Dionysus' iceberg
This post is what remains of an initially very long rant idea. That means there will probably be a part 2 😏.
Here's the reason for my title :
In theory, you can stop there since my meme pretty much summarizes my complaints. But since I like ranting, I'll continue 😈
The tip of the iceberg
When you think "Dionysus", which words come in mind first ?
Probably "wine", "party", "alcohol" "fun god".
These words are what most people remember about Dionysus. And yes, I'm not going to deny, they fit.
Unfortunately, my problem comes with the fact that 9.5 times out of 10, Dionysus' personality will exclusively revolve around these aspects.
Since the issue is about modern adaptations and perceptions, I'll use a modern term.
I'm sure most of you are familiar with flanderization, right ? If not, the link to TV Tropes' article on the subject is available.
Many adaptations fell into that trap for, I think, every single Olympian.
Hades, god of the dead, lord of the Underworld = Satan, evil death god, darkness and sorrow
Aphrodite, goddess of love and beauty = Superficial bimbo who only cares about her pretty face
Zeus, king of the gods, lord of the sky and thunder = 100% pure God OR more recently : evil king god who constantly abuses women.
The gods are stripped of their complexity to fit simpler and more "digestible" characterizations. It doesn't help that the cultural context surrounding them is also taken away...
But this is about grape boi, right? Well, Dionysus is no exception to that rule. In fact, he might be one of the worst cases.
So far, he was never really portrayed in an "insulting" light, like Apollo in Lore Olympus or Hades in the Percy Jackson movie. Fortunately.
But, from all the popular adaptations I've seen, none of them manage to portray Dionysus ! None ! Does that make them automatically bad ? No, of course. It's just something I noticed.
God of war ? Doesn't appear, only mentioned
Disney ? Don't even try 🤣. Just a drunk goofball. Yes, that includes the fantasia segment and Hercules.
Lore Olympus? Well, he's a baby for 99.99999% of the time, so it doesn't count. But he's still a quiet little Gucci bag for Persephone.
Hades I ? Just a nice guy. But hey ! He can give us useful boons ! And I like his sass.
Maybe he'll do more in Hades II. They're usually more accurate than most, right ? Though that's not a very high bar. And they know about Zagreus ! Surely that's a good sign, right ?
Nevermind...
Here's what all these adaptations tell us :
Dionysus is the god of wine, feasts and parties
He's an Olympian
He likes to get drunk and party 🥳
And that's it.
Again, I'm not blaming anyone, but if the myths stopped with those three points, wouldn't everyone wonder why he's even an Olympian ? I sure did when I was a kid.
We have the god of thunder, the goddess of wisdom and war strategy, god of music/arts/medicine/100 other things, the god of the oceans ! Many cool gods !
And some drunk dude. He's not given any particular power, except the power to stay super passive no matter the stakes ! If the story revolves about epic godly fights (which is often the case), he's absolutely useless.
Heck, Hades II even actively depicts him as a pacifist who can't handle war. While he's not physically a weakling, he sure psychologically is.
Why is this a problem ?
I am not going to beat around the bush: this gives us a very incomplete and incorrect perception of the god.
Even the things that aren't forgotten about him (like his link to wine) aren't explored.
The thing with Hades II (that's the last time I'll mention it) is that it tries to deepen the flanderized version of Dionysus. He's not stupid, but afraid. He drinks to forget his issues.
While this characterization can be very interesting taken separately, we must remember that this isn't an OC, but an interpretation of a cultural figure.
It must be accurate ! While I can accept some liberties, I think that those should mostly be an extension of the original material, not a total deviation.
Dionysus isn't a scared little boi or a stupid drunkard you can manipulate. In fact, that's quite the opposite. And he's not afraid to get his hands dirty.
(even if the "dirt" in question is the blood of his enemies).
Under the surface
Though it's rather "stuff you can find on Wikipedia". Or by reading the myths.
More about it in part 2 of the rant...
It'll be about theater, madness, travels, link between mortality and immortality and... pirates turning into dolphins.
The actual interesting stuff about Dionysus.
Edits :
1. Thanks to @st4riel-the-w1tchling for clarifying the situation about Percy Jackson. I made my own research about BoZ. My opinion is basically still the same. Again, nothing terribly offensive, but nothing that interesting for Dionysus either.
2. I made part 2 a while ago, might as well add it here :
#justice for dionysus#if anything i said is wrong please fact-check me#fellow dionysus enjoyers or fans of the adaptations i mentioned#if you disagree. it's completely fine 😉. just my opinion#Dionysus#dionysos#greek mythology#greek myth discussion#rant#not a reblog#dionysus' iceberg

My favorite Yandere Types
Author's note: I will spare you the sob story and just say that my uncle needed my help right after he got out the hospital. It wrecked my scheduling and I already promised that I would do better with posting more frequently, so I did another ramble post. These classifications aren't polished in any way. I just spouted whatever comes to mind. Enjoy!
Note #2: Sorry if the pic for Laidback Yan is blurry. I'll figure out how to do memes better next time. Also, all the yanderes listed are male yandere because that's my personal favorite.
Sugar Daddies
Kind of a "money comes at a price" thing I always love.
Pro: Spoils you.
Con: Thinks he owns your life.
Personally, I'm not a fan of the 'I'll isolate you' types. In fact, I think it'll be cooler to see a yandere use darling's loved ones to his advantage, such as "How desperate are you to get your sister into that art school?" and "It would be a shame if your brother doesn't have that dream job. I'm sure you'd do ANYTHING to make that happen if you could, right?"
Sadist/Psycho
He wakes up and chooses violence. Just an absolute menace to society. You'd have to make bad choices in your life to have him obsessed with you. I love this one, because writers can be very creative on how they act towards darling and towards the world. Typically their MO is "I wont hesitate to beat and shoot people. Not even you, darling! You just get it less."
Femboy/Otouto
My love for this is clearly inspired by Narancia (JJBA) and Bachira (Blue Lock). It's a guy who's naive, hyper, sweet, just so adorable that he'll have you thinking he's non-threatening. Then, the yanderu comes out and shows you just how dangerous and manipulative he can be. Also, he will get aggressive when you try slipping from him. I imagine this type always using overt guilt tripping.
Mr.Hades
Emo boy kidnaps a ball of sunshine to cure his lonely depression, such as Hades taking Persephone. There's not much else to say since this shipping dynamic (brooding x happy-go-lucky) is very popular.
Laidback
The laidback yandere that dont seem Yandere at all. He's super chill, actually gives you freedoms, and seems alright letting you socialize with people. What's the issue? Seems like a normal boyfriend! That's why I love them! So where does the Yanderu part comes in? In many different ways! Usually, in the form of a blackmailer or a tracker. It's easy to let you do what you want when you're never really that far from him or he has you fearing the consequence enough to trust you'll come back to him willingly. Honestly, I might do my own post on laidback yanderes.

Rachel "Retcon" Smythe Strikes Again!
Okay, so I've been seeing pictures of Volume 4 of Lore Olympus floating around, and people are ALREADY FINDING RETCONS.
Most notably so far, some added panels in the Hades and Apollo confrontation that happens outside Artemis' house (when Persephone steals Apollo's lyre) in Episode 81.
This is the original scene, for anyone who needs a refresher:
Aaaand here are the panels that were added.
(all pictures of Volume 4 are courtesy @iwannagutyou on IG!!! thank you for giving me permission to use these! <3)
First of all, the art. It's so noticeably bad. You can tell Rachel has completely lost her ability to draw these characters in the S1 style, I'm fairly certain she took the panel of Hades from the old version and just copy pasted it to try and get around it (look at the posing) but it's incredibly obvious looking at that third panel that LO is not and can never be what it was back in 2017-2019. Those first two panels seem like they were copy pasted from the previous ones, which is just sad if those are the lengths she has to go to to come even close to replicating the older style.
Now, this just might be due to camera translation, it could very well look better IRL, but the colors just look so incredibly desaturated and the lines blurred out, to the point that people are doing double takes over whether or not panels have been directly changed - they haven't been, they've just been so sucked dry of their colors that they look off enough to cast suspicion.
If anything it's a harsh reminder that LO has kinda always had art problems, especially with its lazy humor and stupid meme faces.
Of course, to be fair, color loss can happen in print, but seeing how slapped together these books tend to be, I wouldn't be surprised if they just didn't put in the effort to convert the page art to CMYK or at least tinker with the saturation in editing some more to ensure it would come out more vibrant in print.
Now. Excuse me while I go on a bit of a crackpot rant here. Newbie puff pals beware, because this is gonna get dicey and you're about to learn where my tinfoil-hat rep comes from but I just have to talk about it.
Back to the added Apollo panels, where Persephone asks Hades not to hurt him and he looks nervous before she says "I just want him to leave".
Maybe it's just me, but it's a little weird that THESE are the panels they decided they needed to add. It's weird that she's asking Hades not to hurt Apollo when she's about to break into his car and steal his lyre just a few moments later. It's weird that the implication seems to be that she's referring to Hades' act of violence towards Tori... but Persephone doesn't know that's happened yet. So this feels like an unnecessary retcon that's doing more harm than good.
But I feel like the timing of this is kinda messed up as well, as this book released just days after the release of the last FP episode in which Apollo has his 'side' of the assault story told through his perspective, which is often considered a HUGE no-no in writing assault stories because it often comes with the implication that it's asking for empathy from the audience. We already know Apollo is delusional, we already know he thinks him and Persephone are meant to be despite her constant rejection of him, we didn't need a flashback from his own warped perspective explaining that very thing, the only purpose to do such a thing this late in the game would be to try and get the audience to 'connect' with him (it's giving S3 Bryce from 13 Reasons Why vibes). Now we have this scene of Persephone asking Hades not to hurt him (despite the structure of the episode being literally fine before, this change wasn't needed) getting snuck into the physical book release just a couple days after the newest FP tried to present Apollo in an empathetic light (and let me tell you, that's a whole essay and a half that I'll be getting into eventually).
Shit, if I wanted to get REAL Pepe Sylvia with it, I might say that hypothetically, the whole point of the random Leuce abuse episode - despite Persephone having no way of knowing what she attempted as Hades hadn't told her and she wasn't there to see it and we weren't shown her overhearing them in any way - and the following episode that was mostly padding of Hades and Persephone having sex - no consequences or follow-up whatsoever to the Leuce scene - was just to pad out the episode release schedule and buy time until the book came out so that Rachel could release that Apollo POV episode right before the book came out and revealed those new added scenes of Persephone asking Hades not to hurt Apollo, in what could be a sly artificial attempt at minimizing the SA plot so Rachel can finally just brush aside the one major plot point she regretted writing the most. After all, it wouldn't be the first time Rachel's controlled the pace of her comic to release certain moments at certain times that line up with IRL events.
But, y'know. I'm gonna quit on that thought while I'm ahead because it's probably making my credibility meter drop into the red. My ADHD has been real bad lately and it's really starting to show LMAO All ima say is that IDK who Rachel thinks she's fooling here, this kind of shit is stupid easy to fact check when the digital version of the comic is available online to read.
To end on a much funnier and lighter note, remember how Rachel tried to retcon the Demeter/Hera/Hestia relationship by changing the line "I miss my sisters" to "I miss my friends"? Well, there was one panel that had been missed in the webtoons version that still refers to them as sisters. You can still find this unedited line in Episode 78.
And uh. They forgot to fix it again for the book.
It's permanent now. That's permanent marker. It would have cost them nothing to find this in the webtoon version and fix it before it got sent to the book editors. Now it's gonna cost them thousands because the book editors didn't bother (or know) to check.
There's also this... weird shit going on with the speech bubbles. Like, they're REALLY FUCKING OVERDOING IT with the speech bubble outlines. I don't know who made this choice but it was a bad one. Gross. Don't do that. It looks so cheap.
But let's be real, at this point I feel like the book editors are just outright sabotaging Rachel because who the fuck calls themselves a professional when they do this shit-
Oh, and there's no bonus episode, just sketches. Which is fine. But it makes me chuckle to think that Rachel just didn't have time in her already razor-thin buffer to draw up a new episode to pass off as "cut content".
#i'm fired for that whole conspiracy bit aren't i#can you blame me when the wedding was lined up with valentine's day and dio's birth was lined up with mother's day#i swear to christ rachel does this on purpose it's so unhinged#just write a story#it doesn't make your comic 'deep' to line it up with real world dates that aren't gonna matter in 3 weeks anyways when they go up for free#it's just so unnecessary and pointless to do#lore olympus critical#lo critical#antiloreolympus#anti lore olympus

Hi! Happy summer☀️
What would the reaction be if McDreamy had a partner and the partner came to a match? The mothers, the aunts and children of Barça all looking in shock🤭Alexia and Irene —> o_0!!???That meme that goes “me and the bad b I pulled by being funny” except it would be oblivious in her case😂
Do you think Terpsichore would fit Bambi better? She is one of the Muses but also Goddess of dance and chorus which aligns w/Bambi’s career or maybe Persephone in the sense that after she was taken away from Alexia (Demeter —> who kept her daughter hidden and placed her in this metaphorical closet when the daughter she never wanted didn’t turn out to be a football star like her), she comes into her crown as the Goddess of Spring in which she tends and nurtures her flowers (James and Olivia) while Grace is her Hades (her older soulmate), the one who she bared her pain and hope to; Grace who loves her even when she told her about her hoe phase. Jenni would be Hestia —> Goddess of hearth, family and domesticity.
Can’t wait for Jenni’s version when Alexia meets the grandkids who don’t know her, where one looks exactly like her father and the other reminds her of Bambi before everything went south😊
—> at a RFEF ceremony, Jenni gets an award to celebrate her caps and during the afterparty with everyone’s family, Alexia (w/Alba, Jaume, Alba and Eli) hears someone shout “Abue!” and she gets a flashback to Bambi saying that to her mother. She turns around and watches a tween girl hugging Jenni and this teenager boy who from the back reminds her of her dad/son, and makes eye contact w/Bambi. That’s when she realizes these are her grandkids but she doesn’t get to have them in her life. Bambi breaks eye contact, and proceeds to hug Jenni while Grace is busy taking pictures and then proceeds to hug out the life out of Jenni😭
(What Alexia doesn’t see is James looking at her and wondering why this other lady looks similar to his Mamá)
Mcdreamy does have a girlfriend! She's a Lyon defender that attended the Chelsea academy with her. She was injured during the final so didn't play but her appearing at a Barcelona match would definitely throw a few people.
I feel like Terpsichore would be too old school for Alexia to have named Bambi. And maybe not Persephone either but Persephone used to be known as Kore which kind of translates to maiden/young girl/little girl which kind of gives similar to vibes to the kind of names Alexia could potentially give Bambi
Alexia seeing Jenni at some fancy party thing for legends of the game or something and sees Bambi there with Grace at the bar and their son drinking a coke while their daughter's just stuck to Jenni and Alexia seeing all that she potentially could have had

hi hi! kinda new to the helpol crowd so i was wondering: what is it like when a deity contacts you? do you see an image of them? hear a voice in your head? or do you have thoughts that are distinctly not your own? are their messages more direct or indirect? what are the messages usually about? how do you feel when you recieve them? which deity do you get contacted by the most?
Heyo! So, first, obligatory UPG disclaimer: this is all only my own experience, and has no basis in mythology or anything like that. Also for the sake of transparency; I'm not a Hellenic Polytheist. If you've been around my blog and you vibe with the way I work with deities, then cool! But I do feel the need to say that I'm a witch who works primarily with Hellenic deities (and then there's Loki) so I don't follow the same traditions as some of the helpol community! (The best example being the concept of miasma. Some helpol people swear by it, others don't, and as for me it makes me wildly uncomfortable.)
Disclaimer aside, I'll just answer all these as best I can! Thank you for the ask^^
When it comes to how exactly I receive whatever they're saying, I feel like it's... a weird mix of all of your examples. Sometimes, especially if I'm not particularly tuned in, it's absolutely a thought that just isn't my own. Sometimes I even mistake it for my own at first, and then go "I have absolutely no reason to think that what the hell was that about-?" (ex. naming Loki's playlist "Loki's shit music taste" or giving an offering that has no association with them, pausing bc what the hell no, and then realizing that was them.) Other times I get words and images, although now that I think about it I'm not sure they have distinct voices? I "hear" them in my head, and some of them have clear voices sometimes, but it just depends on how I'm feeling. They essentially communicate however I'm able to receive it at the moment.
I feel like right now, it's more direct than indirect. Obviously this isn't the case for everyone, and I feel the need to say that it's not something anyone should ever feel bad about. It's not better, it's just different. As for what they talk about when they do... uh, everything? I don't know how to word it any better XD Sometimes it's about offerings, sometimes about genuinely serious stuff, but usually it's just... them popping in because they have something to say about whatever I'm doing. My work with them is fairly casual, so it ranges from "YOOOOOO your sleep schedule is so good right now I'm so proud!" to literal memes and no I'm not joking. But that's less the Hellenic deities I work with and more Loki.
(Although, I am reminded that Aphrodite and Loki are an absolutely wild comedic duo. They all do have a sense of humor lol.)
So for the most part, as weird as it might seem since I'm talking about deities that a lot of people view as above humanity, I.... just feel like I'm talking to friends most of the time. Maybe parental figures, since I literally call Hades and Persephone my "underworld parents" lol. For the most part, it's just a nice feeling like chatting with someone I know and care for and that I know cares for me.
And last but not least, right now Loki- although I know they're not a Hellenic deity, so they may not be the answer you were looking for lol- is the most active in my life. They're very loud, very much so prone to the clearest signs and clearest direct communication as well. Apollo and Aphrodite are a close second, though. Apollo has been fucking thrilled that I'm starting to finally successfully change my sleep schedule, and Aphrodite has really been nudging me towards self-care lately.
#this is a HUGE wall of text but I hope it answers your questions well enough anon!#feel free to send another ask if it doesn't ofc#side note; aphrodite has SASS#like I knew she had sass but it caught my mom off gaurd the other night when we were chatting and aphrodite was basically just#giving running commentary with loki#which isn't super uncommon in this household it's weird lol#aphrodite deity#loki deity#hades deity#persephone deity#apollo deity#also has anyone else had loki and aphrodite just be absolutely feral as a duo#they were so fucking funny#witchblr#witchcraft#pagan witch#paganism#witch community#paganblr#eclectic pagan#pagan#witch blog#deity work

Durandal's form 'Palatinus Equinox' from honkai impact 3rd kinda looks like Persephone and Hades child.
Persephone thinks that Neuvillette and Durandal are her children Zagreus and Macaria(?)
I had the joke that Neuvillette was the son of Hades and Persephone due to their great physical kinship and because Xiao told me so in the server, as soon as I saw Durandal I thought the same thing, that she was their daughter and has the same vibes.
I loved drawing them, it was really cute! I may make more memes of them.

for the fandom ask meme, something a little different: hadestown, 5, 10, 12, 19?
Hi Swan, thank youuu <3
from this great ask game
5. ...the scene from it that lives in my head rent free.
With certain casts, possibly due to the height difference between the actors playing Persephone and Hades, Hades kneels down and wraps his arms around Persephone’s waist after Epic III. Also the moment when Will Mann’s Hermes calls Orpheus “baby.” Also the dance break in “Livin’ It Up On Top” and Eurydice tearing up the dance floor. Also NYTW Come Home with Me II. Also the way some cast members bump each others’ shoulders with such affection during “We Raise Our Cups”
10. ...how many fics I've read that are set in it (approximately and making exaggerated guesstimates).
Hmm, I only have two or three Hadestown bookmarks on AO3, but at the time when I first got into Hadestown (2018-2019), I wasn’t utilizing the bookmark function very much. But I think I’ve read at least fifteen or twenty. The second and third fics that I ever posted were Hadestown fics, actually! These days I don’t read or write much Hadestown fanfic—not for any negative reason, it’s just not a media I have that kind of relationship with.
12. ...what attracted me into checking it out.
It was 2018. I had a really big crush on Amber Gray. That’s the whole story, I’m afraid.
19. ...one behind-the-scenes trivia fact I've learned somewhere and my thoughts on it.
Amber Gray can’t read music! https://www.billboard.com/music/awards/amber-gray-interview-hadestown-tony-nominee-8514521/#
“I was never specifically trained in musical theater and told I had to sound a certain way, so I missed that kind of abuse in a certain way. I also can’t read music, which is a pain sometimes but helpful in other moments when I’m learning because I don’t get scared of a note on the page. I’m not intimidated by a high or low note, I just try to figure out how to sing it.”
This is very encouraging to me, personally, since I love to sing and I love musical theatre and I can’t read music either 😅 Clearly it hasn’t stopped Amber one bit.

how much do you know about (greek) mythology and no matter the amount what is your opinion on Hera? :>
I don't really know that much actually!!!
I'm aware of most of the major gods and their job, of some minor gods, of Medusa and Persephone&Hades, bugI don't think I've ever read anything related to it (Except the Iliad)
As for Hera! My opinion may be biased bc what I know of greek mythology is not a lot and some of it is through Percy Jackson osmosis, but damn the woman can never catch a break can she. Zeus will fuck anything that moves
I find it funny that she got rid of Hephestus coz he was ugly though. Might not have the full story but it's just so. Silly
I do know more than your average person, but I'm no expert. You know that meme that goes experts assume people know more than they actually do about their field of study even if knowingly speaking to a person that isn't familiar with it? I'm the person the experts would assume the right amount of knowledge from I think. If that makes any sense lol

@stygicniron sent a meme: ✏
So for a while, I actually entertained writing Persephone. I didn't get too far in development of her, but I almost decided to add her to my roster before chickening out.
I usually go for minor characters with few myths so I have more freedom, so that was part of why I didn't, but the main reason is that I don't think she would've fit well in the RPC– back then, or today. Why? Because my Seph ultimately goes with the original myth of kidnap and rape, and while some Hades were/are okay with the former, they aren't with the latter. Which is fine and understandable!
Ultimately I set her aside because I knew at best I probably wouldn't do much with her, and at worst I'd be disliked for my portrayal of her, especially since the time I was considering writing her was also the height of the Hades/Persephone romanticization, and suggesting their relationship was anything but loving and consensual from beginning to end would get you cold-shouldered (I literally lost a friend over expressing the idea of Persephone being kidnapped in a post lmao).
So yeah. I almost wrote Persephone.

Hey hey! Stumbled across your Rayman/Reflux art and oh my God. You have no idea how happy I was to find out I wasn't the only one. I've been stuck in this hell for around 8 years now and the one time I shared it with my brother the ancient drawing ended up becoming a meme in the Rayman speedrun community lmao.
I will likely draw the two again soon since seeing all the art of Rayman on my desk has reawakened this ship from a dormant side of my brain. There's just so much potential! Generally I wish more people spoke about Reflux but it appears he gets often times forgotten.
8 years? You were ahead of the times
Thank this fanfic for existing because I wouldn’t be shipping them otherwise, it’s not only an interesting ship fic but has a unique take on Rayman lore with an intriguing plot (and also I may have been commissioned to do sketches for it)
I do not think I’ve seen the meme you’re talking about , though I’m also not into speed runs so that’s likely why
I think the reason there isn’t much Reflux or knaaren stuff is because most people found the knaarens scary and those people are cowards , thirsty people focus more on Betilla and her sisters , as well as the princesses
I’m currently hyper fixated on Laserhawk atm and I’m attempting a Laserfrog au, but I do look forward to seeing more Reflux art and such. I agree Reflux is an interesting character and I think you can pull some interesting stuff from him when you look past the “KH boss music” memes
Have these two having an awful wedding moment from my hades and Persephone au, as a treat

Hades for ask game
So freaking excited for Hades 2, ngl
Ask Game Here
3 male characters I love: Zagreus, Dionysus (those freaking thighs oof), Achilles
3 female characters I love: Artemis (I literally simp for her in the game. She gets all my nectar and I get nothing 🥰), Persephone (mommy sorry mommy sorry mommy--), Nyx (same thing as Persephone ngl)
3 romantic ships I love: Orpheus/Eurydice (the amount of nectar and time and love I spent to get them to sing together), Achilles/Patroclus (the amount of nectar and time and love I spent-), Zagreus/Thanatos/Meg (Hades 2 better have a poly as well is all I'm saying)
3 platonic dynamics I love: Zagreus/Minotaur (I really do love the convos and the mutual respect they have even with Theseus's bitch ass there), Skelly/Zagreus (the fact that it's the same voice actor still kills me every time, kind of like how I kill Skelly--),
3 favorite moments in canon:
Being tricked into thinking I had to fight Cerberus and feeling my heart break only for me to let out the biggest sigh (and then deal with the most annoying enemies in the game. They've killed me more then freaking Hades has)
First time hearing Orpheus sing and it's the same song Eurydice sang. The chills I got from his version and how unbelievably sad it sounded. I made a 3 part fic just because of this damn song and the different versions.
The record scratching and music completely stopping after stealing from Charon's shop. I just saw it and didn't even think about it. I barely saw that it said "Steal?" before I had already clicked it. It was just so fucking funny and I definitely let out an "Oh shit" and died to him the first time cause I was not ready.
3 favorite headcanons:
This is another series that I've done so many romantic headcanons for (and I ended up being swamped in requests too, fully expect that for Hades 2 as well)
Hypnos sharing his autograph book with Thanatos. He's just so proud and happy and saying things like, "Well, I got the Asterius's autograph" and Thanatos staying quiet even though he's definitely met Theseus and Asterius several times.
Persephone getting Hades and Zagreus a "Get Along" shirt. No way in hells would they wear it, but it would be such a funny thing for her to do and then she'd explain about the memes of the mortal world (which I can only imagine the memes of ancient greece)
Zagreus trying to teach Thanatos and Meg how to fish. Thanatos actually does a good job, but Meg gets frustrated a bit and scares off the fish (they all cheer when she does eventually catch one).
3 least favorite things about it:
Zeus is in it 😔 (yes I understand that Zeus would be in the game based on greek mythology, but anyone that's into greek mythology or knows a bit about it knows that Zeus is the literal worse).
Apollo isn't in it (I love sun daddy so much. I know he's going to be in Hades 2, but I really would've loved the interactions with Zagreus and choosing one sibling over the other. I just hope Hades 2 Apollo isn't like Lore Olympus Apollo)
I wish there was some more variations with the cast. Like I know there's different dps effects or you get more based on certain things, but I wish that it could have some aesthetic changes depending on which deity you have a boon from.

I don't have a scene that lives rent-free in my head so much as I still have an impression of every single fic of yours that I've ever read.
Like, sometimes I'll find a fic, read it, think "well, that was neat!", go to leave kudos and be met wit the "you've already left kudos here :D"-message. Insert Gandalf meme here.
Couldn't happen with your stuff. I think I remember pretty much everything from The Bearing of Iron, The Guiding of Death remains a beautiful rendition of Hades and Persephone, I still sometimes get flashes of "this song would be great for Ray's Addams!Toni fic!". And even The Limitations of Wax, which I don't think I actually ever finished (I came here already with a severe case of Steve Rogers Isn't All That >:() but I sure remember those two assholes who sold Toni's story to the press.
So. No single scene. But a whole bunch of vibes.

same anon as last ask. I also have to note: i dont think there are any good reasons for domestic abuse. there are none. you said hades didnt deserve to get slapped but then had previously said "as if the victim of the slap wasn’t a guy who was just as if not more abusive than she was in that relationship in his own fucked up way". reading that it does feel like you are saying he deserved to be slap or trying to justify it. maybe you arent tho? btw i dont give a shit about that man lmao
No, and you're right! But that's always the assumption people make whenever defenses for Minthe are made - that by empathizing with Minthe, or by pointing out that Hades was just as shitty in the relationship as she was, you're excusing domestic violence and abuse - and they're very... strawmen assumptions, IMO.
(TW: abuse)
The issue with the Minthe debate is that a lot of people fail to hold every other abusive character in the comic to the same standards they hold Minthe, and they fail to recognize everything that led up to the slap.
Like, when Hecate slapped the shit out of Hades for being into Persephone, where were people then? It was played off for laughs.
But then Minthe slaps Hades once during an emotional breakdown and all of a sudden she's an irredeemable villain.
No one deserves to be physically or verbally assaulted whether or not mental health is involved. But when mental health is a factor in cases like Minthe - which it is because she was initially designed with BPD until Rachel retconned it on Discord - it's one of those "it's a reason, not an excuse" sort of deals. If LO Minthe was being written by someone who actually cared about mental health representation, she would have been given the same opportunity to grow and learn from her mistakes and past transgressions just as Hades and Persephone have been given.
Instead, Minthe is a villain for having a moment of cruelty during a breakdown, and Hades and Persephone never seem to have to own up to the shit they do. Abuse is never okay, but LO is essentially saying "abuse is okay if you're cute and rich and if you make funny meme faces while you do it."
Characters like Minthe are WAY more interesting than Hades and Persephone BECAUSE of their flaws, she isn't peddled as perfect, she's real. Minthe and characters like her are raw and genuine, they don't feel like they're putting on some act of "niceness", they feel like people, people who make mistakes and fuck up and suffer consequences for their decisions and their action. I've seen a lot of people empathize with and enjoy Minthe's character simply because they do see themselves in her, they see her vulnerabilities and her flaws and her fears and recognize that she's not perfect. Some people truly are irredeemable beyond repair, but Minthe... Minthe still had a fighting chance. We had that chance when she first dumped Thetis, it was so cathartic to see her take control of her own situation and healing... but then RS backtracked on it immediately because she accidentally made the character who she knew she wanted Persephone to turn into a plant way too empathetic. So instead she opted to dial up Minthe's shittiness to 1584923108 in order to get her audience to hate her - and to ensure anyone who did still empathize with her look abusive by extension.
She didn't need or deserve 'another chance' from Hades, or Hecate, or the other people who she had already hurt countless times. But she does deserve to give herself the chance to grow and learn and move forward to something better. We all do. It's why forgiveness is one of the most essential first steps in growth.
I'm tired of reading about H x P "forgiving" themselves for what they do with false platitudes of TherapySpeak. Because they never learn, they keep acting like shitheads and much of their behavior comes across as fake and disingenuous, like they're just putting on a show. And that's when they actually acknowledge their behavior, more often than not their bullshit is celebrated.
I don't want to celebrate abuse. I want to see character development. You can't develop or grow if you're deluded into thinking you're not doing anything wrong. Persephone and Hades have nowhere to go. Minthe had an entire life ahead of her away from Hades and Thetis... and we were robbed of the chance to witness it.
But that's just my two cents.

what about your take on a mer au?
[AU ask meme. I haven't really read any mer AUs but I'll do my best!]
Persephone inherits a run down ocean front property from a dead relative she didn't know she had. She's up for an adventure though so she moves in immediately. There is also a boat and a small private dock. The beach it's located on is fairly rocky, with cliffs, a small cove, and no nearby neighbors.
She notices what look like shark fins in the water near her home. She didn't know sharks came so close to shore. When she also sees what appears to be a small dolphin or whale fin, she starts thinking maybe the rocks are trapping sea creatures near the shore.
Persephone goes out during a storm to secure her boat when she noticed it was getting pulled away from the dock. The waves and rain made the wood slippery, and it only took a strong gust and a poorly placed coil of rope for her to slip and fall in the water.
She is rescued and taken to land in the nearby cove by Hades and Hythlodaeus, who are both merfolk. Hyth is the one that insisted, Hades is leery of humans. Persephone thinks she hit her head when she fell and is hallucinating.
Hades has a shark tail, Hyth has a dolphin tail. Those just seemed like the correct design choices.
