i know millipedes have become the more "socially acceptable" myriapod but the pitting of millipedes against centipedes i see all the time is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. ueughhgh. i adore millipedes, i think they're neat little guys, but millipedes are hardly comparable to centipedes and it's unfair to lump them together as the "good animal" vs the "evil animal." i see countless comments online saying how ugly, disgusting, creepy, and evil centipedes are.

so, centipede propaganda:

anecdotal evidence suggests they have good memory capacity, able to remember escape routes and the location of prey. cool

they can learn to tolerate handling by humans and some appear to enjoy being petted by humans. obviously we can't ask them if they like it but if a lightning-fast worm made of knives doesn't like something it's going to tell you. a centipede just won't allow itself to be in a situation it doesn't want to be in. but obvs disclaimer: don't handle a centipede without experience and handle at your own risk. research bite reports. etc. be sensible, bites can be serious

each pede has its own temperament. some are comparatively chill and lazy, earning them the nicknames "lazipedes" while others are reactive and defensive.

they feel safest under rocks and leaves (in their banky…) if mine are stressed sometimes i just plop a leaf over their head and they settle down instantly

not all of them JUST eat other animals. some dabble in fruits too! the fruit enjoyers .

they spend a lot of time grooming their antennae. you think that sleek aesthetic maintains itself? their relaxed side esp when grooming is fascinating to see. the creature you likely only see darting away from you at 1000mph is also capable of Chilling the fuck out.

they have terrible eyesight. imagine a centipede with tiny little glasses. don't you feel better now? anyway the fact that they don't see well is part of why they sometimes react so viscerally to things. you probably would too if you were small and preyed on by big things.

centipede mothers fiercely protect, groom, and nurture their babies. they do so for longer than they "need" to in some cases. in a study a variety of pede species were found sharing nest sites in forest canopies, demonstrating a lack of negative spatial associations. this was unusual because we typically expect these guys to not be keen on sharing.

not all bites are due to "aggression" but more from using their fangs in an exploratory nature. think of them as kids but instead of hands they have fangs. it's slippery on you so i'll grab on gently with my venomous fangs. i don't know what you are yet so i'm gonna reach out and test the Texture. you smell salty, i'm gonna lick you. etc.

they are ouppies.

even if you think they're ugly they come in so many colours so there's gonna be one that suits ur taste. there's baja blast blue. ridiculously bright red. piss yellow. candy corn black & orange. if you can think of a colour combo there's probably one out there.

anyway. our empathy for animals shouldn't only extend to those we find socially acceptable or easy enough to anthropomorphize

the ancient scripts.. the history... thank you for this knowledge. the 1D -> kpop always made a lot of sense to me but the 1D -> hockey never really did? the fact that two big blogs were into hockey makes it make a LOT of sense now though.

wioeiudygsuia honestly i was exposing myself as a kpop stan too (although i like to defend myself and say that as i get older i'm becoming more of a kdrama stan. just as long as people ignore the two different emotional support going seventeen episodes i have in my other tabs rn) but it was geniunely so weird. As a Directioner by month two of the "hiatus" people had already gone from One Dream, One Band, One Direction to Leafs Forever. I vaguely recollect two big blogs before the band even broke up were into hockey lightly so I think that was the powder keg. I had already been into kpop by the time One Direction was formed on the xfactor so I juggled the two of them but for most people One Direction was the last great Western boyband and with 5sos on hiatus at the time (and a debate on whether or not they counted as a boyband), the only option to get your boyband fix for us fans of the genre was in kpop.

anyway tldr: if this fandom keeps being dead for a month more, I look forward to seeing everyone's urls and going on their blog to read fanfics about ATEEZ and see their fanarts of the Canucks.

Matthew spaces out, and stares into the stands for a minute. There isn't any way he's seeing this right. His girlfriend who lives in Minnesota and is taking exams right now is here, in Tampa for game six of the leafs vs. the lightning series.

It's impossible, right??

Toronto scores, the buzzer sounds and the leafs have won. And Matthew even had an assist on the game winning goal. The series winning goal. The leafs were off to the second round. Matthew is really excited but he wishes nothing more than for his girlfriend to have been here and seen it. He knows she's probably watching at home on TV but it's not the same.

He's walking down the tunnel, one of the lasts off the ice, when his mind flashbacks to that moment when he thought he saw y/n in the stands. He really wishes it had been you but it wasn't. It couldn't be.

He rounds the corner and his mouth falls open. Their standing, in the flesh is y/n. A thousand thoughts swirl in Matthew's brain at this moment but right now all he wants to do is hug you.

You run over to him and jump into his open arms. Matthew wraps his strong arms around you. At that moment you both feel a sort of safe feeling. A feeling you only get from being around each other.

Matthew pulls back and sets you down. He looks down into your eyes and at that moment you know exactly how you feel about him.

"Matty, I love you. "

He pauses for a moment, a look of shock on his face then says, "I love you too. I've waited for so long to say that to you."

You both grin at each other looking like idiots until Mitch comes waltzing down the tunnel breaking the trance.

"Alright Kniesy, how about you get out of your equipment before you accidentally leave the arena still wearing it. You'll see your girl soon."

I think it's safe to say Matthew changed quicker than he ever had before.

the biggest difficulty in making this list is that like inevitably b/c of the Inevitable Passage Of Time the babies grow up and sometimes they grow up into like. diff ppl... like i imagine rn the sharks and hawks respectively want mack and bedsy to be with them for life... but is that Happening? it's too early to say ... bedsy seems like he might though. he's goodcanadianboy enough.

boston bruins: marchand and pasta are 100% lifers... mcavoy seems like they want him to be a lifer but he hasn't made up his mind yet.

buffalo sabres: if they make the playoffs within the next five years (BIG IF) then i can see one of power or dahlin sticking it out. but at this point i'm pretty sure the only thing that can save the sabres is a serious exorcism and i mean a SERIOUS one so i doubt this'll happen in truth

florida panthers: barkov

montreal canadiens: n/a. see buffalo sabres but replace "power" with "caufield" and "dahlin" with "slafkovsky" . i mean i guess you can put arber on that list but mostly because his career isn't gonna be that long probably

tampa bay lightning: i WOULD have said stamkos until this offseason... fucking crasy... ok anyway here's my juice: vasy's back injury/surgery have meant he is no longer the goalie he was and i doubt he'll command much after this contract is over. i say 50-50 he leaves vs stays as a reasonable backup/tandem guy. kucherov Wants 2 Win and has a much lower tolerance for Bullshit than stamkos, which means if a competitive price is not being paid for him he will Just Leave. victor hedman is going to be a lifer though

toronto maple leafs: morgan rielly is the only one i know in my heart is a lifer, but only because a) jt was already an islander and b) willy and auston will probably play most of their reasonable careers as leafs and then have like 1-3 seasons somewhere else as ancient old men to Cup Chase One Last Time. don't ask about the other guy you know how i feel about jinxes
