Honestly same. Granted though, I think some Eurylochus haters hate him because of his 'hypocrisy'. The guy's introduction had him willing to raid the Lotus Eaters without much thought, establishing him as an "Act now, think later" type of guy. And when bringing up Eurylochus's sins, they usually point to the Circe Saga, where he was willing to abandon his crew at Circe's Island. So in my boy Eury's defense...
Eurylochus has always been for the crew, even if he wasn't always thinking straight, which is probably why his 'instrument' is his crew as backing vocals. His methods were questionable/misguided at times, but the intent has always been the safety of his men. Before opening the bag, he was more wary of Odysseus's orders. But afterwards, he put more faith into our boy Ody, because he had no reason not to. He didn't open the bag thinking it would screw everything up, my guy probably really thought there was something valuable in there, or was curious as to what Odysseus was hiding. It was stupid and brash, but you can see why he would do it, as well as why Odysseus felt the way he did, because not opening the bag would've been easier too. Odysseus literally told the crew what was in the bag, but it didn't save them in the end (someone else likely would've opened the bag, but that doesn't really matter right now).
At Circe's Island, he listened to Odysseus when he ordered him to take a scouting troop around the mysterious island, which ended with Circe transforming some of the crew into pigs. Eurylochus did want to leave, but given the circumstances, most people would! His scouting troop was taken hostage by a mysterious sorceress with potent magical abilities, and so far no being with those traits had their best interest in mind. In his mind, it was a death wish, and had Hermes not shown up, he would've been right, because they couldn't have taken her on, and they had other crew members to worry about. It was literally a stroke of deus ex machina.
Of course Eurylochus was gonna feel betrayed by Odysseus sacrificing six men. Eurylochus is the voice of the crew, and Odysseus was supposed to be their wise and cunning leader. Up to this point, they had no reason to believe he had nothing but good intentions for them, as evident by the "No more of us deceased" lyric. Odysseus has made mistakes that ended up costing some of their lives, but never on purpose, and never had he let them die without a fight. Nobody but Odysseus went into Scylla's lair knowing what would happen, but they'd learned to put their faith into Odysseus, even when Eurylochus noticed something was off when Odysseus was quieter than usual, because when has he ever given them a reason not to? This is the same guy that was willing to fight a sorceress for his crew not that long ago! From their perspective, it came without warning, and according to the animatics, Eury had literally been one of the men supposed to die (also either the rest were selected by Eurylochus because he trusted and liked them and Odysseus didn't want to be involved, or Odysseus himself chose who, like Eurylochus, he thought was going to be a liability. Either way, kinda messed up!). If your captain is willing to kill anyone to speed up the journey home, you'd feel a bit betrayed too.
Eurylochus killing the cattle is debatably his least redeemable sin. Odysseus pleaded with him, warning him of what would happen, but he did it anyway. And I think he did it because he'd lost any and all hope. Everyone's starving, the vast majority of his friends are dead, the gods want them dead, his captain actively tried to kill him, he hasn't seen his home, his family, in 12 years or so, and who knows when they would've found any more food again? Who's to say that if he didn't kill the cattle he, along with everyone else, wouldn't have a drawn out death via starvation? They probably could've found another island that didn't have a statue of Helios/maybe Apollo, but would they even have the strength to continue by then? At this point my guy just wants it all to be over. Not saying he should've done it, but also, I can see why he would all things considered. One could say he's just a man.
Eurylochus is far from being perfect and a saint. But to say he was completely in the wrong, at least in my personal interpretation, does a disservice to the moral complexity of Epic and what makes it so good. No one person is directly to blame for everything that happened. Polities's willingness to see the good in the world ended up with him trusting the wrong people, leading to his death and many others, which also led to the domino effect of Poseidon's never ending grudge against the crew. While it was Polities's naivety that killed initially, it was Odysseus's arrogance that caused him to shout his name to the cyclops he had just blinded, which let Poseidon know who to look for. And I don't think I need to reiterate what Eurylochus did. In none of these cases was harm intended, but good intentions can only get a sailor and his crew so far.
If we were to blame someone though, I'd blame Zeus. He seems to be behind everything, directly or indirectly, apparently.
anni are you anti-eurylochus? Because I know some people who are and it hurts me to my soul 😔😔😔😔 the crew would have died anyways regardless if he opened the bag. He was just hungry. Eury is just misunderstood 😢😢😢😢😢
If Eurylochus doesn’t have any fans, that means I am dead. To be honest, I was pretty neutral when it came to Eurylochus up to the Thunder Saga. I was never interested in him as a character, but when I saw all the slander, I was like, "HE NEEDS PROTECC!"
Seriously, I have a whole essay in my head about why all this slander came out of nowhere. But to sum it up, I think this is a case of scapegoating. After the Thunder Saga, we finally have a character that people can blame for Odysseus' misfortune instead of… well… Odysseus himself.
It will be a long post. I just need to sit down and actually write it…

it’s wild to me that like every modern adaptation of Sherlock Holmes (and by modern I mean “made recently” not “set in modern times”) is like Hell Bent on coming up with a Reason™️ that Watson stays with Holmes and trots around with him on adventures all the time despite the inconvenience and the danger and all, and so it’s like “oh, Watson’s a gambling addict, he loves uncertainty and mystery” or “oh, Watson’s an adrenaline junkie, he gets off on being constantly in danger from criminals” or even like “Watson’s atoning for sins of the past of BEING IN THE WAR by solving crimes with Holmes now” or WHATEVER. And it’s like, girl, maybe he’s just in love! Did you think of that?? Maybe he’s got a crush and it’s making him do stupid things. Maybe he’s just got bad taste and his type is guys who don’t know how to refold newspapers properly but can identify different types of cigar ash by sight, smell, and taste. And wrote a monograph on the subject. Maybe he’s down bad is all. I mean, Keep is simple, stupid!!!
#this whole problem also requires the extra step of making Holmes into someone who’s like actively cruel and terrible to Watson specifically#which like he also isn’t in canon at all#he’d probably be an inconvenient roommate that not everyone would personally want to put up with#but he’s not like endangering Watson all the time and interfering in his affairs constantly#The way writers always adapt him doing#so like it’s a problem they’re inventing and then writing a silly solution for#and no one better come for me for ‘bad taste’ I was trying to be funny and also Holmes is insane#the fact that Watson took one look at him and his bonkers lifestyle and pledged his life to him is just proof that Watson is also insane#in the when harry met Sally way of ‘thank god these two found each other and spared the rest of us the trouble’#anyway this is all part and parcel with the way writers who adapt Holmes don’t understand Watson#and even people who LIKE Holmes and get his deal still rarely get what makes Watson great#BUT that’s an essay for a different time and I won’t get into it now#sherlock holmes#john watson#doctor watson#acd#acd canon#tagging this as canon is sooo silly sorry but I don’t know what else to put#also worth noting that like the idea of working with Holmes as this chronically super dangerous thing is also silly#Like a solid percentage of their cases are solved from the comfort of baker street#there’s definitely some dangerous cases (‘bring your revolver’ is a meme for a reason after all) but like not enough of them#that you can make a strong case for John Watson: Adrenaline Junkie™️#except that modern writers make every case life or death high stakes serious so like….thats where it comes from#ANYWAY

Hermit A Day May 8: Hypnotizd
It has been a long long time since I've drawn my little Eldritch Cheerios Eyestones, but if anyone would have em, it would be Hypno!
His armor is loosely based off one of the Frenzied Flame armor sets from Elden Ring, because, more eye themes for the eye guy.

"Left where you are right, in all things -- including the heart."
Stumbled across some more reflection lore recently and UMMMMM I CANT BELIEVE DRY SAMUEL CANONICALLY SOLD MY CHILD TO MR FIRES?????????
(context under the cut)
So in the Parabolan War, if you're a little careless about empowering your reflection to help you, it can tAKE YOUR TROOPS AND MAKE YOU WAGE A CAMPAIGN AGAINST YOURSELF.... at the end of which it admits that it lured you out here because it wants to know what would have happened if it had chosen differently -- the one difference between you and your reflection is a crucial choice in the pursuit of your ambition: where you went right, it went left. Your reflection makes the opposite choice to you, and if you decide to sate its curiosity, you get to show it what's different -- in my case, my reflection saw the light of the hybrid false-star, safe on the roof, and I saw the reflection expensively dressed and felt the security that comes with the gratitude of a Master.
So obviously I had to lose my mind and draw this immediately.
I think a version of Samuel who sold the hybrid would have to have done it for the sake of London, a child sacrificed to save the city. But I don't think he could make that choice and not be changed by it, not let it make him a little more cynical, a little more willing to ingratiate himself with power when needed. I also like the idea of every piece of the end of the ambition going slightly to the left in Reflection Samuel's version of events -- Where Samuel apologised and bowed to the Boil to make amends, his reflection reaches for the power the Cats offered that would let him win. Where Samuel hesitated and looked for mercy when confronted with Poor Edward's violent whirlwind of self-destruction, his reflection shoots him dead. He's not an evil version or anything, he's mostly the same guy -- just one who was willing to prioritise the safety of his friends and his city over his own morals.

How do you imagine hybrids work in love and legends? We've seen elf/humans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So there are 6 different species and aside from the mermaids, they're all compatable to have children.
I headcanon life expectancy, colouration, and the shape of facial or body features to be gradient traits, so they pretty much randomly combine between the two parents like any other child
Magical traits are probably more binary. So a fairy hybrid child could inherit the eyes, wings, and/or sparkles, or none, with no middle ground. A demon hybrid will usually inherit a faded form of the markings, but they won't always be able to transform or earn horns. Dwarf hybrids might inherit the ability to echolocate vs just having larger ears.
If two species with strong magic have a child, they're more likely to inherit magical traits (e.g. elves and fairies with strong magic vs humans and dwarves with low magic)
Considering the domains are all friendly with each other, I imagine it's fairly common to have mixed ancestry and there's no real taboo aside from the grief of lifespan differences

I see a lot of crossovers that talk about people misunderstanding Vlad and Danny, but what about some fics where the town notices?
After Vlad becomes mayor he’s being watched more and people start noticing his unhealthy obsession with Danny Fenton. They notice how uncomfortable Danny is, how creepy Vlad is, and come to their own conclusions.
It’s even better/worse if Maddie gets tipped off about it, and she is about to brush it off when she realizes her son has been going out at odd times, having new injuries and there is always something off about his conversations with Vlad.
It’s even better if she knows about Vlad’s crush on her and hears him comment about how much Danny is like her.
This doesn’t even need to include Ellie at all yo be sus. All it needs is some unfamiliar eyes watching this grown man act creepy around a child and anyone could come to the (wrong) conclusion.

I keep on thinking on mystery trio aus and also how few early weirdmageddon aus there are. so imagine with me somehow Stan ends up in gravity falls during Fords paranoia era and somehow Fidds is still there and not fully cult leader crazy yet. Ford still tries to get Stan to take the journal, Stan gets branded, the works.
But when the portal gets activated Bill goes ahead and makes his way through and starts the oddpocalypse.
now, rather than it being like, three days, it’s weeks upon months on the run around town. Trying to keep Bill from capturing Ford, since he doesn’t have his destabilizer. No one is happy, Stan and Ford are constantly fighting. Fidds is loosing his mind and at the edge of his rope. They get to the unicorn glen at some point and basically break in and force them to let them stay while they figure stuff out. somehow, they manage to get unicorn hair and decide to hold up in the museum. And discover just about all of the town survivors (human and anomaly) in there. Everyone is convinced that if they sacrifice Ford they will be spared, and it takes Stan threatening physical violence and Fidds mental violence to stop that from happening.
they fortify the museum and everyone gets sleep. Que bonding and reconciliations (for the most part, Stan and Ford still have issues) and Fidds recovers enough to start building a battle bot, nothing like the Shack-a-tron, but it’ll work. They restart project mentum, most everyone gets their thoughts encrypted, Stan isn’t there, he’s out gathering supplies. Ford discovers the banishment spell. But then one day something happens.
the barrier goes down.
Ford is captured.
they go to save him.
they manage to distract Bill like in cannon.
Ford and Stan still argue.
everyone is turned into tapestrys (Except for Fidds and maybe Tate or Emma depending on how this au would go.) When Bill comes back with Ford and Stan are still caged, Stan looks weird, more disheveled hair under the beanie, but no one notices. Neither do they notice the worried look on his face. Ford Makes a deal with Bill.
While Ford lands on his knees, eyes closed. Stan removes his beanie, all of the hair falling to the floor. Hat clutched in six-fingered hand. The other pulling out the memory gun.

Dorian Pavus is a what now??
pls I’ve been laughing over this since yesterday. imagine if there was a special dialogue trigger for romanced Dorian like:
Inquisitor: Dorian Pavus is an old friend. He filled me in.
Harding: Old friend, huh? That’s a funny way of saying—
Inquisitor: AHEM. Morrigan has told me what you’ve accomplished since taking over for Varric…
