Planning and Design
Planning and designing a pixel animation in Adobe Photoshop and a tutorial to help beginners.
Originally, when I created my first animated characters, I designed a very basic walking silhouette-type stick figure and a simple outline of a standing man for my walking cycle project, because I tried to make it as simply as possible, but alas, the stick figures were a mess and it didn’t end as well as I had hoped. This experience taught me how easy it is to mess up a simple animation. So, I kept on thinking of other ideas to bring to life through animation. I discussed ideas with my friend, Jessica (another girl on the course), and she suggested that I create a ghost character, like the one I drew on the first day of the UCA Animation and Games Design Holiday Club, and I thought it was a brilliant idea. I instantly got out my original drawing of the simple ghost character, that we like to call Frank Sinatra. I scanned and uploaded my image, then I started drawing in Photoshop to ‘Frankenstein’ him to life.
When planning my animation character, I designed a ghost-like character on white card and then I traced the image onto an acetate plastic sheet, so that I could hand-animate it with ease by moving the two images independently. I decided to call my animated character Frank Sinatra, because, like the song, “I Did it My Way”.
Figure 1 - base character drawn on white card and overlaid character drawn on an acetate sheet.
Tumblr media
Figure 2 - the overlaid character has been moved into a new position by moving the acetate sheet over the base character on the white card, to give the appearance of movement.
Tumblr media
After creating my character by hand, I took several photos using the phone of one of the Arts Award Advisers, to use an animation app that they had installed. I chose a map background that could allow my character to travel the globe. The photos sequenced to create an animation that you could access by pressing play. The effect was amazing! Sadly, I don’t have a copy to upload for you to see, as it wasn’t my phone or app.
Moving on, the following tutorial will explain how to take a two-dimensional, hand-drawn image, or any other kind of image, to make an animation using Photoshop. To create your animation, you will need access to Adobe Photoshop (of course) and you will also need a rough-plan-sketch of what it is that you want to animate and what you want the animation to do, i.e. do you want to create a walk cycle, facial expressions, flying or hovering (like my character). You need to design your character, whether it is a cute ghost or a human being and so on.
To create my basic tutorial, I needed to learn the basics of Photoshop. I was very grateful to have been given the chance to attend the UCA Animation and Games Design Holiday Club; where I learned the basics of design and animation, I was also given the opportunity to access Adobe Photoshop for the very first time. I received a lot of help and support from the Arts Award Advisers; and met other people like me, who gave me a lot of encouragement. I was also introduced to Tumblr, where I am now blogging.
If you would like to follow my tutorial and create your own animation, you will need:
Access to an internet enabled PC/Mac or laptop/Macbook.
Access to Adobe Photoshop online.
A 2D image to upload to animate.
A plan, i.e. the action that you want your animation character to perform.
Time and patience.
This is a basic beginners, easy-to-follow tutorial, for anyone who is looking to start animating in Adobe Photoshop, for all ages. So, if you are a beginner and you want to try your hand at animation, then please, try my tutorial. I have tried to use simple language and instructions. I believe that everything I have explained, every instruction, is easy to understand. If not, please feel free to comment and I will do my best to help and rectify any problems. Your feedback posts will let me know if my tutorial has been a success or not. Anyway, I really hope that you find my tutorial useful.

Let’s Talk About Animal Crossing on the Switch
I can’t stop thinking about animal crossing on the switch. It’s taken up all the free time in my head. With E3 fast approaching the hype keeps building. So, I thought I’d make a post talking about my concerns and hopes for what’s coming. I tried to include things I don’t think other people have covered yet/ I haven’t seen anyone cover yet. But there will be some rehashed points.
To begin, i tried to vision what animal crossing on the switch would be like. In this conversion to the switch console, there were a few problems that came up. In this post I tried to organize my thoughts as best I could but you do have my apologies if this is messy.
Here goes my predictions, concerns, and hopes for Animal Crossing on switch:
something we’ve never seen before.
I’d like to first ask how different nintendo is going to make the game. Animal Crossing through its new releases has stayed pretty much the same but with a few tweaks in between, sometimes facing criticism for how almost nothing changes. But the switch console has a small history of shaking things up. with Legend of Zelda, Breath of the Wild, they gave Zelda fans an entirely different game that was very different than its previous by introducing an open world. With Super Mario Odyssey it appears very similar to super mario galaxy but in this game mario can fling his hat onto enemies and possess them ? ( I haven’t played odyssey but I know this is a new thing for the mario games). And my last example, Kirby Star Allies. I’ve never played any Kirby games but it appears to be that this is the first time multiplayer is being involved ? I could be wrong but that’s how its advertised. This all leads me to believe that something is going to be added. Some different amazing feature that will say, “Don’t buy the past Animal Crossing Games! Buy this one on the Switch ! It has *this * feature that the past animal crossing games don’t have!” this is my big prediction for the new game. i just don’t know what new thing they could offer..
my concerns.
1. Nintendo Online
One thing that would extremely effect my opinion on the whole thing is Nintendo Online. You know, having to pay for having access to online features? When Nintendo Online first showed up, I was very upset. The idea of having to pay for online services was crazy to me. This was because I don’t have a PlayStation or Xbox or at least haven’t played on one in years. Now I don’t really mind. $20 for 12 months? just a month after that initial purchase and it feels free because I got over the dent in my pocket. But I am just one person and this is how it was for me. I’m sure for some other people they are stuck playing offline because that price is something that they just can’t afford. Moving aside that for a second I’d like you to think about how many features in ACNL require internet. Dream addresses, going to a friends town, reading a qr code, etc.
Nintendo Online is something I didn’t think about until I considered solutions for different problems that came up while I made this post (that I’ll discuss later.) But, for example dream suites and visiting your friends town. It just feels weird to have to pay for things like that. But the more I think about it, the more I feel like that’s how it’s going to be.. sadly. Maybe they’ll introduce a new feature that would make paying for Nintendo Online worth it.
2. qr codes and designs
Currently on my 3ds it’s easy to work with patterns and qr codes. Making my own designs and taking pictures of other peoples qr codes is really easy. But a Nintendo switch presents a couple problems there. First is the obvious problem, the switch doesn’t have a camera. But I’ll tell you what, your phone does. I have Spaltoon 2 and it can connect to the Nintendo Switch app and that app can do a lot. So maybe I’d need to read qr codes with my phone instead. But there’s still a problem there. I usually use my phones screen to read a qr code, and I’m sure many other people do that too. There’s a solution to that as well but at that point it’s just less convenient than new leaf for the 3ds, and from a business standpoint, I’m supposed to be wanting to play the switch version more that the 3ds. So here’s where I remembered Nintendo Online. Maybe they could make an online database of designs and then qr codes become out of the question. Say, you go into the able sisters shop and theres an option to browse designs online. Kind of like how in the sims 4 you can have a profile and upload houses or families. I’m not really sure how much I like this option but it’s possible? Maybe. Alright now second problem with qr codes and designs, making them. Like I mentioned earlier, I have splatoon 2 and drawing on that is one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. But making a design in animal crossing is just pixel art so maybe it wont be that bad.
3. Save Files
The Nintendo Switch let’s you have multiple profiles on one console. Hopefully each one of those profiles get’s their own game. I don’t want to have to share a single town with everyone who uses my switch.
and that does it for my concerns. here’s my...
Hopes and Rambles:
Since the Switch only has one screen, the user interface will probably be like Animal Crossing City Folk from the Wii. It’s been forever since I played that. What im really curious about is the camera position. since there are two joy sticks on the switch, will the camera view be like breath of the wild or odyssey ? Something to think about.
different skin tones! maybe asking where you’re from to determine a skin tone. i know you could get tanner in new leaf but come on. easier way please.
 a separate pocket for tools.
I wish I didn’t have to go to my home or pull up my phone to see what an item or shirt looks like. I would like new sprites but that little leaf is so iconic I doubt that would change.
New furniture. I know there’s already so many sets but I don’t think more could hurt. i love the classic and sloppy series.
im so curious as to what the title is gonna be and how the story is gonna progress. are timmy and tommy gonna be grown up ? is tortimer die?
i think my biggest concern is whos mayor. i  really just want control. control over what the town looks like. for me the more control the better.

Destressor List: One Each for the Five Main Senses
So, it’s the holidays. School finals are coming up. Pretty much everyone who’ll end up reading this is probably a minority group in at least one way and has to deal with bullshit because of that.
I figure we’re all a bunch of stressed people. Therefore, here are some things you can do to relieve stress that may also even help with anxiety if you have it, like me. These are things that help me, so they won’t necessarily work for you, but it’s worth a shot.
Coloring apps:
Do you like art but don’t feel like you can create anything? Well, do you remember coloring books? There’s apps for that! For adults! There’s a plethora of pixel art apps that are basically color-by-number. I personally use Sandox because it includes a lot of pop culture stuff. The pictures can be simple or complex. Here’s some examples:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you’re feeling more traditionally ~artsy~ there’s also apps that are pretty much coloring books. I find you can do a lot creatively on Recolor with the free tools. Here’s one picture from start to finish.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You can surprisingly add extra details with crayons. Everything you see added in the third picture was done with the crayons. They can be solid or more transparent and require a bit more patience to use since it’s more than just tapping to make color appear. It’s worth noting that the crayons are not very crayon-like. I feel that I should add that while I did used to draw kinda-sorta decently, I CANT DRAW FOR SHIT anymore because of my tremors, but I can still do stuff like that with the app (Don’t look at those flowers too closely. They look okay in the whole context of the picture but if you zoom in you can see they’re actually just squiggles, ha). The last picture looks that way not because I did anything extra to the picture but because there are filters. I finished the coloring in the third.
Hot Beverages:
During winter especially, it feels good to drink something hot. My main go to is tea. Like coffee, you may not like what you first drink, but it’s a matter of finding what flavor, strength, and level of sweetness you like. Sugar, artificial sweeteners, honey, milk/cream/coffee creamer can all be added to offset the initial bitter brew. You can find crazy amounts of detail about how to brew tea, but you don’t have to try that hard. Just don’t steep longer than ten minutes, though you can steep less. Put a microwave safe mug full of water in a microwave for two minutes. Put the tea bag or infuser in the water to steep. Bam, tea. There’s floral tea, fruity tea, earthy tea, herbal tea, whatever flavors you think might sound good as a hot beverage and more. You can find caffeine free tea easily, but even the strongest teas typically have less than half the caffeine found in a home brewed cup of coffee. Here’s a graph:
Tumblr media
You can also go for hot chocolate(try homemade, it’s ridiculously good), hot apple cider(add cinnamon if you want), and decaf coffee. When it comes to coffee, if you want to relax, it has to be decaf.
Fuzzy Things:
When you’re feeling stressed, fuzzy things can be great, especially if they’re warm. Personally, I think the best option is a warm furry friend, but warm furry friends are not available to everyone. However, blankets are also great, and they do not have to necessarily be fuzzy if you’re not into that. You can sit and read on your phone (or scroll through Tumblr) or get a physically there book, watch Netflix/Hulu/cable/whatever you have. Pillows are a welcome addition. Heated blankets are awesome because w a r m t h, and if you’re a person who menstruates, it doubles as a way to ease cramps. On top of all that, you can also have a warm furry friend keep you company if you have one. Or any friend. Maybe even a human friend, why not, let’s gets crazy here.
Bake ALL of the Goods:
I already did taste with the hot beverages, and this is technically a heavy taste thing, but my favorite part of baking is probably the smell(especially bread. You wouldn’t believe how good homemade bread smells). Cookies are an easy one that most people enjoy the smell of and I could give you all SO MANY recipes. Like, you have no idea how many recipes I have. It’s ridiculous. You don’t need many tools for most cookie recipes, not even a hand mixer. In fact, sometimes you can’t use a hand mixture if the cookie dough is too thick. The catch is that you will have to give up on using a spoon near the end and dig your hands into it. No kneading techniques are necessary, but your hands are gonna go in the dough. If you cannot stand the way dough feels, then I’d recommend getting someone to finish mixing the dough for you or get already prepared dough. For a lot of people, however, dough is actually kinda fun to play with.
Here is my comparatively easy, completely unhealthy, absolutely amazing Super Secret Family Recipe for chocolate chip cookies. The base of this recipe can be found on the back of a Nestle chocolate chips bag, but if you compare the two, you’ll notice this one has been...modified.
Baking tools you absolutely need: two large bowls, measuring cups and spoons, baking sheet, something to mix wet(first six) ingredients. May use a large spoon, hand mixer, or stand mixer.
1 cup sugar
1 cup brown sugar (packed)
2/3 cup shortening (Crisco)
2/3 cup butter (1 1/2 sticks, softened)
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda (not powder!)
1 bag of Semi-sweet chocolate chips
1.) Preheat oven 375F or 190C
2.) In a large bowl, mix both sugars, shortening, butter, eggs, and vanilla together.
(Your butter needs to be soft. You may simply leave it out and let it come to room temperature or you may microwave it. Both ways work most efficiently if butter is cut into tabs. If you microwave, be careful! Don’t melt it. Microwave no more than 10 seconds at a time.)
3.) Sift flour, salt, and baking soda together in a separate large bowl.
(To sift, put all the ingredients in the bowl, then you may gently shake the bowl and/or whisk it. I shake the bowl, my grandma used a whisk. Both work fine.)
4.) Pour the dry (ingredients from number 3) ingredients into the wet and mix.
(It is easiest to do this by pouring the dry ingredients by roughly a third of the entire thing at a time. This is the point at which you should stop using a mixer, though you can keep using a large spoon until it becomes too difficult to do so. Mix the ingredients with your hands.)
5.) Fold in however many chocolate chips you want into the dough. I use about half a bag, but you can always use more or less based on your preference.
6.) Form balls of dough roughly one inch thick. You can use your hands, two spoons, or a cookie scooper(easiest). Place on baking sheet a couple inches apart. Bake for 9-12 minutes.
Yields: about 3-3 1/2 dozen cookies. Might give you four dozen if no one eats any cookie dough, I don’t know, never tried that.
Unfortunately, despite how many times I’ve made this, I don’t have a picture of cookies where I followed this recipe. I do, however, have one where I didn’t have shortening and substituted for another 2/3 cup of butter, totaling 3 sticks of butter. If you follow the recipe, the cookies will look similar, but less smooth than these:
Tumblr media
If you have any questions or want a different recipe, ask away or DM me. If you’re uncertain about how your dough is turning out, send me a picture and I will be able to tell you how to fix the dough if it needs fixing. Don’t worry, I have corrected every mistake you could fathom with this specific recipe. You won’t be bothering me with questions. In fact, I would love to help out with it. Send me pictures of the resulting cookies, if you’d like!
Music:
So, I’m a musician. Like, I study music education at a college known for their fine arts program. My main method of trying to relax and relieve anxiety always involves music. I do a lot of playing music, but listening to music is the most relaxing thing. My advice here is to branch out and try new music. Even music you’ve never considered before. We have over a thousand years worth of music that you can still listen to today, with endless variations, from all over the world, and you’d never run out of new music.
Listen to songs in languages you don’t understand. And no, I don’t just mean K-pop, though obviously that counts. People make music in every language you can think of. Music is one of the only constants in human history. There’s music for every emotion you can think of and some music paints pictures in your head if the performer is skilled enough. You don’t even need words to do that, either. It can make you feel things just with sound, if it’s good enough. I would recommend songs, but I would need to make a master list, honestly. If you want a starting point, you can give me an emotion, a genre, a time period, a language, a favorite instrument/voice type, and/or any other criteria and I can find something for you.

Been hankering to expand your computer arsenal with a tablet without going into hock? Here’s the deal you’ve been waiting for. On sale for $180 (was $230), the Samsung Galaxy Tab A7 weighs just over a pound and features 32GB of storage (expandable up to 1TB via microSD card). That’s got it all over Apple’s entry level tablet, which isn’t expandable. And unlike the iPad, the Tab A7’s 10.4-inch display has a full HD widescreen for immersive viewing.
Also out-Apple-ing Apple? The A7’s camera set is better than the one that comes with the iPad. It has an eight-megapixel selfie cam with a five-megapixel rear shooter on the front for video calls. “Mostly use for mobile gaming. Tried to play PS4 remote play, and it worked,” reported a satisfied gamer. “Sound is great and build quality is better than iPad. Speed is seamless.”

Just because it’s fun-in-the-sun season doesn’t mean you won’t need to keep yourself flush with new gaming challenges. We’ve found a great one. Watch Dogs: Legion for Xbox One (also compatible with Xbox Series X) is now on sale for nearly 70 percent off — down from $60 to just $20. This action/adventure game and third installment in the franchise from Ubisoft takes place in a near future where London is on the verge of collapse. All-seeing surveillance state and private military are in control, while the fate of the city is in the hands of DedSec, a hacker group that wants to fight back for freedom. It’s as fun as it sounds, and an absolute steal at this price.
“This game is very fun to play,” raved a happy gamer. “The setting is amazing and the attention to detail makes it better…. I bought this for my grandson and he absolutely loved the story so much, he accidentally stayed up all night long playing the game. He said the storyline is very interesting and fun to complete. He also says he likes the fact that you get to choose strangers off the streets to work on your team. What digital art program do you use
i mostly use photoshop, tho i also use other programms every now and then^^
here is a list of the programms i use together with my thoughts/opinion towards them;
Photoshop: great for all kinds of pictures and styles💗tho i’d recommend to get photoshop elements instead of cs/cc, because it’s easier to use, much cheaper and has all the tools that might be needed for drawing
PaintTool Sai: great for cell shading or drawing with the mouse and/or touchpad, very easy to use, tho i wouldn’t recommend using this when you’re still learning digital art as i know of multiple digital artists who had this as their first art software and have later been unable to switch to a different (better) one or just experienced unecessarly big dificulties while doing so...
Microsoft Paint: this one might seem like a joke at first but once you get the hang of it, it’s great for drawings with flat colors or making pixel art and becomes really fun to draw with❣ this is without a doubt the most difficult one to use but once you master it, it might become a strong ally
Autodesk Sketchbook: great and amazing brushes but lacks in everything else, thus great for doodles or sketches but i don’t recommend it for actual drawings, it’s just way too weak for that
IbisPaint: this is an app for smartphones... i don’t really like to draw on the phone, but when i do, i draw with ibispaintXD this app is definitely among the best art apps, or at the very least it’s the best free app for drawing❣ (never tried the apps you need to pay forXD)

I’m new to your blog but I guess you do pixel art and stuff and I was wondering what programs you use and the like because I was trying to get into it myself. Any help at all would be appreciated :)
Hey! I’m glad you like my art. :) I’m actually fairly new to doing pixel art, but thankfully it’s easy to pick up quickly in comparison to other types of art.
I mostly use two programs:On PC I use a program called Aseprite. It’s not the most complex piece of software, but it’s relatively cheap and very easy to use. It lets you work on multiple layers, save in any format you want, and it has basic animating capabilities. If you use Aseprite, you will probably have to resize your work after so that it’s not absurdly tiny, but you can do this in the same program. It helps to have an art tablet to use with this but isn’t strictly necessary. Aseprite is available through Steam or through their website here: [x]
I’ve also found a program that is good for doing pixel art on smartphones called Dotpict. Normally I find art apps for phones completely unusable – Dotpict is the exception. I’ve managed to do some pretty cool/elaborate stuff in it just messing around on my lunch breaks at work. It’s very basic and doesn’t have any fancy features, but it’s free and it works.
You could also look into doing pixel art in programs with vector graphics like Adobe Illustrator, Affinity Designer, or Inkscape (there are lots more than this, just some examples). I haven’t tried this yet myself, but there are definitely benefits to having your pixel art in vector form: [x]
There are lots of other programs you could try out as well – free trials are your friend! Feel free to ask me any more questions, and good luck! :)

Bury me, my Love Review — Experiencing the Other Side of the World Through Text
As I was playing through Bury me, my Love, in one of my interactions with the main character’s wife, Nour, I couldn’t help but catch myself in the moments where I found the game’s text-messaging interface fully believable. There was always that part in the back of my head reminding me that yes, I’m not really talking with another person on the other side of our text message exchanges. But more often than not, Bury me, my Love was able to cloud that illusion: to make following Nour’s trek across Europe feel as believable and real, as if it were my own loved one making a dangerous, life-changing journey.
Whenever I exchanged selfies with Nour or tried to cheer her up in a moment of defeat, I felt elation. Whenever she would tell me about the bus that she missed, the delayed train, or a run-in with aggressive law enforcement, I felt frustration. Whenever I didn’t hear from Nour at all for hours or even days, my mind started racing, wondering where she was, how she was doing, and just how much longer she had left on her journey and was safe.
youtube
In its essence, Bury me, my Love is a text-adventure game that was co-developed between Arte France, Figs, and The Pixel Hunt which has players–in the role of the main character, Majd–interacting through a text messaging app with his wife, Nour, over the course of its 1-2 hour running time. Taking place within the midst of the Syrian refugee crisis–effectively paralleling the events taking place in the country to this day–Nour decides to depart from Syria in the hopes of seeking a better life in Europe, as Majd stays behind to take care of his ailing parents. While the couple is physically separated from one another, Nour shares her journey with Majd through texts and gives him updates on the progress she has made towards Europe, along with sharing the various hardships and joys that she encounters along the way.
This interaction between Majd and Nour mostly plays out through a text messaging interface (which looks pretty similar to WhatsApp), where players choose between a few different dialogue options in their conversation with Nour. Many of these exchanges can be simple ways to keep the conversation going between Majd and Nour, but more often than not, the player will often end up making crucial decisions to help guide Nour’s trek. And while the game is short compared to most experiences, Bury me, my Love provides 19 different endings that can play out, giving a real sense of consequence that each playthrough of the story between Majd and Nour can have wildly different outcomes.
“Taking place within the midst of the Syrian refugee crisis, Bury me, my Love effectively parallels the events taking place in the country to this day.”
While Bury me, my Love may be limited in a gameplay-sense, it more than makes up for its shortcomings by delivering a wholly unique story that is bound by the player having to make some occasionally hard decisions, but it also never loses sight of its incredibly human sense of storytelling. Throughout the course of my conversations with Nour, I could feel nothing but compassion as she encountered roadblock after roadblock in her journey to Europe, constantly at the will of circumstances beyond her control politically, societally, and often just out of sheer bad luck.
With the game being simply a display of Majd’s phone and the string of text messages from Nour scrolling through (alongside some of the pictures that she and Majd exchange along the way), the core of the experience in Bury me, my Love has to be carried mainly through the writing, and in that sense the game delivers beautifully. All of the exchanges between Majd and Nour feel genuine and human, and even with just a short amount of time spent with the two characters, it’s incredibly easy to get a sense of their relationship and the love shared between them.
This is especially impressive when considering that the game’s text message dialogue system could have ended up feeling gimmicky or contrived in lesser hands. Thankfully, Bury me, my Love and its dialogue feels natural and engaging, especially when it has players deciding what they want to say next to Nour, whether that is to encourage her when she is feeling down, or trying to help make a key decision of where she should head to next.
“Bury me, my Love and its dialogue feels natural and engaging, especially when it has players deciding what they want to say next to Nour.”
With the game relying so heavily on dialogue to drive the action, there is an especially immersive sense of tension that comes from having to rely on Nour’s messages to hear and see from what is happening on her journey. While there are moments of levity and comedy that arise between Nour and Majd on her trip, such as her explaining the joy of finding a Starbucks or sharing her interactions with locals that she meets along the way, there are equally tense situations where the physical separation between the two adds to the sense of unease with Nour being on her own in a foreign place. In the situations where she was crossing country borders, I couldn’t help but be on edge waiting for her next response, along with an especially tense scene where Nour believes she is being followed by some street thugs, waiting for her next message with baited breath.
As Bury me, my Love first debuted on mobile in 2017, this week’s release of the game on Nintendo Switch and PC brings it over to a new audience to experience the journey for themselves. As I played through the game on Switch for my first time with it, I have to say that overall it seems that playing through the game on a console or PC seems to deliver its story effectively. However, I will say that at some point down the line I wouldn’t mind picking up Bury me, my Love on mobile, as it truly feels like the place where this game is best suited to be played. While the Switch version was a fine way to play through Bury me, my Love, I can only imagine that playing it on mobile would add far more weight to the sense of immersion that its developers intended the game to deliver.
In particular, the mobile version runs in real-time based on when Nour texts you, so you could potentially go hours or days (in real life) before hearing from her next, creating that uneasy sensation of waiting for a reply back and fearing for her safety. The Switch version, on the other hand, doesn’t have this real-time progression and simply fades to black and fast-forwards to her next message, which loses a bit of that tension and immersive feel that the mobile version has. However, the Switch version does offer the ability for players to rotate the display and play through the game vertically in handheld mode with the touchscreen, so you can at least get some of that mobile-style experience here.
“Bury me, my Love‘s very real, genuine sense of storytelling…feels contemporary and in tune with the events shaping our times.”
In a time when the plight of refugees and immigrants are being discussed to no end in the current events cycle of today, Bury me, my Love is a loving reminder of the human side of these discussions and their impact, thanks to its gripping story and sympathetic characters. Though the topic of incorporating “politics in games” has often drawn as much criticism as it has support, Bury me, my Love‘s very real, genuine sense of storytelling puts it in league with a small selection of games that attempt to feel contemporary and in tune with the events shaping our times. It takes on hard-hitting, sensitive issues that are intentionally meant to draw comparisons to what is happening in the real world, but does so in a way that feels far from being contrived or manipulative.
Though the game might best be played on mobile to really get an appreciation for how its developers intended the experience to be, regardless of where you play it, it will be hard to deny that Bury me, my Love won’t leave some sort of lasting impact next time you turn on the news, as Majd and Nour’s story is just one of many.
