holy moly your art is amazing! any advice for a beginner artist on how you found your style? I’ve been taking inspiration from you and some other artists I like but I don’t want to copy yknow

haha, i totally get you, honestly, i still feel like i’m finding my style! i don’t think it’s a process that ever stops, i’m always looking at other artists for more inspiration.

i’m about to get a little long winded, so i’ll tell you in advance, my tl;dr is just to practice a lot until you find the style elements that are the easiest and most fun for you, but if you want my rambling details, they’re under the cut!

honestly, yeah, my best advice is literally just to keep drawing. draw a lot! study other artists, study still lives, figure models, animals, everything you can! the more you practice, the more you’ll find what’s most comfortable for you. what parts can you do quickly? what parts do you enjoy spending more time on? a lot of my style has come from looking at inspirations, yeah, but a lot of it has also come from playing with their styles and learning two things: which parts of them are the easiest for me, and which are the most fun!

i think another good exercise is just to sit down and draw something really really fast, and see what your hand does. or try to draw something as simply as you can, in the most basic shapes you can see. where are your instincts? start there, and adapt new elements as you go!

style isn’t just what you like to draw, although that matters too, it’s also how you like to draw, fast or slow or with what tools! what physical processes do you enjoy the most! i like to draw fast, on a tablet, and with a certain set of brushes. that informs a lot of why my art looks how it does.

i don’t know if this all makes sense. but basically, inspiration is great!!! get inspired by lots of different things, practice those styles, figure out which parts you enjoy the most and start frankensteining them. art should be fun! do whatever you find the most fun!

Her being terrified and thinking she'll become a demon and him rushing to hold her close to him and telling her he loves her again and again, right after seeing her at her most vulnerable and knowing her “shame” has to be one of the most beautiful and heartbreaking moments in the movie. I like how Orlok's violence is juxtaposed with Thomas's gentle and comforting love for her. Also, love that prior to this moment it is Ellen who holds onto Thomas to stop him from leaving the house, riles him up to get a reaction out of him ending up in them having rougher, more passionate sex which she wants Orlok to see because she is actively trying to fight off his hold on her. Basically just giving him a middle finger lmao. And the fact that this time, she actually succeeds, once again showing how Orlok uses her desire to exercise control over her and how Thomas not only satisfies that desire but also liberates her from the terrible psychosexual connection/subjugation, rendering Orlok's control ineffective. Thomas's love empowers her. God I'm never ever getting over this scene. Like never. Everything about it is so beautiful and heartbreaking and haunting to me.
