I dunno, just my general thoughts on Arcane fandom discourse these days:
Ok, I know that the majority turned to love demonising Silco so unilaterally nowadays (whether it's twitter/tiktoc/reddit..) even though the showrunners themselves have stated that there is no set villain. While this is sad to watch how media illiteracy has gone wild, it's actually frustrating AND fearful because I get the strong feeling of how the dominant mass media really is effective in pushing non-first-world-western-white agendas to the margins and silencing minority voices.
Let me be clear before someone say "but fiction and real world problem/history are different" - YES I FUCKIN KNOW, thank you very much. Surely I can clarify the distinction between them. However, what I'm saying is that it is also true that fiction has a profound impact on the way viewers perceive reality.
I come from a background where my country is built upon a history of people who fought by any means necessary to overthrow imperialist oppressors in 20C (and they were not just "freedom fighters" but all kinds of ideologists from right-wing nationalists to left-wing marxists all together fighting for one goal) to gain independent nation. There were reasons why people had to fight without regard to morality or a particular ideology during that time in order to overthrow the whole system. And in reality, these methods cannot be morally flawless or without side effects - just like how Shimmer is the perfect metaphorical symbol of that in Arcane and thus the episode title is "The Base Violence Necessary for Change". Moreover, in reality the ppl/country that colonised us still defines those who fought for the independent nation as terrorists or criminals to convince that they are the so-called "wrongdoers" (which is not so ironic is it? if you think about how Piltover-side "champions" react to them and what their primary goal is in S2 trailers).
Coming from this part of the historical view, I can't help but understand and support Silco's agenda and sympathise of what his mind had gone through. Not just him but Sevika and Jinx as well (which is why it's a hoot to see some of their fans HATE Silco and I'm like 'jeez do these people even know what the mental/political heritage is? Those characters are built upon his legacy, and the showrunners & writers clearly know what they are doing'). Well, more precisely, because I come from a non-anglowhite world where we had gone through these complex history of independence movement and developmental dictatorship issue, it feels clearer to me where the showrunners - especially Alex Yee since he wrote almost every dialogue of Silco - got their ideas from which part of history & politics and what perspective they are trying to convey through these characters who believe in "the nation of Zaun".
So whenever I see how Arcane fandom discourses are so violent in hating so-called "villains", I really cannot fathom how much they are based on the inadvertently-western-central-imperialistic-and-capitalistic perspective... but then again, this is just some marginalised viewer's thought right? lol

I can't believe they gave mikey drugs /hj(Not even close to drugs in looks and way of happening but kinda acts like drugs(I have never done drugs, i don't actually know what drugs are like lol)
I genuinely didn't think splinter was dying in the episode, it's weird but I totally thought it'd be a fake-out where we think shredder killed him but it was something different idk, I realize now that it was obvious but i'm not the brightest sofvfnoj fdngjk df eheh lol I love it tho, that scene is so funny, fucked up. shredder is fucked up, i love it.
it was like 44 minutes long I don't actually remember what was where in it kfjfifgnifsdsg
I really like Mikey in this episode, i love him saying that he knows every krang base in Dimension X, that's fucking cool, i like that alot. I like references to him knowing alot about Dimension X and the Kraang. I think it fits alot and i jusgt uoabdhijsdlfhijonkg jdj <3
I liikkkeeee it :]
I think aprils fun in this episode, I like seeing her fight in major moments(all tho moments that aren't as major can be quite lackluster sadly, The fight between her and Karai comes to mind, I cringed so much mherjheheeehehe) I think she can be a really good character when she isn't getting pushed to the sidelines or being used as a crush for donnie and casey and nothing else. I like when she's a badass. :3
I swear they had a new intro for season 3 with the cool ass outfits(The like, more grey outfits) and then they used them like... 3 times in the whole series after the farmhouse arc thing. and even during the farmhouse arc they didn't use them much :( I really like those outfits, they look really good, i wish they used them more brrr
also!! Agent bishop!! woah!!!!!! Agent Bishop!!!(I have no clue who this guy is but I've heard of him in fanfiction teehe) Woah! Bishop!! Chess piece!! woahhh!! aaaa

if i sent a post forget about this ( i love ur mammon thing) but i have a challenge for you 2 of your fav demon brothers and 2 of your fav undateables random headcannons do what you want with it
Oooooh, random headcanons about my favourite lads, eh? I can do that!
So for this, I'll be doing five each for Mammon, Lucifer, Diavolo and Simeon!
— Mammon
This man has ADHD, and could get a diagnosis if he doesn't have one already; his biggest hyperfixations are money and money-making (of course) and, once he meets them, MC. Though of course, his hyperfixation on MC turns into actual love!
His crow familiars are so dear to him; although he has so many - every one in the Devildom, in fact - he can remember... most of their names, understand their chirps and chirp back to them, and they understand him in return.
He really likes Britain, particularly England! He's had to spend quite a bit of time there, so he's grown fond of it. (The only reason I have for this one is that the biblical Mammon is supposedly Hell's ambassador for England--)
In his demon form, he can and will coo like a bird when he's content... especially if people pet his head or his wings, scratch him under the chin, or generally give him lots of praise!
He keeps a lot of keepsakes that remind him of good times, and he looks at them often. Even though people give him a hard time... he loves his brothers more than anything, and he always will, so he often looks in his box of mementos when he's sad or stressed.
— Lucifer
This is another man who can and will coo like a bird in his demon form! Stroke his wings, scratch the base of his horns, tell him he's handsome; he'll be practically purring, his feathers all puffed up.
He hasn't had a solid eight hours sleep in... probably quite literally hundreds of years; between having to get up early for work and just stressing about his brothers, it just doesn't happen.
You know how you get wine buffs? Well, Lucifer is like that, but for coffee; he can tell you all about the different types of coffee, can tell which blend is which just by their aroma.
...He's also a wine buff, as it goes; he has refined tastes, and he enjoys a drink - helps with the stress - so it's just a hobby that he's picked up over the years. He has lots of knowledge about wine!
Deep down inside, he actually just wishes he could be spoiled and taken care of and given a rest... he wants someone else to be in charge for once; not that he would ever admit it, his pride wouldn't let him.
— Diavolo
This man used to be in love with Lucifer, when he was an angel and at the beginning of their working relationship; but when he saw that Lucifer didn't return his feelings, he was content to just have him as a dear friend.
He often gives Barbatos assignments that... really aren't assignments; they're actually just picnics, friendly visits to various nice locations, dinners... Diavolo is very lonely, he needs to ensure some kind of interaction!
He loses a lot of sleep, too; he spends so long worrying about whether or not he can make his dreams come true, whether he's a worthy successor to his father, that those thoughts often keep him up at night.
He has a secret social media account not under his own name where he can just reblog fun things about video games and food and cars. Sometimes he needs a break from being the prince!
Once, he got really bored and insisted that he and Barbatos switched places, Diavolo being Barbatos's butler for the day. Diavolo had tons of fun, but Barbatos found it all very embarrassing, so they never speak of it.
— Simeon
He's easily tricked, in a way; not because he's dumb, he certainly isn't, but because he just... doesn't know some things. Belphegor once managed to get him to tell Lucifer that he had a 'yee yee ass haircut,' claiming it was a compliment--
He spends a lot of time daydreaming, thinking about new stories to write, new plots, new characters and other such things; his mind tends to wander.
He isn't as loyal to his position as an angel as it may seem... after being in the Devildom and meeting humans too, he wants the freedom that those worlds have, because the Celestial Realm isn't like that.
This man hasn't been on a real, actual date before he meets MC: he's been too busy being an angel and too committed to following Celestial Realm rules to do that with anyone.
He has absolutely thought of going to a human world or Devildom court and legally adopting Luke, and just living in either of those worlds with him as a happy family... sometimes he thinks he'd prefer that to all his duties.

OKAY OKAY OKAY! I CAME TO THIS CONCLUSION LAST FUCKING NIGHT! CONNIE THE MOTHERFUCKING SPRINGER IS GAY!
So at first I just thought he was a really confident and comfortable heterosexual, y'know? BUT NOW! NOW!? oh no, no, no!
Reason numbrero uno! He has feminine hips. Straight boys don't strut like that, straight boys don't fucking be flexible like that.
Reason numbrero duex! He says bitch waaay to much. So if you don't know the history of the word bitch, bitch was also used a a gay slur for y'know twinks. You don't see Jean or Levi OR EVEN EREN going around going bitch, bitch, bitch, fucking crazy bitches. Sure maybe once in awhile, but Connie use it like a sister y'know?
Reason numbrero drei! Look at who the fucking hell he's hanging 'round with! Ymir; the fucking bitch lesbian. Christa/Historia; the lesbian or bi girl dude. He's the fucking second lesbian protector (next to Eren). You see that gay ass gay homie grab in like what season 3? Or was it 2? He's friends with Sasha, who does she hang out with most of the time!? Ymir and Historia! Sometimes Jean and Mikasa. Speaking of Jean, he ain't sleek either! Connie hanging 'round with a fucking bi-saster a bi disaster! Not to mention Reiner and Armin! We see him worry about Reiner and Bertholdt when they “missing” asking someone to check on them to see if there alive! Man looking out for his gay homies! Also in one of the games he asks Armin why he spends so much time with Eren, to which Armin shoots back with one of the most gay awakening responses, “Hm well what about Ymir and Historia, or Reiner and Bertholdt?” Like yo.
Reason numbrero shi! He mom picks out gay ass fucking names! Sunny, Martin, Connie. Fucking gay dude. (everyone seems to think Sunny is a girl but judging by there titans I actually think Sunny was a boy dude. That’s just a hunch tho~)
Reason numbrero five! He seems like the kinda guy who would wear jewelry. Not really necessarily gay BUt~ I think earrings would so be he thing, and if he we’re to come out he’d probably start wearing one earring!
Reason numbrero six! Look at the kind of shit this man does! He fucking carried Armin princess style, put him down like a prince, bruh he fucking CHOSE to he CHOSE to. He knew what he was doing. And that one official art where he’s wearing that blonde lopsided wig with makeup on. That dress with the fake boobs in it!
Reason numbrero 7! My mama always say, that if a boy is best friends with a girl he will almost always usually fall for her. Connie is close as HELL with Sasha. And while I LOVE springles. This know discovery is D A W N I N G on me! Connie don’t really seem to show that much interest in women. But not necessarily to men either. And that factor being. I think bby Connie is shy!
Overall I think he’s a great fucking character! I love Connie, but this just made me open a whole new chapter for him. I’m currently rewatching AOT with my mom ‘cause she done wanted to watch it and I couldn’t let her watch that cringey dub so yee. I’ll be paying attention for other Easter eggs and clues. I never researched Connie to much but now that I have I’m made some pretty interesting discoveries! In conclusion Connie Springer is probably fucking gay. SO in other words you were RIGHT! ATTACK ON TITAN IS FUCKING GAY! 😍
( j u s t l i k e m e l o l )
srry for the late reply, but you’ve actually convinced me
mans comes across heterosexual but he definitely had a crush on every single male member of the 104th. literally every one. and like many others, one of the older scouts was his gay awakening. and im not saying that connie had a crush on them or anything, and this is definitely not a ship post between connie and any adult in the show, but im just saying that he admired them. a lot. too much. and had to look away when they got changed in front of him.
“connie why do you offer to go kill titans with captain levi whenever we have a mission?”
“i admire his skills!”
“connie, you do realise that erwin doesn’t have time to have tea with you right?”
“no i know i just wanted to talk about stuff with him. professional stuff. as a soldier.”
“connie, you know that moblit doesn’t need an assistant right? he is the assistant”
“WELL SUE ME FOR WANTING TO BE HELPFUL JEAN-“
he’d simp for armin so hard. every week he has a crush on someone new, and then it goes in a loop. and he’d “practice” kissing too. like he’d occasionally bring the topic up in conversation and then go from there based off of the persons reply. “hey uh, jean, so like- have you had your first kiss yet?” and then jean would tell him no and connie would go full internal gay panic. “o- oh yeah, thas- thas cool, um, well, i havent- had mine either so like- would you wanna practice? it doesn’t count-“
connie would have his first everything with jean and it would be so funny because it just happens all at once. like hed get asked if hes ever kissed someone and hed just glare at jean and be so flustered
connie finds it so difficult to tell romantic and platonic feelings apart and thats why hes fallen for all of his friends
armin: oh, connie, thanks for doing that favour for me! i dont know what id do without you!
eren: wait! hurry, where do they keep the extra blades?!
connie: in the cellar!
eren: great- connie, i love you!
marco: see connie? if you just fold the paper a little more, youll get there :) youre a pleasure to teach and i love spending time with you :)
also why do i feel like connie and marco dated for a little while? not even dated then, had a thing going on for a bit. like besides from jean because he doesnt count, but connies first romantic encounter was with marco, fight me
and i definitely feel like connie went to hange for some advice about his sexuality. he was so confused and liking everyone at the same time, so who else better to go to than the person who tried to convince erwin to start an lgbtq+ youth club right?
but when eren and armin announced that they were officially dating, that was an eye opener for connie and it made him realise that its okay to be yourself
and it took him a while to actually realise that he was gay. hence the fact that hed physically gag whenever someone suggested for him to date sasha, and all those times in the boys changing room that hed have to turn around or leave completely
so yes, i can see where youre coming from, and i agree with you. but if we were to list the people connie has simped for from most-least?
marco
armin
jean
eren
levi (not really simping, more fanboying/celebrity crush)
reiner
moblit (same as levi)
bertholdt

streetlights || iwaizumi drabble
synopsis: reader recalls memories of iwaizumi on the subway on their way to the temple
word count: 1k
warnings: character death, angst
authors note: wrote this longish drabble while listening to streetcar thanks to my anxiety over losing someone i love ha. based loosely off the following lyrics:
seems like street lights, glowing, happen to be just like moments passing in front of me
you remembered why you hated riding the subway at night as soon as you took an empty seat in the back.
on the way to school in the morning, the subway would be crammed with businessmen, students, and tourists of the like being shoulder to shoulder. as crowded as it would be, it would be easy to lose a face in the crowd. that wasn’t the case now.
your train in particular only had five other people who were scattered in random seats across the cart and as average as they were, you subconsciously observed them. as the train continued to shake and make its way to the quieter side of the city, you knew you would remember their faces for the rest of your life.
if that was the case for yourself, you wondered how others on the train would observe you at that moment. you sat up a bit straighter and your grip on the bouquet of flowers tightened.
you felt self-conscious at the thought of strangers judging you, pitying you. usually, you never cared but for them to witness you in such a vulnerable state made your chest feel tight.
by the grace of God, the lights on the subway had flickered off. the passengers paid no attention to the absence of light on the train, some were too busy in their own heads to even realize they were all surrounded by darkness.
the only source of light came from japan’s skyline and the tinted streetlamps that were stationed along the track. to pass the time, you tried to count each streetlamp as the train rushed by it but you quickly lost count when your mind thought of him again.
you could feel yourself starting to get overwhelmed so you focused on the streetlights instead. of course, something about the cool hues and halos of the lights made you think of him, even though you were trying to distract yourself and do the opposite.
you remembered that one night by iwaizumi’s side, parked on some lonely road with the two of you lying on the hood of his dad’s beat-up car. the impromptu star-gazing date was a direct result of his car breaking down yet again, but instead of throwing a fit, you ushered him out of the car to point out a few constellations.
iwa thought you were insane but he followed you out of the car anyway. while the tow truck was on its way, the two of you spoke softly back and forth. every now and then, he would press a kiss as light as a feather onto your temple that would stop your train of thought momentarily before you would go back to talking about the stars.
you remembered the time you had forgotten your coat after practice and iwaizumi, being the gentlemen his parents had raised him to be, had wrapped his own jacket around your shoulders. it was unusually chilly for an autumn evening but anytime a sudden breeze picked up, you would squeeze his hand.
you were apologetic about making him suffer because of your forgetfulness but iwaizumi didn’t mind as long as he got to hold your hand.
the most recent memory you had of him was from that sunday morning almost a week and a half ago. the sheets were tossed lazily around and the weight of his legs tangled with yours made your bed feel full. you remembered his sleepy gaze and his raspy voice making an incoherent “morning” as iwa lazily traced his fingertips across your back.
you tried to roll over to the other side to grab your phone but that only made him pull you closer to his chest. you pretended to struggle and you even tried to dodge the kisses that he kept planting across your face but that only made him kiss you even harder.
you wished you remembered every little detail of him on that last day.
you remember falling back asleep and staying in bed until the afternoon while he had left just before you woke up. you hazily recall him telling you that he loved you and that he would see you the next day but even then, you weren’t sure if you were conscious enough to tell him that you loved him back.
if you could rewind time, you would’ve never let him leave your bed.
you didn’t even realize you were crying until you heard a soft sob come from the train. you tore your eyes away from the streetlights and looked around, only to figure out you were the one who let out the noise.
you pathetically wiped away as many tears as you could and ignored the sympathetic gaze one of the female passengers gave you before getting off at your stop. you were thankful to be off that damn train but as you started walking down the abandoned street, you missed the company of the strangers.
you walked down the side of the road as the stars and lampposts shined overhead as if they were there to make you feel less alone, but you kept your eyes on the ground. it wasn’t until you reached the temple that your feet stopped moving.
you gripped the bouquet in one hand and the gate with the other as you hung your head down. the small whimper that came out of your mouth was almost as pathetic as before but this time, instead of holding it in, you took one shaky breath and bawled.
the sobs shook your body so hard, you had to hold onto the gate with both hands to keep your body upright.
you couldn’t bring yourself to push open the gate, no matter how badly you wanted to visit him. if you opened the gate, it would almost be you acknowledging that he was really gone and you weren’t ready to face it.
after a few minutes of crying, your grip loosened on the gate and you could feel the blood rushing back to your fingers. you couldn’t do it. there was no way you could bring yourself to go in there.
so like every day before, since the funeral, you turned your back to the temple where his ashes were held and pathetically made your way back to the train station. the streetlights flickered overhead, knowing full well that they’d see you tomorrow, the day after, and however many days it would take you to walk through those gates.

TPN S02E04 - Initial Thoughts (anime-only)
viewing + post-ep talk with my friends: Google Drive (sorry, youtube denied me again)
(i) Translations are in the English (USA) CC (including the english bits as well for those who struggle with the audio/language, etc.)
pls validate my efforts and watch it.
there’s some anime-only talk about the adaptation towards the end, I wasn’t trying to be arrogant, just mention it to my friends based on some things I’d heard and without spoiling them about what is different that I do know of specifically. But if you want to avoid that, feel free to!
I definitely said it a bit too in favor of the anime, and obviously my friends’ just got my simplified thoughts on it? Like when they said it makes sense for the anime to move on quicker, but that’s not really what’s different.
So yeah, please forgive the dubious things in that segment, I really just didn’t think about my words a lot.
.
. Random thoughts
The fish bug scenes were delightful TvT Also the animation during them trying to grab them???
The OST during Isabella’s scenes???? take me
I think we also heard the OST sneak peak from a while ago during the cave confrontation with the army force human
Don is a useless nightwatch, goddamn it Don
Don is an epic chairman.
Loved the shot of Ray shooting at the big demon (why didn’t Emma get a cool shot? :THONK:), very dynamic, very epic.
Also them running together to push the man off the cliff was... something haha.
I’m losing my mind that we’re actually just ending on the way ep1 started. Same animation loops too, eh. to be expected, and obviously adjusted for different clothing and items but. still as someone who wants to praise for not re-using animation, rip.
EMMA HAVING SLEEPING CHILDREN AROUND HER AWWWW
Eyy Ray took a bath with the others too, yay
.
. The bunker
So, the twist was that there was really.... no twist at all. Minerva was a good guy, he tried his best, he got discovered and chased.
And yet, I don’t think the bunker was previously discovered by the farms, which would at least warrant a “scare” like that, effectively making it a trap. They may have been aware of a shelter’s existence, but I don’t think they’ve been there before.
You could probably assume that the Troup that attacked our characters may have also removed the previous escapees from the scene --- but if that was the case, why leave all of the letters and other things in place. Not getting there immediately is understandable, they seem to arrived by foot (what? do you plan to keep an eye on the children the whole like 5 day march back or however long it took?? dang). So that’s not it.
So: what caused the HELPs? the person writing in the book seems to have been abandoned or more likely, are the only survivor of their group (maybe the only person in the group at all). Now it’d be an option for them to have found this safe haven and decided to just spend their days there, slowly losing their minds and doing the things on the wall. But then the message in the book, on the other hand, seems traumatized and sad, but not as lost as the carvings on the wall.
So either, they calmed down after going crazy and then once they did, they decided to leave.
Or it’s from two different people (or multiple), the one after the “HELP” one probably leaving the uplifting message in the book nearby of the scribbles.
I’m not sure which I’d find more likely, but all in all, I’m not sure why they didn’t just have the demons already know of the place and just have the letter (they probably wouldn’t have searched everything in the place) not be as obviously placed and then boom, they could still have made all discoveries they needed and when they found the help wall, it would have been from children trapped in the room while the men searched the bunker, wanting help.
* Clearly that’s not what they were going for, since there’s also day-counting things, but even that you could have explained by saying, they missed a child and the other escapees convinced them that they died, somehow and so they were left behind, traumatized by their friends being taken back and giving up for a while. It still runs into the same “but how can it be the same person?” doubt that my friend brought up, but I think that it’d justify the shock value of the wall more. Still not really making the whole “HELP” thing add up though, since that just sounds like there’s an immediate threat, when there isn’t. The only other thing I can think of is that the entire wall wasn’t one instance, so the counting could be solitude, the HELPs acute danger and the names probably also solitude. The drawing on the right also makes me think it was probably a child as well, fairly young. Poor kid.
Unless there’s something more to it I feel like it makes a little more sense, but still not a lot (WHY’D YOU LEAVE YOUR SNACKS, BRO) but seeing as we’ve left, I don’t think we’ll get to know.
.
I’m assuming the way the farm knew now is either a) they were aware but didn’t see any reason to go there unless there were children there, b) they saw the coordinate carvings (thanks Ray) or c) the pursuers contacted the farms (which would make sense, and again, thanks Ray).
.
.. the farm has a military force???
I also find it kind of funny that the farms have a military force??? Because so far, we’ve never seen them use guns to do anything. Which makes me think they might not be farm-intern but from an outside force, maybe the humans who are more “on-level” with them?
Like, what do they do all day. They’re probably not part of the buff demon guards and.... idk man haha-
.
. Isabella
Ahh I was happy to see her! I was even happier to be like “hah, prison. Knew it.” and then later reacting to the offer, even though that wasn’t exactly what I called, but damn. the pride. my fucking expression too lol, i couldn’t hide it at all pff.
Her jump in motivation is a little weird, but I do see it as, someone who has basically accepted their fate, and when that gets challenged, the will to live takes over.
I’m also not quite sure how she’s supposed to capture them if she can’t leave?
And then of course there’s whatever they promised her aside from “freedom” (which, if that just means being let outside, good luck ma’am there’s demons everywhere) - or is the transportation to the human world included? :D
Based on her clothing in the OP, I might have guessed it’d be “become a grandma” but that doesn’t really go well with the promise of freedom so.... I don’t know where that entire thing is going pff-
We don’t know a lot about what drives Isabella but one of the few things we do know is a) will to live and b) Leslie (????), hence the lullaby in “stressful” situations.
She already got the will to live with the baseline deal, so the only thing I can think of that would make her react more than freedom would be that Leslie’s alive and she can see him if she helps.
I’m not sure if she’s interested in anything else, like how the world works or what she can do for anyone, like.... hm. Of course it could totally be something that we just don’t know yet but yeah I guess that’s my guess.
They probably won’t give up Ray and seeing as she’s more concerned about his brain than anything, I don’t think even if they did allow her to take him with her, it probably wouldn’t mean a lot to her. Plus, why lose another high quality cattle.
I guess it could be, she did seem she wanted to be a proper mother figure, but idk something tells me it’s probably not something like that.
It would also be more “???” than “OHHH” of an reveal. Then again, Leslie is also an obvious choice so.
Maybe it’s something entirely new, we’ll see :D
.
. The possibily wrong date
So when Anna writes a journal thingy, we see this
And, well, their escape happened in January 2046, so... for that to be true, somewhere along the line, an entire year would have had to pass.
I’m assume this is a production error because
they didn’t get to harvest once
they wouldn’t wait a year to talk about the plan to go back
Ray wouldn’t need an ear patch for so long, he only has a cut
the montage only showed 22nd and 23rd, if an entire year had passed, we’d have been shown more varied dates, etc.
then it makes even less sense for why the army shows up one year later out of nowhere :D
...
Smh, CloverWorks, what can you even do right.
.
Yee, thanks for reading!

can you see an ending to SOK where yun lives / yun redemption? i've been thinking a lot about the trend of abused kids never getting over their abuse and dying instead, and i feel like FCYee does a good job of writing yun and i don't want to say he's guilty of this trend, but sometimes i wonder if there could've been another ending. sorry if this ask is weird/uncomfy, you don't have to answer. have a nice day!
ok so...I am writing a meta about this (familiar anon i see you) but I feel like it’s worth answering here, too. this is less of a meta and more my personal thoughts so there’s no graphic descriptions of anything but I’ll put it under a cut because it got long, tw for canon typical violence/death.
short answer: yeah, there were workarounds but nothing that wouldn’t change the motifs, themes, plot points of the novels. I think the novels set out to make a different point on abuse than atla (think “it was wrong and it was cruel” as opposed to avatar “the obligation to be more than the sum of her grievances with the world” kyoshi) which isn’t a bad thing, necessarily. also, like, atla was a kids show and the kyoshi novels are ya and they very successfully make points on moral ambiguity and who gets to live and who gets to die. I agree and think f.c. yee handled it pretty well and yun was “meant” to die based on his backstory and evidence discussed below + the fact that he’s emulating the cycle of abuse by the end of the book. could it have been done differently? absolutely. was this story meant to? not really. you already said that it doesn’t feel like yun was killed off instead of writing about him dealing with the impacts of abuse, because the impacts were dealt with and explored just...he died at the end anyway, because of the places dealing with that stuff lead him. quoting a line from below the cut but yes, yun apologism on main. but I very much prefer to do it within canon, I think.
but would I want to see a version where yun lived? a little, yeah, because I wanted, well, justice for him. I wanted him to reunite with rangi and kyoshi and meet team avatar and live out the rest of his life happy and free from jianzhu because I love yun’s characterization, but as a character he has a bigger part of the narrative than being someone I’m attached to. I think that also begs the question should he have been used in those narratives of abuse the way that he was if someone like me (whose relationships could be classified under “complicated” at the very least) could relate and love him, especially for a YA novel? also not sure. maybe it’s not that deep, especially because what’s already been written and published is all but set in stone (and I am not very interested in writing fix-it fanfiction, just building on canon).
so those are my personal thoughts summed up (there’s extra rambling on why he was supposed to die + a plot workaround below). when all is said and done, this is a storyline I turn to in order to cope, but if there’s anything similar that perhaps ends with the survivor alive...any recs would be appreciated, from anyone! thank you for asking and making sure I’d feel ok ruminating on it <3 I hope you have a nice day too!
contextual evidence...zoryu going “some people will always change you back to who you were,” rangi asking kyoshi why she didn’t stop yun and kyoshi’s only answer being that seeing him had turned her back to her unsure state, yun trying to rid kyoshi of her fans and all her character growth during the final Boss Battle™...these things are a theme. you can’t strip the books of this touch of some are always meant to end, esp b/c that stuff was set up in trok (I always seem to come back to kyoshi asserting her only duty was to protect her loved ones in yokoya and then her duty becoming something much larger) so I feel like you couldn’t get rid of yun death without significant workarounds in the motifs and plot points in the novels.
that being said, I’m sure there are and were plot workarounds to killing yun. there’s an alternate universe out there where the novels ended with yun being a parallel to lao ge (I’ve talked about how they parallel each other before I think it’s very spicy; here and here), where he becomes jianzhu’s successor and just like lao ge kept kyoshi accountable on the other side of things, this time to the bureaucracy of the earth kingdom instead of lao ge’s agenda. this would also tie up when lao ge said something along the lines of “jianzhu does good work.” the novels are in no way perfect and the ending and pacing in the last third of the book do feel rushed to me (although the last kyoshi pov chapter ends sooo sentimental, enough for me to call f.c. yee a sap) but I feel they do establish the ways that kyoshi is going to cope with being a political figure, but I’ll have to elaborate on that somewhere else, so I digress.
the truth of it is this, and it is very harsh—yun was always supposed to be dead. we see it in how he and kyoshi have very similar backstories and the ways that jianzhu and kelsang are also pitted against each other their kids (well, kelsang’s kid, jianzhu’s pupil) end up dealing with the reasons why they were brought in. kelsang saved kyoshi from the goodness of his heart, he took her in and raised her like his own child (this makes me very emotional...) whereas yun was taken in because he was thought to be the avatar. then it turns out that kyoshi might be the avatar, but she is still kelsang’s daughter first, with kelsang honoring her wishes to keep it secret and letting her comfort him on the iceberg, and then when he believed kyoshi over jianzhu. establishing kyoshi’s humanity is really important in the novels so we can give kelsang a big thank you to him and then later to rangi to make sure kyoshi loves and treats herself well.
what i’m getting at here is that if yun hadn’t been taken in for being the avatar, he would’ve been dead and it’s a form of uh...narrative checkov’s gun in a way? there’s only so long you can make something of yourself by beating tourists at pai sho. kyoshi and yun both had expiration dates and only by the grace of jianzhu and kelsang did they survive. yun reassures himself that life is a game and “he will survive a turn longer.” his story is always about doing the next thing to survive, to prove he’s worthy of the survival and salvation given to him by jianzhu. kyoshi’s story is not about deserving avatarhood, it’s about becoming the avatar. it’s a key difference in the way the narrative treats them. if he’s hadn’t been mistaken for the avatar, he would literally be nothing. he’d be dead.
and there’s only so far you can go playing the person who deserved avatarhood if you’re not the avatar, and I think that mainly accounts for discrepancies in the idea of justice and how yun and kyoshi get to act on it because believe me, I would’ve loved to see yun tear the whole thing down. like, to see kyoshi have to kill yun for destroying the system (this is an oversimplification*) and then have her declared the “breakdown of negotiations?” like alright...sure, jan. let the boy kill a few people!! eat the rich!! murder isn’t even that bad anyway (/joking).
*yun is literally declared the residue of kuruk’s generation’s sins by hei-ran. this theme of legacy and cycles of abuse is emulated to him which brings me to acknowledge that yeah, it’s really shitty to see him killed when that theme lives in both him and kyoshi. it is a symbolic ending to the cycle of abuse when kyoshi “puts him away” (did she have to say that!!!) but that shit hurts, man. however the line “I’m sorry I said you would have to live with your pain. Because you won’t,” serves to acknowledge that by the end of the duology, yun himself has become an abuser. he’s shoving kyoshi into boxes, tries to kill rangi (to be fair rangi tried to kill him minutes/seconds earlier but he did try to kill her mom for allowing a man to try to kill him. it’s almost like...a cycle), he holds people hostage, terrorizes and murders several people in his pov chapters...at least lao ge was subtle about his work.
so yes, yun apologism on main. but I very much prefer to do it within canon, I think.

first of all, your gifs are so beautiful?? i've lurked around your blog and it's changed so much. i hope you're doing well now. also i don't know if anyone asked this yet, but how did you come up with the tags/nicknames for ateez members? [ex. fuji san, soulmate, yee hwa, woo? you!]
Hello! Thank you for thinking so ;;_;; I am doing alright these days! You speak like you know me from before, may I know who you are? 👀
The tags for the boys are...quite random really.
I chose Yee Hwa for Hwa at first because I didn't know any better tag, but recently changed it to 火星 which means mars! Why I chose to put it in Japanese is because the characters separately means fire and star. The fact that star is in it was perfect,, bwcause honestly Seonghwa is such a bright star.
Woo? You! Actually comes from the GD song Who You. While not really a love song...I found the fun on it good enough to use it as a tag. I find it fun whenever I tag him because it is always like who? you! in my head.
Fuji San simply comes from the fact that San means mountain. Fuji is a mountain. The san in fuji san comes from the Japanese writing for the name 富士山 in which the san 山 means mountain. Therefore I chose Fuji San... so the san refers to the mountain aspect and San.
Care Bear comes from the feeling that Yunho basically is the human embodiment of a Care Bear. Big, soft, warm aura, always happy, loving and lovable, precious. Now every time I see something care bear related I just think of Yunho really. It sparks happiness.
Jongho's Teddybear tag comes from the idea that he gives off teddybear plushie vibes. He has a round face and this adorable nose, he isn't as slim as most idols and built broadly. He seems huggable and soft at first sight. He is too adorable, had to name him teddybear.
Friendly Giant comes from the thought that Mingi is obviously...tall. But he is such a sweetheart! He has a very soft and reserved personality. A warm smile and a sense of playfulness to him. Therefore Friendly Giant.
Petit Prince is because Yeosang as beautiful as he is, just makes me think of royalty. He just comes over as a Disney prince with his beautiful and soft visuals but is also very s o f t personality wise. Therefore I chose Petit Prince. A little prince.
Soulmate for Joong. I actually don't remember why I chose that tag for him. I reckon because despite him being the reason I got into ATEEZ and me trying ny best not to bias him for a while, I just gave in to him. He just makes me smile, gives me a warm feeling inside and genuinly makes me happy. So I guess based on those emotions, I'd say the tag soulmate quite fits the boy.

For the ask thing: 3, 30, 29
3 rant. just do it-
OK, I’m honestly STILL bitter about a Disney movie, and it is because WAAAY back in the day, I had this one notebook. I had it from middle school to long after high school (actually, I STILL have it). Inside this notebook, I had several lists of different story ideas, some were my own original ones, and some were inspired by/based on existing things. I would write the title, or just the description of what it was, then next to that write if I wanted it to be a movie that was live-action or animated, CGI/stop-motion/traditional, a TV series that was either live-action/animated in various forms, a video game, a book or book series, or a comic. There was like a few hundred story ideas in there. Obviously I don’t think somebody from tinsel town somehow found this notebook and stole my ideas or whatever, this isn’t the real-life version of Big Fat Liar, but y’know, obviously when it comes to existing/well-known stories there are gonna be other people out there who do similar things, and I’ll either not care because even if it comes from the same source it is still different (I have a Jack and the Beanstalk story, and there like a dozen of those, no big deal, mine is fairly unique, it is fine), or maybe this thing is actually better than what I thought of and I’ll just be happy for it (this has happened like 4 or 5 times, if a story is good then it is just good, no hard feelings), or maybe I’ll decide to re-work my idea so it isn’t so similar to my thing (I had a story about like, were afterlife detectives for ghosts and what-not. Then RIPD came out, and I was like heck that is a better title, but I still liked my characters and plot way better, so I adjusted it into something else, yee and haw). THEN there are times when a movies does what I wanted to do, in almost EXACTLY the same way, but it does it WRONG. What I’m talking about is The Sorcerer’s Apprentice. I wanted to someday make a traditionally animated movie based around the Fantasia sequence, turn it into a real feature movie with Mickey Mouse going on a magical adventure, where he is joined by Donald/Goofy/Minnie/Daisy. They all have different abilities and skills, making them a classic fantasy group on a quest, and the world they travel through would have themes based on other Fantasia sequences (meeting the little nature fairies, dealing with the demons from Night on Bald Mountain, ect). OH, and it was gonna have Oswald! There was gonna be this whole deal where Mickey is like “I’m an orphan, I’m trying to find my family”, and OSwald is like “I’m searching for my long lost brother”... and then they both go “Good luck, hope you find them!”, but everybody else is just “OK OBVIOUSLY YOU TWO ARE RELATED, COME ON”. There was also gonna be this joke moment where they are picking out traveling clothes, and they all try stuff that is similar to the Kingdom Hearts outfits and then go “Nah”. Oh but NOOOOOO, that live-action version of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice came out, and it was just so BLAH. IT HAD NOTHING GOING ON. BLAH. I think my biggest peeve about it is how there is very littel apprentice-ing going on, this dude just gets told “Your a wizard Harry Dave!” by hobo-Nicolas Cage, and every scene where the dude “learns” magic is him not giving a heck or just trying to impress random hawt girl, or he’s given a ton of exposition while an intense action scene is rushing by, and there is no substance or story structure or character interaction and BLAH. I mean, it COULD have been good, even for what it was... but what we got was this odd combo of Spider-Man meets Harry Potter, and there was just very little depth to the characters and story, and even the silly moments weren’t that funny. Was this for teenagers? For little kids? For adults? Who knows, it wasn’t able to catch one audience age group, and it didn’t have universal appeal either, so BLAH.
30 if you had to dye your hair an unnatural color right now, what would you choose?
I guess like, sunset colors? Sorta yellow on top, faded to a red, and then more purple/blue
29 what quote or inspirational setting do you think is bs?
That narrative for ‘strong female characters” where something horrible happens to her, she is obviously traumatized, and then she decides “No, I won’t be a victim anymore!” because like.. no, if something bad happened to you, it wasn’t your fault, and you can do absolutely everything possible to prepare/protect yourself, and something bad might still happen. Nobody “chooses” to be a victim, it is just a random thing that happens. The idea that you can “choose” to not be a victim is a backwards way of blaming people for being victimized and hurt, and it happens a lot in stories about women finding “strength”, so yeah. No
thanks for asking~

Covert Operations - Chapter 61
DISCLAIMER: This is a modern AU crossover story with Outlander and La Femme Nikita. LFN and its characters do not belong to me nor do those from Outlander.
SYNOPSIS: Claire reports back to Section One with important Intel about her suspicions and with extra Intel about the triads with the names of potential suspects for Fergus to run a check on. Jamie returns to Section One just in time to hear the briefing.
MY THANKS to all those who are reading, liking or reblogging my story. THANK YOU. Previous chapters can be found at … https://sablelab.tumblr.com/covertoperations
CHAPTER 61
When Claire returned to her apartment that night, she dropped her keys on the bureau, kicked off her shoes and padded into her living room.
It had been a very eventual day and she had important intel that Fergus needed to know. Her meeting with Inspector Ng and the briefing had raised many concerns for her that may eventually lead to the one who was passing on information to the Rising Dragons. Hopefully this intel would bring their End Game closer and her mission at the OCTB to a quick conclusion. Having spent a month or more on the Madame Cheung mission profile with Jamie, she hoped that this one would be brief. It would mean that they were making rapid inroads to a final conclusion and would be a win-win for Section One. All being well then, hopefully Operations and Madeline would grant her and Jamie some much needed downtime when the mission was completed. She would really love to lay on a breach somewhere far away from Hong Kong and chill out for a while.
With these encouraging thoughts in mind Claire flopped down on the couch and immediately got in touch with Section One.
“Fergus are you there?”
“I'm here Beauchamp. Have you got something?”
He listened as Claire relayed some of the new Intel that had been discussed at the briefing and some of her other concerns that she had noted. However just before severing the communiqué with him she stated, “There is one other thing ...”
“Yeah?” He replied listening intently as she elaborated on the extra information and what she had observed since being at the OCTB.
“... Did you get all that Fergus?”
“Geeze Claire ... I'll have to clear that with Operations,” he stated gobsmacked at what she had told him.
“Then, do it.” ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Fergus took off his comm. unit and stared at his computer screen for several minutes just absorbing the information that Claire had communicated. Her words kept revibrating in his head. Could it be possible? Had Inspector Jiang Ng been the one to suppress the Intel concerning anyone associated with the Rising Dragons? Was he working directly for Sun Yee Lok or somebody else? Was the head of the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau really the plant? Claire had said it was entirely possible that he was the mole. Was there a triad war looming? Operations and Madeline wouldn’t like that. Were they closer to finding Jonathon Randall? If all this proved to be accurate then this was epic news that his superiors needed to hear.
So much information filled his brain with possibilities that needed to be checked, but he would relish the challenge of finding the connections Section One needed to ascertain the best way to profile the next stage of the mission. Fergus was shocked by the Intel Claire had passed on and he couldn’t wait to inform Operations in person. Leaving his communications station, he hurried along the corridors of Section towards the Perch. Her info had blown his mind. It seemed that she may have found out the very evidence that Section needed to make a move and sooner than they would have expected. If this data proved to be true then Section One would be expecting a visit from Inspector Jiang Ng in the not too distant future.
While walking briskly along the corridors towards the Perch, Fergus hurriedly rounded a corner and nearly ran smack dab into Operations. A little out of breath he stopped short just before bumping into Section One’s leader.
“Sir, I was just on my way to come see you,” he stated breathlessly.
“What is it Mr Claudel?”
“I’ve just received a message from Claire. Intel that she’s found out could be promising in capturing not only the mole at the OCTB but also Jonathon Randall.” Operations was pleased. “Excellent ... Anyone we already know?” “No.” “Who then?” He asked a little impatiently. Dougal Mackenzie always expected his techie to have the answer before he asked the question rather than have nothing concrete to report. Why waste his time? If he was not on the ball already and had found out something relevant then this was a wasted conversation. However, Fergus couldn’t contain his enthusiasm and blurted out the most damaging update. “Claire suspects that it may be the chief of the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau himself ... Inspector Jiang Ng.” “Do we have Intel on him?” “I’m working on it now.” Operations quickly changed his tune realising that his techie was indeed following through on Claire’s Intel. “Good to hear Fergus. I’m glad that you have made some inroads this will be beneficial when we debrief.” “Claire has confirmed our suspicions that Jonathon Randall may be involved with the Rising Dragons also.” “Good.” “She’s made plans for surveillance of The Triangle nightclub tomorrow night to check out the possibility that Inspector Jiang Ng is involved with Jonathon Randall and has connections to the Rising Dragons.” The news was getting better. “Excellent.” “There was one other thing too sir.” “What?” “The OCTB is checking out rival triads ... it seems that there is suspicion amongst them over Tony Wong and Madame Cheung.” “Get on it ASAP Fergus. We need to keep ahead of their investigations. There’s always the possibility that someone may recognise Claire and then her cover will be compromised and all our good work will be for naught.” “I’m on it.” “You have 24 hours. Can you handle it?” “Yes sir ... I can work within that time frame.” “Good. Then proceed.” ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Fergus Claudel returned to Systems with orders to cover all bases. Because they had invested so much time, energy and resources on the Rising Dragons’ missions, Section had been stretched a little thin. It had been their main priority despite all the other missions of late, but they had come too far to go back now. If Claire’s cover was compromised Fergus knew he would be in deep trouble, after all it was, he who devised the mission profile for her in the first place. However, he had anticipated any glitches that could occur and had a contingency back-up plan as a failsafe. Jamie’s return was imminent for the mission in Senegal had taken less time than anticipated, and that would be a good thing too if he was needed on this mission as support for Claire.
Immediately sitting down at his console, Fergus set to work. He hoped he would have all that he needed by the morning when Jamie was due to return then he would be able to debrief his leaders. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
The next morning, Madeline entered the Perch to find Operations in an animated discussion on the phone. He acknowledged her presence with a glance and nod then returned to his conversation.
“Colum ... We haven’t heard from you in a while.” “So how are things in Section One Dougal?” “Good ... Thank you.” “Any development on Sun Yee Lok?” “As a matter of fact ... there is. We’re getting closer.” Operations replied giving his superior no more information that the bare minimum. There was no way in hell that he or Madeline wanted any interference from their governing body at Oversight with this mission. Column, as its leader, had always been a thorn in their side and they tolerated him at best. “Excellent. I see One is maintaining its success rate. The previous missions have severely handicapped the Rising Dragons interests.” “Thank you brother. I appreciate you saying that. We’re doing what we can.” “Oversight would expect nothing less. Am I right?” “But of course.” “Keep me informed. You have fifteen days. Goodbye Dougal.” “Colum.” Dougal’s reply was succinct as usual whenever he spoke with his brother and replacing the receiver in its cradle, he turned to look at Madeline who asked, “He was pleased?” “Oh, yes. He wants a complete report in fifteen days. I want him to think he’s getting one ... understood?” “Perfectly.” “Fergus says that Claire has provided early Intel that has given us an exceptional projection and he has been working on it. We should know something soon.” “So, we’re making excellent progress then.” “Yes, I’ve seen the numbers.” ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
While they were discussing Colum Mackenzie’s call, suddenly there was a beep and an operative’s voice echoed in the Perch. “Sir, James Fraser has returned.” “Send him in.” Glancing towards Madeline with a look that spoke volumes Operations stated, “Fergus or Murtagh must have sent word to him. He’s obviously escalated the Mission to have returned so quickly.” “Yes ... but nothing should surprise us where Jamie is concerned,” she replied. “You’re right as usual Madeline.” The two leaders of Section One turned when their Level 5 Operative entered the Perch and stood at ease. Jamie was an excellent operative … their best really … and if he could contain a situation quicker than expected then he would do so. However, they suspected that the expediency of this mission was accelerated because he would want to know how Claire was faring on her new assignment. Jamie would never admit that this was the case but they knew there was a close bond between the two operatives that could not be shaken no matter how hard they had tried. As of yet, they could not ascertain if it was a romantic bond or just one of mentor and material despite Madeline suspecting that it was more than platonic. They both stated as James Fraser stood waiting for Operations to speak. “Welcome back James.” “Thank you.” “The mission was successful.” “Verra.” “Excellent. Your team managed 100% containment quicker than we thought.” “Yes.” His superior then cut to the chase and told Jamie of the status of the triad mission. “You’ll be pleased to know that Fergus has new Intel on the Rising Dragons. So unfortunately, you won’t be having any downtime.” “You will be on Close Quarters Standby as there will be a new mission pending to Hong Kong tomorrow,” Madeline added watching Jamie intently to see his reaction to this information. However, there was not even the blinking of an eye as he stood there listening to what his leaders had to say. “Fine.” Operations continued. “There’s a briefing later this afternoon. Your Senegal debrief can wait.” “It’s finished.” Jamie stated matter-of-factually with his usual succinct statement. “Very well then .... have it on my desk ASAP.” “Yes sir.” “That will be all. You can go, Fraser.” Both leaders stood as one and watched the retreating back of their Level 5 operative ... then glanced at one another without needing to say a word. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ Thankfully, he had written his debrief on the Senegal mission on the Section plane on his return, and having given his report to Operations as requested, Jamie made his way to the Ready Room to grab some much needed shut eye before being summoned to the briefing table later that afternoon. Although his body ached from the bruising he had incurred on this past mission, he hadn’t sustained any major injuries. It was nothing that some much-needed rest wouldn’t fix and it was all he required to replenish and revitalise his spirit. His team members were not so lucky though, and were in Medical being checked out.
Knowing that his Claire was safe and all was well was the best news he could have received, but he needed to hear her voice to know for sure. His first priority, therefore, before his weariness took its toll was to contact his love as to his return to Section One.
“Sass-en-ach…”
Her name rolled off his tongue in a loving caress.
Jamie had not had any communication with Claire at all since his meeting with Superintendent Zheng and her beginning her undercover operation at the OCTB. He knew that she would be wondering why he had not had any contact with her and no doubt by now Claire was getting a little testy due to the lack of interaction. However, the Senegal mission had taken him away from Section One as well as taking all his efforts to contain the matter so that he could return as soon as possible. The mission had also been fraught with danger and he needed to have his full concentration on what was at stake and knew that Claire would worry if she knew that the situation was hostile.
No doubt his Sassenach had her ear to the ground in the early stages of her transfer and was keeping a watchful eye on the comings and goings at the Bureau. Jamie knew that she was more than capable and was an exceptional operative who could take care of herself, but that didn’t mean that he never worried about her, because he did. His Claire was always on his mind and her voice haunted his thoughts at night when he closed his eyes. They were partners who were also lovers and her welfare would always be of the utmost priority to him. He patiently waited for a reply from the other end and closed his eyes in relief when he heard Claire reply. The sound of her dulcet tone in his ear was like a soothing balm to his weary body.
“Ja-mie …”
He could hear the relief and longing in Claire’s voice as she uttered his name so achingly while her voice caressed each syllable of Jamie as if she was placing kisses to his lips. God how he had missed her. He’d missed her terribly, missed the sound of her voice, missed seeing her by his side and he’d missed the kisses they shared. He was trembling with it, with the need to see her, touch her, have her tight against him. Nothing else mattered. There’d be words, there needed to be words, but those could wait. Everything could wait. The thought of having her seem near is what he had wanted most of all. Just the sound of her voice was enough to feel her presence and Jamie hung on to the sound of his name on her lips.
It had been a couple of weeks and he longed to see her and all he really wanted to do was hold his Sassenach in his arms. However, knowing that he might see her soon made the separation a little more bearable. Madeline had said that another mission to Hong Kong was being planned and no doubt he would be on a surveillance team and that was why he was on Close Quarters Standby. The mission could be set in motion at any moment and he needed to be prepared but hopefully he could catch some shuteye before leaving.
The intel that Fergus had been correlating meant that the new mission would be in play shortly after the briefing this afternoon and that another triad member would soon be a guest at Section One. It could very well be the lead they were after to finally get closer to finding Sun Yee Lok. These peripheral members of the Rising Dragons had all given Section vital information but as yet the Dragon Head had remained elusive. Perhaps this time he would slip up and be more visible.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
“Fraser! ... Briefing in 10 minutes!”
The sound of Operations’ directive woke him from his sleep. How long he’d slept for he didn’t know? It mustn’t have been that long but it was enough to give him the energy he needed. Jamie got up and made his way to the Briefing Room. Operations was standing in front of the briefing table while Fergus, Murtagh, Abernathy, Wakefield and Madeline were seated quietly waiting. Jamie was the last to arrive. He took his seat without so much as a look at those gathered, and sitting stony faced with his blank patented stare, he waited for Operations to begin the debrief.
As if to stress the importance of this mission, Dougal Mackenzie leaned his hands on the briefing table, glanced briefly at all those who were gathered then he began to speak without any preamble.
“Claire has provided us with the names of people she suspects are the mole and members of the Rising Dragons triad. Detective Raymond Koo ... Undercover Agent Eric Yong ... and Inspector Jiang Ng.” Madeline leaned back in her chair and stated, “We have to assume that the mole could be any one of these three OCTB operatives and he is working for the Rising Dragons.”
Looking directly at Jamie she added, “We need to find out which one.” “Did Claire elaborate on why she suspected these men?” Jamie asked trying to decipher in his own mind who may be the most logical one to be the mole at the OCTB.
“Raymond Koo asked questions as to Madame Cheung’s disappearance. Was he trying to ask if they knew who was involved in her mysterious disappearance or merely asking an innocent question? Claire wasn’t sure but the Inspector was of the view that another triad group was responsible,” Fergus declared before summarizing further. “Eric Yong was taken off a surveillance case on Jonathon Randall. Perhaps he too was getting too close to exposing him as a triad member and the Chief Inspector clipped his wings.”
Jamie said nothing just nodded his assent leaving him with the most obvious choice which ultimately would have been Claire’s as well. These two men were not the spy. Glancing around at those gathered Fergus Claudel added more clarification. “I cross-correlated data found on each of these men and discovered that each one has had contact with Jonathon Randall who is linked to the Rising Dragons.” “So, guilty by association?” “Yes Jamie, but we feel that the others are mere passing associations of no consequence and more than likely just doing their job.” Madeline interjected. “However, our main focus is on Inspector Ng and Jonathon Randall himself.”
Continuing Operations then relayed his synopsis. “Claire’s Intel would suggest our mole had help from the highest level or is privy to classified information. Therefore, Inspector Jiang Ng ... the head of the Organised Crime and Triad Bureau is our main target.”
Pulling up a Blue Screen of a Chinese man who it was difficult to gauge his correct age but probably was round about 35 to 40 years old, he indicated to his Techie to relay what he had discovered. “Fergus?”
“Inspector Jiang Ng is a hard nosed elusive leader who projects an image of ruthlessness. He has risen within the ranks quickly and has been well decorated for services in fighting crime in Hong Kong. He’s suave, brash and confident ... has plenty of money to throw around and enjoys nightclubbing and gambolling.”
“On his salary this would suggest he is getting a kickback from someone.” Madeline stated before Operations spoke again.
“Our Intel also suggests that he always seems to be one step ahead of the other police departments which impresses his superiors but his methods in apprehending suspects borders on viciousness.” Once more Fergus elucidated the intel he had managed to find out. “The other reason is his clever manoeuvring of department personnel and his tactics in predicting triad behaviour with the help of his highly placed police informers. He is excellent in playing one police department against the other which interfered with each others’ investigations to the point that they blocked each other out, bringing investigations to a standstill ... except for those he had instigated.” “This is highly suspicious.” Madeline concluded which left those at the briefing agreeing with her. “Exactly.” “For that he was not well liked, but this doesn’t seem to bother him. Inspector Jiang Ng it would seem is far too smooth, too in the know, too enlightened and for that reason, Claire has him earmarked as someone to watch closely.” Operations briefly straightened as he studied everyone's perception of Fergus's Intel before continuing. “The second important man is Jonathon Randall. He’s of British and Chinese ancestry and an entrepreneurial multi millionaire who is the owner of The Triangle nightclub.”
Jamie listened intently as his leader continued but what he heard next gave him cause to be a little concerned.
“Claire has told us that she will be in attendance at the nightclub Saturday night, and will debrief in the morning,” Operations stated dropping the Blue Screen’s remote back onto the table as he concluded the briefing. “This means that she will be in the key position to survey the premises and to make contact with this Jonathon Randall.” He then had the final word, “We're converging on the mole. But we have a couple of options. ... I'd like your input Jamie.”
Nodding he replied, “Of course. I’ll work up a profile.”

spoilers for longest day in chang’an ep 23 and 24
I’m halfway through the show and I think that this was a big turning point. Li Bi is no longer in his lofty tower with his crew of intellectuals and now must rely on himself. Same with every other character because now 朝廷 is far too messy and no one can wholly rely on any authority figure.
I knew that Cui Qi was going to die halfway through the show because I spoiled myself like a dumbass. So it wasn’t surprising that it happened. However, I did think that the sequence of scenes could have been a little better executed.
Cui Qi had been wavering between career ambitions and loyalty to the Jingansi for a few episodes, but before episode 23, he’d basically accepted the higher ranking general spot with the 右相. Only in episode 22/23 did he return to Jingansi, but it didn’t really feel like he was returning because he needed to do right by his brother. It just felt like he was returning because he thought it was the right thing to do, and he was bound by morality rather than by love.
The fight scene itself was okay. It wasn’t as refined as some of Zhang Xiaojing’s, but Cui Qi is a more gritty dude, considering his weapon of choice was twin maces. By the way, I was really banking on him whipping out his signature weapon at the very end, because at the very least, he needed to be true to himself.
I’m not totally certain on why Long Bo decided to grant that bit of leniency based on Cui Qi having served in the same squad as him. Anyway, at his death, first Cui Qi had a bite of his bread, which was a tribute to his brother (if I remember correctly), and then on the tag, he wrote Chang’An, which I guess was his other ambition in life, to be there for the people of the city.
During the scene in which Long Bo attacked Jingansi, I thought that Jackson Yee’s performance wasn’t as good as it should have been for such a turning point for Li Bi. When his team was being attacked, Li Bi yelled for the guards, for anybody to help, but they were alone. Li Bi’s dialogue showed his helplessness and his shock, but the delivery just wasn’t there. It really didn’t feel like those words came from the heart like they were supposed to. The words that were said by Li Bi were not the rational, precise words that we would usually hear from Li Bi. They were desperate words by a boy who was mildly panicking.
Just a side note, Li Bi had called all the scholars back to Jingansi and they were hanging out having goodies before they started working. When they saw Li Bi had arrived, they all scurried over to him and offered him treats. I thought that little part was cute; despite Li Bi technically being their supervisor, I think the scholars, especially the older ones, were perhaps fond of him like a son that they were proud of for being so successful. And when Long Bo had arrived, they were all desperately trying to get Li Bi to hide. Part of that was definitely loyalty, but I think some of that was due to love too.
After the fire, Li Bi went on his own to follow Long Bo, so he’s really on his own now. Li Bi was caught following and taken back to the hideout. I think Long Bo and Wen Ran might try to play mind games with Li Bi, whereas Yu Chang will probably try to beat him up because she’s not so subtle. Somewhere along the way, He Fu may show up. I think if Li Bi talks to any of the four of those characters, we will be able to find out more about their back story. The info they tell Li Bi may not necessarily be that helpful to him, but it would mean something to the audience since we’ve seen more of those characters than Li Bi has.
Now that it’s been established that Tan Qi and Zhang Xiaojing are an item, I’m worried that Tan Qi might be relegated to the “love interest” role. Before, Tan Qi was an extension of Jingansi and despite being a slave, had her own agency and even some authority when acting on Li Bi’s orders. She’s been assigned by Li Bi to help Zhang Xiaojing, but I was pretty sure Zhang Xiaojing could have managed on his own. I think perhaps Li Bi just wanted to have eyes on Zhang Xiaojing, especially because it might’ve been hard for the people in the signalling towers to keep track of him during the festival. Along with the Christian deacon, their first task involved confronting that guy who used to be Zhang Xiaojing’s friend in the army. However, as we could see in that scene though, the deacon and Tan Qi were sort of in the way of Zhang Xiaojing getting real information out. I hope we don’t get more of those scenes. I want to see Tan Qi doing real substantive work, like we know she can.
While I enjoy the Christian deacon as a sort of comedic relief character, as well as a character who had some parkour scenes, I hope he’s more than just a tag along character to Zhang Xiaojing, and that he is able to contribute more to the investigative side of the story.
It seems like the Crown Prince asked 右相 Lin Jiulang to investigate the fire at Jingansi on his behalf. It seemed like Lin Jiulang just wanted to get the matter off of his hands and called on Ji Wen to find the culprit as soon as possible. Ji Wen used the easiest target and pinned Zhang Xiaojing as the culprit of the fire and also of everything bad that had happened that day, including the kidnapping of Wang Yunxiu.
Now I think Jingansi will become the battlefield of the Crown Prince and Lin Jiulang in the sense that they will use Jingansi as a pawn against each other. In a weird sequence of events, Yao Runeng has sort of become the representative of the scholars of the Jingansi. He was with them from the beginning of the investigation (sort of) so I guess they expected him to stand up for them. He didn’t, and he told the scholars that they have to heed Lin Jiulang’s words, but I think he also did it for self preservation, and the preservation of the scholars’ lives. Yuan Zai had warned Yao Runeng when he was going to confront Ji Wen, but I think Yao Runeng also did want to protect the scholars too. The past few episodes were sort of a coming out for Yao Runeng; he’s stopped being so scared all the time, just wanting to survive and live the rest of his life doing nothing. Instead, I think he realizes that he has a calling here. First it was joining the battle at Jingansi, although he did it a bit late. But I think he will do a bit of his own political maneuvering to get more information, rescue Li Bi, and/or help out Zhang Xiaojing where needed.
It looks like Yuan Zai has become Lin Jiulang and Ji Wen’s default guy to carry out their bidding. However, I refuse to accept that Yuan Zai does not have his own agenda. He has definitely kept Wang Yunxiu with him for political protection. Nobody wanted to let anything happen to her because that would enrage her father, so as a result Yuan Zai himself could be protected too. I also worry that Wang Yunxiu has become a character with no agency. Her only role so far was to get kidnapped, and she’s technically been kidnapped by Yuan Zai too. Like I know Yuan Zai has been treating her well, but as I mentioned about, it really seems like he kept her for political reasons rather than because he actually likes her company.
General Guo’s been getting more scenes in the past few episodes, with all the messages he’s been delivering to Lin Jiulang, as well as the behind-the-scenes stuff he’s been helping Li Bi with. I wonder if he’s going to continue helping Li Bi.
There’s still a question mark for Wen Ran in terms of how she fits into all of this. We’re probably going to learn more about Zhang Xiaojing’s history with his squadmates, and I think Wen Ran is related to that somehow, considering how her dad died a very strange death in Chang’an.
We also need to find out how Wen Ran and Long Bo are related, to the point that Long Bo considers her his family, and that he’d planned the attack for her.
I think we will also learn more about He Fu’s back story, and maybe more about what exactly Lin Jiulang did to destroy his family.
I think Lin Jiulang, who was portrayed as the big bad in the beginning and still sort of is, will kind of move to the sidelines. I don’t really think he’s the big bad here. I think he’s just acting out of self interest, rather than anything more sinister than that.
We still haven’t even seen the emperor. From what I’ve seen and heard, it seems like his presence was a little underwhelming, which I get, because we’ve already bonded with all of the other characters already.
I really want to see more of the Crown Prince. I’m pretty sure he has a close relationship with Li Bi, considering Yao Runeng said that he used to supervise them learning and training together when they were younger. However, this Crown Prince isnt particularly evil or conniving and just seems like a normal dude who’s trying his best. So I want to see how he does his part to help Chang’an, or if he just succumbs to going with the flow of 朝廷.
Yeah, so this half way point was a big change in atmosphere to the story. For one thing, now it’s night time so all the buildings and architecture just feel different. But as I mentioned, Li Bi is on his own so he doesn’t have Xu Bin or his other scholars to give him more information. Now he really has to rely on not only his own smarts, but his own position and reputation (or what remains of it) to not only get out of Long Bo’s grasp, but probably try to get help from 朝廷.
I’m mentally preparing myself because as some people said, the episodes later on get really draggy. But I’m still excited to see how everything unfolds. I’m also excited to see my favourite characters overcome their challenges.
I’m really falling in love with Chang’an the city, which is first and foremost the main character of the story, let’s be real here. All the characters speak about Chang’an like it’s a spirit or treasure to be protected, and they’re right. What they have in Chang’an is so special. Ahhh I’m trying to be cautiously optimistic but I really am excited.

I am freaking out over all the Marvel news out of Comic Con. You?
Honestly, when I first got this ask, I was going to answer “no” because I legitimately hadn’t heard anything from Marvel at all. All I knew was that we were in for a bunch of Disney+ shows like Loki, which I wasn’t interested in, and Falcon and Winter Soldier, which I am interested in but concerned about.
But then I did a quick Google, and saw that there’s plenty of other stuff to be excited about, so here’s a listicle-style breakdown of what I am and am not excited for, as was released in the press junkets regarding the SDCC Marvel Hall H panel.
1. Black Widow: Nope, not interested. Way, way back in 2012, I might have cared, given that Natasha was LITERALLY THE ONLY WOMAN in the MCU with any agency or hero role, but now that we have significantly more women, significantly more interesting women, and women of color (who aren’t played by white women stealing roles from actual WOC lmao), I think we don’t really... need a Black Widow movie. I mean, cool that David Harbour will be in it, but, uh... yeah, count me out of that one.
2. Falcon and Winter Soldier: Yeah, I’m excited for this one! Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan have a lot of fun chemistry, and I hope the series plays up the fun buddy-cop aspect of their relationship rather than “doom and gloom, Steve is gone, boohoo” stuff. They deserve to be heroes in their own rights and to not live in Steve’s shadow. Also, I’m not hugely into Bucky Barnes (I kinda find him boring, sorry) so I hope the series will, at least a little, start to endear me more to him. But I am very excited to see Sam getting more screentime!
3. Eternals: Eh, can’t really say. I don’t know enough about the original Eternals, nor do I have any information about who the new Eternals will be to weigh in. Ask me again when we’re closer to the release date.
4. Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings: Honestly, some warning flags are popping up for me on this one. Much as I want more POC led MCU films (and just, fucking, like, any films in general), Marvel comics has a pernicious history surrounding Asian fetishism and mysticism. I’ve talked about it before with my hatred for Iron Fist, and the problems Marvel had during the big “Asian Craze” of the 60s and 70s, but I really do worry about re-adapting works based in and rooted in the comics made during those times. I don’t know enough about Shang-Chi’s origins to weigh in just yet, but I am on high-alert about how this could go wrong. Hopefully, though, with actual Asian and POC actors involved in the project, it will be done tastefully and respectfully. Hopefully.
5. WandaVision: Nah. I never liked either character to begin with so I’m not really gonna waste my brainspace on some TV show about a random white girl and her toaster boyfriend. I know that sounds mean but I have a lot of pent up anger about how the MCU depicted the Maximoffs, given that the Maximoffs were originally Jewish and survivors of the Hol*caust, but then somehow the MCU decided to make them not only white, but white people working with a literal N*zi organization. So I have beef with that, and I just... don’t care about Wanda or Vision. They haven’t been with us long enough for any of us to really, you know, see them have arcs or be meaningful people. They’re just kinda there. So no thanks. Maybe if the show turns out to be great, I’ll watch, but as it stands, I’m uninterested.
5. Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness: Eh. I never saw the original Doctor Strange because of the whitewashing issues and Benedict Cumberbatch’s, shall we say, history of anti-autism comments and classist perceptions about poor and undereducated people, so I just noped out of that. But I also didn’t like Stephen Strange from what I saw in the other MCU films I have seen him in, so I don’t feel like I’m missing much. If this movie turns out to be cool (apparently, it’s going to be the MCU’s first “scary” film, whatever that means?), I might see it, but for now it’s largely off my radar.
6. Loki: Nnnnnnnnnot especially excited. As I’ve said before, I like Ragnarok Loki, and that’s about it. 2012 Loki was, no joke, literally set up as a N*zi, and y’all know how I feel about N*zis. I’m not being hyperbolic. He is literally supposed to be equitable to a N*zi. So I’m disappointed that we’ve regressed all of his character development back in time to his worst stage, and we’re going to be seeing that play out in his show. Hopefully, the directors allow Tom Hiddleston to have more fun with Loki, because holy shit does Tom have great comedic timing, and I hope we get some redemption for Loki, because as it stands, I feel sad and hurt that they just threw away everything Loki grew into being. And if you’re one of those salty “Loki is a Classy, Intelligent, Sexy Villain, And Ragnarok Made Him DUMB, Give Us Back Our King” fans, please leave me alone. He was gross and greasy and weird and Ragnarok made him funny and likable, in me humble onion. Also, Loki is canonically not straight, not cisgender, and has been pregnant with horse babies, so, uh, let’s all just chill out and have some fun.
7. What If...?: The What If...? comics can be really confusing and fun, alternatingly. So it’ll be interesting to see how this show manifests itself to match the wild, changing, freewheeling chaos of the What If...? storylines. Let’s see what happens!
8. Hawkeye: FUCK I AM SO MAD THAT THIS ISN’T AN ANIMATED SERIES BASED ON THE HAWKEYE COMICS THAT CAME OUT RECENTLY. FUCK. I would have loved that! But instead we’re getting Ronin Hawkeye (which sounds so dumb and also question-mark-y racist?). At least we’ll be getting Kate Bishop, I guess. C’est la vie. Not a fan of the Jeremy Renner Hawkeye, tbh, so I don’t know how this show will keep my interest, but fingers crossed.
9. Thor: Love and Thunder: BUCKLE UP BOYS I FINALLY HAVE A MOVIE TO CARE ABOUT YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHAW AMEN PRAISE GOD WE HAVE A GOOD MOVIE COMING YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA FEMALE THOR AAAAAAAAAAAAA GAY RIGHTS YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
FUCK! I AM SO HAPPY OH MY G O D!
10. Blade: YEE FUCKING HAW! Mahershala Ali has been in the MCU three times now (1st as Cottonmouth in Luke Cage, 2nd as Uncle Aaron in ITSV, and now as Blade!) and I’m both pleasantly surprised and a little confused, since the MCU very rarely reuses actors. Oh, well! I’m so happy to see him back and I hope Blade does him justice. I worry that the original Blade (comics and movie alike) were a little, uh, Blaxploitation-y, so I hope this update will be more thoughtful and more progressive in its depictions. But at the end of the day, this is one I’ll be watching.
11. Fantastic Four: I’m worried but hopeful. The last swings at making a Fantastic Four film have been, um, mixed to say the least. Fingers crossed for a diverse set of characters this time! Although I do think that David Harbour being in the Black Widow movie does rule him out of being The Thing, as was previously speculated. Well, anyway, here’s hoping it’s good.
12. Black Panther 2: SHIT BOI DO I DIE I AM READY YES YES YES YESSSSS
But please for the love of GOD bring back Ryan Coogler to direct. I don’t trust this story in the hands of, well, non-black people, especially because the story of Black Panther is so intrinsically tied to the black experience. That being said, I’m ready and excited for a return to Wakanda and to see what is next in T’Challa’s saga. Also, please, more Shuri, more Nakia, more Okoye. Honestly, Black Panther brought us some of the best women in the MCU so just... bring back all the ladies. Ramonda too!
13. Guardians of the Galaxy 3: I’m a little nervous about this one re: the issues surrounding the firing of James Gunn (which is, like, such a can of worms to get into), but fingers crossed. The GOTG films are really fun and such a great break from the rest of the dull, painfully self-absorbed MCU, so I hope that the light-hearted tone and center on found family comes back. I also hear that this one will be more female-centric (focusing on Gamora, I believe?) so that’s good to hear!
14. Captain Marvel 2: I didn’t see the first one, but, hey, my lesbian friends sure are happy to have Carol back so you’ve got my approval on that one, Marvel.
15. Mutants: DOES THIS MEAN...MCU X-MEN...I’M SCARED...SOMEONE HOLD ME
16. This one technically isn’t MCU but it’s what I’m most excited for...
THE SPIDERMAN 2099 COMICS ARE COMING BACK!
I’M SO HAPPY I GET TO SEE MY BOY MIGGY AGAIN I AM SO SO SO SO HAPPY OH MY GOD I WAS SO SCARED THEY’D PERMANENTLY CANCELLED MIGGY BUT HE’S HOME I GET TO SEE HIM AGAIN I COULD JUST C R Y AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
anyway, that’s just what I’m excited for. Y’all tell me if I missed anything or if there’s other updates or news! Or tell me what you’re excited for-- I’d love to hear!
#long post#messages#anonymous#k reviews#sorta?? this is all very preemptive so if shit turns out to be good i'll change my mind

Thoughts about Spn 13x06
SPOILERS! SPOILERS! SPOILERS!
Yee-haw! So, did we get the promised Brokebacknatural? Cowboys? Check. Super gay? Double check.
Once again we got an episode, and I know I keep repeating myself here, that left no room for subtext. Everything was spelled out in neon letters. Which is weird, from a meta perspective. We are so used to look out for the subtext, and codes and hidden messages, and again it feels like the subtext just became plain text. And again, I don’t feel like this makes the episode better or worse, just different, and of course it leads to the overall question: WHY? And to me it feels like, or at least makes sense, like we are heading to the finish line here. I’m not saying the current season is the last, but maybe the next one. From a writer’s point it would make sense then to address themes that have been part of the subtext for a long time, and the only way to resolve them is to put them in the actual text of the show. (And yes, before you ask: Destiel. All the Destiel.)
Overall I liked the episode a lot. The actual case was kinda… there, they could have made more with it, I dunno. But I loved the Western theme and of course it was a big character episode. I think this week the focus was on Jack, and his relationship with Cas. We had a lot of great Dean moments as well, which brought the episode a light and fun atmosphere, and worked especially in contrast to last weeks episode, to make a big statement what or rather who made Dean so happy. The characters and their relationships were the selling point of the episode.
Let’s have a closer look.
Jack vs Evil Dead
There was a lot of Jack in the episode, and in the beginning he seemed to be in a relative happy place. He is obviously still trying to find out who he is, but it seems like hunting gave him some purpose, at least for a moment. We learned in 13x04 that he still thinks in terms of “good” and “bad” and that, through the influence of Sam and Dean, hunters are to him the good guys. They kill monsters and help the innocent.
Jack trying to be a hunter was of course meant to remind us of all the times Cas tried to act like a hunter. They both even use the same approach by watching what Sam and Dean do and try to copy it. Though I have to admit, with all my love for Cas, I think Jack has got the hang of it a bit faster. He found them a case, he found footage of zombie!Dave and identified him as Athena’s boyfriend. Top of his class, indeed.
I loved the relationship/interactions between Cas and Jack. I always like it when they add new characters to the team, to see new dynamics, not just Cas and Jack, but of course also the birth of team free will 2.0. Cas and Jack do balance out Sam and Dean in a way; they are both not human and outsiders of their own. And similar to last season where Cas could teach Mary about her sons now we have him teaching Jack how to handle a Winchester properly.
I’m not sure the show is ever going to address the “Did Jack brainwash Kelly and Cas?”-issue more than they did now. Jack confirms that he trusted Cas because his mother trusted him, that Cas made him feel safe and the fact that Cas is surprised Jack remembered that implies they talked about the events in 12x19. I have a feeling Dean won’t bring up the issue again – whatever Jack did with bringing back Cas he is forgiven. I’m not sure of either Cas or Jack were aware of the brainwashing. Every episode so far has shown us that until lately Jack had no control over his powers. Choosing Cas as his protector probably did happen unconscious, based on the feelings of his mother, who had become one with him at some point (probably when he resurrected her).
Cas supports Jack and believes in him, and I think he fulfils a role here neither Sam and Dean could. He is the one Jack chose as his father, as his mentor, he is the one who was supposed to be there for him. I don’t believe Jack still controls Cas in some ways, but rather that the affection is genuine. Cas repeats what Kelly told her son – that he is meant to do great things and that he has the power to make the world a better place. This very thing though puts a lot of responsibility on Jack. It is clear that he wants to do good, that he wants to prove to others and himself that he is not a monster, but it backfires horrible. It is clear that killing the security guard was a horrible accident, and Cas, Sam and Dean reassure him that in their line of work things like that keep on happening, but that it doesn’t mean he is bad, or that he should stop trying to do better. Each of them has done horrible things in the past, because the world is more complex than “good” and “bad”. It is part of being human, and we talk so much about Jack’s powers that we forget at times that he is half human too.
Especially in that aspect I think Jack mirrors Dean a lot. There is an early parallel when Jack tells Cas how much he missed him, how he begged for his return, or basically when he tells Cas everything Dean couldn’t. The Jack we see at the end of the episode, the one who decides to leave because he is afraid he is going to hurt his found family, is the one who reminded a lot of Dean in 9x10, who decided to leave because he thought of himself as “poison”. Dean is still the one who is the most honest with Jack – when he asks if the security guard had a family only Dean gives him a direct answer. Dean is the one who never tried to sugarcoat what he thought of Jack, but he is also the one who admits here that he was wrong about Jack. We saw a first small step in that direction at the end of 13x04, after Jack saved Sam, but it is clear that the turning point is Jack bringing Cas back.
Also, Jack refers to Cas, Sam and Dean as “all he has”. This and that he asked about the family of the man he killed shows how important family and family ties are to him, and that he thinks in categories of family the way we know Dean does as well. It wouldn’t surprise me if we end the season with Jack addressing the Winchesters (including Cas of course) as his family.
Something else I found interesting are Jack’s powers. By now he can control them in some ways. It is clear it is a learning process. What I am curious about though is what specifically are Jack’s powers. We know that one day he will be more powerful than his father. We know he has some angelic powers – he can teleport, bullets and knifes don’t hurt him etc. Unlike angels though you can’t banish him. He sleeps, even if he doesn’t sleep as much as humans. He eats and he seems to enjoy food. It is a mix between angelic powers and human needs. Then again he asked Cas to heal the security guard, even though we know that Jack can technically heal people, after all he saved his mother in 12x19, so we might see him exploring more powers in the future.
The most interesting part though is his power to open portals to other worlds, and the fact that he had the power to reach Cas in the Empty, a place where even God had no power. This made me wonder if the Empty perhaps exists outside of reality? And God’s powers only have access in places in our reality – earth, heaven, hell, purgatory, the veil. Could it be that every universe/reality has their own God? If there are different versions of the archangels, why not God? We know that Lucifer from our universe still has his powers in the AU world. But what if there is only one Empty, existing outside of all those realities? And only Jack, Death and the reapers have access to it? Does that make Jack more powerful than God?
Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly Fond of Each Other
(What did you think all them saddles and boots was about?)
So, after Dean said “I do” under a giant neon cross, I think it is fair to say that travelling to Doge City and dressing up as cowboys was Dean and Cas’s honeymoon?
I’m still in awe and wonder how obvious all the Destiel stuff was. Not just in this episode, during the whole season so far. It is the main topic with all my meta peeps here, because we still can’t believe that after years of digging deep through the subtext the show is now so blatant about Destiel. After 13x05 everyone and their mother said that Cas was presented as the win Dean so desperately needed, and now he textually confirms it, calling Cas even a “pretty big win”. Dean’s whole attitude and behaviour has changed, in the way that 13x05 and 13x06 almost work as a pair to show is exactly what the main difference is between the two episodes and Dean’s emotional state. I mean their mom is still trapped and Jack is still a potential danger, and this episode marks the first time he killed someone, even if it was only an accident. We expected to hear the “I told you”-speech from Dean, instead he is reaching out to Jack and takes care of his mess. Why? Because of Cas. Because Jack brought back Cas, and for the first time Dean can acknowledge the effort Jack applied.
It was in character that we didn’t get a great speech of Dean talking about his feelings (like I said, Jack already expressed what Dean felt). We are not at the point of the story yet where Dean is ready to use his words, though sooner or later he has to. Instead we got the car scene and the usual bickering between Cas and Dean, and it is only then that Dean admits how happy he is that Cas is back. It was very lighthearted and sweet and it again confirmed that Dean and Cas have a relationship off-screen (the movie Dean made Cas watch, the fact that Cas knows that Dean is an angry sleeper etc). Also, my new headcanon is that Metatron didn’t like Western movies, so they weren’t part of all the popculture knowledge he gave Cas. Dean might missed his chance to introduce Cas to Star Wars, but he will do his best to show Cas his favourite Western movies. All of them.
Wild Wild Dead
The case of the week was rather simple. There was a recurring theme of “things that look like other things”. In 13x02 we had with Asmodeus a shapeshifting demon, in 13x03 we had a wraith who looks human and 13x04 featured two actual shapeshifters and an ancient cosmic entity that took the form of our favourite angel. And we started this episode with Dean asking Cas if it is really him. It doesn’t take a big step to figure out that identity will be a big theme this season. Jack of course still struggles with his own, trying to find out who he is. And then of course we have the AU world or maybe even worlds, with a potential infinite amount of doppelgängers of characters we know.
We also have two characters coming back from the dead – Cas literary, and the ghoul who impersonates someone who died a long time ago. Both lose the one they wanted to protect – Cas loses Jack, Dave loses Athena. I’m not sure if this parallel was on purpose because Dave and Athena’s relationship wasn’t anything like the one between Jack and Cas. The first one was romantic and quite unhealthy, the second a parent-child-relationship, based on support. I also wonder if Athena was aware that her boyfriend was a ghoul? She seemed to know about the grave robberies and I thought for a moment she provided him with food, but she was surprised to find out he wasn’t exactly human, so.
Another character that was somehow paralleled/ associated with Dean was the Sergeant. The officer who was killed was his nephew; not his actual so, but still someone very close to him. Getting revenge for him was family business, to make it even more obvious. And he stated twice that he would kill the one responsible for his nephew’s death. And that is somehow problematic. I think it was perhaps part of the Western theme to show people who take the law in their own hands, with blazing guns and only one of them surviving. Still he was an officer of the law, and unlike Dean and the others he didn’t know at first that a monster was responsible for his nephew’s death. The show morally justified that hunters can kill monsters, if they have killed, because there is no monster prison. But there is no justification for humans to kill other humans, especially not officers of the law who should know better. The first monstrous humans though on the show have all been killed by officers of the law though (Pa Bender by Deputy Kathleen Hudak in 1x15 and Pete Sheridan by Detective Diana Ballard in 2x07). Sergeant Phillips is portrayed as a hero by the narrative, that he kills the monster in the end feels justified, but it shouldn’t.
Dean seemed also very calm when the ghoul aimed his gun at his head. Perhaps because he knew that Billie would bring him back, because he is important? Interesting though “stabbed by a ghoul in a graveyard” was one of Dean’s potential deaths (I wonder if we will also get to see almost burned by a red haired witch and almost died by a heart-attack). After the ghoul is dead Dean takes care of Jack’s mess and is back to his usual “we were never here and we lie about what we do”-attitude. In contrast to 13x01 where he openly told the Sheriff that he is a hunter, because he no longer cared about anything. Now that Cas is back he does.
Some other things:
- Did nobody in town recognize Dave Mather? Did they all think it was just a great coincidence the undertaker’s new boyfriend looked exactly like the old west dude?
- Speaking of, why is nobody ever suspicious about their aliases? Texas ranger Val Kilmer? Seriously?
- Nina Lopez-Corrado, the director of the episode, smuggled herself in the episode twice: with Athena’s last name (Lopez) and again with the giant “Lopez” on top of the mausoleum in the graveyard.
- Does Sam like Amanda Palmer? He seemed interested. Adding this to my (very short) list of music Sam likes.
- The episode had great soundtrack choices.
- I’m still worried about Jack though. I hope he packed some lunch.
Until next week <3

This self insert series was created/planned by the wonderful @shoutamajiki and is based off of the insane discord conversations and friendships we have made in the past few weeks. The story follows the female volleyball team from Okami International Academy, a school that has been ranked top three in the national team in Japan for the last five years. When the girls training camp gets cancelled, Okami’s coach makes a last minute call to attend the boys training camp where powerhouse teams from all over Japan come to practice under one roof.
The main plot/characters/masterlist for the series is found here .With permission from Nana, I have written a few snippets for the Okami self insert that are ‘bonus scenes’ that add more context/background for characters and loosely follows the main storyline.
Team Members: @kirislut, @goopyartiste, @katsushimaa, @nieve-blancas-deactivated202010, @hannahalanib1, @icejins, @art0saurus, @sugas-sweetheart, @estridries, @suggiebabe, @shoutamajiki, @deephasoceanmagic, @yee-harr, @spookykiri, @peach-pops
Ⅱ. Bonus Scene Two
[inspired by @kirislut ‘s “hit list” which shows how insanely thirsty she is for these 2D men and how we don’t slut shame on this team]
Meg’s sweet and infectious laughter could be heard all the way across the other side of the court which only piqued Hannah’s curiosity as she turned her head towards the sound.
“ Your captain sure is popular,” Noya smiled down at his girlfriend and handed her a water bottle before taking a seat beside her,” she’s really hitting it off with Konoha over there.”
Hannah took a sip of her water and nodded as she continued to watch the interaction between Meg and Fukurodani’s wing spiker,” Yeah, Meg has always been the type to hit it off with everyone, especially the guys. Usually, Emma and Nana would have to pry her away if it gets too distracting cause all the boys are wrapped around her finger.”
Noya nudged Hannah softly with his shoulder and wrapped his arm around her frame,” Not all the boys. You have my undivided attention babe.”
Hannah leaned her head on his shoulder as she smiled to herself. Before she could respond to his sweet comment, Amy let out an audible ‘bleh’ from behind the couple.
“ Get a room, my eyes physically ache watching you two in love. If I had an ice cream scooper my eyes would be out of their sockets by now.”
“ Then look away if it bothers you so much,” Hannah replied as she chucked her water bottle at Amy’s chest but Amy caught it easily,” and I don’t remember saying anything to you when you and Kageyama were ki-”
“ Finish that sentence,” Amy taunted back at Hannah,” go on. See what happens.”
The two girls sat still for a moment and as oblivious as Noya could be sometimes, even he could sense the palpable tension between the two girls. Hannah was the first to break eye contact and groaned, mumbling obscenities under her breath.
Amy smirked to herself but sat down beside Hannah anyway as they talked amongst themselves for a few minutes.
“ Hey look, Emma’s back,” Noya broke the flow of the conversation as the three of them watched her walk into the gym.
Emma’s eyes scanned the gym briefly as she looked for her captain and sure enough, there she was with Fukurodani’s number seven. Emma’s feet seemed to have a mind of their own as she briskly walked over to Meg, who had her hand placed on Konoha’s bicep.
“ Your arms are so huge, do you bench?” Meg giggled as Konoha nodded, his face seemed to grow even more flushed than before,” you okay Kono? I can stop touching you if you want.”
“ No! I mean, I don’t mind, I like it,” Konoha gushed.
Meg could feel her chest tighten in excitement at the sight of her making yet another boy flustered under her presence and she mentally took note of the interaction. If Meg was a witch, it would be obvious to everyone that she had all the boys wrapped around her spell but that wouldn’t be giving enough credit to Meg.
She was always just that charming and lured people in with her charisma and for the most part, Emma was always there to hype her friend up around guys. Just not today.
“ Sorry, I’m just going to borrow her for a second,” Emma interrupted as she gripped the back of Meg’s jersey and started to drag her outside of the gym into the courtyard. Konoha gave a small wave back to Meg and the sweet gesture alone made Meg’s knees weak.
Meg whined as she stumbled alongside Emma and rubbed the back of her collar once Emma loosened her grip,” You better have a good reason for wrinkling my damn shirt and cockblocking me Em!”
“ Where were you last night?”
“ Sleeping with you guys in the room-”
Emma scoffed as she grabbed a stray newspaper from the floor, rolled it up, and bonked Meg on the head,” Liar. You were with Kyoutani last night...in the storage room!”
Meg rubbed the top of her head as her face started to grow red,” N-No! Who told you that? Honestly Em, why would I lie to you?”
“ Oh sure, cause Hajime would totally lie about walking in on you two when he tried to find the bathroom last night! You guys traumatized the poor dude! And what made you think he wouldn’t tell me!” Emma retorted as Meg stopped rubbing her head to give her vice-captain a small smirk.
“ Hajime? So you two are on a first-name basis now? Interesting,” Meg hummed as Emma only thwacked her in the head harder,” ouch okay stop that. Why does it matter if I was with Kyoutani last night? Are you- Are you slut-shaming me?”
Emma rolled her eyes as Meg pouted back at her to make a lousy attempt at making her feel guilty,” Meg, even if you were a slut I wouldn’t slut-shame you-I would probably give you a card or something. Look, you know me, I have your back no matter what but you just need to tell me if you sneak off. I covered for your ass last night since Coach Yamazaki saw you weren’t sleeping next to me.”
“ So what did you tell her?”
Emma’s smirk grew as she shrugged nonchalantly,“ That you were shitting your insides out because of that meal the Karasuno boys cooked last night.”
“ Emma you did not!” Meg gasped as she covered her mouth with her hands,” that’s so embarrassing! Why would you say that, oh my god!”
Meg slapped Emma’s shoulder hard enough to let out a loud ‘smack’ sound but that only made Emma laugh even harder.
“ That’s called karma for not telling me where you were. I don’t care that you’re flirting with almost every guy from each team, in fact, I applaud you for it! You just need to tell me if you sneak off so I don’t have to worry about you.”
Meg opened her mouth to make a comment on Emma’s habitual habit of worrying for her but decided to wait for another time to tease her.
“ I don’t flirt with everyone-”
“ Lie number two of the day. I found your hitlist page on your notes, it’s an agonizing read,” Emma sighed as she pulled Meg’s phone from out of her pocket and handed it to Meg,” I knew you had a thing for that tall dude from Nekoma you liar. That’s your second lie of the day!”
Meg was at a lost for words as she held her phone against her chest protectively,” First of all, his name is Lev-”
“Don’t care-”
“And second of all, don’t look through my phone if you’re not prepared to see certain things...so what do you think of the list?” Meg asked, knowing full well Emma had thousands of snide remarks from the extremely detailed and psychotic list.
Emma peeked her head back into the gym for a moment as if she was making sure no one else was around and then turned back to her in a soft voice,” Your comments on the Miya twins are troubling but accurate. Seriously, those Inarizaki are no joke, and I’m all up for juicy details but I rather not talk about what you said about Date Tech’s captain.”
Meg laughed as she checked over her phone to see what she had previously written but before she could comment, Oikawa’s head poked out from the doorway and called out to the two girls.
“ You princesses ready? We’re just about to start our practice match now unless I’m ruining a beloved moment,” Oikawa teased as Emma walked over and slammed the newspaper roll over Oikawa’s head, almost four times harder than she did with Meg,” ouch you’re so violent. You and Iwa-chan really are meant for each other.”
“ Yeah, tell me about it.”
As Meg walked past Oikawa, the two locked eyes for a moment and both gave each other an affirming nod, something Emma wouldn’t have been able to pinpoint if she had not read Meg’s list.
“ Toru?” Meg prompted sweetly as she stopped in front of him with an innocent gaze.
“ Yes Meg?” Oikawa returned, and the way he said her name sent a shiver down Emma’s back.
Meg reached up to Oikawa’s shoulder at an agonizing pace and as cliche as it was, Oikawa could feel a shot of electricity ring through his body where she had made contact.
“ You’re in my way,” Meg pushed the captain aside and caught up to Emma in long strides as Oikawa watched her walk away with a small smirk.
Emma thought back to Meg’s hitlist, something she had read over a million times in the span of only a few minutes and she couldn’t seem to get a certain sentence out of her mind.
‘Oikawa- been there, done that.’
Once they were far enough away from Oikawa’s earshot, Emma nudged Meg with her hip,” So, you and Oikawa? Is there something going on between you two?”
Meg shook her head and looked up at Emma. She could feel the gym lights grow hotter above her but Meg swallowed down a laugh and shook her head again,” Nope, never has and never will.”
Meg walked back over to the bench as Emma rolled her eyes for the millionth time that day because she had just caught Meg in lie number three.

Wow I have forgotten what this episode even was about. *whispers* I actually never finished watching a playthrough so I guess I'll see some knew stuff. Heh. I'm scared. I managed to get changed, get my food, update my tumblr, and this thing is only 55% complete. HOW LONG IS THIS EPISODE?
