Tries to act like nothing’s wrong, but it’s so obvious something is. He still jokes around, still sends you funny messages—but there’s hesitation now, a nervousness in his texts that wasn’t there before.

Overthinks everything. Did he say something weird? Is he being annoying? Are you ignoring him on purpose? His brain runs in circles, making up worst-case scenarios.

Writes songs about it. Instead of telling you how he feels, he pours it all into lyrics....verses full of confessions, frustration, and so much longing.

Tries to distract himself with food and games, but nothing feels the same. Even his favorite snacks taste bland when you’re not there to steal a bite. His high scores don’t feel like victories when you’re not there to celebrate.

Gets weirdly competitive with your S/O—even if they don’t know it. If they post a funny joke, he has to post something funnier. If they do something romantic, he mutters, “I could’ve done it better.”

His voice is quieter now, but his eyes, usually so full of light, are clouded with something else.

"I was supposed to be that person."

His throat bobs as he swallows hard.

"You think I didn’t notice? The way I felt whenever you were around? The way I’d drop everything just to see you smile?" He laughs bitterly. "I knew it before I even admitted it to myself."

Then, finally, his voice barely above a whisper—

"But I guess I was too late, huh?"

And for once, Jisung has no joke to cover up the pain.

Tries to be supportive, even when it hurts. He forces a smile, tells you he’s happy for you, and pretends like his heart isn’t sinking every time you mention your S/O.

Still checks up on you, even if you don’t check up on him. Sends you little “Did you eat?” or “Get home safe” texts, even when you stop replying as fast as you used to.

Bakes way too much. His kitchen turns into an emotional war zone....cookies, brownies, cakes, anything to keep himself busy. But no matter how many sweets he makes, nothing takes away the bitter feeling in his chest.

Tries to keep up his usual affection, but it feels… different. He hesitates before reaching for a hug, pulls away too quickly, laughs a little softer when you ruffle his hair.

Plays video games as an escape. But even when he wins, it doesn’t feel as satisfying when you’re not there to celebrate with him.

Finally breaks when he realizes you’re truly slipping away. He wanted to be patient, wanted to be the good friend, but that didnt go as planned.

"You don’t need me anymore, do you?"

Felix’s voice is quiet, almost trembling, but his eyes are locked onto yours...searching, begging for an answer he’s afraid to hear.

"I mean… I get it," he laughs weakly, forcing a smile that doesn’t reach his eyes. "You have someone now. You’re happy. That’s all I ever wanted."

He pauses, swallows hard.

"But… was I ever that important to you?"

Your breath catches, and he takes a shaky step back, hands clenching at his sides.

"Because it doesn’t feel like it anymore." His voice wavers, his deep tone softer than ever. "I’m still here, you know? I still—" He stops himself, letting out a quiet sigh.

Then, almost too soft to hear—

"I still love you."

It’s out before he can take it back, and when he sees your eyes widen, he lets out a small, sad chuckle.

"I tried to ignore it. I told myself it was enough just to be near you. But then you started pulling away, and suddenly, I wasn’t even part of your life anymore."

His voice cracks, and he shakes his head, looking down.

"I should’ve told you sooner, shouldn’t I?"

When he looks back up, his usual warmth is dimmer.

"But it’s too late now, isn’t it?"

Acts like he doesn’t care—but oh, he cares. His usual teasing gets a little sharper, his sarcasm a little more pointed. He pretends everything is normal, but his eyes tell a different story.

Stops reaching out first. If you want to talk to him, you can text him. (Except he still waits for your messages, still checks his phone way too often, still hopes.)

Gets quieter around you. Normally, he always has a witty remark, a playful jab...but now, there are more pauses, more silences that stretch a little too long.

Starts staying late at practice, distracting himself with work. If he can’t talk to you, he’ll at least be productive about it.

Refuses to admit he’s jealous, even when it’s painfully obvious. If someone points it out, he scoffs, “Jealous? Of what? Please.” (Meanwhile, his grip on his water bottle tightens.)

Finally breaks when he catches you actively avoiding him. He was fine with being second place.....until he realizes he’s not even in the running anymore.

"Are you serious?"

Seungmin’s voice is steady.....too steady. He stares at you, his expression unreadable, but there’s something burning behind his eyes.

"So this is how it is now?" He lets out a short, humorless laugh. "You don’t even bother pretending anymore, huh?"

You shift uncomfortably, and he shakes his head, jaw clenching.

"You didn’t even notice, did you?" His tone is sharp, but there’s something underneath it...something fragile, something aching.

"I stopped texting first. I stopped calling. I stopped everything just to see if you’d even care. And guess what?" He exhales sharply, looking away for a moment before meeting your gaze again.

"You didn’t."

The words hang in the air, heavier than either of you expected.

For a second, he looks like he wants to stop himself. Like he wants to shove the words back down. But then he sighs, running a hand through his hair.

"Do you even know how stupid I feel?" His voice drops lower, quieter. "Standing here, saying all this, when I already know how it ends?"

Then, almost as if the confession is being dragged out of him—

"I liked you, you know."

A bitter smile tugs at his lips.

"Maybe I still do."

His fingers curl into fists at his sides, but his voice stays painfully steady.

"But I’m not going to beg for your attention."

With one last glance...one that lingers just a second too long...he steps back.

"So if you’re going to keep pushing me away, then fine. I’ll stop trying."

Tries to play it cool but completely fails. He acts like everything is fine, but his smile doesn’t quite reach his eyes anymore.

Laughs less around you. Normally, he lights up when you’re near, but now, his laughter feels forced...like he’s just going through the motions.

Overthinks everything. Did he do something wrong? Did he annoy you? Or are you just done with him? His thoughts spiral, but he never asks, too scared of the answer.

Becomes awkwardly formal. Where he used to call you cute nicknames or casually tease you, now it’s just “Oh, hey,” and “Yeah, sure.” Like he’s putting up a wall between you.

Starts avoiding you, even though you’re the one pulling away. If you don’t need him, maybe it’s better if he keeps his distance too. But it hurts more than he thought it would.

He sees you with your S/O and realizes he’s not the person you run to anymore. He wasn’t going to say anything, but his heart doesn’t listen.

"Do you even miss me?"

The question slips out before Jeongin can stop it, and when you turn to look at him, his lips press together like he already regrets saying it.

"Because it really doesn’t feel like you do."

His voice is soft, but there’s a rawness to it....like he’s been holding this in for way too long.

"I get it," he says, forcing a smile. "You’re happy. You have someone now. But..." His voice trails off, and he lets out a small, bitter laugh. "I guess I just didn’t think I’d lose you completely."

You start to say something, but he shakes his head.

"I used to be the one you told everything to. The one who could make you laugh even on your worst days." He swallows hard, voice growing quieter. "Now, I’m just someone you used to be close with, huh?"

He looks away, hands shoved in his pockets like he’s trying to keep himself together.

"I really liked you, you know."

The confession is barely above a whisper, like he doesn’t even want to hear himself say it.

"But I guess that doesn’t matter anymore, does it?"

a week later

Paige groaned, rolling around the bed with her hands on her head, pounding from another hangover.

She turned towards the open door, facing her girlfriend who had knocked twice.

"Hey, you okay?"

The blonde sniffled. "Yeah."

Amaia nodded. "Okay. I'll be outside if you need me."

"Okay, thanks."

'She would've stayed with me.' Paige thought about you for the millionth time this week.

She remembered everything that happened that night. All she could think about were the possibilities, would you have gotten back with her if she wasn't drunk? If you guys were in a better setting?

She ran her hand through her long hair, missing the feeling of your touch as she opened her TV.

The moment she opened YouTube, she immediately recognized your face from one of the recent interviews you did for your new album.

She heard your voice introducing yourself, not even realizing she had clicked on the video and placed the remote down.

"-And i'm here to do the Wired autocomplete interview!" You grinned, making Paige's face warm up.

"When does the new album come out." You said outloud as you peeled the paper off. "It's already out! Go check it out on Spotify, Apple Music or any listening platform!"

"Does-" You read your name outloud as you peeled another strip paper off. "-watch basketball? Yes! I love supporting my friend, Azzi Fudd who is on the UCONN women's basketball team and-" You stopped yourself. "And yeah!"

The blonde girl frowned, feeling the jealousy pit at the bottom of her stomach.

"Who is the song 'nonsense' about?" You chuckled, tucking a piece of hair behind your ears. "That's for me to know, and for you guys to find out." You winked and grabbed another board of questions.

Paige paused the video, rushing to type the song on the search bar and clicking the first result that popped up.

Millions of thoughts raced through her head as she listened to the lyrics. Were you seeing someone else?

She grabbed her phone from her side table and pulled up her messages with Azzi.

paige: does she still live with you?

azzi: no hi, no how are you doing?

why i think aradia and john work so well

(with some stuff i’ve been wanting to yap about for ages)

have you guys ever given arajohn / johnradia (idk if its popular enough to even have a standardized ship name) any thought …? i know it seems kind of out of left field. i’ve considered it and i think its. really really good. i have a bunch of thoughts to unpack. come join me. and maybe grab a snack or something because i didn’t realize how much i'd actually have to say about this

the other day i made a tweet that did rather well where i said, “john and aradia shouldve talked more. its so simple but i like how she actually earnestly answers his questions. so many characters in this comic are so mean to john for just wanting to know more give him a break”

putting it out there now im not big about shipping for the sake of shipping. there needs to be real chemistry. i need to sense that as a reason why two characters would potentially be a good influence on each other. i never knew why i was always so obstinate about this because it’s fictional and not materially hurting anyone, but i think it might be because i’m not sure how to justify it or explain it if not.

i strongly believe john and aradia would have had it made out for them if circumstances allowed it. (what i mean by “ship” or “johnradia” extends to any kind of interpersonal dynamic, even if just a good friendship. it doesnt even have to be romantic, just some sort of dynamic with them.)

unfortunately aradia originally committed herself to staying out of trolling the kids over their timelines, so john and aradia never talked until year 3 on the ship in the dream bubbles but they never had a truly proper one-on-one without outside meddling. i think if john knew aradia better and her story beforehand, she had more time to explain herself and her history, he wouldnt have been unsettled. and also of course if his experience with the trolls didn’t suck so bad because he already had expectations for how antagonizing most of them were.

i found people’s sentiments about johnradia elsewhere too. i remembered that they were both on the song art for ascend, and searched ao3 to see how many fics have been written to gauge how substaintial it’s been in the homestuck fandom. only 17 of them turned up. but the people who do talk about it are either curious about it or really do like it, and that interested me.

clearly it’s pretty niche character relationship to be depicted in any fanwork and i can understand why. despite being so small, from what ive seen it seems universally agreed upon to be nice. i haven’t seen a single person object to it. what ive seen falls into two categories: “wow i didnt think about this before but i actually dig it” or “(starving) finally some good fucking food”

the pattern im seeing is that people think it’s “random”, but i disagree. there is something there substantiating it even if they’re unable to articulate it.

the fanfic these comments are from is chronology of wind. that fic is really, really good, and sadly unfinished. i have more abstract reasons to believe why aradia and john would be good in theory, so actually seeing someone else actually make something with them helped me read it in action, to get a more tangible feel of the dynamic beyond what we have in canon.

i wouldn’t normally make claims about a relationship with regard to homestuck canon by looking at their relationship in a fanfic, because i think you all know by now i am very nitpicky about accurate characterization, and it does not go unnoticed by me when people get it right because for some reason it feels like a one in a million thing (even though it really shouldn’t be?). so this was a special case. the tone was completely consistent with canon. this fic is so in-character i’d basically consider it an extension of canon. to me it’s like they took the same characters and plopped them into this scenario to see how they’d interact. guys… i love that stuff so much. i love fanfiction or fanworks that depict realistic extensions of canon and stays true to the energy and tone of the source, but deepens it. there isn’t enough of it imo. i want to see more of it.

anyway, what i read of their conversations in that fic basically aligned with what i was thinking in my head about what i’d expect it to be like. i was able to compare how aradia and john talked to how aradia and the other characters interacted, their comparative attitudes towards each other—how they’re treated by others compared to how they treat each other.

have you noticed john and aradia’s communication values are both based on sincerity, being in the proper know, treating people fairly, and thanklessly taking on the necessary work that “must be done” in order to have what they really want — a good time that feels meaningful? and they accomplish this without any adjustment in how they talk to each other.

john is always subtly (or not-so-subtly) asking the people around him to answer him soberly and to the point so he knows whats going on and what that means for what his options are. he needs to know to what end he will be applying his absurd energetic drive into making shit happen. aradia honors his time before john can even become uncomfortable with the amount of time being eaten up by conversation. contrast this with rose, who seems to go on for a while with prose-like conversational adornments. in dire situations that need rapid explanation and definitive answers so he knows what to do, this is really the last thing he needs. aradia doesnt waste john’s time. she answers all his questions, and does it politely to boot. his time talking to her doesn't feel wasted.

john's impatience with this sort of nonsense is also why i can’t see something like dirkjohn working out, for example. to me it feels like @entropicbias also deeply understands this on some level because i literally couldn’t have demonstrated what i mean by it any better myself than that. i'm gonna have to to hit him up about how much i genuinely respect that like tbh hes one of the few i absolutely trust to handle writing and depicting these characters in situations and their interpersonal dynamics. and also care about doing their characterization justice as much as me.

of course people are still entitled to like whatever they like, ship whatever they want to. i dont care. but i just don’t think it would work from the perspective of the minds of the canon characters, how they generally think and approach situations. and i can already tell people might ask me how do i know this? what makes me an expert? i’m not more than anyone else is (although i have been called a "characterization expert" from my friends), but i do know that i can pick up on the energetic chemistry between people, including characters, honestly precognitively, without even thinking? like if it’s stiff or tense or awkward, if people aren’t free to express themselves uninhibitedly, if they feel unsafe or uncomfortable. i can sense this almost instantly. it’s something that’s a visceral feeling in my body i cant express and i have to rationalize it after the fact. like i’m doing now in fact writing this big analysis.

for the next section to make sense, you probably want to read this post. i initially started writing it within this post to explain but there was so much brewing i had to explain the context that it turned into something i wanted to post on its own terms.

thank you, really. my main point is using the conceptual tools provided by this system to expIain why aradia and john feel nice together and why i’ve seen people positively perceive the idea of a relationship between them even if it seems “random”.

framing them in this system, it wouldn’t be random! there’s a good reason they seem to fit nicely. this is because john and aradia have complementary forms of information metabolism. information metabolism is talked about in this section.

Jung’s psychic types are the types of cognition, or intelligence. But it would probably be easiest to call them types of IM [information metabolism], since the main difference between the types of people lies in their exchange of information with the external world.

aradia megido’s type of information metabolism (otherwise known as a TIM) is LII. john egbert’s TIM is ESE.

aradia and john’s types are duals. you can read more about what that entails here. in theory, their interactions would reflect the duality dynamic. reading chronology of wind, that one really in-character fic that explored their dynamic made me excited because they do!

michael pierce gave an overview of his impression of the characteristics of this intertype dynamic. despite only rough knowledge in socionics while he wrote this, his understanding of duality was spot on to me from my experience and others and i wanted to share it here. (fittingly, i believe he is also LII.)

Now we have the famous duality relationship: in a nutshell, this role is characterized by two traits: 1) a very close psychological distance or intimacy, and 2) a great ease of interacting with each other. It is sometimes described how meeting one's dual can be the event of a lifetime, because it inspires aspects in each party's character that they had never expressed before: the pair may even drop out of society for a time in order to focus on just each other, and to explore themselves through interaction with each other. The curious thing in this relationship is that these parties are rather different in outlook, and when they are not actually interacting as potential friends it's probably more likely for them to dislike or mistrust each other because of how different they are. […] However, when they are able to interact normally, it is a strange and wonderful discovery to realize that the interaction is unexpectedly smooth and invigorating. It's hard for people to describe, but as I understand it: while both parties recognize their differences on the surface, these differences are created by a root structure that coincides perfectly with each other, so that the differences on the surface are entirely complementary and cause no friction at all.

it’s also meaningful to consider that the structure of my own psyche is LII as well. so i’ve got a bit of a bias towards aradia and john.. not in the sense that what i actually say about them is personally biased, but that the bias is moreso my personal attention to people and characters of these two types in particular to see how my own experiences are reflected in them. i really do feel of a reflection of my own thought and work process in aradia and in the more abstract sense she is like an extension of myself. when people say they like aradia as a character i get secondhand joy from that because shares certain specific traits with me. of course i am still my own person though.

these are some of the most apt profiles i've found for these types at a glance. again, think about these characters as you read these descriptions. [from here (ESE / LII)]

ESE (Ethical-sensory extrovert) - john

The trademark quality of this type is a focus on socializing and guiding social situations and interactions so that the people involved can have fun and enjoy themselves. ESEs are typically in the middle of what is happening socially and know about the latest events and what people think and feel about them. They are skilled at bringing people together in fun and interesting ways and making everyone feel actively involved. Their friends know them as people who love life and feel most at home in social situations surrounded by other fun people. In their pursuit of fun-oriented and stimulating social interactions, ESEs typically neglect to structure their own thought processes and views in a way that would help them know exactly what they think and why. They are receptive to others’ attempts to help them introduce more structure and logical consistency in their life and thinking processes. They gravitate most to people who open up to fun and emotional interaction easily, yet are also skilled at systematizing thoughts and views and explaining ideological matters.

LII (Logical-intuitive introvert) - aradia

The trademark quality of this type is a focus on logical, structured thought and generating true assertions and views. LIIs are typically strict thinkers who are concerned that everything fits together in a logical way. They are skilled at understanding, generating, and criticizing logical arguments and instilling their views in the people around them. Their friends know them as people with well-organized thoughts and opinions who know what they think and can elucidate their ideas to others. In their pursuit of logical understanding, LIIs typically neglect their external social interactions and activities that would help them lighten up and experience a connection with other people. They are receptive to others’ attempts to create these fun and lighthearted situations for them. They gravitate most to people who are interested in their opinions and understanding of things, but are also skilled at organizing social interactions and creating a sense of emotional unity.

ive recently consciously experienced the feeling of duality for the first time since i've been communicating with my mom's high school classmate, and it is definitely a real thing. i even remember mom pointing out she noticed when we were all talking on the phone over a year ago that i perked up whenever he said stuff. here is how i explained it:

its bonkers how only once i experience something for myself i’m able to explain in detail what makes it so great based on what my impressions about it were because i tend to have a peculiar way of describing the qualities of an experience. my specialty is deep precision in my analogies for what it’s like. so now i can tell you how conversations with your dual feel… heres the status report. it’s weightless. its so strange. like the topic conversation stretches into infinity that you can pick right back up at any time. it’s hazy and unfocused but still pleasant (unless you’re particularly self-conscious and need to unlearn hiding your true self). but the best parts of it come when you have a specific issue or insecurity that comes with being your most natural self that the world seems to misunderstand about you, or just not give you what you don't even know you’ve been looking for. i think you might mutually intimidate each other at first because you're lowkey both expecting to be made fun of for your inadequacy with certain types of information that the other is nuanced with (and you’re not), but it never comes. you don't feel like what your dual wants in life is wrong. your dual seems so talented in all the ways you hope to shine but you’re always unsure of. for the introvert (me) wishing they felt their own active presence as an object (Se, Ne, Te, Fe) like the extravert does. for the extravert, wishing they felt their own relationships with other objects (Si, Ni, Ti, Fi) like the introvert does. any other intertype relationship (ITR) vs. duality is like the difference between 99% and 100% totality of a solar eclipse, except it’s the level of understanding with another person, like the eclipsing of your own information metabolism with theirs. of course there are other things that influence how well your relationship with this person goes, but i am talking strictly about when it comes to basic communication, the level of understanding you share. sometimes it might feel like you dont have much to talk about or the topic is unfocused, because you two ARE opposites in many ways after all, especially at a glance (domain of interests usually come with specific macroelements. theories about thought structures—like socionics, for instance—are in the domain of intuition, while physical interests and experiences are in the domain of sensorics.) i’m LII in the NT club (researchers) and my dual ESE in the SF club (social-communicative). so they’re constantly providing you with information from their own niche in life that you may be entirely unfamiliar with, but for some reason still interests and relaxes you to hear. you might not feel like you have a lot to say about the topic since but you are fully amazed by this person’s activity. it also makes you feel more sure of yourself and more confident that people truly appreciate and need your natural abilities.

here’s some lightly modified descriptions of the information blocks in LII and ESE's information metabolism models from pyatnitsky so you can get an overarching impression of how their type contributes to the informational sphere. i added some of my own adjustments and borrowed some sentences from stratiyevskaya's descriptions. additionally, you can click on the name of the block for an explanation of the role it plays.

i put about a week’s work into these collages but my goal with them was to actually show where i think these information blocks are most pertinent in these characters specifically and where they apply so it’s not just some abstract thing, just as supplementary examples as needed. (for the meaning of these information elements individually you can refer to cysia’s document.)

LII (Logical-intuitive introvert)

EGO (-Ti? -> -Ne!). Analytical thinking. They are well aware of the interrelationships of some objects or phenomena with others, and what laws are in effect or not in effect. On the basis of a comprehensive analysis, they put forward insights about the global essence of specific objects and phenomena, their possibilities. They acutely charge the situation with potential energy. For every situation, there is an archetype.

Super-EGO (-Fi? -> -Se!). Normative ideas about relationships between people and ways to get out of unpleasant ethical situations. Understands ethics as founded on the principles of fairness; to do to one side of the equation that you do to the other. Volitional manifestations in order to protect their living space are carried out only on the basis of personal experience. Because of the limited opportunities to fight back, they react painfully to attempts of any interference in his life. Does not respond to any arbitrary crudeness or volitional pressuring. Mood - that’s what matters in this dyad - emotions and feelings. Anything that suppresses and overshadows good mood is considered unethical in this dyad and is strongly condemned.

The ESE does not allow the LII to limit him in the possibilities of consuming the amount of pleasures and joys, which he considers to be necessary and sufficient. Fortunately, both partners in the dyad - LII and ESE - are obstinate and unyielding. Both are demanding, unwilling (and not allowing anyone else) to lower the bar of their requirements, unable to give in and make concessions (especially in anything that is of principle for themselves). yes, that was the point of this post. i just had to build all that up first so i could walk you through my thoughts in a fully substantiated way.

considering chronology of wind again, john doesnt realize it but he needs aradias frankness and insight. even if she’s unable to explicate on vague things, she states the reason why instead of making him feel stupid (it would create a doomed timeline) but thats all john needs to hear. she is self-effacing and only tells him the truth, and we know other people can take advantage of john’s suggestibility in this way. aradia tells john who is or isnt trustworthy, what actions would be useful/necessary and which ones wont, without any selfish personal motive a la vriska or terezi.

^ (juuuust the record my nitpicky ass doesn’t agree with the truth of the classpect interpretation on behalf of the author in the last bit BUT that is beside the point here. the point is that she is answering john’s question in a way that is meaningful for him)

aradia doesnt realize it but she needs john’s friendy goofiness to brighten her up because she is surrounded by people who antagonize her when she’s literally not even trying to get under anyones skin. everybody gets frustrated at her “spooky nonsense” because theyre afraid of their own mortality, basically telling her to put a lid on it because thinking about hard truths makes THEM personally uncomfortable. but to her it’s always just been a fact of life. plugging your ears to reality is ignorance, but at the same time that doesn’t mean there’s no meaning in anything. she wants to help people see this and she dedicates herself to becoming a psychopomp for the deceased and earnestly trying to make people feel emotionally and physically comfortable in their situation through exploring their memories.

john isn’t hostile towards her. by being herself she is immediately able to earn john’s trust when they initially talk. this is also true in canon; the one time they talked when john initially comes up to her, saying “can i ask you something? seem reasonable, and pretty nice.” unfortunately he asked her the one question she didn’t have much to say about, and i can’t blame him for expecting all the troll girls to be basically insane at that point. but i don’t think aradia is insane. yes she is odd, but i think it’s evident that she has a good head on her shoulders with knowledge of the way the universe around her works, and in the end wants to simply bask in watching it play out. i think she deserves to get childishly excited about it, especially considering she was dead for most of her developmental years.

aside from getting his answers answered, john shows curiosity about her and her species and even care about her well-being and state. this naturally comes from their conversation’s ebb and flow. aradia tells this straightforwardly, without bells and whistles and without trying to trick him, unlike the other trolls who seem keen on well..trolling him.. and providing him with unclear answers to those sorts things. maybe aside from vriska, but she did have a little bit of an attitude about it wherein her and john’s dynamic felt uneven or off-rhythm, with a large psychological distance. it’s a different feeling with aradia, however. they exchange information on the same rhythm and so are able to achieve a closer psychological distance in communication.

there are no judgments coming from aradia about john being “stupid”. she doesn’t underestimate him. it’s not just that john wants to understand (although he does), but he needs to understand what he is doing. aradia compliments john about the traits he possesses that allow him to be effective. i guess in a way i’m doing the same thing with john right now.

john is so mobile and strung along by being the action hero going from place to place as a can-do deliveryboy that he never has time to reflect on his losses, think through them, and accept them.

literally who else is more qualified in all of homestuck than aradia for talking to john about these things?

on top of all of this, they have objectively significant connections beyond just mutual self-realization in a way i think could've been fleshed out. there is potential here.

for a story, i can think of a way that a conversation between them could plausibly happen using the systems established in homestuck's mythology. in canon, we see that john never met aradia until year 3 on the golden battleship in the dream bubbles when he goes to sleep.

but john still dreamt out in the furthest ring. that means during those 3 years it was possible for john to have had a dream with her in it, or at least aradiabot. i know john didn't know aradia's name beforehand but let's just explore the possibility that they could have had met before that. remember that all these aradiabots were once this person.

aradia had obtained john's crosbytop, his dads hat, and his wallet quite a while before their sgrub session. theres your entry

physically being in the space around him would definitely help john reflect easier i think because it will force him to actually exist within the space and talk to someone, taking some time out for this. he wanted to know if anything could've been done or if he was just too late to save them. i know aradia would be able help him slow down and introspect. don't forget the opportunities created by the properties of these spaces that are glubbed out in the furthest ring by the horrorterrors that meld the labyrinthine time and space of their surroundings to the memories of the people and finding others through common points in memory. i would imagine that objects known by multiple people would provide a common point in memory to bring them together.

The bubbles allow the players of Sburb/Sgrub who have lost a life to continue dreaming. The reality constructed in the bubbles is a combination of the memories of everyone inside the bubble accessible to any who has learned the bubble's nature. According to Aradia, it would be quite difficult to exit a bubble to get into a new one, however someone inside a bubble can travel to another one through common points in memory, taking their own memories with them to be integrated into the new bubble. These memories mix and combine, but in general, no new memories are created. Additionally, the bubbles store the consciousness of a player who has lost their dream selves and their original selves, making them double as a form of afterlife; the player is then capable of accessing the memory of anyone else who has gained access to the bubbles. Living players, who have lost or become their dream selves, appear in the dream bubbles when they are asleep. It is in this fashion that the bubbles can be used as meeting places between the dead and the living; even those from alternate universes and doomed timelines can be found in a bubble. Furthermore, in addition to memories, the bubbles can to some extent reflect the thoughts of a player. Beyond that, the bubbles can also behave similarly to Skaia's clouds, showing things that are in some way relevant to the player - such as when coin-flip Dave saw alpha Dave grieving over Bro's corpse - something he was not aware of before being shown it by a bubble.

john and aradia share points in memory related to those objects, and to top it all of they are directly related to john's dad on the same day he died, while aradia grew up with them as bizarre alien artifacts from an archeological dig. the memories are more emotionally charged for john, and i think that distinction would probably be relevant to them both.

to be honest i think after speaking with him for a bit she would readily tell john that she regrets not talking to the kids from the universe her team created sooner before she died, but is glad that she can in the afterlife. in canon, alpha aradia told a doomed dave, "i think its absurd i never introduced myself to you in all that time i spent moping around the lab. guess i wasnt in a very good mood".

now not all the aradiabots would know who john is, because the trolls only found out about the humans once they created the genesis frog and hid out in the lab in the veil from jack who infiltrated their session. the aradiabot in the lab was the last one that survived. so if any one of them would know who john is, it would be the aradiabot that exploded. aradia's dream self ascended to god tier in jack noir's rampage on trolls' derse and took those memories with her which we can assume is what made the last aradiabot explode. its known that any original copy that dies when another rises up becomes a ghost and lives on in the dream bubbles, which would include her. a doomed aradiabot we see in the comic, which was the one that originally landed to alternia in the past, becomes more lighthearted after she dies, a bit more like her alive counterpart.

oh yeah, and the more obvious surface-level connections to top it off? ghostbusters? john ain't afraid of no ghost girl. john would be genuinely interested in what aradia living as a ghost irl on her planet and not as a gaming abstraction in the furthest ring would be like. i imagine she would be able to explain the subjective experience and that she had to prototype herself into the kernelsprite order for her server player to see her. there's also no way john hasn't seen a movie as classic as indiana jones and judging from her poster i can imagine he probably thinks it's sweet that aradia's strife specibus whipkind is a reflection of her own personal tastes, interests and hobbies.

so yeah i've just been chewing on all of this and thinking about it but i know i needed to just get this out there somehow. obviously since i spent two weeks putting this post together i'd be happy to hear your thoughts

He would be cooking dinner and rounding up the members to let them know it's almost finished when he couldn’t find you. Walking towards the bathroom door he knocked before he could register the sound of music. He then heard the music, knowing you wouldn’t answer his knock, he smiled lightly. You were in the middle of singing along to Matz when he had knocked. He would probably mention it once when you guys are alone just to compliment you.

Yunho

Yunho can’t find you, when you promised you’d play a game with him in a bit. A bit is now up and so he began his search for you, a promise is a promise. After looking everywhere he stepped towards your bathroom door. As he was about to knock, the song changed to Deja Vu. He could hear you singing along to his part at the beginning and he would melt in admiration. This is one random thing yunho would think to be one of the nicest things ever. He would mention it, almost bragging, because you sang HIS part specifically. That is until you got embarrassed and he would try and make it up to you due to his guilty conscious. He really didn't mean to embarrass you.

Yeosang would be similar to hongjoong, heard you singing It’s You by accident. He would for sure blush hearing you sing his part though and get red in his cheeks and ears. He wouldn’t mention that he heard you though, he wouldn’t want you to think he was listening on purpose. Might mention some of his favorites from their disography though, knowing you’d probably sing along to them when in the shower again.

San

I feel like if bored he would hunt down anyone he could find to fix his boredom with. You were next on the hunt list. He would look everywhere and when he finally found his voice coming from your bathroom door, he’d secretly record his reaction to your little concert. He could hear you singing loudly along to Cyberpunk. His little happy jumps could be heard in his recording as well. Would definitely send the video in the group chat and then show you what everyone said about your vocals.

Mingi

You and Mingi would some how always end up having insomnia on the same nights, best friends truly. This particular night he had been in his bed, unable to sleep, so he decided to go to the living room to see if you were up as well. If he couldn’t sleep he at least wanted some company with the same issue. He didn’t find you but he did have to pee. As he walked towards the bathroom the music increased in volume. He smirked and laughed as he heard you rapping along to his verse in Bouncy. He may record it like San but not share it without your permission. He’d rather keep it for himself to listen to when he misses you, needs motivation, or even just for a giggle. Might bring it up randomly out of the blue like, “oh yeah you are really good at my raps!” Confusing you of course.

Wooyoung

He would honestly constantly be bothering you so it didnt take him long to realize you weren’t in his vicinity. When he went looking for you he would come across the bathroom door, at first he thought you may be pooping due to how long you had been gone. Once he heard the water he laughed at his thoughts. After hearing the water he strangely heard his voice in Crazy Form come up as you sang along to his part. It was a good thing for him he started recording right before that. Would definitely send it to the group chat no thoughts in mind. “Guys check out who loves to sing my part only.” You would come out of the shower and while getting ready to finish your hair after getting dressed, you’d wonder why your phone was blowing up. You would check and immediately hunt him down. “WOOYOUNG!!!” The other members would hear the cummotion and let him get caught. Deserved.

Jongho

Jongho would also come across you singing in the shower on accident. He would think you singing along to Halazia was really sweet. He wouldn’t mention it but he would try to get you to sing on your own in front of him and the boys more often. Would also randomly ask about a duet for fun, raising your suspicions a bit.

So Calvin is working for the Court still, and somehow they end up assigning him to work for the Joker for a night. All hes doing is being extra security, and making sure the Bat doesn't find the Clown too soon, easy enough.

Until Sheila sells Robin out. Until the Clown starts beating him.

Until Robin starts calling out for his dad, asking his mom why she would do that. And Robin is a kid, he's a scrawny little kid, scared and confused and wanting his parent's protection, and Calvin can't do this.

He kills everyone in that warehouse, he can't leave any witnesses, then he grabs Robin and flees; he can't return to the Court after this, nor will Robin return to the Bat, who didnt save him.

Bruce still gets to the warehouse, but just as he gets there, it goes up in flames. When he frantically searches the rubble, there's blood and gore but burned beyond recognition; he has no way of identifying if it's Jason's or not. He has no way of knowing his son wasn't in that warehouse, no way of knowing Jason's still alive.

He plans a funeral and buries an empty casket. Dick loses his mind at the loss of his beloved owlet.

Meanwhile Jason is on the run with Calvin, who refuses to let the little bird out of his sight. The kid clearly doesn't have good parents, so it's up to Calvin to protect him.

And Jason already knows how to deal with Talons, how to communicate with owl noises and body language. He also knows that this Talon cares for him, feels protective of him, but won't let him leave, and he knows he can't run from a Talon; Dick would always find him whenever he tried to hide, for whatever reason. So all Jason could do was try and convince Calvin to take him back to Gotham.

Except as soon as he manages that, assuming Nightwing is patrolling, Dick notices a Talon's presence in the city. Of course he does.

He thinks nothing of it when he catches glimpses of Jason; hallucinations are becoming increasingly normal for him. But what chills him to the bone is that whenever he sees his owlet, the Talon he's noticed is never far behind; always watching, always there.

Calvin means it as protection, Dick sees it as a threat.

Eventually everything comes to a head after tension builds; maybe Dick somehow realized Jason was alive and thinks he's being stalked by the Court as a prospective Talon, so he lashes out at Calvin who fights back and eventually Jason has to get between them and explain everything.

Except Calvin has gotten attached at this point so he ends up getting dragged to Wayne Manor where he's accepted with open arms; Dick likes that he protected Jason and killed both Joker and Sheila, and everyone already knows how to deal with Talons so he's in good hands.

Omg poor Dick would feel like he’s perpetually haunted by glimpses of the past because— that Talon could very well be himself. Or he’s reminded of alternate universes and is heartbreakingly relieved that at least one version of him didn’t let his precious owlet die….

Meanwhile Calvin has hardcore imprinted on Jason, and Jason… well, he’s got experience wrangling Talons. This one obviously needs his help. Also, he may be a teeny-tiny bit pissed at Dick and Bruce. So, no going back home until he’s blown off some steam. Socialized Calvin. All that.

And with Jason and Calvin both busy navigating life (and some awful injuries), they both miss the nuclear fallout of Robin’s death….

Today was kaito's birthday, and since it was his birthday, you did everything in your will to make it special, ofcourse making a special birthday party would make it hard, not to mention expensive but you had to try!! It was his birthday after all and it didnt hurt to try right?

You first started the day by buying him ice cream, you hid it in the fridge so that when he gets in your shared apartment, you'll surprise him with that! Next you brought some small cake, the big one was too expensive, surely the small one will do..

You then decorated the apartment, just some small balloons here and there, since it was his birthday, ofcourse you were going to invite his friends, they too had to come! So you went online and started searching on what to cook, foods that would suit everybody, after an hour or so you started cooking, there were going to be 7 of them, plus you so that would mean you had to make food suited for 8 people! You didnt try anything like this since you came from a small family, but itd be worth a shot!

Ofcourse, you did some things that arent related to his birthday such as, taking care of plants, going to the mall, and going to your job, ofcourse when you got home you were a tad bit late, so you put on your apron and started cooking, you placed your phone onto a phone stand and watched their live, since it was his birthday, ofcourse theyre gonna put on a show, why wouldnt they?

After finishing preparing everything you texted kaito to be home as quick as he can, he still didnt see the message but he will, he never leaves you on sent, after a minute he sees your message, and goes offline, thats it? Does that mean theyre coming home? 8pm still not home, 8:45pm still not home, 9pm still not home, you started doubting, the food had gone cold, you placed the ice cream back into the fridge to avoid it melting, maybe he and his bandmates went out and ate out? But he wouldve texted you if they did.. maybe he forgot? It was almost 10 and you started placing the cake back to the fridge to avoid flies, then the door opened, and there it was kaito and his bandmates!

You quickly placed the cake in the fridge and helped them get inside. "Sorry for not replying, i was about to but my phone died..." Kaito, apologizes, you shook your head and assured him that it was all okay, rin, the band's keyboardist interrupts. "Oh wow! You cooked all this [Y/N]! Careful, lens gonna eat it all~!" She teased, taking a seat "i dont even eat that much! Unlike you!" Len, the bands guitarist argues back, Meiko, sits beside the two teens, giving them a glare "calm down you two.. " she says sternly, the two didnt calm down so they had to sit separately, Meiko, Rin, Luka on the right side, you, Miku, and Rin on the left, ofcourse Kaito would be at the center since this party was dedicated to him!

You all began to eat and drink, except the twins ofcourse, staying up all night to have fun, singing karaoke, and playing video games, you watched, Miku and Luka admiring rin and len's skill on playing video games, while Meiko lays down, too drunk to know whats happening,she rests her head on Rins lap "Stop moving Meiko! Im gonna lose!!" She whines, Len snickers "keep wiggling Meiko!" He teases, you watched them all, being happy that they enjoyed the small party you threw, after some minutes Meiko finally woke up and had an idea. "Guys! Lets sing kaito a... A happy birthday~!" She says with a song-sing voice, wrapping her arm around your shoulder, you nod and helped Meiko sit back down.

After singing kaito a happy birthday, you pulled out your small cake from the fridge "sorry if the cakes to small.. the big ones were expensive.." you added, looking a bit guilty, Kaito shook his head and gave you a reassuring smile "no,no.. dont be, im grateful for whatever you give me.." he smiles "Stop talking and blow out the candle!!" Rin exclaims, Kaito then blew out his candles, chuckling a bit "aha.. im starting to feel old.." he chuckles, Miku shook her head "26 is not that old.! I think.." she replied, Luka nodded in agreement.

After the party ended, the rest of the bandmates were gonna head home, they all had given their gifts back at the concert but you still hadnt given your gift yet.. "you sure you dont want me to drive you home..?" You ask, Luka shook her head "no, no.. me and Meiko live pretty close, rin, miku, and len also live ina dormitory thats just a 30 minute drive from my place.. its almost 12 so you should get rest, you did throw as a party.." she replied, You knew you could trust her, she only took small drink, maybe like one can, unlike Meiko..

You both helped eachother clean up, it wasnt that messy but still needed some retouches "you dont have to help me clean Kai, its your birthday" you say to him, he shook his head "no, i should help.. you threw me this party.. its the least i could do.." he says, while wiping the plates, watching you sweep, after finishing, you wanted to announce something.

"Happy birthday Kai.. oh! Here i brought you a present! Close your eyes..!" You giggle, Kaito smiles and nodded, closing his eyes "on a count to three open em okay? 1... 2... 3... Open!" As Kaito opens his eyes, he had an appreciated look on his face. "A crocheted plushie.. of ice cream..?" He remarks.. was your gift that bad..? Is it not that good? "Y-yeah! Took me a week.. do you .. like it...?" You ask, kaito smiles at you and gave you a hug "i love it.. i'll cherish it as long as i live" he added, the hug soon broke "this is the best birthday gift i could ask for.. thank you.." he smiles at you, showering you with compliments, you blush slightly at his words "awee..! Dont have to! Just doing something a good person would do!" The clock soon hits 12, Kaito's birthday had come to an end.

"Although.. there is something that i did want.." he blushed, looking away "oh! What is it then..? Im sure i can buy it for you next year!" You replied, kaito looks at you then, clears hos throat "is it too late for a birthday kiss..?" He asks.

You blush, and chuckles a bit, kissing his cheek, just as you were about to pull away, he grabs your waist and kisses you on the lips.. "i-im sorry.." he said, blushing madly while looking down, you chuckle and smiled at him "no,no.. im glad you kissed me.."He smiles at your response, hugging you, nuzzling his face to your neck, "oh.. well.. im glad you liked it.. though.. would you still be glad if i.. did more than kissing?"

When Edgeworth saw the gift that had been left for him, his first thought was that Oldbag had found some way around the instructions he’d given security about her. An elegant vase with a spray of flowers–lavender, mint leaves, autumn Adonis, and a single maroon rhododendron bloom. It had been left on his desk. There wasn’t a card in the arrangement. Slowly, Edgeworth set his briefcase down, studying the arrangement. It was too small and too tasteful for Oldbag.

He reached for the vase–a simple thing, of curved green glass. There was a small card tucked under it. The slip of paper had typed words, no identifying handwriting. No signature either.

I couldn’t bring myself to tell you.

Seven words, four types of flowers, and no signature. Edgeworth picked up the vase, moving it to the shelf under his window. It stood next to his tea set, unassuming, not looking like the source of a mystery Edgeworth now felt compelled to solve.

When he opened his laptop, he disregarded his case files, opening a new search.

Lavender, according to an 1865 book on flower meanings, could signify distrust, but an 1884 one noted it could also mean confession. The same 1865 source said mint could mean positive feelings towards someone. It added that Adonis’ flower meant painful memories, and that the ‘burgundy’ rhododendron meant ‘unconscious beauty.’ The same two books also agreed that in general, a rhododendron meant love, privacy, and trusting confidence.

Edgeworth sat back in his chair. Distrust, confession, warm feelings, painful memories, love, privacy, and whatever ‘unconscious beauty’ meant. There were very few people that could be from. He would investigate after he did his work.

The rest of the workday was spent assembling arguments in between fielding questions and evidence reports from detectives. It felt like days before Edgeworth could finally repack his briefcase and hurry downstairs to his car. A brief wave to the security room and he was out of the office. He’d gone there very few times, but he navigated to the Wright and Co. Law Offices from memory. Two lefts here, then a right. Park in the back lot, tucked away from the street. Take the office building’s main elevator up to the space occupied by Phoenix Wright and his rotating group of teenaged assistants.

Today it was the young Ms. Fey that answered the door, her jaw dropping at the sight of him. She couldn’t be a very good assistant if she made such obvious faces all the time, but she’d proved to be rather competent as a legal aide in the courtroom.

Now she called, “PHOEEEENIXXXXX!” as she ran to toss open the door to the inner office. Edgeworth winced. Maya Fey had quite the set of pipes. When he entered the office, he found the youngest Miss Fey watching television as Phoenix Wright sat at his desk, distractedly chewing on a pen.

“Mr. Edgeworth came to see you!” Maya sing-songed before joining Pearl by the TV. The pen fell out of Phoenix’s mouth.

“Uh–Edgeworth! I wasn’t expecting you!”

“I can see. Just as I wasn’t expecting to find this in my office this morning, Wright.” Edgeworth lifted the card that had come with the arrangement.

“I–um. Maya, have you and Pearl eaten dinner?”

“Not yet.” Ms. Fey was back on her feet at the mention of food. Edgeworth watched as his rival pulled a few crumpled dollar bills from his pocket, passing them to Maya distractedly. So this was how a stellar defense lawyer operated.

“Take Pearl and get burgers or something. Take your time.”

“Thanks, Phoenix! Pearly, come on!” The Feys cleared out quickly.

“Well?” Edgeworth leaned against a chair, looking around the room. Phoenix buried his face in his hands as Edgeworth looked at the scraggly plant by the window. It had been the eldest Ms. Fey’s once.

“I didn’t know how to say it.”

“To say what, exactly? A bouquet of flowers with conflicting meanings isn’t a good way of sending a message.”

“It was Maya’s idea. I just looked for the meanings I wanted.”

“Taking relationship advice from a nineteen year old may also not be a good course of action. What were you trying to say?”

“...Just sit down for a minute.” Phoenix scrubbed his hands over his face as he sat straighter in his chair. Edgeworth obliged. The sun was setting outside as he waited for Phoenix to speak.

It wasn’t silent in the office. The girls hadn’t turned off the television. A box fan was struggling against the heat that came with the final days of summer, before the autumn chill set in.

Over that, he could hear Phoenix whisper, “I didn’t want to ruin what we have.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“We’re only just trusting each other again. I don’t even know if you’d call me a friend. I thought if I didn’t tell you then maybe we could have at least a friendship.”

“Didn’t tell me what, Wright?” Edgeworth asked, even as he had an awful suspicion of what Phoenix was about to say. Mint for warmth, rhododendron for love and privacy.

“You don’t change your entire career plans for a man just because you were childhood friends, Edgeworth.”

“Ah.”

“I like finding out you’re my opposing counsel in court. I like watching you argue. I like listening to your voice. I like when you tell me something about yourself that you wouldn’t tell anyone else. I like seeing you be kind to kids–”

“Kids that you bring to crime scenes. I’m distracting them so you can’t permanently scar them.”

“Maya and Ema both approached me first!”

“Ms. Skye was brought into a situation she could barely comprehend, and she needed all the help she could get.”

“She still has that fingerprinting kit you gave her.”

“I’m aware.” Edgeworth had the Polaroid he’d been sent, of Ms. Skye waving her acceptance letter to the forensics academy, tucked in a drawer of his desk. It sat next to other pictures, mostly of Franziska after winning trials. There was one from the end of Maya Fey’s trial as well, of her waving a victory banner in front of both himself and Phoenix. He could admit he was prone to a certain sentimental streak.

“But back to topic! I… I like you, Edgeworth… Miles.”

Well. That certainly wasn’t what Edgeworth had been expecting when he’d come to see Phoenix today.

“And you didn’t want to speak to me, so you made a bouquet? Were you banking on me looking up the meanings?” Perhaps that was the wrong thing to say. Phoenix buried his face in his hands.

“I know you probably never want to hear from me again, but–”

“For God’s sake, Wright, pull yourself together. How on earth did you become a lawyer if this is the extent of your communication skills? Being afraid of rejection is no reason to act purposely obtuse.”

“I–I just–”

“I haven’t even rejected you and already you’re acting like your life is over.”

“Yeah.”

“Look at me …Phoenix.” Miles waited for Phoenix to lift his head. He hadn’t used his first name to address him in a very long time. “I… also have feelings for you. Our rivalry is limited to the courtroom, and you know this.”

“I do?” Lord, the man was frustrating.

“...And, I greatly admire your ability to be selfless, your endless empathy, and your strength and dedication to your ideals.”

“Do you also like my hair?” Phoenix’s face had a giant, stupid grin on it. Miles glared across the desk at him.

“My affection has its limits. But perhaps the way it frames your face has a certain charm.” Sensing Phoenix was gearing up with an awful comeback, Miles hurried to finish his statement. “It took time for me to understand what I felt for you, and even now it is taking everything in me to suggest we be anything less than utterly professional.”

“According to the judge, Godot, and even your sister, I’ve never once been even a smidge professional. Speaking of which, can I take you to dinner?” Franziska would have so many opinions on this, Miles was sure. And yet he continued in his new unprofessional behavior.

“Can you afford to?”

“Uhm…!”

“I’m joking. Naturally, I will take you out to dinner.” Miles stood, waiting for Phoenix’s response. And so he got to watch the object of his affections stumble to his feet, catch himself on the desk, and then knock over a stack of papers as he rushed to grab Miles’ hand.

“Can I kiss you?” Miles shot a look at the mess of papers on the floor before he looked back to Phoenix. “...I’ll get those put back later.”

“I suppose.” Miles leaned in, one hand coming to frame Phoenix’s face. He’d noticed he had heterochromia before, but now he got to stare into those beautiful eyes before Phoenix closed them and kissed him.

Phoenix’s lips were slightly chapped. He met Miles with enthusiasm, as if he had been waiting and anticipating this. Miles had kissed very few people before, his focus always on his work before anything else, and a part of him was unsure if Phoenix would be disappointed by the experience.

But when Phoenix pulled back, he dropped Miles’ hand to instead squeeze his face between his palms. “You’re beautiful, Miles.”

“You are also lovely. Where would you like to get dinner?” There were those shining eyes, one blue, one brown, blinking at him. Phoenix had nice eyelashes.

“I probably don’t know the fancy spots you like to eat at.” Most days Miles would pick up takeout and eat it in his office, but Phoenix didn’t need to know that.

“I’m certain I can choose something you’ll enjoy.” But Miles didn’t move, didn’t pull away from studying Phoenix’s face (he’d never noticed the freckles across the other man’s nose before) until the office door flew open.

“Phoenix! –OH!” At Maya’s yelp, Miles pulled back, suddenly quite aware of the two girls in the doorway and his own hand on Phoenix’s cheek. He didn’t have much time to process his feelings before the youngest Fey stalked up to Phoenix.

“Mr. Nick! That’s so unprofessional! In your office?! With Mr. Edgeworth?! How could you, Mr. Nick?!” To emphasize each sentence, Miss Fey punched Phoenix in the stomach. Miles hadn’t known how strong a preteen girl could be.

“Miss Pearl–”

“And you, Mr. Edgeworth!” She whirled on him. “You two are rivals! Why not at least try to act like it?”

“It’s complicated, Pearls. How about you and Maya hang out here while I head out for a bit? The evening cartoons are about to start.”

“Fine.” Pearl crossed her arms in a huff, walking back to the television as if she owned the office.

Maya didn’t say anything at first, but as Phoenix started to walk out ahead of Miles she whispered, “I knew it.”

Phoenix went bright red. Miles knew he probably looked much the same. When they made it to the elevator, Miles spoke again.

“Well… I know a lovely sushi place, over near the beach.”

“That sounds great.” Phoenix turned to Miles, giving him a peck on the cheek. How unprofessional. Anyone in the hall could’ve seen them before the elevator doors closed. But somehow, Miles found he didn’t mind.

DRUM RANT!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i was looking at what kit Matt helders (who is the drummer for Arctic monkeys) uses and I found out that he uses a modified type of kit, but the make of it is a Ludwig drum kit, specifically made in 1971.

it looks like this (it has more cymbals out of frame) :3 BUT!!! if you look at the head (the white part) on the snare drum, you can see an (albeit very faint) black dot on it. Ludwig kits don't come with those, meaning he's modified it. I did some digging, and found out that it's a Remo 10 Inch drumhead, often used for dampening audio and modifying it to have a very specific sound, depending on the type of drumhead you buy. his in specific is the Reno 10 inch for the snare, meaning that there is a high chance that he bought it to alter the audio from the ludwig kit and make it have a gritter audio. so he doesn't use it authentically! judging by the logo on his toms, he changed the heads on those, too, but if you look at his kick drum, you can see two black dots and kind of a swirly looking logo and if you look at the remo drumheads for sale, none of them have those dots or those logos going off of this evidence (and a lot of google searching) we can judge that he's kept the same model of drumhead since buying the kit, replacing it every six months (judged by the condition of his kick - looks well kept, meaning that he must be changing it regularly to avoid wear and tear during shows) he also uses the fatback 3a sticks, an unusual choice for a drummer considering the most common sticks to use (especially for musicians) are sizes 5a, 5b and 2b. 3a sticks are thicker than 5a sticks and slightly longer, meaning that they're better for rock songs. I use 2b, which are the thickest sticks on the market and are great for heavy metal songs (which I play a lot of) ^^ alright drum rant over part 2 maybe

oh, some extra info on IWYW. cant remember if ive already shared this, if i have im sorry, if i havent then here. taylor wrote that after a couple of months after her and harry broke up, and they decided to become friends again, and she said this was the first time she had become friends with an ex to the point where they were comfortable enough to talk about why the relationship didnt work out. and he said how, after they broke up, he bought a house literally one road adjacent to hers. and every day he would drive home, and accidentally turn into her street, and told her how he just wanted to stop at her house and see her, but he never did. and she said this song is about while he was in the car making the decision to get out the car and see her, she was sitting in her bedroom, wishing he would make the move and go back to her and just pitch up at her house. she compared it to a classic movie where both parties want the same thing but neither has the guts to say anything. and thats why the song has the lyrics of "driving straight ahead", opposed to taking the left turn to see her.

as far as i can tell the tumblr post i linked is the earliest surviving source for her saying this— someone saying a likely 1989 sessioner said it to them. i can’t find the the actual sessioner’s account (admittedly, i haven’t tried in a couple years, and ive gotten way better at searching old websites). so it might be a fabrication, but taylor can also can be a bit silly with her recounting of events so it might just be her telling a wee fib. but no matter what this is likely some level of a simplification

iwyw was likely written in late may 2013 (that’s coming from an aggravate of multiple sources that’s too hard to cite here, but it’s all that’s in the 1989 timeline in my pinned). at the time, taylor had two houses in LA (one appears to be a guest house, we only learned about it when she sold it in 2018), one in rhode island, and one in nashville. it is almost definitely referring to her LA house though, because harry never lived in the other two places.

HOWEVER harry didn’t buy a house in LA until march 2014, after taylor finished 1989 (non-taylor’s version). now, i’ve heard he was staying with a friend in LA in 2013 who lived close to her house, but i haven’t been able to independently verify it, and it was from a haylor account so i am wary of bias. there’s also no evidence of them talking until august 2013, three months after she probably wrote iwyw, but that’s easy enough to hide from the public.

tldr the sourcing is questionable and the story doesn’t match up with publicly available facts. there are alternative explanations with even more dubious sourcing. taylor lies for the sake of a better story a fair amount but also she is capable of hiding big things from the public. draw conclusions as you will but be aware that they are built on sand

Taylor swift - midnights. Shes got so many albums that its kind of easy for them all to bounce around but i havent been in much of a midnights mood lately. Its so terribly mid, overall. It should be said though that even though its my least favorite of hers, its still got double or triple the amount of streams from my favorite album on some of the other artists on this list. The power of taylor

Fall out boy - take this to your grave. There is nothing wrong with this album and its a great debut album, its just a little too punk and not enough pop for my preferences. Ive really grown towards it in recent years, though.

Panic at the disco - vivas las vengeance. I dont listen to panic much anymore, not like i used to, but come on. Come the fuck on. This may be the worst album to ever exist. As a death of a bachelor enthusiast and a pray for the wicked enjoyer, i have no fucking clue how he went from those to this. An utter disgrace.

Halsey - hopeless fountain kingdom. I dont think this album is bad by any means, but it came out during a time for me that my music taste was still rather limited, so i didnt enjoy it very much. My taste is a lot more expansive now, but she keeps releasing better albums that take my attention.

Belle and sebastian - a bit of previous. Im adding them to this list bc theyre one of my favorites, but i feel like theyre one of the only artists i listen a lot to without listening to the albums or at least associating their songs with them. Ive got favorite albums, but not least favorite i suppose. I have the least amount of streams in a bit of previous, so i put that.

My chemical romance - i brought you my bullets, you brought me your love. Straight up cannot tell you why i dont listen to this album it has been so long since i gave it a chance. I just dont listen to it. The black parade has 943 streams, this has 28.

Kacey musgraves - star-crossed. I dont think this album is very good and the accompanying film was so directionless that it further tainted the album. Breadwinner fucks hard, though.

Billie eilish - happier than ever. Ive got nothing against this album, i just think the others are better. LOVE the album cover and blonde billie though.

Of monsters and men - fever dream. I need to give this album another chance, but i was pretty disappointed when it came out. I think it was too poppy for me

gangara: joke ship made by @/johnadamsnotquincy of charles guiteau and guiseppe zangara. was ironically a "popular" ship in 2022, but wasnt serious (unlike boothwald, which was unironically shipped even before tumblr existed)

john hinckley smut fic: GENUINELY caused drama in 2022 fandom. someone posted a hinckley smut fic in 2022 and it was mentioned in the note that they were on the tumblr side of the fandom (keep in mind theres no other fandom. there wasnt a twitter or tiktok fandom), so everyone was arguing over who posted it. even now, the author never revealed themself 💔 luckily it was deleted a few days later. the reason it was treated unlike the boothwald smut fics from years earlier, was that hinckley was/is ALIVE and the fandom already was against writing porn of real people

ptsilenthill: summer of 2022 there was a post by ptsilenthill that pretty much showed the fandom to the general tumblr population. had THOUSANDS of reblogs before it was nuked off the site (links to the post go nowhere, i think it was because of ptsilenthill being banned instead of the post contents itself). some users were sent hate, and ptsilenthill and beams (the one refered to as 'daddy') got into an argument where ptsilenthill sent cropped porn? for some reason? beams being a minor was one of the main arguments (other person being an adult), and ptsilenthill was in his early 20s 😭 this is known as the "daddy post" and also was a reason the 2022 discord was made

john wilkes booth eating disorder headcanon: a guy in 2019 headcanoned him as anorexic 😭 i think the musical version, but still. this wasnt a big thing, just one or two guys, but its still very funny and shows how weird the fandom was

tumblr roleplay blogs: ALL of them are gone now, but in 2022 there were roleplay blogs of all the assassins, balladeer, and proprietor. literally so much happened. there was an oswald blog that the owner decided to give up on, so I created a lee harvey oswald blog 😭 this was more towards the end though. there was also oc blogs, but oc rp blogs arent crazy

nazi pony: someone had a nazi assassin oc that they mainly kept behind closed doors. so there isnt many tumblr posts about him (op blog is deleted now), but there WERE discord roleplays. KEEP IN MIND I WAS 14 OKAY. OP WAS OLDER THAN ME ☹️ anyways they made him in ponytown 😭
