Another outbreak, another day. Really what was the difference when the world was going to hell in a handbasket? He certainly didn't _want_ to be here and yet.. The pay was good even if the job was shit. Cleaning up after Umbrella's messes was getting old though and he's tired. Exhausted really. And fuck.. There's no getting zombie out of his clothing. He counts his lucky stars that it's field work and he isn't expected to wear his designer suits. No one wanted to see the boss go off if even one zombie or infected dared to touch him when he's wearing Ferragamo. He'd single handedly level whatever town they had landed in this time. Something's different with this job though. He had seen handful of DSO agents running around, one in particular catching his eye. Leon Scott Kennedy was as well known as an agent could get. Skilled, clever, smart and traumatized if the reports were to be believed. So why was he out in the field?

Same reason you were, Billy Russo. You had a job to do, a company to keep afloat and mouths to feed. Yet.. He's curious and once the day was done, his part of the job complete, he hunts down the agent and sits opposite him.

"We both look like we could use a drink." He sets the bottle of whiskey between them, two glasses joining the party and flashes Kennedy that devil may care smile.

“What are you doing?”

KXK-V3 stood suddenly, leaned down, and pressed the side of his “head” to my chest. I grabbed his metal shoulder so the force of it didn’t push me and my chair back. I could climb up his frame and onto his shoulders if I wanted to, and my full weight would hardly cause him to budge.

“V3?” I asked again.

“Determining the source of the racket,” he replied.

I raised a brow. “Racket?”

“You make a constant racket,” he said, and his gears and servos whirred as he lifted an arm to tap it against the arm of my chair.

 Tap-tap. Tap-tap. Tap-tap.

I wasn’t aware his audio processors were good enough to pick up stuff like a heartbeat from the seat at the other end of the dashboard. Then again, for an engineering robot, he did have a rather humanoid design. Maybe it was just to help me be less lonely. The people who designed him knew how long I’d be out here and that he would be my only companion for the duration.

“That racket means I’m alive.”

“Shh.” V3’s voice modulator made a sound more akin to signal static than the shushing of a mother to a rambunctious child, but I obeyed and let him continue his observations. I sat there with his cold, metal head pushed against me for quite some time before he finally stood up straight.

“You’re noisy,” he said, retreating to his seat. “You’re full of thumping and whooshing and vibrations.”

I kicked my feet up onto the dash. “Yeah, that’s human inner workings for you.”

His eyes—optical sensors, whatever—were tilted toward the dash screen. “Can you hear all of your noise?”

 “Not always,” I shrugged. It was easy to forget how little V3 was taught about humans—which was to say he’d been taught nothing. “The thumping, my heartbeat, I can hear when I’ve been running or when I’m scared. Or when I’ve been trying really hard to unscrew the vent bolts and I’ve been holding my breath and giving it all my effort. It starts beating harder, and it’s like I can hear it right in my ears.”

“Hmm.” A low hum. “I hear you whooshing all the time.”

I nodded. “Yeah, that’s breathing. That’s as essential as a heartbeat.”

“If humans don’t breathe, they die.”

I guess they taught him a few sparse facts after all.

“If they don’t breathe oxygen, yes.” I took an exaggerated breath in and let it out slowly. “I can technically always hear myself breathing, but I block it out most of the time.”

V3’s head whirred toward me. “Do your central systems do that automatically?”

“Yep. My brain decides it won’t allot the energy to paying attention to it since it doesn’t help me in any way to hear it. I don’t notice it until it’s different than usual, faster or heavier.”

“Hmm.” Another low hum. I liked to think those hums mean he’s thinking. V3 turned his head back to the dashboard and continued plunking away at the keys. “I’ll have to create a monitoring system.”

“What for?” I pushed myself his way, bracing against the impact of my chair reaching the end of its sliding track. He was checking on the posterior engine coolant systems. If we needed to create a new monitoring system for those, I was going to be in for a very long maintenance circuit.

V3’s tip-tapping on the dash keys didn’t stop. “For your racket.”

I looked up at him. “What do you mean?”

“A monitoring system will allow me to monitor your imperative functions,” he reasoned, “and therefore alert me if one of them reaches a critical state.”

 Tip tap tip tap.

I slumped back into my chair. I couldn’t help but wonder if that aligned with some programming or mission statement, or if watching to ensure I’m alive was a decision V3 made all on his own. Either way, it was a lovely, thoughtful gesture.

“Your thumping is getting faster,” V3 said, tilting his lenses toward me.

“I’m feeling kinda happy,” I replied. “That happens sometimes.”

“Hmm. It appears I need to run a better analysis of the rate of the thumping and adjust my critical alert threshold. My alarms are already warning me that you are in a critical condition, and you do not appear to be.”

I chuckled. “Tell you what, you keep working on the coolant systems, and I’ll look up what the optimal and safe ranges of beats per minute are.”

V3 nodded, his head bending until the frame of his “face” touched his chest plate. “Bargain accepted.”

thinking very hard about the concept of a machine finding appreciation/fascination for a person's heartbeat or breathing, similarly to how a person would find the hum of a machine's inner parts running to be pleasing to listen to or feel

i feel like Most dpxdc crossover fics have dp and dc in the same universe which like, is still fun don't get me wrong, but there's so many missed opportunities with them being in fully separate universes!

i'm specifically thinking of an au where the dcu is fictional in danny's universe like in ours. so instead of him being dropped in a random city, he's fully isekaid into the dcu and has to deal with the implications of that. danny not being a dc fan could def be interesting, but i personally really like the idea of him being a fan! i think he'd be really into characters like martian manhunter or the superfam since they're more directly related to space, but i think he'd have appreciation for the common dpxdc characters like the batfam too.

but anyway i'm just thinking of dc fan danny who somehow gets dropped into the dcu and is immediately clocked as Different and Knowing by literally every hero/vigilante there. damian screams bloody murder at him and danny just gives him this look like "i know what you've been through and you're just a kid so i won't hold it against you even though that was pretty mean" and damian is sooo pissed cause what the fuck does this guy know?? danny looks at jason like he's seeing robin and not red hood,,, he sees batman one day and gives him the most begrudging respectful and also highly judgemental glare. danny seeing clark on the street and immediately noping and turning around like no not dealing with superman today no thanks. danny randomly happens to be walking next to wally and tries to get him into a walking race. danny who keeps looking up at the sky whenever the watchtower is above him.

i just love the idea of danny walking around knowing way too much, not even necessarily being Powerful at this point, he just knows! too! much! and every hero who meets him feels completely exposed like how does this random kid give everyone the heebie jeebies.. what does he know.. how much does he know... why does he know... etcetc.

Now I can finally reveal what I've been up to for these last months...

I'M MOVING TO JAPAN ✨ Osaka, to be more precise (hi Majima)!

I'm going there now on June 26 to study and improve my japanese so I can make my comics and doujinshis in JP too! I'm gonna stay there for at least 2 years but my plan is to stay there for more time or even permanently... Let's see what the future will hold! Like a lot of us, I always had a lot of admiration for japanese culture, art and language, and visiting Japan has been one of my biggest dreams since I was little and I can't believe it's becoming real 🥺💕 (living in a 3rd world country is almost impossible to travel abroad lol)

Since I have to be there in one month and I'm moving to a whole different country, you can already imagine how busy I am setting everything up (visa, flight tickets, renting apartment, taking online tests for my classes, medical appointments, etc etc etc) xD I can't tell yet how my art making process and posting schedule will be affected during the month of June but I'll do my best to keep working on 80s Goromi doujinshi during this time because it's very important to me 😤

Also, in the future, if you notice that I'm suddendly reposting my old Yakuza comics in JP somewhere like Twitter or Pixiv that means I'm already making sweet progress in my studies dsgjkdfhfkd

"A gentle breeze... from Hushabye Mountain softly blows by Lullaby Bay..." You sang softly under your breath. It was a comfort song from your youth, one that you had committed to memory.

It was undoubted a lullaby and sometimes it was the only thing that could get you fall asleep, even if you had to sing it to yourself.

But you didn't want anyone to hear you.

You had been awake, tossing and turning for what felt like hours without any respite from your chaotic thoughts. You sighed again, letting your eyes closed as the melody plays in your mind.

"It fills the sails of boats... that are waiting... Waiting to sail... your worries away..." You find yourself yawning. "It isn't far from Hushabye Mountain... and your boat waits down by the key... "

You snuggle deeper into your blanket. The boys are quiet around you. You're sure that they're sleeping already. You try to sing quieter, not wanting to wake them up.

"The winds of the night... so softly are sighing... Soon they will fly... your troubles to sea... So close your eyes on Hushabye Mountain. Wave goodbye to to cares of the day..." You can already feel yourself nodding off. "And watch your boat... from Hushabye Mountain... sail far away... from Lullaby Bay..."

You had thought that would have been enough. You no longer have the energy to keep the song going, even if you aren't fully asleep yet.

Someone else starts singing. It's a lower voice, soft but gentle.

"It seems like only yesterday... you were just a child at play... now you're all grown up inside of me..."

Your heart begins to pound, the shock of the fact that someone had heard you spikes your adrenaline. The efforts you've made to sing yourself to sleep were dashed in a single moment.

"Oh, how fast those moments flee... Once we watched a lazy world go by..."

You focus instead on who might have heard you. That doesn't like Warrior and you doubt Time would have sung anything even if he heard you. Sky was still dead asleep.

"Now the days seem to fly... life is brief, but when it's gone... love goes on and on... love will live... love will last... love goes on and on and on..." The voice continues. The soothing sounds by the fire were a caress to your senses. The tender tones of the voice were enough to calm your worried mind back into a limbo of conciousness.

You know you slept through multiple shifts at this point. By the stars- it still could have been any of the boys!

"Once we watched a lazy world go by... Now the days seem to fly... Life is brief, but when it's gone..."

You yawned for a third time and felt your head grow heavier. You couldn't fight it. Maybe they were just returning the favor. It was late. And so many of the others were still asleep. For all you knew it was just you and this mysterious voice that couldn't pin down.

You elect to ignore the panic in your mind. You're tired now.

You fall asleep.

Hey, I started reading Robin son of Batman because of your recommendation (I literally have a print of your post on my phone to not forget lol). Honestly? One of the best things I ever read!!!

Thank you for opening my eyes! Damian has been one of my favorite characters for over a year, but I didn't read/watch much of him because of school, life (and probably an executive dysfunction in the mix).
