As promised: a sample of 3 shelves full of stuff I have yet to bring over from my old bedroom, a mass of chaos organized only by a) the fact that I could fit the maximum number of books/other media per square inch of shelf space this way, and b) this is composed of either 2nd-tier stuff that I didn’t deem quite important enough to bring with me to the apartment, or that I left on this piece because they’re short (height-wise) and/or extra-long rectangles, and thus fit better on these shelves.
All of these also have a 2nd row behind them but we don’t have time to unpack all that today.

I saw the request and knew I should write it quickly. hope u feel better anon, i know u're gonna nail the project 🫶🏻
request from here
master list -> part 2
players/drivers I write for
y/n is staring at her laptop screen, eyes glazed over, feeling like she's drowning in numbers, notes, and complicated diagrams.
The clock on the wall ticks loudly, reminding her of the deadline creeping closer, and she can feel the stress building like a storm inside you.
Her group of friends was supposed to be helping, but one by one, they’d left her to handle everything alone. Her family offered what help they could, but it was clear that science projects weren’t their strong suit. She was in this alone, and it was overwhelming.
Suddenly, she heard a familiar knock at the door, followed by the gentle creak as it opens. Before she can even turn around, a pair of warm arms wrap around her shoulders from behind.
“Hey, mi pequeña científica,” Pau’s soft voice fills the room, his chin resting on top of her head. (my little scientist)
“You look like you’re about two seconds away from throwing this laptop out the window.” he joked, sensing her overwhelmed situation.
y/n let out a sigh, leaning back into his embrace. “Two seconds? I think I’m already there,” she muttered, closing her eyes to keep the frustration at bay. “This project is impossible, and none of my friends have helped at all. I’m just… I don’t even know where to start anymore.”
Pau gently spins her chair to face him, his hands resting on her shoulders as he looks down at her with a soft smile. “Let me see this mess, then. I’m here now, and I’m not leaving until we get this done together, okay?”
She looked at him, a flicker of hope sparking in her chest.
“You mean it? You don’t have to—” she started
“Of course I mean it,” he interrupts, pulling her up from the chair and guiding her to the kitchen table where all her papers are scattered. “What kind of boyfriend would I be if I let my amazing, hardworking girl drown in science notes?”
y/n let out a laugh at his words, feeling some of the tension slip away. “Alright, you asked for it. Welcome to the chaos,” she said gesturing to the mess of papers, half-finished calculations, and diagrams that don’t even make sense to her anymore.
Pau grins, sitting beside hee and picking up a stray page. “Wow, you really went all out here. Let’s see, we’ve got… a million equations and some pretty impressive doodles on the side of this page.” He points to a little sketch she'd absentmindedly drawn of a sun with sunglasses.
she blushed, reaching to snatch the paper from him, but he holds it out of reach, laughing. “No way! I’m keeping this as evidence of your creative genius. But seriously,” he says, his expression softening, “you’re incredible for even attempting this all on your own. Now, let’s break it down together, alright?”
With a deep breath, she nods and explains the project to him, pointing out all the sections that still need to be done. Pau listens carefully, nodding along, and as soon as she's finished explaining, he grabs a pencil and a fresh piece of paper.
“Alright, my love. You take care of the data, and I’ll start on the graphs. Let’s tackle this step by step.” he said, giving her an encouraging smile.
They both dive into the work, and it’s like a weight has been lifted. Pau’s presence grounds her, his little jokes making her smile as he meticulously draws out her graphs and even colors them in with highlighters he found in her pencil case. Every now and then, he looks up at her with a grin.
“You know, you’re gonna owe me a big thank-you kiss for all this coloring,” he teases, holding up a bright yellow bar he’s highlighted.
“Oh, trust me,” she laughs, “I’ll give you all the kisses you want after this.”
“Deal,” he says, his eyes twinkling as he reaches over and plants a quick kiss on her forehead.
Hours pass, and the project finally starts coming together. With one last click, y/n saves the final document, and an overwhelming sense of relief washes over her. She slumps back in her chair, exhaling deeply.
“It’s… it’s done,” she whispers, almost in disbelief.
Pau immediately pulls her into his arms, lifting her off the chair and twirling her around. “I told you we’d finish it. Look at you, mi genio. You did it” (my genius)
Giggling, she wraps her arms around his neck, clinging to him as he spins her. When he finally sets her down, they're both breathless and laughing. Pau cups her face, brushing his thumbs gently over her cheeks.
“You know, I’m really proud of you. You didn’t give up, even when it got tough,” he says softly, his gaze filled with admiration. “You’re amazing.”
A blush rises to her cheeks as she smiles up at him. “Thank you, Pau. I couldn’t have done this without you.”
“Of course you could have,” he says, pressing a gentle kiss to her nose. “But I wouldn’t have missed this for the world. Now…” He pulls you closer, wrapping his arms around her tightly. “How about we celebrate?”
y/n snuggled into his embrace, feeling the last remnants of stress melt away. “What kind of celebration did you have in mind?”
“Hmm,” he says, pretending to think, “how about ice cream? The biggest sundae we can find?”
She laughs gently, looking up at him with a grin. “You know the way to my heart.”
He chuckles, leaning down to kiss her softly. “I know, hermosa. And for the record,” he murmurs, brushing his lips across hers, “I love you. Stress and all.”
Her heart fluttered as she reaches up, winding her arms around his neck. “I love you too, my little science assistant.”
He laughs, pulling her in for another kiss, deeper and slower this time. The world feels calm and steady, and in his arms, everything feels perfectly, wonderfully right.

Making Our First Family Home Purchase During the Pandemic
With the Covid-19 global pandemic forcing almost everyone to be stuck inside their houses the past two years, purchasing our own home was really a big milestone in our young married lives. We had been staying at a small rented unit after our pandemic wedding in late 2020, so last year we started looking for a suitable place that we could truly call home.
There are several factors to consider when making a real estate purchase. The most important is probably the location, since the property should be in a safe neighborhood and within a reasonable distance from our workplace. There’s also the size of the unit in general. Since we are planning to use this as our family home, we needed enough space for our kids in the future. The amenities and commercial areas available for the residents are also important so we don’t have to go out too far to buy essentials, especially with the Manila traffic. Lastly, and probably the most crucial of all, is the price. With real estate prices in Metro Manila going way up in the past decade, we had to make sure that we could afford to pay for the unit we wanted. This is where financial planning comes into the picture.
It’s very seldom that a buyer will purchase a house and pay in full cash, unless he is really loaded. More often, buyers will pay only a portion of the total selling price as a downpayment, then settle the balance by applying for a bank loan. This is where the buyer will have to do some calculations to see whether he or she can afford to pay the monthly amortizatons for the entire loan period. Different banks will offer different interest rates and loan terms for these real estate purchases, so buyers will need some help in figuring out these amounts. Thankfully, I found a site with a monthly amortization calculator that helps with these loan computations, so we were able to make our decisions much easier.
Of course, the first step to do when house hunting is to look for the property that is best for you and your family. There are several local sites that where you can easily search for houses and condominium units according to their location and prices.
Dot Property and Lamudi are two of the more popular real estate website in the Philippines so this is where we found our new home. You can contact the broker or agent listed there are then ask them for other properties they might also be offering.
The next step will then be to check if you can afford paying for your property. It would be difficult to keep asking your bank for computations when you are still looking at several properties and prices. The best way would be to do the calculations using websites like www.mortgagecalculator.uk. You can simply enter the selling price, downpayment, current bank interest rate, and the loan period on the table and it will automatically calculate your monthly amortizations.
This website also produces graphs of loan repayment along with monthly and yearly amortization tables. They also have other calculators there that deals with remortgages, loan overpayments, and even guides to find out of you can afford a certain mortgage or not (www.mortgagecalculator.uk/affordability).
If you need more information or help with your home purchase, you can also inquire with your banks. BPI (www.bpi.com.ph) and BDO (www.bdo.com.ph) usually gives good rates for their housing loans and these are the two banks that I always transact with. They will help you with all the documents and requirements needed to process your home loans.
Buying my own home has always been one of my dreams ever since I was little, so I am so happy that I will finally be moving in to my newly renovated condominium unit later this month. Thankfully, I have all my budgets and financials planned out, so now I can fully enjoy all the amenities and luxuries that come with my dream home.

Chaos’ SAT studying tips
As someone who has dedicated way to much of my time to trying to figure out this stupid test and who has no younger siblings or friends to pass my tips along to, I’m just going to leave some studying tips here so feel free to look at em if you’d like.
First of all, take a practice test to gauge where you’re at. Take note of the types of questions you missed and why you missed them. Also take note of if you’re struggling with time or not.
Really the only way to improve time is to keep practicing with a timer. Maybe even set a timer for less than the amount of time you would actually be given.
But don’t worry about time right off the bat if you’ve never taken the SAT before. At first just take as much time as you need to get used to the questions.
Reading
What I’d recommend to improve your reading score is really just to take more and more practice tests. The important part is to read the answer explanations on the ones you miss or that you struggled with. Try to recognize patterns - is there a certain type of question you miss the most? How does their answer differ from yours? Figure out why theirs is right in a way that makes sense to you.
Remember that there’s always evidence for every answer. If you think something is implied or you’re pretty sure but you don’t feel like you actually read it in the passage, or if you use outside knowledge, that probably ain’t it.
I’ve heard a lot of people say you should summarize the passage to yourself before you try to answer the questions but at least in my experience, the whole time stress thing makes you forget to do that.
If you’re struggling a lot with time it’s a good idea to get used to speed reading, at least to some extent. I took a course on it and the main take away from that was to just guide your eyes by moving your finger or a pen along underneath the words you’re reading. Just try doing that and try to do it faster and faster while still making sure you’re comprehending what you’re reading. Also here’s a free speed reading course I found.
I’m sure you’ve already heard this but Khan academy has timed and not timed reading sections you can use for practice + explanations. They also have videos and stuff with tips for the SAT overall and how-to videos on the different types of questions you’ll come across.
Writing
Pretty similar to the reading section - make sure you recognize the types of questions you typically miss and make sure you really understand why your answer wasn’t what they were looking for.
There are some more hard and fast rules you can study when it comes to writing, which is nice. IE punctuation rules - especially semicolons.
They also do this trick question where they give you the subject of a sentence and then they put a few words and then they ask you for the correct form of the verb. They also do one where the subject is singular/plural but it sounds like it might be plural/singular. Maybe it’s a name of a group or something - They’re trying to throw you off on the number of the verb, and sometimes even if it’s past/present/future etc.
My main tip for time on the writing portion is you do NOT have to read every word of every passage. Unless they’re asking you to move a sentence within a paragraph then you only have to read the underlined portions of the paragraph and sometimes the rest of the sentence that precedes it. Unless they ask you a question that pertains to the main focus of the passage, you do not have to get a real understanding of what the passage is talking about. Remembering this has saved me so much time.
Khan academy also has some practice for the writing, but if I recall correctly they don’t have quite as much material as they do for the reading.
Math
Okay so math was my worst section until just this year.
First of all, same rule applies - take lots of practice tests and make sure you understand why you missed the questions you did. As you’re going over your answers + the explanations, make a few sheets in a notebook with reminders or rules or tips or a few common formulas that you usually forget. If there’s one certain concept (for example, parabolas) you can n o t understand - really take the time to sit down and try to understand everything you can about that concept. Write it all down on a dedicated sheet of paper in a way that you can easily look over later.
Some formulas I think it’s important to understand are the graph of a circle, the vertex form of a parabola, standard form of a parabola and slope-intercept form of a line. There’s a few more but those are the main ones off the top of my head.
For math, you can definitely start at Khan academy - they obviously have tons of content for SAT math and math in general. For some people that’s all they use and they get really good scores. For me though, I could only get so far with it.
One thing about Khan academy is they usually just show you the longer, math-y way to do a problem (from what I recall. I could be totally wrong on this cause it’s been a while) when a lot of times on the SAT there’s a really easy and obvious way to get an answer in seconds without doing lots of calculation - if you know where to look for it.
I found this youtube playlist rather helpful when it comes to getting the math questions done the quick and effective way. Most of the time you really don’t have to solve out every problem or answer. The guy doesn’t talk in all the videos but there’s a good number of them where he explains what he’s doing and gives several examples. I’m pretty sure he always writes out all the steps of how he solves the problems.
Honestly just watching him do the problems so quickly gave me a lot of confidence because it made sense how he did it. “If he can do that that fast then so can I!”
One thing is, if you do use the ‘don’t solve out every detail’ way and you have time left over at the end, definitely go back and check over ones that you weren’t so sure about or that seemed like they might have been trick questions. This really applies to all the sections.
Overall
College board also has their own study guide. It’s organized by three overall sections: “getting ready for the SAT, english and math. English and math are both broken down by every type of question they have on the test, so you can only download the sections that you need to work on. I’d say just search the PDF for the specific concept you’re struggling with, but I guess you could read the whole guide if you want to and have the time.
Supertutortv is a youtube channel with lots of tips and stuff.
Growing up I was always told that the SAT is about ✨logic✨and I guess that’s still true. They’re less testing you on what you know and more so testing you on if you know what to do. Problem solving and analysis.
Finally, if/when you take the test for real, try to be as chill as possible about it. Don’t be stressed about how you’re going to do or what you’re going to do. Be confident in the fact that you prepared or in the fact that you didn’t want to do much prep and that that was the best choice for you. Don’t think about college or your future or what your parents or whoever is in your life is going to think. Don’t think ahead at all. Just focus on what you’re doing at that moment.
Feel free to send me an ask or DM and I’d love to answer any questions or provide more resources or do anything else I can to help anyone who happens across this post.

here it is! a nice lil ap bio masterpost + a few tips to help you out :)
official college board page for ap bio official college board home page for ap bio old free response questions + scoring guides course description, course overview, course details official ap bio faq ap biology quantitative skills pdf
classes that will help you: biology, chemistry, algebra (you don’t need to take these courses before taking the class though)
some tips:
start studying / practicing early! there’s a loooooot of material + you do not want to cram all of this stuff before the exam
i wouldn’t really recommend this class as a self-study class.
practice the released free-response questions as well as practice tests to get familiar with the format and style of questions.
ap bio gives you a lot of unnecessary info in the question (kinda like those whap questions if you know what i mean?). identify the concept that the question covers and what the question is actually asking you to do. most of the time, the first couple sentences are a bit useless, so if you still need more info to answer the question, skim through the paragraphs quickly for the necessary info.
read your diagrams and graphs carefully
make sure you understand the concepts behind your labs
you can bring a four-function + square root calculator with you to the exam. don’t bring your fancy graphing or scientific calculator. you won’t be able to use it.
you will be given some formulas, but it’s still a good idea to memorize them so that you can make the most of your time.
i’d recommend getting an ap book to study
diagrams + videos + analogies are very helpful for understanding concepts that you’re not really getting
i have more tips so feel free to request a more detailed post with my own personal tips for ap biology if you want it

Academics
In terms of difficulty, high school is a step up from elementary school, but in my opinion, not that harder. Show up to class, take down notes, and do homework (you don’t necessarily have to finish it) and you should do fine. A lot of people are incredibly lazy in high school. Just put in some effort and you will get good grades.
You won’t always have a well-structured class with a good teacher and resources. Adapt around it using the Internet and other resources given to you.
English Class: You’re going to have to take this all four years, so you should get used to writing essays and analyzing literature. If you’re applying to a university in Canada, you will need grade 12 English and it will always count toward your average. Whether you love it or hate it, do your best in the class, because you can’t get away with being lazy. Here are some links that you may find useful:
Use proper grammar.
Master the five-paragraph essay.
Learn how to analyze literature.
SparkNotes is a lifesaver for literature. Do not rely on it too much since your teacher is likely going to know it exists. It’s very useful, especially with analyzing Shakespeare.
Purdue OWL is an amazing writing resource that you can use all throughout your academic years. It teaches you how to write in different formats, notoriously MLA format.
University of Toronto writing advice explains every writing concept you would need academically.
Science Class: Read your textbook. Draw out diagrams (even if they’re ugly-looking), because a lot of science is visual. And do practice questions from the textbook. If you’re in a good class, your homework will be enough studying, and all you should be doing the day before a test is reviewing concepts. This class is fun so enjoy it.
List of science resources
Math Class: Do. Your. Homework. Your homework should consist of numerous practice questions. Do as much as you can. The key to being good at math is practice.
MathIsFun explains math concepts.
Master algebra. A good foundation in algebra is necessary to do well in math.
My rule of thumb: I spend at maximum of 15 - 20 minutes on a math problem. If I don’t get it, I save it as a question for class or my peers. Don’t spend hours on a single math problem.
Geography & History: You will be taking grade 9 geography and grade 10 history. There is a lot of memorization in these classes, so learn how to memorize.
Religion Class: Grade 9, 10, and 12 religion is easy, but don’t slack off because of it. They can be very easy marks and average-boosters. Grade 11 religion is world religion, and it will require a lot of memorization.
Focus on what the teacher wants. Unlike elementary school, high school tests and assignments are stricter. Check the list of everything required in the assignment and do it well. They will often give you a rubric or outline. Use it as your bible.
Learn how to research and cite. This will be more relevant as years in high school go by and prepare you for university. You want to know how to recognize a source is reliable, not plagiarize it, and cite it (both in-text and as a list of references).
How to cite using MLA format
BibMe creates citations for you
How to paraphrase
Never plagiarize. There are no shortcuts to learning. In the short-term, you might not get caught and get high grades, but you won’t know the information properly. It’s better to get an 80 trying your best than a 100 plagiarizing. Don’t ever cheat on tests, either. You may, however, study in groups, look at other peoples’ homework, look at previous years’ work, etc. for help. In the end, you’re being tested on your knowledge, and it will show in your future career.
Learn how to memorize. A lot of your high school classes are going to entail memorization. You should first and foremost understand the concept/idea, and then you should memorize information that you will regurgitate on tests.
Memory tips and techniques
Advanced memorization techniques
Read. Read something that may not necessarily be related to your classes. Take out books from the library or read things online about things you’re interested in. You will be more well-rounded and sane because of it. Try to build up your vocabulary.
Basically, learn how to study now. Build your study skills here and they will come in handy when it comes to university.
Exams
Exams are a review of everything you’ve learned in the class. If you make a small review for each unit/section of the class, then all you have to do is put those reviews together and study from that. (You could always study everything at the last minute, but I recommend you try not to do that.)
Your teacher may give you an exam review outline. Create a study guide based off of it. Answer the practice questions, define all of the terms you need to know, etc. and study off of it before the exam.
Get good sleep and eat breakfast before an exam. I cannot emphasize how important it is that you’re well-rested. You want to do your best, so you should be at your best.
You will do fine! If you do consistent work for a class all throughout the school year, studying for an exam should be easy, especially if your teacher gives you a review.
Organization & Time Management
School Supplies:
Have a binder for each class. Put the course outline in the front. Keep stacks of lined paper in each binder. Keep binders in your locker and pull them out for classes.
Consider getting binder dividers for each unit for each binder. Hole punch unit tests and put them at the end of every section for exam review.
Put dates and titles on all your notes. Keep your binder organized chronologically.
Have a separate folder to hold loose papers and put them away appropriately.
Get a separate graph paper notebook for math class for homework/practice.
Write in pencil so you can erase mistakes.
Highlighters are great to emphasize certain information. Use them wisely.
Get a good scientific calculator. You can use it all throughout high school if you take good care of it.
Use sticky notes in your textbooks and in your class notes. Use it to write down mnemonics, notes to yourself, extra information, highlight important information, bookmark pages, etc.
Get a hole punch and stapler for organization.
Use your agenda! Write down homework at the end of each class and make a habit of looking at it whenever you need to do homework.
You should spend no more than 1 hour per class on homework every day, though maybe some more time is necessary for math. Yes, high school takes up a lot of work. Try to finish your homework in given free time during classes so you have more time after school for clubs, hobbies, etc.
Don’t procrastinate. Don’t put off what could be done now, because doing everything last minute often sucks.
Figure out why you’re procrastinating. Is the work hard? Or is the work boring? Address the problem appropriately.
If it’s hard, try to get help for it, whether the Internet, a teacher, or a friend.
Is it boring? Find something you find interesting in it, or work on it in chunks (ex. 30 minutes, 15 minutes) and every so often take a break in between so it’s manageable.
Sometimes you have to shoulder through work. Visualize being finished with it and finish it! This is a highly important high school skill and I suggest you master it quickly.
Look at the end goal. In the short term, it might be a high grade on the test. In the long term, it might be getting into a good university. Try to stay motivated.
Social Life
High school isn’t like the movies. There are no cliques, no jocks and nerds. Just friend groups. Try to find a group that you can relate to but won’t encourage bad habits (not studying, skipping class, smoking, underage drinking, illicit drugs, etc.) or form your own.
Be nice to everyone. Even if they hate you. It’s really not worth it to make enemies. If someone asks you for help, give it to them. If someone bullies you, ignore them. High school drama is meaningless.
Get involved. This is the most cliche and yet the most important piece of social advice I can give you. You are guaranteed a friend group just by joining a club. And you’ll have something to do.
Join a club that gives you volunteer hours and get those done as soon as you possibly can. You don’t want to end up in senior year, applying for universities, trying to get good grades, and having to volunteer on top of that. Try to get all 40 hours during 9th grade, and continue to get them because volunteering is fun and gives you something to put on your resume.
Go to events. They may cost a small fee but it’s worth it. Peoples’ best memories in high school are not the long hours of classes; it’s what they did. Enjoy it here.
If you don’t like high school, that’s okay. A lot of people don’t. It’s 4 years of your life (5 if you take a “gap year”) and it goes by quickly. Keep the big picture in mind and push through it.
Health
Sleep! You will be waking up early five days a week so get to bed at a decent time. I suggest no later than midnight or 1 am. Sleep deprivation wrecks havoc on your health.
Eat well. Try to sneak in breakfast in the mornings (even if it’s just an apple or a granola bar) and pack a good lunch. Some teachers may let you snack in classes so pack food. You do not want to go hungry. It’s hard to concentrate in class when you’re tired and hungry.
High school is one of the most stressful times of your adolescence. You will be pressured by your parents, your teachers, your relatives, and sometimes it will feel like too much. You are still growing and still figuring out who you are. It’s an easy time for mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, to arise. You will be pushed to your limits sometimes. It’s a good thing, but don’t ever let the stress get to you. Your cousin was sent to the hospital several times because of the stress. It is not worth it. Your health is more important than anything else.
Don’t be afraid to talk to your parents about issues.
If you really don’t want to, there should be a school child and youth worker, or a guidance counselor, or some sort of trusted adult in your life.
Friends are lifesavers and often a main source of support. Find a good friend or two that you can trust with your secrets.

Your Comprehensive Guide to Surviving Grade 11
WARNING: The longest post I’ve ever made in the history of my blogging “career” is up ahead. Nevertheless, please read it so my efforts won’t be wasted.
In a nutshell, last school year was me trying to secure the Guinness World Record for the number of breakdowns on a bedroom floor. The amount of workload was unforgiving, the pressure to perform was crippling, the competition was inadvertently fierce and the standards set were higher than fun.'s friends in the Empire State. (Please get this reference.) Surprisingly, I survived and lived not only to tell the tale but to also help incoming Grade 11 students prepare for the year that is to come so they won't have to deal with the many risks of premature stress like I did! This is where this guide (with some unnecessary blabber on the side because will it really be an Angel Martinez post without it) comes in. Though it's a given that not everything that happened to me won't apply to you, I still hope you use these to better your experiences and emerge as a stronger and more productive person! Like me, I guess. In a way.
To kick this off, let me just say that I know this notice might be coming in a little late, since enrollment for most schools (in the metro, at least) have already come to a close. Thus, by the time you've read this, you may have already chosen a strand of your own! The selection of some schools may be limited to the basics: Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM) and Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) which are all pretty self-explanatory in terms of the topics of focus. But from what I know, others also offer Arts and Design and Sports for those who wish to devote their full attention to the talents they wish to hone and even a general academic strand for the benefit of those who remain undecided. I, for one, chose ABM: I didn’t feel like committing to a certain career yet and wanted to opt for the safest option among the choices.
The process of choosing which way to go is pretty intimidating at first especially once you figure out that the rest of your life may very well be at stake. But, it isn't that much of a pain once you reflect on your interests enough and see if those align with what you want to do and where you want to be in the future, if that’s not too forward looking for you! I know a couple of people who’ve had to compromise their true passions for the sake of pleasing their families. Whether it’s to continue a legacy that’s been passed down for several generations or fulfill a dream that belonged to someone else, some parents believe they have every reason in the world to demand their children’s future, even if it’s obviously against their will. Yes, I believe that it’s their responsibility to guide their kids through the process of figuring out what they want to be in such a fast-paced and ever-changing world where anyone can influence and be influenced for better or for worse. They must be able to provide the insight that only they possess after all the years they’ve spent collecting wisdom. They should help us plan out what’s gonna be on the blueprint of our lives, not finish it by themselves, present it and expect us to follow without any questions.
But as per usual, I digress. TL:DR choose the track you want, you don’t owe anything to anyone.
Generally, Grade 11 will be the hardest year on you. It doesn’t care if you came terribly unprepared, if you haven’t slept a wink in eons or if the people you live with barely even know who you are anymore. It’s unforgiving and relentless in the pursuit of giving you the biggest ordeal of your life. Based on my personal experience, I reckon it’s due to the fact that our teachers stand by their decision to treat us as young adults, seeing as we’d be in first year college anyway if the K-to-12 program wasn’t a thing. When we were children, everything we needed to know about a certain topic would be put on a silver platter and handed over to us, usually in the form of photocopied sheets of old handouts. All we’d have to do is memorize whatever was on them and eventually ace the tests that usually came in multiple choice or matching type form.
But now, we’re in charge of making our own notes, deciphering cryptic explanations for a certain lesson and most of all, making our own creative output based on what we could be often inaccurate interpretations. Grade 11 gave big importance to the performance task, much to the dismay of everybody. Whether individual or by group, it was always half our grade and due way before any of us were ready to face the task at hand. It also required coming up with original ideas, or solutions to the most common problems and it’s either bland when working alone or chaotic when with classmates, because everyone wants to be heard when we’re actually fighting for metaphorical spots.
I didn’t feel it much during the first semester though, because I had the best schedule on campus. Classes ended at 2:30PM for me so I had plenty of time at my disposal. I could hang out with friends, have a chat with my mom and procrastinate (responsibly) before proceeding with my work and still be able to go to sleep before the clock struck ten. My subjects weren’t terrible as well. Yeah, not all of them were anchored in the very foundation of my track but I was able to get grades far better than I would have expected, so it’s all good. Here’s a briefer on each:
General Math
A solid 8/10, which is a big deal considering the fact that Math has never been my strong suit. First quarter covers topics I barely understood when they were discussed to me in Grades 9 and 10, namely functions (linear, quadratic, polynomial, The Problematic Trio aka rational, exponential and piecewise) and equalities and inequalities. Second quarter focuses on business math, weirdly enough when there’s an entirely different subject for that, but the lessons don’t overlap. Annuities, stocks and bonds, and loans were explained plus a little bit of logic towards the end.
The key to Math is a heck lot of practice. Practice, practice, practice. Even when you know the answers, or more preferably when there’s no key given. Answer every problem in the book on a separate sheet of paper, make up your own, explain the procedure of solving to yourself, help a friend out and refresh your memory simultaneously. Do it when you get home, or when you have a free period at school or you have no idea what else to do seeing as that’s the only way you’ll develop the skills needed to become a human calculator.
Business Math
A more practical Math subject: every single topic discussed was something that could be applied in real life and useful to us when we have careers. The first few weeks consisted of our reviewing our favorites: fractions, decimal and percentage, and ratio and proportion, so it evidently started on a good note. It later on proceeds to buying and selling, computation for salaries and wages then the presentation and analysis of business data in table and graph form.
Though the lessons here are undeniably easier than our previous Math subject, it still wouldn’t hurt to practice, especially if everything isn’t clear to you from the get go. If your teacher is anything like mine and thrives on class participation, recite as often as you can whether it’s to give a recap of yesterday’s lesson or show the solution on the board. Her personal favorites in our class were those who made it a point to raise their hands as often as possible.
Physical Science
A mix of the deadliest sciences mixed in one subject. Physics and chemistry, folks. Just as appealing as it sounds. If you like both of them, you’ll breeze past this, no sweat. But if you’re like me and you stopped paying attention in science class after the teacher was done discussing the body system, you’ll have a lot of catching up to do. Subject matter included motion, energy, chemical reactions, force and energy. Don’t be too excited that there are only five, because these took two semesters to properly shove in our craniums.
There’s no downtime in this subject, you have to hustle every single day or else you’ll fall behind while the work just keeps piling up. Read up on everything and do not leave out even a single detail: know which causes what, and why well enough to the point that you can recite it in your sleep. Memorize the formulas and most importantly, invest in a double liner calculator! It’s a bit pricey but spending the amount required is far better than having to enter multiple parentheses to work your way around an equation.
Earth and Life Science
Personally the superior science for me, considering that the topics were genuinely interesting and made me gain a better understanding of how the world works. We studied the origin and structure of the earth and beyond, earth processes, natural hazards, bioenergetics, perpetuation of life, evolution, organ systems and interaction and interdependence.
The only downside for some is that many terms will be introduced throughout the course of this subject, and you’ll obviously be required to memorize them all and at the very least, identify their definitions. Making flash cards for each lesson would definitely come in handy, even if takes a while and could very well cramp your hand but there’s this app called Quizlet which basically serves the same purpose and is easily accessible in any device you download it on.
Oral Communication
I think I was the only one in class who actually enjoyed what was going on for the most part of Oral Com, since I enjoy talking to a crowd and writing. If the mere mention of that phrase alone gives you shivers down to your spine, I guess you’ll have a lot of mental and emotional preparation to do. Normally, this subject would heavily rely on application of learnings through exercises and presentations but there was still a bit of (unnecessary) discussion here and there on topics like public communication skills and communicative strategies.
Expect a lot of speaking in front of the classroom! Tasks will range from impromptu (no time to think beforehand), extemporaneous (short preparation time upon receiving the question) and prepared speaking. Groupwork is also high in number: the teacher will give you a situation (e.g. you’ll be selling a product, your house is on fire and you need to call the fire department, ya know… the usual [?]) and you’ll need to propose your solution in the most eloquent and spontaneous way possible. Which means no reading aloud of lines scribbled on your hand with a G-Tec.
Organization and Management
Basically an introduction to the world of business and thus an essential subject for my strand. Points discussed were the nature of management, the firm and its environment, environmental scanning (PEST and SWOT analysis) and the functions of a manager in detail (planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling).
This subject was very detail-heavy so as much as I was willing to learn, I couldn’t avoid being overwhelmed by the number of things we were trying to run through in around sixteen weeks. It also didn’t help that we didn’t have a book to refer to and had literal stacks of photocopied handouts to lug around instead. But I guess by now, your school has a textbook to provide you with and if not, there are some published by Rex Bookstore available in big branches of National Bookstore like in Quezon Avenue. The best thing to do to survive this subject is to read so you can understand all the concepts. Everything discussed is important and the quizzes and quarterly tests you’ll take will require not only what you think it means, but also how you’ll use it IRL
Understanding Culture, Society and Politics
Potentially one of your favorite subjects, if you’re given the right teacher, since it focuses on the intricacies of our lives as human beings. From the study of humans past and present and the complexity of our cultures (anthropology), we head on to the analysis of government systems and activity (political science) and the nitty-gritty of our development and functions in human society (sociology).
I didn’t have a problem with this step the lessons were comprehensible enough to grasp my attention but just make sure that you exert effort to understand everything! Because even though a chunk of the activities also include matching type, true or false or fill in the blanks, essays are a mainstay. Usually, they’re not based on facts too but on your own personal opinion and the teacher will be able to tell if you don’t have a particular stand or you do yet you fail to back it up with actual evidence, so be sure to find a basis for everything you say.
Unfortunately, all fun and games were over when the second semester rolled in. Our privileges were taken back and our schedule was reverted back to the usual 4:20PM. Thanks to the fact that my busmates never went straight to the bus upon dismissal and liked roaming around the campus, leaving our conductor to search for them like she was in some sort of treasure hunt, I went home at 6:00PM every day. To make matters worse, this just so happened to be the season when the research papers started rolling in, one by one, all poised and ready to kill us ever so slowly. Let me give you another quick recap:
Pagbasa at Pagsuri
Definitely not the kind of “Pagbasa” I was expecting, if I’m being frank. I thought we were going to be reading and analyzing contemporary Filipino literature, which excited me since my knowledge in that genre was close to non-existent. Turns out, we would be looking at different kinds of texts (informative, persuasive, analytical, etc) then finding out how to write them afterwards. There’s a chance you might not experience this unless we go to the same school, but our teacher invented the ADIDS method in order to help us learn this more effectively through application. I forgot what it stands for, but basically all you do is discuss each facet of a very broad topic thoroughly in the form of a well thought out class presentation.
Meanwhile, the research paper takes up one whole semester. Not to sound boastful, but I had thought that I would be able to do this with ease because all I ever do with my life is write I mean I practically came out of my mother’s womb with a pen and paper in hand and I speak more Filipino than English these days seeing as I spend a bigger portion of my day in school. But, the finished product is often bland and makes use of the same words over and over in a failed attempt to accurately describe what I want to put on paper. And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the topic also had to be narrowed down repeatedly to suit a particular audience, from a specific place within a specific time frame so we ended up doing a research on the effects of Jason Derulo’s songs on the opinions of Grade 11 students from our school in the academic year 2016-2017. Please don’t laugh at us.
You also don’t just write the entire paper, but also be briefed on its parts, their functions and determine what sets them apart from each other, and the specifications in making each of them. Which includes stuff as minuscule as the measurement of the margins, font sizes and types to use et cetera. It’s not that hard though because as you’re working on the paper, you familiarize yourself even more.
Komunikasyon at Pananaliksik
The easiest one I took the entire semester, and for obvious reasons, my favorite. Our teacher was brilliant in the sense that he was well-versed in the subject matter and got work done yet let us watch Train to Busan or Seklusyon on the TV if the schedule permitted. The topics weren’t mind-boggling either: we just covered the history of the Filipino language and communicative skills (which further cemented my belief that this was basically the counterpart of Oral Com). They may be confusing at first but the key is to notice sentence patterns! The number of activities given to us was reasonable and not particularly stress-inducing: just quizzes that were few and far-between, a groupwork and reaction paper for a performance task.
Fundamentals of Accounting
A lot of people are intimidated by the idea of studying Accounting, and I’m not surprised. It’s always described as something that relies on analysis and numbers, two things that we normally don’t excel in at school. But it’s actually nothing to fuss about as long as you do your reading, understand the basic guidelines, practice at home and have a qualified teacher who has the proper training and skill set. The first few chapters don’t even involve computation of any kind yet. You’ll just be acquainted with the very foundation of the subject: the branches of accounting, the users of accounting information, the forms of business organizations and types of businesses. Maybe the most important lessons that you could pick up are the accounting equation (assets = liabilities + equity), types of major accounts and the generally accepted principles because they serve as the rules to follow for making your accounting-related decisions.
Eventually, you’ll make it to business transactions and their analysis, where you’ll be taking a trip around the whole accounting cycle. You’ll have to fill out a journal, ledger and unadjusted trial balance then adjust that trial balance using the adjusting entries normally provided to create your income statement, balance sheet, closing entries and the end goal, the post-closing trial balance. Sounds like a lot of work, but it’s seriously not that difficult if you do your homework! It’s also best to invest in an actual journal and worksheet, instead of solving on sheets of yellow pad that can easily be misplaced.
Statistics and Probability
Stat was weird for me in the sense that our lessons were generally ambiguous unlike what their names insinuated and I seemed to understand everything while it was being discussed but the minute I got home to work on assignments, I found myself staring at a wall until a friend who actually knows what to do goes online on Messenger. Later on, I found out it was because I needed to practice on my own to be familiar with the procedure instead of trying to memorize all the steps when it depends on the type of problem. We covered random variables, probability distributions, normal distributions, sampling, estimation of parameters and hypothesis testing (which was actually quite fun).
If you’re not keeping up to speed with everyone else, please do work on it as early as possible. The lessons here are somewhat connected to each other so if you failed to catch the drift on one of them, it’ll create a chain reaction and by the last topic, you’ll have zero knowledge of how to solve anything. Ask help, preferably from your teacher because not only do they explain it most accurately but it helps them see your initiative to do better, which they take into consideration when computing for your final grade. Do not settle for the exercises found on the book. Make your own, if you’re in the mood to cramp your hand, or turn to websites like The Oxford Math Center for useful worksheets with answer keys.
Contemporary Art
The very bane of my existence. The perfect way to sum up this subject in six words. Art was never my strength, anyone who knows me is aware that I can’t draw to save my life, but it didn’t really have much of a dent on my report card since it happened to be a minor subject. But thanks to the implementation of the new curriculum, it is given a new sense of purpose as a core subject with a weight of O N E. We had dealt with the different periods of Philippine art extensively, the National Artists of the country and different contemporary art forms such as film and the oddly interesting performance art. (Trigger warning for some graphic content though, so do be careful when searching these up!)
Activities ranged from making presentations similar in format to those in Pagbasa at Pagsuri, creating manifestos for the Philippine youth in relation to their role in the art world, holding a class exhibit to display the work you’ve made and my favorite: going on a fieldwork to hunt for contemporary art in the city. All this will lead to the culminating activity: the creation of your very own output, where anything is possible and depends solely on the one calling the shots.
This art class is no longer focusing solely on the physical aspects of a certain work, but also on what it actually means and what its relevance to society actually is. So, a good tip would be to always look at the bigger picture when given something to analyze! It’s hard at first, I admit I didn’t have much to say during the first few meetings but as the floor is opened to more interpretation and intellectual discussion, you’ll get the hang of it and instinctively feel the need to join in.
** We are about to dive in a zone that is fittingly named The Deadly Trio. ** Actually, if these were stand-alone subjects, I’d be fine but the fact that there are three of them in one semester when they’re basically discussing the same things and giving the same ridiculous amount of take home work was enough to drive me up the wall.
Practical Research
As implied by the very name of this subject, the main focus would be the creation of a qualitative practical research paper throughout the entirety of the semester. Discussions here were very minimal, as the teacher thankfully wanted us to focus on getting as much work done in the classroom as possible. I slacked off moderately during her period instead of lessening what I’d have to do at home, and in the end I ultimately suffered. But anyway, topics discussed include the importance of qualitative research, finding a good topic and sources to build it up, reviewing different types of literature, understanding and collecting data and further analyzing it to later on be able to report our findings.
One another thing to look forward to (not in a good way) is the dreaded thesis defense, where your paper will be dissected and closely examined for any possible shortcomings and held against you in front of a panel. It doesn’t always have to be the bane of your existence: as long as you contributed to the making of the project, you’ll know enough that you won’t be humiliated the minute you open your mouth.
A tip to take into consideration is to choose the right groupmates. Unless teachers pre-determine who you end up working with for two straight quarters (in that case, you’ll just have to learn how to accept your fate, whether it is for better or for worse), as much as possible, go for those who are responsible and actually care about their grades. It’s never fun to work with people who send you a montage of copy-pasted statements from Wikipedia pages and pass it off as their “contribution”, go offline Messenger the minute you even think about asking for help and think that printing the paper is a valuable addition to the team.
Reading and Writing
Contrary to what I initially thought, this was not the counterpart of Pagbasa at Pagsuri in the English language and I was thankful in a way because God knows the pain that inflicted upon me. The first quarter starts off quite easy, with critical thinking, fundamental reading skills, selecting and organizing information and critical reading skills. It may sound like a mouthful, but most of these are stuff you’ve picked up long before, without the assistance of a teacher! Some people may find patterns of development a hard topic, but if you read books, I guess identifying them just comes natural to you.
The latter part of this subject is where the ugly stuff goes in. I personally felt deceived into thinking that it would be as simple as our first lessons: identifying and writing the thesis statement and topic statement then it suddenly escalates and turns into SO MUCH ACADEMIC WRITING. When I saw that we were going to be making book reports and article critiques, I shelled out some of my favorite fictional reads and Man Repeller stories of the month only to find out that we’d be reviewing serious, educational material with very specific and strict guidelines to follow to make it as formal and cohesive (and basically not fun) as possible. Research reports, project proposals and position papers will also be in the works at some point: they are very structured and usually have to revolve around topics that are related to your strand, so there is a chance you may find it boring.
English for Academic and Professional Purposes
When I saw I had this for a subject, I was actually glad at first since English has always been my forte. So I was anticipating a repeat tutorial on all parts of speech and the basics of the subject-verb agreement when in reality, all I got was a dupe of Reading and Writing. Which is why, I had no idea why we had to take up both of them during the same semester.
Besides all subjects that required the submission of a research paper as some sort of culmination, this was the most demanding in terms of written output. During the first quarter, it’s still permissible to chill as you’re only going through reading and writing different types of academic texts (does this sound familiar to any of you?) but as the next one rolls along, BOOM. Reaction paper. Reflection paper. (Yes, there is a difference.) Concept paper. ANOTHER position paper. Report.
Now, if you’re already thinking about how you’re going to make it through when your writing is as lifeless and flat as can be (e.g. It is a sunny day, I ate an apple, I need to pee), don’t sweat it. That is exactly what your EAPP teacher will be looking for anyway. Academic texts do not require flowery writing that went through EDSA traffic before getting to the point (which was obviously an inconvenience for me): nobody cares about your opinion unless they say so and even if they do, they’ll probably require a sentence limit.
Well, that’s a wrap! I spent approximately twelve hours working on this post: one of which was spent on the Kitkat bench in Landmark trying to find a catchy way to start it off, and my eyes hurt and I may be suffering from carpal tunnel but all of that means nothing as long as I’ve been able to guide one hopeless soul out of the dark. I’ll be back with much lighter content very soon if I can factory reset my head and get it to work properly again.
Stay in school, kids!

There are a couple of selections with one-of-a-kind features with prices ranging from unfastened to up to more than one masses of kilos a month. Some of the e-mail software companies are unknown, even as others together with mailchimp dominate google results. I don’t like to put all my eggs in a single basket. Therefore, i have examined several e-mail marketing software vendors. The time has come to share my studies with mailchimp and its options. Mailchimp: funky expert for a start
Read Also:- Some common LOGO design mistakes which you need to avoid in 2020
i was a amateur in electronic mail advertising once i commenced this paintings. Mailchimp, that candy little monkey got here into my life right when i wanted it. Design. That’s what brought me there first. Drag & drop editor is what had me hooked for some time. The entire mailchimp interface is person-pleasant, simple and professional-looking. With some clicks you may create an outstanding e-newsletter – i could sincerely experience that they put money into growing beautiful design. Mailchimp is actually a viable option if you’re a primary-time consumer or you are nevertheless getting to know how newsletters work. Mailchimp is definitely a feasible option if you’re a first-time person or you're still mastering how newsletters paintings. Especially, if you are still gaining knowledge of how newsletters paintings. However, with guidance i advanced a knack for layout and began noticing the shortage of more superior capabilities. Furthermore, a growing listing of subscribers compelled me to search for higher alternatives as calculating roi did not meet my expectancies. So i went hunting. Steady touch: greater advanced & extra complex
quite a catch. Consistent touch is like a library: it presents extra than 400 custom templates. I like their campaigns which are not restricted to newsletters. You may refine your search by using the form of facts you need to send or get: collect occasion registrations, create a chit, develop a number of facebook lovers, and many others. This is the feature i have used plenty. Detailed search no longer only affords greater suitable templates but also allows with listing available content material kinds. If you are more skilled or like to deal with things yourself, steady touch offers you with superior modifying features, education and more. Particularly if you are inclined to pay for it. So, why have i left? This large participant lacks an vital characteristic – an automatic a/b cut up testing that lets in sending out exclusive versions of e mail campaigns to look which one performs better, which changes have an impact on consequences. Plus, as i've already referred to, constant touch is like a massive library. It has so many features it'd take months to explore they all. 60 days loose trial might simply no longer be enough to check it and taste it. If you ask approximately consumer interface, changing from mailchimp doesn’t make things simpler either. Constant contact is quite complicated: many steps, even greater records gaps to fill and, to be sincere, dull design and communication. This opportunity is a higher alternative for the superior customers handling things on their own. For me, design is one of the key components. I am sorry, regular contact. Next. Verdict: regular contact in case you are more experienced. Mailerlite: a light in the dark
if steady contact is the large fish, mailerlite is my gold one. Unlike constant contact, it gives automated a/b cut up trying out. It's miles vital in case your intention is to pressure sales and entice new customers. This mailerlite feature allows you to test now not handiest email content material and challenge lines however also absolutely extraordinary electronic mail designs. That helped me comprehend that my selected design became now not the finest. Via converting it i multiplied my conversion charge via 27%. How approximately that, constant touch? What else? Mailerlite is quite just like mailchimp: both are properly-designed, smooth to use and feature similar to features. But, i have located an critical function presented simplest with the aid of mailerlite. That, my buddies, is vehicle resend. There is usually a chance a subscriber did now not open an e-mail because of critical motives. In that case, he may pass for it if you use vehicle resend feature which sends a newsletter to folks who didn’t open it. Mailerlite might not have the most important template library but that isn't an trouble due to the fact that they have got such an easy drag & drop editor. Plus, each unmarried template is cell like minded. You could use a switch button and right away see how your publication appears on mobile. Cellular preview seems like the simplest function, yet it could save you from making important content and design errors. As i continuously use pix in my newsletters certainly one of my desired functions is a built-in photo editor – no want to shift to another software. In the intervening time, mailerlite is on the pinnacle of my alternatives list. Unlike mailchimp, mailerlite gives autoresponders feature in unfastened plans. Come what may with these kinds of features they nonetheless preserve the bottom rate and have a wide selection of pricing plans that could basically in shape all people’s wishes. It absolutely fulfils mine for now. Of direction, there's continually room for development. Verdict: green light for mailerlite. Aweber: yes, no, maybe so
mailchimp alternative? Perhaps. If you are not a layout man or woman it can be a good start. Aweber offers greater than 700 mobile responsive templates, but there's no cell preview. In case your commercial enterprise requires an character design enter, aweber isn't always my recommendation. You would possibly want to do some hacking on the way to modify templates as a result. Assist is generally not my factor, but for a few it's miles a important factor when you decide. Mailchimp falls at the back of extensively as compared to aweber’s guide. Aweber gives electronic mail, chat and speak to guide eight am-8 pm every day of the week while mailchimp has no guide totally free plans and can best be reached via e-mail and chat 8 am-6 pm in paid plans. In other phrases, they may dangle you out to dry. Hassle for mailchimp, applause for aweber. Although, mailerlite provides email, chat and phone assist 24/7. Verdict: even. Emma: after i think about lovely i think of emma
i hunt for layout. That’s how i discovered emma, sweet and current email marketing software program. It gives no longer as many templates as different e mail marketing software providers however in this case it’s high-quality over amount. Except, drag & drop editor is quite much like mailchimp’s. In case you are looking for some thing even more interesting, emma offers expert custom layout services for a honest rate. Another gain is its reporting capabilities. Actual-time analytics in pretty graphs are clean on the eyes also, emma has a unsolicited mail checking device that appears for words which might be interpreted as junk mail. I like beautiful but only lovely can’t closing a lifetime. I absolutely missed an automatic a/b trying out. Any other no longer that extremely good a part of emma is the fee. For the custom layout it's far adequate as you figure with a clothier. But, a monthly plan for management gear and templates is quite luxurious. Plus, in case you are keen to start your electronic mail advertising and marketing campaign proper after signing up, you may ought to delay it as emma lets you use its services most effective after making a non-public touch. Absolutely, emma is tremendous, but mailchimp doesn’t lag at the back of with its design. Equal stands for other functions, besides for a/b testing which isn't furnished by using emma. Verdict: hm…mailchimp. E-mail advertising and marketing software is sort of a sweet – maximum of them are candy, however you get to locate your personal flavor, guy. I am achieved looking for now. But, there are plenty of different mailchimp options. It honestly has its professionals. In spite of everything, mailchimp is dominant in the marketplace for a reason. Hopefully, you may find your Digital Marketing Agencies in Bath own favorite among these alternatives. It's far more efficient to paste to at least one option and invest your time and money. Too much sugar isn’t wholesome for every person, proper?

Annotated edition, Week in Ethereum News, April 5 issue
Listening to Fountain of Wayne’s Sky Full of Holes, which is unfortunately their last album because lead songwriter Adam Schlesinger died this week at age 52 from COVID19. Unappreciated genius.
For me, the big news of the week is that about 10 days ago I decided to leave ConsenSys:
I’ve been doing this newsletter for almost 4 years now, it seemed like the right time to make the jump.
My expectation is that the newsletter stays free, while this annotated version goes subscriber-only of some sort. Figuring out the pricing model isn’t super easy - I think the way to maximize revenue is to price quite high, but I don’t particularly want to do that. If I spend the time on this, I’d like it to be read more widely. My tentative pricing is $9 a month or $99 a year.
The bigger question is whether the main newsletter can stay free long-term. I’ve been doing this for a long time, and I mostly enjoy doing it it. But I strongly believe in listening when the market speaks.
Roughly speaking, the audience is the 15,000 most important people in Ethereum and web3. That strikes me as quite valuable, and it should be apparent that sponsors and ads will transparently take a more prominent position. Of course, surveillance capitalism has trained people to think that the only value to advertising is what they can track - which I think quite understates the value of this audience. There’s no other way to reach all the insiders, devs, investors, journalists, and power users in one place.
More on this in the future, but the bottom line is: if you like Week in Eth News being free, I hope you’ll check out the sponsors. If we do it right, the sponsors should be value add and worth your attention.
Here’s the most clicked this week
Gitcoin extended the CLR round, my grant is here. I’d love it if you put 11 somewhere after the decimal so I can track the donation to the annotated newsletter. 1 Dai currently gets matched 73 Dai.

Latest core devs call. Notes. Discussion of the curve used in eth2 (EIP2537), EVM subroutines (EIP2315), and reducing gas to call precompiles (EIP2046)

OpenEthereum has an initial alpha release
Updated tech tree on Stateless Ethereum – what’s needed for improved sync, witnesses, EVM changes, and binary trees
Gnosis is resuscitating the client formerly known as Parity as OpenEthereum, a welcome contribution to client diversity.
The Stateless Ethereum tech tree is an interesting exercise in decentralized ecosystem vs centralized VC coin.
If you talk to many of the VCs, they don’t believe in Ethereum’s decentralized ecosystem. They want large dev teams gathered in one central location under centralized leadership - hence all the VC coins with 9 figures to spend, but zero ways to deploy that capital effectively (nor do they even seem to try!) and zero community.
Ethereum isn’t like that. People show up and pitch in from all corners of the world. Often they start out making pull requests, and people see the quality of their contribution, then eventually they work their way into being a paid contributor. It’s decentralized, messy, and there’s often a lot of complaints from those who aren’t good enough to get funded full-time or fall through the cracks for a variety of reasons.
But it’s been working so far.

What is Zeropool? A privacy-first optimistic rollup that functions like a mixer. Next step: rewrite in Rust
Burner Wallet on Fuel’s rollup. Check it out on burner.fuel.sh
Dharma is doing a rollup chain with interstate, using the spec published on ethresearch
The emergent order of rollups is an interesting example of what I was talking about above. They’re all working out what their selling point is. Some are going after dexes (ie, loopring, idex, deversifi), payments (Dharma, Fuel), some privacy (Zeropool). That’s an extremely incomplete list, because I was pointing out the stuff from this week plus the stuff that’s live (loopring) or imminent.

RicMoo’s Rooted: deploy a contract and be able to arbitrarily update it. Screens of Austin Griffith playing with it on eth.build
RicMoo continues his exploration of CREATE2 magic. It’s still something that is underappreciated (possibly good, as users probably also need some education) in our ecosystem among devs.
Samczsun continues his reign of terror when he shows up in your discord/telegram/riot/it doesn’t matter. As predicted, he’s the clear winner of this round of Gitcoin grants. Fun fact: I was his first contributor during the CLR round.
Fortmatic’s magic link is pretty cool, and applicable outside of our relatively small web3 circle.

Livepeer’s opportunity in a socially distanced world
Every week I get to this section, and my first instinct is to count “DeFi or not?” This week it’s 5/11. That doesn’t include prediction markets - though of course that’s an arbitrary distinction. Defining the contours of DeFi isn’t easy.
Given the stresses on centralized video infrastructure, Livepeer looks like a prescient bet from Doug and Eric, and something where decentralization can really deliver unique value.
Also very cool to see Brave using Origin Protocol. We need more of this.
Tokens/Business/Regulation
Fat Brands bonds live on mainnet show how Ethereum will eat Wall Street’s settlement layer
USDC grows 50% in a month
Subcontext of USDC growing is that many folks moved to USDC because DSR went down to zero, plus liquidity crunch etc etc.
However, the interesting part about Maker adding USDC is that USDC ended up being quite symbiotic for Dai. While USDC seemed like a competitor (and is to some degree!), it turned out that there’s a symbiosis there that emergent order created in a way that a centralized planner would never have come up with.

I wonder how long CMC remains dominant. Having an exchange as an owner seems like untenable in the long-run. While their dominance is enshrined by Google, that depends on 1) links which may disappear now that it is owned by an exchange and 2) Goog’s (human thumb on the scales) algorithm.
One has to wonder whether Bitmain can extend their ASIC again with another firmware update?
Bump to OpenVDF, a very interesting open hardware collaboration.

✔ What others have to say about this course?
“I have been programming since 1978 and wanted to learn python. I have had no java or OOP experience, and I tried several ‘paper’ tutorials but got little out of them. The first part of this course is a steady walk through the Python language at just the right speed. The instructor seems to touch all the basis in a logical and methodical way while providing examples and explanations. I can only conclude the instructor is a professional educator who spent considerable time structuring and organizing the course. The result is evident. THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO LEARN PYTHON!” by Larry Laswell
“I’ve tried learning from the books & multiple videos – most were too basic to make a practical app. Some books were too thick and made me sleep. But still none of the materials had the perfect balance like this course where all the basics were covered, instructions were concise, and Mihai walks you through how to create 7 practical apps step by step. I’ve also tried reading some advanced python book which didn’t make sense because it was too advanced. Let me tell you, this is hands down “that course that takes you up to beyond the basics” to bridge you to the advance topics. Right now I’m hitting the advanced topics and it finally makes sense…” by Joon Park
“Usually I’m not doing courses review but this time I will make an exception. During time I took a lot of trainings but very few provided by Udemy proved as having the right approach in teaching the audience. I will mark this one as being one of my personal top three best trainings as content’s quality, technical explanations, and additional learning materials perspective. Long story short this course is a very simple, straight forward way of learning Python for managing IT networks.” by Johnny Stanescu
“This is a great course for network engineers who would like to start automating their tasks. Geared towards beginners, this course teaches the fundamentals of programming and applying those concepts to networking. There is a lot of fluff about python on the internet, however the instructor managed to put together the necessary information to start automating the network. A working knowledge of TCP/IP is needed to get the most out of this course. Should you understand every lecture, you will be ready to start writing your own scripts according to your needs. In particular, I loved the use of scapy, an amazing tool which should be in the arsenal of anyone working with TCP/IP.” by Costin-Alin Neacsu
“I’ve seen the blueprint and some demo videos and I was convinced right away. Without a doubt, it’s one of the best trainings a network engineer can have. It gives you actual valuable and marketable skills that you can use in your daily job. Mihai explains the topics really well, with practical examples making it a fun way to learn. Highly recommended.” by Vlad Vlaicu

You don’t need to know all the crazy things Excel can do to be a top performer at you job. Even with web apps and the software as a service (SaaS) business model being prevalent as they are, Excel is still used in today’s businesses. Sometimes these expensive web based businesses don’t scale very well to a specific calculation or forecast. Being able to whip up something quickly can be the difference in the perception of job performance. A great example of this is something that happened at one of my jobs: I was tasked to show the stats of blocked and allowed emails that were processed by our email filtering system. This system had built-in reporting capabilities but it didn’t present the data very well. So I imported the data in Excel, separated it nicely, and added charts and graphs. After I setup the data sheet I added another sheet that predicted the amount of emails in each category that would be received within the next 60 days. Not only was this report a hit with my boss and other management, but I was able to communicate expertise that management didn’t even know I had. This report opened the opportunity to jump pay grades - all this from spending a little extra time in an Excel. The point is Excel is more than a simple office program that runs your home budget. Knowing Excel can be beneficial in your professional career. And I’ll teach you the basics of Excel in this course. I designed this basic Excel course to be easily understood by absolute beginners. At the end of the course you will understand how to identify and navigate pieces of Excel, how the formula creation process works, how to use popular math and stat functions, and how to use the diagnostic functions to help solve those pesky errors. Going Long When a financier goes long - that is, enters a contract by agreeing to get as well as purchase delivery of the underlying at a set rate - it indicates that she or he is aiming to make money from an expected future price boost. Let's claim that, with a preliminary margin of $2,000 in June, Joe the speculator acquires one September contract of gold at $350 per ounce, for a total amount of 1,000 ounces or $350,000. By buying in June, Joe is going long, with the expectation that the price of gold will climb by the time the contract ends in September. By August, the cost of gold boosts by $2 to $352 per ounce as well as Joe makes a decision to market the contract in order to understand an earnings. The 1,000 ounce agreement would now be worth $352,000 and also the profit would be $2,000. Provided the really high take advantage of (bear in mind the preliminary margin was $2,000), by going long, Joe made a 100% revenue! Of program, the reverse would certainly hold true if the price of gold per ounce had actually fallen by $2. The speculator would certainly have understood a 100% loss. It's also vital to keep in mind that while that Joe held the contract, the margin could have gone down listed below the maintenance margin level. He would, consequently, have actually needed to react to numerous margin calls, leading to an also larger loss or smaller profit. Going Short A speculator who goes brief - that is, becomes part of a futures contract by accepting sell and supply the underlying at a set price - is looking to earn a profit from declining cost degrees. By selling high now, the agreement can be redeemed in the future at a lower cost, hence generating a profit for the speculator. Allow's say that Sara did some research and also came to the verdict Academy Day Trading that the price of oil was going to decline over the following six months. She could offer a contract today, in November, at the present higher price, and purchase it back within the next six months after the price has actually decreased. This approach is called going short as well as is utilized when speculators make the most of a decreasing market. Expect that, with an initial margin down payment of $3,000, Sara offered one May petroleum agreement (one agreement amounts 1,000 barrels) at $25 per barrel, for an overall value of $25,000. By March, the cost of oil had gotten to $20 per barrel and also Sara felt it was time to cash money in on her profits. She bought back the agreement which was valued at $20,000. By going short, Sara earned a profit of $5,000! Once more, if Sara's research had actually not been detailed, and also she had made a various decision, her technique can have finished in a big loss. 6. Driving with Uber
Being an Uber driver is simple and fun.
Drive with Uber and have the freedom to work when you choose.
Even if you’re among the less tech-savvy of us, you’ll be fine.
Driving with Uber is rewarding and convenient.
Drive for Uber – How It Works
Uber will provide you with a phone, complete with the driver app.
Simply accept a ride when a request pops up, and get started!
Pick up your passenger and confirm your arrival.
The app will automatically charge the rider when the ride is completed.
When driving for Uber you can rate your riders after each ride.
Ratings range from one to five stars.
You won’t be paired again with a rider you’ve rated three stars or below.
Maintain an Active Account
Maintaining your account as active status is quite easy!
Just make sure to accept at least one trip every 30 days.
You can still drive as often as you’d like, of course.
This is just a minimum to make sure their fleet of drivers is active.
Uber Insurance Coverage
Uber provides a very comprehensive insurance package to protect their drivers as well as their passengers.
Some of the benefits include:
$1 million of liability coverage per incident.
This is active from when a driver accepts a ride until it concludes.
Also…
$1 million of uninsured/underinsured motorist bodily injury coverage per incident.
When does this come into play?
An example: If another motorist were to cause an accident with an uberX vehicle, but doesn’t carry adequate insurance.
This policy would cover any bodily injury to all occupants of the vehicle.
And…
Contingent comprehensive and collision insurance.
What if I already have my own personal insurance?
In that case, this policy covers physical damage to that vehicle that occurs during a trip.
This would be up to the actual cash value of the vehicle, for any reason, with a $1,000 deductible.
In addition…
$50,000/$100,000/$25,000 of contingent coverage between trips.
This is an additional policy that covers Uber drivers during the time when they’re available but between trips.
Of course, being a contingent plan, this would only pay if the personal auto insurance declines or pays zero.
Metromile offers intriguing insurance which is tailored for rideshare drivers.
You may want to check out what they have to offer for Uber insurance.
7. Uber Driver App
Using the Uber driver app is essential if you want to drive with Uber.
The Uber driver app is your portal to getting pickups and navigation instructions to your destination.
As a driver, you’ll have the option to accept or decline a ride for a variety of reasons.
youtube
You don’t want to decline to many rides because Uber may deactivate your account.
You need to treat passengers well if you want to get positive feedback and continue driving for Uber.
The Uber driver app is easy to use and understand after just a few pick-ups.
How to Become an UBER Driver Q&A
Everyone has questions!
Take a peek at some of these common ones, and we hope it helps.
If you have additional questions then we suggest visiting the official FAQ for drivers.
How is my rating calculated?
Following each completed trip, riders are given the opportunity to rate his or her experience out of five stars. Your rating is comprised of an average of the last 500 ratings from completed trips.
How are my acceptance rates calculated?
This is a percentage of the number of rides you accept out of those that are sent to you while online in driver mode. You should maintain a minimum of an 80% acceptance rate to keep your account active.
Can I use my own phone while driving for Uber, or do I have to use the one they provide for me?
Yes, you can use your own phone instead of Uber’s. But make sure you return the device provided to avoid the monthly rental fee!
