Effervescent Corrosion E.G.O Queequeg

Awakening: Truly want…this pearl?

Corrosion: Filth! Filth! All filth after all!

Reasoning: I have stated many times that I have decided to forgo Blind Obsession for her WAW EGO. Instead, I want to give her Effervescent Corrosion from Ambling Pearl. Why?

In canon, Queequeg displayed clear envy for the Abnormalities because they have wishes while she didn't. She did say "Abnormalities," plural, but to that point, we have only fought Mermaids in gameplay.

After she said it must be nice to be an Abnormality, we fought Ambling Pearl. So, if I have to pick one Abnormality that she was specifically jealous of, it'd be Ambling Pearl.

Ambling Pearl also inflicts the larva status effect. A larva is a wingless, worm-like form (like a caterpillar) hatched from an egg. It fits perfectly with Queequeg saying she couldn't become a cocoon.

Other than that, Effervescent Corrosion has the theme of filth.

"Filth nests inside me... so that they may be reborn as something useful."

This is Hong Lu's Corrosion line. I feel it is particularly fitting for Queequeg.

"Crawling in filth. Thinking filth was everything. Thought filth was the world. Thought I knew the world."

Right, just to explain why I link the image of filth to Queequeg, that was her line in Canto V.

Queequeg calls herself a maggot. She already thinks herself is filthy. But there is a pearl inside her. It's covered in filth, almost, but still shining. Queequeg would ask you if you truly want it, the pearl covered in filth.

Anyways, the pearl is compared to the reason for the Ambling Pearl's existence. Without the pearl, the Abnormality may crumble away. Coincidentally, Queequeg is also struggling to find a reason for existence of her own.

Queequeg was ceaselessly scratching at her arm as her eyes remained fixed on the Abnormalities.

She was scratching so hard that blood and pale gunk were starting to seep from her torn skin.

Oh right, Queequeg lied btw (/j). 30 minutes later, she told Dante she wished Ishmael to find her way. So she did have a wish of her own. Without that wish...without Ishmael...without the pearl...she crumbled (only in my fic tho).

The more I think about it, the more I think Ambling Pearl was there for her.

Personal note: This EGO is Envy. On account of how Queequeg was jealous of the Abnormality it was from. I know it's green. I don't care.

sometimes I think about how Ishmael and Queequeg are like my favorite fictional couple bc they capture a certain loving intimacy that goes past the standard romance

they're very gentle and adoring of one another in a way that's very obvious to the audience and it's clear that they're more than just 2 characters in a relationship

they're people who became friends, and those friends happened to love each other in a way that's heartachingly intense, to the point of quiet romance

like you can imagine how they'd act around one another based off of the flashbacks they got of eachother, and even despite all the years that went by, Ishmael treats Queequeg so delicately

bc she has the intimacy of knowing her

you don't need the kiss they were likely robbed of in Queequeg's last moments bc you know they love each other

you can tell that they spent time dreaming about their sailing boat

you can tell that they likely spent time softly talking before they fell asleep

you can tell that they adore each other bc they're people

Chat should I talk about how Ahab told Queequeg to divorce her wife in the Gasharpoon boss fight?

Trick question. This isn't twitter. I am not bound by the word limit here.

In the literal sense, Ahab is telling Queequeg to sever the Knot. But what is the Knot to Queequeg? It's the bond between her and Ishmael.

On a visual sense, I think the ropes on Queequeg's body could correspond to the chains on the Middle's.

And, what does the Middle's chains represent?

We have this voiceline from Meursault's Middle ID.

We can infer that the ropes on Queequeg serve a similar purpose, but they aren't chain anymore. They are the ropes she purposefully tied on herself and Ishmael:

Not only in the scene where Queequeg took Ishmael out of the Whale oil, but also in the fact that Ishmael held onto Queequeg's rope to live and return to land.

The rope, the Knot, represents their connection to each other, but this is what Queequeg had to say in Canto V:

While Ishmael is desperately (puns intended) to hold onto their relationship, Queequeg already knew one of them is doomed. The rope is already cut. And she cut it on Ahab's order.

So yes. Ahab kind of widowed Queequeg, and when it turned out that her wife was alive, she ordered her to divorce. It is also reminisced of the Little Mermaid's sisters telling her to use the Sea Witch's dagger to kill the Prince to save herself.

By the way, her iconic: Rope. Grab tight. Or sink. is not about Ishmael most likely. It's about herself. It's about herself. She was the one who didn't grab tight onto the rope and sank. You can analyse it further by saying her not grabbing tight to the rope is akin to her letting go of their relationship and her own affection in Ahab's order.

Also, Queequeg has 2 main interactions with the rope: tying it or cutting it. Tying it is associated with Ishmael, loving her, having a future with her, rescuing her (twice). The act of cutting it is associated with loyalty(?) for Ahab, separation from Ishmael, and even the act of hurting herself, using the same dagger.

Oh right. Queecliff's third skill is called "Sever Knot", which is an envy skill and has more buffs with envy resonance :]
