Intro post!

HII!!

My name on the internet is Dandelion, but you can call me whatever you like honestly. It's so hard to find a good name around here, the fae keep stealing them

I use any pronouns, online people default to they/them, IRL people default to she/her, you can use whatever you feel like!

I'm aroace 🧡💛🤍🩵💙 and my gender is up to interpretation lol

I'm 16 and I live in France but I have both French and American citizenship (so i do speak both french and english)

I have both scoliosis (diagnosed, 45°) and probably dyslexia (not officially diagnosed but all the internet tests I did were screaming at me to go get an official diagnosis- as has life lol) and those two really hate each other who deCIDED SCOLISOIS SHOULD BE SPELLED THE WAY IT IS (if i spell it correctly be aware that either I copied it from somewhere, or i thought about it for WAY too long, or it was a monkeys on keyboards thing)

I created a blog just for reblogging shit (aptly named @dandelionflowery-reblogs) but even with that I can't promise to tag stuff correctly on either blog...

I'm not often super active on here, at least not regularly, mostly because I have way too many classes but sometimes I go absolutely insane and spend like an entire day on here (oops)

Hello! I recently found your account, and I went on scrolling down and down...and now I hope you know how grateful I am. Thank u- Merci. About 90% of the content you share here has made me feel so much better. I realllyy hope wonderful things happen for you. I've been a fan of hp since 2001, but I'm not really a social media person so I haven't been active in the fandom. I had no idea what was happening here until recently..two months ago to be exact (other details are not important) and omg.. I ended up in a discussion with some I think, new fans. tbh I thought, "Great! I'm good at this, I read all the books more than once Let's talk :)" and omg their very first question was "What do you think about Regulus?"

I was like, "Who?" *dying from secondhand embarrassment bc It turns out I'm not that good at this

but as the discussion continued, I became more and more baffled bc "Why was everyone talking about Barty, Evan, and Regulus? who is daddy Remu? and what do you mean people ship James Potter with R.A.B.? What?"

I swear for a moment I thought "Did the writer publish a new book? Did I miss something? " tbh, I respect everyone's opinion it's none of my business but I'm still shocked. The only thing that bothers me is everything that happened with this new Wolfsar

omg, for most fans around my age (or at least people I know), Sirius was the complete portrayal of a bad boy- a rebel, with boots, tattoos, a leather jacket, and a fucking motorcycle. so this new Sirius is like a stranger to me, and that's okay. Mein issue is kinda with this new Remus T T my beloved .

They (the fans I was talking with) told me Remus is "tall, so handsome, SO strong, and hot-headed person because, yk he's a werewolf." I was like "hot headed? excuse me?" I tried to explain to them that Remus being a werewolf is a metaphor for illnesses like HIV, it's not some superpowery gift. they didn't believe me, but then they literally looked me in the face and said, "Then why would Sirius like someone like him? He's poor, short, and ugly." I swear I wanted to cry right then and there.

What is this mindset that makes some people think that a person should be, Idk, hot and flawless to deserve to be loved? Yes I don't think Remus is tall and super hot and perfect and isn't it fine? and I am 100% sure he's so beautiful. not like Sirius ofc but he has this "warm, cozy, and soft" sort of beauty. and I don't think he was a coward (ok maybe he was a liitle) but I guess it's easier for us, humans, to take the worst or weakest moment of a character and amplify it until it defines them entirely. and omg I'm so sorry for my rant and my bad english. but once again thank you for your beautiful soul <3 thank you

Hi anon! I, too, am baffled by the recent obsession with Regulus in this fandom. I think Jegulus is fine as a crack ship, but it has become so mainstream that many fans have just gone ahead and canonized it to the point that you'll be vilified for not accepting it as canon. I underestimated how popular the "best friend's brother" trope was, apparently. I also think it appeals to many fans as a Marauders Era version of one of the most popular ships of all time, Drarry.

This new version of Wolfstar is my biggest complaint with today's fandom, too! I get that the Marauders have very limited canon information and therefore we have more creative freedom to flesh them out, but I really believe that it has gone way too far. Sirius and Remus in today's fandom don't bear any resemblance to the characters they're based on. Remus is just a generic alpha werewolf OC and Sirius is his generic himbo femboy love interest OC. They don't even share a physical description with their Canon counterparts, and their personalities and character traits are so far removed that I can't even fathom how we reached this point as a fandom. How can you claim to like these characters if you have to change everything the source material says about them?

You're English is great, by the way! I completely agree that Remus has a cozy-and-warm sort of beauty. He made a point to distance himself from the stigma surrounding Lycanthropy because it was the focal point of his shame and self-loathing. And I just adore Wolfstar's dynamic from this lens, with the intimidatingly beautiful, confident, headstrong Sirius Black, who could have his pick of anyone he wants, choosing this ordinary guy because he's cozy and soft and it's exactly what Sirius wants after surviving the harsh ideals and abuse of House Black.

hi! i've no idea how i came to your page but i realised i'd read two of your one-shots in ao3 before and had adored them (you'll probably get comments from me in future, btw) and i just wanted to say thank you for your writing and thank you for your prongsfoot<3

i've been very critical of this sort of new, cool and aloof and martyred version of remus lupin for quite a while now (honestly, where did all those traits come from?!) and gosh, you're so eloquent when talking about him!!!

i was wondering what your thoughts were on regulus black? because i think he's getting the same sort of royalty treatment as remus does by making him sort of-- er, perfect? i mean. i've seen so much recently of him basically saving the world single-handedly and i-- ugh. and james is always just there, like a useless idiot? it makes me irrationally angry, and this is coming from someone who enjoys jegulus quite a bit. my problem is that i don't know if this rejection i feel against those two comes from a place of genuine dislike of them or from a place of wishing sirius and james were not done so dirty.

ooooooh i remember being asked something similar a while ago and i took the safe route and basically went ‘remus lupin-ification of regulus’ iirc. that still stands. but but. i’ve also got another answer here! all hail tumblr’s search system today!

i still basically stand by all of it, but adding onto the jegulus + sirius bits of it:

annoys tf outta me when regulus is turned into a victim and like sirius damned him to hell when he left . i have thoughts about the way both of them were treated (which,,,another time,,,this post is already getting too long lol) but i imagine the day sirius left to be a Good One for reg bc he thinks he’ll have his parents undivided attention now. i also think regulus is severely defanged in a lot of characterisations, as if he wasn’t a baby DE, as if he wasn’t a slytherin from the house of black, as if he wasn’t walmart sirius black. like man i’m almost offended on his behalf. i’m sure his shaking his lil fist up at us from wherever he is.

with jegulus…okay, i’ve only read a couple oneshots but that doesn’t mean i haven’t tried. i genuinely went thru so many fics trying to get something, anything to stick and i think the problem is me. fully. completely. without doubt. i just can’t deal with a situation where j&s aren’t each others no.1, or at the very least, equivalent to that. that’s where my issues w wolfstar started, same w this. jegulus also has the added horror of ‘james and reg sneaking behind sirius’ back’ which is just,,,,gosh,,,,i have So Many Thoughts ab that. all personal opinions, but still. they’re strong. it fucks me up just thinking about it. i also think the ship tries wayyyy too hard to fit the ‘best friend’s brother’ trope and ends up sacrificing characterisation for it. which,,,again,,,that’s fine but it’s all the ‘oh this is how it was!’ that gets to me. and then james :/// he gives off such weird energy lol. jegulus gives me drarry vibes, and james is treated almost exactly as harry is in a lot of those. reg also gets the saviour treatment, like draco, and both of their fuckery is toned down until they’re almost normal, like they never did any reprehensible shit. j&r, and d&h are placed on the same moral equivalence and it’s just a bit. hmm. okay. (my issue with this is how it leaks into the writing and suddenly i’m made to sympathise with draco bc harry slashed him w sectumsempra, but we conveniently forget he was gonna use an unforgivable, ykno?) so overall it just feels…pushing reg up and pulling james down to get them on equal footing. very similar to wolfstar lbr.

anyway. that’s a ramble and a half lmao.

also!! ‘a place of genuine dislike of them or from a place of wishing sirius and james were not done so dirty’ in my mind, both of these occupy a similar plane of existence. so very valid. for me, personally, hating remrem started as the latter and i eventually realised it’s also the former lol i was just mad a how sirius is bastardised to justify his ~deification and it eventually moved on to ‘wow i just. do not like him’. damn.

definitely i see you in the daytime (i hear you at night), my first fic for masters of the air actually that spawned as a way to vent my feelings after the dreaded third episode lmaoo </3 thought that would get those boys out of my system, and i couldn't be happier to have been more wrong <3

ruh roh this kinda made me realize all my fics have some sorta melancholy/bittersweet ending even when they're hopeful... yad(iym) is gonna fix me fr (i think). but i guess the fuse to my fire since curt lives and the three of them are curtbuckbuckying indefinitely <3

i have in past fandoms but not here thankfully bc i am sensitive LOL. i've had weirdo anons that bitch about john bottoming (and i don't think those people realize it makes me inclined to write even more sub and/or bottom john to be petty SJGDK) but i wouldn't consider that hate, just bad fandom etiquette ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

do you write smut?

YEAHHH BABY <3 that's like. 99% of my drabbles/brainrot posts here and it takes serious self control to not just constantly write pwp oneshots, it's too much fun!! finding the balance in my chaptered fic for how much nsfw is too much is such a journey too lol, i wanna cram a spicy scene into every chapter but the part of me that adores slowburn over any other trope reins the gay brain in </3

craziest crossover?

haven't written any as of yet, but i do have my leaving!bikeriders au that i'm hoping to turn into a chaptered fic this summer, and that's exactly what it sounds like– buckbucky, but yank parts of callum's character from the leaving series and parts of austin's character from the bikeriders to create a buckbucky modern au. :-)

i mean for me it's always a ship from whatever media i'm fixating on, so right now any variations of curtbuckbucky and cattonquick are everything to me <3 but in terms of ships that'll always have my heart, i can't ever let go of drarry, pricefield, clexa/murphamy, sciles/sterek– any from media i consumed during formative teenage years lol. but i will say i have never created anywhere near as much content for any other fandom as i have for mota :')

what's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

for once i actually have none that i see myself abandoning! i would notoriously abandon wips in past fandoms and probably would still, but guess who finally got on adhd meds last month after years of waiting? this guyyyy. i can start projects... and enjoy them the whole way through... and not get frustrated and trash them... who am i

i mean tbf i have at least a dozen wips that i've gotten either a few paras or few thousand words into lol but then a new shiny idea grabs my attention, but i do think i'll end up finishing most if not all of them off eventually! once i've invested enough time/words into a wip, i feel way more motivated to finish it so i'm not 'wasting' my efforts.

what are your writing strengths?

i feel most confident when i'm writing dialogue over anything else. writing conversation–heavy scenes or just straight up porn is when i overthink the least lmaoo

what are your writing weaknesses?

oh god, definitely having to spell out what's going on in a character's mind. like, i know what they're thinking as i'm writing out scenes; i can feel their emotions and all. i just have such a hard time putting it into words in a way that doesn't feel too obvious/overstated, if that makes sense. i very much prefer to show rather than tell their emotions, but sometimes it's hard to get that right, and i agonize over solo scenes the most, when i can't show what a character is feeling by way of verbal conversation with another character.

thoughts on dialogue in another language?

no specific opinion! sometimes it's cool to read/write, mostly i don't really have an opinion one way or another :-)

first fandom you wrote in?

lmfaooo i'm pretty sure it was either for olddd youtube ships or frerard ngl. not sure which came first bc i wrote so much at once

favorite fic you've written?

you're a dog (i'm your man) has been such a labour of love for me because i care so much about doing it justice :') so maybe that one, but if unfinished fics don't count, i actually wrote breathe me in (exhale slow) in one rushed four–ish hour sitting and was kinda neutral on it until i got a completely unexpected burst of kind and beautifully worded responses, and then i felt a tiny bit proud <3

harry potter headcanons/concepts/aus that i LOVE

- first of all, my FAVORITE ships:

- drarry (i mean, c'mon, its so obvious it hurts)

- i liked ginny x harry, bc i like ginny a lot, BUT GINNY X PANSY?! at the edge of my seat, screaming, crying, throwing up

- love me my ronmione, but i also like ace!hermione, being way too focused on her career and her passions than even think about a relationship

- i love jily sm but i also love james x lily x regulus?????

- harry is half indian (the potters being indian) tbh i never imagined him that way while growing up and seeing daniel radcliff as harry. but the more i got into the fandom on tumblr, the more i feel in love with this concept.

it somehow makes so much more sense??? not only bc representation matters, but also the hate he got in his early life. harry grew up at the dursleys, in a middle class neighborhood in 1980 England. And all i'm trying to say with that is:

i can imagine vernon and his sister were THE perfect candidates for being racist twats. vernon hated harry and his father for being wizards, but why would marge hate him THAT MUCH? she didnt know harry and his family were magical. i think it would make so much sense she hated them for not being white and vernon hated them for it too (god, i really hate them sm)

also, i always thought it was so weird that not a single teacher/adult/ANYONE saw little harry being abused??? not only the bruises he got from dudley (and prop vernon too), but also his malnourished body, his way too big clothes, his broken glasses, etc. they never questioned this or gave a single fuck. maybe they never gave a fuck, bc why should they? its just a dirty indian kid anyways and besides, they all look like this, dont they??? 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ i fucking hate racist people so much

- talking about racist people. black hermione is the single greatest thing and i can't believe theres still a debate out there, that she cant be black bc "emma watson is my forever hermione". y'all are just lil twats, go away 😒

- harrys scar being way more different than in the movies/early book covers

i loooove the concept of harry having a scar like an actual lightning bolt. bc first, it would indicate, that surviving the (powerful) killing curse would take a huge toll on a body.

second, it would look like an actual wound that magic could achieve.

i googled 'lichtenberg scars', scares that people got from actually being struck by a lightning bolt (or super high electricity).

they dont look natural at all, which makes them so unique and special and would fit the only surviving person of the avada kedavra curse. it also would explain why people would always ask harry to see his scar and why they were so fascinated about it (i know they want to see it bc of voldie and shit, but i think you get my point).

and third, it would look badass as fuck ngl

- i love scars in general. especially harrys lightning scar, but also rons tentacle-like scars he got in book 5. or dracos sectumsempra scars. or hermiones 'mudblood' scar. generally, i love fanarts or fanfics where they are visible or depicted. and the characters having to live with and accepting them.

- i'm a sucker for drarry fics, where harry sees dracos scars that he caused for the first time, how shocked and embarrassed he is for causing so much harm. apologizing profusely for them and draco beeing slightly overwhelmed by harrys behavior. (if you have recommendations for such fics, pls tell me).

- i've once red a fic where draco and hermione modified the scar bellatrix left on her by changing the word mudblood into "my blood is magic". i got goosebumps reading this, bc it felt so empowering somehow. but i also like the thought of hermione leaving the word by how it is, to remind anyone out there, what she's been through and what a powerful badass witch you can become, even tho you dont have magical parents.

- harrys "you must not lie" scar is also one of my favorites and i LOVE when people include it in fanfics. especially when there's a debate about the corrupt and twisted power of the ministry and crazy ideologies and harry just slams his hand on the table and starts ARGUING, leaving everyone silent lol

- harry having another lightning scar on his body, this time over his heart, when voldemort attempted to kill him the second time in the forest.

- draco covering up his deatheater tattoo, by putting flowers over/around it, to symbolize he'd grown.

- magical tattoos. tattoos that move around your body. harry having fr a tiny dragon tattoo, which 'flys' around his skin.

- harry beeing way more powerful after the war. i mean, he's the master of death after all??? he took down the most powerful wizard of all time??? now he has a crazy magical aura around him. he can cast wandless magical more effortlessly. when he gets angry, he lets out accidental magic, messing with electricity, the wind etc.

- harry renovating the black house. him finally getting rid of walpurgas portrait and the other gruesome decoration. draco helping him, bc he's a black afterall and knows a few tricks and spells. also draco and harry researching and explaining magical houses. kreacher is helping them too. the black house getting warm and cozy, after all those years.

- draco and harry getting together and harry is showing him the perks of the muggle world. draco discovering television, electricity, planes, science in general (later smartphones, video games etc). him being FASCINATED about it, wanting to learn more and more. (what do you MEAN, muggles were ON THE MOON??? THEY CAN TRAVEL IN SPACE??? WTF POTTER?!) draco discovering what an atomic bomb is, having an existencial crisis about it (i can't believe muggles have more power than US? could we even STOP a bomb like this? surely you can , Potter 🙄)

- draco dragging his slytherin friends into the muggleworld.

- pansy being EXCITED to discover luxury brand like gucci, prada n shit. her wanting to study fashion and becoming a famous designer in the wizarding AND muggle world (muggles being like HAVE YOU SEEN PANSYS NEW DRESS?! IT LOOKS LIKE MAGIC FR)

- ginny becoming a famous quidditch star, always showing up at parties with the finest haute couture, showing off and promoting pansys newest designs (pansy loves her for it)

- blaise getting caught up too into the fashion/celebrity/influencer/gossip world. maybe becoming a famous art critique? or a journalist? him exposing people he dosnt like? love that shit fr

- goyle being fascinated about muggle sports, especially rugby and american football. him dragging draco, harry and ron into various matches and talking non stop about his favorite teams and players. harry finally convincing him to just do it himself. goyle actually doing it and having the time of his life.

- goyle dragging drarry to his first victory party with his teammates. harry, to his HORROR, seeing dudley again after all those years (what do you MEAN HARRY, BIG D IS YOUR COUSIN?!?)

- harry and dudley reconciling. i have many thoughts about this, but i really love the idea of a redemption arc for dudley. maybe dudley having a daughter, who is also a witch and him loving her with his whole heart and wanting to understand every problem and struggle she might face in the wizarding world. him cutting of contact with his father. visiting harry, notebook in hand, to remember every detail.

- Hermione becoming the minister of magic. FINALLY a competent witch, someone who's trying to make the world a better place (also harry backing her up, intimidating everyone who dares to be a bitch about it). a few things i think she would do:

- setting the elves free for real, giving them free healthcare, new jobs, an access to schools, housing etc. telling them about dobby and his story

- also, more freedom and rights for other magical beings, like merefolk, centaurs, goblins, giants and WEREWOLVES!!!

- giving elves and goblins wands???!!!

- a new school system where muggle studies is a MUST, bc how can you teach kids and NOT tell them of the rest of the non-magic world??? do they even know electricity? planes? science? how can you get rid of hate and stereotypes otherwise?

- teaching kids and adults how to dress in the muggle world lmao

- the more the people learn about science and shit, the more they could experiment? imagine a world where potions and chemistry would go hand-in-hand. wizards discovering what molecules and atoms are and researching like crazy. them learning how to incorporate technology with magic. (free wifi at hogwarts???) a fascinating concept for me.

- rita skeeter and dolores umbridge getting finally behind bars. I WANT JUSTICE

- Harry being an auror is cool, but after all he's been through, i can imagine he wouldnt want to be one for long. i think it would be so nice to become a teacher at hogwarts. defence against the dark powers would suit him sm. also, he could teach students something about unity, wizard and muggle relations, how to detect bigotry and propaganda, how to stand up for themselves etc

- draco becoming either a healer at st. mundos or a professor at hogwarts

- mcgonagall working hand-in-hand as head master with hermione, making hogwarts SAFE again

- draco having his trial after the battle of hogwarts. him being exhausted, ashamed, traumatized af. him not expecting and not wanting any mercy. the ministry also not wanting any mercy, bc fuck them deatheaters. them being astounded after harry waltzed into the court room, explaining that he, harry potter, will be dracos lawyer and DEMANDING him to be freed (who can say no to the savior)

- harry and his gang having fucking therapy after the war, please and thank you

- harry finally recognizing all the fucked up shit dumbledore has done to him and being ANGRY about it

I've written so much fluff so I'm just going to plug relationship advice (Miraculous Ladybug) (written for @nemaliwrites actually haha) because I think it has enough stakes for the ending to count as truly happy instead of just. fluff all the way through. (though it is pretty fluffy)

yeah. i wrote aged up characters once and got called disgusting like ok thanks you're the one who took the time to click on it and leave a comment. but ok. i also was told very rudely that sirius was ooc in a fic for not being fanon sirius. again: ok. read the books.

I do, pretty often, actually. I've written F/M, F/F, M/M, F/M/M. I'll be posting some F/F/M soonish too.

I can't pick. Some evergreen ships: Katniss/Peeta (THG), Remus/Lily (HP), Drarry (HP), Hyacinth/Gareth (Bridgerton).

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

i mean the entirety of the cat café universe is probably not being touched again. uh. beyond that? not one for being let down (Harry Potter - J. K. Rowling) - I should probably just put an epilogue on it and call it done a matter of diplomacy (Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis) - I really do like this one, but my brain is just not giving me many more ideas for it.

I did it before bc I was a pretentious ass and continue it in Ravenclaw AU for consistency's sake, but I probably wouldn't do it again, unless it was a language I spoke fluently (so French or German) and didn't want my POV character to understand, and even then... eh.

Harry Potter, officially, but I wrote out some Halloweentown fanfiction in 3rd grade and submitted it for an assignment, so does that count?

okay there’s these guys on YouTube called super Carlin brothers (or scb) and they’re brothers (woahhh such a surprise) and they make theory videos (among other things but theories is there main thing) on Disney, Pixar, Harry Potter, Marvel, Star Wars, and Name of the Wind. And I’ve watched almost all of their videos and every single one of them is basically canon to me at this point

but there’s this one series they did a couple months back, What If Harry Potter was in Slytherin?, and it’s my favourite thing ever. it’s new canon in my mind basically.

(other than the fact that they ship harmione so for some reason they decided that Harry being in slytherin means Harry then gets with Hermione. And then to make up for it, Ron gets with Luna, for some reason. And near the end they couldn’t figure out who ginny would’ve ended up with, and they brainstormed putting her with Draco. So basically they took my three favourite ships and pulled them apart and mixed them around and I don’t appreciate it)

Anyway, they accidentally put so much drarry in it it’s outrageous, and I’ve written many rambles in my notes about the Drarryness in the series but have had no one to share it with cos no one would have a clue what I’m talking about cos it’s not canon (it appears the tumblr scb fandom is non existent which is just so great) and I’ve created fictional stories within their fictional version of a fictional universe but I have no one to share it with other than my one friend and I want to share it with heaps of people but I can’t cos, lemme say it one more time, no one would have a clue what I’m talking about

But yeah. Scb are great and they support the lgbtq+ community, but they never actually put the queer rep into their videos which sucks, cos it’s so clearly t h e r e but they don’t acknowledge it, and cMON J AND BEN HARRY AND HERMIONE ARE BASICALLY SIBLINGS SO SHIPPING THEM IS INCEST (no hate to harmione shippers I think you’re very nice I just personally (along with everyone I’ve spoken to) think they’re more like siblings and gosh men and women can be friends - and close friends at that - without it being romantic. I mean if you have some nice hard evidence for me and a calm tone, I will gladly have a good old fashioned friendly debate with you where we acknowledge each other’s thoughts and opinions without hating each other cos people argue too much, I am merely suggesting a friendly debate where we hear each other out and take the time to understand each other as human beings and to know that each other’s opinions aren’t completely illogical and not sprouting from misogyny or sexism or homophobia or anything like that. If you have reasons and I have reasons, I’d like to share mine and hear yours, without causing world war 3 because listening to others talk about something they’re passionate about is really interesting to me)

HP Rec Fest, Day 30

Here we come with more @hprecfest! Today I’m only reccing rare pairs since I couldn’t think of any pre-canon Drarry fics 🤔 I wonder if canon divergent / canon rewrite applies?? I don’t read them often either way, so I figured this would be a good opportunity to boost lesser known fics. I think this is my favorite rec post for the fest so far - there’s something so poetic in reccing these two specific fics alongside each other since Little Compton Street verse was my first (unforgettable, devastating) contact with Prongsfoot and 5 years later here I am reading them again - this time welcoming the pain. More embarrassing emosh blabbing below!

Day 30) a pre-canon fic:

empire builders by shecrows (James/Sirius, E, 25k)

Say, James, he rehearses in his head. Remember that time we were both roaring drunk at the end of term, and you put your cock in my mouth, and I came so hard I still get tingly thinking about it? Was that just a one off, d’you think, or did you want to do it again sometime?

Prongsfoot my beloved 😭😭😭 sometimes I feel like I’ll never feel as strongly about a ship as I feel for them which sounds so crazy because I don’t even read it! or, well. after being utterly ruined by Winter of ‘79 (curiously a fic within LCS verse as mentioned below) I promised myself I wouldn’t look for this ship anymore bc the inevitable tragedy of it depressed me way too much. I locked them away in a secret space deep within my heart and only allowed myself to re-awaken those feelings this year, with the brilliant empire builders. what a fic! a few lines in and I was hooked and completely obsessed with Sirius’ unbelievably spot on voice, the peak friends to lovers dynamics, and the unbearable sexual tension mixing guilt and devotion (my favorite shippy combo btw). fuck, they are so young and so lovable, and so attuned to each other it makes me wanna cry. never before a 25k fic has felt so short, I’ve read it in a frenzy and couldn’t stop thinking about their love for days. the best word to describe my state after this fic is “tormented” which might as well be the best compliment I’ve ever given in a rec.

Play Me Like A Love Song by @writcraft (Minerva/Will, E, 67k)

Minerva McGonagall doesn’t believe in love at first sight, which is why her instant attraction to drag king Wilhelmina ("Will") Grubbly-Plank is so unexpected. War tears apart the wizarding world and as one battle ends Minerva and Will must fight once more, this time for the lives of their friends on Little Compton Street. A love story spanning five decades defined by music, laughter and tears, in which love is not always easy, but it’s always worth fighting for.

truly a masterpiece of lesbian fiction, this fic is more like a religious experience, bold, brutally honest, romantic, eye-opening and necessary. I never thought I’d care so much for a ship like Will & Minerva but they worked their way inside my heart and I’m deeply moved by how their story encompasses everything that’s inherent to the queer experience: love, loss, resistance and hope. there’s so much joy and grief walking hand by hand, and it is our privilege to watch the characters mature and experience life as individuals and as a couple. Writ crafts oh so thoughtfully two stunning character studies (Minerva’s voice omg, please don’t @ me on my competence kink) while taking us by the hand into the magical universe of Little Compton Street, which is so completely irresistible and healing. I adore the atmosphere, the imagery, the soundtrack, and how this seductive setting allows them to explore their queerness in such a free, proud and joyful way *getting emosh* I feel like nothing I add here will make this story justice, it’s such a poignant and transformative fic but sadly deeply underrated like it happens to so many wlw tales. I hope this rec inspires at least one person to check it out and while at it please also check the entire series with a Drarry piece and a Prongsfoot piece, a perfect trifecta!

The more differences that add to an unequal power dynamic, the better lol. But i've never specifically looked for fics with an age gap, they just tend to come with the kind of fic where the unequal distribution of power within the ship is the point... I wouldn't click on a fic bc of the age gap tag if that wasn't the point, though.

Codependency: 7/10

I love it when characters are fucked up lol. But i wouldn't want this in a fic that's not about that kind of fucked-upness and toxicity, you know? It’s not cute and I wouldn't want it in e.g. a romantic Barris fic. But it can be excellent in fic about toxic relationships.

I like one-party dependency better than codependency.

Enemies to lovers: 10/10

I started as a Drarry shipper so this is much of what I read for the first couple of years of my fandom life lol. It’s exceedingly delicious to me, so many confliction emotions and characters being in pain from both going back and forth about what they are to each other lol.

Enemies With Benefits: 8/10

I remember having read hate sex fic only once tbh by an incredible writer, so maybe that's also why it was so good, but I wanted so much more of it.

Fake Dating/Relationship: 10/10

This is the good shit! The more pining the better. This is one of my most read tropes.

Found Family: -10/10

I could be into it if they were toxic and/or dysfunctional, but fandom always makes sure to write it in the most off-putting way achievable, where everyone is super sweet and super good at communication and extremely open emotionally and they all cuddle together and have movie nights and shit, and everyone is always completely ooc and a weird stepford wife cardboard cut-out, and it all makes me viscerally uncomfortable. So no I will not be clicking on a fic with this tag. The only exception is Barris fic from people whose writing skills and understanding of the characters I trust/agree with enough that I believe they've not made it disgusting like fandom typically does.

Friends To Lovers: 0/10

Idk, I feel like this is something i don’t notice, because it’s just... a lot of fic, isn't it? I don't think most people even tag it? It doesn't seem particularly interesting nor in any way off putting.

Friends With Benefits: 8/10

Ah yes, the accidental catching of feelings. I do love pining. But I've never seeked out this tag. May i also present fwb where one party actually doesn't have feelings for the other but knows about their feelings, thus essentially using them for sex? There’s a sterek fic where stiles magically exchanges away his feelings for Derek bcz he thinks Derek's never gonna love him, and after they keep having sex with stiles no longer caring about hurting derek and it’s SO GOOD. There’s also one (one of my all time fave fics ever) where stiles is dying or thought to be dying, and he just doesn't want to die a virgin, which derek knows but is ofc in love with stiles and hopes it meant something more, but it didn't, and it's so fucking good.

Hurt/Comfort: 10/10

Does the backbone of fandom even need explanation? It’s the best. I'll take both physical and emotional h/c!

Love Triangle: nope/10

I'm sick of this in shows, I don't want it in fic too. And I'm a monoshipper to the core, I doubt I'd get any enjoyment out of this.

Mistaken/Hidden Identity: 0/10

I'm not sure I've read this.

Monster Fu… Relationship: ?/10

Depends on the monster! Tentacles? Boring, I never understood the tentacle thing. Same with succubi/incubi. Werewolves, though? Hell yes, 10/10. Especially if said werewolf has a knot 👀

Obsession, Possessiveness, etc: 10/10

I'm a helpless sucker for this lol. I'll take both mild possessiveness that can still be considered sweet (and yes I know it’s fucked up irl but you know, fiction) and the very toxic kind, but obviously which one works for me depends on the ship.

Opposites (like grumpy×sunshine, etc): -10/10

I hate the grumpy x sunshine trope with a passion. It's sure to flatten any character into a 2D cardboard cut-out. No one is either/or, where's the fucking nuance. I do like it though when they seem dissimilar on the surface but actually have a lot in common. But I don't think I've seen this as an ao3 tag, anyway?

Poly: -10/10

I'm a monoshipper. I tried to read a sterek poly ship once and actually felt like i was cheating on sterek lol. Yes it’s ridiculous, but i couldn't do it lol. The funny thing is i was in a poly ship for 5 years irl, so you'd think this would be jam!

I can, however, read smut fics where the third party is there for the shag.

Pregnancy: ?/10

Regular preg? Fuck no. Angsty mpreg where the pregnancy makes things a lot harder? Yes. Omegaverse mpreg where omegas have limited or no human rights? Fuck yes x 100 000 000

Second Chance: ?/10

I guess? Depends on the context. Thomas and Richard missing their first chance when they met during a London season when they were both footmen, and meeting again in -27? Would read.

Sex To Feelings: 8/10

Is this fwb without the friends aspect? Just benefits? Lol. But it sounds good, I'm a sucker for pining.

Slowburn: 10/10

Fuck yes, but only if it's REAL slowburn, as in like a 100k, none of that 4k "slowburn", thanks. I'm a huge sucker for pining, and all the little moments - held breaths, heart jumping bcz of accidental hand touching, and FINALLY The Long Anticipated Kiss tens of thousands of words in? Fuck yes. On the condition, ofc, that it makes sense, but I will take both thinking "he won’t ever love me" as the reason lol.

Soulmates: ?/10

The traditional kind is too fluffy and too centered on just finding "the one" as if that solved all your problems, or as if that was your only problem or indeed mission in life, and I think the concept itself is ridiculous. If things were like that, just about no-one would meet their soulmate bcz there’re billions of people... i've read some out of curiosity, though, and i liked the one where the stiles' soulmark is around his butthole and derek's is at the base of his dick, and to join together as soulmates or something they have to join these marks together lol.

I do, however, like what I call biologically determined soulmates, as in like in omegaverse or werewolf AUs when their pheromones make them extremely attractive to one another (to the exclusion of others, and them just knowing this is it). The woo woo kind of soulmates is too fluffy and too woo woo, but "the most biologically compatible breeding partners" soulmates works for me for some reason, even if they can't have kids bc there’s no mpreg - that doesn’t stop same-sex attraction irl, so why would it in a world where one's partner is largely chosen by pheromones lol. So it depends on the kind we're talking about!

Everything (except the nopes and usually the minuses, too) ofc depends on the ship and all the other tags and the summary and the author, so in the end nearly everything is conditional lol.

- Three most controversial opinions: I really love the Bunker [look, we can talk about how the aesthetics did get kinda ruined and overly sanitized and how much we all miss the motels and how it could come in as a deux ex machina at times but it gave them a home and a place dean felt safe anough to wear a robe and silly pajamas I can’t not love it also the sheer possibilities like lets put a full olympic swimming pool and gigantic greenhouse and all sorts of cursed objects and cool rooms and books with wild lote in there who knows why not]; I think Destiel is unrequited (I kinda ping-pong back and forth on this one and it’s not always my opinion but it’s my most consistent reading and it seems similar to JA’s: Cas was in love with Dean, Dean loved Cas and that’s a tragic little difference); I don’t much care for Jack (Idk how to elaborate on this without writing a whole thesis and a billion disclaimers and I do not have that kind of energy so lets leave it at that)

- Three least favorite popular ships: Sabriel (never caught wind of any sparks there tbh) Samifer (his torturer? SALS ofc but I personally cannot get into it and don’t ship it) I’d include Dean Alastair in this for the same reason but idk if it’s AS popular in general fandom) and Megstiel (I don’t deny they were a thing/on the way to being a thing/had chemistry, and I have read fics where they’re together, they just aren’t the focus of my shipping energy, I suppose?) (Destiel is not on this although again I’m one of the few people that doesn’t actively ship them I still like them and can enjoy lots of things about the ship, they’re far, faaar from least favorites lol)

Least favorite os actually a though one bc while I hate some characters guts (John, most obvious villains) I tend to like them as characters? So I guess Lucifer? Three most controversial opinions: Kara had every right to hide her superhero identity (yes even from Lena and tbh specially from her) and did nothing wrong in regards to that; people are entirely too hard on Kara in a complete disproportionate way to some other characters; I LOVE love love Dansen and even prefer it to Sanvers.

Three least favorite popular ships: Supercorp and Kara x Winn (not as bad I just am neutral?) (I kinda blanked on other popular ships I dislike?)

Absolute favorite and least favorite character: Kara (although Nia is a close one) and Lena.
