wine from her coat and took Machi to a secluded spot on the roof of a building in a busy city, and Machi, even years later, thinks that must’ve been a date.
How do they feel about double dates/group dates?
They don’t do them.
What do they do in their down time?
They’re very cozy in comfortable, shared silence.
What was the first meeting of parents as an official couple like?
Paku meets Machi’s mom as she points a gun at them in their little sewing shop, and is the one struck by fear upon realizing that neither the woman nor the girl are scared of her.
What was their first fight over and how did they get past it?
About joining the troupe. Sometimes it seemed there was no question about it, sometimes they talked about setting out on their own, but loyalty to the others ran deeper than personal aspirations. The issue ended and was never discussed again the moment the troupe was formed.
Which one is more easily made jealous?
Machi.
What is their favourite thing to get to eat?
Paku loves strawberry shortcake, Machi not so much, but she will always go to eat it with her, anyway.
Who’s the cuddly one? What their favourite cuddling position?
Paku. She loves to just be held.
Are they hand holders?
Rarely.
How long do they wait before sleeping together for the first time? What’s the circumstances?
They don’t often get chances to be together alone, but one time their missions merge and they take time for themselves.
Who tops?
Machi.
What’s the worst first they’ve ever gotten into?
Their first serious mission together as part of the troupe.
Who does the shopping and the cooking?
Neither is an activity they indulge in, really.
Which one is more organized and prone to tidiness?
Machi. She’s immaculate.
( I didn’t answer the marriage questions cause Paku’s dead :[ ).

DREAM KNIGHT
Tumblr media
It’s no secret that there are some idols who venture into acting, most of these pop stars do a good job, while there are others whose craft need a bit of honing before debuting on the big screen. In the world of K-pop there are numerous idol groups, so of course the competition is stiff as entertainment companies pay close attention to how a group’s album is doing on the charts.
Another thing which is super important to idol groups, is the amount of promotions that they partake in, as such you’ll see these groups on shows such as Music Bank and Inkigayo, and you’ll also see the entire group or a few members on a variety program. For the companies who generate enough capital, you’ll find that they’re able to promote their own groups, and as such you get shows like We Broke Up, EXO Next Door and Attack on the Pin Up Boys.
Tumblr media
GOT7. Back row, from left: BamBam, Jinyoung, Yugyeom and Youngjae. Front row, from left: Mark, Jackson, and JB
GOT7 is one such group who had the opportunity to star in their own web drama, and such a project is an ideal way to promote an idol group, as well as provide a bit of fan service. However, there are a few drawbacks to films of this nature, as not all members of the group may have acting experience, or the script lacks a few essential elements; and when this occurs, the project might not live up to the public’s expectations.
Tumblr media
Major cringe-fest.
Dream Knight’s female lead character Joo In Hyung, is a high school student who’s a bit of an outcast, and she just happens to live alone. That bit did not sit well with me, but then Dream Knight is a fantasy piece so I pushed those feelings aside and watched on. Joo In Hyung discovers that she has the ability to somehow conjure up life-like versions of the dolls that she carries around.
Tumblr media
The plot at this point seems to be heading in a clear direction, you’ll begin to understand where the writer is taking the story, and you’ll also begin to make a few connections as you go along. Joo In Hyung’s life-like dolls seem to follow her wherever she goes, and so this web drama’s concept of what it means to be a knight, becomes clearer as these doll-boys are now protectors.
Tumblr media
Somewhere along the way I started to lose interest in the plot, Dream Knight slowly became something I would have on in the background while I worked on those dreadful essays. There were a few plot holes which seemed like they would never be filled, and the acting didn’t really captivate me enough, and so I turned my attention elsewhere when certain scenes would come on.
Tumblr media
Joo In Hyung did begin to have some amount of development as she was able to maintain a friendship with these boys, and in doing so she began to have her own dreams for her future. The Joo In Hyung that we were introduced to at the beginning of the drama, later transforms into a more joyful individual who’s now living her life to the fullest.
Tumblr media
There is of course romance in Dream Knight, as Joo In Hyung spends more of her time with her newfound knights, she begins to develop special feelings. JB and Joo In Hyung’s budding relationship had the potential to rise above the other cringey scenes, but in my opinion the plot began to take such a cliched route, and so I found myself losing interest yet again.
One thing that I have to add about cliches is that they do indeed add some kind of cuteness to a plot, and so while writing this review, I had the thought that Dream Knight is a web drama, which I’m sure the members of GOT7 and their fans both enjoyed. And although there are a few questionable occurrences with this web drama, you might just find yourself enjoying every bit of it.
Tumblr media
Soon Ha Yoon plays the character of Joo In Hyung, and while Dream Knight is the first project I’ve seen her in, her performance made it obvious that she is indeed talented. You can check out Soon Ha Yoon in My Daughter, Geum Sa Wol and Fight for my Way.
Tumblr media
Lim Jae Beom, more commonly known as his stage name JB, as well as the leader of GOT7, is not only talented in singing and making music, but he has skills in the area of acting as well. You can check out JB in Dream High 2 and When a Man Loves.
Tumblr media
Park Jin Young debuted as Junior with GOT7, however he later decided to use his birth name Jinyoung as his stage name. Not only is Jinyoung a talented singer, but he has a few special cameos in the drama Legend of the Blue Sea. In addition to that, Jinyoung also starred in Dream High 2, as well as the movie A Stray Goat.
Dream Knight was directed by Park Byung Hwan who also worked on Holly. Kim Eun Young participated as a writer and also created Chosun Police, and Spy Myeong Wol. Kim Hee Ran made her debut as a writer with this script, and as for the other writers - Shin Hye Mi, Ahn Suk Chan and Won Young Shil - no further information could be found about their work.
Dream Knight’s OST is indeed filled with songs from GOT7, 2PM, Rain, and others, so give that a listen whenever you have the chance.
Plot: 3/5
Cinematography: 5/5
Acting: 3/5
Total: 11/15
(Credits to the owners of the pictures, I took them from pinterest, allkpop, soompi, dramafever, gramunion, and seoulpop_’s instagram page)
(You can watch Dream Knight on netflix and dramafever)

Korean 101
Basic Greetings
안녕하세요 (ahn-nyung-ha-se-yo) — Hello
This can be said at any point in the day, and you can reply to this in exactly the same manner.
반갑습니다 (bahn-gap-seup-ni-da) — Nice to meet you
If you meet someone, especially someone of importance, you can illustrate your respect with this short phrase.
어떻게 지내세요? (uh-dduh-keh  ji-neh-seh-yo?) — How are you?
Just a standard way to inquire about someone’s day. It can be used with those you’ve seen recently or those you haven’t seen in a while.
잘 지내요 (jal-ji-neh-yo) — I am good
A positive response to the above question of “How are you?” and can simply mean that all’s well in your world.
제 이름은 _____ (jeh  ee-reum-un  _____) — My name is _____
A simple way to introduce yourself to anyone.
안녕 (ahn-nyung) / 안녕히 계세요 (ahn-nyung-hee  geh-seh-yo) / 안녕히 가세요 (ahn-nyung-hee gah-seh-yo) — Goodbye
Common Courtesy
감사합니다 (gam-sa-ham-ni-da) — Thank you
This is a formal, all-around safe way to offer your gratitude. Alternatively, you may say 고맙습니다 (go-mahp-seup-ni-da).
천만에요 (chun-mahn-eh-yo) — You’re welcome (formal)
It’s not often that Koreans actually respond to a “Thank you” with a “You’re welcome,” but if you wish to be extra polite, then you can throw in this phrase. Normally, you can respond to thanks with a simple, humble 아닙니다 (ah-nib-nee-da), which means “It’s nothing.”
실례합니다 (shil-leh-hap-nee-da ; polite) / 잠시만요 (jam-shi-mahn-yo ; “wait a moment”) — Excuse me
실례합니다 is a very polite phrase used to get someone’s attention, such as for when you approach a stranger for help. 잠시만요 more or less means “Wait a moment” but can be used for situations such as when you need to push past or be a minor physical hindrance to people.
여기요 (yuh-gi-yo) — Over here
Use this phrase with a raised hand or some kind of physical gesture to get someone to come over to you. This can also be used to flag down a waiter in a restaurant.
죄송합니다 (jweh-sung-hap-nee-da) / 미안합니다 (mi-ahn-hap-nee-da) — I’m sorry
Used for any situation where you need to excuse your behavior. Both ways of saying sorry are formal and have an almost equal amount of weight (are interchangeable).
주세요 (ju-seh-yo) — Please give
Navigating Around and Finding Your Way
왼쪽 (oen-jjok) / 오른쪽 (oh-reun-jjok) / 직진 (jik-jjin) — left / right / straight
These are self-explanatory, and if you’re asking for directions, you’ll most definitely be hearing these words. Make sure you memorize them so you can at least pick up general directions.
길을 잃었어요 (gil-eul  ilh-uht-suh-yo) — I’m lost
The phrase literally means “I lost my way” and will tell any native that you’ll need some navigation help. Follow up with something that will indicate where you’d like to go.
_____ 어디인지 아세요? (_____ uh-di-eehn-ji  ah-seh-yo?) — Do you know where _____ is?
This will be critical anytime you need to locate anything. This phrase isn’t travel-specific, and can be used for most situations where you need to find a location (for example, you can use this phrase at a department store to find a specific shop).
잘 모르겠네요 (jal mo-reu-geht-neh-yo) — I don’t understand
It’s highly likely that you won’t understand every word of Korean you hear, and it’s best to let whoever’s talking to you know that! Many will be kind enough to try and simplify their message for your comprehension.
한국말 잘 못해요 (hahn-guhk-mal  jal  moht-heh-yo) — I don’t speak Korean well
A nice notification that will save you from being bombarded by Korean. Honesty is a good policy when it comes to using a foreign language.
영어 할 수 있어요? (yung-uh  hal  su-eet-suh-yo?) — Do you speak English?
Most Korean natives know some English to be able to help you out in a tough spot, so don’t be afraid to ask!
천천히 말씀해 주세요 (chun-chun-hee  mal-sseum-heh ju-seh-yo) — Please speak slowly
Korean is a rather quickly-spoken language, especially when the speaker is quite emotional (Korean dramas, anyone?). Therefore, use this phrase to politely request a slow-down.
_____ (으)로 가주세요 (ih-roh  gah-ju-seh-yo) — Please take me to _____
If you need a guiding hand, then this will be the phrase to use. You can quickly find people willing to direct you to where you need to go. This phrase can also be used to inform a taxi driver of your destination. (When the place name ends with a consonant, use “으로,” otherwise use “로.”)
화장실이 어디예요? (hwa-jang-shil-ee  uh-di-eh-yo?) — Where is the bathroom?
Dining
_____ 주세요 (_____  ju-seh-yo) — Please give me _____
To order your meal, simply state it and tack on 주세요 afterwards. Short and simple!
메뉴 주세요 (meh-nyu  ju-seh-yo) — Menu, please
More often than not, Korean restaurants won’t have the menu out on the tables. To get one, simply raise your hand and state this phrase.
계산서 주세요 (keh-san-suh  ju-seh-yo) — Bill, please
Waiters in Korean restaurants often will not personally ask if you’ve finished your meal, so once your stomach is satisfied and you’re ready to head out, ask for the bill!
싸 주세요 (ssa  ju-seh-yo) — Please wrap / It’s to-go
If you want wrapped leftovers, you definitely have to let your servers know as they probably will assume otherwise. Note that you’ll likely only get your meal, not any side dishes, packed up.
저 알러지 있어요 (juh  ahl-luh-ji  eet-suh-yo) — I have an allergy
Shopping
_____ 있어요? (eess-uh-yo?) — Do you have _____?
Use this phrase on a store employee if there’s something specific on your mind.
얼마에요? (uhl-mah-eh-yo?) — How much is it?
It’s highly recommended to know how numbers work in Korean, as there are two distinct systems that are used in different contexts. However, if you’re not overly familiar with them, it’s probable that the cashier will be able to tell you the price in English.
카드 받으세요? (kah-deu  bat-euh-seh-yo?) — Do you take credit cards?
South Korea has a high credit card usage rate, so you shouldn’t have a problem if you’re strapped for cash and only have your card on hand.
환불해 주세요 (hwan-bul-heh  ju-seh-yo) — Please give me a refund
Be prepared with a good reason for your request! Even if you’re a foreigner, you’ll still need to explain yourself (and explain well!) to the store employee.
교환해 주세요 (gyo-hwan-heh  ju-seh-yo) — Please give me an exchange
If your shopping purchase is damaged or needs to be switched to fit your needs, then use this phrase to notify the employee. You shouldn’t have a hard time with this request, especially if you have a valid reason.
Emergency Situations
도와주세요! (doh-oah-ju-seh-yo!) — Help!
A straightforward call for assistance. This literally means “Give me help,” to which a proper response might be 도와줄게요 (doh-oah-jeul-ke-yo), which means “I will give you help.”
긴급 상황에요 (gin-geup-sahng-hwang-ee-eh-yo) — It’s an emergency
Whatever the nature of your problem, this phrase will get you rapid assistance. Consider who exactly you need to help you, whether it’s the police or the paramedics, for example.
경찰 / 경찰을 부르세요 (kyung-chal / kyung-chal-eul  bu-reu-seh-yo) — Police / Call the police
It’s helpful to know that in South Korea, the phone number to contact the police is 112. But in case you don’t have a phone or are in quick need of legal service, saying the above phrase to a native will most likely get the help you need.
병원 (byung-uon) — Hospital
If you say this phrase alone to a native, that could be enough of an alert for them to aid you. If you need quick medical attention and know you need care at a hospital, then use this phrase.
여기가 아파요 (yuh-gi-gah  ah-pah-yo) — It hurts here
This is useful for any injury you receive that needs to be treated. Along with this phrase, point to where exactly you feel pain.
의사가 필요해요 (uie-sah-gah  pil-yo-he-yo) — I need a doctor
Along with the word for hospital, this is good to know if there’s ever a possibility that you need professional care. It’s possible someone will call an ambulance for you, should the situation be dire, but you should also know that the Korean phone number for the fire brigade and ambulance services is 119.
Miscellaneous
화이팅! or 파이팅! (hwa-ee-ting! or pa-ee-ting!) — Fighting!
Slang used for encouragement, you can passionately exclaim this to boost one’s morale. It’s usually accompanied with a firm shake of the fist.
괜찮아요 (gwaen-chanh-ah-yo) — It’s okay
The equivalent to the English “It’s fine.” You can say this in a multitude of situations, such as expressing the state of your physical health or accepting a certain circumstance.
진짜요? (jin-jja-yo?) — Really?
Just in case you need some extra affirmation about something. This phrase is also commonly used as an exclamatory statement.
안 돼요 (ahn-dwae-yo) — It doesn’t work/It cannot (be)/No way
This phrase differs slightly in meaning depending on the context. You can use it for a variety of situations, from talking about a dysfunctional washing machine to adamantly denying a particular circumstance.
재미있어요 (jeh-mi-eess-uh-yo) — It’s fun

Forges and kilns squat in the clearing, stout as beehives built from clay. A dozen smiths, fletchers, armourers, and their prentices squabbled over the flames. Streams of sparks marked their words; blades thrust into coals or quenching vats. Half-drowning their arguments, the dinning strike of hammers and the offbeat grunt of anvils. Soldiers and sellers of food hustled through with clay pots and boxes, jars sealed with twine and layers of parchment, to set their food a-simmer amongst the hot and grey-white ashes. Smoke billowed, chasing itself, then fleeing before the wind.
But that was only the heart of things. A beat like iron and oil for blood — it dinned on, battling itself, but Simra reckoned it was faltering. The smiths were doing all they could to look and sound busy. Bothered over the same bits of haggard spare metal, rummaged with pokers at the coals, howled at their prentices for more air to the bellows. They fought amongst themselves for something to do. And all the while they scarce turned out an arrowhead. A waste of tar and charcoal and a waste of wasted time.
Whereas the clearing’s edges bristled and thronged. From mats and shacks and yawn-mouthed tents, people peddled boredom, and cures for it, and more pleasant ways to pass it by.
“Scents! Musks! I have hormones, pheromones, ambergris!”
“When were you last clean, sera? I tell you, I have soaps, water hot as any foyada you care to name! And the tub I have? Why, you could stretch your legs full out and still have room to wriggle with glee! One at a time, sers, one at a time — an orderly line, sera, one at a time if you please…”
“Poultices! Cures for callus you’d walk three days barefoot for..!”
“Faces mirrored, hair trimmed, beards cut! And if you have a tooth that pains you..?”
“Tea! Shein! What you will! Who are we to judge you either way? Who are we indeed to judge! Broths on the boil and straight to your bowl! Line the tables, warm the seats!”
“Pathetic…” Simra grunted under his breath.
“What?” said Tammunei.
They were quiet, huddling close as a cub to its mother, still yet to learn it too has claws. Marketplaces, voices, the crowd and clamour — like they thought Simra could shield them from it all. But that’s the way with crowds, Simra thought. You aren’t in the crowd; you are the crowd, unapart from it. Same for cities and battles and all. How do you save someone from your own self?
“Said it’s pathetic,” Simra answered. “Scrubbed clean, all of it. A camp full of soldiers and mercenaries, and not a glint of gambling in sight. Place like this ought to be red as Autumn with bedworkers’ tents and their caterwauling from inside… They’re not selling leisure here, they’re selling fucking prudence, moderation, temperance. If those were worth tuppence then they wouldn’t come for free.”
He cut himself short but the curse came all the same. Blighted Indoril; he thought it almost aloud. But in a place that forced bedworkers into silence, and dens for sujamma and skooma into hiding, no telling where muttering the wrong thing might get you. They were all still here – the gamblers and bedworkers and dealers of sharps and numbs – Suran had taught him that much. Only they’d be buried; their goods pricier, hawked in whispers. All it takes is for one stiff robe to call something sin and the whole underbelly of things changes. For every red tent taken down and every red lamp snuffed out, another goes up in secret, charging higher for the risk and the lacquer-black gleaming novelty of the forbidden.
“I thought we were here for provisions,” Noor said.
“We are,” said Simra.
“Yet you’re mourning pleasures you might’ve bought.”
“And where’re all these provisioners you’re seeing, hm? Could it be my license and love for the profligate have blinded me to them? What d’you see with your truer purer eyes, talsintushpi?” A sour pause as Simra waited for a response that never came. “Tsscht. Thought not. Nothing here but watery broth and sawdust dumplings and bug-musk by the jar-full, and I’d bet even that’s two-thirds fake.”
Long tables spilt out from the mouth of a wide yellow tent. Days of steam had left patches on the canopy, permanent damp, dark as mustard. A few handfuls of mercenaries slumped at the trestles. Pipesmoke; stale panbreads picked at with fingerless-mittened fingers; black crescent-moons under grubby nails. Men and women, Dunmer in the main, with hollow eyes and looks curdled with hunger.
Simra slouched down beside one. A Dunmer. He might’ve been stout once, but the flesh lay slack on him now. He wore a greasy red cloak, ill-darned in a half-dozen places. The strap of his belt hung in excess past his pad-armoured knees from all the times he’d tightened it, stabbing new holes through the leather. At his hip a wicked-wide shortsword, sling, and stone-pouch. A dished round shield of bonemould and a battered bronze helmet sat on the bench beside him.
“Using those soon, d’you reckon?” Simra tapped his fingernails against the helmet’s crest. It belled dull and quiet at his touch.
The mercenary turned a pouchy red eye on Simra. A spark of fury showed for a moment – the interruption, the gall of a stranger touching his armour maybe – and then went lax and left. “What’s it to you?” he said. “Looking to join the party, latecomer?”
“Me? No. Nah. Not me. Means more for you though, right? Me, I don’t even know who’s fighting who.”
“Hm.”  Something moved the mercenary’s mouth, like working up and holding back the urge to spit. “No news where you came from?”
There was a bite and bristle in that, Simra thought — rank hypocrisy from a mer whose accent was scarce a scratch more native than his own. “Not down the road to south and west, no,” Simra said, keeping his tongue, keeping sweet and bland. “So what’s the word? Heretics, I heard.”
“Almsivists,” the mercenary grunted. “Sprouted up in the town months back. Some priest, young and bright eyed, on the run from out east. He comes in Senie one day looking a mixer, a freak. Says he’s had some vision that the Tribunes ain’t gone, only hiding. Testing us, like. Says he had a vision from Saint Ayem herself to tell him so. And on the steps of the Temple he offs his robes and shows how he’s mottled like a piebald guar — starting to turn gold, he says. Chimer-gold in patches like some pox. They lock him up of course, the Templers, but a week goes by and the city’s set him free and they’ve thrown out or killed all the Templers instead. Calling themselves the Uncursed. Locked up in there, wanting nothing to do with what’s outside while they wait on the Tribunes’ return. Something like that…”
“Something like that?”
“What I said, innit? For all I know they’re all in there, turning gold in their own sweet time.” The mercenary’s mouth worked again. This time he did spit, whitefroth and thick on the ground.
“Why the siege then? If they’re just waiting, not fucking with anyone, why bother? Just let ‘em starve behind their walls.”
The mercenary rolled his shoulders. A shrug that clicked his back and tensed his thick slack neck. “Some of the folk they threw out? Lords, merchants, priests — them as ran Senie, or as good as ran it. ‘Spose they want their town back, and before Winter sets in proper. Impatient bastards, throwing out money like that. Going begging to the Indoril…” He looked over his shoulder and hurried to speak on. “Not like I’m making plaints, mind. It’s them pays my pocket, and them that’ll see us over the walls, innit? And ‘sides, killing heretics?” A hollow laugh, shrill with worry. “I’d do that for free, right?”
Simra drummed his fingertips again on the helmetcrest. His neck itched and his scalp crawled. He looked round slow, casual as he could. Masks and plumes and pale blue silk, caught in the corner of his eye before he turned back. Ordinators, walking the marketplace. Don’t run. Don’t flee or they’ll think you’ve got a reason. Same as the Quarter; the uptown watch with their dogs and their brutal boredom. He stayed seated.
“Right you are… I’m travelling their way and all,” Simra said, sunny. “Sure someone’d thank me when I got to Daen Seeth if I came full of stories. Breaking the walls at Senie; taking back its streets. But time’s short, more’s the pity.”
The mercenary cast a measuring eye over Simra. Took in his travelling clothes, his armoured knees, sword and blades and all, then looked back to the table. His eyes wouldn’t answer the question so he had to put it in words. “Sellsword too then, are you?”
“Something like that, when it suits.”
“Not a soldier though,” the mercenary said. Something about his posture bristled.
Simra eased his hand away from the mer’s helmet. The threat hung thicker between them now — some posture or challenge in unspoken issue. “Not if I can help it, no,” Simra smiled; a closed twist of the lips. “I’m all sorts besides, but today I just wanted news. Grain too – provisions – if you know someone who’s selling..?”
The mercenary spoke after a curt pause. “Heading out east, you said? Hm. You’ll need it. Might be I know a man’s got some spare…”
Simra’s scarred hand slipped into his jacket. Found out a pocket in its stitched silk lining and fished two coins from its narrow mouth. Shils of tin and russeted iron, loose and stamped with holes; he laid them down on the tabletop. “For your help.”
“You’ll want to walk off that way.” The mercenary skimmed the coins off the table and into his palm to grease and grow warm there. He nodded a path through the tents. “Look for what’s left of the Black Lamps company. Reckon you can imagine what their standard looks like. Had a spill in the first try at the walls and now they’re supplied for more heads than they’ve got. They’ll not be raring to the breach again any time soon so they’re not counting on a good pillage. Been foraging hard instead. Might be they’ll see you right…”
“Grateful,” said Simra. Rising from the bench, his knees and hipjoints argued. Saddlesore, travelsore, aged before he’d grown old. A brief grimace pulled at his face before his muscles and bones fell silent.
“Same,” the other mer said with a backtip of his head, a jutting upnod of his chin.
“Good luck then. Y’know. When the time comes.”
You’ll need it, Simra thought. When the times comes, you’ll need helmet and shield and luck and more. Mole, mine, breach; the threat and promise that pushed comers forward and cowards back and turned one to the other in moments. The cold would keep the ground hard at least, and the footing better – no sea of hungry steaming mud here – but all the same… All the same, Simra wouldn’t have bet on the other mer’s chances. Wouldn’t have taken his place. He almost asked himself, what would his price be? But he pulled the thoughts up and threw them away. There are better ways to make coin.

Worlds Within. . .
This is not the first time I finish watching this series. But I just couldn’t help writing another post about it. This story always leaves me full. . . It fills my heart of love and happiness. . . It’s difficult to describe. . . It’s beyond the setting - the fact that I love the world they live in. . . It’s more about the relationships. . . Of the friendships and the love. . . It is the trust and the loyalty, the love so strong that can surpass fights, pain and misunderstandings. It’s about sharing a bond that creates a web of support that is unbreakable.
It is not just about Jung Ji Oh and Joo Joon Young who were in love with each other and even after a breakup they were able to work together and respect each other professionally. . .
It’s about the friendship between Jin Oh, Min Chul, Yoon Young, Lee Seo Woo, Park Hyun Seob. It is about Joon Young understanding the importance of friendship and becoming part of the female web of friendship with Yoon Young, Lee Seo Woo and Kim Min Hee. . .  The bond between the older actors, the years of friendship between them: Oh Min Sook, Kim Bok Shil, and Sunbae. . . It is the unusual friendship between Oh Min Sook and Yang Soo Kyung. . . And the rivary that turns into a somewhat friendship between Jin Oh and Soon Kyu Ho. . . All these characters are so real, complex, where there is a grayish area in each that make them lovable but also cruel. . . These are real people, that struggle with everyday life: personal and professional and I think that is why I can connect so much with the story and its characters. . .
This is one of those series that always takes my breathe away. . .

top three fictional characters: since this is a kdrama blog i can cut it down to them (thankfully - else we would be here all day) so i’m going to say ko dong man (fight my way), grim reaper (goblin) who is essentially me, and eun hwan ki (introverted boss)
top three ships: this is where i start stressing out and not wanting to leave anyone out: kim shin and ji eun tak (goblin) because they killed me ko dong man and choi ae ra (fight my way) because i’m a sucker for friends to lovers byun han soo and ni yeong shil (father is strange) seriously we need more main married couples in kdramas that actually get along

so, hansung...
that last episode made me so incredibly hyped that i zoned out in three of my four classes yesterday just thinking about his character. boy am i glad i called dibs on that boy let me tell you. i should mention that everything that im about to say is under the assumption (once again) that hansung really is sixteen.
the main priority of this post isn’t just talking about his personality. i wanted to talk about hansung’s relationship with dansae, as it supports my previous post (which you can read here). to paraphrase, i basically stated that hansung, while loving them, feels his family is a burden to him for various reasons. that much was explicitly stated in episode 12.
at first, in his second scene with aro, i thought hansung was being overdramatic and the scene was supposed to be comedic, but the more i watched the more intrigued i became. his fake-hurt was childish but it had a lot of depth to it - hansung was running away. he was completely willing to trust aro with that tiny secret, and while it may not have been the whole truth, it shows respect for her and the tiny crack in hansung’s bright, happy exterior. i don’t know about you guys, but this is not the kind of thing i would tell anyone freely. hansung trusts aro, clearly.
Tumblr media
then dansae comes in the room, hansung’s exterior changes immediately. he was rather vulnerable and open while he was alone with aro, but the second his brother walked into the room, hansung became closed off and guarded. when dansae asks him to practice swordplay, hansung immediately declines and moves closer to aro, creating a safe distance between him and his brother, further proving his trust in aro. his expression becomes childlike and almost pitiful.
Tumblr media
in his expression it is evident that he really really did not want to accept his brother’s offer, but he concedes anyway because aro pushes him to. he was reluctant and moody as he left and waved to her, like a petulant child, following his brother to practice.
then comes the fight itself, and while i’m not an expert in sword fighting, i have seen a little bit in my martial arts training so i’m not going into this blind. it is dead obvious that hansung is the weaker of the two, in both a physical and technical sense (and as you will see, an emotional and resolve sense as well). dansae’s movements are precise and he is clearly the dominant one in the fight. meanwhile, hansung is doing nothing block him, and i think this is a metaphor for how their relationship is being portrayed. dansae is commanding and almost controlling in the way he interacts with hansung, which is unlike any of the relationships we have seen (even with banryu and master young shil in the mix). just like any teenager, hansung hated the tone used, and with that irritation, his demeanour changed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
as you can see in the two screenshots, hansung is getting more and more worked up as seconds passed. the first shows his face and the irritation that he is struggling to keep down, but i feel the second is the most significant. hansung tightens his grip on his weapon, as if it would somehow make him stronger. this movement is similar to the clenching of fists by your sides. his arms are held low and not in front of him, showing restraint, but the anger is still evident. almost immediately after strengthening his grip, the fight between brothers continues on. hansung’s movements become more aggressive, not quite reaching offensive due to dansae’s skill and experience, but his emotions are clear to see - which has been a major part of his character throughout every scene. dansae overpowers him almost immediately, and hansung drops his weapon and his knees hit the floor.
Tumblr media
this shot is incredibly powerful. not only did it make certain weak-willed members of society (me) nut off the planet, it showed hansung finally allowing the anger to fully reach his face. this shot is also powerful as every part of it screams their dynamic. dansae on top (family), hansung kneeling, overpowered on the ground (helplessness in his position), and the weapon represents hansung’s burden (once again, family and duty). but not only this, hansung is immediately told that it wasn’t good enough, that his skills weren’t good enough, that he wasn’t good enough, playing into an inferiority complex and the extreme hurt that comes with it. when dansae demands he does it again, hansung pushed the weapon away and tried to storm off (which to be honest would be my reaction too), but his brother stopped him. thus beginning the argument (and my nut).
Tumblr media
this shot almost shows them as equals. yes, they are standing face to face, but hansung still has to look up. i know one could argue that it’s just because dansae is taller, but the writer in me thinks there’s a little more to it than that. it may be clutching at straws, but i think it has a lot to do with their argument. hansung thinks that dansae could revive their family - he had the skills, the talent, the strength to do so, but hansung has the power. he’s young and he’s burdened and he’s being told he isn’t good enough and hansung is just really... he’s really scared, and i don’t blame him.
Tumblr media
“what can i do?! this is who i am!” he bellows, because he’s so painfully aware of everything going on that it hurts. it hurts him so much, tot he point where his face is scrunching up in hurt and pain.
Tumblr media
then he storms off. and i think that he was so angry that he lashed out because:
Tumblr media
there’s a lot of hansung thing’s that happen behind the scenes, and this is the only thing that i can think of that would get him kicked out of his own room. dansae immediately runs off to find him hiding in a closet. hansung glances at dansae for a split second before turning his gaze away once again.
Tumblr media
hansung argues dansae like a child, but once again, his demeanour changes at the mention of family. at the mention of his burden. it sets him off again.
Tumblr media
hansung pushes himself out of his hiding spot like he’s running away, but he turns to face dansae. they argue, and they hit each other’s sore spots brilliantly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but then dansae fights back, and it’s powerful. dansae is everything hansung wants to be and yet he has nothing - he can’t do anything, yet hansung is everything dansae wants (but rather subtly). i suspect that this inferiority complex has been bubbling away in hansung’s stomach for years, unable to surface for many reasons. but now he has hwarang, and he’s so scared of this fight that he runs away yet again. but he can’t. because it will bring shame to the family - what will people think? but hansung doesn’t care. he’s frightened and he’s thinking of himself - family be damned, even if it means facing the consequences later. but the interesting thing with all of this is that when dansae fights back, hansung immediately regrets what he said (or at least, how he said it).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hansung backs off while dansae tells him what to do. just like everything is falling in its place - hansung is inferior and dansae is commanding. and hansung lets dansae drag him away, expression melancholic. and yet after all this, i’m struggling to reach a conclusion on these two. i know for a fact that this is going to be developed more, and i’m extremely excited to see that (if it wasn’t already obvious). what i’m not sure about is where it will go.
in summary: family is the #1 sore point for the seemingly carefree and happy hansung. he finds his place and family to be quite burdensome, and his relationship wiht his older brother seems to fuel that immensely. hansung feels he is inferior to his brother and it causes him great pain and adds to his burden, but all of this is understandable considering his age and place in the world. as i said last time, i’m incredibly excited to see how hansung develops even further and wrecks me forever.
