can I get the "too much communication" with jack?
I think that's what your last post was for 😭
shut up (with affection!) | jh86
sum: in which jack likes to hear himself talk
prompt: too much communication (💀)
warnings: smut, angst, fluff ☺️ use of y/n :/ ,use of she/her pronouns for reader, short
wc: 908
a/n: help yes, im sorry i wasn’t clear with what i wanted but if you haven’t noticed im pretty small on hockeyblr 😔 so i didn’t think anyone would actually ask but omg so happy you did ❤️ also not sure why im seeing this decades later.
LIGHT shone through the curtains in Y/N’s bedroom, though that wasn’t what woke her up.
An arm was slung across her waist, legs were tangled with hers, a face was buried in the crevice of her neck, and soft lips were moving up and down her shoulder. She felt something go off in her stomach. She could get used to this.
“Awake, angel?” Jack’s rough morning voice reached Y/N’s ears and could’ve just melted right then. He had been with her for close to ten months now; meaning they had practically moved in with eachother, she was at every home game, he was at every soccer match, she had a drawer at his, he had a toothbrush at hers. They were slowly intertwining in each other’s lives and neither of them wanted to stop anytime soon.
And then he started.
The endless rambling that half annoyed, half endeared Y/N.
“Wait no- I mean that I should use a different word instead of pretty because you’re so many things and you like when i use long words, don’t you ? I should-”
“Jack, my love, slow down,” Y/N says, facing him and cupping his cheek. His hair is tousled, eyes droopy, bottom lip jutted out, and brows furrowed. He’s shirtless and the sunlight bathes him in a soft golden light. Her heart skips a beat as she assures him that complimenting her in any way would melt her even if it was the same thing, every day, for the rest of their lives.
The room was dark and hot and the bed rocked with Jack’s movements. He had one hand loose around Y/N’s throat and the other supporting her leg that was thrown over his shoulder.
It was all going fine until
“Y’know what Trev told me the other day.”
Y/N’s eyes snapped open. What the fuck???
His hair was falling in his eyes and a thin sheet of sweat covered his body. He looked so good and was doing so well.
“Jack? What-” she stopped short when he thrusted particularly roughly making her jaw drop and her eyes roll to the back of her head. Jack wasn’t phased though.
“He- told me how-oh fuck I’m so close, baby-” Y/N quickly shut him up by yanking his mouth down to hers. She really didn’t want to hear how fucking Zegras did whatever in her current position.
Y/N stood off to the side as Jack abruptly wraps up the post game interview after giving curt responses. She raised her eyebrows; normally it could get hard to not make him overshare.
Jack had already showered and changed into a delicious suit that was for sure coming off as soon as they got home.
“Hi, angel.” Y/N got on her tip toes to press a soft kiss against Jack’s lips. He wrapped his arms around her and sighed, pulling back and resting his forehead against hers. “Hey.”
It was short and quiet and so unlike Jack (even after a loss) and she hated it.
“Baby, what’s wrong?” Y/N reached forward to cup his cheek and lightly caresses it with her thumb. He leans against her hand and his eyes droop.
“Nothin’, sweets. Just tired.” Y/N knew there had to be more, she could tell by the way his fingers were fiddling with eachother and the almost unnoticeable clinch of his eyebrows.
“C’mon, baby, talk to me,” Y/N softly murmurs, Jack’s new behavior doesn’t feel natural at all. He was so full of energy all the time (definitely because of the three hour naps) that she didn’t even have to match it if she was tired; he had enough for both of them.
“D’you-,” he pauses and steps back, removing his arms from her and running a quick hand through his hair. “Do you think I talk too much? Or I over share? Does it bother you?” His brows furrow deeper and Y/N’s heart stutters. She understood why he got so closed off all of a sudden. Her tough, strong boyfriend had such a sweet heart she could cry.
“Oh hon, well yes you do but it’s never bothered me. I actually really love it. You’re able to talk so much all the time and there’s nothing I love more than the sound of your voice.” Y/N watches as Jack’s expression softens. She steps closer and weaves her arms around him from the inside of his suit jacket.
“I love that you’re so expressive. I love how you just say anything no matter, I love how-” Y/N pauses. The three words dancing on the tip of her tongue, waiting and anticipating. She takes a deep breath and sneaks a glance at Jack, who had the hint of a smile that reached his eyes.
“I love you.”
He goes limp in her arms.
“Y/N I-”
“One second. Let me finish.” Y/N steps back and fully looks into his eyes. “And I know you love me too. You know why, angel? Because you tell me every single day. Every sweet nothing, all the random babbling about how I’m so sweet to you at any given time, gave me enough courage to say it right now.”
Jack looked like he could cry; Y/N didn’t get the chance to see it though, because of the soul crushing hug he just pulled her into.
“I love you so much more.”
“I might get dry as fuck during sex though.”
“Yeah? Wanna take me up on that?”

(tag game)
tagged by @eliooliver83 and @oetter mwah love u both kisses
Tell me about:
1. The thing that got you hooked on hockey
oghhh long story for Sure. i became like. distantly enamored with it watching the bruins with my dad/brother during the 2010-11 playoffs like that and soccer were the only sports i could bother watching. then in 2019? i re-read check please, became obsessed with it on that read through, started following the players some characters were based off of - namely sid and segs. then segs lead me down a path of delusion and insanity forever. so like. either the 2011 bruins cup run, check please, or tyler seguin.
2. Your first ever fandom friend
was trying to think of tumblr moots but ! technically predates my hockeyblr era by a couple yrs. met @stickypucky through. s. stephen johns discord/minecraft server. in 2020! i think!
3. The jersey you would most like to own
it feels sacrilegious that i dont own a roope or robo or otter jersey?? so any of theirs. Need. would also kill for a mooterus jersey sorry that design fucked
4. YOUR player (you only get ONE so choose wisely)
if i said anyone other than miro i think i would collapse dead.
5. A pairing that deserves more fic
listen. i agree with 2124. u all might expect me to say 424. however. i would pay the first person to write 455 or 42455 a billion dollars. i need harls hero worship turning into "oh hes a bitch and i like him so much" ness. i would cry tears of joy .
6. Your favourite on-ice moment
OKAY . niche roopemiro moment i am abt to throw at u. first thing that came to mind was when they had a FLOP ASS zone entry moment and miro just barrels straight into brick wall roope and they have to giggle abt it from last season. it was one of my first gifs and ik there are better sets of it but. here's mine. sooo pathetic and stupid and uncharacteristic of their perfectly in sync asses.
THEN
link someone else's art/fic/etc that you love & think everyone should check out
first of all everything stars hyacinthed has written i hold sooo deep in my heart especially the 1053 fics. I have crawled out of my hole long enough to go “huh looks like hockeyblr is doing another round of head hits bad and dops useless” discourse. The last time we did this was *checks notes* round 1 of this year’s playoffs (I fully checked out in rounds 2 and 3 so maybe we did it there too). Before that was about six months ago. Before that was the start of the season. Before that last years playoffs. It’s almost like hockey has a cyclical and structural problem with allowing head hits and not punishing people via the department of player safety and of course let’s not forget the maximum possible fine under the CBA.
I’ve been saying for several years now both that any head contact should be illegal/an automatic penalty at minimum (even accidental contact!!!) and that the teams that make it far in the playoffs seem to be whichever teams can injure/concuss the opposing star players until they can’t play through the injury. Hockey has a culture problem around injury, player safety, and what teams are willing to do in the name of winning it all (both personally re: injury and to the other team). So long as any head contact is acceptable within the game of hockey there is nothing that will stop players from doing head hits when frustrated or when it’s simply easier to take a player out of the game. There is not team or player that is excluded from this. The sport is dirty and as long as it continues to support and reward headhunting and violence this will not change

if you're naturally this mean I would consider taking more time off hockeyblr.
I... I would say this would help but it won't. It's like a muscle you have to stretch it and I've spent the last month refusing to deal with people that I have to be nice to. This drama that I've started proves to me that I have spent too much time not stretching that muscle.
Being kind is a choice that I have to make, it's difficult and it's hard and it's annoying but it's so much better than this. And honestly I'm perfectly fine with being the bad guy right now because I deserve it because I decided not to be kind when I should have been earlier.
Me being mean is not going to stop or go away, and everything y'all have seen of me being nice and kind and welcoming has been me making the choice of doing that day in and day out.

hi! so i saw your post regarding vince and i just wanted to throw in my two cents:
as much as i love him and he is one of my favorite players, i don’t excuse what he did and i held him accountable for it when it was first revealed.
now i’m not black or a poc, so it’s not my place to speak about or over what is deemed racist or not. people have the right to feel however they wanna feel about certain individuals. but i believe that there is a difference between calling someone “racist” or “ignorant”. vince in this case was ignorant.
another thing i have a problem with are with people who try to fuel their agenda with false claims. i’ve seen people say that vince allegedly got people watching his streams to go after the person who called him out after that, but nobody ever clipped that part of the livestream and posted it. someone also said that vince allegedly made racist jokes in that same live, which again was not clipped or shared. only the part where he was singing the song was clipped and shared, why not those other alleged incidents?? and people also tried to mistake him with completely different player of the same name who got suspended in the junior leagues for using a racial slur towards an opponent.
like i said, i’m NOT justifying/defending what he did. but what i’m saying is that i also wanna bring up people who wanna treat this instance like it’s a trend and only use it to gain brownie points, when in reality, it does more harm than good.
Hi anon,
Thank you for the constructive criticism and for expressing how you feel. However, I have a few thoughts on what you said.
First of all, I mentioned in my post that I didn’t see the actual video of the stream at the time it was more widely available so I don’t have that direct evidence besides what I saw that other people have said (I also used the term “allegedly” in my post too because I don’t have direct access to that evidence if it exists) and like I mentioned in the post, I found out about it a year after it happened. As I mentioned in my post, I did not say or claim or imply that Vince is/was a racist for using the word (I only used that term because it involves the use of a racial slur and I know someone would probably accuse me of accusing him of being one if I never mentioned it originally) and yes, he should be held accountable for his ignorant behavior. (This is also a different type of ignorance though because Vince is old enough to know that singing racial slurs, even if it’s in songs you like by artists you love, isn’t cool at all. It would completely different if he somehow had no idea the true harm behind that word). Being held accountable does not mean that people should dismiss what he did and act like he didn’t do anything wrong because he won’t face actual punishment for it.
Another thing you mentioned in your comment to me is that you “held him accountable for it when it was first revealed” but I wonder if you still hold him accountable now or if you don’t hold him as accountable anymore because as you stated, you love him and he’s one of your favorite players.(tense does matter)
Second, I’m not treating calling Vince out like a trend because he’s been popular on hockeyblr for years (I used to really, really like him a lot for a few months and obviously was devastated when I found out) but as I mentioned in my post, the only reason I brought it up is because I’ve seen an uptick in posts about Vince and wanted to bring it up so that other people would know or to remind those who forgot. If you were on here in 2021 and were invested into hockeyblr like that, you would know that after this incident was exposed, people slowly stopped talking about him for some time but once Seattle started getting good in 2022 and beyond, Vince became popular again (of course, this uptick also goes in hand with him being talked about on TikTok and Twitter/X too) and I never really heard anyone mention this incident again anywhere. This whole incident got swept under the rug; all I ever saw were posts about how hot he is, more fics and imagines about him, how he’s playing well with Seattle and some contract stuff.
It’s also funny to me that you said that people are treating it like a trend as if calling out people for any sort of problematic behavior is a brand new thing online but guess what? there are no brownie points or kudos gained for doing such a thing. If there is, let me know where I can get that because I’ve never gotten any. Calling someone out actually helps in a sense by preventing people from being fully ignorant of someone else’s wrongful behavior (how were we supposed to know any of this happened if no one ever said anything about it? Imagine how foolish it makes fans, especially those who are from marginalized or non-traditional groups, look when their fav did something that may have hurt the group those marginalized or non-traditional fans or their peers belong to). The concept of “more harm than good” goes both ways too. It does more harm than good to support problematic behavior because there’s nothing gained from supporting that type of behavior and all it does is show that people tolerate/support harmful things to benefit themselves and their emotions (don’t try to tell me that a person you like doesn’t have some sort of impact on your feelings) and it shows the people that were affected by those harmful things don’t really matter.
Finally, I’m not fueling some agenda by because if I was, I wouldn’t have shared my opinion and said way worse things about Vince and the people who like him. Again, my post is about education, accountability and my opinion of what happened. Like I had mentioned in my post, you’re entitled to your opinion and point of view on this and I respect it, even if I don’t like it.

totally normal and not convoluted necessary background information
in about 2016-17 we were preparing for a new franchise to enter the NHL; that is, vegas was getting a team, where no team previously existed. that meant the Knights existed as like, a concept, before they played any games OR, importantly, had any actual players under contract
most of their roster would be formed at an event called the expansion draft. before then, they could sign players, but only ones who weren't yet associated with any other NHL team. this meant they didn't sign many players before the expansion draft.
after they signed their first player, and proceeded to. not sign any more for a while. there was a lot of joking about the One Knight
it is a pretty ubiquitous hockey tradition for, pre-game, players to get together in a group and kick a ball around to collectively keep it in the air as long as possible. this is frequently documented for social media these days, e.g. you'll see clips of players doing this on snap chat or insta stories or whatever
the Knights social media decided to poke fun at themselves by producing a video of their One guy acting like he was abt to start a game. and kicking the ball in the air and it dribbles sadly away as no one is there to catch it
i found this very funny
on tumblr at the time people frequently made powerpoint presentation style posts to convince people to check out the things they're a fan of. usually they are not very serious
hockeyblr specifically would do this to be like "heres why you should cheer for [my team]." hockeyblr powerpoints tended to mostly consist of humourously profiling the Big Name players on said team
it occurred to me that it would be really funny to do one of those for a team that only had One Player to profile
i double checked his name immediately before opening photoshop
i proceeded to make the duke reid powerpoint
i posted the duke reid powerpoint
everything happened.
if someone ever asks me what's the funniest thing i've ever done my mind is always gonna go to when i made the duke reid powerpoint, however the humour of that is not something that anyone is gonna understand unless they're familiar with a highly specific moment in hockey tumblr culture in 2017

i said yesterday on twitter (and i guess i wanna express the sentiment here as well b/c idk it explains how i approach ~all this~) that how i experience hockey is like this:
i consume hockey the way howl swallowed the shooting star. i see these beautiful, funny, bizarre little threads of narratives skipping across the surface of the nhl fandom landscape and i shove them down my throat and hold them deep in my chest. and at the very least it gives me a way to feel my feelings (because not all my hockey feelings are entirely about hockey, not most of my hockey feelings are entirely about hockey; not most of anyone's feelings are entirely about where or what they're expressing them through. humans transmute things. it's what we do)
and sometimes, if the lil creature that ate my heart & came out of my chest has been satisfied, the star bits i swallowed get to become something fun -- video edits, fic, memes, photoshops, doodles, fanart, or even just me shooting the shit and sharing ideas & opinions
idk if y'all need to understand that about me or how i hockey blog. but expressing it this way is helping me puzzle myself out
#i've been on a slow burn identity crisis revolving around my career and my family and health for about a year now#it got a lot worse the past couple months or at least a lot less managed#and leaning into hockeyblr & twitter has given me some semblance of figuring myself out by transmuted processing#it is very hard for me to to process my life shit just on its own bc a lot of it is just so out of my hands#and a lot of my coping mechanisms or support systems have collapsed in the past 2 years due to covid#i hope i am fun & interesting & kind for y'all but i think i also need to own that i should be feeling my emotions for myself#idk i was Really Tired yesterday but it also let me just not keep my wall up for a couple hours#i think things are getting better slowly but more definitively#there was at least for sure one huge concrete resolution to a family problem yesterday. and it is only step one but damn it's done#also hello i am a miyazaki nerd. also still very in love with magical girls at 30yo. they're so comforting to me#i've been bouncing an idea about magical girls + hockey. but idk how i'd want to execute it or in what way#i think i wanna draw something but idk what. i also legitimately wanna revisit my 'redraw pride jerseys' idea#it'll happen i think. i finally started sewing again. it's been 2 months since i last picked up a project but i'm doing it again#also puzzling through my next video project. think i just wanna clear my vault of unused canucks clips first#thinking i'll either use a sylvan esso track or a half alive track bc those bands have been where my mood has been#aily talks#narratives

Hello! Your addition to the ari post was rlly enlightening. As someone who is Asian from Asia, I’d like to know more about the usage behind yellowface beyond caricaturization in media. Could you point me to some lit about it? Tried finding some online but to no success…
hi, anon! i’m glad my comment brought you to looking into it more.
tbh, it’s been a little bit since i’ve had access to lit about specifically yellowface (the last i learned/researched specifically about it was in undergrad, which was nearly a decade now)
so as a starter, here’s the short blurb about it from the wiki page (link):
Tumblr media
and some of the most pertinent sources referenced in that wiki article:
"Yellowface: Asians on White Screens"
Vanishing Son: The Appearance, Disappearance, and Assimilation of the Asian-American Man in American Mainstream Media
"Monitoring Asians in the American mass media"
separately, there is also the specific page: Examples of yellowface, which also has sources that can be read through. since they're in response to specific instances of yellowface, none of these are likely to go deeply in depth but many will likely include explanations of what constitutes yellowface & some history of yellowface.
for a general look at physical appropriation of cultures of color, google "my culture is not a costume" -- this is a phrase originated in use by many universities in the late 2000s through early 2010s (when i was in undergrad) to discuss how often yellow/black/red/brown-face was (maybe still is? again, i'm not in academia or undergrad anymore) used in american college partying culture. it caught enough steam that teen vogue also did a series of videos discussing it and there's also several articles by major american news sources discussing it across the years. it appears the first majorly reported use of the concept was by ohio university.
another good starter resource on asian american discrimination in general, who has often discussed the rift between how asian stereotypes affect diasporic (usually american) asians vs asians in asia: Angry Asian Man — the blog/website (link) & the twitter (link). phil yu (the blogger) tends to approach things with a lot of humor, which sometimes lacks nuance, but is an approachable resource
finally, i think an important thing to note here, which i only slightly discussed in my original comment -- the term yellowface (like blackface, brownface, redface, etc. b/c these terms are all linked to how poc have been portrayed in usually north american & european cultures) was originally meant to specifically reference portrayals of east asians (And southeast, i'd argue, since ppl tend to act like viet/thai/khmer/lao/indo/filipino/hmong/etc ppl are just a subcategory of east asians) in media, usually film & stage. this is where we'd have to have a more thorough discussion about the impact of media portrayal in how actual people treat other everyday people in their lives. it's also harder to find specific literature on that, because the average person isn't academically documenting all media they consume & how that therefore impacts their treatment of others, or even how that affects their concepts of self -- recent academic scholarship has started shifting towards considering how the dominance of whiteness as central to the american experience creates an inherent egotism to whiteness, even without direct racist depictions of poc. ie whiteness in media essentially proliferates white 'main character syndrome', to borrow from current memes. And then, building further on that, the average person whose idea of fun involves trying to dress up as other (stereotyped) cultures, isn't about to be a willing participant in being studied or documented for actual academic research. bc trying to convince them to talk about it points out that what they're doing is possibly a source of negative attention, which then leads to them doing everything to detach themselves from the act -- i have personal first-hand experience with this, since my undergrad focus of study was in the history of racism in the united states (focus mainly in the early to mid 1900s, roughly world war one to civil rights movement)
i hope this helps you with things to read or can act as some starting points to learn more! if any of this also leads you to further questions or down into different related topics, totally feel free to check in 😊

Hi hockeyblr! We have NHL hockey today! With the first preseason game starting tonight, I think we should keep some reminders in mind: -Don't crosstag! This is general tumblr etiquette (and if I remember correctly also against Tumblr TOS as a whole!) but I'm putting it out there just in case!
-Not every person who cheers for a team you hate is your enemy. Not every person who cheers for a player you hate is your enemy. Trash talk is fine (and encouraged!), but harassment isn't. This isn't Twitter! Be kind (or atleast classy) to everyone- yes, even those 'stinky' bruins fans and hawks fans that yall like to dog on so much. --Additionally, don't go to team lb tags and comment hate on said team. That just makes you an asshole.
-Tags and filters exist for a reason; USE THEM. Tag anything that needs to be tagged, and filter out stuff you don't like!
--Additionally, if someone doesn't have anything tagged (ex. injuries not tagged, smut not tagged, etc), kindly tell them to tag it. If they refuse, block them! Remember: Don't like, don't look! --STOP CENSORING PLAYERS/TEAM NAMES L*KE TH*S (like this). Not only does it fuck with tag filters, but it's also not helpful for people who use screenreaders. (See also: This post which goes into more detail on this subject). -As stated above, the block button also exists for a reason; USE IT. -Live blog tags (lb for short) stay separate from regular team tags! Lb tags should be used during games or other events (like the draft, all star game or free agency).
-I feel like we could all use this, especially with the events of the offseason and last season (and prior seasons tbh): Someone not knowing or posting about a serious event does not mean that they don't care about said event. You don't have to speak on every bad thing that occurs in hockey! I know I complain a lot about hockey fans and their hypocrisy when it comes to discussing issues with hockey culture, but at the same time I want people to focus on themselves and their health too! <3
-You don't have to know about everything a player thinks or does! You also don't have to know about every single problematic thing a player has done/said. If we knew every single negative trait about every player, none of us would be here lol. -Whatever happens on Tumblr (Or AO3 if you write fic), STAYS THERE. We don't need a repeat of the Booktok incident. -While block buttons do exist, it's also not hard to say "Hey maybe saying this isn't cool" to a mutual when they say something really fucking bigoted. -DON'T. WISH. INJURY. ON. PLAYERS (Or celebrate injury!). Yes, even if said player is a shitty human being. Again, this isn't Twitter.
-Lastly, just have fun! Just chill and argue about who's the best player!

Right, so a few weeks ago I talked about transphobia on hockey tumblr, which is a topic that’s very important to me as a trans man, but I’ve also noticed that no one really talks about another topic that is also important to me, which is homophobia on hockey tumblr.
I’m going to preface this by saying this is from the POV of a trans mlm. I won’t speak on the experiences a wlw or queer nb person goes through in fandom, because I don’t have that knowledge, and I don’t want to act like I do. I’m a queer man, and that’s the lens I’m using. I’m also saying this about hockey tumblr, but it can be applied to every fandom.
Before I begin, I should make note: a lot of folks don’t realise they’re being homophobic, which is a huge reason this conversation needs to be had. It’s important to remember that no queer person owes you this conversation, though, so don’t just assume your queer friends want to ‘teach you’ things that you can easily google.
So.
Queer people in any space that is predominantly cishet will automatically experience that space differently. That’s just a fact, because queer people experience things differently to cishet people. Plain and simple. If I read a post, or see a gifset, I will automatically view it in a different way; not necessarily in a better way, not necessarily in a worse way. Just a different way.
Another indisputable fact: homophobia exists, and it exists in fandom. Every fandom, including hockey tumblr. Again, plain and simple.
And another indisputable fact, hockeyblr is mostly cis(het) females, whose experiences will always be different to mine and other queer people.
A lot of people on hockey tumblr think ‘oh, this is a safe space away from the dudebro hockey fans that yell slurs’, which yes! I’d rather be here than on twitter any day of the week! But hockey tumblr isn’t the ‘safe haven’ for queer people that y’all try to say it is. Maybe I’m not getting called slurs (I mean, I am getting called slurs), but that doesn’t make it a 100% safe space.
My attraction to men will always be treated differently than a cishet female’s attraction to men. Even if you don’t mean to, my attraction will always be seen as more sexual and - I’m quoting - ‘creepy’. ‘It’s creepy that you’re attracted to a straight man’. Even if someone doesn’t mean to, my attraction will always be seen as more sexual and on occasion - too many occasions - borderline if not overtly predatory.
Another huge part of the hockey fandom is RPF, which is a very very polarizing issue that I will only touch on objectively. If your reason for hating RPF is ‘it’s creepy to ship real people’, that’s valid. But if your reason goes past that, into the 'making this person gay is gross', I hate to break it to you… That's homophobia!
There's also rampant fetishization of slash ships, as well as the idea that queer ships are automatically going to be seen as needing a higher rating, which again. Most people don't realise they're doing it. That fits into the 'queer love and attraction is seen as inherently more sexual that cishet love and attraction' that I mentioned above. A fic with a cishet couple making out will most likely be rated G; the same with a queer couple will most likely be rated T. That’s something most people don’t think about or don’t consider when a queer person mentions homophobia in fandom.
As always, I’ve started to ramble a little.
To sum up: a queer person’s attraction is not automatically more sexual or predatory than a cishet’s. If someone’s reason for not liking same gender ships is that it’s ‘gross’ or ‘creepy’ or ‘impossible that they’re queer’ - that’s homophobia. Fetishizing slash ships is homophobia. You’re not immune to homophobia because you’re marginalised, too.
Also, if cishets could please stop joking about how someone’s a ‘twink’ or how someone is ‘obviously a bottom’ I would appreciate that! Those aren’t your jokes to make, nor can you even fathom what you mean!
Feel free to reblog.

hockey is still not for everyone
putting this under a cut cus it’s going to be long.
the latest news from the HDA, basically confirming what we already knew, that the NHL will not be signing their pledge that they asked them to back in, i think, June. the HDA will continue to work separately from the NHL.
so, this really fucking sucks, honestly. it’s not surprising in the least bit, but i’m still not ready to just give up.
first off. here’ a reminder of the HDA’s Pledge, and here’s where you can buy their merch (they now have Ally merch as well which is cool), and here’s where you can make direct donations if you’d like.
that being said, i’d like to take a moment to look at the NHL’s own initiative “hockey is for everyone” so here’s what hockey is for everyone is SUPPOSED to do:
“Across the league throughout the year, the NHL and NHLPA work to provide the sport in a positive environment for players, families and fans of every race, colour, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, socio-economic status and for those with disabilities.”
Each NHL team has a hockey is for everyone ambassador who “All have pledged to be leaders in the locker room and in the community” Well, I think it’s pretty clear most, if not all of these ambassadors aren’t doing shit. So who are they? It’s probably important we know, at least I think it is. These are the guys in EACH team who have specifically said they’re going to set a standard, so they should be held accountable for that standard.
Anaheim Ducks - John Gibson
Arizona Coyotes - Oliver Ekman Larsson (may likely be traded)
Boston Bruins - Brad Marchand
Buffalo Sabres - Brandon Montour
Calgary Flames - Austin Czarnik
Carolina Hurricanes - Trevor van Riemsdyk
Chicago Blackhawks - Connor Murphy
Colorado Avalanche - Colin Wilson (this guy is barely even on the team)
Columbus Blue Jackets - Seth Jones
Dallas Stars - John Klingberg
Detroit Red Wings - Justin Abdelkader
Edmonton Oilers - Jujhar Khaira
Florida Panthers - Frank Vatrano
Los Angeles Kings - Tyler Toffoli
Minnesota Wild - Currently no one
Montreal Canadiens - Max Domi (welp, not anymore lol)
Nashville Predators - Currently no one
New Jersey Devils - Currently no one
NY Islanders - Matt Martin
NY Rangers - Mika Zibanejad
Ottawa Senators - Mark Borowiecki
Philadelphia Flyers - Scott Laughton/Travis Konecny (unclear who is current)
Pittsburgh Penguins - Matt Murray (rip, not anymore)
San Jose Sharks - Evander Kane
St. Louis Blues - Ryan O'Reilly
Tampa Bay Lightning - Mathieu Joseph
Toronto Maple Leafs - Zach Hyman
Vancouver Canucks - Alex Edler
Vegas Golden Knights - Brayden McNabb
Washington Capitals - Braden Holtby
Winnipeg Jets - Nikolaj Ehlers
Let’s note a couple things:
1. 5 of 31 teams don’t even have a representative (two because of trades, but three didn’t have one during last season)
2. Some of these guys (Seth Jones and Max Domi and Brad Marchand for instance) are terrible humans that clearly don’t uphold this standard anywhere, much less in the locker room or on the ice
3. Evander Kane, while a cofound of HDA himself, is also a terrible human who have harassed women and actively hate women of color.
4. Many of these guys were inside of the bubble, yet still had to be prompted by people like Ryan Reeves to act to strike games for two days.
What’s the point of pointing all this out? Really, just to show you how much of a joke this “hockey is for everyone” initiative is. It’s clearly not something the NHL takes seriously, or something most of these guys take seriously. Pride nights are cool, and support of pride or of POC players is all fine and dandy if they’re actually backed up with actions, and as we clearly see both through their empty performative allyship within the bubble and in their lack of support of the HDA pledge, there are no actions to back up this initiative. None that are going to radically change the racism that is built within this sport at least.
Unfortunately, I was unable to find a way to directly contact local teams (like through email or something) so if you know of a way to do so, please let me know. Ultimately the only way the NHL is going to change anything is by hearing it from the fans. We are a minority of people here on hockeyblr that want to see a difference happen, and it’s sad but it’s true. The only way we’re going to see change is if we’re heard.
While I DO NOT advocate you going and harassing the above players, I linked their twitter profiles (if available AND if they are active) so that you could KINDLY express support of the HDA Pledge and ask that, as the Hockey Is For Everyone Ambassador of their team, they’d begin to put pressure on the NHL to accept and implement this pledge. It’s really the only way I see something change, is if players within the league start pressing for it to happen. ESPECIALLY if you are a white player, PLEASE reach out. If you have a local team, try and call them or email them, or reach out via social medias of the team as well.
MAKE. THEM. HEAR. YOU.

don’t call me that - andre burakovsky
Tumblr media
a/n: so y’all know that tik tok trend where you call your significant other by their first name to see their reaction and wives have been doing it to their husbands and they’re all like what did I do? well, that kind of inspired me to write this little one-shot based on that with my favorite hockey <3
word count: 1021 (i may have gotten carried away)
warning(s): not many -- one curse word & hints of sex at the end
special thanks to: @davidpastrsnack for helping me with this idea & @spookymakar for always hyping me up on my writing & @pizzasloot for being so great <3 y’all are great!
anyways hope y’all enjoy my introduction to writing for hockeyblr!
Really it shouldn’t have been that big of a deal to you, but you were already on edge with how much attention your boyfriend of two years was not showing you, it was important to you and should have been to him. He promised it would be a special night to celebrate the big promotion you just got at work but was it? No. He had forgotten about it which left you sitting in your favorite restaurant in the new city you went with him to, in his favorite dress on you, with your makeup and hair done, and no boyfriend.
The waiter had been sending you sympathetic looks for the hour you spent sipping on a single glass of wine and picking at the bread. Eventually, you paid for the wine and slipped out of the restaurant flushing with embarrassment as other patrons looked at you walk out with tears in your eyes. You made a mental note that you would not be coming back to this restaurant cause it no longer was the romantic gesture he surprised you with during your first week in Denver. Now it was the restaurant that you had loved before he left you sitting and waiting with no call or text for an hour.
Suddenly the promotion at work hadn’t seemed all that exciting after your mood had been brought down by his lack of remembrance, but you tried to push it off and let it go. He probably got stuck at practice late and it hadn’t been his fault, so when you arrived home to find him just hanging out on the couch with Nate and Gabe, you were steaming.
“Woah, y/n! You look great.” Gabe said as you stood in the entryway.
“Thank you, Gabe. I am glad someone noticed.” You slid your coat off as Andre was glued to the couch looking at something on his phone. Nate and Gabe both shared a look as the tension visibly built in the room. Andre’s head snapped up with the comment and his eyes took you in. There you stood in the red dress that hugged your figure perfectly with your hair falling on your shoulders with gentle waves. Andre opened and shut his mouth before jumping off the couch making his way towards you.
“Baby, I’m so sorry, I forgot…” He started.
“Yep, that was clear, Andre. Crystal.” You pushed away from him before he could grab you into his arms. He flinched as you used his real name. You never called him that. Ever. It was always “baby”, “my love”, “dre”, “hun”, or even “burky” so he knew that he was in big trouble. Nate and Gabe also knew that this was not good for Andre having never heard you call him by his real name. Usually, they chirped him about how he was your “baby”.
“We’re gonna head out,” Nate said looking extremely awkward as you walked to the kitchen.
“You look amazing, y/n,” Gabe whispered hugging you with a kiss to the forehead before pushing Nate forward.
As you stood in the kitchen, you could hear Nate’s, “oh you fucked up, man.” and Andre’s quiet “I know.”
As you stepped out of the kitchen to go to bed cause you were exhausted after work and then Andre’s screw up, you saw Landy smack Andre in the back of the head. He whisper-shouted something you couldn’t quite understand in their native tongue, but whatever it was, Andre was looking down at his hands with a sheepish expression.
You closed the bathroom door as you started your night routine which was another indicator to Andre that you were upset with him if the hallway conversation with you and Landy’s verbal scolding wasn’t clear enough. After taking the extra time to work through your skincare routine, you pulled on one of his old Capitals shirts and slipped from the en suite. He was sitting on the bed ready to apologize when the door had cracked open. He quickly stood up and walked towards you.
“Andre, can we please just go to bed? I want to sleep.” The look that fell over his face was confusion, hurt, and disappointment, but he nodded nonetheless.
You crawled underneath the covers in your shared bed. You even let him curl his arms around you with his legs tangling in yours. He whispered “I love you” and you did the same closing your eyes.
---
The next day at breakfast you sat down and talked with Andre about last night. You outlined how it made you feel and why it was a big deal, which he was adamant he didn’t need to be told. He apologized profusely and promised it would never happen again.
“I really am sorry babe. You didn’t deserve that.” Andre reached for your hand across the island.
“No, Andre, I didn’t.” You sighed.
“Don’t call me that.” He whispered with puppy dog eyes. “Please.”
“It’s your name, Andre…” You rolled your eyes.
“But you only use it when you’re mad at me.” He slipped from the barstool and walked over to where you stood leaning against the counter. His big arms engulfed you as he pulled you against his chest.
He lifted you by your thighs onto the counter and pressed his lips against your forehead.
“Are we okay?” He whispers against your hairline.
“Yeah, baby. We’re good.”
A huge smile spread across his face as he ducked his head to connect his lips against yours. The kiss was sweet, slow as you both molded together. It quickly became heated as his hands ran down your side to toy with his shirt covering the tops of your thighs. He pushed it up to pool at your hips before slipping his fingers underneath the waistband of your underwear and signaling for you to lift your hips.
“Baby…” You started but were cut off with “Shhh...let me make it up to you. You looked so good last night…” He started before sinking to the floor in front of you.
By the end of the morning, he had definitely made it up to you.
---
any feedback is appreciated <3

Rant: Due to the current resurgence of a certain Kraken player on hockeyblr, I want to educate people on something problematic that he did (even though it occurred back in 2020 and some of the people who talk about him in such a positive way may not know about this incident). I did make a post about it in 2021 since that was when I found out but considering that it’s been almost 3 years since then, I’m thinking about making a new one. I know why it’s important in a sense to do it but I’m also extremely terrified of bringing it up again because I know that it’ll lead to people blocking me for causing drama, even though, that’s not what I’m intending to do with the post.
I know not everyone is going to like you but my rejection sensitivity gets so bad sometimes that it PHYSICALLY HURTS me to be rejected and I’ve already been blocked by several different blogs FOR NO REASON whatsoever (some of which I understand is because I’ve written hockey fic or for the teams that I like, which either thing isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. It makes me spiral a bit if I find out that the blog who blocked me also writes fic for a player I like or is a popular gif maker, considering that I always try to give credit for when I use others’ gifs in my posts😔🙃) so calling out a player is going to create that risk of being blocked and is going to bring up those uncomfortable feelings and make me go through it but at the same time, people are currently put him such on a high pedestal as if he didn’t do something wrong and there’s actual public evidence of his problematic action🙃
(Yes, I fully understand that you can’t police who people like and some people will always like very problematic people, regardless of what they do. I already know that some of the players that I like have done something questionable and some of the teams I like have problematic players. Overall, bare minimum, people should at least know what he did. What I’m talking about isn’t a rumor either and again, I’m not trying not to start drama).
