Okay, here we go then, why don't I like one of the most famous and prolific ships on the fandom?

First of all, there's a major power imbalance at play, you know, chaos god that can reshape mind and reality with a snap of his fingers matched with a regular pegasus girl, and an drastic age difference (which could be discarded cause Fluttershy's an adult, just worth a mention.)

But the primary issue comes from the canon itself, especially with how they came together. Fluttershy was just shafted for her full responsibility to be to make sure Discord gets better; Something that already was a strange choice of Celestia (like girl why are you throwing a random mortal you dont know that well onto a godlike chaos being even you struggled with? It reeks of writers already having come up a solution and not wanting to build a foundation to lead there.) and canon proves again and again that if discord doesnt have fluttershy around, he will make bad choices and hurt people, something that gets proven again and again all the way to gen fucking five. That's textbook codependency and it makes it even more weird by the incredible, terrifying power imbalance. Discord isnt just an alicorn, hes the only one of his kind because of how powerful he is, and his powers are insanely dangerous to have on a relationship with a mortal. Like, you saw how he was when he was jealous of Fluttershy for having a diffrent friend. Can you imagine what he'd do if somebody flirted with her? (even if they weren't dating, if Fluttershy said she got a girlfriend or whatever, Discord would straight up throw rainbow dash on a labyrinth of infinite agony)

I think my primary issues come from the canon because he is always abusing his powers, never using them wisely, and always causing trouble (WHICH WAS THE ORIGINAL POINT OF EVEN BRINGING HIM BACK TOO)-- And the ratio of slaps on the wrist lower dramatically by the end (the final conflict is entirely his fault purely because he thought having a conflict would be cool)-- All of which just makes him untrustworthy to be on a relationship with a mortal hes obssesed with. He'd be like a yandere boyfriend exept a chaos god, which, yikes!

Srsly the fact that cozy glow the toddler gets sent to hell and turned to stone instead of the chaos god that sponsored her is just plain WEIRD. It's a writers problem.

There's a reasons why Alicorns have to ascend, earn their power-- And why they tend to abuse it less. Being born with power just begets a diffrent attitude towards it; Which is smth that the writers do interpret quite well, with how Discord acts. he has no empathy, he doesnt need to care, because reality is his to shape, and then boom, teaching someone to be better just became a lot harder. Good character! Very funny, very well designed and voiced-- But goddamn he's weirdly written as a ""Good"" guy.

Now lets finally turn to the woman in the relationship. because Fluttershy is a normal mortal gal with a normal mortal life with her own needs, which generally shouldn't have to involve her entire life or routine on making sure a godlike manbaby does the right thing with his powers. it doesn't feel like the kind of thing that has any consent to it, after all, discord doesnt need to ask for anything, he can just do. (THANKS FOR THE IDEA CELESTIA) It just reeks of a kind of misoginy-ass writing where the woman has to bend over backwards for the man.

Its like the shy pegasus was just. Set up for LIFE on this strange relationship. Its kind of creepy.

And Fluttershy just deserves better than him in my opinion; And she can do better, too. Also it doesnt help that you know-- 99% other ship with fluttershy dont have any of these issues lmao. Even canon Rainbow Dash would treat her better, so i dont bother with Fluttercord ever!

Well, I figured there's no point in not showing these off here, as you'll likely start to see them in the background of my future photos.

These prints were made to go with the Fluttershy/Discord SDCC exclusive from 2016. They're rough drafts of the artwork used on the box for the set. I stumbled across them not long after getting into MLP back in January, and after seven months of pining and selling some dolls, I bought them.

While I love fluttercord, and the figures in the set are neat, what I really adore about that set is the box art, and seeing there existed prints of just the art by itself (albeit in an unfinished state), I just fell in love with them.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of documentation about these prints online, and if you see an old ebay listing with them, that's probably just the seller I bought these from. Unfortunately they didn't have much info either. Considering how huge G4 fandom is, how big of an event SDCC is, and being tied into a toy set of a very popular ship, I'm very shocked I haven't seen these posted about anywhere else. I would imagine more collectors would show something like this off, even if they aren't selling it. Makes me wonder if these were available to the public, or were just made for design crew or something. That's just my speculation though, and I could be missing something, not being familiar with old MLP forums.

Either way, I'm delighted to have them, and bought a frame so they can hang over my desk.

Erana Cotta, my Shred Force oc comforting Nordic Bunny after his long day, yet again defeated by Shred Force 🤍

Introduction of my Shred Force oc, Erana Cotta

Erana Cotta is a steampunk cyborg as most parts works on mechanical and not very advanced like modern technology.

She was once a human but was abducted to become a slave and used as a weapon during wars but she managed to escape from the humans. Nordic Bunny found her alone (was captivated by her songs which lead them to her) so he took her in to his headquarters and now has a new friend 🎸🤍

At first, originally idea was to make her have dark music, tall rock gothic but I already have ocs that represent that part so my friend suggested to go for Steampunk (version for classical music), she explained how rock has sub genres and alternatives so I'm convinced and making her look more like a classy lady in the 90s. Though I'm still going through under her design so this isn't exactly her official yet until I post her official reference soon.

So which makes Erana has two outfits, one is her old steampunk appearance and another new one (which she currently is wearing in the doodle above) is alternative rock steampunk, a touch of rock influence to her appearance as a sign her appreciation and love for Rock and Nordic Bunny who is also into rock 🎸🤍

One of her main powers is singing which helps fulfilled and regain energy to his minions (ref to Lilith from Hazbin Hotel)

At first their dynamic relationship was based off loser x goddess but after I watched Fluttercord moments, their dynamic is exactly how I imagined it would be. A loud cocky chaotic partner with deep insecurities and anxiety with a quiet soft partner who is also very vocal when she's alone with her partner whether she's expressed her love or having deep/serious discussion with him. Since Nordic Bunny has no one else but himself and his minions, it makes sense to me that the whole friendship AND relationship might still be complicated and new to him.

what's your opinion on fluttercord? i used to watch mlp as a kid but i never really followed plot, and i only started rewatching the series about a week ago. one thing i do remember from being a kid though was discords intro (? or maybe it was his ssecond ep) where he made the mane 6 the opposite of their element of harmony? does he get redeemed from there? is there a reason why he's shipped with fluttershy so much? sorry for the longish ask, just a little confused on the relationship dynamic

i LOOOVE fluttercord LOL i have drawn. a lot of fanart of them

but yes!! there’s a later episode (in like season 2 or 3) where celestia gets the mane 6 to try to reform him, so they take him out for a day and try to work with him. fluttershy is really the only one who is patient with him and shows him any compassion/trust, and who is eventually the one who gets him to try to be better. and it goes on from there, there’s a lot more episodes in the series that expand their friendship/dynamic !!!

he also shows up in the very last episode of the series (the one set in the future) and drops a packed lunch off (i think) for fluttershy really quick. so it’s kind of assumed they live together (???) idk it’s up for interpretation!! but just based on their interactions in the show, a lot of people ship them together haha. idk i just think they’re cute!!!! definitely not for everyone, but you’ll just have to keep watching and see what you think !!

But! Here's a couple of next gens I designed a few months ago! I do have a whole thing planned, but these two are the only ones with a solid design at the moment because big projects are hard

Dawn Glow is the daughter of Queen Twilight and Sunset Shimmer. She's the guardian of the Crystal Mirror, which serves as a portal to the human world, and carries a shard of it around to ensure that she is the only one that uses it.

Dusk Haze (they/he) is the son of Princess Luna and Stygian. They are the Keeper of Prophecies, and are able to conjure up a magic room where you live out your prophecy, similar to their mother's dreamwalking ability. He is blind as a result of lingering effects of his parents' respective corrupted states. He is also the guardian of the Staff of Sacanas, formerly wielded by the Storm King.

I do not have solid designs for other members of the next gen yet, but maybe I'll be able to circle back to this project someday when I have more energy lmao

Other ships featured in this next-gen are Fluttercord, Celestia and Sombra, Apple Jack/Rainbow Dash/Vapor Trail polyship, Rarity and Coco Pommel, Starlight and Trixie, and Pinkie with Cheese Sandwich. All of the next gens have names and some sort of vague concept idea behind them, just...struggling to get the motivation to actually design them, haha

Beetleshipping (adult!LydiaxBeetlejuice) and Fluttercord are NOT CP. Like, they’re my personal notp’s but I will vouch for the people who like this shit that they aren't predators by virtue. Also Lore Olympus and Twilight are also not ‘literally CP’. Or size differences.

Making a character a consenting adult-person for the purposes of shipping or r34 does NOT equate CP or 'zoo.

Now, I personally wish that fans of these sorts of things would understand that they are playing with fire. Yes it’s been done for years now; yes it’s not hurting anyone and can be your comfort zone; to paraphrase Jenny Nicholson “some people don’t know how to view things without the lens of shipping or going ‘but can I f*ck it’”, but you can use any good ‘clean’ fun in harmful ways. As someone who ships mortal enemies together in AUs, this 'talk' comes with the territory. I’d really prefer that you face the music once and awhile and acknowledge that og Lydia and BJ isn’t even a pairing it’s a demon trying to use a child-bride to break his confinement and enjoying it. That doesn’t mean you, the cartoon creators or the musical are AMORAL for going in a different direction, but maybe you and I should just use other tags so we don’t butt heads about this. No matter what-

Do you have any really silly mane six headcanons

Twilight Sparkle once smoked weed during her equivalent of college and to this day is terrified that Celestia will find out (Celestia already knows)

Twilight has very little knowledge of memes and her friends frequently have to explain new slang to her before she causes political scandals (“no Twilight ‘kys’ does not mean ‘keep yourself safe’”)

Much like a real horse, Twilight often falls asleep standing up during her late-night stress & study sessions. Spike has had to wake her up and tell her to go to bed numerous times

Twilight was that kid who reminded her teachers there was homework when they forgot. Her classmates didn’t really like her for that

Her love life is very…active lol, including when she’s in a stable and committed relationship (like active within that relationship not as a serial cheater). She loves learning new techniques if you catch my drift

Fluttershy is surprisingly confident when she’s attracted to someone, and when she’s in a committed relationship she has a lot of fun facts about animal mating patterns to share with them for…no particular reason

Unlike Twilight, Flutters is surprisingly well-versed in memes because she’s learned a lot from Discord (and also Treehugger). She doesn’t really understand the humor in all of them but she’s aware of them

(In a universe where FlutterCord is canon) She had to absolutely fight for her life in the Mane 6 meetups when she told her friends she was dating/crushing on him

Daring Do eventually loses popularity, partly because so many of her books involve actual artifact theft and social attitudes have changed, and partly because ponies just moved on to newer book series. Rainbow Dash still remains her biggest die-hard fan even when she looks pathetic doing so

Rainbow Dash acts like a big baby every time Tank hibernates for the rest of her life (he outlives her) but after the first few years it’s kind of silly

This isn’t an idea I came up with but I really like all the jokes about RD writing really bad fanfiction, and it’s a headcanon I subscribe to

(Mostly a joke because I do ship her with mares outside of my next gens) Rainbow Dash is straight but has a lot of mares asking her out because of her mane, and it’s hard to get stallions because they also think she’s gay. She also has a hard time relating to her friends who all like mares

RD doesn’t take good care of her hooves because she flies all the time and forgets to trim them due to not walking very much. Because of this, they look funky and overgrown and her friends kind of clown on her for it

When she’s older, Rainbow Dash wrecks some of her joints trying to do stunts that she did when she was younger (like carrying her “little” sister). She has the worst midlife crisis out of all her friends

When Rarity was a filly, she used to create the most elaborate and dramatic plotlines with her dolls that easily measured up to any soap opera, with betrayals, love triangles, custody battles, the whole works

She enjoys listening to soul-crushingly sad music (like Marina’s discography) during her ice cream-crying sessions, in the process roleplaying a life much more dysfunctional than she has because it helps her cope with her actual problems. Also listens to that music in a good mood if she needs to be inspired for a certain fashion piece

She overstocks her supplies to a sometimes comical extent, like she has 400 refills for her bedazzler machine. How does she have room for all that stuff? A lady never reveals her secrets, darling✨

Applejack loves singing country songs like “Thank God I’m A Country Colt” and “International Harvester” at the top of her lungs, they literally never fail to get her hyped up

(In a human context, ignoring Equestria Girls) it took her awhile to learn that Apple Bloom had TikTok and other social media accounts because she only uses Facebook on her clunky home computer

AJ is incapable of enjoying any kind of sitcom because she’s always poking holes in the plot. Her least favorite storylines are the “caught in a lie” and general miscommunication tropes

She also can’t watch well-written, dramatic tv shows either if any of the characters behave dishonestly (such as Breaking Bad)

Pinkie and Cheese once performed “Amish Paradise” for her parents and sisters (even in universes where they aren’t a couple). Reactions were VERY mixed

Also some of my “how they explain the birds and the bees to their kids” headcanons for my next gens are pretty funny

Fluttershy is really good at explaining the whole life cycle (including reproduction and death) because taking care of so many animals means she’s seen it all. Nothing squicks her out anymore. She explains things matter-of-factly but gently as she guides her little ones through various examples involving her animals.

Twilight would do a good job and be comfortable with it but she would also go overboard, giving a college-level lecture about the full reproductive process when her 10 year old daughter only wanted to know what going into heat meant. Twi’s partner calls Fluttershy in to help for the kid’s sake.

Rarity buys her daughter the pony equivalent of those Care & Keeping of You books (and her son gets the male equivalent of those books). She uses those books to bond with her kids over “becoming a mare/stallion.”

Applejack is very overprotective of Apple Bloom and probably procrastinated on giving her “the talk” only to find out that AB already learned from the other CMC (especially Scoot “left completely unsupervised 24/7” aloo /hj). A similar deal would probably happen with her own kids as well unless her partner is better about it. Even though, years before, Granny Smith was very straight with AJ like “ya wanna know how our new batch of chicks was made?”

Pinkie isn’t uncomfortable with the talk at all, except her explanation gets so convoluted and off topic that her kids go off to ask someone else.

Why Beauty and the Beast succeeds where Bride of Discord fails

Yes, yes, I know comparing a classic Disney film to a My Little Pony fanfiction/audio drama is comparing apples to oranges, but I had been thinking about these types of stories while planning out some fancomic ideas of my own.

Bride of Discord was a rather popular MLP fanfiction that was created by DisneyFanatic2364 after the episode Keep Calm and Flutter On came out, leading to the Fluttercord ship taking off. She decided to make a Beauty and the Beast AU about the two of them falling in love and getting married, and despite using most of the same plot beats as the Disney movie did, the order of those beats absolutely matters for keeping the story working.

The beats in common:

The Prisoner Exchange

Crying in her bedroom after said exchange is made

The impressive and personal gift

Playing in the snow/the budding friendship

The Mirror to see loved ones

The romantic dance

The frightening release

Rescue from the wolf attack

However, I arranged these scenes by the order that they happen in Bride of Discord, and this is where you start to see the real problems with DIsneyFanatic's fanfic version.

In the original Beauty and the Beast, Belle makes the choice to stay with the Beast on three separate occasions, each representing a different point in their relationship, but in the Bride of Discord fanfic, there are only two points for Fluttershy.

The first choice: the prisoner exchange. At this point, they sacrifice themselves in order to release their loved ones. But there is no love for their captors, only fear and sadness. Belle refused to have dinner with the Beast, didn't want to speak to him, and reacts with fear and avoidance.

And the second choice is really the plot point that makes Beauty and the Beast work, but everyone insisting that it's Stockholm syndrome/an abusive relationship tends to ignore.

When Beast frightens Belle, her reaction is to run as far away as possible, and regretting his actions, Beast rushes in to save her life from the pack of wolves. This is the point at which Belle first realizes that there is good in him after all, and when she sees him faint from his injuries, this is where she makes her second choice to stay.

She could have left him there to die from his injuries. And while we know she's too kind to do that, Belle still had a morally viable option of taking him back to the castle to leave him in the care of his servants, then leave and be on her way before he regains consciousness and recovers. But Belle chose to stay with him and tend to his wounds, thanking him for saving her life. This is why the story works: they don't form a friendship until Belle is making the choice to stay there of her own free will.

In Bride of Discord, Fluttershy is just sitting there as Discord's fiancée, she's not allowed to leave and see her friends, and even though Discord does do his best to make her feel comfortable, the truth is that Fluttershy is still befriending and falling in love with someone who continues to keep her prisoner. The grand gesture scene should not have been the turning point, because gift giving should be an expression of love already present, and in this situation it feels like Discord is doing an emotionally manipulative action to get Fluttershy to fall for him. For the Beast, the library scene is his expression of fondness for Belle, and at this point they're already friends.

And on the third point, after Belle leaves to care for her father, she says that the Beast is her friend, NOT her love interest. It's not until she goes back to the castle because his life is in danger that she finally realizes her feelings for him.

In Bride of Discord, Discord forces Fluttershy out at the very end of the audio drama, with the wolf rescue happening in the last scene, and that is mostly to demonstrate to Fluttershy's friends that Discord has changed. And the reason why she decides to go back isn't because Discord's life is in danger, it's because she feels bad about him being lonely. Sure at this point they did start over without a coercive marriage deal, but by this point most of the story has already happened and they have a LOT that they need to work on.

All this is to say, the order of the plot beats do matter and you simply cannot have a true friendship or love with anyone who is holding you prisoner, no matter how nice they are or how much they try and love bomb you with gifts.

Do you have any unpopular opinions about mlp fim? For instance, "Newbie Dash" is probably my favorite Rainbow Dash episode since I think it's the only episode that actually had her suffer some consequences due to her own hubris.

Oh, I have a few. For one I think Fluttercord as a concept is misogynistic as hell and a huge disservice to Fluttershy's character if not downright fuckin creepy. I used to be neutral on the ship but it's only gotten worse and worse with time. Another is just. I don't think Starlight Glimmer shoulda gotten all that screentime. I like a lot of the eps shes in, especially with Trixie, but I really didn't need her to be permeating through so much, feels like a strange self insert

One more for the road: I think the finale is kind of awful on a thematic and lore level. Like, emotionally wise, they reach all the high notes they could have ever wanted off the show, thats for sure, but like;

1 - I'm ideologically opposed to the idea that Cozy Glow is an irredeemable monster that belongs turned to stone or in tartarus. she's a fucking child and the writers think she's irredeemable. 2 - Generally Chrysalis Cozy and Tyrek are all a weird choice for ultimate trio for final bosses. Any of them have been their own world ending threats, I woulda preffered something new. Hell, I still think the mean 6 or at least anti Twilight coulda been a more interesting finale.

3 - If racism is THAT easy to bring back, then clearly theres an enormous systemic problem with all of the goddamn society, and oh, look at that, bc of g5, canonically we know that Equestria falls, and bc of the comics we know it falls on the lifetimes of the main 6. It's almost genious foreshadowing, how much Twilight's kingdom was built ona house of cards tbh.

4 - Celestia and Luna lose to Cozy Glow. Cozy Glow, a child alicorn, 1 v 2s them. That's unforgivable, insane, really fucking stupid.

5 - If the solution is friendship power, just like it has always fucking been, then why wasn't it the first choice to deal with the fucking problem, at this point the 38 minutes that build up to 'oh shit my friends are my power' feels completely superfluous man. Its lazy

6 - The final problem has that vibe of JKRs 'all was well' thing that glosses over some major damn problems, and well, considering the canon, even when i watched the first time I couldn't help but think I was watching a bunch of naive ass ponies trying to enjoy their final years together before Equestria fell to the damn brink. It's more bitter than sweet. Twilight Sparkle will watch all her friends die of old age hooray...!
