I just heard that the good smile company plans on releasing a new popup parade figure of Arsene, which is,, fucking fantastic bc I cannot afford the big one, haha. Which reminds me of that one time I did a little action figure of Arsene out of oven-bake clay and determination. I love him dearly and have tried (and failed, for now) to make a Joker to match.

beat Persona 5 Strikers! gonna ramble a bit. spoilers and all that

this was fun honestly. just kinda fun even if it struggled in some places for me

the new characters were largely not one of those places tho. Zenkichi was a real treat and Sophia was a nice addition to the cast too tho I wish we learned more about her if that makes sense. they kinda handwave why she was in the first jail near the end and I thought that was kinda dumb lmao. really nice additions to the cast overall tho - felt fresh and didn't step on any toes

the story definitely wasn't as strong as Royal's (and presumably vanilla P5 but idk) but I did appreciate that the circumstances of the jails had a lil more grey to them compared to the often black and white palaces of P5R/etc., the second and third jails in particular really worked for me (three guesses on why the writer's section got to me!) and I liked how the jails kinda furthered every character a bit

but it also does sorta retread a good bit of P5's story in places and that extends as far as having an underdeveloped human villain alongside a supposed ally turned wannabe god that's also sort of underdeveloped lmao. the twists were really obvious from the second that they stepped onto screen and I kinda wish the revelations had happened in the Okinawa jail since that one didn't serve much purpose in the end. idk it just felt weird that the crew didn't see the kind of obvious coming lmao

main gameplay was real fun tho! it was kinda hard to adjust at first but through the first jail I got the hang of things and started having more fun with it. think the difficulty options suck ass tho and suffer from the same issue I've seen almost every game with the difficulty slider suffer from where things feel too easy on easy but then too spongey on normal and up. definitely felt rough at times just wailing on an enemy that couldn't fight back but then it felt really nice at others where the party fought as one with constant once mores and ability usage, very much flashy and addictive even if there were times I'd wished this was just some DLC for P5R lol

side stuff was kinda lacking tho. cooking was a neat idea and I love that Ren's something of a chef - gonna use that at some point - but it's just kinda. nothing. the bond stuff was a cool concept but most of the skills felt kinda superfluous too and I wished there was more to do in the overworlds beyond shopping and a few odds and ends. the request system also kinda sucked with quests I found either lame or too easy by the time I got them but the character interactions u could get were nice

ultimately it's a fun time! bit rough on some edges and not on the level of P5R - and I still wonder why they opted to make it a sequel to vanilla instead of just. waiting a bit and making it a sequel to Royal but eh - but still plenty enjoyable and certainly a solid enough addendum to P5

next stop: Tactica!

The yellow is spaced out while still feeling like His color so so so well I love him…AND THE RED!!! Ketchup and mustard looking boy he’s incredible

The kneepads are a reference to his knee injury. I can't be crazy. Guys. guys I can't be.

The only thing I’d want is a little more asymmetry but I think I just like asymmetry

Blacks and grays and dark blues and a smattering of white but honestly. It all kinda melds together I don't like it

So I’m kinda conflicted on this fit. I REALLY like her whole vibe, she’s like if the song She Came From Outer Space from ahit was a fit,  but i don't like how form fitting it feels. I think it should feel a bit more. comfortable.

Very bottom heavy!! Her outfit proportions feel like a splatoon character. Also a very techwear cyberpunk vibe, I love her!!

Necronomicon shouldn't have had tentacles now Maruki steps on her toes, imo Necronomicon shoulda had a like. Tractor beam. So she can pick up innocent cows. Don't ask me how this connects to her design, it just does. Top ten things that should be changed when 5 gets the reload treatment.

MY WIFE!! Her arc is when the thieves begin to get kinda big heads and all cocky, so she’s a more classic gentleman thief to  show how she thematically pulls them back to earth! Also she’s the best party member. She deal the big number. I love her. 

Mainly pinks and purples, with a tasteful amount of black! I love her so so much

The pumpkin pants were INSPIRED. She looks so cute and full of whimsy ALSO THE BIGASS FEATHER!! It makes her feel so PERFECT when put next to Mona they mesh so well.

Tails I miss my wife. I miss my wife tails.

Crow (Robin)

Perfect prince boy Goro Akechi ~✰ he’s their enemy, the detective hunting them down (the Ganymede to Joker’s Arsene, if you will)

The better of his two persona fits, let's be real. Be honest with me. Look me in my eyes. Despite the bar being in hell tho, this outfit is really good!! I love all the A’s in it, it really makes me sad! The way his pants are shaped and sit on him scratches my brain just right. He looks like he has a stick up his ass and genuine morals (which he does!! Robin is just as much his persona as Loki!! In this essay I will–!!)

White to contrast all the black of the thieves, but red to tie him back in with them!! Also some gold accs to keep the visual warmth wowie

Some better shoes could do him well methinks, also further the bird motif let that be his unifying thing since he keeps the codename with the black mask fit

Violet

She NEEDS two fits ok. She’s the Sumi no idea what her job is. She can do some cool flips and teaches joker to do some cool flips. Visually, her design is DEFINITELY copycatting on joker which is so fuckin cool cause like. Yeah. yeah ofc she copies her older sibling/mentor figure. I wonder if she’s ever done that before huh. It SUCKS too tho cause she doesn't match Cendrillon which is sick and twisted. Second fit when she truly awakens as Sumire that matches Cendrillon is the better timeline.

Black with reds and a bit of gold detailing. ALSO SILVER ACCS!! Also lotsa bows! Cause she’s a copycat! We could take this further. 

She has the whole gymnast vibe but I’ll be real the way it’s executed just feels a little………..gross. She’s like 16 guys wtf. Cover her up a smidge more.

The silver chain belt thing for her sword was inspired. Also her roses.

Crow (Loki)

Fuck gamers I like to think metaverse outfits change as the persona user grows up and their spark of rebellion grows and changes but this fit feels like DIRECT evidence to the contrary. I can see perfectly clearly a 15 y/o akechi wearing this and feeling  SOOOO COOL AND EDGY. and just continues to think it’s sooooo cool and edgy as he grows up only to be made fun of by the thieves (But who knows, maybe this outfit is the exception)

I like the belts. But I’m also a chronic belt adder. I like a good smattering of belts.

The cape feels like a fun callback to his Prince Cape so uhm. Points there

The buttons across the front are so fuckign silly to me. Bro is wearing his evil onesie. His nefarious pajamas.

The thing about conflicting headcanons re: Yusuke's financial situation post Madarame (ie is he actually poor, does he make money but spends it all on art because he has poor impulse control, is Kosei a money laundering scheme etc.) is that like Yusuke's financial situation is written to facilitate a running gag so it's not consistent.

The school gives him an allowance, but he's also being charged for utilities despite being on a scholarship and so showers in the cold and works in the dark and worries about the electricity bill.

We know he bought those lobsters that one time but realistically how much of his money is being spent on supplies for class vs non-necessities he feels inspired by? Because canvases are expensive and if there's a certain size expectation/requirement you can't save by getting a smaller canvas. So when someone says "he just spends all his money on art" what are we really talking about?

By Strikers he's very excited to have money from an art contest to spend on his friends but was that true during the course of the base game when he was in his slump? Because I have a hard time believing he was even entering competitions

The details don't really make sense because most of these details come from jokes that are never elaborated on into cohesive worldbuilding.

And even if you want to say the issue is just he's got bad spending habits, that's still a situation that would require intervention by an adult probably because uh, no shit?

Yeah of COURSE Yusuke is completely unprepared to live on his own and is incidentally starving himself, he was raised by a dude who convinced him that the only purpose he served was helping his Sensei. In what way would it have benefitted Madarame to prepare Yusuke in any way to live on his own or know how to balance finances, he actively wanted Yusuke reliant on him, because that's how abuse works.

I'm pretty sure Yusuke has never even conceptualized living on his own, and that's not even adding in the detail of Nakanohara being concerned he'd commit suicide if he stayed with Madarame. NO SHIT HE'D BE BAD AT IT? People don't just emerge from the womb capable of money management

In that situation is the proper response really "oh that Yusuke, he just doesn't understand money, it's not a big deal"?

And like regardless, he IS still starving. Like the extent to which you think it's self inflicted aside, he's a 16 year old who will constantly talk about skipping meals and eating sprouts from the park and that sucks. Someone should maybe like talk to him about the root cause of that!

TL;DR: Yusuke's financial situation doesn't make sense because it's not supposed to, so it kind of doesn't matter to me how people headcanon the nature of it, and I fundamentally think it's incorrect to say one option of "poor vs has bad impulse spending habits" is more correct than the other because arguably they both raise the question of "holy shit why is no one stepping in here" if you think about it all the way through

PS. Also I wrote this whole thing because I saw a tweet that was like "one big misconception i see about yusukes character and how he’s treated is people saying “Why doesn’t Joker/Haru give him money when he’s poor?” and the real fact is that he’s not poor (post madarame). He’s just EXTREMELY irresponsible with his spending and spends it all on art," and I was like "idk if that's a misconception really I think a case can be made for both because it doesn't make sense" and then AFTER I wrote it I remebered that I have repository of every Yusuke scene uploaded into my brain and was like "wait if you call Yusuke poor in PQ2 during the Akihiko/Shinjiro/Yusuke quest he'll agree" and then there's also the scene in Tactica where Marie calls him dirt poor and he doesn't disagree with the poor part, just that she insulted dirt

So like my point still stands but I'd ESPECIALLY not call it a misconception to say he's poor when canon material supports it.

i think my favorite scene from any persona game is ryuji going OFF in strikers defending sophie. struck a real chord with me and i think is so emblematic of the found family that really ties p5 together. probably one of my fave scenes in any game i've played!

i'm gonna replay 4 soon though and p3reload when it comes out!! so lol maybe my answer to this question will change in a month or two!!!

AAAAAAHHHHH!!! I hate not being able to focus!! It's even worse when I'm on a deadline (I should've prepared first...)

Anyway, here's day's 3 and 4. I hope to have the last three done tomorrow (although, they will be rushed...)

Day 3: Dress-up/Unlikely Duo (Decided to combine the two prompts together to add a little fun. I've wanted to do PQ2 for one of these at some point to be unique (and not just do Strikers for all of them), so decided what better one than a pairing up category for Hikari? As for who she'd be paired up with, I went with Akane, since she's also...a school girl?? (I have not played PQ2, just own a copy, I promise I'll play it at some point) Anyway, I thought it'd be cute to do a clothes-swap (thus, the dress-up prompt), and I think it came out rather decently (I could've done better with Akane, but what can you do?)).

Day 4: Battle (FINALLY DID A TACTICA ONE! I thought it'd be cool to do a more dynamic one this time (if you can call this "dynamic"), and I think aside from line art and the background (as per usual), I think it came out decently. I had to pull up a reference photo of a guy holding a shotgun because I couldn't for the life of me draw the angle or hand position, and it came out okay. Could've done better with this overall).
