I do headcanon Akira's parents to be mediocre at best, but what if they aren't? What if they belived Akira and defended him but due to Shido's influence it was impossible for them to prove him inocent? What if they spent weeks trying to find a nice place for him to stay in Tokyo instead of the ones the court had recommended? What if after a friend told them about the owner of this café he frequented and how he had fought for the custody of a kid last year they spent two hours at the phone with Sojiro trying to convince him and making sure Leblanc was a good place for Akira to stay? What if it was Akira who put distance between him and his parents becuase he was ashamed of what he'd put them through and that's why he never calls them? What if they called Sojiro every day to check on Akira?

What if a few years later, when Akira introduces Akechi to them, they treat him like their own son right from the start and Akechi is so overwhelmed that he needs a moment because no adult in his life has ever cared about him that much?
