The Detective Conan Cousins Reveal is reminding me of the time the Doctor and Master, from Doctor Who, were almost made half-brothers. Similar time frames too, being around 30 irl years after the characters were first introduced.

Getting stuff out of my system so maybe I can sleep. So obviously I loved The Giggle and loved the Toymaker, but as a Thoschei shipper I can't express how important it is to me how impersonal the Toymaker was about the whole thing and while my dreams of old men making out have not been realied, the ghost of the Master hanging over the episode really emphasised that. Like, welcome home cheater jokes are great and I was getting lowkey irritated by how both the fans and the writers were making ALL of the Master's actions about the Doctor.

But I was also worried that with a campy game loving villain that would also have a love hate obsession with and resentment for the Doctor, RTD would basically say behold the Master only +++ this obviously had nothing to do with CC giving the Doctor a literal speech about being better than the Master introducing a Dia de los Muertos villain that has soooo much history with the Doctor but is also soooo very powerful and then reiterating that the Master hates themself and only wants to be the Doctor but can't because of essentialism posing as existentialism. nothing whatsoever.

But no. Again, I am a bit tired of the Master being presented mainly as not-Doctor and I do think that if Ten didn't timelock the Tardis, they wouldn't have chosen their pet planet specifically, but compare Saxon's No. This is my turn. Revenge. Best. Served. Hot. to the Toymaker's cold Best of three. Compare the Master drawing pleasure from playing Satan the accuser about humans-turned-toclafane to the Doctor specifically because it's their pet species to the Toymaker being himself attracted to humans because of their nature sth sth Johan Huizinga sth sth homo ludens and play as the foundation of culture sth sth 2001: SO with bone and ball sth sth murder as kickstarter of culture and play as kickstarter of culture. Look at Ten's addendum of If that's what you want to the offer he makes the Master in s3, emphasising that he wants to understand what is it that the latter is after, and at Fourteen's certainty that the Toymaker really is only after games.

Don't get me wrong, I'm far from throwing monogamy at either the Doctor or the Master and they probably both made out with the Toymaker, both individually and menage a trois. But if after literal weeks of holding my breath for an actual cameo I leave the episode fully sated after a gold tooth and laughing sounds and people from outside my Davy Jones' Locker stuck ghost ship notice it too, then I'd say RTD did some really good job hanging the Master's ghost over the story. And that was not just to fan serve. It also made a point about the differences between those relationships.

It didn’t matter how the man came to him; he was there now, and The Doctor didn’t know for how long he would have. It was a clash of tongues and teeth, pulling scraping, deep growls, and needy whines. Every emotion escaped in that kiss—the anger, the betrayal, the love, the need—both were to blame, but no one wanted to accept the fault. They were at constant war, but they were so old now, and the war was built on events centuries ago; that should no longer matter, not in the many years they had lived. 

The Doctor didn’t want to fight anymore, not like this, not like they were truly enemies; if they had been nothing more than rivals, it would be different, but in between the aggression, there were moments of softness, or as soft as Koschei could be. Moments of longing, of whispered words of affection, only spoken in their native language, only in breathless whispers, as if saying them out loud would make them too real, and neither of them could go back to how it was before them. They understood each other in a way no one else in the universe could; they had been through so much, and now the Doctor just wanted peace, to retire; he wanted Koschei, and he was tired of the fighting; he knew deep down Koschei was tired of it too; of course, he had seen it in his next regeneration, Missy, the one that changed. The one that showed him his best friend was still in there, that he could change, that he didn’t have to keep being just a conqueror, that he could step back, that he needed to step back, feel that remorse, but he had no idea how to make this one see that. 

The Master hungrily kissed him, his tongue against his as The Doctor pushed him back down against the mattress, using the collar. His eyes darkened, his hips pressed up against his. Desperate for attention, but he wouldn’t vocalize that; he didn’t want to look as needy as he was, though they both knew it. He hated that The Doctor could see through his carefully crafted mask, especially in moments like this, when his mask was harder to keep a hold of. When he wanted nothing more than to feel Theta’s hands on him, sometimes he needed the roughness, but he knew that Theta didn’t want to hurt him like he deserved, so he would settle with the exploratory teasing touches the other man gave him. The Doctor’s hand slid down, touching his side, to his stomach before he reached between them, his hand wrapping around The Master’s aching member and stroking it, which pulled a low rumble from The Master’s throat. “Can’t just tease it, my dear,” he managed in almost a grumble.  “You never used to mind the teasing.” The Doctor shot back, shifting to be better in between the other man’s legs, using his own legs to spread The Master’s more. The man shifted more, getting comfortable in the new position. “Good boy.” The Doctor murmured as he leaned forward, catching The Master’s lips with his before he could pop off another snarking comment.

The Doctor had a lot of emotions, a lot of thoughts; he should by all rights hate Kos-The Master; he should never want to see him again, especially after what his future did to Gallifrey, something The Doctor had to live with but couldn’t blame this one for his future’s actions. It was hard to live with the knowledge of what the one person he loved with both of his hearts would do, that was unless. 

He could always convince him, but that would make a paradox: to change something like that, what if it was a fixed point? Did he even care about that now? This was his retirement, his reward—a reward he deserved. His hand slowed against The Master, he tried not to let it show his dilemma, he felt the Master tug at his mind, and he shook his head. He couldn’t afford to let him in mentally—not right now, not after everything.  The Master pulled back, “If you are going to fuck me, maybe do it instead of having an internal crisis… it’s all over your face.” He sneered, but the words held very little bite. “As fun as watching you internalize whatever it is you are thinking about, it’s not productive… So…get on with it, Thete,” he muttered the last bit. He knew he shouldn’t have tried to reach out through the psychic link, not after everything, but he wanted to feel all of him again.

The Doctor blinked. The Master never used his nickname, not in situations like this; it was rare when he would mutter it. The last time he could recall Koschei calling him Thete was when he was Missy and she was crying.

“Oh for fucksake… Did I just send you into another spiral?” he rolled his eyes and moved to push him back. “I’ll do it myself then.” He shook his head and straddled The Doctor’s hips; he licked his palm before he reached down to wrap his hand around him, stroking him with purpose. 

“Wait, I didn't—" The Doctor grabbed his hips, his hand moving to grope against one of his asscheeks. “I didn’t prepare you," he said quickly. The Master leaned over, grabbing the bottle of lube from the side table, before dropping it on The Doctor’s chest. He quickly grabbed it and squeezed some onto his fingers before moving, letting a breath out he didn’t know he was holding that turned into a grunt as the Master kept stroking him. He had to focus on making sure he was ready; he didn’t want to hurt him after all, even if he deserved it. After everything he had done, he deserved pain, but The Doctor couldn’t be the one to hurt him like this, not in this situation, not when they were entangled like this; he didn’t want sex to be a punishment. 

His fingers worked against the tight ring of muscles, feeling the Master rock his hips forward from the touch before settling again. The Doctor’s long fingers rubbed and pressed before easing into the hole. The Master growled out again. His eyes closed for a moment, relaxing into the feeling of the Doctor’s fingers thrusting against him. The Doctor’s other hand snaked up his chest to grab the collar again, pulling him down to kiss him. His fingers worked to find the right angle to rub against the other man’s prostate to stimulate him more. The little jerk that The Master did told him he had found it; he swallowed one of The Master’s moans before he moved. "Knees,” he said; it was playful but held a command to it like it wasn’t a request but a demand. 

The Master made a face at him but moved to his hands and knees. The way The Doctor held the collar put pressure on his throat, but that’s all it was; there was no real danger there. His hands wrapped in the sheet of the bed as he breathed through it, He felt the Doctor’s lips on the back of his neck brushing over his shoulder as one of the Doctor’s arms wrapped around his waist as he started to roll his hips. The Master grunted out as he moved back to match his pace, so he could feel like he was in control. The Doctor’s teeth scrapped against his should as he bit down and moved to pick up his pace some, keeping the pressure on the collar tight, pulling The Master off of his hands so his back was against his chest, his free hand unwrapped from around his waist and wrapped back around his cock, starting to stroke in time with his thrusts. His teeth nipped harder against him as he listened to the change in The Master’s breath. This was a battle, disguised, and he knew that; it was always like this, but this time he needed it to mean more. He was sure he couldn’t tame Koschei, and he didn’t want to, not really, not fully; he just wanted him back, just as Missy had wanted him back. He rolled his hips more, stroking The Master with more purpose as he felt the pressure in his spine and how his cock twitched against the clench of The Master. “Of course, you would only want a quick rough fuck, isn’t that right, Master?” he murmured into the man’s ear. The Master groaned out before taking a hissing intake of air. The doctor suddenly pushed the collar down, forcing his torso back against the bed. Someone, and I mean this dead seriously, needs to convince the Master that he is capable of making real friends and building a real life that has nothing to do with the Doctor, not even tangentially. And THEN, if he can build that world for himself, like the Doctor has for themself, THEN he can go back to the Doctor, and THEN they can be together.  The Doctor will STILL be the Master’s most important person, but the Master will no longer be DEFINED by whatever the Doctor is doing, being, or believing, at a given moment in time. 

As long as the Master needs the Doctor more than the Doctor needs the Master, they will never be able to reconcile. The emotional power dynamic needs to be more balanced. The Master DOES in fact need his own “fam,” and not one that he created using mad science....in order to goad the Doctor. 

I am not saying this in SPITE of being a Thoschei shipper, I am saying it BECAUSE I am a Thoschei shipper.

Somebody please contrast this with Missy stabbing Simm Master because it is THE most succinct explanation of how the Doctor can do the admirable work of pull ingthemself up out of the depths and do the hard work of healing and the Master has not yet had that opportunity.

And then let's gently but honestly discuss how this is connected DIRECTLY to the way Missy, and then Dhawan's Master, were led to believe (with the revelation of the Timeless Child offering no help in this regard) that to have value, they must choose the Doctor's attention--even high regard--over themself.

We joke about it all the time (I am no exception, sometimes it's genuinely funny after all, that the Master is essentially a murderous cat that brings the Doctor horribly mangled prey as love gifts), but the Master will never become the "so much more" that they could be until they do not need the Doctor MORE than the Doctor needs them. Until they BELIEVE this, and have an identity that isn't "baddie Doctor," or "anti-Doctor," or "Doctor's Best Enemy." Saying this as a Thoschei shipper is excruciating, lol, but it's true (that is, if you're not satisfied with the idea of the Master remaining a violently destructive villain in deep, deep existential pain, who is often a very funny and chaotic antagonist...some people are, and that's actually fine--I speak, I know, from a highly rare niche in the DW fandom, but even those of you who want the Master to be evil forever must admit...it's tragic as fuck).

I know the canon of the actual show will never allow this (although I'm the idiot who will never stop getting their hopes up), but the Master has to rebuild their identity independent of the Doctor if they ever want to be truly happy, but also not compromise their identity to get there. Dhawan was SO CLOSE: freedom restored, but excruciatingly aware that he had no "Fam" like Thirteen did, and ought to find one (of course, not in the way that he did, lol).

And I mean, now he's in a toothm and we all know how he/she/they get out of there isn't going to do anything to help this. But ah. A gal can dream.

Okay, this might be a hot take for tumblr, but I just want to say that if you enjoy reading, or even watching, taboo romance stories, that is okay. 

Like, there is a difference between The Unrequited by Saffron A. Kent or Misbehaved by Charleigh Rose(or any fanfic or wattpad story with the same topics), and My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell, and I’m pretty sure most people get that. The two former are there to get you horny and for fantasy indulgence, and the latter is a commentary and a “real life” story with a message. Both can exist simultaneously. (I have not read any of the books mentioned whoops, but i have read my fair share of fanfic, and reviews for the books).

Of course, this is just an example for one type of story, there are plenty of others(student/teacher as mentioned above, cheating, age gaps, step siblings, the good old stockholm syndrome etc. for example). I have lots of things that I enjoy reading every now and then(I’m not about to expose myself completely lol), that I would not be into irl, and would even frown upon, but indulging in fantasies from the safety of your own bedroom or wherever you prefer to read, is allowed and okay. Okay?

And if you don’t enjoy stories like that, that is completely okay, and you don’t have to read, but don’t shame other people for it okay. Like if you scrolled way back on my blog to the time around when 50 shades was coming out in theatres, you would see me protest it profusely(and i still don’t think it’s a very healthy or safe way of representing bdsm culture, given how mainstream it got), but now i’m like, if that does it for you, go ahead, you do you(safely please).

This is even more interesting when you consider Classic Who, because I believe there it is the Doctor who brings up their past more often. The first person to bring up the idea they have a history at all is... uh. Renemagritte...-on?

But yeah, generally throughout Threegado era it's the Doctor who's likelier to make the case of their friendship while the Master mostly insists on viewing the Doctor as an equal enemy (Moriarty to your Holmes thing). Unless of course the evil eldritch entity the Master evoked refuses to play nice and the Master has to go ask for the Doctor's help (another dynamic that changed the polarity in NuWho).

There's something interesting in the fact that at least as far as the main show is concerned, we don't know how Delgado!Master died (if there's something on this in the eu, please let me know!). Then when Crispy 1.0 meets Four it's established the Master's technically out of regenerations. This is arguably also the time he puts the Doctor through worst hell in classic who but there doesn't seem to be any unique reason behind this (the dream torture chamber is a smokescreen in fact). Then Ainley is... maybe the softest the Master ever was? At least in regard to the Doctor, he has bastard moments otherwise. And then I guess Roberts!Master has his (actually first!) death for totally good, really, but even then Eight makes a more than half hearted attempt to rescue him from falling into the 90s' fx vortex. Then when Simmy is so spiteful in TLOTL, he still references the events from the main series! The childhood is recalled fondly, and he even seems surprised when the Doctor starts talking with so much fervor about the times they cooperated (we don't talk about axons no no no). So, essentially the first to go for abandonment is Missy?????????

Going over their whole relationship is a revelation of how many taken for granted established facts are actually fairly fresh...

Today I heard a quote from Belgian writer Johan Daisne.

I thought it was really fitting for the Doctor and the Master. Also, because of the use of time.

And particularly how the Master might really feel in the long run. He of course would never admit that.

Sorry this isn't a question, I just wanted to share something that feels like a part of their very complicated relationship.

Regardless of which parts of Doctor Who lore you take as 'canon', it seems obvious that one way or another the Master feels the Doctor betrayed them early on. I'm honestly not sure how justified they are in that belief, but that's not really the point. We see glimpses of it in Simm!Master's resentment ("No, now it's MY turn to speak!") and the way Missy insists that it was always the Doctor running from her, not vice versa. Spymaster's sense of betrayal is fresher, in finding out about TTC, but it certainly doesn't seem like the first time the Master has felt the Doctor betrayed them in some way.

i love changing colors, i love when they are vibrant, i am also the kind of person who will turn everything into purple, but if the scene is purple i will try my best to make it look normal af and remove all the purple lmao idk why tho

changing colors is fun, like i did that on my pink Doctor Who gifset, and my golden Missy gifset

turning blue into pink or gold? im here for that :D but i rarely did it before, but i was challenged to do it, so i did :D and i think i did good.

if i see a kinda red hair, i will make it as vibrant as possible :D i also love when on gifs lips are red, idk why.

doctor who is a super hard to color, especially when you color doctor and the master, because i feel like show runners hate thoschei shippers considering all of doctor/master scenes are like this or worse

i mean, look at my doctor and master gifsets, i have a lot of them, those are all super edited because original scenes are the pain in the a$$ to color! they are either super dark blue or horrible yellow/red. 

i have not used this gif in a set, wanted to but it was extra so have it :D maybe one day i will make a gifset with yellow/blue combo and use it :D and i do love those two color combinations, like there are other colors too, but i make those two colors stand out so it looks nice. like the gif with miranda otto above, that color combination is really pretty 

also, i love making michelle gomez eyes really blue, or anyone’s lmao like if there are blue eyes consider me making them as vibrant as possible :D

not the best example, but it was not the best quality video and i did what i could. sometimes i make it with selective colors and hue and saturation, but sometimes i draw blue color over the gif. yeah, sometimes i love torturing myself and color each layer or a few layers and just move the layer where i need lmao

like previous insta videos of her i edited and made blue stand out, i did like that :/ but i would do more for that woman :D

my colorings are not super complicated, i usually upload those colorings i don’t use on my psd account @creationsofthedark​ so check it out, there are my first colorings i ever did, and the latest. you will not find channel mixer there tho, but it’s my fav tool now. i stopped updating the blog since... well, there was an incident where the person started doing what i asked to not to do, don’t copy me. i posted a gifsets with these colorings so why would you crop it the same way and color it with my coloring and post, the same scene??? after asking me sharpening settings also?? like, those were so similar i thought it is a repost tbh that’s why i stopped posting psds i use, and well, i use channel mixer mostly for correcting colors and it never works on 99% of the scenes, and i don’t wanna share coloring for one scene i already giffed, what is the point? so somebody could gif the same scene with the same coloring? nope. anyway, channel mixer as you see on previous creator tag games i did is really good when you need to correct colors, such as super red colors or yellow. unfortunately idk how to edit tHAT Doctor and Master scene from doctor falls, it’s the worst scene ever and i will not touch it again lmao, i tried I TRIED but... usual colorings which work fine on more than few scenes are uploaded on sideblog. and you may see there that i don’t do anything extraordinary, same settings almost everywhere, curves, levels if needed, selective colors and color balance are mostly used by me. and i always avoided using masks when i started giffing, but honestly that’s so good, don’t be scared to use them, they are really awesome when you need to correct part of the gif only. i also love using color fills, to change color of the background or a specific object, using blending modes, if the object does not move it is easy but sometimes it does not... like with the eyes, you have to draw over each layer or move the layer for each frame :D sometimes i use textures, but i usually blur them as on the first DW gif here. idk what else to say... :D

I wasn’t going to answer this stupid question, but I’ve decided how I’m going to answer now.

I want to clarify in that I am anti-noncon. I hate it and I think Ao3 should have a way to block the tag so you never have to see it. This is why I got this ask because I have made my opinion known to the group that are writing this stuff.

Let’s use you ‘noncontober’ thing as an example because I know it’s all thoschei and thasmin, but I’m going to use an example that will show how horrifying it is

Thirteen uses her telepathic abilities on Graham; she makes it, so he thinks he wants it and she makes him say “yes” because damn it, she needs the yes from him even though he never willingly gave it. 

She rapes him and then she erases it from his memory because she can, and well, he’s never going to remember, is he? She can do this as many times as she wants, and to all of them if she so wishes, surely it’s not all bad because it’s not like he remembers, is it? So, what is the big deal? She gets what she wants because she made someone believe they wanted it, even though when it’s all said and done he’s horrified, scared, and disgusted about it and then she deletes it from his mind so she can do it all again.

Yeah, are you horrified? Well, that’s what a good portion of thasmin and thoschei shippers feel when they see rape fics in the tags, and it’s okay if you want to write it, but you have to understand that people will take an issue with it and they will take that issue loudly.

And I’ve seen people saying that ‘Lots of women have these fantasy’ yeah, maybe so (even though the women I know don’t) but they don’t share them to get kudos on the internet and a pat on the back from their freaky little cult following that attack ANYONE who has a different opinion to them.

I understand the appeal to dark fics, but this is glorifying rape, and none of it is hot because none of it explores the actual horror of rape.

And the comparison to my whumptober stuff makes zero sense because I never once had Graham raped, yeah, he got hurt, but I explored the after-effects of being hurt like I do in the majority of what I write. It’s grasping at straws when you compare angst writers to writers who write rape so they can have a wank and get pats on the back.

What I have now lovingly called my "duck cult fic", due to the lenghth of that annoying title including a number I have not had to not look up once and also have no one to blame for but myself, has now passed 700 kudos.

Just to compare: My most liked Doctor/Master fic before that was Cosmos Without the Doctor with like.... 311 kudos. You have more than doubled that. I've been writing Doctor/Master for years and years and thought that was the highest I'd ever get and then Sacha Dhawan waltzed into that fandom, shouted, "Yeah, it's mine now, bring on the duck mannequins, Thoschei is getting a sudden rise in stock market, because this legend: hot. And that annoying Doctor fellow I really love hate? also... kinda hot! Don't tell her I said that."

So yeah.

Also, I get more and more comments and messages about how people love my writing? Like, they have???? Individually received my writing as something I, as an existing person, did and decided: Yeah what this person creates, that's neat.

Which is SURREAL. Someone the other day commented something along the lines of "Hoped someone would do that. And it's SO GOOD that it's you" and I'm still choking back tears a little. Like. I've been writing since I'm 12 or something and when I say it means everything. I mean that. It really does. And uhm. I never had so many people say so many kind things about it??? Like wow.
