i know not all of these things will work for some people but here are some things i do, or plan on doing, that i think could be helpful :3

~ Draw them or, even better, draw yourself or your s/i with them

~ Think about what they smell like (whether canon or what you believe) and purchase perfumes or candles that smell like them

~ Make or buy their favourite food or food you think they would enjoy (if you also enjoy it)

~ Create a playlist that reminds you of them, or with music that you think they would enjoy

~ What is their comfort clothing item? Perhaps you could find or buy that for yourself to keep a part of them with you, and experience borrowing/wearing their clothes

~ Make a pinterest board for them, with pictures of them or things that remind you of them

~ Watch movies, shows, documentaries or videos that you think they would enjoy (if you also enjoy it)

~ Does a plushie or keychain exist of your f/o that you could buy, if not, maybe you could make one? It would be fun to have a mini version of your f/o that you could carry around with you!

~ You could make or buy bracelets/necklaces with your f/o's name or colours or gems that remind you of them

~ Write about them! Whether its fanfiction or simply just writing how you feel about them, it could be a stress-relieving activity

i had a good time thinking of these and definitely plan to eventually do the things i haven't yet done on this list, i hope some of these ideas are helpful and fun for you too! <3

Some Tang Sanzang concept art that I don’t think I’ll finish anytime soon, but whateva

The scar on his head is from a spat with wukong gone wrong, spur of the moment which he regretted after he realized what he had done-

he waited for his sifu to use the fillet tightening sultra to punish him, he’s shaking, apologizing profusely in a small voice. To his surprise he doesn’t feel the painstaking ache of the band squeezing. Instead, when he looks up he finds Tripitaka, his sifu, looking at him with a horrified look on his face. But…. He’s not scared of wukong… he’s scared of himself, if he could cause such a reaction in this godly simian, a demon that the heavens feared, then…what he had been doing…it wasn’t right, it couldn’t be.

-Lololol that’s my head canon/ my own home brew story of Jttw that I’ve been making in my mind, I like to imagine that’s the point where they’re relationship starts to turn for the better and instead of reluctant companions they become friends who wish to protect each other in every way, no matter the cost. They are representative of the mind and the heart, like in most cases they clash and argue, resent and fear each other, but when finding balance and harmony throughout their journey the mind and heart grow closer and work as one. They’re relationship to me is something more than friendship, it’s love but not romantic love, but it’s also not familial love like a father and son, though some translations of the book describe their relationship as such I’d like to think of it as something deeper. Again not romantic kissy love. These babes are Buddhists lololol but it is more than friendship. I might post my version of the story on here and you can interpret as you please, father son, a couple, friends, enemies. But know that in the end what him and sun wukong have is complex, it can not be summed up in one word. At least that’s my take on them,

Also the other scars are from demons, getting captured and such, the scar between his eyebrows he got as a baby, and the read on his wrists are from rope burn, again from being tied up and captured.

I like to see the monk as having a fit build despite acting and appearing weak, though he does not know what to do with this rocking bod he has. (This drawing was inspired by gidget… I loved their reference for their tang and decided I would make my own concept sheet depicting his scars and body type as well.)

I want to start posting my dynamic stuff on here and actually drawing my Jttw ideas… I just get really perfectionist about them and end up only liking the art after a year goes by and it’s too late to post them….

Some thoughts on Act 3 cutscene, endings and the line “To know you love me for the man I am"

[ Gale romance spoiler all the way to the epilogue ]

In my vanilla playthrough, the particular act 3 cutscene dialogue which Gale wanted the crown caught me off guard. It was one of the rare bg3 moments that stirred complicated feelings within me. (to a point I was considering maybe I should romance Emperor lmao) The structure of his proposal felt thoroughly planned and scripted. Every question I raised was met with a well prepared answer.

Too ambitious? It's not for myself; it's for us, for the greater good. Too dangerous? What have we done that wasn't risky? We're up to the task! Power corrupts? Just a means to an end. I’ll still be me, just an improved version. Now I only need a kiss.

I viewed it from the perspective of him hard-selling the player a difficult decision, and the entire conversation felt strategic. Topping it off with the famous line, “With you, I forget my goddess. I love you.” Such a powerful, attention-grabbing statement delivered with utmost sincerity. It's likely that the player would remember only this line, also making it more difficult to reject him. While I don't doubt his love for them, his motives were a question to me.

One of the things that makes Gale's darker path unique is that everything looks beautiful—voyage through the galaxy, kissing lovers, his voice, so tender and sincere. There's no eerie light, no violence, no bloodshed.

Some thoughts on his true intention and how insecurity is the must-solve in Gale's romance arc

In my opinion Gale’s main emotional knot in relationship is the insecurities he harbors. He holds a logic that he is loved (or tolerated) because of his power. Gale Dekarios wanted to be seen and loved but he "holds a poor figure next to Gale of Waterdeep". While there are exceptions like Tara, his mother, and perhaps Elminster, who love him for who he is; it's not his default to believe that people would appreciate him without his power/achievement/service.

With that in mind and let's circle back to why he wants godhood.

If the player reject him in the boat scene, his instant reaction is: “But I could be so much more to you.” If they reject godGale: “I achieved everything we hoped I would, and still I'm not good enough for you?” –Not a word about the better world. I wasn’t convinced he wanted the godhood “for the betterment of all”.

Instead, what he truly wants is the player’s heart... and I think he believes that obtaining the crown and godhood can win them over. Awkwardly, he would need their help to get rid of the elder brain and he is trying hard to convince them.

Some argue that godGale quickly transforms into the type of passive deity he despised, but I hold my opinion on how deeply he cares about the world in the first place. True, he could sacrifice himself to save the day, but he always says "it's the right way/fate" with nothing empathetic for the general folks. I am suspicious that he says it to dismiss the player's concern.

A bit of addition to this theory. Seeking godhood is not a new ambition for him, according to Elminster's epilogue letter. In my canon, he desired it for Mystra if not for the player, attempting to draw closer to her as an equal.

Gale, the god of ambition

Ascending without resolving inner conflicts is like thrusting a dagger into redemption Durge's hands, potentially exacerbating the situation. The ascension path strengthens this twisted logic. Looking at the godGale romance ending cutscene, he gets to dress the player in matching outfits, hold them in his arms, in his realm, in his symbol. They are finally his, and he would believe it’s the power that made it happen.

However, this would lead down to a never ending thorny path with an insatiable hunger. As a god of ambition, it's in his nature to desire more, continually pursuing additional power because it's a viable all-purpose solution in his mind. He will work his way up to the god rank, might even consume a few, "bringing chaos that even trembles the heavens" —according to Raphael. And guess what? In the dnd universe, there are even superior beings above AO.

Nonetheless I hold hopes and optimism towards the godGale romance. I don’t see anything stopping the player from starting to make things better and nudging him into better use of his godhood. Ambition is not necessarily a bad thing. However, at the point where the game ends, this path is a dimmer one.

Some thoughts on the line: “To know you love me for the man I am, and not the magic I command... None have loved me so purely before.”

When I first saw this line and my tav reacted with a sad face I thought she was thinking “Huh? But i love you for your magic too??” xD

It just doesn’t make sense if he is drawing a conclusion that the player would love him for a 0 magic muggle Gale. He is a wizard. His alliance with the player was built on him contributing to their journey with his magical ability, and their romance was sparked by a shared moment through the weave.

My interpretation is that what he meant by “the magic I command” was referring to the mighty power he used to possess, and “the man I am” was everything he showed you—his love for magic, nerdy side, witty jokes, cooking… things that he thinks define who he truly is. In my canon, he probably went through a long period where his title/talent was all that mattered to people, for his portfolio was way too strong (if I read my dnd materials right, lorewise he could be a legendary character even. I will make a post once I put my findings together). The Chosen of Mystra (among the 22 known chosen in more than a thousand years, some of them are even Mystra’s daughters), the prodigy archmage with the gift to conduct the weave. He could have experienced hurt multiple times as people showed little interest in his personality, then he fell back to conceal Gale Dekarios behind the Gale of Waterdeep fortress. However, this consequently blocked him from building real friendships/relationships.

His circle is small, yet I suspect it's partly because he wouldn't let people come close enough to see Gale Dekarios. Even in Act 3, he still wants to keep it between the player and himself. At the beginning of the journey, he denied the player's attempts to know anything other than his profession. If the player is a wizard, he would even play authority and "apprentice" them. By the by, here's an interesting reading about how he might be masking.

Lastly, my favorite path for Gale! Ugh, it just melts me to see him smile that wayyy (How can Tim and the team be so genius and make the expression distinctive???? I mean, he has been smiling all the time, but especially sweet in the epilogue???) He is content. He knows he doesn't need the mask, nor power, or godhood for the player and him to be each other's. From my point of view, it's an arc of self-acceptance and unknotting. He is convinced power isn't everything, and he chooses to teach illusory magic (gotta admit, destruction-force wise it’s almost a harmless school) for he is the one who wants magic for realizing imagination and the one who shed tears over burned roses.

The path in which Gale Dekarios believes that he is seen, understood, loved, and finds peace. Nothing I would like him to have more. I hold true love for this fictional 3D man *wipe away joyful tears*

Sidenote [1]: Some hate Gale for thinking he's only “pretending”. I personally think he is a well-layered character, for there are so many ways to explain him and plenty of room for ambiguity, making it fun to think about his thinking.

Sidenote [2]: I inevitably project some of myself onto him. The concept of “you don’t need to try so hard, pretending to be someone else to be accepted by the world. you only need to find the right band.” is a kind thought that’s so cozy to me.

Since you asked me about my Mario au tell me about yours!!!!

Hum... Well, my AU is nowhere NEAR yours or anybody level of awesome. But I hope you still like this! ^^

So, to begin, I do want to pinpoint that I do believe in MatPats theory that Rosalina is the daughter of Luigi and Peach. I know that MatPat has a reputation of WAY overthinking things, and I don't agree with all of his theories, but I like this one. And the reason, as he also put in his video, for how Rosalina can be the same age as Peach, how Peach can be alive even though Rosalina's mother is dead, and why she would choose Luigi over Mario, is because the Mario Universe's galaxy basically resets itself every 100 years with various differences; Rosalina is from a previous cycle of the galaxy, and since now she's a part of the ship and with the lumas, she is nearly immortal.

The reason I took the time to get into that theory is that I applied that to my AU. The galaxy resets itself every 100 years or so with little differences here and there, hence the various inconsistencies throughout the Mario Franchise. (This is partially so I can have the excuse to have multiple Mario AU's and just claim it's another galaxy cycle 😅 but also because I genuinely think this is cool ^^) for now, we'll talk about the current galexy cycle. Or at least my version of it.

Since there is SOOOO much to dissect in the Mario universe, I'll try to cover a little bit of everybody. Or at least the main crew. If you want individual headcannons, feel free to ask! ^^ I'm gonna do this in bullet points since I feel that format will be better for this.

The World

Even though Rosalina states 100 years as the galaxy's cycle time in Super Mario Galexy, I'm gonna stretch this too... 1,000 years, at least. Because think about it; one century isn't as long as you may think. Peach, Mario, Daisy and Luigi can all be born and grow old to be 100, and maybe not even die considering the oldest person alive is 117 years old, a whole new galexy is supposed to be born within one or two generations?? It doesn't exactly sit right with me tbh. So even though it's explicitly stated in the Mario canon... I'm gonna toss that out the window for my AU 😅😅😅

I know that the Mario TV shows are considered non-canon, but I do draw inspiration from them; in the sense that in this cycle at least, Mario and Luigi did originate from Brooklyn and accidentally found a magic pipe that took them to the world of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario and Luigi, after getting over the initial panic, decided to lay low and continue their jobs as plumbers in this strange world while trying to find a way to get back home (as plumbers, they can get closer to pipes anywhere and can easier find a pipe that can take them home). It wasn't until that they witnessed Bowser kidnapping Peach while fixing the pipes of her castle that they were promoted to heros.

Speaking of Princess Peach's World, everything is bigger here. Like, everything. From the plants, the wildlife, the coins, and even the people. That's why we have gold coins as big as Mario's head, and why Bowser Jr., a b a b y, is half his size. I headcannon Luigi to be 6'2 and Mario to be 5'3, which although is still small for the average man... Princess Peach is 7'3. Yeah. Which compared to Bowser, that's still small. They truly are the land of giants. Toads are considered some of the smallest inhabitants of this world, as well as other characters such as Fawful. (I heard that Nintendo made Mario's official height to be 5'1, which would make the other characters a more reasonable size when you do the math... But this is a different cycle of the galexy (*cough* my personal AU) so XD)

From now on, I'm gonna refer to the world as The Strangelands. This is the world as a whole, not one specific land like The Darklands or The Mushroom Kingdom. They have their own separate space and galexy from us, hence why we aren't affected by the galaxy rebirth. The land where the fairies of 3D world come from, however, is also a separate universe from the Strangelands, and that's part of why their pipes are transparent rather than green. Ever since Mario and Friends and Bowser discovered the land of the fairies, it's become more accessible... And yet Mario and Luigi still can't find a pipe back to their world 🥲

Building up on that; the boos are a separate entity from ghosts. We see in Luigi's Mansion both boos and ghosts of various shapes and sizes. The boos have never been alive, or at least not as humans or toads or anything. They are the natural born citizens of the Strangelands' underworld- or rather, The Underlands, as they are called in this universe. It's where you go when you die regardless of the kind of person you were in the Strangelands, and King Boo rules over the afterlife. He sets up haunted mansions up in the land of the living both for fun and to 'recruit' more ghosts... Since boos are aggressive towards Mario and Friends when they enter the houses, use your imagination on what this recruitment process entails.

Peach, the Toads, and the Mushroom Kingdom

I'm gonna say that for my AU, Peach is an adopted Strangelands human of the Mushroom King and Queen. For whatever reason, they couldn't produce an heir, but found Peach when she was a baby. That's why Peach looks different from the toads.

The clothes and building materials of the Mushroom Kingdom are made from the fibers of the kingdoms own mushrooms and toadstools. It allows the clothes to grow back when they get torn or something, and the houses and buildings can easily recover from an invasion (afterall, we were able to create bricks out of fungal mycelium that can literally grow. Why not have the same be true for the toads?) The clothes are also pretty soft despite not being cotton, silk, or anything of the like. Which is why Kamek and Luigi canonically love Peach's dress... And also it's because her fashion is on point.

As we know, Peach is becoming bigger than just a damsel in distress. In my AU, Peach took a vow of pacifism when she took the throne, believing that that was the true path. However, the more that Bowser kidnaps her and the more threats that she encounters, Peach has been starting to get tired of it and learning how to defend herself with Daisy as her mentor. She's still the sweet, kindhearted princess and would rather avoid conflict. But she's not afraid to fight some koopas anymore. (Bowser thinks it's hot-)

According to the original games' manual, the goombas were traitorous toads of the Mushroom Kingdom. The reason why they look so different from the toads is because the magic in the Darklands corrupted their forms, making them closer resemble the very fungai of their former home.

The Mario Kart and sports games take place in the far future, when Peach and Bowser are finally on peaceful relations like she had always hoped. She now always invites him and his family to the tournaments. It took a while for the toads to trust him, considering his reputation, but in good time, he was accepted in the Mushroom Kingdom again ^^ in fact, Iggy helped invent the gravity defying wheels we see in Mario Kart 8.

Bowser, the Koopa Kids, and The Darklands

Toadsworth and his wife, the grandma toad in Mario RPG, are basically the Kameks of the Mushroom Kingdom; being Peach's advisors and teaching her what magic they know. Granted, their magic is more light than Kamek's, but it was how Peach was able to change her citizens back to normal after Bowser turned them into bricks, stones, and horsetail plants in the first game/kidnapping.

Speaking of horsetail plants; they are considered illegal in the Mushroom Kingdom with how deadly they are to the citizens. They can make a toad gravely ill just by being near them, and is the most effective poison against a toad, being able to kill them in mere minutes after consumption. And, with various things in the kingdom being made of mushrooms, the horsetail plants can also potentially destroy the very foundation of the city. Bowser intended on taking the mushrooms of the kingdom and turned some of the citizens into the plants to keep any potential survivors away from the princess, and once he took full control he would turn the toads that were bricks and stones back to normal since they know how to create these mycelium inbued buildings.

Mushrooms in real life can boost plants' immune systems and even defend them when they are connected to their 'shroom network. The same applies to the mushrooms of the kingdom. In fact, because these are magical mushrooms, it makes Peach's Kingdom not only the healthiest, lushest and most colorful place in the Strangelands, but it also means her land is the most valuable for agriculture. Not only could you grow whatever you want in the kingdom's soil, but it can also thrive. If the Mushroom Kingdom was in charge of our farming, we would have so much produce we wouldn't know what to do with it! Those $6 boxes of strawberries could go down to as little as 50 cents! No wonder people are constantly invading Peach's kingdom!

The initial reason why Bowser kidnaps Peach in the first place was A) part of his plan to conquer and rule all of the Strangelands, and B) because her lands' mushrooms are valuable for the reasons I stated above and then some. However, at some point, he fell in love with the princess in pink and his kidnappings became less hostile (as in, unlike the first time, he'll leave the toads alone for the most part. He'll still cause destruction, but he doesn't go out of his way to kill anyone. Except the Mario brothers since they are constantly in his way and wrecking his plans). He wants to court Peach, but after the first time, he's pretty certain that she only sees him as a monster. So he thinks that the only way to get her to even look his way, let alone get her to talk to him, is by force. But as we see in the Super Mario Wonder promotion video, we see Bowser is starting to try more gentler tactics of charming Peach when he offers her flowers. It doesn't excuse his actions, but my version of Bowser just wants Peach to love him back.

He does love Peach for her, but he also gained memories of a past incarnation of the galexy where they were genuinely in love. He's not sure how these memories exist, or why they only came to mind when he first met Peach, but it did spur him to find answers, and that led to his falling for the princess (in this world, there are only a few characters who remember their pasts lives. Kamek is one of them, and he used an experimental spell to jog Bowsers memory, and later on the koopalings and Junior once he perfected the spell. And that's how Junior knows that Peach isn't his mama without her or Bowser telling him otherwise. But he and the koopalings still want her to be their mother)

The reason why we see so many dry koopas in the darklands is because the darklands are the closest connection to the underworld. Like you're more likely to find a pipe to the underworld in Bowsers castle than in Sarasaland or sonething. That's also part of why Bowser and King Boo have developed an alliance. Boo has taught Bowser the secret of his paintings, hence Super Mario 64, and provides him a way to utilize his citizens who have passed away. In return, Bowser agreed to allow King Boo reign over part of the Stranfelans whenever he takes over. As long as each of his kids still get their own kingdoms.

Speaking of the Koopalings; kamek only casted the spell on them after their own first encounter with Peach. The kids were confused as to why Bowser would go to such lengths for Peach, but when they got to interact with her, she was... Actually, very nice to them. Almost maternal. Peach couldn't believe Bowser had children and was even afraid for them, considering she's only seen his tyrannical side. For the brief time she interacted with them, she expressed concern and care for their wellbeing and even got to play with some of them like Lemmy, before Mario rescued her. That was enough to convince the Koopalings they needed Peach in their lives, but once they got to remember the past cycle where she was their mother, they really started to get involved in Bowsers schemes to get her back... Even if they are exasperated with him not just talking with her 😅

Wendy: Dad, trust me. Us girls love it when a guy just walks up to us and tells us how we feel! You need to try it!

Bowser: Hm... Maybe-

Bowser: Wait! Have there been boys talking to you, Wendy!?

Wendy: -_- Dad, if there were, Roy would have beaten them up by now.

Bowser: Well, as your father, I need to get a beating in myself! Where are they!?

Wendy: *facepalms*

Edit: I originally said that Bowser requested Kamek to jog his children's memories, but I realized the plothole in that; if he knew that the kids knew that Peach was only their mother in a past life, why did he look so guilty, shocked, and was almost crying when Junior confessed to him that he knew Peach wasn't really his mama? So I fixed it, and Kamek did it on the koopalings request instead, when they snuck in his lab and read his notes on this whole thing. Bowser only finds out later. (Also, Bowser up above is threatening to beat up the hypothetical boys that talked to Wendy not only because he's protective, but because he figured out she's a lesbian and isn't tolerating some guy putting the moves on her. Wendy hasn't told him yet, he's just waiting for her to come out if at all. He's intense, but he's got the spirit.)

In this galexy cycle, Bowser birthed Junior himself (I saw a headcannon floating around that koopas can reproduce with another, or by themselves, and I love that ^^), but adopted the koopalings in different times. Ludwig came first, followed closely by Iggy. Larry. Mortan. Roy and Wendy were adopted around the same time. And finally Lemmy. Junior was born a little before Roy and Wendy came into the picture, and has very vague memories of first being introduced to Lemmy. Other than that, as far as he's aware, his siblings have been with him from the beginning.

As for the Koopalings' ages, I do mostly agree with the mainly agreed census that their order of appearance in Super Mario Bros 3 is indicating their ages; Ludwig, Lemmy, Roy, Iggy, Wendy, Mortan, and Larry... I say I mostly agree with this because I actually headcannon Lemmy to be the youngest of them all next to Junior. Just- LOOK AT HIM!? He's so baby!! I know, he could very easily just be immature and short for his age... But he is the true baby of the Koopalings in my heart.

Rosalina and the Lumas

As for Kamek, he's been working on this memory spell for some time. The past... 50 or so galexy cycles, in fact. It's only before the lumas sacrificed themselves in SMG that he finally cracked it, after experimenting on himself and other koopas (one cycle, he even accidentally wiped all of his memories and had amnesia for the rest of his life. Fortunately, he had all of his memories back in the next cycle and made a mental note not to do what he did to cause that again 😅)

As stated above, Rosalina is from a previous cycle where she was Peach's and Luigi's daughter. It did take her some tie to get used to witnessing new timeliness where her mother fell in love with Mario instead, or stayed single. Bowser being her mothers love interst especially threw her off. Though, because of that, she has developed a tiny sense of a big sister role with Junior and the Koopalings. It grew when she got to meet and interact with them in Mario Kart, though she keeps her secrets from them; they don't know that she's technically their sister from another timeline.

By the end of Super Mario Galexy, Rosalina has made her presence known to the cast, and has decided to be more hands on from now on as her role of watcher of the galexy. She comes to the Strangelands to physically check in more often, and that allowed Peach to invite her to the kingdoms events. Rosalina hasn't told Peach of her true identity, though the princess does feel a strange, maternal warmth towards her that she can't explain.

The reason why Rosalina and the lumas were so involved in SMG was because of the black hole. It was unexpected, and they stepped in hoping to help Mario stop it, but he couldn't. That's why the lumas sacrificed themselves to emergency reset the whole galexy before it's scheduled time. It's because of that emergency cycle that the cast are still around rather than being reborn as their ancestors and clearly remember everything.

Just because Rosalina has accepted her role as watcher of the galexy, doesn't mean she's too happy about it. I mean, she has to watch her family who don't even remember her continue on with different lives every 1,000 years, and is unable to communicate to them who she really is... I think Rosalina might have even developed depression at some point. She loves the lumas, but she still wishes she can truly be with her family. Even if they aren't her family anymore.

After the events of Galexy, Kamek wants to find Rosalina and figure out what the hell is going on. He remembers past lives, but doesn't know how it's even possible. But he knows Rosalina has to know, and he wants answers. He's also hoping to find a way to get everyone to remember their pasts for his own reasons. But since Rosalina lives in a spaceship, it's kind of hard to accomplish that... But hey, with the strange stoic women being invited to the Go Karting tournaments, as well as the koopas, it gives our favorite wizard a chance to finally confront Rosalina...

This is all I have so far, aside from character headcannons. I also have my own original concepts and characters. You know Princess Boolina (the poll is still going, but I'm gonna refer to her as Boolina since that's the winning name), as well as a kingdom of music with a king, queen, princess, and prince. I'm not sure if I'll develop the second one more. It depends on whether or not people would be interested and if I can figure out how to fit them in the Mario world. But I hope you like this AU! It may change as I develop it more ^^

Part of the need for the emergency reset was also because of people like Kamek trying to change the course of this cycle. In this iteration, or at least the one before the lumas sacrificed themselves, Peach was supposed to end up with Mario, but thanks to Kamek, Bowser kept getting in the way and trying his way of courting her and getting her back rather than letting this cycle run its course, to the point where he made up his own universe and caused the events leading up to the blackhole consuming everything just to have his love back. After these events, Rosalina has decided that she should keep a better eye on Bowser and Kamek in particular...

Bucky has a lot of strange dreams. Nightmares, images that might be memories mixed with ones he’s sure couldn’t have ever been real., and things don’t make sense at all. Sorting it out feels damn near impossible.

Even with the slightly better grip on his own memories that he’s regained these days, and even with Steve’s help, it’s still hard to work through.

Most of the time, he doesn’t bother trying. Dreams are honestly the least of his worries. So he tends to just shake them off, no matter what.

But lately, he’s been having this recurring dream. It’s been happening multiple times a week, and it’s starting to really get to him. And not because it’s a nightmare or a disturbing dream of any sort.

It’s not. It’s actually —

It’s about Steve. It’s about him and Steve, and what he now knows to be their old apartment in Brooklyn and —

In the dream, Steve is sitting on the couch. That’s how it always starts. Steve’s sitting on the couch, and Bucky sees himself walking across a wooden floor and then leaning over Steve's shoulders, looking at the sketch pad on his lap. And, in the dream, they both look how they did back when they’d really lived in that apartment. But in his sketchbook, Steve has drawn Bucky looking how he does now, in the present — metal arm clearly visible in the image.

Then, in the dream, Bucky grins at Steve, as if this image is an expected thing to see, and he always says,

“How bout that you got my good side for once,” and that makes Steve laugh and set down his pencil so he can puts a hand around one of Bucky’s arms.

“Didn’t know you had one,” Steve says, tugging Bucky closer to him. He’s always still laughing,. They’re both always laughing.

That’s when Bucky watches himself bend lower and put a hand hands on Steve’s neck.

“It’s looking real good, Stevie,” Bucky says, every time, as Steve’s head turns toward his. “I like this one.”

“Glad to hear it.” Steve’s grin is so close to Bucky’s own mouth, and he’s still tugging on Bucky’s arm. “Guess it’s accurate.”

“Oh, such flattery,” Bucky says, somehow even closer to Steve’s mouth than before.

And then. Every time.

They kiss.

And that’s when Bucky wakes up.

It’s really not a bad dream.

Honestly, Bucky really wouldn’t mind if he kept having it. He well, he thinks a lot about kissing Steve when he’s awake. That’s a thing, too, lately. He doesn’t know what to do about that. He can’t quite figure out if the wanting is remembering something he’s always wanted, or if it’s a new thing. Either way, it makes the dream pretty enjoyable, if confusing.

But he’s had it eight times in two and half weeks, and he thinks there’s gotta be something to that. A message, or something.

When he wakes up from a nap and the 9th version of it — on a couch with Steve already in the room, it feels incredibly hard to shake off. It feels —

“You okay?” Steve calls. He’s got a sketchbook in his hands.

“Yeah.” Bucky sits up on the couch and watches Steve’s hands as he draws. “How long was I out?”

“Only about an hour,” Steve says, sending him a smile. “Didn’t wake you up, did I?”

“No.” Bucky shakes his head.

The dream is still floating in his mind, and with Steve right here, it’s —

“You sure you’re alright?” Steve sounds more concerned this time. He puts his sketchbook down.

“Just a dream.” Bucky waves a hand. “Told you how they are.”

“Sure,” Steve says, not seeming any less worried. “You can tell me about it if you want.”

Bucky shakes his head, but then he notices what Steve’s been drawing. The sketch Steve was working on is him, looking how he does now, in the present — metal arm clearly visible in the image. It’s not exactly the same as the one Bucky’d seen in his dream, but it’s close.

Bucky stares at it, quiet for long enough that Steve reaches out and puts a hand on his arm.

And suddenly the dream starts feeling very real, and Bucky wonders if —

If it could be a memory.

“You drew that in my dream,” Bucky says, pointing to the picture. “Close to it, anyway.”

“What?” Steve frowns.

“I keep having this dream,” Bucky says, pushing the words out before he changes his mind about saying them. “About you and me in our old apartment, and you’re drawing, but you draw me now, not me like I was then, like I am in the dream.”

“Oh,” Steve says, slowly. He nods, and he gets up to sit next to Bucky on the couch.

“And we kiss,” Bucky says, eyes locked on Steve’s face when he does. “In the dream. We joke around about you drawing me, and then we kiss like — like people who do it all the time.”

Steve’s breathing and pulse change.

“We — we did,” Steve says, flushed, but meeting Bucky’s eyes. “Might be a memory. Memories.”

“I was wondering,” Bucky says, nodding. “Keep having it so often, and then this time you were here, and I thought —“

“Right,” Steve says.

“I hoped that was right,” Bucky offers truthfully. “It’s a good dream.”

“Yeah? You did?” Steve brightens noticeably. He outright beams at Bucky.

“I did,” Bucky says, pleased when Steve sets a hand on his arm again.

Bucky doesn’t really remember a lot about how to do this, he’s been watching himself put a hand on Steve’s neck before kissing him for weeks. It seems like a good move. So he repeats it now. Bucky puts a hand around Steve’s neck, and he lets Steve tug him in a little closer with that hand on his arm —

And then they’re kissing.

But this time, Bucky doesn’t wake up as soon as it starts.

He gets to keep kissing Steve.

Daisy: if these two met as children, Daisy would be the first to initiate conversation and try to get Luigi to come out of his shell and play. Luigi would be extremely shy but with a bit of encouragement he'd come out and be friends with Daisy. These two would be great friends and spend a lot of time together, drawing, playing sports, etc. A strong friendship that will come to last for years.

Peasley: if these two met at a young age, I feel like Luigi would end up being more confident in himself thanked to Peasley's encouragement and support, especially if Mario followed suit to it. It wouldn't be a drastic change but a noticeable change. Luigi would also be a good support system to Peasley when his royal duties start to become a bit too much or when he starts doubting himself, especially in their teenage years when they can feel the most emotional.

Dreambert: if they met young then it would be before Antasma came into the picture. These two would find solitude in each others calm demeanors and friendly attitudes. If Dreambert offered to show Luigi the dream world or enter Luigi's dreams for a surreal adventure, they might have ended up tapping into Luigi's dream powers a lot sooner and they would have helped train him to use them better. Eldream would be able to help with this too since Snoozemore wouldn't have been in the picture either and Eldream is a trusted friend of the royal Pi'illo family with a lot of old knowledge about dreams.

Bowser: I mean, canonically these two did meet when they were young, Luigi being a newborn but the meeting wasn't all that great. It even got worse when baby Mario and Yoshi showed up. Plus, baby Bowser is spoiled rotten by Kamek and was shaped into the beast the Mushroom Kingdom now fears so I don't think there would have been a chance of a friendship with them.

King Boo: King Boo was probably around way before the bros were born so he'd still be an adult when Luigi is a child, but he'd still have his normal red gem instead of the purple one on his crown so he wouldn't be all that insane. Even if we make a version where King Boo is still a normal, common boo, his main goal when meeting Luigi would be to scare him to tears, especially when Luigi is an easy target to be frightened. However, when the bros become the heroes of the MK and King Boo kidnaps Mario, he might remember them, faintly since then he'd only see them as nameless victims to scare. He might remember Luigi a bit more from being a favourite so he'd be surprised at how he can push forward despite how scared he still is. Pretty sure the boos would have given him early trauma from that so it'd be a lot harder on Luigi.

Antasma: for Antasma, I'll stick to Luigi being Dreambert's friend and they both found Antasma as a bat and took him in. He'd get attached to both children due to their care and kindness towards him. You didn't hear this from me but he is closer with Luigi since he sneaks him extra sweets and has the best dreams to munch on. When he turned evil and took the Dark Stone he tried to get Luigi to join him but he obviously refused and it made Antasma have a festering hatred of betrayal much like with Dreambert. Luigi was forced by Dreambert to escape before Antasma was imprisoned since Dreambert didn't want him to be targeted and so he wasn't aware of the petrification of the Pi'illos, only that Antasma didn't intent to go down alone.

Dimentio: We can't even confirm his past, how can we confirm he was ever a child? Technically, my new AU fits with this scenario but might as well come up with another. Unless Dimentio was aware Luigi would be the Man in Green of the Prophecy, I doubt he would even care. If he did know, however, he may be the reason Luigi is still alive after everything he's been through before the events of SPM happened. He would monitor Luigi whenever the Count didn't have need of him for a mission or task and he would keep an eye on how he faired as a child, which he could then use to manipulate him with in the future.

Shyrax Designing

This might be a long post, apologies.

Tryna design Shyrax right now. Design-wise I feel like she is going to be the most complex, both because of how regal I imagine her to be and because I have to essentially design up karoshans. While reading I also found it really hard to visualize her especially. When character designing, my process usually involves rough sketches trying to find the characters personality and then coming up with outfits that fit them/the setting. For Shyrax though, I decided to do what I will now call the paper doll method, where I try to come up with a design first using a base, before actually drawing her. Did it this way so I can have a rough idea of what Shyrax could look like, put some ideas down instead of trying to tackle personality and appearance in one go. In future pieces, I would use these as rough guides on how to draw her, atleast until theres official art released.

My first attempts came out decently well. I think this is closer to what I initially pictured imagined her as. And I really like the results! I always got the impression that Shyrax is wearing a dress, but like designed for battle. I think it adds to the royalty vibe. For some reason, I also imagined her without irises, so I left them out here too. Whats really missing is more jewelry but eh that can be added in future work. I tried a few color schemes, these three were my favorite. Imo red looks the best, but I feel like the darker vers would be closer to canon.

I still like this version, but in the end I don't think it matches the setting very well? Maybe I'm overthinking it but it feels like it borders too much on fantasy over scifi.

Next version is closer to what is described in the books. I also took some minor inspo from the armor Predators wear. I'm not sure how much inspiration from Predators I want to pull for her design, because although I do think Karoshans take some inspiration from them, I feel like its in a very different vibe. I also gave her irises in this version. This version also feels like it could have more jewelry and could probably deal with being a bit more scifi too. Two color versions, using a bronze as a secondary color. I like the one on the right more.

Additional notes:

Anatomy wise, I find it very hard to decide how alien I want go with Karoshans. Tried to find the nice balance between alien and humanoid. Now that we know how human-ish Visiri look, I don't want to go to far into alien, both because I have no experience designing aliens and I don't want Karoshans looking out place with the other races. I am giving them digitigrade legs, because its fun.

I debated adding more techy stuff to Shyrax. I think it'll be something I do on a case-to-case basis. Jewelry too.

I think I've hit the limit on using this method. I have some more ideas for alternative designs but at this point I really rather draw Shyrax in action rather than using a base.

Anyway this was mostly written for myself for future reference, but in case anyone is reading this, please feel free to share your thoughts on Shyrax's design or how you picture her. Or vote in the poll below for which of the versions you think looks better.

The first of my Genshin Impact redesigns:

The first one is a redesign of her normal skin, then the second is a redesign of her skin!

And for a refrence of her body type I drew this as well

I have a lot of notes about changes I’ve made, so feel free do read these if you’re interested!

- I made her more muscular, particularly in her back & arms due to her being an archer (I may have gone overboard by giving her abs tho haha)

- I put her long hair in a ponytail so her hair wouldn’t get in the way of her work, but kept it super long jut cuz it suits her

- I made her nose closer to the shape of a rabbit due to the whole rabbit motif she has

- I gave her tan skin due to her always being outside

- I gave her longer legs also because of the rabbit motif (and long legs tend to mean ur a better jumper I think. And rabbits jump. Get it.)

- I gave her a proper jacket and shirt mostly because I do NOT understand how her canon outfits work. Like how does she put those on and wtf do they look like when she’s not wearing them

- I gave her a tooth gap because I gave most rabbit characters a tooth gap. I don’t know how or why that started but I needed to honor the tradition

- I gave her freckles cuz they’re cute :3 and also some of them are shaped like her constellation so tell me if you find them ;)

- I gave her a bandana because it’s cuteee and it suits her. And I needed something around her neck to bring it together so

- I gave her some burn scars on her hands and some burned/ashy clothes because you can’t convince me she hasn’t accidentally set her clothes on fire at LEAST once

- So my approach to the skin design was to base it off of what the description of it in game was. And it was described as a more formal version of her normal outrider outfit. So I did exactly that and made a more formal version of her normal outfit

- Also I swapped the symbol to the other Knights of Favonius symbol/logo considering the one on her original design is ONLY on uniforms and is wayyyyy to complex for a logo

- I painted her nails Collei colors :) even tho you can’t see them in her normal design with the gloves :(

- I got rid of a lot of details in the og design bc I was too lazy to draw them LMAOOO

She was honestly a blast to design!! I plan on redesigning every character eventually so keep an eye out ;) Next up is my lesbian icon Lisa

I'm a little baffled by your post about the one piece anime, because while I would also recommend people read the manga instead, it still is a vastly more accurate adaption than the opla? like, opla is lovely for what it is, but oda being involved in it doesn't change the fact that they took huuuge liberties that the anime just... doesn't? which is perfectly fine for an adaption, I'm just mentioning it because it sounded like you were focused on the character dynamics, which are just... vastly, vastly different in the manga AND anime vs the live action. I'm thinking about Nami and Sanji in particular (and Usopp as well to a degree), who all kind of feel like watered-down versions of their actual selves (Nami isn't greedy enough, Usopp not cowardly enough, Sanji... well, I'm not saying Sanji being different is a bad thing asdf). Again, perfectly fine for an adaption that doesn't mean to adapt its source material beat for beat, but it just leaves me really confused over how the opla is possibly a more faithful/a better adaption than the anime? Which, as far as I can recall, has severe pacing issues, annoying fillers and leaves out things like the cover stories, but still sticks waaaay closer to the actual story and dynamics as they are in the manga.

(First of all: you can like the Anime. As I said before, I've watched the entire Anime 3 times this last year. But you can enjoy something and still know it's flawed. Very flawed, even.)

Uf, I will try to make this as short as possible xD If i sound dry or "angy", sorry, English is not my first language ^^

What baffles me is that most people really think the Anime of One Piece is a faithful 1 to 1 adaptation, or that everything on it is canon (except the fillers), or that Oda approves the changes they make. For context: it was very common in the 90s/2000s to just take a manga that was doing good and make an animation that took the characters and story and did whatever they wanted with it. One Piece is not the only victim of this treatment.

I respect the animators and Seiyuus, they do their jobs good and are what makes the Anime enjoyable. But I really can not understand the Directors and the changes they decided to make to the characters (and this applies to the whole series, not only 20 years ago).

The changes you see in OPLA are necessary to translate a drawing (Manga) to a series acted by real people. Also, condensing 95 chapters of Manga in 8 episodes and trying to bring the essence of the characters to the screen, translating Japanese funny gags to an International Audience and also having the input of 25 years of Oda thinking "huh, maybe this could have been explained better" it's obviously going to make things change.

The Anime has none of those excuses. It's also a drawing so no need to tone down, supposed to have the same Audience (even tho they really tried to make it for little kids and it shows), they clearly don't have an issue with the length of the series and they don't ask Oda for nearly any of the changes they make!

Pretending Oda being involved or not doesn't matter is just so weird to me. You know all One Piece characters are Oda's OCs, right? He is the original creator of the characters. He knows them better than anyone else. He knows where the story is going, what is acceptable, what is on character and what is not. Just because they are very famous characters it doesn't mean they are not someones Original Characters. He loves them and cares for them. Not respecting him as the only one that can say something is canon or not is completely disrespectful and dehumanizing.

About watering down characters in OPLA: again, they are real people acting the characters. In the Manga they are exaggerated to a comical effect that wouldn't translate as comical if it's real people who do it, it'd just be weird. That's because it's different mediums and different audience. But the core of the characters is very present, just less cartoony. On the other hand, the Anime reduces the characters to just this comical effect, taking away nearly everything else of the characters, making them just gags.

Answering to the specific points you make about OPLA:

Nami not being greedy enough: Nami's greed before Arlong Park Arc is just her trying to save enough to free her people. We don't really see her greed until after she is free. We haven't reached this point yet in OPLA, apart of her wanting to dress nice and enjoy a bath.

Usopp not being cowardly enough: they can not spend 5 minutes of an 50 minute episode showing him screaming around or running away. But they did show him running as first reaction in Kaya's Mansion, twice. They showed him wanting to go back home after encountering Garp. He does say cowardly things all the time, like wanting to leave, stay on the Merry, not fight the Fish Men, running away the second Chu payed attention to him… It's just less cartoony. They are also not showing inner dialogue of the characters, it's just shown by their acting.

Sanji not being a pervert: Not only is Sanji's perversion waaaay exaggerated in the Anime, to an unpalatable degree, it's also a very Japanese Funny Gag that wouldn't translate good to an International Audience. Sanji in the Manga has, on top of everything else, a friendly relationship with Nami. He can talk to her like a human being. They are friends that can agree or disagree without drama, that join forces to fix things very often and act very calm around each other unless something "special" happens and Sanji is lovestruck, but even so, he usually comes back to being normal pretty fast. Of course he likes her and he is attracted to her, but he also sees her as a person... unlike the Anime. This translated to into the Live Action to a man that tries to flirt and has no success, but that can take a no as an answer without being offended. Also, Oda probably wanted to show on the Live Action that the real reason Sanji is on the crew is no other than him following Luffy (that is also a thing that the Anime waters down: Sanji's dedication to Luffy)

The main point is: yes, OPLA is an Alternative Universe where things are shown a bit differently, but the core of the characters is the same. You see them and you see real people, just like in the Manga.

And let's see about the faithfulness of the Anime... just because the Arcs are called the same and things kind of happen the same, it doesn't mean it's a faithful adaptation. The most important thing in a story is the characters and how they interact and react to the world. These are just some differences between the Anime and the Manga that I can think of off the top of my head, just from the East Blue Saga. (without any particular order)

-- Zoro's real backstory (Manga) is that he had been in the Shimotsuki Dojo probably since birth, practicing his 2 Sword Style and only starting the 3 Sword Style to carry Kuina's Soul with him. [((spoilers from Wano: now we know Zoro is also a Shimotsuki, so he was training in his family's Dojo. It also explains why Koushirou gave Kuina's sword to Zoro so easily: they are family, and Zoro would carry the Shimotsuki name to the top of Swordmanship))].

Zoro's backstory in the Anime is completely changed to make it look like he is a random funny kid that came out of nowhere and one day appeared in the Dojo. His signature 3 sword style is also made like he just "wanted to use as many swords as possible".

I don't think it's very necessary to explain why this changes are just... terrible for the character and continuity.

[Edit: the following is not correct! Check the reblog for the correction :D] The Anime also makes Zoro's departure from Shimotsuki Village like something he planned to do, saying goodbye to Kuina's Grave and Koushiro… when in the Manga he literally tells Luffy he was kicking pirates out of his village and he got lost and didn't know how to get back. [/end of incorrect part]

Changing Zoro's character at every turn is something they love to do in the Anime.

Usopp in the Manga wants Luffy&co. to meet Kaya, because he cares about her well being. He wants her to make new friends, to be able help them and feel useful doing it. Usopp knows what Kaya needs is contact with the world and tries to bring it to her.

Usopp in the Anime is jealous and secretive of her. He doesn't want the others to go meet her, even knowing they are good people. He'd rather have her to himself.

This is a fatal change to the character of Usopp. He is a kind hearted lovely man that wants what's best for his friend... but the Anime just shows a jealous asshole.

In the battle against Cabaji, Zoro cuts his own wound, so his opponent can't use it as an advantage anymore.

In the Anime, he lowers his defense on purpose and lets Cabaji cut his wound.

The first one shows how far he can go to prove himself, also shows he is not at all worried because he doesn't consider Cabaji up to his level. I'm not sure what the second one is supposed to show apart from "children can not see self-harm".

Also in Orange Town in Manga, Luffy is fighting as much as possible against the cage he is trapped in, biting the bars. And afterwards he is very worried asking Zoro to leave him and not carry him or he will get worse from his wounds. In the Anime he is just surprised that Zoro can carry him like that. He doesn't really fight his predicament.

The Anime usually shows Luffy as an uncaring friend, which is sad when he is a character that cares so much and has so much empathy.

In the Manga, Zeff cuts his own leg and eats it to survive after giving all the food they have to Sanji.

In the Anime, Zeff lost his leg because it got caught in the ships broken pieces, and he had to cut it to survive. (i guess he survived 80 days thanks to the Holy Spirit or something) (again with being palatable to children)

In the Manga, the first encounter between Tashigi and Zoro is brief, Zoro gives her back the glasses and carries on (even tho tilted by her looking so similar to Kuina).

In the Anime, Zoro breaks Tashigi's glasses with the shock and she proceeds to be the meanest person ever insulting him in many ways (isn't she supposed to be a good person?) and forcing him to work for her to pay her glasses back, even tho she has no need for the money.

The Anime shows Zoro as a pushover, when in reality he is not. He was "pushed over" by Luffy out of the blue because it is Luffy, not because Zoro would let someone random do that to him. This type of "Zoro gets messed up easily by anyone" is very repeated through the Anime, taking away the importance of his relationship with Luffy and the other few he pays really attention to.

In the Manga, Sanji wants to be famous and have his face seen in the Newspaper. That's why he gets mad when Usopp is in Luffy's Wanted Poster and he isn't.

In the Anime, he is already a famous cook. We can see it in one of the many filler in Loguetown, where another cook has been wanting to surpass him for a long time.

Also in Loguetown, in the Manga Luffy goes directly to the place Roger was executed.

In the Anime they make him get lost a hundred times for comical effect. He also meets Smoker, Buggy and others on the way… taking away all the surprise.

In the Manga, Zoro and Luffy are pretty confused with Sanji's romantic reaction to Nami. They don't get why she's getting special treatment. Zoro even wonders if she bewitched him somehow.

In the Anime, as soon as Sanji starts flirting with Nami, Zoro gets irritated and Luffy gets uncomfortable.

In the Anime they try hard to make Zoro have a romance with any girl that shows up, adding reactions that are never present in the Manga.

And well, a huge one that needs more elaboration, because it is the core of the Manga: Luffy is shown observing and judging situations and people constantly. Every time something is happening that shows the true nature of people, he is specifically shown paying attention.

In the Anime this is translated as him being an empty headed kid that barely thinks or cares about anyone. He is a shell of a man, who only repeats that he wants to be King of the Pirates...

This is a very tiny list of examples that explain themselves without going into extensive detail…

I can go on and on about more changes that make no sense or change characters personalities, but if I do, I will dedicate its own blog to it to not clutter this one. I need bigger posts to explain the changes I see in dynamics between the characters xD

And as I said: if all of these changes were approved by Oda, I would be happy to accept them. But sadly they are not.

So to me, the One Piece Anime is just a fan-made adaptation that takes too many liberties. Or, as Animes are really considered in Japan: just advertisement for the Mangas.

On the other hand, OPLA changes were approved after negotiations and struggles and years of back and forth. Oda was very invested in it, trying to really show his vision and his world as good as possible. That's why i consider the Live Action as a faithful adaptation of the story.

Of course you may not consider these things important, but they are for me. In the end, you are free to enjoy One Piece as you wish! ^^

Gin and Nev... A friendship forged in fire

Wow thank you so much, I appreciate it! And I love this question! Apologies for the late response… I’ll get better at these 🫠

But oh boy, life at Hogwarts during book 7… I love it; it’s such a rich, chewy era for resilience, relationships, and coming-of-age. And I’ve really enjoyed creating snapshots of different characters’ perspectives (I have a couple more in the works for that series); they’ve really helped shape my ideas for arcs after the war. 

Neville and Ginny, though!! Two of my absolute favorite characters. The books don’t give us much to go on, but my headcanon has always taken the potential for their friendship and run a bit wild. I think these months at Hogwarts would have solidified it: running the D.A., caring for younger students, and pissing off the Carrows. 

(This turned into a full-on ramble, so here we go…)

I don’t think Neville and Ginny were particularly close before this year. Friends, for sure, but I think Ginny would have seen him primarily as her brother’s dorm-mate, even after the Yule Ball. She had her own friends (and boyfriend) to occupy her during D.A. meetings in OoTP, and we’re told that that Neville and Luna were the ones who bonded after the Department of Mysteries. 

Throughout Deathly Hallows, though, Neville’s no longer a peripheral friend of Ginny’s, but a comrade on a battlefield that’s been otherwise abandoned. Two Gryffindors, both with more skin in the game than most, both with nothing to lose by fighting. I think that pressure would give them both a harder edge than their peers; even Luna, who joins to form that melt-your-heart trio of misfits, has to worry about her father’s safety as a consequence of her actions. But Neville’s parents were Aurors and Ginny’s family make up most of the Order— they both come from fighters. 

Like Harry and Hermione (another gorgeous friendship that reduces me to a puddle), I think Ginny and Neville’s relationship is a thing with legs of its own, independent from the trio’s dynamic. Their characters balance one another beautifully, based on everything we’re given in the text. I put a glimpse of this into “Defiance,” which takes place in October of that year. And as the months passed, they would have only grown closer, trusted each other more, and developed sharper instincts for one another out of survival.

There’s an incredible amount of grit behind the strength we do get to see from Ginny in canon. Girl has seen a lot by this year, and I think she’d be the one to spearhead the revolution within the walls. But, and this is more of my HC here, she’s headstrong and impulsive... like an unbroken filly, I think she’d need someone else to take aim after the abandonment by Harry and her family makes her desperate and reckless. In a war of strategic mayhem, I see Neville acting the playmaker to Ginny’s agent of chaos, directing her desire for resistance into action. I’ve never had a doubt that she’s the one to hatch the idea of stealing the sword, but he’s the one pulling out the drawing board immediately after “Defiance.” He’d feel the most guilt after the fallout of their plans, too, surrounding the events of “Surrender.”

And, as the Carrows continue to do their damnedest to break her, I think Ginny gradually relies on Neville more to be the ballast of their ship. It’s a role that I think Harry will take over a bit, eventually: encouraging her to harness her fire as she picks up the pieces of her Hogwarts years.

And Neville! If ever there was a better fictional character to steal my heart. By the end of book 7, we see a completely transformed version of the nervous little sweetie who’d lost his toad on the train. I don’t remember where the idea came from to have him growing herbal remedies and passing them off as homework, but I sort of fell in love with it. This boy’s using Mandrakes as weapons up until the very end; surely he spent the entire term risking his behind to visit the greenhouses and follow his passion (and without a handy invisibility cloak, too… take that, Potter).

Neville’s always looked up to Harry, drawing inspiration from seeing him speak up against Umbridge and Snape. We get glimpses of his burgeoning voice in OoTP and HBP, fighting alongside Harry in the Department of Mysteries and defending Hogwarts after Dumbledore’s death. But we don’t see Fully Evolved Neville— D.A. leader, confident battle strategist, “I’ll join you when hell freezes over” Neville— until he’s spent more time with Ginny (DH, ch. 36). I’m sure her sharp tongue and rogue fearlessness have rubbed off on him by the time she’s whisked off to Muriel’s, and it’s something he carries with him (along with Luna’s desire for justice) in that final month facing the Carrows without them.

After the war, I have no doubt that Neville and Ginny remain close. Similarly to her dynamic with Harry, there’s an opposites-attract element to their relationship: with her encouraging spontaneity and exploration and him bringing more grounded levels of insight and empathy. I think the trio with Luna remains intact, but, like the Golden three, morphs a bit into three individual friendships with their own strengths to offer. Ginny’s seen enough of Harry’s struggles to help Neville navigate his new war heroism in a world where he’ll become more popular than he ever imagined (she definitely becomes the world’s best wingwoman at many a pub). The three of them all lose a great deal, too— particularly Ginny, with the death of her brother. I won’t go into detail because I have a lot drafted up for these two… but I think her relationship with Neville, welded and galvanized by a year of growth and suffering and hope, will be instrumental to her journey of regaining her voice.

In your last reply you mentioned chapter titles, so here I am to ask about the chapter titles!

And also how you decided who plays which roles. Ex. Santiago as Lestat’s oldest friend (from before he married Louis even) and member of his team.

I’ll answer your second question first because it’s so, so good.

When adapting canon to an AU, what I’m interested in is the dynamic capture of a character over the static one. So by static, I mean a 1:1 parity with the character, a modern version of their job, direct translation of their personality, social status, identity etc. Dynamic essence is how they impact other characters + overall context.

To take Santiago - because he's this circus ringmaster in canon S2, this satyr, lurid spotlight figure, I could’ve easily just made him a tabloid guy, go the TMZ route. But that wouldn’t really convey what I needed him for - he’d just be a cameo.

Given that in canon he has such a fraught relationship with both Armand and Lestat - need but rivalry but resentment - I wanted to translate that above all else. And there is no better framing device for this dependency than to have him be this older, grizzled spin-doctor that has been working for “the cause” since forever, knows enough dirt to bury both Lestat and Armand, but does not have the resources to take on any of them individually. Armand himself is a new upstart that technically should be Santiago's subordinate, but in PV he comes with his own capital (the name and power and connections via Marius “eugh” de Romanus at his back).

To me, Santiago’s main draw in all his canon appearances is the fact that his power is so uncertain for all its apparent flashiness. His control is predicated on so many elements which lay behind the curtain (LITERALLY) and which we do not see until the finale.

We think he is calling the shots, but then: oh. You take a closer look and he’s no ringmaster or eminence gris, he’s just the town crier. There is no vertiable eminence gris in either IWTV canon or PV, because they’re all defanged. They are consequences of history and fatherhood, especially if you compare them to figures such as Magnus and Marius - these old men still moving pieces on the board from beyond the grave and/or before the start of the story.

Anyway, am I unnecessary and unserious for thinking this in-depth about it? Absolutely. Is this some artistic credo that I think all AU/fic writers should do? Definitely not.

It’s just the by-product of me outlining this AU-verse in 6 PoVs so far (Lestat, Louis, Claudia, Armand, Daniel, Nicki) so it’s inevitable that the world becomes part of the story. I’d love to get a chance to tell the events in PV from other characters’ point of view, or at least write more fic set in the same PV universe, so I just think of it as doing the planning in advance because I know it’ll come in handy later.

The chapter titles are all film techniques! Names come from either cinematography study (frame camera angle perspective etc.) or editing and transitional devices (montage, scene cutting and so on). They are mostly made for motion picture, but some are of course also used in other contexts like news live reporting social media etc. (though I do believe sm apps like CapCut come with their own name for stuff or whatever - I avoid platforming TikTok until it pays me).

I like taking this angle with all present & future chapters because it’s a clin to how the characters are mediating (and meditatizing) their experience through these like - artifacts and artifices.

I.e. TWO-SHOT being a wide-frame, single-take conversation between two people, with almost no one else (certainly #norealpeopleinvolved) entering or leaving the shot until the scene ends. CROSS-CUT being... well, to take it from the definition:

Cross-cutting is an editing technique most often used in films to establish action occurring at the same time, and often in the same place (...) can also be used for characters in a film with the same goals but different ways of achieving them. Cross-cutting is often used during phone-conversation sequences so that viewers see both characters' facial expressions in response to what is said.

Sometimes it's genuine - TWO SHOT really is just a two-shot, sometimes it's an irony/play on purpose/subversion, like SPLIT SCREEN showing on one level Louis-Claudia conversing on a literal screen, the proverbial split between Louis/Lestat, and the disturbing, growing similarity between Lestat/Armand as a common front (as perceived by Louis; being the split image of someone else, etc.)

Certainly I don’t need to oversell the point of why the performativity of editing and montage fits the universe these miserable girls are living in, or why the chapters are defined and sectioned through the techniques it would take to adapt them to screen. (Very clear that none of these characters can define their life without an audience, they’re so consumed with the self-narrative that they forget they are not only participating in it, but fully have the power to change it).

You were so tired of being on this nothing planet. It was lonely, sad, and felt somewhat empty despite having a decent population.

There were only a few things you could really retreat to during the times when you started feeling this overwhelming gloom.

Music, writing, and your only real friend, Saa'leena. A kind and outgoing Twi'lek girl who had escaped her unfortunate circumstances and happened to cross paths with you.

Sometimes it felt almost like you were twin flames, the way that your pasts seemed to mirror each other in little ways.

"Saa'leena!" You called out from within your little makeshift boudoir. You had just finished doing your hair up the way you liked it, but you couldn't find your eyelash paint.

There was no reply to your call.

"Saa'leeeeeeenaaaaa!" You called again, this time slightly louder and with a more sing-song tone.

A familiar sunkissed pink face peeped in through the little curtain that acted as a door.

"Yes, your majesty?" a playful smile graced her full, pretty lips.

You returned the expression, giggling.

"Could you help me with findin' the stuff for my lashes? I think I lost it..." Your voice trailed off as you tried for the millionth time to search your worn out vanity for it.

"I may or may not have borrowed it from ya, sorry," She sauntered over, gently placing the little tube down on the table.

She had been wearing a pretty light blue dress that you two had been passing back and forth between each other for a few months now. You seemed to share clothes like sisters.

"Oh, it's ok! I just need it for a minute." You replied, leaning forward closer to the mirror as you began to paint your lashes with the dark substance.

"You're so pretty with or without that stuff...I wish I had your eyes." She sighed, watching you in the mirror.

You turned to her, a look of disbelief on your face, "Are you crazy? You're like the prettiest girl I've ever seen! Have you seen the way people look at you whenever you're out there waitin' tables?"

You motioned to the area out beyond the curtain which was hiding the decently sized room full of tables and chairs and a little bar.

"Yeah, I know, I know," She made a small swatting motion with her hand to keep you from carrying on, "but I've seen the way other people look at you. People who wouldn't even give me a passing glance."

"Oh yeah? Like who?"

"Remember that time when that bounty hunter came out to this little trash heap to do some 'business'? The one with the scary lookin' helmet?"

You pondered to yourself for a moment, pouting out your lips in thought.

"The one who disintegrated that guy who was lurking around the bar?"

"Yes!"

You rolled your eyes, turning away from the mirror to look at her, "No way. You know who that guy is, he'd never look at me. He's real serious, I think. Kinda like a 'no silly business' type. Besides, how could you even tell? You can't see his face!"

"I don't have to see a face to know when someone's lookin'," She smirked at you.

You suddenly got serious.

"Boba Fett was not eyeing me up."

"Ohh, that's his name! I thought it was somethin' else...and yes he was! Stop being a little brat and accept it," She reached out her pretty manicured fingers to pinch your cheek.

You shrank back and squealed, "Owch!"

There were many familiar faces hanging around the dingy dining room. Some more familar than others. But one made your heart jump into your throat upon seeing him.

Boba Fett.

He sat at one of the tables way back in the corner where the dim lights barely reached, seemingly hiding him.

He stared straight ahead at the mini stage area where you would be shortly.

But for now, you hid behind the dressing room curtain, peering out at the crowd.

You had put on a simple little white dress and a couple of flowers in your hair to dress it up a bit.

After a few minutes of waiting around, you slowly stepped out into the room and everyone turned their heads.

Including Fett.

You wondered what he was doing here.

He seemed to just be relaxing. Maybe he had finished his business already? But why would he stay afterwards?

Your thoughts were interrupted by the sounds of low whistles and comments being made in hushed tones.

The smell of strong drink and a subtle hint of spice fully hit you in the face once you walked closer to the stage.

As you passed by one table, you could hear a deep voice mumble, "I bet she purrs like a pretty little Loth-cat."

You became flustered but continued walking, trying to hide your embarrassed smile.

The job obviously welcomed this sort of behavior from patrons. It wasn't unknown to you. But it didn't bother your conscience too terribly much.

If you wanted to you could just as easily work in a different setting and wear outfits that didn't attract this kind of attention, but you liked how glamorous it made you feel.

Getting dressed up and singing pretty songs for a crowd was soothing to your soul.

Exile from your home planet can put a lot of hurt in a girls heart. Not many things can make it easier to deal with.

You tried to not make it obvious as you looked out to where the bounty hunter was sitting again, but you had a feeling he could tell that you were watching.

His gaze seemed to be settled on the area where the strange "compliment" came from. Likely just a coincidence.

After all, he seemed so far away, how could he have heard that?

"Hello," you shyly spoke into the janky stage mic, "how's everybody doin' tonight?"

You giggled, covering your mouth as the small crowd unanimously replied with positive reactions.

"Glad to hear it..." shifting and swaying a bit, you tilted your head to the side as you continued speaking, "well I hope this little song doesn't bring anyone's mood down but, uhm...it has a special meaning to me. It's a little bit of a love song dedicated to someone from my distant past. Long, long gone...but if ya like, it can be about whoever you want it to be about. We're all here for a good time after all...Well, most of us," you finished, letting your gentle stare rest on Fett.

You watched him cross his arms and settle back in his chair, keeping his eyes on you.

You felt yourself blushing.

You didn't know very much about him but from the little bits and pieces you had heard, he seemed somewhat scary.

It attracted you to him.

The very thought of being close to a guy like that gave you a little adrenaline rush that made your heartbeat thud in your ears.

But being interested in guys who thrilled you had caused you heartache in the past.

You weren't sure if you could repeat that again.

However, he did seem...different from them.

"This lil song...is called...'Try Tonight',"

You held your delicate little stringed instrument in your hands and began gently strumming it.

As your soft voice filled the room, you tried to keep your eyes closed so you could just sing and play from your heart.

But you kept fluttering your eyes open to peer at the bounty hunter who seemed to be watching you very carefully.

Although the lyrics you were singing had been written for another love from your past, you felt almost as if you were singing them to the mysterious man.

"A dark room in the night time,

is how he spends all his time...

If he could go on without your help,

You opened your big twinkling eyes wide and stared him down as you kept singing.

"I don't think he got strength to muster,

As you dreamily crossed the stage, you could still feel his steely gaze following you, like a hunter stalking its prey.

It felt almost like a little game. You couldn't fathom how you were being so playful and lighthearted about trying to flirt with a guy like him.

A man who's killed for money countless times before, and still continues to.

But it felt fun.

As you finished the song, the crowd went from dead silent to sudden applause.

You sweetly offered them a curtsey, shyly playing with your hair as you found your way off the stage and into the back again.

Slipping out through a back door, you decided you wanted to get some fresh air and catch your breath.

Your legs seemed to shake as you stood outside, leaning up against the wall and thinking about what you just did.

Then after a couple of minutes, there were footsteps.

As well as the distinct sound of jingling.

It was him.

You froze in place as he approached.

"You have a very sweet voice."

He stood a few inches away from you, but the way his gravely tone came through his helmet sent little vibrations through your body.

You hadn't heard him speak the last time he came around, so it caught you off guard.

"Oh, thank you very much," You felt your face get hot as you tried not to stare too hard at his helmet, letting your eyes wander around.

He noticed.

"What's the matter? You didn't seem to have a difficult time keeping your eyes on me before."

You could have fallen over right then and there if not for the fact that your back was resting on the wall behind you.

Stifling a giggle, you replied, "I wasn't lookin' at you. I was lookin' at someone else..."

"That so?" He pressed.

You couldn't quite tell if he was being playful or trying to interrogate you. His speech was so steady and unwavering.

You nodded, lying through your teeth, "Uh huh. I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong idea..."

"You're spoken for?" He asked.

Despite it being a question, it came out much more like a command or a statement.

You shook your head, "Mm-mm...last guy I was with wasn't too wise with his recreational substances...I've been on my own ever since."

Fett clenched his fist.

He hated spice and all other things like it. He was very measured with everything he did and he didn't find it enjoyable to partake in such things. He loathed most pleasures of the flesh, except for maybe...

Truthfully, he was surprised he took Slave I all the way out to this dump more than once, but ever since he saw you for the first time, he couldn't seem to let it go.

The idea of you being here made him feel somewhat sick. He knew a girl like you most likely deserved much better.

Your honeyed voice washed over him in waves the first time he heard it.

He was far from a sensitive man, but he almost felt himself soften when he heard you. The way you sang reminded him of home. He wasn't nostalgic for anything, really.

It just felt familiar. An old memory that he liked.

It was sugary, and warm, and pleasing to his ears.

His presence loomed over you, the moonlight behind him outlining his silhouette, but giving him a pretty glowing view of your form.

"Idiot."

The comment was low but you heard it clearly.

You sighed, "He certainly was...I told him I never liked that stuff...Just like how it smells, really."

You felt the need to explain yourself.

"We weren't as close as the song might have you think...my mind does funny things...turns nothin' into somethin' and makes a sticky sweet daydream out of a nightmare...I only kissed him a couple times here an' there."

It was almost like that T-shaped stare was just drawing all the information out of you without even trying.

He slowly nodded, seemingly relaxing.

"Are you not here doin' a job?" you asked, gently kicking around some dirt beneath your feet and batting your eyelashes at him.

"Just personal matters." He replied, simply.

"Oh...Well I don't wanna hold you up," you bit your lip.

"I'm taking my time."

A long silence followed.

"What's the personal stuff?"

"If I told you it wouldn't be very personal."

A longer silence.

"Well...I think I oughta get back inside before they worry about me-"

"What's keeping you here?" His stern voice cut you off.

You raised an eyebrow, feeling your pulse quicken, "Who's askin'?"

You waited.

No answer.

"I was exiled from my home planet for...reasons. Destiny brought me here, I suppose."

That word hit Fett like a seismic charge.

Exiled.

He recalled his own exile back on Concord Dawn when he was a Journeyman Protector.

When he went by his original name.

Jaster Mereel.

He couldn't imagine the girl before him being exiled from her planet. You looked too sweet and innocent, albeit a little presumptuous.

The way you tested fate and decided to stare him down while you were up on stage made him wonder what kind of girl you had been on your home planet.

He reached his gloved hand out towards your face and gently lifted your chin so you would stop shifting your eyes around and focus on him.

"A girl like you doesn't belong out here."

Truthfully, in this very moment, he found himself wanting to make a wife out of you with the way you looked into the dark void of his helmet.

"You know somewhere nice?" You blinked at him curiously.

Fett tilted his head down and muttered a curse underneath his breath in his native language, letting go of your face.

It was a language unknown to you or probably anyone around here.

He couldn't be getting involved with any women like this.

It seemed too dangerous. He needed to be focused. He didn't need to be worrying about anyone.

"You should get back inside." He stated.

Fett slowly turned around and began walking away.

"Wait! Where are you going?" You called out to him, sounding far more desperate than you wanted to.

There was no reply.

"Will you ever come back for me?" You asked.

There's that presumptuousness.

He stopped walking and turned back to you again.

He nodded very subtly.

You felt a little jolt of electricity rush through you before a pang of sadness cut through your chest.

You didn't want him to leave.

Not now.

You barely knew him but you wanted him.

"Hey! Where have you been? Get back in here!" Saa'leena's familiar voice snapped you out of your haze as her hand wrapped around your wrist and dragged you inside through the backdoor.

"Were you outside talking to that bounty hunter?" She interrogated you.

"Only for a little..." You shuffled your feet, feeling embarrassed.

She gave you that little look of 'I told ya so', before telling you to get back out to the bar area.

Your heart ached like it never ached before.

He would come back, wouldn't he?

Boba Fett was slowly making his way back to where he left Slave I, deep in his thoughts, until he heard that same voice that irked him from earlier.

He remembered what it said very distinctly.

"I bet she purrs like a pretty little Loth-cat."

He turned his head to the source of the irritating noise.

This time the man seemed to be far more intoxicated as he was slurring his words and roughhousing with one of his friends that was walking alongside him.

He slowly approached, saying nothing, only alerting the men of his presence by the sound of his boots.

They gradually started to recognize him as the drunken smirks began to dissolve off their faces.

"Hey...What's up, man? Wanna drink?" The man nervously asked, holding out an unopened bottle of an unknown substance with a shaky hand.

Fett said nothing.

He simply watched them for a moment.

Then he raised his blaster and shot the man directly through his chest.

The man's face was stunned as he stumbled back and fell down, succumbing to the wound.

His friends ran off in a panic without a second thought.

He turned away and proceeded back to his ship.

Boba Fett would be back. He was a man of his word.

If he said he was going to do something, he would do it.

"Soon." He muttered to himself.

i am going to dump a bit of lore on your doorstep (by copy and pasting smth i wrote on discord a few days ago) so i can give context to something i have drawn

disclaimer: it may be long and wordy. but thats what its all about baby

"in short i finally figured out how Arthur gets their name.

so to preface this i must offer. context. be warned this is gonna be one of those Rambles.

before we begin, i am debating on whether or not i should keep the 'arthur possessing gidget' thing, change it to where they possess chip (?), or get rid of it... my reasoning being: i think it makes more sense for arthur to be closer to chip especially cuz they end up as siblings in the end, ALSO i dont remember why gigi had to be the one that was possessed and i think the story would work just fine if it was somebody else.

in fact itd probably work even better with chip not only bc the theming of Being In The Wrong Body and everyone claiming u r somebody youre not works even better if its with chip, it also works cuz chip in the story is frequently like... whats the word. overlooked. or not taken seriously.

but anyways:

two, there is a plot point sometime during chip & gidget's stay in the castelle manor in which everyone but chip is trapped inside a dream by moonlight (in the waking world they are all asleep & cant wake up) bc she is searching their dreams in order to find Arthur (and kill them)

hopefully that doesnt sound. too convoluted. ah. anyways. something something chip teams up w arthur to enter their dreams and wake them up. i think.

i think probably arthur was either forced into going w chip or he agreed relunctantly, but (assuming he is still possessing someone) chip asks arthur if they can see his real face. and he agrees but in a way that makes it clear he is Lying

they wake up in (.....i dont think i have a solid name for this place yet. i think i called it Space 2 in my lore doc for the bit but i think itll be called 'otherside')

and Arthur just looks like a weird version of [whoever they were possessing at the time.] chip comments on it and art's like 'oh you mean my REAL REAL face yeah ok let me. um.' (they change into an exact copy of chip.) 'Better?'

at this point it is becoming clear that arthur might not have a 'real face,' but chip doesnt know that yet

meanwhile there is some chatter between the two, w arthur passively explaining who Midnight and Moonlight are. ALSO there is a fun fact i think about moonlight canonically having a preference for Women & that Arthur's pre-death appearance was modelled after the first human woman. i think. at one point they get onto the topic of art and chip asks Arthur if they like to draw, in which they respond: 'no.' Riveting.

something something climactic point where arthur breaks down and finally admits that they dont have a body, dont have any of their powers, and they cant even remember what theyre supposed to look like. he says that he feels useless!

& then chip says something like 'you dont have to have powers to like. create stuff.'

and then they draw together :]

chip agrees to help give him a "new face" so to speak by drawing him a FURSONA (it is a JACKRABBIT with a RAINCOAT AND UMBRELLA and an EYEPATCH and like. epic scars. and two swords. and a pet dolphin & demon wings. and other convoluted detailed design elements akin to that of a sparkledog) which they lovingly name 'Arthur.' (maybe w a last name like 'skullcrusher' or soemthing)

and arthur like draws his own version of that. which is Close to what Arthur's design is currently. & he's like 'yeah. so um. uhh. close your eyes i cant do it while youre looking.'

(chip puts their paws over their eyes.) 'um ok! what are you doing?'

'im gonna show you the real me.'

& then he looks like the character he drew."

This is a continuation of the previous post.. aand this one was harder to sort out.. The transition to AU was quite smooth and uncertain, I still couldn't decide whether I should continue to stick to designs that were close to the canon with only minor changes, or succumb to the temptation to draw closer to what my former friend created in order to meet his vision.. because to some extent, I also liked the idea of them having demonic parts like horns, tails, wings.. and at the same time, so that they are similar, but have slight differences. But, we're not there yet.. I can say that this drawing is still my pride I still love how Corrupt came out on this one.

I think I should explain this better, since the original description doesn't really explain much.. These are the consequences of his "broken" state, when the voice of the corruption in his head breaks his will enough to take control of him. In this state, his strong negative emotions and instincts are largely responsible for his actions, and only a small part of his mind remains conscious. It is enough that certain actions of centrain people could return him to a normal state.. Otherwise, he becaming merciless and more cruel, his original sadistic nature can get the better of him, but for the most part he is driven by pain himself. Prefix in his name is a reference to his original one, because even now some people call him or Soul "Evil Boyfriend" instead of Corrupt(ed) BF..

It was art for an RP, if I remember correctly and as far as I remember, it was a bit of a weird RP. But Corrupt showed his feelings by ripping his clothes to bandage Soul. Perhaps this was the moment when Corrupt really began to show concern and was ready to help, even if he did not know what to do..

..Corrupt is quite jealous when it comes to someone he considers his own. He also doesn't like BF, for a variety of reasons. So he didn't miss the chance to destroy this little idyll of theirs.

Everything that happens in role-playing could often be reflected in my drawings, so after Corrupt tore his jacket into bandages, he lost it. It's good for him that he's not sensitive to temperatures too much to worry about. But, he started wearing a mask. This is due to the fact that at some point Soul (represented by my former friend) began to be afraid of Corrupt because of his “scary” face. (Anf it's strange that this didn't bother you before, buddy..) As a result, Corrupt simply decided to cover part of his face with a mask so as not to look so scary to him. But to be honest, even so, Corrupt was offended by this.

This was the moment when my ex-friend was having a difficult time in his life, and it made me worry about him. I decided to draw him this art as support.. just as Corrupt would care about Soul.

Corrupt isn't difficult to get angry. But Soul has always been one of those whom he wouldn't hurt even at the peak of his rage. And Soul was the only one he would listen to. What was the reason of his rage here?.. Just some other Corrupt appeared around, who was trying to get closer to Soul, too. So my Corrupt simply didn't tolerate competition and tried to solve everything on the same spot.. in a violent way. Someone was lucky that Soul was able to hold him.

Even despite the conflicts, Corrupt is still ready to tolerate some of Soul’s antics. It seems to me that Soul takes advantage of this at times, fully aware of this.
