so while i'm still in the middle of my playthrough for emilia!rook, i still wanted to be able to keep track of the little bits and pieces of her backstory and #justlittlerookthings that come up based on reactions to in game events and my talking nonstop about her outside of it. also as a reminder, as far as my rook's canon is concerned, any mention of luc.anis is @spitecrow, specifically 💜.
emilia is born in trevis.o, her parents ( distantly orlesian by a generation or three, but nothing about that place holds any significance for anyone in the family, tbh. and don't hold your breath for too many kind words about the chantry coming out of her mouth ) both working within king fulgen.o II's household. it's here emliia's mother sarah befriends viag.o's mother, and even though viag.o is a good few years older than her, the two often will play together ( more like viag.o's patient enough to deal with the ball of energy that is a young emilia ). her parents pass when she's 11, and with no other place to go, viag.o suggests she joins him in the ranks of the crows. ( she'll joke that he's reached the peak of desperation for a sibling since the vast majority of the king's illigitimate children opt for exile. )
up until joining the crows, her name is florrent, like her parents. as a gesture of love to her ( adoptive, but don't say it in front of her ) big brother, she takes on the surname 'de riva'.
viag.o tries to have her follow in his footsteps as a poisoner extraordinare, but emilia has a tendency to sometimes .... improvise some of the recipes. she's gotten herself pretty ill on more than one occasion unintentionally. it doesn't mean she's terrible at mixing poisons, she just has to really focus on them and take her time.
it's about this time she ( and viag.o ) realize she's much more deft with a blade than with vials.
she focuses her talents towards dueling more than subterfuge, which results on her rising through the ranks of the crows fairly quickly.
being around crows from a relatively early age through her connection with viag.o, she absolutely 100% knows who lucani.s is ( and illari.o. and what a pain in the ass the latter is ) and has probably seen him in passing while she was still a fledgling ( probably with little baby birb heart eyes tbh ). so we are ignoring any / all dialogue choices in the se.a of blood questline that makes it sound like roo.k has no idea who the demon of vyrantiu.m is or his reputation. she knows.
the crows will call her rook after her return to trevis.o, no exceptions. not even viag.o or tei.a. there's only two people who can / will call her emilia, and it's saved for private conversations. varri.c of course uses emilia when he needs her to listen ( 'kid' is far more playful. if she hears him say emilia, she knows she's in trouble. ) .... or if one of them was sure they were .02 seconds away from meeting the Maker. the other is lucani.s / spitecrow and he's got very good timing when it comes to using it.
speaking of, a shared headcanon w/ spitecrow is that after they're committed to each other, lucani.s gives rook a small vial of his blood for her to keep. ( metric wrote a beautiful post about it and there's no way i'm going to even attempt to summarize, so please go look at their gorgeous writing here ) it's a gesture and a token of his feelings she certainly doesn't take lightly --- especially knowing all about the last time someone had his blood in a vial. she wears it always, tucked under her leathers or whatever she cares to wear around the lighthouse. in several ways, it's the most precious thing she owns.
#justlittlerookthings ( will be updated!! )
hates water. especially deep water she can't see the bottom of.
her sweet tooth is made worse after being able to visit tervi.so again; there's a pastry shop that makes amaretti cookies that she would probably kill for. ( but not yet, ..... today )
sombra de riva is her adopted stray cat from trevis.o and unofficial official veil.guard companion.
sees bellar.a very much as a little sister regardless of age. it's very must protect the vei.l jump.er. mostly from herself.
way too competitive when it comes to wicke.d grace. scary poker - face levels. do not engage unless you want to lose your shirt.
#rook. › meta.#veilguard spoilers /#obviously at some point i'll make this look Pretty#but as i'm still working my way through#it's going to be a bulleted list for now until i can expand on things#this should all go on her carrd too which .. doesnt yet exist

Small blog update:
- The rules, about and verses pages have been updated! No big overhaul, just changed some outdated details and made some small additions to the first two. There is also a brief description for the context of Cayin's Bloodborne interactions in the verses page, though the about page remains the proper introduction to the character.
- Added a tags page with links to each of them. Nothing fancy, tags remain very simple, though some redundant tags have been replaced and rolled into one (inspiration, musings, appearance, reference and aesthetic will all simply be tagged as aesthetic).
- Made the promo into a pinned post.
#ooc#nothing too big but I felt there was need of a small update in these areas#might try to make more thorough changes at some point but for now this should do#I'm debating if I should use a doc or carrd anyways. I'll have to think about that!#But for now energy and time are both very limited

• It wasn’t your fault you’ve always had a messed up sleep schedule
• Even while living, nighttime had never been able to tame you. It was just your luck that the habit carried on into hell. Figures that the world wouldn’t give you a break even in death
• You weren’t exactly an insomniac, per se. It was quite the opposite in fact. Just a simple case of falling victim to spontaneous naps in the most random of places. Yet never at night
• Narcoleptic & nocturnal were the terms that your friends used to use for you. With grins, they’d compared you to an owl; always up at night wandering aimlessly. Sometimes for days on end you’d carry on doing this and that, only to curl into a ball the next day and remain that way
• The habit never was anything more than a nuisance until you’d started living at the hotel. The place was just so big, with so many places for you to lie down before the thought of your bedroom even crossed your mind
• Angel Dust was the first person to find you passed out. He had been strolling into the kitchen, looking for something to consume that wasn’t drugs for once, when he spied you hunched over the counter snoring softly
• In your hand was a wooden spoon covered in a creamy batter of some sort, a bowl beneath it with the same concoction. Almost as if you had been making something before passing out
• Briefly checking his phone, the spider confirmed that it was only two in the afternoon, and approached you with a sly smile
• You were promptly startled awake by a loud shout directly next to your ear
• “I’m sorry—“ Angel laughed wildly as you fumed, not sounding sorry at all. “—but you should have seen your face.” He clutched his stomach as he fell into another laughing fit
• “Hey! Watch it!”
• He ducked with a frown as you sent the spoon flying at his head, just barely missing the porn star’s styled hair
• Everyone quickly made their own discovery about your weird sleeping habits soon after. Each in their own embarrassing ways
• Vaggie witnessed you lying on the stairs looking positively drained one morning, and Charlie even found you face first on the bar counter while Husk wiped away at a cocktail glass
• “Too much to drink?” She asked the cat, lifting up one of your arms between her thumb and forefinger carefully, almost as if you’d wake if she pressed to hard
• Husk laughed to himself at the question, remembering how he had turned to make you a shot before coming back to the sight before him now
• “Not exactly.” He huffed
• Perhaps best example of just how bad your timing was came in the form of an impromptu staff meeting
• Alastor had called everyone— more like demanded them —into the main parlor for an announcement one day. A mere week after the kitchen incident with Angel, in fact
• With a flourish of shadowy magic and a twirl of his hands, the overlord presented some sort of home made commercial on the age old TV the place had, looking very amused with himself as he did so
• You tried to pay attention, you really did. But at one point the actors and stray blood splatters started to look like the back of your eyelids
• By the time it was over, Alastor was tapping his fingers along the top of the picture box rhythmically while everyone looked at him with awkward smiles
• But you? Well—
• “So!” Alastor cheered with a cheesy grin as he spun on his heel. The rest of the members in the room watched him awkwardly, not noticing that your head had hit the back of the couch at a rough angle. “What do you all thi— are they asleep.”
• Static bled into the demons voice at an alarming rate as you let out a half jolt at the shift in mood, falling off the couch with a yelp in your wake
• You took a moment to swipe at your face wildly before blanching at Alastor towering over you nervously
• “Uh, my bad?”
• Alastor’s smile strained itself so thin, you thought it would split his face in half
• “Glad to know I’m keeping you entertained.” He all but laughed happily. But the white knuckled grip on his microphone told you otherwise
• You recall Charlie telling you something about ignorance being one of Alastor’s least favorite things. Especially when it came to his little spectacles
• “Maybe we’ve had enough peer feedback for today—“ Vaggie cut in cautiously
• “I concur.” Came your quick agreement
• You made sure to avoid Alastor for a few days after that

Playerscope, modding and the hunt for aesthetic: why you should be more upset about mods and community expectations than you already are.
I love that this sounds like an academic paper but HONESTLYYYY. I need to put my thoughts to paper in regards to my burnout with xiv, otherwise I think I'll go insane. This is a controversial yet brave post. I am well aware that I partake in some of the things I'm going to be critiquing; aka, "thank you, dinklebottom, we live in a society." I'm also not critiquing mods from a space of offering more accessibility to people and/or facilitating representation not currently offered within the context of the game. There is nuance to every discussion and I'm coming at this from an overarching view around mods and community expectations/standards rather than player joy. I hope this makes sense. I'm also predominately writing from a roleplay perspective, though I'm sure a lot of what I end up saying can reflect in the art party/social space. Just know if I haven't mentioned the latter it's because that's not my scene and I don't pretend to know otherwise.
Anyway. For those who don't know, there's a new mod that's causing some strife in the xiv community called Playerscope. Here is the reddit thread about it. I'm not going to be talking too much about the mod in general because that's not the point of this post, but seeing discussion around it today just made me feel more exhausted than I already am when it comes to modding and the xiv community around it. It made me realise... I'm actually really sick to death of mods. I'm sick to death of what they're doing to the community when it comes to gatekeeping, policing and in general the interactions we have with each other in the community.
Let me explain: I wrote a post about the roleplay mod on bsky that kind of articulates at a surface level what I mean.
I think what makes me sad, which I'm sure is echoed by a lot of people, is that mods feel like the standard now rather than an option and that there's a certain expectation for people to have them if they want to engage with facets of the community—whether intentional or not.
Unlike XIV, WoW has a supported mod scene (within reason) and TRP 2 and the like have been accepted for years now. In a space where people can't slap on an RP tag, having that tool readily identifies you as a writer/roleplayer and you can include as much or as little of your character as you like. The general idea is if you have one of these tools enabled, you're a roleplayer to some capacity. You can dress up the profile to a certain degree, you can add links and supported pictures, but you're mostly reliant on what you put to paper in regards to your character. Even then, I find filling out what my character is doing currently and marking the rest as a WIP doesn't necessarily exclude me from roleplay if I want to find it. A lot of people will do that and a super simple description to incite interest around their oc.
These days in XIV... I don't know. I do think communities have gotten more insular—it's why I'm so pedantic about trying to find them for the Compendium—but I also think mods and, to a certain extent, the 'nightclub' scene have gotten in the way of it as well. My argument is such.
I want to go to an event (for example sake, I'll call it Seascape). In order to fully participate, I may need:
Their discord.
A roleplay addon.
A carrd/google site/etc.
Their synchshell (including mods, mare and everything else)
Potentially a mod of some description so people know I can see theirs (and vice versa).
Also that your mod isn't made by a shitty person.
Appropriate understanding of the scene/social space.
Some luck and a prayer that it's an inclusive space and not a closed rp group advertising as being open and/or a mod showcase advertising itself as something different.
Like??? Holy shit you guys. If you are someone who doesn't want to mod because you're worried about repercussions it really just feels like a big 'fuck you, good luck'.
And let me be clear, not every community is like this. I'm incredibly lucky to have found fantastic roleplay within my own rp event/community, I have great friends who run awesome, inclusive events for people of any skill (writing or otherwise) and I do fully believe you can just enable the rp tag and find fun, fulfilling roleplay. But I've also found the above a lot of times, too. I've had people point-blank get mad at my partner because he won't install mods and try to exclude and/or circumvent him in spaces. It's weird. I've been to events where the only time I felt like I got proper interaction(s) was when I joined the aforementioned, even if I have my character's profile linked in my about. It's weird.
Honestly, no wonder new roleplayers feel overwhelmed. Not only do they have to learn roleplay etiquette, they have to be a mod expert overnight? It feels less about what someone can bring to the table as far as a story but what mods they can install to either look cool or pass an unspoken social barrier. As much as I'm down bad for aesthetic and looking the part, I hate it being at the cost of accessibility and fun for someone else.
Arguably it's the same for gposing and the like as well, which contributes to my exhaustion alongside all the graphical changes and I just. I'm gnawing at the bars of my cage.
I don't think it's going to change and arguably it's more of a Twitter/X issue than a Tumblr, one but Tumblr lets me write mini essays and Twitter will tell me to kms.
Ergo, I'll go with the essay-writing platform.
Anyway, I guess this is just a reminder that you don't need 4596419651 mods to be in the community and that people should be more vigilant on including people who don't have them for whatever reason, provided they operate in good-faith and want to contribute. I think we're careening to a slippery slope of expectation for something unsupported and I don't like it.
#。・゚゚・ — sea speaks#i don't know if this a popular opinion or not#but i sure know it's mine!!!#idk man sometimes i'm like 'should i go back to wow'#at least i can find walkup#and read people's trp for fun#i'm enabling reblogs for now BE NICE

some family headcanons (in order: van zieks, baskerville, asogi, holmes) not everyone has names yet 🫣💦
i wrote more details under the cut ⬇️ this info can also be viewed under the "tgaa oc guide" in my carrd (linked in my profile).
Holmes
Mycroft: he’s 7 years older than his brother in the ACD canon, but I wanted him to be around the same age as Klint and Lady Baskerville. He and Sherlock are 7 and 15 respectively here. I wanted his hair to be dark and over his eyes so it’d match his cynical attitude that things are about to go bad at any time. Also, it’s a nice contrast to Sherlock’s lightly toasted color, so you could say he got “burnt”. Mycroft usually wears gloves, both because he dislikes touching things directly and because he has a tendency to be dishonest (a classic character design trope - though it’s probably less obvious in a game where almost every character of the upper social classes will wear gloves due to the setting). Mycroft predominantly wears green (next to yellow on the color wheel). Despite his avoidant and anxious behaviours, he has a sharp tongue, and rarely addresses people by their proper title. For someone who wants to avoid trouble, he doesn’t try really hard to fit in due to being a contrarian in that aspect... he’s a genius, but he’s an idiot too (lol).
Sherlock: The most important thing is that he’s recognizable without being dressed identically to his adult self, because he hasn’t come into his own yet (and it would just make no sense). He’s wearing rather nice clothes since the Holmes family belongs to the gentry class, but my friend suggested that his clothes would be dirty often since he’s crawling around trying to “solve cases” all the time, and I really love that idea. His mother is probably despairing about it. Sherlock takes himself very seriously at this age, but of course he says ridiculous things all the time.
Father (unnamed): I wanted the brothers to have a point of reference or inspiration for their creativity with inventions and general resourcefulness, so he’s a toymaker who specializes in automata. Mycroft learned from him for some time until he eventually surpassed him due to his inherent genius, but Sherlock lost interest quickly despite also showing talent. Their father is a friendly man whose work usually keeps busy, and he’s on good terms with his wife. I’m undecided on whether the toy shop should be connected to their house or not.
Mother (unnamed): I really wanted her to look like her youngest son without being an exact replica of him, with a simple and uncomplicated design. She’s a housewife with no other occupation officially, but she’s adept at sewing and often takes on requests from friends and neighbours. She also makes clothes for her husband’s creations, as well as for her children. Will dress up Mycroft and Sherlock in dresses on occasion, sometimes to get back at them for causing trouble and sometimes just to try out designs. Sherlock doesn’t mind it, and neither does Mycroft though he’s annoyed at the “punishment” since it’s usually his brother who ropes him into trouble. Their mother is constantly fatigued by their antics, so I feel a little bad for her (their father is more easygoing, so he doesn’t get as stressed out by their sons). Her relationship with her oldest son was complicated for some time due to his tendency to withdraw from the world, but her youngest helped her understand that his brother does love her in his own ways.
Van Zieks
I tried my best to incorporate angel motifs in their design to reflect Barok’s “fallen angel” motif later in life, hence why his and Klint’s father has white hair for example. The feather lace on their mother’s sleeves was a last minute addition; I think I’ll revisit their designs again soon. Klint wears his hair the same as he does as an adult to keep him recognizable, but I think it’d be funny if when he was very young it was parted on the side and he hated it or something.
Claes: Their father’s name. It’s Dutch and pronounced “Klaus”, but I keep pronouncing it wrong (a little bit on purpose because I like the sound of it spelled out). He has a constant poker face, but he’s actually the most affectionate parent in this entire lineup..! He’s meant to be smiling in the drawing, but a stranger wouldn’t be able to tell. I love characters whose personality subverts our expectations we’d usually have based on their appearance, so he looks and acts very seriously but would rather spend time at home with his family and hates going to work (lol). Also fond of cute, small, and typically “feminine” things, but he keeps that part of him a secret since it’d be frowned upon for a man in this era, especially within the upper class which is all about appearance (his wife is aware of it, though). Maybe that’s why he dotes on his kids so much? He’s very corny as well and has plenty of nicknames for his wife and children, which Klint hated at this age. I also wanted Claes to be the same height as Stronghart, with an imposing build and expression, so that the next authority figure in the brothers’ lives following his death would “fill” the gap he left. But that didn’t end so well, did it...
Evana: Their mother’s name. Similarly to Claes, her personality is meant to subvert her elegant appearance. She’s a complete airhead and once got lost in her own house. Evana is nonetheless stricter than her husband towards her children and puts a lot of emphasis on what is or isn’t proper. She’s in tune with trends and gossip as is expected of a lady in her position, and might come across as superficial to some, but she is very loving. When young Lady Baskerville would visit, she and her future mother-in-law would get along tremendously well (to Klint’s annoyance as he also wanted to spend time with his fiancee but couldn’t relate to most of their conversations). Evana had the most religious faith among the van Zieks, and would encourage virtue, integrity, and nobility of character above all else in her children.
Barok and Klint: Two well-behaved, beloved children. Barok is of course the little darling after all; I think Klint was probably the more rebellious one but became very serious after their parents’ death with all the responsibilities now on his shoulders. That was probably a very lonely period for Barok, until his brother cheered up again.
Baskerville
Primrose (Lady Baskerville): In flower language, her name means “I can’t live without you”. I didn't know this at the time I named her, but it fits the story very well, so thank you to my friend who taught me this! Primrose’s outlook is very unconventional for the era and especially at her young age, but she’s grown disillusioned with her lot in life as well as men following her mother’s death. I wanted her to be the only one in the family to be a redhead to reflect how she’s not fitting the mould with her assertive and brash personality, and how she feels "out of place". Her father dresses her in very impractical, often white dresses to assert his control over her as a form of “love”; to thwart her tendency to sneak out of the house without permission and participate in unladylike activities.
Her and Klint become codependent on each other following his own parents’ passing and promise to marry each other even though Lord Baskerville is set on finding his daughter a suitor with a more stable future.
The woman is her stepmother, and the others are her father and her half-brother. Since I’m working on a project involving all of them, I don’t want to reveal too much about them yet. All I can say is that it’s not a happy home, and no one in particularly close to each other (except the twins, maybe)...
Asogi
Genshin: I imagined he used to be short and got his growth spurt late (shown at around 12 years old here). Genshin looks a lot like Kazuma due to his eyes and nose, but thankfully he has a distinctive hairstyle already. I'd like to think he grows out his hair at around fifteen. The scarf's pattern is meant to evoke snake scales! Sorry for how lazily I drew Karuma here, haha. As for his personality, he has a poker face but I like to think he can be quite mischievous, though not towards his immediate family as the repercussions would be non-negligible. His brother in law, Hiroki, however, is the perfect person to prank since he's both kind and naive. I also imagine it's tradition for every (male) Asogi to dedicate their life to training, though he’d have a bamboo sword instead of Karuma at this age, probably... I wonder how Genshin discovered the hilt trick? If he was a kid or teenager, maybe he hid snacks inside (lol).
Miwa: Genshin’s older sister. She wears men’s clothes most of the time. Being their father’s legitimate child, she was going to inherit the clan despite being a woman until Genshin showed up. With Genshin having the “luck” to resemble his father, as well as being male, their father decided to make him the heir instead. Miwa resents Genshin for taking this chance from her, despite knowing deep down that he is not personally at fault. Still, she is outwardly bitter and dismissive of him, and spites his efforts to become closer to his sister. Miwa is both vain and arrogant while also following a rigid moral code. She distrusts men, most likely due to her father’s treatment, but she also respects her father greatly as a warrior. Miwa displays surprising gentleness towards children and women, namely Genshin’s girlfriend and later wife Yukari. Her abrasive personality mellows out when she becomes a mother herself, but she was unable to repair her relationship with her brother before his death. Since that’s very sad, in modern AUs I like to depict them on better terms.
Hiroki: Miwa’s husband through arranged marriage. Hails from a family of performers; his specialty is traditional dance but he’s skilled in rakugo as well. I wanted a character with a sensitive side, who is in touch with his emotions, to contrast the serious and tense atmosphere of the Asogi clan. Thanks to that side of him, Hiroki gets along well with Yukari who has a similar easygoing and “refreshing” personality. However, Hiroki’s sensitivity creates problems since Miwa is confused by a man exhibiting such behaviours (he’s the type to be moved by beautiful scenery and cry over small animals). Hiroki believes everyone can do good and that most people act from goodness, but for this reason he’s easily tricked- namely by Genshin. Despite amusing himself at his expense (since Genshin is quite clever), Genshin enjoys Hiroki’s company since he’s a very mellow person and doesn’t bring up dreadful topics like inheritance and power and such. Hiroki is surprisingly well-built under his clothes, and his weapon of choice is a naginata. I guess Syoma wanted his son-in-law to be strong..?
Syoma: The central figure in the Asogi household. Still alive during the events of TGAA. A very serious man who accords a lot of importance to honor and tradition to the point it’s stifling. Distant from his children, though Miwa claims Genshin is the favorite. The kind of father to make his children compete to “make them grow”, even though one of them is almost an adult and the other is barely a teenager. Although Genshin was conceived after his late wife’s passing, Syoma sees Genshin as a reminder of his dishonourable actions (mainly due to Genshin’s mother being a prostitute), and thus avoids him despite placing the onus of inheritance upon him. All of that results in a house Genshin doesn’t want to stay in- and contributes to his reasons to go study abroad. In his own twisted way, Syoma loves his children, but he was never meant to be a father, or at least does not know how to parent without a wife’s help (tradition and patriarchy is very much a theme for the whole clan lol). I honestly struggle to write him because the things he says can be very hurtful, especially towards his daughter-in-law. His character is a lot more comedic/nicer in modern AU (think pseudo yakuza with mother hen personality), but so is everyone’s. (it’s very sitcom-like, haha)
Thanks for reading if you made it this far!! This post could be even longer but I decided to spare everyone💗 have a bonus papazieks and children doodle for your time👼💗

This post is not about me, even though I'm the one making it, the only interaction I care about is the attention given to the users I have listed. I am a simple white boy from Detroit. I do not want you to listen to my voice, I want you to follow my finger as I point to the voices you should be listening to. Along with that, you may notice not many users are listed. I have noticed as well, and I feel that says something about this community. Something that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I am not blind, I have seen how our community treats POC and it is honestly pretty damn abhorrent. Many users speak over POC voices or simply don't take it seriously. Rather than actively being anti-racist, a lot of people just put shit like "racists DNI" in their rentry's or carrd or anything and call it good. There is no active fight against racism here, simply a passive acceptance whenever it rears its head. If you reblog this post, if you interact with this or me in anyway, I want you to take the time to follow any of the coiners I've listed. POC deserve a space here too. You need to be more than just not racist, you need to be actively anti-racist. If you're a black MOGAI creator of any kind, please promo yourselves in the replies. I will do my best to add anyone who does to this list.

wibta if i stopped being friends with my best friend?
this is probably gonna be long and all over the place, sorry.
me and this guy, "ghost", have been friends for around 2 years after i approached him during a pep rally.(we had been acquaintances since childhood). Since then, we have been super close and only grew closer after he got kicked out of our friendgroup and i followed him.
He decided to try to be friends with people from the old group and i decided not to(i hold grudges like a mother fucker, they hurt ghost and i will forever hate them.) and all was fine. We still hung out regularly, but recently he's been pulling away.
He had set a strong boundary recently, around early september. no biting, and less hitting. (i express affection by hitting and biting) and i followed these boundaries perfectly. Around three weeks ago, i accidentally got too excited and bit ghost. He didn't show he was upset, so i apologized quickly and moved on. After that, he seemed somewhat mad at me so i asked about it and he said how uncomfortable it made him that i bit him. I apologized a few more times, and im working on processing some bones to gift him. (bleaching them because he seems like he would enjoy those more than unbleached). Anyhow, every year we make plans together for homecoming and Halloween. This year, he made plans for those things without me. Its fine, but im seeing it as a sign hes done being my friend. he has declined to hang out with me for the past few weekends, which is rare.
Im wondering if i would hurt him if i stop making him hang out with me? I'm thinking of skipping halloween with him and just stop bothering him to hang out. The sorta "if you love him, let him go" kinda thing. I just don't wanna bother him further.
extra details if needed:
i am a pretty mean person in general, i poke fun at ghost often. He does the same thing back usually. I made a few jokes about his mom having cancer at one point, but i stopped once i bothered to read his carrd and it said he disliked those sorts of jokes. I also don't really have any other friends due to my rudeness and everything.
tldr: im kinda mean and my friend doesn't seem to wanna be friends anymore so I'm wondering if i should stop trying.
posting this without anon bc ghost doesn't use tumblr.
What are these acronyms?

Obvious Disclaimer that this is not about any specific anon in particular, not about OTNF themself, but that my following rant might *slightly* punch down on people who ARE, well, older than net fics are.
But my honest opinion is that I really don’t like it when us old heads tend to sorta…talk down to? “Adultsplain”, if that’s even a thing? To The Gen Zs, by being like “damn kids! back in my day we never used our real name or posted selfies or posted about our personal life at all!” Don’t get me wrong, I’m one of those people who never posted the real me — but not because I was anonymous and cared about online safety, because I was a liar 😂 That being said, there ARE older people who definitely over-shared or “doxxed” themselves and still do, and there’s younger people who don’t!
I also feel like being “ha, these stupid KIDS who post about their FANDOM LIFE on TIK TOCK under their REAL NAME AND FACE where IRLS CAN SEE THEM, how STUPID” is not doing anyone any favors. Is that, technically, a smart thing for kids to do? No. Has it become normalized? Yes. And does that suck for people who might be bullied or outed or whatever cuz they genuinely are dumb and don’t know better and then someone they don’t like sees their stuff? Yes.
We all talk about how there’s no more kids spaces on the internet and how that’s a shame, but then five seconds later we’ll reblog that one “At any time I’m at risk of seeing a 14 year olds opinion and that’s why I hate it here” post. There’s really so few kid spaces on the net now, that’s true. We should extend empathy and let the teens be obnoxious and pretentious in peace, rather than making it a point to “ratio” or “roast them.” Idk personally I’d be completely unbothered if some 14 year old insulted my fic or my ship or whatever. I’d just block and move on, no need to try to argue with them.
And also, not all kids are even pretentious or obnoxious! I’m not saying we all need to take the kids under our wings, but we should be careful about not hating them just for being in their teens years, you know?
Also… telling a teenager to not post PII or not get into discourse or not have social media or whatever will NOT work the way you want it to 😭 kids are by default a little bit oppositionally defiant so telling some rando teen to Get Off Your Lawn (blog) rather than just blocking them, will encourage said teen to Stay On Your Lawn.
I just hate how it’s become normal for adults to talk down to teens online. I was harassed by adults online as a kid, then years and years and years later i went through my own “Older Than You™️”phase where I myself was a shit to teenagers, and I truly regret that so much. To this day I still need to make an effort to be careful. I saw on Twitter where an adult posted a DM from a 13 year old, mocking them. The DM said “I’m 14 next year, can I follow you? Please don’t groom me.” And the adult OP was laughing at how stupid the dm was. A few years ago, I would’ve been one of the people retweeting that and rolling my eyes at the child. Now im disgusted by the people who WERE laughing at them.
And again I’m obviously not saying we should be “nice” to the teenagers who mock us for our ships or who virtue signal too hard. But we also don’t need to make fun of their CARRDS or call them Puri-teens or rag on them just for being 17 or younger, yk?
--
Teens aren't 'puriteens' just for being young, dude. They have to also be puritanical bullies.
I find the stuff about real names hilarious because, actually, if you're really Internet Old™, then you probably did use your real name... it was right there in your university e-mail address! Or your random early ISP address if your stepdad got it for you and thought the university format was the default. Thanks, stepdad.
I've done every single dumb thing from going to meet my internet pen pal at an Alice Cooper concert to flying to Ireland from Japan to stay with a fandom friend I'd never met without telling anyone where I was going and without a credit card or enough cash to flee if I had to. I remember sitting on the plane thinking "Man, this is such a CSI episode topic".
The really funny part was that despite what she'd said before I visited, we ran into each of her parents at different times and ended up going to a play courtesy of her uncle, and all of them were like "So how do you know each other?" and "But you'd met before, right? RIGHT?!"
The level of panopticon is horrifying now. Teens have my sympathy. That part really is worse, and I think it's driving an entire generation nuts and we're going to see even more shit about people wanting to run away and live in a cabin in the woods with no internet. But in general, I don't think we're so different.

In relation to that essay I wrote about not being plural, I have found/heard of some terms that are pretty close to describing my experiences, but they all have their own problems for me, personally. I'm not researching very intensely into terms, and I am mainly sharing this for others who might find these terms better to describe themselves than I did!
Under the cut because it kind of got long, oops.
The first is polymind, the definition (from the official wiki page) is as follows: "people who are able to distinguish their subpersonalities so well to the point they are perceived as unique beings."
There are a few problems with it (for me, personally), those being that: 1. It has been tossed around in syscourse as a 'non-harmful alternative to endo', despite the original creator specifically saying it did not coin it to 'replace' anything, and also not having syscourse opinions.
2. Because of its involvement in syscourse, its definition has become less clear, with some even saying that it's for 'systems who just don't want to call themselves systems'. Ignoring the fact that labels are a completely personal choice + preference, and you should not force any one label onto anyone, I feel like if I called myself polymind it would incidentally give others the wrong first impression. (That being that I'm anti-endo, which I'm not.)
3. I wouldn't use the word '(sub)personalities' to refer to these beings in my mind. Because the 'characters' I have in my brain get very individualized based on how much I write about them, and so they're not my personalities, they're facets of my writing. Also, having them be called personalities just brings to mind 'multiple personality disorder', the older and widely considered offensive term for DID (before it got renamed to DID). (I am going to repeat that this is personal preference for me, and I am aware that the more widely used term in the community is 'minds', which I do like -- but it's more this specific word in the definition that I can't relate to.)
The second term is multiself, its definition (from the coining post) is this: "Multiself is an umbrella term for any singlet/singlet adjacent being that experiences multiple identities/selves."
This term actually fits me pretty accurately! Since I experience 'myself' through stories, and especially through characters, I tend to view myself through the lenses of characters, even if I don't necessarily identify as them. For example: Saarn is a character I identify as, whereas someone like, say, V1 from Ultrakill is a character I don't identify as but can see myself in in some ways. If I wrote a lot about V1, I would begin to be able to 'think' more like it.
The main problems I have with this term is that 1. It was coined by a radqu.eer. I do not want to get involved with that community whatsoever, but unfortunately even if you just use the identity and try to separate it from its origins, people will still make assumptions about you if you use it. I don't want to have to tag every post I make with 'antiradqu.eer multiself' because that honestly would just be a pain. I've also said this before but making a giant post (or DNI, or BYI) about my opinions would just take too long and would be a pain to update all the time. Plus, who would read all my opinions on increasingly niche discourses?
2. Because it is a much more recently coined term, and thus isn't popular, there isn't much of a community. The tag for multiself is mostly just coining posts -- which aren't necessarily bad! But there's just not a lot of actual discussion (like if you look into the polymind tag for example, you'll see a lot more discussion from others of their experience being polymind). This means that it would be harder for other beings to understand what multiself actually is, and more likely for beings to brush it off (similarly to polymind) as 'systems not wanting to call themselves systems'.
The third term is soulbonding, its definition (from this carrd) is: "Soulbonding is when a person, often after forming a strong connection to a fictional character or world, can communicate with characters in their mind."
And yeah, out of all three of these terms, this one is probably the most accurate! I would love to use it, but again, it does come with its own problems (I think 'baggage' would probably be better to call it, at this point, since most of my problems aren't even with the terms themselves but with people making assumptions about them).
1. It has sort of been absorbed into the plural community, despite there being evidence that not all soulbonders consider themselves plural. That's why I had to specify in my essay 'non-plural soulbonding'; otherwise, again, people would make assumptions.
2. Because of its absorption into the plural community, the actual soulbonding community itself has basically... Died. There are still people posting in the tags, of course, but there aren't any popular, active Discords or forums I could find. Mainly, it seems like most soulbonders stick to isolated parts of the web. This presents the same problem as multiself, where it can be harder to find or understand information about it, because no one is actually talking about it!
3. The term has gained a heavy spiritual connotation, as in "I'm literally communicating with this character that's in another world" or something similar to that. I'm not talking down to spiritual soulbonders (that'd be hypocritical of me), but it doesn't relate to how I see the characters from my writing. And I think the 'soul' part of 'soulbond' only adds to this connotation.
Out of all these terms, soulbonding is probably the one I'm most likely to use, even with all the misinformation or assumptions about it... But it would be and is exhausting to explain the same things over and over again. (Another reason why I wrote up my original essay, I was tired of saying "I'm not plural, even though I have some similar experiences to plurals, please stop recommending me to 'do more research' because I already have identified as a system and it didn't fit me".)
Then again... I guess dealing with misinformation around these terms wouldn't be much different from the misinformation already around alterhuman, otherkin, otherhearted, etcetera. Maybe I just need to get over myself.💀
Again, these are all personal opinions! If I accidentally got any information incorrect here, then please politely tell me, instead of sending hate, or whatever. Hate is not a very effective way to get people to listen to you.

i sometimes see people say things like, “nobody has a role in my system. we dont fit into any because we’re more like, “guy who is sad” and “girl who is productive”.” or even, “i can’t be [role] because sometimes im weak/sad/self destructive/etc etc”
firstly i want to say, this is okay!! don’t use roles if you don’t want to! make up your own, even!
but i also want to remind everyone that fully formed alters (as in, not fragments) are full, multidimensional people, and people aren’t always consistent. we’re also all traumatized, and that shows sometimes no matter who is fronting. protectors can be scared. trauma holders can be happy. persecutors can be kind to their system. the definition of the role doesn’t have to be the definition of you as an alter. protectors are just alters who feel protective over, and sometimes physically protect their system. that doesn’t mean they can’t be scared sometimes, that doesn’t mean they automatically can handle a traumatic situation well, that doesn’t mean they never feel depressed. same goes for any other role.
also, there absolutely are roles for things that are more complicated too, if you want to use them. some people like being “guy who is sad” while others like being “trauma holder” or “depression holder”, even if it might mean the same thing to them. roles don’t have rules, they’re created by us, and what is making you [role] can be anything, depending on how you interpret it. and you can still have one even if you don’t feel like you are any of the “common” roles. even if what you do in the system is hyperspecific and uncommon, you can still find/make a role for it. but you don’t have to. it’s also just a descriptor.
this is getting long and im not entirely sure this gets my point across, but i have been seeing more and more stuff like this, and i think people shouldn’t be scared away by roles just because they’re so broad and there can be so many. just like nobody should have to identify with roles, nobody should be intimidated or scared away if it might be beneficial or fun for their system.
also if you are looking for roles, there’s pluralpedia (keep in mind this is an endo friendly website, whether that keeps you away or pulls you in to the website isn’t what this is about i just know it’s commonly mentioned). there are also lots of instagram accounts and tumblr blogs who coin (create) roles! you’re bound to find some if you look under the tags or even scroll through a system blog long enough. if anyone coins roles on their blog or knows any other role lists/carrds/docs/etc plss reblog with them!

Uh so I have finally worked up the courage to begin sharing my 2 main stories more. One is a comic and one is a story i have been make for the past 3 years. I want to post more about it, but it seems as if people are turning a side eye and....it sometimes makes me wonder if my art and storytelling skills are shit. I want to get questions and feedback from people, do you have advice on this? (Sorry if it's not a good question)
So, (and please stay with me here) the harsh reality of posting your work online is that no one owes you their interest. You have to earn it. It takes a while before balls get rolling and people get interested, I know amazing artists and writers who get minuscule likes and follows on social media, and the reason for that is because advertising yourself on the internet is a skill that is difficult to learn but absolutely essential. I would not be where I am now if I didn't make a tiktok in 2021 and posted short form videos at a back breaking pace. Rather than have people seek me out or find me randomly (tags do not really help anyone anymore esp. small creators) tiktok, insatram reels, youtube shorts, all these videos get placed in the lap of someone who wasn't looking for it, but that the algorithm thought might be interested. Now I'm not saying necessarily that you should make these short form videos, especially if you're not that interested in the format (tiktoks/shorts/etc that are made without understanding what makes people keep watching don't get popular) but if you don't cater your work to be easily digestible, interesting within the first few seconds of watching/reading, or within some current trend (something I don't do or recommend) then your growth is going to be slow. This isn't necessarily a bad thing! Slow growth will eventually give you die hard fans that stick around for a long time rather than someone who randomly followed you because of one post but never interacts again. Now (stay with me again) I want you to know that those feelings of worrying that your skills are not enough? Those don't fully go away even with the interest and feedback. At least not for me and not for many of my fellow artists. I'm not saying this to discourage you, but to show you that those feelings are completely normal and that (oftentimes) your talent isn't what's holding you back, but your tenacity. You must make yourself loud to be heard online. Have multiple social media accounts, have a link to them in every bio (I recommend using carrd to make an online business card), have a recognizable username that is easy to remember and different than others you've seen, have a profile pic/icon that is eye catching and clearly identifiable (try to show it to someone who knows nothing about your characters and have them guess from a distance what it looks like, this can be quite humbling from my personal experience) and most importantly, post as often as you can. Obviously do not make yourself burnout, (I've made this mistake many times with horribly long recovery times) but find out how often you can post about your ideas/work without it being too stressful and try to keep a steady pace. Being a creative on the internet is not an easy side-gig where interested fans simply fall into your lap, that only happens for nepo babies and hot people. The rest of us have to be passionate about our work and post about it not just for other people to engage with it, but for us to share our hard work and be proud of it. Otherwise, what's the point? The more you draw, the more you write, the more you post, the better you'll get. And, even if the interactions are below what you desire, if you can look at your profile, your art, your work...and smile?...then you've won. Hope this wasn't just a tough love ramble and that some of these words might be helpful to you!

the problem with DNIs isn't just that people are expected to enforce other people's boundaries for them (as described here), it's also that online spaces that utilize DNIs actively destroy the line between "identity" and "action".
For example: someone who ships fictional characters is a shipper. Someone who reads "gross" media is "gross". In this mindset, "doing the thing" means "being the thing".
I was once invited to a fandom server that explicitly said, "no shippers are allowed", and I found that terminology ill-fitting, cuz even though I "ship", this activity isn't part of my identity to the degree that I would label myself like that. I assumed that it was simply a poor word-choice and didn't think much of it. What else could it mean, other than asking people not to share shippy content or talk about it? Since fandom discords never really worked for me, but I didn't want to offend the person inviting me, I planned to stay without really engaging, and then quietly leave the server after a while. But somebody did the work for me, when I shared shippy content on my tumblr (NOT the discord) and somebody from the server must've found it and kicked me.
See, I didn't do anything. In the eyes of those server mods I was wrong, and that's the kind of shaming attitude that's harmful to everyone involved. If you subscribe to the idea that someone can, irrevocably, be wrong, then you can be too. It's the thing that makes queer people suicidal: People pointing fingers at them and telling them they are wrong/doomed/disgusting no matter what they do.
Who has time for that?
Here's a thought: don't harm yourself and others like this.
ETA: I probably should have mentioned what a DNI is. For those of you who are lucky enough to have never encountered this concept, DNI means "do not interact". In some online spaces, people write lists of kinds of people that are not allowed to interact with them or their posts/content. People publish their DNIs for example in their tumblr bio or on a site called "carrd", that seems to be mainly used for this sole purpose. If you fail to read the list in its entirety (which can be pretty extensive) and interact with a person/post/content in percieved breach of the DNI, you are claimed to be at fault.

Welcome to Tumblr! You'll have a great time because compared to other social medias we have less insane people per sane people here (unless by insane people you include insane about their hyperfixations, which def outnumber the sane people)
I have two things to say/suggest/ask: 1. Can we get an individual post of that full banner? It looks lovely and I wanna reblog and heart it and I'm sure many others want to too! 2. You should probably make an intro post! Which is a post which is pinned (three dots and the pin option) on a blog to let anyone who stubbles across what you are about! The common things in intro posts are:
a general intro (what to call someone, age, nationality, depends how much you want to share)
fandoms they are in and/or past fandoms
their favourite characters or creators in that fandom [or OCs!]
tags which they use commonly (for example, if you have an au, you would list the tag here so people curious about the au can search it up and find all the media on it. Some people also have specific tags for their own art, like my own #eclipsesincarnation art, but listing the standard #my art and stating that's how you search the blog to find your art works too)
other social medias (bluesky, youtube, instagram, twitter, tiktok, etc.)
commission info if the artist does commissions
People also include images in their intro, or banners, or meme banners!
or if you have a carrd you can be like "Hi I'm ....", and link it, meaning you can skip points depending on how indepth the carrd is
Though this is these are just the common things, I recommend thinking about other things to include or looking at others intros for inspo!
Also your art is going to be eaten a lot, your art and artstyle seem very eatable, you can't escape your art being eaten Alright bye, have a nice day? Week? Better be safe and say life, have a nice life!
HELLO!!! :33
I have a bunch of art that i still need to post here including the banner ! not really sure how often i should post on tumblr to avoid shadowbanning? tho ! >.<
and !! ty for reminding me !! ill do a pinned post super soon :D tysm for the little guide aswell !! ill definitely try to check out what other people have set up aswell…
plz do not thhe car

Hey guuuuuys
As a heads up, I'm going to be converting this blog to be mostly my main/pokemon blog. I've been thinking about it for a while tbh and when it comes down to it, I've been feeling a huge disconnect from selfshipping as a whole for a while. It was nice and a great way for me to cope before I was able to get mental health care, but it's definitely more of a hobby now more than anything. Don't get me wrong, I still love my funky little gals and guys and it's fun to think about them in different scenarios! I'm still going to always lose my shit over Piers! But honestly? All of my "inserts" have basically come into their own, if that makes sense. They are not me. They may share a name with me sometimes but that's definitely an OC, that and I'm too lazy to rename the various Mandas and Jeannes across franchises cause that shit is a lot of work. And besides, literally everyone who has made a character has put some of themself into it and I know that I'm not wrong--
Now, what does this mean for me/the blog?
I'm still gonna post how I feel like posting. Things are going to be a lot less selfship focused. If anything, I'm leaning more on the side of oc x canon and oc x oc cause that's where I'm finding more enjoyment. No more fancy carrd with f/os and all that happy stuff, it's just going to be an about. No long ass dni honestly who the hell even takes the time to read them anymore (I mean, I do, but not the point I'm trying to make here). Granted my dni was never long in the first place but kgjwjdjejejjfayhs still. I'm still deciding if I'm going to go through the blogs I follow and trim things up. If I unfollow you, by no means is it anything against you and there are no hard feelings on my end. And if you'd like to unfollow me due to my focus shift, I encourage that.
Honestly over all, I haven't had a lot of energy to be publicly online in a while, anyway. It's what happens when you work full time, go to school part time, and have some mental disorders and a chronic illness that's been fucking you over since you were 2. The burnout is real lmao. I'd rather enjoy myself when I'm on tumblr than be all bleh, ya know?
I mean this when I say I did enjoy my time when I was selfship focused, but I think that part of my life is... Not quite behind me, but not a major part of my future anymore. In some aspects, it made my mental health worse, if I'm being honest, and I should have never let it get to that point. Granted that was before I was able to get diagnosed and start my mental health journey, but still. Should have stopped as soon as I felt myself not doing okay. I'm not going to dumb down or sugar coat myself anymore (granted I haven't been for a while but eh is what it is). I'm probably going to be leaving most servers I've been a part of and clean up my discord as well.
I'll still post self ship stuff here occasionally cause I mean, c'mon it's my blog I can do whatever the hell I want with it forever.
But I do think it's time to finally start finishing up this chapter. I'll forever and always be Amanda Pierswife though, you can pry this url from my cold, dead hands <3

How do you make your templates?
Here’s what you gotta do!
The Internetoverdosed Method (patent pending)
1. Gather what you need
You’ll need an image-hosting website, editing software, and a gif-editing website.
I personally use postimages.org (imgur used to be good, but they’re starting to delete accounts when they’re not active), Clip Studio Paint, and ezgif.com. But you can use whatever!
For image hosting in particular, I can also recommend imgbox.com for image hosting that doesn’t require an account.
I also use Pinterest for inspiration, as well as to gather assets for editing~
2. Find an image you want to use
This image should have a very strong color palette! This color palette can be anything, though, really…
3. Edit the image
As much or as little to your liking! I typically clip my images onto a shape. Like a star or heart.
4. Find small pixel art pieces that match your color palette
I use tumblr for this! I search the tags “#favicon(s)’, ‘#decome’ and ‘#pixel(s)’. But there are lots of carrds, Neocities sites and rentries that gather a ton of pixel art pieces in one place, too!
If the pixel art doesn’t exactly match your main image, throw it in your editing or gif editing tool and edit it to match better!
5. Set it all up!
Rentry’s ‘how’ tab is a great place to start if you’re confused on how anything works!
As for the contents of your site, I personally always include names, pronouns, age and race. Plus room for other misc labels, whether that be LGBT+ labels, diagnoses or other such things. But you can put whatever you see fit!
Lastly, here are some general
Tips!
Accessibility over aesthetics ALWAYS!! People moved from rentry to carrd because rentry is easier to read… So making your rentry hard to read defeats the point!! In the words of Dieter Rams, “Good design is as little design as possible.” In this vein: don’t skimp out on alt text either!
Check how your rentry looks on mobile. And in dark vs light mode too!
The limited amount of colored text you can use (blue and pink text, yellow highlights and blue, green, yellow and red spaces) is great if it matches your color palette!
You can also use text deco to fancy it up even more. (Just make sure it doesn’t turn into an emoji on mobile!) I don’t use a particular website for this. I just Google it! BUT don’t use those fancy fonts! Screenreaders can’t read those, and what did we just say about accessibility?
CREDIT YOUR ARTISTS! You can link to someone via an image.
There are lots of places that host small LGBT+ pride flags and other such things for your rentries! In fact… I’m an admin on one! /pixelflags is a super extensive LGBT+ flag-hosting resource and has a even requesting form.
Similarly, /madpride is another rentry resource that I admin! It hosts disability and disorder pride flags / symbols, and also has a requesting form.
Happy rentry-making!
