im sorry for this rant KO, but why on earth is the bonus content for nightfall is the start of the horsemen? Like omfg. I really dont need it to exist because i like the mystery of them. Why can't we just have a willemmy bonus 😭 i'm so fucking upset. I initially wanted to pre-order the paperback but thinking about that whole alex drama in BC, i didn't, thank the lord for that! But i was still hoping for a willemmy bonus or maybe a will or emmy's back story, but we're getting to see Damon, A-FUCKING-GAIN? How many fucking bonus do we have to see him??! Fuck, i'm so upset, idk who to rant this with because i don't talk about this series to anybody irl.
Excerpt from PD's insta:
DAMON GRABS HIS JACKET OFF THE COURT AND PULLS IT ON AS HE LEAVES.
"YOU OKAY?" MICHAEL ASKS KAI.
BUT KAI JUST GESTURES TO DAMON WHO PUSHES THROUGH THE HEAVY DOUBLE DOORS. "I TOLD YOU, MAN," HE BLURTS OUT TO MICHAEL. "HE'S TROUBLE."
"NO," MICHAEL QUICKLY RETORTS, LOOKING IN THE DIRECTION DAMON LEFT. "HE'S AN ENFORCER, KAI."
HIS FRIEND STARES AT HIM.
"AND EVERY TEAM NEEDS ONE," MICHAEL ADDS, DROPPING THE BASKETBALL INTO KAI'S HANDS. "TELL THE COACH I'LL BE RIGHT BACK."
end-
🥲 ngl, i'm so sick of damon's appearance, at this point not only his character wasn't my fav, pd over-pushing him makes me really hate him now. "He's the enforcer" ughhhh, and when did this branding ever came up in the devil's night series? I only remember this point being discussed here on your blog of your meta about damon's character and his implicit role in their friend group and family. Istg i really never saw his role being discussed and branded like this anywhere, so the only place it could happen was in the private chat's of their pendragon fb group or between PD and their editor/most trusted beta readers. Istg the pettier side of me feels like some of PD's fb group fans saw your discussion posts here with other anons and told on PD, then they got inspired by you ideas about "his role" in the family. Which in theory, i don't see much wrong from it, but truly, where did this role establishment and branding came from? And ofc in PD's fashion, they had to rebrand Damon's role to be positive and borderline inspiring 🙄
and fuck, who cares about logic right? Definitely not PD when they kept on writing A and meaning B in their stories, but kept on being pissed off when readers understood it as A. 🤡
at this point, i'm not even excited anymore for this bonus content. I genuinely thought something good will come out of it, but with their opinion of willemmy a few weeks ago, and now with this. Idk. But I just know and fully sure now that PD just wanted to avoid the alex-aydin-will-emmy qna discussion extra materials, because they knew they fucked that one up, and many readers hated it, and so they probably want to just bury that shit and move past it. So of course, we'll never gonna get a willemmy bonus content. Ugh. I can't fault them for wanting to move on, but for someone who wnats to move on so bad and ignore the uncomfy parts of their own mistake in writing, they sure as hell is still be talking and hinting at this series from time to time especially for their most fav characters 🙄
but fr KO, it really left a sour taste in my mouth when an author behaves like this. Penelope Douglas is just so, ugh, idk. At this point ideky i'm still hoping for them to be better tbh when they've always been known to be problematic, like they're always just so disappointing. I need to detach my feelings for books i like to read with their authors, because i'm just gonna end up upset like this. But it's so hard!!! Especially when they're indies and you like some parts of the things they put out, and can't always find it anywhere else. Ughhh. i heard that series by Monty Jay was giving DN, so i might check it out, and i really hope it's better.
+ when you get a reach of the bonus materials, will you be sharing them here and share your thoughts and opinions about them? I'm a big yapper and i just wanna yap with somebody about it frfr.
Hey. Oh man, I feel your pain.
I really dont need it to exist because i like the mystery of them. Why can't we just have a willemmy bonus
Ohh, I wish I was with you on this but I’m actually excited about it. As someone who wants to understand these characters better, and who absolutely goes bonkers over character origin stories, this is right up my alley. I never expected any kind of Willemmy scene, so maybe I’m not as disappointed as I would be otherwise.
From what I heard, there are some willemmy scenes in this origin story though! So not all hope is lost (although I don’t know how it’s supposed to make sense, since I’ve also heard that this starts during their freshmen year and Emmy’s a year younger so… but whatever. I’m just happy for the moments!)
I am so sorry that this isn’t what you wanted!
Istg the pettier side of me feels like some of PD's fb group fans saw your discussion posts here with other anons and told on PD, then they got inspired by you ideas about "his role" in the family. Which in theory, i don't see much wrong from it, but truly, where did this role establishment and branding came from?
As much as this idea tickles me, the fact is that this was probably written months ago, and I only really had that discussion with in the past few weeks. More than likely, we were just picking up on something PD was implying the entire time.
But I just know and fully sure now that PD just wanted to avoid the alex-aydin-will-emmy qna discussion extra materials, because they knew they fucked that one up, and many readers hated it, and so they probably want to just bury that shit and move past it.
I’m still holding out of that pinterest board and discussion questions (though, it may be a lost cause). It just seems so stupid that they’d withhold those two things since they’re so minor compared to the bonus scene.
they sure as hell is still be talking and hinting at this series from time to time especially for their most fav characters
Coming from a writer’s perspective, it’s hard to let your favs go. Long after the other characters stop “speaking” to you, your favs come back. You still see them doing stuff. And PD is proud of the series, so of course they’re not going to bury it.
But yes, I agree that the fandom has been pretty loud about wanting some more willemmy content for some closure, and it shouldn’t be this hard to sit and think about the characters and deliver something, just to be kind to your readers and fans. I can’t say why PD is so resistant to it, but that’s for them to know.
i heard that series by Monty Jay was giving DN, so i might check it out, and i really hope it's better.
I had to look it up, and I’m assuming you’re speaking about the hollow boys? I haven’t read it, but if you do get around to it, I hope you enjoy it.
Regarding PD, I hardly ever look into the background of an author or give them a second thought. I also have never had the desire to contact an author, or do meet and greets or anything, that’s just me. So, I’ve never had the issue of needing to detach a work from an author, but I can see the struggle.
+ when you get a reach of the bonus materials, will you be sharing them here and share your thoughts and opinions about them? I'm a big yapper and i just wanna yap with somebody about it frfr.
I absolutely will share my thoughts, of course! I might do a reading react, or just a summary of my thoughts, whatever feels right. Again, I feel for your frustration and disappointment. The let down is never easy, but you'll read better books in the future. This isn't the last of it for you. So look forward to finding your next favorite read.

dude not to geek out over japanese poetry but ono no komachi is just, gahhhhhh,,, the man'yōshū has some wonderful poems scattered about it and i would love to translate some of them once i get better at japanese;; one of dreams is to be good enough at japanese that i can read nakahara's poetry without much difficulty; (speaking of have you read the very simple tribute/ that kusano shinpei wrote post-nakahara's death,,, it's so delicate and casual but packs so much emotion in four measley lines)
I love ono no komachi!! I've been learning japanese on and off for like 3 now and I'm still so bad at it 😭 but translating poetry is so difficult I'm so in awe of u I hope u get to translate stuff soon! u already might've read it but if u haven't I highly recommend the ink dark moon not just because of the poems but also because it has a wonderful appendix with detailed notes on how the poems were translated and every poem in its original (romaji) form (it's also where I learnt abt kakekotoba or pivot words). Also I haven't heard of the poem you mentioned but I'm gonna look it up <3 not to recommend another poem and keep going around in circles rn but since we are speaking of poems written as a tribute izumi shikibu's poems written after her daughter's death are very beautiful (and so is her last poem!)
#asks#i think i have excerpts from that book on my blog I'll check#also wait by nakahara do u mean chuya or is it someone else 😭?#japanese poetry

i'm a little more than halfway done with jkr's book about social media. i've mentioned before that the most explored concern with slain cartoonist's work is ableism and imo she picked this deliberately because one of the protagonists in her detective series is a disabled veteran who wears a prosthetic leg
(he's also the neglected child of a rockstar and a super groupie, which seems like an incredibly childish backstory to give your protagonist, but that isn't the point.)
here's an excerpt she includes from a yourfaveisproblematic style blog called "pen of justice", which is dated 2014 within narrative:
obviously guy with absent calf views this with condescension. her inclusion of a very weak and undeveloped position on disability rights is also incredibly mean-spirited.
joanne has two theses that she's working with: people in the vaguely defined social justice internet subculture are liable to serve as useful idiots for the alt-right's ulterior motives, and that badly articulated positions will be the functional death of progressivism.
as many gripes as i have with the online left, these are really bad theories of fascism. she name checks marc lépine and julius evola (favored ideologue of mussolini) directly, but it somehow doesn't register that fascism has a philosophical and historical tradition that hasn't scapegoated "sjws" until recently, and even that exists primarily on the republicancore superficial level of it. or torycore, since it's the uk. same difference.
maybe if joanne had bothered to read anything evola wrote on gender, she'd realize that they share a theory of physical differences between biological sexes being representative of spiritual differences, even though they extrapolate different things from this basal idea. and maybe she'd realize that she's been the useful idiot this whole time, because this line of thinking is critical for fascism to self-justify. but expecting her to do research seems like i'm asking a bit much of her.
that, and bad ideas in progressive movements tend to disappear given ample time and (good faith) critique. a popular feminist talking point of the 1970s was that pms was a fiction of patriarchal psychiatry, but you don't hear that one much if at all these days. likewise, making 2hr long youtube videos about "steven universe is garbage and here's why" is widely considered, amongst the zoomer intelligentsia, to be "posting cringe". it can't be a fatal flaw when people move on.
i'll post more #bookburns when i'm closer to being done with this pitiful excuse of a novel, but that's my main takeaway for now.

Hello again, this is the same anon from here
Honestly any fanfic would do, a series or one shot that seems to have really good writing. I've been trying to look for well written one shots for awhile on tumblr. My friend on here actually introduced me to your blog, they speak very highly of you. But other than your blog I did find people who write in detail but they're from another fandom sadly:(
A questio, do you know the self aware twisted wonderland AU? It's a very interesting AU. You should see the one shots made for the AU although they don't write in detail as much but their ideas for said AU is very interesting, nowadays most of the things being posted about the AU is all about writing letters to your favorite characters instead of one shots so that's why I was hoping you could give me a few recommendations:)
ohhhh i think i understand better now yes. and yes, i know about the self-aware AU! it was popular in the mysmes fandom too haha, it's a fun au for any game. i think a couple of writers have done their take on it so i don't really know who you're referring to or who did it first haha
regardless i guess i'll recommend fics (and honestly? just writers) i personally enjoy, and you can see if they're to your taste as well! or you can scroll through their masterlists yourself! and also this is my opportunity to talk about my talented mutuals oopsies
sorry for the tags pls forgive me hehe 🤗
i already talked about this in a post a few months ago, but i love anything written by @traumxrei-archive !! one of trau's leona fics titled "the shape of one's heart" is an easy new favorite of mine, i love character studies so much and screams and falls into a pit. and speaking of series! trau has a mini series based on fairy gala, fittingly named "the fairy gala collection"... and then and then just... trau's fics <3 heart eyes only!!
these are short but intimate... which makes sense because "fondness found amongst fleeting intimacy" [part 1 w/ idia, vil, mal, crewel] [part 2 w/ savanaclaw boys] by @twsthearts i just think about them every so often, the title itself enraptured me and i was just compelled to read and i had no regrets knox if u see this i adore ur writing sm i always feel like i'm reading one of my poetry books or the diaries of novelists excerpts from your works feel like they belong on a book, and then a pinterest girlie will be so in love they'll scan it and post it on their board
@twstedstoryshop hi okay so i'm going to admit i haven't finished shopkeep's full catalogue yet but i'm going to say "convenient marriage" (deuce historical AU) is probably my favorite bc i just... historical AUs, but i also enjoy "funny thing called fate" (azul soulmate AU) because i'm predictable and I think soulmate AUs are the best!!
@kaiijo ying...!!! such charming writing...! "magnetic" (azul frenemies to lovers) might be to your taste! although i am a simple human and the love triangle [part 1] [part 2] ones are my favorites dreamy sighing
i haven't actually read any of these yet (bc i want to binge all of them in one day oops) but since you mentioned series of one shots i thought of "the who does the prefect like" collab bc some of my (again, talented!) mutuals are participating in it i think it's worth checking out!
these are all i can think of right now off the top of my head that you might enjoy but if i think of more i'll reblog this!
anyway to whoever else is reading this feel free to recommend me some fics as well because i have not been reading a lot of fanfic lately hjsjsjsd i haven't had the time to finish my mutuals masterlists cries +++
i would love to follow more people ahhhh give me your recs <3
#—nathyask#—anonnie#and if you do enjoy those writers you can scroll through their blog for fics theyve reblogged as well!

Wow I love your blog so much! Do you find all these literature excerpts by your self?
Thank you! And no, I don't - the majority of the stuff I find, I find because I've looked for it; I'll often use other web weaving blogs here on tumblr, as well as going through the spilled ink tag for original content. I also use the Goodreads quote search function a lot, although frequently I have to wade through a lot of shit things that don't fit what I'm looking for before I find anything usable.
I'll also refer to articles from websites like Buzzfeed or Ranker which, again, often contain a lot of stuff I don't end up using, but can often point me in the direction of films or songs or books that are worth checking out. Only about 20% of the stuff that ends up in my weaves are things that I knew about before I started making a web, so it's very much a learning experience for me - that's why I try not to stick too closely to any one topic, as it helps me improve my backcatalog, as it were, and with every web (I hope) I get better at researching and fitting themes.
Before I started web weaving, I always thought that to do it you have to be incredibly well read, but all you really need to know how to do is get good at searching, copying and cutting. There is very much an element of impostor syndrome where I feel like I'm tricking people into thinking I'm smarter than I am - so answering asks like this to set the record straight, as it were, do really help with that. Thanks for the question!

@aheartundercrossfire No screens is the first go-to here, too.
Basically, I have never been consistent long term about anything in my life, and I have just been repeatedly banging my head against the same troubles for enough years now, that I have a small list of really really specific tasks to undertake daily or almost daily in terms of chores that, if done daily, will really improve the quality of my housekeeping. Things like: literally nothing is more important after a meal or snack than doing the dishes, do not leave the kitchen, seriously do not put it off, you will regret it.
I am following two separate streams of advice. 1) Group habits to make change. For example, instead of just saying "I'll pray every day in x way," I'm grouping prayer with coffee. I never skip morning coffee. Instead of having computer time with my coffee, I'm going to do coffee and spiritual reading/journaling. 2) I am rereading basically the entirety of the Like Mother Like Daughter blog in the form of her new book, The Summa Domestica. Strongly recommend, and it's on sale right now! Or, in lieu of the book, just check out the blog.
Here, for example, is a page I was reading today, from vol. 3: Housekeeping:
And then there's the title of chapter 4: "How To Make Dinner Every Day and Like It."
I will never forget when I was first investigating the Charlotte Mason method for homeschooling and I was reading the blog, the Archipelago. It was like: all the pieces of an education like this can sound overwhelming listed out in syllabus form, but it's really quite organic once you get the rhythm of it. Imagine if you listed out all the individual steps of making dinner. It looks ridiculous on paper, so many pieces and steps, but when do you it, it's not nearly so complicated.
So I read that, and I'm like, actually making dinner is extremely overwhelming, there are way too many pieces and steps. If I can't even handle dinner, how can I handle education??
That was ~4 years ago? Making dinner is slightly less overwhelming now, especially when I am caught up on the dishes and my counters are clear. CM purists would not like how our days tend to go, but I'm getting the rhythm, and seeing the fruits. And yet, I have rough stretches - avoidable rough stretches. And, as "Auntie Leila" points out in her posts/book, whether you have dinner and laundry under control are actually intimately related to whether you have education under control.
In the same chapter as the excerpt above, she talks about doing the minimum necessary, and doing it well enough. And how when we reach that point, we find that everything kind of gently improves, all over. It makes me think, a rising tide lifts all boats.
Maybe that makes little sense outside my own head, but that's the outline of my Lent, and the details are just the particular messes in my particular house and habits.

FAQ
Hi, I’m Anna! I never thought I’d have a blog popular enough to need one of these, but I keep getting asked the same question over and over again, so I figured that if I’m going to make a pinned post addressing that one, I may as well make it informative.
What is The People’s Tomb?
The People’s Tomb is a TLT Discord server that I made on a whim with a couple of friends because we wanted to talk about TLT in a more coherent fashion than tumblr allows. It is not the big Locked Tomb discord that’s been around forever, although it has grown quite a bit since we started it. It’s a bit more relaxed as well, which is one of the luxuries that being a bit smaller affords it. It’s a fun time.
Can I get an invite to The People’s Tomb?
I don’t know! I’m no longer a moderator for the server - you would have to ask one of the current mods. At the time of this post, @frostryn is the server’s owner and the one to ask. There are other mods as well - I just don’t know all of their tumblrs. Server invites are technically closed to prevent the population from ballooning out of control, but when I was a mod, our policy was to let in most people who asked, as long as they weren’t obviously a terrible person. I haven’t seen any indication that that policy has changed.
Why aren’t you a mod anymore?
Because I didn’t want to be! My real life is much more overwhelming than it once was, and managing and engaging with the server has gotten a lot more involved than it used to be in its early days. I still hang out on it from time to time (mostly to lurk) and me and the other founders remain on good terms. There’s no secret drama to ferret out - I’m really proud of the way the server has continued to grow, and I’m proud of the current mods for rising to the challenge of managing it!
Can I ask you about The People’s Tomb?
Please don’t. I’m just going to direct you to one of the current mods.
Can I ask you about other things?
Sure! My ask box is very open, and I love discussing anything TLT, and many things that are only tangentially related.
What tags do you use?
I don’t spoiler tag for this series, although I probably will for awhile once Alecto comes out. You can view my old asks at #asks, boringly enough. Back when I was just a TLT blog everything else got tagged #not tlt. For my surprisingly strong opinions about cavaliers and their main gauches, check #offhand discourse. For my very favorite rarepair, which you are absolutely missing out on, check #dulcianthe.
I also post my own writing from time to time! My general catchall tag for that is #my writing, but I specifically tag my original fiction as #original fiction. My most recent finished project is #memoirs of a flesh eater; you can start with the first entry, or check the master post for specific excerpts.
I read a lot of wlw fiction. My recommendations and reviews are #the wlw review. If you have something specific you want out of a book, send me an ask and I'll see if I know something that fits!
I think that’s everything!

A Brief Introduction
I'm not sure how to write this first post. Or how any of this works.
For the past year now I have written more than I ever have before. I have very recently returned from 9 months living in Australia, where I finished two whole journals, full of my thoughts & experiences whilst there. I'm still writing every single day. Some days I think "This is really great." and others not so much. I've made it a priority to write regardless of how I feel or how little I'm up to. The writing process has become detrimental to my mental health over this past year. It's a very comforting thing to have my journals to confide in and I've often managed to tap into my creativity for the first time in years. I've wanted to do a blog like this for a while where I upload those same pieces and hopefully get some feedback on them. It seems odd that I've poured my soul into those journals and I've never let anybody see whats inside them.
What I'm doing at the moment
I'm back home in England and I'm living with my sister and her family in Surrey, which is about a 40 minute train journey from Central London. I'm now in the process of waiting for a D.B.S (police check) so I can restart my old job at the care home that I previously worked 2 years at before my recent travels. At the moment my days are consisting of listening to multiple albums, playing indecent amounts of Football Manager 2020, writing in my journal and drinking countless cups of tea. Its okay at the moment but I feel lost without work, almost purposeless sometimes. I've come to realise that feeling like that is just part of life and you've got to find ways to appreciate the mundane because lets face it, there's a lot of it!
Music
I consider my main passion in life to be music. I didn't grow up around music and truthfully didn't have even the slightest interest in it until I was about 14. Nowadays I try to listen to a vast range of material from all genres and expand my knowledge as much as I possibly can. My interest initially started with Hip-Hop/Rap when I was in secondary school and for a while I listened almost exclusively to that genre. I loved the idea of these amazing artists growing up in often volatile environments and elegantly telling their stories through their music with such profound wisdom and clarity. I still love it. Hip-Hop music and culture is massively important to me and I always do my best to make sure I'm up-to-date with new records.
A few years ago I bought this book called '1001 Albums to Listen to Before You Die' and I've sifted through that at a comfortable pace. I love talking about music with others and even have a bit of a hobby of writing album reviews from time-to-time. Its something I will eventually do on this Blog as well as interviews with up-and-coming artists. I'd just like to speak with them about their love for music, what got them interested in it and where they see themselves taking it. That stuff really interests me.
What is the purpose of this Blog?
If I'm honest, I'm really not too sure what I want it to be or even what I want it to look like. I'd like to upload excerpts from my journals and get feedback on them as pieces of writing, hopefully gaining a small audience of viewers. I think that one of the next steps in improving my writing skills will be for me to receive some constructive criticism.
Who am I?
I'll go by 'From Blyth' on here for privacy reasons. I'm a 22-year-old guy originally from Blyth, Northumberland in the North-East of England (Hence my Blog name) I moved down to Surrey in the South of England when I was 6 when my parents got divorced and have been here ever since. I'm a care assistant in a residential care home for the elderly, a job which I really enjoy for the most part. I've recently gotten the bug for travelling after my 9 month stint living in Australia, which was the furthest that I've ever been from home. Truthfully I'm wanting to travel again ASAP, whether its back to the land Down Under or a weekend trip to Kraków, I'm up for more-or-less any destination on the map. I love seeing new things and having new experiences as often as possible.
Thank you for reading!
