Unless you only play tRIpLE A titles this will most likely affect a game you like. Hell, it can even affect really big games like Pokemon Go.

For a long time, starting years and years back, a lot of people have been talking about the preservation of games and being against moving to digital only games for reasons like this, and how the greed of various big companies in the game industry will negatively impact access to games and their preservation. It's happening. This will impact games that are already out. This will impact games being made. This will impact games made in the future. So if you care even a teensy tiny bit about a single game made in unity, or you care about the future of game development period, I suggest you pay very close attention.

A good article from an indie developer detailing the changes and exactly how it screws devs over:

I remember watching an early let's play of Rimworld that that was the naked brutality start (you start with a single naked pawn and absolutely nothing else) on an ice sheet map (extremely cold and will kill you within hours without a heat source or clothes).

He was able to survive immediately by building a small structure around a geothermal vent for warmth. But the primary way he survived past that was using possibly the funniest exploit of game mechanics ever.

Something the game does is if it can tell you're struggling-- for example, you only have one pawn in your settlement-- it will increase the likelihood of events that increase your population. This was an early version of Rimworld so the most common of these was a transport pod crash event. Basically someone crashes onto the map semi injured and you have the ability to heal and rescue them and they might join you.

Due to it being an ice sheet map, though, resources are extremely limited. It's impossible to grow crops without a lot of technology investment, and only a few animals will spend any time on the map due to the extreme temperature so hunting isn't very viable either. So recruiting another person early on is a bad idea as you'll both starve twice as fast.

So basically what I'm saying is he made sure his starting pawn had the Cannibal trait and used the steady supply of pawns the game kept helpfully throwing at him as his primary food source

everybody talks about all the dunmeshi characters playing video games or whatever like marcille playing rimworld with a spreadsheet and senshi playing cooking mama and stuff but i think everybodys forgetting the most devastating fact of all here.

current status:

a neighboring culture requested to send a representative to hang out at my base for a couple of weeks. I accepted, in the hopes of fostering some good relations with the neighbors

a few days later, a small group of fire-breathing raiders attacked. the base is surrounded by multiple layers of traps at this point, so they died quickly, but not before setting some big fires. Yoshiko was caught in one of the fire blasts, herself. she spent the next two full days desperately beating out fires to prevent them from burning down the base, with only occasional breaks for a nap, some food, and treating her burns after like a full day. (if fire poppers hadn't been the very first thing I researched, she would've been a goner)

During this, her guest from the other culture ate some of her delicious home cooking and got a violent case of food poisoning. Her guest was also already suffering from drug withdrawals, because due to her beer-chugging ways, I don't trust Yoshiko with actual drugs. Unfortunately for the guest, these two factors combined to make her collapse to the floor. in the walk-in freezer. and Yoshiko was busy with the fires and stuff, so didn't have a ton of time to help her. so the lady just kind of laid in the freezer, puking all over herself, for two days

about 3/4 of the way through the wildfire saga, Yoshiko grabbed some food and she, too, got food poisoning. she somehow still managed to beat out the last of the fires, and was left malnourished (from barfing out everything she ate), exhausted, and on the verge of a mental breakdown from unhappiness

this was when another band of raiders attacked

I tried to have her take up her gun and defend against them, but instead she just kinda walked outside and collapsed in a puddle of her own vomit. however, her rings of traps saved the day, and both raiders got beaten to a pulp in the process of trying to get to her. I wanted to take one of them prisoner to try to recruit a second colonist, but even when Yoshiko stood back up, between the food poisoning and the burns she'd gotten from the fire, she was moving too slowly to make that feasible. Instead, she left those two guys bleeding out, and her guest starving in the freezer, as she crawled to bed for some well-earned rest.

she's fifteen now, and still basically useless at anything but research and shooting. (she's gotten lots of practice at the latter)

I've tried to get her somebody else to help out around the place three times now. In order:

captured a raider with the intention to convert him to my cause. He died of massive infection from the wounds he got while being captured, and Yoshiko felt miserably guilty about it for like two weeks

bought a 12-year-old slave, hoping to free her and make her a full colonist. doing this, though, involves arresting the slave and then winning them over like any other prisoner. as soon as Yoshiko tried to arrest her, the slave went berserk for some reason, and the robots gunned her down.

took in a runaway who wandered in and asked to join. he was competent and handy! he was one of the few people who's managed to get on the good side of Yoshiko, who starts out with a negative opinion of basically everyone. He was also an enemy double agent, and ended up chasing her around the compound with a knife until he stepped on a trap and died

I decided to just roll with it, because even though I accidentally chose a basically-incompetent 13-year-old instead of the 40-something renaissance woman I'd actually meant to use, her beer-chugging ways have endeared me to Yoshiko "Happy" Russell

as this is a solo start she's almost definitely going to die horribly before long, but hey. she does have pet robots

unfortunately none of those robots are doctors, and in my experience the #1 cause of death in solo starts is infected wounds

I used to do art streams, but I've gotten rather shy with my process in the last few years ^^;... Maybe some day I'll do another art stream.

I often think about doing game streams actually, but I don't know how many people would want to watch me play the kinds of games I play. But maybe I'll try it out anyway at some point! If it's something people are interested in.

This game will cause you to construct the most fucked up sentences.

There are several people in the server (myself included, as it turns out) who will just hop into an active channel and start reading without making note of what channel they are in. This has led to many Moments of Horror™️
