Ironically, after taking me out of years of kdrama slump, Lovely Runner is going to leave me with a worse slump sniff. This might even surpass any romance kdrama I've watched before as it's focused on the romance first and it didn't go off the rails on the 2nd half. Ryu Sun Jae, pls take responsibility, chuseyo.
Guys I'm still so not over it. As part of "Kidnap Sun Jae and Run" Addicts Anonymous, let me help you cope through this 10 step program:
1. Play OST nonstop
"I Think I Did" and "Sonaki" will definitely be 'memories embedded in my soul' for playing the OST nonstop from when I wake up until I sleep.
It's going to be a tragedy if Byeon Woo Seok doesn't sing any of these live on his upcoming fanmeets. Pls pls pls k-ent gods.
2. Rewatch from the start
Undoubtedly one of my comfort watches from now on. I knew it was going to be good when near end of ep 1, Younha's iconic "Umbrella" song started playing, Sun Jae was walking towards a crying Sol, held the blue umbrella to shield her while he's getting rained on. Aww. I'm so soft for these scenes. (Deja vu to Bogum's MDBC anyone?)
3. If time is limited, watch the last 10 mins of every ep where writer-nim always saves the fireworks till the end!
In ep 2, the OG "I Think I Did" started playing, where a smiling Sol held the yellow umbrella to Sun Jae, and he hopelessly fell for her, is now going down as one of the most iconic scenes in kdrama romance. I'm usually not a fan of instacrush. But their relationship naturally developed more when they got close, during that stretch of Sun Jae's swimming injury plot.
4. For masochists like me, rewatch all the times Sol rejects Sun Jae. Ugh it hurts, but it hurts so good. A lot of rejections, but these 2 scenes...
In ep 9, when college Sol drunkenly curses Sun Jae as "pabo" for always going back to her, when she just keeps on hurting him. But he can't help himself. Sniff.
In ep 12, the setup before that train scene, where Sol asks Sun Jae not to cry when she leaves him to go back to the future. Then cut to next day on the train when she tricks Sun Jae and leaves him alone on the train, and of course Sun Jae can't keep his promise and his tears fall. Simply drama magic.
5. Rewatch the kissing scenes!
Sadly, nothing quite matched that ep 8, very hooot kiss between the 2 now adult Sun Jae and Sol. Sol discovers Sun Jae still pines for her all these years, and Sol finally admitting to him about her true feelings, the pent up feelings for 15 years in that kiss...,whew (fans self)!
6. Rewatch all my fave scenes!
That cherry blossom proposal scene is one of the most beautifully shot ones I've ever seen, glad he axed the first one lol. And a picture of the future wedding scene though imaginary for now! It's our reward for suffering for 15 eps lol.
7. Read and like all LR related posts, bts, stills, fanart.
You know it's a hit when fanart is everywhere, and I can change to a new Sun Jae-Sol wallpaper everyday and bask on the gorgeousness of BWS .
By the way, that latest clip of the live watch with the cast and where BWS is crying in gratitude sniff. He knows his life is also changed forever by this drama. Deserving! I was always intrigued by BWS's looks before, and he really surprised me with his acting, he also has great comedic timing!
It's just rare nowadays that the drama has the whole package, I love the cast and their characters too.
8. Read and like all posts related to BWS and KHY, and the cast.
Kim Hye Yoon poured her heart out on this drama, she really carried it.
I didn't get to talk about the rest of the cast yet. At first, I was getting used to some of the 'over the top' comedy, but by that condom confusion scene, I was laughing too. I love that all of the cast is just going for it even if it's bonkers crazy. But my fave has to be adult celeb Sun Jae's assistant who has this hilarious deadpan face and delivery of lines, and always has that 'tsk tsk what a loser' look of scorn towards Sun Jae, when his boss is at his most embarassing lovesick self mwahah.
9. Recommend LR to every unsuspecting person, let's spread the addiction, and destroy their lives too lol!
10. If still not recovered, go back to step 1! Good luck!

Love Attack (2023)
Tumblr media
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Plot:
Tired of always being ranked second in class behind Kyung J00, Seok Jin decides to try to distract her from studying by launching a "love attack" on his academic rival.
Cast & Crew:
Kim Do Hoon as Cha Seok Jin
Chae Won Bin as Kang Kyung Joo
Supporting cast - Heo Jin, Park Sung Joon, Nam Joong Gyu, Baek Hyo Won, Han Ye Ji
Director - Lee Hyun Kyung
Screen Writer - Choi Yi Kyung
Music:
The chosen music fit the drama special well.
Awards: Best Actress in Drama Special/TV Cinema (Chae Won Bin) - KBS Drama Awards 2023
Overall:
It’s been way too long since my last drama special, long time no see!
Tumblr media
So many people told me about how cute this one was so I’ve been saving it for a rainy day. I’ve been sick for the last couple of weeks and the weather is miserable so I decided it was time. My sources were correct, this drama special is certified adorable and had me smiling, laughing and almost crying along the way.
Tumblr media
The story centres on Seok Jin who appears to have it all - looks, money, brains, however, he is perpetually stuck in second place thanks to his rival number one student Kyung Joo who despite working a million part time jobs still takes the number one spot. Things are going to change, however, as Kyung Joo is taking off to study abroad… or is she? How can Seok Jin possibly change his fate as a second place student? Hint: it’s the title of the drama… A LOVE ATTACK!
Tumblr media
This drama special has a lot of things I like in a drama; fake dating, cute youthful hijinx, cast chemistry, a cute halmeoni, gorgeous countryside trips with autumn foliage, shots of delicious food, and a nice backing track. All this combined into an almost perfect watch experience for me.
Tumblr media
I think that the writer did a decent job plotting out the story over the just short time frame, honouring the lead character’s journeys. Although it was so cute I could have taken a little more than what we got. Based on this I am now keen to watch the writer’s other special Dog Days of Summer.
Tumblr media
Throughout the drama I was often reminded of Park Hyung Shik and Park Shin Hye’s characters in Doctor Slump as if these kids could be an alternate universe version of them. I loved those characters and their journey too.
Tumblr media
The cast were all familiar faces and they did a good job of making their roles believable from the sad drunk friend to the sweet little halmeoni who doesn’t want her granddaughter missing out on life experiences.
Tumblr media
Overall, I really enjoyed this drama special and if you are in need of something short and sweet it’s well worth a watch.
Rating: 9.5/10

2022 kdrama/movie roundup!
It was a tough year for keeping up with anything because life, toddler, etc, but here are the things I watched, in part or whole, that I remembered. Hot Takes Incoming!
Sell Your Haunted House - Jang Nara in boots. Kang Mal-geum in dark lipstick. Touching, gay, many mother issues. The girls were fantastic. The boys weren't bad.
25 21 - I was dropped back into the 90s. Surprisingly, I didn't hate it. The girls were fantastic. Na Hee-do was correct to dump Baek Yi-jin. Moon Ji-woong, perfect boy. Ji Seung-wan for PRESIDENT!
Why Her? - Someone thought it'd be a great idea to throw Seo Hyun-jin's ex-client (shudder) current-student (TRIPLE SHUDDER) Hwang In-yeop into the romance mix when billionaire CHOI YOUNG-JOON and Crown Prince Bae In-hyuk were already there. And they thought it'd be funny if Hwang In-yeop won. NO.
Eve - The superior commentary this year on the horrors of capitalism. It ends with reparations (Park Byung-eun hands over his entire empire to Seo Yeji, who promptly divests it), rich people dying in horrible ways and Seo Yeji doing the tango. Were the makjang knobs dialled up so high they're broken? Yes. Was it fun? YES, because I got to see Park Byung-eun's range, which includes Pained Hottie, and Seo Yeji running men's feet over in cars wearing couture. We can ask for no more.
Juvenile Justice - No one asked "What happens if we take three of the most charismatic working actors in Korean entertainment today and squeezed the life out of them?" But someone answered anyway.
My Liberation Notes - Lee El, a revelation. Mr Gu, a revelation when he started talking, and not the good kind.
Grid - Kim Mu-yeol. Kim Ah-joong and Jang So-yeon had a great year. I didn't understand the time thing at all. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Bloody Heart - Jang Hyuk has done nothing wrong, ever. The girls were fantastic. Lee Joon, I heard your script was meant for Lee Joon-hyuk. Sorry.
Pachinko - The girls were fantastic. Kim Min-ha, baby, you're gorgeous. JUNG EUN-CHAE was everything. Sorry to Lee Min-ho, who had the tough double role of acting as Ko Hansu and also like he belonged to this cast of greats.
Our Blues - Great acting, but my own blues were sufficient for me. The girls were fantastic. Unwanted to wanted pregnancy storyline: no thanks. This is a me problem, but probably the only time I'll face it this year. Right? RIGHT?
Extraordinary Attorney Woo - 75% love; 25% NOT THIS AGAIN.
Little Women - The girls were fantastic. I ran out of air by this point in the year. I'll come back for you, gothic interior design, poison orchids, and Song Joong-ki in the best role he's played all year!
Through the Darkness - Almost too many twirling moustache psychos and dead girls. I did it for Kim Nam-gil because he's so pretty in this and in case it wasn't abundantly clear by now, I don't think with my brain. The lone living girl - Kim So-jin - was fantastic. Jin Seon-kyu, well-adjusted stealth hottie!
Reborn Rich - Samsung owes Lee Sung-min its entire semiconductor business as @rain-hat said. Lee Sung-min owes me reparations for making me watch this show for him primarily (secondarily Park Hyuk-kwon, Kim Shin-rok, Park Ji-hyun and Kim Nam-hee for their acting; Kim Young-jae because he is THE DILF). I'm manifesting NO TIMESLIPS in 2023 dramas.
Under the Queen's Umbrella - Kim Hye-soo pushing up her hanbok sleeves to carry babies and do embroidery should be projected onto my tombstone unto eternity. The girls were fantastic. And I know this is unusual, so bear with me, but: the boys? FANTASTIC ALSO.
Movies:
Vikram - Fahaadh Faasil, my thoughts are nasty and you don't want to hear them. The girls might have been fantastic had they been permitted to live and not be dumdums. That was never going to happen, of course. There was torture and a baby in significant peril, but it was also the most fun I'd had in a while. I should get my head checked.
Ponniyin Selvan - The sheer scale of work and sweat that has gone into the enterprise of making Vikram seem taller than Trisha Krishnan for the last twenty years! Iconic. The girls were fantastic.
The Naked Kitchen - This is sold as a story of a woman choosing between two men. That is a lie. It's about a man coming to terms with his marriage drifting into polyamory, and enjoying it. Shin Min-ah and Ju Ji-hoon fuck in a museum, which was also weirdly sweet.
Asura City of Madness - AHJUSSHIS WHY. Hwang Jung-min's shirttails worked very hard in 2012. Jung Woo-sung ate glass and has pathological issues about being as handsome as he is. We love him for it. We did not love this.
Hunt - Love is your bestie learning how to write and direct just to write and direct you in the role of a lifetime for you, personally. I don't know if that's what happened here, but that's what love is. And chemistry is whatever these two guys have in this completely ordinary movie that did not give any feelings. Hwang Jung-min, pussy OUT.
Decision to Leave - A well-deserved love letter to Tang Wei, just beautifully shot, gorgeous.
Il Mare - Absolutely lovely little film, reliant almost entirely on the star power of two actors who are so charismatic they don't need to meet in the movie to convince you of their romance.
Laal Singh Chaddha - There was a very beautiful wedding at the end. Aamir Khan's face must hurt.
Darlings - A movie that appreciated and respected noted hottie Shefali Shah.

KDramas have a huge pool of talent - be it the male/female leads or supporting casts. You have to sit back and just admire the variety and talent on display in terms of looks, acting, delivery, voice, everything that an actor/actress has to offer.
And it’s natural to have multiple crushes and loves in this dramaland. I started with crushing on Hyun Bin’s Captain Ri in CLOY - who wouldn’t? He was picture perfect - brooding, charming, endearing, madly in love. He looked dashing in that army uniform ( actually I do have a weakness for men in uniform). What did I know that it was the beginning of watching extremely well written male characters. I would learn later over my journey in dramaland that 90% writers are female and no wonder they wrote such fine male characters.
Tumblr media
Second stop was Descendants of the Sun, I didn’t think Captain Ri could be matched, but then I bumped into Captain Yoo SiJin. Many might be conflicted and think he was a snob and bit cocky, but I didn’t think so. He was confident in his own skin, he was shown to be the best in the business and he made sure everyone knew it - nothing wrong in that. I like male characters who are smug, but not condescending, who are sarcastic and have dry wit or a great sense of humour, who have an unfailing sense of duty , who are respectful to ladies and will do anything to protect their people. Yoo Sijin had all those qualities. Song Joong Ki is not your typical muscled, well built - six pack guy, but he carried off the Captain’s role with loads of charm and I loved his smirk. I loved watching him in The Sungkyunkwan Scandal (one of his best roles) and he looked so dapper in Vincenzo, but his Captain Yoo SiJin will always have a special place in my heart.
Tumblr media
I watched Suspicious Partner with no expectations and Ji Chang Wook as Prosecutor No Jiuk blew my mind away. I maintain that Suspicious Partner is peak Ji Chang Wook - he looked his best, he acted his best. He looked so handsome, so gorgeous , so smashing in both looks! But he in his prosecutor look with those crisp white shirts, suits and those thin rimmed Gandhi round glasses - dishy as hell! His emotions were spot on - oh how I loved his outbursts! I loved when he pined for his lady love and no one does angst as well as he does (nope this is not open for debate). To top it off his chemistry with Nam JiHyun was off the charts - a post one day for these two. My favourite couple in dramaland.
Tumblr media
For the next few months - I watched many dramas, liked few more - didn’t really swoon over anyone, but enjoyed their acting a lot - Nam Goong Min, Ju Ji Hoon, Lee Joon Hyuk, Park Seo Joon , Nam Joo Hyuk- all fantastic actors in their own right.
I really enjoyed watching Nam Joo Hyuk in Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo, so I started to watch StartUp. Little did I know that this man whom I would see for the first time on screen would ignite the fan girl cell in my brain.
Kim Seon is not a head turner , but boy did he bull doze himself in my heart as Han Ji Pyeong from scene 1 . Darcy has ruled my heart for eternity and now Han Ji Pyeong sits right there beside him. That’s high praise cause no one has ever come close to Darcy. The writer probably did not expect that Kim Seon Ho would elevate the character 100x to what she had imagined and then to save face and make sure sympathies stayed with the main leads, the writing fell apart in the last few episodes. A character assessment of Han Ji Pyeong for another post. It remains one of my favourite characters, hell no, it sits right at the top of my favourite characters in Dramaland!
Tumblr media
I have now gone and watched Kim Seon Ho in every single series of his and all his theatre clips. He is the reason I got onto Twitter and Tumblr to find people I could talk to about him. What an amazing actor he is! It helps that he is utterly gorgeous with that bright smile of his with big dimples that warms my heart every-time I see him smile!
Tumblr media
His voice - people don’t hype up his voice as much as it deserves to be. It’s deep and soothing and a perfect voice for mic and radio. I would buy every audiobook if he ever reads one!
He does angst well, he is an intense actor, he has great comic timing, he makes me cry with the emotions he portrays on screen and there is no actor currently for me that comes close to him. He is my source of happiness. I love watching him perform and emote on screen. I know he is going to go places - people are discovering him now and he is rising up the popularity charts with the currently airing Hometown Cha Cha Cha. I want to watch him play an antagonist , or a dual personality role like Lee Seung Gi played in Mouse. I want to see him play a prosecutor or a detective hunting down criminals.
Tumblr media
But amidst all this rising popularity and fame that he has been getting, since he broke the internet with his portrayal of Han Ji Pyeong - he remains a lovable, humble human being offscreen and an absolutely adorable, clumsy dork. I love this duality in him.
Tumblr media
I will continue to admire many actors as I discover more dramas (so many to watch), but I know that no one is going to capture my heart and mind like Kim Seon Ho has!

„Where’s mommy?“ Your little son ran up to Hong Joong to be picked up by the mafia leader.
His eyes wander over the crowd at the garden gathering and when he’s not spotting you he flashes a little smile at his son.
„Mommy is talking to a man.“
Hong Joong nudges the little boy to whereas he points into a direction. Following the path around the house he sees you talking to none other than Kang Yeo Sang. His rival.
When Yeo Sang places his palm on your cheek you take a step back and frown at the boy. Hearing a cough behind you a smile escapes your form. The rival on the other hand rolls with his eyes and lets out a huff.
You’re quick to stand next to your husband and take your son into your arms leaving the two mafia leaders behind.
„You’re getting on my nerves, Kang.“

„(y/n)...“
You stood stiff in Seong Hwa‘s lavish office. Your gaze trained to the ground and your heart sinking to the bottom when he neared your form. He placed his cold fingers under your chin to raise your head. Locking his eyes with you a sigh escapes him.
„You know you belong to me. Why are you still resisting?“
„I don’t know what you are talking about.“
Seong Hwa engulfs you into his embrace leaning your head on his shoulder.
„Even our princess doesn’t like you betraying me. I will make sure you are not seeing him again.“

„And what did he say after that?“
Yun Ho caressed his daughters soft hair while she sat on his lap in their livingroom.
„That he will hurt her. I don’t remember so much... He was really scary daddy!“
With big glossy eyes Yun Ho feels his heart shattering. His daughter being so afraid for his light of the world.
He wouldn’t let Choi San get away with this.
After bringing his angel to bed he visits your shared bedroom to see you being asleep. You’re stirring and he can only guess that your nightmares are back.
With a gun and a sharp knife hidden in his suit he drives fast through the night. His team is already ready to blow up the place.
And with the final hit Yun Ho grabs the ex lover of his wife by his collar.
„I told you to stay away from us. That she is not your business anymore. What were you thinking?“
San struggles in his grip but manages to bring out his probably last words. „Kill me, but, live with the knowledge that she will never love you.“
He dropped to the ground and Yun Ho grasps his shaking hands together rage filling his body.

When your son repeatedly told Yeo Sang that he really liked the guy that was around you since a few weeks he was relieved. It was good Woo Young seemed to do his job right. After the last attack he wanted the both of you safe all the time. That’s why he send one of his best men that he trusted with all of his might.
It was only when he tucked him into bed that he stopped in his tracks being deep in thoughts. He goes downstairs and pours himself a glass of wine. He jolts a little bit when you embrace him from behind and he turns around to eye you with a sharp gaze. Tilting his head you step back and flash him a small smile.
„What’s up?“
„Woo Young‘s taking good care of you, right?“
You frown and immediately know by the tone he uses that something‘s not to his liking, and, Kang Yeo Sang not liking something was bad.
„He is, he is doing a good job. I guess.“
„Hyun Jin likes him, too. But you know what he just told me?“
You absentmindedly reach out to him to probably cool down his anger.
„He told me that uncle Woo Young was really close to you. Close like ‚daddy‘, when I asked him what he meant with that.”
“Yeo Sang, he’s not. He is just friendly. Hugging me as a greeting nothing more.“
„You think our three year old son is lying to me? (y/n), I warn you, I know him. Don’t take his flirting attempts light hearted.“
You nod at him knowing he wouldn’t take any arguing.
„If you can’t stop him I will give him a different job.“ With a last sip he finishes his glass and roughly pulls you into him to place a delicate and territorial kiss on your forehead.

„Dad, I don’t know how to say this but... I am really worried for your marriage. I mean is everything fine?“
San takes his cup of coffee sitting down on the breakfast table in front of your fourteen year-old daughter. He really needed a moment to register So Ra‘s words.
„What? Of course everything‘s fine! Or what are you even talking about?“
So Ra‘s gaze is trained on the buttered toast in front of her a deep frown taking place on her forehead.
„Yesterday at the gala... and I don’t know if I am mistaking things, but, I feel like she was flirting with this CEO named Song.“
San‘s eyes widened and he quickly takes a another sip from his coffee. „Oh, ehm, believe me your mother has always had her effect on...men.“
„Yeah, but, dad - the guy was literally stripping her naked with his eyes - “
„Choi So Ra! Your words!“ So Ra gestures a sorry with her hands but she didn’t want her mother to be so close to other men. She loved her parents dearly and she wanted to have a marriage like them in the future.
„Really, anyways, dont worry. Everything‘s perfect. If there’s a problem we would never lie to you, promise!“ He holds his pinky for So Ra and with a relieved sigh she links it like she and her dad always did.
„Good morning!“ You place a kiss on your daughter‘s cheek and send a smirk to San being proud you got the right information last night.
San looks at his two princesses and has to hold back a laugh. If their daughter only knew their jobs things would be more dangerous but in many ways easier, too.

„What means ‚sexy‘?“
You nearly caugh at your son‘s words quickly drinking something. Min Gi also nearly doubles over laughing while typing away a text for his members for their mission.
„Dong In! I thought we talked about this already.“
Your son was a persistent person eyeing you suspiciously.
Min Gi places his device on the table continuing to eat the soup for their shared dinner. „It means beautiful, but, it’s not a really polite word, Dong In.“
„Ah, so Mr. Kim is not polite to you Mum?“ That indeed catches your husband‘s attention.
„What is he talking about, (y/n)?“ A sly smile leaves him.
You groan out knowing sooner or later your son would’ve told him. „Well, Dong In‘s teacher just seems to need a talk with me about our son occasionally. And today he told me that he thinks I am ‚beautiful‘. Right, Dong In?“ Your son wasn’t paying attention anymore but with a naive sigh he slurped the rest of his soup.
„He said mommy‘s a sexy thing.“
„Dong In!“ Min Gi slowly sits back flexing his arm‘s muscles. He eyes you with a hungry gaze while he nudges Dong In.
„Next time Mr. Kim is telling your mother that she’s beautiful you say that your dad thinks so, too. Alright buddy?“ Min Gi fist bumps with your son.
„Got it!“

Woo Young wasn’t really a jelous man. He knew his worth and he also tend to be proud of the woman at his sight. Your auro caught the gazes of many men and that only boosted the mafia‘s ego.
When a man was flirting with you it was for you to play by the game. Being raised into the mafia business yourself you knew how to handle those greedy bastards.
Woo Young only smirked in the back of a booth when someone sneaked into the seat next to you at the bar. His men ready at any given chance to beat up the poor soul that tried to take what was Jung‘s.
But - he also loved your sneaky site.
It was only a button that you pushed too far when your daughter went up to his daddy to cry about how you were not giving her enough attention at the big gathering. Like the father himself their princess needed the recognition from her beloved ones.
Woo Young‘s gaze darkened when he saw you being corned by the one and only mafia leader of the west - Choi Jong Ho.
„That b - “
„Daddy! You didn’t want to swear! Mommy told you not to swear!“
„Ahhh, you’re right darling.“ He turned around to give his daughter into Seong Hwa‘s arms - one of his members.
With confident steps he emerges your form at the end of the room where Jong Ho was busy playing with your hair while talking about his latest wins in the business.
„Choi. Would you mind keeping your hands to yourself?“ Woo Young was raging by now. You didn’t stop the rival from touching you and the naive smile you send to your lover only angered him more.
„Let’s ask the lady what she wants.“ Jong Ho wiggles his eyebrows at Woo Young and you mentally facepalmed knowing Mr. Jung would scream bloody murder in a few seconds.
„I am sorry Mr. Choi.“ You gracefully step into Woo Young‘s arms giving him the satisfaction of winning this little debate with his rival. Jong Ho laughs out loud and turns around to leave the two of you.
„If you want attention ask for it. Don’t make me mad, baby.“
You lock eyes with him putting on a pout. „This way it is much more fun!“

It was the final day your son got introduced to the mafia world. A big party was held for him after he was prepared for everything over months. It was also his 16th birthday party and you had tears in your eyes knowing he was growing into a man so quickly really assembling his father in many ways.
It has been Park Seong Hwa‘s presence that put you off. He was an acquaintance of your clan for a long time but you didn’t really like the guy. When he approached you after dinner, when you were ushering your son to dance with a girl on the dancefloor, you immediately knew he was going to get on your nerves again.
He made jokes, touched you and clearly invaded your personal space. For the sake of your peaceful agreement you played his game hoping someone would come to help you out of your misery.
„Dad, I will literally kick this guy‘s balls if - “
„I already know about it.“ Jong Ho‘s gaze is fixed on your figure across the room. He turns to his son and tells him to have fun. He would take care of the matter.
Jong Ho soundlessly leans into your side leading Seong Hwa to roll with his eyes. He places a meaningful and strong kiss on your trembling lips catching your weight with his arms to steady you.
Playfully he turns around to the mafia a smile adoring his features. „Mr. Park. I didn’t even see you there!“ You’re quick to leave the duo to get to the toilet knowing by the squeeze Jong Ho just gave you a few seconds ago.
„Still so possessive I see. Let us leave this by complimenting you on your still beautiful wife.“ He let’s out a giggle while eying the crowd.
„Thank you, Seong Hwa. Seems to be running in my family.“

OCN Chimera Cast Interviews
I found some Chinese translation of the Chimera cast interviews on weibo, and would like to share some of it with you. Disclaimer: Because I translated this from Chinese, I have no way of knowing if the Chinese translation is accurate. And I’m sure some things might be lost in translation, so bear with me. Please do not repost the translation to other sites (I’m not that good of a translator and I want to keep the context of the whole thing intact. Thanks for understanding!).
Tumblr media
Claudia Kim / Kim Su Hyun (x):
Q: How was it working with Park Hae Soo and Lee Hee Joon?
A: The atmosphere on set can be felt through the BTS footages. Even though the plot of the show was heavy, it was really pleasant on set. Older brother Hee Joon was leading the younger brothers; Older brother Hae Soo was like a friend who could listen to your worries and make you smile; Hyo Kyung was like the spoiled and cute youngest sibling. Like a family, we shared our worries with each other, and supported each other to finish the filming.
Q: Any memorable moments during filming?
A: Many of the interrogation scenes. Because I was a calm profiler, so I shouldn’t be burdened or full of emotions. But I couldn’t omit the intensity of each word either, so there needed to be a lot of practice and focus. The intensity of the scene with Kang Sang Gu was praised by the directors. Even though the time spent with Sang Gu wasn’t much, the focus and the cooperation between us was memorable to me.
Lee Hee Joon (x):
Q: The chemistry between the cast was very apparent. What do you think of the outcome?
A: We all take good care of each other, so everything went well on set. During the filming, even though there were many good times, there were also mental and physical difficulties, and during these times Park Hae Soo was the colleague and motivating force that kept me going more than anyone else. He was a colleague who started to stand on theater stages with me since 10 years ago, and a very good person with respectful personalities. I’ve always looked out for Su Hyun’s works as a fan. This was the first time that we worked together, and because of the good personality and passion, I was really happy.
Q: What’s the most memorable moment/scene when filming Chimera?
A: In the interrogation room scene in episode 4, in order to have real thirsty feeling and voice, I didn’t drink water during the 8 hours of filming, and it was very memorable to me. And looking for interesting things when rehearsing with Park Hae Soo was also very memorable.
Q: Is there a memorable classic Chimera scene or line?
A: I still remember the line “What happens at present time is the result of the past”. The scene where Joong Yeop read the notes and realized that his father was innocent, this was the biggest relief in Joong Yeop’s life.
Park Hae Soo (x):
Q: The chemistry between the cast was very apparent. What do you think of the outcome?
A: As an actor or character, there were many moments and very difficult scenes, so I’m suddenly remembering a lot. Lee Hee Joon is a senior that I like and would like to follow. He was the older brother from the theatre troupe, and being able to spend moments of Chimera with him, I felt very honored. I filmed a lot of scenes with Su Hyun, and we worked really well together. Outside of filming, we also depended on each other, and had a lot of discussions about the show, therefore we worked really well with each other.
Q: What’s the most memorable moment/scene when filming Chimera?
A: It was the scene where Joong Yeop and Eugene were having dinner at Jae Hwan’s house. This was an ironic but nice scene. To Koreans, “rice from the same rice cooker” has special meaning*. This was the the only warm scene in this intense show.
(*Translator’s note: I did look up 한솥밥/hansotbap (x). “(Eating) rice from the same rice cooker” means living under the same roof, and it basically signifies that they consider each other as family members. It’s interesting that Park Hae Soo thought that this scene was ironic. I don’t know if it’s because Jae Hwan, Joong Yeop, and Eugene basically became family members to each other, but in the end, they parted ways and stayed in three different countries which was like the furthest from living under the same roof.)

Let the mourning begin -
Lost loves:
I think I fall in love with every leading man in most of the Kdramas that I watch.… LOL. Koreans have this undescribable way of pulling out emotions from me with these stories. Sometimes, days, even weeks after the series ends, my mind keeps going back to those particular characters and many of them I actually miss. You may think me silly, but isn’t that the purpose of watching TV and movies? My own life is boring and dull, so these characters fill a much needed void. Thank you to the story writers, screenplay writers, directors, film crew, but especially to the actors and actresses that bring these characters to life for me every day. This list is not in any specific order.
So, who are my lost loves?
(1) Memories of the Alhambra:
Tumblr media
I lost two loves in this series. First, why did Seo Jung-Hoon (played by Min Jin-Woong) have to die?? 😭😭
Tumblr media
He was cute by his own right and so kind, sincere, and caring. But his dedication to his boss, Jin-Woo (Bin Hyun), went above and beyond. He took everything that Jin-Woo hashed out in stride and with a sense of humor. He even learned the game to assist his boss with moving up levels and that is what got him killed. But he resurfaced in the game as an ally and does continue to defend his boss. I cried and cried when Jin-Woo had to stab and kill his secretary’s character in the game so that the game would reset.
Tumblr media
Secondly, Hyun Bin, even when being a jerk, is lovable. He is so charismatic! The more you learned about Yoo Jin-Woo (played by Hyun Bin) the more you cared for him because you could understand where his anger was coming from. And despite being hard-core on the outside, on the inside he was very vulnerable. This series ends with Jin-Woo disappearing in reality only to be found, still alive, within the game itself. 😢 Season two is a must! Jin-Woo needs to be found!
(2) Hyde, Jekyll, me:
Tumblr media
I miss Robin (played by Hyun Bin)! I know he was incooperated into Goo Seo-Jin’s personality, but with the combination of both personalities, it’s still a different person. Robin was the best! He was selfless, fun loving, protective and he wasn’t afraid to show his emotions. Everyone loved him. It’s a shame he wasn’t the one to “survive”. 😢
(3) Vincenzo:
Tumblr media
Played by Song Joong-Ki. He’s not dead, just ‘missing’. He’s very far away in another country and he’s keeping his whereabouts hidden. Come back Vincenzo! I miss you!
(4) Mouse:
Tumblr media
I lost two loves in this series, also. Kim Young-Ok plays the grandmother that was stabbed to death by the serial killer. Later we discover that the serial killer was our sweet and kind officer, Jeong Ba-Reum. Grandmother was murdered by someone she knew and trusted. 😭
Tumblr media
Which brings me to my 2nd lost love, Jeong Ba-Reum played by Lee Seung-Gi. I know he ended up being a psychopathic serial killer, but as the sweet, kind, helpful and caring officer, he took my heart.
Tumblr media
After his brain surgery he began to feel emotions that he had never felt before. Watching him, as guilt and compassion started causing him pain, made me 😞 sad. Oh, he totally deserved it, but it still made me sad. The worst though was he in the church alone and dying. I still want to cry just thinking about it.
(5) Crash Landing on You:
Tumblr media
He was such a player but why did Seong-Joon (played by Kim Jung-Hyun) have to die just as he started caring about someone other than himself?
Tumblr media
He was at the airport. He would have survived. But he actually cared for Dan, who was kidnapped, so Seong-Joon went back to rescue her. He succeeded but it cost him his own life.
6 - 10 coming up…

What will happen to River? If they pull it off air, I'm pretty sure they'll lose a bunch of money and I don't think recasting is an option now (as far as I understand most of it was already shot). I guess they could try writing him out or deleting some of his scenes but he's the ML, the end result would obvs be choppy and rushed and the audience would still drop. Let him finish shooting and not alter anything would look bad and cause an audience drop as well. Screwed no matter what they do
Realistically speaking, I will be surprised if they pull it off the air or reshoot.
The only times I can think they replaced the leading man was for Escape from Joseon but that was because at the time Kang Ji Hwan was literally charged with a felony he is currently in jail for and Delayed Justice and drunk driving but I don’t know that drama and its dynamics and the details at all.
Bullying is obviously bad and extreme bullying like what this sounds like is extra bad but I doubt it’s a felony when committed that long ago by a minor (how would you even charge an adult for any crimes he committed as a minor tbh? You can’t charge him as a minor and put him in juvie and you can’t change him as an adult because he wasn’t one back then.) I don’t know enough about SK mores to know whether it will just be netizen outrage and blah blah or enough to make the drama recast/yanked.
I’d be surprised if it’s the latter to be honest seeing that Park Shi Hoo (who was accused of literal rape) is making dramas (after a couple of years’ hiatus but still), Kim Hyun Joong still has a career and even Yoochun is making a comeback. Yes, I realize all of those are some time after their respective revelations/scandals/blah but still.
From a purely selfish standpoint, I hope they air it as is. It’s the first sageuk in way over a year that I truly love (Queen Cheorin was fun until it imploded but it was as historical as Knight’s Tale) and it has never bothered me to watch actors who have done even way worse stuff on screen so while I don’t think I’d want to be around the dude in real life, I can continue to enjoy a drama with him in it.
(Same thing with e.g., Zheng Shuang from cdramas whose career just imploded spectacularly for some truly bonkers behavior. I’d still watch dramas with her, not that I’d get the chance. I genuinely don’t care what actors are like or did in RL. If they committed a felony, go to jail, if not in jail I will watch their stuff.)

My favorite ships from kdramas - appreciation post (part 2)
I have no idea if you've been waiting for that but I described the last list as part one, so I guess I should make another one. So today is The day. BTS plays in the background, list is ready, I have exam in two days but who cares, let's go!
1. What’s wrong with secretary Kim? - Kim Mi So & Lee Young-Joon
Tumblr media
Let’s be honest. We have Park Min-Young and Park Seo-Joon. It had to work. They had to had crazy-like chemistry, it was meant to be. Whenever there was a kiss I’ve been worried my computer will set himself on fire bc all this hotness. Iconic comedy, iconic character of Park Seo-Joon, iconic romance. Also can we all agree that Park Min-Young have like the best luck when it comes to screen partners? Shit, girl. You must have saved thousands of people’s lives in your past life.
2. While you were sleeping - Nam Hoong-Joo & Jung Jae-Chan
Tumblr media
Second Male Lead Syndrome hit hard with this one. But still not hard enough to stop me from gushing over the Nam Hoong-Joo and Jung Jae-Chan cuteness. I mean, c’mon. Suzy is motherfucker queen and Lee Jong-Suk is so pretty it makes my eyes hurt. Plus I adore that they were just so idk normal? Not perfect like most of the kdrama’s couples. She has growing hair leg, and he can be gross sometimes. SO WHAT?! Welcome to the real world. They loved each other anyway.
3. Innocent man/Nice Guy - Seo Eun-Gi & Kang Ma-Roo
Tumblr media
Man, between all this fluffy couples this one is kinda dark. But that's exactly what I loved about them. She was a bitch, especially at the beginning. He was a the dickest dick in the whole Dickland, Mayor of Dickville. Two sinners, bad, broken and selfish. Raw. Different. Flawed. They were hurting, they've been hurt. The ending of the drama was meh for me but this couple stands strong. And you know that Song Joong-Ki is the only one for me. He just makes me so happy whenever he's on the screen.
4. Touch your heart - Oh Jin-Shim & Kwon Jung-Rok
Tumblr media
They proved love exists in Goblin and now they did it again. Firstly: Oh Jin-Shim is one of my favorite female characters ever. She's just so cheerful and inspirational. I watched this drama when my life was kinda shit, but after watching her journey back to the top I felt great, like I could do anything. Secondly: Kwon Jung-Rok is the cutest idiot ever. He's so charming with this awkwardness of his. And together they create this cute, healthy kind of relationship I stan so much. LOVE THEM.
5. Her private life - Sung Deok-Mi & Ryan Gold
Tumblr media
So like I said before I'm pretty sure that Park Min-Young could create great chemistry even with a plain chair. But holy shit, in Her Private life we're getting whole Mendeleev's table. The story is pretty simple, there's no incredible groundbreaking plot, but Kim Jae-Wook is so hot and works so amazing with Park Min-Young that I didn't even care for the plot. I just wanted to look at him as long as I could. Also, Ryan Gold is perfect boyfriend. I want him for next Christmas.
6. Angel's last mission: love - Lee Yeon-Seo & Dan
Tumblr media
Omg, I shed so many tears on this one. Being completely honest I wasn’t huge fan of Lee Yeon-Seo at the beginning, she was really annoying for me. But Dan, my baby L, was such a cutie I decided to watch it despite of female character and boy, I am so happy I did that. It was truly touching, sad but beautiful story. And mains are just two puppies, so in love with each other, that you have this sudden desire to leave kdrama’s world, go outside, meet someone and being as cute as Yeon-Seo and Dan. Fortunately, this desire passes very quickly. I have another episode to watch, you know?
7. Cheer up! Sassy go go - Kang Yeon-Doo & Kim Yeol
Tumblr media
I know most of you have a very strong Second Man Lead Syndrome when it comes to Sassy Go Go. And let me just tell you: I would die for Seo Ha-Joon. Ji Soo is one of my favs and he did such a breathtaking job in this drama. When I started watching it, I've actually been thinking I would be suffering, bc after watching few videos on YouTube I knew that SMLS is strong with this one. I wanted to ship him with Kang Yeon-Doo. And partly I do, I am. BUT DAMN. KIM YEOL. Like I said, I was prepared for loving Seo Ha-Joon. I was rooting for him even before watching. But then that one scene happened and that was it. I was done. You know which one I'm talking about. "One, you move away first. Two, I move away first. Three, since we're in this position anyway, we do it". It made my heart beat faster and since that moment I was sold.
Btw that plot line with parents was totally unnecessary. Why, writers? Why?
8. Because this is my first life - Joon Ji-Ho & Nam Se-Hee
Tumblr media
This drama is so important for me, you have no idea. I just felt it to the core of my being. And no, I didn't married my hot landlord although i'm not opposed that idea but it's just freaking incredible story about growing up, learning how to do this whole adult-shit, being your own person, being someone's person and finally about finding yourself. GOD, IT WAS SO GOOD. And main couple! UGH. My babies! I know I named Kwon Jung-Rok from Touch Your Heart the cutest idiot ever but in that moment I guess I had to forget about Nam Se-Hee, bc he wins that category. But he was also understanding and respectful and patient and just...kind. Just simply kind but somehow that is everything. Plus I love Kitty. It's the prettiest cat ever.
9. Extraordinary you - Eun Dan-Oh & Haru
Tumblr media
The latest drama I watched and holy guacamole, I loved it so much. And even though I love Baek Kyung with my whole heart I don't even know why because he's an asshole, I just have to admit that Haru and Eun Dan Oh are freaking perfect for each other. THE WAY HE RESPECTED HER. Damn, that's some valuable shit right here. Watch and learn, boys. WATCH. AND. LEARN.
10. Encounter/boyfriend - Cha Soo-Hyun & Kim Jin-Hyuk
Tumblr media
The last but not least. Actually, it’s my fav couple on this list. Noone is able to dethrone Kang Mo-yeon & Yoo Shi-jin from DOTS from being my fav ultimate, but damn I must say Soo-Hyun and Jin-Hyuk were really close to do that. I fell in love with them since the first scene and now, long after watching it, I still think about them everyday. I’m not even joking. Where you can find a man who’ll take cute photos of you and dance salsa with you on Cuba? With whom You could talk about poetry and art? And who will be as cute as Park Bo-Gum? Any ideas? I’m not asking for friend, I’m asking for myself.

Ok, my goal in life as an obsessed Ryu Sun Jae fan right now is to find all versions of this song 🤗 (I think I did - Kim Hyun Joong). All versions are sooo good! It just perfectly depicts that magical moment he first fell for Sol, to all his pent up feels (and sufferings 😭).
Hope we get live versions for the other OST songs too esp. the Eclipse ones.

Business Is Business - Mafia AU
Chapter 1
Word count: 5k
Warnings: Mafia involvement, murder, suicide, self harm, violence
Chap.2 || Chap.3 || Chap.4 || Chap.5 ||
Tumblr media
Their breaths came out as fogs as they walked through the streets of Seoul. His hands were full of bags as he tried to keep up with his sister, his whines never ceasing to how she was making him carry all the bags.
“Hyun Jae, why can’t you carry any of the bags?” He whined out. Hyun Jae turned around to him, walking backwards, and lifted the tiniest of the bags that was in her hand as well as her clutch in her other,
“My hands are full, Hongjoong. Sorry.” She snickered at him before turning back around. He let out a groan, the sound of the bags dropping to the floor making her stop her footsteps and turn around to face him.
“Why did we buy so much shit again? It’s not like we’re going to stay in that apartment often anyway.” He grumbled as he looked at the amount of bags that were sitting on the pavement.
“Most of it is either food or your stuff.” She shrugged, finally helping him to carry some of the bags, “Four of these bags are from the music store and only one of them is mine.” Hongjoong stretched his back,
“God, I feel like an old man.” He let out another groan, a small crack coming from his back before peeking into the bags, “The heavier bags are the ones filled with things you bought from Typo and Miniso.” He said to her matter-of-factly. Hyun Jae stuck her tongue out at him, putting down one of the bags and picking up one of the lighter ones,
“I was about to carry a heavy bag but now you carry all the heavy bags.” She turned on the heel of her boot and started walking. He quickly picked up the bags and jogged to keep up with her.
“Yah! Kim Hyun Jae!” He called out with a sigh as he chased after her.
“We’re almost at the train station so you’ll be able to rest.” She said as she pulled one of the bags from his hands, the softer side she had for her brother starting to show as they approached the entrance to the train station.
They made their way down and into the station, stepping into the train. They were lucky there were two empty seats right as they stepped in and Hongjoong quickly sat down and dumped the bags on the floor with a sigh. Hyun Jae took a seat beside him and watched as he stretched.
“My entire body is going to ache so bad tomorrow. Why did we go shopping a day before dance practice?” He groaned, finally relaxing in the plastic seat of the train. “I’m just glad we’re going home.” He leaned his head back against the glass as Hyun Jae pulled her phone out of her poofy winter jacket, her eyes widening and her lips parted slightly.
“Joong,” She held her phone up in front of his face, his eyes widening at the sudden action. His wide eyes squinted as he read the message,
“No way.” He reached into the pocket of his jacket to pull out of his own phone. He let out a laugh, quickly stifling it when he received strange looks from the other passengers. “I can’t believe he actually got caught.” He lowered his voice and continued to read the news article sent by his members, “I actually thought he would get away with it.”
“Yeah, you did.” She snorted as she held her hand out in front of him. He rolled his eyes as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a 10 thousand won note, slapping it in her hand. “Min Yu may be smart but he’s not thorough enough at hiding evidence and I had to clean it up for him once.”
“I know, I was hoping I could just win some money.” He sighed, “What did they find?” He asked as he pulled his earphones out of his pocket.
“According to Jongho he left his beanie at the murder site. What a genius.” She rolled her eyes before locking her phone and putting it in her pocket. He plugged one of his earphones into his ears and held up the other. “New song?” She asked when she saw the earphone. She plugged it into her ear, “Tell me again how you’re going to debut as a Kpop idol and have time for the business?” She asked as he scrolled through the audio files on his phone.
“The other guys can handle on their own if we’re busy. They can always call me if they need me.” He shrugged, pressing play on one of the songs. “We finally finished it. It’s called “Treasure.” The song was amazing, leaving Hyun Jae speechless and in awe as she listened to the song.
Both of them had a musical passion but Hongjoong was the only one actively pursuing it by becoming a trainee at KQ Entertainment. Hyun Jae on the other hand, was more interested in psychology. She spent her time studying the human mind, emotions and body language. Her ability to read a person by just talking to them for a moment was a key benefit for their ‘side job’.
“This sounds amazing.” She said as she pulled out the earphone, “Is this the song you’re debuting with?” She asked him, her eyes sparkling with admiration for her brother.
“Treasure and Pirate King are the title tracks for the first EP.” He nodded. He had already played Pirate King for his sister a few days back and told her he was only going to play her the rest of the EP after they officially release it.
“I can’t wait for the release. I’m so proud of you, Joong.” She smiled at him, “I’m sure if mum and dad were still here they’d be proud too. You know how much they wanted you to become an idol.” She bumped his shoulder with hers.
“Thanks, Jae.” He smiled back, his eyes trailing to the floor of the train, “If they were still here they’d probably laugh at Min Yu too.” He snorted. They shared a look, taking a moment to silently mourn their late parents.
“If they were still alive they would whip us so bad for the way we handle the business.” Hyun Jae spoke up with a chuckle.
“Oh yeah, definitely.” Hongjoong laughed. “Dad would be so upset that we don’t spend all of our time at the office.” He looked at Hyun Jae, “Mum would be so pissed that I dragged you into it.”
“I couldn’t leave you to do this alone. We haven’t been separated since we were born, what makes them think we’d part ways if one of us had to join the mafia.” She laughed, shaking her head slightly.
“Are we ever going to part ways?” He asked after a moment. The question was sudden and it made his sister look up at him in slight shock. She didn’t know how to answer him. They were bound to part ways and the thought of it saddened both of them as they were hoping it wouldn’t happen too soon. “I meant before one of us ends up getting married. We’re not going to separate before that, right?” He looked up at her, the glint of anxiety in eyes making her understand that he was as scared as she was about losing one another.
“I won’t leave you, Hongjoong. I promise.” She raised her pinky finger out in front of him and he smiled slightly, raising his own to lock their pinkies together.
“Twins forever, right?”
“Of course.” She nodded. Once the train reached their stop, Hongjoong was more than ready to just get home and lay down to soothe his already aching body. They were lucky that the stop was literally right outside their apartment building which meant less walking for both of them. They made their way up the building and stepped into the apartment, the sound of bags almost violently rustling as Hongjoong struggled to make his way into the apartment. Hyun Jae was following behind him, locking the door and laughing at his effort.
“It’s not funny! I might fall and die!” He whined out when he heard her laughter.
“Okay! Okay, sorry!” She laughed as she helped him with the bags. They dumped the bags on the carpeted floor of their living room, Hongjoong letting out a sigh at the relief of letting go of the weight on his arms.
“Please tell me we don’t have to do another shopping spree too soon.” He groaned out as he massaged his arms.
“I think we’re pretty set for now. We have all the food we need for what looks like the next month.” Hyun Jae answered as she looked through the bags. She went and started to restock their kitchen, letting her brother use the shower first. She carried her bags into her bedroom, looking through everything she had bought. She pulled out a vintage polaroid camera from one of the bags and placed it on her shelf among other vintage items.
She took a step back and admired the shelf, her collection was slowly growing as the years were passing and she felt a sense of pride fill her heart. The sound of the bathroom door opening and closing made her grab her robe, heading out of her room only to be faced with Hongjoong in the living room, full moon on display and towel on the floor.
“JOONG!” She screamed as she covered her eyes, “What did I say about being naked?!” She scolded him.
“Sorry!” He quickly picked his towel back up off of the floor, “My towel dropped on the way back to my room!” She only opened her eyes when she heard his bedroom door shut.
“Next time your towel drops just run into your room!” She yelled out, receiving a muffled ‘sorry’ from his bedroom. Being roommates with her identical twin brother meant she had to set ground rules so that he wouldn’t do dumb things out of his bedroom.
Hyun Jae was slightly more mature than Hongjoong was when it came to family and whenever they were at home but Hongjoong was, in general, more mature than his sister was; especially when it came to business. Hongjoong was the leader of their mob. After their father had passed away a few years before, their mother had to take charge. But with a scuffle with a rival gang, Hongjoong was forced to take charge along with Hyun Jae.
The original plan was that he would be a mob boss on his own, but knowing his tendency to trust people more easily that he should, his sister took to his side. She didn’t doubt his ability as a leader for once second but she was worried he would overstep certain details when running the mob. He wasn’t as thorough as she was. She was a perfectionist - not meticulously - and she was way more observant than he was, meaning she would be able to pinpoint a person’s behaviour before he could and was able to judge whether they could trust them or not.
Their bond was strong. Most of the men that worked under them felt as if them working together was better than if only one of them was on their own. They had that connection only twins would have, being able to understand each other’s feelings and thoughts on a level that seemed as though their minds were one. It was almost telepathic and it seemed to scare new people. No one had been able to get between them. Attempts made by rival mobs to try and turn them on each other failed miserably and soon most mobs and gangs already knew better than to try and make tear them apart.
Hyun Jae took a quick shower, stepping out of the bathroom in her robe. Hongjoong was stood in the kitchen with his phone pressed to his ear,
“It’s not that fucking hard!” He yelled into the phone. Hyun Jae stood at the counter, drying her hair with a towel as she listened to the conversation once she realised he was using his work phone. “Do we have to clean his mess every time? Exactly. Tie him up, Hyun Jae and I will be there soon.” He sighed as he ended the call, squeezing the bridge of his nose with his fingers.
“The rookie again?” Hyun Jae asked and Hongjoong nodded.
“God, he’s actually incompetent.” He angrily put his phone on the counter, standing with his hands on his hips for a moment, “We have to go down there. We gotta get rid of him.” He sighed once again.
Tumblr media
“You messed up too many times, kid.” Hyun Jae said, her arms crossed over her chest as she glared at the rookie. His hands were bound behind his back and he was sitting on a chair, fear etched on his face.
“I-I’m sorry. P-Please d-d-don’t k-kill me.” He whimpered out.
“There’s nothing else we can do. We can’t just let you off the hook that easily. You know too much already.” She looked him dead in the eye, “I already gave you a warning before this mission. It’s not that easy to fuck up that job especially with Yunho’s guidance. All you needed to do was get information and get out. How the fuck did you fuck that up?!” She exploded. He winced at the sudden change in tone of her voice. “Now the government could be on our tail and it’s your fault. Too many fuck ups and too big of one. You’re out.” She moved away from him.
“Sorry, kid. We just can’t let you run free.” Hongjoong shrugged as he turned to one of his men, “Don’t let his body be found.” He ordered him.
“No! Wait” The rookie cried out as two men started to pick him up. “Please! I won’t tell anyone!” He continued to cry as they dragged him out of the room. Hyun Jae massaged her temples with her fingers,
“I told you he would fuck up. He’s a kid.” She groaned, her eyes shut as she heard Hongjoong let out a sigh from beside her,
“I was hoping we could save him. Who else did he have?”
“Hyung,” The voice of one of their younger members made them look up. Jongho had peeked his head into the room.
“What is it?” Hongjoong asked.
“Yunho hyung and Yeosang hyung cleaned up the trail. It should be okay now.” He said, gesturing for them to leave the room and to follow him. The twins followed him out and into the computer room, one of the walls lined with a small row of computer monitors. They were met with the other members of the group Hongjoong was going to debut with; their most trusted members of the mob.
“Sorry about that, Hongjoong hyung and Hyun Jae noona.” Yunho sat up from one of the desks, his face full of regret. “I shouldn’t have let him do it but I wanted him to learn. Yeosang managed to wipe our digital trail and attach it to another device offshore.” He explained.
“I don’t blame you. I shouldn’t have let him into this in the first place.” Hongjoong sighed, giving Yunho a light pat on the back. They all nodded, lowering their heads slightly.  All eight of the members had their strengths, making their mob stronger in multiple different methods.
Right under Hongjoong and Hyun Jae was Seonghwa, the oldest among all of them. He was the most mature out of all of them; slightly more mature as Hongjoong was. He came from a background that wasn’t exactly too wealthy but he was worth more than anyone else in the mob. He was good at theft - more specifically grand theft - and was able to steal loads of money and valuable items without being caught. He didn’t need anyone to clear his footprints, he was able to leave clean and fund the mob without much hassle.
Yunho was in charge of stealing information physically and often worked with Yeosang. He knew how the inside of the Korean government worked and was able to provide information on how to work around their system. His ability to sneak into buildings had found them the plans for advanced weaponry, the most hunted mobs, and ways to evade the government. His ability had managed to save the mob from being slaughtered after he had found out when and where the government were going to look next.
Yeosang was their tech guy. Years and years of gaming had led him to building a strategic mind. He knew how to break every firewall and knew how to get into the digital database of any top secret government facility. His digital knowledge combined with Yunho’s ability had allowed them to successfully complete break ins cleanly. His love for drones had also led him to pick up creating and inventing multiple devices that only needed him to work from a computer, making it easier for them to cover up their trail when he needed to complete a job. There were times where he didn’t leave the office, sending in other men with his creations to finish the job successfully.
San was among the top three in their group. He was the best at bribery and knew every corrupt police officer in South Korea. He had the most connections in and out of Korea. He could get his hands on any information required on any government and his strength in martial arts also made it easier for him to travel around without any extra people to keep him safe. He could blend into groups and disappear from anyone that was targeting him. He and Seonghwa’s families had worked together prior to joining Hongjoong, both of them sharing their abilities to commit multiple crimes together for the benefit of their mobs.
Mingi was the riskiest out of all of them. He was the most willing to do everything and anything and he was the best at handling weapons. His aim on a gun was the best, his knife skills were peaked and he could learn how to use any weapon within a short span of time. He was their shield, leaving misleading evidence to keep cops off of their trail and was the only one who had ever let off a C4 before. He was also their sniper. His precise aim could take out anyone from miles away and he was usually the first one to let them know whether it was safe to continue or not.
Wooyoung was their interrogator. He knew his way around torture and kidnap, bringing back useful bodies for information. He was in charge of every interrogation and had been successful for a good majority of his torture. He seemed to have a knack for interrogation, originally wanting to join the police force but had to change his path when he had accidentally stained himself with a criminal record with a petty crime. After he met Hongjoong, his desire for being in the police force quickly changed to him growing on being on the opposite side.
Their youngest and strongest member was Jongho. His strength could take down guards and officers almost twice his size and he knew Hongjoong and Hyun Jae even before he joined their mob due to their father’s being allies. He was feared by most gangs and even the men that worked under the twins for his strength. He was the only one among them that could fight the longest due to his stamina, typically working alongside San to make the job easier since Jongho wasn’t that good at working alone. He couldn’t disappear as well as the other members and working with San was slowly teaching him how he could blend into the crowd when needed.
All of them were close. Their relationships with Hongjoong also bloomed a close relationship with Hyun Jae. They were able to separate their lives in the mafia from their personal lives. Business meant business and family meant family but they had created a bond together that was stronger than family. All of them willing to die for each other. Hongjoong knew they could make mistakes but he also knew that they were capable of picking themselves us and taking their own consequences, making him trust them even more. Both him and Hyun Jae knew that without them, the mob would’ve been caught long ago.
“Hyun Jae noona, has Hongjoong hyung played you Treasure yet?” San asked as they left restaurant that was hiding their office.
“Yeah, it’s really good.” She nodded, “He played it for me just now when we were on the train. It has a great melody, good rhythm and amazing vocals.” She winked at him, a small blush creeping on his cheeks.
“Whose voice do you think is the best?” Yunho asked, knowing that question would most likely put her on the spot.
“If I had to choose? Mine.” She joked, earning a whine from him. “I don’t want to make anyone feel shitty, but Jongho’s vocals are always the most impressive.” She commented, sticking her hands in the pocket of her jacket as the temperature seemed to drop a bit more.
“Of course they are,” Hongjoong scoffed, “That’s why he’s our main vocalist.” He turned to Jongho who was smiling proudly, feeling himself fill with warmth at the praise he was getting from his older members.
“ATEEZ is going to be huge. I can feel it.” Hyun Jae smiled at them, all of them flashing her smiles with their eyes full of excitement.
“Noona, are you going to follow us on tour?” Wooyoung asked. They were all hoping she could tag along, but with having to take care of the mob, she was too worried to leave Korea with her brother.
“I don’t think so, Wooyoungie.” She shook her head, Hongjoong quickly turning his head towards her,
“What? Why?” He asked. He hadn’t officially asked her to follow along but he was hoping she would, not wanting to leave her on her own.
“I don’t want to leave the mob alone. At least if I stay, I can try and keep things in line until you get back.” She explained.
“Jae, come on, they can handle themselves. I trust Jung Hee hyung has been here since dad was, so I trust him to take care of everything.” Hongjoong put a hand on her back, “Please, Jae?” He pleaded, a small pout of his lips.
“Okay, fine.” She nodded, looking at the happy expressions on all of the faces of her friends, “I’ll come along. It’ll be fun, right?”
“Definitely!” San nodded excitedly, “We’re gonna have so much fun. We’ll teach you how to dance!” He skipped. Hyun Jae giggled at how happy he was.
“Are you guys going home?” Hongjoong asked when they reached the entrance of the train station.
“Jongho and I have something we need to do.” Seonghwa shook his head, “My brother needs help.”
“You guys gonna be alright on your own?” Hyun Jae asked. They all nodded,
“We’ll be fine. It’s not too big of a deal, just need to beat some people up.” He shrugged in response. She nodded at him.
“If anything happens, just give any of us a call, alright?” Hongjoong gave Seonghwa a pat on the back, waving at him and Jongho as they walked the opposite direction.
“We’re gonna head back first.” Wooyoung spoke after waving at Seonghwa, “We’re super hungry right now.” He gestured to him, San and Yeosang.
“We haven’t had dinner yet so we’re gonna grab something to eat in this area. You wanna join us?” Yeosang asked.
“It’s fine, I’m super tired.” Hongjoong shook his head, “Jae and I just got back from shopping when Yunho called and my body hurts.” He grimaced as he thought of how much his arms and back were going to feel the next day.
“Joong’s a baby and he had to carry heavy bags.” Hyun Jae snickered at him, earning a punch to her shoulder. She scowled at Hongjoong.
“She didn’t help me carry the bags at all.” He crossed his arms over his chest.
“You shouldn’t make a girl carry heavy bags, hyung. Even if it’s your sister.” Mingi teased his hyung.
“Whatever, I’m going home.” Hongjoong threw his arms up and grumbled as he walked into the train station, laughter erupting from his friends. Hyun Jae gave all of them a quick wave before chasing after her brother.
They all shared apartments with each other to ensure the safety of their group. It was too risky to let them live on their own and they all agreed on a roommate system. Jongho and Seonghwa shared an apartment nearby Mingi and Yunho’s. Wooyoung, Yeosang and San shared an apartment that was in the same area as Hyun Jae and Hongjoong which led to them being constant uninvited guests at each other’s places.
Wooyoung was constantly at the twins’ apartment whenever Yeosang and San were out, emptying their fridge and claiming that he was too lazy to buy his own food even though there was a convenience store right beside his building. Wooyoung’s habit of eating their food was the reason Hongjoong insisted on bringing home so much food when they were shopping. He knew his fellow member would come over constantly and was sure the fridge would clear even before they were to debut in the next month.
The ride back to the apartment was silent between the two, both of them tired and ready to head to sleep. The moment they stepped into their apartment, Hongjoong made a beeline to his room. Hyun Jae instead made her way to the cabinets and pulled out a whiskey bottle. She pulled a glass out of another cabinet and filled up the glass with alcohol before putting away the bottle.
She went out to the balcony and made sure to close the door before pulling out a cigarette and lighting it. She lifted the cigarette to her lips, taking a puff. The burning in her throat from the smoke as it filled her lungs brought a sense of peace to her mind. The added burning sensation when she drank the liquor warmed her body in the winter temperature.
The habit of smoking was something inherited from their parents. Hongjoong stayed away from cigarettes, not wanting to stress his throat and lungs too much but Hyun Jae didn’t. She didn’t mean to pick up the habit but curiosity led to her using cigarettes occasionally. It wasn’t an addiction. She told herself that since she could go a few days without smoking before she felt like she needed to. Hongjoong wasn’t exactly bothered by it but the only rule he set down when they got the apartment was that she wasn’t allowed to smoke indoors and was only allowed to smoke on the balcony if she was home.
She pulled her phone out of her pocket after feeling a buzz, looking at the notification.
You reach home okay?
It was from Yeosang.
Yea, I’m on the balcony right now.
That’s good. I’m glad you’re coming on tour. We can spend more time together.
The relationship she had with Yeosang was different and slightly complicated. There was no denying that there was chemistry between the two but for the sake of Yeosang, they had to hide their relationship. If Hongjoong was to find out that he was interested in her, he would beat him up or do worse. He was protective over his sister; especially when it came to the mob. The last member of the mob who took interest in Hyun Jae ended up being hidden in the ocean. The unspoken restrictions from Hongjoong still didn’t stop them from letting a relationship blossom between them. Yeosang would always make sure Hyun Jae would get home safe after the twins would leave the office.
The sound of the balcony door opening made her turn around to see Hongjoong stepping out onto the balcony. Hyun Jae quickly slipped her phone in her pocket and put out the cigarette on the ashtray that sat on the metal rail.
“What are you doing out here? I thought you were tired.” She questioned as she watched him lean against the rail.
“Didn’t feel tired enough.” He shrugged. They looked out at the town, watching as cars and people passing by.
“Hongjoong,” She spoke up, earning a hum from him. “Should I really go on tour with you guys?” She asked, turning to her brother who was still looking out. “I don’t know how I feel about leaving the mob alone like this.” She said. He pursed his lips before turning to face her,
“I really want you to come along, Hyun Jae.” His eyes were asking her to come. She didn’t want to say no but she was paranoid. “I know you’re worried about the mob but I seriously feel like they can handle things without us. I mean, we’re already bringing along eight of our members. Why not we bring you as well?” Her eyes were unknowingly scanning his body language as he spoke and she knew that he was worried too. But his trust in the men that had worked with their parents for years was strong enough that he could push past his worry. Maybe she could too. “If you don’t come they’re gonna bully me.” He joked.
“They bully you either way.” She rolled her eyes with a laugh, “Just because I’m one minute older doesn’t mean I have to beat up your bullies for you.”
“That’s what older sisters are for!” He whined. “You’re supposed to protect me!” He grabbed her shoulders and started to shake her back and forth, “Jae, come with us, pleeeeeaaaase!” He pleaded as he shook her.
“Okay, okay, okay!” She yelled as she tried to get him to stop. He stopped once she spoke. “I’ll follow you guys, sheesh.” She moved her hair out of her face and watched as he started jumping in excitement.
“Yay! You’re coming with us!” He looked like a child who had just gotten candy, jumping up and down before running into the apartment. Hyun Jae laughed as she watched. The paranoia in her heart quickly disappeared. The decision to follow them on tour felt like a good idea. It felt right.

Strangers From Hell (2019)
Dir. Lee Chang-hee
Writer: Jung Lee-Do based on the webtoon written by Kim Yong-Ki
very long post ahead ~
⚠️ TW // death, murder, blood, violence
SPOILERS !!
Goshiwon: a very small room that students live in while studying for an important test. (source: https://www.reddit.com/r/DoesNotTranslate/comments/5zghif/korean_%EA%B3%A0%EC%8B%9C%EC%9B%90_goshiwon_a_very_small_room_that/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Psychopath: a person suffering from chronic mental disorder with abnormal or violent social behavior.
Tumblr media
“be careful with people. people are the most frightening above all else.”
indeed people are frightening. just from this drama, i’m starting to think of going vegetarian. i know its part of the ~cinematic effect~ but the way Ms. Eom (Lee Jeong-eun) handled the meat almost made me gag ;-;. the drama was pretty disturbing too! Seo Moon-jo (Lee Dong-wook) lived a double life as a dentist and someone who kills people for “art”. it absolutely reminded me of Hannibal (2013) because of Moon-jo and Jong-woo’s (Im Siwan) relationship, which reminded me of Hannibal and Will Graham’s relationship.
Tumblr media
Strangers From Hell is about a man named Yoon Jong-woo who moves from Busan to Seoul and starts renting a place in a goshiwon. since he started living in Eden Residence, lots of weird things started to happen until his curiosity has peeked when a close acquaintance had gone missing in the residence which claimed to plan on moving out the next week. he then starts finding a few things of the old tenant in his room, which led to him investigating why the Residence was so sketchy.
during his stay in Eden, the usually polite, calm, and composed Jong-Woo has evolved into an irritable and violent person. he usually doesn’t act on his impulses whenever someone from work or from the residence ticks him off until one of his co-workers keep talking down on him for his work performance, which caused him to beat up this said co-worker. personally, the co-worker was actually so annoying.. it would’ve been better if he was warmer and actually taught Jong-Woo the ropes, so he could maybe do better at his job. the co-worker was also ticking me off while i was watching the drama omg.
eventually, this break-down led to him losing a job and meeting up with his boss and his girlfriend to try and patch things up and talk about the misunderstanding. Moon-jo joins the trio, provoking both the boss and Jong-Woo. Jong-Woo’s boss met his demise that night, making Jong-Woo avoid returning to Eden. unfortunately, this plan was cut short after Moon-jo kidnaps Jong-Woo’s girlfriend, Ji-Eun. (Kim Ji-Eun, i was surprised when i found out she had the same name as the character she portrayed)
this then led to a series of killings, until we’re left with the ending that Jong-Woo was part of all of it all along, that he wasn’t really the innocent guy he claims to be. he was apart of Moon-jo’s plan, his art to be exact- dude this gives me Hannibal and Will Graham vibes ✨
Tumblr media
it was so sad how late Jung-hwa figured it all out and placed the puzzle pieces together. curiosity did kill the cat but it also has good consequences.
okayyy, on to my thoughts throughout the show:
Tumblr media
i was honestly so confused if it was platonic or romantic since Moon-jo likes calling Jong-woo as “babe” / “jagi” / “jagiya”. eh, its probably used to provoke Jong-Woo, since he physically looks so uncomfortable when called with the affectionate nickname.
Tumblr media
i can’t help but mention that i felt so bad for Seok-hyun (No Jong-hyun) when watching the show because i thought that he was like the others due to his first encounter with Jong-Woo. i was really praying for Jong-Woo to stay or try to sneak out with Seok-hyun, but during the last few episodes, he wasn’t really in his right mind to do so. also, if Seok-hyun wasn’t so curious about everything, he wouldn’t end up being killed by Ms. Eom and Deuk-Jong/Deuk Soo (Park Jong-Hwan, i honestly don’t know which is which ;-;). but eh, curiosity killed the cat.
i love how Jung-hwa (Ahn Eun-jin) slowly got into the realization that Jong-Woo isn’t entirely innocent as he claims and seems to be. the guy was literally still wearing the bracelet that Moon-jo gave him! the bracelet consisted of the teeth that Moon-jo mercilessly extracted without anesthesia/pain-killers. i kinda compared this to Hannibal (2013) because like Hannibal, Moon-jo likes keeping trophies of his murders while also under the illusion that he’s doing so for the sake of art and finishing his artwork.
that part where Jong-Woo and his old friend from the military was so sad for me. the part where Deuk-jong/Deuk-Soo where breaking the door down with an axe reminded me of The Shining (1980) where Jack Torrace was breaking the door down to torment his wife, Wendy. it was really stupid for the friend to drink the drink that was clearly planted in Jong-Woo’s room to drink. it was the same drink that Ms. Eom laced with some sort of drug to make you sleep and have almost zero control over your body.
Tumblr media
dude! Kim Ji-Eun looks so much to Ryujin from Itzy! while watching her scenes, i kept thinking, “Ryujin, Ryujin, Ryujin~”. anyways, Ji-Eun is a really good actress and she plays her part very well. i just think that she has this “girlfriend” vibe now to me lmao. she also looks very innocent too and has this constant concerned expression.. like Ryujin does lol.
Tumblr media
alsoooo, LEE DONG WOOK’S DUALITY !! i heard that he filmed Strangers From Hell and Touch Your Heart (2019) in the same year! this dude portrayed Moon-jo really well and i was wondering how he can pull off a tsundere boyfriend and a psychopath so well 😭.
anyways, i love how this show made each character look so disgusting that it was actually so convincing. their acting was so convincing and it actually made me think that they’re a bunch of psychopaths. like i was honestly so disgusted by Hong Nam-bok’s (Lee Joong-ok) character lmao, i was actually thinking what the guy would probably smell like since he doesn’t look like the type to look after himself and only cares about Moon-jo’s art.
in conclusion, i was really entertained by this drama. its been a while since i watched a K-Drama in particular and i’ve been really curious with what this drama is about so i decided to watch it. i’ll probably take a few days to try and move on from this one though lmao.
Tumblr media
thanks for reading !!

Thoughts on The World of the Married
Another drama down and of course it had to be the number one on the viewers' rating list.
Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD
The World of the  Married features Dr. Ji Sun Woo who thought she had a perfect life, having her loving director/producer husband Lee Tae-Oh and their son Lee Joong-Young. Things start falling apart once she suspects her husband of having an affair with a younger woman which ended up being true. Da kyung, the mistress, gets pregnant with Tae-Oh's child with Lee Tae-Oh and Dr. Ji was the first one to discover it. The first half of the show was filled with revenge and making you feel angry at Tae-Oh for betrraying Dr. Ji. It makes you want to watch it more and get back at the husband for cheating and constatly lying at his own wife. However, the 2nd half of the show started to focus more on their son as he starts rebelling and having somewhat an identity crisis.
Tumblr media
Also, omg if you have seen this scene (i believe it’s in episode 1 or 2), I was so angry at Sun-woo’s friends. Imagine having your friends know that your husband is cheating on you, I’d feel utterly betrayed. My goodness they were annoying af but they were able to sort their differences out eventually (aka more than halfway through the show lol).
Tumblr media
Hands down, the first half was really good. Dr. Ji who plotted revenge by having an affair with Son Je-Hyuk to telling Da Kyung's parents and Tae-Oh that Da-Kyung is pregnant with Tae-Oh's baby gave me chills in my spine. Some might think she's spineless for doing that but if you're so angry at people betraying you, you would want to do everything to get back at them. She didn't want to lose her fight against her husband. I was really engrossed with the show but I found the 2nd half of the show disappointing.
Tumblr media
The ratings of the 2nd half of the show was so high that the you know the storyline was written so well. However, I still felt that disappointment at the end because it still revolved around Joon-Young and not about Dr. Ji's potential love interest, Dr. Kim and basically Dr. Ji's happily ever after. I was expecting so much from those two because I wanted Dr. Ji to finally have a happy ending and to get back at Tae-Oh for cheating on her. But she was such a loving mom that her main focus was Joon-Young.
Tumblr media
Look at that gem! He was so caring but honestly Dr. Ji was so heartless HAHAH. How can she not fall for this cutie??
Tumblr media
I actually cried in this scene. Having to hold it together must be tough on Sun-Woo’s part. Being able to release what she truly felt was definitely heartbreaking.
Tumblr media
Joon-young's acting was superb. He made me want to throw my iPad once he started getting stubborn and so self-centered. However, i somewhat sympathize with his character because it was what he was going through as a young adult facing puberty with divorced parents. It must have been difficult for children with toxic divorced parents who just want to get hold of their kid. I commend Da-Kyung though for being able to separate Jenny from Tae-Oh's toxic ways. I know it's kind of controversial to separate a child from their parent but for safety reasons mentally and physically, you only want to think what is best for your kid.
Tumblr media
Of course, we can’t forget about Da-Kyung. I found her annoying and really hated her character for being evil but as the story progressed, she just wanted to protect her marriage and save it before it turns out to be another Sun-Woo and Tae-Oh misery. But like what Hyun-Seo said, how sure was Da-kyung that Tae-Oh wouldn’t cheat again? At the end of the show, I felt bad mostly for Da-Kyung because if she didn’t end up as a mistress, her life would have been so much better. Although “love” works in mysterious ways, she deserved a lot better (if she wasn’t that evil).
Tumblr media
I wished the writers were able to give time to show how Park In-Kyu, Hyun- Seo’s boyfriend, really died. If Tae-Oh didn’t push him, then who did? So many unanswered questions i was so sad.
Tumblr media
Honestly, I wished there were more episodes to this show to explain how the characters affected by Tae-Oh were able to recover. I wanted Sun-woo to finally be with Dr. Kim Yoon-Ki, Da-Kyung being able to do what she was passionate about and such. But I guess we got to accept what the writers had planned.
Since it’s the number one kdrama right now, I recommend you to watch it. However, the thrill of the first half of the show will somewhat died down and a lot of unanswered questions. It’s still worth watching though.

My Top 10 Kdramas
I was reading @overthinkingkdrama‘s list on her top 10 kdramas thus far and that got me thinking about mine. It’s been a while since I’ve evaluated my favourites and their ranking so thought it’d be interesting to check in. *frantically checks mydramalist completed list*
The problem is that after most dramas, I forget the characters and stories. There are many dramas that I have rated 10/10 right after having watched them many years ago but now I cannot remember what exactly I liked about them. There are some I remember because they’ve been rewatched multiple times. So do I include the ones that I’ve rewatched/are more recent that I remember or the ones from a couple of years ago which I remember enjoying but I’m not really sure why?
Let's start with notable mentions. These are rated 10/10 by me but I couldn’t fit all of them on the list so .....
Notable mention 1: Dear My Friends
Tumblr media
Somewhere after the saeguk phase and before the crime thrillers phase, I was in a slice-of-life phase of kdrama watching. I picked this up during then. There aren't many stories that are focused on the lives of older people. They aren't that well represented in dramaland apart from the sweet/mean grandparents. This was such a heart-warming drama that made me laugh and cry. It was slow paced and probably boring for some but I thoroughly enjoyed it. I loved the friendships and the relationships between the characters. Their stories were so touching and heartbreaking at times. This drama was very realistic, calming and meaningful. I definitely want to give this a rewatch some time in the future.
Notable mention 2: Tree With Deep Roots
Tumblr media
A couple of years ago I went through the saeguk phase. I think a particular mindset is needed to watch a saeguk (or 10). You know it's going to be heavy, with multiple characters and intrinsic details. There won't be many fast forwarding opportunities without missing key plot points. This probably explains why I haven't picked up a saeguk in recent years - I cannot commit to it. This show is far from the romance genre, it is a saeguk about Hangul. I remember it being an incredible story with brilliant characters and mix of fiction and history. And with 24 episodes, never once did it get boring. What a performance by Han Seok Kyu! Jang Hyuk and Shin Se Kyung did a wonderful job too, plus there a short performance by Song Joong Ki. Time for a rewatch?
Notable mention 3: The Princess’ Man
Tumblr media
What I vividly remember is me crying whilst watching this drama. I shed too many tears. Too many. The story can be compared to Romeo and Juliet - two people who fall in love in spite of their family's bitter rivalry. I remember it being well written with a balance of romance, drama, action, suspense, friendship, betrayal, war, politics and revenge (the usual mix really). Probably the best work I have seen of Park Si Hoo and Moon Chae Won. They did brilliantly individually and also together. Great chemistry. I wish I remembered more. Writing this list will tempt me to rewatch all of these. Cannot recall specific songs from the OST but I think I have a few in my Spotify Korean OST list.
Notable mention 4: You Who Came From The Stars
Tumblr media
I think I am the most upset about this not being in the top 10. The reason for it not being in the top 10 is because I did rewatch it a year or two ago and it wasn’t as enjoyable as the first time.
Shall we start right at the beginning, with the intro. I loved that intro and despite being a serial fast forwarder, I made sure to watch it at the beginning of every episode. This was the first show where I thought the female lead was relatable. Jun Ji Hyun was vulnerable, sweet, goofy, not the smartest in the room and she made Song Yi so real to me. I loved her more than Kim Soo Hyun in this show. I loved the internal/external monologues she would have with herself. As a couple, they had incredible chemistry and remain to be one of my favourite on-screen couples. The story was complete and flowed well. I liked the second male lead and the side characters too. 'My Destiny' by Lyn is still one of my most memorable and most listened to OST. I'm not sure why I didn't enjoy it the second time. Writing this is tempting me to rewatch this gem.
Notable mention 5: Her Private Life
Tumblr media
I have to agree with Deok Mi: Kim Jae Wook is so annoyingly beautiful.
The female character was particularly relatable to me. I am a fan girl (not to the extent of the character) and a life outside where people don't really know the extent of my fangirlness. This has to be my favourite (truly) rom-com. There are so many things that I loved here, but what made the drama that enjoying were definitely our main leads Sung Deok Mi and Ryan Gold. Park Min Young and Kim Jae Wook's chemistry was so natural. I loved how mature their relationship was - they sorted out all misunderstandings quickly and acted like adults. There was no pointless drama. The leads tried to understand each other and also give the other space. Ryan Gold seems like the ultimate male lead, he has raised those standards even higher. Side note to appreciate Deok Mi's wardrobe. Those pant suits were gorgeous - I wish I could pull them off. I guess there was a lack of real obstacles and conflict. But I liked that for a change.
10. Queen In Hyun’s Man
Tumblr media
The premise was interesting and story was executed really well. A truly romantic drama. The mix of old and modern world was done so well. Yoo In Na and Ji Hyun Woo are absolutely adorable together. Love this show.
9. Bridal Mask
Tumblr media
GAKSITAL! I was raving about this drama to everyone who would listen to me. I think this drama is a masterpiece. The amazing storyline with complex characters, excellent actors, epic cliffhangers, and breathtaking music (that loud/epic tune still rings in my head). The storyline was engaging and each episode always left me wanting more. The story is unique and I love how it explores a different part of history. The friendship and conflict between the two male leads Kangto and Shunji is the heart of this show.
8. Rooftop Prince
Tumblr media
Every time I think about this show, I'm reminded of the comedic and quirky scenes of the characters adjusting to the modern world (post time travel obviously). I like how the stories in the old and modern world are integrated. There is a shift from romantic, light hearted comedy to sad and melodramatic later in the show. The sad scenes were truly heartbreaking. Enjoyable watch, great acting, wonderful OSTs that I still listen to!
7. My Wife is Having an Affair This Week
Tumblr media
Another slice of life drama. I loved how the show explored marriage, relationships, cheating and divorce. It was only 12 episodes so didn't drag at all. The characters are so complex and human and the story is so beautifully written. Song Ji Hyo and Lee Seon Gyun are amazing as the leads, portraying every emotion of a struggling couple from start to finish. You need to go in with an open mind to watch this show.
6. 49 Days
Tumblr media
Everyone has that one show, which isn't brilliant but somehow touched your heart and you love it despite its flaws. This is mine. 49 Days has a unique story and I knew I was going to be crying as I come to love these characters. I did cry, lots. I cried each time I rewatched it. I cried because it was sad and it made me so frustrated that life was so unfair to these characters and they're not going to get the happy ending that they deserve... The writer stayed true to their vision. It wasn't all rainbows and balloons at the end with loopholes to give each character their happy ending. I think I love this show because it really pains me to watch these characters and their lives. I really came to love Jung Il Woo and Lee Yo Won. LOVE the OST.
5. Signal
Tumblr media
What a story! And the execution of that story. Amazing from start to finish. I can still hear the sound of the walkie-talkies in my head. One of the best crime thrillers I have seen. Cases were well paced. The mystery would leave me at the edge of my seat every time. A couple of the cases were REAL cases, which was terrifying but brilliant. The music was mellow and fit the scenes so well. This show and the ones below were truly an experience. Loved the actors and the acting.
4. Father is Strange
Tumblr media
Ah another phase of my - the family drama/soaps phase. After seeing a couple, I didn't go into this show with high expectations. It has the typical family drama elements: illegitimate son/birth secrets, sick family member, horrible in-laws, evil side character/bully. What made it stand out from the other shows was how the characters dealt with these issues. It wasn't the same as previous shows, the characters were more mature and real and dealt with these issues in a more progressive and refreshing way. The show also touched on issues including parenting, bullying, marriage, career vs pregnancy and societal pressure. I was so invested in everyone's stories and arcs. Lee Yoo Ri though. My favourite character, she made the show for me.
3. Reply 1988
Tumblr media
This is such a nostalgic, true-to-life trip from start to finish.  Reply 1988 exceeded my expectations, after Reply 1997 it was hard not to. What made it stand out from the previous Reply series was the focus on family and friendship instead of the romance. This meant we got to know EACH and every character and feel what they were feeling. The story isn’t fast paced with big ups and downs. It depicts the true day-to-day life, which made it feel even more real. I didn’t expect to cry as much as I did in this drama. And it wasn’t because someone was dying. They were the small acts, unsaid things that truly touched my heart. Junghwan’s and Jung bong’s terrace scene watching stars, Jung bong in the hospital, Bora leaving to go to the hostel, Dong ryong wanted to spend time with his mum, Sun woo’s wedding invitation to Taek’s dad, Bora and Bora’s Dads letters to each other, etc etc. I truly felt like a part of the Ssangmungdong community. Even though I didn’t enjoy the ending, this would be one of my favourite dramas ever. The length of the episodes and the ending has stopped me from rewatching it but every once in a while, I think about how beautiful this drama was.
Also, as an epilogue to the show, everybody should watch Youth Over Flowers: Africa.

Ji Chang Wook. That's it. Do we need to say anything else. Solid romance, great story, brilliant action scenes, gripping, wonderful OST, good acting and JI CHANG WOOK. Love this show. Ji Chang Wook. Watch it for him.
1. Age of Youth
Tumblr media
This is such a precious show. I have rewatched it and am planning to watch it again for the nth time. This show really defines slice-of-life. I am sure everyone watching this drama could relate to one of the girls or even just a situation faced by the girls. I was able to relate to different situations and aspects of many of the girls personally and also have seen other friends/family facing similar situations. I was really glad that the plot focused on the girls the most and not the boys. It didn't take a detour. It was consistent. This show touched my heart in the way no other show probably will (for now atleast). The relationships were realistic. The casting was perfect - Age of Youth 2 was great but changing the actor changed the dynamic for me. The music was beautiful - I still loop 'Butterfly' by Sogyumo Acacia Band. I have no complaints or flaws for this show apart from it being too short.
Just realised I've left Forest of Secrets/Stranger out of this list. EURGH let's add that in somewhere.

If Be Melodramatic carries on the way it doing, it's going to be in my top 10.
