i want know tori's makeup tutorial so bad, she just looks so pretty
I actually love this ask sm.. anyways 16yr old 2011 tori vs present day Tori (2023)
2010’s: Prob doesn’t use any face makeup unless if it’s for a “special occasion” maybe a little concealer for her eye bags and a little contour but nothing much. Also very matt, like, setting powder/powder foundation everywhere.
She prob also did her brows with a pencil, again not much bc she has already thick full brows imo.
For her eyes just a thick simple line with a short wing, and mascara and only sometimes she puts dark neutral eyeshadows.
Lips weren’t rlly important to her, prob didn’t do anything other than a chapstick or a light pink matt nude lipstick if she even felt like it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2020’s:
Ig she would do a natural dewy makeup look since that’s what most ppl do..
Same here for her face not much, prob only uses colour correctors and a tinted sunscreen with some red/plum cream blush. Sets her face with a loose powder a bit everywhere and put on a bit of bronzer with some highlighter on the tip of her nose and bridge.
Brows she prob just uses a tinted eyebrow gel and that’s it
For her eyes I’d say she does a pretty modern winged eyeliner, maybe a bit of a bat wing bc of her hooded eyes but not huge. Curls her lashes (a lot) and puts bottom and top mascara bla bla bla.
Lips would be a red vampy colour lipgloss or a lip tint :)
Vogue morning routine
Y/N Y/N/L’s guide to effortless natural makeup
Summary: you are asked to do the Vogue Beauty Secrets video and your two boys decide to join the party
Word count: around 2000
Warning: none, just pure floof!
I apologize in advance if there are any spelling and/or grammar mistakes, English is not my first language (+ this is my very first fic)
Tumblr media
HEADLINE Henry Cavill’s new girlfriend, designer Y/N Y/L/N reveals her everyday morning routine in recent Vogue video: Y/N Y/L/N shows off her secrets to the perfect fusion of European and Asian beauty.
You stood in the spacious bathroom of the hotel room, only wearing a big, fluffy, white robe, that was actually Henry’s. But since the man was in the gym, you took the opportunity to lend it and bathe yourself in his musky smell, that calmed your nerves. Last night you started panicking, thinking you would probably look stupid for the entire world to see, luckily Henry and Kal tried to calm you down with cuddles and kisses.
This was the first ‘interview’ you would do, being such a young, successful entrepreneur really caught the attention of the media. When you first started your small online shop, you never would have thought you would end up here. Five years later, with a steady income, the job you always wished for and the man you had a crush on since the first time you laid eyes on him. Being a creative, it really made your heart soar with happiness, seeing all your products, your babies, in new homes where they would make others happy.
You were really proud of yourself. Henry was as well, and he made sure you and everybody around you knew. You were apprehensive at first, being with such a well known actor, who was also much older than you, it made you nervous of what people would say, what the media would say. You didn’t want to tarnish Henry’s image. You knew there were people with a much bigger age gap, but still, people were ruthless. So you both decided to take it slow, being careful with going out in public and social media posts.
You stand in front of the large mirror, which had a camera attached to it and open up your makeup bag. Right before you went into the bathroom, you made yourself a nice cup of tea, trying to stay calm. “Hi! I’m Y/N and today I am going to show you my everyday makeup routine,” you say with a smile, “I am not a dermatologist so please don’t take what I say too seriously.”
You grab a small white washcloth and hold it up, so it was in the frame, “First, I am going to wash my face and put on a few drops of serum,” You dampen the cloth and wipe it over your face and neck. You put a few drops in the palm of your hand and pat them into your skin. “Now I going to use my jade roller to massage the serum into my skin. It’s quite funny seeing so many people use these nowadays. In ancient China they were mostly used by the elite to keep there skin ageless. They would call jade the Stone of Heaven. It’s really helpful for the people who wake up with a puffy face like me,” you chuckle.
Somethimes you’d wake up with puffy cheeks, which led to Henry calling you his chubby bunny in the morning.
“Just a quick tip, and this is for everybody, make sure you always use SPF. I personally use SPF 30 and this one is shine control, since I tend to get an oily skin, but you can also use a regular one or a foundation with SPF in it. Believe me when I say your skin will be thankful.”
You grab the small tube of sun cream and show the amount you’ll use. You even convinced Henry to wear SPF everyday. At first he said he didn’t think it would make such a big difference, but when he realised you were going to be the one to put it on him, he was convinced about its benefits and adamant to wear it everyday. After working the thick cream into your skin, you put on some lipbalm and rummage through the pouch in front of you. When you find the product you’re looking for, you hold it up. “Now, I am going to put on a bit of concealer, this one is from Maybelline. After this, I will use a lighter shade under my eyes and on my acne scars that I have here,” you point and circle around the small cluster of scars on the sides of your cheeks.
Before blending out the concealer, you smile at the lens and put in two bright yellow hairclips, to keep your dark locks from falling into your face. “I probably should have done this at the start,” you laugh. The nerves creeping up a little. It wasn’t that you where a shy person, but knowing thousands of people will watch this, did something to you. You were always a very easygoing person, who could talk with pretty much everybody. But knowing people were going to watch you do something so intimate in a way, and would probably comment on it, scared you a little. While you would be 100% yourself, doing something as mundane as getting ready. If they didn’t like you now, then they probably won’t like you later. And that was what made you so afraid.
The bathrobe falls a bit down your shoulder, but you ignore it, since your hair fell down your shoulders in big waves. “Okay, brows. I used to block them in really dark when I was younger, but now I try to keep a light hand. I’ll use this Got 2B Glued as a brow gel afterwards. The tails of my eyebrows tend to move if I don’t use a strong enough gel. If you’re Asian you will understand the struggle.”
You quickly finish your brows, put some bronzer on your face and eyelids and take out your liquid eyeliner. “Am I the only one that acts like I’m a beauty guru whenever I do my makeup? Like, I’m just acting as if I’m used to this, right now, but to be honest, I was really nervous to do this video for Vogue,” you admit, “they will probably regret asking me,” you chuckle. You finish your eyemakeup with curling your long lashes, thanks to your mother’s genes, and add a coat of mascara.
You take in a deep breath, excited to show everyone the product you had been waiting for. “The next thing I am really proud to show you guys, because I designed the packaging. This is the new limited edition blush and highlighter palette from Dior, which they created for Lunar New Year!” You beam with pride, holding up the elegant looking palette. It had a darker toned glossy finish and the borders were the traditional Chinese looking frames, which were 3D and were surrounded by a wild variety of peonies. In the middle of the lid was your Chinese calligraphy in big golden brush stokes that said ‘year of the Ox’, the clasp was designed so it resembled an antique Chinese coin and on the side hung a jade charm.
“You can pre-order this palette now, I think they will put a link-thingy in de description. I wish you all a happy and blessed Lunar New Year, 祝农历年新年快乐牛年大吉!”
Just as you’re about to add some blush to your cheeks, the bathroom door creaks open and a curly-headed, sweaty Henry pops his head in. Fresh from the gym, and were you thankful for his new intense workout, because he was truely a sight to behold. A cheeky smile graces his handsome face when he spots you in front of the mirror, only wearing his robe, which made his grin widen.
“what are you doing in here? Are you hiding from me? Playing hide and seek is it?” he teases and rakes his large hand through the tousled curls, but just as he’s done speaking, he sees the camera behind you, and blushes. “Oh, I didn’t know you were filming, I’m sorry darling,” he smiles and gives a small wave in the direction of the camera. You led out a giggle, cheeks turning red already, if he’d keep this up, you wouldn’t need to add blush. You couldn’t focus anymore, he looked so attractive, only wearing his black gym shorts and a tight dark blue tank top. Damn that camera, otherwise you would have jumped him. Henry, thought the exact same thing. Seeing you, only wearing his robe and your hair still a bit wild from this morning’s cardio, made him hold back a moan. Those two cute, yellow clips in your hair could have fooled him, because you were anything but innocent.
Before he’s about to close the door again, he blows you a kiss. But his actions are stopped when a big bear makes his appearance. Bolting past his dad’s legs, Kal comes into the bathroom. Henry tries to catch him but misses. The black and white akita excitedly sniffs his head around the sink, trying to see what you were up to with all the stuff lying on the marble counter.
“Kal!” Henry whisper-yelled, trying to stay hidden behind the door. But you could still see his massive body crouched down behind the wood. It was rather funny, seeing the large man so panicked about getting his dog to listen. It kind of reminded you of that one video from BBC were a professor was being interviewed and his baby and nanny showed up in the background. While Henry tried to get Kal’s attention, the dog just sat next to your legs, and smiled when you pet him behind his ear. He was your good boy.
You both knew there was no other option but to keep Kal here, once he saw you do your makeup, he wanted to watch and get his ‘makeup’ done as well.
Henry also saw the look in Kal’s eyes and let out a sigh. Might as well stay with his two loves. He stood up from his position and walked to you, wrapping his sweaty but oh so save body around your figure, and placed a prolonged kiss on the exposed skin just by your shoulder. So far for taking it slow… He pressed himself thighter against your back, hiding his face in the crook of your neck and intertwined your hands, slowly rocking you two back en forth. “You look beautiful, my love,” he whispered, so only you could hear it, at least you hoped the camera wouldn’t pick that up. You let out a little giggle, like the inner schoolgirl you were whenever he was around you.
“Kal loves when Y/N does his makeup as well, don’t you boy,” Henry explains with a smile and looks down at the bear by your bare feet. Kal gives a small ruff and sweeps his tail eagerly. “Did you show them what you made,” he asked you with a wide smile, and looked straight in to the camera, “she worked really hard on that design, so I hope you all like it,” he declared proudly.
You ended up doing your makeup routine with your two boys in the background. Henry left for a few minutes to shower in the second bathroom your hotelroom had, and came back clad in a pair of light jogging trousers and a sweater. Even though you were inside, it was still a bit too chilly to walk around in short sleeves, being mid-winter and all. He just sat on the small wooden bench by the door, still in frame for everybody to enjoy and behold. His hair now damp. He was reading in a book and patiently waiting for you to get ready, occasionally looking up and laughing when you would wet your hands or Kal’s special makeup brush in the sink and pretend to do his makeup. The dog would bark excitedly and give you kisses. “Wow Kal, you look so pretty,” Henry told the big floof with the chuckle.
“Okay, this was my -somewhat- everyday makeup routine! Thank you guys for watching this chaotic mess, hope you laughed a bit, bye-bye, 再见!” How do those vlogger end their videos? Smash like and subscribe?
Behind you Henry looked up from the pages of his fantasy book and arched his brow, “Hey! No shout-out for your special guests? See you all next time!”
WOOHOO!! This is my very first fanfic, I really hope you enjoyed it. Liking, reposting and commenting would mean a lot to me! If you do repost this, please do not edit or copy my work. I worked really hard on this.
Much love, Nahmi xxx
Hi! Sorry for the question but do you have any good makeup recs? Everyday and special occasion. Thank you!
i do! Here are some things I love recently:
Complexion-
Maybelline 4 in 1 perfector- this is a drugstore dupe of auric glowlust, Charlotte Tillbury Hollywood flawless filter etc. I use it as a sheer glowy base layer and dab extra on my nose and cheekbones to highlight.
Laneige glowy makeup serum- the only primer I've ever loved. Makes my skin juicy but also helps my base makeup stay longer.
Elf flawless brightening concealer- a very sheer satiny concealer in a clicky pen which I love bc I hate cakey concealers. Perfect for undereyes or to cover light texture or redness. Not a high coverage concealer, it's like drugstore touché eclat.
Erborian Skin Hero- this is kind of like a primer but it's meant to be worn alone on no makeup days. I love to put this on after a sheet mask and just add a lip color and go. It brightens a little and smooths pores.
Cheeks-
Glossier solar paint- the only bronzer I've ever enjoyed using. I have the fairest shade and it looks so natural, I love how luminous it is without being a heavier cream.
Patrick Ta doubletake blush duo- I love this bc it comes with a cream and a powder, they are not the same exact shade but are meant to work together effortlessly. I have the shade "do we know her" it's a soft peach powder with sheer coral cream. This is perfect for a longwearing juicy cheek as the powder provides more longevity.
Sunnies Face face gloss- a glossy highlighter in a doefoot wand, this is a very easy to use glossy highlight that I like to put all over my eyelids as well as on my cheeks/nose. I have the shade Barbarella, an opalescent lavender shade (very sheer).
Eyes:
Maybelline sky high mascara- this is my favorite drugstore mascara currently, I like a light elongated fluffy lash and this does this well without flaking or wearing off.
Jones road pencil eyeliner- my favorite black eyeliner, it's not the best for graphic lines but ideal for smudging. It has the best texture and is so easy to use.
Jones road just a sec eyeshadow in "icy pink"- a very sophisticated silvery pink glitter paste. Demure but very sparkly.
Kosas brow pop pencil + airbrow- super fine pencil in a million shades (I have taupe) I find it very easy to use. The airbrow pomade is the best eyebrow gel I've tried, I love the natural fluffiness and light shine it gives.
Lips:
Laneige lip glowy balm- I have the shade pear which is clear- it's soo juicy and shiny and satisfying to apply. I think I've almost finished mine. Daily I switch between the lip glowy balm and the laneige lip sleeping mask in gummy bear for lips that are always shellacked with moisture. Next time I'll buy the peach or berry shade.
Sunnies Face fluffmatte lipstick- the best matte lipstick ever imo. Thin light silicone-y smooth and comes in a million shades of nude, pink, rust and one or two reds. I have Milkshake (nude pink) girl crush (terracotta rose) and hot sauce (bright warm red). I buy sunnies face from PNY beauty as they're a Filipino brand.
Essence soft contour lip liner- this is my favorite lip liner! I think it's discontinued on their website but can still be purchased on drugstore websites. I love the shade "under my skin" for overlining. Should be like $1.50.
Hope this helps and wasn't too long! I wear all these things for every day and special occasions :-)
Tumblr media
I looked at my watch and began to panic as I realized I only had an hour left to get ready. My nerves were jangling like crazy but I managed to ignore them by focusing only on my to do list, not thinking about the big picture and the absolutely crazy chance I was taking.
My mind wandered and as I strained in my cage, I thought about how I’d noticed him more and more at the office and...NO, I wasn’t going to think about that now look at the list Becca!
I’d already crossed off a number of steps. I’d cleaned, hoovered, dusted and tidied my flat. I’d prepared refreshments, made sure my clothes were clean and ready to wear.
The next step was a shower, I turned the water on and got it to the right temperature. I’d been waxed at the salon a few days ago but after I’d scrubbed my body I picked up my razor and ran it over a few spots to make sure I was as smooth as possible. When I was done, I opened the pricey shower gel I’d bought a few months ago, squeezed some into my hands and then slowly rubbed it over my body.
It smelt amazing, at one point I would have laughed at buying something that promoted itself as “seductive” but now I felt a deep thrill surge through my body and found myself hoping it would work. I wanted it so badly, Just the idea had teased and tormented me for months and I had gone from thinking it was purely a fantasy to wondering “but what if…” until I finally decided that I had to at least try and then had come up with a plan to make it happen.
I turned off the shower and began shivering, it wasn’t particularly cold but I had 50 minutes left and it was starting to become oh so real. Unless he called to cancel it would happen and, no matter the outcome, things would be different afterwards. This wasn’t a hook up or a night at a gloryhole, this was someone who knew me...and knew me as a him.
My mind strayed again, it had all gone beyond purely sexual, although I hoped there would be plenty of hard, kinky, naughty fun, and it had reached the point where just the thought of him putting his arms around me made me drip. I would imagine dating and intimate moments, holidays and happiness. I’d even pictured a wedding...I knew it was fantasy and I wasn’t expecting miracles but please, please let it happen, even just a little.
45 minutes! Stop daydreaming Becca! I toweled myself dry and then applied lotion to my entire body. Next I went to my bedroom to get my boobs, applied some glue to my chest and pressed one and then the other onto my chest until they stuck. I’d disposed of the remover a few days ago to decrease the chance that I would panic and try and undo things, they weren’t going to come off for at least 8 hours and I’d used my J cup pair. They made me feel incredibly feminine and I wanted something that I couldn’t hide.
I put on a kimono and sat down in front of mirror to put on my face. I’d done a few practice runs to make sure I was comfortable with the look and doing it in the time I had so I didn’t feel like I had to rush. I’d decided on a trashy slutty look. I didn’t know if it was what he liked but it played to my strengths and put me in the perfect frame of mind. Feeling trashy and slutty was exactly the energy I needed.
My nails were already painted and my eyebrows had been plucked and shaped. I moisturized my face and then applied concealer. I highlighted and contoured so my cheekbones stood out and then applied a pretty heavy amount of blush. Heavy blue eye-shadow followed by eyeliner, then false eyelashes and mascara. I finished with my lips, first applying a bold red lipstick (whore red as I liked to think of it) that matched my nails and I overdrew them to make them bigger and finally, I used a sealant so the lipstick wouldn’t rub off and then a setting spray.
I blended the area around my boobs so they didn’t stand out and then got dressed. I’d debated long and hard on this but in the end had decided to keep it simple. Stockings and suspenders then a pair of panties on top. A pretty short black skirt and 6 inch red stilettos finished off my bottom half. I put on a bra and then a low cut leopard print top. I wanted to scream “easy” and “slut” and “available” and have a lot of cleavage on display. It was no time for subtlety or half measures.
Then jewelry and perfume, I used my most flowery and feminine scent and finally, I put on a blond wig that I’d teased and styled into a large beehive and my large hoop earrings (getting my ears pierced had been a godsend) and I was ready.
Luckily I’d timed things almost perfectly and there was only 5 minutes left, my nerves were steadily growing and my mind started to race and then it felt like the bottom fell out of my tummy as I heard a knock at the door, he was early!
I stood up (it took a couple of attempts to mange it, my heart was pounding) and walked to the door I started to reach for the handle but my hand stopped and it wouldn’t any further. There was another knock and I stood there completely frozen. I thought about what had led to this point, reminded myself that I wanted this so badly, took a deep breath and let it out and then grasped the door handle and pulled it open.
It was him, he stared at me with his mouth slightly open, looked a little shocked, and I could see his mind processing the not exactly subtle messages I was sending. He opened and closed his mouth a couple of times and then said, “is he in? He invited me over to watch the game, you must be his girlfriend?”
OMG, he hadn’t recognized me! Less then 60 seconds in and my plan was out of the window. I’d assumed he would know it was me and we’d have a conversation about it but…
“Come in,” I squeaked, I’d worked a lot on my voice and luckily been dolled up had me using it without having to think. I turned and led him into the living room and gestured to the sofa. He took a seat, “I didn’t know he had a partner, I don’t think anyone did...he doesn’t talk too much about himself but I can’t imagine why he’d keep quiet about you!”
I was stunned, he was flirting with me and I my panties were suddenly sodden. I spluttered in shock and then said, “drink?”. He said he’d love a beer and I put some snacks down to his side and then bent over in front of him so he could see down my top as I passed him a can. When I stood up, I could see he was flushed and I swear there was something happening in his pants.
I went back to the kitchen (my flat has the living room and kitchen as one large room) as he watched the game. After a few minutes he asked for another beer and I decided this was it, I’d come this far and I was going for it, all of it. I picked up another can and walked over to him, I set it down in front of him and then turned and sat right next to him, our bodies were touching and I could smell him.
He didn’t move away and after a few seconds I saw the pleasingly large lump in his trousers get bigger and bigger. I knew there was one more step, so I took another deep breath, remembered my fantasies and moved my hand over onto his crotch. He jumped a little but otherwise didn’t move. I used one of my long, red nails to slowly trace around the outline of his cock and as it grew and grew I turned my face to his, tilted my head to the side, opened my mouth slightly and closed my eyes. I’d done everything and now it was up to him.
...it seemed like forever but I felt his lips press onto mine and then his tongue slipped into my mouth, it was happening! My panties really needed changing now!
I think I stopped breathing at some point because when he pulled away I felt so light headed I almost passed out. I was operating on instinct and as he looked at me, my hands were fumbling at his fly. I managed to unzip it and his cock just sprang out and it was everything I’d dreamt of. Before you could say “desperate whore” I was on my knees in front of him and hungrily took him into my mouth, all of him. I was so aroused it felt like I was on fire. Any thoughts about pacing or technique were gone, I’d taken his entire length straight away and deep throated him like my life depended on it. I was in heaven and time seemed to lose all meaning. Even so, all too soon he grasped the back of my head and held me against him as he tipped his head back, moaned and shot a huge load straight into my stomach. When he’d stopped I pulled myself off him a little so I could use my tongue to clean the head of his cock.
When I was finished, he put himself away and I sat back up and snuggled next to him as he went back to watching the game. I was still insanely aroused but felt so satisfied, my clit was dripping constantly and I felt more alive then I ever had.
At half time, his phone rang and he stood up and said he had to go. I stood too and showed him to the door. At the threshold he turned around and moved in to kiss me, when our lips met my knees almost buckled and as he pulled away he put his mouth next to my ear and whispered, “I know who you are” and then winked at me before driving off.
I closed the door and collapsed into a heap.
Do you consider yourself not feminine anymore? If i recall correctly you used to wear makeup, feminine clothes and presented androgynous?
I've been meaning to make a post about this, but just didn't get around to it. So prepare yourself for a long answer, because there's a lot behind my change of style. During this past year or so, I went back and forth between feminine/androgynous and masculine presentation a lot. This was partly to figure myself out, and partly just going with the flow. And what I discovered from that was that despite I really love the feminine look aesthetically... it makes me uncomfortable to actually wear it. Like I get super tense and on hypervigilance.
Basically, I don't think I ever enjoyed being feminine as much as I thought. I think I've used it to suppress my masculinity over shame for it. Also, being male-passing makes being feminine quite a social challenge and I no longer feel it's worth it to catch so much attention for self-expression, when it's so much more beneficial to just let people get to know me by talking to me instead. Additionally to that: I hate being sexualised and infantalised for looking/acting feminine. That is a side effect which I absolutely abhor, and it also kinda triggers me.
Aside from style, I looked into my feminine qualities as a person, as you're right: I used to always consider myself feminine and androgynous. However, what I later on discovered was that most of my "feminine qualities" or traits, are not healthy. For example: I've always leaned submissive and passive in any social interactions. Not just sexually, but like just talking to people. I'd never take the lead, never initiate contact, and I still struggle to be assertive. This isn't "just my personality" as I used to think, but actually me being afraid of being berated for how I am. I always hated being called feminine by others, especially by people who know/knew me, and I think this is why.
Another example is my body language/mannerisms. In that I've always kept my legs closed and kept my arms close to my body. Basically I curl up into a little ball a lot, and yes I always have, ever since early childhood. This, I thought was also something innate about me as a person, but later on discovered is actually a defense mechanism, an attempt to protect my body from harm (from other people) as well as from the elements like coldness and rain/snow.
Knowing that, my idea of myself as feminine started to come apart. I had learned to be feminine. From female socialisation and from my trauma, and I think probably from my autism (sensory stuff) as well. Since then I've started to dare spreading myself out a bit more, and working on being more assertive (not talking over people or being aggressive or anything like that though, just standing up for myself and being more firm with what's important to me, boundaries and values, while still remaining empathetic and kind.) And I've noticed it's making me feel a lot better about myself! Much more relaxed, confident and trusting myself better.
And then it strikes me: why are these, much more healthy traits, considered masculine?
When it comes to more external stuff like clothes and makeup: I stopped wearing makeup, some 6 months or so ago (give or take, my memory is bad.) And it made me realise that I'm actually addicted to makeup. Like... I always knew I've had issues with being too dependent on makeup in the past, but never really saw myself as addicted to it. I've quit makeup before, some 10 or so years ago, but then went back to it, and it's just always a slipperly slope, no matter how careful I am about it.
What made it click for me was when I (last year, btw) started getting some outbreaks on my skin which annoyed me. So I decided "I'm just gonna put a little bit of concealer on it to cover up the worst." So I did that, but then thought "actually my cheeks look really red, so I'll just cover that up too" but I didn't stop there. I ended up adding so much concealer that half my face was covered in it. Then added foundation and powder. Then realised I need to bring back some colour in my now monotone face, so did contouring, added highlighter, blush and bronzer. Then did my eyebrows, added eyeshadow, mascara, eyeliner and... I think you get the point.
This kept happening several times. Also when I wanted to just wear lipstick, I ended up also adding concealer, doing my eyebrows, dyeing my eyebrows, adding contour, etc.
I can't seem to JUST add a little bit of concealer on the "worst" spots without ending up covering and re-painting my whole face. And then after having done that... I feel like shit. Like I just wanna wipe it off because that's not my face, but I've just spent an hour on that makeup, so it would be a total waste to just wipe it off again. So I keep it on, despite having regretted it all. So eventually, when I got that first thought: "I'm just gonna put a little bit of concealer on it to cover up the worst" I stop myself and don't do it. Instead tell myself that my face is fine and no one's gonna care that I have two red pimples on my cheek. Maybe just put some zinc paste or aloe vera gel on it if it's irritated/sore, but no makeup.
As for just wearing wine red lipstick and nothing else on my face, which obviously doesn't cover anything up: the lipstick dries out my lips really a lot, and makes it difficult to eat and drink with. It stains on clothes and I have to be careful when scratching my beard/mustache, etc. That is not like a huge sacrifice, but it does make me tense. Also, people stare at me a lot when I do that, haha. "Why is that man wearing lipstick?" Oh I dunno Harry, you could ask. If people only knew my history. But I'm not saying I'd never do it again. I mostly just need a break from makeup altogether before I start considering only wearing lipstick in my favourite colour again, because doing that is obviously very different from wearing a full face of makeup. But I need to uhh... recover from my addiction first. I need to love my bare face first, I need to be able to not care what I look like.
Then as for clothing: Generally it's very similar. I think I subconsciously connect feminine clothing to "looking pretty" and masculine clothing to "looking plain/boring/mediocre" without consciously thinking that. But for this past year, that subconscious thinking changed, when I got really into men's classic clothing by watching youtube channels of very fashion-obsessed men. Like they talk about suits a lot, and details like neckties, pocket squares, matching socks, brocade shoes, how to get the best fit, what colours go with what, and so on.
I used to never care about suits, but now I'm kinda impressed by them, haha. Like they're simple, yet so complex. They're comfortable, yet so stylish, and they're timeless. I used to be kinda goth and think "normal" clothes were boring. But this changed me. I bought a cheap navy suit, and started craving wearing brown leathers instead of black. I discovered a whole, amazing world of men's fashion, and I fell in love with it.
What used to be "boring" has now become a rich world of amazing fabrics, cuts and styles. Twill, tweed, cuffs, collars, denim, flannel, leather, linen, suede, corduroy, oh my! And then I started loving the even much more simple look of dark blue cuffed jeans, flannel shirt, zippered hoodie, fleece jacket, brown leather belt, wrist watch with brown leather strap, and brown leather boots. It's super plain and mediocre, but the comfort and the shades of brown and blue really speaks to me. I love the look so much I ended up wearing it every day for over a month now, just changing flannels to always wear a clean one, and washing it all bi-weekly.
What is that, is it me?! Lol. Well, I love it. I think it's an important journey of self-discovery. Of finding comfort with myself and wearing clothes that move with my body, instead of forcing my body to move with my clothes. Of finding comfort with who I actually am as a person, instead of trying so hard to paint myself up as the inner mental image I have of my ideal self. I still hold onto that picture, but I also rather enjoy to focus on being clean and smelling good, being minimally groomed and comfortable - instead of looking fancy.
But also, dressing masculine helps with my dysphoria too. Being off testosterone, and wearing a lightly padded sports bra on occasion spikes my dysphoria (although it soothes something else within me) and dressing hyper-masculine helps calming that down.
Also, shaving my head back in November, and letting go of my long locks, because my hair has thinned out really a lot... made something else click in me as well: letting go of external beauty, in favour for letting the beauty within truly shine.
So what if I look like a burly hipster dude? Everyone gets unfairly judged for how we look. It's not even always about gender. But I've started to ask myself what's the point of trying super hard to "show my personality" in my style, when people are more likely to actually listen to what I tell them about myself when I'm dressed plain, instead of being too busy placing false assumptions on me?
I think I'm learning something very important about myself, and finding strength within myself, to just be me. And I never gave my masculinity the credit it deserved, because I believed my forced, unhealthy behaviours and misconceptions of masculinity as "boring" meant I was just feminine as a person. That's what the world taught me to think. But of course, I'm not denying that yes, I absolutely used to express myself very feminine, and I'm not gonna claim that I've always been hyper-masculine.
This is the first time in my life I'm truly enjoying masculinity and feeling liberated, strengthened and invigorated by it. The first time I do it to prove myself to only myself, that I don't need nor want to be feminine, and that's okay. That female masculinity is not being boring or sloppy. The first time that it's not to impress others as "man enough" as the insecure trans man I once was. And that matters a lot to me, even if it doesn't last into my 40's.
I might at some point again occasionally wear some lipstick, a long flowy skirt, or put flowers in my beard. But I need to fully indulge in my masculinity for now, and let it set me free from the chackles of forced feminisation that came with female socialisation, which I grew up with, like most women did. I am just so DONE with having those fucked female beauty standards shoved down my throat, which no, not even transitioning let me escape from. Because transitioning can't let me escape my own (brainwashed) mind. That's something I have to work on to break down piece by piece, and to rebuild myself, by hand.
I'm constantly evolving and learning more stuff about myself and the world, and I'm a sponge for such knowledge. I've never been afraid to take on change, especially drastic changes, and to challenge my own harmful behaviours (like my makeup addiction) as soon as I realise the harm is no longer worth the joy. I can't keep up with me either, but looking back on my life and seeing how much I've grown, is always quite exciting, haha.
However, I'm still wearing cutesy cotton panties with lace edges and a little bow at the upper front. I do that because it's femininity that's ONLY for me. It's actually comfortable, makes me smile whenever I go to the bathroom, and no one else can see it. So it cannot be sexualised or infantalised by other people, despite being such an intimate pieces of clothing, because only I get to see it. (Although of course an intimate partner and very close friends would see it, but that's gonna be people I trust a lot to begin with.)
Natural Makeup Routine
Tumblr media
I think that soft glam/ Natural make-up is extremely sexy. Something about subtle makeup makes a women seem so alluring. I dont know of its the subtle contour or The wispy fluttery lashes or maybe even the lightly smoked eyeliner but I absolutely adore subtle makeup. I especially love to see other women wear Natural makeup , So Im going to share some of my secrets on how I achieve the Natural makeup!
No foundation
I don’t actually ever wear foundation but I just wanted to let you guys know that its best to skip the foundation. I moisturize , put on sunscreen and then put on primer even though im not going to be wearing any foundation. Primer helps to smooth and even out your complexion and also it minimizes pores. If your not comfortable with going completely bare face then you can opt for a thin layer of CC cream or BB cream.
The primer I like to use is Maybeline Instant Pore Eraser Primer. It usually costs (6.99 USD) I also really like NYX Honey Dew Me Up Primer (10.00 USD)
Concealer
I love concealer! Its the one makeup product I cannot live without. It makes me look alive instantly its pure magic✨. I like to keep two concealers one that is 1 shade lighter and another that is 2 shades lighter. For my Natural makeup I take my concealer that is one shade lighter and I put that concealer all over my eyelids and underneath my eye. I like to blend with a beauty blender but you could also use your fingers. Don’t forget to set with a translucent powder. Brown girls and black girls make sure to get a translucent powder that has a more yellow undertone.
Some of my favorite concealers to use is the Maybelline fit me concealer in 07. Costs about (6.00 USD) ( 1 shade lighter). ELF Cosmetics HD lifting concealer in light. It costs (4.00 USD) (2 shades lighter). Both concealers have a very light creamy formula they blend very well and they stay on all day.
Mascara
Light , fluffy , fluttery and wispy lashes Complement natural make up the best! when I’m Doing a more natural look I like to opt for a brown mascara I think that brown mascara gives you such a soft natural look thats perfect for this subtle makeup look. It’s important to choose a mascara that focuses more on lengthening and defining then volumizing and thickening. I also recommend getting a eyelash primer because this will help aid in the wispy eyelash look.
CoverGirl Lash Blast Amplify Eyelash Primer costs (6.00 USD.) I love this primer it works perfectly. L’Oreal telescopic lengthening mascara in dark brown or black is my go to for this look. I only need about 2-3 coats.( Costs 7.00 USD) L’Oreal voluminous feline mascara is also a good option for this work this works perfectly by giving subtle lift to your lashes and lots of length in just 2 coats. ( Costs 8.00 USD)
Eyeliner
I personally don’t think that eyeliner is necessary for this look, but if you enjoy putting on eyeliner I would suggest using a brown eyeshadow as eyeliner. I think that brown liner looks good on every eye color and it gives that really subtle look that we are trying to achieve. You could also use a nude eyeliner in your water line. This makes the eyes appear bigger and more doll like!
Wet n Wild ColorIcon Kohl Eyeliner – Calling Your Buff (4.00 USD) is a perfect subtle nude and a staple in my makeup bag. It has a Smooth formula and is waterproof. Elf bite size shadows in Truffles has the perfect shade of brown eyeshadows that are perfect for a winged liner effect. (Costs 3.00 USD)
Brows
I dont do much to my brows because I am lucky enough to have “Nice” eyebrows. I would Suggest brushing your eyebrows and then putting some aloe vera gel on them. I think it’s important to remember that Length and fullness is more important then thick or thinness! If you want to fill in your eyebrows Just make sure to make them look full and make them look long meaning they should line up with the outer corner of your eye.
Blush And Highlight.
Blush just adds a little more life to our face. If you are a black girl or a brown girl I would suggest using either red or orange blush it looks so stunning on our skin! Pinks and Peach looks great on lighter and fairer skin tones. Put a little blush on the apples of your cheeks and over the bridge of your nose. For highlight I only put highlighter on my cheekbones and down the bridge of my nose to give me a perfect subtle glow 💫 Since we are going for a soft look I suggest using A cream or liquid blush and a cream or liquid highlighter. Black and brown girls gold highlighter looks so stunning on us!
Lips
Now for lips I think it’s best to keep it simple. I usually go with a super shiny clear gloss because I just think it’s perfect! it’s not too much and it really ties the look together. Sometimes I’ll go for a more champagne colored gloss because I think that is always a suitable choice. You could always opt for a bold lip! Like A bright red or a fuchsia color , sometimes bold colors make our features stand out even more! I just personally prefer to go with gloss because it’s shiny, simple and makes my lips look really plump.
E.L.F Lip lacquer in Mauve , clear , Love Bite , Mauve Glitz all cost 3.00 USD and are perfect for a simple look. Also E.l.F pink champagne is a perfect option.
Set
Always set your make up! don’t ever leave your house without setting your make up! it is one of the most important step in make up application. I like to use E.L.F Cosmetics set and mist setting spray. It cost (5.00 USD) and works like a charm!
I hope you guys enjoyed this post and I hope I helped with giving you guys some guidance to achieving natural make up or natural glam. I just want to remind everyone that everyone has a different face and when you’re doing your make up you should do make up that fits and defines your face! your features! your bone structure and your eyes! It’s all about you! And don’t be afraid to experiment and try different things or mix different colors because you never know what the outcome Will be. Until next time and stay beautiful💖💖💖
hello! congrats on 1k!! can i request a one shot with neil trying out stilettos, fishnets and make up + andrew's reaction? thanks! xx
hello!!! i was super excited for this request, thank you for sending it! it’s in bullet points if that’s alright though!
It’s Neil’s second year at Palmetto and Halloween is coming up
Neil has already decided that he does NOT want to dress up in a costume, no matter how much Nicky pleads with him
“You can’t show up to Eden’s without a costume!” Nicky exclaims for the fifth time.
“There’s no rules that say I have to wear a costume,” Neil says, also for the fifth time.
Neil is debating staying at Palmetto while everyone else goes to Columbia anyway. He only decides to go with because the whole team is going (with the exception of a couple Freshmen, who have their own plans) and Neil wants every chance he can to have all of his Foxes together before Dan, Allison, and Renee graduate.
But still, he’s not going to dress in any of the stupid costumes Nicky keeps shoving in his arms. (An astronaut? Really? Neil looks like he’s wearing a fishbowl on his head).
“I just don’t get the point of dressing up in weird costumes when I can just wear what I usually wear. One night of the year shouldn’t be any different,” Neil says while he’s hanging out with Dan and Allison in their room. He’s slouched against their couch, taking up two cushions, his feet thrown over one of the arms.
“You don’t have to wear a costume, Neil.” Dan points out.
“That’s what I’m saying!” Neil throws his hands in the air, nearly knocking over the opened bottle of nail polish Allison is balancing on her knee. “I don’t have to dress up.”
“That’s not what she’s saying.” Allison peers down at Neil with an immaculate eyebrow raised. When he stares at her blankly, she rolls her eyes with a faux-exasperated sigh. “Halloween is the time to try new things, too. You don’t have to dress as a zombie but you can dress up, if you want. If you decide you don’t like it afterwards, you don’t have to wear it ever again.”
Neil scrunches up his face. “What would I wear? My Eden’s clothes are fine.”
“That’s up for you to decide. Just think about it. And if you need any help, you know where to find me.”
Neil thinks about it, but he’s still unsure.
So he decides to enlist for Allison’s help.
When he arrives at the girls’ dorm, Allison and Nicky are waiting for him.
“Neil why didn’t you say you didn’t want to wear a costume!” Nicky says. If it weren’t for the joking glint in his eye Neil might have throttled him. He’s still thinking about it.
The three of them spend the better part of the night planning. Allison and  Nicky propose different styles of clothes, compare fabrics, and debate colors while Neil chooses which ones he likes best. After a couple hours, Allison and Nicky have a pretty good idea what Neil might like to try. They order him a couple clothes and send him on his way.
Neil doesn’t quite know how to feel about it. The clothes they ended up picking were a lot different than he’s used to. He’s not quite ready for crop-tops, no matter how Allison pleaded and begged, but Neil thinks he’ll be a bit more comfortable in the clothes he picked out. It’s not jeans and a comfortable hoodie, but it might work. And if Neil is being honest with himself, there is a spark of interest, of curiosity in his chest. It is only one night, and Neil doesn’t have to commit, but it is something different, something new.
Halloween rolls around and Neil finds himself being pulled into the girls’ dorm once again.
Dan and Matt were already dressed. They sat together on the couch; Frankenstein and his bride. Matt’s hair is still heavily gelled so that it sticks straight up. He holds strands of Dan’s hair for her while she vigorously teases it up with a comb. When they catch sight of Neil, Matt gives a happy wave and Dan calls out a muffled greeting.
Allison has set out an array of makeup on the coffee table and is working on applying it to her face, a tall witch’s hat perched on her head. She is about halfway through with the purple glitter on her eyelids when she turns around and motions for Neil to grab the bag of clothes next to her.
Inside, Neil finds the clothes Allison ordered for him online.
The shirt is made out of an expensive material; black mesh with a dark red undershirt that feels like silk. It’s soft in Neil’s hands, and Neil sets it down carefully on the bathroom sink. The next thing he grabs is the pair of black shorts. Neil was a little wary about them. They were shorter than his running shorts, and what little fabric would cover Neil’s legs was ripped “artfully” as Nicky put it. Still, Neil didn’t want to just wear the fishnets.
The fishnets.
The last thing Allison bought. The thing Neil is most wary about.
Neil reaches into the bag and drew out the red fishnet stockings. They seem smaller than they are supposed to be, but the fabric is stretchy and doesn’t seem too hard to get on.
Neil gets dressed quickly and twists around, studying the clothes on his body and deciding how he feels about them.
They fit nicely. The shorts are tight and high-waisted, hugging his hips and thighs, but not uncomfortably so. The shirt is a bit looser, and while the material is pretty sheer, Neil can’t see any of his scars peaking through. He smooths his hands down his sides. The fabric is comfortable and easy to move around in.
Allison is right. The fishnets do make his legs look good. He thought perhaps he likes them.
When Neil left the bathroom, Matt lets out a low whistle. Dan looks him up and down and grins while Allison considers him, a manicured finger tapping her lip. Renee had appeared in the time it took for Neil to get dressed, and she gave him a smile and a small thumbs up.
“Am I done?” Neil asks.
“Tuck in your shirt and come here,” Allison commands and turns back to her display of makeup.
Neil does as he’s told and plops down next to Allison. Allison peruses her collection of glitters and shadows before plucking a long tube from a pile of other long tubes.
“How do you feel about mascara?”
Neil squints suspiciously at the sleek purple tube. “I’d prefer not to have my eyes poked out.”
Dan snorts from the other side of the couch and Allison gives him an unimpressed look.
“Fine. Your eyelashes are already pretty dark, you ungrateful bastard.” Allison sets down the purple tube and grabs something else. “But I want you try some eyeliner. It’ll make your eyes pop.”
“How is that any better?”
“Don’t be a baby and give me your face.”
Allison places a hand on the side of Neil’s face and draws him closer. A couple careful strokes of the pencil later, and she leans back to consider her work. She tilts her head from side to side and adds a couple more strokes below his eyes as well.
When she releases him, Neil blinks, resisting the urge to rub at his eyes. Allison already has another thing of makeup in her hand when Neil is sure his eyes aren’t going to water and ruin everything.
“What does that do?” Neil asks.
“It’s highlighter. This one’s more glittery so it’ll look great under the lights at Eden’s.”
“You’re gonna glow,” Matt chirps, startling Neil. He’s almost forgotten Dan and Matt were here as well.
“Okay,” Neil says. He trusts her. When Neil got back from Evermore his Freshman year, it was Allison who painted over Neil’s mottled bruises and made him look good as new. A smile curves Allison lips and she flicks open the lid and applies the powder along Neil’s cheeks with a soft brush.
“Lastly,” Allison says “is lip gloss.”
She unscrews the lid and takes out the wand. Neil licks his lips, debating whether he should let Allison apply it on him. He nods his head.
“It’s only a tint,” Allison says quietly, focusing on covering Neil’s lips with a glossy layer, “but it’ll make your lips look nice and pink and,” Allison wipes a bit of lip gloss away from where it got on Neil’s skin, “kissable.”
Neil huffs a laugh. “Kissable?”
“It’s also strawberry flavored.” Allison smirks. “But don’t you dare lick your lips.”
“I wasn’t going to.” Neil scowls. He was absolutely going to.
Dan gives Neil one of her chokers to wear and helps him hook it round his neck. It’s not as tight as Neil thought it would be, it’s actually pretty comfortable. He laces up his boots and straightens up to find the Upperclassmen watching him.
“Okay, you’re done,” Allison says, nodding approvingly. “Now let’s go party.”
Andrew is waiting in the parking lot for Neil and the others to come down. Neil has the pleasure of seeing him before he spots Neil. He’s leaning against the Maserati with a cigarette propped lazily between his fingers and his lips. His hair is slicked back with gel, and the vampire costume is predictably, black. The only thing he’s wearing that isn’t black is the white button down shirt that looks like it belongs in the original Dracula movie and the inside of the cape, which is a blood red. Neil wonders if he even has fake fangs.
Andrew takes a drag from his cigarette and glances up as Neil approaches. His eyes lock on Neil’s face and the hand holding his cigarette drops an inch from his lips and freezes. Neil tries not to look too pleased when Andrew’s eyes drag down his body and linger on each new article of clothing.
“What are you supposed to be,” Andrew grunts. He drops the cigarette and grinds it out with the heel of his shoe.
“Dracula’s boyfriend,” Neil says and earns a supremely unimpressed look from Andrew.
“Alright let’s go!” Nicky shouts, running to the Maserati in his golden gladiator costume. “Preferably before it gets dark and Eden’s runs out of tequila!”
Andrew’s gaze is heavy on Neil’s. When Neil grins, a smug smile curving his lips, Andrew’s eyes drop to his mouth. His throat bobs.
“It’s strawberry flavored,” Neil says. Andrew’s eyes snap back up to his.
The lip gloss doesn’t last throughout the night. Neil thinks he likes these new clothes.
“Can I do your makeup?”
A/N: Second imagine already... In this imagine you are a YouTuber, any kind you’d like, but occasionally do makeup video’s. I hope you enjoy it!
Pairing(s): ShawnxReader
Word count: 1036
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
"Hey babe, can you help me?" You asked, walking into his studio.
"Sure, what's up?" He leaned back in his chair, admiring you in the high-waisted jeans and white shirt you'd just picked out. It was simple, but looked cute on you.
"Well, today is Friday, so-"
"You need to film a video and don't know what to do?"
"Don't interrupt me." You shook your head. "But yes, I do. Any ideas?"
Shawn cocked his head to the side, thinking about it. "Do your subscribers know you're dating me?"
"I have mentioned it, but not everyone believes it." You responded. "Why? Wanna film a breakup video?"
"Good idea." He chuckled, standing up. "But no, I was thinking about something else, actually. Can I do your makeup?"
"You know, that's not the worst idea."
***
"Hey guys, and welcome to another video! So today, I'm going to do something that I think will be very fun.
"Today, my boyfriend Shawn,", You pulled him into vision of the camera, "Will be doing my makeup."
You turned to him, making him look into your eyes. "I actually have no idea how this is going to turn out. Like, you are a perfectionist, but you're also a guy."
"I do though." He stated confidently, grabbing your makeup bag. "You're going to look incredible."
You smiled at the camera doubtfully. "Shawn actually does know a lot about makeup, more than I think most boyfriends out there. But he hasn't actually ever used it or done anyone's makeup before."
"I have!" He protested. "I did Aaliyah's makeup last month."
"You mistook mascara for an eyebrow gel."
"I'm better now!"
You raised an eyebrow again, but then watched as he opened you makeup bag and started rummaging through it.
You got scared when he pulled out your foundation first, but as he kept searching, you relaxed a little.
"Where the hell is your primer?" He asked, and you smiled proudly of him.
"It's the white with blue tube."
He got it out of the bag, and you inwardly cringed when he put way too much on his fingertips. You sat still however when he applied all of it on your face, being very careful not to hurt you or come too close to your eyes.
After applying your foundation and concealer, you were now baking while he held you mascara in one hand and brow gel in the other. After reading the labels, he luckily chose the right one to do your eyebrows.
After that, he got out your Urban Decay Electric palette. If you don't know that one, it is filled with bright neon colors and glitters.
"Oh god, why that one?"
"'Cuz it has pretty colors."
Your heart pounded in your chest as you closed your eyes, not being able to see what shades he picked.
"What are you doing?" You asked as you felt him moving the brush from your inner corner to your brow bone.
"Blending." He mumbled back. "And stop talking. I'm trying to focus."
You smiled, and then sat still again as he applied a little more shadow.
Then came the part you were really scared of.
Eyeliner.
And of course, he had to choose a liquid liner.
Shit.
You sat still, focusing your mind on anything other than than the very crooked line your boyfriend must be drawing right now.
"Don't open your eyes yet." He said as he felt you moving around.
When he was finally done with your eyes after putting on mascara extremely carefully, he bronzed your skin and applied a little blush and highlighter.
All that was left now were your lips, and you silently hoped he wouldn't choose a bright color.
You felt him applying what seemed to be a liquid lipstick to your lips, and you mostly have neon and rainbow colors in that collection.
Shit again.
"Are you done?" You asked, sitting up straighter.
"No. Close your mouth."
You did and he sprayed some setting spray on your face. "Done."
"Can I see?"
"Wait a sec, let me get a mirror."
He ran to the bathroom, and returned within a couple of seconds.
He put your makeup mirror in your hand, and you couldn't contain your excitement, curious how he did.
"Can I?"
"Yes."
You opened your eyes, and instead of all the horror you expected to be feeling, your first reaction was surprise.
It wasn't that bad.
Actually, it was quite good.
He'd picked out some of the less pretty blue shades from the eye shadow palette, but he'd actually blended it quite nicely. Your face makeup was also pretty okay, maybe a little patchy and he applied a little too much blush. But for a first time, he definitely exceeded your expectations.
Shawn picked a nude liquid lip, thank god. It was applied a little messy, but for him, it was not bad.
The eyeliner was as you'd expected: it sat until into your inner corner and the wing he made almost reached your ear.
And it was crooked as hell.
But the thing that surprised you most were your brows.
He'd not only brushed them in place, but also created a little bit of an arch to them. To be honest, they looked better than when you usually did it.
When you mentioned all of this to the camera and Shawn, he smiled brightly.
"So, I hope you all enjoyed this video! If you do, please let me know by liking it or leaving a comment down below. And I'll see you next week! Bye!"
You waved your usual little wave at the camera, and then shut down all of your equipment. When turning to Shawn again, he smiled confidently.
"At least now everyone knows we're really dating. No more unclarity about that."
You smiled at his cute little chuckle. "Finally."
"Told you I'd make you look beautiful."
You laughed, kissing his cheek. "You did better than I expected. But now I'm gonna wash all of this stuff off my face, and then we'll watch Netflix and cuddle, what about that?"
He grinned happily. "I'll get the popcorn ready."
You smiled at him as he walked down the stairs quickly. "Love you babe!"
"Love you too!"
Make-up for lazy and/or busy people
Have some practical tips from someone who doesn't really has time for this, but tries it anyway.
It's 2019 and everyone's a beauty guru
  Let me preface this by saying: you don't need make-up. Don't let people tell you you need to 'put your face on'. You can damn well choose which face you'll be projecting each day or even part of the day. Unless you're manning one of those cosmetics counters in a mall, how you look is mostly about you and what makes you feel comfy. So while I'll be giving random ass tips on how to get certain looks with minimal effort, even that minimal effort is totally optional.
Now. Onward.
Tumblr media
So I made it into my thirties without ever actually bothering with the whole 'make-up' thing. But now my job requires me to be Fancy sometimes, so last year I decided to make it a Project to learn and be somewhat good at it. I watched a whole bunch of youtube and read articles and Looked Stuff Up and then I bought a cheap version of All the Things to practice. It's honestly quite an overwhelming experience, and it's even harder if you, like, have a day job and hobbies and anime to watch and videogames to play and ranting blogs to write.
Like, Tati I love you but I'm not about to get up an hour earlier for this shit.
If you need some low-stakes, 'just looking around' type stuff, that's what this is here for. I cannot tell you how to do a cut crease or any of the fancy stuff. So have some of my own meandering experience, which can hopefully help you a little bit.
 What is all this stuff?
When I did my research at first, I drew up a list of Things I apparently needed to buy to do the make-up. It turned out to be a long ass list. Here are the 'common' items on said list.
1. Primer
Exactly like the thing you put on your walls before you paint them. Supposed to go on top of the moisturizer and under everything else and depending on the primer, does different things. This is.…kindof extra. I've tried two different 'colour correcting anti red' primers and all they seem to do is dry out my skin. I'm sure some are nice but this is really not a basic necessity.
2. Foundation
The thing you slather on to make your skin either look smooth like polished marble, or cakey like badly done stucco. Kinda depends on how good you're at it. Comes in varieties.
Full coverage foundation: The stuff all the make-up youtubers use. It essentially turns you into one of those Japanese mask monsters? Like the ghost from Spirited Away. Good at getting rid of any and all blemishes, but requires More Work later on.
BB cream (or CC, or DD…): Supposed to be a more skincare friendly version of foundation. I've tried a few brands and they ended up medium to full coverage, and all of them dried out my skin.
Tinted moisturizer: Not… strictly… make-up? In Europe you tend to find these in pharmacy/parapharmacy places (so Boots or Walgreens for UK/US peeps). It's essentially moisturizer with some colouring in it to give your face extra oomph. Also, what I long expected BB cream to be (it is not). Because it's pharmacy stuff, it comes in versions with like no perfume, so if you have sensitive skin but want an Instagram filter for your face, this is probably something to look into.
3. Concealer
Spot treatment to get rid of any glaring discolouration you wish to hide. +10 to all stealth checks on red spots and eye bags, but does make wrinkles really obvious.
4. Face powder/baking powder
I have no clue what this is good for. I've tried two different ones on several occasions, and I think they're supposed to stop you from getting shiny by absorbing any facial oil. They mostly just make me look dusty.
5. Bronzer
Here's the fun thing about using full coverage foundation to make yourself look like a ghost: you then need More Product to make yourself look alive again. Enter: bronzer. This stuff puts a bit of colour back into those spots you so carefully blotted out so that you appear moar hooman. Only useful if you do the whole 'full coverage foundation' thing.
6. Contouring
That thing you know because of the Kardashians. Alternatively: don't let them know we can shapeshift. This is morphing powder/cream for your face. You use it to add shadows where no shadows are, and light where there is shadow and of course this means most people use it to look as close to skeletons as possible. Can do really cool things if you know what you're doing, and look Really Wrong if you mess it up. Not for the faint of heart. Also: your nose is fine. Really.
7. Blush
Blushing is the ultimate staple of romance fics, and it looks cute. Blush powder/cream is meant to give you glowing apple cheeks, even when you're not actively feeling embarrassed.
8. Highlighter
Societally acceptable glitter for the skin. This shit is amazing. It's officially supposed to make you 'glow' and  look 'youthful' and 'juicy' but honey, who cares: Glitter!
9. Lip liner
A pencil/felt pen for your lips. Supposed to help you paint the outside of your lips so you only have to fill in the lines with lipstick later. Like carefully searching the edges before using the flood tool in Photoshop. Considering I'm pretty bad at the 'smooth strokes at lip edge' thing, it doesn't really help me to have to do it twice but ok.
10. Lip stuff
My favourite Make-up Thing. Puts colour on your lips. Comes in varieties.
Lipstick: Your mom's classic lipstick. The one with the twisty tube. Comes in a million colours and is sometimes moisturizing. Cons: everything your lips touch is now covered in lipstick.
Liquid lipstick: The stuff in the long tubes with the applicator. Usually transfer-proof which means that your coffee cup does not look like a blood bath after a few sips. Dries the hell out of your lips tho.
Lipgloss: the stuff that makes your hair stick to your face at the least gust of wind. Usually quite moisturizing but also super sticky. Makes your tea mug look like a particularly grisly murder scene.
Lip topper: Extra. Like… so extra. This is lip stuff that goes on top of your lip stuff in case you don't have enough lip stuff. Usually metallic or glitter. Because Extra.
Tinted lip balm: Another cheat item, like tinted moisturizer, in that it's not Officially Make-up. Is essentially lip balm, so it's not sticky and usually quite moisturizing and protective. Downside is that its colouring tends to be quite muted.
11. Eyebrow stuff
I don't know when 'fleek' became such an obsession, but there are pencils, and pomades, and powder and gels and spoolie brushes and they all do the same thing: shape your eyebrows.
12. Eyelid primer
Funny thing about eyes: if you have deepset or hooded eyes, like me, your eyelid spends most of its time covered by Moar Eyelid. This tends to transfer whatever you put on said eyelid to all the other skin. Hence: eyelid primer, which is like… glue? I guess? Makes stuff stay in place. For those people who don't have a bunch of eyelid foldage, it's supposed to help with the blending and whatnot.
13. Eyeshadow
Pretty colours for your eyes. Comes in powder and cream, and in literally so many colours, be it matte (no shiny), metallic (shiny), glitter (extra shiny) and fairly recently multichrome (Extra). I see a lot of influencers and (let's be real) make-up companies push the idea that you need like four shades and half an hour of blending for any given 'look' but that is mostly exaggeration. You can just pick a colour you like and wear it.
14. Eyeliner
Pencil or paint that lines your eyes and occasionally gives them wings. Comes in varieties.
Liquid eye liner: your basic all-purpose liner. This one has the advantage that it can usually be applied very thin and stealthy like.
Gel liner: as far as I can tell, a lot of liquid eye liner has an alcohol base, whereas gel liner does not. Its main reason for existing is that you can somewhat safely put it in your waterline, aka to colour the part of the eyelid just behind the lashes. This means you're going to be jabbing the pen or brush in your actual fucking eye, on the bottom/inside of your friggin eyelid and this is Terrifying. On the bright side: it's a pretty badass punky/emo/goth look. Think Avril Lavigne circa Sk8ter boy.
Kohl/pencil: this is a colouring pencil for your eyes. Tends to be a little bit thicker for extra Drama. Can also be smudged for smokey eye and even more goth points.
15. Mascara
Paint for your eyelashes. Most mascaras try to make them look bigger.
16. Falsies
Glue false eyelashes onto your own eyelashes. Ain't nobody got time for that.
17. Setting spray
Face varnish. If you've spent an entire hour getting your make-up super pretty and fancy, you can put this on to make it last longer.
  So how do you use all this?
That… was a lot of stuff and we're all still overwhelmed. So let me give you some suggestions, a 'look book' of wearable looks for every day and special ocasions, aka, now that i have this stuff, wtf am i doing with it.
The 'fuck everything' I have a shirt that says 'No.' on it. It's one of my favourite shirts and I use it on deadline weeks, when I'm in the office with a particularly large amount of stressful work. I tend to pair it with a noise-cancelling headset and a look of barely-restrained fury, but it'll look just as good with a cute dress or a comfy pair of jeans. Go wild. This facial look consists of the following:
Moisturizer
Lip balm in winter, sun screen in summer.
  The 'I tried'
This was my 'work' look for several years and occasionally still. The fun thing about it is it's quite subtle and most people (definitely most men) will not think you're wearing anything. It makes you feel like you're undercover, just a bit (I take my entertainment where i can get it, ok).
Consists of:
Skincare (moisturise, people!)
Eyebrow pencil
Mascara
  The 'You look nice today'
This one works basically like a photoshop filter for your face, if you're into that. It blurs out a little bit of the rough edges and emphasises other parts, but it still looks very much like you. Just a version of you that gets more sleep than the actual you, usually. For me, at least, it works to make me go 'damn, looking cute' when I accidentally meet my reflection in a bathroom mirror. It's a confidence builder.
Mosturiser
Tinted moisturiser or BB cream (depends on general dryness of skin I guess)
Concealer (eyebags, man)
Eyebrow pencil
Mascara
Tinted lip balm or lip gloss
 A note on lips: Look. I love dark lipstick. Make me appear as if I have stained my lips in the blood of my enemies and I'm happy. But a dark liquid lip needs to be on point to look good, which is a hard thing to do, plus if you get it wrong it is very hard to correct and I don't need that stress in my daily life. Gloss or lip balm is just a little bit more low-stakes.
The 'Make me look like my selfie'
Some days you have time. This look is essentially the same as the 'you look nice today' with two additions
Cream eyeshadow
Cream (stick) blush
A note on cream make-up: Most make-up products come in a powder form and a cream/liquid type form. Generally, the powder form is more blendable, and those fancy eyeshadow pallettes let you do all kinds of crazy amazing stuff. However, we're talking lazy working girl looks, and I happen to do my make-up on a moving train (see earlier: not getting up an hour early for this shit). If you're going to be applying things in less than ideal circumstances, cream make-up is your best friend. It doesn't explode in a cloud of dust, it doesn't break when you drop it, there's no fall-out. It is, in general, lower difficulty, can be applied with like your fingers or one of those tiny little make-up sponges, and if you get it in a fairly neutral colour (like just a bit darker or lighter than your skintone) it isn't obvious if your bleary ass messes up a little. We're being practical here, not trying to make things more difficult than it has to be.
The 'yeah I worked hard on this, bask in my glory'
Finally, the full glam. I personally use this when I am required to be Fancy, or when it's a Sunday and I'm all 'fuck it i wanna be fab'. This is the one where you just go for it. Use All the Things. Turn your face into a ghost, then paint shadows back on. Use six different eyeshadows and blend them together. Put that liquid lip to use, you have time to clean it up and try again. Add glitter to Everything. Have fun with it.
Briar’s makeup routine (and yours) products pls
this is my favourite question ever i love makeup!!!!!!!!!! also pls bear in mind briar’s is gonna be partly based off of mine lol (also im talking about clueless!briar bc that’s who im writing now xo)
right ok so
briar:
wouldn’t wear foundation (maybe for special occasions) bc she has lots of freckles and also fairly good skin,, she’d probably use concealer for the little stuff but she wouldn’t wear foundation on a daily basis
would only really wear eyeshadow for special occasions?? on a normal day she would normally just wear mascara (bc her grandparents are well off im guessing she’s got some expensive mascara that would’ve been super popular in the nineties, or like idk one that’s popular in the wizarding world)
it’s the nineties so no eyebrows but idk maybe she uses like an eyebrow gel just to keep them in place
she’d have a creme sheen sort of lipstick that’s pink and glossy, sort of just to give herself a little bit of colour to her lips
maybe bronzer but sparingly
i think the thing is,,,, briar would wear a lot of makeup but on a daily basis she wouldn’t really bother??
right ok so for me:
i don’t wear foundation bc i have a lot of freckles (this is where im coming from w briar lol) (also her original face claim freya was super freckly and i imagine for clueless lily with lots of freckles) but i use the wet n wild megaglo makeup stick concealer bc it’s literally £2 and it works just as good as the benefit one tbh but it lasts so much longer (i use a brush and bc of that i don’t use that much product??)
for eyebrows i use the benefit goofproof pencil (think in shade 2) and when i bought it last it came in this set with the other pencil (precisely my brow??) and an eyebrow gel (basically the pencil itself is around £19 and the set was £30 so like for an extra ten pounds you got two more products so i got it to try them out) and sometimes i use them, like the precisely my brow pencil is thinner so sometimes i use to define my eyebrows a lil bit more.
i have…. a lot of eyeshadow palettes lol. the one i use the most is the blood sugar palette from jeffree star and like,,, it’s a fuckin god send it’s so good. on a normal basis though i use one of the contour shades from my contour palette as eyeshadow bc they’re more neutral and it’s a little quicker. normally what i do is that i’ll use the contour palette as the main colour, then the shade ‘glucose’ from blood sugar for the inner part of my eyelid (not inner corner) and if im feeling fancy the shade ‘sweetener’ in the middle part of my eyelid for some glitter. if im going fancy fancy i’ll use the mac dazzleshadow liquid glitter in the shade ‘blinking brilliant’ sort of as if it’s a winged eyeliner?? only it doesn’t wing out, it sort of just lifts on the outer part of my eye (the glitter’s literally ginger i love it lol) OH and also i have the veronica mac archie’s girls palette and sometimes i use that bc it’s all purple and it looks pretty with my brown eyes
for contour i use the anastasia contour palette (the powder one) and i tend to use the middle contour shade, which is the cool toned one. pls use cool tones for your contour it looks more natural lol
mascara!!!!!!!!! right ok SO you NEED to curl your eyelashes i swear to god any mascara can be a good one if you curl your eyelashes!! for mascara i use the too faced better than sex mascara (it’s expensive but so worth it!!!) and for lower lashes i use the benefit bad gal mascara (i got a tester ages ago so it doesn’t have much product in anymore,, so basically i use it so my lower lashes aren’t as full on as my top ones)
INNER CORNER!!! this is a staple!!!!! so i use the wet n wild white eyeliner, put it in my inner corner and smudge it a little bit with my finger to blend it, and then i use the jeffree star highlighter in ice cold to make it super super super white. sometimes i don’t put eyeshadow on and just do this and like,, you still look good
i don’t wear eyeliner but i do use it in the waterline. on the bottom i use the wet n wild one and one the top waterline (if that’s what it’s called) i sometimes use an urban decay pencil in this dark purple colour?? you can’t really tell it’s purple but i know it’s there lol
for highlighter i use the jeffree star one i mentioned (i’ve had it for literally three years and it’s still going strong it’s so worth the money) also i’ve got the liquid frost in the bone white colour and i don’t use it on my face but if i’m going out i’ll use it on my shoulders and my collar bone and ugh it looks Good pls put highlighter on your shoulders it looks so pretty in the light
lipstick!!! i don’t really suit much so i just get lipsticks that are similar to my natural lip colour??? so i always always use this lil pot of vaseline with cocoa butter before putting on lipstick and i recommend that one specifically 100%. for lipsticks i use: mac peach blossom (sheer pink but it’s v cute and my favourite one ever), jeffree star liquid lip in birthday suit, mac honeylove (literally it’s the same colour the jeffree star one is before it oxidises and ugh i love it), too faced lip injection gloss, and also i’ve got one of the mac cinderella lipsticks
i think that’s everything??? can i just say rn i really love makeup and like i buy more expensive stuff because i want to spend my money on it?? a lot of it i’ve had for a while now like i bought a lot over the past couple years and now i’m at a point where i have everything i need so i don’t buy that much anymore. but yeah!!!!!!!!
ask me questions!!
