Promises in Moonlight || Malleus Draconia
You've chosen Malleus!
Falling for Malleus was like finding warmth in the heart of Briar Valley's mistâslow, unyielding, and all-consuming.
Prologue ; 1k Masterlist
Youâve finally decided to take Malleus up on his invitation. After debating for what feels like forever (and Grim mocking you for "acting like a smitten fool"), you pull out your phone and text him, "Iâd love to go for that walk with you!"
The reply you get is instant, as if Malleus had been sitting with his phone, eagerly awaiting your response:
"Dearest Child of Man, your acceptance fills me with an immeasurable sense of joy. I shall meet you at the courtyard shortly. Together, we will bask in the serenity of the night, under the gentle watch of the stars. Until then, may your anticipation for our evening be as bright as the moon above."
You canât help but laugh. Itâs the most Malleus text ever. Itâs endearing in that formal, poetic, almost ancient way of his, and you feel warmth blooming in your chest as you quickly send a more casual, "Canât wait :)" back to him.
Fast forward to later that evening, and Malleus arrives at Ramshackle Dorm. Heâs looking as regal as ever, his usual air of authority softened by the way he looks at you. Itâs not often you see Malleus trying to be cute, but heâs definitely putting in the effort. Before you can greet him properly, Grim trots up to Malleus with his chest puffed out.
"Hear me out, Tall, Dark, and Spooky," Grim begins, sounding like heâs about to bestow a grave responsibility, "You better keep my henchhuman safe tonight. If anything happens to âem, Iâll⊠Iâll bite your ankles or somethinâ!"
You glance sideways at Grim, trying not to snicker. Malleus blinks once, twice, then solemnly nods. "Fear not, small creature," he says, placing a hand over his heart. "I shall protect them as though they were a rare treasure."
Grim gives a self-satisfied nod, satisfied with Malleusâs promise, but mutters under his breath, "Better be careful with those big words, pal. Youâll confuse yourself."
Malleus, seemingly oblivious to Grimâs muttering, reaches into his coat pocket and produces a delicate, ethereal flower that looks like it was plucked straight from a fairy tale. He offers it to you with a small, proud smile. "I thought this would suit you."
You accept the flower, grinning. "Itâs beautiful. But⊠Iâm going to put it in my hair so I can hold your hand instead."
Malleus blinks, looking a bit caught off guard but quickly recovering. "Of course." His eyes light up as he helps you tuck the flower into your hair, then immediately offers you his hand.
As your fingers intertwine with his, you catch a glimpse of Malleus looking rather pleased with himself. The two of you set off on your walk, and the cool night air feels refreshing as you stroll through the nearly deserted campus.
The silence between you isnât awkwardâitâs peaceful. You walk in step with Malleus, both of you just existing in the shared space. Occasionally, you glance over at him, and he meets your gaze with a small smile, looking like heâs perfectly content just to be here with you.
After a while, Malleus breaks the silence. "I hope you donât mind, but Iâve arranged for something a little⊠special tonight," he says, his tone carrying just a hint of mystery.
"Oh? What kind of âspecialâ?" you ask, curiosity piqued.
"Youâll see soon enough." Thereâs a mischievous glint in his eyes as he leads you to Diasomnia.
The moment you step inside, youâre hit with a scene that is, frankly, a chaotic masterpiece. The room has been transformedâor rather, overrunâwith blankets, pillows, and a massive screen set up at the front. It looks like a makeshift home theater⊠if home theaters had Malleus-themed decorations plastered everywhere.
Sebek, naturally, is standing near the entrance, looking way too serious for a casual movie night. You spot Silver, slouched on a couch, looking like heâs already resigned to his fate. And then thereâs Lilia, standing proudly beside what can only be described as an abomination of a dish.
"Welcome!" Lilia says, grinning as you take in the scene. "Iâve prepared a meal that will enhance your movie-watching experience!"
"By enhance, do you mean threaten our health?" Silver mutters under his breath.
Lilia just winks at you. "Itâs a very special recipe. A relic of ancient times!"
"More like an ancient curse," Silver mumbles, though he doesnât even try to argue anymore.
You bite back a laugh, eyeing the dish with mild suspicion. Itâs bubbling. Youâre pretty sure it shouldnât be bubbling.
"Yeah, I think Iâll pass on the ancient relic stew, but thanks," you say diplomatically, backing away just a little.
Malleus, meanwhile, is over by the movie selection, poring over the options like heâs deciding on the fate of the universe.
While you wait, you notice the postersâof Malleus. Everywhere. "Sebek," you say slowly, "why⊠are there so many Malleus posters?"
Sebek, looking proud as ever, gestures grandly at the posters. "Itâs only fitting to surround ourselves with the greatness of Lord Malleus during such a significant event!"
"You mean⊠movie night?" you ask, raising an eyebrow.
"Every moment spent in Lord Malleusâs presence is significant!" Sebek declares, his voice booming through the room.
You glance at Silver, whoâs barely staying awake on the couch. "Youâre just⊠going to let this happen?" you ask him.
Silver shrugs, not even opening his eyes. "I tried. He wouldnât listen."
Meanwhile, Lilia sidles up to you with a mischievous glint in his eyes. "Isnât this just the most romantic setting? Blankets, pillows, and the gentle glow of Malleus-themed lighting?" He wiggles his eyebrows at you suggestively.
You roll your eyes, but canât help but laugh. "Very romantic," you say dryly. "Nothing says âdate nightâ like staring at your dateâs face plastered on every surface."
Malleus returns, oblivious to the chaos unfolding around him, and gently takes your hand. "I believe Iâve found the perfect movie for us," he says.
You nod, smiling up at him, and soon the othersâafter a bit more banter (and an exaggerated wink from Lilia)âexcuse themselves, leaving you and Malleus alone. Well, alone except for the giant Malleus plushie youâve decided to cuddle.
"Youâre⊠quite fond of that plushie," Malleus remarks, clearly amused as you hug it to your chest.
You grin. "What can I say? Itâs cute. Though the real thing is a lot more handsome."
Malleus chuckles softly, his voice low and warm. "Iâm glad you think so."
The movie begins, but itâs hard to focus when youâre so comfortable, leaning against Malleus with the plushie in your arms. His presence is soothing, his warmth comforting, and before you know it, youâre resting your head on his shoulder.
Malleus tenses slightly at first, then relaxes, letting out a contented sigh. His fingers gently trace circles on your hand, and you can feel the smile tugging at his lips even though youâre not looking directly at him.
By the time the movie ends, youâre both so relaxed that moving feels like an unnecessary chore. But, eventually, Malleus stands and offers his hand to help you up.
"Shall I walk you back to your dorm?" he asks, his tone as soft as the night air outside.
You nod, still clutching the Malleus plushie. "Iâm keeping this, by the way."
Malleus looks genuinely pleased. "Iâm honored that you would want a keepsake of me."
You laugh softly, feeling a bit giddy as the two of you walk back to Ramshackle, hand in hand. The stars twinkle overhead, but all you can focus on is the warmth of Malleusâs hand in yours.
When you reach the dorm, Malleus stops at the entrance, gently lifting your hand to his lips for a soft kiss. "I hope you enjoyed our evening," he says, his voice low and sincere.
Your heart flutters, but before you can overthink it, you lean forward and kiss him on the cheek. "I did," you say, grinning. Then, with a quick wave, you bounce inside, feeling giddy and lighthearted.
Behind you, Malleus watches with that same soft, fond smileâthe one that makes you feel like youâre the one who hung the moon and stars in the sky.
Youâre making friendship bracelets. A totally normal, human, dorm-room craft project that you figured would be a simple way to spend time with Malleus. Only, you didn't realize that trying to explain the concept of âfriendship braceletsâ to a fae prince would result in the single most baffling night of his life.
â...so, wait.â He holds up the half-done bracelet, staring at it like itâs a cryptic relic. âThis braided string will signify⊠a bond?â
You nod enthusiastically, handing him another bead. âYep! Itâs a human tradition. It means youâre, like, symbolically connected, so whenever you look at the bracelet, you remember the person who made it for you.â
He stares at the half-finished bracelet with grave intensity, as if heâs holding a sacred relic. âSo, this⊠strand of colored threads⊠will tether me to you, even in times when we are apart?â
You nod again, trying not to giggle. âExactly. Just a cute, little reminder of our friendship.â
He considers this with such solemnity that you can practically see him pondering the metaphysical implications of colored yarn.
âWhat magic does it require?â he asks after a beat, fully serious.
You blink. âMagic? Oh, it doesnât need magic. Itâs⊠just a bracelet.â
His brow furrows, and he holds up his attempt at weaving, which, frankly, looks more like a knotted ball than anything close to a bracelet. âI see. So, human enchantments rely on symbolism rather than spells.â
You bite back a laugh. âUh⊠sure. Yeah, itâs symbolic magic.â
âFascinating.â He looks down at his tangled knot of yarn, nodding solemnly. âThen I must ensure my own⊠symbol is woven with the utmost care. For a bond such as ours, it must not unravel.â
Youâre halfway through yours when you realize heâs been muttering to himself, beads and string in hand, whispering things like, âMay this braid carry my promise of loyaltyâ and âI vow to protect our bond with the same devotion I would give the throne.â
He even brings his hand to his heart at one point, closing his eyes with the bracelet pressed to his chest. Youâre struggling not to laugh as he gives what is essentially a formal vow to the bracelet.
âMalleus,â you say, finally unable to hold it in, âyou know itâs just a bracelet, right? You donât have to swear a whole oath.â
He looks up, slightly flustered. âAh⊠right. Of course.â He clears his throat, but thereâs a bit of a pink tinge to his cheeks. âWell⊠if it carries the weight of our connection, I should still approach it with appropriate respect.â
You shake your head, suppressing a smile. âItâs honestly perfect just as it is.â
He holds out the knotted, lopsided braid heâs made, eyes gleaming. âThen, I present to you, my friendship⊠symbol.â
You accept it with a grin, tying it on. âThanks, Malleus. This might be the most intense friendship bracelet Iâve ever gotten.â
âOf course,â he replies, smiling gently. âIt is a pledge. And⊠Iâll think of you, whenever I see it.â
You bite back a laugh again, but honestly, his sincerity is so endearing you might just melt on the spot. And as you look at the knotted, chaotic masterpiece on your wrist, you realize youâve never loved a bracelet more.
You were desperate. No, reallyâabsolutely desperate. Lilia was busy with some mysterious âbusiness,â and Silver had fallen asleep before you even got your full sentence out. That leftâŠSebek.
But you thought maybe, just maybe, you could get him to help you pick out a gift for Malleus if you praised Malleus enough to keep him distracted and maybe, hopefully, get him to leave you alone once you found something.
Sebek, however, wasnât budging from your side.
âThis is a sacred duty!â he announced, as you entered the gift shop. âFor you to bring a gift worthy of Lord Malleusâs greatness, I shall assist! Do not think of slacking in this matter!â
âWouldnât dream of it,â you muttered under your breath. Oh, this was going to be a long day.
You wander through the aisles and spot a black dragon statuette. You figure, hey, itâs got that draconic charm Malleus likes, and itâs nice enough without screaming âI tried way too hard.â
âWhat about this?â you suggest.
Sebekâs nose wrinkles like you just offered him expired milk. âThis common tchotchke? Lord Malleus deserves something that reflects the grandiosity of his soul! This is but a disgrace!â
â...Okay,â you mumble, quickly putting the dragon back. âNoted. Next one.â
You take a deep breath, determined not to give up. You find a beautiful leather-bound book, the kind with fancy gold embossing that practically screams âI have depth and culture.â Perfect for Malleus, right?
Sebek looks at it, raises an eyebrow, and says with all the judgment he can muster, âA book? This is not some back-alley rummage sale! Lord Malleus is no mere scholarâhe is a being of power and mystery. A mere book is not worthy!â
Youâre starting to get a headache. âSebek, this isnât a sacred quest. Itâs just a gift.â
Sebek crosses his arms. âThen act like it!â
Youâre mentally calculating how long it would take to just make a break for it when you spot a crystal snow globe on a nearby shelf. Itâs got a tiny castle inside with delicate little frosted details and swirling glitter. Pretty cute, honestly.
âWhat about this one?â You hold it up, trying to sound as cheerful as possible.
Sebek stares at the snow globe, visibly appalled. âA snow globe? Are you trying to insinuate that Lord Malleus is some⊠carnival trinket vendor? This is an insult!â
You try to control your breathing. Itâs fine. Everythingâs fine.
Finally, you turn to him with a smile thatâs about five seconds from breaking. âSebek, it has been a pleasure. But I think Iâll, uh⊠figure it out myself from here.â
You barely hear him as he starts to object because youâre already halfway out the door.
Back at Ramshackle, an idea hits you. If you canât find a gift, you can make one. After scouring the dorm for supplies, you somehow put together a makeshift snow globe with a tiny gargoyle inside, swirling in blue and silver glitter. Itâs definitely handmade, but youâre sure Malleus will appreciate it.
Later that evening, you meet Malleus outside, heart pounding a bit as you hold out the homemade snow globe. âI⊠made this for you,â you say, offering it up.
Malleus takes it, eyes wide with wonder as he examines it, turning it in his hands to watch the glitter float around the little gargoyle. âDid you⊠make this yourself?â
âYeah,â you say, rubbing the back of your neck. âFigured youâd like it. And hey, itâs one of a kind, so⊠now you have something no one else does.â
Malleusâs expression softens, his smile growing into something that practically melts your heart. âAre you⊠courting me?â he asks, his tone almost mischievous.
You snort. âI am, actually. Thought Iâd ask you outâŠagain. Officially.â
Malleusâs eyes light up, and he pulls you into a gentle embrace, holding you as if youâre the rarest treasure. âThen I graciously accept,â he says, his voice warm with laughter.
Sebekâs probably going to be horrified, but thatâs a problem for future you. Right now, Malleus is looking at you with an expression that says youâre all heâs ever wanted, and thatâs more than enough.
Malleus Draconia storming into the infirmary was a sight to behold. The door nearly flew off its hinges as he strode in, casting a long shadow over the entire room. Rain poured against the windows like someone had flipped on a faucet, lightning crackling ominously outside as he zeroed in on you with eyes that couldâve cut glass.
âChild of Man,â he intoned, voice a few shades too deep and dark. âI heard you were hurt.â
You, sitting up on the infirmary bed, waved a hand quickly. âMalleus, Iâm fine! Iâm totally fine! Ace actually took most of the fall for me.â
At that, Malleusâs intense gaze shifted to Ace, who was lying in the bed next to you, bruised, bandaged, and looking a bit like a disaster but still somehow smug. His grin only widened as Malleus took him in, and for once, Ace didnât seem to have any wisecracks. Not yet, at least.
âReally, Iâm okay, Malleus,â you reassured him again, reaching out to gently tug on his sleeve, trying to bring him back to reality. âIt was just⊠a minor accident.â
Malleus let out a breath, his shoulders finally relaxing, and the rain outside softened to a drizzle. But when he saw Ace's injuries, a faint gleam of green magic sparked in his eyes. With a murmured spell, Malleus extended a hand over Ace, and a warm green light enveloped him, healing the bruises and cuts in seconds.
Ace blinked, absolutely dumbfounded as he patted himself down, looking at his newly healed skin. âWoah, hold on. Did⊠did I just get fae-healed?â He threw a proud glance at Deuce, who looked equally impressed.
âGuess saving someone as important as the prefect has its perks, huh?â Ace grinned, milking the moment for all it was worth.
Deuce elbowed him, eyes wide. âDude, you got a fae to use magic on you! Thatâs like⊠thatâs gotta be worth something!â
Malleus, however, seemed completely unaware of their astonishment. He turned back to you, his expression softening. âIâm relieved to see you unharmed, but perhaps we should consider⊠measures to avoid this in the future.â
You tilted your head, a bit wary of his tone. âMeasures?â
âYes.â Malleus nodded, serious as ever. âI will procure a shield for you. Perhaps one enchanted with protective charms, powerful enough to withstand nearly any impact.â His hand closed over yours, his gaze softening but his words completely, utterly sincere. âIâd rather not see you in danger again.â
At this, you couldnât hold back a snicker. âA⊠shield? Malleus, thatâs sweet, but I think a little protective magic might be overkill.â
âAbsolutely not,â Malleus replied, as if youâd suggested something truly absurd. âOr perhaps I should assign a member of my guard to you. It would be a temporary arrangement, of course.â
Ace, never one to let an opportunity slip by, piped up. âOooh, how about Sebek? Heâd follow them around like a watchdog. âHuman, beware of the tripping hazard!â âHuman', allow me to carry your books to avoid any injury!ââ
You laughed so hard at the impression that you nearly slid off the bed. Deuce tried his best to look like he was keeping it together, but the way his shoulders shook betrayed him.
Malleus, apparently unfazed by your amusement, looked back at you with a raised eyebrow. âYou mock my concerns, yet I believe this is a practical solution.â
âOh, I know you do,â you said, wiping your eyes. âBut, trust me. Iâll be okay without a magical shield or a Sebek bodyguard. Especially since, wellâŠâ You softened, leaning into his chest and giving his back a comforting pat. âYouâre here to keep me safe, arenât you?â
The room went still as Malleusâs expression softened even further, his entire face lighting up at your words. The last of the rain disappeared, leaving only a golden sunset spilling light through the windows.
Meanwhile, Ace watched the two of you with a half-joking pout. âDamn. Imagine being favored by a fae prince and dropping that kind of romantic line. If only Malleus was this concerned with my safety.â
Deuce crossed his arms, pretending to ponder. âYou think we could get fae security if we also hung out with the prefect all the time?â
Grim, whoâd been lounging on your bed, rolled his eyes. âListen, you two can argue all you want, but Iâm the one who gets the most danger-protection, and donât you forget it!â
Ignoring the three, you glanced back at Malleus. âSeriously, I donât need any magic armor, Malleus. As long as youâre around, Iâll be okay.â
For a moment, Malleus just looked at you, a rare and breathtaking smile spreading across his face. Slowly, he raised your hand to his lips, pressing a kiss there, the gentleness of the gesture stealing your breath.
âI shall remain, then,â he murmured, his voice as warm as the sunset. âThough my offer still stands should you ever change your mind.â
You grinned, leaning forward to kiss him on the cheek. âNoted, Your Highness. Iâll let you know.â
With a parting wink and one last hand squeeze, Malleus let you settle back, his gaze lingering on you with an affectionate warmth that softened all the edges of his normally intense demeanor. If youâd known heâd go this far over one little mishap, maybe youâd have considered more dangerous hobbies just to see that side of him.
The rain was no ordinary downpour, that much was certain. It came in waves, sweeping across the campus like a brewing tempest, soaking students to the bone if they dared step outside. But as the day dragged on and the storm grew more intense, you were pretty sure you knew who was behind it.
Youâd tried calling Malleus several timesâthree missed calls, four, five⊠and each time, the rain seemed to pour harder. You knew this wasn't just a storm; it was his storm, and whatever caused it had to be serious. When Malleus finally didnât answer his phone on the sixth call, you felt your worry rise and dialed Lilia instead.
âAh, youâve noticed?â Liliaâs voice came through, light but with a hint of concern. âMalleus isnât usually this⊠temperamental. Why donât you come by Diasomnia? I think you might be able to reach him better than anyone right now.â
As the rain continued pounding outside, Lilia whisked you to the dark halls of Diasomnia, both of you making your way to Malleusâs dorm room. You raised your hand and knocked, waiting. Nothing. You glanced at Lilia, who gave you an encouraging nod. You turned the handle slowly, easing the door open.
Inside, Malleus was seated by his window, staring out at the rain-soaked world like some tragic hero in a romance novel. His usually strong and dignified presence seemed... deflated. His shoulders were hunched, and his entire form looked as if it was weighed down by an unseen burden.
"Malleus?" you said gently.
He turned, his eyes widening just slightly at the sight of you. But then his gaze dropped, and he returned to staring out at the rain. âWhy did you come?â he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
âWhy wouldnât I? Youâre clearly upset,â you replied, crossing the room to stand by his side.
He stayed quiet for a moment, as though gathering his thoughts. âI overheard some students talking⊠about us,â he said slowly, bitterness edging his words. âThey said our relationship is⊠impossible. That it wonât last because weâre too different. That youâd never want to live somewhere like Briar Valley⊠and thatââ His voice broke slightly, and he hesitated. âThat no human in their right mind would choose a life there with me.â
His words felt like a dagger, and you could see the depth of his hurt in the way he clenched his hands. The thought of him hearing such hurtful things from people who didn't even know him, didnât know you, sparked something protective in you. You sat down beside him, reaching out to place your hand over his.
âMalleus, those people donât know anything,â you said softly but firmly. âThey only see what they want to see. But they donât see you.â
âBut⊠they arenât wrong, are they?â His voice was so low it almost broke your heart. ïżœïżœïżœBriar Valley is⊠a kingdom of fae, ancient and isolated. And I⊠I am not like you. I am seen as a figure of fear by many.â
âStop it.â You squeezed his hand, forcing him to look at you. âMalleus, youâre not âgloomyâ or âscary.â Youâre thoughtful and kind. And as for Briar ValleyâŠâ You took a deep breath, your eyes shining. âIâd follow you to a volcano if you asked me to, Malleus. And Briar Valley sounds lovely in comparison.â
He blinked, looking genuinely taken aback. âYou⊠mean that?â
âOf course I do.â You felt a smile tugging at your lips, leaning closer to him. âMalleus, Iâm⊠Iâm in love with you. I donât care about where we are, as long as weâre together. Besides, Iâd visit my friends; itâs not like Iâd be vanishing off the face of the earth.â
He stared at you, wide-eyed, as if youâd just declared the moon was his for the taking. âYou⊠love me?â His voice was barely a whisper, disbelief and hope warring in his gaze.
You squeezed his hand tighter. âYes, you big dramatic dragon, I do. I love you exactly as you are.â Then, unable to resist, you smiled and added, âYouâre one of the best things thatâs ever happened to me. And, if Iâm being honest, I think you make a perfect Prince Charming.â
At that, he let out a surprised chuckle, one that you felt all the way to your heart. The rain began to lighten outside, but Malleus wasnât finished yet. âBut⊠would you truly want to come with me to Briar Valley after graduation?â he asked, searching your face, as if afraid the answer might change.
Your lips curved into a teasing smile. âIs that a proposal, Malleus?â
He blinked, looking at you with such intense sincerity that it made you catch your breath. âPerhaps it is⊠if that is what you desire.â
You couldnât help it; you laughed, reaching up to touch his cheek. âMalleus, letâs take this one step at a time. Itâs a little too early for marriage, but yes⊠Iâll come with you. No hesitation.â
Relief washed over his face, his shoulders visibly relaxing as he let out a long, contented sigh. Then, before you knew it, he was cupping your face gently, pulling you close, and pressing his lips softly against yours, his touch filled with both relief and quiet joy. You melted into the kiss, feeling the world around you fall away.
When you finally pulled back, you stayed wrapped up in each other, Malleus resting his forehead against yours. âThank you,â he murmured, his voice as soft as the rain beginning to stop outside.
And then, as if by magic, the sun began to peek through the clouds. You glanced out the window and gaspedâa beautiful rainbow stretched across the sky, its colors bright and vivid against the softening gray.
Outside in the hallway, Lilia noticed the sudden sunlight flooding through the windows. He smirked, crossing his arms as he gazed out at the sky. âWell now,â he murmured to himself with a knowing smile. âIt seems the storm has finally passed.â
Briar Valley's winding paths had become second nature to you. From the thorn-laden trees to the misty moors, it was all oddly comforting now, a world youâd somehow made your own despite the constant whispers of âThat magicless human will last a month, tops.â
Yet here you were, strolling with Silver and Grim by your side, perfectly at ease as the Fae here had learned to both respect you andâsurprisingly enoughâgrow fond of you. Perhaps it was your persistence, or maybe the sight of how Malleus practically glowed around you had softened their opinion. Regardless, Silverâs calm, quiet presence made the walk feel almost peaceful.
Silverâs voice pulled you from your thoughts. âWould you take a detour with me for a moment?â
âUh⊠sure.â You raised an eyebrow but couldnât ignore the curiosity blooming inside.
Grim, still trotting alongside you, glanced up with a huff. âIf itâs not back to the palace for a feast, count me out. Iâm starving!â
He took you off the main path, weaving through a side route cloaked in the kinds of flowers that only seemed to bloom under the moonlight, until you reached the garden.
You noticed the unmistakable glimmer of fae lights strung up along the branches, casting an enchanting glow. Beneath them was a breathtaking arrangement: intricate flowers, delicate linens, and candles flickering gently as if they held their own breath, waiting.
âSilver⊠whatâs this?â you turned to him, only to find heâd vanished, leaving you alone. Grim, however, was very much there, sitting and squinting at the setup as if trying to make sense of it.
âYou think heâd at least stick around to explain,â Grim muttered, tail twitching.
Your heart raced, realizing exactly what this setup meant before even seeing him.
And then, as if stepping straight out of a fairytale, Malleus appeared. His dark attire blended almost seamlessly into the night, but his eyes were alive with a glint that made him stand out against everything else. You swallowed, feeling your pulse thud as he lowered himself onto one knee, reaching out to you with a small velvet box in hand.
âWill youââ
You were already nodding so vigorously that he chuckled, his deep voice warm and delighted as he tried to finish. âI have barely started, my love.â
âSorry, sorry! Iâm listening,â you said, though your feet were already itching to close the distance.
âWill you marry me?â His voice was low, intimate, every word wrapping around you as if sealing the two of you together. You swore the whole garden held its breath as the weight of his question sank in.
âYes!â You practically launched yourself into his arms, the momentum nearly sending him off balance. Your arms wrapped around his neck as you pressed a kiss to his lips, almost dizzy with excitement. He held you firmly, and you could feel his smile against your mouth as he returned the kiss, slow and heartfelt.
When you finally pulled back, catching your breath, you heard the sound of clappingâraucous, joyous applause. Looking over, you spotted Lilia, Silver, Sebek, and Grim, all watching with varying degrees of excitement. Lilia wore a proud, delighted grin, and even Silver looked softer than usual.
Sebek, meanwhile, was visibly struggling to hold back tears, sniffing and blinking rapidly. âMy prince⊠has found his belovedâŠâ
Lilia cackled, nudging him with a wicked grin. âOh, Sebek! Who wouldâve thought youâd be the emotional one? How poetic!â
âI am not emotional!â Sebek said, wiping his eyes. âIâm simply⊠moved by the occasion!â
Silver shook his head, though his smile remained gentle as he murmured, âWelcome to the family.â
And then there was Grim, who was glaring daggers at anyone who dared glance in his direction. âPfft⊠itâs⊠itâs not like I care, or anything. Dust got in my eyes, thatâs all,â he grumbled, pawing at his face, though his sniffling was obvious.
âOh, Grim,â you laughed, reaching over to scratch behind his ears. He let out a small, begrudging purr, though he immediately caught himself and huffed, turning his back on you all with an indignant âHmph.â
Malleus turned to them, unable to hide his own joy as he held you close. âThank you, all of you,â he said, his voice thick with emotion. Your eyes twinkle with mischief as you add, âI suppose you three canât get rid of me now.â
Malleus chuckles, and Lilia grinned, placing a hand on his chest as he gave you a dramatic bow. âWe wouldnât dream of it. I mean, youâre the only one whoâs managed to survive here, make Malleus happy, and deal with Sebek. That alone earns you a medal.â
Sebek opened his mouth, clearly ready to defend himself, but Silver beat him to it with a subtle nudge. âCome on, Sebek. You know itâs true.â
âFine, butââ Sebek cut himself off with a sigh, his expression softening once more. âI am happy for you, truly.â
You beamed, touched by the sincerity in his voice. You knew Sebekâs respect wasnât easy to earn, but it made the moment even more meaningful.
Lilia clapped his hands together, eyes dancing with mischief. âOh, the Briar Valley will be singing tales of this day for centuries. Iâll make sure of it.â
âLilia,â Malleus said, a warning in his tone. âPlease donât exaggerate.â
âOh, I donât need to exaggerate,â Lilia said with a gleeful grin, his eyes alight with a hundred mischievous ideas. âYouâve done that for me by being your overly poetic self. âThe magicless one who tamed the dragon princeâ will practically write itself.â
âPerhaps we could skip the âtamingâ part,â you muttered, blushing at Liliaâs teasing. But you caught Malleusâs gaze, and the depth of emotion there silenced everything else.
He pulled you close, his forehead resting gently against yours. âWe can let them say whatever they wish,â he murmured, his voice for your ears alone. âSo long as youâre by my side.â
âAlways,â you whispered back, and as his arms held you close, you glanced over to see the others clapping and cheeringâand yes, even Grim was sitting proudly beside Silver, nodding as if this had all been his doing.
The future had never looked brighter.

.â ïœĄâ *â ⥠Day thirteen: Playing with Malleus
.â ïœĄâ *â ⥠A/n: Back to my platonic agenda, imagine playing with Malleus đ„șđ„ș. I bet it would be so fun too, who care if i make a deal with a fae? It would be worth it!
"Higher, please!" You screamed in glee.
Malleus' magic lifted you into the air as high as the trees in the forest you were playing with. You could almost touch the highest branches of the trees. But still, in your childish mind, it wasn't high enough. You wanted more. More of the winds caressing your face and making your hair fly everywhere, the birds greeting you with their sweet voices as you waved to them.
"Higher, mister fae!" You asked of him again, voice a little airy from loud you were laughing and screaming.
"You're quite courageous for a child of man," Malleus mused, making a face so to pretend he was actually thinking about your innocent request.
"One might even say too courageous," Malleus added, his voice tinged with amusement as he lifted you even higher. This time, you were almost at the top of the tallest tree, your small hands reaching out as if to touch the sky itself.
"Mister Fae, you're the best! Higher!" you pleaded, trusting him without question, unaware of the ancient power flowing through his veins or the tales whispered about his kind. To you, he was simply your magical friend, someone who made the world more wonderful.
He was a little strange sometimes but he made you laugh, played with you and let you braid flowers into his horns. He is your best friend.
"Such faith," Malleus murmured, his emerald eyes glowing faintly. "Itâs rare, you know, for a child of man to trust a fae so willingly." He lowered you just slightly, letting your feet dangle inches from the ground before he pulled you back up again, watching the way your eyes sparkled with excitement.
You pouted, unsatisfied with this teasing. "Mister Fae, I don't care if you aren't human! We're friends, you promised!"
"Ah, yes," He hummed thoughtfully, a little smile on his lips as he thought about your promise. He let you hover in the air, his magic coiling around you like a protective blanket. "Tell me, little one, do you know what it means to make a promise with a fae?"
You shook your head, still smiling. "Nope! But I know youâll keep it, right?"
Malleusâ smile widened, though it did not reach his eyes. "Indeed, I will. For you see, in my world, a promise is not so easily broken. It is a bond, a pact, that lasts⊠forever."
Your eyes widened with awe rather than fear, and you nodded eagerly, almost excitedly. "Then let's make another promise: weâll be best friends forever!"
Another smile graces his face, a warm feeling spreading through his chest. "Is that what you want, beastie?"
You nodded eagerly.
"Then forever it is," Malleus echoed, his voice soft yet laced with an unspoken warning. He let you down gently, his magic dissipating, but his gaze never left yours.
He knelt to meet your eyes, his clawed hand gently tilting your chin up. "Youâve made a deal with a fae, little one. You are mine now, bound to me by your own words."
You giggled, completely misunderstanding the gravity of his words. "Does that mean you'll always play with me, Mister Fae?"
Malleus chuckled, low and dark, his eyes were shining.
"Yes," He whispered, his breath cold against your skin, sweat clinging to your skin from how much you had ran around. "I will always be with you, beastie. No matter where you go, no matter how much time passes, I shall find you. We are bound by our promise."
And in that moment, as you beamed up at him with all the innocence of a child, Malleus knew there would be no escape for you. Not from him. Not ever.
You were friends now and forever. And a dragon fae like him never lets his friends go; you are his little treasure.

Letters from Lovers
Transcriptions of the letters from the various gear store items. under cut for length.
Isabela:
âMy dear Hawke, Do you know anyone with a flock of parrots? I'm trying to cheat on a bet with Varric and the stakes are exceedingly high. If you help me, I shall take you to that breathtaking beach you so crave. Free of ancient horrors, too. I think. I'd hate to take respite from all my adventures, but there are other ways to make the heart flutter. In fact I'm already imagining a few. Aren't you? Sailing there can be fatal, but Admiral Isabela will keep you safe. Are you interested? I would love to see you again. Yours, Isabelaâ
Morrigan:
âMy love, Now before that grin reaches your ears, perish the thought that this letter was my idea. 'Tis Kieran who would not give me peace until I wrote to ask how you are faring. Regale us, if you please, with another of your tales that I might read to him in bed. He is particularly fond of those wherein you spur mischief whilst you save the day. Thank you for your most delightful gifts. I shall make certain to wear them the next time you come home. Dream of me until then, my Hero of Ferelden, and have a care. Morriganâ
Dorian:
âMy dearest Amatus, Home is ever as it was: a glittering whirl of dancing, politics, and murder. I'm used to people staring daggers at me - I quite relish it, actually - but the glares seem to possess a new intensity since my return to Tevinter. Do they disapprove of House Pavus freeing its slaves while I work in the Magisterium to end slavery across Tevinter? Perhaps they simply covet my cheekbones, and who could blame them? Real reform will take time, but we're making inroads. I miss you terribly, Amatus, perhaps almost as much as you miss me. I treasure you and your belief in my work here. Yours always, Dorian P.S. I wouldn't take it amiss if you might send me another barrel of that dreadful Fereldan beer?â
Alistair:
âMy love, How are you? Is it true that you recently killed darkspawn with only a mean glare and a pointy stick? Ferelden is ablaze with this rumor! You do give people so much hope. Tales of your heroism never fail to astonish me and almost ease the pain of going to sleep without you by my side. Almost. I can't wait to be with you again. I'd bring you some roses, you could give me a tour of the keep, we'd drink with the new recruits and then cuddle in a tent. Without the new recruits! Tent time is just for the two of us. I want to make that clear. Now excuse me while I practice my death glare and rummage through the dog's stash of sticks. I love you. Yours forever, Alistair.â
The Iron Bull:
âKadan, You wonât believe what I did today. I got a guy to flip! Twice! So yes, all is well. Except for all the demons. And this whole thing in which Iâm far away from the love of my life. Really keeps me up at night. Anyway, you hearing these rumors of a dragon on the loose? Yeah! The boys and I are on its trail. Last I heard, it was flying toward the Frostback Mountains. Can you join us? I hope youâre not uh⊠all tied up. Donât worry, Iâm fairly certain itâs not a Ben-Hassrath trap. And if it is, you know Iâm prepared. Ataash varin kata! I love you, Kadan. See you soon. The Iron Bull.â
Tali:
âBy the way, I left something for you up in your cabin. Go have a look.â - TaliâZorah --- âDear Shepard,  As you may remember, I presented this picture frame to you as a gift on the Normandy. It was my way of expressing my admiration for you and our bond as comrades-in-arms. On the back of the metal frame, I've emblazoned a promise that will never fade - 'Shepard, wherever you go, I'm with you.' I know it's not much, but...this is what I look like under the mask. I'm sorry if it's not what you were expecting. I know Quarian faces can be a bit...different. Every time you look at my picture, I hope you will be reminded of our adventures on the Normandy, from our battles against the Reapers to our intimate conversations in the privacy of our quarters.   I am not one to express my emotions openly, but thank you for being my friend, my confidante, and my inspiration. I look forward to many more adventures together. Keelah seâlai,  TaliâZorahâ
Another letter from Tali:
"Whatever the galaxy throws at us, I'll be at your side. - Tali" --- "Shepard It's been a while since I last struggled to sleep. You must be dreaming of falling through a fish tank or starring in a hanar vid? I can hear you muttering about jellyfish. It's funny. I've spent my whole life hoping for the future, but these days nothing scares me more. Keelah, why can't we stop time? Even for just a little bit? No war, no Reapers, nobody counting on us. Just you and me, as free as the dust in the solar wind. When this is all over, will you settle down on Rannoch with me? I love you. - Tali"
Bonus:
Shepard's N7 acceptance letter, from Anderson:
âN7 Congratulations on your graduation From Captain David Anderson Shepard, When I graduated from the N7 program I had the honor of meeting Admiral Grissom, the man who inspired me to pursue a career in the service, and I never thought Iâd feel prouder in my life. I was mistaken. Donât get me wrong, it was a big day. An important day. But thereâs something about welcoming driven young people like yourself into the ranks thatâs also pretty damn satisfying. Your distinguished service record may have gotten you into this program - but it was your courage, integrity, and tenacity thatâs enabled you to join an elite few. You represent the best of humanity, and I feel certain youâll make the galaxy a better place. And Iâm not the only one who feels this way. Becoming an N7 means the entire Systems Alliance is telling you one thing - we believe in you. Let me end by saying this. Welcome to the team Shepard. We know you wonât let us down. if willing, I would love to see the Bride with a witchy GF?
I know weâve only seen two episodes so this could be considered soft bride content until I get to see more of these beautiful characters.
She was brought to life by science.
You harnessed magic within your very veins.
Once upon a time you wouldnât have thought that youâd be able to get through to Bride, she kept her walks up and for good reason, you could sense her pain and her anguish through it whether you were trying to or not.
You still remembered even now the first things you said to her upon first meeting her and still you couldnât help but chuckle at how far youâve both come as you show her small feats of your rather dangerous magic. âMy magic senses that somethings amiss within you, bride.â
Her response;
âCan your magic also sense that I want you to fuck off and leave me alone?â
You didnât came within vicinity of her for a good while after that and stuck rather closely to the likes of Nina and Dr phosphorus instead. Your first meeting wasnât love at first sight, more like hostility until youâve known her long enough for her to actually bring herself to care for you, and you gladly accepted her request-despite it having been said in a rather blunt manner- and gave her space until you were required to go out on missions; which you found was a rarity as Amanda Waller loved to keep tricks up her sleeves until it was convenient for her to let you all out.
It wasnât only until recently did you discover that you did like each others company. So fast forward to the present day and here you were, cradling bride again your chest with one hand on her waist while the other was in front of her and showing her amazing illusions of animals, people or even fireworks with your magic to put her mind at ease.
âYouâre such a show off you know that.â She tells you but you could tell that she was being playful with how she seemed to relax further again your hold.
âIf helping you with my powers showing offs then I guess I should try and go for a more grandiose approach with my powers next time then shall I?â You rhetorically asked with a smirk upon your face before she gently elbows you in the stomach. âDonât. The last time you tried to conjure up an illusion of a unicorn and it ran right through Phosphorus.â Bride cackled as she recalled the memory, burying her head into the crook of your neck as you admire her, loving the fact that you were the only person who got to see this side of her and love for it as you did the side sheâs always shown others.
You couldnât help but laugh alongside her as you could clearly remember phosphorus asking if he was high or did he just got attacked by a cute looking unicorn. It wasnât long for everyone to know it was you, but thankfully phosphorus took it in stride, finding the humour in it all but bride never let you live it down as the face you made was far too priceless for her joy to tear you about it. âYou never let me forget! My nickname was unicorn for a good few weeks!â You replied, squeezing her against you just a little bit tighter, not wanting to ever let her go.
âIt still is!â Bride exclaims as she looks at you, looking completely different to how she looked in front of the others. Her scowl was gone and replaced with more soft and relaxed features as her lips, once only used to convey a scowl, scoff or frown, was spread from one side of her stitched face to the other in happiness. She looked beautiful in that moment and you couldnât help but get a little flustered in the cheeks when staring at her for too long, it was just the effect she had on you even long after your relationship started; You treasured such a sight greatly and deeply to your heart as your mind etched this moment into your memories forever.
âOnly you call me unicorn!â You retorted with a pout as you pressed your head against hers. âWas it really that funny?â
Bride catches her breath as she wishes a tear from her eye. âOh darling you have no idea how funny your face was when the unicorn ran through phosphorus, knocking him backwards a couple of feet, you could barely look him in the eye sockets without apologising profusely.â She tells you with a wide smile and knowing eyes as she pressed her forehead against yours, enjoying the look on your face now as she always did, loving how expressive you face was when it came to certain things and how alive and warm they made you seem.
âThank the gods he wasnât a pissy bitch about it either.â You added as you weaved your magic to make a couple of butterflies flutter across the room, illuminating everything as they did before coming back and landing on some part of bride, making her look more ethereal then she already did in your eyes. The moment in your room was calm again as you and bride looked on at your creations in awe and wonder as they flew like birds , galloped like horses, walked like humans and swam like fishes before your very eyes. You loved your magic and you could tell that bride was coming to enjoy magic too, but only your magic was her preferred magic to admire and watch up close as she did now.
Her hand slowly reaching out to touch a bird, making it land on her outstretched finger, which made her smile softly as the bird greeted her with a plethora of harmonious tweets. âYour magic calms me.â She tells you softly.
âIâm glad.â You tell her while kissing the side of her head and down to her jawline. âAll my life I thought I was too dangerous to touch but you made me rethink all of that when you told I was a mere street magician who uses pulleys and parlour tricks to put on a show. Now look at you, in my arms and enjoying the show you once hated.â You add as you kissed her nose before pecking her on her rosey plush lips, smiling.
âSo whoâs entertaining who?â You add rhetorically as bride groaned but kissed you on the lips softly, making you hum in delight.
âI am, and Iâd have to say youâre not bad, for a street magician.â She said affectionately as she made herself comfortable again you, feeling herself becoming needy with sleep and your affection that you so graciously giving her after so long, she could finally breath within your presence and that was all the magic she could ever ask for.
You beamed brightly as you leaned against the headboard of your bed, watching as a pair of swans flew past you both before you waved a hand and made them transform into a cluster of stars that blanketed the ceiling, brining forth a pleasant soothing feeling to the room as they twinkled like actual stars. âJust doing whatever my lady wishes of me. Just tell me anything your heart desires and I shall have it brought to you however I can.â You tell her truthfully, wanting nothing more than to make your girlfriend happy.
Bride looks to you and smiles, the kaleidoscope of colours that bathed her only emphasised her existing beauty to new heights for you. âI only need you.â She says as she leaned in to kiss you fully on the lips, her hand holding your jaw as yours held her back and hips to draw her closer as you melted in her embrace as she did in yours, the cluster of stars having over your both peacefully as they watched two people embrace one another wholeheartedly.

seriously doesnt matter if you got game or not, percy is literally oblivious and a LOSERRRRR
im so sorry but somebody had to say it
bro had THE BIGGEST crush on you and whenever he'd try to like compliment you itd usually sound a little weird
tell me why he'd probably say something like
"i like your outfit today! that shirt for sure looks better with those jeans than it did with the shorts you wore 2 weeks ago :)"
lil creep
cue silena crying in the corner because she made a bet with beckendorf and it is NOT looking good for her right now
WE NEVER GO OUT OF STYLE.
you guys are iconic
like well-known power couple
I'D be scared to train with you guys cause like what do you MEAN i gotta go against the best swordsmen at camp and the daughter of the king of the gods??
no thank you, i choose life âĄ
when people are asked to think of a couple, they immediately think of you guys
everybody loves you guys for real
if you ever broke up ( which you wont, percy would probably just say "no" ) itd probably leave everybody super torn
ITD BE LIKE IN GILMORE GIRLS WHEN LORELAI AND LUKE BROKE UP AND THE WHOLE TOWN LIKE TOOK SIDES
if you havent watched gilmore girls, that basically sums the situation up. lorelai is literally like the town's sweetheart and luke is the owner of the most popular diner in their small town ⥠very cutesy
so sorry for the spoiler
SALLY LOVESSS YOU
she's literally so sweet and treats you as if you were her own child
she'd definitely bake cookies when you first meet and if you liked them, you best believe you are being sent back to camp with a baggie full of cookies
cant love you as much as percy does though !!
youre literally his queen
( sorry i say literally a lot )
he treats you like royaltyyyyy
always opening doors for you, walks you everywhere, follows the sidewalk rule, everything âĄ
when its raining, he picks you up bridal style and takes you wherever you need to go, so you dont get your shoes wet âĄâĄ
yall literally live in the rain tho
neither of you leave your cabin with an umbrella, the rain just gives you life
AND I DONT KNOW WHY BUT WITH YOU ID DANCE IN A STORM IN MY BEST DRESS FEARLESS
one time, you went out for a fancy dinner, got dressed up all nice very fancy very fancy
BUT you BOTH forgot to check the weather
and it ended up POURING rain by the time you got out of the restaurant
and i kid you not
percy just grabs you by the hand, leads you out into the rain, and begins to dance with you.
no coverage, no music, no fucks given. just him and his girl.
he treasures that moment forever and ever
all the gods looked down at you from olympus and melted
neither of you care if you're disrespecting your fathers, you spend almost every night together âĄ
percy is absolutely a big cuddler
literally just adores the feeling of you close to him
oh lord save him his drug is his baby he'll be using for the rest of his life
falling asleep together is so easy, you just melt into each other's touch
waking up is what's harder
neither of you want to leave the bed, and neither of you want the other person to leave the bed either.
percy's the typa guy to just have a sweet little conversation with you before he gets up for the day
you always get a good morning ( and a good night! ), then percy asks you what's on your schedule for the day ( as if he hasn't memorized it by now ), and what you wanted for breakfast that morning
he simply cannot get up without it
he's also the type of guy to just whisper sweet nothings into your ear if he wakes up before you âĄ
he just goes on a little ramble about how pretty you look when your sleeping, even though you are sleeping while he's 'talking' to you
sorry where was i?
ZEUS.
the bastrard HATES percy and percy HATES the bastard
theyve literally been beefing since he was 12 years old
so best believe when zeus found out his daughter was dating this son of poseidon??? oo he was PISSEDDD.
poseidon is literally so chill with you. like he just cares that percy is happy. seriously doesn't care about who your dad is. if anything, he already sees you as family
zeus holds back everything in him to not kill percy on the spot every time you make out
he doesn't do it because he knows you'd probably walk to the underworld to get him back and hades would go feral if he got another orpheus & eurydice
percy gives zero fucks. he flips off the sky every time he walks outside
percy is so sweet and caring and kind and shows your father such respect like hes literally an angel đđ
i wouldn't say that he starts like actually respecting him, but he tries not to offend him as often as usual, just for you âĄ
in the scenario that you'd have to make a trip to olympus, percy and zeus put on their big boy pants and try to tolerate each other
hera dont like you or percy bro she's literally just there
its okay though, you both despise her for kidnapping percy and wiping his memory âĄâĄâĄ
JASON AND THALIA HOWEVER
thalia would definitely be the dramatic dad that zeus cant be (in person, at least)
whenever she and the hunters stay at camp she ( jokingly ) tells percy
"jackson, i want her home by NINE PEE EM. no later. i expect you won't be drinking, and you will be TAKING CARE OF HER. in the instance that i hear you DONT, i think you'll be taking a second trip across the river styx, you hear me?"
in like an sergeant voice and everything
percy plays along with it and salutes her going "yes ma'am!"
jason thinks you are so cute together
since you were at camp when the whole switcheroo thing happened, jason knew you first, and you were instantly best buddies
you told him about percy, and once he met him, he was happy to find out he was exactly like you described him
jason and thalia are ur #1 supporters âĄ
in summary, alexa play that should be me

On Muddied Stones
Part Three of this pirate!au. Stubborn, self-sacrificing love because sometimes we don't realize what's best for the people you love is you. 18+ warning, beginnings of smut that gets cut off, MDNI. Angst and a bit of a cliffhanger. ~2.5k words
Your husband guides you into the store, smiling easily as he leads you towards a mannequin, "Welcome to Vixen's. Mari is the best at what she does."
You tilt your head curiously, "And pirates would know which seamstresses are the best?"
He laughs a little, "She is the best designer, treasure, you'll see," and he lowers his voice to lean down and whisper, "But she's also the best weapons smuggler on this coast."
"Oh," you murmur, surprise pitching in your voice.
He grins widely at you and pulls your hand up to kiss your fingers, "Pick out anything you want, love, I'll be right back." You watch quietly for a moment as he steps away and disappears behind a curtain leading to the back of the store.
You start to busy yourself by picking over materials and colors of the displayed clothes, eventually settling on a dark gray, cotton cloak with a hood. It will suit the purpose of blending in with a crowd. You fidget with the material between your fingers, lost in thought.
"Is that all you picked?" Jason's voice draws you to attention and your gaze flicks to his.
"It's all I needed," You tell him, eyes trailing to the women gracefully walking out from behind the curtain. She gives you a knowing smile and a wave.
"Ah, I figured as much. Mari will have some things sent to the ship for you," he says idly, taking the cloak from your hands.
"Things?" You question, "But I don't needâ"
"You do need, my love," Jason cuts in, gently pulling the cloak around your shoulders and fastening the clasp. "I took you to my ship with nothing but the clothes on your back. Allow me to remedy that, and have things of your own brought to our cabin."
He leans forward and presses a kiss to the crown on your head, then draws the hood up, voice fond, "A perfect fit. Do you like it?"
"I do, thank you," you answer softly, and you find yourself leaning into his touch.
"Good, I'm glad you approve, darling," Jason says, tracing his thumb over your cheek affectionately, "I would keep you like this forever, if I could, but I believe we have more things on your list to buy."
"Don't we have to pay?" You ask, eyes darting over to Mari, who offers you a sly smile and a wink.
"All taken care of," Jason answers, nodding to Mari as he takes your hand, leading you back out onto the streets. "Shall we get your hair pins next, my love?"
"Iâ yes," You mumble, reeling slightly at how sweet this is. How much of your husband you still recognize in the man most people fear. It makes guilt coil in your stomach, at the thought that you've been planning to leave. But how much can a few weeks of kindness make up for years of separation?
He squeezes your hand, and leads you along to a stall with a variety of scarves and pins and handkerchiefs, "Here, treasure. Take your time."
You pick over the hair pins slowly, selecting three. A simple, glossy black pin. A shiny silver pin, dotted with glistening red gems. And pin engraved with a golden snake, its eyes made of piercing green emeralds.
"And this one," your husband says, holding up a pin with a rose etched from silver.
You falter, "Our gardens had roses. You planted them after we got married."
"Aye, I remember," he says fondly, and carefully sets the pin in your hair. He nods in approval and digs a few coins out of his leather pouch, dropping it in the vendor's hand, all without taking his eyes from you, "You look beautiful."
He steps closer to you, guides you to his body with his hands on your hips, "So beautiful. I always remembered you in our garden. Surrounded by flowers, petals in your hair. I'd imagine children running past your skirts, a babe in your arms. And your laughter. Always you smiling." He's rambling, his voice gentle as he leans down to press a kiss to your shoulder.
You exhale shakily at the thought of children, "It's a shame we can't have a garden on the ship."
He laughs and nuzzles your throat for a moment before pulling back, "Mm. Yes, treasure, a shame. I could build you a new garden, a little place to keep your flowers. Would you like that?"
You blink at him, and the pins in your pocket feel heavy. You're keenly aware of the rose in your hair. You feel your voice come out unsteady, because you've always been able to see that life with him, "What about your ship and crew?"
He lifts your hand to press a kiss to your knuckles, "My ship will be fine. My crew is more than capable of keeping her afloat. And I've enough gold to keep us comfortable for the rest of our and our children's lives."
You're not exactly sure what to do with that, "I guess raising children on a pirate ship might not be the best environment," You murmur and your eyes fix on a merchant's caravan for a moment.
He laughs, his hand settling on the small of your back to lead you to the next stall, "We can have both love. A few weeks at sea, a few in your garden. There's nothing I wouldn't give you. Now, books next, darlin'? Something to fill your lovely head and the ship's library?"
"The ship has a library?" You ask curiously, wondering if you had missed it when you were exploring his ship.
"I'm having one built," he drawls, like it's nothing at all.
"You're- What? Where?" You stumble out, trying to figure where there could possibly be room on the ship for a library.
"In one of the storage rooms, treasure, it wasn't being used anyway. Ah, here we are," Jason nudges you towards a vendor with more books than you've ever seen, effectively ending your line of questioning, "Pick out whatever catches your eye. I'll be right back."
He presses a kiss to your cheek, and you watch as he lazily heads over to women selling baskets.
You hastily pick out the first book that looks interesting, and Jason raises an eyebrow at you when he strolls back to your side, "Only one book, love?"
"Just one is fine," You answer, reaching to take the basket.
He moves the basket from your reach, "Pick out a few more, darlin'. You're not being greedy. It'll be good to have something to do at sea, right?"
He watches you closely as you nod, and go to pick out two more books a little more carefully, "Good. Now pick out two more."
You frown, "This is enough."
"Two more, treasure," he says softly, reaching for the three books in your hands. He pulls them from you gently and sets them in the basket, "go on."
He hums in approval when you pick out two more novels, and he drops coins in the old vendor's hands. He takes the books from you, "Very good, love. What did you want next?"
"That was everything," You answer quietly.
He smiles brightly, "Then, there's a bakery I'd like to show you. They have croissants, love, with chocolate on the inside. But, first," he says, mischief glinting in his eyes as he leads you away from the marketplace, and into an empty alley.
He places the basket on the cobblestones and gently pushes your hood back, admiring your face as you watch him with confused eyes, "What are we doing, Jason?"
"This," he mumbles, pressing a firm kiss to your lips. It catches you off guard, and he kisses you again and again until you're both panting, "so perfect, my treasure." He trails kisses up to your ear, nipping at your skin, "so clever and lovely and sweet."
"Jason," You protest as he starts to lift your skirts. He hums softly, kissing your throat as he turns you around to face the wall, pressing his stiffening cock to your backside.
"Jason," You try again as he traces his fingers up your thighs, exploring and relearning what makes you shiver.
"You're trembling," he notes, pressing more kisses along your neck, "Don't worry, love, I've got you."
"Someone could see," You mumble, eyes darting as you brace a hand against the wall, his weight behind you making you unsteady.
"Let them," he says simply, and the sound of his belt clinking makes you tense.
"Jasonâ wait, Iâ" You stumble out and he freezes, fingers stilling against your thighs and mouth leaving your skin, "I feel like a whore."
He makes a choked noise and drops your skirts, turning you back around with panic in his eyes, "Love, no, I would neverâ the last thing I want in the world is to make you feel that way. You're my partner, not some wench," he says your name, strangled and pained, "I love you. I swear it. I wasn't planning toâ this was the first secluded spot I could think of, treasure. All I ever think of is how much I want you by my side. This wasn't supposed to hurt you. I never want to hurt you."
"I'm not hurt," You mumble, embarrassment and unease settling in your stomach as you avoid his eyes.
"Love," he breathes out, "I'm sorry."
"Don't be," You say quickly, adjusting your clothes and cloak, "Iâ this is what your life is, isn't it? Danger and thrills and all that comes with being a pirate."
He frowns, reaching for you, starts to say your name. "Will you take me to the pastry shop?" You cut him off instead.
He studies you, concern and apologies written clear on his face. He then nods slowly, and bends down to pick up the basket filled with your books, "This isn'tâ treasure, I've only ever been with you. You know that, right?"
You nod, "I know."
Jason doesn't quite look like he believes you, but offers you his hand hesitantly. You don't miss the way his shoulders drop in relief when you take it, "The bakery, then," he says gently, leading you slowly through the winding alleys and back onto the streets lined with stores.
"Jason," You call, pausing outside an expensive looking shop.
His gaze snaps to you immediately, voice eager yet careful, "Yes, love?"
You gesture to the store, "They sell rings."
His eyes light up and he steps closer to you, "You want me to buy you a ring, love?" He exhales softly when you nod, and he lifts your hand to kiss your wrist.
"Can I wait out here? With the books? I'd like to sit on the bench. And, ah, be surprised by what you pick," You say, drawing out your words.
"Of course, darling. Anything," he agrees easily, immediately guiding you to the bench and placing the basket next you. "I won't be long." He hesitates again, before bending down placing a tender kiss to your cheek.
You watch as he disappears into the store, and every fiber of your being knows this is your only chance. If you're ever going to leave, to let him go so both of you can move on, now is all you're ever going to get.
It makes you sick with guilt, thinking of the way he looks at you with adoration, but he's in love with a memory of the past. He should be focused on his future. He's a pirate lord now, and he has a full life, a new family, and new adventures where you don't fit.
To tie him to a life of flower-filled gardens when you've seen first hand how much he loves the salt and sea, is something you could never do.
You stand on shaky feet. You leave the basket of books on the bench, you take the hair pins. Jason will look for you. His crew will look for you. He might even think you've been kidnapped. So, you have to be clever. You've always been clever.
You force a practiced, perfect smile to your face, one you've worn for the past two years around Gotham's finest nobles. You approach a young woman, "Excuse me, Miss? I love your cloak, would you want to trade it for mine?"
She looks surprised, but when her eyes dart over you and lock on the insignia engraved on the fastening of your cloak, she seems much more interested, "Oh? That'sâ a cloak from Vixen's?" You nod innocently, and she smiles greedily, "yes, let's trade."
You both unpin your cloaks, and as you walk away, drawing the light gray material over your head, you hear her chirp about how naive people from outside Star City are, how they don't appreciate how hard it is to get any clothes by Mari.
You have to be fast. You've learned how to be fast, to disappear into crowded streets during the years Jason was gone. It's not long before you're standing in front of an elderly man ticking off items on a list. "Sir?"
He looks up at you kindly, but looks can be so deceiving. It's a risk you're willing to take, you decide, and force back the thoughts that it's unfair to be testing your husband in this way. You hadn't meant for it to become a test, but in a way, it is.
Lies spill easily from your tongue, "I heard your wagons are traveling to a village near my sister's home. Is it possible I could pay for passage to ride with you?"
He smiles at you, eyes still soft and kind, "of course, Miss. There's room. You're welcome to sit in the wagon," he offers you an aged, calloused hand, and you take it as he helps you into the wagon.
"Thank you," You murmur, grateful you didn't have to steep to bargaining with the hair pins just yet.
He nods, voice soft and knowing, "We'll be leaving in just a moment, Miss," he draws the canvas of the wagon closed, and you settle yourself between boxes and sacks of goods.
You busy yourself with picking at your sleeve as the caravan starts to move, the rumbling and shaking doing nothing to calm your nerves. You keep your head down, and wonder if he's even noticed you're gone.
The horses whine and cobblestones turn to dirt roads, the sounds of the city grow dull. You risk a glance out the wagon towards the port city. There's no smoke from fires, no screams or alarms raised.
It had been so easy. So painfully simple. And there's no way for him to track you down. No way for him to know if you're still in the city, on ship, or in a carriage. There's no trail for him to follow. No lighthouse that leads to you.
Tears start to spill down your face before you even realize you're crying. You tug your knees to your chest. You're heading inland, far from any ports where ships could chase you. If you went through enough towns, you'd be impossible to trace.
You could disappear almost entirely. And why would he look for you? Abandon his crew and the sea to find you?
It was for the best, you tell yourself as you muffle your tears into your traded cloak, for both you. It had to be done. You had to leave.
There was never any other choice for either of you, than to end the dying chapter.

The promises we made
Malleus Draconia X (implied) Fem reader
Genre: Fluff and angst, rolled in one.
General warnings: Reader is called "mother" and "queen" and mentioned to be pregnant, however is scarce and pronouns are not used.
TW: mentions of death. If there is anything else, please make me aware and I shall update accordingly.
You had given Malleus experiences he never thought he would have. From a memorable encounter, Friendship he treasured, to a love he would always hold near and dear to his heart. your life unfolds together as a beautiful tapestry of memories, promises, and eternity, a product more intricate than any woven piece, one he would never forget even as decades pass.
~~~~~~
He remembered it like it was just yesterday.
The harmonious sounds of giggles rang as you tipped your ice cream towards the fae prince, him gracefully taking a lick only for it to fall right off the cone. The way your mellifluous voice filled his ears with sounds of joy never got old to him, if anything, he would argue it was the most beautiful thing in the world next to your smile. The way you would light up at seemingly the most silly of things, he found himself smiling at the very things he used to call insignificant.
When night fell upon the campus, Malleus would often drop by unannounced. Simply to take a stroll along the forestry, talking about anything and everything. He never knew there would be so many things to talk about with a human, topics seemed far and few between yet time flew by unlike anything he had ever experienced when he was with you. A phenomenon he would often call it, the way you consumed his time without him noticing, yet he never found himself actually complaining. After all, you were his first true friend outside of the royal court, who was he to decline the company of someone so willing to embrace him- quirks and all?
Invitations were not sparse when it came to you- you were always the first to tell him of events, the first to ask him over, even school trips you encouraged him to explore the world and the places that reside in it. Diasomnia was no stranger to your presence, they became used to hearing your fits of laughter as you ran down the halls in pajamas and socks, sharing the forbidden things Malleus was unaccustomed to. Inviting him to do such things unbecoming of a prince heir to be king, it was truly freeing to be saved from the shackles of responsibility when you were nearby.
It was your first ever visit to Briar Valley, and your first kiss together was nothing short of perfection. The tension in the air as you gazed lovingly into each others eyes, inching closer with green slits flicking between your shining orbs and your tantalizing lips. The scent of roses surrounding you, the auroma of romance mixed the thumping in Malleus chest singing chords of unfathomable love. Afraid it would spill out, he had finally gathered the courage to close his eyes and pull you close with hands wrapped around your waist, sealing the overflowing love within locked lips. It was awkward, only slightly. Yet neither of you paid attention to the technique, only desperate to feel the warmth that filled your hearts. With unsteady breath he asked you then and there to be his forever until the end of time, to which you happily made your promise to him.
"Until the end of time itself," you whispered to him, foreheads pressed against one another, breath heavy from the heated kiss, "I promise you and you alone will have my heart."
"And I as well," he whispered back, "shall forever stay loyal to you as my one and only." He squeezed your hand and peered into your teary eyes, "until the end of time, shall we part."
Many firsts were accounted for in your time with Malleus, and his first sexual experienced was not exempted from that list. He recalled feeling...nervous. Excited, yet afraid. Being the most powerful being, he felt fear of hurting you for the first time. Hovering over your body his hands were trembling as he gently grabbed hold of your waist, eyes wavering with uncertainty as he gazed over your skin as if it were a precious jewel meant to be preserved. With your guidance, he had come to learn every inch of your body. What made you writhe in pleasure, your body shake with anticipation, and he had learned how much he adored making love to you. And it really was making love to a T; he never felt anything short of affection every time you were vulnerable to him and your skin pressed against one another.
Ah...and your wedding ceremony. It was truly a sight to behold. He can still recall the joyous sounds of clinking cups and reminiscing voices of friends, fae and human alike. As he looked out to the crowd he knew his parents would be proud to see such a sight; briar Valley filled with such diversity with joined hands and laughter as they celebrate the union of a pure blooded fae with none other than a magicless human. The way you looked walking down the aisle dressed in your wedding attire was forever etched into his mind the very moment his emerald orbs gazed upon your feature. You were always the most gorgeous being he had ever seen, yet something about you wearing an outfit that had basically deemed you his, he had truly believed no one could ever match your beauty.
There were times less savory, of course. Times where you'd hide your tears from your dragon lover, thoughts of returning to your home bubbling to the surface were difficult to ignore. You had left everything behind for him. Something he would forever be grateful for, you left behind your family, your old life, your town, and anything between those lines. You had tried not to hold this over his head, however when you were left hours alone as the now king of the valley had become seemingly too occupied to be by your side, it was difficult not to voice what you had sacrificed to be with him.
"I didn't leave behind my life only to be neglected like this, Malleus," he remembers how somber you sounded when you said this, with the loneliness in your eyes a striking resembelance of a feeling he had become far too familar with. Your hands fiddled with the skin of your nails, riddled with torn skin and rough from occupying your time with various tasks, Malleus grabbed them with rashness pressing a kiss to his lips and another promise escaping his regretful heart.
"I promise you my love, I shall do better to be by your side as you were by mine in my time of loneliness and darkness. I hadn't meant to burden you in a way I had been burdened, I just wish to work hard to make this kingdom a safe place for us and our future child," His hand carressed your stomach, a barely noticeable bump with the egg of your child. His forehead pressed against your own, emotions reigning much like the time in the rose garden years before.
"You and this child shall have all my attention."
"I will not leave to be lonely any longer, my dearest."
That was the second promise he had made to you.
Pitter Patters against the floors of the castle rang loudly, your troublesome fae twins free of their clothed confines squeeling as you chase them down towels in hand. He recalled finishing a meeting, walking out the doors to be greeted with his two sons bare for the world to witness as their little wings flapped pathetically and human legs springing as they barrel into their father. With an "oomf!" Of suprise, Malleus used his strong arms to keep his children confined to his chest, much to their dismay. They let out whines and small puffs of fire from their little mouths, the king unbothered by such small feats of magic from his offspring. You came following suit, hair disheveled and clothes ary, sweat beading your forehead as you slumped over to catch your breath.
"Now that their horns have grown and their powers strengthening, they believe to be superior to their own mother!" You huffed in annoyance, "such naughty little dragons!" With a hearty chuckle, Malleus carried his children off back to the bathrooms.
"Very mischivieous indeed. Sounds like they got that from you, my dear," He laughed. Giving him a light punch on the shoulder, he had called forth the maids to finish bathing his children while he grabbed your hand and lead you....elsewhere, for some much needed privacy.
Time is a very unforgiving thing, and Malleus never thought there would come a moment where he felt there wasn't enough of it. Years pass like mere minutes to him, the memories of his quickly growing children being nothing but babes in your arms seemed not so far away. Yet the most noticeable of difference that helped him see the true value of time, would be....you. He saw as your movements began to become sluggish, no longer to even run around in your socks hiding from the palace guards you had known since school years. You often spent time sitting in your special garden, reading a book or otherwise. The maids had taken over the tending of the floral, for with your weakening state came the struggle of taxing events. Attempting to wake you up with playful kisses and tickling had also become a memory of a near past.
The difference was uncanny. Your hair had grown grey and your cheeks sunken in, yet Malleus still looked at you as if you were the most precious cut of jade he had ever lay his eyes upon. He had reassured you time and time again, to your very last breath that you were still the only one for him: the most beautiful being he had ever had the pleasure of seeing.
Even now, staring at the obsidian gravestone with your name etched in emerald and a photo of your face, he never wavered in his resolve of that fact.
He remembered it like it was yesterday.
You lay in your shared bed, Malleus slouched over next to you with his hand gripping your own, too weak to squeeze back with equal affection as you wanted. Your children stood in front of the bed, staring with melancholy eyes as their father shed tears in front of them for the first time, wetting his cheeks to the hands that grasped your own. With a tired gaze you looked over to Malleus, and then your children, a sad smile upon your lips.
"Don't...be sad, tsunotaro," you said with weak breath, your husbands eyes widening at a nickname long forgotten to him,"I promise I'll be with you, until time ends, shall we truly part." You hadn't been able to speak much more than that, instead listening for hours on end as your two boys and your soulmate had said what they believed to be their final goodbyes. Right up until your children had fallen asleep, Malleus refusing to move even an inch from your side.
You passed away that night, and with your last breath, Malleus felt a part of himself die, as well.
It's been years since you had left his side, yet he remembered you as if it were just yesterday. Every day he would visit you, leaving little treasures and flowers on your grave almost as if he was a smitten school boy once again, chuckling to himself as he recalled how you would tease him for the trinkets he piled upon the dorm steps. He was encouraged to remarry, he was told to create a full blooded heir, to move on from you, and weave a new tapestry.
"I am loyal to one, and one alone," He told every sutior that came his way and every person who try to sway his resolve, "that is the promise I made to my dearest, and a Draconia never breaks their word."
That was his first promise.
Staring out over his kingdom, he felt the colors were less vibrant without your smile to follow suit. Your spot next to him remained empty yet polished, your side of the bed made every morning, and your garden tended to full of your favorite flowers.
Revered as the first human royal of Briar Valley, a celebration for your birthday was put in place in your honor. For even in your short life span, you were able to unite together races of all kind, bringing so much to the growth of the kingdom than anyone could have ever thought. A day and night of singing and dancing, decorations of your favorite strung on on a calibur so large it seemed a piece of you came back to light up the Valley just as brightly as when you were there. During the yearly celebration, Malleus sat beside you, a meal for four. You, him, and your children reminiscing of memories of the loved and far too soon departed queen. Near the end of the night, he placed a kiss to your stone and without fail said his second promise year and year again.
"You shall never be alone, my love. I am right here, as you were for me those many years before."
With the night festivities coming to an end, everyone had cleared out whereas Malleus insisted on remaining by your side. Some look at the king with pity in their eyes, seeing a mourning man, whilst some whispers on the street speak of the king as a fool; how the loss had caused him to lose his head, a desperate soul finding solace in something no longer there. None of that mattered to him. With fondness in his eyes, his tail wrapped around the stone head with a whisper audible to him and the ghost of you accompanying by his side.
"Until time ends...shall we truly part."
Sleeping Over at Ramshackle w/Malleus
The next time Malleus visits you, he questions you on the concept of a sleepover party. Youâre about to respond pretentiously until you remember how sheltered Malleus has been since childhood. As a treasured prince of a highly revered royal legacy, he shouldnât be taking chances with strange commonfolk. Now that heâs away from his overbearing grandmother and courtiers, he wants to experience the commoner celebrations at least once.
Of course, with Malleusâs oh-so-malevalent reputation, heâs been skimped out on opportunities with (and by) his fellow classmates. He sees Silver and Sebek enjoy themselves, and the little green monster has been itching at Malleus lately.
You suggest that Malleus can stay over at Ramshackle any time he wants. Your door is always open.
âTo intrude on oneâs property would be sinful.â
âNot if you have the hostâs permission to visit. Itâs not like youâre gonna live at Ramshackle forever.â
Malleus smirks. âI suppose that is a correct statement.â His voice trails off, and he slips into his pondering state. Youâre about to ask what it is until Malleus speaks up again. âMay I ask about your weekend schedule?â
âWhat for?â
âWould you be welcome to have this âsleepover partyâ with me?â
You can never refuse such a request. You suggest that the party can start on Saturday when the both of you are free.
âIndeed, I shall arrive and be the polite guest of the evening.â
The week slowly inches by, and homework and class has you almost forgetting the arrangement you have promised Malleus earlier in the week. On Friday, Grim asks you if youâll be joining Ace and Deuce to Foothill Town, but you let your little cat friend know of your sleepover plans instead.
âMalleus is coming here? Why?â he exclaims.
âBecause he politely asked,â you respond matter-of-factly.
Grim doesnât like the idea, but he canât argue as youâve been put in charge of Ramshackle based on the Headmageâs word.
He leaves with the boys Saturday morning, and the Adeuce duo, too, are concerned about your idea. You reassure them that itâs a sleepover, not a battle of the wands. They mean well, and you know this, but you also wish people would be more accepting of Malleus as you are. You remind yourself this is not an easy feat to accomplish.
You spend the rest of the hours organizing the guest room. You donât know what exactly will make a royal prince, let alone a Housewarden comfortable. You can only do what you have in Ramshackleâs possession.
Once Malleusâs potential room is spick and span, you head into the kitchen and align the ingredients for roasting marshmallows. Itâs past five and you wonder if Malleus is on his way. You send him a text about when heâll come over. Instead of texting back, assuming heâs still lacking knowledge of the function, Malleus responds with a phone call.
âYeah, Hornton. I was wondering when you were coming over,â you tell him.
âDepends if you are ready to receive me.â
âI think so. I made sure everything was ready.â
âSplendid.â
Before you can say anything else, he hangs up. âHornton?â
A knock at the door soon follows. Who else could it be knocking than the guest you are expecting? You open the door and behold, there he stands.
âHere I am. This is my dress for the âsleepover.â Does it meet your expectations?â
Your jaw hits the floor. You invite Malleus into Ramshackle, ogling his draping black pajamas (a shirt and pants set) with forest green bordering. A lake blue shawl hangs off his shoulders. Its imprint is calligraphy in natural artistic form. Tassels drop from the edges of the fabric as if blowing in the wind as the Briar Valley prince walks and turns. You barely believe what Malleus is wearing is even pajamas. Are these even fit for a sleepover? âYou really are a prince.â
âYes? Was I to be disbelieved?â
âWhat?â Did you really say that out loud? Your face shades into the reddest color to exist. âI mean, yes, you are. I justâŠI donât know why I said--â
Malleus interrupts your stammering with a comfortable chuckle. âYouâre quite the charmer. I accept your compliment. Thank you.â
Though he permits the compliment, your face is still hot. âYouâre welcome.
To quickly divert away from the embarrassing moment. You show Malleus the materials for smores and explain that these are the quintessential sleepover snack.
âWouldnât a snack consist of one item? You have displayed an entire collection,â he remarks.
âWell, yeah,â you mutter. âYou have to build it and then eat it.â
âBuild it? Will you please instruct me?â
You explain that they need to roast the marshmallow and then squish it with chocolate and graham crackers like a sandwich. âI would use the fireplace, but wood is not available for burning, so the next best thing is the stove.â
âIs it?â Malleusâs voice is deep as he asks.
You open a marshmallow bag, and Malleus takes one as you offer. Youâre about to turn on the stove, but he advises you not to. Poking his marshmallow on his fork, Malleus gives one spit, and a flame engulfs the puffy block of sugar. He blows it out after a few seconds, leaving the fluffy block partially black. âLike this?â he asks you.
Astounded, you only nod.
Though without your permission, he takes your marshmallow fork and does the same thing for you. âHow fun this is. I havenât had an excuse to blow my fire in a long time. I could eat these little objects by themselves.â
âIf you want to, you can. I canât stop you from doing that.â
âNo. I shall combine it with the other ingredients you suggested. How fair will it be to ignore instructions such as yours?â
So with both marshmallows squashed onto the chocolate and graham crackers, the both of you dig into your creations. Much to your delight, Malleus thrills himself in the smores. Of course, you two are careful with eating too much.
With your stomachs full with sugary goodness, you and Malleus head upstairs to relax for the rest of the night. Your room has its curtains apart, shining the moonlight into the space. As you pace your breathing, staring at the ceiling, Malleus is distracted by the outside.
âWhat are you looking at, Horton?â you question.
âThe stars,â he replies nonchalantly. âThey are very beautiful.â
You look over at the window, too. âOh, yeah, they are.â
âThis dormitory has always been the most ideal spot to watch the night stars. The serenity of it all eases oneâs troubles so quickly.â
You agree that it does have a clear view. âDiasomnia doesn't have the same view?â
âIâm afraid not. Diasomnia House is always cloaked in dark clouds.â
âOh, Iâm sorry.â
âApologies are not necessary here. It is the nature of the dormitoryâs design.â
The two of you sit in silence for a moment. âHorntonâŠâ
âHmm?â
âWhen you used to sneak off here, what exactly did you do? Stare at the stars?â
âNot in silence if that is what you are referring to. This was a quiet place to practice music, too.â
âMusic?â
He removes his shawl from his shoulders and gently wraps it around yours. Malleus waves his hand, twisting his wrist circularly. The neck of a violin lands perfectly in his palm. The body of the instrument is decorated in carefully designed vines as theyâve been customly engraved. When he waves his other hand the same way, the bow to the violin appears in the correct grasping position. Malleus scooches to the edge of the bed, points the bow to the moon, having the light bounce into the room, and graces Ramshackle with a romantic nocturne.
The violinâs sweet, velvety voice softens against your ears. Its lullaby lulls you to a candied slumber. Your body slips, so that your back leans against the mattress gently. Malleus continues his song, distracted in his confident stringing. His song comes to a soft conclusion, and his eyes glance at your resting self. Malleus captures his chuckles down his throat as he vanishes his instructment back to where it has sat before heâs summoned it for the song. He watches you peacefully sleep, carefully twirling your hair with his pronounced nails. As Malleus looks over you, he realizes that a sleepover isnât just about sleeping away from where your home is. Sleeping over perhaps is a little bit more.
I shall be endlessly scolded for this, but I must break my silence and take a moment to pay tribute to @kiwiplaetzchen.Â
It is not said enough for my liking, but Kiwi is an absolute treasure. From the very beginning, she has been a constant pillar of encouragement and support to a fledgling â and at times â foundering fandom. Someone who continually and unreservedly gives all of herself even to the most unworthy (read: me) and asks for no thanks or acknowledgement in return. Despite being an amazing creator in her own right, she refuses to take full credit when it is justly deserved in favour of ardently and selflessly uplifting the creators around her. However, I shall sing her praises until my final breath and there is not a damn thing she can do about it.
Kiwi,
Through not only the immeasurable joy and laughter but also the tearful pain and rage of life, I am â now and forever â grateful for your unfaltering patience, comforting words of wisdom, and steadfast support through the darkest times. Thank you for loving my Sebastian as much as I do and breathing life into the greatest companion a wizard has ever known. The day Nosy landed in Sebastian's arms, he was forever changed.
I was and shall remain forever changed.
Thank you for blessing us all with your incredible talent, stalwart resolve, genuine kindness, diabolical humour, and absolutely unparalleled heart. You truly are an inspiration.
Hereâs to the juiciest sweetest Kiwi in this mad fruit bowl. Itâs an honour and a privilege to know you.
Big love to @kiwiplaetzchen đ„âš
