I am so appreciative of the way Dimension 20 explores all the ways people can have bad parents. They show a lot of them and they explicitly call out when the parents are shitty. This post is mostly about episode 3 of FHJY and the AP.

Like in "Not All Who Wanda Are Lost," Kristen sees her estranged parents for the first time in a long time, and everyone acknowledges how hard and difficult it is! It's also eerie how good Brennan is at playing the different flavors of abusive parents. Like the "I don't wanna know" from Kristen's mom as Kristen tries to tell her about how Kristen is doing well living in a haunted house now. (Right after Kristen's mom explicitly asked how Kristen is doing!) Or how the Intrepid Heroes all seem to know that eldest daughter pressure, and Ally and Brennan both talk about how Bucky is under more stress now that the oldest daughter shield isn't around anymore. (I think Siobhan mentioned "this is my emotional support eldest daughter" in a Burrow's End Adventuring Party.)

And Adaine's dad wasn't just shitty bc he was going to kill her and Aelywn. He was also shitty for all the ways he abused them both the whole time. Even before Sophomore Year, the Abernants were explicitly called bad parents. In the "I Wanda'd In" Adventuring Party the Intrepid Heroes even discuss how it's complicated when you have shitty abusive parents but they cover the bills. No one said that maybe Adaine should have thought about the money before killing her dad, or in any way implied that the abuse would have been worth the financial support. They acknowledged the nuance of the situation. And how it leaves Adaine especially unprepared because she truly has never talked about finances. That conversation strikes the very specific kind of wistfulness that you have when you leave a bad situation, but some parts of the bad situation were easy in a way your life isn't easy anymore.

I have a lot more feelings about this that I can't turn into words quite yet. I'm still thinking on it. But it means so much to me.

Interesting that you ask such a thing! I have draft currently where someone asked something similar and it's got a scenario where Nat goes too far with Wanda, but I have yet to approach the subject with reader involved.

I apologize, this is going to be a bit long, but I guess it's more of a set of headcanons than a fic so uh.. bon apetit, hurt/comfort situation lovers

Honestly, it would depend on a lot of things: how close Wanda and Natasha are to reader when it happens, where they are (i.e. is it a public scolding that's more emotional or is it something in private/the bedroom), and who it is that actually hurts them.

Assuming they're in the current place ( game night ) when reader gets hurt, Wanda and Natasha would care a lot and want to right it as best they know how. Which.. is still not always the healthiest.

If it were Wanda...

Say she was tearing into you so harshly in front of other people that maybe you break down and cry or even just run away depending on the setting because really, who wants to cry in front of strangers, she would feel terrible.

Devastated honestly, Wanda's much more afraid of you pulling away than Natasha is; she needs you to see her as a constant safe space for anything and always wants to be the one you run towards, never from.

If it was during a meeting she couldn't immediately leave, Wanda would handle everything as quickly as possible, but in the meantime she's getting someone to check on you. Preferably Nat, but if she's too far, most likely it'd be Bucky or Sam. Anyone who she knows would keep you out of harm's way, but continue to keep an eye on you for her.

Because you never really have a chance to slip away.

As soon as possible, Wanda'd get to wherever you fled, putting on her gentlest demeanor, hoping you're not upset enough with her that she has to apologize.

But when she sees you're shying away from her, Wanda's heart breaks.

Again, we've seen it before a bit in forgive and (don't) forget, but Wanda hates thinking she's upset you enough to push you away.

She'd get you the world if you asked, anything to coax you into talking to her and helping her understand where she went wrong because she needs to fix it. It'll eat away at her if you don't at least start to forgive her by the end of the day.

But then if you get hurt during sex with her...

She's apologetic instantly, but much more in tune to your physical and mental state than if it was just verbal like above.

Wanda's such a touchy person she'd want to hold you so bad, but understands if you need time to come back to reality.

There's tons of reassurance though, especially while she's cleaning you up and getting you into a cozy space, "You did so well, dove. I should've checked in earlier."

And there's not a second where she lets you try to take the blame; she won't hear of it.

Speaking of blame, even if it were a pure accident Wanda would take on so much guilt. She struggles a lot with knowing whether or not she's making the right decisions (as best you can as a mob boss) and tries very hard not to hurt anyone.

Seeing you hurt by her own hands makes her lose so much trust in herself. So much so that she might not trust being around you without someone else around.

Wanda would only get close with Natasha around and even if both of you try assuring her you'll be okay in time, she's terrified that she hurt someone she cares so deeply about.

For Natasha, it's a bit of a different story...

Nat says hurtful shit all the time, it's just a part of dealing with her.

If she's the one who notices you upset, she'll ignore your reactions easily, knowing you're not brave enough to outright leave. Even if you did, she's tracked down much worse targets than a young girl with nowhere to go.

She'll wait it out as long as she can, hoping you'll give up and leave your room once you calm down so you can both move past it.

But god forbid, Wanda talks to you while you're still upset because then Nat knows she's in for it and now not only does she have to apologize, she has to deal with her angry wife.

Part of her apology entails her awkwardly telling you to brush it off because you know she didn't mean it and even though what she said still hurts, you've got to nod and say okay. Nat's not going to give you a better apology than what she's already offered.

Natasha sees you shying away from her just as quickly as Wanda does, but it doesn't bother her and she'd rather wait until you judge her as harmless yourself instead of coaxing you back to her like Wanda does.

If it's a physical incident...

Natasha tends to be notoriously terrible with words, but when it comes to actions, she'll make sure to right her wrongs.

Not much horrifies her besides hurting someone helpless and removed as she can be with you at times, Nat cares for you a lot and she's well aware of how much power she wields over you.

Consequently, when you get hurt on her watch, by her own misjudgment, she's the most protective you've ever seen her.

She'll bandage any wounds, even ice bruises you shyly insist you don't mind, shushing you each time you even try to diminish the pain you're in.

Because you fully expect her to tell you to brush it off like she does when she says something mean, even speaking up to tell her you're hurt is a struggle, having been scared she'd advise you to suck it up.

And Natasha hates that. So much.

After that, she tries her hardest to be gentler to you. Helping you along as you recover, fetching you whatever you happen to mention you need even faster than Wanda can... the whole nine yards.

Anything to show you she never relishes in causing you real harm.

This doesn't really mention how much it'd affect Wanda to see you hurt, but she'd be livid with Natasha, her own possessive nature wanting to huddle you away from her wife while she nursed to back to health.

But after some persistence, you convince Wanda to let Natasha help which does honestly surprise Natasha given how attached she knows you are to the brunette.

Even just that little bit of reassurance renews Natasha's confidence that she hasn't completely fucked up her relationship with you which yes, is something she worries about whenever accidents happen.

The combined exasperation from Ally and Murph at Fig's school skipping antics is so funny. Like Siobhan is invested in this as Adaine, but Ally and Murph seem so personally invested, it's hilarious.

Incredible pull on the title pun by Zac as always, I can't believe this didn't get Brennan more.

Okay, so my brain decided to start the day with an idea that is, for some reason, absolutely fucking hilarious to me right now:

So, you know that scene in Arcane where Vi pins Caitlyn up against a wall in an undercuts brothel and goes, "you're hot, cupcake"? Well, what if Agatha had a similar sort of nickname for Wanda (I'm thinking Red Velvet)?

Think about it: while in private together one day (Wanda'd probably been asking about what it's like to sleep with women), Agatha makes a comment about wondering what Wanda tastes like, and says something along the lines of, "I reckon you'd taste like red velvet [cake]."

Then, from then on, whenever they're out together (by themselves or with others) at somewhere that serves red Velvet cake, Agatha'll make a point of getting it and making some sort of innuendo while staring directly at Wanda as she eats.

Wanda gets flushed every time, 'cause she knows exactly what Agatha's insinuating, and also, how the fuck does she manage to make eating cake so fucking sensual?! (picture Wanda staring at Agatha's lips as the fork slides out of her mouth, and getting all flustered and hot and bothered 'cause what if that fork were her fingers, her nipples, her clit?!)

Eventually, though, Agatha crosses a line by making a (sexual) joke at the wrong time in front of the wrong people. Wanda sighs. "Good."

I don't know where to go after this, so maybe it ends, or maybe this ends up being how I start the kink alphabet or something. Or maybe Agatha just takes Wanda home and makes soft, sweet love to her as a second introduction to the different flavours of kinky gay sex.

Right! Detective time! So in the Adventuring Party episode 3 (I Wanda'd in) Brennan says the following at around 22:45:

'True story, Kipperlilly Copperkettle is a name of a PC I played a long, long time ago who was sort of a Tracy Flick-esque PC' (referencing the character from 'Election')

As for the people it was with, I found this Tumblr post with pics, basically saying it was ND Stevenson’s from back in the day, and was confirmed by one of the players in the reblog I think.

It was 2am when a table lamp's-worth of light filled Bastian's living room; Ron's fingers hovering on the switch as he ran the room's numbers through a scattier brain than the one he usually worked with. The tailwind of his twelve-weeker was the cause of his bother; the reason he was camping out on Baz's couch instead of spending his evening at home above his pub. Ever since his aunty May had nipped to Cali a few months back, he'd got into the habit of popping over for a night or so following his quarterly medical intervention. It settled his mind easier, having congenial company to exist in presence of, and even if it didn't - even if the meds hit him wrong and sent him sideways - Miss Wanda'd long ago proved herself to be something of a natural at wrangling her favourite Schizophrenic Brit.

Fingers left the switch once the room was found to be proper and Ron, nudged on by hunger and wracking insomnia, wobbled up to his feet and made tracks towards the apartment's modest kitchen in search of snacks. Like it had the new and unwanted scattiness in his brain, it was the jab he'd had that'd set his balance wonky; brought to him an air of a deer on sheet ice, all quaking knees and uncertain feet and--

Not five feet from the kitchen's open doorway, the fridge was opened; the light within pouring out upon the opener - Bastian, up at hell o'clock for the same reason Ron was; snacks. To He Of The Scattiest Of Brains however this sudden illumination and the figure within it didn't register as the person he most trusted in the world. All Ron got the chance to see was-

-low but firm and clear. A voice Ron knew and that, more importantly, Ron's brain - which could quite easily at this point be considered a separate entity from the man himself given the chemical bitch-slap he was still riding out - recognised too.

Wild eyed and hyperventilating, Ron goggled at Baz for a good ten seconds before realising quite how tightly he was gripping the poor man's arms. He loosened off quickly, found his feet, straightened up, though didn't flee from Bastian's touch like he might've once upon a time. Ron walked his hands up to his shoulders instead, nonsense syllables that fell out through a to-the-bones-relieved exhale escaping as he let his head hang low between his arms. There was a thank you in there somewhere; a thank God it's you, and an I love you too, if you counted how Ron's hands went on to settle, one cupping Bastian's neck, the other snuck upon his ribs so Ron could feel him breathing and, mimicking him, settle his.

After reading this I was also thinking about how they address Halariel and Gilear essentially abandoning Fabian.

Like even back in freshman year it was pointed out how neglectful and out of touch Halariel was to the point where Fabian had to call her out and tell her to get her act together during the fight at Seacaster Manor. But despite that she still seemed flippant and unconcerned with her son's feelings, especially now that she's leaving him alone for months right after he got back from literally saving the world.

I think that factors in to how dependent Fabian was/is on Bill because he was the only adult in the household that actually parented him (besides Cathilda, who I think he sees as more of a mother figure than Halariel but yk). After Halariel left, his situation is kind of similar to Adaine's in that while the abuse is more neglectful, he still is "taken care of" and left with enough money to keep himself comfortable.

That kind of contrast with Adaine is something they talk about in the AP, where Fabian always had access to his family's money and knew they were rich, flaunted it even, but Adaine never saw her parents as being wealthy.

It's something I've been thinking about a lot because we can kind of see in Fabian's interactions with adults that he's searching for those genuine and caring parental figures like Digby and Wilma.

I am so appreciative of the way Dimension 20 explores all the ways people can have bad parents. They show a lot of them and they explicitly call out when the parents are shitty. This post is mostly about episode 3 of FHJY and the AP.

Like in "Not All Who Wanda Are Lost," Kristen sees her estranged parents for the first time in a long time, and everyone acknowledges how hard and difficult it is! It's also eerie how good Brennan is at playing the different flavors of abusive parents. Like the "I don't wanna know" from Kristen's mom as Kristen tries to tell her about how Kristen is doing well living in a haunted house now. (Right after Kristen's mom explicitly asked how Kristen is doing!) Or how the Intrepid Heroes all seem to know that eldest daughter pressure, and Ally and Brennan both talk about how Bucky is under more stress now that the oldest daughter shield isn't around anymore. (I think Siobhan mentioned "this is my emotional support eldest daughter" in a Burrow's End Adventuring Party.)

And Adaine's dad wasn't just shitty bc he was going to kill her and Aelywn. He was also shitty for all the ways he abused them both the whole time. Even before Sophomore Year, the Abernants were explicitly called bad parents. In the "I Wanda'd In" Adventuring Party the Intrepid Heroes even discuss how it's complicated when you have shitty abusive parents but they cover the bills. No one said that maybe Adaine should have thought about the money before killing her dad, or in any way implied that the abuse would have been worth the financial support. They acknowledged the nuance of the situation. And how it leaves Adaine especially unprepared because she truly has never talked about finances. That conversation strikes the very specific kind of wistfulness that you have when you leave a bad situation, but some parts of the bad situation were easy in a way your life isn't easy anymore.

I have a lot more feelings about this that I can't turn into words quite yet. I'm still thinking on it. But it means so much to me.
