Looking back I think its rlly funny that 18 is considered like the Adult™ age bc it's not. You're 17 one day and 18 the next and nothings really changed. The other gleefully sided with Republicans with Texas AG Ken Paxton declaring "“Joe Biden’s unlawful effort to weaponize Title IX for his extremist agenda has been stopped in its tracks"

The Judge in Florida was Senior Judge Robert Hinkle, he was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1996, Hinkle took the semi-retirement known as senior status in 2016, but still hears cases as he did here. Hinkle also ruled in 2014 that Florida's ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.

The Judge in Texas is Judge Reed O'Connor, He was appointed by President George W. Bush in 2007. O'Connor is very active in the conservative Federalist Society, Conservative Lawyers and Texas Attorneys General try to file their insane, legally nonsense, show boat cases in his court because if they get him he'll rule for the Republican side and against the Democratic side no matter what. In 2016 he blocked Obama Admin rules that declared Title IX meant trans students should be allowed to use the bathroom of their choice. While the Obama team appealed, once Trump was elected the rule was pulled and the case died.... hm. O'Connor is best known as that crazy man who ruled the Affordable Care Act unconstitutional in 2018, he was reversed, he ruled the Indian Child Welfare Act was unconstitutional, he ruled in 2022 the US Navy couldn't require Navy SEALS get Covid vaccines.

all to say when you get into a voting booth remember one of the things you vote for is Judges, who have a huge amount of power, and you can either get cool progressive minded judges who will still be making ground breaking rulings to protect civil rights 28 years after being nominated, or you can get conservative hacks who rule whatever wing nut thing they see on Fox 18 years after being nominated. During his Presidency Trump got to nominate 234 federal judges (Biden is currently at 201) including 3 Supreme Court Justices (Biden has 1) And those judges will be with us for years not like 10 years, or even 20, or even 30, no no no, Judge Albert Branson Maris was nominated by FDR in 1936 and served till his death at age 95 in 1989, JFK's last nominee, William Joseph Nealon Jr., passed away still hearing cases at the age of 95 in 2018 (the second to last passed away the year before in 2017) LBJ's last judge, Jack B. Weinstein, only passed away in 2021, there are at least 7 Nixon judges still hearing cases, 50 years after Nixon Resigned from office in 1974. We will be dealing with Trump's Judges for 40-50 maybe more years. So keep that in mind when you vote.

In the US, a person must be between 16 and 18 to drive, so they would need to be between 16 and 19.

Taking all of this into account, they must be at least 18 or 19 years old.

I think it's really weird how most of the fandom considers Luke somewhat- older(?) than he actually is? Not in the way that they THINK he's older, but that they treat him in the way you'd treat a fully mature adult man. When, in reality, Luke isn't. Or at least not really. I mean.. the guy's 19 during TLT. Which yes, technically makes him an adult- but let's be real here for a moment. Just because you're over 18 doesn't mean you immediately have the attitude and knowledge of a fully grown adult. Or can be held to the standarts of one. The human brain doesn't fully develop until 25! The guy was 23 when he died. Where I'm from some students graduate at the age Luke was in TLT!

No kinkshaming please, but also, note rule 5.

5. If someone asks you to spoiler a specific type of niche/extreme content (e.g. extreme kinks, dark and disturbing topics, (mental) health themes like self-harm or terminal illnesses, or any content that could fall under 4) please do so. Be mindful of each other's comfort levels with being exposed to certain darker topics. Being asked to spoiler content does not equal being kinkshamed.

I believe the reason that one post sparked issue is because, I don't know if you're aware, there's actually been a pretty significant surge in new fans in the past few months following info about Unraveled.

So while you have been here and posting your stuff for a while, for a good chunk of the currently active people, I think that was their first time seeing you. And also possibly one of their first times seeing art/ships like that up close, since keeper tends to be a first/earlier fandom.

Hence the stronger reaction. Though I don't think it's fair to blanket statement say they don't care about survivors. That's the sort of strawmanning/ad hominem talk that leads to shutting down/self-defense that doesn't get us anywhere. We can all rise above logicial fallacies <3

is is ever mentioned when you're officially an adult in the one piece world? because Luffy sets sail at 17 and Koby joins the marines with 16, so perhaps you're considered an adult by that age? But according to Sabo you become a world noble at 18? (aren't you one either way if you're born into a noble family?) But then again, if Sabo wasn't (as some say) planned from the beginning, perhaps one should not place much value in this reasoning - idk. It rather feels like you're considered an adult at 16/17... since the other younger strawhats were also more or less on their own out their (or in Sanji's case having an actual job)... and then again there's Bonney who is 12 by the time she arrives in Sabaody with her own crew so... then there's that^^ (but she might be an expection since she usually looks like she's an adult)

I don't think there's a set age for when you're an adult and in a lot of cases it probably doesn't really matter. Why? Because we're in a world of pirates and many children and teenagers have to learn how to fend for themselves early on, that's just the cruel reality. I'll try to give some ideas regarding the examples you gave and then name my headcanons for what I think the more "official" age limits might be.

First of all, I'd say Bonney is outright disqualified because of her devil fruit. One Piece doesn't really have a form of ID, so they can't check her age, but even if they could... you can't tell me Bonney wouldn't have a fake ID or get her way either way because she's a pirate.

Luffy setting sail at 17 is most likely because Ace sat sail at 17. Also, Luffy is Luffy, so he probably doesn't care about age limits.

I wouldn't say that Sanji having a job is really an issue here because cabin boys are common amongst pirates and so are kids helping out chefs in kitchens. Also, he begged for that job on his first ship and then got given the job by Zeff when they opened Baratie. They did open Baratie together, even though Sanji was a kid, so I can't see him not getting a job here. Who knows if he actually got paid either. I don't think we can apply our definition of what constitutes a job in this case.

Now with Sabo and Koby is where it gets interesting, so this is where I'm gonna get into my own headcanons.

I think the One Piece world might be working with similar age limits/requirements as we do here in Germany. That means you're legally considered of age when you're 18, but you already get to make some important legal decisions when you're 16, very rarely also as early as 14, usually with a legal guardian's approval.

Why do I think this is the case? Being of age with 18 lines up with what you said about Sabo and becoming a Celestial Dragon. Yes, you're born a Celestial Dragon but you probably only get the full privileges of one when you're of age - so, most likely 18. Koby joining the military 16 wouldn't work here in Germany, but it's only one year off and I'm pretty sure the bar used to be lower - which, One Piece takes place in a more historical-esque setting, so we can probably assume 16 would be the minimum age requirement. Especially with the Marines being this present in day-to-day life and supported by the Government.

Why did I say Germany instead of any other country with the same age limit? Well, on one hand because I live here, but also because of one specific reason: Alcohol. Usopp (at least in the live action) got completely wasted at Baratie and I'm pretty sure Baratie is a place that would check your ID if you wanted a drink (at least if it's running normally, not like when Koby and Helmeppo showed up). Usopp is 16 but he still managed to get wasted, most famously off that huge bowl of fruit punch or whatever that was. I'm very sure that that stuff would fall into the category of drinks you'd be allowed to get at 16 in Germany. Light alcohol like wine and beer at 16, hard stuff at 18. Some more hints towards it being like that in the One Piece world too are that Zoro and Nami had no problems getting rum, which is hard alcohol, and they're 19 and 18 respectively. Helmeppo was also easily able to order shots for himself and Koby and he's 20 at that time. What we can definitely be sure of is that the limit isn't 21.

Whatever the age requirements are, I believe that, while they would be universal for anything involving the Marines or the Government and probably be enforced too, in the realm of pirates they don't really matter. Like, as a bartender, are you really going to deny a pirate crew some vodka for their 14-year-old cabin boy? It's either you give alcohol to a kid and maybe pay a fine or you lose a limb - I think the answer is very clear. Different kingdoms could probably adjust the age requirements to their liking, but I don't think they could lower them too much. But I don't know, that's just speculation at this point.

All in all, being in adult in the world of One Piece probably depends a lot more on the respect people have for you and how independent you are than your age.

No this isn't like anything with Aegon raping Dyana, taking her surprise and her yelling at him to stop. BUT I'd say that seeing that your wife doesn't want you to touch her means she hasn't given consent. Alicent was very obvious in her lack of desire to have sex with Viserys.

We have no scenes of show!Viserys marrying and living life with Aemma before episode 1, right? So we have to assume that in HotD, he also married Aemma at the ages in the original story/the bks. Age is definitely a matter we can look at here to determine grooming or no grooming, but since this is a world where:

most noble marriages are arranged and those marrying often do not actually get to choose their legal partners

where the marrying AND consummating persons can be under our (American, idk abt other nations) legal age of 18

we need to see who pursued who before the betrothal (not the marriage, the betrothal) AND why they did so? Because there is a difference b/t:

someone trying to preemptively make their future spouse more comfortable with them so the eventual consummation isn't awkward or a "failure" or stressful or something else I add below about the anxiety to perform one's duty

--AND--

them claiming they are doing such only to get the target to fuck them/be more vulnerable to their influence.

There's no strong proof of him wanting a sick sense of control or influence over Aemma before they married or betrothed. There's no proof of Viserys asking or pushing for a marriage with her for the express purpose of fucking with a child, because he wanted to have that type of control over her or any child. And they were arranged to be wed. He was around 16 to Aemma's 11 when they married and they consummated their marriage when she was 13.

Under this context, the 2 years of waiting might have been seen as "too long", as much as it shouldn't have been, but for whoever were willing to marry Aemma off at her 11 yrs of age are probably those who also applied some pressure to said couple to consummate, EVEN IF the couple actually liked each other, too.

Even without some external entity actively or purposefully making that sort of pressure--either maliciously or impatiently, like ordering a consummation versus constantly asking about it--the couple themselves could have both felt anxious to perform their "duties" to & for their parents/authority figures/families. But we simply don't know for sure and it wouldn't be mutually exclusive.

The couple lived & grew up in a world with little concept of a strong "legal" age, or a boundary for girls that was also enforced by laws. A world where doing your duty to your families, to your "God", to the authority figures around, to oaths you take you were often held as higher ethical standards than doing what some of us moderns would think is an ethical duty to "humanity".

Adult!Viserys expressly chose Alicent, though. And with Alicent being very obvious, I don't see how he couldn't have seen Alicent's reluctance or hesitance in all the times they had sex (at least 4 for each child)? From what little we see, they don't seem to be a couple where they (really Viserys) at least watch for each other's cues or signs of desire in bed. AllegedlyLola on TikTok says it best of HotD!Viserys (but much can the same shoudl be said for his book version): he says he loved Aemma, that he will always love her, etc. and pedestalizes Aemma to the degree that Rhaenrya could never be Baelon, her siblings can never be her, and all to never really give us a real picture of who Aemma was so he does not have to divulge how some of his actions have ruined Aemma's life. Helaena not having kids or at least stop having them before Rhaenrya becomes Queen/he dies would have even helped Rhaenyra...smh. He doesn't ever think to not let his daughter Helaena marry at 13 & have TWINS not long after (as Aemma died in part bc she started having children WAY too early after they consummated their marriage); he forces his daughter to marry Laenor to fix a problem he created instead of actually thinking about what would be better for her claim and position--which is not to marry a gay man!, esp when everyone knows he is gay; I mention Alicent already...this is the same guy who marries a 15 year old but gets angry with Daemon for seducing his 19 year old daughter and saying she is just a "girl"...bro...Add on the fact he allowed a faction against his heir and be lead by his second obviously hostile Hand & wife exist in court instead of properly intervening and diminishing Otto and Alicent's influence over Rhaenrya so she wouldn't have to escape to Dragonstone...no self reflection, just constant deflection, ignoring, placating the wrong people, putting his foot down at the wrong moments, not pursuing certain avenues or voids of information like in the Vhagar claim incident AND allowed the same thing that happens to his first wife happen to his next wife and his two daughters...ugh.

Getting back to Alicent, remember, consent is not a one-size-fits-all. You need to constantly ask for it and confirm it.

Keep in mind that this is an HotD Watsonian reading/analysis. The writers chose to make show!Alicent so vulnerable and defenseless to introduce something that modern viewers would easier think of her with their no-under 18s (and in certain age gaps, really under 25s) rule without making them really think about what these people themselves were going through. It's easier to assess a medieval setting or circumstance with the rules of conduct that we follow and know and then apply to them as if they would 100% understand how we think INSTEAD OF us FIRST trying to understand how they would think & react to what they have had to live with or learned so that we may expose how/where the double standards are.

I'm not saying that we should go back to marrying 15 year olds, I'm saying take a breather and assess how these people will think & act and assign the "fault" of such to the world instead of just them. Where it's appropriate. I am also not saying that you shouldn't feel uncomfortable, either. I'm saying do the activity fiction requires of us and see through the characters' eyes to understand them instead of trying to enforce you own views right away and all the time to find the nuance.

ok I do think it’s so stupid that ppl are saying “at least my fave” re: liam (and zayn), but I also think we’re using the predator/abusive term too loosely here as a blanket statement to some of these situations (some not all. I do think he’s a predator to especially younger adults and teens and to his former gf). Like I saw someone say how she sent liam nudes with the thought process of “being his next gf” and she did so at the age of 24. And apparently in that situation, there wasn’t much talking more so, he’d dm a bit asking for more nudes, and the person would send them. Like yes, he’s extremely shitty and a major loser for doing that, but he’s not necessarily a predator to you as a 24 year old. You can feel manipulated, but you knowingly continuing to send nudes bc you liked the attention from Liam Payne and thought you were a potential gf doesnt mean you were ~preyed upon. I’m not trying to detract from his actions, but I think there’s a difference when someone in their mid twenties messages a ~30 year old vs someone who is barely legal or 21.

I wholeheartedly disagree that just because you are 24 doesn't mean you can't be 'preyed' on. Especially in these circumstances. The power dynamic at play = predator. He knew that these fans would do ANYTHING he wanted because they loved him so much - that is predatory premeditated behavior. It might not be "illegal" to send nude photos because you are over the age of 18. It is predatory. This is literally what Weinstein did for YEARS to women of all ages in the entertainment industry, that word isn't reserved for minors. And that is not just one girls story, he was doing this relentlessly since majority of his fans were teenagers. He emotionally abused his ex fiancé. General consensus among most people is that at 18 you are an adult, Uncle Sam says you're old enough to be drafted at 18. The World Health Organization is a United Nations political tool that does not have a great track record at all. The UN/WHO have no say in US politics or policies at the end of the day.

See, pretty interesting how its not much of a difference in percentages but the numbers are widely different.

I mean there is also the whole PDF by them.. You know so people can read the whole thing on which this data pieced from. before we dig into that PDF, lets go to the Unified Crime Report (UCR) from the FBI, our favorite Table 8.

I want to you look at these numbers carefully. Total homicides for 2019, 13,927 - The FBI include suicides in these statistics for the UCR, as suicide is typically recorded as a homicide/murder. Lets go over to the mess I like to call the "Crime Data Explorer", this is the new administration trying to be edgy for no reason with their data. Data set to the same year 2019.

That's 6,618 uses of weapons in a homicide. A little different than the 13,927 from the UCR. Lets go over to Table 9 You might like this because of the age brackets. Important to note we're still at 13,927 victims.

669 victims of homicide under the age of 18, and if you want to be semantic, 1,462 deaths of 19 and under. Some would think "Wow that's a big leap!" 17-19 account for a massive jump from 270 to 1,042. Most can and would attribute that to gang violence. Now lets jump to the new CDE.

1,048 victims 19 and below. Pretty close but no cigar to the UCR this time. Wondering where I'm going with this ey? Well there hasn't been a new UCR out since 2019. And quiet frankly the CDE is horrible to interact with and considering the variables I've found in it, I'd find them not very accurate. But if I would..

If we believe the CDE trend wise homicide is down, minus since 2020 its spiked a really shitty border might be a reason for that but I digress. (that means gun violence is as well by the way but otherwise down.) And if we want to look at 2022;

That's one hell of a jump if you ask me but also closer to the old UCR data though mildly increased. So in comparison the CDE does not have a good breakdown of their data into tables like the UCR. So all in all, I'd love to know where "48,204 total people died from firearm‑related injuries, including suicides, homicides, and unintentional deaths." As the PDF graphs you've give me to read. (Their number 2 source doesn't give the data they used for that quote btw) Because if they're trying to include suicides say from AFSP the say there were 27,032 suicides by firearms in 2022, but that doesn't stack well when there are suicides reported with homicide numbers in the UCR. So be it as it may. I see your PDF and I would trash it, even if it had some interesting tidbits like this;

I'd say Gang related or socioeconomic conditions may have something to do with this in urban centers and it's not necessarily a firearm issue. But anyways. wait where does it say daniel was 19 in kk3?? i always thought he was 17 and silver was a creeper lol

I've actually been meaning to talk about Daniel's age but haven't really had good reason to, so.

Daniel was SUPPOSED to be 16 in KK1. In the original script he very clearly is. Even Ralph Macchio still thinks he turned 16 (at least in his auto biography he did). But this fact is annulled due to Daniel buying a lease all on his lonesome in KK3. There are plenty of little things I can use, such as the fact that he was a high-school senior, and seniors are typically not 15 going 16. "But what if Daniel skipped a grade?" Mr. "I'm not going to college because it would be boring" skipped a grade? Fat chance. If he was super smart, that would have been explicit--at least somewhat. However this is more nitpicky proof, so I'll continue with the lease thing. That one can't really be argued. If you want to say that he turned 17 in KK1, then he wouldn't be 18 by the time he buys the lease in KK3. The timeline comes into play here as well.

Daniel has his birthday before the KK1 All-Valley, which happens around the same time every year. KK2 time skips 6 months after KK1 (because Daniel just got back from prom, so it must be around June, end of the school year), and KK3 takes place right after they get back from Okinawa. It can be ASSUMED that they got back some time in August because Daniel is being rushed into going to college--it must be around time for applications. Or you can just say that it was a summer trip. If you want to say that he turned 17 in KK1, then he's still 17 by the time he buys the lease in KK3, which is illegal. (I'm ignoring his canon birthday here simply because I don't want anyone to write this off because Oh he's only saying this because of the birthday thing! No, I'm going off of the notes that I took while watching the movies.) Daniel's birthday is sometime after October, because in KK1 the Halloween scene is before his birthday, but before December 20th, because he had his birthday before the All-Valley. Therefore, he would have gone from 17 to 18 way after he purchased the lease--which you cannot do. You have to be a legal adult to do so. And so, it is my theory that Daniel turned 18 in KK1 and is 19 before the All-Valley in KK3 (no second on-screen birthday celebration for him I guess).

Short form, Daniel was SUPPOSED to turn 16, but due to the nature of things done in the following films, he has to have turned 18.

If I remember other details that I can use to further this then I'll add them. But, yeah, Daniel goes from 17-19 throughout the 3 movies. There's stuff that he simply couldn't have done if he were to be any younger.
