Sadly I haven't worked on it nearly as much as I want to, because I'm absolutely drowning in 3 different publishing deadlines until December lmao. But I have this small drop to offer:

“Can I ask you a question?” Kara says.

As usual, Lena doesn’t stop typing. Kara has often wondered if she’s actually writing full and useful sentences, or if she’s simply typing nonsense to make people think she’s busy. Kara could see it going either way.

“Is it work related?”

“Not exactly.”

Lena sighs. Her fingers still, and she beckons Kara in with two fingers. “Fine. Close the door.”

With a glance into the bullpen to make sure nobody is looking in their direction, Kara steps into Lena’s office and shuts the door behind her. She doesn’t sit in one of the chairs opposite Lena’s desk, instead hovering just behind them.

“What is it?” Lena says, a little gentler now that they’re less likely to be overheard.

Kara shifts from foot to foot.

“I’ve been wondering. Do you like when girls, um. When they…” Kara clears her throat, staring resolutely at a spot near Lena’s left ear as she spits out the question that’s been burning in her since last night. “When they…pack?”

“When they pack?” Lena says. In her peripheral vision, Kara can see her brow furrow. “Pack what?”

Kara chews at her bottom lip. She dares to make eye contact with Lena – she looks confused, and in a bid for understanding Kara flicks her eyes downward towards her own belt buckle before moving back up.

Lena’s expression shifts. Her cheeks turn pink, following Kara’s eyeline down and then up again, and Kara can hear her previously calm heartbeat kick into overdrive. It’s especially audible in the otherwise silent office until Lena manages to speak after a few false starts.

“Kara, were you googling again last night?”

“Maybe,” Kara mumbles.

Outside, the fax machine beeps. Kara wasn’t aware anyone sent faxes anymore.

“I thought it could be fun. Like a role-play…thing,” Kara says, losing confidence with every passing second. “I found this strap-on toy thing that kinda bends, and it could - but if you don't - I mean, it was just a thought.”

Lena seems lost for any further words. The phone on her desk rings, and she lets it go through to voicemail.

“It’s 9am,” Lena says suddenly.

Kara glances at her watch. It is, in fact, 9:07 – Kara has been thinking about this very question since the moment she woke up, and hadn’t been able to keep herself from asking it as soon as she got to the office. “Um. Yes?”

“In future could you please not ask me this kind of thing until I’ve had my fourth cup of coffee?”

“You’ve had three cups of coffee already?” Kara says.

Lena raises a brow.

“Right. Not the point,” Kara mutters. Something tells her Lena is stalling on answering, though she’s not entirely sure why. Is she worried about telling Kara she isn’t into it? Is she ashamed to tell Kara that she is?

Lena shuffles some papers on her desk, but she doesn’t seem to have any actual goal in mind until her phone rings again. This time, Lena picks it up.

“Lena Luthor speaking.”

“Your meeting is ready in the conference room, Miss Luthor,” Eve chirps through the receiver. “Refreshments have been laid out like you asked, and Mr. Olsen is on his way.”

“Thank you. I’ll be right there,” Lena says, already grabbing her purse. She throws a few things into it, straightening her hair in the reflection of her laptop screen, and breezes past Kara towards the door. “I have a meeting, and you should really get back to work.”

“Right. Yes, definitely. Sorry,” Kara says, following dutifully behind with her question sadly unanswered.

Before her fingers touch the handle, Lena pauses.

“…yes,” Lena says, so low that it’s almost drowned out by the screeching fax machine outside. “I do.”

In a flurry of movement, Lena disappears towards the conference room without another word.

Kara only manages to wipe the stupid grin off her face when she notices Nia staring.

Lena thinking she’s hallucinating bc she keeps imagining having convos with Kara’s ghost but it actually really is Kara’s ghost

So is this scenario one where Lena knows Kara is dead and thinks she's crazy for having conversations with her ghost who is in fact her actual ghost, or is it like... season 6 Lena doing her evil schemes and keeps imagining herself having conversations with Kara only for it to feel more and more real each time, until she realizes she's fully hallucinating Kara standing there pleading with her or whatever, and she's like 'damn I need to get some fresh air I've been trapped in my lair for far too long'. Then the moment she steps out she learns the news that Kara is in fact dead, and the hallucination who keeps asking her for help is the real Kara???????
