Round 1 poll 30: Alexander Pearce from Australia vs Stain Edwards from Don't Hug Me I'm Scared
Propaganda under the cut:
Alexander Pearce
he was an escaped convict in lutruwita/tasmania in the 1820s who ended up a cannibal, the last one left of his crew of escapees after they started eating each other because they had no idea how to live off the land without guns. he was caught after some months and admitted to his cannibalism but the authorities thought he was lying to cover up the other guys being bushrangers and out there still at large. a year later he escaped again with one other man, thomas cox. a week after this escape they found him again after he lit a fire in a rush of something like guilt. he said that cox had drowned. he said i have a piece of his bloody thigh in my pocket to prove he drowned :). they hanged him. i live in lutruwita/tasmania and am obsessed with him in a way i feel almost transcends autistic special interest. i've been to a few (hard to access!) places where events in the story took place. i swear i've read every book about him. my tumblr url is @/alexanderpearce.
Stain Edwards
In the height of my Don't Hug Me I'm Scared obsession in October 2022 (following the release of their 6-episode television show) one thing that still stands out to me is Stain Edwards, The Forever Boy (he named himself). Stain Edwards is a pink claymation glob thing that was created by two of the characters (Red Guy and Yellow Guy) after their third member (Bird Guy) "died" (he didn't really die). He was created out of a make-a-best-friend kit to replace Bird Guy and was immediately mocked, belittled, ignored, and abandoned by Red Guy and Yellow Guy before dying himself (it's been a while since I watched it but I think he was sucked into a horrible black vortex or something and then never talked about again). Anyways the instant I saw Stain Edwards I realized that whenever I hear the word "blorbo" with no context, he was the mental image my brain supplied, even before I knew him. Stain Edwards, The Forever Boy, you'll always be famous.

Iâm feeling like some things are out of character in Abbott. Iâd like to ask if you feel the same way. Barb in the upcoming episode, not having her entire teaching criteria? And her and the candle? Itâs obvious she had a reason for that, but an open flame, in a school? I donât know. I just feel like it wasnât supposed to be for her character. Although the best opening in the series- Gregâs hat! Isnât there a dress code? And Jacob and black history and last weeks episode with not knowing important people aka Barbâs references, assuming they were important. Lastly, do you think Tariq will try to fall back on Teddieâs relationship once again?
ok so my answer to this ask got a little away from me so i'll stick it under a read more
Ok so first off the thing about the candle is it WAS partially out of character for Barbara (rather the leaving the candle unattended was) because, like you say, she was dealing with her husband's health crisis. But candles on the table aren't totally out of character for her, we've seen them at least once:
it's a "home away from home" type deal, for her. We know how her and Melissa feel about that table. It's a whole thing. She was going through it and lit a candle to relax, like she would at home (because school is also her home), but because she was distracted by thoughts she left it lit, very literally putting one of her only safe spaces (the table, the room, the school) in jeopardy. She was very literally out of character for a narrative purpose.
As for the teaching requirements, I'm gonna wait for some context on that one. These blurbs don't really give you a particularly good overview a lot of the time. They often give things higher stakes than they truly are (the fact it's listed second means it's probably the b plot, so it might not be That Serious as often b-plots are the comic relief).
For the hat, I'd assumed he wouldn't actually be teaching in it. They're in the break room before the bell rings, and he knows it'd be distracting in a classroom. He's just a dork. He'd leave it on a hanger or something. But also, I mean, Melissa wears skin tight leather pants to work and wears blazers buttoned in such a was as to deliberately feature her Girls. I think the dress code at that school is pretty loose.
For Jacob, knowing black history and being a civil rights advocate doesn't mean he's infallible about knowing Black pop culture. I'm king faggot of dyke mountain but half of queer cultural touchstones pass me by. Like I hardly know anything about the pop girlies for example because it's not in my set of personal interests. Jacob's, like, a hipster. He's into thought-provoking podcasts and stuff. In my head he listens to sadboy music and watches foreign films. He's the token white boy with white boy interests, and he can be that but still be very passionate about civil rights issues. Though I will say, I don't believe that boy never saw Glee. I know in my heart he was in the trenches with us making it his whole personality for a while. Bust Your Windows was a cultural reset. Maybe he just didn't know original, but realised who they were talking about immediately after Googling it?
Like are all these instances a bit strange? Yeah. I'm not really excusing them so much as trying to make them work within the world of the show. This show uses a LOT of flex for a gag, sometimes dropping very weird lore for a chara that is never mentioned again, just because it would be funny or whiplash. "I don't think the moon landings are real", for example. It's just the general tone. I try not to think about it too deep for ANY show (or i'd get mad about writers mishandling my blorbos), though it is fun to do that sometimes. It also comes of these kind of scripted comedies having multiple writers and not necessarily having the same character concept in their head compared to the other writers, which is it's own beast. But yeah, I can see what you mean.
As for Tariq. Lol, yeah. There's no way they were gonna make it easy for Gregory and Janine after that kiss, especially now they've both split up from their exes. "If I can't have you, if it didn't mean anything to you, I'll go try the easy option again. Oh shit, oh no, this isn't what I wanted." Like I know Miss Brunson thinks this shit up while on her bed kicking her feet like Moesha. It's like fanfiction but on tv. It's gonna be m-e-s-s-y.

This is interesting because I can totally see this perspective but at the same time...I am someone who *much* prefers to watch a whole show in a relatively short space of time, because writing something not-canon-compliant (unless it's a deliberately done full-setting-change AU), while I know many people enjoy it, feels *wrong* and uncomfortable when I do it and even worse when I don't do it on purpose. I can't write fic for a series until I've *finished* it so that I know for certain that nothing will be revealed next episode that will prove my headcanon wrong, that my blorbo won't suddenly do something that either breaks my headcanon or worse makes them come across as a horrible person (if they're not a blorbo who's meant to be horrible, or not that KIND of horrible) or my ship start being arseholes to each other, or for canon to just go in a direction where I no longer like it (I'm not a fix-fic writer, if that happens I just lose all interest in the fandom usually)...
It's part of why I gave up on writing fic for comics for the most part... and it also means that before streaming, I tended to only get into fandoms that had been finished for years. Even RE, which is still going, I don't think I would ever have started writing Wesker fic if it wasn't for how he hadn't had a canon appearance for years since his death (and when I heard he'd be in RE4 remake I was terrified--what if they drastically changed his character? They didn't--they did change Krauser, and not 100% in ways I like, but he's not my blorbo.) And only being into old fandoms or long-dead characters was...not always fun. Now I can watch at least the entire first season of something in a couple of days and get into the fandom immediately, whereas if that show had been on TV only the first *episode* would have been out and I wouldn't have felt at all ready to form headcanons or fic ideas yet (or even to enjoy other people's, really, because they could be ruined for me in a week's time)...
I'm sure I'm not the only person with this experience, but I do wonder how *much* of a minority it is... the people who can write something while knowing later canon information might make it OOC or factually wrong are a mystery to me. I just wonder what the proportions are of one vs the other.
At the same time while it's easier to join a fandom at its peak, it DOES feel like that peak is shorter and sharper. I'm not quite sure why interest seems to die down so quickly, especially when the series is still available on streaming (so there's nothing preventing people from rewatching it and having new ideas. I mean I can get new ideas by rewatching two films from the early 90s. The ideas don't STOP.). I do know that shows that were the top streaming show on Netflix for weeks and hugely popular on Tumblr with a lot of excitement about various ships and characters towards the end of last year are now having those ships and characters losing in Tumblr polls to...in one case a Voltron ship? I thought that fandom was dead.
(Also curious what is meant wrt "binging isn't conducive analysis"/stagnation of writing. I mean, I've watched things from the 60s--made with the expectation that obviously people couldn't binge them and would be unlikely to even rewatch them--where there's so little continuity between episodes. Not just things like timelines and dates not matching up, which has still happened in...well, one particular Netflix show that I otherwise love... but things like "how did these two main characters first meet" getting two drastically different stories in season 1 vs season 2, or a character liking a specific food in one episode and hating it two episodes later, or whether a character had a certain skill or could speak a certain language varying from episode to episode to serve the plot or even to serve a throwaway joke. And it seems that people at the time didn't really notice this much or weren't bothered by it? The writers--even when otherwise very GOOD, funny, interesting writers who apparently DID care about the show [i.e. it wasn't a "they hated what they were writing, were bored of it and thought it was stupid and weren't even trying to make it good" situation]--didn't seem to take that much care over making sure these continuity details lined up. Again, even when nearly every other aspect of the show from the sets to the costumes to the acting clearly had effort put into it... continuity just doesn't seem to have been on the list. It's much easier to notice inconsistencies when you watch several episodes in a row and can rewatch, watch a scene from one episode and immediately go to a previous episode to compare, etc--ONE of these inconsistencies I mentioned if it appeared on a modern show would have fans desperate for an explanation and the writers probably needing to come up with a fix for it, let alone all of them on the same show. It seems like fans *notice things* far more when able to watch and rewatch the whole show whenever they want than when episodes are spaced out one per week with lots of time to forget details from one episode to the next, and that writing for that kind of audience needs far more attention to detail--and we *do* seem to be getting more series made with a lot of attention to detail, not JUST in terms of continuity but in terms of general writing quality, on streaming than on TV--of course the TV shows from decades ago that we REMEMBER were often good, but there were a lot of shows like soaps etc where the quality of acting, writing, filming etc was really not that high, and they went on for decades--whereas while there are bad shows on streaming I feel like they're often cancelled quickly. Unfortunately good shows are ALSO often cancelled quickly but that's another issue.)
"binge-worthy show" man fuck that
i want my shows one episode followed by a whole ass week of going a little insane over it with the people on my phone, writing fics theorizing and going over every single scene through amazing gifs and meta, before the next ep drops and the cicle begins anew
#this isn't to invalidate the point about social function at all of course#and also clearly some people DO lose interest more quickly this way#even if I don't quite know why because it's not like the show has *gone* anywhere#(I mean some shows do get removed from streaming but. When it hasn't.)#just found this interesting how it differed from my experiences in some ways

Ok I got another for you
Why R U
-đđđ
THE CRACK SHOW đđť thanks, Hearts Anon! đ
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
Saifah! I LOVE HIM 𼰠he's a sweet cuddly giraffe of a boyfriend and gives very nice hugs. He's also a whole mood when he goes around in a blanket.
scrunkly (my âbabyâ, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
Still Saifah 𤧠I wanna be Zon in this gif:
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I wonât shut up about it for a week)
I had forgotten about her but SHE! As soon as I saw her on screen I was bewitched, I find her so so so so so pretty that I immediately followed her on Instagram đ a great decision.
Also she was hilariously obsessed with Fighter's dick.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
Fighter. Especially first episodes Fighter because he acted like-- I can't even find the right words to describe it gsynrkcish everything he said and did was so absurd. He deserves a little bullying.
Also didn't he do something problematic⢠(Tumblrina Mode Activated) in the last episode? I didn't watch the whole series so I'm not sure.
Send me a fandom and I'll tell you...
#game#why r u#why r u the series#saifah#saifahzon#fighter#fightertutor#wow using this tags brings me way back.......

top 5 favorite anime?
ANON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THIS ASK IS EVERYTHING THANK YOU!!!! i am going to take this so seriously you will come to regret asking this. i can fit so much infodumping into this ask
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Ok. This anime literally invented women. I cannot emphasize enough how superior the female characters in FMA:B are to any other female character ever. The worldbuilding is so cool (science magic is so dope ngl) and I love the parallels with real-world history! The character development is on another level and the buildup to the climax in the last arc of the series is so ingenious. I'd say it's the Game of Thrones of anime, but it puts Game of Thrones to shame any day of the week. It's one of the first anime I ever watched and I've been obsessed with it for 8 years straight. Absolutely changed my life.
2. Mob Psycho 100
This show looks so fucking weird. It took me ages to watch it because every time I saw it trending on social media, I thought to myself, "what the fuck? Why does it look like that?" But it's good because of that. Literally everything about this anime is "why does it look like this?" Why doesn't Reigen have any powers when heâs the main characterâs sage, wise life coach? Why does Mob want to be normal when he has psychic powers? Why isn't it like other anime? That's exactly the point and it's GREAT. There are so many important themes and messages in this series and it teaches a lot of life lessons. It's also one of those shows where everyone is your blorbo and you will be fed for years by the fandom. God bless.
3. Major
Guys. Guys, guys, guys. This is, in my humble opinion, the greatest anime ever made. It would be #1 on my list if not for the fact that it's obscure as fuck and also a sports anime. Now I am not a sports anime fan by any stretch of the imagination (Haikyuu who? Kuroko no Basuke what?) but it is so much more than a simple sports anime, I just want to emphasize that right now. It's about baseball, yes, and all the characters do in fact play baseball, but there is so much drama and character development in this show it puts Your Lie in April to shame. You see, there's something very special about this show, and that is that it spans through the entire main character's childhood and adolescence from kindergarten age to adulthood. Progressing through each season was like watching my children grow up. The writing is superb, and I should add that the first five episodes are the best of the entire series and will guarantee that you binge all six seasons in record time. It sounds so corny, but I don't lie when I say that every single episode made me laugh and cry and scream and cheer. Additionally, I have never watched a single baseball game in my life--I picked this series up purely by chance because I saw the cover art of the sequel and decided to give it a try--but I have so many regrets about not playing softball in school now. Every episode is so exciting and thrilling and I'm on the edge of my seat the entire time with anticipation of the end result. Lastly, this is another one of those shows where every single character is my blorbo and I simply do not have a favorite because I love them all more than I can ever express. The sheer depth of emotional attachment I have to this series is truly unhealthy, 10/10 would recommend. Anyway, thank you for listening to my TED Talk and please watch Major. Your skin will be clear and your crops will flourish.
4. Death Note
I don't even know where to begin here. This show is something else entirely. It's earned a reputation as that show that everyone and their mom is watching, and true enough, it is that show. The suspense in every episode was almost enough to kill me. The psychological warfare is real. It's so refreshing that, for once, I can watch a show where the main character is undeniably, irredeemably corrupt and evil. Give him a book of death and he says "fuck it," goes off-the-walls unhinged, and immediately throws his morals away to begin a career in serial killing and ascend to godhood. Don't even TRY to excuse what he does because it ruins the experience. Even better is the fact that the guy who's trying to enact justice on him is Even Worse. There's also a good helping of gay subtext thrown in if you're into that.
5. Shadows House
Like Major, this anime is criminally underrated but it's relatively new, so I hope it will get more traction in the future. It has one of the most fresh and intriguing premises I've seen for a long time, with some really unique worldbuilding and lore that blew my mind. I'm not really a slice-of-life person, though I do enjoy mysteries, but this one drew me in from the very first episode and exceeded all my expectations for another average series. I love the character development and writing in this show, the character designs and animation are top-notch, and, again, there is a healthy dose of queer subtext for ALL of the characters (not even just the main characters). Another must-watch for anyone who wants to find that special media that they will become obsessed with on a toxic level and never recover from.

*slaps down fandom* Rwby
Original ask meme post here!
I am so vastly out of date with RWBY, so please forgive me.
blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most)
Tyrian Callows, aka the scorpion faunus character who showed up for maybe ten minutes at most with next to no backstory but a kickass fight sequence. I think that has changed since I stopped watching RWBY since I've seen glimpses of him in current stuff, but at the time the guy didn't have much canon content going.
scrunkly (my âbabyâ, character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped)
Oscar perhaps? I enjoyed his introduction and design back when I kept up with RWBY, and I dearly hoped that he hasn't had a crazy plot-twist change of character since then... >w>;;
scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave)
Doctor Oobleck! I recall he was a very quirky character, and there was just *something* about him I really enjoyed, between his personality and way of speaking.
Also Torchwick, though I think that comes more from the fact that I was heavily in the RP community for RWBY and met a lot of amazing Roman rpers at the time.
glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I wonât shut up about it for a week)
Tyrian Callows. I literally saw this man and immediately decided to make an RP blog for him--and I apparently wrote him really well. That blog is still technically up if anyone is curious, at @solumscorpius. I used to put a ton of work into RP blogs back when I had the energy to do that sorta stuff.
poor little meow meow (âproblematicâ/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave)
Ozpin, perhaps? I recall him being a particularly derisive character, though it's been long enough since I last touched the fandom (like three or four years) so most of the fine details are a bit muddled. I'm weak to powerful mentor figures so... not all that much a surprise to anyone.
horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason)
Qrow, dear Qrow, my sad little man. I only say that because he's got angst potential out the ass and I have dabbled in that a few times in previous writing projects.
eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell)
Salem? Never really had a character I outright loathed in RWBY at the time I kept up with it tbh

Latest update: with the help from a small credit line I got approved for, I fix my truck next week so I will be using that to move instead of a rental and have a vehicle. Much better situation. Still need to cover back taxes from when I was with my ex and his vehicles were registered under me and not being paid on before I can register it (donât have the money for that just yet, and no heâs not gonna help there đ). I have not covered Lyft rental the last three weeks due to lack of rides/bonuses and being ill with migraines last week to the point I couldnât safely drive, so most of my credit has gone to keep me afloat with rental/tolls/gas/food/other crucial bills.
The person I was paying to watch my third dog Arya while my ex wasnât available to have her let her deal with being infested with fleas from their dog, and she chewed herself raw because she gets flea dermatitis, on top of lying to me about treating her with what I provided and her improvement. So she is now with a new dog sitter, but I had to pay for capstar, replacing her bedding they ruined, and the flea bath. All expenses that could have been avoided when she was staying with two literal dog professionals. Thankfully sheâs improved already in the care of someone that actually gives a shit. Pics under the cut to see how awful she looks now.
My most immediate concern is under the cut due to unexpected pet illness or possible ingestion of who knows what??? Details under the cut cuz theyâre gross. I have a good pet insurance policy that ideally will cover 90% of this, but thatâs only if they decide it wasnât a âpreexisting conditionâ but pet insurance only refunds, I still have to come out of pocket up front.
SO:
If you would like me to doodle your blorbo or pet, I will happily do so for tips (these will be simple sketches, low koala tea as Iâm def not commission skill level quite yet).
Woke to No One puking up bile with specks of blood in it, then foam repeatedly with production of nothing else. No fucking idea what the cause is. Got my client to advance my pay from next week so that I can get her diagnosed. Hoping itâs enough to treat her. Only halfway to car rental, I missed out on the big streaks this morning for obvious reasons. Ideally I catch the two this afternoon and somewhat make up for it. So yeah. Feeling pressure.
The pic shows the atrocious condition I picked Arya up in that she was NOT in when I dropped her off, even post bath she clearly looks horrible, and was so relieved to not be frantically itching that she slept heavily the second I had her on the new bed. When I say I exercised restraint to not catch a chargeâŚ
$25/500 reached. Thank you to whoever helped and to those who have boosted. I greatly appreciate it as do the puppos.

Okay I can't just drop this and not share the story that would be rude
So
When I was 8 my mom knew I was into pokemon (like. REALLY into pokemon) and one of her coworkers at the time gave her a cd and said here if your kid likes pokemon she'll probably like this!
well what was on the cd was an incredibly crusty low-res AMV of Bakura set to Evanesence's Bring Me To Life and I was immediately enamored. Became obsessed with both Bakura and Evanesence and started watching yugioh every week desperately waiting to see my blorbo.
Of course as we all know he's not exactly a prominently featured character so I had to wait a long time. For a while I was starting to get convinced he wasn't even real but I was enjoying the rest of the show so I kept watching. Eventually I caught the last 2 Destiny Board episodes and something in me AWAKENED. Bakura became the first fictional character I ever got obsessed with.
*deacon from wwdits voice* and I still am today
One of these days I'm going to have to share the story of how I discovered Bakura (and yugioh by extension skfnskdn) but it's just... SO incredibly 2003 it's embarrassing tbh
