The planning for the bookend pieces of one of my series (or more precisely the last installment) is fucking horrendous and my access to my laptop should be barred.

so like. if anyone else, like me, still has the occasional fanfic they follow on fanfiction.net, and hasn't been getting the update emails for the longest time and was wondering if ti meant the site is on its last legs
no
no they've done something stupid as fuck
Tumblr media
you have to opt back in to getting the emails/notifications of new chapters every six months, because they automatically assume you don't want to know when the fics you followed for the updates have updated

Hehehe @gatodongem thanks for the tag (*˘︶˘*).。*♡
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fics, and then tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, don't be shy and share anyway.
(I can't think of anyone to tag eermm sowwy)
Under read more because smut. It's all porn.
1. fem!MadaTobi boot worship/sword hilt fucking WIP.
There was once a time when Tobirama seldom bit her tongue. During war, months of ceaseless treaty construction, as an advisor to her dear sister. But now… for now, she is reduced to nothing but a vessel. A surrogate for Madara's pain, vitriol swelling inside of her throat as if she has consumed poison.
Madara's gloved fingers trace Tobirama's lips, leather dragging on slightly chapped flesh. “Continue with your punishment.”
2. MadaTobi PWP with some BPD!Madara + Autistic!Tobirama. I also had a brainworm for the word incessant when I started writing it so...
Incessant. The hushed but deafening incessant scrabbling of brush on paper permeates the room. Tobirama sits hunched, incessantly writing. Jotting down ideas from a never-ending creative flow he's had going on lately. Madara’s brows furrow, he's been sitting here for almost an hour, patience beginning to wear thin about 30 minutes ago. About a dozen ‘one seconds’ spoken just to drive him absolutely mad, Madara thinks. He stares in disdain at the paper piles and scrolls scattered around Tobirama, forming a barrier around him.
3. A very early WIP. TobiIzu fuck or die ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This is not how this mission was supposed to go. Tobirama had it planned out perfectly, every fucking step. No high stakes. Nothing that should have changed this drastically, not to the point of being bound to a tree next to Izuna Uchiha of all people at least. The Uchiha prattling on and taunting their captors. “I don't see why you refuse to just take my eyes here and now. What, are you all fucking squeamish? Is that it?” Izuna mocks through a mouth full of blood. It brings Tobirama no surprise that the fool is still going on despite having been decked in the face hard enough to make most men shut the hell up. But of course, Izuna is not like most men.

Just so you all know you can (and should) file a complaint on this piece of shit's database. DMCA claim has already been filed and some of the other scraped websites' datasets have been deleted. The ao3 one is being reposted on other sites but that should not stop you from making noise about it. the harder we make it to get away with this nonsense now the less inviting it will be for them to try in the future
use this guide from paperdemon:

AO3 has been scraped, once again.
As of the time of this post, AO3 has been scraped by yet another shady individual looking to make a quick buck off the backs of hardworking hobby writers. This Reddit post here has all the details and the most current information. In short, if your fic URL ends in a number between 1 and 63,200,000 (inclusive), AND is not archive locked, your fic has been scraped and added to this database.
I have been trying to hold off on archive locking my fics for as long as possible, and I've managed to get by unscathed up to now. Unfortunately, my luck has run out and I am archive locking all of my current and future stories. I'm sorry to my lovelies who read and comment without an account; I love you all. But I have to do what is best for me and my work. Thank you for your understanding.

I'm so fucking tired, no wonder my brain is on a Dhruv Sanghvi (especially) projection carousel lately, given how WIP generation is literally my only outlet (super unhealthy ik but nothing to be done about it) and lemme tell ya, I'm so tired of my brain.
Also taking great willpower to not give into the persuasion of wiping my ao3 - it's like a marker atp.
Lord help me. Anything or anyone if not God, even.

Actually while I'm at it, fuck King's Quest 7 lmao. Rosella AND Valanice being playable should've been twice as kickass as just Rosella in King's Quest 4 was, but it was, as Lucahjin put it, the Perils of Emotional Women. :(
Not to mention the jarring art style change. YIKES.

This tool is optional. No one is required to use it, but it's here if you want to know which of your AO3 fics were scraped. Locked works were not 100% protected from this scrape. Currently, I don't know of any next steps you should be taking, so this is all informational.
Most people should use this link to check if they were included in the March 2025 AO3 scrape. This will show up to 2,000 scraped works for most usernames.
Or you can use this version, which is slower but does a better job if your username is a common word. This version also lets you look up works by work ID number, which is useful if you're looking for an orphaned or anonymous fic.
If you have more than 2,000 published works, first off, I am jealous of your motivation to write that much. But second, that won't display right on the public version of the tools. You can send me an ask (preferred) or DM (if you need to) to have me do a custom search for you if you have more than 2,000 total works under 1 username. If you send an ask off-anon asking me to search a name, I'll assume you want a private answer.
In case this post breaches containment: this is a tool that only has access to the work IDs, titles, author names, chapter counts, and hit counts of the scraped fics for this most recent scrape by nyuuzyou discovered in April 2025. There is no other work data in this tool. This never had the content of your works loaded to it, only info to help you check if your works were scraped. If you need additional metadata, I can search my offline copy for you if you share a work ID number and tell me what data you're looking for. I will never search the full work text for anyone, but I can check things like word counts and tags.
Please come yell if the tool stops working, and I'll fix as fast as I can. It's slow as hell, but it does load eventually. Give it up to 10 minutes, and if it seems down after that, please alert me via ask! Anons are on if you're shy. The link at the top is faster and handles most users well.
On mobile, enable screen rotation and turn your phone sideways. It's a litttttle easier to use like that. It works better if you can use desktop.
Some FAQs below the cut:
First off! If you're seeing an old version of this post, you may not have seen that we now have our first tool to poison AO3 fics! This is still experimental, and it's likely we'll find issues with it as people start using it! But if you want something like Glaze and Nightshade but for fic, this is what we have right now. Before you decide to use it, please read all the info you can--most importantly, using the poison in its current state makes your fic inaccessible to certain users. All the TTS tools I've tried work with this as long as your readers know to save the fic in a certain way! But people who need to download an offline copy to adjust the colors and can't do that with an AO3 site skin will NOT be able to download your work with the current version of the poison. For downloading EPUBs, it preliminarily looks like Calibre can support "unpoisoning" the fic so it's readable again.
"What do I need to do now?": At this time, the main place where this dataset was shared is disabled. As far as I'm aware, you don't need to do anything, but I'll update if I hear otherwise. If you're worried about getting scraped again, locking your fics to users only is NOT a guarantee, but it's a little extra protection. There are methods that can protect you more, but those will come at a cost of hiding your works from more potential readers as well.
"I know AO3 will be scraped again, and I'm willing to put a silly amount of effort into making my fics unusable for AI!": Excellent, stick around here. I'm currently trying to keep up with anyone working on solutions to poison our AO3 fics, and I will be reblogging information about doing this as I come across it.
"I want my fics to be unusable for AI, but I wanna be lazy about it.": You're so real for that, bestie. It may take awhile, but I'm on the lookout for data poisoning methods that require less effort, and I will boost posts regarding that once I find anything reputable.
"I don't want to know!": This tool is 100% optional. If you don't want to know, simply don't click the link. You are totally welcome to block me if it makes you feel more comfortable.
"Can I see the exact content they scraped?": Nope, not through me. I don't have the time to vet every single person to make sure they are who they say they are, and I don't want to risk giving a scraped copy of your fic to anyone else. If you really want to see this, you can find the info out there still and look it up yourself, but I can't be the one to do it for you.
"Are locked fics safe?": Not safe, but so far, it appears that locked fics were scraped less often than public fics. The only fics I haven't seen scraped as of right now are fics in unrevealed collections, which even logged-in users can't view without permission from the owner.
"My work wasn't a fic. It was an image/video/podfic.": You're safe! All the scrape got was stuff like the tags you used and your title and author name. The work content itself is a blank gap based on the samples I've checked.
"It's slow.": Unfortunately, a 13 million row data dashboard is going to be on the slow side. I think I've done everything I can to speed it up, but it may still take up to 10 minutes to load if you use the second link. It's faster if you can use desktop or the first link, but it should work on your phone too.
"My fic isn't there.": The cut-off date is around February 15th, 2025 for oneshots, but chapters posted up to March 21st, 2025 have been found in the data so far. I had to remove a few works from the dataset because the data was all skrungly and breaking my tool. (The few fics I removed were NOT in English.) Otherwise, from what I can tell so far, the scraper's code just... wasn't very good, so most likely, your fic was missed by random chance.
Thanks to everyone who helped with the cost to host the tool! I appreciate you so so so much. As of this edit, I've received more donations than what I paid to make this tool so you do NOT need to keep sending money. (But I super appreciate everyone who did help fund this! I just wanna make sure we all know it's all paid for now, so if you send any more that's just going to my savings to fix the electrical problems with my house. I don't have any more costs to support for this project right now.)
(Made some edits to the post on 27-May-2025 to update information!)

The fact that kids nowadays want ao3 to be censored— guys. Guys. Where is your sense of adventure? When I was 12, and homeschooled, and had unlimited internet access on my second hand laptop, all I felt upon discovering ao3 was unmitigated joy. A whole platform where people can be fucking weird and post toe-curling novel-length diatribes about ANYTHING. How beautiful is that?
And then you, the reader, can just jump in and post your own weird shit? And people might comment just to say “nice job!” Or “where the fuck is the next chapter” on your 20k coffee shop FNAF AU? Bro. Them’s the little things that make the internet worth anything.
Ao3 is so beautiful. I love scrolling past indescribably disturbing descriptions. I love knowing they have a place to be posted. I love knowing that, should I feel the urge to indulge, I can do so with no repercussions.
Mi familia. Mis amigos. Por favor. Take a step back and be grateful that not every facet of creativity has been locked behind an algorithm.

Small reminder that you should really download your favorite fics off of AO3. We are seeing mass censorships well as the chance that anything, such as another severe DDoS attack can shut down the site making works unaccessible and possibly lost for good.
If you do not know how to download fics, it is a simple 2-button click. I've written a tutorial here.
You think your stuff is safe until it's suddenly not, and then often times it's too late.
This post starts with AO3, (because it seems to be the common denominator across all users on this website /joking) but I recommend extending preservation efforts to anything online if you can manage to download it.
I'm not saying panic and start buying tons of storage devices to hold immense amounts of stuff. A cheap usb can hold plenty of things. You don't have to stop using services still available if it's more convenient to read books on your phone than to fill your backpack with 7 of them.
But you should still get (either buying or creating) physical versions because nothing is guarantee that it will remain forever. From shows being pulled from streaming services, to banned books, to losing access to digital copies of media because the service doesn't support it anymore, the account is lost, or the company goes under. This goes for messaging platforms as well. Your role-plays with your friends on discord can be lost forever, your photos can too.
This doesn't even include media most vulnerable to censorship and how quickly it can be removed, and quietly.
You think it will not happen to you, it will. Do not wait for unforeseen circumstances. Go back up and preserve what you can, your future self will be happy that you did.

I hope you realise this means we have to boycott AO3. Like, seriously.
People are giving up other things, brands and products they like or hold dear, and it's fucking devastating, but we're gonna have to leave AO3 for the time being. If you're willing to boycott other goods and services for the same reason, I don't think there should be exceptions unless it's for essentials.
I know after this I'm gonna stop using AO3 until I hear anything new, and I use it every day so it's gonna be the worst, but I mean innocent kids and civilians are dying and for what? The literal least I can do is read my gay ass fanfiction on a different site.
just got a second official warning for my use of "from the river to the sea, palestine will be free" on the OTW volunteer slack
people are also currently asking board to ban saying that the founding of israel was colonialism—equating this to saying racial slurs—and were complaining about my status back when it was "palestine will be free", too
suffice to say, fuck that place, don't give the OTW your money, and don't fucking volunteer there
