My Fionna and Cake episode 7&8 tangent

Lets start it off with the score. 20/20 it was fantastic. my stupid theory post will happen eventually, and I will ABSOLUTELY TALK ABOUT PETRIGROF

The star - Cake thinking Fionna was upset cause her fling died was silly, Fionna was clearly upset before about the candy people. The fight with the vampires was funny but intense, I love how Cake and Fionna care a lot about eachother. Also why does Simon know what holy water taste like. Pb and "Star" was so cute, and I was so right when I talked about us getting more Bubbline on tiktok (Tiktok account is not linked anywhere btw) The vampire world is super sad though, cause they had really been eating for so long, that a potential thousands of people died. Marshall and Gary really lit up the episode from the sadness once again, Gary's tangents of his candy kingdom are so cute. AND HIS HAMBO THINGY IN HIS CAR. Marten and baby Finn are so cute, I wanna legit cry cause HES MEANT TO BE A GOOD DAD BUT HES SO STUPID IN THE OG UNIVERSE. Also imma say this now, Prismo gets in trouble for breaking the rules once and ignoring a few beeps, BUT Scarab ignores several beeps and his entire job and doesn't get in trouble, that boss better have a good reason. Second date (potentially) and Marshall already introducing his boyfriend to his mom, damn. Marshall's mom matches og Hunson perfectly somehow, duche parent club. And Marshall's little blush of embarrassment from his mom acting all weird infront of Gary. Billy's corpse is messed up, like reall messed up, and the reminder of how tall he is is also crazy. I was also wondering the entire time if Pb was human in this universe until she bit off half her arm basically. The Star's outfit is so good, but I wonder how she turned into a vampire now, maybe she was bit in front of that worlds Simon's body and thats why she screamed at something. Already long section so I'll end it here with, I LOVED THIS ENTIRE EPISODE, Huntress dying was sad though, and Gary Marshall kiss was adorable. Closing thought of this episode, Bubbline but toxic yuri. Jerry - Simon and Betty better get a happy ending or I will legit be so sad, they love each other so much, and Betty just legit became part of a god over her Fiance once celebrity crush. I love how gorgeous everything is in this show, Orbo is also a funny character. I feel like someone could narrow down where things and places they go in this Lich's wish universe it'd seem fun at first then spiral though. Simon does NOT know how to draw though get this man an art class. The tree house being naked though, all its leaves gone. Lich's wish to kill all life, really just unironically killed ALL life, down to plants. Fun little references to old episodes, and including one that revolved around Ice king, hmm. Also I wonder the age gap between Betty and Simon, I like to see it as they're like a year apart but Simon just skipped grades cause hes a smart cookie. Also Simon had slides ready for people to be loud, HE WAS READY. Nerd girls in love. I am also guessing Bmo has been alone for awhile now, at least since season 5ish times since thats when the Lich would have made this wish. All the references in Ice King's junk from the melted ice kingdom. Ninja guide books, kunai, vhs tapes and the camera, the pink diary, his bed has the wishing amulet that Gunter used to break bottles. I was RIGHT

Fionna see's how unhealthy Ice King was, and changes her mind and wants him to not become this sad sad man again. Simon would genuinely be such a sweet and wonderful parent, he loved taking care of the babies in the baby universe, and he sees Fionna get happy when he tells his story with Betty and keeps doing it to keep her happy. Neddy is also guaranteed dead, already obvious but the candy kingdom doesn't have the juices being produced. Bmo has done a lot in his isolation, a lot of stuff is changed or moved, I feel so bad for bmo. But the lines "Help me zip up my bra" and "Ooo, butt stuff" Wow. The Simon and Betty stuff makes me so happy, they're so cute and I love them, they need to have a happy ending or I will be so sad. The lesbians ever, I love these lesbians, let the lesbians be happy. Simon struggling to say he loves her is so CUTE. Poor Bmo, I feel so bad, but he was probably so sad being alone, sad in someway. Petrigrof moment was so cute and adorable please, I want them so happy, they deserve to be happy. Now for the bombshell, Jerry. The Lich's wish monkey paw aspect is that he gets depressed and has nothing to do now that all life is gone. Billy's body decomposing as the Lich parasites it. SO, imma theory my reason for the portal finally opening to GolBetty, either it was because the Lich was used as the battle and influenced it in a way to allow it to finally work, OR Betty's wish to keep Simon safe truly included the crown being worn. Like the crown really did trigger GolBetty like "BITCH, NO" or the third that makes probably the most sense, The Scarab was literally about to kill Simon and go against what Betty wants, meaning she is going to interfere. I saw someone say that GolBetty likely wont remember Simon and this could cause something. BUT I REALLY HOPE THEY DONT DO THAT, I WANT THEM HAPPY SO BADLY

RWBY VOLUME 9 SPOILERS | RANT(?)

A lot of ppl r talking about the next episode or the one after having a Punderstorm for Neo & Ruby, which I think is just a guarantee at this point. But how a lot of people want it to go is very much not enough. Like yes, I think the Punderstorm will be to get the Roman situation figured out. But once they return to whatever area they're in before getting sent into the storm, THEY NEED TO HAVE A CONVERSATION. They still have their scrolls, as shown by Ruby, in one of the earlier chapters, so they can communicate through that.

So many people think Neo is irredeemable and also that she might die by the end of the volume. She might die at the end (though Rooster Teeth has already fucked themselves over enough I don't think that's a smart move), but she is definitely not irredeemable, and her Ruby are very much mirrors in many ways. I saw a lot of theories since Volume 8 and over the 2 year break of ppl like Penny (until she died), or Jaune would help Neo get better and be her friend. But NOT ONE PERSON said Ruby, too blinded by the fact that Neo is upset with them and completely ignoring the fact that that will absolutely get resolved at some point.

They both lost EVERYTHING at The Fall of Beacon. Neo lost Roman, her One Thing, her WHOLE LIFE, gone in an instant, and she didn't even find out until after the fact because she got swept off by the wind because of Ruby hitting the button on her parasol.

Ruby lost her childhood. She was too young when Summer left and died for that to really have the same effect, though I will touch on this later. She was 15 when in one night her school, her kingdom, her home, got destroyed. She watched her best friend, who she loved (I'm not gonna argue with ppl today on whether or not it was romantic or platonic. That's not the point of this particular post), die. She literally saw Penny's torn apart corpse and barely even had time to cry before having to fight for her life and the lives of everyone around her. Then she saw her unconscious sister, WITH HER ARM CUT OFF, laying on the ground next to their other teammate who had been stabbed and is crying while apologizing to Yang's unconscious body. AND THEN SHE GOES TO GET PYRRHA AND WATCHES HER DIE!

She doesn't even get to process anything until waking up days later, where she is asked a bunch of questions and asked to relive everything right after waking up. Then her sister, who is a mother to her, pushes her away after telling them that one of their friends ran away, while the other was forced to leave by her abusive "father." Yang can't even say I love you back to Ruby. Then she leaves on a two year trip that ends up leaving her with LITERALLY the weight of all of Remnant on her shoulders, millions if not billions of lives, and she's been told that supposedly, THERE'S NO WAY TO ACTUALLY WIN. SHE IS 17 FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Okay.

What I need to happen. Either in tomorrow's or next week's episode. (This can happen in the center platform of the Punderstorm or when they get back from it. Either is fine, though I think it would be nice for it to be the former) Once Ruby figures out why Neo hates her, Neo finds out the truth, and that gets resolved. I really want Neo/Trivia and Ruby to just sit. Just sit and fucking breathe. To cry, to scream, to get out everything. I want them to know that the other understands. Neo/Trivia can finally grieve her childhood and especially Roman, and Ruby can do the same. She hasn't had even one moment where she's been allowed to be actually vulnerable and healthily express her feelings and grief about Penny. She should be allowed to grieve and mourn. And they should both be there for each other, over the ill-conceived (i think thats the right word) differences, away from anyone that may interrupt them (especially if this happens on the center platform of their Punderstorm), just a moment of peace and silence. End of Chapter 8, cliffhanger.

Chapter 9. Eventually, the Punderstorm will end/WBY, and Jaune will find them, in which case they either catch up and see them sitting together and being at rest (something they haven't seen from Neo ever and from Ruby in a LONG time) and they, albeit cautiously, figure out what's going on, OR they (especially Yang and Weiss) go head first and attack Neo, causing Ruby to get up and stand in the way to explain everything, and of course apoligize (Yang, Jaune, and them better apoligize too though or else-).

Much like how Yang didn't really trust Emerald right away, I don't think they're gonna immediately drop all walls, and everything will be hunky dorey with Neo/Trivia. But I think that they will sorta quietly (not just because she can't speak-) follow along and try to help them get out, I don't think she'd sacrifice herself to the tree (if that does end up being a thing), she still wants to kill Cinder. If she does sacrifice herself to the tree so they can get back, I think there'd be a little scene with her and Ruby where she promises Neo/Trivia that they'll take down Cinder and with a death grip hug followed by tears, tells her that her sacrifice won't be in vain. Ruby makes a promise to a scared girl that she sees herself in so much as a trade. She gave away her Emblem, which symbolized Summer's promise to come back, Summer didn't want Ruby to get wrapped up in this. That's why she left. And her sacrifice was in vain. And Ruby won't let that happen again.

Also. If any of you fucks. thoughts on hsmtmts season 3  finale under the cut

ok going into it i was very skeptical because they have so much to cover in one episode. like whats going to get ignored??

first off i wish kourtney got more screen time this season over the love triangle dramatics. her struggles with anxiety being more central, especially since she plays ELSA, would have been so much better for the plot. instead we get... more love triangle drama

also... portwell nation how we feeling... LMAO.... yeah im crying with you rn

look i like gina and ricky and i thought that their kiss was really sweet at the end of the episode (although i wish ricky had been the one to give gina s dramatic speech after his confession was on the trailer). actually focusing on them rn, WHY WASNT THE CONFESSION IN THE TRAILER? the trailer framed it like gina was the one pursing ricky. when in actuality, it should have been RICKYs feelings being revealed, and then HE should have had to explain himself to GINA, and then GINA got to decide where to go with their relationship. not the other way around. bad writing choice, IG. 

as much as i am upset for portwell.... gotta say the me who loved gina/ricky in season 2 is very happy. i hope they stay together into the next season instead of bringing MORE love triangle back. they could have a really cute relationship, plus the actors have really good chemistry together, so i’m excited to see where they go even if i am sad for EJ

i was worried that ricky was going to go right back to pining for nini lmao. im glad hes not. but the thing about all of that that bothers me is that, the way the show is written, i definitely think they always wanted rini to be endgame. but with olivia leaving, they re-wrote it so that rather that nini, ricky’s with gina. idk. they built up portwell so well last season, only to tear them apart so easily this season. guarantee if olivia had stuck around, rini would still be a thing. (maybe thats a big part of why she wanted to leave... no more romance scenes with joshua lmfao). 

i do like the idea of gina and ricky together. i think they suit each other. i just hope that they don’t get done dirty the way portwell was done this season in season 4, because that’s how i was feeling about portwell at the end of last season. 

BIG RED BI REVEAL!!! also can we talk about big red not even being in the show but getting his “hi im ashlyns boyfriend and im bi!!!!” moment because what a KING!!!! 

also honestly??? when big red first appeared did anyone else notice jet’s little friend-jealousy he had over ricky??? it was precious LMAO. i love big red and ashlyn so much but if the ships were to somehow shift next season, and like, ashlyn and maddox wound up happening... just hear me out guys... jet and big red. i have a vision, OK??? although it seems maybe kourtney/jet might happen next season and... ok??? no objections ig but i have no real opinion on it rn since they’ve barely interacted. 

buuuuut I LOVE the idea of maddox and ashlyn so much!!! i feel like even though i didnt get jet/ricky maddox/ashlyn potential is making up for it. im so glad that it seems like maddox’s crush will come into play next season. like, i feel like the documentary is going to really hone in on it, and ashlyn will be in major denial of it, but maddox is going to be going THROUGH it because the documentary is going to make her realize how down bad she was.

MY HEART IS BREAKING FOR HIM TBH. the writers did him SO dirty. not only did he feel betrayed by some of his closest friends, he’s never heard his father say he’s proud of him. all this effort he goes through to impress his father and stay in salt lake, only for it to blow up in his face, for him to not genuinely trust any of his friends to be there for him during that call, and for him to lose his girlfriend because of being so stressed about performing good for the show??? only for his father to NOT SHOW UP to the show AND HANG UP ON HIM DURING INTERMISSION WHEN HE CONFRONTED HIM???

God, her appearance again this episode was a breath of fresh air. it really reminded me how much i miss this show having supportive adults who care about the students. like, i love them all, but i love seeing how with just showing up miss jenn gives them support. miss jenn was the FIRST PERSON to pull out her phone to support kourtney when that asshole cut the power. she immediately saw little anna struggling and gave her advice. she assured nini that if she chose to stay, she’d be valued at east high, but also assured her that if she wanted to go out west she’d have her support, too. i LOVE miss jenn and what she does for the kids in this series and i really, really miss her (and mr. mazzara!!!!) supporting them instead of having adults like channing who tear them down and corbin who literally mixed up their names and didn’t give a shit about them personally all summer.

also... i was confused by corbin? like, did he not know what channing was doing to stir up drama...? i thought he was in on it? i guess not? corbin was just genuinely busy? he was sweet in the last episode but it was so jarring, because that’s not the corbin we saw throughout the season at all. 

all in all, i felt like the last episode was so rushed. i wish that they had one episode fully devoted to the opening night and performance, and then one episode devoted to the ‘one month later’ primer of the show. (also ricky just saying where he lived on national television i was like RICKY PLEASE NO). like i loved seeing all the characters in their outfits (CARLOS’ OUTFIT WAS E V E R Y T H I N G). the season, in general, was rushed. i wish they had one or two more episodes to really tie everything in together. we didn’t get to see a lot, anyone’s reaction to ricky’s confession, ej’s reaction to ricky/gina getting together, closure for maddox and maddison, theres a lot that couldve been done.

also. ALSO. i love her don’t get me wrong, but why did the girl who played little anna (who’s name i don’t remember, she wasn’t that important a character) get a musical solo and all elton john got was that campfire song??? SERIOUSLY?? HE SHOULD HAVE SUNG SCREAM. HE DESERVED IT. like please don’t misunderstand, it was a really sweet number and i love this is me, but why did she get an emotional solo this season over EJ? i just dont understand. 

AND I JUST NEED TO SAY... at that highly emotional moment, when ej saw the tension between gina and ricky, and was going to leave, and then corbin stopped ej from leaving by starting to sing i FUCKING LOST IT. I WAS LAUGHING SO FUCKING HARD. THE TIMING OF IT AND EJ JUST NOT LEAVING AND GOING BACK TO THE CIRCLE HAD ME IN STITCHES 

so, my predictions for the next season is that we’ll be back at east high (i hope jet and maddox come to east high as well) and the primer of the disney+ show will be taking place over the course of the season. it seems like they’re setting up for some possible miscommunications that will be in the directory that will cause drama for the main characters, possibly as they’re performing their fall musical at east high? like the editing and framework makes it look like certain characters have beef with another and the characters have to deal with that as the episodes primer weekly (maybe to correspond with weekly updates on season 4). it also  seems like maybe maddox’s feelings for ashlyn will be a focal point. not that i WANT another love triangle, but i’d be more interested in seeing one for maddox, ashlyn, and big red than ricky, gina, and ej. at LEAST make the love triangle feature new characters. just let ricky and gina be happy and have some development that doesn’t end in a dramatic breakup.... please. 

also... the possibility of jet and kourtney... i’m listening. i’m not entirely on board yet, but i’m listening.

WHAT A GOOD FUCKING EPISODE

A running theme through the episode: whoever directed the visuals is a godsend.

Initially had wondered if the opening scenes within the first world were going to shine some light on the Tatsunagis’ past. Throwing the viewer into the deep end alongside Suiko was a clever decision, allowing us to feel her confusion all the more effectively.

Also the system for the girls’ ranger world is super-neat. Spin-off when?

Cards continuing their gimmick of being incredibly lethal.

The entirety of the fight with the Vanguard unit was spent thinking of the irony that it and Aichi share goals, so had a brain cell laughing at the suggestion the girls were simply on a filming set and he was the one in costume.

The claim that Kourin’ll search for a world Suiko likes smacks of irony given Suiko has her world she likes and has been fighting all along for it. It’s simply a world that Kourin approves of for Suiko to lose herself and how they handled it was stellar.

Curious how the Cardfight Club existed with four members (unless the other three were also signed up but simply not present). This world in particular is peculiar with its presumably aging up Rekka and the sisters not knowing one another to begin with. Not to mention how evidently distant Aichi is; the girls swear loyalty to him, but he minimizes his contact with them. Perhaps it’s to do with it being called the Cardfight Club but when he despises the game, have to wonder why he would choose that rather than anything else when the purpose was just to goof around.

Assuming she was roped into the surfing of worlds prior to Suiko, left to wonder how many worlds Rekka briefly lived in, and how many appealed to her, but she sacrificed to stay loyal to who she is, and just how difficult it must have been.

I’M CRYING YOURE REFERENCING THE ORIGINAL ANIME? YOU DIRECTLY CONNECTED THE TWO CONTINUITIES ILY.

Rena continuing to lose her shit because this entire scene is so good and the girls’ contrasting feelings about Alfred, Vanguard, everything is so wonderfully portrayed. For bonus points; Suiko’s unit belonging to a clan that Aichi chose and stuck with whereas Kourin’s heralds from one he never played in the manga & reboot continuity and was forced onto him in the original.

Had been wondering for quite some time just how Kourin and Suiko remembered anything related to the Reboot anime, so them providing an answer is immensely appreciated.

Also still loving whoever storyboarded this episode. Also very much loving the touch of Suiko being in focus as she challenges Kourin on her choice while Aichi hovers out of focus in the background; with their respective positions in the season and in comparison to their Outside World lives as well as how Kourin risks to lose them, it’s incredible poignant.

"We move forward”. Rockets back to one of the best scenes in epi 7 that I love so much. The fact that Ibuki and Suiko are the ones to speak of the same sentiment is precious.

At the same time, turning the idea onto Kourin and Aichi, with the added visual of the latter, really brought it home. With OverDress’ new cast, our time with these characters is drawing to a close for a second time and with no guarantee we’ll see them again. It’s incredibly bittersweet, particularly when adding in how the Q4 voice actors showed how torn up they were during the live event shortly prior to G’s airing. We were incredibly lucky to get a second run with these characters, so as the audience carries on forward and part ways with them again, having this particular theme front and centre, we’re essentially in the same position as Kourin.

As much as tried to discern the glitched figure, unless it’s whatever’s in/controlling/manipulating/whathaveyou Aichi (it doesn’t look human), a Deletor or something related to Brandt, couldn’t even try to guess, they did a good job of obscuring their identity.

Point me to them! 9′^’9 — Alternatively, he looks uncomfortable, in the same vein as the photo of himself and Emi in their Miyaji uniforms from epi 7, perhaps Takuto's explaining the truth to him and Aichi just can't process such a world because he's weak and timid and simply doesn't have the strength to imagine it.

How can someone be so ominous without a visible expression? The Biggest Fear.

DID YOU RIP OUT YOURS AND KAI-KUN’S PAGE FROM THE AKASHIC RECORD AND THATS HOW NO-ONE CAN GET THERE?

The placement of the four cards is striking; one distanced from the other three. They may be representative of the Q4 members and how far Aichi has drifted as a result of IF’s premise. Though at the same time, even if unintentional, it could be reflective of the young Aichi, who saw Kai-kun, Ibuki and Miwa playing from afar, never closing the distance himself and allowing that space between them to remain.

I have many questions. First of all: is it next week yet?

SCREAMS IN PSYQUALIA. BUT ALSO. It looks darker compared to usual, particularly in the Reboot continuity. Maybe it’s a sign of it not being quite right? That darker huge reminds me of Leon’s Psyqualia during Asia Circuit, so the possibility springs to mind of Void (seeing as the original continuity has been drawn in directly now) or interference by Brandt. If it’s a shot from the explanation regarding what’s happened to him (INTENSE VIBRATING), it could be whatever worming its way in through his Psyqualia.

Akashic Record-related thoughts:

Suiko:

Suiko’s remembrance of handing Alfred to Aichi in the original continuity opens up a huge possibility that she’s aware of the Tatsunagi sisters’ pasts and fate of that timeline. Though the girls of that world themselves never found out about their missing memories, their counterparts may have learned the truth themselves.

Kourin:

Going along the same line of thought, it gives Kourin a much more sympathetic position in that she’s not only experienced losing her memories once, but learned it to be her fate in more than just this world. When threatened with the possibility of losing a treasured period of her life for a second time, coupled with it being apparently inescapable even in other worlds, it’s a hopeless position she’s been put in, so though her motives may be selfish, it’s difficult not to sympathize with her.

Also a curious thought; Kourin’s alternate worlds for Suiko. Using the Akashic Records to surf between them, there’s the possibility that these are all worlds that exist and continue as such without external interference; other worlds where Aichi hates Vanguard, where Ultra Rare exist in different forms. But Kourin also described her actions as “creating” new worlds, so that begs the question of if she’s nonchalantly creating and erasing entire timelines?

Aichi:

The scrap of paper from the preview could very well be the page detailing his and Kai-kun’s first meeting and whatever force is at work, the figure from the glitch, given the ability to keep the distortion locked by its possession of the page through Aichi. At the same time, it might also explain why deviating from IF World’s narrative had such a detrimental physical effect on Aichi or it could be a result of, being the Tatsunagis are the only ones we’ve seen truly handle the book, interfering with its writings without the authority to do so bit Aichi and he’s suffering the consequences of it.

Why go through all this and for someone he shouldn’t know in this timeline? After he (or rather the force inside of him that intervened when they tried to bring him around and lead him back to the correct worldline) handled Takuto and Kourin, Aichi was able to investigate the Akashic Records and see just how much damage was done to Kai-kun; in the Reboot continuity, in the original continuity, maybe even in continuities we've never known of; Psyqualia, Link Joker, Legion Mate, Neon Messiah, the PsyZombie arc  — he’s learned of them and how much anguish they put someone incredibly dear to him through (and it need not be just him; Ren, Ibuki, Leon, the Ultra Rare girls, Chrono, the list goes on for how many people have been deeply hurt by being connected to the game). So to protect him, that’s why Aichi targeted and hated Vanguard, not something that’s been brewing for years, but something that exploded when keeping him in his IF existence was threatened, allowing for Emi’s insistence that he’s always been a nice boy hold true.

hey, this seriously breaks my heart to read 😞 i’m not stupid enough to believe that anything i say will be enough to absolve you of the weight you’re carrying. clearly you’re dealing with a lot of pain and mental exhaustion, maybe to an extent i cant even imagine. so i know words from a stranger aren’t any kind of solution. but i have to try any way because i care about what happens to you, and i want you to know that you’re not in this all on your own. maybe i could be a mediating presence. maybe all that matters is having some time to pause. to give yourself another perspective to consider so it’s not just your mind trying to convince you that it’s all so black and white. cause it’s not, i promise. you can be 100% certain, in this moment, that these next few months will be rough/ impossible to survive - and still make it through them anyway. a sense of impending doom is not always accurate, nor is any ‘helplessness’ you see in yourself. and when you have depression, most of the time those perceptions are wildly inaccurate. it’s coming from the same place as all of the other toxic thinking processes: the self hatred, the shame, the anxiety. it’s not a reliable or factually concrete basis to act on. look, everything i talk about in my asks, i believe whole heartedly to be true for you, too. i dont say these things lightly at all. especially when i bring up how mental illness distorts your reality and your ability to make an accurate judgement of your future, and even more so when i talk about all the different types of treatment that are out there and that really do work given the time and effort. even if they’re not immediately available to you right now, just simply surviving through each day will eventually get you to a point where you can begin confronting your issues and growing beyond them. just as people do with physical ailments, the same is possible for mental ones. you can cry, you can want to give up, you can be numb and hurt and not know what to do next. as long as you make it to the next moment. if you need a little help to be able to do that, then that’s fine. most people do. there are many hotlines still open, online communities offering support, mental health professionals working from home that you can contact. even if you have to force yourself to. if you’re already seeing someone, you can call them any time and let them know you’re struggling. then maybe you can set up a plan together, to enable you to manage the heavy thoughts/emotions when they flare up instead of being overwhelmed by them. if not, you could call a friend or loved one if that’s an option just so you have someone to vent to. i’m sure they’d rather you do that than hurt yourself. a lot of ppl are feeling the strain of this isolation, but that doesn’t mean we can’t stay connected in other ways. it doesn’t mean we’re beyond help. it’s okay, whatever you need, it’s okay. i know it seems like bull shit, and i know it doesn’t feel worth it right now. i completely understand, i’ve absolutely been there too. but i would hate to see you permanently harm yourself, or worse, over an episode (that has been significantly worsened by quarantine) that can be worked through. you cant trust your mind right now, or the urges you’re having. i dont want to give you all the cliches about how there’s so much waiting for you, about how suicide is an extreme solution to a temporary problem. i get that they’re annoying. but part of me does believe all of those old sayings, at least a little bit. you can recognize that you’re in a dark place right now, and that it’s being exacerbated by current circumstances, and thats a really good sign. it means some part of you know there’s more beyond that, that improvement is both possible and in some ways, inevitable. whatever ‘point’ you think you’re at, you’re not. you’re not a lost cause. you didn’t survive everything so far, for nothing. so please, please don’t get lost in the notion that killing yourself is a guaranteed act, because it’s not. it’s easy to believe that when you’re spiraling, but spirals always come to an end, through self awareness or natural progression or medical attention. listen, you’re here and you’re trying and that is quite literally the entire point. you’re worth so much, and so is your life. i couldn’t be more proud of you, and i want you to stick around so that someday you’ll see it for yourself. i’m really glad i was able to bring you some comfort. it makes me want to cry that you sent this and that you’re thinking of me. so know i’m thinking of you too. that so many people care for your presence even if you dont know it. please reconsider, please try to regroup and look at your options. if you want to talk, dont hesitate at all to message me. i know you said you’re shy, but so am i! King of Prism SSS Episode 6 commentary (Minato)

The final episode of Part 2!

This was originally my favorite of the three episodes we are shown in the theatrical “Part 2″. But it was also the one I was most awake for at the time haha. Nowadays I think Joji’s is probably my favorite of the Part 2 episodes, but this one still has a very, very special place in my heart......... AS BIG AS THE OCEAN.......... 

And right off the bat we’re referencing the hidden curry subplot in Pride the Hero. Well, maybe it was obvious to some people, but I definitely wouldn’t have fully known about this subplot without reading about it. Basically early on in Pride the Hero there is a scene where Hiro casually refuses to eat Minato’s curry. Minato can be seen working on his recipe during the movie, but in the end it’s Kouji’s honey/apple curry recipe which gets Hiro back on his feet. Minato sees this as a failure on his part. 

If there is ever a scene where anyone is crying (there will be a few more examples of this before the end of SSS) take a look at Leo. If anyone else is crying, it’s basically guaranteed that Leo is also crying too. He doesn’t even know why Minato is crying here!!! LeoooooOOO..............

Everyone always cheers for Taiga here! Good job.

Okay, according to the Part 2 pamphlet, from left to right...

Misaki, Nagisa, Gen, Kou, Shiho. 

They all have sort of marine-related names. (cape, shore, broadside of a ship, sailing, saltwater...)

And these two we already met in Young of Prism. 

(Ushio means tide, Tsubasa means wing....)

I really love the voice work on Shiho here. She really sounds so natural. So cute. Favorite Minato sibling.

I know I said Yukinojo’s grandpa was best King of Prism old man, but I’m not sure anymore. Minato’s grandpa is also in the running ahah. I love his intense drama and yet down to typical old man-ness at the same time. HAVE A FISH.

OVER RAIN

Okay this one is forgivable because he says their abbreviated name “O-Ba-Re” which I always struggle to translate. Usually I just spell it all out or put OtR.

It was established in this episode that Minato can taste when something has been made with love. 

This means that Yamada-san’s ramen noodles were clearly MADE WITH LOVE at least.

I think at one point I posted a shitty out of context spoiler about the DARK HISTORY of Edel Rose. Here you go ahah. 

The cheering audience loves Yukinojo’s reaction here. Everyone be like.... nu nu nu nu nu nu..............

This is the only time I know Taiga has been associated with soba except for when they just kind of decided to make it his food item on Prism Rush........ (because I guess pudding a la mode wasn’t a thing back then..............) 

Minato’s reaction is notably a bit more low key than the other boys during Kakeru’s turn.

Kakeru’s catering WASNT MADE WITH LOVE 

Every time I see this I think to myself that I have got to figure out where this is and go there. But I haven’t yet. 

Shizuoka isn’t that far from me and I go there every few months or so for Love Live stuff or to visit Shizuoka Prism Stone, etc. A few days before Part 2 premiered I was actually in Shizuoka and actually spent a good amount of time thinking of things I might see from Shizuoka in Minato’s episode. I was at a tourist attraction (Izu-Mito Sea Paradise) where I went to the snack bar and noticed they had Mishima croquettes. It was the first time I had heard of them. But I decided on something else instead. 

So every time I see this, I think......... should have got the croquette....... 

(and now I must live with the regret.............. forever......................) 

I talk a lot about how this or that is art in SSS. 

But Minato meeting Kouji REALLY IS ART 

In the stream someone called this a “prismgasm” and now I can’t get that out of my head thanks.................................

I love how Minato is not the first, but SECOND Edel Rose boy just entered into Edel Rose against his will by a family member ahaah. (After Taiga by his sister.) 

Okay so, let’s pause for a minute. 

As you can see here this is a senior high school application. So this means Minato was never in the junior high division of Kakyouin Academy and went straight to senior high. 

If we rewind back to Kakeru’s episode, you’ll remember that there was a flashback where Yukinojo met Kakeru back in the heyday of Edel Rose, and they were both wearing junior high uniforms. So this means that a.) The first member of the seven to enter Edel Rose was probably Yukinojo and b.) Kakeru and Yukinojo are the two who have known each other the longest. 

I don’t think you can make an exact timeline of who joined when, but it’s possible to piece together a rough estimate of the order everyone joined by the end of SSS.

So this actually destroys my headcanon that the reason Minato calls Kakeru “Kazuo” is because they have known each other the longest and he knew him before he was Kakeru. So now I don’t know what to think about that anymore ahah. 

Anyway Minato why are you taking the Shinkansen to Tokyo. It’s only like 3 hours from Shizuoka!!! That is insanely close (...... from my perspective...............) what a waste of money haha. 

Favorite Minato face of all time by far. 

Oh gosh this scene. This scene. Where do I even begin. I love, LOVED seeing this side of Minato. He’s always everyone’s rock (excuse me harbor) so it’s really mindblowing to actually see him all nervous and flustered and just oh gosh it made me love him so much more. 

And not to mention Kouji just dragging a boy he’s known for three seconds to eat a children’s lunch......

Everyone goes nuts for this at cheering and agrees they still want to eat this kind of lunch as an adult. I guess I don’t quite understand because I was never a child in Japan haha. But this was the only moment at the mostly quiet 8am showing (when I saw it for the first time) where I could hear people laughing/freaking out.

I have mentioned this already but I just have to say I really love this line. This moment. This whole concept. Minato can taste love. 

I didn’t think it was noticeable from Young of Prism, but when we actually met all of Minato’s siblings and saw that Tsubasa is basically the only one who doesn’t have a marine color scheme or a directly marine-related name.... Even before this scene in the back of my head I was like..... hm...... 

The least they could have done was given her a marine-themed name geez

I had to go back and slightly change some wording in my Young of Prism translation because of this reveal.

It’s not “a” new dorm, he’s probably talking about the new dorm that the new boys still live in (but our seven moved back here by choice in episode 1 remember........)

This is another scene where I’m kinda wondering if this plot thread seems sudden or out of place to people who don’t know the side materials. 

Minato’s confidence issues have come up on Prism Rush several times before, and I was actually waiting the entire episode for it to come up here. 

This episode in particular really requires a lot of extracurricular homework doesn’t it....

I believe this is mistranslated. He used ~すら which I think should be “All I could do is watch......” JLPT N1 textbook grammar Minato why......

The least they could do would be to leave a note that says “Minato” means “harbor” but that’s TOO MUCH TIME I GUESS GOTTA GET THOSE EPISODES OUT IN AN HOUR CHOP CHOP

I really like this speech. It’s shockingly down to earth and refreshing. Especially compared to Kakeru and Yukinojo’s episodes. 

Like the other members of the old dudes club, Minato’s family has a tradition too. But Minato is not particularly expected to carry on that tradition since his family realizes it’s no longer viable 

Instead they encourage Minato to enjoy his youth, find himself, and if he doesn’t become a star that’s OK.... of course he can come home anytime. 

Nrrrgggghhaaaaaa such good supportive parents ahhhhhhh

Been waiting a couple months to read this. In the theater all I can ever catch is Shin’s message. (But still the point comes across.) 

“Well that was fast” - the cheering audience (about the sunrise, ruining this beautiful scene lol)

THIS.... SHOW.........

So, a while back I casually mentioned that Kakeru and Taiga’s prism shows were in my top three. Nobody ever asked what the third one was. But. It was this one. I LOVE this show.

From the very moment Minato looks up at the camera here I just get goosebumps from head to toe, and it just stays throughout the entire show. No other prism show has ever made me feel quite this way. 

So towards the end of the Prism Rush Main Story, there is a chapter where the boys are talking about what they want to accomplish in the Prism King Cup. (This is before they know who will be in it.) Minato has a line where he talks about wanting to perform a show like warm soup or something, and as soon as I saw this show I just immediately remembered that line and thought THATS IT. 

THAT’S IT

Even though there are so many cool colors, somehow, it just makes me feel so.... warm. 

Although it didn’t stay for as aggressively long as Joji’s did, this was the first song from Part 2 which got stuck in my head and it’s just... it’s so nice........

Also, even though I have complained about Minato always getting stuck in chef uniforms for his performance outfits I do kinda like this one. It’s the floating jellyfish scarf thing at the back that makes it I think. (I have no idea how else to describe that.) 

I hope he gets a sailor suit next time though eheh. (I like how Minato has a marine theme now too, not just food. Well, he probably always did but it’s more prominent now.)

So Minato technically lost to Joji, but the individual match-ups mean nothing in the long run. (Except for you know..... the last one...... when it’s down to the wire and each side has put up their strongest member...............if you remember who that match-up is--)

It may not be obvious at first, but Minato’s prism show was pretty low leveled compared to the other boys. 

(He did start doing prism shows later than most of them after all... Um Shin being a special case.) 

He only did two jumps and they weren’t even connected. So that being considered, this score is pretty amazing for him. It makes me think the Shuffle members must only be doing like one jump per show to be scoring in the 7000s geez. 

And thus the curry plot goes full circle. Minato, good for you. 

Thus ends what I know as the Part 2 episodes, and also the halfway mark of the series. (There are 12 episodes in all.) Ready or not, on to Part 3.

I really like and have been looking forward to the Part 3 episodes. I think they are a little better than Part 2, but maybe not quite as good as Part 1. I also think Part 3 is possibly the most heart-wrenching collection.... Leo’s episode in particular, which is coming up next week, I have a very strong and personal reaction to. That combined with feeling the need to point out all the PriPara references may mean my post for next week may take some extra time and be frighteningly long ahah..... ha.......

Guess Who Wrote Post-Episode-It’s-Nearly-Midnight-I-Have-No-Self-Control Fanfic Again

It’s Me ft. Jester’s having a bad time in this Cave of Horrors and honestly thats a mood and Beau’s here to give hugs and comfort please someone give jester a hug

Caleb was the first among them to fall asleep. Perhaps pass out was the more accurate term, but either way it ended with him sprawled out in the middle of his dome, limbs spread wide and eyes closed. Once he was out the rest of them soon followed, with Caduceus lying on his side close to the edge, Yasha sleeping ramrod straight — Beau really had no idea how she was able to go to sleep in one position and wake up the next morning in the exact same position, but Yasha always managed it — and Nott curling up next to Caleb.

Fjord at first claimed he would stay up for first watch with Beau, only to change his mind and asking her to wake him up for second watch instead. Beau herself was too tired to needle him about it, resigning herself to a solo watch as Fjord claimed a position next to Yasha, and Jester laid down on her back, her head less than a foot away from Beau.

She sighed deeply, looking out through the barrier of their magical hut to their twisted surroundings. This cave, or tomb, or whatever the hell it was… she couldn’t wait until they were done with it and they could leave.

Dimly, she registered Jester shifting close by, shuffling a little closer towards her, angling her back so that it nearly pushed up against her leg. Beau watched her silently for a moment, before she realised that Jester’s eyes weren’t closed. Her face was mostly turned away from her, but in the darkness she could barely see Jester’s eyelashes blink every few seconds, as if she weren’t even trying to get to sleep.

“Jessie?” Her voice came out as an almost croaky whisper, her exhaustion plainly evident. “You alright?”

“Mmhmm.” Came the hummed reply, though she shuffled even closer to Beau, her back now pressing against the side of her leg, her head just in front of her knee as Beau sat cross-legged on the ground.

“Can’t sleep?” To be honest, Beau wanted to be asleep. After the day she’d had, the day they’d all had, nothing seemed nicer than a good sleep.

But they were deep in this hellhole, so someone needed to be on watch. A selfish part of her had hoped for someone to share it with. But she wasn’t going to ask, not when everyone else was in just as much, if not more, need of a good sleep as her.

Absentmindedly, Beau petted the top of Jester’s shoulder, in what she hoped was at least a vaguely reassuring gesture. “It’s okay if you can’t,” She mumbled, wary that some of the others. Might not be fully asleep yet. “Could use some company.”

Jester remained still and silent for a moment, before shifting up into a sitting position, arranging herself so that she was next to Beau, but facing her. Her head hung low and her shoulders were tenses, hangs wrung together.

“This place…” Jester’s head tilted up and to the side, looking out into the darkness, the unknown. “It’s really scary Beau.”

Beau thought of everything that had already happened since they’d entered this place. The spiders, the crying statues, the lightning and mist-monster filled stairwell and the lair full of zombies. In the back of her head she remembered the murmuring of voices that had burrowed and screamed into her brain, and she let her hands fall loosely in her lap.

“Yeah. It is.” She stared down at her hands for a moment before looking around at the others, who all seemed undisturbed. None of them had gotten through today unscathed, even if some had undoubtedly had it worse than others. All of them had gotten steadily more freaked out and unsettled with each successive nightmare.

“It just keeps getting worse and worse.” Jester tilted herself around so that she was more side by side with Beau, leaning into her, her head resting on Beau’s shoulder. Automatically Beau tried to shift to make it more comfortable for both of them and to try and reassure Jester, looping her arm around Jester’s shoulders, tilting her head so that Jester’s horn didn’t poke into her skin. “There’s so many monsters and evil things and we still don’t know what this Oban guy wants with Yasha and…”

Her voice was shaky, breath hitching as Jester sniffled. “I want to get out of here.”

“Me too.” Beau tugged Jester in a little closer, linking her other arm so that she was giving her a gentle side-hug. “It’s been kinda shit, hasn’t it.”

Jester gave half a chuckle, which Beau chalked up as a success. “There were spiders and mist monsters and zombies… so many zombies…”

“Hey, you killed a bunch of them all by yourself.”

“It was mostly the Traveller.” Jester shrugged, and Beau couldn’t help but feel even more concerned than she already was. Jester loved to take credit for her accomplishments. If anything, she had a tendency to brag about them sometimes, not downplay them.

“Maybe, but without you he wouldn’t have been able to do jack shit.” Beau said firmly. “He’d be nowhere if you weren’t out here being his biggest follower.”

Jester didn’t directly respond, exhaling slowly. Her body still seemed stiff, and Beau just wasn’t sure what to say. She wasn’t a comforter, she didn’t know how to talk to people. So she did what she always did when she didn’t know what to say; say the very first thing that popped into her head and hope it turned out for the best.

“I heard you turned into a giant bird for a bit.” She mumbled. “Didn’t see it, cause of all the mist, but I bet it was cool.”

Jester exhaled again, but this time when she spoke, she sounded a little more steady. “It was really cool.”

“Maybe you’ll get another opportunity to turn into a bird. Then I’d get to see it.”

“Maybe.” Despite the very slight uptick in her mood, Beau could still sense the undercurrent of exhaustion, a subdued tension that was very unlike Jester.

“Do you want to go to sleep? I don’t think I’m as good at massages as you were but I can give it a shot.” Beau let loose the arm that was hugging around Jester’s front, instead tucking loose strands of Jester’s hair behind her ears and horns.

Jester chuckled again, twice this time. “No, you’ll never be able to do it as well as my Mama. I just want this to be over with.”

“We’ll get through it. I’ll make sure of it.” It felt like an eternity ago when Beau had promised she would kill and die for the Mighty Nein, and Jester had promised she would heal her back. Many things had changed since that day, but that promise wasn’t one of them.

Jester hummed an acknowledgement, sliding down a little until her head rested on Beau’s thigh. Beau kept running her fingers through Jester’s hair, threading out the knots.

They settled into a soft silence, before Jester broke it. “Is your hand okay?”

Beau glanced at her hand. She’d taken her lightning gauntlets off once they’d settled down in the hut for the night, leaving her hands covered mostly by her wraps. Her right hand was fine, but the wraps on her left hand had been burned away, disintegrated to her wrist by the weird lightning crystal she’d pulled out of its circuit. Faded, jagged marks crisscrossed her hand, the burns and injury healed up by Caduceus’ magic throughout the day, but not fully erased.

If it scarred that way, it would probably look pretty badass. But healing magic could be finicky with things like that. “It doesn’t hurt anymore. I’m fine.”

“It looked really bad before.”

“Yeah, it hurt like a motherfuck. Kind of like after I’d pulled Nott from the lava. That hurt way more.” Beau surveyed the ruined wraps on her left hand, judging how much could be salvaged.

“That was scary too.” Jester’s legs curled up to her chest. “We keep ending up doing scary things, all the time.”

“Not all the time. Sometimes we do fun things like stealing boats and buying animals off the side of the road.” Beau started making loose braids in Jester’s hair, matching the tiny smile that was beginning to grow on the tiefling’s face.

“I do want to see Nugget and Sprinkle again. But I’m glad they’re not here.”

“Oh, when we get back they won’t be able to leave you alone. Poor Yeza, having to deal with them both by himself.”

Jester giggled. “I bet they miss me so much.”

Inwardly, Beau had a feeling that Sprinkle at least was probably enjoying his vacation very much, but she wasn’t about to say that. Sprinkle was an ungrateful weasel. “They definitely do.”

They lapsed into silence once more, but this time Jester seemed to relax with each exhale, one hand resting on Beau’s knees and languidly drawing circles on it. Her eyes slowly began to close, and Beau continued to braid her hair, aware that she was now permanently stuck in this spot unless she wanted to disturb Jester, and she did not want to disturb Jester.

“Beau?” Jester spoke under her breath, barely audible.

“Yeah?”

“It’ll probably be scary tomorrow too.” It was a simple statement, an anticipation of what they might have to face when they woke up. Hell, there was no guarantee they’d even get through this rest without something awful interrupting them.

“Probably.” Beau mumbled, unbraiding a chunk of hair and running her fingers through it. “But we’ll all be there. We’ll get through it.”

It probably wasn’t the most reassuring thing she could’ve said. But Jester wasn’t an idiot, and she knew just as well as the rest of them that this particular nightmare was probably far from over. All Beau could offer was the fact that she’d be standing beside her. Hopefully that would be enough.

Jester didn’t respond to that, and as the minutes ticked by her breathing began to even out, her eyes slipping shut. Beau continued to slowly comb through her hair with her fingers for a little while longer, half thinking about how she’d wake up Fjord without disturbing Jester, and half thinking about what they’d talked about.

She couldn’t wait til they were done with this place. Staring out past the safe wall of their hut, Beau felt a shiver run down her spine, the whispers swelling up in the back of her mind, just far enough away that they couldn’t do anything, couldn’t blank out her mind and leave her stunned again, but she couldn’t forget that they were there.

Beau looked down at Jester, curled up with her head resting on Beau’s leg. She tried to push the thoughts of the whispers out of her head, glancing at each of the Mighty Nein in turn, double-checking they were all fine. Well, relatively fine.

Tomorrow probably would be scary, just like today had been. Probably even more so. But Beau wasn’t about to let her friends face it on her own. It was a comfort that they’d be there so she wouldn’t be alone too.

So! We’ve reached the final stretch of season two and as of this current moment, we have 5 episodes of Osomatsu left. I’ll be so sad to see it end but I have high hopes for a third season and/or a movie announcement in the near future. It’s still a profitable franchise so if they want to keep raking in the dough, they’ll give us more NEETs. Simple as that. With that being said, I thought it might be fun to talk about anime we’re interested in watching next season so feel free to come in and check out my shit taste if you dare.

Gegege no Kitarou

The original manga series was created in 1960 by Shigeru Mizuki. It is best known for its popularization of the folklore creatures known as yōkai, a class of spirit-monster to which all of the main characters belong. The first anime series aired in 1968 and the franchise is one of the most beloved classic’s in the medium. You’ve probably seen parodies of it in various shows and may have not even realized it! I’m a sucker for this kind of spooky stuff (Hell Sensei Nube, Dororon Enma-kun, etc) so this was an immediate yes for me. I personally cannot wait to see what they do with this new iteration and given how unpredictable it is to gauge how reboots/remakes will turn out, it could really go either way! Expect good old episodic fun that will more than likely revolve around a monster of the week formula.

I would like to say that given its notoriety, its pretty much guaranteed a solid series but I thought the same thing about Sailor Moon and look at how bad Crystal turned out.

Plot: Saichi Sugimoto, a survivor of the battle of 203 Hill in the Russo-Japanese War has become a miner in Hokkaido in order to provide for the widow of his dead comrade, Toraji. He hears a dubious story of hidden Ainu gold (worth about 800,000,000 JPY / 6,636,000 USD) stashed by a criminal group, and accidentally finds clues to its location. After being attacked by the 7th Division of the Imperial Japanese Army and other mysterious groups, he decides to search for the gold along with an Ainu girl, Asirpa, who rescues him from Hokkaido's harsh northern wilderness.

This one is very interesting to me because the Ainu people are a minority in their own country and as such they are not depicted very often in anime/manga. The only other Ainu characters I can think of right off the top of my head are Horohoro and his family from Shaman King but from what I’ve heard, it seems like the author has gone to great lengths to accurately depict their culture. I’m quite interested to see how this turns out both in terms of quality and how well the manga itself is adapted given how it features brutality and ridiculously comedic scenes both.

Hinamatsuri 

Based on a comedy seinen manga series written and illustrated by Ootake Masao.

Plot: One night, a strange object falls on the head of Nitta, a member of the yakuza. Inside the box is a strange young girl named Hina. She has tremendous supernatural powers, and Nitta finds himself reluctantly taking her in. Her powers can come in handy for his yakuza business, but he also runs the risk of her using them on him! Not to mention, if she doesn't use her powers, she will eventually go berserk and destroy everything around her. Nitta and Hina's strange life together is just beginning...

If that summary doesn’t sell you then I don’t know what will. We’ve all seen the tried and true trope of a-mysterious-girl-falls-out-of-the-sky-and-finds-herself-in-the-care-of-a-young-man but this time, it involves a yakuza member rather than a hapless high school boy so that alone has piqued my interest. The fact its a seinen manga also gives me hope that it won’t be plagued by overdone cliches and honestly I’m expecting plenty of wacky gang shenanigans involving various plot points only the yakuza could find themselves in.

Sweet Punishment (Amai Choubatsu: Watashi wa Kanshu Sen`you Pet)

Look. I don’t care that these are going to be shorts. I will check out the first episode the very second it is available and if it doesn’t disappoint then it just might become my new obsession. I have been waiting for something like this that actually delivers and honestly if I get blue balled then there is a good chance I might riot. 

Plot: (Based on Izumi Shou's josei smut manga.) The story is set in a prison in the near future. It revolves around Saotome Hina, imprisoned despite her innocence, and the elegant yet sadistic guard Miyoujin Aki. Hina's heart and body are at the mercy of Myojin's "heartless yet sweet domination" from physical examinations to her lovers' prison visits.

Okay, so right off the bat that doesn’t sound too promising does it? Hey, I wasn’t completely sold either. I had my doubts concerning the delivery of this supposed ‘heartless yet sweet domination’ up until the point that I started reading the manga and only a few pages in, he was giving her a very thorough physical exam. If the anime actually pulls through and ends up not being a cock tease then I will be extremely pleased. Honestly I wasn’t expecting the manga to go THAT hard so hopefully they realize the fans want more of that instead of pussyfooting around with awkward symbolism such as the classic ‘falling rose petals’ scene.

Cutie Honey Universe

A 1973 Shonen manga series written and illustrated by Go Nagai (author of Devilman, Cyborg009 and Mazinger). The original anime also started broadcast in the same year. 

Plot:  Honey Kisaragi is a regular Catholic schoolgirl, until the day her father is murdered by the "Panther Claw" organization. After his death, she learns she is actually an android created by him and within her is a device that can "create matter from the air".  With her cry of "Honey Flash!" she can use the device to transform into the sword-wielding red-haired superhero, Cutie Honey.

So, just like with Keitaro this is a legitimate classic getting a reboot and this was also an immediate yes for me. I’m a glutton for punishment as I just love to see how well or how bad these sorts of things turn out, but I also truly enjoy comparing old character designs to new ones. Fun fact: Honey is widely accepted as being the precursor for modern mahou shojo because of its flashy transformation scenes so this should a real treat for fans of the genre if you can get past the gratuitous T&A. I don’t expect this to be a big hit on Tumblr because it will very likely be just as sexualized as the previous iterations but such things do not bother me personally so eh.

Alright, thats it for my definite ‘yes’ list and every other series airing this spring is going on my back log. I’m a completionist and I try my best to watch every single anime I can find subbed even if its the biggest steaming pile of shit ever created. Trust me when I say that I’ve sat through quite a few of those. However, I do have a few notable mentions that I’m somewhat looking forward to in a far off, when they’re completed sort of way so I can binge them in one or two sittings. 

Caligula 

Plot: μ is a virtual idol who performs user-inputted songs and gains self-awareness through exposure to users' bitter feelings and dissatisfaction toward reality. Wanting to save humanity - which she believes is continuously suffering - she lures people to a virtual reality world called Mobius with her songs. She then imprisons them in Mobius, thinking they will be free from the suffering of reality and that all their wishes will come true. Nine members of the "Going Home Club," a club that was formed because the characters want to escape from Mobius and go home, try to find a way out.

Devil’s Line

Plot: Tsukasa, a college student, is rescued from an attack by a devil, one of many vampires that can blend in among the human population. Anzai, her savior, is a half-devil who exploits his supernatural gifts as a member of a shadowy police task force that specializes in devil-related crime in Tokyo. As Anzai continues to keep guard over Tsukasa, the two quickly forge a tentative bond-one that Anzai fears will test his iron-clad rule of never drinking human blood...

Dorei-ku The Animation

Plot: What if you could enslave anyone you ever wanted? Well, this comes close. The SCM lets you enslave anyone who is also wearing an SCM, at a price. One must win over the other, at anything, in order for the other to become their slave.

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi

Plot:  The series centers on a female college student named Aoi, who inherited the ability to see spirits from her late grandfather. Aoi prides herself on her cooking, and one day she's feeding some agricultural spirits when suddenly a god and the master of the "Tenshinya" (Heavenly Inn) appears and takes Aoi away. He says that due to her grandfather's debts, she must become his bride. Aoi hates this idea and instead declares that she will pay back her grandfather's debt by working at the Tenshinya.

As an added bonus, I’m gonna go ahead and predict that the Legend of the Galactic Heroes reboot will be the biggest disappoint of the season. I mean, compare the original to the new one on design alone.

Also the most wtf anime will almost assuredly be  Uma Musume: Pretty Derby which is simply about moefied race horses. The girls are horses who apparently run track at school. Yeah. Real thought provoking, I know.

You jolted up with a gasped, seeing how it was morning already. You were glad no one killed or tried to kill you in your sleep. You woke up to Jake screaming at you and Sam to wake up. You looked over at Sam to see him jolt awake from the nightmare he probably had.

“Sam! Y/N! Wake up! Ava is missing!” Jake said, his eyes wide. That got you and Sam right up and the three of you rushed outside to go find her.

“Y/N will come with me and Jake, just try and find her.” Sam ordered, splitting from Jake before he had a chance to say anything else. You followed Sam, looking in the other houses and buildings that littered the town.

“She isn’t here.” You said, giving up. There were so many buildings here, you doubted she went this far out.

“Okay, let’s go back.” Sam said, walking back to the barn where he agreed to meet Jake at. As you got closer, you head an ear-splitting scream that came from Ava. It seemed as if she was back at the barn already.

You and Sam rushed to the barn, busting in. You gasped in horror and grabbed at Sam’s arm from what you saw. Ava, crying her eyes out at the fact that Andy was now lying in a pool of his own blood, dead.

“Oh! Sam! I just found him like this!” Ava screamed dramatically, making you narrow your eyes at her.

“What the hell happened?” He demanded.

“I don’t know!” Her voice squeaked up a bit.

“Cut the bullshit act, Ava.” You said with a glare. She glared at you, taking a step towards you.

“Excuse me? Our friend is dead!”

“Friend? Sam, come on. She is being such a drama queen right now. I am an expert on fake crying and that, right there, was an example of this. She did this to Andy! She killed him!” You said, accusing her.

“How dare you think I did this!” Ava yelled at you.

“Come on, Y/N, I don’t think we should blame her.” Sam started to say.

“Sam, you know how good I am when it comes to lying. I know she is lying,” You said, looking at the window sill behind Sam and nodding. You pointed to it and made Sam look. “How else do you explain the break in the salt? Andy wouldn’t do it, not when he was always scared of what was happening.”

“You believe her, Sam?” Ava asked, scoffing.

“You know, she’s right. You’ve been here for five months. You’re the only one with all that time you can’t account for. Plus, that headache you got? Right when the demon got Lily.” Sam said, putting you behind him. Ava went from this scared, overdramatic girl to one who was laughing, wiping the tears from her face.

“I had you two going, though, didn’t I? Yeah, I’ve been here a long time. However, I was never alone. People just kept showing up. Children, like us who came in batches of three or four at a time.” She said with a smile.

“You killed them? All of them?” Sam asked, horrified.

“I’m the undefeated heavyweight champ.” Ava said, proudly.

“Oh, my God.” You muttered. If only looks could kill…

“I don’t think God had much to do with this, Y/N.”

“How could you?” Sam asked, shocked still.

“I had no choice. It's me or them. After a while, it was easy. It was even kind of fun. I just stopped fighting who we are, Sam. If you'd just quit your hand-wringing and open yourself up, you have no idea what you can do. The learning curve is so fast, it’s crazy, the switches that just flip in your brain. I can’t believe I started out just having dreams. Do you know what I can do now?”

“Control demons.” You said.

“Ah, you’re quick which is good. You aren’t going to make it out of here alive, Y/N. It’s either going to be me, Jake or Sam who will kill you and I can guarantee that.” She raised her hand and you looked behind you to see the cloud of black smoke come through the window again.

Before anything could happen, Jake came up behind Ava and grabbed her head, snapping her neck easily, killing her. The demonic smoke left back out the window, glad not to be controlled anymore. You gasped and watched as he dropped her body like it was nothing.

He looked up and stared at you, the evil glint you saw when you first met him was now back in his eyes.

“Sam, come on.” You said, grabbing his hand and pulling him out of the barn. Jake chuckled and he followed you two, murder in his eyes.

“Jake, whatever you’re thinking, don’t. The demon is gone now. I think we can leave.” Sam said, seeing the look in his eyes. He had eyes for you but he wanted to murder you since it was what he was told to do.

“No, only one of us is making it out of here alive and it’s going to be me. But first, she needs to die. I had a vision of the Yellow-eyed Demon. He told me what needs to be done and I have to follow his orders or I will be the one to die and that isn’t happening.”

“No, Jake, you can’t listen to him. He lies, Y/N isn’t going to die. Neither of us will. We are going to get out here. We can kill that bastard together.” Sam tried to reason with him.

“How do I know you won’t turn on me?” He asked, unsure. You thought it would be best if you kept quiet, afraid of triggering something in him. He was already much stronger than you so it wouldn’t be a fair fight.

“We won’t, Jake.” You said very gently.

“I don’t know that.”

“Okay, look,” Sam said, taking the knife you found earlier and showed Jake, placing it on the ground to show some peace between the three of you. “Just come with us, Jake. Don’t play into his games. You’ll end up dead.”

After a moment or two, Jake nodded and placed his weapon on the ground next to Sam’s. You had a feeling this wasn’t over yet and that feeling proved to be true when Jake punched Sam. Jake, already being super duper strong, sent Sam flying through the air, crashing on the ground.

“Sam!” You yelled, glaring at Jake who was walking to you.

“You’re turn sweetheart. I’ll make it quick because you seem like a nice girl but this has to be done.” He said, getting closer to you. Panic surged through your veins and you didn’t know what to do. The weapons were behind Jake and Sam wasn’t much help right now. He will kill you if he got his hands on you.

You felt yourself panicking even more when he got closer and you shot your hands out to protect yourself. A burst of magic left your hands, hitting Jake right in the stomach, sending him toppling over. You gasped, thinking how you thought only anger or Dean being hurt would make this magic come out. But you guess panic will do the same thing.

Good to know.

You rushed to Sam, sliding on the ground when you got close enough to him. He groaned and looked at you, sitting up.

“Sam, we have to go.” You looked up to see and even more pissed off Jake come storming to you. He realized that he needed to get rid of Sam before he can get to you. You barely got Sam up on his feet when you felt the wind being knocked out of you.

Jake had used half of his strength to push you away from Sam, throwing in a few punches. Sam had enough of this and he punched back, fighting with Jake. You tried to catch your breath and you looked up to see Jake and Sam fighting, Jake winning.

You groaned and forced yourself to get on your feet, looking around until you spotted the weapons on the ground. You looked back at Jake and Sam, knowing Sam could hold his own for a while. You slowly moved to the weapons, keeping an eye on Jake who seemed to be too busy with Sam to even notice you.

You grabbed the iron rod that Jake carried instead of the knife. You didn’t want to kill him, no, just knock him out until you figured out what to do with him. You finally got enough air in your lungs to start running and when Sam looked like he had enough, you raised the rod, striking Jake on the head very hard.

You made sure not to kill him but he did go down, unconscious. You dropped the rod and then that’s when you heard it.

“Y/N! Sam!” You looked up and smiled when you saw Dean and your dad, with flashlights.

“Dean!” You were so glad he was okay. You grabbed Sam’s arm and put it over your shoulder to help him walk since he was weak from the beating he took.

“Dean! Bobby!” Sam said with a weak smile, slowly but surely walking closer to them.

“Sam! Y/N! Look out!” You only had enough time to turn your head to see Jake coming at you with the knife. Your eyes widened and you shoved Sam out of the way so he wouldn’t get hurt. You were going to use your magic but it was too late.

You froze when the blade of the knife sliced through your body, coming out the other end. You gasped and looked down, seeing the bloody tip of the blade that was right through your chest. Jake twisted the knife and you gurgled up blood as he pulled you closer.

“I told you, you weren’t leaving here alive.” He said before taking the blade out and running away.

“No!!!” Dean yelled, making a run for you as you fell to the ground and on your knees. You knew what was going to happen next but you weren’t sure if Dean or even Sam was ready for that. Dean slid to the ground in front of you, seeing how pale you looked.

He grabbed at your shirt, trying to get you to look at him but you could feel your life slipping away. Sam rushed and got up, not caring about himself as he checked your wound.

“Dean, it’s bad.” Sam said. Dean pressed his hand over your wound but the blood kept pouring out. You leaned forward in Dean’s arms, too weak to hold yourself up.

“Hey, Y/N, look at me, okay? It’s not that bad. Don’t listen to Sam. Y/N! Y/N, please look at me,” Dean said with tears in his eyes., You so badly wanted to look at him but you didn’t; couldn’t. “Don’t worry, we’re going to patch you right up. You’re going to be as good as new.” Dean touched your face but you were just on the brink of death. You watched as Bobby ran after Jake, leaving you alone with Sam and Dean.

“Dad…” You said as you took your last breath. Your body slumped forward in Dean’s arms as your eyes slid close, lying in Dean’s arms.

“No! No, no, no, no, no, Oh, God, Sammy! Sam! Do something! No!!!” Dean yelled, letting the tears fall freely. There was nothing Sam or even Dean could do now.

You were dead.

Made In Abyss: The Story

Oh man.. I have so much to say. *no spoilers in first paragraph*

I apologize in advance if I left out anything important like Kiyui, I’m trying to get at what impacted me most.  Note: I also apologize for switching back and forth between “They” and “She” on Pronouns for Nanachi. I know I did that a couple times and forgot to correct it. The general consensus is that Nanachi is female but No one really knows and its never told in the show so the pronouns **should** be ‘they’ but I’m very tired. I’ve been writing this for upwards of 11 hours now (with breaks) and I cba to go and fix it.  I’m going to explain this story in grave detail in this post, and explain how I feel about it in another. 

So first let me tell you what this anime is about without spoilers, to see if you wanna watch it yourself before I start spoiling. The main character is a young girl (12) named Riko. She lives in an orphanage which teaches their students to cave raid. How that being said, her entire city/town thing has a huge never-ending abyss in the middle of it. This abyss is what they are descending and raiding. How far you can go down is determined by the color whistle you wear. This is because as you descend the abyss, the further and further you go down, the harder it is to come up. This is called ‘The curse of the abyss’. Riko quickly learns that her mother, a legendary white whistle, is possibly still alive down in the abyss. After learning this, Riko decides to go after her, knowing fully well that she will never return to her home-town, or see any of her friends again. Now these are main things in the anime, that everyone knows, and they contain no spoilers as to how or why.  This is one of the most screwed up, saddest most terrible anime’s I’ve seen. And I love it so much. Terrible as in tragic and heartbreaking, and I thought this was going to be one of the cutest anime’s I’ve seen. I was WRONG. Please do not watch this anime if you are easily triggered. 

***SPOILERS AHEAD***

Okay man, I don’t even know where to begin. I’m probably going to whizz past the first like 9 episodes because the last 3 are where the story gets real. I’ll dive right in to say that Riko, while in the abyss, Riko gets attacked by a creature known as the  Crimson Splitjaw. She tries to run away, but to no avail, the Spitjaw corners her. After the Spitjaw corners her this huge flash of light burns through everything in the vicinity and quickly scares off the spitjaw. Riko has no idea what just happened, and she ends up stumbling accross a boy, who seems to be a robot, seemingly the same age. His name came to be Reg. He has no recolection of who he is, or why he saved her. 

Riko and her friends manage to sneak Reg into the orphanage and eventually trick its staff into thinking he is an orphan. Shortly after this, Riko recieves word that her Mother, Lyza the Annihilator’s, white whistle had been found, along with a couple of note pages. One of these notes was addressed to Riko, and it simply said “At the Netherworld’s bottom, I’ll be waiting.” So in short, Riko said “fuck it” and was like “I’m going to look for my mom” and Reg was like:

(sorry I had to, no more out of context memes)  Riko’s friends help guide her to an area of the abyss that isn’t heavily guarded and that her and Reg and his stretchy arm can descend into the abyss. The thing is, they have to get to the second layer before anyone finds them, otherwise they’ll take them back. When a red whistle (basically the lowest level, which they are) descends to the second layer, its considered suicide, and they stop searching.  I don’t remember when, but I do remember that at some point, Riko finds out that her mother actually gave birth to her in the abyss, and that they had to use a curse warding box to get her out alive. Only 2 white whistles in her mother’s squad made it. Her, and Ozen, the Immovable.  I also remember a black whistle telling them about Ozen living at a seeker camp in the Second Layer, the inverted forest. 

Upon reaching the seeker camp, Reg decides to throw his stretchy arms up to the balcony of the seeker camp to try to ascend (obviously, this will have some effect on riko) when someone grabs his hands. Who else but Ozen? Ozen offers them to stay the night with her at the camp while subordinate, Marulk (also a child) stays with them and hangs out with them to gather some information.That night, while they are asleep, Riko ends up needing to use the bathroom. Upon getting up to try to find it, she sees a creature that looks human, but is definitely missing parts. (I tried to upload a picture but Tumblr said no.) After she discovers this thing, she obviously gets spooked, as any 12 year old would, and runs back to the room and crawls in bed with Reg. The morning after, Ozen overhears Riko telling Marulk and Reg what she saw, then proceeds to tell Riko if she can’t handle the truth, to Forget what she saw completely. RIko being Riko, obviously follows her.

On her way up the stairs Ozen  went on to tell Riko that since Lyza’s whistle reached the surface, she is dead. The journey Riko is on to meet her mother is over. and she foudn the Whistle and Notes at a grave.   It is then that Ozen takes them to the curse warding box relic, where she explains more about Riko’s birth and the box. Riko was born stillborn, which means she was born dead, essentially, if you don’t know. But, because of Lyza’s love for her child, she wants to take her late daughter back up the abyss with her, and didn’t want her body to be deformed, so she used the curse warding box. Little did she know that this actually had resurecting powers, and brought Riko back to life from being stillborn. That monster Riko saw, was the result of Ozen putting her dead, cooked, dinner inside the box just to see what would happen.  Ozen mentioned that once brought back, the mysterious thing tried to get to the bottom of the abyss, just like Riko has the longing to reach the bottom.

“Whats interesting is, as soon as you began to move, you, as well as my meat dish, attempted to head to the center of the abyss. Why do you think that is? You of all people might have some thoughts on that. Youre essentially the same of that festering piece of meat.” were here exact words. Marulk then asks her to stop, but she doesn’t. Riko asks “Why would you say that to me?” And Ozen’s response is “Isn’t it obvious? I despise you and your half dead rotten soul” while reaching for Riko. Reg then stops her hand, andddd ozen proceeds to beat him to a bloody pulp. Riko tries to step in but with literaly just a flick of her wrist, Ozen sends riko flying accross the room. As a last resort to save Riko, Reg tries to use his incinerator, but Ozen, strong as she is, makes him point it at Riko, and at a last second he tfrees himself and shoots it up at the ceiling. Now, this royally pissed me off, as it should. She just beat up two children. Who does that??!

Reg passes out, as he does when he uses his incinerator, and wakes up to find a couple of random cave raiders with him, along side Riko and Marul, after Ozen pounds his metal... toppy, thing.. back into his skull. lol Riko obviously in distress hugs Reg crying hysterically.  One of the cave raiders then Reveals why Ozen did what she did. “I know you wanted to test Lyza’s kid and all but you kinda overdid it.” Reg is then outraged and called her fiasco a “sick act”. Her exact reply is “you had to be tested. And if I don’t go all out, I won’t get the point accross. You must know that I hate childish tricks.” And further goes on she never had any intention to actually kill either of them, just that no matter how hard she went, Reg wouldn’t break, so she got more and more into trying to do it. (She’s batshit crazy from the curse of the abyss) “The creatures that inhabit the deeper part of the abyss, they are going to be far more cunning and harsh than I am.” 

“If you continue going on in your current state, you’re going to end up as some poor creatures meal, or you’ll just end up as a bloody stain on the ground somewhere. That said, there’s no guarantee you wont end up the same while I try to beat you into shape. Oh thats right. There is one thing I was decieving you about. That grave I spoke of earlier. There’s no one buried there. Did you think I wouldn’t dig it up to see for myself? Lyza IS waiting for you down there, and you at least need to give it a shot.”  

Then, a cutscene appears showing Ozen and Lyza having a conversationwhile Lyza is just a small red whistle. “I’ve already kicked you twice and you keep coming back. What an unusual little kid you are.” Then some more dialogue not really story important(I don’t think) happens and Lyza asks Ozen to be her mentor. 

Then another appears, when Lyza is bragging to Ozen about her Black whistle where Lyza says “Ozen! Your personality is irredeemable! ...BUT you’re still the best mentor ever :3″  Which now explains why Ozen cared about making sure Reg and Riko are in shape enough to handle their adventure.

It is then that Ozen basically throws them into a forest for 10 days on their own, to see if they can survive, and if they do that means they are worthy enoughto train. Which, spoiler alert, they survive.

During their expedition Ozen ends up getting nostalgic about how Riko came to survive, and explains the story of how Lyza’s love (Riko’s father) had just died, and now her baby was stillborn. “How heartbreaking” She says. “I never wanted to see her in such a state” She speaks to herself, considering leaving the box with the child in it, and carrying and the relic they found up instead, as she turns back around to hear the so-thought-dead baby crying inside the curse-warding box. “You can relax child. I am cursed with a strong sense of duty.

When Riko and Reg come back from their training, Ozen explains that when she visited the 5th layer she intended to stay down there only for a few weeks, but when she resurfaced, it had been a couple of months. She then goes on to explain that they have no way of knowing how this time-warp manifests in the 6th or 7th layers, and that she has a feeling that not as much time has passed for lyza. Its been 10 years on the surface, but its a possibility that only a fraction of that time has gone by where she is, and that Lyza is most likely very much alive and well. 

After everyone says their goodbyes a new cutscene comes across as Ozen and Lyza, as a new mother, are having a conversation. ‘My daughter riko is incredibly prescious to me. No matter the relic or whatever else I could offer as payment, its not enough. Thanks to a miriad of priceless things that girl is alive right now. If I continue to stay with her, i’m liable to take away her right to set off on adventures of her own. Plus  I myself would likely give up trying to reach for the abyss. So before that happens, I’m going to head out, so my girl is free to choose the path she wishes.” She then asks Ozen to make sure to tell Riko “about how shes a living corpse”  about how its a miracle she’s alive. And asks her to teach her how to tackle the obstacles in her way.  She says that Lyza should tell her the miracle part herself, but agrees to send Riko down to her. 

(I had to watch it again to get the wording, and i’m crying. xD) Also Hi, Lyza is so freaking pretty 

(I am leaving something out that isn’t very story relevant I dont think, its about a small child. I’ll talk about it in another post, but I’m literally only at episode 9 out of 13 and i still have so much to say. The post will be Titled “Kiyui’s Birthday”) Since the entire 3rd layer is a 4000m verticle drop down a circular shaft, Riko and Reg set out to try to reach the fourth layer of the abyss. The decent is full of a bunch of tunnels they need to go through. Riko and Reg end up being attacked by a Madokajack, and Reg ends up having to use his incinerator, shortly after the same crimson redchin that reg hurt before finds them and seeks revenge, I dont remember how much they manage escaping and then Reg passes out, leaving Riko alone and hungry trying to find food for herself. Dragging Reg along with her,  she ends up in the stomach of an Amakagame that baited her with the smell of Baracocha fruit. This smell is used to mainly bait the small Neritantan creatures, but Riko was hungry and well, you know how that goes. She ends up cutting herself out of the creature’s stomach, which explodes with the smell of fruit. Hundreds of Neritantan start to surround her and ultimately chase her because they think she’s the fruit. 

They chase her into a ditch, and eventually a tunnel that she needs to get out of, but unfortunately... the only way out is an upwards incline.. I’ll lay it out for you here. She’s on the 3rd layer. She goes for it, like the strong willed 12 year old she is. Not 5 steps upwards and she already feels the weight of the curse. She starts to hallucinate severely and pictures herself with her mother, saying the curse doesnt affect them and they can go home now. But, Reg is gone. When Riko realizes Reg is not in her hallucination is where she REALIZES it is a hallucination, saying that “Without reg this was pointless, without Reg, I’ll die!” She then perserveres to the top of the incline, Reg in tow, and falls, when all of a sudden, the crimson red chin that Reg hurt before found them, and Reg uses Lyzas pickaxe thing that i forgot to mention to clobber it.

Okay. From here on out almost A LOT OF THE STORY will be triggering and I’m going to go into gruesome detail. Images, Story points. Everything. This is literally the part I’ve been waiting to talk about. And even I’m going to have to go through watching it again to make sure my facts are accurate.  THE LAST BIT of this will be ENTIRELY Triggering material. 

Reg and Riko have finally gone down far enough to reach the Fourth Layer, the Goblets of Giants. Riko and Reg start walking through the Goblts of warm steamy water, unable to see much. While descending and exploring the fourth layer, Reg sees a figure in the fog. Obviously startled, Riko comes in to see what’s the matter. 

Riko’s demeanor immediately turns scared as she says “Don’t go near it. We need to run for it. That thing is an Orb Piercer! Their quills can penetrate even steel and they’re laced with poison. More than 100 cave raiders have already been killed by these things.” Reg grabs onto riko and attempts to evade the creature but the creature essentially predicted his path and struck an attack. They were unharmed, but their backpack was broken and items flew out onto the ground. 

They still have (this random umbrella i literally dont remember them  receiving AT ALL) and they use it to try scare the Orb Pierver, since it recoils from anything bigger than itself. Reg then screams, opens the umbrella, and it turns out to be small as hell. The agutated creature IMMEDIATELY ATTACKS THEM with its quills, and when Reg turns around to tell Riko they need to try to run, he sees that RIko has been pierced. 

Reg pulls out the quill, obviously causing Riko a lot of pain, as he tries to find a way out. He ties her arm with rope to slow the poison from getting to the rest of her body. Reg realizes that the only way out is up.. But they’re on the fourth layer, and that would cause Riko intense pain and bleeding. He shows reluctance until Riko says “You gotta do it, we have to Reg.” When they get up to a higher Goblet, Reg sets Riko down only to see that for some reason she isn’t bleeding, but her hand is oozing. They then come to the conclusion that maybe the curse is spilling the poison out of her body instead of her blood..Nope. 

Bamboozled. 

Riko is having terrible hallucinations at this point but Reg has no idea what to do to save her from the poison thats going to course through her body any minute. He looks over and sees that her hand is completely swollen and bloated. He tried to take off her glove but she screams in agony. Reg apologizes profusely and asks her what to do, and for her help asking how he can save her becasue he has no idea. 

Riko: Cut it.. Reg: Huh?! Riko: Please.. Cut it.. cut it off... Reg: you don’t know what you’re saying. If I do that you’ll never be able t- Riko: Reg, please, just do it. If you can’t do it, I’ll die. Please Reg, I’m really scared. I’m so scared. 

Reg pulls out his knife as Riko instructs him further on what to do.  Struggling to breathe and stuttering as she talks.  Riko: Listen to me, Reg. You’re gonna have to break the bone first.. A black whistle who had this happen, he said cutting it was tough.  He grabs a rock and preps her arm. 

And gives her something to bite down on.  (I’m cringing as I write this becase I have to watch it again. I thought he smashed her arm with the rock but I’ve never watched the scene to see what he actually does.) He puts her arm over the rock and cracks her bone in two over each side of the rock. 

Literally causing her to writhe in agony.  (its blurry in Reg’s vision. 

He starts to cut her arm but suddnely bugs swarm them and he needs to fend them away. After he does that he realizes Riko isn’t breathing, at all. 

He starts screaming out and crying about not leaving him behind. For a good 2 and a half minutes he’s screaming and crying. And then all of a sudden you hear a voice say “You are very noisy...” (which absolutely cracked me up for SOME REASON, even though I was crying my eyes out) The person tells him that Riko’s heart is still beating, but weakly, and he needs to get her breathing.  

The person then instructs Riko on how to do mouth to mouth ressusitation, and he ends up getting Riko to breathe again. Mysterious Person-Thing then takes Reg and Riko to their hide out where they reveal they’re a Hollow named Nanachi. And on the way to the hideout they say “The curse isn’t present here” Reg looks confused and Nanachu says “Oh.. I guess you can’t see it..” This is important later. 

Nanachi then explains that many cave raiders have had this issue, but they don’t know how to treat it. She has a medicine to give Riko, buuuutttt since they cant give it orally “We have to use the other end”  (I honestly just like Reg’s face here xD)

Nanachi proceeds to remove the broken bone fragments, and stitch up the blood vessels and flesh, and sees that Riko has severely damaged nerves, while neatly stitching her up. 

Nanachu asks why Reg didn’t just cut it off at the elbow joint instead of breaking her arm, and he says he was just following Riko’s orders. Nanachi admits their admiration for Riko, as they explain that if the part past the elbow is left in tact then it totally changes what one can do when cave raiding. She was still determined to press on, even though she went through everything she just went through. They also explain that literally everything they’ve done since the 4th layer, Nanachi was watching them. Nanachi explains that they didn’t help the 2 because its dangerous for her to show themselves, but she started to pity Reg, and she couldn’t stand it anymore. They hear a little “Waaaaah?” In the distance and Reg asks if Nanachi lives with anyone. “Just my roommate, come meet her. This is my cute little Mitty”

Reg: What.... is that?? Nanachi: This child is also a hollow. R: What? N: Have you heard the perils of ascending from the 6th layer? R: I was told that it causes the loss of humanity. Or even death at times N: right. If someone survives, this is what becomes of them. Their personality and intelect vanish. The person becomes a holow husk of who they once were. No matter how hard they’ve tried, no one’s ever gone back to how they were. That trick you did with your extending arm.. just thinking about what would happen if you did that on the sixth layer is pretty thrilling.  R: But Nanachi, you don’t look anything like that! N: well yeah, there’s a reason for that, but I’m an exception among exceptions, so dont get your hopes up too much. That reminds me. If a cave raider ever becomes a hollow, their fellow cave raiders kil them and collect their belongings. Given the alternative, I suppose its better to tell people they died. Imagine what would happen if I went like this out in the open. I’m living proof that its possible to return from the 6th layer while still retaining some sense of humanity. Naturally, people would come capture me if they could. Revealing myself to a group of cave raiders is a big risk for me. even if its just out of pity, saving someone is a good thing, right?

After this conversation, Nanachi sends Reg to get a bunch of stuff intended for saving Riko. Except.. it wasn’t. One thing was. The rest was literally just to make dinner. The Ingredient to save Riko: Shroombears. They are bears that have a fungi called Watermushrooms. They’re parasidic. When it looks like their host is going to die, they share their nutrients to revive their host. Nanachi stitches some WaterMushrooms to her wound, to help with the bone healing, and help prevent her flesh from rotting, but they hurt like crazy to pull off. 

Mitty, for some reason, decided to crawl up on Riko and lay on her. And Reg dislikes this, and Mitty seems to be yelling at him for yelling at her. Nanachi explains that Mitty has never grown this fond of any visitors before, that Riko and Mitty are close in age and Mitty was a little girl before this happened to her. After Reg asks mitty not to eat the mushrooms Nanachi had this to say N: Shes not one to ever treat other so cruelly. It was thanks to her that we got the poison out so soon R: whaddaya mean? N: that medicine was made by injecting Mitty with an orb Piercers poison. She has the ability to neutralize poison all on her own. So naturally i decided to use her blood to produce the medicine. 

Riko remembers what Nanachi said about the curse not being present, and asks them to tell him how to evade the curse. Nanachi explains that they feel its useless to tell someone who can’t even see it. Reg immediately gets up in their face and begs them.So the nature of the curse is as follows: (Nanachi uses a clear cloth to explain) The curse is flowy and natural like an invisible blanket, piled on layer by layer. Even if you poke it, you won’t feel it. Even breathing is enough to alter its flow. When you touch it, it warps. 

They explain that as you go up, once you finally break through, the symptoms hit you all at once. If its something like your finger you’ll hardly be effected but if its your head or chest or a vital part.. well.. not good.  (this was hard for me to understand so I’m gonna try to explain as best I can with almost word for word from Nanachi’s explanation)

Reg asks why You can descend and nanachi explains like this It has a flow similar to inverted thorns which wont allow you to leave. And they draw a picture explaining their meaning. Its just like a trap for its prey. 

The curse was inactive around Nanachi’s hideout because the curse gets weakened the father you get from the verticle shaft. Its a forcefield. It will even alter its flow to someones consiousness. Orb Piercers aren’t intuitive, they can preduct the future because the forcefiels allows it. Which is why as you go further down the abyss the creatures become more difficult of a fight. Nanachi then has an idea to help Reg experience it, even though he can’t see it. nanachi places a microphone/speaker thing inside his helmet and instructs him to do EXACTLY what they say no matter what.  The scene changs to Riko and Mitty, and gets closer to Mitty’s eye. You then se a depiction of a creature, that slightly resembles Riko, crying We then see this

We then see this, and I’m confused as to how this doesn’t scare the child more. But from that eyeball, is even more, Louder crying than the skin girl was.  

These are the next few scenes, and they’re not explained, but they’re important for later.  A new scene shows reg walking through one of the Goblets with nanachi talking to him in his ear. From a distance, Reg hears a whistle beoing blown, and against Nanachi’s ordes, he ran to see who it was. It was a black whistle, fighting the same orb piercer. He advises Reg not to get any closer. 

Nanachi gives him specific instructions that no matter what happens do what he says, and dispose of the Orb Piercer. She had him look up, and commit to the act. Then  jump hard, to the right. 

With that jump, reg had the piercer by the nose. This is the organ it uses to sense the forcefield. After he confuses it, he ties it with his stretchy arms, and then blasts it with his incinerator. 

WHile Nanachi is amazed by his incinerator, Reg approached the black whistle, again, against the command of Nanachi. He asked the cave raider to bring a message up to someone at the Belchero Orphanage. “we’re continuing our adventure” The black whistle agrees. After Nana and Reg meet back up, Reg asks nanachi if they’d like to come with him and Riko. To which Nanachi had their own question for Reg. “I want you to... kill Mittty for me.” Then the scene jumps to a flashback of Mitty on nanachi’s back in the cold winter as Nanachi speaks to Mitty.  “I’m sorry for running away like thisbut I just cant let him do it anymore. Not as he pleases.  I promise I’ll figure something out for us.”

This is the end of episode 12. The finale of the show, episode 13, Is based around Mitty and Nanachi’s story. 

Nanachi, as a child came from a very unweathy place. She is sleeping on the floor saying to herself that they’d like to go to the bottom of the abyss. There is a commotion outside and a bunch of children are running to see what’s up. A boy Yells at nanachi, and pushes them saying “you stink get away from me” When they reach where the commotion is coming from, the white whistle bondrewd is standing in a door way with all the children clammoring “What’s he doing all the way out here” He asked for volunteers that are suitable for forging a path to the next era. Basically asking who wanted to go into the abyss with him. Nanachi, along with many other children took the offer. Out of the corner of her eye she saw a girl standing there, being bullied by a young boy. The same boy that was being mean to nanachi telling the girl “I dont hang out with idiots!”

After this, they show the children descending into the abyss, into the 5th layer, having barely anything to eat, but all supplied with blankets and bland food. Finally, Mitty approaches Nanachi and asks what they wants to be when they grow up, and explains that she, herself wants to become a white whistle. Nanachi said that she was fine with anything. All the other kids in her village would steal for food or neg for money, but that was never their thing. Saying “if you’re fine with whatever then we should be partners! My name is Mitty, a future white whistle! Who’re you?” I’m not sure how long it took them to descend but it seemed like quite a while. 

After this, they stayed up late at night reading and learning new things about the abyss, studying while all the children are sleeping. The two are inseperable from this point on. Bondrewd advises them to please not climb more than 10 meters, because they’ll be hit with the curse if they do. Nanachi and Mitty obviously in awe seeing the 5th layer.

All of the children seem to be put in a singular room to hang out with each other for their time there. (one of these kids looks like Gasai Yuno) Nanachi and Mitty spend their time drawing and researching more about the abyss, but as you get a look around the room there are significantly less children than before. One by one a child will leave and for some reason, never return. 

nanachi and Mitty hope they’re allowed to go out together. Then, while they’re asleep, Bondrewd calls Mitty out to go with him. Nanachi asks to go with her but Bondrewd says “you’ll get your turn Nanachi”

But nanachi being impatient and worried about her new-found best friend leaves the room anyway. She overhears A black whistle and Bondrewd talking.  Whistle: Sovereign of Dawn, I dont understand your reasoning. Bringing this many people down to the fifth layer? Even children from overseas?? Bondrewd: Why are you bringing this up now? it is for this purpose that I advocated to have black whistles enter the fifth layer W:its just.. it’d be different if they were cave raiders. But taking children who will never be able to return? its unhumane. B: ah. then there is no reason to worry. I am not making use of them as humans. I’m sure you understand. Care to have a look?

Nanachi then makes the dumb decision to start running to try to find Mitty. When she does, Mitty is trapped in a glass cylander  From here will be significantly shorter between pictures. 

Bondrewd comes up behind Nanachi.  B: Well, what have we here? What perfect timing you have Nanachi. Come, its your turn now. 

“That elevator is capable of going quickly down to the depths of the 6th layer, although its destination is no more than a dead end

Its the perfect depth for testing out many-a-things. Its my own miniature garden. 

The 6th layer’s curse is death, or loss of one’s humanity. And I’d like to do something about that

The chambers you’re situated in are capable of switching the curse all to one side. Attempts were made at pairing a person with a non-human, but those attempts were unsuccesful. However, Nanachi has decided to join us.  Mitty, You will be on the side to which the curse is driven. Please do your best to endure it. If you die halfway through, your partner will be hit with the curse. 

The pure terror in their eyes breaks my heart. 

And then. He pulls the lever. 

It was then clearly depicted what Bondrewd meant by his “garden”

“nanachi! Its alright. I promise! I’ll get through this. But if. If for some reason I end up not being Human anymore”

PLease let my soul return to you. Nanachi promise me!

Right after this, nanachi yells out for mitty, then the elevator starts heading back upwards. I don’t even want to explain. Just have pictures. 

At this point you hear Mitty plead for Nanachi to kill her. 

After this happens Nanachi basically becomes Bondrewd’s pet. Helping him with certain things, and research.

He explains that he now understands the curse Mitty received. He reveals that it did more than just cause her to lose her humanity. IT also made her incapable of dying.   The picture below was the 9th time she’s been resurrected. The only change is that her form becomes slightly more distorted. 

This, among obvious other things, is what caused Nanachi to run away. 

But no matter what Nanachi tried, Mitty just suffered. She promised that she would find a way to kill mitty without making her suffer through life anymore. 

The scene then goes back to when Mitty promted Reg with this question 

Reg asks to think about it a little bit. nanachi explains that Mitty answering when she’s called and other reactions are just reflexed. Real interaction has proved impossible for her. And that by looking at her eye, she has a strong feeling mitty’s soul is imprisoned in that body. 

Mitty still continues to obsess over Riko 

After they make something terrible to eat, Reg decides that he will go along with killing Mitty, and tells Nanachi the next day.  Reg just asks how Nanachi is sure that Mitty isn’t happy. “Well, when I die, which of course I will, Mitty will be alone forever. Can you imagine? Mitty never eats and she still doesnt die, but if she gets stabbed it hurts and she still sheds tears of pain. even if those are just mere reflexes she’d still be forced to endure her endless suffering forever. She’s not even capable of screaming out. Her soul would just remain imprisoned for all eternity. Reg this is my last chance to end her pain. You have the power to set her free. Please. I’m afraid an opportunity wont present itself like this.”

He says he will on one condition: That Nanachi does not commit suicide once Mitty is gone. She agrees, and promises. They set up a really pretty deathbed for her. 

But just as Reg starts to power up his incinerator, a hysterical nanachi can be heard screaming “STOP IT!”

“Mitty I’m so sorry, I was wrong I should have tried more. I’m so so sorry.

Listen to me. We’ll always be together,okay?

My sweet Mitty, you feel so warm. 

Thank you 

SHe heads back over to Reg and says “okay I’m ready now.”

And a very sad, and hesitant Reg then blasts her with the incinerator. 

And then there you see mitty, being basically ripped to shreds, but with no painful tears in her eyes, and still making the same, non painful sounds, she normally did. 

Nanachi turns around to look at whats happening, with tears in her eyes 

Honestly this is one of the most heartbreaking cries I’ve ever heard in an anime. Most of them are like, you try to stifle a laugh but this made me bawl my eyes out and I’m crying as I’m writing this because I’m listening to it for the screenshots. 

Nanachi yells at Reg to leave her alone, but he keeps hugging them and cries with them. 

After this, reg ended up passing out from using his incinerator and wakes up to RIko finally being awake, and helping teach Nanachi how to cook.  Some comic relief strikes up as riko praises nanachi telling them they’re doing such a good job while snuggling up to her fur. 

Riko, then randomly asks if someone else lived here. When prompted with why she’s asking. She goes on to explain that she was having a nightmare, where she was closed in a bolder like thing. And it wouldn’t budge. There was a cavity that was the same size as her that kept getting smaller and smaller. She was lost. (and then the depictions from before came back up again)  “I didn’t know who or what I was anymore. KI even forgot how to speak. I was so scared I just kept crying. 

and I heard more crying. But not from me. It was coming from someone else

At first it kind of scared me, but then i realized it was another girl. and she was scared too. It helped ease my mind if even a little. 

So we just stayed like that for quite a while. 

Whevener I got scared, there was that girl who was even more frightened that I was. I couldn’t speak.. but with my eyes I kept on telling her that it was going to be alright. Then I smelled something like smoke, and the crying finally stopped. 

And well, that girl left without ever looking back

But when I looked at her, she was just like all of the other cave raiders I’ve seen, her eye had an insatiable longing and just like that i remembered what I always wanted to be one day.” 

And then she had a feeling, that she would some day see that girl again, and then she woke up. 

Then Riko and Reg take a bath in some waters, while Nanachi teases them about Reg having a boner, and how they feel about each other. 

After this peaceful scene comes more painful when they have to take the mushrooms off of Riko.

I’m guessing a few days or weeks later, Riko is attempting to move her hand at all, but cant. And ends up getting her thumb to wiggle. 

Reg comes over completely upset, and apologizes to Riko for mangling her arm. RIko explains that Nanachi told her how uoset he was when he though she was dying and how seeing her like that reminded Nanachi of her with Mitty, which i why she helped them. Riko is thankful for the scar because its proof that Reg protected her. 

When Nanachi comes back out Riko asks her to go with them. And Nanachi says yes, Saying that Mitty would be mad if they abandoned the two.  and then Reg tackle hugs them. 

They all send up a package in a hot air balloon that goes through multiple layers and probably months of time to get there. It even gets caught on the second layer, and marulk and the cave raiders sew it together and send it back up. 

The entire credit scene is based on the air balloon message and Reg, Riko, and Nanachi getting ready to leave to continue their journey.  Unfortunately. The last few scenes show Bondrewd, and a bunch of lights. One, I believe to be Mitty’s not lit up. 

“congratulatiuons Nanachi, you finally managed to do it. I would like to express the extent of my gratitude. I hope very soon I’ll get to see you once again. 

AND THEN IT FADES TO BLACK. AND I AM DONE WITH THIS.  This story is so messed up. I love it. (because its wholesome and I wat some damn justice for Nanachi and Mitty) And I can’t wait to see Bondrewd get kis ass handed to him. I hope the movie comes out soon and i understand it.
