You know, the Aldoron arc really was that arc for the shippers.
First, we get confirmation that Levy and Gajeel are going to have a kid. When seeing the Phantom Lord arc, could you ever imagine that eh would end up falling in love with the girl he crucified? I can’t wait to meet their kid.
Jellal finally let go of his past and now his “gears” (thoughts) are overlapped with Erzas. He even told her that because of her he could love people freely now. Again, such a huge step from the Tower of Heaven.
Gray and Juvia left my heart bleeding in a ditch somewhere. Their interactions are SO CUTE. It starts with her missing him so she went and sought him out. Then he says she’s his power to live. Power. To. Live. If my future partner doesn’t tell me something like that it isn’t worth it. Think about it. These two lived together for 6 months, are a useful tag team, can pull off Unison Raids (historically difficult to do, and has only been pulled off 3-4 times), and in an act of desperation, tried to kill themselves to save the other. Gray said he wanted to protect her, and he finally did. I almost can’t wait for the quest to end so we can see more of these two together. Also, just look at this panel.
Tumblr media
LOOK AT IT.
For Nalu, we are fed crumbs. Lucy mentions that Natsu isn’t really interested in romance, and we catch a few panels of her being concerned for him. And that one iconic chapter cover of her crying in his lap. This one:
Tumblr media
But otherwise, crumbs.
Anyways I absolutely love this arc, it’s just so fun and Wraiths story is so sad.

Do you hate Gruvia too?
For me personally, it's a like hate thing. According to the story, it was "love at first sight," but in my opinion, it was "one-sided obsession"
Juvia literally took one look at the guy and then said "welp I'm in love immediately with this random half-naked dude I just met. I'm gonna give up this fight!" Like wtf? (Although I don't blame her tho)
I don't believe in "love at first sight," and it just looked like Juvia was toxic on soooooo many levels. This girl is paranoid to the T, doesn't trust the woman friends he has in his guild around him, is completely obsessed with him, and I feel like she doesn't know a thing about him. BTW was proven in one of the episodes where she tried to give Gray a scarf she made on the anniversary of Ur's death. I know she didn't know, and she was trying to be nice, but she should've just left him alone.
In my opinion, they're cute together, but I did not like how obsessive and delusional she was with Gray, how fast she was moving with him, and how she saw every single woman he interacted with especially Lucy as a threat.
I would've loved to see her truly take her time and get to know Gray and his relationships with the people in the guild and tone down the psycho. She can still like him and make it clear where her feelings are, but I'd rather see her other relationships with the guild members like Erza, Lucy, Wendy, Gajeel, and a few other members of fairy tail grow and have their moments of platonic friendship.
I like the ship, but I hate the dynamic. Gray and Juvia looked completely one-sided, and throughout the whole series, I was cringing so hard and was very disappointed in Juvia and her actions.
I liked the moments and the relationships she built with other people other than Gray way better than the ship itself, and I was disappointed when the creators of the show didn't show more of that and I didn't really see all that much chemistry from them but this is just my opinion and I want everyone to respect that.
Sorry, i went on a whole rant, but it is how I feel

I just reblogged all your Fairy Tail posts like a mad man because it's all so good and I could not contain myself!!! I love your art sm especially your Fairy Tail rewrite ideas!!!
Speaking of which did you have any other ideas for the other main characters like Team Natsu? I'm really curious to see how your Gray interacts with Juvia in this and how you made their relationship more concrete.
Also did you have any other platonic or romantic pairings in mind that we don't really see in the anime?
Akfbskf I saw!! I'm so glad you like my ideas, I always get a little nervous when I post about changing character dynamics because I've been spoken to,,,,,, not super nicely about my perception of character dynamics and how I change them sometimes
I've got a lot of thoughts all the time, but let me answer your questions A bit!
Did you have any other ideas for main characters like Natsu?
Tons!! I dont even really know where to begin talking about our main cast, there's so many individual ideas for each of them
But I can say that they all learn/teach each other's magic to each other, with varying levels of success
Natsu having the most success learning Lucy's celestial magic, Lucy having the most learning Erza's requip magic, Gray to everyone's surprise coming the closest to learning Natsu's Dragon Slayer magic, and Erza having the most succes with Gray's maker magic
Tumblr media
I'm really curious to see how your Gray interacts with Juvia
It's very similar to his dynamic with Lucy for the most part! But sometimes, it's also like
Tumblr media
And Juvia will repeat herself with no hesitation, and Gray gets really embarrassed and either walks away or starts an argument depending on how many other people are around or what people they are
Did you have any other platonic or romantic pairings in mind we didn't really see in the anime?
Well, as I'm sure you saw because you went through my blog, I would absolutely kill to see a Natsu/Juvia team up, so yeah, I was thinking about that duo for this
It was mostly pretty silly-- not really knowing how to talk to each other, but managing to enjoy each other's company because Juvia can kind of bring Natsu down a bit when hes getting too worked up, and Natsu can get Juvia passionate about something she would have otherwise been indifferent to
I think I also mentioned back on the post asking about Gajeel and Juvia in particular, but I talked about Gajeel forming a bond with the Strauss siblings-- he's like the 4th sibling they never wanted (affectionate)
And even though they were kind of shown in the anime, I really wanted to explore the dynamic between Erza and Wendy more, as well as the relationship between the 3 exceeds
I think Wendy and Happy are particularly fascinating as characters, because their magic is clearly intended for support, and they're surrounded by people who can do more, even in the case of Happy with the other exceeds who can perform transformation magic and be able to put up a fight, which is why I wanted to explore the dynamics I'd mentioned haha
I'd also really like to take a bigger dive into Lucy's relationships with her spirits! Especially since one of the things that bothered me was the way the celestial spirit system worked! I had some ideas for Aries and Virgo in particular for little mini arcs, similar to the ones we got for Loke and Aquarius, and how Lucy buids her trust and relationship with the spirits who's keys she holds-- I don't wanna share goo much about that though, I actually have some really cool art pieces in progress about them and I wanted to wait to talk about exploring those dynamics more until I got there
I'd love to show you the thumbnail for one of them though
Tumblr media
You'll have to guess which one it is /j

Natsu Harem: Fairy GET! 4/14
Let's see... Pink, brown, white.... We'll go with blue. Yes, blue. (人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media
Juvia will be the next here. (人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media
When did they meet?
During the Tower of Heaven incident. (人◕ω◕) Admittedly, Juvia's "love at first sight" thing with Gray is... Well, it happened. Even with this series having fanfiction in its veins, I won't pretend the crush never existed. I already acknowledged Chelia's crush on Lyon, and Cana's dabbled around with men... Might as well touch on Juvia's obsession with Gray. I am no coward. I will overcome this hiccup with relative ease~... Not that Gray doesn't deserve a girl. ... I'm just not crazy about Gruvia. Navia is much more interesting. Fite me. (人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media
So, Juvia goes and helps Team Natsu infiltrate the Tower of Heaven to save Erza. (人◕ω◕) She's jealous of Lucy's bond with Gray, so she makes her air bubble smaller out of spite. They all manage to make it into the Tower, so no harm no foul~...
To be perfectly honest, however, Juvia and Natsu interactions are fleeting in canon. So I'll skip the long-winded review of canon events and just give a bare-bones look back at it. Even if Juvia's whole shtick is supporting and orbiting around Gray, the fact remains that she does help Team Natsu and Fairy Tail as a whole... Even joins the guild. (人◕ω◕)
Tumblr media
When did they grow closer?
This is a million yen question, folks. While there's a ton of flexibility and options, strictly going by canon Juvia would never give Natsu the time of day. Good thing I was never a canon purist. (人◕ω◕)
Juvia's thing is Gray, yeah? So it follows if she wants to be as close to him as possible, she'd hafta join Team Natsu. Cuz for better or for worse, Gray is nice and cozy on a team with his hotheaded rival, Lucy, Erza, Happy, and eventually Wendy and Carla. (人◕ω◕) That said... If Juvia does join up, I can see Erza wanting to attempt some team bonding exercises to get to know one another better~... This means not just bonding as a group, but in two- to three-person units. This means sooner or later, Juvia will have to team up with Natsu and be properly introduced.
Tumblr media
... Do not be fooled, however. (❋•‿•❋) Juvia is a stubborn, faithful woman. Bonding with Natsu is her least favorite ways to pass the time... He's loud, has no manners, always picks fights... Oh yeah. And he always beats up her Darling. (❋•‿•❋) You can be sure that in their early interactions, Juvia-chan attempted to order Natsu to stop picking fights with Gray, if only so that her Beloved could better spend his time.
Tumblr media
It doesn't work out, of course. Natsu's just as much of a free spirit as Juvia is. And moreover... Natsu and Gray both confirm for Juvia that they get plenty out of butting heads with each other; in their own quirky way, they're making sure the other isn't slacking off, and constantly measuring their strength against one another. (❋•‿•❋) Juvia might not like it... But it is what it is.
So once the initial cold shoulder phase is over and Juvia does some jobs with Natsu, she begins to see his caring spirit. Whether it's her, Happy, a client, or someone else being threatened... Natsu gives it his all to defend them. While Juvia finds it admirable, she does still think Gray is leagues above Natsu. And really, she's besties with Gajeel. She knows Dragon Slayers are strong and have big hearts. She knows that. ... They just don't appeal to her on a romantic level. (❋•‿•❋)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Here's something a little interesting, though. (❋•‿•❋) Lisanna befriended the Edolas Juvia. So when the S-Class trials come up, she volunteers to be Juvia's partner, even though Juvia is severely down in the dumps about being a rival to her Beloved. She doesn't mind Lisanna's companionship, Juvia's just got Gray on her mind. Always. (❋•‿•❋)
But the Lisanna connection really is a possible way in for Natsu. An additional way for him and Juvia to be connected. After the trials and the seven year gap, Juvia does grow closer to Lisanna, and consequentially she and Natsu get more time together little by little. (❋•‿•❋) The Navia ship is often a slowburn, folks. Natsu isn't romantically attracted to Juvia, not for a long while, and you know Juvia is a faithful woman. And you know Lisanna won't be telling Juvia to jump ship, no, no. Lisanna-chan can be a bit... greedy like her neesan. (❋•‿•❋)
Still, the Grand Magic Games goes to show Juvia that Natsu is remaining as tough as ever. Which is good for her Darling, cuz Gray needs a strong rival. (❋•‿•❋) Juvia also enjoys participating in the games...even if for the first while she was technically a rival to her Beloved. Again. But then final day of the games came up, and Juvia replaced Natsu's spot so he could go save Lucy. Then she was a teammate with Gray-sama. (❋•‿•❋)
After the games and the stuff with the dragons... Juvia-chan thinks Natsu has earned a reward for helping give her time with Gray-sama, not to mention the destruction of the Eclipse Gate. (๑╹ω╹๑ ) They're just friends, but Juvia has come to accept time with Natsu is not time wasted anymore. She winds up knitting Natsu a new scarf... Not that Natsu is willing to accept the thing, cuz the scarf he got from Igneel is more precious to him.
... This depresses Juvia a lot, considering she put a lot of thought into her gift to Natsu... On top of being rejected by Gray constantly, it's like being turned down in stereo with Natsu joining in. Natsu picks up on this, and resolves to cheer Juvia up despite not understanding what's wrong. After Mira walks him through the problem - to which he only half-listened, half-understood - Natsu decides to get Wendy's help in enchanting the scarf to have some of his Magic. He'll hafta "recharge" the scarf every now and then, every few months, but he gives the scarf back to Juvia and she's amazed at how toasty it feels. (๑╹ω╹๑ ) At first she thought Natsu was just throwing it back at her, but once he explained what he and Wendy did... Juvia's touched at Natsu's thoughtfulness. ... Even if she still hasn't given him a proper gift yet. Juvia feels bad about that. But. Natsu-kun isn't a complete blockhead of a friend, and Juvia will take this as a win. (๑╹ω╹๑ )
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do we even need to go over Juvia and Meredy? (๑╹ω╹๑ )
Tumblr media
... (๑╹ω╹๑ );;;
Tumblr media
When does friendship turn to something more?
After Tartaros, Juvia can't think of anything except how she hurt Gray by helping "kill" his dad... She doesn't even know or think about Igneel dying... So whereas Natsu's off cavorting with the Strauss Siblings during the year hiatus, Juvia's with Gray-sama. (๑╹ω╹๑ )
... It's not exactly everything Juvia wanted, despite how she puffs it up as all that. (๑╹ω╹๑ );;; Natsu's Magic ran out months ago in the scarf, and Juvia has felt... empty without it. Plus, even with Gray treating her as a good friend, he still edges away from romance. Naturally this bums Juvia out. And when Natsu sees the scarf and just charges it up for Juvia without being prompted... That sticks in Juvia's mind. (๑╹ω╹๑ )
She's there when Fairy Tail's all reunited. And Juvia goes with Team Natsu to save Makarov from the Alvarez Empire. The subsequent war brought to Ishgar is... overwhelming. A lot happened. There's several points Juvia isn't sure how they'll make it through the day.... But they do.
And in spite of everything that's happened... Gray still turns her down for a relationship. Of course he was overly apologetic about nearly killing her, and Juvia is a precious friend to him... But Gray can't force something that isn't there. He carried his dad's wish to hunt down END and kill him for the past year, and now he's just not sure what he's gonna do from now on. Sticking with Fairy Tail and Team Natsu is obvious, protecting his friends is "no duh", but he just... His head's not in the right place for a relationship. He needs time to unwind and figure out his own personal goals in life.
Tumblr media
Not that this more decisive rejection doesn't rattle Juvia to her core... She keeps insisting she'll wait for Gray, but her insistence only makes Gray all the more resolved to keep his answer as "no"; cuz in his mind, Juvia deserves better after the mistakes he's made. And she shouldn't put her whole love life on hold, let alone dedicate herself to someone that just may never reciprocate...
That's when Gray decides to get Natsu, Lisanna, and Meredy's help on this one. They're all friends with Juvia, and if anyone could get Juvia off this tunnel vision thing, it'd be them... It's not easy. Juvia is tenacious, committed, and really, does anyone like admitting it's over when it's over...?
Tumblr media
After some prodding from Lisanna and Meldy, Natsu takes Juvia out for dinner. He even gets dressed up with the girls' help, and go to a nice restaurant. Sure, it's not this perfect outing that Juvia envisioned, and she's even more devastated when she perceives Lisanna and Meldy's intentions to get her to try a date with Natsu...
But at the end of the day, Juvia only realized the outing was a "date" after it was nearing its end. Despite the high class restaurant, going to a nighttime festival, doing whatever Juvia was up for... Juvia just took it all as Natsu trying to cheer her up. When she realized it was a date, Juvia was certainly revolted at first, that she enjoyed herself with someone other than Gray-sama...
Tumblr media
... But after all this time with Natsu, Juvia knows he never meant any ill will. Natsu knows her feelings for Gray are strong, and he's not trying to erase them out of spite. He's helping out because even the Stripper is concerned for Juvia, that Lisanna and Meldy are worried for her, and they all just want Juvia to be happy.
Tumblr media
It's still a bitter pill to swallow, to just give up on Gray after all this time... But Natsu-kun has always been there, as have Lisanna and Meldy. They've been great friends... And Juvia supposes she can learn to love Natsu more "properly". (๑╹ω╹๑ ) For Natsu's part... He never has to complain about Juvia being "fired up" for jobs or much of anything. Their mutual passion for life bounces off each other quite nicely~... Yes. This couple has all the good vibes. \(๑╹ω╹๑ )/

hi!! i really like your PL au, i love gajeel/lucy brotps and im a luvia girlie (romantic or not), so wanted to maybe propose some solutions to some of the things you said you were struggling with.
if you want gray still on galuna island you could have him hear some kind of rumor about deliora being there and go investigate, or if you want to not have PL involved at all and keep it relatively the same (natsu runs off on the quest, gray and erza end up following along) they could sell the key or advertise giving it away somehow for lucy to end up getting it (or, if you don’t need her to have it prior to her joining the guild, they could just keep it for if they find a trusted celestial wizard) could have that lead into my idea for the loke arc.
even if lucy gives up on being a fairy tail wizard i doubt she’d give up on being a writer, and so maybe she could travel to magnolia occasionally for writing purposes and meet loke there? then they just keep accidentally meeting at places and he starts trusting her that way, even if it’s not enough to reveal the whole circumstances? then it sorta depends on how fast they join fairy tail afterwards, but lucy could plausibly join faster than juvia and gajeel which would allow her to be there for the loke arc?
i don’t know if these make sense in your head but i’d love to hear more about this au <3
Hi! First off, I'm really glad you like the AU! I too am a fan of the dynamics between Lucy and Gajeel, and Lucy and Juvia. They can be so good if given the chance!!
Gray ending up on Galuna island specifically cause he heard rumors about the Deliora thing is a great idea! I wanted team Natsu (-Lucy) to still be on the island and finish the official quest because i think it's just necessary for Grays character development. So maybe something like: Gray hears the rumors, sneaks out, Natsu notices and goes after him with Happy just cause, and then Ezra follows the three of them?
For the key I was thinking that, since in canon Ezra refuses to accept the money reward since they didn't actually destroy the moon, they might leave the key this time too? After all there's no Lucy there. And maybe the old village chief guy makes another quest to "vanquish the moon" or something cause he's stubborn and this is the one Gajeel, Lucy and Juvia take, or maybe it's the same one they just show up late... ( i want this AU to stay a bit silly, i think it's funnier that way).
I'll try to post the Galuna Island doodles i made a while ago later
In regards to Loke, that is actually a really cool idea! It would also make a lot of sense, Loke is canonically a flirt and he did flirt with Lucy before he freaked out about her being a celestial wizard so if lets say, Lucy is out looking for inspiration and Loke is on a job they could feasibly meet and interact!
Thank you very much for those ideas they are very appreciated, i do hope i can give the characters and their dynamics justice!
Talking about them, I was thinking what name to give the Gajeel/ Lucy/ Juvia team. I can see Gajeel potentionally wanting to name it Team Gajeel (as a way to parallel Team Natsu) but also I'm not sure if that would be his go-to and i definetly think the girls would shut that down haha

juvia and lisanna headcanons pt. 1
this is for the anon whose ask I keep messing up... I feel like I just scared away a stray cat😭😭
♡ when edolas juvia joins edolas fairy tail, lisanna is relieved. it's difficult for her to keep up appearances and maintain relationships with edolas fairy tail when... she has no idea what edolas lisanna was like. so a new face means that she can drop the act and be herself, at least for a little bit. edolas juvia is confident and sure of herself. she's a bit of a lone wolf in edolas fairy tail, and lisanna never really gets close to her as a result. lisanna considers it a loss, until she's back in earthland and realizes that juvia is one of the only people she can talk to normally.
♡ lisanna is more distant from her old friends, for different reasons. natsu and erza are so widlly different from their edolas counterparts, and they're also not kids anymore. lisanna doesn't know how close they are or what the future holds for their relationship. what she does know is she misses lucy ashley. she was the closest thing lisanna had to a friend (with how much she pretended in front of everyone), and lisanna knows that lucy heartfilia is not her lucy ashley.
♡ lisanna feels a little bit bad about avoiding her family, but it's so difficult. just when lisanna was getting used to her role in edolas, just when she thought she could live out the rest of her life there and be happy, everything flipped topsy turvy. lisanna's relearning her life and who she is all over again, and to say she's not happy is an understatement.
♡ sometimes lisanna feels like she's seeing double. mirajane asks her what she wants at the bar, and suddenly she's back in edolas fairy tail's vine-covered guild hall. then natsu throws a table at gray, and lisanna remembers that she's back in earthland. she tries not to let it show, but her siblings can tell. they talk about her troubles, and though lisanna doesn't see any way to fix it, she appreciates that she can speak more freely now.
♡ lisanna wonders if she's ever going to have a normal relationship with someone when a lacrima goes off in her head. edolas juvia never treated lisanna with more than common courtesy, so it's not like they had much of a relationship. and... earthland juvia wasn't there when lisanna... disappeared. she doesn't look at lisanna with the same sadness that natsu or erza do. she doesn't try to coddle her the way her siblings do. in fact, juvia hasn't paid her much attention at all, and lisanna will take that over her friends' pitiful expressions.
♡ lisanna forms a habit of sitting at the bar, observing her guildmates. it's a good people study, and she gets to catch up on the past few years with her sister. mira is one of the few people that handles lisanna's return with grace, and lisanna is forever grateful for it. in her people watching, lisanna notices that juvia is a bit of a loner. when she's at the guild hall (not very often), she really only talks to gajeel. and she avoids gray like the plague. lisanna, not for the first time, wonders what she missed.
♡ their first interaction is at the job board. their hands knock together, and lisanna knows an opportunity when she sees one. "do you wanna... do the job together?" "you... want to team up... with juvia?" juvia's bewilderment makes lisanna wonder if she's offended the other somehow. juvia doesn't protest much though, and lisanna feels giddy as they walk out of the guild hall. she ignores the looks of concern her old friends send her every time she leaves for a job. she's not a child, and she can handle herself.
♡ juvia, as it turns out, is a riot. lisanna's giggling the entire time. juvia is a bit awkward and blunt, but she's earnest. her spooky comments and bone-chilling jokes paired with a deadpan expression send lisanna into a laughing fit. juvia is genuinely curious about her, too, and lisanna finds that she hasn't had this much fun talking to someone in years.
♡ the other thing that hooks her is that juvia doesn't bat an eye when she brings out her darker side. lisanna claws someone's eye out in her leopard take-over? juvia shoots her a thumbs up as she cuts a dark mage to pieces with her water slicer. they're a deadly and efficient team, and dark guilds don't stand a chance.
♡ lisanna returns to the guild feeling lighter than ever, and it doesn't go away. she spends more and more time with juvia, going out shopping, kicking ass on missions, gossiping about drama in the guild world. lisanna's smile is brighter, her heart fuller, and she thinks that maybe, just maybe, her life in earthland won't be so bad.

your fairy tail posts got me into it, so I gotta ask: favorite ships?
um. my condolences? well i'm joking—despite my critiques of it i still love the thing dearly and am extremely fond of a lot of the characters. I hope you’ve had fun with it too! as for ships... my tastes have changed over the years while also not? i've become really into like. friendships lately, yknow, or things where the dynamic between the two is more important than it being strictly platonic of romantic. so I would say i'm open to a lot of them. as for the ones i tend to go for, they tend to be like. super conventional. whatever i was into years ago, but now i just have a lot of extra headcanons about it. the thing for me is that a lot of the "big" fairy tail ships have like. really good setup, and shoddy execution. also this got long bc I rambled. sorry
i like natsu & lucy because i want them to be best friends and sometimes being best friends is a romance as well... and that starts out really strong in canon until it gets dragged on into just. bad fanservice. like i dont need natsu to see lucy when she's naked. i want them to have an emotional conversation or just work together as a team.
i like gray & juvia a lot, which i know is contentious, but i think they have a genuinely great setup (juvia's someone who's got wild ideas about love, and immediately falls for this guy, who's not into her at all but is also just a better person than any romantic attachments she's had before, and then she's figuring out herself and her place in fairy tail over time. the first two big juvia moments the show has after her fight is when she does a unison raid with lucy and when she refuses to fight cana. her initial feelings towards gray are also... quite shy? like she definitely does follow him around a bit but i think half of that is bc she wants to join fairy tail) and then it just doesn’t resolve well (over time she gets more pushy in a way that reads as jokey but is also uncomfortable, and her character kind of stops being about anything but gray) I’d love to see a version of gray & juvia where gray’s non-interest in her is actually beneficial for her, because she’s not rushing into something with high, perhaps fragile emotions, and she gets to grow as someone outside of gray, and juvia’s protectiveness of gray is done in a way where she’s not pushing him to like her, but rather protecting him just because that’s what someone who loves him would do. this is great for juvia, and also great for gray, who probably could use having someone to check in on him every once in a while. bring them into being seriously friends without pushing romance, and then we could maybe try a romance. it would be slow burn as hell. it would be delightful and entirely to my taste. I have so many wips abt this.
related to that, I like juvia a lot so gajeel & juvia’s relationship as well as lucy & juvia’s relationship is really fun to me. gajeel and juvia especially I would loveeee to dive into their friendship. I think they have a shared experience in phantom lord but also weren’t friends at the time and had a lot of different things going on, so it’s neat that they are still like. looking out for each other because of that past.
jellal & erza have great setup, it’s amazing drama and I think it just. works. completely. after the 7-year timeskip I think it loses some steam, and then it never really recovers in terms of having a sense of weight and depth. I am nonetheless fond of it.
what else… I am really into sting/rogue, I’ve got a fic for that one, and I like freed/laxus a lot, too. I’ll be the first to admit that in canon, freed & laxus don’t have that many meaningful interactions (freed is obsessed with him in a sort of like. comical unrequited crush way bc haha, gay people) and laxus cares for everyone in the raijinshuu pretty equally it feels. However. the initial arc? the fantasia arc? I think the raijinshuu are at their best there, and I wish they had gotten developed into smthing more interesting. once again I have a lot of headcanons.
i think gajeel & levy probably has the smoothest execution of any relationship, but kind of wish levy's character had a bit... More to her? like she's very smart but lucy also tends to do a lot of the smart stuff, and she knows runes but freed is clearly the runes guy, and i just wish we could've gotten more than that? I’ve been messing around with headcanons relating to her recently…
that’s the thing with a lot of fairy tail ships. I think a lot of the character relationships have really interesting ways of looking at them bc there’s just so many characters I like. like I think gray & erza’s relationship is really neat. I wish we’d gotten to see more of gray & cana as friends… it’s so cool that gray & loke are friends to the point that he’s the guy he picks for S-class trials… I like lucy & loke’s relationship a lot (like, the fact he joins gray for those trials is a display of how free he is even while she has his key, and also the loke mini-arc is one of my all time favs). I love the deal with the whole strauss siblings and would’ve been interested in seeing freed & mira interact some more. I don’t really care about it in canon but I think elfman & evergreen is actually a really interesting setup, since they’ve both got this sense of… vanity about them? (evergreen wants to be titania, queen of the fairies, and elfman valorizes manliness. there’s interesting places to take that!). raijinshuu friendship, I’m really into that, like, laxus feels like such a Solo guy and yet he willingly carts around a team with him, and also everyone in that team have kind of freaky eye powers, as far as I can tell. what’s that about. did u upturn your nose at fairy tail’s misfit guild while hanging with a misfit crew? it's a team that characterizes laxus well… I know he’s technically not Part of the raijinshuu team but Cmon he literally is.
all that to say. you could probably sell me on a lot of ships. but natsu/lucy, gray/juvia, sting/rogue, and freed/laxus are probablyyyy the ones I think about most and actively write for (and don’t publish LOL. I need to actually finish one of these things, but the issue is I’ve built so many headcanons I feel weird abt it sometimes. I would loveeee to talk abt them sometime tho)
but even saying that, a lot of the stuff I write reads very ambiguously platonic, so like. if I got sold on something, I’d probably get into it.
anyways anon ty for the question! i love chatting

I don't think I've seen anyone talk about this but there's a couple things about Phantom I want to talk about.
First of all, I'm curious how Jose came to despise Fairy tail. Cause although we only know of two guild masters, I doubt Jose is the second guild master seeing as FT has been around for about 100 years with Phantom forming close behind.
Now I'm not sure if this is fan speculation or canon but I have seen the wiki say that Geoffrey is an ancestor to Jose which would make a bit more sense on Jose hating FT if he's been raised to believe that his whole life. Geoffrey might be Jose's grandfather, maybe great grandfather similar to how Yuri is the grandfather of Ivan and the great grandfather of Laxus.
I can perhaps see Geoffrey choosing to continue his beef specifically with the Dreyar family as 1. Yuri is the only founder to have a kid that is known to the public as only Hades knew of August being Mavis and Zeref's. And 2. All the original founders are no longer around. Yuri is dead, Mavis is frozen, Warrod left and became a wizard saint and Hades formed a dark guild. Which would also lean in to Jose potentially going after Laxus alongside Gajeel and Juvia.
Cause Jose has already tried to fight Makarov and if anything I can see him teaming up with Ivan because they both hate FT. But you know what would hurt Makarov? Seeing one of his kids hurt. Jose knows this from the phantom arc and what better option than Laxus right? In Jose's head, Laxus would be the perfect target because he's both related to one of the original founders and Makarov himself. Gajeel and Juvia being targeted would be a no brainer. They'd be seen as traitors for moving on and joining FT. I wouldn't be surprised if other former phantoms were targetted as well seeing as all former members we've seen have redeemed themselves. (Juvia and Gajeel joining FT, Totomaru becoming a teacher, Boze and Sue seen supporting FT in Fantasia and a couple other filler episodes)
Second, Jose is definitely abusive to his guild. He lets them beat on each other with no regard for anyone being hurt, he actively praises Gajeel every time he mentions harming other people, He insults Sol, Juvia and Totomaru for losing to FT mages. Abuse is something that is learned so if Jose was involved with Phantom his whole life like the Dreyars with FT, it wouldn't shock me if we found out that was how he was treated or how he watched others be treated around him and started copying that behaviour.
Which leads into a question/theory I have. Do you think Jose planned for Gajeel to be the next Guild master?
Cause think about it right? Gajeel is considered the ace of the guild. He's the only S-class not to be apart of the element four. He's also the most destructive and aggressive.
Now I'm not saying the EF aren't bad, they all did things that they shouldn't. But Gajeel has the biggest offense list for just the phantom arc.
Juvia and Totomaru are the least offenders. Both had very short fights that weren't really that serious to begin with, Totomaru just being a wee shit and Juvia being distracted by her crush on Gray. Yes Juvia did kidnap Lucy but also probably would have completely missed her if Sol hadn't been there.
Sol and Aria are next as both came close to killing at least one person, Sol being Elfman and Aria being Makarov.
Gajeel did a lot more. He instigated the battle by destroying the guild hall and attack Shadow gear. He attacked Reedus and Loke. Kidnapped Lucy the second time, a lot more aggressively than Juvia did. He beat on her several times including in front of Jose and he was absolutely going for the kill in his fight against Natsu. Why else use a chainsaw that he had not used up to that point.
Jose is also shown interacting with Gajeel the most and praising him for things he's done. I wouldn't be surprised if its supposed to be like some kind of father son thing since Jose doesn't have kids and found Gajeel as a young child so he's just raising him how he himself was raised. Whatever kind of relation it is, its not a healthy one considering Jose actively encourages Gajeel's aggressive behaviours with the closest thing to scolding being that the person he attacked better not have been the target. Plus how Jose speaks reeks of manipulation.
But considering how he acts with Gajeel and how Gajeel himself acts, it doesn't seem farfetched for Gajeel to be picked as the next guild master. While FT picks based on multiple qualities, Phantom is focused on power. And Gajeel has a lot of it and his power is very unique too. (While we are seeing dragon slayers becoming a lot more common now compared to the beginning of the series which is a bit of a shame since I do miss that feeling when someone being a dragon slayer was unexpected and rare like when we first got introduced to Gajeel, Laxus, Wendy and Cobra. It was still a new thing and it was introducing two different forms of getting dragon slayer magic. Now there's (Including dragonised and dead slayers) 21 named dragon slayers which is more than what we've seen of a lot of other magics that are supposed to be common)
I do wish we could get more info on Gajeel's phantom days. Like how he came to be in phantom. It would not only be Gajeel backstory but give more insight to Jose and how he raised the kids in his guild (Gajeel, Juvia and Totomaru) compared to how Makarov raised his.
Like cool, Jose is a character made to be disliked, I get it. But why not give us more than that? Give us a reason for why he acts like he does. Why he doesn't like FT. Why he so desperately wanted to fight Makarov.
I dunno, Maybe I'm just a sucker for slightly fleshed out villians (Even though Acnologia is like my fav villian and he has no personality in the manga outside of destroy all dragons (His BS is anime only even if I like it)

Fanfic writing asks, 5 and 59?
Okay, this took a few days to answer but part of that was getting a clear count of my WIPs. I'm defining them as anything I've started with a general premise in mind (so I excluded the ones where I have a scene or two and nothing else). I also wanted to give a quick summary of the idea - so you'll notice that the ones I've already started posting have a different summary here than on AO3.
Question 5: How many wips do you have?  What fandoms/pairings are they for?
Grand Total: 10
Fairy Tail: 4
Bring Your Own Boy - Gajeel x Levy Modern college AU: The Fairies are an all girl cheer squad and if they can manage to make it through the season with no injuries Coach Mavis has agreed to let them bring in guys to stunt with.
Dreaming of You - Gajeel x Levy Soulmate AU: Since Levy was a girl she loved fairy tales. She especially loved the stories about soulmates dreaming of each other long before they meet. Her own dreams of the creepy clearing, people she's never, and dragons are not the same at all. Finding the origins of the myth though, that is right up her alley. Even if it means playing nice with the angry mage who insists he can speak a dead language.
See All My Scars - Gajeel x Levy Soulmate AU, but canon compliant: A soulmark is a dark patch of skin that shows where your soulmate will first touch you. Which is why Levy has been hiding the soulmark on the back of her neck for almost her entire life. Gajeel's soulmark on his fingers is harder to hide. But living with marks in full color may be harder than trying to ignore them.
Moving - Gray x Juvia Drabble collection: Moving forward doesn't always mean moving on. After Fairy Tail's disbandment, Juvia has to face Gray and accept whatever he wants. Even if it's her leaving his life for good.
Game of Thrones: 1
Cursed - Gendry x Arya Modern AU with Good Witch influence: The Stark family was not cursed. Despite opinions (and circumstantial evidence) to the contrary. And there was no way letting Robert set her up with one of his kids was going to fix the curse, even if there was one (which there isn't). Gendry just wanted to know his genetic risk for health issues, since his mom had passed when he was a kid and his dad was long gone before he was born. He didn't want (or need) this many siblings.
My Hero Academia: 1 The Space Between Where I Am and Where I Was - idek how to categorize this one yet What if: Enji and Rei body swap across time due to a Quirk interaction. They could make everything better, or so much worse. There's so much they don't know - about each other, about the dominos that fell to create their initial timeline.
Naruto: 4 Runaway Train - Gaara x Ino A harmless fling, that was the goal. But harmless flings don't leave scars. Even after the physical heals, the heart bleeds.
Harbor Having Fun - multi sips, 13 in total (I love to dream big and then torture myself) Modern AU: Christmas is here and everyone is getting ready for this year's annual party. So Naruto is asking for peace? They can manage that. Kiba just can't find out who Neji is dating, Hinata can't know what Naruto is planning, Tenten needs to face her commitment issues, Ino and Gaara have to keep their cold war civil, Temari has to keep her revenge plan from blowing up in her face, Shino and Karin have a secret, and a snowstorm threatens to strand people in different states. They can do this!
Missed Connections - Shisui x Sakura Soulmate AU: A thin green line and a Sharingan is Sakura's only hint to her soulmate's identity. She's determined to find out who he is. Too bad she keeps running into Shisui. And why is Sasuke being so obnoxious lately?
Family Comes in All Forms - no ships Modern AU: What it says on the tin. In a modern setting, how do the familial ties between the characters exist? Jiraiya adopts three orphans, Gaara spends more time with his mentor's family than his own father, and someone started the tradition of family photos. Sometimes Kushina wants to punch them, because their calendars are way too full.
Question 59: Have you participated in any fic events/writing challenges?  If yes, what were they and did you enjoy them?
I recently tried my own Promptober - that was enjoyable, some of my first postings for couples I hadn't written before and Fall/Autumn got a way bigger reaction than I expected. I didn't complete all 31 days, life went a little crazy on top of general busy-ness in October. Depending on what next October looks like I may start prepping for that in August (give myself time to figure out the prompts).
Generally I get nervous about participating in larger fic events and writing challenges because I'm not consistent with writing every day so there are days when I can output a couple thousand words and days where I just a few sentences. For example, working on Dreaming of You, I kinda wrote myself into a corner and I'm trying to work my way out so I'm writing from Zeref's POV for the first time since he will provide plot information. But it's so foreign to me that I'm getting a few sentences out at a time. But when I first started the fic, I spat out a couple thousand words very quickly since the general premise is based on my experiences with lucid dreaming.

I only sometimes revisit the NaLu tag because I'm curious. Mind you, I haven't paid attention to the Fairy Tail fandom in ages, and while I have fond memories of reading/watching FT, I only sometimes stop in to see what's going on in 100yrsQuest.
First of all, I had no idea the Fairy Tail fandom was toxic, let alone the NaLu fandom? Is this really true??? I'm just curious why. I just don't see what they'd have to be toxic about. Maybe some need to loosen up a bit, yeah? Especially if they're attacking innocent people who don't ship NaLu and aren't actively and rudely campaigning against it.
Also, so like ... not to offend anyone but I had no idea NaLi was still a thing? Like, I thought NaLi was a ship that died out ages ago. As in, some people still like it but the gerneral consensus was that there was no way it was going to be canon. But there are NaLi shippers still around and they're also toxic???
I mean, you can definitely like NaLi, it doesn't need to be canon for you to like something, and that's coming from a rarepair shipper. But apparently NaLi shippers are trying to say NaLu doesn't exist and they're being aggressive about it. Which ... to say Natsu and Lucy see each other as just friends ... that's alittle ignorant?
Idk what to call it. All I know is that Mashima isn't complicated. He shows you and sometimes outright tells you who he himself ships together. No matter my own feelings on the ships, Gruvia, Gajevy, and Jerza are all canon ships. And I say "canon" with the understanding that Mashima purposely put them in romantic situations, sometimes without either characters admitting it. I'm pretty sure none of the mentioned ships have said they love each other, but it's obvious by the way they interact. Levy and Gajeel slept with each other, Jellal and Erza obviously cherish each other, and while Juvia has always had a creepy stalker crush on Gray, Gray has more recently accepted her and her affections, going so far as to blush around her and even return some of her affections in his own Gray-like fashion.
And like the above ships, Mashima has made it no secret how much he likes NaLu. He supports them in his social media art and he supports them in his own writing. You'd have to be willingly blind not to see that. So, I'm like super confused why NaLi shippers are aggressively denying NaLu's existence in canon.
Sorry for the long post, but in summary:
1. Why are NaLu shippers being toxic? Your ship "won" (technically, anytime the writer ships your ship you "won"). Let people ship what they want to ship it's not going to hurt anyone nor change how canon NaLu is.
2. Anyone who thinks NaLu only see each other as "friends" are somewhat blind. You can make a case that, Natsu is ignorant to romance and thus wouldn't categorize Lucy as a "lover" or girlfriend in his head, but he definitely views her differently by the last chapter of the og FT. And it's even more obvious in the spin-off sequel.
3. I only posted this because it was on my mind and I wondered what other people might think. I'm not particularly pressed or invested in the discourse, but it still sucks that it's happening apparently. Literally, I had no idea.

Warnings: none that I can think of?
Genre: fluff and comfort with a pinch of angst
⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
The guild that was once rowdy because of the famous fights between Natsu and Gray had been replaced by their just as obnoxiously loud children, some would even say more. The biggest difference was the children actually getting along.
Nalu, Natsu and Lucy's child was counting while Gray and Julia's twins along with Gajeel and Levy's son hid somewhere in the guild.
Squeals could be heard from the child Nalu managed to find, while laughter echoed of her lips. Kei ran away yelling that the other three cheated, resulting in a chase by the said cheaters.
"You look grumpy" you pointed out as you observed the scowl that was placed upon Laxus's face while his eyes followed the playing children.
"I do not" he shot back as his gaze shifted to his son that was curled up in your side in an attempt to shield himself from harm.
"He'll be fine" you reassured him already knowing why he looked unamused.
"I know" he sighed "I just wished he had a better way of communicating"
You smiled softly at the man in front of you. It was a shock to you both when you learned that your son was born with no hearing. But there was never a moment where one of you wished he was different, on the contrary, the moment you found out about this information, you both immediately learned how to use hand signs and did your best to teach him.
Even though a lot of the guild members learned it as well, some excelling better than others, it was a difficult task to ask of the children who were all around the age of 4 to do the same. You knew you couldn't ask that of them because no child at that age would want to study willingly.
Add to the fact that your child was extremely shy, none of the kids really interacted with Noah, until today.
"Uhm, (Y/N)" it was Nalu that pulled softly at your sleeve in an attempt to grab your attention.
"Yes, Nalu?" You gave her a closed-eyed smile, encouraging her to continue.
"Why does Noah never talk? Or even play with us?" She asked as the other kids behind her nodded their head in agreement.
You'd say you were surprised by the blunt question, but it was still Natsu's child, so were you really?
Lucy, who was seated nearby, heard the question and immediately went to scold her, but you stopped the celestial mage "it's alright Lucy" you smiled at her before turning your attention back to the small children in front of you "you see, Noah doesn't hear things as we do, so when you talk to him, he wouldn't be able to understand what you say."
"So how do you talk to him then?" Kai piped up, once again you weren't really all that surprised by the straight forward question as he was Gajeel's son.
"By sign language" you smiled as you turned a bit to your child and signed what you were saying to him "Noah, the kids want to say hi to you"
Noah blinked at you and shifted his eyes slowly to the four children at the other side of you, he was still shielding his body partly behind you but waved back nonetheless.
A smile grew on each of the children who frantically started to wave back, their smile soon infecting your son's.
"Alright! Thank you for the information, (Y/N)!" With that the four kids were off again, playing God knows what.
Laxus signed to Noah that he should go and join them, but the boy rapidly shook his head, crawling back into your side, the safe heaven that shielded him from the outside world.
A sigh escaped Laxus lips at which you giggled softy. "Don't push it, after all, I'd call this progress, wouldn't you?"
"Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry, I know I should be more optimistic, but it's just difficult to see him longingly look at the other playing children, knowing he has no efficient way to communicate with them." Laxus explained his worries.
"It's okay. Give it a bit of time, I'm sure he'll warm up" you smiled at him as you grabbed his hand from across the table and gave it a little squeeze.
What you didn't expect, was the same four children returning to your table and signing if Noah wanted to play with them. Even though it was a little flawed, your son understood them perfectly. He gave them a small nod and crawled out of his spot from beside you.
You and Laxus were left perplexed as your son joined the others in their game "what just happened?"
Lucy and Levy noticed both of your confused expressions and decided to explain what happened the night before "the children came up with the idea to learn sign language after you explained to them how you communicate with Noah. So, last night when we all went home, they each individual asked us if we could teach them some hand signs"
"Granted, it's not perfect, and they'll definitely come and ask what some words mean from time to time, but I believe they learned enough to get little Noah to play along with them" as on cue you could hear Mei and Tobi ask Juvia what hide-and-seek was in sign language. The water mage happily explained and showed them the right hand gestures before the twins ran off again.
"Thank you guys so much" you whispered as happy tears started to form in the corner of your eyes.
"You should thank the kids, it was their idea after all" Levy smiled as the three mothers observed their playing children.
"I'll make sure to bake them something as a thank you," you said as you turned to the man you loved to see that he was still starstruck by the event that unfolded before him. "Who would've thought they'd learn sign language so quick, hu?"
"I can't believe I wanted to change this guild so badly at one point" he shook his head at the thought. He had never been as proud to be a part of Fairy Tail as of right now. The warmth everyone provided for his son was something he'd never forget, and he vowed to repay that feeling, no matter the cost.
That night Noah was completely exhausted from laughing and running around so much, but that big smile that was still plastered upon his lips as his mind had already drifted to another world, showed it was all worth it.

gruvia drabble
author’s note: well. everybody. are we surprised??????? i dont write a thing for like months but then i get inspiration and here i am✨✨ also im not gonna lie... this fic is a lil bit ooc. v much for gray. its believable but like BARELY. so BASICALLY if u dont read fairy tail 100 years quest, this might not make a whole lotta sense to u, but i think youll be able to follow! SO! this fic is based off of the gruvia interactions in the latest fairy tail 100 years quest chapter! chapter 63!!! enjoy my beautiful ppl!:)❤️❤️❤️
*
Without missing a beat, Juvia launched herself at her darling Gray. “Ahh...” She lulled with great relief. “It’s so good to see you safe, Gray-sama.”
Her arms naturally wrapped around his neck as she sweetly nuzzled her face right into his. The two of them were certainly beat up from their battle with Metro, and they had the bandages wrapped around themselves from head-to-toe to proove it. Yet, naturally, Juvia didn’t mind. Her body was achey, sure, but all she could feel was warmth from her overwhelming love for Gray.
She felt Gray’s muscles soften. He brought his hand up to the top of her head, bringing her into the crook of his neck, and he followed her lead by resting his cheek atop her head. He couldn’t help but smirk at the sight of Juvia safe and acting like her normal self. After finally getting a moment to breathe, this was the first time in a long time he was really seeing Juvia where they weren’t fighting or she wasn’t partially brainwashed by Touka. It was nice to see her back to being unequivocally Juvia.
“You too.” Was all he replied, but that was all he needed to say.
Gray could hear the gasps going around the guild at the sight of he and Juvia, but he paid it no mind.
“Ok tiger, think you could maybe put some pants on?” Cana’s call to Gray was what finally snapped him out of it.
“Gah! My pants!” He exclaimed, flustered, breaking from his embrace with Juvia.
“They’re right here, darling!” Juvia quickly gathered his clothes. Naturally, she was always keeping track.
“Thanks.” He snatched them. He snapped his attention to his number one rival, and pointed at him. “Natsu, as soon as I get these back on, I’m kicking your ass!” He shouted.
“Eh?!” He responded. “Why me?!”
“Because you got to have all the fun taking down a dragon! Now I want a piece of you!” He taunted. He couldn’t deny that the combination of a couple beers, and the adrenaline rush from another Fairy Tail victory, was amping Gray up, to say the least.
“Bring it on!” Natsu grinned, and began cracking his knuckles.
Before they knew it, a bunch of the guys were rolling around like wild animals. You would’ve never thought they just faced one of the biggest battles of their lives, but, well, that was Fairy Tail.
“Get em’, Gray-sama!” Juvia cheered on, energetically, just as he swung a punch at Gajeel.
Juvia went back to the bar to get some more drinks, and Gray was shortly behind her. “Aw man.” He flopped onto the seat beside Juvia, out of breath. “Those guys don’t mess around in a fight. Even when we’re already beaten to a pulp.” Gray snickered. He did love a good fight, but he couldn’t deny his body was tired.
Juvia hummed a giggle. “The same can be said for you. Juvia saw you throwing some solid punches.” She handed him a beer.
“Did you expect anything less?” Gray playfully smirked at Juvia, causing her to blush just a tad.
“Of course not.” She grinned.
“Lucy!” Gray shouted, and as he did so, he casually brought his arm around Juvia, placing a hand on her shoulder as they both sat. Juvia was really blushing now. She sat still and silent, afraid of ruining the moment.
Gray continued once Lucy turned to him. “Why don’t you give Natsu some of that booze? Maybe that would take him off his game and I could kick his sorry ass in one shot!” He joked.
The hand still weighed heavy on Juvia’s shoulder. Did Gray place it there by accident? Did he know what he was doing? Maybe he just needed her so he could keep his balance? Or maybe he was cold and wanted Juvia to keep him warm?
Natsu perked up “Give me all the booze in the world! I’ll still kick your ass!” Just as he said that, Elfman came up from behind him, and slammed his body to the ground. Gray and Juvia both laughed.
“Leave it to Natsu to pick a fight with just about anyone.” He snorted, but Juvia couldn’t pay much attention to what Gray was saying at the moment.
He casually brought his hand down for just a moment, and just as Juvia’s mind rolled with questions as to what he could possibly be doing now, she was given an answer. He softly took a lock of her hair in his hand, and ever so lightly stroked it. Juvia was frozen in happiness. She didn’t dare turn her head, but she did see Gray out of the corner of her eye, and he simply took a gulp of his beer, without seeming to mind at all that he was doing something completely and utterly unlike him—public affection. However, he was unbothered. He continued rhythmically running his fingers through her hair as if this was the most normal thing in the world to him.
“Maybe I’m bias, but beer is better when Mira’s serving it at the guild.” He said to Juvia as he looked curiously at his beer. While saying this, he even began to twirl a piece of hair between his fingers. The way her heart fluttered with each flip of his fingers was something she’d never felt, but wow— what a feeling. Unfortunately, Juvia could not hold back this reaction as shivers were sent all over her body rather noticeabley.
“You ok?” Gray stopped the hair stroking, and brought his palm to the middle of her back, still seemingly putting forth an effort to touch her, and he looked over at her.
“Y-yes!” Juvia jolted. “Juvia is fine!”
“You sure?” He raised a brow. “You seem a little tense.”
“No! Honestly! Juvia is completely fine, just a bit caught off guard is all!” She was starting to break a sweat. Leave it to her to screw up a moment.
“How so?” He finally pulled the hand away, to Juvia’s dismay.
“W-well...” She fiddled with her thumbs. “It-it’s just that... Gray-sama... was playing with Juvia’s hair, a-and you had your arm around me—and— Juvia was just surprised, that’s all!”
“Oh.” Gray was the one who was a bit stunned this time. His cheeks turned bright red, and he couldn’t help but look away.
Honestly, he really wasn’t even aware that he was doing that until Juvia pointed it out. He was taken aback by himself, admittedly. It wasn’t like him to be a hands-on type of guy. However, what he did know, was now that he knew he wasn’t touching her, he felt a desire to touch her more than ever. It was like once he knew she wasn’t in his grasp, a piece of himself felt lost. He wanted his arm around her. He wanted to feel her soft blue waves run through his fingers. He wanted to feel her warm embrace in his arms. So, even though he didn’t make a conscious effort to be physical, it was what he wanted. He wanted to feel her, and thus feel comfort. Feel serenity. Feel happiness.
“But, it’s ok!” Juvia leaned towards him. “Juvia didn’t mind at all! Not one bit! Oh, Juvia is so sorry! She’s insulted Gray-sama! As an apology, you may touch Juvia wherever you want!” She stood up and proudly spread her arms and puffed her chest, displaying herself for Gray.
Gray’s whole face burned fiercely. “Ah, jeez, would you sit down!” He snapped, and he took Juvia by her shoulders, putting her back in her seat.
“Juvia is sorry!” She exclaimed. “It’s just that, it’s not like Gray-sama to show any sort of affection in public! Juvia doesn’t know how to act!”
“Yeah, I guess.” Gray nervously scratched the back of his head. “I dunno’, it’s just that, well, after so many of these fights and always putting our lives on the line, it’s just hard to believe we’ve made it this far. On top of that, seeing all my comrades safe and...” He paused. “Seeing you safe after all of this... it just makes me feel so relieved. And, well, basically, I’ve come to realize that life is short.” He looked down. “Really short. And, I don’t wanna waste time worrying about stupid stuff. I just wanna’ do what’ll make me happy.”
He finally locked eyes with Juvia. “And you make me happy.”
Tears rushed to her stunned eyes. “Oh, Gray-sama!” She threw herself onto him all over again. He reciprocated almost instantly, placing a hand on her back. She looked back up at him, eyes glazed with tears. “You make Juvia happy too.” She smiled gently.
“Glad we’re on the same page.” Gray smirked, and then he brought Juvia back into his hold. They were both where they belonged- safe, and in each other’s arms.
As Juvia rested against his chest, she felt a comforting sensation that was already so familiar to her: Gray combing his fingers ever so gently through her long hair.

Answers (Gruvia/Gajevy Fanfic) Chapter 2
Originally this was my prompt for Gruvia Week 2020 day 3: perverse, but as it often happens, the story decided to become multi-chapter.
Here's the basic info to jog everyone's memory:
Title: Answers
Pairings: Gruvia, Gajevy (from ch 3), may include other ships as well
Summary: Everyone has secrets, but some are deadlier than others. Gray didn't imagine Juvia was hiding anything, until she was taken by the Magic Council for questioning.
Timeline: Grand Magic Games
Warnings: Major plot twist and incoming angst. 😏
Word Count: around 2000 words per chapter
Link: Ch 1 Ch 2
I hope you'll enjoy!
                                   ----------------------
                                 Chapter 2: Suspicion
"They sent you to infiltrate Fiore in case the invasion failed, didn't they?"
Standing up, Juvia glared at the two agents. "I refuse to stay here and listen to you make such accusations without evidence."
Doranbolt reached for the handcuffs before using his teleportation magic. Appearing behind her, he quickly placed them around her wrists.
Juvia gasped upon realising that they prevented her from using magic. Not good.
Returning to his seat at the table, Doranbolt gave her a determined look. "You're not going anywhere until we have the truth."
"If you give us useful information, we might consider not arresting you." Lahar said.
Juvia struggled against the cuffs, but it was pointless. "I don't trust either of you."
Doranbolt sighed. "Look, I'm giving you a chance to do the right thing here."
"The right thing." She rolled her eyes and scoffed. "Why do people always use that term?"
"If you don't cooperate..." Lahar threatened.
"You'll arrest me, I know." Juvia shrugged.
"But before that..." Doranbolt lifted a glowing hand. "I'll use my magic to see through your memories."
Juvia considered this for a moment, quickly coming to the conclusion that it wouldn't be the worst case scenario. After all, it's not like they would find anything useful there either.
"Go ahead." She shrugged, and the two agents seemed confused. "You won't find what you're looking for."
"Alright, then." Doranbolt pressed his hand against her forehead and closed his eyes.
                                   ----------------------
                                    At the infirmary
Gray was met with cheers and congratulations from his comrades once he re-entered the infirmary.
"Well done, Gray." Makarov was the first to congratulate him.
"It was about time." Cana rolled her eyes.
"You're a real man." Elfman yelled.
"I'm so happy for you!" Mirajane swooned.
"Wait a second..." Gajeel was the first to notice. "Where's Juvia?"
The mood instantly changed as people became confused, worried and honestly a little afraid.
"Gray?" Erza asked, leaving Natsu's side since she had been comforting him and taking a step towards the ice mage.
"She's gone." He answered and his mind replayed the weird moment from before in an attempt to understand it.
"Gone where?" Gajeel asked, his tone even more concerned.
"I don't know." Gray answered, sincerely. "She told me not to worry, but I can't help it."
"I'm confused." Natsu affirmed. "Did you guys get together or not?"
Everyone looked at the ice mage in expectation. "That's not really any of your business, flame brain." Gray snapped, a slight blush colouring his cheeks.
"Please." Cana scoffed. "If you wanted to keep it a secret, then you shouldn't have been so obvious."
Before he could protest, Makarov stepped in. "Gray, I understand you are a private person, but we just want you to be happy."
"And if being with Juvia is what makes you happy, we want help to make that happen." Levy continued.
"Speak for yourself." Gajeel muttered, glaring at the ice mage.
"I appreciate you wanting to help." Gray said after a few silent moments. "But I think it's up to me and Juvia now."
"And where is Juvia?" Makarov asked, looking worried. "Why isn't she with you?"
"She was taken by the Magic Council." The former revealed, ensuing shocked gasps and screams.
"But why?" Levy asked what all were thinking.
Defeated, Gray slumped into a chair. "I have no idea."
                                   ----------------------
                                   Outside Crocus
"I still can't believe she hurt Lucy like that." Meredy was still in disbelief over what they had witnessed earlier.
"It seems the Sabertooth guild doesn't care about humanity." Jellal stated pensively.
"Do you think they could be the evil we've been sensing?" Ultear suggested.
"Can't be." He immediately responded, shaking his head. "They were all in their stand yesterday when I saw the figure."
"They could've used an illusion like Raven Tail." Ultear wisely pointed out.
Meredy was thoughtful for a moment. "I don't think we should spend much time considering this."
"We've got bigger issues to think about." Jellal said, glancing at the crystal ball in her hands which showed the still image of Juvia walking away from Gray, following Doranbolt and Lahar.
They had been aiming to check up on Lucy, but once the image of the couple outside the infirmary appeared, Meredy insisted they watched this interaction. They knew why she was interested in the couple and couldn't deny their own curiosity.
Watching Gray try to confess was amusing and when they finally kissed the trio smiled in delight. However, the beautiful moment was soon ruined by the two Magic Council agents.
"Why do you think they want to talk to Juvia?" Meredy wondered.
"I don't know." Jellal frowned, worried and suspicious.
"It's not really our business." Ultear pointed out, making the image disappear from the ball.
"It could be, if she's involved in something dangerous." He told her.
"You don't think she is, do you?" Meredy's eyes widened, her disbelief clear.
Jellal and Ultear shared a look before he sighed. "I've always sensed that she had a connection to Zeref."
"Me too." The time mage admitted.
"But…" Meredy didn't want to believe it. She refused to. "She can't…"
"I remember meeting her when we were members of the Council, while she was still in Phantom Lord." Ultear mused. "There was a certain...energy to her which now that I think about it is similar to Zeref's."
"I didn't feel that." Meredy said, now conflicted.
"This without mentioning the fact that her file is nearly empty." Jellal remembered. "I always thought that was the fault of the orphanage where she grew up, but it could be something else."
"Well, whatever she's hiding, we should figure it out before someone gets hurt because of it." Ultear affirmed.
                                   ----------------------
                                       In Alvarez
"I still think that you should have killed her on Tenrou Island." Dimaria stated as the Spriggan 12 met with Emperor Spriggan to discuss the matter of Juvia Lockser.
"Why?" Irene questioned. "The girl is hardly a threat."
"You said the same about her father." Larcade observed.
"And she was right." Zeref spoke, silencing their argument. "Or are you forgetting that Daniel was the one who allowed us to dispose of the Council members that posed a threat to the Empire?"
"Yet why are we letting them live?" Larcade motioned towards the image of Doranbolt and Lahar that was shown on a screen.
"For now." The Emperor said. "But we didn't arrange this meeting to discuss them."
"No, we did not." Irene said as everyone became serious.
"We should focus on our latest mission to infiltrate Fairy Tail." Invel reminded them.
Dimaria voiced her opinion. "I still believe this is rather risky."
"I agree." Ajeel piped in. "Trusting a mere servant to gain us access to their inside information…"
"Well, if any of us went there they'd be easily suspicious." Brandish pointed out, looking bored as usual.
"Besides, we can't forget that our spy has a deep connection to one of their core members." August finally spoke.
"That is precisely why I chose them." Zeref stated with a knowing smile. "It's always easier for people to trust someone they think they know."
                                   ----------------------
                                   Inside the castle
"Are you sure that was the right call?" Doranbolt asked while organising the files.
"I don't know." Lahar let out a defeated sigh. "But we established that she's not a threat."
"That doesn't mean we can trust her, though." The former concluded, closing the now empty drawer on the desk.
"Of course not." The latter shook his head. "We'll keep a close eye on her and if she does anything suspicious, we can arrest her."
"Don't you think it would be better to take her now instead of waiting?" Doranbolt suggested.
As expected, Lahar disagreed. "We do not have enough evidence to arrest her now."
The former sighed. "Sometimes I hate having to do things the right way."
                                   ----------------------
                           Outside the Mercurious
Juvia left the palace feeling uncertain and unsafe. Even though she hadn't said anything incriminating nor did her memories reveal the truth, she felt like Doranbolt and Lahar remained suspicious.
She was grateful that they had let her go, though. The thought of being arrested and sent to ERA was terrifying, even more so when everything was finally falling into place.
Thinking back to her moment with Gray, she couldn't help but to smile. He had been so sweet, trying to tell her he felt the same and then politely asking if he could kiss her.
Juvia hadn't expected him to be such a gentleman, but it was a welcome surprise. She could only imagine how he would act if they did get together. At least she hoped this would be the outcome of the conversation they were meant to have later.
What if it isn't? She stopped in her tracks, suddenly overwhelmed by fear. Strange how she was more afraid of losing him than being sent to prison.
Another terrifying thought came. What if he finds out about Alvarez? What will I tell him?
Juvia sighed as she resumed walking along the palace gardens. She really needed to start figuring out what to tell him and everyone else about the interrogation. There must be a way to dissuade them from asking too many questions she couldn't answer.
She was about to start brainstorming when suddenly she felt a familiar presence. Stopping again, she looked ahead and sure enough there was a hooded figure not far ahead.
There was a moment of silence as Juvia stared at the figure, unsure what to do. Then, they suddenly removed their hood, revealing a familiar head of blonde hair and big brown eyes. It was Lucy.

The 3K event
Okay so here I am making a massive 3K analysis again. I wanted to do one of Gray Fullbuster because he's a character I relate to the most and he's definitely one of the more complex characters. The rest is under the cut, be warned its long & you might not agree with some things but its a fact of life to not agree with everything.
To make it easier on my poor hands I am going to divide this up by arc! I will list the arc at the top starting from the beginning of the story. It will be two paragraphs of his behavior for each arc!
Maco Arc:
Gray here first appears nude, fighting and asking Lucy for her underwear because he lost his. That is mostly the extent of his appearance during that arc. Analyzing that small moment we can conclude: He has a nude problem, He has a temper, Him and Natsu don’t get along very well. We can also conclude or make an educated guess based on the fact that he is nude and asks Lucy for her underwear: He is a pervert or has those types of intentions.
We also have only just met him during that arc. So there isn’t going to be a lot of information about him at first. Looking at his behavior, he is certainly interesting and seems to almost be brash. There is something about him that does say he has a brain under his head of emo hair.
Daybreak arc:
This arc focuses on Natsu and Lucy and Happy.
Lullaby arc:
This is where we learn alot about Gray. His interaction with Natsu before Erza shows up says that they are in some type of friendship. It is clear that they can stop fighting one another but it appears they just want to fight one another. We definitely learn Gray is a humorous character based off of his reactions throughout the arc. His behavior suggests he is scared of Erza and gets along with Natsu when he needs to. Gray also seems to be more on the calm side of things unless he gets mad. Gray doesn't show that much emotion within his face when calm.
Gray seems to show his feelings and thoughts through actions. He also has some weird behavior and even strips off his clothing. He is a quick thinker when it counts and during the train station section of the arc, we see that he is strong in his own right. That idea is reinforced by the speed and strength of his ice magic during the battle with Lullaby. Based on all of this we can conclude that Gray is on Natsu’s level of power, He is strong and emotional in a way most people aren't. He has a stripping habit based on how when serious and on the magic car he stripped off his top.
Galuna Island Arc:
Here we learn so much about Gray. The paragraphs will be larger so please be prepared to read that.
Gray is clearly traumatized and doesn’t react normally because of it, Before Erza arrives to take them back to the Guild he is calm and collected. This suggests that it is a facade or only one part of him. Gray also has a tendency to ignore the pain he is in or twist it around. Gray is shown to have been the sole survivor of his village and having lost his parents to Delliora, a demon from the books of Zeref. This makes his actions against Lullaby who is also a demon from the books of Zeref seen in an entirely different light than before. Gray is faced with his adoptive brother who is destroying the ice that is his mentor or mother figure to get to Delliora. Gray clearly believes what happened that day was his fault.
Gray also irrationally thinks that Delliora who has been sealed away under lost magic is alive. This is shown when he tries to commit suicide to end Delliora. Surprisingly enough it is Natsu Dragneel or his rival that saves him and fights against Delliora. This moment is such a huge action. Here is really where they become even closer on Gray’s end of things. For him Natsu just destroyed the monster that took everything from him, the very thing he likely had nightmares about for years. The same event he cant process correctly because he is so emotionally vulnerable and traumatized is ended by his rival. Gray was actually set free at that moment. Afterwards there is an air of Gray that he didn’t have before. He seems almost relaxed but not sure what to do about it. Gray cannot believe he's finally free and he is also still processing that Natsu Dragneel was the one who put himself between Gray and the nightmare of his entire life.
To Gray his whole life just changed. Not only was his master set free finally but his friend saved him from self destruction. Looking at that attempted suicide it puts Gray and his character in a new light. It is clear he loves Fairy Tail and would do anything for his guild. It is purely the most drastic change in a character because he had everyone fooled. This is the first analysis of him:
Analyzing that small moment we can conclude: He has a nude problem, He has a temper, Him and Natsu don’t get along very well. We can also conclude or make an educated guess based on the fact that he is nude and asks Lucy for her underwear: He is a pervert or has those types of intentions.
Gray wore a mask and he had everyone fooled. Even the viewer/reader.
Phantom Lord Arc:
Here Gray is lighter. His character seems at peace until he sees the ruined guild hall. Almost all of his hurt and agony is thrown out the window in favor of his family. During the moments leading up to the fight Gray is stressed and angry. Like the rest of Fairy Tail he is mad. During the battles Gray doesn't hesitate. However the most outstanding moment that showed his actual character was when he stopped Juvia from dying. When he accidentally grabbed her chest during an attack and immediately backed off. Not getting into Juvia's character at all here however her reactions to those events influenced Gray’s own reaction. He wasn’t rude and didn’t attack her after the fight. He let her lay there and even smiled at her because Gray despite the mask he wore has the biggest heart in Fairy Tail.
Loke Arc:
This arc shows us a relaxed and genuinely worried Gray. He knows something is wrong with Loke during this arc, and like a friend is concerned about him. The two are painted to be friends and they both clearly have a history together based on the way Gray is worried. Gray isn’t exactly appearing in this arc a lot so sadly that's it.
Tower Of Heaven:
This mostly focuses on Erza but it does showcase that Gray despite being scared of her genuinely cares about her. It also shows again that Gray is awkward and doesn't exactly know what to do when his friends are upset. He cares about them but he hasn't figured out how to approach it or handle it,
Battle of Fairy Tail:
There isn't really anything that can be said about this that I haven't already said.
Oracion Seis arc:
Gray instantly is concerned about Wendy and wants to help her. He also automatically considers her a friend. Gray when fighting against them is clearly upset about them trying to destroy Wendy’s guild. He is mad and saddened like he is when Fairy Tail is facing a conflict. Once again showing Gray is more emotional than people give him credit for. He also backs and approves of Erza’s decision to allow Wendy to join Fairy Tail. It is clear Gray wasn’t about to let her wonder off without knowing if she would be okay first.
Daphne Arc:
I have said it before and I will say it again, there is no way Gray “ I care about my family “ Fullbuster would ever do anything like he supposedly did in that horribly written episode. I can admit that some points of Fairy Tails plot is stupid and or badly written but I don’t understand how it managed to embody a cringey fan fic from the early 200s that is in first person pov and has only 700 words and multiple chapters with no spaces.
Edolas Arc:
Gray is again upset about mistreatment and that his guild is being harmed. He also is once again showing his thinking side when he goes along with the plan Natsu, Erza and Him come up with to save their friends. He is worried about his guild mates fighting the King, but of course is relieved when they all come back alive and just a little banged up.
Tenrou Island Arc & X791 Arc:
Gray is deathly protective of his guild and it didn’t go over well when Ultear hurt Juvia. Now during this Arc Gray is targeted by Ultear because she believes he killed her mother and took her away from her. She intends on murdering Gray for it. He however is emotional about it because Ultear is UI’s bloodline. Both Gray and UI had no clue that she is alive and they certainly if aware of it would have torn that organization to shreds to reach her. Gray when faced with a monster coming to destroy them is more concerned about his family than the impending doom. He does like the rest of the guild stares death right in the eye without a hint of fear.
As any Fairy Tail member knows they are all together and they are never once going to go through something alone here. In the end when woken up by members of his guild he is happy to still be able to interact with his friends and family.
Key Of The Starry Sky Arc:
This arc mostly focuses on Lucy and the relationships of her family. There are however moments where other members of Fairy Tail have their own relationships with her explored. With Gray he is worried about her and doesn't want to lose his teammate and friend. Their relationship however is shown slightly from Gray's actions when fighting and doing his best to prevent her death. He doesn’t exactly have a relationship with her outside of friendship however that doesn't mean Gray can’t view her as an important part of his life like he does with the rest of his guild.
Grand Magic Games:
Gray's love for fighting is definitely shown here. He is also downright cheerful during the games at points. But he still is angry when his guild is targeted and when his guild mates are hurt. Gray does seem to have his head on straight during his fights, even cheering for his brother and telling him to essentially stop being stupid. Gray does get concerned about Gajeel and the Dragon corpses purely because he cares about his friends and also because he doesn't know if he feels so happy knowing dragons got pitted against one another here. He has been accused of murdering Frosch by Future Rogue who comes back through the gate. However it is believed he is lying because when Gray meets Frosch he thinks the excess is adorable and instantly wants to befriend them.
However an extreme point to know is that Gray dies for a period of time. Shoving Juvia and Meredy out of the way of a magic attack he got hit multiple times. The final shot was right through his head. Gray was however saved by Ultear who sacrificed her own life to turn back time. He has expressed no memory of this happening but says he has a blank spot in his memories he isn't sure about.
Eclipse celestial spirit arc:
Here Gray goes to fight Cancer and return him back to normal for Lucy. We also learn that Gray can’t dance well but since he was put on the spot he threw a routine together for his friends sake. He is also relieved when his friend Like or Leo is returned back to normal.
Sun village arc:
Gray is faced with the obseratady of being turned back into a child. It is also revealed that Gray can make ice disappear. He cant make the Ice that is covering the village go away without some effort. After they get the flame back to its strength he is shown confused about the ice around them. He can also safely cool others down with his magic. It really shows how much he has improved.
Tartaros arc:
Gray finds his dead father. Even though he receives a gift from his father it clearly doesn't change the pain he is in because of the loss. He is really shutting down at the fact that he lost his father twice. Gray however handles his grief differently than another character. He knew from the moment he saw his dad that he was dead. Gray looked at him and saw that without a problem. The problem here is that Grays has a knack for looking at things as his fault. He views this event has something he caused. No other character twists their pain and grief so badly. Gray knew his father was dead from the beginning. He already lost him, it's not that the second time didn't hurt just as badly it's that Gray could have prevented this. In his head he could have had his father back in his life. To Gray he failed and wasn't strong enough to save his father.
Avatar arc:
Gray is lost here. His guild, his constant in his life is gone. He has lost that contact with them. Gray clings to the part of his family that is with him. Erza scarlet. Now during the arc he had to renounce Fairy Tail and play a dark persona that isn't him for almost a year. For almost an entire year Gray was a monster he created. A monster he created for Erza, for this mission he threw himself into. He went through a massive transformation and Gray while parts of himself are still there has changed. His world view has been altered and Gray now knows that not even Fairy Tail is going to be his constant. I have written about this on my Ao3 Littledanceingdragons it is under the title: Undercover. I am not going to link it here check the notes since Tumblr shadowbans any post with links.
When Fairy Tail is brought back Gray is back to his normal self and even looks relieved because his family came back for him.
Alvarez empire arc:
This arc caused Gray so much pain. I am not going to cover the Juvia & Gray scene fully, mostly because that scene was so horribly written for a core plot moment it felt so forced and out of character.
That being said I am going to talk about how Gray would rather die than hurt a guildmate. Now this is purely because I think Gray has been pushed to his limit. He lost his father, fought demons, lost his family, transformed into a dark persona for a mission. At this point Gray at his lowest develops irrational thinking and suicidal thoughts and actions. It is crucial to remember the past for this so here are they key points of multiple paragraphs:
Gray also has a tendency to ignore the pain he is in or twist it around. Gray is shown to have been the sole survivor of his village and having lost his parents to Delliora, a demon from the books of Zeref. This makes his actions against Lullaby who is also a demon from the books of Zeref seen in an entirely different light than before. Gray is faced with his adoptive brother who is destroying the ice that is his mentor or mother figure to get to Delliora. Gray clearly believes what happened that day was his fault.
However an extreme point to know is that Gray dies for a period of time. Shoving Juvia and Meredy out of the way of a magic attack he got hit multiple times. The final shot was right through his head. Gray was however saved by Ultear who sacrificed her own life to turn back time.
He however is emotional about it because Ultear is UI’s bloodline.
He is mad and saddened like he is when Fairy Tail is facing a conflict. Once again showing Gray is more emotional than people give him credit for.
Gray here at that point has lost it. Thinking back on those episodes it makes sense for Gray to snap at some point. He has merely done it now, when in a war, after believing one of his guildmates died. Logically that makes sense and it is understandable. Getting to Natsu vs Gray fight. Ignoring that it doesn't make sense for the cause for Gray or the cause Canon says is what happened. The fight between them was more than out of character. Mainly for a point that Natsu has addressed before the war:
Fighting when your friends are on the line isn't fun.
Yes, they fight one another constantly. However it is really more accurate to say: Spar. It is described as this:
If you spar with someone, you exchange light blows — either literally by punching each other, or figuratively by exchanging verbal blows. If you box, you might spar with an opponent at the gym while you're training. You don't strike too hard — it's just practice.
Or in other words, it's not serious. Gray and Natsu aren't trying to kill each other. The only reason it is mentioned is because Gray is clearly in a bad place there. He is having a breakdown. I also direct your attention to the fact that Gray tried to kill himself because he felt like shit over it.
 You all know the scene.

Gray Fullbuster, Juvia Lockser Genre: Multi-chapter, Romance, Comedy Rating: M for sensitive language and content
Keep on whispering in my ear Tell me all the things that I wanna’ to hear, ‘cause that’s true, that’s what I like about you
- What I Like About You, The Romantics
“Stop over. I’d like to take a picture!” Juvia hit him on the shoulders. She was unusually excited about the ad considering how she 'dead-pan’ called him 'that guy from the billboard’ the first time they met. “It’s the same as the one near the studio.”
Of course they were talking about that sport-drink billboard where he was wearing nothing but his aztec bandana and his full six-packs.
“C'mon, Juvia.” He whined, not really on-board with his girlfriend’s idea. “If you really want a picture of my abs I got it right here.” Gray said. One hand was on the steering wheel while the other slowly pulled the hem of his shirt upwards, teasing a little of that six pack he was talking about.
Juvia laughed dryly.
“Just stop over.”
Then, Juvia did the most 'tourist’ thing to do: posed and took photos with Gray’s sport-drink billboard in the background. She roped her boyfriend in and forced the poor guy to pose in front of his million-dollar deal.
“Just so you know, not everyone gets to score something like that.” Gray tried to save face as the ballerina had her phone out to take photos of Hoopster.
“Whatever. Just go pose in front of well… you.”
Gray could see Juvia folding her lips and fighting a laugh but that was one hell of good-looking abs right there and he should be proud of it.
Miles away, Gray could already see the sign – Isvan Home for Boys. The Ghini arrived at the entrance where a security guard on post greeted Gray with a one-hand salute. Thereafter, he let the black Lamborghini into the compound.
“Home for Boys?”
Gray only answered Juvia’s inquiry with a glance and a timid smile.
Ghini crawled in front of an average looking bungalow that sit on a wide area of land. All the while, Gray looked around for free space. He parked next to the ridiculous orange that was hurting his eyes, the Lava – Natsu’s Mercedes.
“They’re probably already inside.” He told Juvia as he cut the engine off of his Lamborghini.
He jumped out of his car and dashed to Juvia’s side. But the independent ballerina was already out of the car and had shut the door close behind her. Hoopster settled on holding her hand instead and leading her into the building. An older man waited for them at the entrance.
“Juvia, this is Mr. Gômon.”
The tall, rounder man had a prominent goatee and thick brows. He offered the new face a smile that made his eyes disappear.
“He’s one of my father’s closest friends and he runs this place.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Sir.”
“No need to be all formal, Miss Juvia.” The older man then turned to Gray to give him a quick hug and a pat on the back. “Always excited to see you 'round this time of year.”
Gômon informed the two that Natsu and the others were already inside. But he didn’t go in with the new arrivals. The headmaster left the responsibility to Gray who knew the place like the back of his hand. Gray guided Juvia deeper into the building, navigating the old hallway like he was just there yesterday. In the middle of the seemingly typical bungalow was an open space where the kids could run around on the grassy ground. The figures who were standing on it were familiar to Juvia but the children interacting with them weren’t. The children, all young boys ranging in age, were in uniform – Fiore Knights uniform.
Gray pulled Juvia’s hand into a stop and stayed at the end of the tiled hallway that opened into the open space.
“Every year we hold a sports clinic for these boys.”
Gray hasn’t told anyone but just a sight of these young boys crowded around his team, wearing smaller version of the Fiore Knights’ uniform, bouncing balls in their hands, he felt pride swell up his chest. He was once like them but these kids had it worse than Gray. Gray still had one parent alive. The kids were orphaned at a very early age.
“Something the guys and I do, off the record.”
“So, no press?” Juvia asked.
“No. I don’t like them turning everything into a spectacle.”
Gray turned to Juvia, readying to let a little fact about him slip out the box.
“This was actually my dad’s idea. When he was alive, he brings me here once a year. He’d teach us basketball and I get to play with the kids my own age.”
It was one of the many good memories Gray had with his father. He’d run around with the kids all day. It felt more like actually playing rather than practicing. At least, once a year, he got to play like a real child. But now that’s all it was, a memory. Gray knew Juvia felt sorry for him. He could see it in her big blue eyes. But he wasn’t sad nor sorry. On the contrary, being able to continue his father’s legacy was one of those moments Gray felt fulfilled.
“Hey, don’t fall in too much in love with me yet, alright?”
Juvia playfully smacked him on his right arm.
“In your dreams, lover boy.”
This was supposed to be a happy, important day and he wouldn’t go dampening the mood with sad stories.
“Look! It’s the Cap!”
Gray and Juvia whipped their heads to look at the direction of one of the kids pointing at them. Well, Gray to be exact. Once the other kids saw the Team Captain, everyone raced over and their force tackled him to the ground. Juvia had to step away for a moment before she got tangled in that excited little mob which devoured her boyfriend.
They were talking all together, visibly elated at his presence. Gray swore his brain was about to explode with the kids all talking at once. But Hoopster was able to give each one of the boys a high five; no men left behind.
“Alright, alright! Take it easy, boys.”
“Hey, Captain. Who’s the pretty lady?”
Gray assumed his boys were too young to watch the dance show not to recognize the prettiest lady in 'My Star Can Dance’.
“Everyone, say hi to Miss Juvia.”
Obeying the Captain’s instruction, the boys greeted in unison. It was easy for Juvia to work that crowd; she dealt with little girls in her studio and Juvia’s students loved her very much. She turned on her charm and that big bright smile; even Gray fell for it.
“Hey, Cap! Stop flaunting yer girlfriend and let’s ball.”
It was Gajeel’s turn to tease his captain. But he still made sure he got the point across, because the Center was right, they might just lose some precious daylight if they kept playing around.
“Alright, boys! Let’s give the Captain some time to change into his Captain uniform.”
Gajeel called and gathered the kids back to start quick drills.
“Yes. Change clothes.” Loke winked at Gray, that kind of wink he knew had some double meaning. Loke was the kind of guy who made everything sound sexual, even just the word broccoli.
So, his Captain gave him the finger.
Fiore Knights’ Team Captain apologized for Loke’s joke by telling Juvia to just ignore the dimwit. Gray hesitantly excused himself from Juvia to run back to his car and slip into his uniform. But he didn’t want to leave her alone in an unfamiliar place. Good thing his mother chose that moment to make an entrance, with President Wakaba in tow.
“Go get changed, Gray. I’ll entertain Juvia for a while.”
When Mika Mine walked past him, she decided to act like a real mother and reminded Gray to put towel on his back. She made sure both Gray and Juvia heard it.
“Mother!”
But Mika was already hauling Juvia into the building and leading the giggly ballerina to where the open court was, Gray presumed.
Gray quickly changed into his Fiore Knights uniform. All the way from the common restroom to the outdoor court, Gray reconsidered his decision of bringing Juvia along at the Home. He had no qualms about sharing that part of his life with Juvia. He wanted to open up to her, so that she could get to know him better, deeper. That he was more than just a pretty face and reliable dance partner. He wanted to have that intimacy with Juvia and maybe take the relationship to the next level. The problem was leaving her girlfriend to his mother’s care. That woman could talk! And Gray’s afraid he wasn’t earning the plus points he wanted.
Gray was now trekking through the earthy pathway leading to the open court. The open space design was the main reason why Gray loved the basketball court at the Home. Green trees surrounded the area, warranting that natural, fresh air. It was simply freeing.
He arrived at the basketball court where his team and the boys were doing basic drills. Natsu, Fiore Knights’ point guard, led the footwork exercise. Gray knew the pain of the 'low knee running in place’ exercise, especially now that his Vice Captain wanted to double the speed. But he wasn’t hearing any complaints. Burst of laughters echoed in its stead. It seemed as the boys were enjoying themselves. The girly giggles, one which Gray hoped was not enjoyed at his expense, came from the shaded side of the court where Gray’s mother and his girlfriend were bonding. Oh, Gray hoped Mika didn’t bring any of that embarrassing photo albums.
“Oh, nooo.” His face twitched.
No photo album but Mika was showing something in her phone. The woman actually went digital!
Gray jogged to the center of the court and joined the others. But he’s mind was still at the two women in his life sitting at the newly installed garden bench.
“Hey, Cap!”
Loke approached him first, breaking from the group to greet his Captain. Gray walked with him but he wasn’t paying attention even when Casanova audibly hissed.
“That doesn’t look good for you, Cap.”
That one got his attention and he engaged.
“What?”
“That.”
Loke was pointing at where the restrained laughters where coming. Both eyes, one blue and one darker, were still glued at the older woman’s phone.
“I bet now Mrs. President is showing your girlfriend some childhood photos.”
Gray wasn’t worried about that. He was a cute kid! Even when he was younger, Gray was already a chick magnet. Every middle-aged woman in their block loved to pinch his cheeks or place a kiss on them. Juvia would easily fall in love with that face. Such fact was the only thing keeping him sane.
“You know, little Gray. And you don’t want your girlfriend to think about little Gray.”
The Team Captain stopped dead in his tracks, pulling his son of a witch Small Forward with him. Gray turned to give Loke a look that was a cross between very, very confused and 'don’t f*ck with me’.
“Little. Gray.” Loke’s sly hazel eyes drifted down south. And he was very pleased with himself watching the Captain’s confused look morphed into horrified, as the idea registered in Gray’s brain.
Loke jogged ahead, filling the air with his loud 'I gotcha’ laugh.
The Small Forward was just obviously trying to pull his leg. In today’s game, the team of Fiore Knights resident Casanova was going against the Captain’s. He was just trying to get in his head. Couldn’t blame the man. Psy-war was all part of the game. And the ultimate playboy wasn’t above using such underhanded tactic.
Juvia heaved a long breath, letting the fresh air enter and expand her lungs. It was one of the things Juvia loved about leaving the city – fresh air and green scenery. It wasn’t only psychological, science backed up the benefits of the outdoors. She loved her life in the city but once in a while, Juvia wanted a change in scenery. That was why she travelled home as often as her schedule would allow.
Isvan wasn’t what she expected at first; it was too much like the city. When Gray won successive championships for Fiore, the previously unknown town became some sort of a tourist attraction. But the moment Gray turned the curve, Juvia saw the real Isvan – a simple country side.
Juvia never expected that Gray would bring her to Home for Boys. She knew Gray was a nice person, that there was something more to him that met the eyes. But she could have never seen it coming. It was Gray. He was a basketball god, on top of his game. He was young, determined and didn’t hurt the eyes. No, he was hot as hell. And when you were that rich and attractive, people say you could have anything you wanted. But if you look behind all those superficies, a real person emerges. Gray was actually funny, kind and despite that Prince Syndrome he got going the first time they met, Hoopster was actually a reliable person. He didn’t think about himself all the time just as those page-six stories would portray him to be. Figures, he was the Captain of one of the country’s successful sports team. His leadership carried Fiore Knights through three championships and it looked like Earthland hasn’t seen the last of them.
Celebrity-athletes like Gray would usually make appearances in just every charitable events some of them didn’t even know what for. For most, it was all for show, to gain some popularity. You could tell. You could always tell. When the kids ran to Gray, almost throwing him to the ground, Juvia felt a warm feeling swell up her chest. As she watched his nose crinkle and his eyes almost disappear from laughing, that warm feeling spread like wildfire.
She was just starting to get to know Gray better and so far, she liked what she was seeing. And when he said she shouldn’t fall in love with him too much yet, it was just impossible. She was falling in love with him every second.
Juvia couldn’t remember the last time she laughed so hard. Mika Mine was telling her all about young Gray’s adventures. Of course, she was thankful for every bit of embarrassing information. She made sure she committed everything to memory. At last, Juvia had something over Gray to tease him about. Icing on the cake? Mika Mine showed her pictures.
There was one with a grumpy, eight year old in a prince charming costume. Mika said Gray wanted to be Spiderman for that Halloween but she didn’t like him hiding his beautiful face. Gray refused to talk to her mother for a week. There was also one with Juvia’s boyfriend in his first basketball uniform three sizes bigger than his 10 year old figure. But her absolute favorite, one Juvia would save later in her phone was Graysia. Gray’s little sister – or so his mother wanted to imagine. Mika always wanted to have a little girl but since they couldn’t afford another child, Gray would do. On one random afternoon, Mika dressed Gray in a pink ball gown and putting on him red lipstick. Oh, Juvia just stumbled on a gold mine.
Like some kind of magnet, Juvia could feel Gray’s presence in the court. Her eyes already drifted to where Gray was, about to join his group, wearing his latest Fiore Knights uniform. He was talking to one of his teammates, Loke. Whatever it was about seemed to horrify Gray. He looked at Juvia’s way and she smiled at him. That seemed to put Gray at ease and about to bury one gloating Small Forward.
After a few stretches and drills, Gray had the ball in his hand. He was talking to the kids and they were listening to him intently. Juvia was sure it was hard to keep those little heads to focus. Juvia had girls and she couldn’t keep their focus for more than fifteen minutes by just talking.
Gray finished his informal speech with two hand claps that really hyped the children. The boys quickly dispersed and Fiore Knights were left in the court.
“Watch this, kids!”
Loke, the show-off, exhibited a clean through-the-legs dribble before his speed brought him near the basket for a clear shot. She knew the guys were just showing off but the kids were extremely immersed. Their young eyes were glued at the five tall figures. And for most of those kids, they were probably watching their heroes in action.
Each member of Fiore Knights showed complicated footwork before perfecting a basket. Natsu’s shot did three rounds of spin and the kids held on their breaths until the ball went inside the. Laxus, the Power Forward, and Gajeel, the Center, jumped and perfected a dunk shot, earning loud cheers from the kids. Gray, staying true to his professional nickname, stayed a little outside the 3-Point-Line arc to make his famous three-pointer. The ball shot upwards and landed on a natural falling arc. It went inside the ring in a perfect curve. The kids frantically howled and clapped as the Earthland National Basketball three-peat champions took a bow.
The Captain waved the children back on the court, dividing them into two groups. In order to distinguish them from each other, one group was wearing the predominantly red Fiore Knights uniform, which the team wore in this year’s championship; the other wore last year’s gold accentuated jersey.
“They’re going for a match.” Mika felt the need to explain. “Gray takes the red team and Loke takes the gold team.”
“The team trains in the City. Who takes care of the boys?” asked Juvia.
“I believe you met Gômon earlier? He might look a little out of shape but he’s a good player. Silver… Gray’s father and Gômon were members of the same basketball team.”
It’s been years since the mention of the Fullbuster patriarch’s accident and eventual death in the papers. Gray and his mother might have a different life now but Juvia could still see hurt lingering in Mika’s eyes.
“The two of them always went here to train the kids long before we had Gray.”
Mika might have been smiling, but it was rather a weak and small one. Juvia knew not to ask about it. Something like that never really goes away.
“Oh, look. They’re starting.”
The kids were in the middle of the court, scattered within the center circle. Two kids were crouched down opposite each other, waiting for Natsu to toss the ball. Juvia scanned the court for that raven-hair she came to miss. He was at the side bench on the other end of the rectangle, holding a board and a short stick, which turned out to be a marker, tucked on one ear.
Juvia has seen Gray in action since he was just an aspiring but talented freshman in the regional basketball league. He captivated Juvia the moment he made his first three point shot. Juvia followed him around after that, always present in his games, even roping Levy in that Gray-crazed phase. Until she saw him kissing the head cheerleader of the opposing team. The memory left an ugly taste in her mouth; she didn’t want that image to get stuck in her mind and ruin the weekend. So, Juvia locked that image inside the drawer labeled 'never to open ever’.
Natsu blew the whistle. The first half of the game wrapped up with a tight score of 30-34 with Loke’s gold team in the lead.
“Uh-oh, that doesn’t look good.”
Juvia turned to Mika, confused.
“He doesn’t like losing.”
That one Juvia could attest to. Gray was crazy competitive. He probably hated that Loke’s team was having a lead on his. But Gray wasn’t screaming at his team; he wasn’t lashing out at anyone. Instead, he was throwing high fives and light pats at his kids. Then, he gathered them in a tight circle, raised the clipboard flatly so that the kids could see something he drew on it. He was giving them instructions, maybe devising some strategy to win the game.
“His always like that when he gets in the zone.” said Mika, her midnight eyes looking over where Juvia was. “When his eyebrows meet in the middle like that, you know he’s serious.”
Juvia squinted her eyes to look closer. Just as Mika said, Gray’s thick eyebrows were furrowed in the middle as he spoke. The woman was right; Juvia have seen that look many times: when the score and the clock weren’t in favor of Gray’s team; when he was about to make those little last minute three points he became famous for; or lately, when Gray wanted to nail a complicated choreography. Hoopster never wavered when he set his mind to it. That was one of the many qualities Juvia liked about Gray – his fiery passion.
After the short break, his usual smile crept up Gray’s lips and he was back high-fiving the kids. He even playfully kicked the other team’s coach on his butt and Loke hit back with words, to which Gray said something back. Knowing Gray, it was probably something kids shouldn’t be listening to.
When the 3rd quarter started, the ball was in Gray’s court. They managed to score six points over Loke’s team. Casanova wasn’t looking happy about it but Gray Fullbuster was full on gloating. Juvia shook her head. Gray Fullbuster was a fine, funny, kind and very, very likeable man but he let that childish him slip out sometimes. Juvia didn’t mind, it made him who he was.
Gray was sending signals to his team. The ball was played by Loke’s gold team and they made the shot, cutting down the score gap. Juvia caught a glance of Gray and he engaged, holding the gaze for far too long apparently because Gray didn’t see the ball coming, hitting him sharply in the head.
By instinct, Juvia bolted up the bench and so did Gray’s mother. But President didn’t move. In fact, he still held on his cane while he put the other hand on his stomach as he let out a straight guffaw.
“Wakaba!” Mika reprimanded.
“What? It was funny.”
But the glare was boring through him like a good 'ol drill.
The kid who threw the ball ran to the coach with the other kids, all worried. The Fiore Knights, on the other hand, shook their heads biting down a laugh. Getting hit in the head with a ball was common to basketball players. It just didn’t happen that often to the great and mighty Team Captain.
“I’m alright. No need to panic.” Gray assured, shouting to the other side to ease the worries on Juvia and his mother’s face.
“See? It doesn’t even hurt. He’ll live, Mika.”
The kids crowded around the Team Captain who just scratched his forehead and still all smiles. He patted the kid’s head, the one who threw the ball that hit Gray, and told everyone to return to the game. They did and quickly finished up the 3rd quarter with Loke’s team still in the lead.
Gray took that hit for nothing.
Loke said something and earned a very discreet finger for it.
At the last quarter, Gray’s team managed to minimize the point difference but the gold team still bagged the win. There was no hard feelings though, it was just a game. Team Captain often emphasized how important teamwork and, of course, sportsmanship were. After the game, the kids automatically fell into two parallel lines facing each other. The coaches instructed them to shake hands. Even if some looked like they weren’t up for it, the kids still obeyed the adults.
“Alright, then. That’s our cue.”
Mika invited Juvia back into the building. In the middle of the green patch were two buffet tables. Round tables cladded in white were scattered around. Once the children changed into their casual clothing, they wasted no time get cracking at the table full of varied treats.
“Oh, look at that. They are already starting.”
Mika didn’t reprimand the kids but ordered the waiters to put more food on the buffet table and refill those which were running out. She excused herself from Juvia so she could assist in the party, leaving Juvia wandering alone at the open space.
“Hey, beautiful.”
Juvia let out a surprised gasp when she was pulled by the waist against a hard figure. She turned around to meet Gray’s meaningful eyes and slightly slanted smile.
“Not in front of the kids, Cap.” Juvia wrapped her arms around Gray’s neck, pressing her body against hers.
“You should call me that more often.”
“Cap? Cap-tain.” Juvia let the word roll on her tongue, which Gray liked very, very much.
“What are you doing?”
Juvia almost pushed Gray away when she recognized the voice, which was that of a child’s, and became highly aware of what they were doing. Although perfectly normal for couples, public display of affection shouldn’t be displayed in front of young eyes, like this one.
“I was just checking his forehead.” Juvia pretended to look at the area where the ball hit. “You know… where–”
“–where the ball made him its fitch? He was distracted.” The little boy said as he shrugged the shock that rounded two pairs of adult eyes.
“What?”
Gray had to crouch down and look the kid straight in the eye. He tried not to sound like he was scolding the kid.
“What did you just say?”
“You got distracted.” The kid answered, point blank.
“No, not that. The one before that.”
“Oh, that the ball made you its fitch?”
“That’s not even a word.”
“Yes, it is. Coach Loke told me so.”
Oh, so he was on Loke’s team.
“Well, Coach Loke is crazy.” Gray stood to his full height. “Don’t listen to him.” He tried to dismiss the kid by slightly shoving him forward.
“But he was right. You were looking at the pretty lady. That’s why the ball made you its fitch.”
“I’m going to kill that little fitch.” said Gray under gritted teeth so the little ears wouldn’t hear.
“Just go eat some hotdogs.”
“Those hotdogs on sticks?”
“Yes, Kenny. Those hotdogs on the sticks.”
“Cool!”
Then, Kenny ran off as if he didn’t just drop that 'fitch’ bomb on the two adults. And like he didn’t just insult Fiore Knights’ Team Captain. This generation’s Michael Jackson, some would say.
“Why are you laughing?”
Gray had his hands on his waist, pretending to narrow his eyes at Juvia, who was biting her lip to keep down a giggle. She couldn’t even open her mouth without laughing. The exchange between Gray and Kenny was quite entertaining.
“Let’s go and eat some hotdogs on sticks.”
Gray pulled her by the hand and led her to one of the long buffet tables. Holding hands was a safe kind of PDA which didn’t gross out the kids. But feeding each other those hotdogs earned a long 'eew’ from the crowd, even the old kids – a.k.a Fiore Knights.
