Chapter 17: Sakusa Musubi
[prev] [next]
[masterlist] [kia’s slambook]
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“The pre-season starts tomorrow, right?” You ask Kiyoomi as the three of you prepare for bed. Kia is settled in the middle of his bed, wrapped in a blanket burrito. Kiyoomi has her like that so she’ll stop moving around and sleep immediately.
“Yeah,” Kiyoomi answers, taking the Kia burrito in his arms. She starts giggling, excited to be lifted up. “I said go to sleep or I’ll eat you.” Kiyoomi jokingly bites on her covered leg, making her squeal.
“No! No! Don’t eat me!” Kia shrieks in defense, her giggles turning into laughter. “Mama, help! Papa’s eating me!”
You grin from ear to ear, Kia and Kiyoomi’s interaction bringing joy to your heart. You let Kia be, continuing to talk with Kiyoomi. “Can we watch you play tomorrow? Kia has never seen you in an official game.”
“That sounds like a good idea. I’ll tell my manager,” Kiyoomi replies, gently throwing Kia back on the bed.
Kia manages to get out of the wrap, so she crawls going to you. He pulls her back by the ankles, bringing her back close to him. He starts tickling her sides, making her squirm around. “Mama! Help!” Hearing Kia’s sincere pleads, you sigh.
“Omi, that’s enough,” you tell your fiancé. He stops, Kia panting heavily. He whispers something to her and you immediately know what it is. “Don’t go near me. Stay there.” You warn them but they’re already crawling going to you.
“Give me a reason why I shouldn’t attack you?” Kiyoomi asks, hands on his hips. Kia mimics him, her hands on her hips as well.
“Why would you attack me?” You whine, raising your arms, ready to push them away.
“Wrong answer,” Kiyoomi says, hovering on top of you. Kia goes on his back, her arms wrapped around his neck, her legs hanging off his sides. “I’ll you another chance.”
“Yeah! Another chance!” Kia repeats, peeking her head at you.
You can’t help but smile. “I’m your fiancée?” You answer but unsure. Kiyoomi squints his eyes at you, thinking about your answer. He shakes his head, his hands ready to tickle your sides. “Kia! Save me! You love me, right?” You plead to your daughter.
“Kia, don’t help her,” Kiyoomi convinces. “You love me, too, right?” You scowl at him.
Kia goes down from Kiyoomi’s back and sits down beside the two of you. Kiyoomi sits back on the bed, waiting for Kia’s answer. She takes a good look at the to of you, but doesn’t answer.
“I thought I’d never get to ask you this, but here we are,” you chuckle, sitting up and leaning on the headboard.
“What are you talking about?” Kiyoomi apprehensively glances at you, worried about the chuckle you gave out.
“Who do you love more? Mama or papa?”
The room falls silent, the two of you staring at Kia anticipatingly. Kiyoomi crosses his arms, his eyes telling her to choose him. You smile at her, expecting to be chosen. Her eyes shuffle from you to her dad, a serious but empty look plastered on her face.
“I’m sure she’ll choose me,” you tell Kiyoomi proudly.
He scoffs, “If you’re so sure, why has she not given an answer yet?”
“She’s thinking of a way not to break your heart,” you reason confidently. He snickered at your sureness, also certain that Kia will choose him.
“The only one with a broken heart tonight will be you.” He sticks his tongue out, mocking you. You charge at him, but he grabs your hands and stops you. “Kia, tell your mama that you love your papa more.”
You two don’t get a respond, so you check her. She’s lying on the bed, her body under her blanket. You let go of Kiyoomi and fold your arms together. Kiyoomi pokes her but she doesn’t move.
“Good night,” Kia tells the two of you. She’s avoiding your question. You and Kiyoomi laugh, leaving her to sleep. The two of you end up with broken hearts.
You get off the bed to wash your face at his bathroom. He follows you, saying he has to wash his face, too. He locks the bathroom door, so you gulp. You keep your distance, wary of his actions. You know he’s up to something. And you know you can’t say no to him.
“2 meters,” you tell him, making sure you’re out of reach from him. He pouts at you. “We did it last night and Kia is just outside. Don’t even think about it.”
He moves closer to you, but you step away further. “The walls are soundproof.”
“I swear to god Sakusa Kiyoom, move any closer and I’ll-,” you warn him.
“You’ll what?” He says with a cocky tone, stepping closer to you. He lifts your chin up with his finger, his darkening irises piercing through yours. “You’ll what, angel?”
You cursed under your breath, your knees becoming weak. He smirks, seeing your pressed thighs. You pull him by the back of his neck, making him bend down so you can capture his lips into a kiss. He tilts his head to the side so you can kiss him better. He places his hand on your butt, squeezing on it. You spring in surprise and he takes this as a chance to lift you up by your thighs.
“Let’s take a shower.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Omi! What happened to your back?” The whole changing room of the MSBY Black Jackals team freezes at Bokuto’s question. They’ve all seen what Bokuto’s talking about. They just choose not to say something about it, afraid to be in their teammate’s bad side.
“Did Kia scratch you?” Hinata asks, worriedly looking at Sakusa’s back.
“It’s from (Y/N),” Sakusa replies nonchalantly, staring at his two curious and worried teammates.
“These idiots...” Atsumu mutters to himself. He takes a peek at Kiyoomi’s back and can’t help it but smirk. ‘He really went hard last night? And before a game day? Nasty. Just nasty.’
You on the other hand is walking Kia around outside of the arena, waiting for their manager. He arrives and gives you two the special passes that Kiyoomi has requested for. You thank him and he leads you two near the locker rooms so you can meet Kiyoomi before the game.
“Mu-chan!” Kia squeals, running towards Atsumu. You watch her as she latches on the setter.
Your eyes wander around the room, looking for Kiyoomi’s curly hair. You feel someone blow on your ear so you flinch, looking back only to see the man you were looking for. His mask was pulled down to his chin so you could see his whole face.
“Are you sure Kia won’t be afraid of the crowd later?” He asks you, staring at his daughter from the distance. “You know how loud it can get when the game starts.”
“I think she’ll be fine,” you reassure him. Kia sees Kiyoomi so she comes down from Atsumu’s arms and start dashing back to you and her father.
“Papa!” She screams on top of her lungs on her way to the two of you. Kiyoomi squats down, his arms wide open, ready to hug her. She prances to his arms, hugging him tightly. “I’m gonna watch you play!”
“Is that so? I’ll do my best then,” he replies, gently smiling at her. Their manager calls them back to prepare. “Give me a good luck kiss.” Kiyoomi lowers his head, Kia planting a kiss on his forehead. He stands up and leans down, waiting for a kiss from you.
“Win the match and I’ll kiss you,” you tease, chuckling. He rolls his eyes then puts his mask back on. “Good luck, Omi.”
You and Kia head to your designated seats, waiting for the game to start. The team starts to enter and the roars get louder, startling Kia. You calm her down, making sure she won’t cry. She sees Kiyoomi walk on the court, her fears forgotten. She leans near the railing, wanting to see him clearly.
“Kyo! Papa!” She screams on top of her lungs, waving her arms. Kiyoomi spots her and grins at her, taking the attention of cameras and the commentators. Sakusa Kiyoomi smiling is rare. They got to take a lot of footage for the fan service.
“Flying kiss,” you instruct her. She puts her small palm on her pouty lips, then flicks her wrist, making a smooch sound. Kiyoomi pretends to catch the kiss then swallows it. Kia giggles, turning his smile into a grin.
“Go Omi!! Get that service ace!” You screamed, your voice echoing through the entire gym. You even beat the Itachiyama Academy’s cheering squad loudness. He looked up to you, a little bit embarrassed. Not by you, but because his ears were turning red from excitement. He loved hearing you cheer for him.
You blew a kiss at him. You saw him shyly catch the kiss with his hand, making you smile. He wasn’t a big fan of PDA but he loved showing off that you were together. So he allowed all these cringe-worthy actions in public.
The whistle blew, signaling that he could serve. Before he could throw his service toss, he kissed the palm of his hand that caught your kiss.
And he got a service ace.
You look up to the screens hanging on the ceiling and see that the cameras have captured everything. Everyone is cooing and squealing, the commentators asking who the little girl Sakusa Kiyoomi is being soft for. Kia sees herself on the screen so she hides her face on your chest, shy. The cameras move away, giving her comfort back.
The game starts and the commentators introduce the players. “And for the MSBY Black Jackals!”
“Musubi?” Kia tilts her head to the side, the name of the team capturing her attention. “Can I change my name to Musubi?”
“You wanna be called Sakusa Musubi?” You giggle at her sudden suggestion. She nods, determined. “We can’t change your name, baby. Uncle Keikei chose your name for you. He’ll be heart broken if you change your name.”
“Then can we name my baby brother Sakusa Musubi?” Kia asks. You blink your eyes multiples times in confusion. Maybe you just misheard her because of the noise.
“What did you say baby?” You make her clarify.
“I want my baby brother to be Sakusa Musubi,” she repeats. You didn’t hear her wrong.
“You want a baby brother?” You chuckle, not taking her words seriously. You take it as one of her random babbles. “Did your uncle Keikei and Kenken tell you to say that again?”
“No. Papa.” Her reply makes you stop, your full attention on her.
“Papa?” You raise an eyebrow and she nods.
“Papa Kyo. He said you and him will give me baby brother.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Breaking in pt.2 w/ Aizawa, Shinsou and Bakugou
Request: Hi!! SoooOO I recently found your stuff and it's safe to say I am ✨obsessed✨ I LOVED the post you did of the BNHA reacting to someone breaking in with Hawks, Dabi and Todoroki. I was wondering if you could do another one with like Shinsou, Bakugou and Aizawa. I feel like Baku would throw mad HANDS. love your work stay stuff and have a good day x - anonymous
Okay I too love rescue fics and being kidnapped or held hostage is one of my favorite tropes. Throwing your kids in the mix is immaculat at least for me because I’m a die hard fan of domestic AUs. So of course I’m gonna write this trope again with these three idiots. I enjoyed writing the previous one so hehheehehehhe. Love ya. 💖💖💖
masterlist II rules
warnings: some descriptions of violence, some crying but fluff/comfort in the end.
Aizawa Shota II a son (Kaito)
-He was running late.
-He hated running late.
-Today the class had extra training hours and it lasted longer than he expected, so much so that he had to call for someone to fill in his spot on patrol tonight.
-In reality he really wanted to spend the night at home with you and your 2 year old son, canceling his patrol because the kids didn’t finish training was just an excuse.
-He had shot you a text informing you that he would be home tonight but a little later than usual.
-You had just picked up Kaito from his aunt when you got Aizawa’s message.
-You were excited to spend some time with your husband.
-Between your time teaching and his midnight patrols, the only moments you truly got to spend with him were in between the classes or when he came home for dinner and then immediately left.
-You knew he felt bad leaving the two of you alone for so long and you knew he beat himself up for missing precious time with his son.
-Opening your apartment door you were met with complete silence which was odd.
-Usually your three cats, Mochi, Mocha and Coco would meet you at the door, mewing and purring at your feet, Kaito always wanting to be put down so he could pet them.
-Now though none of them came and you immediately knew something was up.
-Your spidey senses were tingling.
-Setting your stuff down you held Kaito closer to you as you slowly walked around your living room and kitchen.
-Nothing seemed amiss.
-Kaito let out a small whimper and shifted in your grip as something moved behind you.
-Just because you retired from being a hero doesn’t mean your skills have disappeared.
-Oh no, as a new mom you were hyper aware of your surroundings and you easily dodged the blow that was aimed at your head.
-Whipping around you came face to face with a hooded figure that seemed more like a burglar than a villain.
-The dude's eyes quickly landed on Kaito and he let out a shaky breath.
-They definitely weren’t villains.
-People were aware of Aizawa’s family and any villain who tried to get to him through you would have known about Kaito’s existence.
- “Shit…. Yo she has a kid!”
-Another one came pounding from the hallway, eyes quickly landing on the baby you had clutched to your chest.
-Letting out an exasperated sigh the second intruder rolled his eyes, grabbing an umbrella from the hanger and slowly making his way towards you.
- “Just knock her out and tie her up, put the kid in a crib or something.”
-You weren’t about to let them touch your son, they wouldn’t even be able to come remotely near him.
-Activating your quirk, thrumming filled the air as you were prepared to fight them, to keep them away from the crying child in your arms and that’s when you saw him.
-He is always so silent, his footsteps so gentle on the marble floor of your apartment that you have convinced yourself that he is indeed half cat at this point.
-Aizawa was burning holes at the back of their heads, hair up as he activated his quirk, cancelling theirs.
-You kissed Kaito as Shota let his capture tool fly across the room successfully trapping the two burglars.
-In six strides you were next to him, checking for injuries on each other while simultaneously trying *and failing mostly* to calm your 2 year old down.
-The police were called, naming this whole incident as a random burglary and not a scheduled attack, relieving both of you; you didn’t wanna move again.
-That night Kaito slept in your room, cuddled on Aizawa’s chest as you were nestled under his arm.
-Three fur balls were curled at the foot of your shared bed, purring away lulling you to sleep.
-You found those three locked in your bathroom.
-Apparently Mocha had scratched the living hell out of one of the burglars and they had locked all of them in the bathroom for safe measure.
- “I’m sorry for this.”
- “Burglaries happen Shota, it wasn’t your fault. I’m glad you came when you did, fighting while holding Kaito would have been kinda difficult. I think I might be getting kinda rusty.”
-He stroked Kaito’s plush cheek before letting out a sigh.
- “I have never seen him cry like that. When he sees me he always calms down but now-”
- “He was scared, Shota. He saw them before I did and the whole situation shook him up. But he’ll be fine, he’s got us.”
-Giving you a kiss and then placing another one on his son’s forehead, he closed his eyes, arms tightening around the both of you a little.
Shinsou Hitoshi II a daughter (Kei)
-Hitoshi had been to every single pharmacy in the area searching for Kei’s medication.
-She had gotten sick and you had asked him to fetch some antibiotics your pediatrician had suggested you give her if her fever didn’t go down.
-Now, Hitoshi was getting desperate.
-It was the flu season and almost all the pharmacies had emptied their shelves from this particular antibiotic.
-He was ready to pull his hair out.
-Apart from that, he also hated leaving you alone like this.
-You both needed him at the moment and he wasn’t helping at all.
-Kei was suffering from her fever while you were about 7 weeks pregnant and he was out here running around like a maniac.
-In one last desperate attempt he entered another pharmacy and to his surprise they had what he was looking for and he was out the door in a flash, leaving the store without giving the clerk enough time to say a single ‘thank you, come again.’
-Sprinting home, he dashed into your apartment complex and up the stairs, fumbling for his keys as he neared your door only to find it already ajar.
-Slowing down he looked at the open entryway; he was sure he closed it on the way out.
-Why hadn’t you closed it?
-Pushing it open he came face to face with a disheveled living room, Kei’s toys scattered everywhere while one of your armchairs was knocked over.
-A small whimper suddenly pierced the air and Hitoshi would recognize his daughter’s cries from anywhere.
-A deep voice told her to shut up which was answered by your angry voice threatening to beat the living shit out of them if they touched her.
-With silent steps, Hitoshi tiptoed to your daughter’s room where he could hear the talking only to stop dead in his tracks when shuffling came from your bedroom.
-Another figure emerged from your bedroom halting once they saw Shinsou.
- “What th-”
- “Sleep.”
-Without bothering to check if the intruder passed out, Hitoshi pushed open the door, his anger radiating all around him at the very thought that someone had touched his family.
-The second person whipped around at the sound of the door opening, eyes wide as they met Hitoshi’s, fumbling to activate their quirk.
-They made the fatal mistake of speaking though and soon they were unconscious just like their friend, laying on the pastel carpet of Kei’s room.
-In one swift motion he had Kei in his arms and untied your wrists, rubbing the irritated skin and checking for injuries.
-Kei wouldn’t calm down, her grip on his shirt turned to iron once the police dragged them out of your house.
- “I wish I could beat their ass.”
- “You know you can’t use your quirk right now kitten.”
- “Yeah but they pissed me off.”
-Your doctor had forbidden quirk use during the pregnancy and that’s why those two morons had managed to catch you.
-The scowl on your face had become almost permanent and Shinsou couldn’t decide if he should find it cute or terrifying.
-Kei became attached to Hitoshi’s chest.
-Hitoshi refused to let her go just like she refused to let him go, staying in his embrace for the rest of the day, any attempt to get her away from him resulting in tears.
-You are kinda salty but some ice cream will fix that.
Bakugou Katsuki II A son (Tatsuo)
- “Okay kids, you have a nice weekend and don’t forget to finish your family portraits for Monday. Tatsuo and I would love to see them.”
-A multitude of goodbyes came through the screen as your kindergarten class, some of your students even opened their cameras to wave at you and your son who was sitting on your lap.
-Tatsuo babbled back at them, little byes leaving his lips as he too waved back at your laptop.
-Being in quarantine wasn’t that bad for a kindergarten teacher.
-Your online classes weren’t difficult to manage and you got to spend more time with your two year old son.
-The class loved seeing him and would ask if he was joining them each morning.
-Closing your laptop, you hugged your mini Katsuki as you started heating up his milk.
-You were humming, gently rocking him as you waited for the milk, giving him stray kisses here and there just to see his little nose scrunch up reminding you of Katsuki more and more everyday.
-Checking your phone for any new messages, you let out a sigh at your husband’s message saying he was coming home; that was thirty minutes ago.
-Hero work didn’t let up despite the quarantine.
-Bakugou was as busy as ever, leaving first thing in the morning and most of the time returning home late in the afternoon sometimes staying out even after midnight.
-Today though he had managed to get off earlier than usual, promising to cook for both of you tonight.
-You knew he wanted to spend more time with Tatsuo and the fact that he was gone for the majority of the day was eating him up.
-He was so worried that he was neglecting his son; he even convinced himself that Tatsuo would soon come to hate him.
-Your son on the other hand was attached to Katsuki’s hip, always searching for his dad in the morning and beaming when Katsu came home.
-He could never hate him.
-The sound of the door opening snapped you out of your little Katsuki infused dream state.
-Turning around you expected to see your husband in the living room, arms stretched out as he smiled at the two of you.
-But you were met with three strangers; three hooded strangers holding a crowbar and two bags.
-It was a staring contest for a solid five minutes before either of you moved.
-One of them noticed Tatsuo and nudged his “coworker” who then informed the leader of the trio.
- “Better not make a sound sweetheart, I’d hate hurting that pretty little face of yours.”
-He took a step forward only for you to take a step back, until your back hit the cupboard.
-He let out a chuckle and motioned for his rookies to search the place as he continued walking towards you.
-Tastuo was gripping your shirt, eyes trained on the man, his brows downcast in anger.
-Your phone lit up on the counter and in one swift move you grabbed it, pressing your emergency call button as the intruder rounded the counter.
-You sprinted for the front door just as Katsuki picked up only to be grabbed by one of the other two and dragged back inside the house, Katsuki’s yells echoing through the phone.
-Now you are aware that your husband is one of the top pro heroes.
-You know that in order to rise to the top charts in this industry you need to have certain attributes like strength, tactical thinking ….speed.
-You felt him more than saw him.
-You were wrestling to get the hands of the intruder off of you when you felt the windows rattle.
-And before you knew it, your husband had tackled the man holding you to the floor, knocking him unconscious with a single punch before pouncing on the other two.
-Tatsuo was letting out small hiccups as tears rolled down his cheeks, his grip on your shirt never wavering but he refused to sob.
-He had his father’s pride okay? Even at the age of two.
-Katsuki had you both in his arms in a flash, calling the police before checking both of you over for injuries and what not.
- “Did they hurt you? I swear I’ll kill them if they did.”
- “We are fine Katsu, just a little shaken.”
-The moment Tatsuo was in Katsuki’s arms he began to cry, burying his face in his dad’s chest still holding on to your shirt.
-It took an eternity to calm him down and even longer to put him to sleep, even though he was sleeping in your bed.
-The next morning Katsuki was on the news for marching to the police station and beating the living hell out of the burglars.

hullo there
question, question.
i got a WIP idea & i did a little world building to spark some joy - so now i have these bullet points, and i’ll likely write this, but i wanna see if anyone is interested in me doing a post... cuz it’s... levi... again...
*insert sweat emoji*
and a, uh, college AU...
anyway, more under the cut.
lemme know what you think? pwease?
Teaches Real Analysis for Graduate students
It’s a tough class to slip into; only offered in Fall and Summer & only available the first three days of Senior and Graduate registration
You’ve looked over the class schedule - asked around the campus - got your advisor on speed-dial - you’re determined to get in this Fall
Come hell or high water - you’re walking the fucking stage in December
But there’s a snag
Apparently the professor you want, the one you’ve known for the last three years, and have a great rapport with, is taking this semester off
Something about over work? Or maybe it was a time share that was about to expire?
Whatever it is - it’s a goddamn wrench in your finely tuned plans
At 7am, Monday morning, you’re at your desk, mug of coffee in one hand, fingers of your right diligently poised over the trackpad
Click, click, return, one final strike of the keyboard, and you’re in
Registered for MAT 8811 Complex Analysis & Number Theory (Fall:1) MWF 8am - 10:45am
And with professor…
Who?
One Ackerman, L.
Huh, you ponder, stiff legs stretching under the table as you cup your steaming mug to your lips. Never heard of him.
As a rule, you usually don’t bother with those professor aggregator sites
It’s all bullshit.
You should know, you were an adjunct last spring, and the reviews you got were middling at best.
Who cares if anyone thinks he’s easy
This is a graduate math class for fucks sake - nothing is easy when you’re working on a masters
But your dawdling keystrokes have another idea in mind, and before you can blink you’re clacking their name into the search function
Oh.
He’s… got some good reviews. Fair. Easy to understand, and… bite-sized? Okay
A strange adjective for a math professor but whatever… guess time will tell
August 22nd
It’s too hot for this, you think, adjusting your backpack straps as you dash up the last flight of stairs. Why can’t we start in September? It doesn’t even feel like fall when the temps are hovering in the mid 90’s (32 for my celsius babes)
Thankfully, Professor Ackerman is in one of the older classrooms - so it’s spacious, cool, and blissfully dim - what with recessed fluorescents that likely haven’t been changed since their installation in the mid 1960s
You take a seat toward the back, flicking on your laptop and arranging your materials
Not that you’ll use them today
Syllabus day is always easy - a waste of time, really. If there’s one thing that should be compiled into an email, it’s this
So you open up a few windows, poke around on a couple of websites, order some shoes, and, oh, looks like two of your favorite shops have a sale on. Maybe today won’t be so bad after all
You’re just about to toss another item into your cart when the overhead projector starts up that low pitched whine
Blinking, you look up from the brightness of your screen to the front of the lecture hall
Odd. You didn’t think… you saw the professor even come in… and… why are the light still dimmed?
Was he sitting in one of the seats?
You look around at your peers, but most are simply tugging out binders, notepads, one is clicking on a recording device, no one is acting like anything is out of the ordinary so you shift your focus back to your screen - adding an additional pair of shoes to your already overburdened cart
Treat yourself, right?
You’re so engrossed in your rapid fire clicks and the frantic recitation of your card number that you don’t see the powerpoint flicker to life
Or the sharp eyes of the man who’s taken a seat on the bottom lip of the raised platform
There’s always one, he muses, tapping his electronic clicker against the heel of his booted foot
They think they’re slick; what with all that engrained tech, the subtle narrowing of their gaze, a distracted pass here, a well timed question there - well, we’ve all gotta learn things the hard way sometimes, don’t we?
“That’s all I have for you,” a deep voice calls out, making you jump in your poorly padded seat. “Textbook is for sale at one of those kiosks the school bookstore sets up. But the link I provided on the slide should take you to a free to use PDF. Stick it to the man and all that jazz. Any questions?”
Yes, you think, slamming your laptop closed. Like when did a presentation start? And where the hell even are you?
Finally, you spot him. He’s perched on the steps, legs haphazardly crossed, elbows resting on his raised knees. There’s… an intensity to him. Maybe it’s that jet black hair, or the cold look in his sleep weary eyes, but something about this man just oozes a loud and clear, “don’t fuck with me,” vibe
And you, idiot that you are, just missed his entire… lecture? What the hell even was that? Did he just toss some slides up and call it a day?
As the class filters out he remains where he is - but when you step up beside him, he graces you with a bored stare
“Yes?”
Best course of action… be… honest?
“Hi,” you blurt, molars gripping indentations into the side of your mouth. “I… I’m in, uh, your class.”
He blinks dispassionately. “You don’t say?”
Crap. “Yeah, and, er, I didn’t… I think I missed some of your presentation. With the lights half off I didn’t… see you start it.”
“Half?” he questions, knocking a few rogue strands of onyx hair from his brow. “That’s odd. Cuz from where I’m sitting, it looked like you missed all of it. Lemme guess…” And here he pauses to give you a swift once over with his pewter eyes. “Online shopping?”
What a… a… your outrage dies in your throat when he swivels back to your widened gaze
Something about this… feels...
He waits for your reply, untangling his legs and bracing his hands behind him as he peers up at you. “Go on,” he taunts, a black brow arching sardonically. “Tell me I’m wrong.”

Pairing: Dreamnotfound (ooh thats new)
Words: 1972
TWs: miscommunication, a bit of anxiety. Let me know if there’s one I should list!

I know I don’t usually post MCYT content, but I’m hoping to change that soon! Don’t worry, Sanders Sides will probably stay my main priority for a while. (Also yes I’m still supposed to be on hiatus I know I’m a bad Christian shhhhh /j) Enjoy! EDIT! This is now available on AO3 here! for your viewing pleasure
George felt his head bounce against the school bus’ window as it bumped and sputtered its way down the road. He closed his eyes, hoping to catch up on some of the sleep that he had missed out on the night before, and now was sorely missing. This didn’t last long, however, because the bus screeched to a stop and the sounds of other teens climbing out filled his ears. George just sighed and was about to close his eyes again when he felt a pair of strong shoulders crash into his.
He pulled his head away from the window to meet his best friend’s lively green eyes. “Dream, I’m trying to relax,” he huffed, doing his best to smother the smile he felt creeping onto his face. “Do you mind?”
“Nah, I don’t mind at all,” Dream responded with a cheeky grin, making George roll his eyes. He was just about to put his earbuds in when Dream grabbed his hand, stopping the movement.
“Uh, actually,” Dream said, looking down at where his and George’s hands met, “I had something to ask you.”
“Mhm?” George just continued to scroll through his phone, seemingly not minding the contact.
Dream suddenly found himself supremely more nervous than he had been a few moments ago. He took a steadying breath and just decided to spit it out.
“There’s a new movie I wanna see coming out in theaters tonight, and I was wondering if you’d wanna come with me?”
At this George turned his attention from Twitter to focus on Dream’s face. After a momentary pause, he smiled. “That sounds like fun! I’ve got homework to do, but you could pick me up later tonight?”
Dream let out a breath he hadn’t even realized he was holding. “Yeah, totally. Around eight?”
“Perfect, it’s a date then!”
As George went back to looking at his phone, the bus came to Dream’s stop. He grabbed his backpack and gave his friend a goodbye smile, then made his way off the bus and up his driveway. When he was sure that it had turned the next corner down the street, Dream did a little jump and let out a whoop. He was so sure that George would turn him down that now that he hadn't, Dream wasn’t quite sure what to do with himself. After a moment of stimming, which mostly just meant standing in the driveway clicking his tongue and shaking his hands up and down, he had regained his composure enough to be able to enter his house without immediately being teased by his sister.
At 7:30 that evening, Dream was standing in front of his full-length mirror and evaluating the outfit he had chosen. It was nothing fancy, just a pair of jeans and a lime button-up shirt, but that was exactly the issue. Was it too formal? Or not formal enough? This was his first date with George after all, he didn’t want to disappoint.
It was in the middle of this scrutiny that his sister spoke up, leaning against the doorframe casually. “You look fine, idiot,” Drista said with a teasing grin. “You know he’s gonna like you no matter what you dress like, don’t stress about it.”
“But what if I overdress? Or underdress? What do people even wear to movie dates anyway?”
Drista shrugged. “I dunno, I’ve never been on one. Probably what you’d wear for a usual date,”
“Thank you for the help, dear sister,” Dream said sarcastically, turning his head to give her a deadpan expression. She stuck her tongue out at him, so of course he had to stick his tongue out at her.
Their teasing match was interrupted, however, by their mother calling up the stairs. “Clay, George is going to be expecting you! Shake a leg!”
“I’m going!” Dream hollered back, taking one more moment to fuss with his hair. Drista sighed and walked over, fixing it for him.
“You’ll be fine, Clay. You’ve known him for, like, ever, and just because you’re going on a date doesn’t mean that either of you are any different than you were this morning.”
Dream nodded, and Drista gave his arm an affectionate whack. “Now get out of my house, you nerd.”
“I’m still older than you!” He protested as he grabbed his keys and walked out the front door.
The drive to George’s house was a short one, and soon enough he was knocking on the front door of a small ranch-style house that served as the Found household. He took a step back from the door when he heard muffled barks and scrabbling of nails on the other side. George cracked the door open, pulling three very excited dogs away from where they were trying to push out the door and run into the front yard. He smiled a bit sheepishly at Dream, then turned his head to call over his shoulder. “Mum! I’m leaving!” After a faint response had been hollered back, he shoved his way out past the dogs and onto the front porch.
George huffed, brushing his sweater free from the dog hair that clung to it. “Sorry about that, the dogs just get excited when someone comes to the door.”
“Don’t worry about it, I’m used to your dogs by now,” Dream chuckled, bumping his shoulder against George’s. “You look nice.”
“Thanks,” George fidgeted with the hem of the blue sweater he was wearing, kneading it between his fingertips. The outfit wasn’t really anything special, but it was one of Dream’s favorites. The color made the brown of George’s eyes richer, and it looked especially good paired with the light pink blush that was currently painted across his face.
Soon enough the two of them were sitting in the plush red chairs of the theater, watching previews and waiting for the movie to start. It was a pretty small showing, there were only two other couples in the entire room, so Dream and George were free to spread out. George had his legs slung over the armrest, leaning his back against Dream’s shoulder, occasionally tipping his head back to give him an upside-down grin. In a way that confused George to no end, Dream had managed to fold his long legs underneath him so he was sitting cross-legged on the chair. He had one arm hooked over the back of the seat, not quite around George but close enough to feel the warmth coming from him.
The background chatter of the theater quieted to a hush as the lights slowly faded and the beginning of the movie started to play on the screen. George flipped around in his chair to sit normally and shuffled closer to Dream’s side in excitement, causing butterflies to erupt within the taller boy’s chest. He casually dropped his arm to rest around George’s shoulders, then settled back to watch as the main character dashed onto the screen.
The movie’s plot climax was fast approaching, and George wasn’t handling it very well. He was curled into Dream’s side as the scene around the main character exploded, and he practically shoved his face into Dream’s shoulder with an anxious squeak when the character onscreen only narrowly avoided the hunters chasing him. Dream couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle at George’s reactions, earning him a firm whack to the bicep.
“Don’t laugh at me! It’s a very intense moment!” He mumbled, though the effect of his statement was diminished slightly by the fact that he was still hiding his face in the lime green fabric of Dream’s shirt.
“Aww, don’t worry Gogy, I’ll protect you,” Dream cooed teasingly, patting his head fondly. With a quick glare towards him, George turned back to look at the screen, though he didn’t move from where he was basically plastered to Dream’s side. Maybe if he had looked closer, he would’ve seen the smitten looks that Dream couldn’t resist giving him every couple of minutes. Or maybe he would’ve caught the way that Dream stiffened momentarily when he grabbed George’s hand, caught up in the moment. Or the relief that flooded over him when George just squeezed it without a second thought.
The two of them got so caught up in the movie that it took both of them by surprise when the lights came back on and the credits started rolling. George pulled away from Dream’s hold to stand up, which made him pout for a moment, but returned to stand at his side when he had gathered his things. Together they walked out into the parking lot, where George talked animatedly about the characters of the movie while Dream watched in amusement. The drive back to George’s house was filled with much of the same, George sharing his thoughts on the plot and characters while Dream listened happily, throwing in his own opinions here and there.
Dream did his best to swallow his nerves as he walked George up to his front porch, catching his elbow when he went to open the door.
“I had a really nice time tonight, George,” He smiled at his best friend, hoping he sounded a lot calmer than he felt.
“So did I! Thanks for inviting me. We should do this again sometime,” George chirped.
“You think so?”
“Definitely!”
“In that case,” Dream said, taking a deep breath and trying to gather his courage. “Would it be alright if I kissed you goodnight?”
This seemed to take George off-guard, taking a small step back and giving him a baffled look. “What? Why?”
“It’s okay if not!” Dream rushed to backtrack, bringing one of his hands up to rub the back of his neck awkwardly. “I just figured that’s what people usually do after a date goes well.”
So many emotions flickered across George’s face in a matter of moments. Disbelief, realization, guilt, eventually landing on a mix of confusion and sadness. “Clay,” He started softly. “When you asked me to come with you tonight, did you mean it romantically?”
A look of horror and embarrassment struck Dream’s features. “Did you think I meant it platonically?”
George nodded silently, and Dream buried his face in his hands with a groan. “Oh my god, I’m so sorry! I should’ve made it more clear. Jesus Christ, I’m such an idiot.”
“Hey, hey, don’t talk about yourself like that!” George said sternly, drawing Dream’s gaze from his palms to his blushing face. “Maybe there was a communication issue, and maybe neither of us completely understood the point of tonight, but that does not make you an idiot,” his voice softened as he watched Dream’s face flush.
“You’re right, I’m sorry,” Dream mumbled, stuffing his hands in his pockets self-consciously. “I should probably get going,” he went to turn away but felt a hand reach out and grab his forearm before he could.
“Clay, I…” George hesitated, trying to find the right way to say what he wanted to say. “I did really enjoy myself tonight, and I’m sure that I would’ve acted differently if I had known how you felt about me,” He quirked his lips up into a smile. “Can we try this again? Do it right next time?”
Dream’s eyes shone with cautious excitement. “Really? You wanna go on an actual real date with me?”
George nodded, and Dream smiled excitedly. “Okay, let’s do that.”
George turned to look at his front door, then back at Dream. “I gotta go, it’s late. Text me when you get home, okay?”
Dream nodded, then reached out to gently squeeze one of George’s hands. “Yeah, absolutely. Good night, George.”
George hesitated for a split second, then rose onto his tiptoes to press a quick kiss against Dream’s cheek. “G’night, Dream,” he murmured, then disappeared inside his house, leaving Dream on the porch in stunned but ecstatic silence.

People were always shocked when they found out that Eren Jaeger was your best friend. You were polar opposites, like fire and water. You were level headed and responsible, while he was rash and had a tendency to mouth off.
You’d met when he transferred into your third grade class. His almost permanent scowl and extreme competitive spirit had kept most of the class away from him, but your stubborn empathy wouldn’t let you leave the boy friendless and alone, and you found yourself sitting down next to him at lunch a few weeks after his arrival.
After offering him a juice box as a peace offering, you managed to get him to talk to you. And the rest was history. The two of you just worked. You balanced each other out.
“Eren, how many times do I have to tell you that you cannot use a comma right there?” you huffed, dragging your hands down your face as you attempted to tutor the teal eyed boy you called your best friend.
Eren groaned, scrunching his face and leaning back against the wall behind your bed, “Not all of us can be English majors with genius writing skills.”
“I am the best.” you teased, sticking out your tongue at him. He rolled his eyes.
Suddenly, his phone pinged. Judging by the childlike smile he grew, you could tell it was his mom.
“Tell Mama Jaeger I said hi!” you said, flitting your eyes across what he’d completed on his paper so far and inserting edits he needed to make.
He rolled his eyes but continued typing, “Y’know, sometimes I think you like my mom more than you like me.”
You brought your hand to your chin faux pensively, “Well, she does give me snacks whenever I come over…”
He shoved you playfully before pushing his phone back into his pocket, “You’re evil.”
He turned his eyes back onto his laptop screen, taking in the slew of markups you’d added to it. His face soured, his expression of happiness immediately turning into one of confusion.
You laughed before shutting his laptop, “Why don’t we call it quits for today’s session, yeah? Don’t you have a party to get to? It’s a Saturday night.”
He gave you a pointed look, “You’re being judgy right now, y/n, I can feel it. Don’t be judgy.”
“I am not being judgy! You already know I don’t care about how many girls you hook up with.” you replied with a gentle shove of his arm.
He frowned but didn’t say anything further, opting to stand up from your bed and straighten out his clothes.
As he stood there before you, you couldn’t help but take in his appearance. You’d known Eren since elementary school, and it would be a lie to say he hadn’t changed. His brown locks had grown long enough to tie into a small bun, his jawline had become more defined, his previously scrawny arms had become defined with lean muscles and his ears were riddled with piercings.
Your best friend was attractive, and everyone knew it. Despite the tiny remnant of feelings for him that lingered from your childhood, you’d never truly judge him for living his life the way he wanted to. It wasn’t your place. That didn’t stop you from poking fun at him, though.
The silence of the room was comfortable as he packed his things, and after collecting all his belongings and securing them in his bag he turned to face you.
“Are you sure you don’t wanna come with?” he asked with a small smile.
You snorted, “And watch you and your little frat friends get shitfaced? I’ll pass.”
You pulled him into a brief hug, the gesture natural to the both of you, “You have fun, though. And stay safe! I mean it.”
He chuckled and gave you a two finger salute, “I promise to be on my best behavior, Captain.”
You rolled your eyes before ushering him out the door. “And don’t forget to finish your paper!” you shouted to him as he retreated down the hall. You knew him too well, and could already tell that come tomorrow morning he’d be calling you to bring him a detox and food because of his hangover.
*・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・
It was around 1 am when your cell phone rang, ripping your attention away from the random Netflix original that played on your TV. You quickly grabbed it to see Eren’s contact photo occupying the screen. Without hesitation, you slid the call button to answer.
“Hello?”
“Uh, y/n?” a voice that definitely wasn’t Eren’s replied.
“Jean?” you asked, realizing that the mysterious caller was a fellow member of Eren’s fraternity.
“You remembered! Anyway, your idiot’s way more drunk than usual. Like about to pass out drunk. Can you come get him before he pukes on someone?”
You heard a retching sound in the background, followed by a shriek.
“Too late,” you could practically hear his cringe through the speaker, “So will you come get him?”
You sighed, “I’m on my way.”
Disconnecting the call, you made quick work of replacing the pajama shorts you were wearing with leggings and shrugging on an oversized hoodie you’d stolen from Eren in high school. You slipped out of the door quietly, careful not to wake your roommate.
Despite your anger at having to leave your dorm so late at night, you couldn’t help but feel a pit of worry settle at the bottom of your stomach. He was by no means a lightweight, so him getting drunk enough to hurl meant that he went way overboard. Something he only did when he had something big bothering him. It honestly stung a bit that he hadn’t shared anything with you, despite him having been in your dorm for hours before he left for the party.
You shook the negative thoughts from your head as you approached the frat house. Before you could even knock on the door it swung open, revealing an absolutely trashed Eren being held up by a very pissed off Jean.
Jean tapped Eren’s cheek with an annoying grunt, “Oi Jaeger, your friend is here.”
You winced as he transferred his weight onto your shoulders, “Sorry about him.”
“Don’t be. He was in here whining all night about how some lady friend doesn’t like him back, feel sorry for her.”
You frowned, having been unaware that he was interested in someone. Even though you swore your feelings for him had fizzled out in the tenth grade, you couldn’t shake the heavy feeling in your chest.
You plastered on a small smile regardless, “Later, Jean. Enjoy the rest of your night.”
He returned the smile and nodded before returning to the party.
After several unsuccessful attempts at walking, you nudged Eren with a scowl, “Eren, I need you to use your legs too.”
He mumbled incoherently and let out what sounded like a whine before ultimately complying with your request.
Halfway through your trek back to the dorms, he began to speak.
“Why doesn’t she like me back?” he mumbled drunkenly into your shoulder.
Your heart rate quickened and you sped up your stride, desperate to reach his dorm.
“What?”
“I like her so much. But she just thinks of me as a friend. She doesn’t even care when I hang out with other girls.”
“Eren what are you talking about?” you asked, heart practically in your throat at this point.
He looked at you, eyes piercing, “I’m in love with her.”
You were outside his dorm by now and you weren’t sure if you wanted to dump him on his bed and run or grill him for questions while he was still in his drunken stupor.
You chose the former.
You made quick work of removing his shoes, laying him down and covering him with a blanket. As you turned to exit he caught your wrist, holding you back.
“Stay?” he asked, eyes closed and speech still a bit slurred.
You shook your head, “Absolutely not. You’re drunk.”
He frowned and shook his head, pulling your hand up to his face, “Not like that. I just want you to stay.”
You sighed, it was always hard to say no to him, “Fine, but only until you fall asleep.”
He hummed contently in response as you sat on the little empty space left on his dorm bed. As you ran your fingers through his silky brown hair you couldn’t help but think about what he’d told you. Who was he in love with? Did you know her? When did he meet her? Why did it hurt so bad?
Despite your best efforts, you found yourself dozing off, mind still swimming with unanswered questions.
Four hours later you awoke, still in Eren’s bed. You quickly shot up to leave, only to be stopped by the weight of his muscular arm pinning you in place. He had always been grabby in his sleep, and when coupled with the fact that he worked out five times a week, it was almost impossible to get out of his grip.
Luckily for you, years of being his friend had made you relatively good at escaping him, and with a little effort you carefully removed his arm from you and slid a pillow into your place.
You quickly slid your shoes back on and dashed out the door, not even breathing until you were in the hall. Your heart was pounding as you exited his building and made your way to your own. Luckily it was early, so the only people around were a spattering of students trekking back from parties.
You reached your dorm with little fanfare and quietly slid in, kicking your shoes off and sliding down the door. You massaged your temples and screwed your eyes shut, why did it bother you so much that he liked someone else. You’d long passed the point of being a lovesick puppy over him.
“Y/n, is that you?” your roommate grumbled sleepily, not moving from her spot on her bed, “It’s like, 5 am, go back to bed.”
Her ears had always been sharp, but you were still surprised the little noise you’d made had woken her up. “Sorry, Sasha.”
She simply mumbled in response before going right back to snoring.
You climbed into your bed after stripping from the hoodie and leggings you’d put on and settling back into your pajamas from earlier. Despite your efforts, you couldn’t sleep a wink, your thoughts consumed by Eren’s words.
Who was he in love with?

Title. Quarantine Tales Or alternatively; Bokuto Tries Baking and Nearly Poisons His Two Roommates/Best Friends
Pairing. Bokuto Koutarou x Platonic!Reader x Kuroo Tetsurou + Minor BokuAka and Kuroo Tetsurou x Fem!Reader
Summary. In which a pandemic hits the world and tests the ten year long friendship between three roommates. Or; Kuroo enters quarantine as a cheeky bastard, and walks out of it as a cheeky bastard with a really pretty girlfriend.
Warnings. Manga spoilers, very strong language, and lots of sexual innuendos. Also lots of platonic cuddling and skinship. It gets kind of steamy at the end but nothing too bad. This is basically just a collection of short stories that also kind of has a plot. Fair warning: excessive use of the words ‘bro,’ ‘dude,’ and ‘man.’
Once the news of the pandemic hit Japan, the three roommates were confident they’d come out as better individuals. Maybe pick up on a new hobby, drop a few pounds (or in Bokuto’s case, gain some muscles), and just have a good time, making the best out of the worst situation. They were good at that.
At first, however, the three friends each had a different response to the news. Bokuto decided to splurge and buy everything they need and then some they didn’t (he was making bank from being a pro athlete). He was convinced that the apocalypse was going to happen soon, and that they’ll need all the rations they could get before it’s too late. Kuroo decides to confiscate his Netflix account and told him to stop watching The Walking Dead.
During the first few days Y/N easily got swept up in Bokuto’s bullshit, also convinced that the apocalypse was coming. (“Kuroo, look! The cases doubled over the last few days! Tell me that doesn’t mean something!”) But she was easier to snap out of it, mostly because she’s not as childish as Bokuto. She did, however, buy all of her favorite snacks and put them in a secret stash. (Although Kuroo figured out where it was within three days).
Kuroo is the mediator between them. He’s a man of science, so “no, Bokuto, there’s no way the infected ones are turning into zombies, now stop crying!” He also took the liberty to create schedules and laid out some ground rules on when and how they should shop for groceries and things of that sort. He also made the rule that no one joins their Zoom meetings in the living room after Bokuto walked in on his screen ass naked.
All in all, they (Kuroo) were able to set up a system that ensured Bokuto doesn’t lose his mind out of boredom and Y/N doesn’t try to kill them in their sleep.
-
“If aliens take over the planet do you think I could become their overlord?”
“Doubt it. You need to have the brains for it.”
“Hey! I’m pretty smart!”
“Explain the process of osmosis.”
“Fuck you, Kuroo.”
Y/N listens in on the idiotic conversation between her two roommates, not daring to speak up in fear of losing her much needed brain cells.
“Y/N! Listen to this, Kuroo doesn’t think I’m smart enough to become an alien overlord!” Bokuto sits up from his spot on their living room floor, one elbow propped up to support his body. Y/N sighs, closing her book realizing there’s no way she’ll get the peace she needed.
“Kuroo doesn’t know what he’s talking about, Bo.” It’s only been one week since the mandated quarantine started. If Y/N gives in now, then she’ll only spiral into madness as the months go by.
“Hear that, you bastard?! Y/N-chan believes in me!” Kuroo looks unamused. There’s a shit eating grin on his face that Y/N wants to wipe off. Or punch off. Whichever happens first.
“Y’know what they say, owls of a feather stick together.” Kuroo’s probably referring to the fact that both Y/N and Bokuto attended Fukurodani. Either way, he’s insulting her. Y/N is seething.
“Shut up you cocky cat!” Y/N screeches, flinging her book to his relaxed figure on the floor. Kuroo lets out a groan as the hardcover book makes contact with his groin. “Shit, there goes my future generations.”
Bokuto emphasizes with his bro, placing a protective hand over his ‘lil man.’
-
During the third week of quarantine, Kuroo comes down with a cold. Or maybe he got the virus. That’s what Bokuto and Y/N are currently trying to figure out.
“Kuroo, man, I searched up your symptoms here and it says you have network connectivity problems. What does that mean?” Bokuto grumbles, aggressively tapping the laptop screen. Y/N scowls at the way he’s manhandling her laptop before snatching it away from his hold.
“That’s not what that means, dumbass.” Bokuto pouts. “It means someone fucking forgot to pay for the wifi for this month.”
Y/N is glaring at her bedridden roommate through her face mask, but the rooster head throws his hands up out of innocence. “Sorry, I was too busy trying not to die!”
“So what now?” Bokuto asks, trying to cut through the tension between his two roommates. Y/N sighs in response, shutting off her laptop. “Now we just have to wait for him to sleep it off. If he has the virus then we burn his room with him in it.”
“Hey!” Kuroo tries to object. Instead what comes out is a garbled noise followed by excessive coughing and Bokuto screeching something about the ‘zombie virus infecting his home,’ and then he bolted out of Kuroo’s room.
“Whatever,” Y/N sighs, knowing Bokuto would have been useless in this situation anyways, “just try to rest. I’ll come in to check on you every now and then to bring you food. You better eat it!”
“Aw, Y/N-chan, you really care about me, huh?” Kuroo fake gushes, pressing one hand on his chest and another on his forehead. “It’s sweet how you try to act all tough.”
“Bo! Go find the lighter!”
-
Six weeks into the quarantine, Kuroo is over his ‘virus scare’ and now it’s Bokuto who’s sick. Correction, lovesick. It’s starting to test Y/N’s thinning patience.
“Do you think ‘Kaashi would get annoyed if I call him again?”
“Bo, you’ve been facetiming him every single day since this quarantine started. What changed?”
“He hasn’t been messaging me back the last three days! Do you think he got tired of me? Do you think he realized I’ve been in love with him and now he hates me? Do you think he hates my owl memes? Damn, I should’ve just told him before this whole thing started.” Y/N snorts. Clearly. One less headache for her. Even the sight of Kuroo breathing is starting to irk her. One time she nearly slapped him across the head for sleeping on the couch. Quarantine is doing something to her.
“Y/N? Why aren’t you answering? Oh my god, you hate me too, don’t you?” Crap. She was too absorbed in her hatred towards Kuroo’s existence that she forgot this big baby was lying down on her lap crying about something. What was it again? Akaashi hates him? Impossible.
“Impossible.” Y/N doesn’t realize she is running her hand through his two-toned hair. Bokuto hums in content. Y/N is suddenly reminded of her dog from back home. She wonders how he’s doing.
“Keiji’s like, in love with you. If anything he’s probably just drowning in work. You know how busy he gets.” Even Y/N’s not buying it. Busy or not, three days of radio silence from Akaashi has to mean something. She just doesn’t want to deal with an emo Bokuto. She decides to pass the responsibility to Kuroo.
“Bo, I bet Kuroo has some pretty good advice for ya. Remember when he had that crush on Akari-chan for all of highschool?” Bokuto shoots up with a new look of determination. He yells out a ‘you’re the best, Y/N-chan!’ over his shoulders before dashing straight to Kuroo’s room.
Y/N smiles in triumph as she receives a plethora of messages from one very angry Kuroo Tetsurou, ranging from ‘Why would you do this to me?’ to ‘I fucking hate you.’ Serves him right for finishing the ice cream.
(Later they find out that Akaashi simply broke his phone and had to wait three days to get it fixed. Bokuto was over the moon).
-
Sometimes Y/N wears their highschool jerseys because she thinks they’re comfortable. Some days she wears Bokuto’s. Other days she wears Kuroo’s. Today she’s wearing Bokuto’s, and Kuroo doesn’t know why it’s pissing him off.
“Oh man! That thing looks like a dress on you!” Bokuto squeals like one of his fangirls. He dashes to where she is, minding her business making toast in the kitchen, and picks her up from under her arms a la Lion King style.
“Bo! Put me down, you dumbass!” She wiggles in his hold, legs thrashing around. It’s all meaningless though. Bokuto is a pro athlete and is 190cm. Any attempts to free herself remains futile against this giant man-baby.
“Kuroo, look! So cute!” Bokuto gushes, showing her off like a baby. He lightly loosens his hold on one arm and extends his hand to bring a finger up to her cheeks. Y/N is emitting a strange aura. Kuroo suspects she’ll start tearing his ass into pieces within ten seconds.
Correction, three seconds. Because somehow she figures out how to kick behind her and shove an ankle deep into Bokuto’s groin. Now Bokuto is wriggling around on the living room floor as Y/N returns to her toast.
Kuroo finds this amusing, yet there’s a foreign feeling deep inside his chest. Is he getting sick again? He’s gonna need to check on that later.
-
“Ou! What ‘ya watching?”
“Your Name.”
“Huh? Bokuto Koutarou. Did you forget?”
“Dude...” Y/N stares at him in disbelief. Bokuto doesn’t notice but that’s because he’s Bokuto, and just about everything flies over his head. Instead he plops down on the couch next to her and hogs all the blanket.
“Get the fuck out! Get your own blanket!” Bokuto doesn’t reply, but he hums and opens his arms as an invitation. Ah, another platonic cuddling, as Bokuto puts it. Y/N is touch starved and she can’t deny it, so she slides closer to his lean figure and lets her head fall on his chest.
Eventually they settle in, huddling impossibly close to each other as the movie reach its tear-jerking climax. They don’t notice Kuroo walk in with a scowl on his face.
“Oh hey, bro. Wanna watch?” Bokuto notices him first, lifting his head up from the crown of Y/N’s head. Y/N finally looks over Bokuto’s chest and spots Kuroo moving around in the kitchen.
“I’m good.” Is his short answer before he trudges to his room with a loud bang! from his door. Y/N flinches a little, but pays no mind to it. Instead she directs her focus back to the movie, where another sad scene is unfolding.
The movie reaches its ending, but not before Bokuto could ask, “So, what’s the actual title of the movie?”
-
One peaceful afternoon Bokuto decides to take in a stray cat. Except...
“Bokuto, you fucking idiot that’s a racoon!” Y/N screeches as she climbs Kuroo’s back. The rooster head screams as he backs away from Bokuto and ‘Mr. Fluffles.’ Bokuto stares at his frightened roommates and the ‘cat’ in his hand and then back at his roommates again.
Realization strikes, and now Bokuto is screeching with the other two, holding the raccoon as far away from his body as possible.
“If you fucking drop it, I’ll kill you!” Kuroo threatens, holding onto Y/N’s arm that’s starting to dig into his throat. “Take it outside!”
“But it’s raining!”
“Bokuto!”
“It’s you or him, man!”
The two continue their little back-and-forth, not noticing the raccoon had escaped Bokuto’s grasp. But Y/N notices. And it’s heading into her room. And now she’s seeing God.
“Bokuto, gah-!” Kuroo is rudely interrupted by Y/N’s tight hold on his throat getting tighter. Before he could give her hell for attempted murder, he notices the look of horror on her face. “What’s wrong?”
“Your fucking raccoon went in my bedroom!”
“Ah shit!” Both Kuroo and Bokuto scramble, the former forgetting all about the human person hanging onto his back. Said person is too scared of letting her foot touch the floor, afraid that it might be met by the furry abomination Bokuto brought home. So she kinda just...lets Kuroo run off into her room with her dangling off his neck.
“Where’d he go?!” Bokuto panics, not seeing Mr. Fluffles anywhere in his immediate vicinity. He starts flinging stuff off the ground and her table and her bed, making a huge mess in the span of ten seconds. Y/N takes one foot off of Kuroo’s waist and kicks him square in the back.
“Quit trashing my room!” She scolds like a mom. Bokuto pouts but continues looking, until they hear the quiet pitter patter of claws hitting the wooden floor. “Wait shut up!”
Y/N huffs but still complies, wanting nothing more than Mr. Fluffles gone from her room. Kuroo takes the liberty to start questioning Bokuto’s stupidity.
“How could you have possibly thought that thing was a fucking cat?!”
“In my defense, it was pretty dark outside.” Bokuto grumbles in his low and whiny voice, before firing back, “And stop calling him a ‘thing!’ Mr. Fluffles has feelings too!”
“Bokuto we’re not keeping it!” This time it’s Y/N yelling at him with fire in her eyes. The poor guy looks like he’s about to cry, but Y/N is far too gone over the thought of a raccoon making its home in her bedroom.
Bokuto lets out an ‘aha!’ as he emerges from under her bed with Mr. Fluffles. Y/N visibly relaxes knowing that the raccoon is safely contained. Until she remembers what was stashed under her bed.
“Ah, there’s something in his mouth.” Bokuto announces, holding Mr. Fluffles disgustingly close to his face. Her secret stash of snacks. The bastard got into it.
“Bokuto!!!”
(They later find out that at least four neighbors filed a noise complaint against them).
-
It’s two months in to the quarantine when Bokuto discovers TikTok. Within one week he’s dropped his towel in front of Kuroo, sat on Kuroo’s lap during his work Zoom meeting, smacked his gym bag across Kuroo’s face, and then some. Y/N finds humor in this, of course at Kuroo’s expense, but that’s even better.
Speaking of Kuroo and Y/N. Lately there’s been undeniable tension between his two roommates, and Bokuto doesn’t know how to resolve it. Everytime he tries to get them to talk they end up arguing.
He’s asked Akaashi for advice, but Akaashi simply told him to let them resolve it amongst themselves. Bokuto does not have the patience for that. He’s scared their meaningless arguments might rip a tear into their ten year long friendship.
So Bokuto does what he thinks is best, bake them cookies! No one could possibly be in a bad mood while eating freshly baked cookies, even Bokuto is drooling at the thought. So with a new resolve, Bokuto scrolls through his new favorite app (TikTok) to find some good recipes. Because TikTok has all the answers.
Except when he bakes the cookies he later finds out he used two cups of salt instead of sugar. He doesn’t know how that happened, but it could be because he grabbed the first white substance he saw and dumped it in the bowl.
Kuroo and Y/N somehow found a way to blame each other. Bokuto is reaching his limits.
-
Bokuto calls for an emergency meeting. He needs help deciding whether or not he should drop 40,000¥ on the Animal Crossing Limited Edition Switch that comes with Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
Y/N says go for it because she’s secretly plotting on stealing it the moment he gets tired of the game (which knowing Bokuto, would be fairly quick). Kuroo objects because Bokuto blew 50,000¥ last month buying shit he didn’t need for the quarantine.
And now there’s a fullblown argument between the two. Bokuto is reminded of his parents, except their fights never got this hostile and he’s pretty sure his mom never called his dad a “rooster-hair bastard!” He’s too scared to cut in. He thinks they might cut off his head. So he decides to sneakily crawl back into his room.
He ends up ordering the switch anyways, and when it arrives a week later Kuroo calls Y/N a bad influence. They argue again.
Bokuto has an epiphany.
-
Two days after Bokuto’s epiphany, they take a trip to the supermarket. Bokuto wants to drive but he can’t because his license got revoked after he ran through five consecutive red lights. Kuroo tells him this but he gets pouty so Kuroo had to buy him ice cream on the way there to get him to shut up.
So now Bokuto is slobbering up Kuroo’s car, much to the latter’s distaste. It isn’t until Kuroo brake checks him and Bokuto slams the ice cream on his face, does Kuroo show a look of content. Bokuto pays no mind, and decides to bring up his recent epiphany.
“So, bro, when are ya gonna tell Y/N you’re in love with her?” Kuroo slams his foot on the brakes again, this time out of shock. “I - uh - what - what did you just say?”
“Oh man,” Bokuto lets out a boisterous laugh while licking the ice cream that dripped down his shirt (gross), “you didn’t know?!”
“You two have had this sexual tension between you brewing for weeks! It’s like - I could actually cut through it with a knife, like a piece of pie or something!”
“I hate everything you just said.”
“Whatever man, just let me know if you want me gone for the night. I’ll even come up with a good excuse.” He winks, and Kuroo resists the urge to crash the car into a tree.
-
Bokuto’s words affect Kuroo a lot more than he would like to admit. Ever since that fateful trip to the supermarket with his owl-eyed friend, Kuroo’s been too wary of his other roommates existence. He wants to prove Bokuto wrong. He, Kuroo Tetsurou, is not in love with L/N Y/N, his best friend since his first year of highschool.
L/N Y/N is one of the guys! That’s like saying he likes Bokuto (Kuroo bites back his disgust). And Kuroo doesn’t like Bokuto, thank you very much.
Except L/N Y/N is not Bokuto.
L/N Y/N is his endless highschool memories that he always goes back to on a bad day. She is going to the beach during the summer and playing in the ocean until they tire themselves out. She’s like a warm hug that welcomes him after a long and tiring say. She’s like the rock that was flung at his ex’s window after she cheated on him with some other guy. She’s like the fun he’s had during the summer away games, where he got to play volleyball with his friends for one week straight. She’s like taking the long way home just so he could walk back with her. L/N Y/N is his best friend.
No, Y/N is not all those things. She is, however, the person he’s shared those memories with. The person Kuroo could say one hundred percent, without a doubt, knows him best (aside from Bokuto and maybe his mom). She’s the person that’s always been there through thick or thin, for ten years and counting.
Oh god. Kuroo Tetsurou is in love with L/N Y/N.
-
Bokuto has a plan in mind. A plan to help his two best friends hook up (and maybe date afterwards). Bokuto tells Akaashi his plans but Akaashi tells him all his plans are moronic, so he goes to his teammates Hinata and Atsumu, who says he’s a genius.
(The plan is simple: make Kuroo jealous. That bastard is as possessive as a dog over his food).
Which is how he finds himself seated at the kitchen table, phone in hand with a disgusted Y/N right across from him.
“No, you’re not giving my number to Miya Atsumu. That guy has shifty eyes!”
“Come on, you’ll learn how to love it! ‘Sides, Tsumu-tsumu is a nice guy! Did’ya really think I’d set my bestest friend in the world up with some sketchy guy?” If Bokuto’s normal talking voice is at a hundred, he’s talking at a hundred twenty now, just to make sure Kuroo can hear him from his room.
Y/N presses her palms to her ears, not really questioning why he’s talking so damn loud. Instead she blackmails him. “Bokuto if you don’t stop I’ll send Keiji all your embarrassing pictures from our first year.”
“You wouldn’t!”
But the look in her eyes says she would. And the ping! sound that came from her phone says that she just did. “Y/N!” Bokuto cries out, scrambling incredibly fast to his room where he left his phone plugged in, hoping he could stop Akaashi from witnessing the embarrassment that is Bokuto Koutarou as a fifteen year old.
Moments after Bokuto bolted to his room and is screaming out, “‘Kaashi! Block Y/N-chan right now! Don’t open her texts!” Kuroo steps out of his bedroom, having been shamelessly eavesdropping on their previous conversation.
“So,” He leans over the kitchen counter (he thinks he looks like hot shit but Y/N begs to differ), “Miya Atsumu, huh?” Her face contorts into something out of digust or discomfort, he can’t tell which one. Is it bad for him to say he likes that reaction? Probably.
“Don’t.” Is her short response, bringing up a hand in front of her body. “If Bokuto thinks I’m desperate enough to go for one of his teammates, then I’ve got a surprise for him. No offense to Shouyou.”
“So what I’m hearing is...it’s not the aspect of being in a relationship you’re totally against, but the guy himself?” Kuroo thinks out loud. Y/N throws him one of her infamous ‘what-the-fuck-are-you-talking-about’ looks, but he feigns ignorance to it.
“I mean, yeah? I haven’t had a good fuck since-” Kuroo decides to cut her off there, not really eager to learn the name of the man she’s...well, you get it! (Bokuto was right, this man truly is possessive).
“Anyways, good choice. I heard the other twin is where it’s at.” Kuroo ends the conversation there, with new knowledge about his new found crush and confidence over the fact that he still has a chance.
-
A week goes by just like that. Bokuto makes it painfully obvious he’s trying to make Kuroo jealous. Except painfully obvious is not obvious enough for his slightly-frustrating friend, Y/N.
At one point, when obviously Atsumu didn’t serve much of a threat to Kuroo (curse that idiot for being too easy to mock), Bokuto took matters into his own hands and tried flirting with Y/N himself. And while Bokuto is a lot of things, being smooth isn’t one of them. There’s a reason why he hasn’t made whatever he has with Akaashi official yet, he’s terrible at relationships and anything related to it.
(Though Kuroo had a riot witnessing Bokuto’s failed attempts at heterosexual flirting:
“So, you come here often?”
“Bo, I fucking live here.”).
And as much as Bokuto wants to just go out with it and announce to Y/N (and the world) that his totally radical bro, Kuroo Tetsurou, is in love with her, he has just about enough self control and conscience to know that doing that could only result in his immediate death at the hands of a very angry rooster-head. So he’s just been beating around the bush. For a week he’s tried to drop subtle hints that were, sadly, left dropped by Y/N. She’s almost as helpess as Bokuto. Almost.
But when an opportunity like this falls on his lap, Bokuto just knows he has to take it.
It’s at one of their annual roommate-bonding, a tradition they’ve held since moving in together during college. This time Kuroo is unable to join due to some hold-up at work. He’s in his room furiously typing away at his computer.
“So...” He makes sure to drag out the last vowel to gain her interest. Though it’s pretty useless since Y/N is as easy to fool as Bokuto himself. They’re best friends for a reason. A very bad reason, one might say.
“So what?” She asks, shoving about ten pieces of popcorn in her mouth all at once. Bokuto realizes he is tired of beating around the bush. He decides to set the metaphorical bush on fire. “Admit it, Y/N. You like Kuroo, don’t ‘ya? You wanna screw him or something?”
“Shh!” Suddenly Y/N is more invested in whatever Bokuto has to say than the shitty movie he picked out. And now she’s launched herself off her side of the couch onto his, pressing a greasy, buttery palm to his lips.
Bokuto easily swipes her hand away with a shit eating grin on his face. “So I was right! Which one is it? ‘Ya like him? Or you wanna screw him?”
“Bokuto!” She warns. Her eyes dart to Kuroo’s closed bedroom door, suddenly too aware of just now thin these walls actually are. It also didn’t help that Bokuto’s normal speaking voice is about as loud as a race car engine.
She realizes there’s no point in hiding it, since he’s looking at her with those creepy owl eyes, just daring her not to spill everything. “How’d you even find out?” She sighs in defeat.
“Come on! You’ve been so irritated lately that there was only two possible explanations: ya either love the guy or hate his guts. I don’t think you’d be friends with him for ten years if you hated him so much.” Y/N blinks in surprise. That’s surprisingly perceptive, coming from Bokuto. She tells him this.
“Hey! I’m capable of using my head too!” He doesn’t like how she’s giving him that judgement look. Clearing his throat, Bokuto decides to skip past that.
“So? Since when did ‘ya like the lucky bastard?” Bokuto expects one month, maybe two at best. What he didn’t expect was this: “Probably since highschool.”
“Wha-?!” His outburst is contained by a smaller body flying on top of his, as well as two palms pressed tightly over his mouth. Eyes wide, he looks down to see a flustered Y/N, pink cheeks and all, looking menacingly at Kuroo’s door, trying to see if he heard any of that.
Once she confirms she’s in the clear, she lets out the breath she’s been holding and smacks Bokuto across his biceps.
“Idiot! Don’t just scream like that!” She huffs, arms crossed at her chest. “I told you ‘cus I trust you, Bo. Don’t do anything stupid with that trust.” The man simply nods, still too shocked to form coherent words.
Once he does however, Y/N is hit with an onslaught of whispered questions. “Since when? How come I didn’t notice? How come anyone didn’t notice? Why-” He pauses, realizing his questions aren’t being answered. So he waits as she brings her legs up to her chest with an unreadable expression.
“I mean it was pretty easy to hide it. We went to different schools, and whenever we hung out you were always there,” Y/N starts, but quickly adds, “I mean, not like I didn’t want you there! It’s just - it was easier to forget I even liked him whenever the three of us were together.” Her voice is barely above a whisper, probably still wary of the fact that Kuroo was only one room over. Bokuto notices this and turns up the volume of the TV, earning a small smile from his nervous wreck of a friend.
“At one point I was actually gonna tell him, but then he started dating Akari-chan.” Bokuto scowls at the name. Akari, the girl that Kuroo crushed on for a full year, but also the girl that ended up cheating on him with some guy in her painting club. “I wasn’t really the type to cry over a small crush, I had other things to do. Actually I was kind of relieved. Kuroo being taken meant I didn’t have to act on these weird feelings I started having.”
“And next thing I knew we were off to college. I started dating other people, and my feelings for him started shrinking. Even when we decided to move in together, we were all so busy with our separate lives, so I wasn’t really worried about it...until, y’know, we kinda got stuck here together. I guess seeing him 24/7 just caused my head to malfunction. I thought fighting with him would stop these weird...feelings, from coming back. But I guess that backfired on me since you ended up finding out. Wait - Bokuto are you crying?”
The said man tucks his head in his arms, mumbling out “No,” even though it was pretty obvious. Y/N softly smiles, finding his reaction kind of cute. It was nice to know he cares that much, no matter how infuriating he could get.
“I didn’t even know you went through that much, Y/N-chan. C’mere! Lemme give you a hug!”
“Bokuto, no! I don’t need-” The rest of her complaints are drowned out by a sturdy chest meeting her face. Great. Bokuto’s way too emotional now.
“I’m sorry, I promise I’ll help you tell him!”
“Wait what? I don’t want that!” Y/N tries to argue, but her voice is muffled due to being stuffed into his chest. Suddenly remembering that Bokuto has a tendency to be a loud mouth and could never keep a secret from Kuroo, Y/N shoots up, pressing her palms to his chest to release herself from his hold.
“Bo, you have to promise me you won’t tell him anything.”
“But -”
“Bokuto!” He slightly recoils from the sternness of her voice, before he bows his head and nods. Y/N relaxes a bit, settling back into her previous position and fixed her focus back to the movie playing on the TV as if their previous conversation never happened.
Unbeknownst to her, Bokuto is already putting the pieces together for his master plan.
-
Y/N comes to regret telling Bokuto her ‘dirty’ little secret exactly one week later, at their next roommate-bonding. This time Kuroo is there, with Bokuto right in between them on the couch. There’s another shitty movie playing in the background (curtesy of Bokuto’s horrible choice in films), but Y/N can’t bring herself to pay attention.
She does however, snap out of her little daydream when Bokuto shoots up, phone in hand and reaching for the door. Oh no. Both Kuroo and Y/N think to themselves.
“Ah! What’s this?! There’s an emergency at ‘Kaashi’s apartment?! Guys, I’ll be right back!” Bokuto is out the door before either of them could object. Y/N knows Akaashi. Akaashi is a safe guy. He’s not the type to call out of nowhere because of an emergency, and even if he did, Bokuto surely would not be the first contact in mind. Which means, Bokuto, that sneaky bastard, planned this with the single brain cell he had left.
Silence fills the air for the next five minutes, until Kuroo’s phone sounds off. It’s a text from Bokuto, reading: When I come back you two better be-
Kuroo decides to turn off his phone there, fearing the contents of the very explicit paragraph Bokuto sent following those words. Instead he turns his head to his friend next to him - or rather on the opposite side of the couch, avoiding him like he’s the plague.
He doesn’t like this awkwardness at all. Conversation between them used to always just flow, even if most of them end up becoming a heated debate over the most trivial things. Kuroo decides to man up. It’s now or never.
“Okay so -” “Hey -” The two pause, finally making eye contact for the first time in past week. All of Kuroo’s brain cells fly out his brain and out the window, leaving him to fend off for himself in this awkward situation. His head is like that one Spongebob meme. Oh god, he’s turning into Bokuto-
“So,” Y/N’s voice snaps him out of his train of thoughts, or rather his lack of it. This is pathetic. He’s a grown man and he’s acting like a highschooler over a pathetic crush. Except this isn’t a pathetic crush. This is Y/N - his best friend for the past ten years, who he’s just now realized is a lot prettier than he initially thought.
“I’m in love with you.” Yes, yes he is. Wait, that wasn’t his voice. And that definitely wasn’t his subconscious trying to patch up what’s left of his decimated ego, which means -
“Kuroo?” Jesus fuck, when did she even slide over this close? “You don’t have to answer or anything, I just thought I should tell you first before Bokuto breaks. I understand if you don’t feel the same way-”
“No!” She flinches at how loud his voice is. “I mean, fuck - wait. You gotta let me process this real quick.” Kuroo is suddenly aware he’s redder than his Nekoma jersey, and her face is super close to his, and her lips look totally kissable right now.
“I’m in love with you, too.” Kuroo finally speaks up. He notices how she goes stiff, and how quickly her face turns into a bright shade of red.
“You don’t have to say it just ‘cus you feel bad! This doesn’t have to change anything between us! I mean, I’ve kept it a secret for ten years, I can do ten more-”
“Y/N.” She finally stops her rambling, meeting his eyes. And she doesn’t know why, but suddenly she just knows he’s being sincere. She could probably die right now and she’d say she lived a happy life.
“I’m gonna kiss you now.” Kuroo waits for her confirmation, in this case a shy nod, before cupping her cheeks with his large and warm hands. He inches over slowly at first, but lets his lips eagerly meet hers with a smile. He feels her hands wrap around his waist, letting him deepen the kiss.
It starts of slow and steady, everything Y/N could have ever dreamed of, until needy hands start roaming her body. She has to crane her neck to meet his lips, and Kuroo probably sensed her discomfort because now he’s gripping her waist tightly, lifting her up gently and placing her down on his lap.
The new and more comfortable position allows Kuroo to deepen the kiss, and Y/N finds her hands grabbing the hair she’s been insulting so much for the past two months. Kuroo sighs into the kiss, with Y/N smiling a bit at the situation. As things escalate, a loud gasp breaks them out of their trance.
“Oh. My. God!” Bokuto is squealing like an idiot and Akaashi is behind him unamused. “Finally.” Is his short statement.
“What the fuck Bokuto!” Kuroo growls. Y/N, suddenly a bit too self conscious climbs off the spot she made for herself on Kuroo’s lap. Though her embarrassment doesn’t last long, before she joins Kuroo in glaring at Bokuto.
“I just came back ‘cus I forgot my wallet, but oh man! You guys are adorable!” Akaashi is still behind him, but this time he looks more apologetic. “Bokuto-san, maybe we should leave.”
“Nah, I kinda wanna stay.”
“Bokuto!”
“Get the fuck out!” Bokuto only laughs as he catches both the pillow and the remote control thrown at him. He drops both items back down on the living room floor and snatches his wallet from the counter before calling over his shoulders,
“Yeah, yeah. Just make sure ya make me the best man and the maid of honor!”
A/N. Reupload! This fic was totally self-indulgent bc I am so bored of quarantine and am currently wishing I had a Bokuto and Kuroo to keep me entertained. Anyways, I hope you guys enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! And as always, thank you for reading! Leave a like if you...liked it? Is that how it goes? - chuu

could we get a part 4 to that best friend Ethan thing?🥰
Sorry it took so long :(
TRIGGER WARNING!!!
(sexual harassment, violence, alcohol intoxication and death)
Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4:
You were now 4 drinks down and to say that you were absolutely fucked was an understatement. Your vision had become blurry and you were struggling to walk like a normal person without embarrassing yourself by walking into strangers.
Grayson was right. You can’t handle your drinks.
Every now and then you flash a cheeky smile at the odd guy that walks by you, earning yourself an eye roll from both Yael and Sam. You're such a flirt when you're drunk and you never have a problem showing it.
”You're such a lightweight, y/n!” Yael shouts over the loud thumping music as you both dance side by side, swaying your hips along with the music.
You— being the most drunk you've ever been— miss hear her completely. ”who the fuck are you calling shark bait?!”
Yael snorts out a laugh, amused with the state that you were in. “I said LIGHTWEIGHT! Fucking idiot!”
Sam casually dances his way over to the two of you, in the middle of the dance floor, with a drink in each hand.
”Who’s a lightweight?!” he questions, handing Yael one of the alcoholic beverages.
”Look! Sammy whammy is here! Welcome brother shark bait!” you point out as you dramatically throw an arm around his shoulder, causing the two of you to stumble back into a group of wasted girls that were dancing behind you.
”Oop! My bad!” you giggle, stepping away from the collision you just caused. You spin around to see that all 3 girls had liquid spilt down their attire and expressed a face to say ’are you kidding me?’— but you didn't give a single fuck.
Without a second to think, you stick both middle fingers up in the air and grin tormentingly before mouthing a ’fuck you’. Much to your amusement, this riles them up.
”Ignore her! She doesn't mean it! She's just drunk!” Sam clarifies, holding his hands up in defence as the girls start to throw abuse at the two of you.
”He’s lying!” you protest. ”I think you all look like clowns right now with all that fucking makeup on your dumbass fac—”
Pulling you away from the situation, before it gets out of hand, Sam raises a brow at you. ”Stop trying to rile up strangers! And Shark bait?”
“SHARK BAIT, OOH HA HA!”
Wow. You were even starting to annoy yourself with the childish shit you were coming out with.
”enough with the shark bait!” Yael demands, playfully clamping a hand over your mouth.
”get ya nasty hands off me!” slapping her hands away, you grimace. ”Could’a been touching sam’s dick for all I know!”
”don't be so silly!” yeal leans closer to your ear, holding your shoulder to steady your balance somewhat. ”I've washed my hands since then.” she winks.
”FILTH! ABSOLUTE FILTH!” you screech, wiping your mouth with the back of your hand, sending Yael into fits of laughter.
”I’m joking!” she claims, taking a sip of her drink. ”although—” yael eyes Sam from head to toe, almost drooling at the sight of him. ”Sam is looking pretty hot tonight. Look at that fine piece of—”
”RIGHT!” you turn on your heel, beginning to walk away ”I need another drink.”
”Be safe! We’ll be right here if you need us!” she calls, waving a hand in the air as to say ’bye’.
No, they won't. Give it 5 minutes and Yael will be getting it in the toilets.
You were at the bar, ordering another 2 rounds of shots for the three of you, when a guy comes and sits himself down beside you.
”having a fun night?” he attempts to spark up a conversation.
”uh— yeah? Yes! Very fun!”
”That sounds like sarcasm, babe.”
Ew. Don't ’babe’ me.
You force a smile before taking your phone out from your clutch.
No messages.
Deep down, you were hoping to find a message from Ethan. But instead you received a notification-free screen. You found yourself staring at a picture, of you and E, that you had set as your lock screen. It was taken at the beach a few months back when you first properly hung out with everyone. Ethan was very attached to you that day and wherever you were, he was sure not to be too far away. You found it sweet.
In the photo, Ethan was standing behind you, both arms wrapped around your torso and his chin resting on your shoulder with a huge beaming smile spread across his face. It's your favorite photo to date and you've had it set as your lock screen from the very moment it was taken because E claimed it was ’kinda cute’.
The stranger next to you must have noticed your facial expression alter slightly because he's soon leaning over to get your attention. You slide your phone back into your clutch and close it after double-checking your actions.
”you seem like you're having a shitty time.”
”I am not! I'm having a fucking wicked time, if you must know! See that girl over there?” you turn to look for Yael, but she's nowhere in sight. Neither is Sam.
They're fucking in the bathroom, I bet!
”who?” the guy looks around the room in confusion.
Panicking, you point to a random girl. That random girl just so happens to be the wildest girl out on the dance floor as she was grinding against anyone who walked by her with her hair an absolute mess and red lipstick smudged all over her face. She looks like she knows how to have a fun time, that's for sure.
”That's your friend?” he asks, voice full of doubt. ”Seems like a massive whore to me.”
Was this guy looking to get his ass beaten? Because you'll square up right now!
”fuck you, asshole! That's my best friend! Don't talk about her like that!” You snap. You have no idea why you felt the need to defend this girl so bad but you weren't going to sit back and let this nincompoop hate on her like that.
”what the fuck are you gonna do about it?” the man laughs, taking a sip of his drink.
Smack his drink out of his hand.
You scowl at the man, shaking the thought out of your head before the bartender walks over with the shots you had ordered. You thank them with a small smile before picking the drinks tray up to take it over to an empty table in the corner of the room, furthest away from the bar.
After concentrating on your steps, and guarding the drinks like your life depended on it, you reach the booth you had your eyes on.
Wasting no time at all, you place the tray atop the table and swallow a shot straight down, grimacing at the burning feeling in the back of your throat.
Just when you think you're alone with your own thoughts, you feel a tap on your shoulder, prompting you to turn around. When you do, your heart plummets into your stomach.
It was the nincompoop from the bar and he didn't look happy at all.
”You know, it's rude to walk away from someone when they're talking to you.” his eyes were all over you, scanning your body from head to toe. You cringe, internally.
Still fairly drunk, you mimic his words in a mocking tone. ”It's rude to walk away when someones talking to you— GUESS WHAT?! I. DON'T—”
Taking you by surprise, he grabs your face with one hand and pulls you closer to him by harshly yanking on your arm.
”Watch your fucking mouth, slut.” he grumbles next to your ear, making your blood run cold with fear.
You'd think that someone would notice what's going on and intervene but this is a club, after all. Everyone was too drunk to notice their surroundings, let alone care about a couple of people in the corner of the club.
You always knew your drunken mouth would get you in trouble one day.
Out of instinct and panic, you kick him as hard as you can in the shin and shove him back. He howls in pain, hopping on one leg, as you make a quick dash for the nearest exit.
This is when wearing heels really fucks you.
You didn't dare look behind you because you knew if you did, that asshole would be right on your tail.
Forcefully shoving an exit door open, you become aware of your surroundings. You’re currently standing in the designated area for smokers. But no one was in sight.
To your left: dead end. No brainer.
To your right: 6-foot wire fence. There's no way you’d be able to climb that thing in sweatpants, let alone a fucking dress.
Unfortunately for you, just when you were about to figure out your next escape route, the guy kicks the door open to reveal an evil smirk on his pale face.
Yeah, maybe running through a side door wasn't the best idea.
There was only one exit and douchebag here was standing right in the way of it.
”You really thought you could run away from me?” he scoffs, ambling closer. With every step he took, the more fearful you got. What were this man's intentions?
”fuck you!” you spit (quite literally) into his face, making him flinch over-so-slightly.
He chuckles darkly and wipes his face clean before clamping a hand over your mouth and traps you between himself and the brick wall behind you.
The foul stench his body emitted was gut-wrenching. It was a foisty smell, alongside alcohol and sweat and it was not a good combo, at all. Never have you smelt anything so horrendous in your life. This guy has clearly never heard of a shower before.
”Wanna say that again?” he growls, breathing his disgusting breath in your face, only inches away.
You squirmed in his tight grip, trying desperately to escape but it was no use. He was too strong compared to your intoxicated self.
You begin tugging on the hand that was wrapped around your mouth, managing to break free for long enough to bite down onto it.
Crying out profanities, the man shakes his hand followed by bringing it back up towards your face. Instead of covering your mouth though, he tightly wraps his hand around your throat and squeezes your windpipe. You gasp for air as you begin grabbing at his hand once again but the pain you inflicted on the man in front of you caused a rush of adrenaline to power through his body, making him stronger than he was before.
”You looking to get hurt, huh?” he grumbles angrily, pulling an object out from his back pocket with his free hand. With a flick of his wrist, a blade pops out from the little rectangular-shaped object. Your eyes widen as you come to realise his intentions.
You wince as he angles the razor-sharp blade against your cheek. He then proceeds to press the point into your skin, chuckling tauntingly as blood begins to seep from the fresh wound and onto his hand that was still restraining you from breathing.
You wanted to scream and cry for help but it almost seemed impossible. Everything around you was becoming even more blurry than before and you were positive you were going in and out of consciousness from lack of oxygen.
”you’re so pathetic. Look at you! So weak. So helpless.” he uses his blade to smear the blood that was seeping from your cheek, all over your face. ”any last words, bitch?”
You have nothing to lose.
”F-fuck y-you,” you wheeze, kneeing him in the crotch with all the strength you could muster.
With a groan, he drops the knife and falls to his knees, cupping his privates in the process.
You collapse onto the floor and frantically start gasping for air. Without hesitation, you proceed to army crawl towards the door you passed through moments ago but before you could reach it, you're being dragged back by your ankle. You twist your whole body to lay on your back and begin kicking your feet in an attempt to get the pest of a man off you.
Managing to dodge all of your kicks, he drags you closer to him and places himself in between your legs after yanking them apart.
”GET THE FUCK OFF ME!” you screech, throwing your fists directly into his face.
”Stop! Just hold still!” He holds an arm up in defence as the other begins jerking at your dress, making it ride up somewhat.
”I SAID FUCK OFF!” Your foot flies up, purposely, kicking him straight in the jaw. The impact sparks him out cold as he falls back and cracks his head against the concrete flooring beneath him. You lay there stunned.
Blood begins to pool around his body while you remain sat in the exact same spot, eyes never leaving the scene before you.
You pay close attention to his chest area to discover that it wasn’t rising and falling like it should be. The only movement evident was the deep red fluid that continued to spill from his brutal wound on the back of his head.
Fuck.
Your breathing hitches in your throat as you feel as though you were being strangled like moments prior. Following shortly behind was a tightening sensation in your chest. It was just like someone had you in a bear hug and refused to loosen their hold of you, only tightening more when you begin to freak out. Everything around you becomes hazy as you try your hardest to focus on your breathing.
The exit door unexpectedly flies open to reveal the club's security guard with his mouth agape, looking absolutely mortified.
”I- I swear I- he just—” you stutter shakily, beginning to explain what happened before completely blacking out.

Dash wants to romance Phantom and he should do it - Chapter 1
Fandom: Danny Phantom
Tags: Dash Baxter/Danny Fenton, Kwan, Fluff, ship, Danny is an idiot, hurt/comfort, angst, dating, secret exposed
Summary: Dash had a big secret: he was a hopeless romantic. Taking that a step further, he was hugely pansexual. Put those together and you had a big idiot that had lots of love to give, but nobody to spoil with it. What else could he do but fall hard and fast for Amity Park's hero, Danny Phantom?
you can read it on Ao3 here, along with several new chapters, but otherwise i figured i should get this tumblr running properly and i figured why not do it with a ship fic
Dash Baxter had a terrible, horrid, mind-blowing secret; probably the biggest secret in all of history. The truth is, he was a giant sap. Furthermore, and perhaps worse, he was an absolutely hopeless romantic.
He watched the romance channel every night, eyes glued to the screen with his chihuahua, Pooky, sat in his lap, gazing with the same rapt attention as his owner. It was his favorite time of the day, when he could go home and be himself… well, sort of. His parents would definitely skin him alive if they knew about what he fantasized about (cruises in the moonlight… wide-blown confessions… desperate tears as his lover is begged to stay…). They probably wouldn’t appreciate his sexuality much, either, which he’d figured was pan at this point.
And here was where the main problem cropped up: when Dash fell for someone, he fell hard. Snap his nose, shatter his skull, brain oozing out the ears hard. To make matters worse, he just happened to be attracted to the one man literally all of Amity Park was after as well- Danny Phantom.
Everybody else just wanted Phantom because he was a hero, Dash was sure, but there was so much more to the teenage hero than just the heroics (even though they were fucking amazing!). For instance, the way he grinned after finally beating down a stubborn ghost and it seemed to light up the sky. How he went cackling into a battle at his own horrible jokes. How his hair fluffed cutely when he slowed down to land. How his eyes literally shone with determination and bravery.
Suffice to say, Dash could go on for hours.
Phantom was strong where Dash was weak, brave where he cowered, and beautiful where he was rough.
It was honestly pathetic how badly Dash swooned for the ghost.
---
Dash slid in beside Kwan at their usual table; they were the first ones there, and simultaneously glanced around to make sure no one was in earshot.
“So I got the pictures,” Kwan mumbled, sliding them over face down like some sort of shady dealer.
“Thanks, Kwan. I knew I could count on you.” Dash palmed the photos and tried to discreetly look at them under the table. Looking back at him were several snapshots of Danny Phantom in the middle of battle; most stunning was the one where Phantom was inches from fucking roundhouse kicking some ghost in the face.
“I thought you’d like them,” Kwan said, a little too smug, having seemingly have seen some reaction in Dash’s face, “they were in super high demand when I got there.” He sighed, looking over Dash’s shoulder at the pictures, “Phantom’s just so damn flexible… ”
“Imagine all the spider-man kisses…” he mumbled without thinking, but Kwan just sighed in sympathy.
Kwan was the absolute one and only person he’d ever told about the whole romance thing. Dash had been worried he’d laugh, but he was his best friend. They’d both been sat in front of the tv watching the romance channel within the hour. He couldn’t ask for a better best friend.
Finally, the other A-listers began to join them, so Dash tucked the pictures away and settled into the routine of gossip.
---
It’d been a long, long , wait, chocked full of flustered planning, working part time jobs, and reciting, but Dash finally had everything ready to confess.
To fucking confess!
“I’m gonna throw up,” he told Kwan through the bouquet of flowers he was clutching to his chest.
“No you’re not,” he reassured, “you know why?”
“Why…?”
“Because Danny Phantom is waiting for you!”
“...No he’s not? I haven’t told him yet.” Was this some kind of metaphor? He didn’t get metaphors.
“Huh? No, I meant, uh…” Kwan visibly struggled to salvage the conversation, “I meant kinda figuratively? Like… he’s waiting but he just doesn’t know it yet?”
Dash scratched his head, “I guess…?”
“...Whatever,” Kwan flapped his hands at him, shooing him toward the door, “go get in position and I’ll track him down, okay?”
“Alright. Good luck out there!”
“You too, Baxter,” Kwan called, waving optimistically over his shoulder.
Dash took a deep breath in, then out, both ways trembling, before finally turning and jogging off to the confession site.
---
If everything went right, the plan would go as following: Kwan tracks Phantom down after a fight and asks him- begs, if necessary, that the ghost come to Amity Park’s gardens for ‘something important.’ There was a trail of roses at the entrance, leading deeper in until it came to the secluded spot that Dash sat waiting on one of the fancy benches, wearing one of his Dad’s fancy jackets and his best clothes. Dash would stand, give him, the bouquet, and then his speech… and ask him out.
In theory it was fine… but now that he was here, it felt like he was gonna pass out. He went too far, didn’t he? The trail of roses was too much- way too sappy. And what the hell kind of bouquet was he even holding!? He’d tried to use flower meanings to his advantage, but now it looked like all the colors were clashing. There was way too much. It was actually kind of heavy- or was that just his nerves? Dash lowered the bouquet to rest in his lap and wiped his forehead with his forearm.
Oh god, was he going to sweat through his clothes? Was he about to confess to his only love while there were growing sweat stains under his pits? It was about time to call this off; it was fine, they could reschedule, Phantom popped up several times a day and-
Dash flinched as his phone buzzed in his pocket, alerting him to a text from Kwan. ‘Hes coming ur way!!!’ it read.
Dash scrambled to make himself look halfway decent, sitting ramrod straight on the edge of the bench. A second later he smacked himself and leaned back, trying to look confident. He threw his arm over the back of the bench, but second guessed it after remembering the sweat.
Just be polite, he snapped at himself, before settling back with his hands in his lap, bouquet leaning against his chest.
He liked it when the characters in his shows were nervous to confess, but absolutely hated it for himself. How did they deal with this?
Dash waited for about another five excruciating minutes before he caught a bit of movement in the corner of his eye and saw Phantom coming around the corner- he hadn’t even heard him coming, oh god.
The A-lister stood, quickly smoothing down his clothes. Phantom seemed to have been collecting the roses as he went, now holding a small handful of them close to his chest. There also seemed to be a nasty looking bruise on his neck, just barely visible thanks to the high neckline of his suit. When the ghost finally looked up and saw Dash having an internal crisis a ways away, his eyes went comically wide (actually that was really cute…).
“Phant-om,” he began, his voice cracking on the very first fucking word, “uh, first of all, I’m really, really happy you could meet me here. Second…” Dash trailed off; his nerves were frying his memory. He saw Phantom take a breath to speak and panicked, quickly thrusting the bouquet toward him. “This is for you!”
The ghost fumbled it for a second, what with already holding the other flowers he’d picked up along the way. The bouquet looked huge in his hands; it also looked prettier in his hands. Less child’s-hateful-crayon-art and more graceful-rainbow-over-the-sea.
Dash tried to take a steadying breath and spoke softly, “so I know you definitely have a lot of admirers… like a lot a lot, but… I decided that I couldn’t live without- that I couldn’t go on without at least trying. ” He felt a hot wash of shame at the slip up, but he couldn’t stop now, “I-I see you fight and you make me brave, I see you smile and my whole world lights up. You’re just- you’re beautiful and amazing and- and…” Dash finally made eye contact, remembering that confidence in these situations was important, when his mind blanked. Oh god- oh god- Phantom was blushing a green glow. That was kinda weird- actually nevermind- that was fucking adorable.
Phantom glanced away and laughed nervously, “Dash, I uh-”
“W-wait, let me finish,” he cut in quickly, in a bit of a panic, “please,” tacked unhelpfully onto the end. Phantom shifted awkwardly, but nodded; Dash would have missed the way he held the flowers a little closer to him, if not for the subtle crinkle of their wrapping.
He huffed and forced himself to continue, “the- the point is! ...It’s…” the script was a mess at this point… “it’s that you mean more to me than you’ll ever know and… I want you to go out with me. Please. I-...” he nodded with finality, blushing madly. He’d botched that so bad. He screwed up, hadn’t he? Oh god… Kwan was gonna be so disappointed in him…
Phantom took a deep breath and shifted the bouquet to one arm so he could rub the back of his neck. “...I, uh,” he began after awhile, “I really, really appreciate this, but,” Dash’s heart sunk in his chest- more realistically, actually, it hit the bottom of his stomach with a loud clatter. Phantom must’ve heard it, because he quickly went on, “a relationship with me of all would get really complicated really fast. I, uh, I don’t wanna pin that on anybody. Especially not you. Dash. So…”
Dash blinked stupidly for a second. “...You mean the ghost fighting? I know- I know! A-and I’m prepared for that! I thought it all out- you could go out and fight ghosts, no problem, but when you’re done, I’d be waiting for you back at home!”
Phantom gave him an odd look, “...home?”
“Oh, uh, yeah,” Dash fumbled, suddenly embarrassed again, “I figured you lived in the ghost zone or something and that you could just come to my place whenever we wanted to hang. ...That! Also! Solves the whole thing about you being super famous and all, y’know?” Dash began gesturing wildly, his nerves getting the better of him at this point, “you don’t even have to tell anybody we’re dating! I know everybody’d be super pissed if you did. This whole thing can just be our little secret!”
The ghost winced before he could cover it up, “about secrets… there’s a lot I can’t tell you. About myself. About ghosts. It’s just… Dash. You’re- you’re a great guy and all, but… a relationship with me would seriously be a bad move.” Dash was about to cut in, but Phantom talked over him, “can’t you do better than a secretive, dead guy, who fights other dead guys for a living? Your still in highschool. Uh, aren’t you? So- so at the very least, go and like… be with somebody that can actually contribute to the relationship.” He shrugged awkwardly, “or, I dunno, marry some rich dude and ride out life with money instead. Whatever suits you.”
Dash saw his chance and snagged it with both hands, “ you suit me,” he blurted.
Phantom gave him a look and Dash would’ve fainted right then and there if it weren’t for the telling blush that came with it (those piercing green eyes could give grown men heart attacks, honestly).
“That’s not- ugh. Dash-” Phantom huffed in frustration.
“No! Okay, listen up, Danny Phantom,” the ghost seemed to twitch at the use of his full name, “I think you’re fucking amazing! I’ve been a huge fan since you just started out saving people. And the day that we both got shrunk super puny and had to run around a lot- that was really really tiring, but not the point! That was the best day I ever had!” Was he shaking? He was definitely shaking; he was practically yelling at Amity Park’s hero to date him. “There’s nobody else that I would even dream of being with other than you! I- I’ve…
“I’ve fantasized this moment a thousand times.” Dash swallowed thickly and deflated. “And I just… it would make me so happy if you agreed to go out with me.”
Phantom looked terribly conflicted- maybe even a little dazed. The longer Dash looked at him, the more he started to notice how banged up he seemed. Oh, right; Kwan had pulled him right out of a fight, without even giving him a chance to go rest up. Dash was swamped with a sudden guilt- Phantom had dragged himself way out here to listen to his blabbering while all Dash had been worried about were sweat stains and color coordination… oh god.
Quickly, Dash began patting his pockets, some of his nerves finally falling away now that he realized how bad he’d fucked up. He pulled out an antiseptic spray and bandages before offering them to Phantom. “I’m so, so sorry- I didn’t think you’d actually be, like, hurt hurt…”
“What? It’s fine, it happens all the time, uh…” the ghost awkwardly set the bouquet on the bench (very gently…) and took both items.
Shit, the ghost. “Wait, do ghosts even use that stuff? Dammit, I’m sorry…!”
“Again, it’s fine, chill. Just… why do you carry these around with you?”
“...Uhhh-”
“Duh, nevermind, most haunted city in America. My bad.” Phantom devolved into mumbling as he tore off a bit of bandages and reached below his neckline to press it, presumably, to his collar bone. When he pulled back, the bandages were dripping with green. He tore off more and repeated the process.
Dash watched for a moment before the guilt finally overtook and any hope of romance steadily fell away. He shuffled to the bench and sat down with a long sigh. “You can keep those. And… and you don’t have to answer all my earlier stuff. Not now- and… well, I guess not ever. ...Though I doubt I’ll stop coming to your fights.”
Phantom watched him warily for a second before floating to the bench and sitting down as well, leaving the bouquet to rest between them.
This is where there would be some beautiful parallel drawn between love and their relationship or some such, but Dash sucked at poetry and he wasn’t anywhere near smart enough to make metaphors on his own. So he just looked around the garden while Phantom dealt with the wound.
“...I didn’t take you for the romantic type…” the ghost mumbled after awhile.
Dash found his face flushing slightly, “uh, yeah… it’s sorta my secret.”
“I didn’t take you for being, what, gay? Either.”
“I’m pansexual,” Dash watch the collection of wadded bandages glow a collective, soft green, “and yeah… I guess that’s my other secret. I’m part of the A-list at school- they’re the best of the best. Cream of the crop. We’re the cool kids. The best- ”
“I get it,” Phantom huffed, but didn’t seem upset at all.
“Uh, yeah, sorry. But yeah, I’d definitely get kicked out of the A-list if they knew about this stuff… well, my best friend knows, but he’s cool.”
Phantom hummed and they fell into silence. Dash felt like he should be apologizing, but he didn’t want to ruin this more than he already had. It’d just be a broken record anyway. He sort of wanted to go home and try to forget this ever happened (a lost cause), but he didn’t want to just ditch Phantom after all he’d suddenly sprung on the wounded ghost. That would just be downright unforgivable. Could he walk Phantom home? Was that possible?
Just when he was working up the courage to ask, Phantom spoke first, “what would you even want out of dating me?”
Dash blinked owlishly at him, though the ghost wouldn’t meet his eyes. “Uh, duh! You? I already said all that stuff about you being super cool and heroic and awesome and pretty, didn’t I?” Phantom seemed to choke a little at that last one; he’d have to remember that. “I just wanna get to know you and, like, do stuff with you and… y’know! Dating stuff! We could watch movies together late at night, we could kissss? We could, uh, share food, share stories, just… date! We could make each other happy and all that.”
Phantom seemed to visibly flounder for a long moment, having set aside the bandages in favor of resting his elbows on his knees and his chin in his hands. A scowl slowly stretched across his face until, finally, he groaned and leaned back into the bench. “...Y’know what,” he mumbled.
“What,” Dash parroted, even though he was pretty sure that was rhetorical. For some reason, his heart was pounding again.
“...I’ll date you,” Phantom mumbled, watching him out of the corner of his eye.
A grin broke across Dash’s face, but he had to slap a hand across it before he squealed in front of his crush like an idiot.

Untamed Winter Fest Day 4
Decorating
Wei Wuxian sits still, while A-Yuan is decorating his hair with all the beads and clips he could find, and some, Wei Wuxian is sure about that, he stole from kindergarten.
“Almost done, baba,” A-Yuan tells him as he yanks at yet another strand of hair before his clumsy chubby fingers clip a no doubt sparkling bead into it, and Wei Wuxian patiently waits until A-Yuan deems his hair to be pretty enough.
“Are you sure you have enough clips?” Wei Wuxian asks teasingly when yet another ten minutes pass, and he can almost see A-Yuan pout behind him.
“It’s too much hair,” A-Yuan tells him seriously as he puts two clips in rapid succession into his hair and Wei Wuxian laughs.
“Wait until you have your hair grown out, then I’ll be the one to put all the pretty sparkling things into it!” he says and spins around to tickle A-Yuan.
“Noooo,” he shrieks, clumsily pushing Wei Wuxian’s hands away but he’s laughing and that’s the only thing that matters.
A-Yuan didn’t have anything to laugh about for way too long now.
A-Yuan finally gets away from Wei Wuxian, and he takes the opportunity to dash away, his little feet carrying him through the apartment as quick as they can, and Wei Wuxian takes off after him, careful to always just be one step behind him.
A-Yuan’s happy shrieks fill the rooms and Wei Wuxian’s heart blooms with the sound of it.
He skids to a stop in front of a mirror, exaggerating gasp leaving his lips and it’s enough to bring A-Yuan back, peering around the corner in case it’s a trick.
A-Yuan knows him too well already, Wei Wuxian fondly thinks, before he concentrates back on his reflection.
“Who is this handsome man in the mirror?” he asks and turns his head this and that way, making the beads sparkle. “Look at his pretty hair! I wonder what master did the decorating?” he muses and A-Yuan giggles before he runs forward to hug Wei Wuxian’s leg.
“I did, I did!” he tells Wei Wuxian.
“And you did such a pretty job!” Wei Wuxian tells him, leaning down to pick A-Yuan up and lift him high, getting more happy giggles out of the boy.
Wei Wuxian hopes he can protect him forever.
“Where did you get all of the clips anyway?” Wei Wuxian asks as he settles A-Yuan on his hip and he immediately reaches out to play with a rainbow one in Wei Wuxian’s hair.
“Aunt Qing gave them to me,” he tells Wei Wuxian.
He wonders when Wen Qing had the time to stop by the kindergarten, wonders if it was safe for them, but he shakes his head at that thought. Wen Qing would never do anything to put A-Yuan into danger.
“Did she say anything about your Uncle Ning?” Wei Wuxian asks but A-Yuan shakes his head.
Still in a coma then, Wei Wuxian thinks and presses a kiss to A-Yuan’s cheek.
“Do you want to take a picture of your work, so you can show Aunt Qing the next time you see her?” he asks, and A-Yuan immediately lights up again, nodding vigorously.
“Then go get the phone,” Wei Wuxian says and puts A-Yuan back down, just as the doorbell rings.
They both freeze for a second, Wei Wuxian because their time on the run is still too close, too present, and A-Yuan because he is too clever for his age and knows when to keep quiet.
“Go to your room,” Wei Wuxian quietly tells him, because they are not expecting anyone, and better to be safe than sorry.
“Yes, baba,” A-Yuan says and shuffles away.
Wei Wuxian waits until the door is closed behind him, before he goes to the front door.
By now he really wishes they had gotten the heavy security system Wen Qing had insisted on, just so he could check who was on the other side of the door without actually opening it, but he had declined that offer in an attempt to appear normal.
It was important for A-Yuan to not stand out too much.
Wei Wuxian takes a deep breath before he plasters a smile on his face as he opens the door, but as soon as he sees who’s on the other side, it falls away again.
“Lan Zhan,” he whispers, the longing hitting him so suddenly and so hard that he almost reaches out for him the moment he sees him.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan says, a relieved note to his voice and Wei Wuxian’s eyes burn at hearing his voice.
But then reality settles back in, and it’s like he was doused in ice cold water.
“How much time do we have?” he asks, trying to push the desperation down and focus.
They have been here for barely more than half a year, after almost three on the run to get Jin Guangshan off their trail, and A-Yuan has finally made some friends, adjusted to this new life.
Of course it would come to a crashing end now.
Lan Zhan just stares at him, and Wei Wuxian steps forward, takes his arm and shakes him a little bit.
“Lan Zhan, how much time do we have?”
“Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan says again, like he can’t believe he found him and Wei Wuxian shakes his head.
“Tell me, when did you tell your brother? How much time do A-Yuan and I have?” he demands to know but Lan Zhan just stares at him like he doesn’t understand.
Wei Wuxian wants to believe it, that Lan Zhan doesn’t know what’s going on, but even if he doesn’t Lan Xichen must have helped him find Wei Wuxian. And if Lan Xichen knows, then so does Jin Guangyao, who certainly told his father.
Which means Wei Wuxian maybe has an hour at most to get A-Yuan and run.
“Baba?” A-Yuan suddenly asks from behind him, and Wei Wuxian moves in front of him on instinct, trying to shield him from Lan Zhan.
He sees the hurt on Lan Zhan’s face at that, the confusion there too, but he can’t let that matter, no matter how much it pains him to see that.
The only thing that matters is A-Yuan.
“Do we have to leave again?” A-Yuan asks, voice small and shaking and Wei Wuxian puts a hand to his head.
“Yes, baby. Get your stuff,” he instructs, glad he always keeps an emergency bag packed for both of them.
“I don’t wanna leave again,” A-Yuan whispers and Wei Wuxian can hear the tears in his voice.
He thinks if A-Yuan starts crying now, he’ll just cry with him.
“I know,” he tries to calm him down. “But they found us and so we have to leave.”
“Is he an evil man?” A-Yuan asks and peers around Wei Wuxian’s legs to look at Lan Zhan.
“No, he’s not,” Wei Wuxian says, because that, at least, is something he knows with certainty.
Lan Zhan would never deliberately hand them over to Jin Guangshan, Wei Wuxian is sure of that. But it doesn’t change the fact that he shares everything with his brother, who is wrapped around Jin Guangyao’s little finger.
“Then why do we have to leave? I don’t wanna leave, I have friends here! Why do you always make us leave, I hate you!” A-Yuan suddenly screams and now the tears Wei Wuxian was keeping at bay really threaten to fall.
“Wei Ying,” Lan Zhan says alarmed, steps into the apartment, arm outstretched as if to comfort Wei Wuxian, but he picks up A-Yuan and retreats further into the apartment.
“Don’t--I can’t--why did you have to come look for us?” he asks, voice shaking and he hates himself for it.
He has missed Lan Zhan so much these past years, always wished that he could somehow contact him, hear his voice again, but he couldn’t endanger A-Yuan like that.
“You just left,” Lan Zhan says, like that explains anything and Wei Wuxian shakes his head at him.
“I had to,” he whispers, presses A-Yuan close him as he strokes a soothing hand up and down his back. “I had to protect him.”
Wei Wuxian still remembers when Wen Qing stood at his doorstep, run down and shaking, an exhausted A-Yuan on her hip and her brother fresh in the hospital. It had taken Wei Wuxian barely an hour to pack his things and run with A-Yuan.
He was supposed to meet with Lan Zhan that evening.
Lan Zhan tears his eyes away from Wei Wuxian for the first time since he opened the door and he looks at A-Yuan, who is still sniffling slightly. Wei Wuxian fights the instinct to shield him again, reminds himself that Lan Zhan himself is not a danger, but it’s hard. Three years is a lot of time to form some habits.
“He’s a Wen,” Lan Zhan finally whispers and Wei Wuxian flinches.
“He goes by Wei Yuan, now,” he gives back.
He still remembers the first time he held the forged papers in his hands, how he wished it could be true, that A-Yuan was truly his, but it was just the most practical thing at that time.
“Your son,” Lan Zhan nods, and he closes the door behind him, causing Wei Wuxian to flinch.
Lan Zhan sees it, and he uncertainly steps away from the door.
“I’m not here to hurt you,” he says, as if Wei Wuxian could ever think he would.
“That’s not it, Lan Zhan,” he tries to explain. “But if you’re here, your brother knows, he helped you, and if he knows, then so does Jin Guangyao. You know how your brother is. He probably didn’t mean to, but he will have told him and Jin Guangyao just wants to please his dad. We have to leave, now.”
“Not my brother,” Lan Zhan explains with a shake of his head. “Yours.”
“Jiang Cheng,” Wei Wuxian breathes out and the longing slams into him again hard.
He misses his family so much.
“We had two possible locations,” Lan Zhan explains and just on queue his phone starts to ring.
Lan Zhan holds it out for Wei Wuxian to see, the name ‘Jiang Wanyin’ flashing brightly on the screen and Wei Wuxian takes it with shaking hands.
He accepts the call and presses it to his ear.
“He’s not here, so you better tell me you found him, Lan Wangji,” Jiang Cheng’s voice fills Wei Wuxian’s ear, and he can hear the worry under the angry demand and he can’t help the sob that breaks through.
There is silence on the other end of the line.
“Wei Wuxian?” Jiang Cheng carefully asks and now Wei Wuxian cries for real.
“You goddamn fucking idiot,” Jiang Cheng snaps and Wei Wuxian laughs through his tears because of course.
It wouldn’t be Jiang Cheng if he wasn’t abrasive like this.
“You’re going to come home,” Jiang Cheng demands. “A-jie has been worried sick about you.”
“I can’t, I can’t,” Wei Wuxian mumbles, because A-Yuan is still his priority.
Has to be, no matter how much he misses everyone.
Lan Zhan carefully slides the phone out of his hand and puts the call on speaker.
“He has the boy,” he tells Jiang Cheng who mutters “Of course” under his breath.
“They are going to come home,” Jiang Cheng says again and Wei Wuxian shakes his head.
“I can’t, A-Yuan--,”
“Will be safe,” Jiang Cheng interrupts him. “I know you didn’t trust us with this, but we’ve been building a case against Jin Guangshan. We need you to come home.”
“A case?” Wei Wuxian asks and looks with wide eyes at Lan Zhan.
“Mh,” he agrees. “We’re missing a witness. We’re missing you.”
“A-Xian, you can come home,” Jiang Cheng says and his voice is uncharacteristically soft.
Wei Wuxian blames that for the new tears.
“Baba?” A-Yuan asks and puts his little hands on Wei Wuxian’s face, tries to wipe the tears away.
“We’re going home, baby,” Wei Wuxian tells him and really, the way A-Yuan’s face lights up could be his only reason to live.
“Home to Uncle Ning and Aunt Qing and Grandma?” he shrieks and Wei Wuxian looks at Lan Zhan for an answer.
He doesn’t know if Grandma made it out in time, but Lan Zhan nods.
“Yes, baby,” Wei Wuxian gladly tells him, and almost chokes when A-Yuan throws his arms around his neck and squeezes tight.
Wei Wuxian keeps his eyes on Lan Zhan, sees how his features soften and he has missed him so much.
“I didn’t mean to leave you,” he whispers, doesn’t know if he’s still allowed to say things like that to him, but Lan Zhan smiles faintly at him, the one Wei Wuxian loves best, the one that’s mostly visible in the corner of his eyes.
“I know that,” Lan Zhan says and reaches out for Wei Wuxian, takes his hand and pulls him close, so that he can press a lingering kiss to Wei Wuxian’s forehead. “Won’t let you or A-Yuan go again, now,” he promises and Wei Wuxian is yet again stunned just how good Lan Zhan is.
“Okay,” Wei Wuxian agrees, because it’s everything he wants in his life.
It will be okay now.

So, thanks to some A+++ enabling from the discord server, I've decided to post my BNHA self insert fanfic. I haven't really talked about my insert, but I plan to sometime in the future, but for now I"ll leave ya'll in the dark.
This whole thing was made just to make me and my friends feel good and give us some much needed self indulgence.
Word Count- 1,550
Hypnotica- My S/I
Grafight- @fictional-characters-are-hot's S/I
Slasher- @alwayslovestruck's S/I
It's been 3 hours.
4 hours since the hero team Discorded was asked to help out with a capturing some drug smugglers.
3 1/2 hours since they found the drug den.
3 hours since Hypnotica sent in Grafight and Slasher to covertly search the place.
3 hours since he's heard a response.
It was a loud, shrill scream that made his blood go cold. Expecting the worst, he decided to find some loiters and use his quirk to get some backup.
After being only able to scour up 2 shadows for his mask alts to posses, he realized the longer he spends time looking for people, the more harm could come to his friends...*family*. Dolly, taking the form of a Harpy, and Dylan taking a shape of a Lion man, will have to do for backup. Hoping that it won't be needed, he finds an open window and heads into the den.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Look! They're opening the crates. That must be how they ship the quirk enhancing drugs."
"Slasher. I can't see shit, it's too dark in here and I don't have dope cat eyes like yo-....wait a sec..."
The younger of the heroes takes out a sketch book and quickly draws our some night vision binoculars and they suddenly 'pop' out into a physical object. After giving a thumbs up, in order to stay quite, Grafight uses the goggles.
"Oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiit....that's a lot of powder. How the hell do they sell it all?"
Slasher just shrugs it off and continues watching the group of men, tail swaying as they do.
All of a sudden, all of the men stop moving. A few moments later they all turn to the gurder that the hero duo were perched on.
"Hey! Lookey here fellas, some new 'test subjects' to try the new mix on."
"Oh as if you'd even come close to touching us! You won't even get a chance to lay a finger on us. Right Grafight?"
"Right! Good luck fuckers!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Slasher! Grafight! What's going o-...."
"We won!'
Hypnotica was greeted by the sight of Slasher triumphantly standing with one foot on top of a human mound of passed out thugs while Grafight was looking over the crate of drugs, kicking one of the thugs that started move on the ground.
"Wha- Then who the hell screamed?!"
Grafight, grabbing the thug she kicked by his collar and threatening to punch him again.
"This guy did. I think he's like...the kingpin or something. Screams like a little bitch though."
"We managed to take these guys out super easily, like it was nothing! Can't believe they were talkin' smack like they could beat us..."
Still a bit shaken up from his worry, Hypnotica headed over to check out the crate. Noticing a strange metal box buried slightly underneath some of the drugs, he pulls it out and begins to question the kingpin about it.
"This your tracker? Is this the thing that you use to keep an eye on your 'supplies'?"
"You better answer. Grafight is pretty liberal with bodily harm."
Slasher says as she walks over to look at the box better, poking it with one of her claws.
"...it....it...he.....hehaha..."
"Punching time?" Grafight asks looking up at Hypnotica.
"Not yet. He needs to be conscious to answer our questions."
"Talk then, asshat."
"...doesn't matter....we....we were gunna..."
"Gunna what, idiot?!"
"d....die...die anways..."
"...Punch him Grafight."
Hypnotica grumbles while Dolly pried open the box with her talons.
"Gladly!"
"...I don't think he meant, like, *80 times Grafight...*"
Slasher now worriedly watches as the kingpin get's absolutely destroyed by fists.
"..."
Hypnotica seems frozen as he looks down at the box, unmoving, and holding his breath. Cocking her head, Slasher notices that somethings wrong with him.
"Hey....you alright big bro?"
"..."
Finally stopping her onslaught on the kingpin, Grafight looks over to Hypnotica.
"Cat got your tongue or something?"
Still not saying a word, Hypnotica turns the box so the others can see. In the box is a small glowing green tube with wires attached to it, there's also a countdown screen slightly below it. It's only got 3 seconds left on it.
As her tail drops, so does her heart, with only a few second to accept her fate Slasher meekly gasps as she starts to speak.
'Oh..'
'Shit'
Grafight finishes Slasher's thought, right before everything goes white.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sirens are blaring as the green mist clears from the rubble of what's left of the warehouse. Various bodies are strewn all about, policemen and EMTs were able to arrive on the scene fairly quickly. Not that it mattered, the damage was done. From the looks of everything, there was no survivors, all thugs and kingpin were either crushed by the rubble or suffered from some strange type of asphyxiation. Death seemed to encompass the area, until one of the EMTs discovered a lion like shadowy figure seemingly protecting a group of still breathing bodies. The figure soon dissipated leaving a strange mask in it's place.
The bodies were still alive, but barely, and they needed medical attention and fast.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"-Sources say that the 'hero' team were incapable of apprehending the group and had to resort to extreme measures to stop the-"
"Horseshit! Why would we set off a bomb? We had it covered already, it wouldn't kill them to get their facts straight..."
"Calm down Gummybear, the doc said you shouldn't strain yourself..."
It's been 4 days since Grafight was released from the hospital, suffering from 2 broken arms, rendering her unable to use her quirk...among other things. Fatgum, her partner, had insisted to stay by her side until things healed, neglecting his own hero duties in the process.
"The doc can shove it as far I care! These newscasters have no right to spew out garbage lies like that! It's gunna hurt our rep.... Sure we might not be the nicest, safest, smartest heroes in the game, but we aren't villainous either!"
"...You...you do have a point, but don't worry about it, I"m sure one of the others will give them a piece of their mind and sort things out. Right now you and I have dinner to eat!"
Grumbling as she rose from the couch, Grafight followed her partner to the kitchen, sitting down at the small round dinning table that the family usually shared. This dinner was different though. The table had a nice white satin cloth draped over it, with 2 light candles on top. It seemed that this time these two will be dinning alone.
"Take a seat baby, I'll go grab our meal."
"It better be something good, the meals at the hospital were utter shit..."
She lets her sentence trail on as a covered plate is placed ever so gently in front of her.
"Oh? Did you plan on surprising me? ....Babe, my arms, I can't open it."
"Yeah, my bad, here ya go my sweet Gummy."
Fatgum slowly removes the cover for maximum surprise effect. Once it's off, Grafight can't help but smiley widely as she notices one of her favorite meals, but with a culinary twist. Hotdogs sliced up into star shapes, surrounded by a circle of mashed potatoes, topped with melted cheese, a dash or salt, and a glob of ketchup in the middle of it all.
"So? Ya like?"
"..."
Grafight's eye's start to tear up, but her smile still stays plastered on her face. Fatgum notices right away and goes to quickly grab some tissues.
"Oh Gummy, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to upset you! I just...I just thought I could do something special for ya...I...I-"
"Oh baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaabe! I love it! Omg, I love it so much, you're the best, you know that right?"
"I...yeah....no. Wait. YOU'RE the best, you're so strong and special to me, I...I"m just so happy that I didn't lose you...you mean the universe to me."
"Stop...I'm already crying, let's just...let's just enjoy this meal together, okay?"
"Okay. I"m starving anyways..."
Fatgum takes his place across from Grafight, and starts to devour his meal.
"Uh....Ahem...."
"Oh! Yeah, my bad, let me help ya."
The two enjoy their meal together, never breaking their love filled eye contact.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Slow down Mochi, you shouldn't be over-exerting yourself."
"But Kano, I want to dance! I really like this song...cough cough...it's a total....total banger, and I deserve to have some.....fun after what happened. Everyone else has been so....gloomy since then....I just....want to bring some life.....back into the house is all...."
"I know, I know...but, you won't be able to do much joy-spreading if you can barely walk to the mailbox without getting winded halfway there."
"Hmph, stupid bomb chemicals getting.....getting into my lungs...fucking up my whole system...did they ever figure out what...what was in that tube...anyways?"
"They still haven't called us back about the results yet, but they said the inhaler they gave you was working well enough for us not to worry. So we won't, right Mochi?"
"...Yeah...I guess...I just hate...feeling weak like this...I wanna cry but.... I don't want the others to...to see....they've been through enough....I don't wan them to worry about me...me too..."
Kano takes a moment to think, after a moment he takes Slasher's paw and leads her into the living room.
"Sweety...what are you doing?"
After he gets Slasher to relax on the couch, he walks over the Hypnotica's advance sound system and grabs a homemade looking CD. Putting it in he looks to Slasher.
"The good doctor said YOU shouldn't exert yourself, but....he never said anything about me."
As soon as the music starts, Kano begins to dance in a way that's all to familiar to Slasher. It's a dance they've grown to call the 'Humpty Dance', and no one else in the house can quite get it right like these two.
"Oh Kano! This....this makes me so....happy! Keep...keep going! Maybe...maybe you could...put in some...Slipknot next? Pwetty Pwease?"
"Anything for you my Mochi."
Slasher enjoys the show Kano puts on for almost 2 hours, by the time he gets done, Kano is just about as winded as Slasher has been recently. The two then cuddle on the couch, just taking in each other's slow and labored breathes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You will most certainly not."
Sir Nighteye slams his hand down on the counter to emphasize his point, making Hypntoica jump a little.
"And why the fuck not? The need to get their facts straight. I will not stand for all of this fucking slander."
Sir sighs and pushes his glasses up, trying to calm himself down.
"I understand that, but 'kidnapping the newsroom executive' is not the most ideal way to go about it. You can barely walk, even with the crutches!"
Motioning to Hypnotica's broken left leg, and the sprain in his other. Hypnotica just huffs and looks off to the side, still with an angered expression plastered on his face.
"So. Fucking. What? Okay, maybe kidnapping is a bit extreme, but..."
Sir's own angry expression starts to soften as he notices the tears that begin to fall from his partner's face. Wondering how long he's been holding it in.
"...I can't let my family take the blame for a stupid mistake that I made!"
Hypnotica's body begins to shudder as more tears fall, Sir walks over to him and embraces him in a way to try to calm him down.
"It's not your fault...all of you did what you could to try and handle the situation."
"That doesn't excuse all of the death and destruction that happened, and not to mention all the hurt my family is going through because of it!"
"No. It doesn't. But how is any of that your doing, hmm?"
"...I...I..."
"Shh, just stay, and relax. I'll make up a fully detailed report and send out a few copies to some of the stations. They'll most likely use those facts since my name does carry some weight..."
While still holding him with his right hand, Sir uses his left to tilt Hypnotica's chin up to meet his eyes. After a few seconds go by, he rests his head on his partner's.
"...Trust me dear. Everything will turn out just fine."
"Promise?"
"I promise. I saw it."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"A trusted source, who has decided to stay anonymous, has confirmed that the deaths in the Discorded Warehouse accident were not the before mentioned teams fault, but the fault of-"
"Thank you! Finally, a news channel that checks their facts. Even though I'm fine with a few deaths under my belt, but whatever I guess."
"Oh! Look Gummy! That's me! Saving all of those orphans was quite the task, I'll have to tell you all about it later."
"Kano my love! Let me help you with those dishes, there is far to many for one man to clean."
"Thank you Mochi! I kinda went all out with the meal this time, it was a celebration for everyone recovering so quickly....well, mostly everyone..."
"I call bullshit. Of course right after I get healed I trip down the stairs and end up right back to square one."
"Guess that means I'll have play nurse bit longer my dear."
2020
Uh oh, it’s time for the cranky smol one to get sappy af. Prepare yourselves. Because yeah, I’m gonna get sappy.
This past year has been… To put it bluntly, it was one hell of a ride. I moved from state to state after spending the past two years taking care of my mother, I lost important people in my life (some through my own stupidity, others simply because they showed their true colors) and I lost a pet that for 13 years roughly, was a huge part of my life. I rescued a cat. I feel like this past year taught me a lot but the most important thing that it taught me was to be thankful for who/what I have in my life, because I might not always have these things/people.
Since there’s a loooot, holy shit so much.. I’ll put a read more.
REGRETS:
First of all, to the one person I’m no longer speaking to/following on here. I just know that you were a blessing in my life while you were around. I know we couldn’t ever really be close friends like we were before everything played out, but I truly hope the best things in life happen to you. You’re a good person, always know that. I hope you’re happier now and I hope that you eventually find and embrace your own inner truth without anxiety or fear.
Secondly, there were a few people who I misjudged/let go of this past year that maybe I wish I hadn’t. If any of you are reading this, I’m so so so so sorry. I don’t know what made me do it, but I know that I just… Felt like I wasn’t as good as any of you and like I never really fit in, so rather than make you all keep dealing with me, I did what I thought was best and cut the cord. I really wish I hadn’t and I know it’s probably way too late, but I really am sorry. You were great people and I really do miss our talks and stuff. I just felt like I was in the way, so I took myself out. Anxiety is a real bitch and while that’s not an excuse for me just going silent / blocking you guys, it’s the simplest truth. I was in a bad place for a while there and in my own head too much. I’m better now, but I’m fairly sure that it’s too little & too late. So, once again, I’m so so so sorry.
NEW FRIENDS:
Oh god, where to start? I made so many new friends this year on this blue hell-site. So many. And I’m thankful for every single one of you even if I somehow miss your name. On that note,I’m sorry in advance if I do and I mean nothing by it. Also, these are in absolutely no certain order. If I tried to go alphabetically, I’d probably wind up messing it up.
@xladyxfatex I am so, so, so, so glad you sent me that meme and we started to talk. It has been so much fun rp’ing again, and I’m really enjoying getting to know you better. I love our rp and you’re such a sweet person. I can’t wait to see where this year takes us.
@writtingrose you are an amazing writer and you’re a down to earth and sweet person. I was moved by your Beautiful To Me series (it’s plus size reader, you guys MUST go read it.) and I’m so glad I reached out. I can’t wait to start our rp, if you’re still down for it. I love reading your writing and I can’t wait to get to know you better.
@komaniac I absolutely love your love for Kevin. I really don’t get to talk to you often, but I’ll see your Kevin posts and I’m like sitting on my side of the computer screen silently nodding. Your Kevin content is always making me smile. I love you for that, never change.
@rampagewriting… I can’t remember which of us reached out first, but girl. I am so so glad we’re friends. You’re an amazing and strong person and I love all your fics. I love opening our DM and yelling about things with you, whether it’s Zak Bagans ( we deffo need to go ghost hunting one day, tbh) or any of our other favorites. I’m so glad we’re friends and I hope that we get to be even better friends during 2020.
@the-ville-idiot Wren, I love you. Seriously, I love you. You’re always so bubbly and happy and like… I legit enjoy our random conversations. We have a lot in common.
@doedreamss Ashley, I mean Doe. You’re such a sweetheart and I wish I had half the life experiences you have. I love you. I enjoy talking to you about certain cowboys and certain bad boys. I love your writing, I wish I wrote more like you did, tbh. I hope you never change and I hope we stay friends. If you ever need to talk or want to talk, you’re always welcome in my DM’s.
@robwiethoff I LOVE LOVE YOUR LOVE FOR HANGMAN. I aspire to love something/someone as much, tbh. I know I’m probably annoying af, but honestly, I enjoy talking to you. I hope to get to know you better, you’re a sweetheart. I love reading your writing / hearing your ideas and honestly, just.. I send you hugs.
@adamcolesteeth I’ve really enjoyed talking to you and I genuinely thank you for the random fake fic title prompts, because I’ve really had a blast doing them. I loved your Christmas Luchasaurus fic, it was so much fun to read.
@hardcorewwetrash we may not like the same football teams, ( roll damn tide, lol) but I honestly love to read your posts. You’re a real person and the world needs more of those. You speak your mind. I honestly wish I could just do that sometimes. It’s been so fun talking to you / seeing your posts on the dash.
@country-believethat-gallowaywwe AHHHH. I LOVE THE TALKS WE HAVE ABOUT DREW. Also, thanks for all the picture inspiration you send me that one time I really, really, really needed it. I think you’re a sweetheart and I hope to get to know you better / have more talks in the future.
@twdeadfanfic I love your fics, first of all. You’re an amazing writer and you blow me away with each new one you post. I know we don’t get to talk often, but I enjoy talking to you.
@heel-rollins you are a sweetheart. I love talking to you and I wish we got to talk more, tbh.
@hamstxr I love your posts, they always make me smile. I wish we get to talk more and you seem like a really sweet person.
@kittysilver86 Kitty, I love you. You’re a positive and sweet person and your writing is so good and so fluffy yet dirty, I love it. I love Ava as a character and I love these little universes you make up. Your posts always make me smile and honestly, I just wanna hug you. I really enjoy being friends with you even though we don’t get to talk often.
@schizoauthoress You’re a really kind person. I really enjoy your posts on my dash and I love the talks we’ve had there. If you ever wanna talk my DM’s are always open. You seem really down to earth and really open and I love that. I hope to get to know you better this year.
@vonschweetz Von, I am so proud of you. You’ve been through a lot and you went above and beyond to rise out of it all and you’re thriving now. You’re a huge inspiration and you’re so freaking sweet that like.. If anyone ever tried to hurt you, I’d probably give them these hands. I love talking to you, I love looking at your edits and I really, really, really love your fics. You always make me smile.
OLD FRIENDS:
@helluvawriter you’re a kind person and I love you so much. You’re a really amazing writer and you’re always so down to earth. You were the first friend I made in the wrestling fandom way back when and even though we don’t get to talk much anymore, I love you and I love our talks when we do. You’re an amazing mother. I hope if I ever get to be a mom, I’m like you. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@andie01 holy shit.. You’re so much fun to talk to. I love that you’re as blunt as me and that we can just DM back and forth about total randomness. I love Beasts, it’s one of my favorite fanfictions of all time. I love you so much. Like.. you’re an inspiration to me and i don’t think you realize that. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@wrestlingismyguiltypleasure First of all, you’re an amazing mother. And I am so happy for you and your little family! I love talking to you, even if we don’t get to talk that much anymore, I enjoy our talks when we do. You’re going to get me to write Alpha!Ethan Carter III yet, I promise. It’s coming. You inspire me and I love the random things you send me to look at. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@kayah16 I wish I was half as creative as you. I love reading your one shots and I love you. You’re a really amazing and kind person and honestly, the world could use more of that. There are so many times I’m having an absolute shit day and I log on and you’ve sent me a recipe or tagged me in something that makes me smile. I wish I could hug you. I hope I can help you as much as you’ve helped me. If you ever need me, I’m here. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@missjenniferb I love the random thirst tags and the dm’s at 1 am, they always make me smile. I love that you tag me in Bucky things now, because that’s kinda how I got so deep into him. I blame you for that. I really have so much fun talking to you because it’s like… the lengths of our dirty minds combined, and i live for that. You always make me smile, I just hope I make you smile too. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@heelsamizayn you’re also another person I started to talk to way back when and honestly, I really, really, really love you. You’re a sweet and blunt person who isn’t afraid to say what she thinks. I love talking to you, whether it be about any of our thirsts or whatever we’re writing or random stuff that irritates us both during the day. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@bo0kitten I really love our talks. We like a lot of the same bands, and you always have these well thought out opinions / facts on things. I love seeing you on my dash and I really wish we got to talk more often. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@chasingeverybreakingwave BB you really didn’t think I was going to forget you.. Noooo. Never. I love talking to you and I love your posts / live blogs. You dragged me kicking and screaming into Jimmy Havoc and I love you for it. You’ve also gotten me into music that I hadn’t ever heard before too. Never change, bb! I’m so glad we’re friends.
@calwitch MOM HI! I love you. And I will totally let you adopt me. You’re kinda stuck with me now. I love your posts and you never fail to encourage me when I need it most. You’re a sweet person and totally down to earth and open. Some of your comments on my fic posts have given me that little nudge when I needed it most and I can’t thank you enough for that. You’re an awesome and fun person and I love that you don’t hold back on anything. I’m so glad we’re friends.
@markostuntthesehoes I absolutely adore you and I love your writing. I love our talks, the things we’ve bounced back and forth over DM’s. You’ve gotten me to really appreciate people that I wasn’t sure about before talking to you. Your posts always make me smile and you’re an absolute gem. I’m so glad we’re friends.
"He might as well have pounced on you," Patrick said, eyes on the screen of his switch. "That look in his eyes… no wonder you're in so deep."
Annalise ignored him as her King Boo threw a red shell at his Dry Bones. That was her response to his statement. Still, her cheeks went hot and red recalling the way Shawn stared her down the other night. It was practically a reflex when it comes to that guy. It didn't really help that he was literally a few yards away.
The stars had a very irritating way of aligning when Annalise and Shawn were supposed to be separated. The one time Annalise decided to hang out with a friend outside of a classroom just so happened to be the same time Shawn did the exact same thing. Not to mention, he was having another impromptu jam session with Alessia, both sat on a picnic table out in the sun. It was the same table as the one from a few nights ago, but there were more people surrounding them. Oh, and Shawn was wearing a particularly tight black tanktop, so if Annalise stared enough his way she would be able to make out the pretty tattoo on the back of his arm.
She and Patrick were sitting under the shade of the biggest tree on the courtyard, wanting to be outside, but definitely not basking in the rare sunlight. Patrick won the Mario Kart race despite Annalise's best efforts. Blame the distraction who was playing guitar and singing audibly.
"Ooo, second place, Flowers," Patrick smugly said. "You've lost your edge."
"Oh, shut up. Let's smash now," Annalise said back, closing the current game.
"Really? In front of your mans?"
She looked up at him and narrowed her eyes. "Shut the fuck up."
They had that type of banter… before Annalise was in a relationship. Before everything else. Annalise was just too flustered and distracted by Mr. Arm Muscles to join in, so she annihilated Patrick at Smash Bros for three rounds.
~
There was a check in every two weeks. There was only one before the semester started, and it was very quick given that Annalise and Shawn were still living under the same roof. Now that there had been some proper physical separation, it was time to do things right. Annalise still had knot after knot forming in her stomach, though. For a split second, her mind went back to diverticulitis and flashbacks of being rolled around on a gurney invaded her mind. She shook it off and marched through the parking lot.
She agreed to meet at Shawn's apartment because the semester starting meant that holes were being burnt in their wallets. They couldn't afford a simple coffee shop hang out, and it was too public for something like this, anyway.
Annalise thought it would have been too awkward for any kind of touch when Shawn answered the door. However, he immediately took her in his arms and hugged her as tight as he could. It was already very different from their last check in.
To be blunt, she really fucking missed being held in his arms. She wrapped her arms around his middle, feeling the warmth consume her whole body. She missed this so much she could cry, but she had to mask it all. Couldn't have Shawn thinking she was having second thoughts about her decision.
Shawn wasn't one to hold back, though. He leaned back and held her hands as he led her inside his place. "I missed you so much. I miss coming home to you."
Annalise didn't know what to say. Shawn's facial features were soft and completely kissable, but she resisted by letting herself into the living room. Not much had changed here in the two weeks she was gone, although she did miss playing her Switch on that huge flat screen. She was still quiet though, and it gave Shawn more room to speak.
"See, this is still like a home to you! Oh, and I still have your key, since you left it here… uh, where did I put it?"
"Shawn," she finally said before he could dash into another room and create more distractions. She nodded towards the couch so he could sit with her.
He looked at her, and his face fell a little. His shoulders hunched as he walked around to the couch. He sat next to her and looked down at his lap.
Annalise tilted her head. "You okay?"
Shawn met her eyes, bemused. "You're breaking up with me, aren't you?"
"Wha- no!" she replied, shocked.
"So we're getting back together?"
"No…"
"Annie…"
"Don't call me that," she said seriously. Then she sighed. "We're checking in. I just wanna see how you're doing."
He shrugged and leaned back, far more relaxed now. "I'm still confused as to why we're doing this. That's all I've been trying to figure out lately."
"Okay, anyway… how are your classes? How's work."
"Annalise, I swear to god…" Shawn groaned, tilting his head back. Then he looked her dead in the eyes and leaned forward. "Do you wanna break up? You moved out-"
"Because I have a dorm."
"-and you left your key behind!"
"Because I don't live here."
Shawn paused, and his expression went from aggravated to just plain sad. "You won't even answer my texts. And don't say it's because you're busy. I know that's not true."
Whatever sympathy was building up was gone. Annalise narrowed her eyes. "What does that mean?"
"You think I haven't seen you playing games with that guy in the courtyard?" he asked. "You've never wanted to sit outside with me. And now you suddenly don't have time to answer my texts. C'mon Ann, I'm not an idiot."
She pushed her tongue into her cheek as she listened to that shit. Then, she spoke coldly. "First of all, that guy is Patrick and he's only a friend. Second, I don't know what to say to someone who only says 'I miss you' every ten seconds."
"So you don't miss me at all?"
"That's not the point!"
"Then what is the fucking point?" Shawn got to his feet, completely exasperated. "What exactly are we doing here? Because I don't know what's happening anymore! Am I losing you? Are you gonna come back to me? What the fuck is happening here, Ann?"
She buried her face in her hands for a moment and took a deep breath. She did know just how much Shawn did not like the separation idea, but she hadn't realized just how shaken up he still was.
"I want you to make sure you have your priorities in check."
"What, like I'm some stupid teenager?" Shawn snapped.
Clearly, he was irrational. Annalise wasn't going to try to force him to see it her way, it didn't work when the separation idea was first brought up over a month ago. Sighing, she got up and silently went for the door.
"Ann, honey," Shawn called, following after her. "Wait, wait!" He grabbed her wrist and pulled her into him.
She faced him once again, giving him a look as she yanked her arm back.
"I'm sorry," he told her in a much calmer tone. "Explain it to me again."
"I just don't wanna see you lose your focus for other things," Annalise said. "We really went through it over the summer, remember? I don't wanna be the only thing you worry about."
"Well, I know you're strong, little fighter. But I love you too much to not worry. And I worry even more now that we're on this stupid separation thing."
Annalise kept herself from laughing. "You seem fine during your impromptu mini concerts on the courtyard."
"Yeah, because singing is the other love of my life."
"Mm, you seem comfy with that Alessia girl too."
Shawn raised his eyebrows, now amused. "Jealous?"
Now she had to laugh. "I could ask you the same thing."
"I never knew about Patrick until last week."
"You never asked." Besides, she may have left her other friends in the dark when she got into this relationship. More reasons for the separation. "And I never knew about Alessia."
"Because she's new. You sure you're not jealous?" Shawn asked with a smirk.
Annalise scoffed. "I don't get jealous."
"You told me you don't cry either, but uh…"
Oof. He knows her too well.
She smiled stiffly. "I'll see you again in two weeks."
"You don't have to. You can stay." Shawn placed his hands on her shoulders. "Stay."
"Separation is good," Annalise told him, cupping his face and loving the way he leaned into the touch. "We can't spend every minute together, I think this last summer proved that."
Shawn stared her down for a moment, his big hand moving to hold her wrist. He really tried to understand why all this was happening. He really tried to find other reasons besides the scary idea that his girl wanted to leave him. The priorities thing, the not losing focus thing, the fact that they spent too much time together over the summer… it really smelled like bullshit. Maybe she was slipping through his fingers, and maybe he had to fight before she was completely gone.
"Can I at least kiss you before you go?" he asked, his voice small and soft.
Over the last month, Annalise thought she had done well with keeping a distance and being on her own. She was regaining her own compromised independence and getting back to being a strong lady. She was good at convincing herself that she didn't need Shawn at her side all the time.
Turns out, she's just a giant sucker.
Annalise really should have known better than to do the check in here. It was way too private, too much room for certain things to happen. Shawn kissed her softly once and was about to pull back, but her hands went to the back of his neck and kept their lips together. Without missing a beat, he walked her backwards and trapped her between his body and the wall. His hands planted on either side of her head, practically towering over her as his tongue went into her mouth.
All logic and inhibitions went out the door in less than a second. It was like they were reuniting after being on opposite ends of the planet. It was like this was the last time they would ever get a moment like this again. Annalise slid her hands down his torso, feeling the heat of his body through his white tee. When she locked her arms around his shoulders, Shawn bent a little to grab the backs of her thighs and hook them around his hips. It didn’t take long for Annalise to groan into his mouth when he circled his hips into hers. It certainly didn’t take long for Shawn to get hard in his jeans either. Without breaking the kiss, he walked them both into his bedroom and kicked the door closed behind him.
It was a mess of wrinkling bed sheets and clothes flying to the floor. Annalise's ripped leggings and Shawn's t-shirt made it off their bodies, and then he grabbed her shoulder and roughly pushed her onto her back. Both of their hearts pounded as he crawled on top of her and attached their lips together again.
They didn't even make it to the pillows. Shawn was trailing wet kisses along her neck, his fingers hooking into her cotton underwear. In one swift motion, he pulled the measly fabric down her legs. There wasn't any room for slow, sensual touching and building each other up. They were already as stressed and needy as could be. Annalise was just aching for him between her legs, and she pulled on his waist to bring him closer, her stomach flipping at the heat on his skin.
Suddenly, Shawn paused and held himself up on his elbows. His lips were shiny, swollen, and absolutely gorgeous. Annalise couldn't help but trace the bottom one with her thumb. Then, their eyes met and it threatened to spoil the heat of the moment. Shawn's eyes were soft and sparkling, the rough neediness gone out of nowhere. He usually had that look when things would move slower, when he was about to bare his soul and spill a bunch of sweet nothings. He looked at her face and gently stroked her cheek, making her skin tingle so much she wanted to scratch it away.
"My beautiful girl," he said softly.
It was sweet, but Annalise did not want sweet at the moment. Her fingers went into his hair and gently tugged at the pretty locks, keeping a sultry eye on him.
"Fuck me."
A smirk tugged at the corner of Shawn's mouth before he leaned down to kiss her again. "Condom?"
She nodded and then proceeded to take off her lace cardigan while he went to the nightstand drawer. Her hands trembled as she dropped more of her clothes onto the floor, leaving her completely naked. She rolled onto her front, watching Shawn pull off his jeans and briefs in one go. Her mouth watered just from the sight of his naked body, and she wiggled her eyebrows at him.
Shawn looked into her brown eyes, licking his lips. His eyes trailed over her back and plump ass, his cock twitching at the thought of taking her that way. But he hasn't been with her intimately in far too long, and he needed to be able to hold her and see her face. Yes, it's cheesy as fuck but that's what happens when you're stupidly in love with the goth chick. Yes, Shawn was very stupidly in love with Annalise.
He circled his finger with a cocky smirk, signaling her to turn onto her back. When she obliged, he crawled on top of her with the intention of fully warming her up and building up her high, but the way she kissed him and wrapped her legs around his waist indicated that she was ready. The way that she whispered in between kisses for him to fill her up was also a good indicator as well.
"Whatever you want, baby," he told her as he grabbed his base and slowly inserted himself.
It didn't take long for her soft, sweet panting to fill the room. Her fingernails dug into Shawn's back, and he snaked his arm around her shoulders, holding her as close as he could. Their noses touched and his necklace dangled in the valley of her breasts, it felt familiar and good in a way. Resting his head in the crook of her neck, Shawn let out a slow deep breath and appreciated the feeling of their bodies connecting. Slowly but surely, he started to gently rock his hips against hers, wanting this to last.
Ann whined in the back of her throat, raking her fingers down his back. "Harder… Mmm, ruin me."
Shawn picked his head up and looked down at her. She was biting her lip, and pressing down on his back, wanting him the way she said. And who was he to deny her?
With a deep breath, he picked himself up on his knees and held her waist, pistoning his hips as quickly as he could. A groan sounded from deep in his chest, his eyes fluttering shut. He breathed out a soft "fuck" feeling her clench around him.
"Mm, fuck yes!" Ann cried out, grabbing at the sheets above her. "Oh, fuck, fuck me!"
The bed creaked and hit the wall repeatedly, mixing in with the sounds the two of them were making. Shawn couldn't help but feel smug as he watched Ann's assertive and bold demeanor crumble underneath him. Only times like these did he see her fall completely at his mercy, and god, it turned him on so much. He absolutely loved that he could bring her down to this level, make her feel so good she was rendered incoherent. He slid his hand up her body, stopping for a moment to grab her breast. Then, Ann took hold of his wrist, her eyes wide and her bottom lip jutting out. They both knew what to do. Shawn leaned over her again to properly wrap his fist around her neck.
"Like that, baby?" he asked between huffs of breath, trying to keep his movements consistent. "You like it when I fucking choke you? You like getting fucked like this, you dirty fucking girl?"
Ann mumbled and sputtered under his hold, attempting to nod her head.
"What about this?" he egged on, moving his free hand down in between them. He rubbed quick circles into her clit, causing her to clench around him even more. "Ooh, fuck. Yeah, you like that, you fucking love that."
Her mouth was open, but no sound came out. Shawn decided he liked it better when she was verbal about how he made her feel, so he moved his hand from her neck to the side of her face. Something of a snarl came out of him as he staggered his thrusts, and he found himself grabbing her chin, slightly squishing her cheeks. His nose touched hers, hot breath on her lips before he tasted her tongue. His fingers were relentless on her clit, the feeling so good he almost wanted to go down there and suck it into his mouth until she was writhing.
The sounds coming out of her were just as good, though. She spoke, sounding absolutely wrecked and just the way Shawn liked her to be. “Don’t stop… please don’t stop…”
“Mm, anything you want, baby…” he mumbled against the corner of her mouth.
It was almost ironic because Ann was the one on her back getting fucked senseless, but Shawn was ready to do anything for her. All she had to do was ask. Who was more submissive here?
He hovered over her, watching her tits bounce as he pounded into her. He watched the hair at the top of her head get messier and messier with every move. He really had to admire the fact that her intense winged liner had stayed intact this entire time. Only his Ann…
"Fuck, you look so good like this," Shawn mumbled, brows knitted. He couldn't stop himself from rambling, now feeling as fucked as she did. "God baby, you're so fucking good at taking my cock… You're so good to me… Fuck…"
Ann moved her small hands up his chest, wrapping the chain of his necklace around her finger. The look on her face changed from absolutely wrecked to something more serious. Her free hand tugged at the hair on the nape of his neck, and then she was tilting her head back and panting wildly.
"I'm close," she warned, squeezing her eyes shut. "Don't stop, I'm gonna come!"
Shawn could feel it too, and his heart nearly fell out of his body. He felt the heavenly pulses around his cock and rubbed at her clit just to make it feel that much better for her. "Fuck yeah, give it to me honey…"
She let out a noise that was both the cutest and sexiest thing he's ever heard. Her voice went up several octaves as she cried out, and her entire body twitched the way Shawn liked to see it. He growled through his teeth, thriving in the tight pulsing around his cock and the burning scratch marks on his back and shoulders. He thrust as hard as he could, needing to reach his own high now that Ann had hers. Roughly, he moved her wrists from his shoulders and pinned them above her head, his jaw going slack as he let himself go. Steady pulses of cum spilled into the condom, and Shawn tilted his head back, his orgasm so good and sweet he couldn't make any sound. He only panted and erratically gave a few more thrusts until he was spent.
Sweat coated both of their bodies, and their heavy breathing was the only sound in the air. Shawn pulled out and rolled onto his back, his eyelids heavy and body melting into the mattress. He smiled contently and then tapped Ann's wrist.
"C'mere..."
The two of them crawled up to the pillows and went under the covers, both so sleepy and content that they didn't care about the damp spot. Shawn held onto Ann's hand, waiting for her to desperately crawl into her arms. She was always shamelessly in need of cuddles and affection post orgasm, and Shawn loved every bit of it because it meant he could hold her and nose at her hair as she slept. What he couldn't put into words was put into all the chaste little touches he gave her. And she lapped it up and let herself be touched and loved every time without fail.
Shawn fell asleep before he could realize Ann was holding herself back.
~
It doesn't matter if it's the same night or the morning after, the walk was still shameful no matter what. Annalise was just glad that Shawn fell asleep on his side of the bed and not on her chest like he typically did. It was much easier for her to slip out of bed, put her clothes back on, and sneak out of the apartment. The knots in her stomach didn't let up once she was in the car, though. They did agree that this was a check in after all, and she could honestly say... dick still bomb.
Annalise got back to campus well after ten o'clock. It wasn't that late, but she still felt off, like she was sneaking back into her parents' house after going to a party she was told not to attend. She felt both thrilled and terrified that she did something very wrong, and the evidence was all there in her shaky legs.
Of course, Stella was sitting in the armchair facing the door when Annalise finally made it back. She wasn't alone, though. Camila was on the tiny sofa, and she perked up.
"Hey, girl," she greeted with a cheeky grin.
Stella had a knowing smile on her face, making Annalise feel very exposed. As much as she tried to fix her sexed up appearance in the car, it was easy to tell what Annalise had been up to from the amount of time she was gone.
"So, is Shawnnalise back on?" Stella asked in a teasing voice.
"They were off?" Camila asked in shock, looking back and forth between the two girls.
"That is the actual worst name I've ever heard," Annalise replied, and then her heart stopped as her phone buzzed in her hand. Without another word, she dashed into her bedroom.
"You owe me details!" Stella called after her.
Annalise didn't say anything as she shut the door and leaned against it for a moment. She sighed and let her book bag drop onto the floor, and then she bent down to untie her platform sneakers and took them off. Her phone buzzed again, and it made her insides heavy.
Honestly, she had enough guilt on her shoulders. Did she really have to add more to her plate by tapping that ass and running away? Heart in her throat, Annalise looked at the notifications.
The newest text was from the gaming club group chat. Patrick was asking when everyone was available to go to Bart. The nerves came down for a split second before reading the other text.
"Where are you?"
Annalise opened the text too, so she definitely couldn't just ignore him. She sent back some excuse about having an assignment due at midnight, and then she let the anxiety and guilt consume her for the rest of the night.
Reckless Abandon
Pairing: Jeongguk x Reader
Genre: angst mostly, a teeny bit of fluff, overwatch au, one shot + epilogue
Warnings: hella geeky with a touch of violence
Word Count: 3,976
Description: Jeongguk is Busan’s pride and joy. He protects the city from all enemies; omnic and talon alike. His face is plastered on every billboard and every street corner. You can’t even drink a can of soda without feeling like he’s watching you. The glitz and glamour he receives is endlessly irritating to you, his mechanic. When will he wake up and see that there's more important things than fame?
Author’s Note: D.va’s animated short had me feeling some type of way. So this is pretty much based off of that. Thanks, Blizzard. If only they’d make a kpop idol D.va skin. Only then will all my dreams have come true. This is my second attempt at truly writing a fic so bare with me.
“Former ESports Champion turned meka pilot, Jeon Jeongguk has done it again! Just last week he risked his life to save Busan from the Keishun ominics. At just 20 years old, he’s become South Korea’s star in the line of defense. Quick to respond to the surprise attack, Jeon and the meka squad were -”
You click off the holovideo with a roll of your eyes and pick up a clean rag to wipe of your greasy face. Rummaging through your tools, you scoff at the latest headlines. Here you are fixing up his mech from the previous week’s battle. He’s all but killed your poor baby, Bunny. The name is lame, you know and Jeongguk reminds you often. Watching how the mech bounces through the battlefields, you feel the name suits her well. So, you’ve lovingly named her Bunny. You nearly took off his head when he brought her back for repairs. The right fusion cannon had been entirely blown off, meaning you had to build a new one from scratch.
Did he care that building that cannon had caused you two sleepless nights? You doubt he’d care much if he knew. He’d probably say “Suck it up, buttercup. The enemy waits for no one.” So you grabbed your wrench and you sucked it up. As much as you hate to say it, the city does depend on him. Hell, the country kind of depends on him. It seems like too much for any one person.
You sigh and hoist yourself inside the mech to finish repairing the inside control panel. You and Jeongguk have been friends for as long as you can remember. It’s funny how you were once modifying his hoverboard when you were kids and now you’re fixing his mech as he comes home from yet another battle. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t worried about him. The boy, who was once carefree and blithe, now shoulders the responsibility of protecting an entire nation. You don’t know how he does it and honestly, you wish he didn’t have to.
Jeongguk taps on the thick glass of Bunny’s windshield. You were so immersed in the control panel, you didn’t hear him come in. Why is he here? You furrowed your brows at him as you opened the back hatch of the mech.
“What are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be out taking pictures with your fans or something?” You say, sounding a little more bitter than you had intended.
He sighs, “Don’t be like that, y/n. The fame thing is annoying and overrated. I’ve told you a thousand times.”
“Whatever. Really though, I told you I’d call you when I’m done with repairs and updates. She’s nowhere near ready. I need at least another week.”
“Another week?” he whines, “I don’t wanna wait anymore.”
You roll your eyes in annoyance and move to get out of the mech. He holds out his hand as an offer to help you down and you take it. “Guk, what’s the rush? The Keishun probably won’t attack for at least another couple of months. You really need a break,”
“You know I can’t take a break. We barely won last time. The enemy is out there evolving and finding ways to become stronger. I have to stay a few steps ahead of them. My squad, this city, the country… They need me at my best. We can’t afford to lose. If I lose, than we lose everything. I’m not going to risk that.”
“Stopping putting all of this on yourself. Asking for help doesn’t make you weak. You’re only human, Jeon.”
He shrugs and says, “I know. I’ve got this.”
You know he’s not listening to what you’re saying. You sigh and give up on scolding him. It’s an old fight, you know it will come up again. He’s always worried about everyone else and never himself. It makes you so angry you could scream, but you won’t. Having been his friend for so long, you should probably learn to accept his fearless martyr attitude. But why should you have to accept it? It’s entirely unfair. While he’s off worrying about the rest of the world, someone needs to worry about him.
You turn your back to him and grab the large cable laying on the ground. You plug it into the main computer that programs the mech. You need to push this matter aside and focus on running program tests for Bunny.
“Can you please get in the mech and see if the right arm has decent mobility?” You say gently, without looking at him. You know that if you look at him right now, you might cry out of frustration and that will upset him. He has enough on his plate without worrying about you too.
“Alright.”
Once you hear the closing clicks from the back hatch of the mech, you allow yourself to turn around. The mech immediately comes to life around him and he’s fully focused on the task at hand. He does as you say and moves the right arm through a full range of motions. Somehow, he looks the most natural inside the mech. You can’t explain it.
Maybe it’s because you’re so used to seeing him in the mech. Somehow, it’s almost like Bunny has become a part of him. Maybe it’s the fluid way he pilots the mech. There’s never a hiccup or pause between his thoughts and the mech’s movements. He’s really an incredible pilot, you must admit. He never fails to leave you in awe. You’d never tell him this though. His ego is already much too big for your liking.
“She’s moving better than ever. The arm even feels lighter! How’d you do it?” He turns the mech towards you, excitement radiating through his smile. You can’t help but grin back, feeling your chest swell with pride. He did recognize your hard work.
“I’m glad you’ve noticed. I wanted to experiment with using carbon fiber material instead of the steel we have been using. It’s much lighter, but just as strong. We’ll see how this one holds up in battle and then I might replace the left cannon with the same material.”
He ejects himself from the mech to closer inspect the fusion cannon. Running his fingers along the bright green paint, he turns to you with a grin.
“This is fucking incredible, y/n. Do you know how much faster I can move? Imagine a whole meka made of this stuff. We’d be lethal!”
You laugh, “You already are lethal, but yeah. That’s the end goal. Even with just the cannons replaced, it’ll tone down the overall bulk of the mech. I’ve also been working on ways to narrow down the spread of the cannons so you can be more precise with your aim.”
“You really are brilliant, you know that?”
You smirked, “Obviously. You’d be screwed without me.”
“Honestly, I would be.”
You move around him and climb back into the mech. “Okay. Enough of the sappy shit, Jeon. Bunny and I have tests to finish running.”
“I can help, you know. It is my mech after all.”
You open your mouth to argue, but something on the computer monitor caught your eye. That can’t be right… An incoming enemy? You get out of the mech, scrambling to get a better look. The monitor flashes blood red and you can hear the shrill city sirens go off, signaling for the people of Busan to take cover. Four aircrafts are making their way towards the meka base.
“No, no, no. It’s too early. They attacked just last week. How do they have more omnics ready?”
Jeongguk had already pulled the heavy cable from Bunny and locked himself inside. His headset was on and he began checking each system to prepare for take off.
“Guk, no! Y-you're not ready. I’ll call the rest of the team. You have to sit this one out!” You say firmly, stepping in front of Bunny.
“We can’t wait for backup, y/n. The omnics will be in the city by then. I can’t let that happen. I’m going.” He looks at you fiercely and from that one look you know that you’ll never be able to talk him out of it. You feel your heart break as you step aside for him take off.
Soundlessly, you sit down at the monitor and slip on your headset. If he’s going to be an idiot and charge into battle, than you’re going to be there to talk him through it. There’s no way in hell you’re going to just sit on the sidelines and watch him get hurt. You quickly pull the radar onto the screen to find the direction the Keishun are heading.
“It looks like they’re heading north, towards Suyeong-gu.” Your voice cracks slightly as you say this.
If he recognized the hesitance in your words, he didn’t show it. “I’m on it. Boosters engaged!” He calls.
Without even a glance, he takes off from the meka base and toward the Keishun. You kept telling yourself not to cry. You have to stay focused right now, you don’t have time to cry. You pulled the mech’s dash camera on to the screen, this way you could see exactly what he sees. You also pulled up a screen from the mecha hud, in order to monitor Jeongguk’s vitals.
You watched as he soared through the sky. The enemy’s small dots on the radar grew closer and closer to Bunny’s. The aircrafts took form before the camera on the dash. They’re much smaller than you had expected, about half the size of a jet. However, you knew better than anyone not to dismiss the omnic based on the size of the aircraft. The body of the craft is flat and triangular with four cord like appendages spinning behind it. As stupid as it sounds, it reminds you a little of a mechanical squid.
The omnics spot Jeongguk immediately and aim a barrage of missiles toward him. The missiles streak through the sky at an unforgiving speed, but Jeongguk was a step ahead.
“Activating Defense Matrix.” You hear his voice through your headset, tone calm and even.
The missiles soar into the matrix and explode meters away from their obvious target. Jeongguk gave them no time to react before flying into an attack of his own. He wove through the sky and aimed his micro missiles at the nearest omnic, effectively removing it from the battle. The remaining three went separate ways; One retreating, one racing towards the meka base, and the last flew straight towards the city.
“Watch it, Guk! They’re splitting up.” You warn, voice tense.
“I see it!” He calls as he races toward the omnic retreating.
You don’t care what Jeongguk said, you’re calling Jimin for backup. You quickly type in the code to have the meka base system send for help. You pray Jimin will make it there in time.
Bunny caught up to the enemy in mere seconds. Jeongguk flew above the omnic and shot it down from above. ‘Two down, two to go.’, you thought. Maybe you shouldn’t have signaled for Jimin to come. Just as you thought that, the Keishun omnic that was headed toward the base flipped around and headed straight for Bunny.
“Jeongguk! Behind you!” You cry, feeling your heart jump into your throat..
Caught of guard, he turned Bunny around just to be thrown in the midst of the enemy’s missile attack. He didn’t have enough time to activate his Defense Matrix, he’d have to try and dodge the oncoming missiles. He swerved sharply to the right, but he wasn’t fast enough to save Bunny’s left arm.
“Dammit.” He growled through clenched teeth. He aims for the Keishun using only his right fusion cannon. His bullets caught the enemy’s craft and the omnic fell from the sky.
“Y/n. Where’s the last one?”
“He’s headed toward the city. You’ll have to hurry.”
Jeongguk whipped the mech towards the city and sped off, pushing Bunny as fast as she could go. You could hear his bated breaths through the headset and his pleas for Bunny to make it there in time. Your chest felt tight and you thought you were going to puke. You gripped the desk fiercely, knuckles white, in a desperate attempt to ground yourself.
With the last omnic in sight, Bunny unleashed an array of missiles and bullets toward the enemy. You’ve never seen Jeongguk miss a shot, never, but this time he missed. Something definitely feels off. You check Bunny’s hud for Jeongguk’s vitals and run a quick damage report on Bunny. Jeongguk is fine, but he had pushed Bunny too hard. Her boosters are beginning to fail, which is causing the mech to drag.
“Guk, Jimin should be on-” The remaining omnic took you both by surprise. It turns it’s aim from the city and races toward Guk’s mech. He raises Bunny’s right fusion cannon to aim, but it’s too late. The omnic slams into Bunny and wraps it’s four tentacle-like arms around them. Jeongguk tries to aim the right fusion cannon towards the omnic, but the omnic was too strong and snapped the mech’s arm clean off. The Keishun was trying to crush the mech.
“Y/n. I need your help. I need you to override Bunny’s system.” His voice is calm and sure. If he’s afraid, you can’t tell.
“I-I can’t. You know that will cause her to self destruct.” You say. You didn’t realize you’ve been crying until you heard your voice crack. Dammit. This isn’t the time. You will yourself to pull it together.
“I’ll be fine, y/n. Trust me.” He tells you softly. To your right, you can see Jimin’s meka on the landing strip getting ready for take off. You quickly send Bunny’s coordinated to Jimin’s meka. He will be there soon. You just need to buy him a little time.
“I need you to buy me a few minutes to override the system. Can you do that, Jeon?” You’re lying through your teeth. You know each program on that mech like the back of your hand. You could do it in seconds, but he doesn’t need to know that.
“Hell yeah, I can.”
He uses what’s left of Bunny’s left arm to swing at the omnic. You hear the sharp sound of crunching metal as he lands the hit. He grabs his hand-held blaster from beside him, sticks his arm underneath Bunny’s windshield and fires at the omnics lower left arm. The metallic tentacle falls dead weight. Out of the corner of your eye, you watch Jimin’s mech take flight toward the city. So you begin to override the system.
“Alright, I’ve got it. You have sixty seconds until Bunny self destructs. Jimin will be there to catch you.”
“That’s not fast enough! We’ll be in the city by then. It’s gotta be now.” He says. You can hear the distinct clicks of the back hatch opening. You know exactly what he’s planning and your eyes widen with panic.
“Jeongguk, don’t you fucking dare.” You cry, vision blurring.
“I’ll be alright, y/n. I’ll see you soon, okay?” He didn’t give you any time to answer. He ejects himself from the mech, uses his blaster to take careful aim at Bunny’s core and fires.
You run to the window in time to see a green light flash across the sky. You know somewhere Jeongguk has fallen into the water bellow.
_____________________________________
Jeongguk can only remember small fragments of events after the initial blast. He remembers briefly fighting against the water with his lungs burning and his legs heavy. He remembers a bright light shining down on him and people shouting as the waves lapped against his listless aching body. He remembers your warm hand grasping his as he was being wheeled along under fluorescent lights. He could here your pleas for him to hold on. He wished he weren’t so tired. He wished he could squeeze your hand back and tell you he was alright.
The lights were bright and they make his eyes ache. He wishes someone would turn them off, or at least dim them. Jeongguk turns his head to the side and finds you curled up in a chair, staring out the window. He wonders what you’re thinking about. He swallows harshly, lips and throat feeling dry.
“Hey.” You hear him say, voice hoarse and tired.
You reply with a soft ‘Hi’, attention still on the street bellow. You feel exhausted. You haven’t been able to sleep since he’s been in the hospital. The doctors have offered you a bed and pills to help you fall asleep, but you don’t want them. You wanted to be here when he woke up. Now, you’re really not sure why. You’d cried all day yesterday, how do you still have anything left?
Nonetheless, you felt tears spill down your cheeks. You really don’t want him to see you cry. He hates it when you cry.
“How long have I been out?” He asks, wincing as he moved to sit up. His arms and back are still so sore. He wonders how far he fell.
“Two days, not too long.” Your voice is barely above a whisper.
“Are you crying? God, please don’t cry. You have the ugliest crying face.” He teases you, hoping to ease the tension surrounding the room.
You turn toward him feeling absolutely furious. Standing up, you march to his bedside and deliver a sharp smack to the back of his head.
“Ow, what the hell is the matter with you?” He rubs his head glaring at you.
“What the hell is the matter with YOU? Do you know what it’s been like fucking waiting here while you were in surgery? While you’ve been sleeping? This whole thing could have been prevented if you’d just let someone help you, but God forbid you let someone else steal your fucking spotlight. You run headfirst into these life or death situations without thinking of the consequences and I’m fucking sick of it. I never should’ve let you go out there alone. I should’ve locked Bunny down and made your dumbass wait for backup. Never again, Jeongguk. I swear. I’ll never let anything like this happen again…” Your eyes are brimmed with tears and burning with a kind of anger Jeongguk has never seen from you.
“Do you really think I did all that for a headline or two?” He sounded sincerely hurt and you almost felt bad for implying that.
“I don’t know, Jeongguk. I can’t figure out if you’re extremely selfish or just stupidly selfless. All I know is that I can’t watch you kill yourself.”
“I'm not gonna die, y/n. Jesus. Will you please-”
“I love you too much for that. I….I don’t think I can be your mechanic anymore.” You cut him off, tone much softer than before. You’ve been thinking about this for weeks now and you wish it hadn’t come down to this, but it feels like it has too. You can’t watch him destroy himself with his reckless decisions.
“Y/n…..I can’t do this without you. This isn’t about fame, it never has been. I just want to protect this country and everyone I love. I’ll admit, I should have waited for backup. I pushed Bunny to hard and I destroyed her. I did it to protect everyone, not for the fame. Please, I need you there…” Ignoring the plea of his body to stay resting, he leaned forward and took your hand.
You couldn’t look at him right now because you know you’d give him anything he wanted if you did. You muffled a sob with your other hand. Why does he have to make this so difficult for you?
He tugged you closer to him with a grimace and you didn’t put up a fight. You know you should have, but you couldn’t. Not when you heard the break in his voice as he whispered ‘come here’. He pulled you close and felt the sobs you had been fighting rake through your body. He tried to swallow the lump in his throat and held you as close he possibly could.
“I know I’m reckless. I know I don’t think things through like I should, but I can try to be more careful. I'll take a break even. I just…. I didn’t know it upset you so much. Please, y/n. Just stay.”
“I'm sorry, Jeongguk. I-I'm so sorry.”
You tried to pull away, but he just held you even tighter. You felt his tears soak through the shoulder of your shirt. Why are you so weak? Your mind was screaming at you to get up and leave, but you just couldn't. Not with him choking out hysterical apologies and clinging to you the way he is. The dam was broken now and every little emotion that he had held back was hitting him full force. You couldn’t leave him like this. Your resolve was crumbling fast, but it didn’t matter anymore.
You laid down next to him and he clung to you. You ran your fingers through his hair while he cried. His shaky breath began to slow down and you knew he was falling asleep. You let your mind wonder.
Maybe, you could stay. Maybe, he meant what he said and he just didn’t know how seriously this affected you and those around him. Maybe, you’re just thinking too hopefully. Maybe, you’re just exhausted and incapable of making any kind of decisions right now.
“I love you, Guk.” you whispered to him. You doubt he heard it.
Your eyes felt too heavy to keep open and you let yourself finally drift into sleep.
You were gone when he woke up. He should've been able to predict that, but it still stung. He'd hoped that maybe you would change your mind, as selfish as that sounds. Maybe he should listen to you. He’s been in battles much worse, but this time around even he couldn't deny that he had taken it too far.
Did he really expect to be able to live a long and healthy life like this? You're right and he knew it. It's just hard to understand the reality of the situation. He needed to make some changes. It seemed dramatic when you said it, but it's true. He's killing himself and he can't keep it up anymore.
He tapped the button to call the nurses in. His head was pounding and he wasn't sure if it was the injuries or the thoughts swirling around his skull. He wandered where his phone was, if someone would bring it to him. He's ready to give up piloting mekas for good if that's what it took to keep you there. None of it really mattered if you weren't by his side. He loves you and it’s time for him to tell you.
5. “My mundane life needs some spice. Wanna become a villain?” For Sasusaku :D
Title: Count Me in
Prompt: “My mundane life needs some spice. Wanna become a villain?”
Rating: T
Genre: Humor / Romance
A/N: Part of my Partners in Crime AU. Oh my god, they were enemy agents.
They’re in their early 20s here.
—
Naruto dove on the bed, stomach first. He buried his face on the plush pillow and whined, “Temeeee I’m so booored! How long do we have to wait heeeere?”
Sasuke shifted on the bed and pulled his laptop closer. “Tch. Stop being so annoying, Naruto. It’s only been two days.”
“Two days!” Naruto lifted his head to look at Sasuke and complained further, “So what if a bunch of bastards are after us? We can take them! Can’t we just leave already?”
“Tch.” Sasuke rolled his eyes and trained his gaze on the screen. He hasn’t heard anything from Kakashi yet regarding where their pickup point would be. He was far calmer than Naruto was, but even he was getting a little restless.
Their assignment was supposed to be quick, and easy. Right when he and Naruto were getting ready to infiltrate the base, they received a message from Kakashi to abort, as they were already being expected. True enough, the two of them were chased away by two women.
They wore masks, similar to what Kakashi usually wore, but their eyes were on full display. Sasuke couldn’t shake off his close encounter with the girl with pink hair and emerald eyes. He would have thought she was serious and fully concentrated on their fight, but her eyes were dancing with amusement and challenge. She was good. Her movements were clean, graceful, and precise. Not as good as him, but it was enough to make Sasuke take the girl seriously.
Naruto also had a hard time fighting off the other girl. She had blue eyes and long, blond hair swept up neatly in a ponytail. The both of them were no doubt partners, and have been trained together. Their teamwork was impeccable, all their movements in sync.
Not as good as he and Naruto’s teamwork, though. Even if Sasuke found Naruto annoying, he was good. Naruto’s fighting style wasn’t nearly as clean or precise as his, but that idiot never gave up, and it was that determination which helped them get out of the sticky situation they were in two days ago.
Sasuke was looking at the screen, but he couldn’t forget about that girl. Her emerald eyes were on fire, yet there was an unmistakable kindness in them. It wasn’t something he often saw in an assassin’s gaze.
“Oy, Teme, are you still thinking about her?”
Sasuke tore his gaze from the screen to meet Naruto’s. “No,” he responded flatly.
Naruto squinted his eyes and pouted, “I know you make for a good asshole, but you’re not a good liar.”
“Tch.”
He laughed. “You’re so thinking about her. Can’t blame you, she was hot.”
“You couldn’t even see her face.”
Naruto shrugged. “Don’t need to to know she was hot. The blond was hot, too, ya know?”
Sasuke rolled his eyes.
“Hey, you think we can switch sides? I wouldn’t mind if they’re the people we get to work with.” Naruto grinned cheekily.
In a flash, Sasuke threw a pillow at Naruto’s face. “You idiot, that’s treason.”
Naruto harrumphed and shifted on his back. He stared at the ceiling and muttered, “I wish something entertaining would happen.”
“Wish granted.”
Sasuke and Naruto were instantly on their feet. Sasuke took on a fighting stance. The moment he saw who their opponents were, he swallowed.
In front of him stood two girls. It was them. This time, no masks.
Sasuke took a deep breath. How could someone on the wrong side be so beautiful? He gritted his teeth and punched Naruto’s arm, who was gaping like a love-struck teenager at the blond. “Get your shit together, Dobe.”
“Oh, right!” Just when Naruto snapped out of it, the two girls charged.
Sasuke and Naruto edged away from each other, making sure that the two girls were separated. That way, there would be no more teamwork surprises. However, that means that Sasuke and Naruto were completely on their own, too.
Sasuke exchanged blows with the petite girl. She was nearly a head shorter than him but damn was she fast. Every punch and kick he threw, she dodged with ease and grace. It looked like they were dancing together at the edge of the bedroom, although in the kitchen, it sounded like Naruto and the other blondie were giving it a real go. Pots and pans fell and sounded off in the kitchen, as well as a few shouts of pain and surprise. Sasuke tried to take a peak, but then a foot came flying to his face, but he blocked it with his arm.
“Keep your eyes on me, handsome. You should worry about yourself more than your friend,” she smirked.
Damn. Even her voice was sexy.
Sasuke took a hold of her ankle and twisted it. She fell on the ground, and he pinned her down. “You’re pretty cocky.”
She struggled under his grip but smiled slyly nonetheless. “I would have preferred if you stopped at pretty.”
She kneed his side and turned their positions over. This time, she was straddling him. “I expected more from you, Sasuke-kun.”
He blinked. Of course, she knew his name. Kami, how he loved the way his name rolled off her tongue. “You know me?”
“I know enough.”
“Only polite for you to introduce yourself, then,” he smirked.
“Sakura.”
“Sakura,” he repeated. It was a name fitting of her looks and coloring. As much as he loved being straddled by her, he needed to get out of her hold, lest he wanted to be murdered.
A loud crash came from the kitchen, combined with a shrill scream. “Forehead, let’s get out of here!”
Her emerald eyes widened. She was on her feet the next second, and then dashed into the kitchen.
Sasuke wasted no time chasing after her. He wasn’t going to let her slip right through his fingers. What he saw in the kitchen winded him.
Kakashi was there along with their other colleagues. Naruto was on the floor, bloodied up. Sakura was by the window, her partner’s arm slung around her shoulder. The blondie was bleeding, too.
“Best you surrender now, girls,” Kakashi drawled.
Sakura had one foot out the window. She glared at Kakashi and then moved her gaze over to Sasuke. “My mundane life could use some spice,” she smirked. “If you wanna become a villain, call me.” She winked at him before jumping out the window.
Sasuke immediately ran to the window and watched the two of them free fall. They landed on the back of a truck, that drove away. He gritted his teeth. How could he let her get away? Thinking about what she said made him smirk. Perhaps Naruto had a point. If working with someone like her was what the other side offered, he might just have to ask her to count him in.
Moar Spirits for Spirit
Prompt: M/N, Neck
**
At this hour of night, this section of Central Park is all but deserted, which serves the purposes of the two young men meeting there just fine. The older of the two unties the red bandanna around his head and stuffs it into a pocket before stepping out into the light-- the colour is too eye-catching, even at this hour of night, and likely to draw the attention of passersby or the odd passing cop. The star-shaped tattoo on his wrist is a little less noticeable.
He doesn’t give the other boy much of a greeting beyond a fairly elaborate handshake-fist-bump combination, during which money changes hands, but sits down at the base of the a statue-- fairly new, some dude in a cape holding a sword atop a horse, lights up a cigarette as he counts the wadded-up cash. “That’s a little bit more than what I asked, Trey. Wanna tell me what’s up?”
Trey is perhaps all of fifteen, gangly but baby-faced, shuffling his feet in his battered red high-tops. “Well, I got together some extra. You know. Isn’t that good, Switch?”
The evasiveness of Trey’s body language and his non-answer to Switch’s question makes the older boy lean forward, all but trapping him against the statue’s concrete base. “Don’t tell me you’re trying to get up to some shit, now. I don’t think that’d be a smart idea.”
“I just-- I got a new caseworker. She actually cares. I’ve been going to school and I think I might be able to graduate. She’s even helping me get a part-time job.” Trey’s still too young to know not to babble out sensitive information when he’s nervous, and so he rambles, shrinking away from Switch’s thunderous expression. “I won’t snitch or nothing, I promise. She doesn’t know anything about any of that, and I’m not gonna tell her. I just think I should get out of this so that it won’t fuck up my chances.”
“And you think it’s that easy, huh?”
The snick of a knife being drawn is all but silent, and yet to Trey, in this still and deadly-silent park, it’s loud as a gunshot, almost as loud as the pulse pounding in his throat. Switch-- short for Switchblade, his weapon of choice, so easily hidden, and yet, flicked open close enough to his face to nick the tip of his nose, so lethal, all the same. “We took care of you when your trickin’ mama couldn’t. And now you think an extra hundred dollars gets you a free pass? An out?” Switch’s face is close enough to Trey’s that flecks of saliva impact against Trey’s cheek with his words, but the boy is too terrified to be grossed out. “You seen what happens to snitches. I guess you about to see what happens to rats going green, too.”
Trey is too scared to do more than yelp and squeeze his eyes shut, but the slash of the knife never comes. He hears a rumble, feels the earth shake in its very foundations at his feet. Maybe this is what an earthquake feels like, or the Apocalypse. Suddenly he doesn’t feel the pressure of a body up in his face any more, and hears Switch screaming.
He opens his eyes, and sees his former fellow gang member airborne, hoisted up by the scruff of his neck like a kitten, arms and legs dangling helplessly. The man holding him immobile is tall and muscular, looking like something out of King Arthur or maybe the Vikings, and has the tip of a wicked-looking sword that makes Switch’s knife look like a toothpick in comparison held to Switch’s throat. Trey has no idea where his mysterious saviour had come from; certainly, he’d not heard anyone or anything approaching just a moment ago. The man turns his face towards Trey, eyes dark and flashing.
“Run, you dithering knave! What are you waiting for?”
Trey jerks into action and jumps to his feet, dashing for the nearest exit. He almost crashes into a woman walking into the park, but manages to avoid her at the last second with a hasty “’Scuse me, ma’am!”. Maybe his new caseworker would help him evade Switch and any of the others who would likely now try to beat his ass. Angela. He’d never met anyone like her before, capable of giving him reason to hope for the better.
“You’re excused.” Linden knows terror when she sees it, and it’s all but radiating off the boy in waves. It doesn’t take much to ascertain, based on his speed and direction, that he must have come from that particular section of the park, and she quickens her footsteps. She’s not quite prepared, however, to see her noble, impetuous, good-hearted idiot of a knight holding a flailing young man aloft twenty feet in the air.
“Drop him. Hard enough to immobilize him. Not hard enough to kill him.”
Nathalán follows her directive, but at that distance, Switch is still immediately rendered unconscious by the drop. Linden kicks away the knife that falls from his hand hard enough that it splashes into the pond, then bends over him, critically.
“He’ll live. Probably a bit of a concussion and definitely will be favouring his left leg, but he may make it another year. Unless his lifestyle gets the best of him.” She is no fool, and certainly the tattoos and colours are a dead giveaway of his affiliation and probable livelihood. “I suppose he was shaking down the other one who ran out like the hounds of hell were pursuing him?”
“The other one was trying to bow out. Abjure the group which he’d been part of. They’ve been gathering more often, of late, in the park late at night. Selling their bags of powder or pastiles.”
“Kid’s trying to jump out of a street gang,” Linden shakes her splendid, curly head. “He’s lucky to have escaped with his life.”
“Will they seek retribution, then?” Nathalán asks in his blunt, direct way. “He is but a child. Foolish, undoubtedly, but not worthy of the ills they would visit upon him.”
“He shouldn’t have gotten tangled up with the street life,” Linden murmurs. “But I suppose I can’t fault you for having sympathy for foolhardy lads with more bravado than sense.” Nimbly, she clambers up onto the statuary’s base, so that she can look him in the eye. “I daresay you saved his life just now.”
His hand, so rough and inexorable around Switch’s neck, is gentle as it traces her back, pausing over her shoulder-blades where her wings would be when she’s in her most primordial and deadly of forms. “Maybe I see something of myself in him-- a yearning to regain honour that’s been lost. A desire to be worthy, someday, of love and forgiveness.” He dips his head, and the lips that touch her temple are soft and not at all cold, for the moment. “I just thought-- he should get that chance. As I did.”
“You are shameless and incorrigible,” Linden tells him, unable to stop a wry laugh from bubbling up. “I’ll see what I can do, I suppose.”
“I shall keep watch from here, as usual. And let you know if there is news.”
**
Though he was certainly not opposed to being inundated by some very nice drugs, courtesy of the emergency room staff at the hospital, Switch didn’t enjoy being laid up, not one bit. No one believed him, of course, and part of him was afraid that maybe he really was losing it. Certainly there was no freaking way that he’d been plucked off the ground by some statue come to life like something out of a Harry Potter movie, then unceremoniously dropped like a used Kleenex. He’d been found the next morning by park maintenance and by all accounts was lucky to be alive-- between the concussion and the broken leg and the freezing temperatures. Of course the po-po’s had not bought the story of why he’d been there so late, and they’d busted him cold with Oxy’s and two dime-bags of blow. One of the narcos actually had the nerve to laugh at him. “Well, Switch, maybe you wouldn’t be imagining such things if you weren’t high all the time. Funny how these things happen only to people like you.”
He hated the fucking cops.
Of course, there’d be the whole parade of possession charges and court and probie. And then he’d get down to business. Trey, specifically, was at fault for the predicament that he’d found himself in at present, and therefore needed to face the consequences of his actions. He still had homeboys on the street who could take care of a miserable little prick as easy as one-two-three. Just as soon as he managed to get out of this godforsaken hospital, of course. When he was somewhere not handcuffed to a bed.
The TV is set to one of the cooking shows, probably the food network or something, and the hostess is a super hot lady with curly reddish-brown hair and fantastic boobs behind her cute little apron get-up, showing the audience how to make some type of fancy holiday roast thing.
“The most important part of this is letting it rest. You don’t want to carve it right away, not while it’s still tense from the heat and stress of the cooking process.” The perky hostess explains as she pulls the steaming roast out of the oven with bright-green mitts. Switch barely pays attention to her long-winded explanation, but out of nowhere, the TV starts to flicker, then go to static. Yet, eerily, though the entire pretty suburban-kitchen background of the cooking show disappears into that black-and-white-snowfall-effect, the cooking lady remains, facing him head-on, brandishing a carving knife with casual, deadly expertise in one hand and a knife-honer in the other. She’s got great boobs and is all smiles, but Switch knows, just from the way she’s holding it, that she’s as deadly with a bladed weapon as he is.
“Rest, now.” The lady’s voice is still sweet, terrifyingly so. “I’ll carve it when it’s ready. There will be enough for everyone, even those who want seconds.” Switch clutches at the sheets and attempts to scoot back, but his bum leg keeps him immobile, as do the handcuffs. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do now. You wouldn’t want to ruin things, would you?” For one electrifying, nightmarish moment, he could swear that the cooking lady’s eyes go red as blood on that television screen even as the ring of carbon steel echoes eerily in the room. Switch feels cold sweat beading on the back of his neck, and on his upper lip, goose-flesh breaking out over his arms.
“Fuck all this.” Shakily, he hits the button to summon a nurse. “Get that asshole pig in here. I need to talk to him.”
