I've been playing Anno 1800 way, way too much...

For the record, I've never considered myself a city builder type of gamer. My brother used to play these games a lot but I was mostly watching when I was wee little bean. I think he mostly just had fun sending armies around and destroying things lol but I do distinctly remember being bored one day and picking Civ on the PSX and finding out I was actually good at it or as good as reaching a point where loading the opponents' turns was taking so long it made the whole thing unplayable lol but I did reach some kinda moon landing phase or something... anyhowsies! That was my only city building RTS kinda experience :D;;

I picked Anno 1800 during the spring sale having never played Anno games before but I'm absolutely weak for the time period's aesthetics (also ships!) and I've been having such a blast playing and learning and ....what do you mean I've been playing for 8 hours?? This game is so immersive and I love, love, love the music and the vibes so much...

This game knows time magic, I swear... if I dare boot it after work, it's one blink and it's nearly midnight. It's really dangerous during the work week xD;;; I didn't expect to find it as charming and enjoy all the AIs and their little banters!

I finished the campaign mode (and deleted my save by accident, rip) and now I fiddle in sandbox mode but I super look forward to friends picking it during a sale so we can co-op and tackle some of the stronger AIs >u>! ...Eventually anyway, cause V Rising is getting the 1.1 update in like three days and I will sink back into my Gothic Phase™ !

I plan to wipe the dust off another old vampire OC instead of bringing Voice back since the update requires to start fresh anyway :D; Plus Miss Voice got her dream castle and a demon husband so... I consider her V Rising Journey to be complete! However V Rising requires well rested fingers and Anno has so much clicking... it's going to be hard resisting to play anything this weekend lol but I can feel the strain on my joints this week. I need to be careful!

But yes, this past month has been... more of playing games than arting. I'm trying to give myself more of a creative break? Like, treat art less like a 2nd job, play more games, go out more (since the weather is getting better!) and be less... locked on projects which is a bit of a difficult shift in my mindset xD;; I know my comic projects are suffering as a result but I will get there eventually! May is just a bit too packed with events/games/life right now.... :D;;

I also want to draw more Anno inspired scenes with Eloise ffff

I've been trying to poke the FF14's space exploration missions too, to primary max my gatherers but my FF14 inspo is still so low... T-T I feel a little guilty about it. My brain is just into other games right now...

Anyhowsies, that's been my life over the past month :D; Playing a lot of games, getting much needed serotonin from the increasing daylight... Life is hard and the world is depressing but when good vibes happen, no matter how small in comparison, it's nice to acknowledge and write about them too. :>

2. author's note: i'll share some facts about the manuscript's background/context/etc

okay! so!! four years ago i was in my final semester of university. to graduate with a minor in creative writing, i had to write & compile a "capstone" (aka senior thesis). your capstone had two components: an academic essay detailing your personal aesthetic* and then a body of your own creative writing. that second part could be Lots Of Different Things––people wrote portions of novels, compiled short stories, one of my friends did a children's book, etc etc. but with me being a poet, i made a poetry manuscript compiling a lot of the poems i'd written over the course of my four years at uni.

i had So Much Fun creating this manuscript, editing poems, compiling them, studying other poets' chapbooks to understand how flow & theme work As A Whole in a book rather than just poem-by-poem, etc etc. honestly i LOVE poetry collections and could ramble about them for ages, but the short of it is i graduated with a pretty polished poetry manuscript that could be ready for publication if i wanted to.

that's a lot of facts already so i'll skim over the whole Publishing Thing (i can expound on that more if someone else asks me this same question xD), buuut all that to say, the manuscript's been sitting in a folder on my laptop for the past four years and this past month i was suddenly seized with the desire to go forward with self-publication, sooo that's what i'm now doing!!! doing some final edits here & there and then hopefully getting it published in the next month or so :D

*not "aesthetic" as in, like, ✨me-core✨, but "a set of principles underlying and guiding the work of a particular artist or artistic movement" (oxford dictionary definition)

the fun fact about this one is it is one of the four or so poems in this collection i'm having trouble with and contemplating entirely revamping or cutting from the collection.

it started as a sonnet that i still really like, and then when i was working on the collection as my capstone, my professor advised i revise it to no longer be rhyming, since there aren't any other rhyming/strict-form poems in the collection. i did, and the resulting poem is Fine, but the original sonnet still feels like the poem's True Heart to me, if you know what i mean. so. now that i'm coming back to the collection solely for myself, with no need of getting this approved by a traditional publisher either, i may just say screw it and return it to its original sonnet form and let it be the only rhyming poem in the book and let that be what it'll be.

favorite lineees....i'm gonna use some from the original sonnet 'cause like i just said i don't love any of the lines of its Current Iteration xD the opening is my favorite bc i just had so much fun with the Sound Of Words & playing around with personification :D

…okay, so from what I’ve seen of Leo, it seems that the only reason he at all had friends back in college was because the Swap Institute staff talked to him, rather than the other way around XD (hey, just like canon Logico! Who, admittedly, was more quiet, shy, and socially anxious than aloof :P)

Seriously, I do NOT at all see this guy being easy to talk to. Paranoia, general aloofness (compare to his very friendly canon self :P), probably being kind of a jerk if the trend with logic-based characters is anything to go by…but hey, he managed to make some friends! Or, more accurately, they made him their friend, through the fabled method of “sitting next to him and talking whether he likes it or not” or, in one case, repeatedly breaking into his house :P

Oh yeah, Leo's friend circle happened because he was just adopted by the Swapstitute cast (one of these days I'm gonna think of a cool and creative name for it that deals with litigation) rather than them seeking him out. Compared to the canon, he is quite aloof, paranoid, maybe just a liiitle (maybe more than a little) stuck up and kind of a jerk. Not to mention, news about his past is pretty common knowledge- His moms were likely well known figures, and having the reputation of "Orphaned at 16 after his moms were murdered" doesn't make him any easier to talk to. So, how do you talk to a guy who's prickly from a distance and pushes you away up close? Well, depends on who you ask!

Seashell, for one, just kinda kept wearing down at Leo until he gave in. How did this work with Leo's paranoia? Not well, I'll tell you that much! But Seashell is smarter and more adaptable than he may seem, he did manage to pass the bar (without pulling a Midnight) after all. I think in his attempts to get Leo to fall for him, he probably would change his tactics a little and swear to protect him and stand watch . Does it work in seducing Leo? Nope. But hey got hired at the Swapstitute, so he did something right! (though, just, don't ask Leo to think too hard about why he lets Seashell hang around.) (Side note- Since it's a weekly thing, can you imagine if it was also a Sunday thing and Seashell got mad at Illogico for stealing his shtick because I can)

With the rest of the cast, they just kinda adopted Leo (And Leo eventually decided he wanted some more friends outside this one pre-med turned pre-law weirdo who keeps showing up at his house). He's slow to trust, but he does indeed make some more friends- I think Night and Azure were probably some of the first people he really grew friendly with in college tbh: With Night, I’m gonna borrow some more of your banger headcanons and say they helped Leo out with math- They probably sat next to each other in class and Night offered some tutoring, thinking that Leo could really use a friend. Leo’s much more oriented towards writing and research rather than calculations, so the extra help was really useful. In turn, Leo helped proofread Night's essays and helped them out in that aspect, making them one of Leo's first and closest friends.

With Azure, she and Leo were in a lot of the same pre-law and debate classes/clubs, so they just kinda kept meeting up and often were on opposite sides, as Leo would do the prosecution side of things, and Azure would be doing more defensive stuff. It was a rocky start to a friendship, what with Leo's more smarmy nature making him much more of a rival/combative towards Azure, but eventually he realizes he's a) being a bit of an asshole, b) he's actually kinda lonely and could use some more friends, and c) he and Azure are actually kinda similar with their ambitions and could get along pretty well if he swallows his pride.

And just as a bonus because Umber is a fave of mine, I think she and Leo became friends in law school. While Swap Umber is a criminal psychologist rather than a sociologist, she still wanted to understand law and criminality more, as well as the legislation that was involved in pleading insanity and the like, so she took a class or two at Leo's law school and they ended up becoming friends there, because Leo's corners were starting to round off a little bit by now, and she's smart enough to not start psychoanalyzing Leo until after a few months :P. Everyone else became friends with Leo through Night/Azure/Seashell introducing him to their friends and probably a group project or two. The cast all found him and adopted him, rather than the other way around. And honestly, having those friends is really good for him. With Illogico, he probably considered working up the courage to introduce himself to Leo at one point, because he was pretty cute, but upon sensing this guy had straight up Vibe Arsenic with his personality and the stress he put himself under, he promptly decided that was Not His Problem tbh. And Leo once considered introducing himself to the mysterious goth who- according to rumors- managed to deal with a so called "ghost problem" in the basements of one building, but the idea just seems stupid and he's too busy for much of a social (or romantic, even if said goth is very hot to him) life.

You can absolutely know that I was soooooo incredibly breathless!!!! That was absolutely a needed ending! And to be honest, I wasn't expecting that. I wasn't expecting they would put it there this clear. I thought the chat with ash was the little part for episode 1 and then they pulled this out and I absolutely freaked out completely.

I was absolutely stunned and I run around like a maniac because I couldn't believe it and I was soooo thrilled and wahhhhhhh.

You can get me with him. It's the truth. I'm a simply person.

Besides, I saw more Everbyte in this part. Not because of him, not because of the style we're used to due to duskwood. Because it was made with so much creativity and so smart.

I mean, giving us the end screen and than his favourite appearance move. It was amazing and I'm grateful they have this back to us. Very glad.

It doesn't make the other things disappear. But I think Everbyte still deserves praise for the good things. Especially since they now have the time do improve some things.

Fanfiction Tag Game

I literally never play these sorts of games, but I just stumbled across this one, and it looks really cool, actually. A fun way to look back at your own works... And I don't know about anyone else, but I always feel super awkward about self-promotion, so it's a convenient excuse for that, too. ^^'

Here's mine...

Most Hits: Lost The shame... XD We're starting right off the bat with a long-running, multichapter fic... that I haven't updated in about 3 years. It's a Digimon retelling that combines the first three seasons. Basically, the original kids (minus Kari) were all sucked into the Digital World the night they were chosen and the city was attacked... and got stuck there. Kari's grown up in the shadow of her brother being missing all this time and teams up with the 02 kids and the Tamers to solve the mystery of what exactly the Digital World is and what happened to the missing kids. This story holds such a special place in my heart... I still love this story, and I still have all the notebooks full of outlines for future chapters and whatnot! I have every intention of picking it back up and finishing it one day! Lost taught me an important lesson about not forcing the creative process. For, like, 2 straight years I kept myself on a schedule where I got an update out every month. But the pressure of that schedule got to where writing felt like work... and first and foremost, fanfiction should be fun. I swear I am going to finish it. Someday.

2nd Most Kudos: Inheritance A family-themed Naruto one-shot. It's basically a look at the Ino-Shika-Cho bond from the outside. The three members who married into it (Temari, Karui, and Sai) each get a little segment where they're watching their kids and reflecting on the connection between the three clans. It's pretty cute and mushy, and it put me in such a good mood when I wrote it. ^^ I'm really glad this one landed as well in the fandom as it did.

3rd Most Comments: Love Languages

(Not gonna lie, I was really hoping this one would make the list, as it's my most recently-completed multi-chapter fic and I want to talk about it. ^^) It's a Webgott-themed Band of Brothers story, retelling the tale from Haguenau to the end. The premise is basically that David was away for so long because he went deaf in one ear when he got hurt and had to learn to compensate for that before he could sneak back out and rejoin the company. Joe, of course, figures it out almost immediately, and the two bond over keeping the secret.

There was so much I loved about writing this story, mostly getting to incorporate the use of sign language wherever I could. I'm a big fan of this pairing because they're the two translators. I'm a nerd about languages, and their love language often IS language, in most fics portraying them. (I'm a sucker for seeing those German endearments pop up.) I loved getting to add another layer to that.

4th Most Bookmarks: Responsible

A Twilight one-shot centered on Bella truly realizing for the first time that she's never gotten to be a child, now that she's spending time with a family that takes care of her instead of the other way around.

I haven't written a lot for this fandom... I was never a huge Twilight fan. I've actually only really gotten into it as an adult, looking at it through the lens of these genuinely interesting characters... who deserved to be written and explored so much better than they were. Nothing burns me up more than Charlie and Renee's shitty parenting. This one-shot explores the effect it had on Bella-- largely, her low self-esteem and analyzing just a little why she might have become so unhealthily obsessed with Edward.

5th Most Words: Six Degrees

A very self-indulgent short, 7-chapter Naruto-OC fic.

You know what, though? I regret nothing about this fic. I think it's self-indulgent for the right reasons. I wrote the story I wanted to read but couldn't find. This one's pretty personal to me.

There are so many reincarnated OC fics... I wanted to play with something specific: The OC not getting all her memories back right away. As she slowly remembers her past life, the reader is introduced to an insecure, introverted girl about to graduate high school... and really dreading it, because she had no idea what she wanted to do with her life. Add in how she'd grown up in the shadow of her much more outgoing, successful best friend who she was about to have to say goodbye to as they went their separate ways for college... Meanwhile, the Naruto side of things explores Matsuri finally moving past her crush on Gaara... via an ill-advised fling that leaves her unexpectedly pregnant and thus, raising our OC.

While I maintain that this OC was not intended to be a self-insert... This was literally a study in exploring all my own worst insecurities as a high schooler and then young adult now that I've found my way in life a bit. A vent fic in its truest form. But it's very dear to my heart. The epitome of... This one may not appeal to literally a single other person... but that's okay. I'm really glad I wrote it.

Least Words: The Bonds That Break Us

A tiny little Kiznaiver one-shot that I wrote for prompt 2 of Angstpril 2023. (Invisible Wounds.) As much as I love Kiznaiver, this is actually the only fic I've ever written for the fandom. The prompt was just too fitting. I almost never come across these kinds of prompt events, so it was really cool to be able to participate in one! (Even if I only did one day...) And extra cool that it led me to write for a fandom I hadn't yet.

What’s something new that you tried in a fic this year? How did it turn out and would you do it again?

In one of my Hank & Connor pieces I wrote for Let Me Count the Ways, I did something I've always secretly wanted to do, and actually censored profanity beyond skirting around it with things like "he cursed" or whatever XD Because it was a dialogue-only fic, I couldn't do that, but I also couldn't think of a way to have Hank not swear, because he was really angry in that scene. So I gave Connor a profanity filter :P I don't know if I'll have occasion to do so again, because it's a very specific situation, but I'd love to try something like that again. Much more creative than writing someone swearing up a blue streak.

If you count the things I've written for Tumblr, I think the number would be 19.

3. What’s something you learned about yourself as a writer?

Unfortunately, I've realized I'm not quite as good at taking constructive criticism as I've always tried to be. Especially not at night when I'm tired. But at least that also goes hand-in-hand with more maturity (I think), as I remind myself to take a step back and try not to take things so personally late at night, and maybe revisit them in the morning.

4. What piece of media inspired you the most?

I guess it depends on what exactly you mean by "inspired." If you're talking direct inspiration, then I'll have to gesture vaguely to the Captain America movies as usual, because watching those and listening to their soundtracks are always what I use to really get me going for my main WIP and remind me why I'm doing this.

But for just general inspiration that makes me want to be creative and write from the heart...I think I might actually say TMNT: Mutant Mayhem. It was just so well done, so unique, so full of heart and laughter and realism (which is especially surprising, considering it's about mutant turtles! XD). It's just popping with life and color and heart, and I want to create something with that much love poured into it.

8. Did you write for a new fandom or ship this year?

Quite a few, actually! Courtesy of my Let Me Count the Ways ask game, I've now written my first fics for LotR (crazy, right?), Detroit: Become Human, Jak and Daxter, and No.6. It's also crazy that this year marks the first time I've ever written my favorite Star Wars character, Obi-Wan, even though I picked him as my favorite when I was eight years old @_@

9. What fic meant the most to you to write?

My Captain America fic Take Me In. It's my main WIP right now, and I actually finished the first draft this year! I've been working on this baby for five years, so this is EVERYTHING to me :')

10. What fic made you feel the happiest to work on?

TMI definitely gave me the most joy to write, but a lot of the time, it wasn't exactly fun :/ Maybe the happiest I felt was when I wrote the Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon piece for Let Me Count the Ways, because it flowed so easily and so well, even it was (bizarrely) the first time I ever wrote them. And I got to make them tell each other straight out that they love each other, hehehe :P

11. What fic was the most satisfying to finish writing?

TMI, obviously. It's not quite done or ready to post yet, but it's sitting there on my hard drive in a mostly complete form, sitting proudly as the longest thing I've ever written in my life...and maybe the best thing too? I can't wait to share this with the world! <3

12. What fic was the most difficult to write? Did you finish it?

I'm realizing most of these questions can be answered with TMI ^^' It has been very difficult to write, especially when I get into technical matters where I don't really know what I'm doing, even after all my research. I've also dealt with some massive burnout that makes writing feel like pulling teeth sometimes. But! I did finish it! I need to look back on this achievement every time the writing isn't flowing, to remind myself that if I could do that, I can do anything.

13. What fic was the easiest to write?

Hmm...probably one of my MCU prompts for Let Me Count the Ways. I'm so used to writing the FoxholeBros by this point, I have a pretty good idea of what they'll do or say in any given situation. Either that, or the Ed & Hughes Let Me Count the Ways one, because I could whip both characters out of my back pocket super easily.

Pretty sure my dialogue-only Hank & Connor fic for Let Me Count the Ways was the shortest, at 610 words. The longest...heehee...TMI, at 386,363 words >:D

Here, have the one new fic I posted to AO3 this year, the most recent chapter of my FMA genderbender, The Other Side of the Coin. This chapter depicts the first meeting of Roy Mustang and the Elric sisters, as he tries to recruit two young girls to join the military and try to get their bodies back. Meanwhile, Lieutenant Hawkeye has a conversation with Winston Rockbell.

16. What were you go-to writing songs?

I have various playlists for whatever fandom I'm writing - usually the soundtrack, and depending on how much of a blorbo I'm writing, I might also have a playlist of songs specific to that character too. My go-to song for inspiring me to write TMI in particular is "Everything" by Lifehouse.

17. What were your go-to writing snacks?

I don't normally snack while writing, but anymore I almost can't write without a cup of tea.

18. What was the hardest fic to title?

Um...how about everything I've written for Let Me Count the Ways? ^^' I still haven't decided for sure what I'm going to do with titles once I get around to posting them on AO3.

22. Share an excerpt from your favorite scene

I'm gonna have to veto TMI again for this, for the same reason. Besides, all my favorite scenes from TMI are chock-full of spoilers I don't want to give away, so yeah. Here, why don't we go with this moment from my Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon fic I'm quite fond of:

Qui-Gon was almost at the door by the time Obi-Wan realized he was leaving. Apparently, he'd said what he'd come here to say. “Master, wait!” Obi-Wan sprang to his feet. Pausing with his hand on the door, Qui-Gon looked over his shoulder. Nervously, Obi-Wan swallowed hard. He'd never said this to anyone, but when he instinctively reached out to the Force, it rang with the chimes of a hundred golden bells in his heart, and he knew it was the right thing to say. “I love you too, Qui-Gon. I always have. Even then.” Even when he was angry and hurt. Even when they were shouting at each other. Even when Qui-Gon left him on a war-torn planet. Even when their connection in the Force frayed and snapped, and it seemed pointless to hope they could regain even a fraction of what they'd once had.

23. Share the final version of a sentence or paragraph you struggled with. What about it was challenging? Are you happy with how it turned out?

I hemmed and hawed over this question for a long time before I remembered this paragraph from my Nezumi & Shion fic:

When Shion draped a blanket over him and tucked it gently around him, Nezumi never saw it coming. For a moment, he lay there, eyes closed, unmoving. But he couldn't ignore the soft scent of the worn fabric. A smell that reminded him of a stormy night. Laughter. A warm hand in his. Inexplicable, unbelievable, bewildering...acceptance.

The main problem with it stemmed from me writing a whole scene and forgetting what the dialogue prompt was, and then I had to go back and include it somewhere. So it took some work to make sure this paragraph went from being the end to transitioning into the bit of dialogue that started this whole thing -_-

24. What's something that surprised you while you were working on a fic? Did it change the story?

Ooof, this is a little spoilery, but it's the main one that's coming to mind. Suffice to say, originally I wrote a suicide attempt in one of my fics. Only after writing the whole scene, which had been planned from the beginning, did I realize I actually didn't want the scene to be about suicide at all. That had always been the plan, and it would make sense, but suddenly it became clear that much more interesting character development could come about otherwise.

I use OpenOffice for all of my story writing.

26. If you had to choose one, what was THE most satisfying writing moment of your year?

Hands down, writing the last scene of TMI and then showing it to my betas ^_^

After finishing TMI, I spent two weeks on vacation with my betas, and we got a cake to celebrate! ^_^

28. How did you recharge between fics?

I've been taking a break from any sort of scheduled or pressured writing since finishing TMI. We're getting close to the end of two months off, and I can see that it was exactly what I needed, because I was seriously burnt out. Hopefully I'll be ready to get back to work in another week and a half or so.

29. If this were an awards show, who would you thank?

*sniffle* I'd like to thank my besties, @rainintheevening and @sergeanttomycaptain, for having my back this whole year and encouraging me through to the end of the biggest writing project I've ever undertaken. I couldn't have done it without you!

30. What’s something that you want to write in 2024?

The actual end of TMI lol Well, I definitely want to write more Let Me Count the Ways. There will need to be something FMA to write for FMA Day. And I really hope I can start posting TMI and work on writing Take Me Beyond, its companion fic. I should probably also think about poking at some of my older fics I've been neglecting for too long.

Happy STS to you too, Dreams ^^ I come bearing the promised ramble!I checked the word count for the lore part of the ramble, and it’s over 1,800 words XD I knew it was going to be a long one, but this entire post is as long as a chapter of The Shackles of Time.

 I'll start with the update ^^ It's going under the readmore with the ramblings though because it turned into a ramble in of itself XD (I think it's almost as long as the lore ramble....) But! I think it's a ramble you'll enjoy since I've been having thoughts about your favorite projects now that I've got a little bit of breathing room from the Anniversary specials.

I'm wrapping up the last of the celebration posts. It's taking me a little longer than I wanted, but I just have one left to go and then I can get back to my other projects. I just noticed that I only have enough The Shackles of Time chapters scheduled to get through October's bonus chapters, so I will be buckling down and hitting it hard until I have enough to get through January.

I'll have to do quite a bit of writing on it, though, since December is also going to have 2 extra posts and I'm going to be releasing an extra chapter on January 1st to celebrate new years as well. So, that's 8 chapters I need to write, or at least rewrite, and then schedule before I'll feel comfortable enough to get back to work on Forgotten Gods' second draft.

That being said, Firewalker has been chewing on my brainstem for attention recently, so I may begin prepping the rewrite notes for it's second draft. I just really miss Thistle and Valerian and the birds and the utter chaos that is their lives and disaster of a friendship XD

I'm also still thinking of drawing the casts of all of my WIPs and doing proper character introductions for everyone. But that's going to be a very ambitious project that I'm not going to touch until I recover from the 1- year Shackles of Time Anniversary celebration. I've loved every second of setting up for it, but it has also been a bit draining on the creative batteries.

I've also been playing with ideas for what I want to do with The Forgotten Gods' world once I'm done with the current story. It's left off on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I could try to build up a plot for a sequel and keep playing with our favorite trio of social disasters and their Gods. I even have an idea of where to start building the plot points because of the motives of said Gods. There's also some new developments that happened towards the end of the story that I'd love to explore more, and plenty that I think can be done around the old, misty forest.

But, a certain enabler's questions (*coughs* you *coughs*) has got me thinking about my original concept for that world again. All of the weirdness of the Gods clashing and messing with mortals that isn't as show-cased as I wanted.... But I got to thinking on it. There's hundreds of Gods in that fictional world, and thousands upon thousands of unlucky mortals who are forced to deal with said gods. And I may have thought of an MC and God combo that is a match made by chaos, is 100% problematic for both parties but it's too late now, and while it's only a vague concept it already promises to be fun to play with. If it works out the way it is in my head, it will be a lighter, more chaotic, more swearing involved story than the original, but it would still be very much in The Forgotten Gods' world.

So I'm not sure which option I'm going to go with. Eventually I'll probably end up pursuing both, it's just a matter of picking which route sounds like more interesting. Though, even if I did know which one I liked the sounds of, which one interests me more might change by the time I get there. So I'm not pushing myself to make the choice now. I'm just letting my mind play with possibilities.

And before I get to that, I have The Dark Princess of Aconitum to consider. I think I have everything in place for book one of the trilogy, except the names of course, though it's going to be a beast of a project to actually sit down and write. The details are going to be the key with making it work and the foreshadowing is going to have to be on point but subtle. Luckily, I'll have several drafts to get it all ironed out ^^ I'm not sure if it's going to be the kind of project I can set down and work on other things between books or if it's going to be one of those that I can't stop until the series is done, though. As complex as it is, pausing it could muddy it in my mind and this isn't the kind of story I can afford to let get messy. And that's part of why I want to clear my plate a bit before I get started on it to give me the room to work primarily on it and Shackles of Time side by side.

The dragon/warrior woman idea has not entirely faded, it's just quieted down, so I think it just needs more time to simmer and decide what kind of story it wants to be before it decides when it wants to be worked on, and that's okay. As you've probably noticed from the rest of this ramble, I've got a lot going on ^^;

Okay, I thought the update section was going to be shorter than it turned out to be, but apparently I’ve been thinking more than I thought I have. ^^; So onto your real question -

Each God of Forgotten Gods has a different form. Some of them are more humanoid than others. Some look absolutely monstrous. And some are just plain weird. Their appearances are as varied as the Gods themselves.

Here's three examples from the gods I built for the story -

Corona looks a lot like a human woman with very dark skin, long black hair, and wings. She is constantly surrounded by an aura of light so bright, however, that it would be very hard to actually see her without going blind. She is a power sun goddess, after all, and you can not look at the sun.

Eternity is kinda humanoid. He's blue skinned, abnormally tall and slender, with sharp claws and horns and glowing purple eyes.

Cordial is... less humanoid. He has a deer head, fur, antlers and is a towering height compared to even Eternity.

 These appearances are subject to change, however. I haven’t worked out all of the details of this aspect as it never really comes into play, but I imagine that as a God gains more followers their appearance evolves, like how Corona has an aura of light, though her temples depict how she’d appear without it. The depiction likely came from priests/priestesses she gave visions to before she gained her aura. I also imagine that as Eternity regains his foothold in mortality, aspects of his appearance will change as well. Though I’m not sure if that will come into play in later books or not, but it definitely didn’t in Forgotten Gods.

 Which makes sense since Silver is basically his one and only follower, which kinda makes her the default high priestess and head of his religion, but she’s extremely anti-social and rarely speaks of either of her Gods. And since she’s the only one, he doesn’t really have the strength to do anything on his own. Soooo, he’s not getting many new followers anytime soon XD

 And I suppose that dove-tails nicely into ‘ They can't really interact with the world other than through the champions, right? ‘

 They can! They’re Gods, they can do whatever they like, for better or worse, often worse. They can send random people visions, talk in certain people’s minds, mess up your dreams, summon monsters, pull new animals out of thin air and release them into the ecosystem, reshape the landscape on a whim, paint the trees different colors, change the weather, among lots of other weird stuff. I’m sure some poor farmer woke up one morning to find an entire mountain range where their crops had been last night thanks to a God’s whims. That’s part of why what God is in control of a region is so important to the people there.

 However, Gods are beings of pure divine energy, so they can’t come into the mortal realm themselves. If they try, terrible things happen to the world as mortals cannot touch the divine without great harm. It tears their bodies apart, and it also messes with the environment and world in general. One evil god tried it once, but all of of the other Gods dog-piled him and then set about cutting him off from the mortal realm to protect themselves and their own followers. So all Gods have an unspoken agreement since then - no one enters the mortal realm. Anyone who does gets Forgotten.

 So the champions are an important part of how they conduct their business in the mortal realm, they can act where a God cannot necessarily due to their restrictions, but normal people are too. Sometimes a God will give you a vision, knowing you tell your one friend all of your weird dreams so that friend will get the message. Sometimes a priestess will be cued in on someone the God wishes to help. Sometimes a random dude will accidentally bumble his way into letting an evil God’s pet monster loose on the world. Mortals make useful aids when it comes to setting up the Gods’ games, whether they like it or not.

 The Gods can handle some things on their own, though, like you can absolutely get lightening bolted by a cruel god of storms for saying he’s cruel out loud and a goddess of protection can absolutely shield you from a blow that would have killed you and so on. But they aren’t omnipresent, so sometimes things happen when you’re God isn’t looking for better and worse, and Gods also have a hard time acting outside of their territory in mortal domains. If you say worship a relatively unknown sun god and walked into one of the large swaths of territory Corona controls, your God cannot really be counted on to you because Corona can just a laugh at anything he tries to day and say ‘no’ and block his ability to do anything.

 Now then, as for where do they live and how they interact with each other, each God has their own realm. Their own little reality bubble. They can see themselves in them as they experience these reality bubbles much like we experience our lives.

 The realms are set by the Gods themselves and can be redecorated to fit their interests and liking. Some God’s realms never stop changing, some God’s realms haven’t changed since they came into existence.

 There isn’t a large common realm, but if a God’s influence comes into contact with another God’s influence, like two champions meeting, they become aware of each other and can link their realms together so that they can talk face to face. When realms are linked, the Gods can walk over to each other’s domains like walking to a next door neighbor’s home. These links can be severed either by the will of one of the gods or by one of the gods no longer having the strength to maintain the connection. Fun fact - In Forgotten Gods’ a pantheon references to a group of Gods who’ve all linked their realms together and decided to stay linked. They’re like friend groups or alliances. Another fun fact - Eternity and his husband, another God whose name he can’t seem to recall, were apart of a pantheon before that pantheon lost a territory war and were all Forgotten.

Here’s three examples of what the realms can look like using the Gods from before -

Eternity’s realm is a ship on a starry sea with fog rolling over the waves and multiple moons overhead. Any light not from the stars or moons glows purple regardless of the source and it’s always night.

Corona’s realm is a city in the sky. It’s perpetual daytime with clouds floating beneath it. Her divine messengers, made in her image so they are also dark-skinned humans with wings and golden eyes, all live there along with her faithful companions, four golden dragons. There is almost constant singing and color everywhere in the city.

Cordial’s domain is actually a massive, rustic log cabin complete with a large living room with rocking chairs and a hearth, a large kitchen with nice tea sets, a basement stockpiled with thousands of different ingredients and wines and the like, among other things.

 And now for your last question - where does their interest in mortals come from. This links into the phrase ‘being Forgotten’ you might have noticed me use a few times, so this is a good wrap up question ^^

 Divine energy feeds on mortals’ attention. Gods need to be acknowledged by the mortals as a part of survival. It doesn’t matter if it’s positive interactions or negative interactions, but they need someone to say they are real or they get Forgotten. When a God is Forgotten they lose their connection to the mortal realm and their own divine realm starts starving. Over time, the God grows weaker as it feeds on their own divine energy, then the God starts to lose their memory, and then the realm starts to eat itself with little elements going missing day by day, and then, if no one remembers them or finds proof that they were once there, they disappear.

 Every god is terrified of disappearing. Even the evil ones.

 So when Gods get into wars, is never comes to blows between them directly. No, they direct the mortals to go after that other Gods’ following. Priests, priestesses, and champions are usually the first targets. Then they go after the every day people who followed their enemy. Temples are desecrated, holy texts burned, and tragedy thick. It’s a literally fight for their lives for both the Gods and the mortals. If a priest/priestess realizes their side is going to lose, they usually have something connect to their god smuggled out by someone who doesn’t know them so that one day their God may break out of being Forgotten. This has saved many gods, and gotten many innocent traveling merchants killed for being in the wrong place during a God war. The goal is to destroy any evidence that a God ever existed so that they will not get any divine energy replenished.

 It quite savage and brutal when wars between gods happen in this world.

 All of this said, worshipers and loyal followers are usually preferred by Gods. Having someone doing what you say/ask feeds the divine energy more, and in the case of a God war, a willing follower is more likely to try and save you than the guy you’ve annoyed with random holes in the ground for the last three years. Plus, the more divine energy you’re generating in an area, the more secure your territory is and loyal worshipers attract more mortals to you and will probably at least talk about you or say prayers which feeds the divine realm and increases their influence.

There are some Gods who don’t care about any of that, though, and continue annoying mortals for the fun of it. XD

 Champions are mortals who have been infused with divine energy, giving them magic and such. I remember giving you a ramble about them specifically before, and I think I remember talking about how divine energy will eat at a Champion’s body if they use too much along with the varied types of powers champions can get. But as for why the gods are interested in making them, the increased power of a champion is a draw for a lot of people. It’s proof of the God’s power, gives the god a mortal agent to deal with rival God’s followers, threats to their own followers, and just go out and win fame and influence for them in general. However, maintaining a champion is difficult since the god has to maintain a constant connection to the mortal plane and keep it open. If they open it too far, the divine energy will kill their champion. If the connect gets too weak the champion can’t draw on their power, this is much more difficult if the champion is outside of their realm. Which is why most Gods only have one or two champions since they have other things to do and don’t want to just spend their time maintaining a dozen different connections to their realm all day.

Morning, Rivie!! :D Thank you for the lovely ask!! I got some time to kill before end of the work day! Let's see...

Art Store/Book Store/Craft Store - okay seriously I feel kinda bad listing it as number one but it's really my instant serotonin boost. Going into those stores, the smell of books, the art materials it just instantly pushes my mind into a creative mood! :D

The Sea - I live by the sea and I love looking at it, listening to it any time of the year. Something draws me to the blue and really soothes me even when the waves can be rough!

The Sun - I keep joking that I'm a plant but I really thrive when it's sunny and warm. Once Summer comes and I'm exploding with energy and as soon as Autumn passes, I'm about ready to hibernate. The sun is an instant serotonin to me.

Doing anything creative - That one is a bit broad! Drawing or writing, anything related to doing some kind of creative project or bouncing story ideas and world settings with friends fills me with so much spark!

My drawing desk - Ok I swear I have more personality than "that girl who keeps doing art things" but I really just love when I can sit quietly on my desk on weekends, get my cup o' coffee and open a sketchbook or pick my ipad and zone out and draw while listening to a podcast or something! I have been arranging and re-arranging my desk and even if it is a bit of a patchwork it is very comfy to me right now! Or as comfy as I could've made it xD;;

Okay that list was kinda boring... but my other picks were new sketchbooks, coffee and aroma candles and they sounded equally boring;; A lot of things make me happy, small joys that make the days better!

Undertale Sans - Damn, nothing would be done in the house. We would literally just waits in the couch for something to happen. Though, it might work since we both have a terrible sense of humor. Though, I guess it would be boring after a while.

Undertale Papyrus - I love him and all, but god, he would be too much for me xD I'm not a cuddly type of people and I just need my independance sometimes, and my Papyrus has a hard time understanding that. However, his optimism is very well appreciated.

Underswap Sans - N O P E. I can't stand hyperactive people. I am sometimes because of ADHD but I can't stand it all the time or it would drive me totally crazy. I'm not a big fan of Blue anyway, he's too happy to not be suspicious.

Underswap Papyrus - Now that's more my type. Though it would not last because I hate hugs and he is like the main hugger of the band and he needs it to be happy. But we can be geek friends I guess.

Underfell Sans - Probably fine. I'm a video games fan and I love dark humor, so I'm pretty sure we would get along well. Though he's a bit too ok with sex for me. I'm aro and ace, so thanks but no thanks. I honestly think it would stay platonic.

Underfell Papyrus - That would never happen because I love too much teasing close minded people and he would hate this and scream all the time because he is a huge baby.

Horrortale Sans - Well, except for the hugs, he's kinda a perfect match. Silent, not always in S/O's lap and can take care of himself, with a great sense of humor. + the purring, who doesn't want Oak to purr at yourself? If not, you're weird.

Horrortale Papyrus - Too much of a mother figure. I like him but I would not bear his overprotectivness for long.

Horrorswap Sans - Ok, he's maybe calmer but he is still freaking me out so no. I don't know, I just have trouble with his face I swear.

Horrorswap Papyrus - A bit like Honey, the hug part would be a huge problem since he needs his S/O to get better after the Underground traumatism. But why not. He's a cute guy.

Horrorfell Sans - Big no. He's nice and all but the stalking part is way too tiring, I would get mad in no time. I don't need a baby sitter.

Horrorfell Papyrus - Probably a yes, since he's calmer and a bit more open minded. He has a great personnality and even if he can be a jerk sometimes, it's less bad than his younger self so it's ok.

Swapfell Sans - Surprisingly, it could work. Even if his ego is exploding scores, he's patient, he's not screaming all the time, he is polite, and respectful, and quite supportive over creative people. I think the fact he's playing tough and all but that he's scared of every little surnatural thing is pretty hilarious, but man, when I was little I was scared of Kermit and the Teletubbies so I can't judge you know. + in my headcanons, he is ace and aro too !

Swapfell Papyrus - Not in a romantic way, but friends is good enough. I love how chaotic and awkward he can be and despite everything he had been through, still being nice. I like the fact he has a bit of a secretive dark side too, but it's not a secret by now that I prefer characters with horrible backstories.

Outertale Sans - Funny fact, sometimes I have vertigo in my bed. So keep your flying crap away from me, bye. Moon is a bit too much of a jokster for me too, I would feel a bit too awkward next to him.

Outertale Papyrus - Lol. So, funny fact, my version of Outertale Papyrus is based on my mom, so, uh, that would be terribly awkward. I'm staring from a safe distance, thanks.

Dancetale Sans - He's nice, but man, daaaance urgh. I'm tired just walking my dogs. Rambo is also too wary of everything, it's annoying.

Dancetale Papyrus - Same than his brother honestly. He's a bit too overfocus for me, even if I can understand this, it's frustrated if I can't talk of what I like too.

Dancefell Sans - Why not. (god, i'm starting to see a pattern xD). He's nice and emotive, loves video games and traveling, and he is creative too. Rumba is a writer too.

Dancefell Papyrus - No thanks. I worked 2 years with dramatic Youtubers, it was enough xD

Farmtale Sans - I would love him, but the contrary would be difficult. Sam loves active people, and I'm not :') He is trustworthy, honest and say what he wants to say when he wants to say it. He's good at comforting people and he has animals. But he is also close minded, has no tolerance for lazy people and can be a little rude when he's not in good mood, which would lead to obvious conflicts, so... maybe in a friendly relationship but not more.

Farmtale Papyrus - He's too shy, I'm shy too. It would just be very awkward, but why not. He loves video games, and creative stuff, and he is just genuinely nice to everyone, and he can talk to animals. He's cute.

Mafiatale Sans - That wouldn't end very well. He's chaotic, I'm chaotic, leave us in a room and it sets on fire in the next 5 minutes. Though, he would definitely be a best friend choice since we have a lot in common.

Mafiatale Papyrus - Nope, Creeper is creepy and he's doing too much murder jokes to the point where it's very awkward.

Mafiafell Sans - DOGS. Of course we would be friends. I could spend hours just playing with his dogs. People with dogs can't be all evil anyway.

Mafiafell Papyrus - Dude, I have survival instincts. If I tease the guy, I'm dead, so I'll just say very far away from him instead.

Ink - That would be even worse than with Demon. Leave us in a room ten minutes and I'm sure we can break the reality by mistake. I'm not trusting the guy anyway. Though, his vision of emotions sort of match mine xD

Error - I'm not sure how he would go, but I wouldn't resist long the need to bother him and it would not end well. At least, no hugs, so it's kind of a positive thing I guess.

Disbelief Papyrus - The only guy I would give a hug to. But other than that, it would go mostly like Papyrus. He's a bit more calm, but he has lots of insecurities I can't deal with.

Dustale Sans - It can be fun, but Dune is too far gone in his world to grow attach to anybody. He just has a weird curiosity. But being noticed is already a big step for your relationship with him.

Oh god oh jeez. I have no idea what advice I could possibly give that wouldn't sound like a goose trying to learn English with a parrot translator. But goddammit I'm gonna try my way.

This is embarrassing because I'm literally in art school and I'm lacking fundamental advice for anatomy like those incredibly clever art-tips you see online. But I've picked things up along the way I swear. Maybe not exactly what you're asking for (probably definitely not - so I apologise in advance), but I think they're good to know anyway. Bear with me as I vomit them out.

Firstly, I'm gonna play a broken record to you on repeat here, which is the most important thing when it comes to improvement. You guessed it: PRACTISE (ﾉ◕ヮ◕)ﾉ*:･ﾟ✧

I know - Trust me I know it sounds tiring, and the idea is much easier than actually picking up your tool and doing it. But there's no way around it. Not even the most talented and incredible artists in the world become that way at the moment of birth; they're spending their lives practising and learning new things. Whether professionally or not, you don't become amazing overnight. It takes effort; and whether you want to treat that effort as work, or fun, is completely up to you. Being one or the other doesn't change your skill - it only changes the way you view your practise. Personally; I view my practise as fun, because it feels like more of an achievement when I make something I'm proud of. It's a win-win. Also because fanart is extremely fun always XD

If you keep practising - even if you hate your work at first and want it burned, I fucking promise you it'll pay off, even if it takes years. The best part about it is looking back on your progress and thinking: wow, I'm so proud of myself. For example here is my own evolution, one from August 2020 - to September 2021

(I was brand new to digital art with a purely traditional background, so I was extremely naive about the whole concept. Looking at multitudes of fanart is my only education XD)

This is the evolution of practice and studying the shit out of other peoples art; experimenting like crazy and teaching yourself from the basics to the advanced. Spend one week practising curls and nothing else. Spend another learning how to render skin. And another doing nothing but hands and fingers and wrists galore. Draw a hand using a photo, even trace over it. Learn your shapes first and then you can advance to the next step. Dip your toes in and you won't get overwhelmed <3

I know this isn't exactly nitty-gritty anatomy tips, but at the end of the day any advice is just more education; it helps all around. I'm gonna give you something else - a much more specific tip; an exercise. It's fun I promise, because there's no such thing as a bad result, they're all equally bad XD Shit - I can hear my teacher scowling, I meant good.

You can do this digitally if you prefer, but I like using simple pencil and paper, it feels more fluid. There are two ways to practise accessing the right-side of your brain (the creative side). Or in a less pretentious way to say: how to stop giving a fuck about being perfect.

The first way is called blind continuous line-drawing. It’s pretty self-explanatory: you either use a reference in front of you or just on memory, and draw it without ever lifting your pencil up. But you don’t look at your paper at all, you’re letting your hand and your memory guide you. The more you practise this, the more you stop worrying about making it neat and perfect, you can fucking let loose. Make music that sounds like cats shoved into a washing machine. This exercise will follow you on your other art pursuits, even if you don’t realise it. Remember, practise baby~

Next exercise, and my personal favourite is loose line sketches. They’re similar to continuous line in the way that you’re encouraged to let your inhibitions go and make a mess. You can lift your pencil, and you can look at your paper, and essentially it’s like sketching... if your sketching was like an ice-addict having a seizure. Which is beautiful! And unique, and dammit you don’t need to feel embarrassed, but none of these are meant to be perfect.

See the heavy loose lines that I use sparingly in the sources of light, and condensed in the spaces of darkness. I put away that little devil telling me to be perfect and concise, and just have fun and go bonkers. It teaches you about form and light without spending 5 hours trying to make it photorealistic. These all took less than 5 minutes, that’s how little I gave a fuck about making them perfect. And goddamn it helps. Give them a try, spend no more than five minutes on them, and see how you go <3 It works digitally too!

Okay this answer is so long and I’m so sorry, I don’t even know if I’ve answered your question at this point, I’ve gone off the rails. Hands... okay hands. Hands are the most difficult thing for me to draw, which is just cruel irony because they’re also my favourite aside from faces. The most I can offer at this point is that practise will save your life. Observe other artists and how they draw, take the time to notice things about their art that you wouldn't at first glance. The highlights and source of light? The length of their fingers? Are they thick or delicate? Are they anime hands and fucking massive? Is that body slender or thicc? Where are they putting the curves, fat and muscle on their person (or furson, furries are welcome here ❤). Decide through this observation and your own practise what kind of style you aspire to have out of your art. Do what makes you proudest, what you find the most enjoyable, and as I've said, stop giving a fuck about anyone, including yourself. You have your own unique take on reality and it's beautiful <3 You can draw blob hands and it's okay, because they're your blob hands :3
