i love the rhythm heaven fandom but also i am still deeply upset about the fact that in the rhythm heaven game polls i did lockstep beat dj school. it was so close and i was so sure dj school was going to win but lockstep won. 😔 i hate all of you /j /lh.
#puppy rambles#rhythm hell#i still need to do the bracket with every game. i made the blog for it and everything i'm just lazy and don't know what i'm doing#also like 90% of the matchups i made are unfair. like frog hop vs. space soccer. frog hop is going to get murdered immediately-#i might just have to like. figure out what the fuck bracket seeding entails. though also i feel like some of these are still requirements#sick beats vs. quiz show is hilarious to me. but also i feel like it's either sick beats sweeps because people take it seriously#or quiz show sweeps because people think it's funny-#which. fair tbh gfgdhfhdfzf-

HEY!!!!
Apparently this is what we're doing now? Making blogs? Or something. And I don't wanna be left out! So here I am!!!
I'm Isabeau (he/him), ex-defender from Jouvente, currently traveling with the Saviors of Vaugarde. Nice to meet you!
(Could you call this an Isablog....? Hehehe.)
Act Directory

{Rules/Info Below Cut}
hey! this blog is run by an anonymous user who shall, from here on out, be dubbed "mundie". it uses ze/they/he pronouns, and will occasionally use it/its pronouns for itself. it is a hobbyist roleplayer who tends to go overboard with things, and also has a degree in the arts i guess.
mun is an adult- indeterminate amount of years rp experience yadda yadda yadda. lets get to the meat of things.
this is an isabeau rp blog! while it's still in the early stages, it will have full game spoilers- not to mention the mun will talk ooc with the general regard that it's followers have, in fact, completed the game. please tread with caution if you haven't finished it yet!
(also technically an au)
majority of assets (as well as the game itself) used on this blog are directly from isat and thus made by insertdisc5 unless otherwise stated. things like sprites and portraits may be edited as i see fit.
instances of textboxes are put together in the ISAT Dialogue Maker.
blog tries to remain as accessible as possible, and all images will include ids in alt text (unless I forget). distorted and colored text will have a translation located in the tags. let me know what i can do to make this blog more accessible for you!
Anon: Off. Learn to respect my friends’ time and energy or die by my sword.
Magic!Anon: Currently not allowed, several stashed in inbox.
Interactions: Allowed and welcome! I may not get to every one, for a rainbow variety of reasons I won't get into. I will simply do my best! (Note: You don't have to be in the "group" listed below to interact! Come n hang!)
Plot: Currently in Act 1
Main Group: @a-traveling-star (King), @housemaiden-of-change (Noah), @studies-of-nothing (Nin), @snacksleader (Bonnie), and @loopadoop - check them out to get more context on the main story!
Rules:
No sexual content. Try to keep it PG-13 in that regard. Everything else follows the general standards of the actual game-- things may get heavy, so please take care!
No harassment. I feel like this won't exactly discourage any potential attempts, but its good to set boundaries. If I deem your ask legitimately hurtful I'm just gonna delete/ignore it. This includes transphobia, racism, xenophobia, etc etc.
This blog, as well as it's companion blogs, moves at its own pace. This is largely improv with some minimal planning for structure- we don't have every little thing planned, and we are pretty unfamiliar with each other and still adjusting, so scheduling may be messy. Please don't rush us! This performance is just as much for us as it is for you.
Try to stay on topic! Goofs are welcome, but try not to derail during plot/story heavy moments. Asks may be held in "stasis" until they are relevant if they don't match up with the current goings on.
Spoilers and potentially triggering content will be tagged as such. If you have something you need tagged, shoot me an ask and I'll do my best to cover it.
Joke asks are fine as long as you behave. Me n Isabeau both have thick skin, but try not to push it. I'm not afraid to put my foot down if you make me uncomfortable.
You can talk to the mod/mun, but I may not always respond. If something is surrounded by {} <- these brackets, that's probably me speaking. Remember to address me if you want to actually, like, talk to me. (I often reserve ooc asks for mundays unless its pertinent, so keep this in mind!)
i see you there motherfucker. yeah you. i see you. what are you doing here. i TOLD you there are spoilers dude. hitting you with my broom hitting you with my broom hitting you with my broom h

Just a heads up: you, a white creator, putting Native American/First Nations/indigenous inspired clothing on your white OC, and then calling it the "wilding" appearance, could be considered cultural appropriation and could also be considered offensive to people from those cultures.
And yeah, I am doing this from a throwaway account to protect myself because I know how Tumblr and the cyberpunk 2077 fandom works. Even if I do have a valid point or critique, I could still be attacked by "fans" on my main who refuse to use any critical thinking for themselves.
Safe travels 👋 I hold no animosity towards you personally.
(From a "cowardly" anon in an extremely hostile fandom which likely will pretend that this outfit and the name for it isn't tinged with implicit and internalized racism.)
(And, no, I'm not one of the so-called "housewives")
Hey Anon,
Not sure what to say, you claim to not hold any animosity towards me, yet this could've easily been a DM. I'm only assuming you're blocked and had to create a side blog to by-pass the said block.
If this was truly a well-spirited heads up, it would've been a DM.
But anyway, if you're here to accuse me in a sugarcoated way, I already know you're having the time of your life about it in some obscure discord server, so might as well.
The Aldecaldos (and Nomads in general of every clan and family) are multi cultured, there's people of every races, every ethnicities- we see it in game and it's mentioned time and time in the sourcebooks. They're communities, formed of many minorities; queers and pocs alike.
Valentin joins the Aldecaldos during the Star ending, just like the canon game event; he makes friends left and right, and friends makes gifts to one another. We also know that resources, clothes, cars, guns, are shared in nomad communities.
The name "wilding" is a direct reference to the Neo Tribe sourcebook, page 21. I used that same name for Mitch's appearance. They use those outfits to ride off near cities, just like the definition on the page below. They're both proudly showcasing their Aldecaldos colors in whichever place / cities they're visiting.
In my own canon, Dakota is kind of a mother figure for Valentin; she helped him after fleeing the Wraiths, she gave him his first gig with Jackie, she made sure the 'caldos ripper kept the bullet he revoved from Valentin's skull, etc etc
That Jacket could've well been a gift from her before leaving to Arizona, but I haven't decided yet. I was just happy to share my modding project of those past two days.
I've always liked Nomads and what they stand for, their diversity, their lives, their outfits and aesthetics too.
None of the above information is presented as an excuse, they shouldn't be seen as excuses either; I'm simply sharing what inspired me (actively or subconsciously) for this outfit.
If Valentin's appearance, both models and name, did actual upset anyone, I apologize, as this obviously WASN'T the intention. If it does bother you, I invite you to block me.
With all of the "explaination" out of the way; why are you really here?
Because we both know you already knew that about the Aldecaldos. You played the game, you know Panam is half native, you know there's a bunch of native characters in the Aldecaldos and in the game in general.
This ask isn't fueled by kindness or by an attempt at educating someone who could've made a simple mistake.
Nope, you're simply part of this "hostile fandom" problem. Everything you said in brackets reeks of past drama.
Again, you claim to not hold any animosity, but I believe otherwise; that's totally fine, but refrain from contacting me with this fake benevolence, everyone can see it's bullshit.
Repeating myself, this could've been a DM, yet you choose to assume I have some "internalized racism" that You Need to point out, doing so via a side-blog supposedly out of fear (since I don't know who you are, I'll choose to believe you simply by-passed a block) while also dragging in the "Housewives" for no reasons.
You're part of this fandom problem. You're part of the reason why nobody feels safe about sharing anything; you and your friends are out there spying, monitoring what everyone does, assuming the worst at any given occasions and ready to write callouts, to throw witch hunts.
Please, do some critical thinking yourself, remove all the bias and all the "Pinky Bad so this is obviously Racist" bullshit fogging your brain, and ask yourself why you really sent that ask.

Okay since no one else would Care on any other discord or media platform I'm on. I'm just going to go off on Changes in Apex again on my own Blog.
I can't stop Respawn or the Apex fandom. But I'm going to weigh in on this bobz video here about a possible "Ash Reborn" TLDW: He suggests Ash's sword being incorporated into her ult as a Melee, and giving her a movement based tactacle. keep in mind, he's speculating and asking what we'd like to see, there is no confirmation of any of this. But it's been something on my mind since Rev happened: The idea they're just going to start completely re-working anyone the main meta players don't like. Until they just aren't themselves anymore, playwise. To that end: I'd honestly hate this?
I already hate what they're doing to the maps. Like I get it. They were tighter, faster matches in the Halloween event. But people forget there are NEW people trying apex for the FIRST time. My friends got into apex when the maps swapped over and not only did they miss out on really cool locations like Rampart's ship on World's Edge, which, is just a huge POI that eats up time and spreads people out, I get that. But some of the battles are just more boring on that map without all the extra fluff. It's like they shrank it, and flattened it and made it all one dimensional. And that's not only boring, but they found the smaller, harsher rings, and the smaller maps really hard to learn on because they were just constantly getting pushed into fights. They're still in that "Looting" and "staying alive" phase. They haven't even learned the confidence to push fights yet. For them "Top 5" is a perfectly acceptable win condition. There's a lot of changes that feel like they're being made to support the bulk of hardcore players without really, taking into account...like Respawn, these youtubers, these players (and I've argued with some people like them I get their POV and they won't be swayed on this but,) They've been in the Apex ecosystem too long. They're so used to it, and so good at it, they can't conceive of like what joe schmo player who doesn't get 2k every game and might only ever get 2-3 kills a match wants or enjoys. And that's just a hard thing about trying to appeal to everoyne. Speaking personally: i've played so much I think my current Level is assuming I'm ready for skilled lobbies I 100% am not yet. I had a solid week with bangalore where I was crushing it and all of the sudden I hit a new bracket level wise fuck it was like I was playing for the first time in pubs all over again. But getting back to Ash Reborn Like…we have characters who are instrumentally different for different purposes, for a reason. And I fear it's something that's getting lost as Apex continues to try to evolve and re-define itself. Things can't stay the same forever, I get that. You're paying people to make changes, people get bored and want changes, it's cheaper I guess to re-work an existing character than add new ones maybe?
For myself: I want to play different playstyles when I switch to another character. I want to play what that character has to offer. Because I get bored playing the same way. Like why have a bunch of characters if they're all going to fundamentally function similar? That's kinda my fear about this "reborn" path and "reborn" thinking and focus on pushing more battles. You're kind of taking away variety and options. Maybe some people WANT a tacticle that makes people sit still for a minute? I love damage tacaticals I love when Someone's running thinks they're getting away, and I snare them, and like it cracks their sheild, or downs them, because that was the LAST 20 damage they needed to go down. I like to pick characters to fill those different roles when I get bored. Like Sometimes I want to be Lifeline calling in packages and picking people up. ANd honestly the care package can be a little underwhelming so I won't be too sad if that Ult Changes (they are heavily implying Lifeline reborn WILL be a thing.) But she's kind of a beginer character, and like those are fucking important? Let noobs get people shields and backpacks. Let them feel like they're helping. To talk about the Homogonization feaer a bit. Lifeline, Mirage, and Newcastle all have different advantages to picking people up. Lifeline doesn't have to stay there, but she doens't have a sheild. Mirrage can turn invisible and turn you invisible and give you a second to escape, but he's not invulnerable when he does it. Newcastle has a shield and can pick you up while protecting you both. Like, to slap a shield on Lifeline's revive, (which it had at one point) would buff her. But also like...it takes away a bit of what makes playing Newcastle special? And means Lifeline looses that challenge of knowing WHEN to pick up your team. Because just picking them up whenever seriously can fuck them over because you're completely vulnerable and if you're in the open you're just a sitting target for someone to shoot to death. I target Lifeline Rez's more than downed people with their knockdown shields out. Something I could see them doing, is like, Ying from Paladins, or Mercy's Ult/the Medic's ult from Gears 5 where Lifeline reborn just pumps health into people, or maybe revives the whole team at once. That'd be kind of cool. I'm not opposed to changes. But I don't want characters to ALL have a movement ability. Or all have Ults that are used for Pushing, or making them OP one man armies. Fuse and Horizon have fundamentally different playstyles. I wouldn't want Horizon to get a damage tactical, or to turn Fuse into a faster more movement based character. Fuse mains like to hang back, lob grenades and snipe, like don't give him an Ult that just spams grenades and recharges his knuckle cluster as he gets downs. Like let characters have individual playstyles. Sometimes I want to be wraith putting out portals.
Sometimes I want to be Crypto and like scouting around and respawining team mates, or hovering my drone so I can see through walls a bit as I'm fighting. Giving Revenant his jump SUCKED to me, because it took away a key part of his kit (the silence) that made him different. It took away one of the things that made him feel different. The thing I wanted when I switched to him, because I was in the mood for it. Vantage, already has a Jump, when i wanted to do BS leap movement I played Vantage. When I wanted to "Shut em up real good" and crawl and climb high walls to sneak around: I played revenant. Now Rev's new kit is cool, his personality is fine, I've even come around on the design seeing it interact in the Killcode series, but his abilities are kind of generic. It feels like a watered down Ballistic. Like, I wouldn't want Ballistics' smart pistol to be replaced with a sidestep or a fucking teleport, right? Because like that's it's part of him? Like I want characters who can change up the fight or push people out of holes without having to just run up to the team. I like Maggie's drill because it keeps people from taking cover when I have them at range. I like Fuse's Cluster because it can hold a door while I revive someone or heal, or punishes "locked down" characters like Caustic. Jump towers replacing Valk's Ult. We've got two characters that jump AND we have Jump Pads for Octane. And we have Horizon's lift. Do we really need another "movement" Tactical? We have the Drill for Maggie. Like thats why they're assault classes? Their tacticals damage people. Sometimes you want a class like that. If you want to be movement based or evasive thats why we have the skirmisher. Like imagine taking away rampart's walls and replacing them with like a double jump.
Like, play your character because you like their kit. I get they want to refresh things and people say certain characters are boring but like: Don't change the kit so that everyone's the fucking same. Maggie's Big Ball is stupid, IT COULD DEFINITELY be re-worked into something else. But it has it's uses it could be re-vamped. But like I play maggie to run with shot guns and fire my drill. I play Mirage because it's like playing Konkuro from Naurto: I'm puppeting my clones to trick people. These characters have different personalities and playstyles and like. I fucking love Titanfall 2. I Love Ash. People hate on her heirloom but I want it. I love that character. I fucking love her snare, I love the fact she says some Lowkey BDSM stuff like "Time to bind you." I like her passive, no one else in the game has one like it. ANd if they fucking change it to another "see's enemies when hurt" or "moves faster when X." It's like... Stop. Fucking Stop. Just make a new character you asshats. And if you don't like that character don't pick them. I have different "guns" for each character, did you know that? Bangalore is an RE-45 and a Hemlock, every time. Crypto is the only one I use a Triple Take with. Lifeline I use a Mastiff with (Idk why but all my best lifeline games I had a mastiff.) Vantage is a Sentinal and an Alternator. I crave different playstyles when bored. And I really, really, really don't want to see the game just become Homogonous. I don't want to see Ash's arc snare replaced with some generic hop or something. Like her ult is one of TWO that teleports people and it ties back to her fucking Phase Dash on her Ronin. Like don't. Stop it. Don't mess with that shit. Not every character has to be a "push" character. or a "Movement" character. Why have classes at all at that point? Not every person plays the way ultra competitive people in Ranked, or on youtube or the Apex League Plays. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you play this game everyday, and take it ultra serious: you need casual losers to fill your lobbies or who are you going to body every day. Let people have "fun" picks. Let people have fun. I like Ash's snare it's crazy useful sometimes. To take it away and give her like a jump seems like…why not just play someone else?
But what do I know? I'm mostly playing Apex at this point to Unlock Skins and because it's free and I'm broke. It keeps me occupied and it helps keep the voices from eating me alive when there's nothing else to do. I might not even enjoy this game anymore so maybe I don't have room to talk about it. Like, I eventually came around on the Redesign for Revenant and I'll play him, but like...it's not the same as when I'd be like: "You know what? I want to sling shot balls at people and scuttle around. I'm gonna switch to Revenant today." Idk. I know that Apex today is not the same as the Apex it was before I got involved. So it's always been changing and it always will be changing. And Autistic people: We're just a big fucking fan of change. Really, just really fires all the dopamine. So take it with a grain of salt. I'm just getting my opinion out on this. Like let Wraith mains and movement players play Wraith, don't try to turn everyone into wraith.

Who the Fuck is Eskel?
If you have ever gone on The Witcher tag on Tumblr, I’m sure you’ve seen dozens of blogs dedicated to this guy named Eskel and for people who have just seen the show you might be wondering - who the fuck is this guy?
Hi, I’m Aaliyah, and this is Part 5 of my WTF Series - a crash course in subjects from The Witcher Books.
Post under the cut
Let’s jump in by talking about what books Eskel is in. He’s only mentioned in one line in The Last Wish, The Tower of Swallows and The Time of Contempt. He has a flashback scene in Lady of the Lake and the only book where he plays a heavy role in is Blood of Elves.
For all you Eskel Stans out there, this is good news, because it looks like S2 of the show is going to be taking some cues from Blood of Elves and we do know Eskel is going to be appearing so these scenes might be showing up in some form or another in the show.
We first meet Eskel in Blood of Elves when Geralt is first bringing Ciri to the keep:
“Who comes?” Ciri heard a menacing, metallic voice which sounded like a dog’s bark. “Geralt?”
“Yes, Eskel. It’s me.”
“Come in.”
The witcher dismounted, took Ciri from the saddle, stood her on the ground and pressed a bundle into her little hands which she grabbed tightly, only regretting that it was too small for her to hide behind completely.
“Wait here with Eskel,” he said. “I’ll take Roach to the stables.”
“Come into the light, laddie,” growled the man called Eskel. “Don’t lurk in the dark.”
Ciri looked up into his face and barely restrained her frightened scream. He wasn’t human. Although he stood on two legs, although he smelled of sweat and smoke, although he wore ordinary human clothes, he was not human. No human can have a face like that, she thought.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” repeated Eskel.
She didn’t move. In the darkness she heard the clatter of Roach’s horseshoes grow fainter. Something soft and squeaking ran over her foot. She jumped. “Don’t loiter in the dark, or the rats will eat your boots.”
Still clinging to her bundle Ciri moved briskly towards the light. The rats bolted out from beneath her feet with a squeak. Eskel leaned over, took the package from her and pulled back her hood.
“A plague on it,” he muttered. “A girl. That’s all we need.”
She glanced at him, frightened. Eskel was smiling. She saw that he was human after all, that he had an entirely human face, deformed by a long, ugly, semi-circular scar running from the corner of his mouth across the length of his cheek up to the ear.
“Since you’re here, welcome to Kaer Morhen,” he said. “What do they call you?”
“Ciri,” Geralt replied for her, silently emerging from the darkness. Eskel turned around. Suddenly, quickly, wordlessly, the witchers fell into each other’s arms and wound their shoulders around each other tight and hard. For one brief moment.
“Wolf, you’re alive.”
“I am.”
“All right.” Eskel took a torch from its bracket. “Come on. I’m closing the inner gates to stop the heat escaping.”
Couple things here. First, for all the game fans out there, Eskel’s scar in the books is VERY different. It’s not the lightening-like claw marks that go over his eye but instead it goes from the corner of his mouth to his ear. This is interesting because it really parallels in my mind Ciri’s scar she gets later on that extends from under her eye to her ear.
Also, the little reunion between Geralt and Eskel, so sweet. The line about Eskel in Last Wish establishes that they were close friends so here is the snippet just to give more backstory to the two of them:
“Once, years ago, when a little snot-faced brat following his studies in Kaer Morhen, the Witchers’ Settlement, he and a friend, Eskel, had captured a huge forest bumblebee and tied it to a jug with a thread. They were in fits of laughter watching the antics of the tied bumblebee, until Vesemir, their tutor, caught them at it and tanned their hides with a leather strap.”
Childhood friends and brothers is just so damn great. Actually, speaking of brothers, it is stated in Blood of Elves that Geralt and Eskel actually look very similar and are often mistaken for brothers such as in this scene from Triss’s POV.
Eskel stood next to Geralt, resembling the Wolf like a brother apart from the colour of his hair and the long scar which disfigured his cheek. And the youngest of the Kaer Morhen witchers, Lambert, was there with his usual ugly, mocking expression. Vesemir was not there.
“Welcome and come in,” said Eskel. “It is as cold and blustery as if someone has hung themselves. Ciri, where are you off to? The invitation does not apply to you. The sun is still high, even if it is obscured. You can still train.”
“Hey.” The Enchantress tossed her hair. “Politeness comes cheap in Witchers’ Keep now, I see. Ciri was the first to greet me, and brought me to the castle. She ought to keep me company—”
This really interests me because Ciri is very young child when she meets Eskel and she is very terrified of him and intimidated. Which makes sense, she is very traumatized. But, when Triss meets Eskel she only makes a short note of his scar and focuses more on his resemblance to Geralt and commenting on the lack of politeness. It just goes to show how different characters perceive people differently. A child’s perspective of a warrior is not going to be the same as a Mage’s.
“You didn’t even know.” She nodded in what was now a calm, concerned and gentle reproach. “You’re pathetic guardians. She’s ashamed to tell you because she was taught not to mention such complaints to men. And she’s ashamed of the weakness, the pain and the fact that she is less fit. Has any one of you thought about that? Taken any interest in it? Or tried to guess what might be the matter with her? Maybe her very first bleed happened here, in Kaer Morhen? And she cried to herself at night, unable to find any sympathy, consolation or even understanding from anyone? Has any one of you given it any thought whatsoever?”
“Stop it, Triss,” moaned Geralt quietly. “That’s enough. You’ve achieved what you wanted. And maybe even more.”
“The devil take it,” cursed Coën. “We’ve turned out to be right idiots, there’s no two ways about it, eh, Vesemir, and you—”
“Silence,” growled the old witcher. “Not a word.”
It was Eskel’s behaviour which was most unlikely; he got up, approached the enchantress, bent down low, took her hand and kissed it respectfully. She swiftly withdrew her hand. Not so as to demonstrate her anger and annoyance but to break the pleasant, piercing vibration triggered by the witcher’s touch. Eskel emanated powerfully. More powerfully than Geralt.
“Triss,” he said, rubbing the hideous scar on his cheek with embarrassment, “help us. We ask you. Help us, Triss.”
Now, if you can’t tell, Triss’ favorite is Eskel. This scene is also implies that Eskel is more magically powerful than Geralt which Is very interesting. But Triss is an Eskel stan, in fact a couple lines later Triss thinks to herself:
Vesemir hawked again. But Eskel, dear Eskel, kept his head and once more behaved as was fitting.
“Of course,” he said casually, smiling. “We understand and clearly we will postpone your exercises until your indisposition has passed. We will also cut the theory short and, if you feel unwell, we will put it aside for the time being, too. If you need any medication or—”
Eskel definitely has the older sibling energy where he ends up in charge sometimes and knows how to keep a cool head. He’s also the most aware of societal norms of behavior which is why Triss likes his so much. She really respects people who know how to move in society.
There’s also this scene in Blood of Elves where Eskel is drinking and offers Triss some:
“White Seagull.”
“What?”
“A mild remedy,” Eskel smiled, “for pleasant dreams.”
“Damn it! A witcher hallucinogenic? That’s why your eyes shine like that in the evenings!”
“White Seagull is very gentle. It’s Black Seagull that is hallucinogenic.”
“If there’s magic in this liquid I’m not allowed to take it!”
“Exclusively natural ingredients,” Geralt reassured her but he looked, she noticed, disconcerted. He was clearly afraid she would question them about the elixir’s ingredients. “And diluted with a great deal of water. We would not offer you anything that could harm you.”
I think it’s very funny how secret The Witcher keeps all their potions and elixirs. Whether it’s mushrooms or potions, they gotta keep those secret drugs locked down tight. Also the fact that Eskel is the fantasy equivalent of high every night? Love that for him.
Eskel really is the peace-maker of the group. He’s not a push-over by any means but he is definitely more willing to play along that any of the others. When Triss is talking at night, Eskel is really the only one listening and engaging, even if it’s very half-hearted.
In the evenings, consistently and determinedly, Triss guided the long conversations held in the dark hall, lit only by the bursts of flames in the great hearth, towards politics. The witchers’ reactions were always the same. Geralt, a hand on his forehead, did not say a word.
Vesemir nodded, from time to time throwing in comments which amounted to little more than that “in his day” everything had been better, more logical, more honest and healthier.
Eskel pretended to be polite, and neither smiled nor made eye contact, and even managed, very occasionally, to be interested in some issue or question of little importance. Coën yawned openly and looked at the ceiling, and Lambert did nothing to hide his disdain.
And he is really the only sort-of listener to Triss’ stories and retellings of events:
This time it was Triss who began to yawn and stare at the ceiling. This time she was the one who remained silent – until Eskel turned to her with a question. A question which she had anticipated.
“And what is it really like in the south, on the Yaruga? Is it worth going there? We wouldn’t like to find ourselves in the middle of any trouble.”
“What do you mean by trouble?”
“Well, you know…” he stammered, “you keep telling us about the possibility of a new war… About constant fighting on the borders, about rebellions in the lands invaded by Nilfgaard. You said they’re saying the Nilfgaardians might cross the Yaruga again—”
“So what?” said Lambert. “They’ve been hitting, killing and striking against each other constantly for hundreds of years. It’s nothing to worry about. I’ve already decided – I’m going to the far South, to Sodden, Mahakam and Angren. It’s well known that monsters abound wherever armies have passed. The most money is always made in places like that.”
“True,” Coën acknowledged. “The neighbourhood grows deserted, only women who can’t fend for themselves remain in the villages… scores of children with no home or care, roaming around… Easy prey attracts monsters.”
“And the lord barons and village elders,” added Eskel, “have their heads full of the war and don’t have the time to defend their subjects. They have to hire us. It’s true. But from what Triss has been telling us all these evenings, it seems the conflict with Nilfgaard is more serious than that, not just some local little war. Is that right, Triss?”
Once more, Eskel is the peace-maker of the conversation and he brings it back around to what Triss originally said and also points to her expertise. Basically, Eskel is not really a fan of verbal conflict.
This is actually the last line we see Eskel in a scene outside of the flashback in Lady of the Lake. After this, Triss, Geralt and Ciri head off. It is important to note that near the end of Blood of Elves Ciri says this about Yennefer:
The lady magician knew a surprising amount about a witcher’s sword and “dance.” She knew a great deal about the secrets of Kaer Morhen; there was no doubt she had visited the Keep. She knew Vesemir and Eskel. Although not Lambert and Coën.
Yennefer used to visit Kaer Morhen. Ciri guessed why – when they spoke of the Keep – the eyes of the enchantress grew warm, lost their angry gleam and their cold, indifferent, wise depth. If the words had befitted Yennefer’s person, Ciri would have called her dreamy, lost in memories.
So clearly Yennefer is also friendly with Eskel and knows him. I love the idea that Yennefer regularly visited Kaer Morhen before Ciri came into Geralt’s care and I would literally cry if they did a flashback sequence in S2 of Yennefer visiting Geralt in Kaer Morhen.
The flashback sequence in Lady of the Lake with Eskel goes like this:
The fire in the huge fireplace went out. A gust of wind from the mountains whistled through the crevices of the walls and screamed through the improperly closed shutters of Kaer Morhen, Home of the Witchers.
“Damn it!” Eskel said, standing up and going to the cupboard. “Seagull or vodka?”
“Vodka,” Geralt and Coen said with one voice.
“Sure,” interjected Vesemir, hidden in the shadows, “Yes, of course! Drown your stupidity in vodka. Damn fools!”
“It was an accident…” muttered Lambert. “She had already mastered the comb…”
“Shut your big mouth, you idiot! I don’t want to hear any more! I warned you, if something happened to that little girl…”
“Enough,” Coen interrupted him, softly. “She sleeps peacefully. Deep and healthy. She will wake up a bit sore, but that’s it. About the trance, and what happened, she will not even remember it.”
“As long as you remember,” said Vesemir, panting angrily. “Cabbage heads! Pour for me too, Eskel.”
They were silent for a long time, listening intently to the howling gale.
“We will need to call someone,” Eskel finally said. “We will need to bring a sorcerer here. What is happening to the girl, it is not normal.”
Eskel is one of The Witcher who really pushes to call Triss in order to help with Ciri’s trances. Also, once again this guy is hitting the drinks.
So yeah! That’s Eskel in the books. Based on how in the non-canon wedding short Asaps wrote where he ended up having Triss and Eskel get together, I think his hints of them having a connection in the books is very intentional and if The Witcher wasn’t such a god damn tragedy and Triss wasn’t mooning over Geralt, I’m willing to bet they would have gotten together at some point.
Eskel is the peace-maker of the family and is the best at recognizing the norms of “polite society” (or at least noble society) and while Ciri might have been scared of his appearance, it isn’t enough to phase Triss who is considered rather vain. In fact, she seems to respect Eskel the most out of the Witchers. Just imagine a dark-haired, scarred Geralt and BOOM, you got yourself an Eskel.

Make You Happy
(again, housekeeping and moving things to the new blog. Ignore me!)
Explicit, Warnings: knotting, virgin Jaskier, sex slave Jaskier, a/b/o. Geraskier.
Anonymous asked: Virgin Sex Slave Jaskier to the Wolves. Maybe his first introduction to fucking a Witcher and their MASSIVE cocks after his purchase? Dubcon to oh fuck yes. So, learning about sex, breeding and lots of cum? A/B/O or knots (don't have to be combined) for flavour if you'd like. (age is up to you, but since you didn't mention it, 18+ is perfect.)
Anon, I have to apologize a little here. I went off script. I can definitely be talked into writing a follow up where Geralt shares his slave with the other wolves, but I felt like he needed to take what was his first. Have 2k of sassy Jaskier who has absolutely no idea what he’s getting himself into. I wrote this picturing him as 18, but didn’t state it so let your mind go wild.
---
The omega is quiet as they walk back to Geralt’s campsite. How the fuck does he get himself into these situations? Who wins a sex slave in a game of Gwent? He honestly hadn’t expected to win that game, but that obviously doesn’t matter now.
“Do you sleep outside all the time?” the omega asks quietly, breaking Geralt out of his thoughts.
“Not all the time, but towns aren’t often kind to me,” Geralt informs him, adding a rushed out “sorry” to the end of it.
“I like the stars” he says with a shrug, “Besides, whatever you want I want. That’s kind of how this works.”
“Sorry if I’ve never owned a sex slave before,” Geralt scoffs out, cringing when the boy looks a bit heartbroken at that. He hadn’t asked for this, to be tied to a witcher of all things. Geralt vows to be a bit nicer if he can help it.
“I just want to make you happy,” the omega mumbles, pouting a bit. Geralt realizes he never actually got his name, which is probably bad form, but to be fair he was shocked at having won a slave in a card game.
“I’m sure you will. This is just...a lot to take in. What should I call you?”
“My name is Jaskier, but the ones who trained me called me Pet if that pleases you more?” Jaskier replied. Geralt thought it over for a moment, decided this was odd enough without adding that element to it.
“So Jaskier, unless you’re an idiot, you’ve noticed I’m a witcher. Did they train you for that?” he asks, already knowing the answer.
“I was trained to be displayed at court, so no,” Jaskier says, frowning. “Do I displease you?”
“Not at all,” Geralt rushes out. “You...you look nice. I just want to know what you’re ready for. Alpha witchers can be a bit much. What did your last owner do with you?”
“My last owner lost me in a card game on my first night with him, so I’m still fresh from training.”
“Fresh as in...virginal?” Geralt asks, his voice cracking over the word. This is too much. No matter how sweet and eager the boy seems, there’s no way he’s ready to take a witcher cock. He’ll have to find a place for him, maybe set him free somewhere nearby.
“Only my ass. I’ve had lots of practice with my hands and my mouth,” Jaskier says with a saucy wink. “Sometimes they even let me get myself off afterwards if I was good enough with my mouth.” Geralt can picture it, the boy taking his tiny omega cock in his own hand and fucking his fist to orgasm. A shiver runs through him, and he has to push another wave a lust away and focus on setting things straight.
“No use in being modest, but witchers - especially alphas - are more well endowed than most. We might not be a good match,” he says tactfully.
“You don’t want me,” Jaskier sobs out, shooting Geralt a doe-eyed look.
“Look. I travel alone normally. I’m not good with people. I have wanted nothing more than to fuck that tight little ass since I saw you in that tavern, but I don’t think it’s possible. I’m not about to hurt you, and you can’t want this,” he waves a hand around at the campsite around them. No reasonable omega would want to live in the fucking woods and trail a witcher around. It’s ridiculous.
“Well that’s great, because I’ve thought of little else than you taking me since I saw you. Now let me show you something and maybe it will change your mind. Because I’m not about to lose two owners in one day,” Jaskier huffs out before stomping over to his bag. He roots around for a moment before pulling out a rectangular box. He kneels down in front of Geralt and presents it to him, grinning up at him.
“What this?” Geralt asks as he opens the lid. His eyes go wide as he takes in the contents; a set of wooden plugs of various sizes. The largest is as thick around as he is. “You’ve taken these?” he asks as his blood rushes south.
“All but the largest. I’ve not been properly fucked, but they wanted to make sure I was able to be. They’re also for if my owner wants to...keep me open for them. I’m made to serve, made to be ready. Now can we please get to the part where you stick your cock in me? I’ve been wet since we left town,” he whines and chews at his lower lip, drawing Geralt’s attention to it. And there’s no reason to say no, no reason to deny himself this pleasure, so he just nods and sets the box aside before moving to his bedroom.
“Strip. Let me see you,” Geralt orders, his voice lower than normal. Jaskier smirks at him and makes a show of undoing his doublet and sliding out of his trousers. He hadn’t lied, Geralt can see the slick on his thighs and it sends a wave of need through him. Geralt tugs his own clothing off and sinks to his knees. “Come here, darling,” he whispers.
Jaskier slinks over to him and drops to his knees, hands reaching out as if he’s afraid to touch. Geralt makes the decision for him, leaning forward and running his own hands down his arms, fingertips reveling in the impossibly soft skin. He smells so good like this, sweet and cloying like honey and clovers. Geralt bends down and nips at his skin, right below the black collar wrapped around his neck. There’s a hoop there, meant to carry his owner’s mark, and Geralt has to bite back a moan when he pictures a silver wolf pendant hanging there.
“Do I please you?” Jaskier asks breathily. Geralt meets his gaze and realizes the boy is unsure of himself. He has no idea how much Geralt is fighting the urge to just sink into him, fuck him and take what’s his. He shivers and runs his hands over Jaskier’s hips before cupping his little omega prick in his hand. Jaskier cries out and goes limp against him, whining, “no one’s ever…” against his chest.
“Fuck. No one’s ever touched you like this?” Geralt asks in shock. Jaskier nods, trembling as Geralt starts to pump his hand, slowly working over his little cock. He’s red and leaking, just a mess of pre-come, and Geralt just wants to worship him. For all his training, the omega is falling apart, just shuddering against Geralt as he fucks into his fist. He’s gorgeous like this, and Geralt can’t fault him his pleasure, just speeds up his hand and watches in awe as Jaskier comes.
“Geralt!” he shouts, nearly sobbing as he spills over Geralt’s hand. He’s shaking, clearly overwhelmed with it all, and Geralt just works him through it, milking every last bit of come that he can. Geralt ducks down and noses at his scent gland, drowning in his strong smell. He’s never smelt an omega this sweet before. It’s like he was made for him.
“Can I fuck you?” Geralt asks, and Jaskier just laughs at him.
“I’m yours to do what you please with, but if you’re asking if I’d like it, yes. I very much would,” Jaskier murmurs against the side of his neck. Geralt can’t wait any longer, just grabs Jaskier by the hips and sets him on his hands and knees. His thighs are glistening with slick and Geralt has to squeeze the base of his cock to keep his mind clear.
But then Jaskier leans forward so he’s resting on his shoulders and reaches back, grabbing his cheeks and parting them. He’s fucking <i>presenting</i> like a bitch in heat and it’s too much. His hole is pink and dripping slick, and Geralt growls and is lining up and sinking into him before he can think about it. Jaskier whimpers and it goes straight to his dick, throbbing as he slides deeper.
“Fuck, you’re so gods damned tight,” Geralt growls as he gives the omega a moment to get used to the feeling.
“I’m so full,” Jaskier shudders, struggling to get back up on his hands. He sighs and rocks back, sucking Geralt even deeper into his wet heat. “Didn’t know it would be like this,” he pants out.
“Didn’t know you’d be perfect. Like you’re made to take my cock,” Geralt says quickly. He pulls back and slams his hip home, loving the way the smaller man whimpers and clenches around him. He’s not going to last long, hasn’t fucked an omega this tight in years. Every thrust of his hips is sweet agony.
He knows in the back of his mind that he should be going easy on him because it’s his first time, but he just can’t help it. Jaskier is gushing slick now, the sounds of their joining echoing around them. His hips move on their own, finding a ruthless rhythm as he plows into Jaskier. The omega - his omega - is taking it so well, a chorus of breathy gasps and moans flowing from his mouth as Geralt fucks him.
“Please, oh please,” Jaskier whines. “Am I good? Can I come when you do? Am I good for you?” he’s babbling mindlessly, begging for a release that Geralt won’t deny him. He’s too sweet, too perfect, his hole too hot and tight around him. For a split second Geralt wishes he could breed him, see his belly round and full with pups, and the thought makes him move faster.
His knot is growing, catching on Jaskier’s abused rim with every slam of his hips. He leans down, bracketing Jaskier’s body with his own, rutting into him like a man possessed. There’s a fire burning in his gut and he starts to lose his rhythm, hips stuttering as he chases his release. He thrusts once, twice more before his knot takes hold and he falls over the edge, emptying his seed inside Jaskier’s sweet little body.
“Come for me,” he hisses.
Jaskier sobs out his name and the scent of his release fills the air. He gets even tighter, body gripping Geralt’s knot so fucking tight that his eyes roll back and he can’t do anything but grind into him, fucking him with his knot. It’s rough and sloppy and everything Geralt’s ever wanted. He scrapes his teeth over Jaskier’s scent gland, a promise of what’s to come, and shoots burst after burst of come into him.
They collapse to the bedroll and Geralt rolls them to their sides. Jaskier is shaking, whining deep in his chest as he reaches back and clings to Geralt. “I’ve got you,” Geralt says, voice hushed and rough. He runs a hand over Jaskier’s belly, pleased to find it bulging just a little. He wonders how many rounds it would take to make him ache with it.
“Nothing prepared me for this...I didn’t know it would be so good,” Jaskier whispers. Geralt reaches down and takes him in hand again, tugging him into another orgasm just to feel his hole tighten around him again. He bites Jaskier’s shoulder as another rush of seed flows into him. He’s never liked being locked to another, stuck with them for far too long, but he feels like this won’t be long enough. He wonders if the boy has another round in him tonight; how many times he can make them both come before morning light.
“I think we’ll like travelling together,” Geralt promises him. Jaskier just shudders and presses back against him in agreement.

My Old Sonic Headcanons
I had shit tons of Sonic headcanons that I added to some page on my now abandoned technical main blog, you can read them all here if you want but I’m just gonna paste them here and provide commentary because I think that would be fun to do and that post I reblogged about blog themes or whatever reminded me of it. All of these are fuckin years old btw, just gonna do commentary in brackets.
- Sonic has a house hidden in Christmas island, nobody knows about it, and he himself only visits it to store junk from his adventures (This headcanon is completely mine and I submitted it to @hedgecanons, a now defunct Sonic headcanon blog I really liked. It was also one of their last posts so I feel pog about that one. I still like this headcanon a lot actually, just because it ties Christmas Island into his character again and provides an excuse for Sonic to not keep all his shit around, like Chip’s bracelet and stuff)
- Vector wrote the Chaotix theme song (Also mine, I just think this is a cute idea)
- The Riders games take place after Chronicles, in the time period where Sonic and friends were in the Twilight Cage, Eggman conquered the world. Sonic and friends tackled his authority, but couldn’t change the world from it’s futuristic state (Basically used to justify why Riders has such a futuristic aesthetic since Chronicles’ cliffhanger ending has one too. Now I just ignore Chronicles because it’s non canon and I just don’t even worry about when and how the Riders games take place)
- There are 35 unexplained Chaos Emeralds across the classic games. These “Pseudo-Emeralds” were created by 5 separate Echidna clans in an attempt to rival the real Chaos emeralds. This is the technology that Tails uses in Sonic Adventure 2 with his fake emerald (I’m pretty sure there’s actually a fuller post on @green-hell-zone somewhere that explains this in greater depth? But the idea was basically that like, if you take every Classic Sonic game that doesn’t have 7 Chaos Emeralds, and you treat it as though all of those Chaos Emeralds are completely unique and non-recurring, then you’d have 35 Chaos Emeralds. So we can just pretend that 5 echidna clans made a full set of 7 each and that’s how we got to that 35. Iirc the 35 are: 16 Chaos Emeralds in Spinball, 8 Chaos Emeralds in Fighers, 6 Chaos Emeralds in Sonic 1, and I believe the remaining 5 come from Sonic Blast? Or one of the Gamegear games anyway. I don’t really subscribe to this anymore because I’m less inclined to wanting my fictional universes to be mechanically consistent and have meaningful lore or whatever, but I still think this is a neat way to justify the numbers being so fucky)
- SEGA exists in the Sonic Universe. All they do is make pachinko machines (This is sorta cute so I still like it, that being said I’m not sure if this is mine or I stole it from someone else)
- Big is incredibly musically talented. He can easily pick up and play almost any instrument flawlessly (I think I was just into the idea of Big being weirdly gifted at everything - he was able to fly one of the Tornado variants without any experience after all)
- Knuckles has a Knuckles chao that guards the Master Emerald when he isn’t there. The chao is incredibly strong, and she’s got a few buddies (none of which are other character chao) to help her fend off Eggman and the like. Knuckles named her “Tikal” (The implication that a single Chao could fight off Eggman is a bit odd, but otherwise I actually like this one - it’s cute and has nice sentiment to it and serves as an explanation for why Knuckles isn’t constantly chained to the Master Emerald, this one also might be stolen but I’m pretty sure it isn’t)
- The prototype design for Blaze is her equivalent to Sonic’s dark form (Prototype in question is this old design, and this is another one I maybe stole, but ngl I’d rather I stole this since I think this one is cringe as fuck and I hate Dark Sonic and don’t think Blaze needs an equivalent, at the same time though headcanons that incorporate prototypes and shit are pretty neat imo so maybe I should be more proud of this)
- Cream and Cheese often play a “prank” where one of them goes missing. They do this so Vanilla will get the Chaotix over, and they often stay and talk for a while. Cheese isn’t too fond of Charmy though (I think this is basically a shipping thing? Cause Vector’s into Vanilla. But I don’t really care about this one at all, like I enjoy Vector a lot and he deserves a shot at his milf goddess but this one’s still sorta boring)
- Sonic Pocket Adventure is the final story in the classic era, and the first in the modern era (I think I did steal this but also I think wherever I stole this from is where I learned Sonic Pocket Adventure existed so props for that I guess, also I think this headcanon is from when I was obsessed with the idea of a master timeline or whatever so there has to be a bridge between classic and modern, so)
- Sonic is multilingual (All the dude ever does is travel, why not?)
- Shadow speaks literally every language, verbal and sign (Shadow is the Ultimate Life Form designed to help humanity so I feel like why not program him with omnilingal abilities?)
- If Silver decided to live in the present day, he’d want to learn everything he could about the world he never had growing up, and would likely become a botanist to study all the plants he never had in his time (Still cute but why be a botanist when he can run a cute flower shop with his own home-grown garden instead? This is maybe stolen)
- At the end of Adventure 2, Shadow (without his inhibitor rings) flew near the moon and used Chaos Control to gather all the space debris and “fix” the moon. Dust settled over time too, which gave it it’s colour (This one is mine I think, basically just wanted a better reason that the moon is normal than “it’s facing the other way”. Also helps justify Shadow falling after the battle when Sonic didn’t - fully aware that the actual reason is because Sonic is acclimated to his Super form and Shadow isn’t but still)
- If the government didn’t shut down Project Shadow, Gerald would not have found a way to cure Maria of her disease, but rather find a sort of medicine that would seriously help her and prevent her death. She would still suffer from the disease, but would spend her life pursuing a career in medicine and later discovering a cure for it, and many other diseases (I don’t even get the point of this one? The idea of Maria becoming a doctor is cute but do we need all this extra shit?)
- Little Planet and the Lost Hex are actually moons of Sonic’s homeworld (Definitely remember stealing this but I really like this one still, adds to the alien feel of the planet and justifies said planet’s additional satellites)
- Boom Sonic’s neckerchief was a gift from his mother shortly before she passed away (Wow this is just edgy and sad for no reason, I think I stole it too. Btw I say “I stole it” but I think literally everything I stole was just from hedgecanons anyway so it’s not like the original posts were hard to find)
- Sonic 4 is a dream Sonic has at the end of Lost World, reminiscing about the “good old days” (Also stolen, the actual supposed canon of Sonic 4 is already a mess especially now with Mania existing, so it being a dream is way easier, Lost World specifically since Sonic goes to nap in the last cutscene or whenever)
- While most see Big as somewhat of a goofball, Sonic highly respects Big and his abilities, mostly due to his assistance in the Chaos 6 fight (Maybe stolen? I feel like Sonic just respects most people inherently though so this is probably a bit redundant, but I guess Big helping against Chaos 6 would further Sonic’s opinions of the dude. Justice for Big is probably the main reason I liked this headcanon though)
- As Tails grows older, he learns to use his tails as additional limbs, often multitasking in the workshop with them (Probably stolen but this is a reasonable extension of canon to begin with given he can grip toothpicks with his tails in Lost World)
- Knuckles isn’t the last echidna, but the species is highly endangered (Fairly whatever idea, probably just comes from the assumption that no way Chaos wiped out every Echidna and that the Knuckles clan probably didn’t totally genocide every other clan they warred with)
- After joining GUN, Shadow reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in just under a year (Stolen for sure, also why would I care about this enough to have it on my headcanons page, also funnily enough Shadow got retconned out of ever being a part of GUN recently, which I actually think is really dumb and just let him be part of it, but still)
- Blaze can’t cook, like, at all (Think I mistook Sonic Channel artwork for fanart and decided to headcanon this because of that, of course that means this is actually canon)
- In every single continuity, Sonic is a chilli dog connoisseur (I mean this is basically canon anyway, right?)
- Rouge was an incredibly skilled jewel thief until GUN caught her. They offered her a bargain: she could stay out of prison by becoming a spy for them. Since she knew how high security GUN prisons were, she decided to stay. She still wonders what it would be like if she could pull off one more heist, and she would have, were it not for Shadow (This is absolutely stolen and I can’t even bring myself to care about this one - also surely Rouge would take said high security as a challenge?)
- The Metal Sonic from CD and Heroes is the original Metal Sonic, every one after was a fake by Eggman. Metal destroyed his blueprints at one point however, which is why we haven’t seen a lot of Metal clones recently (A fake by Eggman as though he didn’t make them in the exact same way? This one’s pretty dumb)
- E-123 Omega is Eggman’s second strongest robot, losing to Metal Sonic (This is probably just canon anyway, right? Omega’s pretty tough)
- Sonic CD takes place a few weeks after Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Tails decided to work on improving the tornado, and Sonic decided to go adventure for a while. This is further supported if you consider Silver Sonic and Mecha Sonic as prototypes to Metal Sonic (I actually think I came up with this before Mania was even announced lol. Honestly Silver and Mecha as prototypes could be a standalone headcanon. But tbh I still stand by CD taking place after 3&K as being a better timeline just because of the Silver and Mecha as prototypes thing, in my mind it feels weird for Eggman to use Metal Sonic, then Silver Sonic, then Mecha Sonic, but then just return to Metal Sonic again)
- Sonic’s SOAP shoes were designed specifically for grinding, and he used them in that game as a sort of “training wheel”. After mastering the technique by the end of the game, he shelved the shoes, seeing no other use for them (Stolen but fair enough honestly, plus ties into the house headcanon - Sonic shelved the SOAP shoes at the Christmas Island house)
- Shadow and Tails may not speak often, but Shadow occasionally drops by Tails’ workshop to share blueprints of machines that were used aboard the ARK, as he doesn’t want them to go to waste. He doesn’t want to show them to Eggman due to his evil nature, and he doesn’t trust GUN with them either. Tails is the next best thing (Wow real positive headcanon, Tails as “the next best thing”. Very stolen this one is, but tbh I still sorta like it because Shadow and Tails interactions are pretty rare)
- Eggman felt betrayed by his grandfather due to his legitimate attempts to destroy the world, and as such, wanted to disown himself from the Robotnik family. He took on the nickname Sonic gave him, “Eggman” (I’m pretty sure the Robotnik name is canon to JP Sonic lore now such that Ivo Robotnik is the real name with Eggman being the nickname, so I think this headcanon basically exists just so we can have a better reason for Eggman to stick with the name change? But this contradicts canon since he calls himself Eggman in SA2 even before learning Gerald’s true intentions, ergo it sucks. Moreover SA2′s Eggman is pretty shit imo and it’s weird to me that he comes across as genuninely uspet about Gerald being evil or whatever - if they had written it as Eggman thinking “why would he destroy the planet with me on it?” I’d be okay with it but as it stands Eggman shouldn’t be bothered about Gerald wanting to destroy the world, ergo why would he disown the Robotnik name?)
- Silver and Mighty would quickly become best friends if they were to meet (I don’t really have any thoughts on this one, it’s sorta just cute and a new character interaction so, whatever)
- Bean the Dynamite is literally fearless (I think I had just seen his appearance in Archie and decided that this makes sense, and tbf it does)
- The Super Emeralds are directly tied to the altar found in Hidden Palace zone, as well as the Master Emerald. As such, if one were to repair the altar, they could turn the Chaos Emeralds into Super Emeralds (Might be stolen? Definitely just exists as a headcanon for that master lore thing so I could have a reason the Super Emeralds don’t exist, but then Mania came along so...)
- Vanilla owns a Chao Garden. The first Chao in this garden was Cheese, whom Vanilla gave to Cream (Yeah this is nice actually, might be mine too)
- Following the events of Sonic CD, Metal (who survived) found the robotic remains of Silver Sonic and Mecha Sonic. He integrated these parts into himself, and thus became Neo Metal Sonic (Hey it’s more reason than we actually get for how this happened, might be stolen but I still like this one somewhat)
- The yellow Shadow Android was Eggman’s final attempt at creating a Shadow Android. It worked fantastically, but its advanced AI chip combined with its memories made it realise Eggman wasn’t the guy to work for. He opted to reside on the ARK where he serves as its guardian, to the knowledge of the real Shadow. He took on a name based on the prototype files for Project Shadow: Terios (This is extremely stolen - no way I’d come up with this alone. The yellow Shadow Android is a multiplayer exclusive playable character in Shadow the Hedgehog by the way. I like Terios as this thing’s name for the same reason I liked that Blaze prototype design headcanon thing, incorporates development history stuff in a cute way, but tbh this is otherwise kind of a needlessly complicated mess of a headcanon, really it’s better as the synopsis for a fanfic than as a headcanon)
- Bark, Bean and Fang somehow got sucked into the Sol dimension, where they work as bounty hunters (This one’s alright actually because it explains they absence and gives the pretty lacking Sol Dimension a larger cast to work with, but otherwise I don’t care for it and just want these dudes back in the games or comics or anything)
- Mecha Sonic wasn’t completely destroyed in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Realising his extensive combat knowledge however, Eggman put him in charge of Badnik production, which is why the Egg pawns and other enemies are so variable (I stole this, why the fuck did I think this was good? “Extensive combat knowledge” what because he pilots two old Eggman vehicles and then on foot he’s Silver Sonic but again and also gets a super form? That last part might be fairly convincing actually. But even then why Badnik production? I hate this one)
- Justin Beaver and Dave the Intern are related (Stolen, I’ve never really cared about Boom so)
- One day Silver will secure a good future, and will grow up to be somewhat of a pacifist because of it. Despite this, the efforts he went through and the foes he faced have resulted in him becoming the strongest being in the Sonic universe (How would Silver of all characters, who’s only ever lived a life that necessitates fighting, ever be a pacifist? Weird. I still sorta like the idea of him being the strongest though because like, he seems like he should be the most powerful on paper, he’s just not in enough things to really have any feats)
- Boom Knuckles is a master chef (This might be mine, I think this comes from that same train of thought that thinks that Big being randomly proficient at stuff is funny, so hey let’s give Boom Knuckles something like that too so people reading this headcanon page don’t think I’m biased, that’s probably what I was thinking)
- Sonic isn’t “scared” of water, he just dislikes being in deep water, and couldn’t swim, until Colours anyway. He still hates being in deep water, even if he can swim (Honestly I think this just exists to gary stu Sonic and make him even better, but then he never seems to fear water in gameplay so maybe this isn’t wrong?)
- Vector always follows hunches in missions, and they’ve never been wrong so far. Charmy always ends up accusing someone with little evidence, and has also never been wrong (I think I just liked the idea of the Chaotix being this sitcom-esque detective bunch that can say random nonsense and have it work out correctly every time, so I guess this is fine)
- When Gerald was creating Shadow, he based him off of the mural in Hidden Palace zone, Shadow changed colours when the Black Arms DNA was integrated into him. This same mural also made Gerald suspicious of his grandson, Ivo, which is why he he never mentions him. Ivo never knew this (Shadow being based off of Hidden Palace mural is pretty canon iirc, the rest I stole, anyway I’m not really into this because said mural would be very up to interpretation in-universe so it seems weird to me that Gerald would read into it as something that condems Eggman)
- Tails created Omochao, and he highly regrets it (This is pretty funny tbf, I think it’s mine?)
- Cream has a childish crush on Tails (I think I just saw cute fanart of these two and decided this was cute enough to be a headcanon tbh, less into it now because I don’t care for Sonic ships, like I never really did but I think back then I was more involved with the fandom so felt compelled to act a bit more interested in shipping)
- The spiked knuckles on Knuckles is actually a genetic mutation. This is special in the way that every single male echidna in the Knuckles clan had this mutation (Definitely stole this but I think it’s canon anyway so whatevs, like it’s not explicitly a mutation in canon but I think every male echidna model in Adventure has the spiked knuckles so this is good enough)
- Tails often takes apart gadgets he might find lying around, and then reassembles them. They often end up far superior to how they were prior, much to the surprise of the gadget’s owners (Stolen, I guess this is cute)
- Sonic’s world was created by a being known as Gaia. Gaia created the Chaos Emeralds and all life and then observed the world from there. After witnessing the destructive power of the Chaos Emeralds, Gaia created the Master Emerald to balance them, and the Master Emerald itself had infinite energy. This forced Gaia into two beings, Light Gaia and Dark Gaia. Light Gaia assigned the Chao to be the guardians of the Chaos Emerald and the Master Emerald. One of the chao, a neutral Chaos chao, was mutated by Dark Gaia into the being we know as Chaos (As crazy as this sounds, I’m pretty sure this one actually is completely mine. Why did I want a Sonic universe creation story? I have no idea. Chaos being a mutated chao is canon though iirc)
- Sticks saved (Boom) Sonic’s life once, which is how they came to be friends (Might be stolen but why do I put Boom Sonic through so much torture)
- Every living being in Sonic’s world has “Chaos Energy” inside of them (This is another “I want this world to have developed mechanics” headcanon, I think it’s pretty whatever but I’m not not for it)
- Hedgehogs are endangered in Sonic’s world, even more so than echidnas (So I mean tbf, we’ve seen more total echidnas in game canon than Hedgehogs - the former comprising the entire Knuckles clan as well as whatever the group from Chronicles were called if you want to count them - whereas hedgehogs is just Sonic, Amy, Shadow who’s a bio-engineered life form, and Silver who’s from 200 years in the future. But at the same time we have word of god for Knuckles being the last echidna and word of god that Silver’s not descended from any characters we know, ergo other hedgehogs exist. Really this might just be another “let’s gary stu Sonic” thing by making him part of the most endangered species)
- Big is an orphan (Why did I want this for the poor bastard, that seems a bit mean spirited. Maybe you could argue “oh but he grew up in the jungle with his only friend being a frog” though so I suppose that’s a fair argument, but then like no Sonic characters have on screen parents except Cream so why not just have them all be orphans? See that’s dumb)
- Lah, the ghost girl from Night of the Werehog, was a Spagonian photographer obsessed with all things horror. She died when she was legitimately attacked by a lycanthrope. She doesn’t have a problem with this fact (Absolutely stole “Spagonian photographer” but the rest is maybe original? Lah’s really cute though and I like her so if she’s a monster fucker then that’s based)
- Rouge is an Ultimate Mom Friend™ (WOW you can tell how old these are from this alone, huh?)
- Doctor Eggman and Sonic do indeed share the same birthday. Eggman sets up a party for himself and has his robots sing for him, but he never feels… content. At the end of the day however, Sonic always shows up with a cake, eager to see how his old nemesis is doing. Eggman started to really like this, and although he’d never show it, he sometimes worries that Sonic might not show up (Inspired by a fancomic or something, but seems kinda pointless, and I don’t know if I’m okay with game Sonic being so outright genuinely friendly to Eggman and likewise him being reciprocative of it)
- SegaSonic the Hedgehog is chronologically the first game in the timeline. Sonic was kidnapped due to his unnatural speed, Mighty was kidnapped due to his unnatural strength, and Ray was kidnapped for trying to defend Mighty. This also makes Mighty and Ray Sonic’s oldest friends (Think this was just me trying to wank off Mighty by making him Sonic’s oldest friend tbh, don’t really care about this one)
- (Follow up to previous headcanon) Following the events of SegaSonic the Hedgehog, Mighty and Ray were separated. They continued looking for each other for months, and around this time, Mighty joined the Chaotix, in hopes of finding Ray. He eventually did, and they’ve been travelling the world ever since (God all of these were from before Mania Plus got announced even, wow. Why did they get separated? Who knows. But hey I like the idea of them travelling together and I guess I wanted a solid excuse to have to have Mighty be in Knuckles’ Chaotix so that’s what that was about, lame headcanon though tbh)
- (Yet again, a follow up to the previous headcanons) Mighty never informed the Chaotix of his departure with Ray, he wanted to of course, but it escaped his mind in his happiness. Vector put up the missing posters of them in City Escape, hoping to find out what happened (Imagine the complete idiot ball moment that is MIghty never telling the Chaotix he found Ray? This one’s stupid as hell, I think I just liked the idea of Vector putting up those missing posters)
- (Post SGW Archie) Both Cassia and Clove have developed anxiety. Clove due to the condition of her sister, and Cassia due to worrying that her sister is stressing too much and overworking herself (This one is from a time when I definitely didn’t know enough about anxiety to where I should have had headcanons like this tbh, so honestly this one’s sorta just uncomfortable to read)
- Fleetway Sonic sounds literally the exact same as famous British actor Simon Pegg (Think he was just on my mind at the time so this seemed funny)
- In the event that Shadow loses his inhibitor rings, he can call them back at any moment, it doesn’t require any energy to do so (Maybe stolen? Anyway this one doesn’t really do anything for me, just sort of an excuse to have Shadow be able to drop his inhibitor rings and then go fuckin blast shit without having to worry, but does that really need to be its own headcanon?)
- The rings on Silver’s gloves work like channelling rings. They don’t increase or decrease the power of his psychokinesis, but without them, things just get picked up and dropped without Silver’s control (Absolutely stolen, I don’t know what about this I found appealing enough to steal honestly, it’s just sorta boring and would make for a cute fanart piece but nothing more)
- Sonic and Shadow frequently leave presents at people’s doors on Christmas Eve, knocking on the doors and running away afterwards. Neither of them know that the other does it (Fancomic one maybe? I don’t remember for most of these but this one especially. Anyway I hate brooding edgy I hate everything bastard Shadow from recent media but I still think this seems like a bit much for him so I’m not super into it. On Sonic’s end I guess it’s fine, but idk it almost seems excessively altruistic and I’m not really sure if Sonic is this nice)
- Blaze is an incredible ballet dancer, but doesn’t think so herself (Honestly? I’ve got absolutely nothing for this one, I don’t know if it’s mine or not and I don’t know why I cared either way)
- Nack the Weasel chose “Fang the Sniper” as his alias in an effort to seem more intimidating. Unfortunately for him, his real name was very quickly exposed, so he just stuck with that instead (I think this one might actually be mine, so that’s cool. Honestly down with this though, it’s funny and any characterisation for a character as minor as Fang is appreciated in my mind)
- Blaze has some form of social anxiety (Again with Cassia and Clove thing, I probably shouldn’t have been writing these ones)
- Big has never experienced physical pain (This is just a “haha funny Big the Cat meme” headcanon, I kinda hate it now, but then I think it’s based off of Big doing those bellyflops in Heroes and being unaffected, so at least canon somewhat supports it)
- Blaze loves tea (I think this is again from a Sonic Channel wallpaper image? I don’t know. She had tea in IDW at one point though so this is almost canon now, imagine that)
- Chip has no sense of taste, everything is just inexplicably delicious to him (I think this isn’t canon because you can feed him loads of different foods in 360/PS3 Unleashed and I don’t imagine he likes every single one of them)
- Amy is the only person capable of lifting the Piko Piko Hammer (Funny Mjolnir thing but Fighers and Advance 3 plus maybe others contradict this)
- Shadow loves reading newspapers (Maybe stolen? Boomer Shadow isn’t even that funny)
- Fleetway Knuckles has an incredibly thick Scottish accent (Why did I think this was even funny or entertaining in any way? I guess it’s giving my own country some Sonic rep which isn’t bad but like, idk. Maybe I just decided that the Anti Knuckles from Archie that appears in like one issue should be paid tribute to by having Fleetway Knuckles borrow his accent, even though Fleetway Knuckles came first I’m pretty sure)
- The planet Earth in Sonic Unleashed is the canonical planet that Sonic and friends live on. There are also several islands on the planet that were unseen in Unleashed, such as Christmas, Westside, South and Angel Island (Fuck the two worlds thing, this is still what I want my Sonic world to be)
- Mighty and Ray have like a jillion selfies around the world together (Sorta just cute but I think I’m more into them travelling so minimally now that they don’t even have phones)
- Mighty and Ray both have their post reboot Archie designs as their modern designs in universe (I’m completely down with this, I want them to be in the modern games too)
- Blaze and Silver both catch colds really easily (I suppose Silver comes from a future where colds wouldn’t be common so he’d be even less resistant to them than the average person, and I guess for Blaze I just like the idea of the pyromancer getting colds. Sure, this headcanon’s fine actually)
- Those little Sonic Channel Comics for the 25th anniversary? All of those happened canonically (Hard agree, these were great)
- Vanilla worked in a nursery at some point (God was the Chao Garden thing not enough? Why couldn’t I come up with more interesting characterisation for Vanilla than just “motherly figure”)
- The GUN Commander in Shadow the Hedgehog is indeed called Abraham Tower (This isn’t really a headcanon, it’s just applying an Archie thing to game canon because there’s nothing contradicting it. Anyway I suppose I’m down with this but I still usually call him “the GUN commander from Shadow” so clearly I don’t care that much)
- Espio is a total weeb (Stolen from any and every Espio fancomic, fanart, just whatever. Don’t care for this one, it’s more trashy and cliche than funny)
- Blaze absolutely hates any type of party (Basically canon? She’s introverted so I don’t imagine she’d be into parties)
- By contrast, Silver loves parties (How come those SegaSonic headcanons had a “following on from the last headcanon” thing but these don’t? Anyway I’m meh on this, Silver doesn’t seem that great at interacting with people either tbh)
- Silver is just very extroverted, and it tends to annoy Blaze. She always has to transform into Mom Friend™ just to keep him out of trouble (Another Mom Friend™ one, huh? These last 3 could’ve been one headcanon, whatever, they sorta stink anyway)
- Silver and Blaze probably have a crush on each other, but neither has realised the other’s affection (I think Silvaze was just my favourite Sonic ship because I guess they looked like they went best together in mind, of course in reality they don’t actually have very much chemistry in any of the media and just get thrust together anyway because ???)
- Sonic remembered what Caliburn looked like to the exact details, and had a real blacksmith create a replica. The sword is kept in his house from the headcanon mentioned hundreds of headcanons ago (Woah continuity, wild. I'm mixed on this one though, it seems like something Sonic would go to the extra effort of doing maybe, but then would he really be so sentimental when he can just remember Caliburn in his heart? Like in Chip’s case the bracelet was basically given to him so sentimentality there makes sense, but that extra step for a Caliburn replica doesn’t really seem necessary tbh)
- Honey’s role in the main universe is the same as her role in the Archie comics - that being head and founder of Honey Clothing (I mean yeah sure whatever, this one’s fine)
- Ken Penders is Knuckles’ real father (It’s funny because it’s funny, haha! Yeah idk either)
And that’s us.

@a-zira-fell I’ll have you know, this is entirely your fault. You and all your crack blogging!
////
Crowley was still sulking over his latest interaction with Aziraphale. In all honesty, he reasoned, there was no reason to sulk. No reason to be moody. He had gotten exactly what he wanted and he didn’t even have to risk going anywhere near a church or getting a bunch of silly, money-grubbing mortals going to jail either. Aziraphale had given him a thermos, and an alarmingly ugly one at that, full of his Insurance Policy. He had broken the angel down. He had won.
So why did he feel so put out that the angel didn’t take him up on his small attempt at repayment.
You go too fast for me Crowley .
He screwed his eyes shut and shoved his hands deep into his pockets, trying to make himself as small as possible as he rushed through the London streets. He was looking to lose himself, to forget his inconvenient and decidedly un-demonic-like emotions. Hearing the screaming of guitars and smelling the waft of cigarettes, he followed the trail to a dingy little club where someone was doing their damnedest to sound “cool” with their guitar. A quick peek inside revealed a wealth of temptation options - underaged boys out looking to score a drink, girls just itching for an excuse to toss their bra on stage, bartenders looking to slip a few extra bills in their pockets - and he decided he had found his distraction.
He started off slow, tipping his bartender just a little extra when he paid for his pint and making a quiet comment, “they don’t pay you enough here, do they? Pity. The owners surely can afford a few quid, they’d never know it was gone.” The bartender gave him a sly smile and a nod and then Crowley proceeded to watch as, every few customers, a bill or two found their way into his pocket.
Feeling like he’d stretched his wings a bit he moved onto a delightfully shady looking man lurking in the corner. A few minutes conversation revealed that he was a purveyor of most things illegal. On this night in particular, he had a whole new stock of LSD to spread. Crowley helped the man in his entrepreneurial endeavors by pointing out who might be looking to buy. The man was ever so thankful.
It was all too easy.
In a matter of two hours everyone in the club was doing something terribly naughty and he was left alone, bored and still moping.
He curled his lip into a frown before taking a sip of his beer. All this tempting business was getting old. He needed a new hobby. A new distraction.
“Mister Crowley,” an eerily familiar voice called to him.
Turning his head he saw his new mortal henchman. “Mister Shadwell.”
“ Lance Corporal Shadwell,” he replied tetchily.
“If you say so.” Crowley leaned back into the wall behind him, lounging as casually as he could. After all, he did have appearances to maintain. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
“Oh, well.” Shadwell looked a little embarrassed and said in mock confidence, “doing what you’re probably doing. Tryna to get a leg over.”
Crowley smiled at that and eyed him over the rim of his glass. Feeling comfortable in the dim of the club, he strategically let his glasses slip down the bridge of his nose. He let his eyes rove over Shadwell and made sure that the Lance Corporal knew he was looking. “Is that so?”
Shadwell coughed into his fist and slammed back his beer. “A-yep.” He belched loudly, laying his masculinity on thickly.
Closeted bisexual, Crowley immediately gleaned. Disapproves, thinks it ungodly. Pity. He’s rather fetching. Could show a bloke - a demon - a good time. But then the idea took root and he grinned wickedly. The perfect challenge. The perfect distraction.
“So tell me, Lance Corporal ,” he said, letting his smile grow. He leaned a little, putting the man on edge. “What is it that you’re looking to get a leg over?”
Shadwell took a step back and found a table cutting off his retreat. He looked torn between wanting to run for the hills and stay and explore his deepest desires. Rather than answer the question he said, “w-well, I thought that woulda been obvious.”
Crowley put the hand not holding his beer on Shadwell’s shoulder and whispered in his ear, “you mean like one of those lovely, young things? Hmm?” He pointed towards the throngs of young women dancing to the music on stage and watched as Shadwell’s gaze shifted slowly. He drew his attention back by whispering, “a handsome lad like you, I’m sure you can pull all the birds you want.”
Shadwell nodded, “I...I could if I wanted.”
Crowley pouted and pulled his gaze back to him with a finger under the man’s chin. “Surely you want. You said so yourself that you want.”
Eyes glued to Crowley he said, “I dinnae often...succumb. I try not to let their wiles entice me.” Then, as if trying to remember his “official” persona, he added, “never know if they’re going to turn out to be a witch.”
“Ah,” Crowley said in mock understanding. “I see.” Crowley, thoroughly invested in his little game, leaned even closer but didn’t dare let their bodies touch as he deposited his beer on the table behind Shadwell. He saw Shadwell’s throat work in a nervous bob and let a tingle of satisfaction spark inside him.
“Tell me, Lance Corporal ,” he whispered the title tantalizingly against Shadwell’s cheek. “How does one know if one is a witch?”
“Lots of ways. You ask ‘em to recite the lord’s prayer. You dunk ‘em in water, see if they float or sink. You poke ‘em with a pin.”
“And what does that do?” He hovered his lips above Shadwell’s and let his puff of breath huff out over Shadwell’s. “Poking them?”
“It tells you if she feels pain. If she bleeds. If anything...unnatural comes out.”
“Unnatural, you say. Fascinating. Anything else?”
“Well...there is one more thing.”
“Yes?”
“You count the nipples.”
Crowley giggled at that. Silly humans, still believing in “witch’s tits”. He’s confused them with actual nipples. Somebody , humans are gloriously ridiculous, “You don’t say.” Then, wanting to see Shadwell grow even redder, he asked. “What do you do with the nipples?”
“Nnngk! I dinnae know!”
“But you’re the one looking for them,” Crowley insisted. “Surely you do something with them.”
“I-”
“I wonder,” Crowley said, dragging a finger down Shadwell’s sternum stopping his blustery reply in its tracks. “What you would do with a good set of nipples. A nice, natural pair of nipples.”
Shadwell’s jaw dropped giving him the distinct look of a fish out of water. Satisfied with his toying, Crowley retrieved his warming beer and took a small step back. He took a sip and luxuriously licked his lips before giving Shadwell a heated glance. “Let’s say you do succumb . You do give into temptation.”
“Aye?”
“What is it you’d say? How would you woo your target?” Crowley leaned back into the wall putting himself on display, wordlessly telling Shadwell that he was more than willing to be said temptation. He enjoyed watching Shadwell squirm, deciding whether or not he was going to dip his toes into the waters of the other sex or if he was going to chicken out.
Finally, curiosity won out.
Shadwell gathered himself to his full height and bracketed Crowley against the wall with his forearms planted on either side of his head. He leaned in, breath husky, and asked, “how many nipples have ya got, laddie?”
Stifling a giggle, Crowley whispered back, “how many did you want?”
Thinking it was a joke and not at all realizing that, should Crowley choose, he could have a full set of sixteen nipples like a cat, Shadwell laughed. The laughter seemed to make him more confident and he ran a light palm over Crowley’s chest, checking to see if all was in order and replied, “the standard two shall suffice.”
Gotcha , Crowley preened internally. Lust had always been his favorite sin - aside from sloth - and he knew how to wield it perfectly. He turned his head, letting his breath ghost over Shadwell’s neck and send shivers down his spine. A moment of anticipation and bated breath and then he asked, “yours or mine, Lance Corporal ?”
In the end it had been Crowley’s apartment. Which was just fine by him. He was more comfortable that way, more in control. He let Shadwell take the lead, letting him explore his newly accepted sexuality. He felt Shadwell’s hands on his, tugging at his clothes and grasping his muscles, eager to try everything new that Crowley had to offer. He kissed with inexperienced enthusiasm but Crowley could work with that. He steered his kisses into something more controlled and pleasurable before directing them towards the bedroom.
Reaching behind himself, he turned the knob to open the door with one hand while pushing Shadwell away with the other. Grinning, he took a few backwards steps into the room, trailing one hand down the row of buttons of his silk shirt, teasing him. Shadwell stayed in the doorway watching hungrily.
Then, breaking the silence Crowley said, “by your leave, Lance Corporal .” Shadwell needed no further prompting.
The next morning Shadwell woke up in a strange bed with a strange man feeling strange things. He uncurled from around the pillow he had been hugging and sat back against the headboard where Crowley was already leant against. Much like the previous night, Crowley relished his uncomfortableness.
Shadwell coughed into his fist, trying to break the tension. “So…”
“You are under no obligation. This was, as you said so eloquently last night, “just getting a leg over”. You and I both know that while you are curious, you’ve no intention of repeating last night’s experiences.”
Shadwell blinked at him, dumbfounded. “Wha- how could you possibly know that??!”
Wanting their interaction to be over as soon as possible, Crowley grinned and lifted the sheet a bit to reveal a convenient third nipple just under his left nipple that he had freshly conjured.
Shadwell sputtered in disbelief. “No...no no no, I checked! That was nae there last night!”
“Are you sure?” Crowley made a show of looking down and poking it to see if it was real. “Cause I’ve had it an awful long time.”
“Christ. You’re a witch!”
“Fancy a fry up,” Crowley said sarcastically and watched as Shadwell scrambled out of bed, racing for the door.
After he heard the door slam Crowley let himself cackle out loud, enjoying his own private joke. He stretched and groaned, slinking out of bed in search of breakfast. He didn’t need to eat but he always felt a bit peckish after a “night of passion”. Something about the flood of hormones and burst of activity and the whole Making An Effort thing made him crave a good, greasy fry up.
With a flick of his wrist the extra nipple was gone and he had laid the groundwork for Shadwell to conveniently forget their entire encounter. He may have enjoyed playing with him for the night, but he didn’t want to scar him for life.
Besides, you never know when a Witchfinder Army would come in handy.

Devlog #40 - Writing Structure In Detail
We’re currently on a posting break because of our workload regarding THINGS. :I But on a beautiful Friday night like tonight, I (Pectin) didn’t have anything better to do then be on tumblr - so here we are! We wrote something about a back log of posts. This is one of the boxed devlogs we wrote this summer. It’s about writing in Ren’Py. Enjoy! ヾ(○・ω・)ノ
Felix (eZombo):
[The] work I'm doing right now isn't really ready to be put into a devlog just yet, I decided to go into a bit more detail on the writing in //TODO: today in terms of its structure and branching.
But before we get to that, as you might have noticed we weren't able to keep up with the posting schedule of the remaining poll answers. Due to other responsibilities we have to take care of, we ran into a few delays so we'll only be able to post one answer per week. So even if it will take a bit longer now, you'll definitely see them all!
And now back to writing!
If you were already reading our devlogs back in 2017, this might sound familiar but there is a lot I couldn't write about yet back then. Now that the game is out and pretty much complete though, it's finally time for an addition to the second devlog we ever posted!
I already wrote about the overall structure almost two years ago, so I won't repeat all of that now. What's important to know though is that //TODO: today features very little branching on a broader scale. Most of the time there are several ways to get through certain in-game days but all the branches eventually rejoin. With the exception of one day towards the end of the month, every playthrough will go through every in-game day in one way or another, but if there isn't much branching in the overall story path, then how does the story react to player choices?
Quite a while ago before we even started thinking about making //TODO: today, I read a blog post by Nicky Case in which they briefly talk about a concept they call "broadening". I think it's quite an interesting alternative to traditional branching as it tackles the problem of interactive stories growing exponentially due to player choices while still making the choices feel meaningful.
The gist of this idea is to keep a comparably concise path through the story but remember the choices that were made along the way (both important and unimportant). By doing that you can add callbacks to them when it's appropriate and as a result the story essentially feels "broader" than it actually is, even without entirely unique branches.
Of course there are some problems with this as well because you still need to find natural ways to include the callbacks in order to keep the illusion alive. If your story doesn't have branching and you make it too obvious that you are just repeating something from a previous choice (maybe even verbatim), the player will probably become aware that they are experiencing a linear story that tries to trick them into thinking it's not.
And given the premise of //TODO: today where you experience the story of a struggling artist who basically has a month to get their life in order, that would not only fail the player but also the basic concept.
In the end //TODO: today uses a combination of "branching" and "broadening" and especially in the second half, this is used quite extensively.
Because there's no way around it to fully go into detail on this, the following part will be somewhat spoiler-heavy but if you've read this far, I'm assuming you've played the game already.
Essentially, there is one major event that influences pretty much the entirety of the second half: Joyce's departure. More important structurally though is whether or not Joyce returns.
All scenes at Teal's home after March 22nd have two versions depending on whether Joyce is there or not. Other scenes maybe change a few lines but can usually avoid having too drastic changes.
Some days like the Naughty Cat competition have whole variations where Teal either takes part or watches a live stream of it (although it reuses some text here and there, too). The variation where Teal is at home and watches the live stream also has two versions, one with and one without Joyce but for the most part those aren't entirely separate scenes and instead use if-statements to selectively use or skip certain lines.
This gets especially complicated once the romance comes into play and we have a scene like the following one where effectively half of the dialogue is made up of these conditional-statements:
if joyceReturn: if joyceRejected: j "Good morning, [tName]." j "How are you feeling today?" else: j "Good morning, [tName]!" j "How are you feeling on this wonderful Monday?" t "Morning, Joyce." t "I'm fine." if romance == "Joyce" or romance == "Phoenix": t "Actually,{w=0.3} I feel pretty good." if joyceRejected: j "That's good to hear." else: j "That's great to hear!" if romance == "Joyce": j "It's the same for me." j "Today is another day at the bookstore, right?" if romance == "Phoenix": t "Yeah.{w=0.3} And it's one of the last days Phoenix will be there." else: t "Yeah.{w=0.3} There's only two left this month." j "Oh, right. The month is almost over now." if tMoney < 700: t "I hope I'll make enough money..." else: t "At least I made enough money."
Well, and of course there's also a version of this scene without Joyce.
else: t "March is almost over now." t "I only have two more work days this month." if tMoney < 700: t "I hope I'll make enough money..." else: t "At least I managed to make enough money..." if romance == "Phoenix": t "But I still can't believe what happened on Saturday." t "I'm somehow really excited to see [pthem] at the bookstore today!" t "Especially because it's one of the last days we'll be working together..."
This basic technique is used quite often to various extends so sometimes it's just a single line that could change based on previous events, sometimes the difference can be a whole scene (like the customer during the afternoon shift on March 13th who only comes back to return a book if you chose the correct one four days earlier), or like in the above example: a mixture of both.
As you can see, this way of handling the consequences of player choices doesn't entirely cut down on writing variations but just in terms of sheer scope I think it's still easier to handle than writing the same scene twice or more. Of course intertwining the variations with nested if-statements brings some problems of its own because it becomes increasingly difficult to see if the dialogue still flows well in all possible variations.
Ultimately it all comes down to deciding which structure or technique best strikes a balance between being economic and making the story feel interactive. And there's no one true way to do that.
For //TODO: today's overall theme and structure it made sense to tell the story day for day and weave in all the branches and variations within those fixed sections of the plot. Having said that, there are plenty of moments where I strayed from the economic side and wrote some dialogue for cases that are highly unlikely to be seen by many people. Conversely, other moments in the game may be disillusioning if you play it multiple times and realize just how much (or little) changes.
Figuring out what use of branching (or other techniques) is sensible or not for certain situations is a whole other topic so I'll just leave it at that, but I hope this insight into //TODO: today's script was interesting!

Ten Questions Tag
I got tagged in the same game thrice so while it’s a 10 Questions tag, I have thirty to do haha. Thanks for the tag @booksandsass , @nemothepenguin and @jmichines!
Do you remember your first writing project? What was it?
I do! The first thing I wrote was a 38K novella when I was six. It was about two girls in their young teens (I think one was 13 and one was 14, I can’t remember) who always ended up going to this ice cream shop. Their teacher was their best friend and I named one character after part of my name backwards. It’s cringy, but I’m still proud to say I completed such a feat at a young age.
What do you think is the hardest part of writing?
Finding where to explain things, such as appearance, location, lore etc. I know all of it, I just find it hard to say all I need to without it being an info dump haha
If you could give your younger self some writing advice, what would it be?
STOP GOING ON DAMN HIATUSES GIRL
What kind of research do you do for your WIP?
I do a little research on physics (such as how lifts work) and injuries but most of it is how things look steampunk style since there’s a slight hint at that in my novel.
How many hours a week do you write?
It depends on how much university work I have to do (I study online), whether I’m travelling and how much energy I have. Probably 10 hours tops a week but sometimes I’ll do nothing.
How long do you wait before you begin editing your first draft?
Six weeks, unless I know I’ve made a major booboo niggling in my head. Then I’ll resolve that and leave the rest.
What are your personal ethics when it comes to writing?
I’m not 100% sure I’ve gotten this question right but my stories are quite dark, although not explicitly so. My characters go through a tonne of crap in all honesty, although for the reader, it isn’t as bad.
Do you recycle old ideas or abandon them?
Recycle. I’ve already decided to use the first line of a Fan Fiction I wrote in 2014 later on in the Mastery series.
Which character is your favourite and why?
I tend to shift my favourite character based on what book I’m writing.
In book 1 of the series, it’s Roman. He’s a bit of a mystery to the others and they’re not sure how to react to him, but he’s just a cute little idealist in a world of pessimists.
In book 2, it’s Rylan. Some of his lines are my favourite I’ve written so far.
In book 3, it’s Jonathon. His personality is one of the most animated in the series and his back and current stories are some of the most complex I’ve made. One chapter I’ve written in his POV is one of my favourites too.
What do you love most about your favourite character from your WIP?
Again, I’ll answer with the same characters.
Roman: He’s an absolute sweetheart despite being surrounded by salty assholes and continues his precious ways even when they insult him for them
Rylan: He’s private and little is revealed about him. But he’s intelligent and could easily become a much worse villain if he wanted to. Dangerous boi.
Jonathon: Kind of like Roman, he’s an optimist despite everything that’s happened to him. And boy, does he have an angsty af backstory.
What would you consider success for your current WIP?
The fact I’m still working on it nearly 10 years later
If you were stuck on a deserted island, which one of your characters would you bring with you?
I guess it’d have to be Sebastian. He’s rude quite a lot of the time but really resourceful.
What would your characters’ day jobs be in real life? And if your WIP is set on Earth, which jobs would be most fitting for them and why?
Ooooh I love this question! I do have a lot of characters to answer with though and since this is the sort of thing I love imagining, I’m doing it with a huge bunch of ‘em haha
Alex is into the arts and only joined the Protectionary Guard as he didn’t see his art career going anywhere. So if he could make do with his art, he’d do that.
Sebastian would be in some sort of detective agency. One where he’d be able to kick ass. Then he’d get sacked for inappropriate behaviour and become a Martial Arts instructor or something along those lines.
Miriam would do something in the medical profession, but something less people-based. She’d be the sort to sit in a lab all day studying concoctions.
Aiden would have a normal office job during the day (knowing his family, it’d be he’s the heir to a company) and then volunteer as a cubs/scouts leader in the evenings.
Noah would work in IT, probably programming.
Cyrus builds motorbikes to fit in with his idealisms of escape, so he’d be into a travel-related career, such as travel writing/blogging, doing affiliate marketing and writing e-books to earn an income. Maybe an e-commerce store. While he isn’t the brightest, he’s a hard-worker.
Roman is training to be a lawyer and I can see him doing that in a Earth AU as well.
Phineas would be a librarian or a teacher for older students, probably a university lecturer or something like that, for a social science or language.
Dimitri would be a business owner, one of those really dickish ones.
Luka would probably be in Dimitri’s business, grumbling about his boss every ten seconds saying how he plans to make a rival business when he has enough money.
Rylan lowkey loves fashion and textiles and so I can see him working in a dinky little sewing shop and then selling stuff on Etsy or something along those lines as a side hustle.
Meline would be a professional athlete, probably in tennis since that’s her usual sport.
Jonathon would be the sort to make documentaries out in the wilderness and would take bets on whether he’ll survive doing stuff. He always does, and yet he still has people paying him. Witty prick.
Romulus would drive lorries. They’re similar to, but less interesting, his airships.
Who of your OC’s would break first under high pressure or under psychological manipulation/torture?
It’d be between Miriam and Aiden, depending on how personal the manipulation is. More distant? Aiden. More personal? Miriam.
Would you sacrifice your favourite character if it meant getting published? (As in would you remove them from the book as a condition set by the publisher?)
(I’m doing main instead of favourite okie dokie) Alex would be a nosiree no way whereas I think it’d be easier for me to part with Phoenix and Eirik. I’d still be reluctant though.
What is your go-to scene? (For example, I tend to open my books with the weather forecast to set the atmosphere before going to the characters and actions happening at that time)
A fight with a fairly unimportant antagonist. I always start my POV chapters with a certain style. Miriam’s is questions, Alex’s is dialogue, Phoenix’s is a long drone and Eirik’s is short sentences.
What is your least favourite genre to write in and why?
Contemporary as I get pretty bored. Where’s the death and fighting?
Which author would you like to trade styles with for a single book?
Me, but a good author. If you find out who that is, tell me please.
What was the weirdest thing that inspired a scene/character/story/name/place/etc.?
Miriam’s surname is after my dog as they both have amber eyes (Arnie -> Arnette)
Which POV is your favourite to write in and how do you choose which one to use for a certain WIP?
I prefer writing in first person! If it’s character arc-based then I will use first but if it’s more plot-based I will use third.
What style of writing do you prefer? Simple language, something more poetic, or something else?
I prefer simple but tend to have a philosophical main character so it ends up being a blend once you get to know the character
What’s your pet peeve when it comes to writing - the thing that would make you insta-toss the book?
The main character is a Mary Sue/Gary Stu
What’s your favourite cliché?
If you’re talking about technique, it’ll be rule of three. If you’re talking about plot cliché’s, it’s enemies to lovers/besties.
Which of your OCs would you want to hang out with in real life? Conversely, who would you not touch with a 10-foot pole?
I’d like to hang out with Roman! I’d say we’re similar enough in personality to get along.
Lawrence can LEAVE.
What’s your favourite type of character? (I have a weird thing for anti-heroes and geniuses)
Gonna have to agree with the brackets ;)
Which story do you wish you could have written (can be a novel, movie, game, etc.)
1984 or any good alternate futures. I’m a sucker for this genre so if you have recommendations please tell me.
Which of your OCs just absolutely eludes your comprehension? Like no matter what you do, you just can’t figure them out?
Kristoph.
What are you most proud of when it comes to your writing? Can be a character, a concept/world, even your style of writing.
Being able to come up with a complex plot and keeping track of it without having to write it all down.
Which of your stories do you think would make an awesome movie?
I think Experimentation would be more popular but I’d love to see Schadenfreude as a film!
Lastly (since we all do this), name an OC and your dream casting for them.
You’re wrong, buddy chum pal. I don’t do this.
I don’t watch films or series so know literally no actors bar the really famous ones.
-
To be honest, my creativeness isn’t working at all so for those who I tag, I’m going to let you pick out 10 of your favourites from the questions above. And the three people I’m going to tag are: @westywrites, @ahotpeaceofshit and @thel3tterm!

Happy 32nd Birthday Nobuhiko Okamoto!
Personal Note:
I’ve been preparing for a while because I wanted to make this with a lot more thought. Sorry for the length of this post. I spent quite a bit of time on it, but I didn’t realize it would get so long! He is one of my top favourite voice actors (both English and Japanese) ever. To me, he’s a relatable, awesome, and passionate inspiration. He puts his all into every role he does, and he never gives up no matter who tells him to.
I could probably go on about how much I like many of the roles he’s done, but that would be a whole other essay in itself. I even considered watching Corpse Party (the scaredy cat I am) because I heard he was in it. Yeah, I’m one of those people who gets drawn to anime when I figure out certain studios and voice actors are attached to it. I have watched a few episodes of some really bad anime because I heard he was in it. No regrets! Okay, maybe I have a few... I still haven’t watched them all though! I plan on watching a ton more, and that includes a few bad apples here and there.
Despite all the hurdles and adversity he faces, he overcomes it! He has had so many amazing roles, he sings, he’s good at shogi, and he’s just a good person. I respect him a lot. Honestly, I can’t word stuff too well, but I sincerely hope he continues working, maybe gets married and has kids (since he said he wanted to), and experiences all the happiness he deserves.
Table of Contents:
Top Roles (+ clips)

Facts + Q&As

Top Roles:
I watched to include even the ones that I didn’t watch entirely, so I put together a whole list. It’s generally not too strict in order, but I went from his good to his best. If I wanted to put a few words, I just included them in square brackets. In those, there will also be recommended clips if I feel the need to add any in.
* = ones that I haven’t watched completely (or up to its current point)
Rui Tatsumi* - Starmyu
Ivan Karelin* - Tiger and Bunny
Shin-ah - Akatsuki no Yona
[This character didn’t talk much, so he actually got to play a MOB character as well. I found this character kind of charming though.]
Mitsuo - Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou
[He’s the one who dropped the hot dog. Rest in Pieces. This anime made me laugh, and even though this character barely appeared, he made me laugh every time he did. Recommended clip: “Glasses”]
Gladion* - Pokemon Sun & Moon
[He’s actually the perfect choice to play this edgy boi.]
Yumeji Fujiwara* - Yumekui Merry
[RIP the can]
Makoto Kashino* - Yume-iro Pâtissière
[I just started this one]
Mizuki* - Kamisama Hajimemashite
[I watched six episodes of this one.]
Rei Ogami - Code:Breaker
[This wasn’t a very good anime, it’s a mediocre manga, but I still enjoyed it.]
Nikaidou Harunobu* - 3-Gatsu no Lion
[I watched around 6-8 episodes of this one. This character is a pure round boi, and I like the way Nobu portrayed this character. Recommended Clip.]
Io Otonashi* - Acchi Kocchi
[I watched around 5 episodes of this one. His bishounen game is very strong.]
Takeru Fujiwara* - Prince of Stride
[These anime characters run like how I run from my life responsibilities and problems. His bishounen game is also very strong. The strong and silent type is always popular. Sadly, I’m the quiet and extremely frail and weak type.]
Shouta Kisa* - Sekaiichi Hatsukoi
[According to Tumblr, he has never done an R-rated (18+) BLCD, but he has been in some shounen-ai anime.]
Issac Foster - Satsuriku no Tenshi
[My reaction to this anime. Don’t worry, I’m following this to the end.]
Ryousuke Kominato - Diamond no Ace
Ryou Kurokiba* - Shokugeki no Souma
Age - Sakasama no Patema
[Yeah, that’s his actual name. If you name your child something that stupid, I would personally like to have a word with you. This movie was really nice though.]
Accelerator* - Toaru Majutsu no Index
[I had to include his laugh to this]
Jurai Andou - Inobato (Inou-Battle wa Nichijou-kei no Naka de)
[And jail is just a building you live in! I can’t remember the context of this line.]
Kiyoharu Hyoudou - Welcome to the Ballroom
Yoichi Saotome* - Owari no Seraph
Eiji Niizuma* - Bakuman
[Recommended Clip]
Obi - Akagami no Shirayuki-hime
[When he looks into the mirror and realizes he’s missing his eyebrows.]
Takumi Usui* - Kaichou wa Maid-sama
Yuu Nishinoya* - Haikyuu
[Recommended Clip: ROLLING THUNDER!]
Rin Okumura - Ao no Exorcist
[He’s such a likeable protagonist. Recommended clip: Rin x Shiemi because they’re adorable]
Mikoto Mikoshiba - Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
[This character made me laugh so much. He and Seo are my favourites. I haven’t seen another amazing anime with both Miyuki Sawashiro and Nobu. They’re my two favourites. I hope to see them acting together eventually (even if Mikorin and Seo never really communicated). Thanks to Nobu, we have a voice to this madly embarassed bishounen. Recommended Clips: Mikorin Clips, Mixer Clip]
Katsuki “Kacchan” Bakugou - Boku no Hero Academia
[Bakugou might not always be my cup of tea as a character, but his voice made me like him somewhat anyway whether he’s an asshole or not. There are a few scenes in season three that hit me with mad feels,, but even during season one and two, Nobu aced this role. This role is what shot him up to one of my favourite voice actors. Recommended Clips: Rage moments, Kacchan vs Deku audio segment (scroll down a little for this Tumblr post), Salty Bakugou S1]
Karma Akabane - Assassination Classroom
[While Bakugou is one type of crazy, Karma is another. Honestly, he’s such a sly, cunning, and mischievous character, but that’s what we all like about him, right?]
Trailblazer Arrangement:
youtube
This is my first time transcribing a song and arranging it! I improvised and made up some stuff (mostly guitar solos that just didn’t fit as well logically on piano). I usually don’t like (actually, I kinda hate) transcribing because it’s basically like trying to copy down a book that someone reads aloud (and you can’t look at the text). But it was worth doing this! He’s definitely not my favourite singer, but I’d still listen to him.
I didn't want to go with an original score for this one because I felt like I wanted to improve a lot more as a composer and artist (as if I'm qualified enough to be called those terms). When I make one for him, I want to go all out.
Facts:
I found some other interesting facts online. There are quite a few different sources. I’ll try to list them below all the facts (but I might link them to the actual facts as well. There are a lot, so there’s that.
All [Nat Notes] will be put between square brackets “[these]”.
These are all from THIS POST:
After graduating from secondary school, he entered some voice acting training courses associated with his agency (Pro-Fit) to pursue his dream as a seiyuu.
To be able to pay for his training, he worked at a 7-Eleven and a post office.
His family is very strict and conservative.
He was into video games when he was younger, but his parents were against letting him play video games and ended up limiting him to a one-hour per day time limit [THIS POOR BOI]
[Regarding his gaming] his parents told him, “If you want to play games, you can play shogi.” This ended up being the reason he started playing shogi.
He is a practicing Catholic [ironic since one of his most iconic roles is playing the son of Satan]
He’s a 3rd dan ranked shogi player, and he once aimed to be a professional shogi player.
He has a huge love for sweets. I follow his blog, and a lot of his posts involve sweets.
“His favourite [candy bar] would be Black Thunder chocolate bars (same as Kamiya Hiroshi and Ono Daisuke), and at one point, he always ends up buying Black Thunder by the box, stocking up on it, and eating up to 10 bars in one day, that his agency decided to restrict him into eating just one bar a day.” [let the poor guy eat his chocolate]
He is easily bullied by other seiyuu [check out the original post which has gifs of his mishaps]
“[While recording] …he ran away from the mic, forgetting that he was wearing headphones connected to the mic and ended up messing up the recording room, and the staff had to rearrange everything.”
He’s a big fan of Pokemon [He now plays Gladion in Pokemon Sun & Moon]
These are from “More Nobu Facts”
“As a student, he used to fall asleep on the train and miss his destinations sometimes. He thinks that it’s really comfortable to take a nap there.” [Yeah, you say that until you somehow end up in the middle of nowhere and wonder where you are and why you even exist.]
“He suffers from hay fever in the spring. Said that the symptoms kill him.” [You and me both except mine are year-round and gradually getting worse.]
“He played with Lego bricks when he was a kid.” [If he’s the type of person who left out the bricks and made people experience pain because of it, I will personally leave Lego bricks outside his door. Those things hurt when they’re unexpected.]
“He loves the indoor life.” [don’t we all…]
“He read the Harry Potter series.” [I did too! Not that I remember any of it.]
“His cute, foreign Furby only speaks English. Noburin stated, “English is very hard.”” [HOW DO PEOPLE SLEEP KNOWING THEY OWN ONE OF THOSE? I WOULD BURN IT IF I GOT ONE.]
“In elementary school, the girl he liked gave him chocolate on Valentine’s Day. He said he felt like crying from the shock.” [I haven’t experienced that. Was he happy because it was that girl who gave him chocolate or because he got free chocolate?]
“He was hospitalized before when he was a child due to a bad cold (or maybe the flu).” [Well, that diet sure doesn’t help, and I doubt screaming all the time is good for you. Weirdly, I can’t say anything more than that because I do both too except I scream internally while he does it as his profession.]
He tends to get sick within the first two weeks of October, right before his birthday. [I wish you luck!]
He likes to watch lightning and thinks that it’s cool. [I’M SO SCARED OF THUNDER]
During the summer as a kid, he liked to catch cicadas and dragonflies, and play with water guns. [SAME DUDE]
He was in the badminton club during secondary school.
These are all from his Q&A! [Part 1], [Part 2], [Part 3], [Part 4]:
I’m not going to include quotation marks for this one for the most part. I changed some awkward phrasing. I left out some questions from the original posts as well. Check the sources out!

XD (I usually say something along the lines of, “Is that a caterpillar on your face? It’s so thick and bushy! It looks like you took hair from your head and put it on your eyebrow! Maybe you can’t grow facial hair because all of it goes to those eyebrows.”)]

Favourite season?: Spring. [I like winter because plants are dead (I have extremely bad allergies), snow, Christmas, my birthday, and New Year’s!]

How’s your tolerance to alcohol?: I can’t drink much. [I don’t drink]
What good books do you usually read?: Original works that are adapted into anime. [I don’t read a lot. I’m an illiterate fool.]
What do you buy at convenience stores?: Fresh premium caramel roll cake. [I wish they had those in Canada…]
Favourite place in the country?: Okinawa. [I gotta go there someday!]
What countries do you want to go abroad?: Italy. [He recently said he wants to go to Italy for gelato and to be honest, I relate. Europe has good chocolate and cheese from what I hear.]
What are the challenges to your trip destinations like?: Pickpockets like to snatch! [He better watch out for those vans that say “Free Candy!” They might be meant for kids, but he might just stumble in.]
Are you nervous in public?: Recently it’s been okay; still nervous during events. [I’m always nervous in public. I would like to attend an event by the end of my life though.]
What would you tell your past-self (10 years ago)?: “Don’t give up and eat your dinner properly!” [I tell that to myself now XD If I were to send a message to myself, it would be something along the lines of, “What you feel, what you think, and what you believe is important. Listen to yourself. At the end of the day, you will figure out what to do. Don’t be afraid of being alone, and don’t be afraid to wander. Loosen up.”]
What would you message to your future-self (10 years from now)?: “The you in his twenties is having lots of fun. Are you having fun?” [Message for me ten years from now: PLEASE TELL ME YOU AREN’T AS DEEP INTO VOICE ACTORS AND ANIMATION. I BEG YOU, GET A LIFE.]
If the world was going to perish in 24 hours, what would you do? Gather all my friends and family, and have a BBQ party. [I would just write something in case it resurfaces. I would want to write my thoughts, opinions, and experiences along with the people around me.]
Where do you want to work?: A place where I could grow. [Same!]
What are your thoughts when you look back at 2010? I issued a sex appeal to play [Usui], and worked hard to reach the targets! [From the amount of screaming fangirls, I think you did just fine.]
What is your current aim?: To be more playful and get more out of acting.
Finally, a message to the world: I’ll work hard from now on to make a voice that everyone will not have a hard time to listen to. Thank you for your support! [Thank you Nobu! You inspire a lot of people (including me) everyday!]
Additional Facts! [SOURCES WILL BE LISTED BELOW!]

How 'Ted Lasso' helped me take a look at myself
Heads up there are a few spoilers for Ted Lasso season two in this blog.
The TV show Ted Lasso is an oddity. The concept isn’t something I should be interested in, and on paper it shouldn’t work. I’m not a fan of football in the slightest, and it being based on a series of comedy commercials, history tells us it should have become a series of shallow jokes about a fish out of water. It should have failed with the first season. However, it has become a phenomenon, and rightfully so. In a world divided, confused, and scared for the future comes a show that is willing to wear its heart on its sleeve and be a positive force.
That’s not to say it’s devoid of conflict or that its saccharine in its chirpy happiness. What makes Ted Lasso special is its honesty. Often when that term is used for a TV show, it’s a hard hitting drama about the worst life has to offer. While I appreciate those shows are important, showing a glimpse of how some people are forced to live, I do believe the incessant grimness has been a contributing factor in the global emotional and psychological decline. Oddly contributing to further despair, without providing suggestions for a solution.
I will acknowledge that Ted Lasso is about a football club and people that earn millions of pounds. However, it doesn’t dwell on rich people problems, or diminish the people that aren’t in the same tax bracket. The football and the money are barely a consideration or a factor in the show. Yes, they inform elements and the framing but at its heart its about people from very different backgrounds working together to raise each other up, and every week it raises me up to.
The show has covered a number of topics and themes, and I think there are great articles to be written about the portrayal of women in business, the complexity of relationships, grieving and creating a positive working environment. What I want to focus on is how it has broken down and helped me address my own toxic masculinity.
As I reach 40, I have taken a look back at my life and, like everyone else, there are things I know I could have done better at or dealt with differently. One of those things is my own relationship with my emotions and mental health. I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s and my fictional role models were action stars and superheroes who dealt in actions rather words. Greif was an opportunity for revenge and lashing out. If a wrong was identified in the world it was an opportunity to blow stuff up. There was no room for emotions. John Rambo starts by exploring his PTSD and trauma to then being dropped back into war for entertainment. Not great therapy, and the way to work through those pesky trauma nightmares was to kill more baddies.
In the 90s, during my teen years, I was swamped by Lad Culture. Get drunk and be loud, with a side of obnoxious. It was an extension of the 80s yuppie culture, work hard, play harder. I was pretty good at that. Over the years I became more worldly, and I like to think more balanced. I have had some hard lessons about how to manage and work with people. I have tried to be better and be a positive influence on people I know and work with.
I grew up with prejudices that I have addressed, and I’m embarrassed I ever held them, but somethings are harder to work on than others. My understanding and acceptance of the wider world, and the wonderful array of people that live In it, has always been tempered by how I have perceived myself and what I feel.
I have trouble with my weight and will often work ridiculous hours to get work done. I take on too much and when I get frustrated, I let it build up into anger. Then when things don’t work out, or I have too many plates spinning I get annoyed at myself for not being able to keep everything moving. This then results in the behaviour that contributes to my weight issues. It becomes a cycle. I know this, and have done for years, but to admit it, to let others know that I know this, would be the biggest failure. To admit that I can’t do any more, or that I have hit my limit when I know that others are under pressure as well is, as far as I have seen it, a sign of weakness, and so I carry on. Not wanting people to think less of me. I’m a man and I should be able to shoulder this burden. Just grab another snickers and knuckle down harder. During the pandemic this behaviour has been worse than ever.
But that may all be in the past.
Ted Lasso season two has made me stop and take a step back. Football clubs are often portrayed as hives of competition and alpha males. Ted Lasso has taken a different tact and shown how this team supports each other. In this season three elements have made me take stock.
Jamie Tart dealing with the pressure to succeed from his Father and supporters has been fascinating to watch. The internalisation of the fear of failure and the constant push for you to the be the sole winner of a team game struck home. The moment he punched out his Dad was stunning. A full stop moment. Yes, it was frustration spilling out, but it was not for him, it was for him as part of the team. A moment to say, ‘no more’ and I am part of this team, and they are there for me. The fact the punch was followed by a hug from Roy Kent was perfect. We often work as a team, in life and in work. within in that team we have responsibilities, but we are not responsible for the whole team. Be good at what you are good at and help the others to do the same and positive results are a lot more likely.
Let’s talk about Roy Kent. He should be the worst offender, but they have under-cut this perfectly and created a new modern role model. The curmudgeonly Roy has a life and reputation built on aggression and machismo. However, his arc has led him to become a great example of the ability and need to adapt and try new things, especially as we move from one stage of life to the next. His desire to change, adapt and learn for the people he loves is an inspiration. They are the people we need to be better for the most. I now stop an ask WWRFD: What Would Roy Fucking Do?
The most important is Ted and his anxiety attacks. His relationship with Dr Fieldstone has also made me question some of my own habits and what may have caused them. I’m not going to delve into my life story here (you can wait for the book J), but Ted discussing how the suicide of his father has shaped his approach to life and the emotional impact this has had, when he is forced to have to give up on things, stopped me in my tracks. The question I asked was, who am I trying to impress? What am I getting from the hours given up and why am I doing this? The waking up at 4am with anxiety isn’t a sign I care about my work, it’s a sign my work is damaging me. This isn’t something that I am going to address overnight, but these questions have started a chain reaction that has allowed me to stop and say, ‘Yes, I am struggling, and I need to take a breath’. What comes next I still need to figure out, but I know that I do need to figure it out.
Everyone behind Ted Lasso should be proud. Not only are they creating a funny show with heart, but they are also creating role models that show young (and some not so young) men, that being a man isn’t about being stoic, bearing the burden and keeping going. It’s not macho to just keep going and wash down the negativity. Being a man is about being a part of the world, being who you are, but knowing that we can all be better and being willing to explore ways of achieving that. It doesn’t mean the world and life will be easier, but it does mean that we don’t have to do it alone.
I’m heading into middle age, and I am scared of it. I am scared I won’t be able to keep up. I am scared that things are getting on top of me. I am scared that I won’t be relevant anymore. Ted Lasso came at the right time and has helped put some things in perspective for me. It’s fine to be sacred of these things, the world can be fucking scary, but its not helpful to keep those fears to myself. WWRFD? he’d begrudgingly talk to Keely, and they would work it out together, whether it’s easy or hard.
I’m about to be 40 and its time to make some changes.

Today I'll be showing you how to fly in Mafia 3 using this Mafia 3 mod for the PC called Noclip. Noclip allows.
The world isn't so large that it needs fast travel. I understand in games like skyrim where the world is large and horse is fastest way of travel, but in mafia where the fastest cars can go over 100 mph, it's just not needed. Also, it's not like you have to slow down near the cops, just don't hit anyone near cops.

The greatest problem with these open up world games is definitely that it consists of a great deal of generating back again and on, but you can say the same with games like GTA or Just Trigger. The only AI issues I've seen, is arbitrary people strolling out on the road in front of you, just to cease in the middle of the street, rather of shifting apart from your vehicle. Fast Travel In Mafia 3 Release
This is a fairly lazy critique imo. Not really just in the literal sense.I can know that sometimes people really have got a really busy life-style and they want to reduce down on period consuming duties in-game, and just jump between the great bits. But for a game like this l can't find why I would want to do that. The cars (and the music) are usually outstanding. New Bordeaux is usually fun to discover. Every region has a different feel.
And most importantly, it doesn't take you hours to generate from one end to the othér,merely 5 to 10 minutes. Unless you really feel appreciated to abide by every traffic regulation or you're scared to phase on the gasoline and float into the sides. I wear't thoughts the lack of fast Travel either, but I think they do a shitty thing with those various goals.

I put on't get why everyone of those vehicles and Moonshine vehicles wants to become in the Bayou. I get why the vessels are presently there, apparent, but they could've spread those vehicles and vehicles even more around the chart. How does this relatie?
Well, sometimes when trying to maximize a racket profits I just think like fuck, ain'capital t gonna drive all the way to the base of the map for a ridiculous truck transport to generate more kickback so I can purchase more weaponry. Those several times I do believe about fast Vacation, not hoping it, but it could'vé produced inspired me even more.
Each design has special traits that create generating it a unique encounter. This indicates not really all vehicles are fit for all reasons, therefore you'll want to change cars usually, based on the landscape and the job at hands. In this guide, we're heading to show you the greatest car locations in Mafia 3.Mafia 3 Best CarStealing vehicles will be one of the fundamental activities in the sport. You'll do it all the period.

On the downside, it attracts unwanted attention. This means you'll often wreck a vehicle obtaining rid of the wanted position you obtained by robbing it in the initial place. Messy company. If this can be a problem for you, you might want to make investments in Burke's perk that enables for stealthy car-jackings.Aside from heading fast and having tight control over your vehicle, there are usually other reasons to appear for the greatest car. The Mafia series has seen multiple hiatuses between games, with eight years between the first two and six between the second and third. It has now been four years since the third entry, but 2K Games is set to remake the first game as part of a new release known as Mafia Trilogy. While that version is not out for a few more months, they recently released the remastered Mafia II along with including the already existing Mafia III that is now known in the collection as Mafia III: Definitive Edition.
When Mafia III was originally released, there was certainly some controversy about the change in setting. While the prior two games had the traditional Italian mafia akin to Scarface and The Sopranos, Mafia III was taking a different route by having an African American protagonist that is not part of the traditional mob seen in the first few games. https://loadnfc639.tumblr.com/post/655844989264412672/yanmar-portable-diesel-generator-manual. Instead, Lincoln Clay is a soldier that has just returned back to the fictional New Bordeaux that is based on New Orleans from Vietnam and agrees to help some family and friends with the Haitian mob that have come knocking. Soon after he tries to work out a debt to the Italian mafia that his surrogate father has accrued. This ends up going very poorly and leaves Lincoln wanting revenge against mob boss Sal Marcano and his mafia family. This leads Lincoln to having to gather a unique crew of different partners to help take them down, which is the central focus for most of the game.
Can You Fast Travel In Mafia 3
The story is largely carried by the incredibly captivating Lincoln Clay and the other characters around him, with a solid story surrounding them. Mafia III: Definitive Edition was not afraid to tackle much more intense and dark themes than in the past, which still holds up well now four years later from the original release. While it is definitely a different style than the first couple games, the story is very much worth experiencing here and may be the best of the trilogy in that area.
Where Mafia III suffers most though is the very unoriginal game structure as you play through Lincoln’s story in a once again large sandbox open world experience. The original city of New Bordeaux this time around is larger than both of the first two games combined, but that kind of is a hindrance in some ways as you’re consistently having to drive across the map for new missions. New Bordeaux itself is split up into nine different districts across nine chapters, each of which have a story mission that is split up for you to complete. The repetitive nature of these missions though is where the game really struggles.
Within each district, you have to take over both of the rackets that are found in that location. Once you have successfully done this, a third mission within the chapter will open where you have to take out the person in charge of that district. There is a little more to do in the later chapters, but the biggest problem is that the structure is especially tedious and will have you growing tired of everything in no time. This feels like a course correction from the emptier world found in the previous games, though they may have gone a bit too far in the other direction.
On the plus side, Mafia III does introduce side missions this time around, a major flaw of the previous game. While not available right away, you’ll eventually get access to side missions that branch off from the main story. These include things such as helping out the underbosses by completing tasks for them to gain favor. While they aren’t that most involved overall, they are better than having nothing extra to do like in Mafia II.
The gameplay itself is really nothing to write home about either, albeit a little more refined here. One of the somewhat frustrating elements of the previous game was that you had to press A to leave cover every time, but now you can move much more freely when trying to move between cover or be stealthy. You have the option to adjust aim assist to the level you prefer, which can make the game a bit too easy. There are plenty of guns to choose from here though, with the ability to set them to a wheel and choose between them.
Compared to its predecessors, Mafia III has a major edge in the visuals department. The recent Mafia II: Definitive Edition was definitely more polished visually, but there is still no real comparison between it and Mafia III. Mafia III: Definitive Edition looks great all around, with the character models and environments looking much more realistic. The performance on Xbox One was pretty solid most of the time, with some slowdown here and there when too much was happening on screen. Thankfully, the character movement in general felt much more natural than in the prior games.
While Mafia III: Definitive Edition is literally supposed to be the same game with a new name and all DLC included, somehow Hangar 13 completely messed up one aspect of this game in the included update. Mafia III was given Xbox One X and PS4 Pro support after the release of the game, which added HDR and 4K support to the game to make it look even better. In what is a baffling mistake, somehow this latest update has completely removed this support, now giving you no way to use 4K on consoles. This is something that absolutely has to be patched in, but there is no way it should have ever happened in the first place, especially when this was a free “upgrade” for those that already owned the game.
Mafia as a series has always had a great soundtrack to match the time period, but Mafia III takes this to another level entirely. With the game being set in the late ’60s, the music was ripe for the picking from the era and Hangar 13 did not disappoint. These include songs from artists such as The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Johnny Cash, as the game offers over 100 different songs in total. The stellar soundtrack will constantly have you taking longer routes in your vehicle just to finish an entire song, which at least somewhat helps the fact that the game lacks fast travel.
Mafia III: Definitive Edition somehow managed to improve in one way by including all of the prior DLC, while also taking multiple steps backwards by somehow removing support for Xbox One X, even as a mistake. The story of Lincoln Clay is still enthralling and handles some very dark themes quite well, but the lifeless open world structure found in Mafia III: Definitive Edition really hinders what could have been the best game in the trilogy.
The Verdict
While not anywhere near as glitch ridden as the Mafia II remaster, Mafia III: Definitive Edition adds nothing more than the previously released DLC along with the very strange removal of Xbox One X support that was added to the original release after launch. Lincoln Clay’s story is still well worth experiencing a first time, but there is no real reason to venture back to New Bordeaux with this latest release as part of the Mafia Trilogy.

[Image ID: A cassette tape labeled “Intro - 80′s Jester [Take 3]”.]
Hi! Er, again! I’d like to first preface this with the fact that yes, I was previously @roses-and-comedy; I completely changed my layout to fit present me more. So if you’re already following me--hello again! I have seen various notifications for you guys, despite falling off the face of the earth, so thank you! Now, for a proper introduction...take 3!
[Some of it will be under the cut because it ended up being longer than I expected]
--About
You can call me Rome, Roman, Emcee, or simply Jester. I used to use “Roman Lee as a pseudonym on this site [which is a completely fake name, despite how much it sounds like a real full name], but I am no longer going by that. I may still use it for professional stuff, though, who knows?
My preferred pronouns will be in my bio/status/thing [?? I never know what to call it djslkjds], but you can use any pronouns for me! Yes, yes, “preferred” pronouns are mandatory for anyone, trans or cis, but I am transmasculine genderfluid--most of the time, my preferred pronouns are just the ones I want to hear and be referred to. Also side note: any neopronouns count in the ‘any pronouns’ label--I’d love to hear random neos! You can find my pronoun/label page here ! [Yes, I have a lot of labels aha]
I am a minor [16 years old], and will not interact with NSFW content. I am fine with being followed by adults and will interact with SFW content produced by y’all, but please do not privately message me if you are above the age of 18! However, if you are younger than 18, I am calling you mentally to interact >:]
I am also gay orientated acearo, if you wanted to know that. I can explain that later if anyone asks!
--Blog Things [the short version]
I don’t really have any specific genres other than comedy [and sometimes horror/tragedy; I don’t have many plans yet], so take these other things/tropes I like!
--found family over anything else, always --queer cast!! --aromantic experiences, both in QPRs and being single --Unreliable narrators, 4th wall breaking characters, and omniscient narrators for solely comedic reasons have my entire heart --Screwing with POV; I love finding new ways to tell stories!! --I want to find every single story trope I find cool and use them all <3 --I sometimes write really poetic prose, I sometimes write really stupid things; duality of man
--About, Pt. II
I have always been drawn to the creative nature of things, but writing is my first and strongest passion. Novels, poetry, short stories, podcasts, fanfiction, tv shows, movies--I have tackled them all! I have been writing for as long as I can remember, but only taught myself screenwriting about half a year ago. I still have much to learn about, well, everything to do with writing, but lurking around the writeblr community has taught me enough to jump back in.
I also have been interested in the cinema world for as long as I can remember, but only started to research it about six months ago. I want to study to become a foley artist, film director, or a cameraperson--anything film-related, actually. I’m also very interested in photography, so I’ll share some photos here as well!
I also do have a lot of fandom interests, too! A lot of it has to do with the MCU since I’ve begun to hyperfixate on it, but there may be others I’ll write for/talk about!
This is also sort of my personal blog, despite being a side one--my main is @romeshifting, but it’s pretty much dead at this point and I’m not using it anytime soon. However, I will be following from there because I can’t switch this one to a main and don’t want to make a new account.
But if you want to get to know me more, my inbox is always open! My messages are open too [for those 18 or younger] >:]
--Blog Things
So, you may be wondering what happened, considering this is my third writeblr intro. You also may be wondering especially what has changed, considering how I’m now themed very differently.
I had a particular WIP [the WIP that must not be named] that I was very interested in. However, it brought constant stress and guilt over it being what I actually wanted to write. While I still love the idea, it wasn’t something I actually wanted to put out there, so it dragged me down and made me unmotivated. So I deleted any posts regarding it [as well as any posts that I just didn’t like], as you do.
I don’t currently have any WIPs I’m working on. However, I bring you a character living in my head that needs to pay rent--Pastel McCallian! [She/Her + Ey/Em pronouns]
What I am going to do with her remains a mystery, but look at her!! I will sum her up by saying she is the purest person ever. You could spill soup in eir lap and ey would apologize! /ref
--Blog Things, Pt. II
Writer habits [among other things]! --I write using Fade In or Google Docs [sometimes even in Discord if I’m feeling tired/unproductive] --I adore putting in details and foreshadowing; I just want to know that I put thought into things I write --I am a pantser, but will plan characters and the world first --I firmly believe in Comic Sans supremacy [look I can’t write in anything else anymore] --I also use this piece of writing advice--it has seriously improved my writing! I also use the egg theory [can’t find the exact post, but it has to do with writing around details instead of just outright stating them] and the advice that none of my characters can state the whole truth. --I also write fanfiction sometimes, but I doubt that’ll make its way to this blog--my A03 is pretty empty rn fdsjlkjds
--Final Things and Random Thoughts
I will be redoing my navigation/pinned post, as well as my ‘about the author’ page and wip page [once I get some WIPs kjfdslkjds], so watch out for that! I’ll also send out a few posts for tag game interactions and other things >:]
I use tone tags, as well! If you need to know what those are, here is a carrd about them ! I also don’t use parenthesis outside of writing--favoring to use brackets instead--so there’s that. I have a lot of energy and adore talking to people as well!
And I think that’s about it--I can’t wait to [re]-meet the writeblr community! I do hope this time it sticks because I really want to get myself out there again fdsjklkjfds
Anyways, writeblrs please interact so I can catch up on all of your amazing WIPs!!
[I’ll tag some of the amazing writeblrs who inspired me to restart this account: you all are so cool, please continue doing what you do!]
@writeblrfantasy @stardustspiral @writingamongther0ses @ashen-crest @chayscribbles @screnwriter [and so much more!!]
And a special thank you to @hannahs-kudos, for all their encouragement! Your taglists were one of the main reasons I jumped back into writing again--I never really interacted with your posts, but I read through each one. Thank you so much.

How to Prep for NaNoWriMo
(Or, How I Wrote 30,000 Words in 4 Days to Finish a Novel)
Hey there Scriptaccinos! Welcome back to Aunt Scripty’s House of Mayhem, where we’re getting ready for pumpkin lattes, candy corn, and NaNoWriMo!
People have asked me more than twice about how I manage to be so productive. I work a full-time healthcare job, and yet, in the last year, I’ve created (85+%) or curated (~15%) over 2,000 blog posts, published 3 books, and written at least 200,000 words of personal writing.
I’m not a superhuman. Actually I’m pretty average. And I’ve set myself an enormous personal challenge — write a trilogy of fiction before the end of 2017. While blogging. And helping you all with NaNo.
On the most recent note, I came into October with 18,000 words of a novel written. I wrote the last 30,000 words and finished the project in four days, while answering bucketloads of blog questions (the last 10 days worth of content was also written in that timeframe), contending with a mild fever, and Life Stuff. Oh–and I’m about 14,000 words into Book 2 already.
I have been accused of being a machine. I assure you that beep boop boo–
….uh oh. Who found my secret pictures?!
And yet the number 1 request from my readers is the desire that I clone myself. If only I were Tatiana Maslany…
You don’t have to do all the things I’ve been doing to hit those levels of productivity. But a lot of you are doing NaNoWriMo, and I want to give you some advice for how to Get It The F*** Done, Mate.
I’m also going to give you the techniques I use and some of the books that I’ve read that are helping me along the way. I’m constantly striving to improve how much work I get done with the same measly 24 hours as anyone else.
Defend Your Time
Everything demands your attention. Work does. Your cuddlemate(s) do(es). Your TV calls to you. YouTube beckons with lures of dancing cats. Tumblr will eat your soul if you allow it to.
…establish a writing time. Get up an hour early. Stay up an hour late. Do it on your lunch. Whatever it is, establish a time and defend it. Tell your honey “This is my writing time. This is important to me. I need it.” Sacrifice some TV time. Writing Time is sacred. If you use headphones, put a Post-It on your headphones that say “Writing. Please Do Not Disturb.” (Yes, it’s dorky, but it will work.)
If you need to be in a different physical space to write, go there.
You also have to defend your time from yourself, more than anything. Set an alarm on your phone: This Is Writing Time. Turn off your internet. Silence your phone. And, once you’ve started writing, put it in another room — or at least out of your sight.
You’ll need about an hour and a half every day for this. Ninety minutes. If you can work for 90 minutes a day, six days a week, you can write this novel in a month. (I actually recommend seven days so you don’t lose momentum.)
If your day is jam-packed, decide what’s truly necessary, and what can be smooshed out of the way to make room for your writing time.
Techniques: The Pomodoro
By far, writing in sprints is the number one way to get your stories done. But word sprints are an art form. They need to be done in a special way.
The point of a word sprint is this: For 25 minutes, you will do nothing but write. Phone Off. Butt in chair. Hands on keys. Write.
The best way to do this is to set a timer on your phone for 25 minutes. (If your phone lets you set up multiple ones, like mine does, set another for 5 minutes; you’ll use this when you’re done with your Pomodoro to take a break.) Don’t listen to music that has words. If you can, I actually recommend putting your phone in another room so that you have to get up to make the beeping go away.
For those 25 minutes, you can do nothing but write.
When you’re done, I want you to tally up the number of words you’ve written. (I just make a note in Notepad or StickyNotes on Windows with: Starting Wordcount, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. Track how many words you write in each Pomodoro. (It takes about 4 seconds with a Calculator app.)
NaNoWriMo means writing 50,000 words in 30 days, which is scary. But a smaller target is 1667 words in a day. Still daunting? That’s fine. Do 3 Pomodoros with a target of 650 words per 25 minutes. That’s 26 words in a minute, and it will take you an hour and a half to do three of them. (If you can, I highly recommend 4 — I find the 4th Pomodoro is where I start to hit my stride.)
For productivity stuff, I recommend [5,000 Words per Hour] by Chris Fox; you can get this book for free from [his Web site].
Make It A Game.
Humans love games. Our brains think they’re better than crack. Seriously, Mrs Scripty has been playing hours of Bejeweld Blitz lately.
So make your word count a game. How many words did you do in your last sprint? Let’s top it! What’s your strongest day in the month? Top it! Push yourself to write more and write faster. You’ll get more into the zone and sooner than you think you’ll be blinking and going “Wait… did I just win NaNoWriMo?”
Know What You’re Going to Write (Before You Write It)
This is so important. I cannot even begin to tell you how much this helps. If you want to write quickly, this is how you do it. You plan to write, and then you write the plan.
Whoah! you say. Outlining?! you say. I’m a pantser, like my aged grandmother before me! We don’t need no stinkin’ outlines!
You might not need them. But they help. Especially in a project like NaNoWriMo, or mine (12 Weeks to a Trilogy), knowing where you’re going will help you decide what matters and what has to get written.
I recommend [Take Off Your Pants!] by Libbie Hawker, [Outlining Your Novel] (and the Workbook) by K M Weiland, and [Save the Cat!] by Blake Snyder.
If you plan nothing else about your book, I want you to plan three things:
The Inciting Incident
The Midpoint
The Climax
Do not skip the Midpoint. It will help you. I swears it. (The Midpoint is a big change that causes your character to take things seriously; it’s the big Shit Hits The Fan moment of the middle of the story. It’s a huge false victory or false defeat.) Then all you need to do is get to the next big scene: Write from the “hook” to the Inciting Incident, from the Inciting Incident to the Midpoint, the Midpoint to the Climax, and resolve all the little things after. That’s it. Four easy phases.
A Basic Scene Structure Helps. Really.
A scene is a product of six components:
A Goal — what your hero wants
Some Obstacles — what gets in the way
A Disaster — something catastrophic happens that prevents them from getting their goal (or lets them get what they thought they wanted — for an enormous price)
The character’s Reaction — how they feel about it
A Dilemma — what do we do now after that Disaster?
A Decision — a plan for how to proceed.
That’s it. And the easiest, most helpful thing you can do before writing a scene is give just one sentence to an outline of what you want. Six sentences will get you so far in knowing where you need to take your scene.
Let Yourself Write Shit
First drafts are made to be awful. All of writing is rewriting. You won’t write a good first draft in a month. But guess what? All a first draft has to do to be perfect is exist.
Small Tricks That Really Help:
Research Before or After, Not While, You Write. You don’t have to know everything in the moment. If you need to research something — a gun type, a character’s favorite car, whatever — just [put it in brackets]. You can come back and work on those later.
TK will TKO Your Interruptions. The letters TK are an editor’s mark for To Come. Like brackets, they are magical. Not sure what to name the whizbang gizmo? “Stop or I’ll destroy you with my [gizmo TK].” And move on.
Eat the Elephant Bite By Bite. You’re not writing a novel and you don’t have to write 50,000 words this month. You’re writing one scene, and you’re trying to write 800 words this Pomodoro. That’s it. Miss your 800? Hit it next time.
Take Walks. Your 5-minute breaks between 25-minute Pomodoros? Use those to physically get up and walk around. Don’t stare at the Internet. Go up and down some stairs or go stare at the sunset. Get away from screens.
Leave Tags. When you stop writing, stop in the middle of
a sentence. It makes it so much easier to pick up momentum when you sit down again.
Watch The Movie and Write It Down. It can really help to just picture your scene in your head like a movie, again, before you write. (You can watch it on Fast Forward.) When you sit down to write, just write what you see.
Defend Your Space. Make your own little world. Put in headphones or earbuds and listen to music. I try to either use something appropriate and ambient (like wooden ship sounds for a pirate story) or music set up to be productive (like this upbeat productivity mix).
BONUS!
For all your Scrivener users out there, I made an outlining Scrivener doc!
It has:
A Foolscap outline (to help you with global structure)
Integrated Save the Cat! beat sheet cards (to help you figure out where things belong) with word count targets for 60k, 80k, and 100k projects
Obligatory Scene lists for Thrillers, Redemption stories, and Love stories
Scene cards which include the six-phase scene structure up above.
It’s what I’m using to write the novel I’m currently on, and I think it will help you out. [Here’s where you can download it.]
Also, the structural cards are separate from the Manuscript for the document so that you don’t wind up with random things in your exported ebook/docx/whatever.

How to Fail Successfully
From 2014 to 2016, I queried a novel for the first time.
I was a freshman in college. I extensively researched agents. I got a couple of requests. I changed my manuscript drastically. I queried again. I got some great leads. I got a lot of dead ends.
I started playing a game with my best friend; we guessed in a Final Four-style bracket who would reject me next. I got used to the epic silence of querying, and the fact that, after waiting six weeks and looking to my inbox like it was the bottom of the Christmas tree, “no answer” would have to be a sufficient answer for me.
My book was good. I still think so. I still have dreams about that story and I still get excited about how I could make it even better now.
Fortunately, I didn’t stop my writing career while I was querying. I wrote four more books while I waited. I became more integrated into the writing community on Twitter, and for the first time, I found writing friends.
I have seen a lot of people grow tired. Grow jaded with writing in general, and especially with the industry. That’s fine. Some people follow this path only to learn traditional publishing isn’t for them. Querying is such a good time for reflection. You’re suffering in the weirdest, easiest, most quiet way possible, and it’s a perfect moment to consider—or reconsider—why you want to write, why you want to share this story, and why your anxious stomach aches are worth it all.
There isn’t a simple fix on how to query fearlessly. Fear is part of the game. Losing hope is natural—if you hear no (or no response) at every turn, of course you’re going to feel like this whole writing thing isn’t for you.
Here are some things that helped me.
1. Make writing friends
Through #CPMatch and through Pitch Wars, I was able to meet people who critiqued my MS, shared their wisdom with me, encouraged me, and taught me so much. I read incredible manuscripts and learned how to write stronger. There were techniques I’d never tried before. Plot holes and weaknesses in my stories that I hadn’t really seen before. Above all, the empathy from my writing people is the best part. Querying, writing, revising; it’s all a battle, and to have someone check in on you, talk about their own struggles, and identify with the rough parts of the writing journey? It makes you feel like you aren’t alone and you aren’t stupid for attempting to share your story with the world.
2. Keep writing
Many writers find themselves tempted to go back and touch up their manuscript even while it’s sitting in an agent’s inbox. RESIST! This will end up being a hassle in the long run and you may never find yourself satisfied with the condition of your book. At some point, you have to take your hands away from your manuscript FOREVER, when it goes off to be printed… practice that self-control now!
Instead, edit an old story or start a new one! Becoming invested in new stories and new characters is a great distraction and reminds you why you thought writing was so great in the first place. It’s also great in case you want to try querying a different project someday—or if you land an agent, you might get to show off that new manuscript in your back pocket!
3. Reflect, don’t wallow
Taking time away from writing can also be a good thing. You should give yourself the chance to pause and think about why you want to query, why you love writing, why this story should be shared.
There is a dangerous and false assumption that being critical of yourself is the same as being humble. This isn’t the case. If you get a scathing rejection—which I’ve found to be rare, from my experience and others’—mourn, but don’t let those words define you. The writer you are today is not the writer you’ll be forever. One person’s critique of you doesn’t put you or the quality of your writing into a box. Even if one agent or critique partner—or two or three—points out a flaw you’re hyperaware of, turn that negative thought “I suck at this” into the more positive “I can get better at this.” Ask for help. Do writing exercises. Write fanfiction. The best way to grow in your writing is to exercise your writing muscle, and in my opinion, the best way to do this is to have fun while you do it.
You’re allowed to be sad or scared while you’re querying. You’re even allowed to feel hopeless. But the attitude you choose is also going to color how the next weeks and months of waiting will be. Don’t let your moment of sitting in your sadness turn into you rolling around in a puddle of tears.
4. Distract yourself
If you don’t want to distract yourself with writing, but still want to feel productive, read more books in your genre and/or age category. Consult with your Critique Partners or #amwriting; you may find a new and even better comp title for the novel you’re querying or your work in progress. Reading can also help you identify how other authors have addressed similar problems you find in your own writing (how to write strong dialogue, how to weave complicated plots together, how to juggle multiple POVs, et cetera).
Lastly, here are some things I learned while querying:
1. Query thoughtfully
As the process dragged on, I started to feel like my queries didn’t really matter, and I might as well send as many as I wanted on the off chance I got an agent’s attention. The thrill of clicking send and marking a new name on my query chart made me feel productive, even if I knew deep down that the agent wouldn’t be interested in my book.
If you find yourself sending a query to someone who didn’t say they didn’t want your genre… maybe reconsider.
The person you query is going to be your partner in your art. Make sure, even if they’re the eightieth person you query, that you know something about them, that you like them, and that you feel like they could actually be a good fit for your project.
2. Personalize your queries
This step is a given for most people, but it bears repeating and also connects to my previous point. Research your agents. Use MSWL (Manuscript Wish List). Check their Twitter. See what they like to read. Find blog posts or interviews. Find some sort of touchstone between your book and their interests and mention this in a line or two in your query. It shows that you’re not just spamming agents with queries and that you are invested in your project and willing to put in the work.
3. Make a chart
I made a document listing every agent I queried, their agency, and their email. I color-coded it according to what materials they requested or if they rejected. I also included the date I sent the query or the requested material, as well as an “expiration date”, the date when I would consider the query to be a “no reply means no.” Many agencies will list this expiration date on their website (it’s usually about six weeks), and QueryTracker is another place where you can see how long it takes for an agent to get back to you, typically.
4. Go slow and be willing to change your query or materials
When you first start out, send five to seven queries. Then wait. If you get no response at all, consider tweaking your query or looking back at the first ten pages you’ve sent. This is where your critique partners and other outside voices will help. Two agents told me they felt my story opened in the wrong place, and I paused, made my story stronger, and then sent more queries, to better results. Some other people suggested I change my age category. This also helped me get more positive feedback.
5. Make sure your story is “as advertised”
This is the biggest problem I see in queries I read over. If your selling point in your query is that your story heavily features robot unicorns and your first chapter takes place in ancient Babylon, I’m going to be a little confused and disappointed on the lack of robot unicorns. Your opening may be too slow, or your query may be making promises that are a little misleading in the grand scheme of your novel. Remember that an agent may only see the first five to ten pages of your book. You don’t necessarily need to name-drop the robot unicorns in chapter one, but give us enough of a teaser to make us believe that there will in fact be robot unicorns in your story.
If you’re querying now or if you’re thinking about it, I urge you to continue in your brave but worthwhile journey. I don’t regret the years I tried to get my book published. I’m not embarrassed with my attempts. Instead, I can already see how much I’ve grown, as a person, as a writer, as a critique partner. I’m going to query again someday soon. Maybe I’m met with dead ends like before. Maybe things will be different. Win or lose, I know that I will leave the battle proud of myself and ready to try again stronger.
