The idea of Tom reaching a hand out and giving Shadow a smile unknowingly acknowledging that Shadow is a person and that he’s a kid who woke up terrified and angry. Shadow being terrified to reach out, being scared to even try after Maria’s murder has a result, slowly breaking into unrelenting sobs just because Tom smiled and placed a hand on his shoulder. I need more acknowledgment that Shadow is a kid.
