kill him! blood and ashes, what had this woman gotten him into? did she some sick pleasure out of saving his life just so that she could let the bloody elders kill him? but she's rambling now, touching him and randomly. she actually sounds a little desperate. well, maybe it was his mistake for sticking it out for a pretty face. once she had turned him he should've skipped out. light knows he had thought about doing it more times than one. but he had stayed. and look at the good that it had done him. she had acted as if she was so in control of things here. and yet now here she is in frantic despair over what the elders might do to him.

he lets out a breath, heavy lade and unsure. his eyes search hers. and all he sees is that she's scared, really scared. what's he meant to tell her? is he meant to kiss her head and tell her that it'll be okay. let mat take care of it. burn it all but there was a part of him that wanted to do it. to take her up in his arms and tell her that the whole thing was in his hands now. not to worry her pretty little head about a thing. he'd get them out of it. but the truth was he wasn't sure what to do. and the truth was hiding sounded like the best option to him right about now.

jumping on that though? jumping on it made him feel uncertain. should he go into hiding? send her out to the elders on her own. and then what? he wasn't sure. but the idea as appealing as it might seems also doesn't sit well with him. in fact it feels a lot like something sharp twisting in his stomach. he doesn't like the idea anymore than he likes the idea of the two of them presenting themselves to whoever these elders were. must be pretty scary, he reckons. he was well aware of what she was capable of doing. she had shown him her strength. she had schooled him on the small amount of things that could do them any real harm. but the elders, light, she had said that the elders would kill him! which meant that they could kill him! not as immortal as he thought then.

suddenly with that thought lodged in the back of his mind, well, the front. but he was trying his best not to play the coward. but blood and ashes, he wanted to be the coward. he wanted to pack it all in and run. maybe take a nice long kiss for the road and head on out. suddenly he doesn't feel as good about any of this as he had before. even with the brighter colors or the way that just the mere brush of those soft hands lights something inside of him. even the blue of her eyes is so much more vivid, that ignites something, too. like the impression she's left in this bed beside him. like the fear that's sneaking it's way back up into the forefront of his thoughts. leave it to mat cauthon to get all tangled up in this kind of trouble because of a woman.

he leans forward to brush a kiss to her knuckles, something comforting. well, there's still this funny feeling of wanting to put his arms around her. to feel her body there against him. he wonders if he'd assure her if he told her that everything was going to be okay. he could cover her in kisses and make all that fear leave her face. that little worried look was playing tricks on his hand. light, but if he was that sort of man he would've just smacked her for it. he should. she had gone and dragged him into this without warning him. at this point he might've been better off bleeding out in some alleyway. what had she been thinking anyways? giving him her blood like that? connecting them together the way they were now?

"we'll get dressed - " unfortunately. he had imagined a whole day in this bed with her. everything felt a little more alive now. even the brush of her hand came like an electric currant, didn't it? "- make ourselves presentable and we'll go to them." he smiles a little then. well, maybe he could talk his way out of this, doing this at all. he could tell her that he was going to get cleaned up. and then head on out. he doubted they would hurt her if he wasn't there anyways. and he wouldn't have to worry about having her drag him down for the next couple centuries. he wasn't going to be that idiot, the one that tells her he'll take care of it. the one who holds her and assures her. no, he would not. he shifts a little closer to her, coming out of the blanket now. "people used to tell me that i could talk my way out of anything. how about you take a gamble on that?" he says, tracing the line of her jaw with his fingertips as he holds her gaze.
