13. Show your favourite drawing from last year

this was fanart for a multi-animator project that's still in the works here, I didn't come up w the designs or anything but I'm proud of it honestly and I didn't really draw much during 2022 cause I was just finishing up my senior year of highschool. I should color the lineart more often ITS FUN TO DO!

I'm gonna put 2 because I wanna acknowledge more of my stufff (I gotta work on liking my stuff moreeee) I was gonna add like a bunch of designs I really liked because I am insane and did mostly wc designs and style experimentation as that was popular at the time in the community. But I actually found a bg i did for an animation that's really good wtf 2022 Max

While going through my files, I realized I struggle to like my art a lot because I'm used to having to ask myself "is it good art?". I grew up w the shit of deviantart cringe and people criticizing kids all the time for stuff so I got stuck on the mindset of I could only really like my work if it was "good" art... Anyway you learn something new everyday WOW (not everything i draw is good to me but i should still cherish it and stuff, it's just hard, i'm still horribly bitter about some stuff i drew as i was learning earlier this year. its not bad but i am overly critical. I'm working on it, I'm still getting comfortable drawing non-cat things in the first place, looking at my old stuff is helps me :])

Scary Sunset.

I'm concepting things way outta order in this story, but I'm sure you can piece things together. Context is for a storybeat where, after defeating and capturing Adagio (thus having all three sirens in her possession), Sunset enacts her revenge plot to release the sirens on Canterlot as Thea discovers she's been manipulated. In a confrontation, the two scuffle and fight over the siren orbs while Sunset struggles with her conflicting wants and emotions.

#mlp #sunset shimmer #twilight sparkle #twiset #the orbs are the glass balls sunset carries on her back btw its in her cast line up art #deep down sunset hates thea. she was named “twilight” by celestia. the time of day succeeding sunset. she was always her replacement #but at this point in the story sunset's also fallen for thea. so it's also a conflict of wills in sunset. love or hatred.#hence the “don't make me do this” language. she's rationalizing her hatred and violence as thea forcing her hand and getting in her way #when in reality she doesn't need to do any of this. it's her last stand and outburst to cling to a life of revenge that she's grown too #fond of. because she knows thea has the power to change that and disrupt her identity as a pathetic victim who fell from glory #and that's scary. thea's a very scary thing to sunset because suddenly sunset wants something and to be someone new.#she suddenly wants to change. to be better for someone else. and she never thought or believed that could be an option for her #anyways toxic yuri yayyy #my art #the grand galloping 20s #character design #i hope i got across the pained conflicted emotions in sunset's face tho i belabored over them these past 3 days #i hope a look of anger and dissonance and guilt and “oh god i don't really wanna hurt you please just obey me” while trying to intimidate #is readable. if so it's all in the eyebrows babey

#a doodley #guys im having realizations i dont really know what to do with #ive said this tons before but my main issue with art rn is like #i Know anatomy. and what it's Meant to look like. my issue is straying away from Correct and going with Good like how some of my stuff was #before i really started learning. loose and not restricted #but my obstacle is that nobody draws the way i want to draw. and im bad at coming up with my own stuff...i need to copy and osmose off #someone else. well. it turns out there is someone who draws the way i draw. and its cheye of the past.#dont get me wrong if i look thru the rest of the art in the (year) folder these came from; 80% of it sucks #i wish i cld have what past cheye had but with current cheye tweaks and refinement #but idk how to do that. something weird has happened to my mind i really cant envision and make art the same way anymore #idk how he did it back then....i wish i Knew bc current me cant make anything out of sketching or thumbnails or just going at it #arghhh #i try and force myself to draw stuff like this now (interactions) and it looks. so stiff. and bad proportion wise but idk how to fix it #which isnt to say the proportions (for example) in THESE drawings are perfect but they dont scream Wrong or Bad or Incorrect to me ykwim...#idk! idk what to do with this. ive never known how to go back and study my own stuff
