Fun Fact
Kazakhstan’s Minister of Communications and Informatics has blocked the Tumblr site because it contained 60 sites of terrorism, extremism, and pornography in 2015.
How do you create one of the worse sequels I have ever seen? Welp, Love Never Dies is probably the perfect example. I could rant for hours about that.
I think my relationship with it is the purest form of a love-hate relationship, as it's so bad it's almost funny. If anyone wants to know, shoot me an ask, and I will explain whyyyyyyy
*takes breath*
Anyway, I drew Nightmare in the Red Death Outfit from the Masquerade scene, and ohhhhhh, I love ittttt. Yet another outfit that the movie didn't do justice, seeing it on stage was fantastic!! And it's actually a reference to another book called "The Masquerade of the Red Death" and it is essentially a huge FU to everyone at the party.
I'm gonna say it againnn anyone who's a fan of the movie should listen to the 25th anniversary sound track, my poor gf has had to listen to me rambling about it lol.

Imagine if CC had a single friend when he was alive. Someone who genuinely cared about him no matter what. Someone who helped him face the monsters the scared him. Someone who never would've let him get dragged to the stage and killed.
Imagine that.
(meanwhile Cassidy is seething at me in the corner because I've been focused on the boys more than her)
Sometimes I remember that for some reason Chayanne out of all the fucking eggs was the one specifically that got the threat that if they don't leave their parents would get hurt and had to be the one to tell the other eggs and got blamed for that for a hot minute, then when they got yoinked to Purgatory he was shoved into the center display and he squeezed himself into the corner when watcher eye fucker, Elquackity & that eye worker were all in the same space as him and like mfs why the fuck were you all there scaring him specifically you fucks like leave him alone LEAVE HIM ALONE and then not only that but the fucking eye guys specifically targeted him with a threat over Luffy because he was Phil's assigned egg and I want to fucking explode.
Like I might not like a lotta of the antagonistic groups on the island, but for the specific reason of singling out Chayanne to torment, I have a personal vendetta against the Purgatory Watcher and look I don't know if the Watcher sent the threat specifically, but it really seems fucking so. Like you fucking molded charred snappable prick, you leave my little duckie egg with self-esteem issues alone, you fuck.
I might not like the Federation and Cucurucho and the Codes, and whatever else other morally corrupt groups are out there at this point, but if I need to cheer any of them on to have the Watcher and his supporters get skinned and vivisected, finely minced and grounded to dust, and have whatever worthless remains be evaporated permanently from this plane of existence to the next then yeah I would gladly do so. My boy did not deserve whatever the fuck that was and I don't know when that plot point comes back but I hope specifically that all their plans crashes and burns horribly and I say this with extreme prejudice in that I hope they fucking suffer and choke <3 😁
So many beautiful things about these panels: Cyrus acknowledging that he was saved from his own despair thanks to the protagonists; the fact that he doesn’t punish Charon for his betrayal, simply leaving him behind instead; listening to Jupiter’s words and taking full responsability, even though he doesn’t intend to do bad stuff with Team Galactic anymore; the sweet moment when his Magneton lifts the three admins, taking them with him.
Cyrus slowly embracing his own flaws and imperfections by finding completeness in others is just so meaningful and sweet, especially for someone who grew up in an abusive household and had a hard time making friends, choosing to tinker with machines instead. The pain he endured all by himself, the fact that he lost Rotom for some reason, the loneliness and struggles. He never deserved any of that. And he never meant to destroy the world or hurt people, although his actions are controversial. He just wanted to get rid of emotions because he was never enough for his parents. He never found himself enough, often seeing his own existence as incomplete because he never had validation or affection. Still, he has such a strong will. He did everything he could to make a new world without any strife (albeit as twisted as his mind at that time).
Cyrus was never meant to be evil. He was literally just in a very sad and lonely position when growing up. He was in deep pain and by default decided to interpret that pain as a flaw of the spirit. “I can’t feel pain if I don’t feel anything at all.” As twisted as this thought is, it had logic for him, and he treasured logic above everything else. It made sense in his mind and this is why he was only able to see the errors of his ways when he realized that his plan would never be possible. He started listening and opening his heart to Diamond, and he finally understood that he could have overcome all that pain by finding peace and support in others, which is particularly hard for him because how could he trust people when his own family saw him as a disappointment, no matter how high his grades were or how hard he tried to live up to their expectations?
And yet, against all odds, he is trying. He literally found redemption by changing his own perspectives of the world, all by himself. That’s how strong Cyrus’s heart, will and spirit are.
Enjoy some multi-media art [I don't just draw 😌 {Ive made like 2 video edits and i will probably never make more}] to a song that I found during ~ PEAK ~ hyperfixation
[I did noT draw any of this BTW, God didn't bless me with that ability but I do know how to use cool editing sometimes 😎]
I love your interpretation of Mav and Ice. I love how realistic they both feel because well, they're white men in the Navy starting in the 80s. What it does make me wonder about Carole? I know you don't write for her but your analysis of Top Gun itself just made me wonder about her. Like whether she was a traditional military wife or just kinda met Goose and fell into it. Did Goose's death and the period between his death and her's change anything? Did it make her more skeptical of the military because of the cause of Goose's death or was her asking Mav to not let Bradley fly purely out of her hurt for Goose's death and not a moral/political thing also. PS. I read your Slider fic and absolutely adored it
well… i think any attempt to flesh out Carole’s character is gonna be completely based on conjecture, because we’re not given more than “slightly naive Christian woman who doesn’t always say exactly the right thing.”
But I think it’s helpful to remember where she fits into the narrative at large, and why: Carole Bradshaw is the villain of the Top Gun franchise. Top Gun is her villain origin story.
The rhetorical purpose of the top gun franchise is: to make money, obv, AND to get people to join the navy. (to what extent it’s successful at achieving that latter goal is the topic of a different post… im certainly not the first to say it’s pretty easy to find an antimilitary reading of TG.) but if top gun is aiming to portray the navy as someplace you want to be, and someplace where you have to earn a spot to be (as I keep repeating over the last couple weeks, it’s all about honor), then Carole Bradshaw becomes the villain of the recruiting story of Top Gun: Maverick, because she (momentarily) prevented her son from joining the navy with the honor he thought he deserved, and she is to blame for the emotional through line of the entire movie. Thank God! we don’t have to blame maverick for fucking up and preventing Bradley from achieving his Dream Of Working As A US Military Contractor! we can blame his dead mom instead, so that maverick is still a good guy whom we, a moderately-conservative pro-navy target audience (🤑), can still root for & pay money to see.
so yeah narratively speaking she’s just a scapegoat. She has no agency in the story whatsoever, she’s only an object to receive blame. any backstory/reasoning/character we invent for her doesn’t really matter. It doesn’t really matter WHY she does it—whether she hates the military or not, narratively speaking we have to blame her just the same either way—it just matters that she does it. and then she has to immediately die so she can’t explain herself and maverick has to self-sacrificially take the blame. Because otherwise the plot of TGM wouldn’t happen, which would not achieve the rhetorical goals of making a bunch of money and getting kids to sign up for the navy.
Hhella i have a question. Many people i follow like bungo stray dogs and despite me trying to watch it 2 times now ive just not gotten into it so idk what happens in the later seasons
