It’s lonely at the top
Part 1 | part 2 | here / final part

“You need to give him some space,” Robin said over the phone. Eddie frowned. It’s been three days. He missed Steve. He nearly leaped over the couch to answer the phone, assuming it was him. Robin was the next best, he guessed. “You really hurt him.”
“I know,” Eddie said. “And I’m sorry. I really am. Will you tell him I’m done with the parties? Done with Trick? He means more to me than being liked.”
“Yeah,” Robin huffed. “You sure showed him that.”
“I mean it,” Eddie said honestly. “I do. I’m done with it all.”
“I think you need to tell him that yourself,” Robin said.
“How can I?” Eddie asked. “You won’t let me talk to him.”
“He doesn’t want to talk to you,” Robin corrected. “You need to let him be ready to accept you.”
Eddie sighed, pressing his forehead against the cabinet where the phone hung. He wished there was a way to tell Steve how sorry he was. As much as Eddie wanted to take the Green line to Robin’s dorm and talk to Steve, he can’t cross that boundary. But he needed a way to pour out his emotions, to let Steve know that he’s loved. That Eddie’s sorry. “Can I — Can I send him a letter? That way when he’s ready, he knows I’m there for him?”
There was silence on the other line as Robin thought it over. “Yeah, okay,” she said. “Just address it to me. He’s not …”
“Supposed to be there,” Eddie nodded. “Yeah. I figured. Thank you, for being there for him.”
“Yeah. Look,” Robin huffed. “If he does let you back in again, and you fuck up again. It’s your balls, Munson.”
“Understood,” Eddie said. “I promise. Never again.”
Robin hung up with a click. Eddie sighed, running his hands over his face. He fucked up. Bad.
He guessed there was no time to start writing like the present.

“Steve, someone at table 13 requested you personally,” Jenny, the hostess said. “He’s — uh — a little scary. So if you have issues, get Rod.”
“Thanks, Jenny,” Steve said, pulling his order book from his apron. He wasn’t sure who would request him at 3 pm. Most of his early birds on Saturdays stop by the diner for brunch and he barely saw a soul until 5.
When they first moved out to Chicago, Steve had no clue what he was going to do for work. He was attending Harold Washington College to get his associates in early education, and then potentially apply to UIC. Then one day, he got off a stop too early and saw the help wanted sign. It was easy for him to pick up, he made decent tips, and it worked with his schedule well. Plus, he was able to take home food at the end of his shift.
Robin’s been enjoying the pancakes lately.
Plus, Steve loved when it was slow and Eddie would —
He closed his eyes, letting the thought disappear. He missed Eddie. His heart ached any time he thought about him. But he was afraid that Eddie didn’t miss him in the same way.
He took a deep breath and plastered on a fake smile as he greeted his table.
“Hi, welcome in. I’m Steve. I’ll be taking care —“ Steve stopped as he looked at the patron. He felt his lips turn into a frown. “Trick?”
“Patrick’s fine,” Trick winked. “I mean, we’re in your court, aren’t we?”
“Yeah, sure,” Steve nodded. He pressed his lips together, feeling like he couldn’t stop staring at the black and blue circles under his eyes. “What happened to your — uh —“ he gestured to his own face. He winced. Trick didn’t like him in the first place. He wouldn’t give Steve the time of day. Why would he bother to tell him about an injury like that. “Sorry — shouldn’t have asked that. What can I get started for you?”
“Your boyfriend, actually,” Trick smirked. It was like ice water was dumped over Steve as the words washed over him. Trick’s smirk dropped. He leaned over the table. His voice dropped to a whisper. “Hey — hey, sorry. I didn’t mean — It’s cool. It’s — Eddie and you — are cool, I mean.”
Steve wasn’t sure if he felt any better or worse. All he could say was, “Oh.”
“Yeah, uh —“ Trick ran his fingers over his buzzed hair and exhaled. “Half of our friends are gay or lesbian or queer. It’s — that’s fine. Promise.”
“Oh,” Steve repeated. He sat on the other side of the booth, across from Trick. “Okay.”
“I just —“ Trick looked up to the ceiling before turning his attention back to Steve. “We shouldn’t have judged you. We saw you and immediate thought you were gonna be some straight jackass like we’ve dealt with our whole lives. We built this community of accepting outcasts, and outcasted you while doing so.”
Oh.
Steve wasn’t sure what to think.
When Eddie and him started to date, the Corroded Coffin boys treated him similarly. But Eddie called them out on that before it got bad.
Before it got like this.
“I guess what I wanted to say was sorry,” Trick said. “For pushing you out. And name calling.”
Steve furrowed his brow. “I don’t recall any name calling?”
“Yeah, you weren’t around for that,” Trick winced, gesturing to his nose. “Eddie made sure I knew that was wrong.”
“Eddie,” Steve breathed. “My Eddie?”
“Yep,” Trick said. “I hope he gave you a big apology for everything. So, tell me. What do you got that’s good to eat here?”
Steve took Trick’s order — one strawberry milkshake and an order of fruit loaded French toast — sent it to the kitchen, then went into the bathroom. He shut the door behind him and pulled out Eddie’s letter from his apron pocket. The first letter arrived last Monday. And he received a letter every day that he’s stayed with Robin.
With a shaky breath, Steve opened the letter.
💌💌💌💌
Dear Steve, there’s nothing in the world that I can do to make this up to you. But I will try every day to make sure that you don’t ever forgotten again. You are the stars that light my way home, the sun that brings warmth into my light, and the moon that shines love over me. To experience your love is something truly unreal. And to think I put you on the back burner for a taste of popularity? It was like the Ring of Power overtook my mind. I got lost in the feeling of being admired by many, I forgot what it’s like to be loved by one. I’d travel to Mordor and back for you. Through the Gap of Rohan and through the Mines of Mora.
In a world where everyone could know my name, I’d only want to know yours.
My apologies will never be enough. Love, Eddie
💌💌💌💌
I hope you are well. I hope your classes are going good and that you’re excelling. I know you are. You’re so fucking smart, you blow me away with every new piece of knowledge you brought home. I hope that basketball at the YMCA is going good. I’m sorry I missed your last couple of games. There is no excuse. I hope one day you’d allow me to be by your side again, cheering you on.
You deserve the world, baby. Nothing will stop me from showing you that. Everything from the water in the rivers to the trees in the forest. From the canyons in Arizona to the mountains in Colorado. It’s yours. It’s all yours. You deserve everything. You deserve the best. And I promise that I will prove that.
Forever in love, Eddie
💌💌💌💌
I’d move heaven and hell
Just to see you smile again
Or remember how it felt
To have you in my arms
When I begged God for mercy
In the depth of hells
It was nothing compared
To begging for the mercy of you
To hear you laugh, to see you smile
To counting the stars across your skin
To pick up where we left off
To start all over again
I’d move heaven and hell for you
💌💌💌💌
Steve folded the letters, slipping them back into the envelope and set them on his nightstand.
He laid back down, turning to his side. Eddie’s side of the bed was empty. Like it has been for four days.
After Steve read the first letter, he found his way back to their apartment. Eddie was hope and nearly wrapped his arms around Steve, stopping as if there was an invisible barrier in between them. Eddie stopped, respecting that boundary at the threshold.
It was Steve to crack.
Steve who took that step over the threshold and fell into Eddie’s arms, burying his face into Eddie’s neck. Eddie wrapped his arms around Steve, holding him tight. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” was all Eddie could say.
They agreed they needed to slowly integrate back into each others’ lives. Communicate when they’re feeling alone and listen when one’s feeling distressed. Nightmares seemed easier to deal with, but they were going to work it through.
Eddie said he would sleep on the couch until Steve was ready for him. “No matter how long it takes, sweetheart,” Eddie said, pressing a kiss against Steve’s knuckles. “When you’re ready for me, I’m here.”
And Eddie truly meant that. They could go back to just friends and Eddie would accept it. He would be heartbroken, but to have Steve in his life again?
That’s worth everything to Eddie.
Eddie was jostled awake, feeling the couch cushion shift underneath him. The blanket on his body lifted up and a familiar weight settle on his chest. He felt at home again. Eddie tugged the blanket back over the both of them, one hand around Steve’s waist and the other tangled in his hair as Steve laid his head on Eddie’s chest. Eddie pressed a kiss to Steve’s temple, taking a silent vow to never lose him again.
“Goodnight, sweetheart.”

I've read a manhwa with the plot of MC being in a marriage of convenience with the ML in their first life and they work hard to make it work/feel like an actual marriage but the guy didn't give it much thought so they died and in their second life, the MC just decided to not focus on the guy but that somehow attracted the guy's attention
So that premise with Mydei (or Phainon, I just thought it suited Mydei more) where in reader's first life they had loved him and dedicated their whole being to him but they end up dying so in their second life they were more confrontational and willing to potentially piss off Mydei but that just had the opposite effect on him.
Bonus I guess if he remembers what reader did after a certain time and makes him fall harder (or go full on yan route idm)
Yandere!Mydei x Reader
[Artist]
Tumblr media
You had loved him once.
It was a quiet, steady love, the kind built on careful devotion rather than reckless passion. A love that manifested in the way you always reached for his hand in public, in the way you made him pomegranate juice exactly as he liked it, in the way you handled every social obligation so he wouldn’t have to. A love that, despite being arranged, had been genuine on your part.
Mydei, however, had never given you much thought.
Your marriage had been one of convenience, a political arrangement that benefited both parties, nothing more. You knew that. You had known it from the start. But knowing didn’t stop you from hoping, didn’t stop you from trying to be someone he could come to love.
Yet you had tried.
You learned his preferences. You shielded him from trivial nuisances. You defended him against enemies in court. You ensured his home was warm when he returned, even if he never cared whether you were there waiting or not. You gave him everything you had to offer, even as your own needs went unnoticed, unfulfilled.
And then, one day, you died.
It was an illness, slow but inevitable. The kind that ate away at you little by little until there was nothing left to give. You had fought to stay by his side, to live long enough for him to notice you, to care. But as you lay on your deathbed, your body weak, your breath shallow, Mydei had stood beside you with the same unreadable expression he always wore.
“It’s unfortunate” he had said, his voice calm. “But there’s nothing to be done.”
He hadn’t held your hand. Hadn’t begged you to stay. Hadn’t even asked if you were afraid. And so you died, alone in a marriage that had never truly been shared.
But then, against all reason, you awoke again.
A second life. A second chance.
And this time, you wouldn’t waste it on him.
----
The first time you met Mydei again in your new life, he had the same detached expression, but this time, you weren’t the same.
“Oh. It’s you.” he said, mildly surprised.
You stared at him, deadpan. “Tragic, isn’t it?”
He blinked at you, clearly taken aback. In your past life, you would have smiled softly, eager to please. Now, you met his gaze with all the warmth of an ice sculpture.
“You seem different.” he noted, as though observing the weather.
“Yes, well, dying does that to a person.” You crossed your arms. “But don’t worry, I’m not here to cater to your every whim anymore. I have better things to do.”
His brow furrowed slightly, a reaction so subtle you might have missed it if you hadn’t known him so well. It was funny. For the first time, Mydei found himself unsure of how to proceed.
Days turned to weeks, and you continued to avoid him as much as possible. When you couldn’t, you treated him with polite indifference.
“Here, I brought you tea.”
Mydei raised a brow. “Tea?”
“I just grabbed the first thing I saw.” You sipped your own drink with a smirk, watching as he hesitated before taking a sip. No more pomegranate juice, but you made no move to correct it. Let him suffer.
He gave you a long, unreadable look, then quietly finished the tea anyway.
You weren’t sure when it started, but Mydei began seeking you out more often. Not for anything important, just small, meaningless interactions that, in your first life, he would have ignored entirely.
“You’re busy” he observed one day, watching you pour over books in the library.
“You’re perceptive” you deadpanned, not looking up.
“I can help.”
You finally met his gaze, incredulous. “You? Help? With something that doesn’t benefit you?”
“I’m capable of generosity” he replied smoothly.
You scoffed. “Sure. And I’m the Empress of the Universe.”
To your growing unease, Mydei only chuckled, as if thoroughly enjoying the challenge you presented. If he had ignored your love in your past life, he now seemed intent on prying into your every thought in this one.
You weren’t sure which was worse.
What made it all the more complicated was that Mydei had no idea you had already lived and died once before. To him, this was just the first time you had ever looked at him with anything less than quiet admiration. And while he couldn’t understand what had changed, he was undeniably intrigued.
-----
The third prince’s birthday celebration was an unavoidable event. No matter how much you wanted to stay far away from Mydei, you were both expected to attend.
Dressed in formal attire, you entered the grand hall, carefully ignoring Mydei’s presence beside you.
As expected, the noble ladies flocked to him almost immediately, their voices sickly sweet.
“Mydei, you look as composed as ever” one simpered, lightly touching his sleeve. “Surely you must save a dance for me?”
“And me as well” another chimed in. “It’s not often we get to see you at these gatherings.”
You sipped your drink and turned away, uninterested.
Mydei, however, seemed less inclined to entertain them. His gaze flickered to you, watching your utter lack of reaction.
“You’re ignoring me” he murmured, stepping closer.
You didn’t even glance at him. “Congratulations, you’re learning.”
His lips twitched slightly, as if amused. “Are you jealous?”
You turned to him at last, offering the driest look you could muster. “If I had a single grain of salt for every second I cared, I wouldn’t even be able to season a meal.”
He chuckled. And you had the distinct feeling Mydei wasn’t going to let you ignore him forever.
Sensing your chance to leave, you excused yourself quietly and slipped away. You navigated through the bustling crowd until you reached the gardens, where the young third prince stood alone, watching the lanterns flicker above. You wished him a happy birthday, exchanged brief pleasantries before excusing yourself, intent on leaving before anyone noticed. Unbeknownst to you, Mydei had followed—watching from the shadows as you spoke to the young prince with a warmth you had never once given him in this lifetime.
The door shut behind you with a quiet click as you stepped into your quarters, letting out a sigh of relief. The evening had been long. You had done your part, made an appearance, and now you could finally shed the pretense of civility and rest.
You barely had time to unfasten the heavy jewelry weighing on your ears before there was a knock at the door. Your brows furrowed. It was late. Too late for someone to be calling on you unless it was urgent.
Still, you already had a sinking feeling about who it was.
“Enter” you called, bracing yourself.
The door opened, and sure enough, Mydei stepped inside. His usually pristine attire was slightly disheveled, his coat unbuttoned at the collar. But what truly caught your attention was the way he moved, slower, more deliberate, as if something was weighing on him.
He had never been one to drink, and yet, something about him seemed... off.
You sighed. “It’s late, Mydei.”
“You left early” he countered, shutting the door behind him. His voice was calm, but there was an edge to it—something quiet and simmering beneath the surface. “Without informing me.”
“I wasn’t aware I needed your permission to retire for the night” you replied dryly, turning away. “Now, if you’ll excuse me—”
“I saw you” Mydei interrupted.
You stilled. “Saw me?”
“With the third prince” he clarified, stepping closer. “In the gardens. You seemed… close.”
You exhaled through your nose. “He’s a child, Mydei. I was wishing him a happy birthday.”
“And yet, you looked at him with more warmth than you’ve ever spared me.”
You turned to face him then, brows arching. “Are you jealous?”
Mydei didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he studied you. He took another step forward, invading your space, forcing you to tilt your head slightly to maintain eye contact.
“Would it matter if I was?” he asked at last.
You scoffed, stepping back. “No. Because it wouldn’t change anything.”
Mydei was a man of control. To be thrown off balance, to be met with resistance where he once found compliance, was undoubtedly foreign to him.
Good. Let him feel what you had felt all those years.
You turned away, signaling the conversation was over. “Go sleep, Mydei. We have nothing more to discuss.”
For a moment, he didn’t move. Then, finally, he let out a quiet chuckle, a sound devoid of humor. “You truly are different now.”
You didn’t respond. Didn’t look back.
Because if you did, you might have noticed the way his fingers curled slightly at his sides. And you might have realized that Mydei was far from willing to let things be.
-----
Over the next few days, Mydei seemed to have an unusual amount of free time. His duties, which once kept him busy, were now seemingly cast aside. Wherever you went, he was there.
It started subtly: walking in step with you through the halls, his presence a quiet shadow. Then it grew bolder. Sitting beside you at meals, his knee brushing against yours and never pulling away. Standing behind you, fingertips grazing the small of your back under the guise of guiding you forward.
You would have ignored it, written it off as coincidence—if not for the way his touch lingered. The way he reached for your hand absentmindedly, as if it were second nature.
One evening, as you sat by the window, lost in thought, you felt it again, his hand, warm and steady, against your shoulder. A familiar presence, yet wholly unfamiliar in its intent.
“You’ve been avoiding me” Mydei murmured.
“I’ve been living my life” you corrected, not looking up.
His fingers curled slightly, almost as if to pull you closer, but he hesitated. “And yet, somehow, I find myself a part of it more than before.”
You turned to him then, meeting his gaze directly. “Perhaps you should ask yourself why that is.”
A smirk ghosted his lips, though his eyes held something heavier. “Oh, I have.”
You had tolerated it long enough. Mydei’s constant presence, his lingering touches, the way he hovered around you as if he had never been indifferent.
The final straw came when he followed you into the private study, an intimate space he had never once stepped foot in before. You slammed the book you were holding onto the table and turned to face him, irritation burning in your chest.
"Enough!" Your voice was firm, unwavering. "What exactly do you want from me, Mydei?"
He arched a brow, unfazed. "I would think that’s obvious."
You scoffed. "Obvious? You ignored me for years, treated our marriage as a mere obligation, and now—now you cling to my side like a shadow. Why?" Your breath hitched slightly, but you pushed forward. "Is it because I no longer chase after you? Because I finally see this marriage for what it is?"
A flicker of something passed through his eyes—something unreadable. He took a step closer, but you raised a hand, stopping him in his tracks.
"No" you said sharply. "No more. This ends now. I want a divorce."
For the first time since his sudden shift in behavior, Mydei’s expression darkened. "You don’t mean that."
"I do." You met his gaze head-on. "I refuse to stay shackled in a marriage that was never real."
He exhaled slowly, as if reining himself in. "And what makes you think I'll allow it?"
Your fingers clenched into fists. "Because it’s not your decision to make."
"You truly have changed."
You didn’t back down. "And I intend to keep it that way."
His eyes lingered on you, calculating, something darker stirring beneath the surface. Then, as if making a silent decision, he took another step forward.
"Then let's see how far you’re willing to go" he murmured.
-----
Determined to push him into agreeing, you invited Duke Laurent, a respected noble and someone with a clear interest in you, to visit. If Mydei would not agree to divorce out of reason, perhaps jealousy would make him let go.
Just as you began conversing with the duke, Mydei’s arm suddenly snaked around your waist, pulling you flush against him. You stiffened at the public display of intimacy, something he had never once shown before. The duke’s expression remained polite, though there was clear tension in the air.
Mydei leaned in, his lips brushing dangerously close to your ear. "You think bringing another man here will make me release you?"
He turned his gaze to the duke, his expression composed but lethal. "You see, we are still very much married."
Before you could shove him away, he tilted your chin up and pressed a slow, deliberate kiss to the corner of your lips, just enough to make the moment scandalous.
"Mydei—" You hissed, shoving at his chest, but his grip remained firm.
Then came his final blow, spoken with a smirk against your skin. "If you truly wish to fulfill the divorce, then surely, as tradition dictates, our marriage must bear an heir first. Otherwise, it would be incomplete."
The audacity of it, the sheer arrogance—
Fury surged through you. Without thinking, you leaned in and bit his shoulder, hard enough to make him tense, hard enough to leave a mark through his fine fabric. Just hoping it'll make him let you go. He inhaled sharply, but instead of anger, something else flickered in his gaze. Interest.
His grip on you tightened, fingers pressing into your waist. "How intriguing" he murmured, almost amused. "You’re becoming more and more fascinating."
You could only glare, breathless with anger, as he leaned in even closer. "I’ve decided—I shall never let you alone."
That night, Mydei made his final decision.
You found yourself restless, pacing in your chambers, feeling trapped in a game you never agreed to play. The door creaked open, and you didn’t need to turn to know it was him.
"Leave!" you ordered without looking up.
Instead, he stepped inside, shutting the door behind him. "You asked for a divorce. I gave you my terms," he said smoothly. "But I have a better idea."
You turned, narrowing your eyes. "I don't care for your ideas, Mydei. I want my freedom."
"And I want you," he countered effortlessly, closing the distance between you. "So, it seems we are at an impasse."
He reached out, tracing a hand over your wrist. "You see, I’ve realized something," he murmured, his voice quieter now, almost reverent. "I cannot let you go."
"Then you will have to learn."
"No" he whispered, leaning in "I will simply ensure that you never wish to leave."
This was no longer a battle of marriage or freedom.
This was war.
Then, his voice dropped to a chilling whisper. "If you try to run, I will find you. If you seek another, I will ruin them. And if you deny me..." His fingers trailed over your throat, "I will make sure you have nowhere to go but back to me."
"You wouldn’t dare."
"Wouldn’t I?" The smirk on his face only triggered you more. "You forget, my dear, I am not a man who lets go of what is his. And you? You belong to me."
A slow, measured pause before he added, "So fight me if you must. Hate me, struggle, scream. But in the end, you will always return to me. I will make sure of it."
---
Another day passed. Nothing happened. Until-
You were sitting stiffly in your chambers, the weight of Mydei’s last words still pressing against your mind.
Mydei entered, once again without your consent.
A goblet sat before you, filled with deep crimson liquid—the rich, unmistakable hue of pomegranate juice. It was his favorite, something he drank often, something he had tried countless times to get you to enjoy.
“I had the servants prepare this just for you” Mydei said smoothly, swirling the liquid in his own goblet. “It would be such a shame if you ignored my gift.”
You hesitated, glancing at the drink. Something about his tone made you wary, but refusing would only stretch this moment further. You reached for the goblet, only for Mydei to intercept, his fingers ghosting over yours as he picked it up himself.
“Let me.”
His hand cupped your chin, tilting your head slightly. Before you could react, the cool rim of the goblet pressed against your lips, the sweet aroma of pomegranate thick in the air. The moment the liquid touched your tongue, warmth flooded through your body. A strange, numbing sensation curled through your veins, heavy and inescapable. Your limbs felt sluggish, the world turning soft around the edges.
Your breath hitched as your body betrayed you, sinking against the silk sheets.
Through your hazy vision, you saw Mydei standing by the door, watching. His expression was unreadable, his hands clasped behind his back.
“Rest well, my dear”
But he didn’t leave.
Instead, he moved closer, his fingers brushing against your cheek before he slid into the bed beside you. His arms wrapped around you, firm yet deceptively gentle, caging you against him. The warmth of his body seeped into yours, and in your hazy state, resistance felt… unnecessary.
“You’ll understand soon” he whispered, his breath fanning against your ear. “You don’t need to fight anymore. Just listen to me.”
Your thoughts wavered, slipping further into a fog. Your body felt too heavy to move, your mind too sluggish to argue. His presence, once suffocating, now felt… inevitable.
Through the night, he held you close, his grip never loosening. Each time your thoughts stirred, his voice was there, murmuring soft reassurances, reinforcing his presence, reminding you he was always there.
By the time morning light crept through the curtains, your mind was no longer as sharp as before. The idea of pulling away seemed distant, unnecessary.
He was still here.
His arms remained locked around you, as if this was how it had always been. His breath, slow and even, ghosted against the side of your neck, warm yet oppressive.
“Awake already?” His voice was low, thick with the drowsiness of someone who had slept well.
You swallowed, trying to shift, only to realize just how intimately entangled the two of you were. One of his legs had hooked over yours, anchoring you beneath the weight of him. His fingers, idly tracing over the fabric of your nightclothes, stopped just at your wrist, where his hold subtly tightened.
You were trapped.
“I need to get up” you muttered, voice still hoarse from sleep.
Mydei didn’t loosen his grip. If anything, his arms curled around you more securely, pressing you deeper against his chest. “You don’t, actually,” he murmured. “Stay.”
Something in his voice made your stomach twist. There was no plea, no request, just the quiet certainty of a man who had already decided what would happen.
“I have things to do” you tried again, frustration slipping into your tone. “You can’t just—”
“Can’t I?” Mydei interrupted lazily, propping himself up on one elbow so he could look down at you properly. His hair was slightly tousled, falling over sharp eyes that gleamed with something unreadable. “You haven’t been well. I think it’s best if you rest today.”
“I feel fine” you lied, pushing against his chest.
He caught your wrist easily, his thumb pressing against the rapid beat of your pulse. “Do you?” His smile was slow, knowing. “You still look dazed. You’re warm. If I didn’t know better, I’d think you were falling ill.”
Mydei had always been perceptive, dangerously so. And in this moment, with your thoughts still sluggish, you knew you were at a disadvantage.
“Mydei,” you tried to keep your voice steady, “what did you do?”
His grip on your wrist didn’t waver, but his expression softened into something almost… fond.
“I’ve merely helped you see things clearly.” His fingers traced over your knuckles before he lifted your hand, pressing a slow, lingering kiss against your palm. His lips curved against your skin. “You always try to run. You make things so difficult for yourself.”
“You drugged me.”
Mydei sighed, tilting his head as if mildly disappointed. “It was just a little something to help you relax. To stop you from making rash decisions.” He leaned in closer, his nose grazing against your cheek before his lips brushed against the shell of your ear. “You wouldn’t want to make any rash decisions, would you?”
A surge of unease coursed through you, your body screaming to move—to fight. But your limbs still felt leaden, and Mydei knew it. He had planned for it.
“I thought we had an agreement” you gritted out. “You can’t keep me here like this.”
“What do you mean by 'keep you'? You’re mine, my dear. You always have been.”
Your breath hitched as he finally released your wrist—only to cup your jaw, forcing you to look at him properly.
“You’ll understand soon enough.”

"What a hassle..."
*He running away when he saw there was a party waitting for him.
"Did Kalim told you to do this? Jamil didn't said anything either?"
"I- thank you."
"Huh?"
"Why?"
"Did someone force you to do this?"
5.
"Who ask?"
"Me too, hehe."
"And you telling me this because?"
"...do i know you?"
"As if i care."
"Wow, you thought you was someone important to me for me to care that much?"
"Then go away?"
"So?"
"You wasting my time, you know that?"
6.
presume the one ignore them was their lovers
"Why are you ignore me? Was i do something wrong? Please, i hate being like this, Jade..."
"Eh? Trey? Pay attention to meeeeeee."
"I just give Cheka a headpat and now you sulking with me? Really, Leo-san?"
*He crying. Azul then have to appease him and promise that he still love Erol.
"You know that not working on me right Kalim? Do you one me to pull that trick instead?"
"What did i do this time to upset you, Vil-san..."
"I'M SORRY... please don't ignore me Dia-san..."
"Are you in bad mood right now? Or i just fuck up something? Talk to me, Floyd."
"It's... fine i guess. I used to be ignore anyway..."
7.
"What are you doing?"
"Am i that famous?"
"Attention seeker much?"
"...and here i thought only Floyd could make some scene."
"Uh oh. Why is everyone looking at me? I'm not doing anything."
*Sigh* "I hate it here."
*He use his unique magic to run away.
"You're even worst than Sebek, and that boy only cause scenes when it relate to Malleus-senpai."
*Bold of you to assume that Nevi show up in public.
8.
"No."
"Gladly." *progress to pull a loudest voice he could produce.
*Side eyes that person until they coward away.
*He stare blankly at that person, until the twins magically appear in front of them and ask Erol what's wrong. That doesn't end well...
"Told Kalim instead, he is a person people after all."
"You're crazy."
"Do you want me to blackmail you instead?"
"You have some gut for told me to do that. And that's not a compliment."
"Why i have to do that?"
9.
"Really? Jade said that? Let's me ask him then, and i'll do that if it's real. And if not... you dead."
"TREYYYYY, DO YOU REALLY WANT ME TO GO WITH THIS BUGGY TODAY INSTEAD OF YOU?"
"As if Leo-san would tell me to do that. Next time try to be more creative, yeah?"
"I- did Azul really told me to sing in front of you and your frie-" *He didn't finish his sentence, as Azul appear behind him with his sinister smile.
"You sound too suspicious. What do you plotting now you peasant."
*He call Vil for comfirmation, after the housewarden denying he didn't said anything like that, Vermeil give that person a death stare, then go away.
*Deadpanned. Then go away, he didn't want to deal with stupid people.
"Oh, so FLOYD LEECH told me to do that huh? Bring him here, make him tell it himself, then i comply." *The unhinged Leech happen to pass by that time, let's say after that no one dare to put word in either of them mouth anymore.
*He doesn't even let that person finish the sentence and teleport to somewhere else. It's happen to be Malleus dorm room. After Nevi ask him if the thing that person want him to do was real. And of course it's not real. Then they cuddle. (Malleus ask Lilia to find the person who have a gut to mess with his mate, then make sure that person never try to do anything like that again).
10.
"Don't want to, thank anyway."
"Oh. Party? Can i invite my boyfriend and friends too?"
"I have enough with social gathering, thank you very much."
"S-sorry, i'm busy right now."
"Sorry, i'm already join one, the one Kalim organize at Scarabia. Do you want to join instead?"
"Can i refuse it?"
"Uh uh, no party, i hate loud place, sorry."
"Did you invite wrong person? I'm not Malleus-senpai."
*The person was too scare to approach him, let's alone invite him to social gathering.
11.
"Isn't it a little bit too much? I don't have money to pay you back you know."
"I know it's out of character for me, but fancy restaurant doesn't suit me at all, i'm sorry."
"Are you try to impress me?"
"Do you want to go to Monstro Lounge instead? I have a discount for worker in there."
"Fancy lancy. At least you have some taste."
"Uh oh, you're rich."
"Can we not-"
"Oh, really?"
"My sincere thanks to you, but i'm afraid i can not join you for dinner right now."

hiiii !!! so i dont know if it was u who wrote an arthur x reader fic where reader wears their fathers glasses to read? im pretty sure it wasnt, but i thought of it as a good idea. so, what im asking is, would u be comfortable writing something with reader wearing glasses but instead of not seeing things near they don't see things far away. so they're going through life blurry and arthur notices because they keep bumping into things bc they have no sense of depth without their glasses. offers to make them an appointment for eye doctor and helps them choose the glasses and everything ? thought it would be cute (╥﹏╥)
Tumblr media
arthur morgan x blind female reader
꒰ 𝝑𓏲 ꒱ wearing my glasses right now as i write this :)
Tumblr media
“sweetheart, 'm right here— no, 'm here—... y'alrigh'?”
“... i think so.”
that was probably the fourth time u have walked into something? no one else wasn't really sure why, but only because u didn't tell anyone. it was like a secret of urs that u have kept for a long while.
arthur was really the only man who knew u struggled with ur eyesight for as long as u can remember. shooting was a huge problem that u avoid as much as u could despite living in an outlaw gang, arthur would do best his best to help u, but it never went well. u couldn't even hit a bottle!
shooting was definitely not in ur skills. no matter the number of times that arthur willing helps u shoot a gun or help u aim better, nothing worked. u always still managed to shoot a tree or shoot at.. basically nothing, u always missed the three empty bottles he placed for u to gun at.
“mr morgan, i can't— i can't see that bottle, 's too far.”
“want me to bring it closer?”
of course he did. undeniably, he's always had a soft spot for you, but it's not like he'd admit anyone else in camp or you, especially. he treated u like a fragile girl, which u weren't too far from. having bad eyesight did make u feel more vulnerable and fragile, and arthur knew this. makes him just a little protective with you as he's often seen with his fingers intertwined with urs or his arm rests around ur waist. it gave yoy sense of safety and.. comfort.
sometimes the silly man might forget just how blind you really are:( he'd never mean to! he'd just be so so focused on something and he'd bring you with him and it just slips his mind simply!
“arthur, wait—!” you'd say as u try to catch up to his pace, ur hands slightly out just in case u fall. “oh, 'm sorry, sweetheart. 'm right 'ere.”
but now, he decided to help you, proper this time. the two of u are on his horse whike trotting away, your hands around his torso tightly incase you fall or anything like such. you had no idea where he was taking you though, his words being “'s a secret, but nothin' too big, y'know?” nonetheless, you were just glad that he out if camp, noticing how stressed he would be until his blue-green eyes would set on you:(
“... saint denis? what do you have planned, arthur?” you say with a small giggle, looking at him while he's looking straight onto the road in front of him. “jus' a nice day out. you 'n' me.” he replied. huh. a nice day out. just a day out. but days were him were never often that simple, usually ended with someone recognising from blackwater or another robbery, or you talking him out of beating a man for making you uncomfortable. you thanked him regardless, making sure you're safe and well.
then he hitches off his hourse, you follow suit...the doctor's office? what was he doing here? i mean, he's fine, right? you're fine too except your eyesight, of course. wait, was he—
“c'mon, darlin'. yer fine, i promise ya.” he says as he sticks his arm to you, waiting for you to hold his arm before walking into the building. he knew you were slightly anxious about it, but he was willing to help you in any way he could.
a man like him... blood on his hands, lives taken because of him, rough and callous from hard work, a man like him with all bite and bark like a violent dog. that man bring a sweet girl like you to the doctor's office to get you sorted out with a new pair of glasses. ♡

Valentine's day countdown: First date - Shadow the Hedghog
Pairing: Shadow the hedghog x female reader Tags: fluff, comfort, awkward crush. Word count: 750. Prompt: you and Shadow have been friends for a while, and although he has a massive crush on you and is dying to have you as more than a friend he's not willing to take that step (secretly he's very insecure okay) after a little encouragement from Sonic he asked you out he never imagined how it would end. Notes: First valentine's day prompt and what better way to start it than with my eternal love Shadow. I'm love/romance depraved so these promts will be fluff in its cheesiest and purest form (like melting chocolate in a super sweet cotton candy ice cream with a Cherry on top kind of sickeningly sweet) This time I'll try a different style so let me know if you like it.
Tumblr media
Shadow wasn't afraid of anything. He was the ultimate lifeform after all, then… why did his pulse quicken every time he was near you? Why did he feel his palms get wet each time you smiled at him? Why did his fight or flight response activated every time you were there?
Shadow wasn't afraid of anything. But maybe, maybe he was afraid of what he felt for you, afraid that he would become addicted to the feeling of you caressing his cheek, afraid that he couldn't go on without seeing the sparkle in your eyes every day, afraid of getting used to the warmth of your hand on his, afraid that if he said a word of what he felt he would lose you, because let's be honest, who could love a monster like him?
He was unsure, and every time that happened he went to Rouge, however the bat was not at home, so he went to his second best worst option. Sonic
Sonic with his usual cocky grin as Shadow explained the situation. Sonic, the same Sonic that he punched every chance he got just to release some stress and because he enjoyed it, the same Sonic that screwed up time and time again running away from Amy was the one that Shadow had decided to approach for romantic advice.
“Just don't think too much about it Shads” Sonic had said ”She likes you, trust me”
“Easier said than done”
“Well, it's either that or you'll be stuck with ' what could’ve been' forever.”
Honestly, Sonic hadn't been much help, but at least he had planted the seed of doubt in Shadow. What would be the worst that could happen if he kept his feelings to himself? You would probably find someone, that someone would take your hand, receive your caresses, taste your lips and you would forget about him, leaving him aside, alone, unloved.
No. Shadow wouldn't let that happen, the little bit of love he got from you was too addictive and he wasn't about to let anyone else have it. He had made up his mind and although the chances of you feeling the same were low they still weren't 0. He still had no idea how he managed to do it, well maybe he had a little idea. He knew he had walked you home, he knew he had said a few embarrassing things as you walked together making you laugh, what he didn't know was where he had gotten the courage to ask you out when you were about to enter your house.
“See you tomorrow Shadow,” you said waving goodbye to him.
“Wait” he said almost in a whisper. You turned, shaking your head to the side “I... ah...” he scratched his head.
“Is everything okay?”
“I wanted to... I wanted to ask you out.”
“Sure! You know I love going out with you Shadow”
“As... in a date”
“Oh...” oh? What did that mean, it wasn't the yes he was expecting but it wasn't a denial either, it was as if he had surprised you, as if you didn't imagine he could have feelings for-
“I'd love to” you cut off his thought bringing him back to earth. The smile on your face showed shyness but the pink blush on your cheeks and the loud thumping of your heart confirmed to Shadow that his feelings were reciprocated. “I... I'd like you for a while, just didn't know of you might... like me too” you said, tucking a strand of hair behind your ear meeting your gaze with Shadow's causing him to blush. If this were a cartoon his eyes would have turned into hearts and little blue birds would fly around his head.
“I've been feeling like this for a while too, just...”
“It’s okay” you smiled “I'll see you tomorrow for our date” you walked up to him and deposited a kiss on his cheek, waving your fingers in a goodbye motion and closing the door behind you. Little did he know that you slid down the door frame, hand on your heart triyng to stop the rush in your body.
Shadow stood outside your door, his hand holding the very spot where your lips had touched his cheek trying to capture the warmth of your touch, his stomach felt funny as if something was churning inside him just remembering your kiss. It was then that he realized that maybe allowing himself to be happy wasn't such a bad thing.

going down on the OM girlies for the first time?(✿^‿^)
Now this is content I love
Going down on the Fem obey me brothers for the first time
Lucifer
She is usually the more dominant one yes even if you are a male she often times doesn't like being put down much. She did however enjoy this. She was flustered and a bit nervous at first what if you didn't do it right and what if you end up just pissing her off? Yet as you worked she lost those thoughts. She of course made it to where she is dominant as always talking you through it and gripping your hair basically working you.
Mammon
Very flustered but intrigued. She loves being pampered and taken care of but also boost her own ego saying she's good at oral. She is but now she fears you may be better as she comes undone oh so easily. She is very sensitive and so working her body doesn't take much. She becomes more vulnerable and runs her fingers through your hair while grinding her hips up every now and then. Her moans are loud and breathy. (Lucifer is gonna complain)
Levi
She is freaking out because A why would you want to do that and B could she possibly die from it? She is very scared of sex and everything that comes with it but also hypersexual. Don't get her going on the anime men and women. She with a lot of coaxing allowed you to eat her out. She at first kept her face covered and moaned into her hands and let out breathy whines every now and then. Once you get her close however she turns her attitude completely. She begins begging you and praising you at the same time suddenly squishing you with her thighs as well unknowingly.
Satan
She is also usually more dominant but can bottom as well more so a switch. She didn't mind the invitation. She watches your every move carefully and lets her hands trail against your skin. She takes your hand and sets it on her breast liking stimulation there and just lets you work. She isn't very loud throughout most sexual things that is until she gets close. She also gets meaner when she's close suddenly shoving your head down more into her fine and demanding you make her cum
Asmos
She ofc was on board immediately. She is very vocal even before you go down on her. It isn't her fault she is sensitive to touch. She cums fairly quickly but yet begs you to continue? She goes through about 3 or 4 orgasms before forcing you away to breathe. She enjoys you of course but in the moment thought of you as her own person toy which is what lead her to cum so quickly
Beel
She was hesitant only because she is a big and muscular woman that could easily hurt you with her thighs or by sitting on your face. After reassuring her she completely fell into it all. She is usually the dominant one which she doesn't mind but she did enjoy being the one to be taken care of for once. She was actually very loud which is a 180 from her dominanting you. She also sometimes squeezes her thighs a bit to scare you into thinking she'd lose control but isn't. She cums a lot just as she did when she was a male but you don't mind.
Belphie
She agreed but uh... she is a hard woman to please. She is either into heavily kinky things or wants some small loving vanilla sex. With this she prefers to be more aggressive. She forces you to lay down so she rides your face as you eat her out. She tugs at your hair or turns and leans down to leave bites against your skin any type of marking really too. She cums easily but forces you to continue by not getting up sometimes restricting your airway.

I've had this drafted forever and I'm not entirely sure why I didn't post it. Oh well, better late than never!
MAL DU PAYS (the song) fun facts:
(Like the original post, spoilers for Act 5 ((and also 2hats)))
- Originally, after finishing the game, I wanted to write a song about Loop. They're one of my favorite parts of the game and I really loved their character, but I ended up scrapping that idea very early on, as I couldn’t really find a personal tie to anchor the song to me. While I did want to write a song about the game, I didn’t want to write something that didn’t resonate with me and my musical “mythos” in some way. It's a fan song, but it's also a Starving Narcissist song, and I felt it was important to strike that balance. MAL DU PAYS (Monophobia) only got released because I felt that it was something that fit into the larger body of my works even without the context of the game. So in the end, I chose to write about Siffrin, as I found them a lot more personally relatable. The final version, lyrically, is almost like I’m using Siffrin as a vehicle to write about my own feelings. Some lyrics are his, some are mine, a few are both of us, it’s a weird sort of style I’ve never really written in before.
I do have some leftover lyrics from the scrapped Loop version, though!
“There’s a you you’ll never be, across the cosmic sea / Who has everything you wanted, now it’s everything you need; is it over yet?”
- I think originally the song had a lot more of an exhausted vibe, but with most of the stuff I write, the tempo usually gets faster the more I play it. At some point in the writing process the song channeled more of a manic energy than I had originally intended it to. Loud and shouty is kinda just my default lol.
(The first ever demo for the song, recorded September 15, 2024. Features some slightly altered lyrics!)
- The title was also subject to change! I think for a while I was going back and forth on just calling it Homesickness, mostly because I was a little nervous that my song’s name was technically a late game spoiler. Half the reason I wanted to even write the song was because I thought MAL DU PAYS would make a great song title though, so in the end I just sucked it up and went with my gut. The alternate title was also not set in stone, I think originally I was considering just calling it Mania or Paranoia, but I thought those would be a bit generic. Eventually, I settled on Monophobia, because I felt it was apt in describing the song as a whole. I write a lot about loneliness, and Siffrin is afraid of being alone, so it felt fitting to name the song after the fear of it. (And also, a bit more superficially, I thought Monophobia made a better song title.)
- The song is the only Starving Narcissist song on a nylon string guitar, and it's also the second song in a completely non-standard tuning (third if you count ITWYW?, but that's just a half step down from standard). MAL DU PAYS (Monophobia) in DADF#BD, with a capo on 1.
- THIS SONG HAD SO MANY REVISIONS. I don't think I've ever had this many versions to a song ever. It got so bad that I made a specific folder just to hold all the different variations I had for the song. They're not all too different from each other, and they're all built on the same take of the song, but I was playing around with mixing and structuring and vocal layering and its a whole mess. Honestly, the fact that it's a song about a timeloop makes it probably the funniest song this could have happened to.
Tumblr media
- And that's about it! To end off this little fun fact post, here's a little something I wrote for Genius (where lyrics for this song and all my others are posted! plus annotations I write! <3) about the song. The response to MAL DU PAYS (Monophobia) has been pretty wild, and I'm glad it managed to resonate with people, even some who don't even know the game it's about.
Tumblr media
That's all. While I guarantee this year will probably be slower for Starving Narcissist, rest assured that I am working on stuff, just very slowly. There's a very low chance I'll ever do something as flagrantly self indulgent as this song, but whatever I do end up doing, I hope you're around to see it.
In the meantime, stream the song on spotify! or buy it on bandcamp! or even just go watch the lyric video i made for it (please i spent like a week on this)!
Thanks for everything, see you later <333
Happy one year anniversary to In Stars And Time! tldr; i wrote a song about it. if you wanna skip all the gushing and just listen to it, click here. (spoilers for act 5) If not, behold this big rambly mess of a thing i wrote:
Tumblr media
So funny story, I kind of wasn’t planning on releasing anything for the rest of the year. The album wore me out, and the only other idea I had sort of fell through, so I was content on just letting the album be the only thing of note I would make in 2024.
… and then, in September, I played a little RPG called In Stars And Time. beat the whole thing over the course of three days, then spent the next couple weeks ravenously consuming all the fan content I could get my hands on. my friends have been forced to stare at my siffrin pfp every day for two months straight at this point and frankly i think they are tired of me talking about it.
i love the art, i love the story, i love the music, i love the characters, i love the world. siffrin sort of immediately became one of my favorite protagonists like,, ever. and it definitely did not help that i am also a scrawny forgetful person who has to regularly fight off the part of my brain that convinces myself that All My Friends Secretly Hate Me.
I’ve never really been so called out by a character before. The spiraling, the deflection, and the agony of being a stranger to yourself. the yearning for something you cant even name, because how could you? you cant even find the words on your tongue. not being able to tell anyone how you feel because its just easier to live with it, easier to let it eat you from the inside out then to bother anybody else. its easier to keep the mask on, stick to your lines, let the show go on.
all that hit just a bit too close to home. so i did what I usually do When Things Hit and wrote about it.
(like i said, spoilers for Act 5; It’s pretty devoid of context but they’re spoilers nonetheless)
MAL DU PAYS (Monophobia) is a song about cyclical burnout, self-estrangement, and homesickness. It’s half about Siffrin, half about me, but mostly it’s a rumination on loneliness and the hell that is the self.
Out now wherever you listen to music.

Dungeon Meshi Chapter 75
First time Marcille saw the Touden's place, she went "Damn, bitch. You live like this?"
Tumblr media
Also, this is the first time as far as I can recall where Marcille used her ribbons to tie the end of her braids.
Otta, Fleki, and Pattadol have never seen a demon it seems.
Mithrun's eye changed color briefly but went back to black when he started attacking.
Tumblr media
What rules?
Tumblr media
Is Mithrun going to get court-martialed if he kills an adventurer who is not a dungeon lord?
Love seeing Mithrun fight. Love seeing his unconventional use of teleportation magic.
Tumblr media
Mithrun's Tall-man form was very muscular, and this fight shows how strong he actually is. Each time he pulls that cape out of the lion, he has to be able to pull whatever part of the lion is also weighing the cape down.
Oh. So Kabru wasn't able to talk last chapter. And y'know what, I can tell exactly what happened. In chapter 73, Cithis said "Silence" to him right before she hypnotized Laios and the others. She wasn't telling Kabru to back down, she was giving him a command he had to follow. Cithis may also have been responsible for Kabru's cuffs as well.
Tumblr media
What do they expect him to do? He's handcuffed and doesn't have a weapon.
Tumblr media
So much of this could have been avoided if the elves weren't such stuck-up supremacists. And I'm not just talking about how the Canaries immediately escalated to trying to murder Marcille.
They were hostile to the Touden party from the start and only became polite when Pattadol thought she was talking to a full-elf. The moment one of them brought up Marcille's half-elf heritage, they all started talking down at her as well.
One thing I'll point out as a token defense for the Canaries is they only became physically aggressive with Marcille when she tried to flee. And after putting up with them, Marcille may have decided she might as well become the dungeon lord since her wish would knock them down a peg.
But still, the Canaries treat everyone as ignorant children who should do as they say because they said so and don't think they should have to give a reason for why others should listen to them.
Now onto the other part about how their supremacist attitude got in the way. Recall that Kabru wanted to be a Canary but couldn't join because he's not an elf. That brief moment where he was able to give orders to the others shows he's able to keep a cool head in a dangerous situation; he'd be a competent leader. But also, he would not have let the situation ever escalate to the point that it got to.
Kui redrew several images from earlier chapters during Marcille's flashback montage. It really shows how well her artstyle had improved over the series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Marcille's takeaway from reflecting on their journey is that this entire adventure has sucked, it's been a miserable and painful experience, and she'd be better off if she'd given up on any number of occasions.
And it was all worthwhile. What's a little more pain and suffering if it means she'll be able to spend as much time as possible with the people she loves.
Tumblr media
She's going to live 1,000 years? Oh that makes everything even worse.
Looks like the lion is restoring everything about the dungeon as if it were new. At the very least, all the mirrors are repaired.
Tumblr media
I think the sequence of events was Marcille was thinking she wants to restrain the Canaries and the lion basically went "I know how to do that!" and he summoned giant spiders to restrain them.
Tumblr media
And once Marcille saw the lion's approach, it began to adjust its methods to better suit Marcille's desire even if Marcille's approach is even more terrifying than how it was going to do things.
Tumblr media
And one of the first things the lion did after becoming Marcille's servant is act against her wishes behind her back. Marcille said she didn't want to kill anyone, but the lion's methods definitely did something to Fleki and one spider was about to kill Otta as well.
And then the lion literally covered Marcille's eyes so she wouldn't see it kill Mithrun.
Tumblr media
The lion is not a genie forced to grant peoples' wishes. It grants wishes to feed off desires and it will defy its master's wishes if it feels like doing so.
This would probably drive anyone insane.
Tumblr media
Of note, Thistle set up a post to spy on Senshi's encampment, but he doesn't appear to have anything spying on the orcs.
The walking mushrooms have little hearts on them.
Tumblr media
Oh look. Mithrun's alive.

Bitter Goodbye
Tumblr media
Tommy Shelby x fem!reader
Prompt: "I loved you. Believe me, I did. But then you turned into someone else... someone terrible."
Trigger Warnings: Swearing, breaking up, Tommy kinda being a dick
Summary: Before everything, you and Tommy had been childhood sweethearts. But when the war changed him, he expected you to change with him...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It had been nearly a year since the war had ended, and by now your hopes that things would go back to the way they had been before, were long gone. Nothing was quite the same, but business at the betting shop was booming and even if he didn't confide in you the way he used to, you knew that Tommy was planning something big.
Before the war, there was hardly a thing in his life that Tommy didn't share with you. Not a day would go by where you couldn't be seen out in the street, arm in arm with Tommy, talking and laughing. Practically everyone in Small Heath was just waiting for the day when wedding bells would final chim.
As much as you hated to admit it, you were waiting too. But money was tight, and Tommy swore he wanted nothing but the best for you, even when you told him that you'd happily marry him on the bank of The Cut without a second thought.
In a way, you supposed, the war had only amplified what he already was: Ambitious and prideful. Only now, he didn't cut you in on his plans, and you saw him less and less with every passing day.
You could barely remember the last time you had actually spent time together. In a way, it felt like your relationship was already over. Maybe that was why it was so easy to make up your mind about leaving.
Originally, when Tommy first got his orders, the plan was for you to be married before he shipped out-
"Just in case," His voice wavered, but he still met your eyes, "So if anything happens to me, you'll be taken care of..."
"No- no- nothings going to happen Tom," Tears slipping down your cheeks, you had buried your face in his chest, "You're going to be fine."
Of course, the wedding had never actually happened. Somewhere between his deployment being moved up, Arthur and John's own orders coming in, and the scramble to make sure the betting shop would be safe in Polly's hands, there was never time.
Oh well, you supposed now, that just made it one step easier to walk away.
"Are you going somewhere?"
Tommy's voice at the bedroom door pulled your packing to a resounding hault. You cleared your throat before carefully resuming folding a blouse, "Yes. My cousins house in Liverpool. I'm on the 4:30 train."
He let out a sigh, and out of the corner of your eye, you could see him rubbing at his temples, "Were you planning on telling me or just disappearing?"
"I told Polly. And I'd've left a note." You said, finally looking up at him.
Tommy met your gaze evenly, but you could still see the flash of hurt in his eyes, "I know you told Polly. Darling- why not just tell me, that your unhappy?"
"Tell you? Tell you?" You repeated incredulous, "I never see you, Tommy, and when I do it's like you're not even really there! And unhappy does not even begin to cover it!"
He took a step further into the room, "Listen to me love, I swear to you, if you wait just a couple week more, for all this business to be over-"
"What business, Tommy? Or have you forgotten that you've neglected to tell me anything for the better part of six months! I've found out more about Billy Kimber and those blasted guns from John than you!"
"It was meant to be a surprise..." It was the quietest you had heard his voice in years.
"What, that you were taking over Kimbers territory? That you're selling out communists left and right? What about that is meant to be a good surprise, Tom?" You demanded.
Tommy's face twisted, and suddenly he was yelling too, "That we were moving up in the world! That with the money coming in we could finally get out of this shit hole!"
You let out a scoff, shaking your head, "Oh, and you'd finally marry me I'm sure, as if you haven't been treating like a stranger for months."
"Darling-"
"No. No apologies, no flowery words, no promises of changing," You stuffed the last of your things into your suitcase, and slamming in closed, "I'm done, Tommy."
He caught your arm when you went to go around him, standing between you and the door, "I thought you said you loved me."
You swallowed, looking up at him, "I did love you. Believe me I did. But then you turned into someone else... someone terrible."
Tommy's face broke, but you had to continue, "You scheme, and you lie and you do what you can to get ahead, and I can almost understand that, but not when it means cutting me out. There's no point in me staying here anymore."
For a long moment, a dozen emotions passed over his face, until finally, Tommy pulled a mask of neutrality together, speaking coldly, "I suppose you should go then."
You shook your head, swallowing back the lump in your throat, "Goodbye, Tommy."
@skidspace thank you for sharing this lovely piece!!! Oh my god this is so good!!!
Context: missing scene from part 3 of this
———
Hello! I was the anon that mentioned writing an extra scene involving Trick. I ended up adding more to it as I started writing and editing. Again I’m not much of an author so I apologize for any mistakes or confusing parts but I hope you enjoy!
Thanks again for the wonderful story that inspired this
~~~~~~
Steve had to wipe his eyes before he dared to leave the bathroom.
Eddie’s letter was… a lot to take in. He’d be lying if he said the apology didn’t feel good. Hell he’s been yearning for one ever since that last night he saw Eddie.
Even so, it didn’t make that initial hurt go away. Nothing had. Not the time away, not the idea of moving on. Nothing could fill the chasm that used to be filled with Eddie’s love. To know that Eddie was hurting to? It didn’t make him feel any better.
After what Steve deemed enough time to compose himself and not look like a total wreck in front of the customers, he carefully folded the letter back into his apron and left the bathroom. He must’ve been in there longer than he thought because Trick’s booth was now empty.
Steve sighed and thought to himself, he’s still on the clock so he might as well actually do his job. And went to go clear off the table.
As he stacked the dishes and cup a with practiced ease, Steve noticed something amongst the mess. It was a napkin with the words “Rock on, Steve!” written in the corner, and crudely drawn doodle of a hand making the devil horns sign in black ink. Next to the napkin were a few crumpled bills and some change, plenty to cover the cost of Trick’s meal and a tip.
Steve felt his eyes start to well up again. Dammit, he can’t handle this much emotional whiplash in just one 5-hour shift. First Eddie’s letter and now a guy he honestly thought hated his guys was taking the time to apologize and be genuinely kind to him.
Steve set the dishes back on the table and just stared at the napkin note, but he was taken out of his spiral by a loud “Are you kidding me?!” coming from the front of the diner followed by the sound of someone slapping glass.
He peaked around the corner of the booth only to see none other than Trick staring at the ancient pinball machine they kept in the waiting area like it had just insulted his mother.
Steve however, couldn’t help but laugh, which caused Trick to finally break eye contact with the offending contraption and whip his head around. At first, he had a nasty scowl on his face that Steve was SURE many a jock at Tricks own high school had experienced. But once he saw that it was Steve and realized the laugh wasn’t a mocking one, his scowl turned into a cheeky smirk with too much teeth showing, but was friendly nonetheless.
He turned and fully faced Steve.
“Your machine is busted, dude.” He said, slapping the glass top of the pinball machine once again.
“I don’t know man,” Steve surprised himself with how easy he found a joke tone to his words, “I’ve seen a few 10 year olds absolutely destroy the high score on that thing. I think this is just a user issue.”
“Oh fuck off.” Trick’s smile grew wider with the jest, only to be followed by someone loudly clearing their throat. Steve and Trick both turned their heads to see Jenny with her arms crossed and brows furrowed, gaze pinned on Trick.
The other man’s face fell from jovial to a harden nonchalance. Steve recognized the change all too well from when people would give Eddie a hard time in public back home. Like Eddie, the shift in Trick looked well-practiced.
Trick put his hands in the pockets of his jacket and cleared his throat, looking back at Steve once more. “I should probably get going, but uh- could I ask you something first?”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Is Eddie doing okay?”
Steve felt a pit form in his stomach at the question. He really didn’t want to air out everything that happened between him and Eddie with a guy he had JUST gotten on friendly terms with.
“W-what do you mean?” He settled on.
Trick gestured up towards his face.
“It’s just that no one has seen him at a party since the night he rocked my shiiii-“ his eyes flick over to where Jenny was still glaring, “I mean, since he called me out for how we were treating you.”
“I, um,” Steve’s hand reflexively went to the letter in his apron, “I don’t really know. I haven’t seen him in…a while.”
Something in how Steve had said that must’ve tipped Trick off to the situation, even just a little. His face took on a concerned look.
“Oh. Well, if you see him or talk to him soon, can you tell him I’m sorry?”
“For what?”
“For driving him away too. Even without the whole ‘boyfriend thing’, for people like us - people like Eddie - it’s hard to find a place that will accept you for who you are, let alone make you feel welcomed. We shouldn’t have made him feel like he had to be one thing or that he had to hide an important part of his life.”
Steve was silent , standing there contemplating the potential of all that might have happened to Eddie since he walked out of their apartment and never came back. Putting the pieces he had together, it seemed that Eddie had not only punched one of his cool new metal friends for Steve’s sake, but had completely stopped hanging out with his all of his cool new metal friends after they bad mouthed Steve to Eddie’s face. Steve was always under the impression that Eddie had known about the ridicule Trick and his friends subjected him to. But he either just didn’t know the severity of it all, or he didn’t care enough to come to Steve’s defense.
Steve was starting to think that was wrong.
Why didn’t Eddie say any of this in his letter? Would it have made the situation better? Would Steve have believed him if he hasn’t just had this whole eye opening apology and conversation with Trick?
The thought threatened to tip his emotions over the edge again so he shook his head a bit, desperate to clear his thoughts
He finally replied, “I’ll tell him.”
Some of Trick’s toothy smile retuned to his face. “Thanks Steve.” He then threw up the devil horns with his right hand and turned to leave.
As he walked away, Trick turned his head one last time to say “I get it if you don’t wanna come back, but I hope I’ll see you around.”
The bell above the door jingled as it was opened, then closed, and then Trick was gone.
-
Steve had to take a few deep breathes before he went back and finished clearing out the booth. Upon returning to behind the counter, Jenny slid up to him with her arms crossed again.
“God, I thought he’d never leave. That guy didn’t give you a hard time, did he?”
Steve didn’t mean to, but a bitter tone slips into his voice.
“No, Jenny. He didn’t.”
Jenny huffed.
“Good, cuz you never know with those types. They always look like they’re gonna-“
“Just because he looks mean and scary doesn’t mean that’s how he really is! You can’t just judge people like that Jenny!” Steve snapped and instantly felt bad for it. The wide-eyed look Jenny was giving him only made it worse.
“Sorry, sorry,” he said, “I shouldn’t have yelled at you.”
“No, you’re right. I mean, yeah the yelling was a little rude, but I shouldn’t judge someone just by how they look or dress,” Jenny shrugged, “I mean just look at Rob. He dresses like a dorky pencil pusher who wouldn’t hurt a fly but you and I both know he packs the meanest left hook when the day drunks get too handsy.”
Steve couldn’t help but let out a loud belly laugh at that. God, he really does love working a shift with Jenny.
-
Steve normally took the bus back to Robin’s dorm after work, but the weather was nice enough and his head was full enough that he decided he needed the walk. There were just too many things that happened today he had to work through.
First there was Eddie’s letter and apology, then Trick’s appearance and apology. Those two things alone were enough for one day. But there was also something else. Something Trick said combine with how he acted, how others had acted towards him, that Steve couldn’t get out of his mind.
“For people like Eddie, it’s hard to find a place that accepts you for who you are, let alone makes you feel welcomed.”
Now Steve knew that most of the crowds he ran with back in Hawkins couldn’t be counted as good friends. But he never entered a group of people and felt unwelcomed. He didn’t have people scoff at him or shuffle away when he entered a room. The only time he felt truly ostracized in high school was the time between Billy Hargrove showing up and meeting Robin after graduation. And even then he may not have been welcomed in his old social circles, but when he walked into a room his presence was at least accepted. After graduation most people he knew stopped caring about the petty high school bullshit anyway, save for Billy himself and a select few of his crownies. He had real friends by then. And eventually, he had Eddie.
Eddie who had always been the one that people would stare at like he was going to sacrifice their dogs to Satan at any minute.
Eddie who knew that there wasn’t a place for outcasts like him, so he MADE a place where other kids could feel safe.
Steve thought back on that first day walking into school after Billy had fully deposed him from his title of King Steve. He had felt hundreds of eyes on him as he walked down the hallway, but at the same time he had never felt more alone.
Steve now wondered if that was the feeling Eddie had dealt with his whole life while living in Hawkins.
The idea made him feel…different about Eddie’s actions these past couple months.
Of course, those actions still caused hurt. And after many late-night tearful discussions with Robin, Steve knew he didn’t deserve to be treated that way, that he had deserved better.
But…
But maybe Eddie hadn’t done it because he was ashamed of Steve, or because he didn’t care about how Steve felt.
Maybe…maybe Eddie just couldn’t believe he had found a place that welcomed him because of who he was, not despite it.
He had told Steve as much about their own relationship after they started officially dating. Eddie joked that he couldn’t believe his interests and quirks were what Steve called positives instead of dealbreakers. Steve had laughed along with him at the time. Now the thought broke his heart.
Steve was tired of things breaking his heart. He was tired of licking his wounds, and he was tired of hiding in Robin’s dorm.
Steve had changed his mind about walking. He located the nearest bus stop.
After all, his and Eddie’s apartment was on the other side of town.
Steve had a letter he needed to respond to in person.

NEW AMREV OC !!!!!!!!!!
Guys meet Nathan
Tumblr media
Okay so to begin with, Nathan Taylor was a 25 year old private in the Continental Army at the time of his death.
He was born to a small family in Massachusetts and lived, what could be said as, a normal life. Anyone who knew him in life would tell you that he was, by all means, an ideal young man. He worked hard as an apprentice at his father's printing press, which gave him some impressive physical strength, he studied to become a lawyer even though he thought he would be better fit with medicine, he even courted a girl and a marriage was arranged between them.
However, one thing that was "wrong", he was never really able to feel any strong emotion, or have any meaningful relationships. He found this out when his mother died from an illness when he was a lad and he felt nothing from it. That realization never troubled him or made him hate himself, he'd simply sort of "put on a mask" of a normal person and it ended up becoming second nature. This can be seen in the way he presents himself, overly and almost eerily polite, and how his smile never reaches his eyes.
When the war began, he didn't exactly have a reason for joining. He just felt strangely drawn to the thought of being in battle. Whether that was the boredom of the insincere life he lived catching up to him, he didn't know. During the war, his politeness got him a lot of people who either really liked him, or found him really weird.
(Upon killing his first redcoat, he simply thought; "oh, I killed someone.")
Anyways, one day in battle, he saw Giles for the first time. The man was massacring his fellow patriots with a smile on his face. He knew immediately that that was the "Nameless Colonel" he would hear rumors about. So, at that moment, why couldn't he move? He knew that being in vicinity of that man, and in the battlefield in general was dangerous --- but it's not like he was frozen out of fear. After a fellow bluecoat saw him standing there like an idiot, he was tackled down so he wouldn't get shot. And in that moment on the ground, he came to a conclusion; he was attracted to that colonel---for the first time, he found someone interesting.
God knows why, but he made the assumption that they were similar, and in a way, they were... but at the same time, they were completely different. He'd thought that Giles was a "better version of himself" that didn't restrain himself, and he admired him for that.
Unlike Joseph, who loved Giles for more than his sadism, Nathan's attraction was solely because of it. And since the two would never interact outside battle (although sometimes he would willingly get himself into close-calls with Giles), Nathan would only just continue to make delusions/assumptions/headcanons about him that would only fuel his interest more.
in @/hamalicious-soup's words --- a "delusional fanboy with a parasocial relationship"
He'd also tell his mates about his interest and they'd all think "whatt= the fuck ??"
Anyways, sometime in 1777, Nathan would willingly volunteer to go on a spy mission at the redcoat camp, if just to get closer to the colonel than actually gathering info. He gets caught near-immediately.
At getting captured, he of course didn't feel frustrated or depressed, he simply accepted that he'd failed, and was going to be hanged.
Well the upside was that Giles was the one that questioned him in his own tent !!!!
And Giles found him "amusing" and that was just about it. He decided to keep him alive for a few more days. He came to know about the rebel's interest in him, and it amused him even more. However he did not return those feelings, he still believed he was incapable of loving anyone, this was of course before Giles met Joseph.
Eventually Giles did kill Nathan. He was a spy, so he should have been publicly hung, but Giles opted for privately strangling him where he was. Nathan didn't complain, he found it intimate.
When Giles put his hands on his throat, their final interaction went something like this:
"I love you."
That caused Giles to pause for a moment. "If that is your way to convince me to stop, it's quite strange."
"No, I am telling the truth."
"Then your affections are misguided." He then began to put in some pressure. "I don't love anyone."
...
"You are --- beautiful." And those were Nathan Taylor's last words.
After that it doesn't take long for Giles to forget about him lol

Ugly
(A not so short part from my comic I’m writing called False Miracles (ft Sebastia and Toby.) Also an angsty part I can’t help myself sorry!
Also spoilers for the comic obviously
Tumblr media
Sebastia is curled up in the corner, head resting on the wall. Another day, another fight. Ever since Toby “found her” in the cabin, they’ve been stationed together and fighting. Some days it’s about when they first met which was also the first time they physically fought. Other days, it’s about how annoying Toby finds her because of how untrusting and accusatory Sebastia is. She’s constantly accusing him of wanting to harm her, him backstabbing her, him doing horrible things to her.
Not that Sebastia can control it that much. Miracle is constantly in her head, feeding her these ideas about Toby and everyone else around her. But even if that wasn’t the case, Sebastia is anxious and unstable. Unable to remove herself from her traumatized survivor mindset. Never relaxing, never opening up. Especially to a man.
“Why are you such a bitch all the time?!” Toby glares at her. “We can’t go two hours without you accusing me of something or you breaking down completely!
“Don’t call me that! It’s not my fault I don’t trust you! I hardly even know you or your intentions! You expect me to just trust you, a killer, a dangerous man with open arms and mind?! I don’t think so!”
“We fought once! Since then i haven’t given you a single reason not to trust me! You’re always flinching and jumping if I even breathe around you! It’s so fucking annoying!”
“Once is all it takes! You buried your hatchet in my shoulder without a second thought! You think I can trust someone like that?! Trust a man like that?! That will hurt someone like it’s as easy as breathing air?!”
“I found you covered in other people’s blood…don’t think you’re better than me! Don’t sit there like you’re a saint!”
“No…I’m not like you. Don’t you ever…compare me to you.”
Sebastia stands up. She’s not confrontational. Far from it. However, Toby comparing them to each other….Sebastia takes being compared to a violent man an insult.
“I did what I had to do to survive. To live. You just do it because you’re mindless and violent!”
Toby let’s put a dry chuckle and starts laughing at her words. Like he finds this whole thing amusing, like he’s not taking her seriously.
“Funny. That’s exactly what I said when I killed my first person.”
Sebastia gasps.
Toby mocks his past mindset and Sebastias current one with his words “Oh, I’m not a bad person! I just did what I had to do to be free! I had to end this persons life to stop the torture they put me through! That doesn’t make me a bad person!”
He runs his hand through his hair, laughing and shaking his head and continues to speak.
“Is that how you’re justifying it? That how you sleep at night?”
He walks towards Sebastia, eyes wide, crazed and smiling. As if this conversation was bringing up memories that were too much for his mind to handle as well. He keeps walking towards her and she keeps backing up, looking at him with eyes full of fear, until her back hits a wall and she’s trapped between the wall and Toby.
“Guess what, Sebastia?” He looks directly into her eyes, a very serious and cold look on his face. More serious than Sebastia has ever seen him, even when they had their first physical fight.
“Every person you kill, regardless of whether they hurt you or not…is a person whose family is never gonna see them again. Every person you kill, leaves behind a pool of blood, guilty or innocent. Doesn’t matter. Every person you kill..weighs on you. Someone like you who tries to convince herself she’s…moral.”
He continued.
“Your reasons don’t really matter do they? You still killed. You’re a violent girl who did a violent thing and is trying to convince herself otherwise.”
“N-no that’s not…that’s not true!” Sebastia’s voice shook as she spoke, shock and fear plaguing it.
“Oh? No? You say don’t compare us…but you have a monster that puts voices in your head, telling you who to attack. Who to kill. What I have with Slenderman. You have with your “Miracle.” And you wanna sit there and say we’re nothing alike? You’re stupid and delusional.” Toby’s words drip with venom.
“You’re trying to fight Miracle off? Keep it suppressed?”
Toby talks like he’s experienced this first hand.
“How many more breakdowns? How many more violent urges? How many more words does it need to put inside your head? Till it breaks you down and you just give in?”
Toby whispers in Sebastia’s ear.
“And end up just like me?”
Sebastia stands there in shock and confusion, emotions of every kind swirling in her. Until she just can’t take it. She doesn’t know what to say or do.
“Kill him” Miracle spoke in her head. And that’s all the guidance she needed.
Miracles mouths bursts out of Sebastia’s head, splattering blood all over the walls, on Toby’s face, and down Sebastia’s. The sharp teeth and red eyes following.
Miracles mouths slam Toby on the wall.
“I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU I HATE YOU!”
Sebastia screams at him over and over with Miracles voice along side hers.
“Not long before you gave in huh?”
Sebastia not in her right mind just breaths heavily and glares, Miracle, wrapping around him, ready to rip him to pieces.
“Kill me and you know the consequences. Use your brain and not Miracles for once!” Toby yells at her, frustrated and angry but not scared.
“We gotta…stop…” Sebastia’s voice shook but she was telling Miracle to not kill Toby. “Need him….alive… can’t be…normal….without him…”
Sebastia starts to suppress Miracle, much to its disagreement.
Miracle reluctantly goes back to Sebastia and back inside her, Sebastia’s normal form returning as she sits on the bed, blood still trailing down her with a blank empty stare.
“I’m…”
Toby looks at her waiting to see what she’ll say.
“I’m sorry…Toby.”
Toby’s eyes widen a bit. Surprised. She has never ever apologized to him.
“I’m so sorry……” Sebastia puts her face in her hands letting out small sobs.
For the first time, Toby is shocked. Apologizing? Crying? What is this?
“You’re right…I’m a violent thing..an ugly, violent, thing!”
She can’t stop sobbing. Like the strength she’s had to uphold for months just crumbled at Toby’s words.
Toby has trouble feeling empathy. For anything or anyone. Usually his first reaction would be to laugh. But the sight of Sebastia crying brought something out of him. A distant memory he can’t place.
He sits beside her on the bed. Leaving room between them, knowing she doesn’t like to be touched by men.
“I never said ugly. I never said thing.”
He looks her, her head still in her pitch black hands.
“Yeah I definitely called you ugly in the past but I’m a dick so….take that with a grain of salt.” That was his way of apologizing.
“Uh…look…I…we’re traveling all this way to help you fix this right? Make you normal again? There’s still a chance you’re not like this forever. Unlike me. So…”
“What if I am? What if…I’m ugly forever?” Sebastia holds back sobs and looks at him to talk.
“Then if you have to stay with everyone…. if you really can’t go back…maybe me and you can finally learn to have a conversation without fighting. Plus you…you’re not ugly. I’ve seen some ugly stuff and…you’re just not that. Despite what I’ve said.”
Sebastia calms down eyes still a bit puffy, blood and tears staining her face.
They look at each other. Both of them have deep dark circles. Sebastia’s blood still staining Toby’s face.
“This…this is gonna sound…so weird….but…”
Toby looks at her and waits for her to finish.
“I wish I could hug you right now…”
Toby’s eyes widen just for a second. She’s full of surprises tonight. Neither of them being touched gently in months maybe for Toby, years, it didn’t sound like a bad idea.
“Yeah……me too.”

Try again (osamu miya x f!reader)
Chapter 5; True love never dies?
contains; angst, smoking, angst, a tad bit of fluff.
also! the note is from “to all the boys i’ve loved before” lol.
Tumblr media
When you arrived home, you broke down. It was all too much for you; all in just a couple of hours, it went from one extreme to another.
You sluggishly walked to the bathroom, opening the door to wash off all the energy from today.
You sit in the bathtub as the hot water hits your back, thinking about Osamu.
"What a coward," came out of your mouth. As tears slowly escaped your eyes once more, this time no cries were heard—just water falling down your face from the shower and your eyes. Soon after, you stepped out of the steamy shower, feeling slightly better than before.
You now sit in your living room with freshly washed PJs and a cup of your (his) favorite tea, staring into the void; with no thoughts, no feelings, just sitting on the couch.
You get a shudder down your spine, remembering how you felt this way when you and he ended things, but now it was because you were aware of how weak he was, not because you were hurt.
Then you hear your phone buzz next to you.
“Atsumu,” it read. You let out a heavy sigh.
“Hi.” You put on a smile as you spoke, hoping he wouldn’t be able to tell.
“Hey.” A voice that wasn’t Atsumu’s, but similar to his, spoke.
“You’re not Atsumu.” You deadpanned, dropping the act.
“You can tell that easily?” Osamu sarcastically let out a forced laugh.
“Unfortunately, yes, I can. Now, why are you calling me on his phone?” A response filled with attitude was given to him.
“He’s home now and sleeping. I'm leaving; you can stop by anytime except the nights I’m going to be there.” He gave you the same attitude right back.
“Okay, sure, whatever… bitch.” You whispered the last part.
“What did you say?” he replied angrily.
“What did you hear?” you pretended to be clueless.
“I don’t know.” He huffed.
“Then I guess I will never know, huh? Anyway, I gotta go get dressed and make him some of his favorite sweets.” You swiftly hung up the phone afterward.
“BITCH ASS LIAR, except nights because I’m going to be there. OH, SHUT THE FUCK UP, OSAMU.” You yelled out in an annoyingly mocking voice as you tossed your phone onto the other couch.
You decided to collect yourself from that small outburst because letting your emotions take over wasn’t good for you. Plus, you had to start planning what to bake for Atsumu.
You loved baking things for the people you loved. Osamu was very well aware of that; after all, it was one of his favorite things about you.
You didn’t first start getting into baking until your first year of high school. Osamu was there throughout all the trials and errors of your baking history. From the salty cookies to the undercooked cake, he was there for it all. He was one of your biggest supporters throughout everything, and now it felt almost like his brother took that place in an instant.
You wonder if Osamu is feeling jealous about how you and Atsumu have gotten close again, but does it matter? Yes. Yes, it does.
Although Osamu is many things, knowing the reason why he left you makes your heart ache. Maybe calling him a coward and a bitch was just to mask the fact that you’d forgive him and try to get back with him.
Even though that ship probably sailed a long time ago. I mean, who knows what he’s up to these days? You got so mad and let your emotions take control that you have no idea how he is. Perhaps you shouldn’t try to be too harsh on him, but it is hard not to.
Suddenly, you hear the beep of the preheating oven go off, snapping you out of your drowning thoughts about Osamu.
You put the cinnamon rolls into the oven and go off to get dressed. You wear something casual since it’s just a small visit and to make sure Atsumu’s house is clean and easy for him to manage.
The drive over is quiet; today your thoughts have been so loud that it was enough to keep the radio off.
When you arrive at Atsumu's house, you shoot him a quick "I’m here" text and receive an instant reply with "doors open." You walk in, taking off your shoes.
“Tsumu, cinnamon rolls are here!” you yell throughout the quiet house.
“Bring them to my room, please,” he yells back.
You make your way towards the kitchen to pull out a plate from the cupboard so you can serve them.
“Do you need milk or anything to drink with it?” you yell once more.
“No, I have water right here,” Atsumu says.
“Kay,” you nod to yourself as you set the cinnamon roll down on the plate.
You start walking down the hall to head to Atsumu’s room. Seeing the door wide open, you let yourself in to find him with a beaming smile. You couldn’t tell if it was for you or the cinnamon rolls, but regardless, you’re just happy he’s smiling.
“Thanks for stopping by,” his hands reach out for the plate of sweets.
“Of course. Did Osamu give you food before he left?” you pull back the plate just in case he didn’t eat regular food before shoving his mouth with junk.
“Yeah, he made me onigiri. You know that’s his whole thing now,” he says, finally grabbing the plate out of your hands.
“Oh, that’s good you ate,” you say, pausing for a moment because you did not know that was his “whole thing” now.
“Yeah, there’s leftovers in the microwave if you want one. I’m sure you haven’t eaten since the hospital; that’s been like hours ago, so you should eat. Bring it back to my room so you can keep me company,” Atsumu speaks with a mouth full of gooey cinnamon rolls, which makes you laugh at the sight of him looking like a squirrel.
“Okay, I’ll go get some. I’ll be back,” you tell him as you make your way out of the room once more, down the hall and then to the kitchen.
You hesitate before opening the microwave door, and you don’t know why. Seconds later, you open it and are met with the wafting smell of cooked salmon-filled onigiri. It makes you salivate instantly.
You pull the plate out to serve yourself two because one is never enough with Osamu’s cooking. You always wanted more; I mean, who wouldn’t?
You leave the rest of the leftovers behind in the microwave. You take the plate and make your way out of the kitchen and back into Atsumu’s bedroom, where he is bedridden because of his leg.
As you step in and make your way to the edge of his bed to sit, you both now indulge in the silence of chews, being next to each other without speaking as proof of the comfortableness you two had regained, just like back in your younger years.
After 10 more minutes of silence, you collect your and Atsumu’s plates and quickly walk back into the kitchen to wash the dishes so Osamu won’t have to do anything once he comes back for his night shift to take care of Atsumu.
You walk back in to find Atsumu looking a bit on edge as he bites into the hangnail on his right thumb.
“You’re going to end up with an infection if you do that, ya know...” you speak slowly while walking back to his bed.
“Yn, there’s something you should see. Get the light gray box from underneath my bed and go outside. Just come back when you're ready.” He sets his hands down at his sides as he tosses his head back into his pillows to stare up at the ceiling.
“Uhm... okay.” You look at him weirdly before crouching down to peek under his bed to find the box there by itself. You slowly pull it out and take a look at it as you sit on the floor by his bed.
It had nothing on it that looked like a shoe box or something to store papers in. You carry it in your arms as you stand up while walking to the door, turning your back to see Atsumu still in the same position as before you went down to get the box.
You make your way out to Atsumu’s backyard, where it is quite spacious and peaceful, as if it were a zen garden.
As you sit down comfortably in the large, quiet, and comfortable chair he has, you open the box to find a card addressed to you with the date from a few years ago, a lighter, and a pack of cigarettes. Not just any old cigarettes, the ones you and Osamu had smoked back in high school up until college were the ones from college. It was so recognizable because the red lipstick-stained kiss was still on the front of the box.
As you put the lighter and cigarettes to the side to pull out the card, the back of the card says, “Light up a cigarette as you read this.” You sigh at this stupid thing but do as you're told, because maybe you would need it—I mean, who the fuck knows what this could contain?
You rip open the letter to find Osamu’s initials at the top of the page. The letter smells of the cigarettes that were in the box. It had a yellow stain due to the time it had spent in the box.
A large inhale of smoke fills your lungs as you prepare yourself for another hit to the face from Osamu’s late confession. Maybe this is payback for slapping him.
“Dear Yn,
My memory of the first time I met you. It was our sixth-grade assembly. You were sitting in the row in front of me, and your name was written on your backpack in glittering letters. Principal Kyo called you up on stage to receive an attendance reward, and your hair got caught in your chair. I helped you untangle it, and you smiled at me. My heart somersaulted in my chest. I didn’t know hearts could do that. I had no clue then that you would become who you are now. The most important person in my life. Sometimes I can't believe how lucky I am that you chose me. We’ve been through so much together. Yn, I never should have doubted that we’d get through this too, but I got scared and I hurt you, I am so sorry. Of course, you should go to the states. You should do all the things you want to do. I never want to be the guy holding you back. I want to be the one by your side. It won’t always be easy, but I would do whatever it takes to make this work.
Because that’s what you do when you love someone. Besides, when you think about it, if we’re going to be together forever, then two years of college isn’t such a big deal.”
You set the letter down at your side as tears trickle down your face; the agony that your heart, soul, mind, and body feel is worse than anything you’ve gone through. Osamu did care. He always had.
Your face falls into your shaking hands as the cigarette slowly burns in between your middle finger and index. You couldn’t see anything you didn’t want to as the words from the letter ran through your mind.
The thoughts in your brain were too much to sit and think about. Everything was moving too fast for you to comprehend after 15-20 more minutes of talking in that position you gathered the letter and everything else and placed it back into the box.
With the box under your right arm, you head back inside and walk your way into Atsumu's room with your head hung low until you reach the side of the bed he was lying on to face him. He can see everything by the look and tears on your face.
He sits up from his lying position and extends his arms out for a hug that you quickly fall into wishing they were his brothers. You softly cry once more in his embrace wondering if the pain would ever stop.
“Yn maybe my brother was a coward but he still loves you. He never stopped. He told me to give you this once you stopped by. I don't know if it’ll change anything but it’s worth a chance.” He sighs as he slowly pats your back in an attempt to comfort you.
“This changes a lot. Thank you Atsumu for being the mediator and fixor of a mess that isn’t yours,” you speak into his chest.
“Anything for the two people I love the most.” he smiles sadly.
You lift yourself off of him and wipe the rest of your tears.
“I should get going. I have a lot to think about. I’ll see you tomorrow Tsumu.” you reach for an embrace by him once more as you bid him farewell since you figured Osamu would be back in the next couple of hours.
You drove the rest of the way home numb and confused.

i feel like im not making any sense but does anyone else feel like there are stories that let u run with them and ones that spell everything out for you
#im reading that post that says artists are directors of audience reaction and not its dictator:#'you cannot guarantee that everyone viewing your work will react as you are trying t make them react. a good artist knows that this is what#allows work to breath. by definition you cannot have art where the viewer brings nothing to the table ... this is why you have to let go of#the urge to plainly state in text exactly how you think the work should be interpreted ... its better to be misinterpreted sometimes than#to talk down to your audience. you wont even gain any control that way; people will still develop their opinions no matter what you do#im thinking abt this again cuz i was thinking maybe the thing that lets adventure time work so well the way it does is cuz it doesnt#take itself too seriously that it gives the audience enough room to fuck with subtext and then fuck with them back yknow. i think it was#mentioned somewhere that they werent even planning to run with the postapocalyptic elements that are hinted in the show but changed their#mind after the one off with the frozen businessmen and dominoed into marcy and simons backstory. on the other side there are stories that#explain too much to let the story speak for itself and i think it ends up having to do more with the crew trying to lead ppl in a certain#direction than expand on what they have and i see a lot of this with miraculous. like when interviews and tweets are used as word of god in#arguments and it becomes a little stifling to play around with it knowing the creator can just interject. u can say its the crews effort to#engage with its audience but it feels more like micromanaging. and none of this is to say there ISNT room for stories that spell things out#theyre just suited for different things. if sesame street tried abstract approaches to themes and nuance itd be counterproductive#a lot of things fly over my head so i need help picking things apart to get it- but it doesnt have to be from the story itself. ive picked#picked up or built on my own interpretations listening to other ppl share their thoughts which creates conversation around the same thing#sometimes stories will spell things out for you without being so obvious abt it that it feels like its woven into the text. my fav example#for this might be ATLA using younger characters as its main cast but instead of feeling like its dumbed down for kids to understand why war#is bad its framed from a childs point of view so younger audiences can pick up on it by relating to the characters. maybe an 8 year old#wont get how geopolitics works but at least they get 'hey the world is a little more complicated than everyone vs. fire nation'. same for#steven universe bc its like theyre trying to describe and put feelings into words that kids might not have so they have smth to start with#especially with the metaphors around relationships bc even if it looks unfamiliar as a kid now maybe the hope is for it to be smth you can#look back to. thats why it feels like these shows grew up with me.. instead of saving difficult topics for 'when im ready for it'#as if its preparing me for high school it gave me smth to turn in my hands and revisit again and again as i grow. stories that never#treated u as dumb all along. just someone who could learn and come back to it as many times as u need to. i loved SU for the longest time#but i felt guilty for enjoying it hearing the way ppl bash it. bc i was a kid and thought other ppl understood it better than me and made#feel bad for leaning into the message of paying forward kindness and not questioning why steven didnt punish the diamonds or hold them#accountable. but im rewatching it now and going oh. i still love this show and what it was trying to teach me#yapping#diary

you know i dont really like the idea of evelyn being a bad person but i do like the idea of her being a bit woefully unable to understand what caleb was going through and accidentally coming across as condescending because of it
like a friend who truly saying it because they care but completely unable to understand the circumstances of why you're still there in the first place
