most of these fics are pretty popular in the fandom, so this list is more directed at new fans just joining the winterhawk paradise!! (there's a lot on here tho, so maybe you find one you haven't read yet)

mika/bee asked for little to no smut, so i'm not gonna rec any pwp works here (with a few exceptions). if you want smut recs, hmu tho, i got y'all

there's obviously still smut in many of these fics, but i tried to tell you if it's important/skippable or not. if you don't mind smut i obviously recommend reading it bc GOD these authors just know their shit, but i think nobody should miss out on the amazing long fics just bc they don't like smut :)

notes: every time i give winterhawk recs to a new fan i start with lucky in love, bc even tho it’s an AU, it has soo many of the typical winterhawk tropes i love so much. PLUS: roomates. and lucky. and every chapter is titled “aw, [something], no” and i find that way too funny to not mention. idk it’s just one of that fics that gives me the warmest & fuzziest of warm fuzzy feelings and i think everyone should read it. 

smut: even tho it has the wonderful, wonderful tag “not gonna tag every sex act just trust me there’s plenty”, there’s actually not that many. in my opinion, the perfect amount for a 60k, 21 chapters winterhawk fic. it’s quite a slow-burn, so they’re only in the later chapters anyway, and the build up to it is soOoo good. this is one of the fics where i know exactly where to find the smut scenes so feel free to hmu. 

Like Real People Do by Kangofu_CB

notes: no one, NO ONE  gets me like this fic, it checks like every single one of my boxes. perfection. not lying when i say it’s my favorite fic of all time. it doesn’t have a special premise or anything, but that’s the good thing about it. it’s just so… cozy. comfy. feels like home. i can’t even remember if like real people do is my favorite hozier song because of this fic or if it’s my fav fic bc like real people do is my fav hozier song, but i know that i never cried as hard as i did when i heard lrpd live and could only think about this fic. nothing makes me feel as good as re-reading this story, i want to eat it.

smut: yes, but only like 2,5 scenes. hmu and i tell you the exact fucking paragraph number or smth, this fic is literally engraved in my soul. thank you CB. some day i’ll leave a 2k words comment on every single chapter. 

The Other Man out of Time by sara_holmes

notes: okay, objectively speaking: this is the best winterhawk fic in existence. not my absolute favorite bc it makes me cry too much, but definitely top 3. no other winterhawk fic made me sob this hard, no other winterhawk fic makes me wanna curl up on the floor and cry for an hour every time i think about it. that being said: IT HAS A HAPPY ENDING!!! and a lot of stuff in between is SO sweet as well. premise is basically: clint travels back in time and fights in wwii alongside bucky and they fall in love. and then bucky!canon happens. you get it? you get it. it’s- UGH it’s so good. jesus. i’m crying. 

smut: a few short sexy scenes i think, but no SMUT smut, and it’s definitely definitely DEFINITELY not the focus of the story. can’t emphasise enough how much everyone should read this 

Hipsters get Remembered, Legend’s Never Die by sara_holmes

notes: millennial bucky is one of the most entertaining things fandom came up with, and this fic is the epitome of that trope. love love LOVE. plus, clint’s really fucking awesome in this.

Puzzle Pieces (series) by sara_holmes

important tags: steve/tony, kid fic, emotional hurt

notes: if you don’t like stony this one isn’t for you, just skip to next one :) if you like stony: GOD pls read puzzle pieces!! the first 200k words fic is stony focused and has only pre-slash winterhawk, but even tho they don’t get together in this one yet it’s literally one of my favorite clint/bucky portrayals of all time, no one gets them like sara, it’s perfect. the stony/kid fic storyline is SO amazing as well, so if that’s your cup of tea, check. it. out. after that they’re a few longer winterhawk instalments, and while some of them are really angsty and painful, there’s always a happy ending. god i need to re-read this entire thing. it makes me wanna cry and throw up in all the good ways.

smut: they’re quite horny in both big instalments, but i would say the smut is skippable. it’s not un-important for both the winterhawk and the stony dynamic tho, so i wouldn’t recommend doing that

SO. i always like to keep track of how many fics i read throughout the year, and in 2024 i read about 28.3 million words of fanfic. i know. i don't have a life. most fics read were in july (4.4m words) and least fics read were in september (797k words). Unfortunately for him, unclaimed kids tend to raise the most suspicion... but he might have found a loophole in the form of Aphrodite. okay yea this one just left me reeling for days. weeks even. this is a total rewrite of what pjo could have been and though i may have questioned it going into it, i should have never doubted any bit of this- this is just a masterpiece of writing, like, seriously. the way that all of the character arcs were written, the deaths meaningful, the plot insanely well-thought out?? i am in awe. i read this and the sequel within a 6 hour car drive bc i was just so insanely hooked on every detail of this universe- seriously, the worldbuilding was insane, the oc's so perfectly intertwined, and the lore perfectly incorporated. SERIOUSLY if you want a pjo fic to completely alter your brain chemistry, this is the one.

AND I PUT SERIOUS WEIGHT IN THAT. AND I REALLY CAN'T BELIEVE IM SAYING IT ABOUT AN HP FIC. BUT LIKE. IM BEING SO FR RIGHT NOW. the way that this fic literally altered my brain chemistry and left me in shambles. the amount of detail that went into the plot and the lore. i could read another 400k words of this universe and it still wouldn't be enough. the author is literally so crazily talented they made me ship harry potter x gideon prewett (no weird age gap going on trust me, there's a lot of time travel stuff going on- they are around the same age biologically and mentally). like seriously if i had to recommend one fic from this year it would be this. which is insane to say. but i cannot understate how incredible this work of fanfiction is like genuinely, i hope that this author is out there writing incredible original works because they integrated oc's into the plot so seamlessly, made these incredible relationships and orchestrated the plot so perfectly that i was just completely immersed. i could go on for way longer but like. all i could think when finishing this was woah. holy fucking shit. idk if i'll ever read a fic as insane as that again.

At that point in life, Vi should already be aware she hardly, if ever, had things go her way. this is actually 100% canon to me, seriously just thinking about vi and the alternate universe and her place in the world in the main universe now just makes me want to cry, but this fic just explored it so well and has one of the best vi characterizations ever.

Diluc had been looking around the lesser patroled areas of Mondstadt to search for the Architect

He didn't even need those incompetent knights to tell him their god had finally descended

He already saw the signs long before Mondstadt

Bc youve been in Wolvendom, the area has flourished over time, more fish in the water, more game to hunt and bigger, crows making circles in the sky despite there being no corpse

And one of the closest places to you,

Is the Dawn Winery.

Diluc's security against Venti began to hold up better, the staff didn't have to clean as much things like dirt or weather damage to the manor,

His hawk had never been faster delivering his letters, he almost thought the little guy had been drugged with something

He patroled Stormterror's Lair, and deep in the woods surrounding the manor that the knights hadn't bother to go into

Afterall, he figured you'd never had a mortal form before, so u were unlikely to fend for urself for very long in the woods lol

so he wanted to find u quick (aww softy :')

He even made a trip out to the Thousand Wind Temple and Dragonspine (he did report that one to the knights, he didn't want Amber, Bennett, or Creator-forbid Klee, being the few pyro users to have to explore it)

Finally, after doing the further away locations, siginificant in history and rich with leftover magic

Diluc figured that's where you might land first, so he saved Wolvendom for last

It would at least let him check on that wolf kid and maybe get to talk to him long enough to ask him if he's seen anything unusual.

The lord of Dawn Winery manor heads into the Wolvendom woods, just as sunset colors the trees...

It was a Friday evening, the sun was setting, the weather was pleasant and it was time for all of the Lupical to come together and eat a big feast!! :)

About once a month, Andrius will come out for a few nights and dine with all of yall

Hes an old wolf give him a break, he takes long naps

So u cook lots of Mondstadt favorites to eat on and a few Liyue dishes too

Razor, ur favorite helper, has helped u finish the last dish and is now romping around with the puppies bless <3

U guys have dragged ur coffee table dining table setup out to sit and eat at

Andrius lets out a not too loud, not too quiet howl, and as the wolves, Razor and you lmao join in

It filled the air of Wolvendom like no howl before it, as he used the glowing lampgrass to help light the path deeper

Diluc sniffs the air, and squints deeper into the forest

The black branches shade the way ahead, but just barely... he can see the flicker of orange and blue light?

He summons his claymore, bracing it on his shoulder, and creeps into the treeline to better hide him

You swear to god (dammit swear to.. you??) someone is watching you.

You look around the piles of fluffy doggos, happy and stuffed full they r slowly forming puppy piles

Andrius is finishing his meat platter, also sitting on all four legs on the ground

Razor is splayed on his back beside you, eyes closed, his feet sticking out the other side of the table, u chuckle at him

But not a single Lupical seems to be looking at you.

Gulping down your last few bites, you scan the treeline

U refuse to be that bitch in a horror movie where their gut says smth is off and they brush it off or barely look at their surroundings

Turning around to the treeline behind you, u see something... red fur?

U sit up some more, peering over the bushes at the bottom of the trees

You meet a pair of warm brown eyes, widened like they're just as shocked to see you

As u notice his familiar red high ponytail (but also not?? Its weird going from 2D to 3D and still recognizing bitches)

U peer down at his chest, as he carefully stands out of the foliage-

That familiar star shaped button that u can press for the character menu screen, the same thats on Razor, on Benny, on Fischl, on Lisa-

Hovers over Diluc's chest.

Diluc is in the bush, observing the human(???) stranger (he really doesnt want to attract the attention of that.. giant spirit wolf thing)

Has sensed his presence, and as he grips his claymore, ready to demand answers,

Razor startles, and jumps up, smelling the pyro user, he summons his weapon-

The figure locks eyes with him, and all he sees is gold.

You cannot convince me this has nothing to do with Ra's being Ra's, you know, a non white villain who has a complex background and subjective elements. It's always that side of fandom having Ra's being an awful character to prop up Jason, having extremely racist scenarios where Jason rescues a kidnapped Tim forced in harem clothing, insisting Ra's is an abuser... It's tiring. Everytime I go into the Ra's tag, I see one of these people being awful to Ra's for the sake of it. Why can't you just write your JT stuff and leave Ra's alone, for God's sake!?

I'm. So. Tired. *Those* jokes aren't funny. Portraying Ra's in the most racist way possible isn't funny. This whole speech about why JT is okay but Ra'sTim isn't it's not funny either. You all just show how racist you are and how you don't care to show so if that way you can prop up a white character.

And honestly? A lot of people who are posting stuff in the Ra's tag these days should shut up. You don't know Ra's' character at all, we can all tell. But have fun with your awful treatment of poc characters, I guess! I bet you *love* posting it.

Paul- He's the STAR of KISS. I probably wouldn't have gotten into KISS if it weren't for him. Everything I adore and want to be

Gene- I wanna listen to him talk while we share milk and chocolate chip cookies together

Peter- I have a soft spot for him. I think he can be really sweet and cute

Ace- Sexy, trashy, baby girl, sexy girl in hooker boots. Wanna bend over and smack that ass. He and Paul are my bisexual fantasies. BUT SERIOUSLY, The first guitar player that made me go WOW. Never got the hype about lead guitarists before but then I was thinking of 80s rock and 80's rock solos never resonated with me. His solos are iconic, not just shredding/mindless noodling. As someone who never learned how to read music, I think it's amazing he influenced many to learn. I'd love to learn how to play. Not to be in a band but I've always wanted to play a guitar. Also, I'd love to hang out with him. He's funny and bright. I think there's softness to him and I'd like to believe (coming from a fan, of course) that he's a good person. He also reminds me of my ex early 90s era....so I guess I have a soft spot for him

Eric C- I wish I could meet him. If I had to pick one member I could meet it would be him because I know he'd be super sweet

Vinnie- talented songwriter and amazing voice. Gorgeous

Mark- He did his job on Animalize

Bruce- Super sweet. He was the cutie of the group during revenge era ngl. Paul had competition.

Eric S- Seems really funny. got a nice tight body. seems every KISS drummer has a nice bod.

Tommy- Loyal and hard working. I can see why KISS kept him. Honestly he'd the kind of guy you want in your group.

7. What do you dislike about each member?

Gene- Condescending. I can see he has some views on things that I'd butt heads with him on

Paul- Overly critical of others, may come across cold. He scares me. y'all see his posts for new years???? He can come across very hurtful in his choice of words

Peter- Bitter (in the past it seems) and tbh some of the shit I read and heard that unfortunately was allowed to slide (sometimes even passed off as "funny" stories). It's a sensitive topic for me.

Ace- like Peter, awful things said and done that cannot be solely blamed on addiction which I'm very glad he recovered from btw. I'm honestly glad I never put this man on a pedestal and it's not just because "he's human like the rest of us". lol I love him but I'm glad I've been exposed to the bad early on this obsession so I don't have any unrealistic ideas about ppl, you know? I think I need to sleep with him to sort out these feelings lol

Eric C- I don't know that much to comment and feels almost unfair because he was taken away from us much too soon

They did their job. If they hadn't stepped in I wouldn't have seen KISS final show and for that I am grateful. I enjoyed their participation.

I'd ask if I could suck their dick. That's tough. What haven't they've been asked before? Honestly I got some questions for Ace that's been bugging me and I know I'd never get them answered unless I knew him personally and had a real heart-to-heart conversion. I dunno I can only go off from a fan's perspective about how that'll go

Hard because I love Paul but he scares me. I think I'd need more than a day to get comfortable with him. I'd love to spend a day with Eric C or Bruce because they seem the nicest. Maybe I'd love to hang with Peter now. Gene, may be fun. He's a good talker. Though it be fun to get one-on-one time with Ace. I'd love a tour of all his tech and then we can compare and just geek out on technology.

20. How would you explain the band to someone who isn't familiar with KISS?

I don't know. Honestly the other people who answered this already gave greats explanations. So many pass judgment on them without giving them a chance. They're a one-of-a-kind experience. There will never be a band like them.

Okay I'm gonna share two wips here just because I can. I haven't been able to write a lot these past weeks, due to school, stress and an accompanying lack of motivation. But! Here's something I've worked on.

Firstly, the long-awaited chapter 2 of A Debt to Pay:

“But we will find him.” Elizabeth squeezed his hand again. When he looked at her, the tears still shone in her eyes, but determination had set in her face. She held her head high, her gaze steely. She looked the epitome of the princess she was raised to be, but also every bit the goddess who’d stood against the gods. Gowther didn’t have to look to know that whatever doubt she held was looked away tightly in her mind. He envied her confidence; the refusal to believe this might end in tragedy. The future was too uncertain, the factors too negative. Galvina’s behavior alone foretold a different outcome. She was explosive in her actions, driven by revenge almost to the point of madness. At the same time, she was determined too. She knew what she wanted and was not going to let anything come in her way. Gowther wasn’t sure they would find Meliodas in time.

Secondly, The Boy and the Rain (a fic I started on, completely forgot about, and am now breathing new life into):

Ban leaned against the safety of the doorway, watching his captain without any intention of actually joining him in the downpour. Meliodas tilted his head slightly. A small acknowledgement of his presence, but otherwise didn’t move. “It’s incredible, isn’t it?” Meliodas suddenly asked, voice slightly breathless. His eyes practically shined as he opened them to gaze up at the falling droplets. “What?” Ban frowned. Was the captain actually drunk? “The rain,” Meliodas clarified. “It’s… water.” “Yeah,” Meliodas sounded almost in awe. His smile grew. “Yet no matter how many years I spend here, it still feels like a miracle every time.”

12. The funniest comment someone has left on a fic of yours?

I feel like the comments I get both on ao3 and on here can be divided in a handful of categories: sweet and encouraging, people loving Meliodas getting hurt as much as me, people rooting for whoever saves/comforts Meliodas, "I wish I could hug him", people screaming at me about the angst, and a combination of one or more of these.

But looking through my ao3 comments I found 2 particularly funny ones. Part of this one from Help Me Brother, for I Am Falling:

“What?” Your voice was barely above a whisper as you spoke, your entire body tensed. 

“Awe, it’s okay doll.” He consoled you resting his hand in the middle of your back, he pressed another kiss to the top of your head. 

“I don’t understand.” Even though it was Jake, and you honestly weren’t sure why he had come in and pretended to be Marc, and lied about not knowing Marc the night before you still needed to gain some sort of trust with him. So, you snuggled your head into his neck. 

“Ya see, Marc and Sean wanna live a life without Khonshu. They’ve openly expressed this too many fucking time to count. They are not the only decision makers in this body, so when he needs work done that’s gonna be my job so they are not bothered with the burden. One day they’ll turn around, change their minds. ‘specially Marc, he can’t stand peace.” Jake laughed at the end of his statement. 

“But Marc and Steven,” you put emphasis on his name, “are still in a deal with whoever that is.” You truly never got who Khonshu was explained to you. All you knew was that Marc owed him basically his life and that he had to do his dirty work for him, consequently that meant Steven was dragged along. 

Jake chuckled, “True, but, there’s a chance they could get out of it, so for now I give them a little tiny chunk and I take the rest so that they might reconsider and even if they don’t I know what I’m doing.” He could feel your heavy breathing even though you masked your inner feelings on the outside.

“So you’re the safe guard in this whole ordeal?” You could feel Jake’s hand going up and down your back. 

“Exactly princess, I’m just out until I’m not needed for Khonshu’s bidding. Then your little schedule will return to normal.” Jake took his other hand and smoothed out your hair, he felt you jump a little at the contact. 

“So, why are you out now?” You knew deep down, though you were never told explicitly, that Khonshu’s bidding included murder. So the uncontrolled fear you had right now, especially after Jake said what he said was that he was going to kill you. 

“They don’t know about me, so I’m not involved with the weekly plan ‘round here. I just wanted to pop in, tell ya the truth. I get why those two morons are so attached to ya though. I didn’t wanna do my job last night, I just wanted to stay and be with you.” You could hear sincerity in his voice but you weren’t sure whether you could believe him or not. 

“You’re out right now just to see me and tell me the truth? Nothing else?” You had to hear from him that this wasn’t going to turn into one of the men waking up in their own body next to you dead. 

“God, you gonna make me spell it out? I missed you, and you needed to know some stuff.” His voice raised at the beginning of his sentence and lowered the longer he spoke. 

“Jake, you’re not gonna kill me are you?” You could feel your voice shake holding onto him a little tighter holding your breath. 

“No! Of course not,” He laughed and squeezed you back, “I do need to ask something of you though.” His lips were at the shell of your ear now, you could feel his breath trickling down the side of your neck. 

“What’s that?” You relaxed in his hold after you heard that he needed to make a deal with you, that ensured your current safety more than him saying he wasn’t going to kill you. 

“Don’t tell Marc or the other one that I exist, if you do it’ll be a whole thing. Just super avoidable honestly.” He made his case quickly, though his voice didn’t rise above a whisper. 

“Only if you keep this body safe and let me know it’s you when it’s you. No more funny business Jake. If you’re gonna be here, tell me.” The idea of lying to the two people you loved most hurt, but you knew it would hurt worse and cause them more issues if they knew that Jake existed. Steven had already had a hard enough time realizing Marc was real. And even though Marc loved Steven like a brother, the fact that he couldn’t live without him scared Marc and made him feel a little crazy. They were just starting to get along better and make boundaries, you couldn’t ruin that for them. Plus Jake wasn’t doing anything inherently awful towards the two of them. 

“Really? That’s it. Damn, I thought I was really gonna have to make you promise,” He sighed in relief, Jake genuinely didn’t wanna cause you harm or make you do things you didn’t want to but if worse came to worse he would, “but alright, deal.”

“I’ll still be cleaning the white hoodie by the way, Marc will be infuriated if it’s covered in blood, he will also be suspicious and concerned.” You joked with Jake a little pulling back from his hold. 

“Does that mean?” He let you go and you sat up taking hair out of your face. 

“That you’re cleaning up the broken bowl in the living room? Yes. We made a deal, see if it would’ve really been  Marc I would say give him the body and let him clean it up but since it was you go get the broom Hyde.” Jake laughed at you a little before sitting up and stretching. 

Right when you thought everything was all settled and done with the proper arrangements made you turned your head and let out a scream of terror scooting back towards Jake quickly. 

“What’s wrong?” Jake immediately didn’t know how to react other than to hold onto you and move slightly in front of you.

“WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?” You took a pillow off your bed and threw it at the thing you saw standing next to your dresser. 

“Khonshu,” Jake spoke to him like that was his friend, “you got more work for me?” Khonshu had his beak pointing down looking at the pillow that had just hit his body. 

“THAT’S KHONSHU?!” You were still screaming, this was worse than figuring out about Jake, this was so much worse. 

“You can see me?” Khonshu was now looking directly at you, with Jake loosening his grip, but yours was still tight on him. 

“NoO I just threw that at the wall for no reason.” Your sarcasm was enough to make Jake snicker under his breath as he observed the interaction. 

“You have sight, you can see beyond what other mortals can. Your capacity for knowledge outside of this Earth is vast.” Khnoshu ignored your sarcasm, still surprised at the new discovery before him.

“I’d rather not.” You closed your eyes and shook your head letting go of Jake. 

“I’m afraid you have no choice, but I am glad that they have found you. The rarity of a human like you is to be protected at all costs.” Khonshu moved his beak inches each time looking between you and Jake. 

You counted the names on your fingers just to make sure you were right, “There’s four of you now?” 

“Yes, but you mustn’t let stupid and Marc know that you can see me for the time being. I will let you know when the time is right.” Khonshu spoke, he and Jake were similar, they were okay with you knowing of their existence, they just didn’t want the other half of this group to know. 

“So you’re gonna be around and you want me to pretend like I don’t hear or see a giant mummified bird?” Khonshu gave you a slow nod. 

“Look at you go, you’re special.” Jake kissed your temple before getting out of bed. 

“I suspect that the two of us will become closer as time moves forward, I expect nothing from you. It’s just pleasant to be seen.” Khonshu stepped forward away from the wall and you assumed he was going to follow Jake out the door. 

This was only going to get weirder..

Lunch Break

For the hottest day of the year he still wore a long sleeve shirt and pants. His insecurities made you sad. He would never say it but he envied his siblings. They all were normal, or at least normal-er. Alphonso was many things, funny, charming and hell, even confident. But secure in his looks was not one of them. He got used to the way he looked but he never had those moments where he looked in the mirror and really admired himself.

You two had met on accident when he came to the antique shop where you worked. He needed space from his siblings, Fei, Ben, and Jayme were all so pessimistic and cold. Marcus and Christopher only ever wanted to work. And Sloane was doing whatever she did every day. He was alone and could finally breathe. The smell of old furniture and books was something he didn’t think he’d grow to love, but there you were. Cleaning antique lamps and trying to get the cigarette smell out of old carpets.

“You should try white vinegar and lavender oil-for the smell.” The shop was so quiet, his voice came out as a shout. Spooking you and knocking over your cleaning spray,

“Aw shit, I’m sorry. Let me help.”

Kneeling down by your side he reached for the ruined merchandise, now bleached with…bleach,

“Hey, you’re um, a sparrow right? I’m Y/n. Why are you here and not like saving the world?” He made eye contact, you didn’t look away from his features, you smiled softly and stood up. Alphonso followed you to the register and put the stuff on the counter, trying to play it cool,

“I’m on a break, just chillin’ ”

His eyes followed you around. You glanced at the clock and then back at him,

“Well I’m about to go on break, wanna break together?” Alphonso couldn’t believe it,

“Yes! But speaking of breaking, what about the stuff I ruined? Doesn’t that cost money?” His new friend just smiled and shrugged,

“I’ll figure it out when I get back, as of ten seconds ago I am no longer working.” You took off your name tag and walked past him through the shaded glass and into the sun.

The heat was nearly unbearable. It would’ve been worse if Alphonso hadn’t offered to buy you both ice cream to make up for the accident. While he payed the man you saw a giant ad across the street. 6 siblings.

No Alphonso.

“Why aren’t you up on the billboard with them?” He just laughed,

“Are you kidding? If they put my face on a bill board it would scare everyone away. Its bad for business.” You used your hand to block out the sun and glare at the gigantic advertisement for his brothers and sisters,

“Business or not, you’re their family and a part of the team. You deserve recognition for that, Alphie.” He seemed stunned by your words and stood quietly holding both your ice cream cones. He only stopped daydreaming when the dessert began to drip on his hand,

“Oh shit.” He laughed and licked the bit of ice cream off his wrist before handing you your cone.

The excursion ended when you walked the park length and made it back to the antique store. You both stood still not wanting to depart but not wanting to stay too long in fear of making it awkward,

“How’s you know about that trick with the cigarette smell?”

“My sister Fei used to smoke as a teen and would have me help her get rid of the smell.” You opened the door and kept your back to him,

“Come back again sometime, this was nice.”

“He was with someone.” Fei sneered. The siblings began asking questions and interrogating him about his afternoon off,

“Are they hot?” “Can we trust them?” “You didn’t talk to them did you?” “What makes you think they’re actually interested?”

“It’s not a big deal! I took a walk and lost track of time okay? Get off my back.” Number four let his siblings sit with their discomfort about this newcomer in their brothers life. It didn’t matter what they thought. Alphonso had plans already.

Ted Lasso 2x8 thoughts

I am so lucky that the creators of Ted Lasso decided to make this entire show specifically for me. #blessed

If last week felt like a bit of breathing room (albeit tense, poignant, character-progressing breathing room) with distinct narrative lines, this week’s episode was a chaotic yet tightly-written swirl of pain and hope and sadness! No neat subject headers for this one, y’all. Just my brain and heart in the inadequate form of a bulleted list. It is the medium available to me at this time.

I am going to remember the moment when Ted calls Sharon and tells her his father killed himself for the rest of my life.

(I could say a bunch of stuff about his face and what he says and how he tries to hide his tears from Beard right after and how insanely much I adore this character and ahhhhhhhh but I’m just going to leave that scene there in our collective memories.)

Jamie. JAMIE. Higgins has given some great advice about love on this show, but his musings about his up-and-down relationship with his own father were not helpful in the context of Jamie’s dad, who is an abusive piece of shit. I really adore that all of the main AFC Richmond staff members are realistically a bit hit-or-miss with their advice and life philosophies (some are mostly miss this season, of course).

And I am completely in awe of the moment when Jamie punches his father. The way he just stands there after Beard kicks his dad out of the locker room. The way you can hear a pin drop. And Roy—Roy who is learning in so many areas of his life about his influence on people, learning that the things he needs aren’t necessarily the same as the things other people need—is the one to cross the room and hug him. Hold him, really, with the tenderness Ted used when he hugged Rebecca outside the gala in 1x4. God.

I’ve thought a lot about how s1 was about giving people a soft place to land. There’s always an angel there when you need one. There’s always an opportunity to be kind. If you look for someone, you find them. If you look for the good in someone, you find the good. And as everyone works through their individual journeys in s2, that can’t always be the case anymore. But there are still so many moments of angels on this show, and it’s not about chance and serendipity and fate [not that it was about that in s1] but about the effort it takes to become someone who can be there for someone else. Or who can be there for yourself. I’m so proud of Jamie for physically fighting back against his father. I’m so proud of Roy for being the one who recognized what Jamie needed.

I have every feeling in the world about how Ted is almost totally frozen both times (s1 and s2) he witnesses Jamie’s father abusing him. In s1, he was still there for Jamie after, and I have every reason to believe he’ll be there for Jamie after this incident as well, but that frozen stance HURTS. He’s in so deep with his pain about his own father that it’s like he physically cannot snap out of it to act in the moment. It seems entirely outside of his control, and it breaks my heart, because Ted wants so badly to be a good father, a good coach, a good friend, a good partner, a good patient. He’s there for people in all kinds of ways, even in his current less-than-capable state. He takes care of Sharon post-concussion and even gets her a new bike! During the disastrous match at Wembley his coaching is ineffectual and everything is chaos but he’s the last one standing on the pitch! But this really awful thing keeps happening to Jamie and Ted is just…frozen in the face of it. Like one of those nightmares where you’re running in place.

The frozen-in-place nightmare also kind of applies to the way the total separation between Ted and Rebecca feels, too. I have never for a moment doubted the writers’ intentions in setting these characters up as soulmates on parallel journeys, and I’m actually really digging (on a story level) how disconnected they are right now. It is IMPRESSIVE that their absence in each other’s lives feels like such a glaring loss, one we cannot forget even as there are so many other things happening onscreen. It is 100% not just shipper goggles making me process information about Ted while thinking about Rebecca and information about Rebecca while thinking about Ted. I know there are a lot of really angry and frustrated people in the fandom right now (both T/R shippers and T/R antis and non-shipping fans who don’t get why s2 is different from s1) and while I understand being frustrated by choices characters make, and frustrated by the feelings the show makes us feel that we just want to feel more of or less of, I continue to agree with pretty much every narrative choice happening right now.

Agreeing with the narrative like this?! This is such a unique experience for me as a viewer—to feel like I’m on a ride that is at once absolutely wild and incredibly sensible and well-crafted, and to feel simultaneously completely invested and anticipatory and speculative but also totally willing to trust where it goes. I long for Ted and Beard to really talk. I long for Ted and Rebecca to stop missing each other. I long for Roy to have a serious conversation with Ted about what’s happening with him. I long for Keeley to find a vocation, something that drives her beyond her projects. I long for so many things! But I wouldn’t long for them if this show was less good. If the show was less good, I wouldn’t have a wish list a mile long because I wouldn’t be so attuned to the details and potential lurking in every scene. THIS IS SUCH A GOOD SHOW, I CANNOT HANDLE IT, I LOVE IT SO MUCH.

(To that end, a great deal of the Ted Lasso tag and so many Twitter reactions reactions to the show feel super stressful right now and I am kind of just trying not to look?! I love this fandom so much because of the amazing conversations that happen and because of brilliant fic and because there are some awesome people I never would have encountered were it not for this show. That little bubble is wonderful and I’d stay in this fandom no matter what in order to keep experiencing those things. But fans’ catastrophic reactions to every little thing that happens, every little choice a character makes that isn’t the “perfect” choice? The takeaway that the writers—on this show of all shows—wake up in the morning ready for another day of torturing shippers rather than another day of writing a beautiful story they genuinely want to write? I do not enjoy those parts at all. I would like to opt out of those parts. I’m having such a magical experience watching this show and talking about this show and listening about this show and writing about this show with a variety of people who feel all kinds of ways. I truly wish I could somehow transfer the energy of this experience onto all the people who are hating it right now. I don’t mind at all that people are having vastly different reactions to this show and are sharing their honest feelings, including the really angry ones (I can appreciate something and disagree with it!), and I get that sometimes the language of fannish reactions is intentionally, ironically hyperbolic. But there feels like this very serious trend of people legitimately thinking writers on this show are targeting shippers and have lost respect for their characters, and I just feel like an alien from another planet when I see that stuff. I guess I just feel like people make art because they want their art to be visible to other people and to themselves, but that doesn’t typically involve specifically catering to or torturing a subset of that audience?)

I am more fascinated by Sharon Fieldstone than ever before. I have been running through every single action with her and Ted so many times. The confirmation that she’s living in club-provided housing (that could not look more different from Ted’s club-provided flat). Ted clearly noticing the many bottles. Sharon’s face while she tries to casually recycle them. (Sharon could legitimately have a more problematic relationship with alcohol than Ted does, and I find that extremely interesting and am very curious to find out what happens there.) Sharon leaving him voice notes while she’s concussed, probably because she’d been thinking about him shortly before the accident. The way Ted calls her and does all the funny voices and it’s not frustrating like all the times he uses his silliness and allusions to deflect during their prior conversations because this time, those behaviors are just a part of him showing care for another person. The way they stretch each other, and Ted is still wrong about the things he’s been wrong about, but they both grow all the same.

While it is pretty much impossible for me to imagine that this show would include an actual romantic relationship between Ted and Sharon (it would be beyond unethical even if they could write it well, and Sharon in particular is so professional and committed to her work, and it would erase so much of the powerful message about the importance of seeking therapy from a professional who is not your friend or partner, and I would totally hate it), watching this episode was the first moment I had this queasy little feeling that it’s possible that Ted could end up developing really complicated feelings about Sharon since, at this point, he’s been honest with her about things he’s hardly spoken about before and you can really form an attachment to people you feel safe with in a new way. (I mean, I’m sure Michelle knows what happened with Ted’s father, but I’m not even certain if Beard does.) He’s so broken right now, and Sharon is such a great person and so different from anyone else in his life (even though Rebecca is also different, and Beard is also different, and Roy is also different, and so on), that I could see things getting really fuzzy for him. I continue to have faith in the way the storylines on this show are handled. I’m just. Putting this here.

(In saying that, though, I also wanna make it really clear that I don’t just automatically assume anytime a new female character is introduced that they’re going to end up becoming a romantic complication. Like, Phoebe is allowed to have a teacher who is an attractive woman and AFC Richmond is allowed to have a sports psychologist who is an attractive woman and Keeley is allowed to talk to Jamie Tartt without it threatening what she has with Roy and all these people can exist as human beings without the introduction of romantic drama.)

KEELEY AND REBECCA. Their text thread. The affirming video call right before Rebecca goes into the restaurant. The way Keeley sits all snuggled up against Rebecca in her office.

I was pretty thoroughly spoiled for the Sam and Rebecca plot through 2x8, and I was bracing for something far more problematic and tortured than what happens in this episode. The words I would use to describe their scenes: awkward, cute, cringy, and understandable. There are a million reasons why this relationship isn’t sustainable, but I felt completely understanding of both their choices here. This show has a lot of thesis statements, but I keep going back to the idea from 2x1 that there are people who enter your life to help you get to the next point, and I think it’s entirely possible that Sam and Rebecca will mutually be that for each other.

I find comparisons between Rupert and Rebecca super upsetting. There are absolutely meaningful things to say about the irony of ending up in a situation with an uncomfortable resemblance to certain taboo elements of an ex’s situation. But that ex is abusive and manipulative and cruel and Rebecca has exhibited NONE of those behaviors, and it makes me really sad to think that people feel that the writers on this show have betrayed Rebecca in giving her this storyline.

As always, I reserve the right to keep blathering about this show. I’ve had a headache for a couple of days, but my head is also so full of 2x8 thoughts that I couldn’t keep them in even if the circumstances for writing this were not ideal. I kind of hate that I’ve included frustrated fandom thoughts within the analysis of what I felt was an absolutely gorgeous, complicated, heartbreaking, near-perfect episode of television, but if ya can’t be a little dramatic on your own tumblr while you’re feeling raw and under the weather, where can ya?

end of the year sap post

so another year has come and gone, and it has been....quite a lot, to say the least. and im not going to get into a god-awful amount of detail, but lets just say that it was very stressful when it was stressful, and sometimes enjoying really fun things was hard to do. i wrote a lot this year, now that i think about it. i started writing for different fandoms, i picked up several hyperfixations (and some havent dropped off yet) i created two wonderful brand new characters, who i love very much. and im really proud of myself for it. 

 im usually really bad at keeping up with stuff, and being consistent, but i really think that i did really well this year in writing, and creating new things and such. i go through hobbies like candy, but writing has stuck like glue lol. i went through a lot of really Not Good stuff this year, both in and out of fandom, and i just think that me being able to say “im still me” and stick to my values is really good. im really happy with what i created though. i dont compliment myself a lot, but im giving myself a pat on the back, and a big fat hug for everything that i’ve been through, and that i still have the courage to be here. and still loving my friends and family, and loving my hobbies. im really proud of myself, truly.

i couldnt have done a lot of that with my mutuals, both ones i talk to, and the ones that i dont anymore. theyre exceptionally kind, and funny, and keep me going. i couldnt be more thankful for their presence in my life.

(JJ would love to be friends with Alma). i can be found rereading her fics close to daily bc theyre literally so good, and when i have brainrot for a character that she’s written, i go straight to her masterlist.

@bisexualnathanyoung ry is super sweet :). i love talking to them (even if it’s just me screaming in the tags most of the time) i like hearing about their thoughts on stuff, and even tho i wanna punch him, their love for nathan young is incredible and unmatched. me 🤝 ry *tired of people in our respective states being rude about COVID stuff*

@badsext i love her so much :). somehow a lot of our conversations end up being about food (and make each other hungry). i love hearing about different stuff thats been going on in her life, and she also has really good show and movie recommendations. her short stories are phenomenal btw. very funny and nice :)

@magic-multicolored-miracle we dont talk much, BUT i really appreciate shye’s presence. she has really good taste in music, and works very hard. she made me fall in love with derek sandoval, and every chapter “idiot affectionate” has a deathgrip on me, as well as any updates about olive and jess’ livelihood. i love her posts about mass effect too (even tho im lost half the time lol) extremely talented.

@joz-stankovich got me hooked on bakugou and he has a fucking chokehold on me. (if u dont call him off, im gonna log him off of the earth permanently/j). they’re super talented. i was very excited (and still am) when they started having brainrot for BNHA stuff bc i was like “ah, another pal to share class 1-a thoughts with”. theyre also super duper talented and their writing is g r e a t. i love talking about country! kirishima with them, and art student! bakugou. brainrot hours? brainrot hours. also really good at art like keep some talent for the rest of us/lh.

@the-freckled-luba  we dont talk very much, but from june to mid september, the loki series was our braincell (as well as mobius), and our braincell ONLY. i love seeing the stuff you tag me in, and i really appreciate your good vibes! very sweet individual :)

First thing first, We all know he'd be a great dad. Protective already, But make him a yandere platonic father? Oh boy, Trust me, You'd be spoiled and treated like royalty.

Now, I'm gonna say in this scenario you were on of his victims child. I'll say you'll be around 5 to eight.

Somehow you managed to catch his eye, Is it because your parent was just as bad as his? You reminded him of his mother? Or maybe you resemble him, and have three moles on your ear. Or, perhaps, A younger joestar? Either way, You somehow had him feeling like a father, and, according to one of my friends, Araki had said DIO would treat his children like they were royalty, And they would be so spoiled.

So, Mudad would end up taking you in, kidnapping, whichever honestly. He'd be holding you like a loving pet owner would, if you got scared, he'd probably be confused. Honestly he'd have you turned into a vampire quickly, as he knew he wouldn't be able to have children as a Vampire.

Truthfully, I think you'd end up never noticing how he'd occasionally pull you closer, or how he'd glare at anyone your age or older going near you. Or how he'd give you some strict rules, Like no dating anyone. E v e r. And why would you ever want to hurt your papa like that?! You wouldn't want to do that, right?! Of course you wouldn't! Dio knew you'd never betray him like that!!

Truth be told, he'd guilt you if you tried to go against his words. But punishments? No no, He'd never actually purposefully hurt you, Unlike his love interest, he'd NEVER want to cause you pain ever. He'd hate himself and wouldn't forgive himself for years. Centuries. Infact, he'd beg for your forgiveness.

The Pillarmen

And satannnaaaaa

First of all, You aren't a pillarchild. You'd most likely be some kind of god, vampire, or a young hamon learner. Or even related to the Joestars or Ceasar.

So, Let's say you're immortal who can walk in the sun. We all know you'd be the joestar side, Right? So, That means you'd end up hating or feeling pity for the pillarmen. First, You'd probably end up trying to make Santana hally when he awakens. Unlike with Joseph, He'd probably know not to attempt to attack you. Let's say you have symbols like Dio Over heaven, We all know how that would work.

You'd end up as a being worshipped by them, probably kidnapped after they destroy the Joestars.

Let's say they defeated Joseph and the others, and you were still a deity, You'd most likely be weaker then them in this scenario. They'd probably treat you like a kitten at first, like a baby before they all felt a connection. As if you were a child of their own, so they'd give you rules. And we all know how rules go with yanderes.

Let's say uh- you fell for a mortal.

"No. No."

[Crush name has fallen from a high place.]

"DADS WHAT THE FUUUUUUUUU-"

"NO CUSSING IN THIS CHRISTIAN MINECRAFT SERVER!"

Honestly, You'd have bird dad, and a bunch of other dads. Santana would honestly be like the cool big brother honestly. You'd probably want horns too so-

They would totally buy you halloween horns to put on your head so you'd be happy baby

Now, Hamon user? They'd probably find you like a cute animal at first, probably going easy on you like it was a game of tag. Soon, they'd realize how weak and fragile you are, After all, You are just starting hamon. They'd probably kidnap you to spite Joseph and his side at first, before... Well, You didn't expect to become a vampire and treated like royalty when all you've been treated like is uh... Considering Lisalisa is your coach, I'd say you'd be happy if it was someone else doing this for you.

Josephs sibling? WOAH Joseph, When did you get a cute sibling? Pfft, Not your sibling anymore, They just adopted your ex sibling nerd.

But, All jokes aside, They'd probably be surprised that you were more mature then your brother, and...you sorta resemble a certain Coach... Oh, Humans all look the same, haha.

They'd probably kidnap you infront of Joseph just to make him feel guilt and rage, After all, Why not get their prized treasure and make Joseph angry? They'd give you more rules, until Joseph was gone, of course.

And, sadly, Not even you crying would stop them from making you into a vampire infront of your big brother, breaking both of your hearts.

Don't worry you got ice cream later smh.

Ceasars sibling? Mini pancake? Haha, They'd kidnap you as soon as they felt parent like tendencies. No denying them, infact, they'd make sure you saw ceasar get defeated by the ro ck. But don't worry! You have new parents and a brother-! Haha, Poor you.

Part 3 DIO AKA mudad!

Honest to god you'd probably have to be a stand user with a weak or strong stand, or, you were one of his kids he had with a lucky woman who survived and got a naked polaroid of him as a 'wow you lived! Congrats, now go have my kid lmao' gift. Or, Maybe you were a normal kid who was kind to him, even if he,,,,  did some questionable murder infront of you. And maybe you were a young

Now, Let's say you were a strong stand user. He'd end up wanting to use a flesh bud until he realized... He never had a kid, that he knows of, and decided to raise you! At first he'd be upset you had a strong stand like your mudad, but realized you could protect yourself from those dreadful joestars! Congrats, You became a Brando! :) How unlucky, Considering this DIO would probably force vampire masks onto you, or even using fleshbuds as a threat. Either way, You'll always be papas baby!

Like I said in my first post of this, He'd want to have a nice average life. You having a stand wouldn't be a problem, Since he'd probably convince you Josuke and the others are awful and rude.

Josukes sibling? Well, He'd end up telling you he can help your brother with his murder issue if you come with him. You don't exactly have a choice since Killer queen would easily overpower you if you had disagreed. You'd end up being a normal and peaceful child before long, Infact, He'd have to pretend he had adopted you behind his 'wifes' back.

Hayotos friend he never talks about? Congrats, You are now stuck with a crazy and loving father! And a mother, I suppose. And you get your best friend as a brother! You'd never be able to leave, how sad. But, You'd have your new mom and your dad to talk to-! And killer queen cuddle time.

Now, Let's say you were his own kid. Wowzers! You think its normal for your father to bring women hands home, after all, You are pretty young and your father told you most adults do this. Ah. How enjoyable.

Doppio/Diavolo

Oh dear. You poor child.

Either you were related to trish, and he somehow felt like you wouldn't be a problem before they felt more of a father love towards you, Most likely somehow getting rif of the traitors and your big sister.

Honestly You'd be kept under watch 24/7, but you'd think it was normal, after all, Your father would mever do something so awful like Those Joestars claim...right?

Akaashi gets soooo flustered when you start talking babies.

Because no matter how many different ways he looks at it, he thinks he’s not ready.

Especially when your newborn nephew gets dropped off for baby sitting.

How are you such a natural with kids?

Akaashi pretends not to notice the soft spoken voice you use for the baby.

Or the way it looks so natural, so right, to see you balancing him on your hip while you warm up a bottle.

He learned you’re also a co-sleeper and jump at the opportunity to nap with your nephew

But he can’t help but wonder if you’d do the same with your kids.

Then he starts panicking a little because he.’s falling down the rabbit hole of thinking he wouldn’t be a good dad.

Akaashi isn’t very vocal when it comes to his insecurities—it came with the territory of handling Bokuto for a couple years.

So when he’s sharing them with you, you naturally jump into overprotective mom girlfriend mode.

“Akaashi, I wouldn’t want to have kids with you if I didn’t think you’d be a good dad.”

Being married to Kuroo Tetsurou comes with a warning label.

One you had to recite as a vow.

“I will not bring up children until I am ready.”

You always thought it was a little weird when he asked you include something along those lines.

And, after a year, you sometimes forget your vow. You’re only human.

What else is human is this ADORABLE toddler in the car next to you guys at a stoplight who won’t stop waving at you.

“Aw, Tetsu look! Say hi!” The former captain’s eyes narrow questioningly, but he doesn’t say anything yet.

It only gets worse from here on out.

Why do kids like waving at you? Idk, but it happens pretty frequently.

Like when the two of you go out to eat and a baby in their high chair stops throwing their food on the ground, just to smile and babble as they look at you.

It makes you soft.

And, considering you’re sitting right in front of him, Kuroo sees the way your eyes become three shades lighter with every interaction.

“Remember your vow, baby.” He grits out, though the strain goes entirely over your head.

“Why did you make me say that anyway?” Kuroo never explained why—only begged that you included it.

“Cause once we start having kids, we aren’t stopping until you physically can’t anymore.”

“Hey, Tetsu?”

“Yeah?”

“Can we start when we get home?”

If you expected all of these to be happy hcs, I hate to disappoint.

But Tsukki wants to strangle you when you bring up kids.

He’s brought it up so many times that he does not want kids.

No matter how many times you fawn over your friends’ children.

Or how much you splurge on gifts when you have to attend a baby shower.

That last one in particular especially made him want to fight you.

You will tease and joke over and over how much you just want him to impregnate you.

But he is definitely going to deny impregnating you.

Until he overhears you on the phone with someone after getting home from work. Your mother, apparently.

“No, mom, he hasn’t proposed. Yes, I know we’ve been together for the better half of a decade, thanks for reminding me. No, you aren’t going to have any grandkids anytime soon.”

Oh. Was...was he doing something wrong?

“I should go, Toshi’s gonna be home soon.”

As soon as you open your bedroom door, you’re met with your stone-faced partner who was standing close enough that, if the door were still closed, he would have been pressed up against it.

“Are you upset with me?”

“Wha—no! No, you know how my mom gets...”

Ushijima may be a little dense, but he is at least somewhat aware enough to know when you’re lying.

“Let’s talk.” Not allowing you to escape, his large hands plant themselves on your shoulders just as firmly as his voice, leading the two of you to sit on the edge of the bed. “Is that what you want? A marriage? A family?”

“Of course, Toshi, I love you. We’ve been together for seven years—“

“Whatever you want, I will do for you.”

Tendou;

You had always told Tendou you didn’t want kids any time soon.

And he’s totally okay with—gives you two the chance to be just that.

So you both agreed to you going on birth control. IUD specifically, just so you didn’t have to worry about anything for a few years at a time.

Nothing to worry about!

Except seeing your best friend hold her newborn is doing funny things to you

And your other BFF just found out she’s pregnant

Now they’re both kinda just expecting you to follow in line

“You guys know I’m not ready.”

But they see just how tender you are with the newborn

Or how you’re very involved with the pregnant one, constantly asking her questions of what she’s feeling and how excited she is to be a mom

They know you too well—you’re already entertaining the idea.

So while you and Tendou are laying on the couch together, you try to nonchalantly bring it up. Try.

“How would you feel if I didn’t replace the IUD this time around? Hypothetically speaking, of course.”

Tendou’s typically bemused face perks up. “Oh? Making plans without me?”

“Wha—no! I’m just asking a question!”

“Mm, okay,” though his tone is light, there’s a bit of a teasing drawl, “then, hypothetically speaking, I would try to convince you to finally let me get you pregnant.”

“So where are you taking her for dinner?” Draco sat at the island in the kitchen, staring at George as George reached into the fridge to grab a beer.

“Uh. I don’t know. The Three Broomsticks? I don’t really know if you can call it a date.”

“Well, first off. The Three Broomsticks? Our bar? Don’t ruin the bar, dude. Take her literally anywhere else. Second off, why wouldn’t it be a date?” Draco asked.

“I don’t know, she’s the first person I’ve gone out with since Angelina.”

“Woah, big deal alert!” Y/N said as she walked into the kitchen, grabbing an apple from the fruit bowl. “I wanna be included in these conversations! I’m a girl, I can help.” She smiled.

“Yeah, but you’re Y/N. You’re like...you’re more like a puppy than a human girl.” Draco turned, giving her a disappointed look.

“Whatever, either way. I guess I’m nervous so I asked this girl out because I don’t really care how things end up with her.” George offered as an explanation. Y/N cringed at that. She knew she had to start getting used to how the men in this loft talked about women, but she couldn’t help but think of herself in that same scenario.

“Well, are you going to go hit the gym?” Draco asked. George furrowed his eyebrows.

“Why?”

“To get rid of your belly.”

“What are you talking about?” George asked, looking down at his stomach.

“The little pouch where you keep your extra cookies.” Y/N smiled, pinching her own little “kupa” as she and Ginny called it.

George stood in front of his mirror in his bedroom, his shirt lifted just enough to see his lower stomach. His brow was furrowed. He didn’t have that big of a tummy. Sure, he wasn’t carved like Draco, but who the hell had time to work out to be that muscular? It’s not like he had—what did Y/N call the look she liked?—a dad bod. He took his shirt all the way off.

He turned around and started playing music on his record player. Y/N had started showing him more muggle music, which was a bit more his vibe. Reggae started playing when he put the spindle on the vinyl. He turned it up as loud as it could get.

Y/N looked up when she heard the reggae music playing from her bedroom. She smiled, glad that George was enjoying the music she had introduced to him. She looked back down at the paper she was trying to grade, but kept getting distracted by the blaring music. She sighed, and thought for a moment. She didn’t want to ruin his appreciation for muggle music, but she really wanted to have these papers graded by the end of tonight so she could give them back to her students tomorrow. She got up from her bed.

“George!” She shouted over the music as she walked across the hall to his bedroom.

“George!” She called again, now knocking on the door. She supposed he couldn’t hear because of how loud the music was. She sighed, just opening the door as she rolled her eyes.

“Geo—oh my god.” She covered her mouth with her hand, the other hand still on the doorknob as she walked in to see George fully naked.

“Y/N! Get out!” George yelled, grabbing a pillow to cover his manhood. Y/N squealed out a giggle and slammed the door shut, running to her room. She closed the door to her own bedroom, now both hands covering her face. Just when she felt like she had gotten close to one of the guys in the loft, she saw him naked! She felt so embarrassed, and she couldn’t imagine how George felt.

“I saw George naked yesterday.” She whispered to the other three men in the loft’s kitchen.

“What?!”

“How?”

“Wait, you’ve seen George naked before I have?” Draco asked.

“Well, he was playing music really loud, and I kept yelling to turn it down. I even knocked on the door and waited, but I figured he couldn’t hear me, so I just walked in.”

“Oh god.” Harry put his head in his hands, leaning onto the kitchen island.

“Poor guy. He must be so embarrassed.” Said Neville.

“Well, not much to be embarrassed about, amiright?” Harry offered, lifting his head up and chuckling.

“Well, that’s true.” Neville laughed. It helped cheer Y/N up, and she laughed, nodding too.

“Wait, so all of you have seen George naked except for me? I haven’t seen one of my best friends—”

“Only friends—” Harry interrupted.

“Naked?!” Draco finished.

“It’s not a big deal. Why are you making this a thing?” Y/N asked, turning to Draco.

“Well, wait, how have you two seen him naked?” Draco asked, ignoring Y/N.

“He’s basically my brother. We grew up together. Shared locker rooms, bathrooms, pools, penis fights.” Harry shrugged.

“We were in the same house at Hogwarts. The guys all shared the bathrooms.” Neville offered.

“Literally what the fuck—” Draco droned on. Y/N heard George’s door open and rushed to the front door, attempting to block it.

“Listen George, I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to butt in on you while you were...well while you were doing whatever you were doing but you couldn’t hear me over the music!” George had sunglasses and a hat on, attempting to avoid anyone looking at him at all. When Y/N blocked the door, he walked up to her. Her breathing stopped when he came close to her, not expecting him to get so close. He picked her up from the armpits and moved her to the other side of him, quickly turning around and opening the door to make a quick attempt at leaving.

“That was awful.” Draco said from behind Y/N. “But at least you’ve seen his penis.” He sighed.

“Why do you WANT to see it?” Harry asked, also behind Y/N.

“What if he dies, and aurors need me to identify his body, but the only thing that’s left is his penis. I’ll have to say ‘Sorry officer, I can’t help, because I’ve never seen his penis.’” Draco said dramatically.

“Again, why do you want to see his penis?”

Y/N sat at the kitchen island, eating her dinner alone. George stormed into the apartment and into the kitchen, getting a beer out of the fridge.

“I have something for you!” Y/N said, grabbing her purse from the stool next to hers. She took out a stick decorated with phoenix feathers and other various animal feathers. “It’s a feeling wand. When someone has the feeling wand, they have to share their feelings. You see, I am feeling like I want to know what you’re feeling.” She smiled, jutting the wand out towards George. He gave her an empty stare, leaning against the counter, drinking his beer. He rolled his eyes, leaning onto the kitchen island. He grabbed the wand, and held it for a long moment. Then, he broke it in half.

“Believe it or not, this is not the first time someone has broken my feeling wand.” She looked back into her purse, pulling out a nearly identical, although significantly smaller wand. “So I keep a travel-sized one.” George rolled his eyes again. “Come on! Let’s just talk about it!”

“You want to talk about it? You ruined my date!”

George’s date, Persephone, welcomed him into her apartment. She grabbed his face, bringing her lips to his nearly immediately. George kissed back out of instinct, but as Persephone tried to take his shirt off, he inched away from her. She pulled away, furrowing her eyebrows.

“Do you want me to go first?” “Wha—”

Before George could even finish his thought, she had her shirt off, and she had not been wearing a bra. He gestured towards her, confused.

“What—look at you!”

“Okay, now it’s your turn!” She smiled. George mimed taking his shirt off and throwing it across the room. Persephone quirked her head to the side out of confusion.

“I don’t understand. Do you want to like...take it slow?”

Which is exactly how George ended up awkwardly cuddling with this girl for two hours before she fell asleep and he left.

“I didn’t mean to!”

“Any time I take off my clothes I just hear your weird little laugh! This is very damaging to my ego.” He yelled, walking to his room.

“I’m sorry! It wasn’t funny!” Y/N said, running in front of him and blocking the entrance to his bedroom. “You have a very beautiful...wand.”

“Then why did you laugh?” He crossed his arms.

“It was just an awkward moment and I don’t know how to deal with that!” George once again picked her up, turning around to set her down.

“You need to stop doing this! I’m trying to have a mature conversation!” Y/N yelled while he lifted her into the air, eyebrows furrowed in anger.

“A mature conversation? You laughed because you saw my penis, you can’t even say the word penis, and I’m the one stopping you from having this ‘mature’ conversation?” He asked, turning back around to face her.

“I’m sorry.” She sighed.

“I just want to have meaningless sex with beautiful women.” George sighed.

“Maybe you don’t want that! Maybe you’re not ready for that!”

“I have a wand. I want meaningless sex with beautiful women.” He rolled his eyes, turning around and entering his bedroom.

“You know what you have to do now?” Draco suddenly asked behind her, anyone could hear the devilish grin in his voice.

“What?” She asked, hoping he could point her in the right direction of fixing her friendship.

Which is how Y/N ended up butt naked wrapped in a towel, in George’s room, waiting for him to get back home. Now she faced his mirror, quickly opening and closing the towel. “I can do this.” She huffed. She turned around towards the door when she heard the front door open and shut, but quickly she heard a female voice moaning at George. “Oh my god.” She whispered, laying down quickly on the ground. She had never wished so much that she owned an invisibility cloak than she did at this very moment.

George and Persephone entered his bedroom, making out. Persephone sat on the bed, asking him to take his clothes off. With renewed confidence, he took his shirt off. Y/N started crawling towards the door, hoping the activities taking place would distract the two from seeing her. However, as George pulled his pants down, he came face to face with Y/N. They both started screaming, and she stood, abandoning the towel, attempting to escape. She couldn’t open the door, it was stuck. She closed her eyes tight, and breathed out.

“Can you open the door?” She asked, turning around. This time, George covered his face with one of his hands, trying not to laugh. Persephone was horrified.

While the nudity fiasco was happening, Neville, Harry, and Draco sat on the couch in the living room.

“I still don’t really understand why you want to see it so bad?” Harry asked.

“Look, it’s just weird. For some reason it’s making me feel left out. And you know what? I’ve been having a rough go lately. My students are really struggling to understand this one concept that I don’t know how to reteach to make it easier for them. Plus, the girl I've been in love with for a decade is very likely going to get married here soon.” He huffed.

Neville and Harry glanced at each other when he said this last thing. They had both had a feeling that he had been in love with their mutual friend, but he had never said anything. They both knew their fellow charms teacher and friend was engaged, and she had been one of the first people after the war to forgive and befriend Draco.

“We’ll see what we can do.”

George stood, ranting about privacy and personal space while holding the feeling wand. The other four in the apartment sat on the couch, this time Y/N was fully clothed. Harry raised his hand, requesting the feeling wand.

“I feel like Draco has been having a very tough time lately.” George furrowed his eyebrows, confused about what this had to do with anything he just said. Neville took the feeling wand next. “I feel like Draco has been friends with you for a really long time, and has gained your trust enough to see your penis.” Neville said, George covered his face with his hands.

“Oh my god, I need to move out.” George mumbled to himself. Neville handed Draco the feeling wand.

“I feel validated.” Y/N was really struggling to keep in her giggles at this point. She didn’t really understand why Draco cared so much, but found the other boys' support kind of endearing.

“THIS! This is what I mean! I just want to go one day without someone seeing or wanting to see my penis!” George yelled.

“I feel like George is yelling.” Neville said, holding the feeling wand. George snatched the feeling wand out of his hand and stormed off to his room.

George heard a knock at his bedroom door. “Come in.” He said. Y/N entered, her eyes covered and started knocking on the wall of his bedroom. “Y/N,” George laughed. “I said come in, you can stop knocking and open your eyes.”

“I’m sorry I ruined your hookup.” Y/N frowned, coming to lay next to George on his bed. “I really just wanted us to get back to normal and Draco said something along the lines of ‘he showed you his now you show him yours’ and for some reason I listened.”

“It’s okay. But it was definitely stupid to listen to Draco’s advice. Next time go to Harry for advice.” George laughed, turning on his side to face the girl next to him. She stared at the ceiling,

“I’ve been working on something.” She grinned, turning on her side to face him.

“Go for it.”

“Penis.” Y/N said calmly, without any hint of a smile or laugh.

“I’m proud of you.” George chuckled, reaching over to pat her shoulder. “I’m sorry I made this such a long thing. I think, by the way, that maybe you’re right. I don’t think I’m ready for meaningless sex with beautiful women.” He scrunched his nose.

“You mean Persephone won’t be coming back.” Y/N held back a smile, avoiding dumb thoughts in her head.

“She definitely won’t be coming back.” George laughed, remembering the fiasco. Y/N sat up, ready to leave. She paused when she got to the end of the bed, looking back at him.

“Did you...did you see like...everything?” Y/N’s cheeks shone red under George’s dim lighting in his room. He giggled.

“Yes.”

“Like—”

“Everything.” He confirmed. She blushed, standing up and walking to the door.

“Goodnight, George.” She turned around to smile at him.

“Goodnight, Y/N.” He smiled in return.

“Logan!” Roman called for the hundredth time. “Get in the water!”

He raised a hand to shield his eyes from the sun, but he still had to squint to make out Logan’s less-than-amused expression from where the other man sat on the edge of the dock.

“I will not,” he said with finality, turning another page in his book. “Unlike you, I don’t wish to get hypothermia.”

Roman scoffed, pushing his wet bangs out of his face. “It’s literally September, Specs, it’s not like we’re ice fishing over here.”

“Then I’d rather not risk getting sick from ingesting lake water.”

“Just keep your mouth shut, it’s not that hard! Well, it might be for you--”

Logan opened his mouth for another scathing retort, but he cut himself off with a gasp as two towel-covered arms wrapped around his shoulders.

“Ro, stop teasing Lo,” Patton said cheerfully. “And Lo, he’s right! The water feels so good today, are you sure you don’t wanna get in just a little?”

Logan huffed, but there was no heat in his voice as he replied, “I’m quite sure, Patton, but thank you. And please get off of me, your hair is dripping onto my shirt.”

Patton giggled, moving to the side and plopping down on the edge of the dock next to Logan.

“No, Patton,” Roman whined from below them, flopping onto his back and crossing his arms. “Come back in the water.”

“I’ll be back in a few minutes, Ro!” Patton assured him, fluffing his hair with the large beach towel still wrapped around his body. “Just need a breather, but then we can play more Marco Polo!”

Logan leaned forward looked closely at his red cheeks. “Are you getting too much sun?”

“I can’t have too much sun-- I’m a dad!”

Roman and Logan both groaned at the awful pun, and after a beat Roman ducked back beneath the slightly murky water. He kicked his legs, paddling back and forth with no real goal in mind. When he finally emerged, he was acually underneath the wooden dock, the tiny gaps in the planks casting specks of light on the dark water.

He shivered, both from the sudden darkness and from the lack of sun warming his skin, and turned to swim back out into the open--

Only to bump directly into a firm body floating in the water behind him.

Roman made a noise that was dangerously close to a shriek, shooting backwards and raising his hands appeasingly. It took less than a second for his brain to process the laughter, and he splashed the other figure in frustration.

“Not funny, Virgil!” he hissed. The other man continued to laugh, one hand coming up to grip the edge of the dock so that he could merely bob in place.

“Very funny, Roman,” he replied. “Where’s Pat?”

Roman jerked his head toward the other end of the dock. “Taking a break with the nutty professor. He’s still refusing to even get in the water!”

Virgil hummed. “Lame.”

“Right?” Roman huffed again, splashing the water just to watch it ripple.

“You know, I was gonna save these in case of an emergency--” Virgil started casually. Roman’s interest was immediately piqued.

“Whatever you’re planning, I am one hundred percent in,” he finished. Virgil grinned, and his hand move up to grab something on top of the dock.

“I found these on the beach earlier,” he explained. Roman swam closer just as Virgil pulled his hand back down. In his grip, he held two grey feathers, long and stiff.

The two made eye contact, and immediately broke into cheeky smiles as Virgil passed one of the feathers to Roman. They swam back to the other side of the dock, careful not to get the feathers wet as they moved through the water.

When they reached the edge of the dock, they could hear Logan and Patton lighting chatting above them. Patton was sitting criss-cross applesauce, leaving only Logan’s sandal-wearing feet dangling in the air above the water.

Roman opened his mouth, but Virgil shot a hand out to shush him before he could speak. He looked at Virgil, but the other man just smirked while raising his feather and spining it right next to Logan’s heel.

Then he fluttered it very lightly against the exposed part of his heel, and Logan’s leg twitched.

Virgil and Roman looked at each other with barely stifled laughter. Then Roman shot forward to swipe his feather along the outer side of Logan’s other foot.

Above them, they heard Logan’s voice stutter with a small gasp, and the two silently swam backwards from the edge of the dock in order to stay hidden. Sure enough, Logan’s hand came down to rub at the edge of his foot, but he didn’t catch sight of the two troublemakers lurking below.

By now, Roman and Virgil were both seriously struggling not to laugh, covering their mouths with one hand and gingerly holding the feathers with the other. They could’ve kept this going for quite some time, but honestly, it was only a matter of time before they broke their own cover, so the quickly swam back to the edge of the dock, just behind Logan’s feet.

And then they each grabbed one of Logan’s ankles in sync, and before he could even react, shoved each of their feathers in between his foot and the sole of his sandal.

The result was instantaneous: Logan shrieked, first at the shock of multiple things touching him, and then at the feeling of the soft feathers brushing haphazardly over his soles. He slammed his hands down on the deck loud enough to shake the boards above Virgil and Roman’s heads.

“Whahahat-- whahahahat?” he asked desperately through his laughter. His feet tried to swing away, but Roman tightened his grip on his ankle in order to keep his foot in place. Virgil, however, accidentally let his other ankle go, and the leg quickly disappeared back on top of the deck.

Roman scoffed. “Dude!”

“Oh, chill out,” Virgil retorted, his voice too bright to have any real malice. “I’ll get it.”

He swam out from underneath the dock to bob in the water in front of Logan, who was still snickering drastically as he rubbed the tingles away from the one foot he’d saved. Next to him, Patton was looking more than a bit amused at Logan’s seemingly random giggle fit.

“Hey, Virge,” he chirped, smiling down at the man in the water. “Whatcha got there?”

Virgil fluttered the feather between his fingers. “Just a souvenir.” He lowered the feather to graze delicately over Logan’s exposed toes, causing his laughter to heighten abruptly as he yanked the foot back even further.

“Nohoho!” he squealed, covering his toes with his hand. “No!”

Virgil narrowed his eyes. “You want me and Roman to tag team on the other one, then?”

He let the feather drift close to the foot Roman was still tickling, but Logan’s kicking suddenly got even more frantic.

“Do nohohot!” he insisted, clearly going for intimidating and failing adorably. “I’m going tohoho kihihill-- no!”

Roman looked at Virgil with confusion as Logan’s laughter suddenly spiked for seemingly no reason. Virgil looked back up, and his face quickly morphed into amused satisfaction.

“Thanks, Pat,” he said breezily. “Just make sure neither of you fall in while you’re tickling him.”

Immediately Roman brightened. “Oh, my God, I gotta see this.”

He slowly pulled the feather out from Logan’s sandal-- causing many more giggles as he did so-- and kept a grip on Logan’s ankle as he, too, swam out from under the dock. There, he could see Patton had enveloped Logan in a side hug, using his towel to trap him, and was now focusing on squeezing Logan’s sides and skittering his fingers all over his ribs.

Roman laughed loudly as he began tickling Logan’s foot again, sliding the long feather back into his shoe and flossing it back and forth. “You should’ve just gotten in the water, man!”

“It would’ve saved you a lot of trouble,” Virgil agreed. He let his feather trace from Logan’s toes, over the top of his foot, and up his ankle, even swirling around to wiggle at the back of his calf.

Patton clicked his tongue. “No way! This is way more fun than swimming, right, Lo?” He cocked his head as Logan only resond with squealing giggles. “Hm, I couldn’t quite hear you, but I bet you’re agreeing with me!”

Logan was in stiches, face upturned toward the sky as his laughter bellowed out of him. He was rocking back and forth, weakly trying to jerk his leg away from Roman and Virgil’s grips while also rocking away from Patton’s tickles to his upper body.

Until one particular gasping laugh made him lurch forward, too far to correct his balance, and his laughter turned into a scream of shock as he began to fall forward toward the water--

Immediately Virgil and Roman dropped the feathers, raising their hands and shoving against Logan’s chest with their palms to keep him from falling face first into the murky lake. Patton was ready, wrapping his arms around Logan’s shoulders and yanking him back until he was laying flat on the dock.

For a few seconds, the only noise was Logan’s panicked breathing. Then:

“Oh, my god, Logan, I’m so sorry--”

“Fuck, Jesus, fuck, that was way too close, we didn’t mean to--”

“Are you okay? Are you hurt? Are you okay?”

“I’m-- I’m fine, I’m fine,” Logan insisted, waving his hand to get his friends’ attention. “I’m-- okay. Nothing bad happened, I’m not hurt, and you-- you all. Saved me.”

His cheeks flushed a bit at his comment, but of course none of his friends even thought to tease him for it. Patton rubbed his upper arms soothingly as they sat up again; Virgil and Roman hoisted themselves back onto the dock until the four were sitting together.

“So whose idea was that?” he asked, trying to hide the small, involuntary smile at the memory of the tickle attack.

Roman immediately pointed to Virgil. “He found the feathers!”

“Dude!” Virgil said with faux indignation. “You sold me out!”

“Well, am I wrong?”

“Although, honestly, Lo,” Patton added, “you really thought we’d let you walk around like this and not take advantage of it?”

His fingers darted over to scribble at the tops of Logan’s toes. He made a nois between a gasp and a squeak, yanking his foot back again and covering them both with his hands.

“Enough,” he scolded, but everyone knew the blush on his cheeks wasn’t just sunburn. “Can we please go back to the cabin? You all smell like lake water.”

The snarky comment earned him several more ticklish pokes on his ribs and his toes, but there was a smile on his face that told them all the truth: he was more than okay with their silly games. And he’d most definitely be getting revenge later.
