Hi!! I just wanted to say that the way you draw characters/use colors in your art is an absolute dream, I've never seen anything prettier. Do you have a specific way you pick/use colors, or any advice for coloring? You inspire my art so much, and I'd love to learn how to color like you someday :)

aaaah thank you so much I'm really honoured to hear you both like it and that it inspires you anon !! ;v; I don't actually know much about art theory-wise, aside from very basic colour theory that I always forget so most of my choices are pretty instinctual and based on my own preferences!

i can do my best to explain my thought process though! uuh it is. lots of text though just as a warning.

one thing I tend to do with almost everything is pick what kind of colour mood I'm going for! usually, since I love orange and also warm feelings, I'll aim for some kind of warm tone and when doing that I try to slide every colour I pick towards the warm end of the colour wheel. Blacks and whites are especially good for this! As a general thing I almost fully avoid picking any colours along those edges of the colour picker

instead I'll move all my colour choices a nudge into the square for the colours towards the tone I want (in this case warm) (the white is there be warm too I just forgor to type it).

and since I wanted warm colours for this drawing I desaturated the blue of Brain's pants so it would fit in better. I once heard someone say you should always pick one main colour and saturate fully and the further away from it on the colour wheel you got, the more desaturated your colours should be. I don't really do that bc I like my colours to stay bright but I do keep it in mind to mess around with sometimes.

I'm not always great at keeping this consistent, but I think it usually makes for pretty decent results... Other things I keep in mind are that when I pick the colour for my shadows I always make a little slide on the colour wheel towards the opposite tone of what I based my main colours on. oh and picking the right base colours ?? no clue tbh I always put every colour on it's own layer and then I spend a couple minutes adjusting them all seperately until I feel like they go well enough together. I usually avoid the bottom to right section of the square fully, bc I find they often get oversaturated and muddy, but that's just a personal preference I guess.

also since I enjoy the way coloured lineart works for my stuff I tend to mess around with layer settings for my lineart! usually the end results will look something like this:

where the clipped layer is clipped on to my colours folder. lineart is the only place where I just use plain black since I'm gonna change it with these layer settings later. it often still shows up as black for darker colours (and especially blues?) but it keeps a slightly coloured edge that I enjoy. if the blacks of the end result don't look good, messing around with the layer opacity usually changes stuff up. sometimes I'll also erase part of the lineart from one of the layers as a way to adjust.

I think what might be more relevant though, is the way I've been picking my colours for most of my recent posts though, which is. very differently. and also quite dependant on the fact I've been drawing on Tegaki! Tegaki has a limited colour palette that looks like this

only the 6 colour slots next to the bottom greyscale can be replaced by your own colours. As shown here I only bothered to add something to half of them; mainly the beige-ish colour I like to use for whites, a brown that I never use bc it's ugly with everything else here and a purple? that I only Think I added. both the brown and purple suffer from being too desaturated for the rest of the palette, which makes them stand out in a pretty bad way when used tbh.

I have. absolutely no idea what I'm doing with colours on this site though ngl. I think it just automatically pushes you to be a little more chaotic with the choices? a simple example is the green I picked for Link's tunic here doesn't really have any good, easy choice for shading imo. most of the "darker" green tones just feel more saturated, and it sticks out pretty bad as a shading colour for the more muted green I picked for the tunic. Removing those, the choice was either a mossy green or a blue.

and while the mossy green is still green, it feels far too dark a shading colour compared to what I picked as shading for the rest of the drawing. The blue has the added bonus of being closer to the purple I used for the black-ish parts.

I think my point is that it's really easy to push yourself to make some fun new choices when the tools you're using limit you a bit in a way? Looking at it now, I'm also seeing that the hands were lined with very different colours. I remember just thinking that I couldn't be bothered to find the exact same purple I used for the first hand so I just went with the first thing I landed on, that being a pink. But now I think it works pretty well since the one hand is lifted a bit more into the light and that goes well for a bright colour like pink. happy accidents and all that right ?

I am fully just yapping at this point 🧍 but the point still goes for most things drawn on this site.

like there was no reason to add the blues or reds or pinks to the heather here but I only had so many purple shades to work with. it might be less realistic but I don't think it would've come out as well if I had stuck to only the purple shades from my reference photo.

This ended up way way too long and I have no idea if any of it made sense or was helpful at all, but it was surprisingly fun to reflect on my own choices a bit more! especially since I often just do whatever I feel like I think it's helpful to sit back and consider what instinct actually tells me it's the right thing to do.

in an attempt to do something actually helpful uuh I recommend messing around with 2 specific things and switching around with them a bit; namely limited colour palettes (like 1 or 2 main tones imo) and then just going absolutely ham and just using whatever colour for everything (make them orange! put some blue and purple on the bark! leaves can be blue if they want to! (go more ham than I did tbh))

I think just messing around does so much for making some kind of sense of colours even without Knowing how they work. it's easy to say we should all study, but personally I'm pretty bad at it and it's more fun to just trial and error it... errors do happen a lot though omg do they happen, but that's helpful for figuring stuff out too!

Heathcliff stabbing himself as an act of showing his love to Catherine is also interesting because Dongbaek's reason for stabbing Yi Sang could also be interpreted as being a form of love, but...marred with heartbreak and hatred and resentment for what happened to the League like in the original Wuthering Heights [edit cuz I forgor: this is something amplified by the fact that when she stabs Yi Sang she quotes the line from The Camellias where the protagonists fall in love together both physically and metaphorically], specially since she was so overwhelmed seeing him she went for him when she was going to initially attack Dongrang derailing her plans. How she talks about it when questioned adds to it too since she kind of justifies herself saying that Yi Sang wanted to die too and isn't spiteful like she is towards Dongrang even being calm seeing he was just fine despite her murder attempt (but also the fact that she was unphased by that still gets me. She's really got no sanity left), and she was correct in claiming Yi Sang was longing for death even if the moment left a big emotional scar on him, much like Heathcliff's heart was broken by Catherine and so he breaks it in a literal sense for her.

Honestly Demian is just Demian. He's a weird little guy and probably exists out of time or something tying to his star. It's probably for the same justification as to why Heathcliff and Dante remembered Cathy, and she's def not truly "gone" since they couldn't really erase the consequences of her actions and presence. Hindley and Linton are still dead because of her.

Ein MyStreet isn't a compelling villain to me.

Please note how I said ME in the title. This is just how I feel. You're entitled to your own opinions. Also this isn't the most professional analysis, I am just saying what's on my mind in the moment. Anyway, let's get into it.

OK so basically: Ein had a lot of potential. In the first half of season 1 he was a cute "bad" boy who just wanted to not be the Omega of the school whilst also having a crush on Aphmau. Then Aphmau made him Alpha Male and then he stopped being a character.

It's framed that everything he did with Aphmau was just a ploy to get the position of Alpha but like... He was so genuine so many times? He was blushing and all, he helped her out with the hair dye. He was a good boy who actually had a thing for Aph.

But ok, let's just ignore his characterization up until the twist because ooohhh he's actually really mean and manipulative. Maybe it's because of the power he now has after being bullied for so long but it's SUCH a jarring shift in character for him.

I guess Jessica wanted to make an actual Villain character since Gene and Balto weren't the most threatening and evil but like... They're in high school? They're not gonna be evil masterminds like what she was trying to do with Ein.

Gene and Balto were just bullies and that fit for PDH S1. Ein being evil is to shut down any romantic progression he would have with Aphmau since Kai got character assassinated and was a dick to her on a date (+ Ein's meddling)

All so that Aaron can come "save the day" and beat up Ein and save Aphmau from an evil man that she never figured out was evil. The most Evil things Ein did was pick an Omega without Aph and also ruin her date.

Ein didn't want to be the omega anymore since he was sick of being seen as weak and being bullied and ignored, and the teacher WANTED him to take that title willingly, even after everything he's gone through with it. And he KNOWS that Aph would try and convince him To take it on as well, so that's why he picked one by himself. And the date thing... Yeah idk why he did that maybe he was just jealous idk i forgor.

OH YEAH and he beat the shit out of Kasey so that Katelyn can have a reason to be racist towards werewolves when the Ultima Reveal. Completely forgot about that.

I honestly think PDH S2 had an interesting set up with the love triangle. Kai has Aaron's personality whilst Ein has Aaron's attitude. (Aph & Aaron's romance is awful but i'm just pointing out symbolism).

Ein was also racist towards Humans since he is a werewolf supremacist and he wanted to make Aphmau a werewolf so that she'd be perfect. Also werewolves are a minority that's discriminated against so this character trait is a bit uh... Yikes!

Also I just remembered this but Ein was working with Gene to get close to Aphmau and Gene wanted pictures of Aphmau for some fucking reason?? What was that about. We get no context on this other than 1 scene btw.

So the next time we see Ein is in Emerald Secret! Oh boy, I got some words.

So about 15 years pass since PDH S2 and everyone is an adult in their late 20s. What has Ein been doing in all that time? Obsessing over a girl he met in high school, researching heavily into a folk lore in order to turn her into a werewolf. Also he's been doing illegal potion making and used one of those potions to turn an actual wolf, human, so that he can be the alpha of her wolf pack.

Also he's working with the biggest bad of them all, Micheal! But we don't meet him until Season 6 or something. He also may or may not be mind controlling Ein during Emerald Secret we don't know.

So what else does Ein do this season now that he's the big bad again? Other than the wolf thing, he also brainwashes Aphmau's friends into thinking he's their brother, makes Aphmau obey his every word and love him whilst also despising Aaron.

And makes her attempt to kill Aaron. Despite the fact that he needs Aaron to turn her into a werewolf first, after he denies when he's asked, Ein was like "Ok well. Aph kill him lmao."

He also "dies" in the end by getting mauled by the pack of wolves he made himself Alpha of.

I don't think it takes that much brainpower to see why this is an awful twist (he was also a twist villain btw we didn't know it was him until midway). His motivation is stupid, why are you still obsessed with some girl from high school, you're 28.

Why does he even still have those pictures of her in high school? Like if you're gonna be obsessed with her, at least stalk her so you can get the modern update???

Also, his werewolf supremacy is played up big time here to the point it makes you question why he wasn't obsessing over Aaron like Xavier was. Maybe Jessica didn't wanna repeat motivation? But Ein & Xavier are very different characters, you could make it work.

He was just a mess of a villain once you think about his motivation for 2 seconds. And then he shows up in When Angels Fall!! This one is shorter I promise.

So in WAF Ein uses another illegal potion to make werewolves (who were in hiding since the Government is taking every single one of them and interrogating them because they might be some ancient folklore beast). And makes them all obey his every word and call him Alpha.

It's confirmed that after High School, werewolf packs and Alphas don't matter in the real world so it's weird that he was obsessed with it in Emerald Secret.

Anyway after that, he kidnaps Aphmau to hold Aaron ransom and when he gets his werewolf ears back (Aaron took them away in ES) he kills Aphmau because he was being mind controlled by Micheal.

And then Aaron and Ein fight on a bridge, Aaron kills his mind controlled friends, and then kills Ein. So let's talk about it.

the thing with this is that... It just shows that Ein COULD'VE been written well if he was mind controlled by Micheal with the illegal potions. Since Micheal had 100% access to Ein at any time and Ein played a major role in Micheal's plan to trauma trigger Aaron.

And honestly it would've made Ein a much more compelling character if he just... Didn't have control over his actions. One theme with the main group is that they decide what to do with their lives and how to move forward.

But that wouldn't apply to someone who was controlled, now, would it? And since we know that the person under the effects of a forever potion still have a conscious, and can see all the acts that they don't have control over, it would've made Ein a tragic villain.

And if he was mind controlled by Micheal during Emerald Secret it would explain why Ein was obessed with Aphmau despite it being so weird. Because guess what, Ein & Aphmau are half siblings! So that re-contextualizes every interaction they ever had.

I think that Ein should've had an actual character instead of being a cartoon villain like Micheal was. Ein is the only character to have so much DIRECT action towards the main cast. Why would you make him so messy and one dimensional?

And the whole Mind Control thing is something that can be easily done. Ein uses forever potions to make people Obey Him, and since Micheal doesn't have enough power to mind control Ein 24/7, him using a potion like that on Ein would make so much sense.

Since Ein is shown to be decent at potion making and magic by the time we meet him. Micheal is the only one who could've taught him all of that. And the thing is: IT'S CANNON ONLY IN WAH. They met before ES but it's left so vague on what their relationship was that you could say Ein did everything in Emerald Secret by his own volition and you'd be right since nothing is confirmed.

If Jessica wanted to make this a serious story, WHY WOULD YOU STOP AT THE MOST RELEVANT VILLAIN??? He's literally related to Aphmau and was apart of the experimentation in some way but we don't know because he's not a character enough for him to be lore relevant other than him being a plot device. I'm so upset on the way Jessica wrote him since he could've been so much more than he actually was.

I wanna add something: The mind controlled by Micheal thing is only one possibility with his character. You can do a whole lot of other things. The reason why I focused on the mind-control thing is that it's an easy cop-out Jessica could do in order to make Ein an actual character.

Jessica isn't the best writer and loves tropes & cop-outs so it very well could've been done in story. But instead she let Ein be vague as hell and also tying him so closely into the lore.

I just want Ein to be a coherent character with understandable motivations behind his actions. There is no excuse for him to be this important and yet so messily written.

And now he's dead. RIP Ein MyStreet. You could've been one of the greatest.

Heh, well, (this also extends towards what I want to see in the arc as a whole, as TEQ is the first book of arc 9 and for the love of god can there please be some meaningful change ever after an arc ends that'd be great)

1. That one territory change tease everyone's talking about

I. Don't like the lake territories. If they're gonna move (and it's. Heavily implied they will (then again the books do have a track record in underwhelming and dissapointing everyone in increasingly ridiculous ways)) because the uhhhh I dunno moonpool is dying or whatever I honestly don't care for the reason as long as they can fucking move already

Originally, the Clans resided in the so-called forest territories, during the first arc, half of the second arc, and every single prequel. The second arc involved it getting destroyed, and the Clans had to Move and that's how they arrived at the lake territories. "Wait but doesn't that mean they're gonna reuse this same plot the second time why does anyone want this" because the lake territories kinda suck lol

Like. I liked the forest territories they worked well. Ok hold on look at this thing

Color coded all Clan territories, everything else is either a communal/sacred/unclaimed ground. Can you notice something about it. All the Clan's borders touch somewhat, they all are next to and have access to each other and can just walk anywhere.

RiverClan's and WindClan's borders touch even if they are separated by a river, RiverClan can always just swim through it so they can attack them like they did many times then. WindClan and ShadowClan are separated by a road but can just pass it and duke it out on either side, they are explicitly said to be enemies for an extremely long time. ShadowClan and ThunderClan, again, are separated by a road, but ThunderClan can literally walk over it and ShadowClan has a whole secret passage below it which is how they've been assaulting each other so efficiently. ThunderClan and RiverClan have history going to war with each other over those rocks which they both can easily access just like the rest of their borders, TC cats don't even have to swim through the river they even got a convenient little bridge nearby. ThunderClan also shares a border with WindClan, they can easily just step over it to either aid or fight them. ShadowClan and RiverClan look like they might not be able to access each other, which yeah it is a bit harder which is why I think it's been noted they aren't as hostile with each other, however, again, all they have to do in order to be able to access them is to 1) walk over the road 2) walk through fourtrees in either order and that's literally what happens. First ShadowClan hunted in their river that way, and then they literally united to form TigerClan.

Like. All of them can interact with minimal problem. There is no physical barrier that's actually separating them aside from the law.

Not to mention that it just. Feels like a place that exists and has history. Biggest example being the sunningrocks, which ThunderClan and RiverClan both fought over, it's so disputed even the fandom is arguing over who it actually belongs to. There's the owl tree, the great sycamore, snakerocks, sandy hollow, tallpines, that are distinct pieces of TC territory even without any fights happening there. (I. Actually got no idea whether the books say the treecut place is TC territory or part of the twolegplace). ShadowClan has the carrionplace and the burnt sycamore, WindClan has the outlook rock and the gorge on the border with RiverClan, which has an island, a barn nearby, stepping stones, probably something else I forgot. Red marker is like, notable areas where battles took place I kinda forgor for this one also there were some missing from the wiki I feel like there's not enough of them there sowwy

Basically there are Places. I know, that's fucking huge right,

Ok now let's see. The lake territories.

Okay I will refrain from talking about the Huge Fucking Lake In The Middle yet. First, the borders are fucking confusing and literally change and switch around in supplementary material set inbetween the arcs. I do not know how much territory SkyClan has the only thing we know about it is that their camp is inbetween ShC and TC borders. It used to be more comprehensible to me because actually at first they were positioned directly in-between ShC and TC however one arc they just randomly fucking changed locations with no explanation aside from a paragraph saying FIND OUT WHY SKYCLAN MOVED THE FUCKING CAMP IN OUR NEW SUPPLEMENTARY MATERIAL SUPER EDITION COMING OUT NEXT YEAR I fucking hate it here also that book sucked balls

The borders are hardly defined and RiverClan cats randomly teleport in ThunderClan territory despite the fact that in order to access it, the shortest possible path - which STILL would be ridiculously long for these cats to just walk continuously - they could take is to walk the whole way across ShadowClan territory first, because of THE HUGE FUCKING LAKE IN THE MIDDLE

Fuck the lake I am the lake's biggest hater. I hate that fuckass body of water. So you know how all of the Clans could easily interact back at the forest territories??? Well too bad because now that's been thrown out the window thanks to the Huge Fucking Lake In The Middle blocking off literally all of them .

Prior to the arrival of SkyClan, the Clans now only had two neighbors whose territory they could access as opposed to back in the forest territories they had three, aka all of the remaining ones. ThunderClan and RiverClan literally cannot interact anymore. ShadowClan and WindClan are blocked off from each other completely. Because of the Huge Fucking Lake In The Middle that makes it impossible now.

It also doesn't fucking make sense for convenience's sake regarding the main two communal grounds, the holy place aka moonpool, and the gathering area aka the island. In order to access the island and go to the gathering every month, literally every single Clan besides RiverClan has to go through a whole fucking life-changing journey that also requires them to walk directly through RiverClan in order to get to the fucking island, rip to ThunderClan I guess but they just have to walk over the entire half of This Huge Fucking Lake In The Middle every time they want to go to a gathering that's just never overly elaborated on. Oh and the moonpool. Only ThunderClan and WindClan have easy access to it, if you are from literally any other Clan you're gonna have to walk through BOTH TC's/WC's entire fucking territory and half of the entire Huge Fucking Lake That's In The Middle. And the medcats have to do this shit TWICE a month. It's also never elaborated on much either because why the fuck

Of course, the Huge Fucking Lake In The Middle massively limits the amount of fights that these "warrior" cats can get into because now they can apparently only have conflict with two Clans at a time. So, where are the current lake territory then? Nowhere apparently.

There are.... No disputed areas like sunningrocks anymore. I mean, the clearing could be kind of considered one, but also not really, because they fought over it literally Once and then never again also it was originally just gifted to ShC by TC. ThunderClan and WindClan used to fight a lot at first, but it's mostly because Onestar was mad at them, and not because they wanted any particular land from each other.

There were some notable fights though! And literally all of them except for one involved ThunderClan. Well there was the aforementioned one (1) ShadowClan-ThunderClan battle at the clearing. There was also a ThunderClan-WindClan by the tunnels on TC territory. There was also a....... *squints* an all four-Clan wide battle on ThunderClan territory? What the fuck did Onestar pay RiverClan in to make them walk all the. Nevermind. Whatever I'm fine I'm fine.

Warrior cats from the books called "Warriors" known as the books where cats fucking fight, don't even fight each other like they used to. Back in my time they were all dying in wars every week now they think that war is "bad" now apparently and will not do it anymore. Because of woke

The lake territories are also just............ Boring. Like, in the original forest territories I could list so many of their landmarks meanwhile the lake is just completely devoid of any of that. The only thing that belongs to any Clan that I remember being even remotely interesting and relevant at all were the tunnels under ThunderClan and WindClan, and we don't see them any more since the fourth arc ended. Oh and there's also the abandoned twoleg den in TC that Jayfeather uses as a garden to grow his little weed in. And uhhh.... That's it that's literally it nothing else matters I can't fucking rember

It's legitimately such a downgrade from the forest territories. Everyone in the fandom pretty much prefers the forest territories because shit fucking happened in them. So yeah I'm fine if they reuse the moving plot in this one. I want them to go settle in some new hopefully more interesting and easily accessible by all Clans place please can we do that. Can we just start over. Throw out the whole lake please . Also the whole moving plot would also be good because then during the journey all the Clans would be forced to interact with each other more lmao

2. Possible mass death event that's kinda teased by the Mystery Sickness

I cheered and clapped when the SkyClan cats started getting terribly sick and it was revealed that shit was contagious when I was reading the preview. Yessss babes go spread that shit around!!!! Especially to ThunderClan!!!!!! Kill everybody!!!!

The Clans (ESPECIALLY THUNDERCLAN) are fucking overpopulated with background nobodies that just take up space in the allegiances. Hold on let me bring out the numbers.

In the first book of the first arc, and the first one in the series, ThunderClan had 31 cats, counting Rosetail and the unnamed kits. Pretty reasonable size for a Clan I'd say.

In the first book of the third arc, ThunderClan now had 34 cats. Most of them got some reasonable amounts of focus during the story so at no point did I feel like anyone was really "taking up space". The Clans in total then, all had 79 cats combined, going off of the allegiances list.

Currently? ThunderClan has 52 cats. That's a fucking LOT. And half of them have no relevance whatsoever and only exist to just Be there in the background.

RiverClan has 24 cats. WindClan has 30 cats. ShadowClan has 36 cats. SkyClan has 38 cats.

Combined? That's 180 motherfucking cats.

Please literally kill of at LEAST a half of them I'm begging yall. The cast is too fucking big and literally no one is getting any development or relevance or relationships because of that unless they're the main character. Warrior cats don't die like they used to anymore .

We know about legend (and battery but shes not at the same level legend is if i remember correctly). it was KIND OF IMPLIED???? that eidolon might be too??????? what the fuck were they talking about injections with him. sus. and if 2/3 are cauldron capes. why would alexandria be any different. what the FUCK the implications of this are insane. 3) they have also created VILLAINS. and while they say they actively discourage it, they also admit that they cant exactly stop it from happening. and also tjeyre proven liars. they specifically told battery to let siberian and shatterbird escape. siberian's creator/real body/whatever the hell he is to her had the cauldron brand. which leads me to think that shatterbird is probably a cauldron cape too. trying to cover their tracks???? pretty disastrous if two of the SLAUGHTERHOUSE NINE show up with identical tattoos that can be traced back to the shadowy underground organization that also created some of the most revered heroes. thats a fucking timebomb waiting to happen.
